- 0:55Speaker 2: All right, welcome, It's Tuesday. Glad you're with us. It's
- 0:59Speaker 2: Radio Night Live off of brand new week talking Travel
- 1:02Speaker 2: normally with Linda Perillo on Tuesday nights, but Linda, there's
- 1:06Speaker 2: lots of things coming out of the weekend that were
- 1:08Speaker 2: just astounding. We're going to get to the to the
- 1:12Speaker 2: bigger one that even got bigger yesterday on some level
- 1:15Speaker 2: because the deal with Iran may that may open up
- 1:19Speaker 2: travel in ways that people have. Yeah, but before we
- 1:22Speaker 2: get to get we got to talk about the real thing,
- 1:25Speaker 2: the real story for all of us live in the
- 1:27Speaker 2: New York area, Go New York, Go New York.
- 1:29Speaker 3: Goo.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, listen, my boys play basketball, right, So, I
- 1:35Speaker 4: mean that's the only reason I like it. I was
- 1:38Speaker 4: not a basketball fan. I was not like, I love baseball.
- 1:42Speaker 4: I live your Yankees great, right, oh my god, huge
- 1:44Speaker 4: Yankees girl. But let me just say it's one of
- 1:48Speaker 4: those things that even when you're not a fan organically,
- 1:53Speaker 4: you had to be a fan. A little bit of
- 1:57Speaker 4: a Cinderella story here. What was it nineteen seven, twenty
- 2:00Speaker 4: three I think, yeah.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Fifty fifty three years and.
- 2:03Speaker 4: You had Kevin. As we were saying off air, I mean,
- 2:07Speaker 4: just a classy bunch of guys that wanted to win this,
- 2:13Speaker 4: that worked together. Teamwork is dreamwork. Everyone had a role.
- 2:19Speaker 4: And if we can teach our kids something about being
- 2:21Speaker 4: on a team Kevin, yeah, yeah, yeah, it's exactly that.
- 2:25Speaker 4: You don't need to be the superstar. You need to
- 2:27Speaker 4: do what your job is and bring it all together
- 2:32Speaker 4: because it's a team and wow, wow, just the chill.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Well, the GM Leon Rose spent a couple of years
- 2:39Speaker 2: putting all these players together and he really understood what
- 2:42Speaker 2: he needed, and congratulations to him and mister Dolan for
- 2:46Speaker 2: spending the money to get him. And you're exactly right,
- 2:49Speaker 2: like for instance, because it was it was a jump
- 2:52Speaker 2: on the bandwagon postseason for the Knicks and everybody that
- 2:55Speaker 2: had not even known who they were, like my bride,
- 2:58Speaker 2: she had no clue what the next were doing, or
- 3:00Speaker 2: who was on the team or anything. And then they
- 3:02Speaker 2: start winning. I think they won sixteen games in the
- 3:05Speaker 2: playoffs and lost only three. I mean, that's easy, and
- 3:09Speaker 2: they weren't. There were a couple of blowouts against the
- 3:11Speaker 2: Sixers and stuff, but not most of the games weren't
- 3:14Speaker 2: like that, And in the San Antonio series they certainly
- 3:17Speaker 2: weren't like that. And they had to come back in
- 3:20Speaker 2: every game that they won. They almost came back in
- 3:22Speaker 2: the game that they lost, but they had to come
- 3:25Speaker 2: from behind. The Spurs led seventy six percent of the games.
- 3:30Speaker 2: You think about all the playing time, seventy six percent
- 3:32Speaker 2: of the time the Spurs were up.
- 3:34Speaker 4: But going into the second half, I think act well,
- 3:37Speaker 4: going into sometimes into the fourth quarter, they were still up.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I think they were head as far as ten in
- 3:42Speaker 2: all four of the wins. But here's the thing. The
- 3:45Speaker 2: Knicks never got rattled. As you said, they knew how
- 3:47Speaker 2: to work together. Each person knew their individual jobs. One
- 3:51Speaker 2: of the funny stories, I think, and I talked about
- 3:54Speaker 2: this in my column at town Hall yesterday, because this
- 3:56Speaker 2: is kind of an this is kind of an American story.
- 3:59Speaker 2: You had Robinson who couldn't shoot a free throw. If
- 4:03Speaker 2: you if you said make this free throw, or we're
- 4:05Speaker 2: putting you up against the wall and shooting you to
- 4:07Speaker 2: death under a firing squad, he couldn't do it. It
- 4:11Speaker 2: just couldn't do it. And as a former coach, I
- 4:13Speaker 2: can tell you his form is pathetically bad. And if
- 4:16Speaker 2: I was him now that I'm a world champion, I'd
- 4:18Speaker 2: hire some kid to could just come rebound for me
- 4:20Speaker 2: for like two hours, and I'd do nothing but shoot
- 4:22Speaker 2: free throws all summer and try to be better next year.
- 4:25Speaker 2: But here's the thing that wasn't That wasn't his particular job.
- 4:29Speaker 2: His job in the final twenty six seconds was to
- 4:31Speaker 2: make sure that Wemby didn't get the rebounds off the off,
- 4:35Speaker 2: the off, the Spurs offensive and he and he blocked
- 4:38Speaker 2: him out and he pulled in three rebounds that they
- 4:40Speaker 2: needed back to back to back and that and those
- 4:43Speaker 2: are the little things. You don't have any of the
- 4:45Speaker 2: sportscasters talking about Mitchell Robinson's rebounds. But if he doesn't
- 4:48Speaker 2: get those, if he doesn't get those rebounds and the
- 4:51Speaker 2: Spurs get second shots, they can come back from that.
- 4:55Speaker 2: You know, being down by four in that final twenty
- 4:57Speaker 2: six seconds, the Knicks didn't yield the lead, and they
- 5:01Speaker 2: boxed out and they got the rebounds, and they played defense.
