- 0:02one of the most interesting topics in
- 0:05digital media space right now is
- 0:07programmatic curation and today we're
- 0:09going to get into it with one of the
- 0:11real experts Simon hellstead Simon has
- 0:15worked in digital media for 25 years and
- 0:18has the distinction of having worked at
- 0:21all the original internet portals Yahoo
- 0:24AOL Microsoft including their various
- 0:27rebranded amalgamations which is where I
- 0:30met Simon he is currently the founder of
- 0:33holstead incubation Partners a strategic
- 0:36advisory business supporting companies
- 0:39in their goto Market strategy and their
- 0:41Market launches right now I'm in
- 0:44California and the Sun is streaming in
- 0:47he is in the UK where it is a little bit
- 0:49darker and later in the day Simon thank
- 0:52you for taking the time to talk to me
- 0:54today great to speak to you again James
- 0:56and I'm very jealous of that yellow orb
- 0:59in the sky that appears to be projecting
- 1:01stuff at you haven't seen it for a while
- 1:03in the UK at the moment excellent hey
- 1:06Simon before we get into the latest
- 1:08trends let's just talk about the current
- 1:10state of programmatic you and I have
- 1:12been in the space a really long time and
- 1:15at the beginning programmatic was a
- 1:17dirty word it was associated with
- 1:20Remnant inventory it might have been
- 1:22called class two many Publishers were
- 1:25very hesitant to use it now we're in a
- 1:28world where the vast majority of
- 1:30inventory is transacted programmatically
- 1:34is that a good thing or did we lose
- 1:36something along the
- 1:38way yeah look I'm one of the the
- 1:40original programmatic guys I was one of
- 1:43the early programmatic people in in
- 1:45Europe and I'm always going to say it's
- 1:47a good thing because because lots of
- 1:48it's been good but let's not let's not
- 1:50underestimate by some of the complexity
- 1:52it's actually added in it hasn't solved
- 1:55all of the problems I think it hoped to
- 1:57um and and I think we're all seeing a
- 2:00little bit of things maybe even come
- 2:01full circle so moving from that
- 2:04targeting one to one and targeting
- 2:05anyone wherever they were where you
- 2:07could find them back to much more
- 2:09constrained and structured deals and now
- 2:11we'll talk into some of the curation
- 2:12topics we we're going to touch on today
- 2:15um there's been a load of things that
- 2:17have disrupted the market so just from
- 2:19programmatic and and demand side
- 2:21platforms buying into exchanges
- 2:23initially through things like header
- 2:25bidding so where multiple ssps were
- 2:27servicing the same opportunity
- 2:30um with multiple paths to bid and
- 2:32expanding addressable Supply and
- 2:34competing in the ad server but also also
- 2:38increasing some duplication and
- 2:40complexity in the market things like
- 2:42that drove SPO so they've driven the
- 2:44need to to optimize how you buy your
- 2:46supply and to think about the
- 2:48sustainability of how you buy of which
- 2:50bids I listen to or how do I manage
- 2:52multiple Hops and that's before we get
- 2:55to Identity I live through gdpr rolling
- 2:58out I used to have hair before that I I
- 3:00mean I didn't but it would have had
- 3:02would have taken hair if I still had it
- 3:05uh and those things around
- 3:06addressability of added complexity so
- 3:09those are some of the challenges but but
- 3:10on the positive side we're seeing new
- 3:12mediums new markets come in maybe learn
- 3:14a little bit from that experience as
- 3:16well so ctvs come in much more on a
- 3:20private Marketplace lead approach than
- 3:22that full open auction opportunity
- 3:25digital out of homes taking a lot of
- 3:26learnings about how to get the benefits
- 3:28of scal demand
- 3:30but still maintain some of the control
- 3:32on a more limited private basis I think
- 3:34there's a couple of maxims that apply
- 3:37just because you can work with everyone
- 3:38doesn't mean you should should be really
- 3:40selective about who you partner with and
- 3:42how and why be that on the demand or on
- 3:44the the publisher side and most
- 3:46importantly it's still a people first
- 3:48business uh the experience of being a
- 3:50consultant of the last 18 months is
- 3:52about relationships it's about being
- 3:54able to drive and have those
