- 0:00What if the busyness and stress in your marriage aren't just problems,
- 0:03but invitations from God to realign with His purpose?
- 0:08Welcome back to part two of our Stepping Off the Hamster Wheel series.
- 0:12Today, we dive deeper into the story of Mary and Martha and explore how their
- 0:16choices speak into our lives and relationships.
- 0:19Stay with us as we uncover the hope and transformation available when we prioritize
- 0:25what truly matters. Here's part two.
- 0:29Yesterday, we started this series by diving deeper into the title,
- 0:33which highlights how the busyness of life often causes us to miss what truly matters.
- 0:38We also touched on how this theme relates to marriage.
- 0:41Today, let's go even further, exploring what we can learn from the story of
- 0:46Mary and Martha and how their lessons tie into our marital relationships. Here are some thoughts.
- 0:52Married life can become busy and stressful.
- 0:55There's a common misconception that if a couple is busy, they must be productive.
- 0:59And that stress equals importance. That what's overwhelming or hectic must also be significant.
- 1:05There might be some truth to these ideas, but they can also be misleading.
- 1:09From the beginning, God never promised that life and relationships here on earth
- 1:14would be smooth sailing.
- 1:16Challenges will come, often driven by busyness and stress.
- 1:20God commanded us to be fruitful and multiply, which naturally brings a lot of
- 1:25responsibility and activity.
- 1:26But if we're not wise, if we forget to return to God's truth about handling
- 1:31responsibilities and the gifts He's entrusted to us, we can be led astray by
- 1:36false perceptions of what it means to be busy or stressed.
- 1:39As Solomon reminds us in Ecclesiastes 3 verse 1, there is an appointed time
- 1:45for everything, and there is a time for every event under heaven.
- 1:49Stress often comes from trying to control things beyond our reach or resisting
- 1:54what God has not intended for us.
- 1:56Since the very beginning, like in Genesis 3, God designed marriage with purpose,
- 2:01clear roles, and divine order.
- 2:04Apostle Paul's teachings in Ephesians 5 further emphasize this divine design.
- 2:09It's honest to admit that words like busy and stressful have become part of
- 2:13our identity, even after we've committed to being intentional in our faith journey.
- 2:18These elements often trap us, and it's only by God's grace that we keep relearning,
- 2:24growing, and allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us to make necessary changes.
- 2:28Taking a step back and refocusing isn't always easy, but it's absolutely possible.
- 2:34Prioritizing what truly matters—love, understanding, spiritual growth,
- 2:40and meaningful connection—is essential.
- 2:42Admitting that it's hard to make that initial decision, and even harder to follow
- 2:46through, is part of the process.
- 2:48It all begins with recognizing Jesus Christ's authority over our hearts,
- 2:53minds, and entire lives.
- 2:55Humility is key to breaking down walls and surrendering fully to Him.
- 3:00When God steps into our lives, He prunes us, removing the things that have attached
- 3:05us, our marriages, and our families, sometimes without us realizing it.
- 3:10These attachments can enslave us, making us forget God's authority.
- 3:14We often think decision-making is quick and changes are simple,
- 3:18but God reminds us that transformation isn't based on our skills,
- 3:22capabilities, or timelines.
- 3:24The real goal isn't just gaining blessings from stepping back.
- 3:28It's about becoming more like Christ, growing in His likeness.
- 3:32Are the changes we're making rooted in serving God? Or are they driven by a
- 3:36desire for easier, more comfortable living?
- 3:39Comfort itself isn't wrong. God desires good things for us. But that can turn
- 3:44harmful when we leave Him out of the picture.
- 3:47Prioritizing the important over the urgent helps us avoid burnout and shapes
- 3:52our understanding of surrender to God. When we fully embrace life in Christ,
- 3:56our desires begin to shift.
- 3:58The Holy Spirit moves within us, revealing fleshly temptations and guiding us to make decisions.
- 4:05Whether we stand firm in our commitment to Christ or falter and reduce our faith
- 4:10to just religion rather than a vibrant relationship.
- 4:13As we embrace this new life in Jesus, our priorities change.
- 4:17The things that once felt urgent lose their grip. And we find ourselves relying
- 4:22more on God, trusting His timing and His plan.
- 4:26So, take some time to reflect. Have an honest conversation with your spouse
- 4:30about what areas might be stretching your marriage into cycles of busyness and stress.
- 4:35Ask the Holy Spirit for humility.
- 4:38Trust Him to reveal truths that might be uncomfortable or unexpected.
- 4:42Remember, it's not about who's right or wrong, but about identifying areas where growth is needed.
- 4:48Then, ask God for help and commit to a journey firmly anchored in Christ.
- 4:53Remember our new life and marriage with Christ is conforming in God's design
- 4:58and intent for us, relying on God's guidance, surrendering to Him,
- 5:03and transforming our lives and marriage.
- 5:06And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of
- 5:11your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good
- 5:15and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12 verse 2.