- 5:03Speaker 2: They did the stuff that they had to do, and
- 5:05Speaker 2: lo and behold when number four came in Game five,
- 5:09Speaker 2: and I know there was a lot of crap being
- 5:11Speaker 2: talked about, Oh Nixon six, No, no, no, no, baby,
- 5:14Speaker 2: that's not championship mentality. Championship mentality as we go on
- 5:17Speaker 2: the road and we take it away from their home
- 5:19Speaker 2: crowd to really do that. And to this point, and
- 5:23Speaker 2: I'm sorry that I'm kind of on a tear here,
- 5:26Speaker 2: but Jalen Brunson, you talk about selfishness. I said, this
- 5:29Speaker 2: was kind of an American story. When George Washington won
- 5:33Speaker 2: the Revolution, he goes back, He goes back to the
- 5:38Speaker 2: House of Representatives in Philadelphia and he says, I resign
- 5:42Speaker 2: my position as the Commander in chief of the American
- 5:45Speaker 2: Colonial Force, and he gave up power. And King George
- 5:48Speaker 2: was so blown away by this, he goes if that
- 5:51Speaker 2: really happened, because he didn't even believe it happened at first.
- 5:53Speaker 2: He said, then, George Washington is truly a great man.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Nobody that's ever worked so hard to get to a point,
- 5:58Speaker 2: has ever really given up that power. Jalen Brunson came
- 6:02Speaker 2: to the Knicks and willfully said, I could earn another
- 6:06Speaker 2: one hundred million on my contract, but I'm going to
- 6:09Speaker 2: give that back to the team so that the whole
- 6:12Speaker 2: team can And because of that, they were able to
- 6:15Speaker 2: go get these role players that needed to be put
- 6:17Speaker 2: around him so that they had an entire team. And
- 6:20Speaker 2: when you look at this group, I call them lunch
- 6:22Speaker 2: pail guys. They're the guys that you know, climb the
- 6:24Speaker 2: skyscraper and put the hot bolts in the lead and
- 6:27Speaker 2: then eat their lunch and go home without anybody knowing
- 6:29Speaker 2: their name. That was this next team. They were a
- 6:32Speaker 2: we're going to do it together. We're never going to
- 6:34Speaker 2: give up. We're going to keep pushing forward. And look
- 6:37Speaker 2: what happened because they never gave up. Sixteen and three
- 6:39Speaker 2: in the playoffs, World champions And what a story for
- 6:43Speaker 2: our kids to for our boys especially to look up to.
- 6:47Speaker 4: Well here's the other thing too. You know my daughter
- 6:49Speaker 4: is a junior Bowl. She's going to be a senior
- 6:50Speaker 4: at Villanova. I got to point out Nova, no matter
- 6:54Speaker 4: what they do, how they end up in the sweet sixteen,
- 6:58Speaker 4: they don't Final four, they don't. They're producing great basketball players.
- 7:03Speaker 4: I mean, Brunson, Heart, Bridges, all three of them are
- 7:08Speaker 4: Nova guys. I don't know if they graduated, but they
- 7:10Speaker 4: are definitely Nova guys. And I got to tell you
- 7:14Speaker 4: class Heart Brunson even said, you know the other night
- 7:18Speaker 4: when after they won, he goes, well, you know, we
- 7:21Speaker 4: played really well tonight, he goes at the end of
- 7:24Speaker 4: the game.
- 7:25Speaker 3: Not so well at the beginning of the game. But
- 7:28Speaker 3: in the end, the beginning of the game didn't matter,
- 7:31Speaker 3: except that they knew they had to change course and
- 7:35Speaker 3: had to really high tail it down that court, and
- 7:38Speaker 3: they absolutely did it. And I said to you off
- 7:41Speaker 3: air before the best moment for me, because I'm not
- 7:45Speaker 3: a basketball person really was Jalen Brunson and his dad,
- 7:50Speaker 3: Rick Brunson. At the end of that game, Kevin, I
- 7:54Speaker 3: could still cry. It was such an emotional moment and wow, wow,
- 8:02Speaker 3: wow wow.
- 8:03Speaker 2: With any team, there's this issue of trusting the people
- 8:06Speaker 2: that are around you, and you have to have that
- 8:09Speaker 2: not just camaraderie, but that real confidence that you're going
- 8:14Speaker 2: to do your job and they're going to do their job,
- 8:16Speaker 2: and you hang together when you're you know, when you're
- 8:21Speaker 2: in those moments that you can have a lot of
- 8:23Speaker 2: doubt creep in. And every single game they lost the
- 8:27Speaker 2: lead and were down big. In Game four, the second
- 8:32Speaker 2: to last game where they won it the last minute
- 8:34Speaker 2: because on a nobe, you know, stuck it back in.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Like they had to overcome a twenty nine point deficit,
- 8:41Speaker 2: biggest deficit ever to come from behind in the in
- 8:44Speaker 2: the in the finals. And I think once they did that,
- 8:47Speaker 2: I really did think that from that point on, they
- 8:49Speaker 2: were like, We're we're unstoppable because not because we're arrogant,
- 8:53Speaker 2: but because we know how to work and work and
- 8:55Speaker 2: work and work and do the work and trust one
- 8:57Speaker 2: another and not have an ego, but just get the
- 9:01Speaker 2: job done. And boy did they set a clinic on that, Like,
- 9:04Speaker 2: I want every young basketball player in America to look
- 9:08Speaker 2: at this next team and go, that's how you do it.