- 3:56conversations really understand what
- 3:58people's needs so technology helps us
- 4:00programmatic helps us but adds confusion
- 4:03and I think for Publishers it's added
- 4:05some complexity as well uh can we come
- 4:09back to a second for SPO the term you
- 4:11use for Supply path optimization a lot
- 4:14of people are saying that's still one of
- 4:16the biggest challenges that needs to be
- 4:19solved in our space and I think you
- 4:21touched on it but the idea is simply
- 4:23that there are too many intermediat
- 4:25trees and there is too much waste so
- 4:27that of the dollar that uh Advertiser is
- 4:30trying to spend only a fraction makes
- 4:33its way to the publisher um I have taken
- 4:37the other side of that argument and said
- 4:39you know we were at a digital media
- 4:42drinks a couple of weeks ago and we were
- 4:44saying if we were sitting in that Pub
- 4:46and wanted a pizza we could call up door
- 4:49Dash and get a pizza delivered to us and
- 4:52a lot of the fees are going to go to the
- 4:53driver to all of the associated cost of
- 4:56getting the pizza but in doing that
- 4:59we're clear that we're getting some
- 5:01clear value and to me door Dash and
- 5:03other things are a real world example of
- 5:06the value added Services the
- 5:08intermediates along the value chain
- 5:10whether they're verification dsps ssps
- 5:14all of the
- 5:15ecosystem and you know so clearly inter
- 5:18what we might call intermediaries have a
- 5:20role but as you think about it is the
- 5:23goal just to be a little bit more
- 5:24efficient or how do we how should we
- 5:26think about Supply path optimization so
- 5:29so
- 5:30again I think there are a couple of
- 5:31things in there one of the things I
- 5:33think programmatic did is a lot of those
- 5:35costs existed before they were just
- 5:37hidden right so you paid the ticket
- 5:39price and the cost of optimizing was
- 5:41done by a client service team in house
- 5:43right that account management team
- 5:44existed on the publisher side now
- 5:46Publishers don't have the same scale of
- 5:48Team they've moved to a different
- 5:50intermediary in this intermediary in the
- 5:52space so there's a little bit of almost
- 5:53exposure of some of the costs that
- 5:55existed the cost of data is another
- 5:57great example where data's been l on at
- 5:59a different point now with a slightly
- 6:01different goal but the cost of creating
- 6:04that data was already in the previous
- 6:05price structure that said I think there
- 6:08are some challenges where lots of people
- 6:10are trying to take quite sizable
- 6:12percentages through the pipe so I think
- 6:14Supply path optimization is is really
- 6:16about an it has a couple of variants but
- 6:19it's about a couple of things one is
- 6:21about if I have the options for buying
- 6:23this
- 6:23inventory from four the same impression
- 6:26and it's been surfaced to me four ways
- 6:29why which path do I choose and do I
- 6:32choose it because of the relationship
- 6:34the publisher has with that SSP and DSP
- 6:37do I POS it because it had more data on
- 6:40on one opportunity or not is it enhanced
- 6:43in some way so it's understanding how
- 6:45you want your supply paths to look if
- 6:47you're concerned about sustainability
- 6:49you may want the most direct path you
- 6:50may not want those bids to be duplicated
- 6:53if you just want to get the cheapest
- 6:55price you may want to bid wherever you
- 6:57can and try and drive price down with
- 6:59within an auction using that that
- 7:01multiple opportunity but for most people
- 7:04I think it is about understanding where
- 7:06they buy being clear about the past they
- 7:08buy from and had a bidding to a degree
- 7:11proliferated many many exchanges so a
- 7:15little bit back to my first point is you
- 7:18can still work with 10 15 exchanges on a
- 7:21on a campaign you probably don't need
- 7:23work you probably don't need to work
- 7:24with 30 are they really being additive
- 7:27at that point to go from a pub yield
- 7:30side is adding another exchange actually
- 7:33genuinely re Revenue additive and and
- 7:35particularly something that loses sight
- 7:38a little bit is if it adds latency or
- 7:41even adds vendors into a uh a TCF
- 7:45file is it additive enough for the ux
- 7:48and and consumer damage because we
- 7:50sometimes lose sight of the consumer as