- 9:11Speaker 2: If you're a superstar and you have all the ability,
- 9:14Speaker 2: that's fine, you still need to adopt this mentality. And
- 9:17Speaker 2: the other team was loaded with talent. People don't remember
- 9:20Speaker 2: that Wimby was the MVP and he was the defensive
- 9:23Speaker 2: Player of the Year because he's so long it can
- 9:25Speaker 2: block everything. And then they say that the kid off
- 9:29Speaker 2: the bench, Harper, who is the son of Ron Harper,
- 9:32Speaker 2: former All Star and three terms Bulls player. Yea, they said,
- 9:35Speaker 2: oh that they put.
- 9:36Speaker 4: To John Moscow by the way, he went to John Bosco.
- 9:39Speaker 2: They say that they had all the talent, but what
- 9:41Speaker 2: did the talent get them? That that team was not
- 9:44Speaker 2: able to work together. And only did they not work together,
- 9:46Speaker 2: they choked. They just gave up lead after lead after lead.
- 9:49Speaker 2: But that was partly because the Knicks were pressing them,
- 9:52Speaker 2: playing so different, playing so strongly as a team on
- 9:54Speaker 2: the other side. So anyway, it was fantastic, What a
- 9:58Speaker 2: wonderful weekend. But we we have even bigger news to
- 10:01Speaker 2: get to stay with us. Don't go anywhere. It's traveling
- 10:07Speaker 2: from New York.
- 10:08Speaker 1: It's Radio night Life with Kevin McCullough.
- 10:12Speaker 2: All right, welcome back travel Tuesday. She's Lynda, I'm Kevin.
- 10:14Speaker 2: And sometimes we talk about travel. Sometimes we just talked
- 10:19Speaker 2: about the next Yeah.
- 10:21Speaker 1: I love it well, I.
- 10:22Speaker 4: Love New York.
- 10:23Speaker 2: The other big thing that came out of the weekend
- 10:26Speaker 2: was that you saw on Sunday night. You know, President
- 10:28Speaker 2: Trump was talking about we have a deal. We have
- 10:30Speaker 2: a deal, and nobody knew what the deal had in it.
- 10:33Speaker 2: We didn't know all the details, et cetera. Well, turns
- 10:36Speaker 2: out that it was a memo of understanding, which business
- 10:41Speaker 2: people know what that terms a lot. But here's here's
- 10:47Speaker 2: here's what we're doing. The President and the Vice President
- 10:51Speaker 2: both signed the deal electronically, and for the Iranians, the
- 10:56Speaker 2: Speaker of the parliament signed And this is basically what
- 11:04Speaker 2: it's going to be. The first step is to sign
- 11:05Speaker 2: this memo agreeing on all the terms. This week they're
- 11:08Speaker 2: going to hammer out the technicalities of what all that
- 11:11Speaker 2: means and have an actual signing of actual paper in Geneva,
- 11:16Speaker 2: and then they start working on the the actual doing
- 11:19Speaker 2: of the things. Now there's going to be several things
- 11:21Speaker 2: that they're going to be involved with. But in exchange
- 11:24Speaker 2: for getting rid of all nuclear material in their country,
- 11:29Speaker 2: the US will allow some sanctions relief to go through.
- 11:34Speaker 2: But the Vice President said, but I want you to understand,
- 11:38Speaker 2: Iran is not getting a dime of money unless they
- 11:41Speaker 2: perform their apation. The money that we're talking about fundamentally
- 11:45Speaker 2: sanctions relief. It's not all those billions of dollars that
- 11:48Speaker 2: Obama was pumping them with for no for no good reason.
- 11:53Speaker 2: And then and then this is a good story too.
- 11:56Speaker 2: The Iranian President Massud Pajecki, who a couple of weeks ago,
- 12:03Speaker 2: tried to resign. He resigned, and then the IRGC said
- 12:07Speaker 2: you can't resign, and he said, no, but I need
- 12:09Speaker 2: to resign because you guys are not really negotiating. You're
- 12:12Speaker 2: not letting me negotiate on behalf of the country. And
- 12:15Speaker 2: he went back and forth with him. Well, that struggle,
- 12:19Speaker 2: kind of ideologically and kind of principally in front of
- 12:22Speaker 2: the Iranian people, has really garnered support. And the Supreme
- 12:27Speaker 2: National Security Council, which is the group that kind of
- 12:32Speaker 2: votes on all this stuff, by more than ninety percent,
- 12:37Speaker 2: supported the signing. Of the agreement and the full implementation
- 12:41Speaker 2: could resolve many of the country's problems create new conditions
- 12:45Speaker 2: in Iran and the Middle East, and from their chief negotiator,
- 12:50Speaker 2: his name is Mohammad Bager Gala Broth or something like that,
- 12:54Speaker 2: has praised his nation's people for their historic resistance. In
- 12:58Speaker 2: other words, the bullies in Iran are not going to
- 13:03Speaker 2: be able to outlast the will of the people, and
- 13:07Speaker 2: that would have never happened had Israel and America not
- 13:11Speaker 2: defamed the IRGC. They just don't have any weapons or
- 13:15Speaker 2: power or tools at their disposal anymore to be able
- 13:18Speaker 2: to do this. So cooler heads, it appears, are prevailing
- 13:23Speaker 2: in the in the in the parliament, and in the
- 13:25Speaker 2: President's office. And can you imagine, Linda, I'm just just
- 13:29Speaker 2: think about this for a second. A year ago, you know,
- 13:33Speaker 2: Iran hates this. Death to America, death to Israel, death
- 13:36Speaker 2: to the Big Satan, death to the Little Satan. This
- 13:39Speaker 2: is there, This is how they've trained their you know,
- 13:41Speaker 2: supposedly their kids for all these years. We could be
- 13:45Speaker 2: looking at before the end of summer, before the end
- 13:49Speaker 2: of next month, maybe before the fourth of July, we
- 13:53Speaker 2: could be looking at and Iran that has a friendly
- 13:57Speaker 2: relationship with the West, has no more new clear material
- 14:01Speaker 2: within their possession, and is actually contributing to the welfare
- 14:04Speaker 2: of the region that they live in, not bullying it
- 14:07Speaker 2: with ballistic missiles pointed at everybody saying do what we
- 14:10Speaker 2: want or we're going to blow you up. This is
- 14:13Speaker 2: a seismic realignment of how that region will operate and act.