- 7:51well so Supply path optimization is
- 7:54really
- 7:55about what's the most efficient way to
- 7:57find the supply you need with the CR
- 7:59material you need and that can be price
- 8:00driven it can be quality driven um but I
- 8:05think from a publisher perspective
- 8:06publish is always want to drive yield
- 8:08it's a tough business being a publisher
- 8:09and so they are always managing the
- 8:11incrementality in that space as well you
- 8:14I want to come up on something you just
- 8:16said about it's okay to work with 15
- 8:18different exchanges because I think I
- 8:21would argue you don't need 15 then you
- 8:24get the vast majority of the value from
- 8:27the first three or four and it might be
- 8:30easy to sort of add another exchange but
- 8:33then that's another relationship that
- 8:34you need to monitor or manage um how
- 8:38much value do you think you get from
- 8:40going from let's say the first three or
- 8:42four exchanges to 15 and then you for
- 8:45you the cut off seems to be 30s too many
- 8:48no I mean I so first of all I think it's
- 8:51really spec it's specific for different
- 8:53Publishers and it's very specific for
- 8:55different buyers so it is a that's why
- 8:58Supply p optimization is an individual
- 9:00brand or publisher Choice how many
- 9:03partners do I want to list for you know
- 9:05if you're a premium publisher that is in
- 9:09everyone's allow list that everyone
- 9:11wants to buy from yeah two to three is
- 9:13almost certainly sufficient right if
- 9:15you're a less well-known publisher and
- 9:18just want to attract demand from
- 9:19multiple sources that that pool is
- 9:22bigger
- 9:24um it's funny your first question was
- 9:26have we lost anything sometimes I think
- 9:28we've lost a little bit of of planning
- 9:30and we're relying too much on machines
- 9:32to do the work I was a terrible terrible
- 9:35digital buyer many many many years ago
- 9:37last century actually um but you know
- 9:41you would plan where you wanted to buy
- 9:42you wouldn't literally put in a system
- 9:44an algorithm make every decision because
- 9:46you couldn't but but even then there's a
- 9:48basis of what is my allow list what is
- 9:51that group of Publishers I want to work
- 9:52with and that's almost coming back to
- 9:54Creation like where is the where is the
- 9:56pool I really want to focus and play and
- 9:58extract value from yeah yeah and and I
- 10:03realize it sounds like I'm coming out on
- 10:04the side of saying Supply path
- 10:06optimization is not that big a deal and
- 10:08that's actually not what I'm saying I
- 10:11think it is a huge issue and I think
- 10:13part of it is on both sides the
- 10:15publisher side and the demand side
- 10:17putting more visibility into these
- 10:20transactions to actually understand and
- 10:22you and I have seen examples where
- 10:24advertisers or agencies could be
- 10:27actually bidding against themselves
- 10:30providing price support and this is
- 10:32perhaps less of an issue now that most
- 10:34have moved to First price auctions but
- 10:36certainly when we're still in second
- 10:38price auctions you know advertisers were
- 10:40providing their own price support
- 10:42because they weren't aware that they
- 10:43were the only buyer on some impression
- 10:45so yeah clearly it's an issue and I
- 10:47think a lot of it can be solved through
- 10:49better visibility uh I promised we' we'd
- 10:52get to to creation and so let's get
- 10:55there now how do you define curation why
- 10:59are people so excited about it and uh
- 11:03what reasons are there that people might
- 11:05be skeptical or
- 11:07concerned so it's a difficult one
- 11:11because there isn't a standard
- 11:12definition of curation and in fact in
- 11:14the last week I've seen it used in two
- 11:16three different cases it's a it's a
- 11:18little bit of a classic industry we love
- 11:19a Hot Topic and a hot take and a an
- 11:23active discussion about the value um and
- 11:26so I often think about curation as it's
- 11:27been called curation in the the S that's
- 11:29being talked about right now it's almost
- 11:32a a topic header which actually has lots
- 11:35of smaller elements in it um some of it
- 11:38is a response to signal loss right with
- 11:40cookie deprecation with the with the
- 11:42decreased amount of addressable cookies
- 11:44that are out there um with concerns
- 11:47about what data passed with
- 11:50gdpr the information that supports each
- 11:52impress is less valuable it's harder to
- 11:54decision against um so curation really
- 11:57falls into a couple of brackets for me
- 12:00one is where Publishers are able to
- 12:03enrich Supply with data they know that
- 12:05they may not want to pass in a bidst
- 12:06stream okay they may want to add some of
- 12:09their first party data or even just
- 12:10their own insight and value in Cross
- 12:13cross-site travels to help identify an
- 12:15audience for a buyer um but they don't
- 12:18want to sit put that in the bid scream
- 12:19they want to keep that that value
- 12:22themselves the the other is um just
- 12:24creation of Po of Supply almost to that
- 12:26allow lless point is finding the groups
- 12:29of Supply that you know perform well for
- 12:31your campaign and brand type and really
- 12:33indexing into those and potentially even
- 12:35being prepared to to pay more or take
- 12:38opportunities outside out of the auction
- 12:40or higher up the auction pay a greater
- 12:42price for a better point of access there
- 12:45then is just curation done at the sort
- 12:47of systemwide level on some some fairly
- 12:48standard signals um I think that bit's a
- 12:51little bit less interesting I think
- 12:52that's a little bit the more the muck
- 12:54side of it um and then you can also
- 12:57Focus your curation really with that
- 12:59that Supply puff optimization and
- 13:01sustainability folks about efficient
- 13:03path to Market what do I want to buy
- 13:05what's the most efficient way so
- 13:09curation can then be seen this is a
- 13:11really long answer I'm sorry James um
- 13:13cation can also then be seen as a
- 13:15service it's a service that's enhancing
- 13:17value and delivered via pmps we've seen
- 13:20Xander index uh launch um and to a
- 13:24degree uh magnite and uh ptic all
- 13:28launched versions of their own curation
- 13:30tools there are other ssps with curation
- 13:32tools I should add um which allow buyers
- 13:35to create some of that Insight that's
- 13:37not available in the bidst Stream and
- 13:39run across the platform we've also seen
- 13:41Standalone companies in this space do
- 13:43well big news obviously in the last week
- 13:46with' Experian leveraging curation by
- 13:48buying orig and and other aspects to
- 13:50that deal as well so it could be
- 13:53something that's delivered via pmps by
- 13:55existing D dsps and pip workk can also
- 13:57be something that's delivered by service
- 14:00it's something where someone is able to
- 14:01create that value from signals that are
- 14:03out there um and again all the way back
- 14:05to the start of our conversation
- 14:07programmatic was going to get rid of
- 14:09every ad Network out there in all
- 14:10managed service well that has not
- 14:12happened right managed service still a
- 14:13really valuable route where people
- 14:15either have greater Insight or
- 14:16operational knowledge than you and can
- 14:19deliver real value so it's a really
- 14:21interesting space because it's all of
- 14:23those things I don't think it needs to
- 14:25be overdefined but I do think the
- 14:27principle behind it is good is the
- 14:29underlying principles are strong
- 14:31identification of what you want to need
- 14:33and then making those things work well
- 14:35for you con having a more direct
- 14:37relationship with Publishers having more
- 14:40insight and information being passed and
- 14:42actually creating a better value
- 14:44exchange than just relying on just a buy
- 14:46side algorithm often which historically
- 14:49either index it to some price elements
- 14:51as their driver or index it to some very
- 14:53specific data points and now you're
- 14:55enriching with with other additional
- 14:57data points so I have one really strong
- 15:00view in this area um curation should be
- 15:04something done in partnership with a
- 15:05publisher it should be about either
- 15:07unlocking publisher value that isn't
- 15:09available in the bidst Stream or it's
- 15:11something where you're getting access to
- 15:13more premium Supply it shouldn't be just
- 15:15rebadging of open auction inventory with
- 15:18one simple signal it's really much more
- 15:20involved conversation I think that's