- 14:18Speaker 2: And I believe President Trump a couple of weeks ago
- 14:21Speaker 2: he said, look, if we do this right, we could
- 14:24Speaker 2: get the Saudis and the Iranians to join the Abraham
- 14:28Speaker 2: Accords and have true peace, lots of commerce, independent free
- 14:33Speaker 2: travel throughout the entire region, and countries that literally don't
- 14:37Speaker 2: hate each other anymore. That would be amazing.
- 14:41Speaker 4: And let me tell you, it would be amazing. I
- 14:45Speaker 4: there's a couple things going on. One, you have the
- 14:50Speaker 4: uh I'm going to say that democracy that exists in
- 14:54Speaker 4: Iran via the president and via that you know, faction
- 15:00Speaker 4: of people, however, and they are probably very happy to
- 15:04Speaker 4: get westernized, and they're probably very happy to be friends
- 15:08Speaker 4: with the United States.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Well before the Iotolas took over.
- 15:12Speaker 4: Crazy, Well, what about the Iotolas and what about their
- 15:17Speaker 4: group of crazies that are over there. How are they
- 15:22Speaker 4: going to react to this and what is going to
- 15:25Speaker 4: be their reaction? Are they going to retaliate? Do we
- 15:28Speaker 4: have to get nervous about what they're going to do?
- 15:30Speaker 4: Or do they not even hold that much power?
- 15:35Speaker 2: That's what I'm beginning to think because and what we
- 15:39Speaker 2: found out was after Israel and America launched Epic Fury,
- 15:44Speaker 2: we found out that all of their bluster really wasn't
- 15:47Speaker 2: very much bluster, Like they didn't have like they fired
- 15:50Speaker 2: missiles at their neighbors, They couldn't even hit American targets
- 15:55Speaker 2: like they were. The stuff that they claimed that they
- 15:58Speaker 2: could do to hold everyone captive was so hearts. Yeah,
- 16:02Speaker 2: and we've already eliminated. We know, we've already eliminated about
- 16:05Speaker 2: the top five or six complete layers of that leadership.
- 16:09Speaker 2: And I think what you're getting down to is what
- 16:11Speaker 2: my friend Katie McFarlane says on my show A Lot,
- 16:13Speaker 2: that you're starting to get down to people that are like,
- 16:16Speaker 2: wait a minute, I don't want this as my future.
- 16:19Speaker 2: This is not what I signed up for. And some
- 16:22Speaker 2: of them are old enough to remember fifty years ago
- 16:25Speaker 2: when they did have freedom. Did you know this. This
- 16:27Speaker 2: is astounding, and I think it's so heartbreaking, and you
- 16:30Speaker 2: never hear anybody from the left in America point this out.
- 16:33Speaker 2: But before the Iatolas came back into power, and Jimmy
- 16:37Speaker 2: Carter himself helped fly the first Iatola back in nineteen
- 16:41Speaker 2: seventy nine, I mean, it's we did this to them.
- 16:44Speaker 2: But the idea that before that time, Iran had the
- 16:50Speaker 2: highest capita of women in law school becoming lawyers, in
- 16:55Speaker 2: medical school becoming doctors, and in other trades public trades
- 17:01Speaker 2: of any country on the planet. They had more women
- 17:06Speaker 2: expressing real ambition and through real pursuits than any country
- 17:11Speaker 2: on the planet. And the Iotolus came in and took
- 17:15Speaker 2: that all, not only took that all away from them,
- 17:16Speaker 2: said no, you'll go in the burkas and the girls
- 17:19Speaker 2: won't be educated anymore. That's what they've had for fifty years.
- 17:23Speaker 2: I know that this would be this will be such
- 17:26Speaker 2: a better future for them. We're not going to tell
- 17:28Speaker 2: them who to put in office, and we're not going
- 17:30Speaker 2: to try to, you know, regime change this thing. That's
- 17:34Speaker 2: going to have to be their decision. But we have
- 17:36Speaker 2: found some leaders now that we can at least work
- 17:39Speaker 2: with and get the biggest dangers removed. And I think
- 17:42Speaker 2: that once those are removed, now we start looking at
- 17:44Speaker 2: a completely different ballgame. And that thing that I think
- 17:48Speaker 2: is going to be even more miraculous is that he
- 17:51Speaker 2: was willing to hold the line and do the right
- 17:53Speaker 2: thing even if he couldn't get it done in time
- 17:56Speaker 2: for it to impact the election. If this goes through
- 18:00Speaker 2: on the timeline that looks like they're trying to get
- 18:03Speaker 2: it done by, we're going to have much lower gas prices,
- 18:07Speaker 2: you know, before Labor doing. And yeah, if you have
- 18:11Speaker 2: them before Labor Day, I think that the elections don't
- 18:13Speaker 2: go nearly as badly against the Republicans as what people
- 18:16Speaker 2: have been thinking they would. So it's going to be
- 18:19Speaker 2: And I'm not I don't care. Friends don't write me letters.
- 18:22Speaker 2: I'm not a Republican blowhard. I am more concerned about
- 18:27Speaker 2: the dangers of the left than I am about saying
- 18:30Speaker 2: that the right does anything properly. Exactly to me, it's
- 18:34Speaker 2: stopping the greatest evil from taking over. It's not because
- 18:37Speaker 2: I think that the people that were putting in their
- 18:38Speaker 2: place are perfect. Even I don't even think trumps, but
- 18:43Speaker 2: I do think that he is cag and he has
- 18:45Speaker 2: a lot of wisdom and he has shown it time
- 18:47Speaker 2: and again. And I think that this is going to
- 18:50Speaker 2: have a lot of repercussive good impact on global travel.