- 15:21where the opportunity will come so so
- 15:24given what you just said and the fact
- 15:26that there's activity around this
- 15:28there's announce ments there's merges
- 15:30and Acquisitions clearly it's a Hot
- 15:32Topic and as you said I think it's in
- 15:34response to some of the Privacy
- 15:36challenges and signal loss are you
- 15:39optimistic that it's going to become
- 15:43both more standard and be effective in
- 15:46dealing with that standard loss do you
- 15:48see this as something that we're going
- 15:49to be talking about in a couple of years
- 15:52of okay glad that happened the industry
- 15:54is in a better place or is this going to
- 15:56be in the category of some of the things
- 15:58that we' talked about that sort of come
- 16:00and go and never really become a
- 16:03long-term part of the
- 16:05ecosystem so uh I'm I I think it's
- 16:10important and I think it will be part of
- 16:13the
- 16:14conversation that said I think it's a
- 16:16really hot topic right now maybe not
- 16:18even for the right reasons I think it's
- 16:20just we love a hot take and we love a
- 16:22Hot Topic and we love to rip some things
- 16:24apart if we really strip it
- 16:27back it's a it's a really simple
- 16:29activity right it's making certain that
- 16:31you're buying into the right areas and
- 16:33as a seller you're selling the right
- 16:35audiences the right way to the right
- 16:36people it's really 101 stuff to a degree
- 16:40but it's making it work and it's dealing
- 16:41with some of the inefficiencies that
- 16:42actually do exist in programmatic
- 16:45ecosystems um so I think it will be a
- 16:47big thing I actually hope it will be a
- 16:48big thing that's talked about less um
- 16:51and that would be real success like the
- 16:53the benefits of curation being done more
- 16:56widely um with some standardization no
- 16:59school that um I just saw today or
- 17:02yesterday that I think Tech Lab are
- 17:04talking about redefining seller defined
- 17:06audiences to be curated audiences I
- 17:08think that's useful Anthony kater put up
- 17:11a great piece a couple of weeks ago
- 17:13about a lot of the stuff that does exist
- 17:15to help people curate inventory well or
- 17:17buy better is already there so I so I
- 17:21think it's going to evolve and sise but
- 17:23I actually at the same time almost hope
- 17:25the conversation quietens down a little
- 17:27people just get on with the actual work
- 17:29of doing it because there's real value
- 17:31there talking I was talking to a couple
- 17:34of curators recently multilocal um a
- 17:36local UK original company um and they've
- 17:39had real success right they deliver real
- 17:41value for their clients their clients
- 17:42are really happy their clients on the
- 17:44publisher side and the demand side are
- 17:47happy so that feels like something
- 17:48that's working and got legs um and
- 17:51there's real opportunities to go on and
- 17:53obviously I think it's a real vote of
- 17:55confidence when someone like Experian
- 17:57make a big buy like order right that's
- 17:59commitment there is value to be found in
- 18:01this space so this definitely a thing
- 18:04it's definitely not just a buzzword
- 18:06bingo there's a little bit of buzzword
- 18:08bingo right now
- 18:09though um I guess I'd be rent to walk
- 18:13away from this conversation without
- 18:14pushing you a bit on what type of
- 18:16curation is going to be most effective
- 18:19because one way of viewing this is it's
- 18:21just another version of sort of audience
- 18:24targeting from the publisher side using
- 18:26a different methodology if you think
- 18:29about the types of audiences that could
- 18:31be curated there's sort of I'd call
- 18:34traditional almost behavioral targeting
- 18:36type audiences there's demographic
- 18:39audiences you could create audiences
- 18:42around propensity to be a likely clicker
- 18:45as you think about the signals that the
- 18:47Publishers have at their at their
- 18:49disposal and you say you know this
- 18:51should be absolutely done with the
- 18:52Publishers input what are the types of
- 18:55signals that you think are going to lead
- 18:57to the most effective pated
- 19:01audiences so I
- 19:03think you actually highlighted I think
- 19:06both I think you use two there's two
- 19:08example of high propensity clickers
- 19:10versus a behavioral audience I think
- 19:13they're distinct values and also there's
- 19:14a there there's third category of them
- 19:16combined I think all of them have legs
- 19:18and value for for me uh I do think it's
- 19:22going to come about where the real value
- 19:24of curation is where you can across
- 19:26multi- Publishers tie additional data
- 19:29point so you're able to take really
- 19:33deeper understood behavioral audiences
- 19:35than people want to share in a bid
- 19:36stream on each individual publisher and
- 19:39then curate those across Publishers to
- 19:41give you a decent targetable poll that's
- 19:44where I think you start to really get to
- 19:45the value where you know targeting if
- 19:47you apply that targeting just on the buy
- 19:49side it's often quite self- selective
- 19:52just because of addressability issues
- 19:54and where it can find those impression
- 19:55if you allow every impression that could
- 19:57fit those criteria to surfaced and
- 19:59remove some of that Target on the demand
- 20:01side then I think you'll see real
- 20:03success there the one I also think we'll
- 20:06have real legs is people looking for to
- 20:08a degree margin efficiency right where
- 20:10people want to really drive through
- 20:14prices of effective working
- 20:16media um and maybe you know move past
- 20:19some of the take rates that exist in the
- 20:21market as well I think trying to make
- 20:24certain that the Publishers understand
- 20:25where money is being taken is important
- 20:28um and trying to make certain the the
- 20:30fees on it are efficient for everybody
- 20:32um is a is an area of development for
- 20:35for the next couple of years as well I
- 20:36think I think it's an area that could
- 20:38get quite aggressive and competitive and
- 20:39I think that's good for
- 20:41Publishers one thing uh I was just
- 20:44thinking about as you were talking is
- 20:46Publishers have signals that they
- 20:48haven't really used a lot recently
- 20:51because it is mov to the demand side I'm
- 20:54wondering if some of them will move back
- 20:55and I'll give you an example I don't
- 20:57know if you were at AOL the time but
- 20:59ad.com had a lot of information around
- 21:03is this person early in a session
- 21:06essentially is it like the first
- 21:07impression they see or the second
- 21:09impression that they see right now most
- 21:13mansai can see those kinds of signals
- 21:16and they use them in their buying
- 21:17algorithms if the premises curation is a
- 21:20response to some of those signals going
- 21:22away do you see more of that
- 21:24intelligence moving back to the
- 21:26publisher side to get sophisticated in
- 21:29how they think about things like as as a
- 21:32user early
- 21:33ination yeah and actually I think
- 21:36um uh Publishers often also choose not
- 21:39to pass that information broadly into
- 21:40the bid stream right so with good reason
- 21:43and I think it's an opportunity for them
- 21:44to extract some of the value from
- 21:46understanding that that's why it's not
- 21:48just contextual or behavioral right it's
- 21:50or it's it's other behavioral elements
- 21:53it's time of day it's you know a really
- 21:56good example someone said to me is
- 21:59what's the difference in someone who
- 22:00comes in and looks at news then sport
- 22:02then travel versus someone who comes in
- 22:03and looks at Travel news and goes back
- 22:05to travel th those are two different
- 22:08consumers with two very different modes
- 22:10of behavior but if you just targeted
- 22:13contextually you might not get them in
- 22:15the right mode in the right frame so
- 22:16that's where Publishers are able to lay
- 22:19more value into it and particularly
- 22:21where Publishers don't necessarily have
- 22:22their own direct sales effort or scale
- 22:25they can then work with partner curation
- 22:26Partners be that either at the SSP or
- 22:29even their agency partners to create
- 22:30these audiences at enough scale that
- 22:32they have real value so I I think it
- 22:34should help address that I'm
- 22:36occasionally too optimistic and algori
- 22:38you know I genuinely believe that um rtb
- 22:40was going to lead to some good
- 22:41democratization as well sometimes human
- 22:44behavior gets a little bit in the way
- 22:45and we all try and find it a cheat