- 18:55Speaker 4: And well, look at the tariffs, same thing. Right, he
- 18:58Speaker 4: came out and he did this crazy stuff. But we're better.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Yeah, and we've got a lot of money coming into
- 19:04Speaker 2: our coffers that we didn't have before. All right, hold
- 19:06Speaker 2: that thought. Coming right back. It's Travel Night.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Now, I'm from New York. Back to radio night life.
- 19:17Speaker 1: You're Kevin mccollor.
- 19:19Speaker 2: All right, welcome back. She's Linda. I'm Kevin. It's Travel Night,
- 19:22Speaker 2: and Linda, there's so much interesting stuff about travel. And again,
- 19:28Speaker 2: I hope that the war and all the style the
- 19:31Speaker 2: progress there is going to make global travel even better.
- 19:34Speaker 2: But you know a lot of people are staying home.
- 19:36Speaker 2: They're looking at things and they're saying, I want to
- 19:38Speaker 2: visit someplace new in the US this summer. And there's
- 19:41Speaker 2: kind of a cool story coming from a place we
- 19:43Speaker 2: wouldn't expect it. Tell us about it.
- 19:45Speaker 4: Yeah, Tempe Arizona. And I've been to Tempe, Arizona, and
- 19:50Speaker 4: I was very surprised keV that they're doing what they're
- 19:54Speaker 4: going to be doing. So Tempe Arizona is going.
- 19:58Speaker 2: To portion of Tempe. This is just one second.
- 20:01Speaker 4: Portion of Tempsie right there you go, is going to
- 20:06Speaker 4: stop cars and is going to make it very walkable
- 20:11Speaker 4: and allow people to just uh walk around enjoy what
- 20:18Speaker 4: they were saying here, restaurants and shopping and uh you
- 20:23Speaker 4: know all those things that we have. We've done this
- 20:25Speaker 4: in New York City though before too, right, we've blocked
- 20:28Speaker 4: off the.
- 20:29Speaker 2: Bike lanes, like the whole like most of times Square
- 20:32Speaker 2: is now barely passable by cars. Like they've really turned
- 20:36Speaker 2: it into a big park.
- 20:38Speaker 4: Yeah, it is. And I think that this is going
- 20:41Speaker 4: to it's going to be considered the first a car
- 20:45Speaker 4: free neighborhood in the US, and residents say it feels
- 20:48Speaker 4: like living in Europe. It's called cul de Sac in
- 20:52Speaker 4: Tempe Arizona, and it's going to replace parking lots and
- 20:56Speaker 4: traffic with walkable streets, courtyards, shops, and trans connections. So
- 21:02Speaker 4: I think this is a fabulous idea.
- 21:05Speaker 2: One of my favorite things to do, especially in other countries,
- 21:08Speaker 2: is to be in those sections where you can just
- 21:11Speaker 2: navigate and walk. I think when I took my bride
- 21:15Speaker 2: to Paris for our fifteenth anniversary. We one day walked
- 21:20Speaker 2: twelve miles, twelve miles.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Without even realizing it, without.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Barely realizing it. And by the time we got done,
- 21:28Speaker 2: you know that we had, like, I don't know, one hundred
- 21:30Speaker 2: and fifty thousand steps. So say it was crazy what
- 21:32Speaker 2: we had, but it was. But you got lost. You
- 21:35Speaker 2: just got lost in the city and the discovery of everything.
- 21:38Speaker 2: And I wish there were more places like that, to
- 21:40Speaker 2: be honest, in America, because I think, you know, I
- 21:43Speaker 2: like the suburbs. I like the convenience of cars. I
- 21:46Speaker 2: like being able to go and get where I need
- 21:47Speaker 2: to go and that kind of thing. But I do
- 21:50Speaker 2: there is a piece of me that enjoys the kind
- 21:52Speaker 2: of unfettered just you know, walking and exploring and pedestrianing
- 21:57Speaker 2: it out.
- 21:59Speaker 4: I agree with you. So this is what they call
- 22:01Speaker 4: a purpose built neighborhood, right, So it's been manufactured to
- 22:07Speaker 4: do exactly what it's going to be doing. So they
- 22:10Speaker 4: traded car filled streets and parking garages for it, says
- 22:14Speaker 4: dense whitewashed housing situated around plazas that are lined with
- 22:19Speaker 4: restaurants and shops. And we figured that right, uh, paved
- 22:23Speaker 4: pathways and it's like a neighborhood of the future. Right,
- 22:27Speaker 4: there's going to be a pool, a gym, a coworking space,
- 22:32Speaker 4: which I find very interesting, but a lot of those
- 22:34Speaker 4: are popping up. We have Mars Town to a dog park.
- 22:39Speaker 4: So instead of jump, they said, instead of jumping in
- 22:41Speaker 4: a car and driving to work, you're going to be
- 22:43Speaker 4: able to walk or go to the co working space
- 22:45Speaker 4: or you know whatever. And there's a National forest nearby,
- 22:49Speaker 4: so if you want to go and take a hike,
- 22:51Speaker 4: which I think a lot of people should do. I
- 22:54Speaker 4: love it and I think that it's a great thing.
- 22:58Speaker 4: So so this is just going to enhance the beauty
- 23:01Speaker 4: of an already beautiful Arizona and Tempe is fabulous. So listen.
- 23:07Speaker 4: I can't wait till I'm actually gonna go visit keV No.