- 22:47around the a cheat around the corner but
- 22:49um but those are good cases where I
- 22:51think it will will come to the full but
- 22:53look the other thing is this is just a
- 22:55This Is Why We Shouldn't build it up to
- 22:56be this massive thing this is just part
- 22:59of a campaign tactic this is just part
- 23:02of our audience identification right
- 23:04it's um it applies equally as it to CTV
- 23:08as it does to um online to to display
- 23:12and video it's it's how do you find
- 23:15those audiences in the way that once and
- 23:17it creation might just be about outcomes
- 23:19right it might be not necessar getting
- 23:20to a CPA but it might be it might be
- 23:22getting to C A completed view it might
- 23:24be knowing that the metric that matters
- 23:27there's a different debate there about
- 23:28when we get driven by metrics versus
- 23:30actual value for The Advertiser but um
- 23:33there are lots of different points of
- 23:35creation it what won't work is if it
- 23:38becomes ubiquitous and it just becomes
- 23:40literally just another deal ID that is
- 23:42curated because that's not really doing
- 23:45they'll become you
- 23:47know they'll just become pumped out and
- 23:49it will just lead to confusion so I
- 23:51think it's some more Nuance conversation
- 23:53I think that's where real value can be
- 23:54had okay thank you other than curation
- 23:59what are you most excited about in the
- 24:01programmatic world right now so I'm
- 24:04going to I'm going to start uh with I'm
- 24:06excited about lots of things we were
- 24:08saying just before we started um I'm
- 24:11actually the last few years have been
- 24:12pretty tough with covid with the
- 24:14economic circumstance with the even the
- 24:16m&a market has been pretty tough right
- 24:18and feels to me like there's a new burst
- 24:21of excitement coming towards
- 24:22programmatic there's lots of other new
- 24:23exciting areas like AI we're not going
- 24:25to say II AI right now but I think
- 24:28there's going to be a lot of reinvention
- 24:29in the programmatic space there's
- 24:31potentially things with the doj trials
- 24:34and some of the the competition
- 24:35authorities looking at some of the large
- 24:37players I think there's going to be some
- 24:39big disruption over the next two three
- 24:40years none bigger than the demise of of
- 24:44cookies as they have been even though
- 24:45they're already in very sharp decline I
- 24:48think that's going to create
- 24:48opportunities for Innovation that's
- 24:51great I think it also may make may get
- 24:55us away from the concept and focus on
- 24:58real onetoone targeting and back to
- 25:01better measurement of success and better
- 25:03focus on cohorts and audiences and
- 25:06delivering versus literally being able
- 25:07to retarget someone based on an action
- 25:10so those things all come together to
- 25:11drive there is huge amounts of work to
- 25:14be done on measurement it's the biggest
- 25:16thing that everyone I think needs to
- 25:17lean into and also for the open web some
- 25:20standardization to allow us to compete
- 25:23better more evenly with the large
- 25:25players that will help in the CTV space
- 25:27as well
- 25:29but um I think it's just an exciting
- 25:30time James I really do I think um lots
- 25:33of interesting companies out there lots
- 25:34of bright ideas lots of emergence things
- 25:37like CTV that have been through Rapid
- 25:39explanation probably hitting a little
- 25:40bit of maturity where they're now going
- 25:42to go through a clean up and reinvention
- 25:45phase and that's a good thing too
- 25:46because that kicks you on to the next
- 25:47stage of growth but as I
- 25:51say if the last from Co onwards I think
- 25:54it's been a really tough time this last
- 25:57six months has felt more more
- 25:58interesting and I think the next 18
- 26:00months is going to be really exciting
- 26:01for the whole
- 26:03industry 100% agree with you it's it's
- 26:05been some dark days in sort of digital
- 26:08media and digital advertising and as you
- 26:09and I discussed before we started I
- 26:11think that the last few months have had
- 26:12a different feel more optimistic feel
- 26:15about them and and so I think we're in
- 26:17agreement there yeah Simon thank you so
- 26:20much for taking the time what's the best