- 23:10Speaker 2: I think it would be fun to do that. In fact,
- 23:12Speaker 2: I think it would be fun to do a show
- 23:13Speaker 2: from there. But the neighborhood has what six hundred units
- 23:18Speaker 2: according to an architect firm called Opticos. That includes studio's
- 23:22Speaker 2: one bedroom, two bedroom, three bedroom homes, and then there
- 23:25Speaker 2: are more than twenty apartment designs and floor plans that
- 23:28Speaker 2: you can choose from, so it's like it is kind of.
- 23:33Speaker 4: Being in Greece. One of them said, President cul de
- 23:35Speaker 4: Sac Residence, and it's like being in Greece. How beautiful
- 23:39Speaker 4: is that? I'm going That's it.
- 23:41Speaker 2: And the monthly rates for the studio start at thirteen hundred.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Compare that to Manhattan prices. Yez, you can't. You can't
- 23:49Speaker 2: get into a studio here under probably sixty five hundred
- 23:52Speaker 2: sixty five.
- 23:52Speaker 4: Yeah, you're right.
- 23:53Speaker 2: Six studio studio.
- 23:55Speaker 4: Yeah, oh my god. Crazy New York is crazy. Sorry,
- 23:58Speaker 4: I'm not a fan.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Nope, we are.
- 24:00Speaker 4: It's not a fan.
- 24:02Speaker 2: I mean, look, I'm not gonna lie. This last weekend,
- 24:05Speaker 2: I was in the city for a thing and they
- 24:07Speaker 2: allowed us to bring plus ones and so my bride
- 24:10Speaker 2: and I got to spend just the after we checked
- 24:13Speaker 2: out of the hotel and they put us up at
- 24:15Speaker 2: the at the Carlisle. Not a bad deal. But we
- 24:19Speaker 2: spent all Saturday just walking up and down Madison Avenue,
- 24:23Speaker 2: which we used to do when we were younger, when
- 24:24Speaker 2: we first moved out here. But it was fun to do,
- 24:28Speaker 2: like just to walk to go into the things that
- 24:31Speaker 2: she wanted to see because there wasn't any stores on
- 24:32Speaker 2: Madison Avenue I cared about much. And then you know
- 24:36Speaker 2: where we ended up was the Dior spot at fifty
- 24:41Speaker 2: seventh and Madison, and they the Dior store there is
- 24:46Speaker 2: you know, it's typical door bags and stuff. But the
- 24:48Speaker 2: lady that was waiting on us just struck up a
- 24:51Speaker 2: conversation with my bride and she goes, you know what,
- 24:53Speaker 2: there's this. We're starting a little tea room just around
- 24:56Speaker 2: the corner and I can get you in personally, totally
- 24:59Speaker 2: compliments of the house. And we went and had a
- 25:01Speaker 2: cup of tea after all of it, and it was
- 25:02Speaker 2: like that was the perfect perfect ending. Anyway, be right back,
- 25:05Speaker 2: she's Lynda. I'm Kevin.
- 25:06Speaker 4: Okaway what a little moonline can do.
- 25:14Speaker 2: It's radio night life. Here's Kevin mccollor. Welcome back. It's
- 25:18Speaker 2: travel night. And there are things that we talk about
- 25:21Speaker 2: that aren't related to travel at all. And then some
- 25:24Speaker 2: of the travel stories we talk about are kind of interesting,
- 25:26Speaker 2: including one about butter Lady Linda.
- 25:29Speaker 4: I don't know, Kevin, this is actually stupid, but let's
- 25:32Speaker 4: talk about it early, because stupidity should be on our
- 25:35Speaker 4: agenda sometimes just to vent about how stupid this is
- 25:40Speaker 4: and actually travel and leisure, and I like travel and leisure.
- 25:43Speaker 4: I cannot believe that this piece made it into their repertoire.
- 25:48Speaker 4: So this guy, okay, his name is Elliot Harrell. Apparently
- 25:52Speaker 4: he wrote the story, tried bringing butter butter through airport
- 25:56Speaker 4: security to see what TSA would do. And here's what happened.
- 26:00Speaker 4: He says that butter is having its day and people
- 26:05Speaker 4: are trying to bring butter back from all different parts
- 26:10Speaker 4: of the world. So he decided, going through the Cincinnati
- 26:14Speaker 4: airport that he would bring butter and put it in
- 26:18Speaker 4: his carry on and see what happened. It was not illegal.
- 26:24Speaker 4: He wanted to know. Basically, if you bring it back
- 26:27Speaker 4: as a solid, this is like a science experiment now
- 26:30Speaker 4: and it's like what your teacher would give you to
- 26:32Speaker 4: do old this summer. Yeah, so if you're bringing it back, okay,
- 26:38Speaker 4: what happens. Is it considered a solid? Is it considered
- 26:42Speaker 4: a liquid? Because the TSA is now allowing three point
- 26:46Speaker 4: four ounces or less contained in a quart size bag
- 26:51Speaker 4: or in that little bag, right, which actually is more
- 26:56Speaker 4: than they were. Remember they were two ounces I think
- 26:58Speaker 4: at one time, right, I'm the worst person ask because
- 27:01Speaker 4: do as I say. Now as I do. I carry
- 27:04Speaker 4: full size toiletries with me and my kids are like,
- 27:08Speaker 4: you're crazy.
- 27:09Speaker 2: But do you put them in the in the carry
- 27:11Speaker 2: on or do you pack them?
- 27:12Speaker 4: No, they're packed in my yeah, my suitcase, because why
- 27:17Speaker 4: buy them the next time I need to travel?
- 27:19Speaker 2: Stop? You could you could easily pack the butter in
- 27:22Speaker 2: your suitcase too. Check.
- 27:24Speaker 4: Well, apparently he didn't do that, So there was speculation
- 27:27Speaker 4: last year that TSA might discontinue the policy that requires
- 27:31Speaker 4: ol liquids to be packed three point four ounces or more.
- 27:34Speaker 4: So he gets this thing through. And apparently he did
- 27:38Speaker 4: get his butter through. But like Kevin, who cares about
- 27:43Speaker 4: the butter? Tell me what I don't understand the importance
- 27:48Speaker 4: of this entire experiment, was you tell me?
- 27:51Speaker 2: Well, I I don't know what's in his mind, Like
- 27:54Speaker 2: it's it's impossible for me to see what. But I
- 27:57Speaker 2: will say that there are some butters that are so
- 28:00Speaker 2: good that you would want to pack them and bring
- 28:02Speaker 2: them home.
- 28:03Speaker 4: And really, I've had some Paris, he says, Paris, Paris
- 28:07Speaker 4: has really good butter runch butter.
- 28:10Speaker 2: What so, what butter do you have in your So
- 28:12Speaker 2: you're you're the Italian Nona. You've you've got the you've
- 28:16Speaker 2: got the packed pantry and the fridge.
- 28:18Speaker 4: You don't want to know what.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Brand of butter is in Linda Parillo's refrigerator.
- 28:23Speaker 4: Okay, would I want to do something really special?
- 28:27Speaker 2: Now? I mean, right now, what butter do you have
- 28:29Speaker 2: in your fridge?
- 28:30Speaker 4: Probably a Wegmans?
- 28:32Speaker 2: Okay, well, there you go.
- 28:34Speaker 4: I don't use a lot of butter. I don't fry
- 28:35Speaker 4: a lot. I'm very careful. I don't do all that stuff. However,
- 28:39Speaker 4: when it comes to needing good butter for baking and
- 28:42Speaker 4: for cooking, Kerry Gold.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Carry gold Ireland. Yeah it does.
- 28:47Speaker 4: That comes from Ireland. But I don't understand why we
- 28:51Speaker 4: need to we get imported butter here. You can buy
- 28:54Speaker 4: gourmet butter anywhere, for example, Kerry Gold, Right, why do
- 28:58Speaker 4: we need to bring it back from Paris? They use Listen,
- 29:02Speaker 4: Europeans do a lot more with They don't do a
- 29:05Speaker 4: lot of salt, so they don't do a lot of
- 29:07Speaker 4: salted butter, right. I mean the only thing that the
- 29:10Speaker 4: Italians like to salt is your pasta water. They call
- 29:13Speaker 4: ben salata very you know, well salted pasta water. But
- 29:18Speaker 4: they're butters if you go to spread it on a
- 29:21Speaker 4: piece of bread, it's cream. It's it's not a salted butter,
- 29:24Speaker 4: it's a cream butter. So I don't understand why. I mean,
- 29:28Speaker 4: the cows are better. Do they taste better? They have
- 29:31Speaker 4: more fat? No, but seriously, there may be more fat
- 29:33Speaker 4: content that gives it a more adelar flavor.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Well, in northern Italy, even within Italy, in northern Italy,
- 29:40Speaker 2: there's that section and I'm trying to remember which portion
- 29:43Speaker 2: of the country that it's in. That's in the higher altitude,
- 29:45Speaker 2: that's in the mountains. But there's these cows that only
- 29:49Speaker 2: they only raise up on those mountains, and they only
- 29:52Speaker 2: eat the grasses that are grown on those mountains. And
- 29:54Speaker 2: they say that the butter and the milk and the
- 29:58Speaker 2: cream that they get from those cows are unlike anything
- 30:01Speaker 2: else that you taste on like raw milk.
- 30:03Speaker 4: Here, it's probably you know, like you know a little
- 30:06Speaker 4: bit akin to like raw milk, like when we get
- 30:09Speaker 4: like fresh raw milk from a dairy where they have
- 30:12Speaker 4: done nothing to it. There's no pasteurization, of homogenization, nothing, right,
- 30:16Speaker 4: So you get that cream on the top, and then
- 30:18Speaker 4: you get the raw milk on the bottom and if they.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Say your own griss, the climate, the grass and ha
- 30:26Speaker 2: has and for however, many centuries, these these families that
- 30:30Speaker 2: live in these areas have been raising this type of
- 30:33Speaker 2: cattle specifically for these products because they're the only place
- 30:37Speaker 2: on earth that you can get them in there.
- 30:40Speaker 4: Why does everything taste better when you're in Italy? Why
- 30:42Speaker 4: does everything taste better? Because when you come over here
- 30:44Speaker 4: and you try to mimic the way they cook, the
- 30:47Speaker 4: way they did this, the way they did that, because
- 30:49Speaker 4: our FDA has certain restrictions even on our imports, that
- 30:54Speaker 4: make the food taste differently. Oh, and we can never
- 31:00Speaker 4: really get it right. You eat something here that we
- 31:02Speaker 4: say is authentic Italian, and I clock very authentically. It's
- 31:06Speaker 4: never the same as when I go over there. Where
- 31:09Speaker 4: I'm going in two weeks, by the way, Yeah.
- 31:11Speaker 2: And where are you going? Specifically?
- 31:13Speaker 4: We are going to Venice, we are going to Florence,
- 31:15Speaker 4: we are going to Naples, and we are going to
- 31:16Speaker 4: Rome twelve days with my kids in tow on a
- 31:20Speaker 4: perillo tour. So it ought to be interesting and fun
- 31:23Speaker 4: at the same time.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Wow, that'll be fun. Yeah, So was there anything that
- 31:28Speaker 2: you've ever tried food? Stuffs wise to get through in
- 31:31Speaker 2: your carry on that you got stopped for.
- 31:33Speaker 4: Nope, because I think I knew early on. Don't do that.
- 31:37Speaker 4: They will stop you and they will take it out.
- 31:39Speaker 4: Watch Contraband on the Discoverage History Discovery channel right before
- 31:45Speaker 4: Josh Gates every Monday. We watch them try to get
- 31:48Speaker 4: stuff through the Mexican border, and it's like, why are
- 31:51Speaker 4: you making these attempts? You stupid people. You know you're
- 31:56Speaker 4: going to get caught. The same thing with customs. However,
- 31:59Speaker 4: let me say this, there are places after security in
- 32:04Speaker 4: these airports like Italy right that where they have packaged
- 32:08Speaker 4: salami and cheese is specifically for you to bring home.
- 32:13Speaker 4: You can wait for that. You don't need to bring home.
- 32:17Speaker 4: You know non no Marias you know Parmigiano that she
- 32:21Speaker 4: just got from the cow. I mean, that's not going
- 32:24Speaker 4: to make it. It's not going to cut it well.
- 32:26Speaker 2: And now it's so simple to go to those places
- 32:29Speaker 2: and just to ship it. Just you know, there's there's
- 32:32Speaker 2: this one shop in one of the towns in the
- 32:35Speaker 2: north that's not far from Lake Majore, and we spent
- 32:40Speaker 2: some time in there and they do gourmet olive oils.
- 32:43Speaker 2: And different things. And then they had a wine tasting
- 32:47Speaker 2: that they held for us, but they had a lot
- 32:48Speaker 2: of specialty foods and they had to taste a number
- 32:52Speaker 2: of them, and we were like, this is all wonderful.
- 32:54Speaker 2: We didn't intend to bring anything back in our bags.
- 32:57Speaker 2: We backed a big box and shipped it from the store.
- 33:00Speaker 2: And usually those stores will have better rates on shipping
- 33:04Speaker 2: because they've got they've got a system in place that you.
- 33:07Speaker 4: Cannot bringing it back with you. Get it shipped, I
- 33:09Speaker 4: say to ye, and when.
- 33:10Speaker 2: You get home, it's waiting for you. So it's like
- 33:13Speaker 2: waiting for you.
- 33:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, listen, make it easy on yourself. Stop
- 33:17Speaker 4: trying to pack stuff, getting stuff through. They will go
- 33:19Speaker 4: through your luggage, they will take things to start.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Yeah. All right, Coming back with Perilla's pointers, some go.
- 33:25Speaker 1: Away once again from New York. Here's Radio night Life
- 33:33Speaker 1: and Kevin McCullough.
- 33:35Speaker 2: Welcome back. She's Lenda Perilla. I'm Kevin McCullough, final few
- 33:38Speaker 2: minutes of Radio nine Live, the Travel Night and Linda.
- 33:42Speaker 2: For people that were recently grotesquely interrupted in their travel
- 33:46Speaker 2: plans because of the partial government shutdown, there may be
- 33:50Speaker 2: a new answer to this. What does it entail.
- 33:54Speaker 4: It's the new TSA Gold Plus program, which is going
- 33:58Speaker 4: to privatize a screen at more US airports. So I think,
- 34:03Speaker 4: basically in a nutshell here, Kevin, So I just got
- 34:06Speaker 4: a TSA pre added to my profile and listen, it
- 34:10Speaker 4: was so easy to do. I already had Clear. Clear
- 34:14Speaker 4: was like the precursor to all of this stuff, right,
- 34:17Speaker 4: so now Clear has become a little not antiquated, it's
- 34:20Speaker 4: just not as woke as some of this other stuff.
- 34:24Speaker 4: So I did get the TSA pre and it does
- 34:27Speaker 4: cut down on the line considerably. The big thing apart
- 34:31Speaker 4: from the line, and then I'll get to this in
- 34:32Speaker 4: a second, is not having to take your laptop out,
- 34:37Speaker 4: not having to take off your shoes, I think, which
- 34:39Speaker 4: is pretty rope by now anyway, not having to take
- 34:43Speaker 4: off your jacket. I mean, it's really if you can
- 34:46Speaker 4: get the TSA pre do it this. The gold is
- 34:50Speaker 4: going to do an extra set of screening and allowing
- 34:55Speaker 4: you to cut down on that line. But I think
- 34:57Speaker 4: what they're trying to do is they're trying to get
- 34:59Speaker 4: third party companies to do the screening in conjunction with TSA,
- 35:04Speaker 4: which is going to do what Kevin, if there's ever
- 35:06Speaker 4: another government shutdown, you're still going to have your screeners there,
- 35:11Speaker 4: and if you are with TSA Gold plus Gold, you're
- 35:15Speaker 4: going to be able to still go on your line
- 35:17Speaker 4: and get through without having to deal with any of
- 35:19Speaker 4: the other lines. So I think if you're going to
- 35:22Speaker 4: drop a dime, because there's probably going to be a fee,
- 35:24Speaker 4: there is a fee to do the presa right right
- 35:26Speaker 4: right right, say pre as well, I would do it.
- 35:28Speaker 4: And most of these people, you know, most corporations that
- 35:32Speaker 4: cover their travel for their employees will cover stuff like
- 35:37Speaker 4: this as well. So listen, I think anytime you could
- 35:41Speaker 4: get something, Kevin that will eliminate stress and get you
- 35:45Speaker 4: to the other side fast, just do it. Drop the
- 35:49Speaker 4: dime and do it. You will love yourself for doing that.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I want the program that I can check the
- 35:54Speaker 2: box where Hank doesn't get to feel up my leg anymore.
- 35:57Speaker 2: Like that's that's the thing that I want. You like

- 36:04Speaker 4: Like you know, they go, what's the weird thing?
- 36:07Speaker 2: They go, We've got We've got you know, we need
- 36:10Speaker 2: to step beside, sir, We've got something. I'm like, what
