- 0:00It's bonus time, we're honored Athletics, LLC would allow us to
- 0:03present to you the audio version of their weekly Friday Night,
- 0:06YouTube series. Let's get to and see what the
- 0:08crew has in store this week. Lamar always getting that last
- 0:41word in, right before the record happens, right?
- 0:45So, anyhow, anyhow, welcome to another fun at the sewed of
- 0:49Athletics, but we'll see. I have to get, like sound
- 0:52effects to do that, for, like, the digitizer.
- 0:55So, anyhow, you could do the right thing and just stop doing
- 0:59it. No, that's no fun.
- 1:02I like it, I like it. That's no fun.
- 1:06So we'll see where you're always with.
- 1:17So obviously we have five tiles. We're missing an extra tile but
- 1:21we've got to guess this week so I'll definitely say hi and give
- 1:24a great introduction for that tile but we'll let the gentleman
- 1:28say hi and hellos. So I'm going with the easy one
- 1:32first governor, how are you today still getting over this
- 1:36flu and Feeling better every day.
- 1:40So, got a big weekend, is Homecoming.
- 1:43Coming up this weekend. So, you know, trying to rest up
- 1:46as much as I possibly can because, you know, it's going to
- 1:50be hectic. But, yeah, you know, no, rest
- 1:54for the weary. No.
- 1:55After you said, help. Texas is in read last week.
- 1:58I literally like, sanitized everything.
- 2:01Like, I can't do it. I can't do it.
- 2:03I told the kids share anything doorknobs, wash my hands.
- 2:08Oh yeah. Not have this CDC will scare the
- 2:16bejesus really. Well I'm getting my flu shot
- 2:30tomorrow so I'm good. Anyhow sir Lucius how are you
- 2:34this evening? Sir?
- 2:36I am wonderful. Backpack in my homes, my home
- 2:39City, hanging out for a couple of days, check on my mama, and
- 2:43I'm good. Look, a little chilly up here,
- 2:46but can you give everyone an update on Mom?
- 2:55Since everybody heard there was no mamas, mamas mamas, she's
- 3:00doing better. She was up in Cleveland had a
- 3:03procedure after the Cleveland Clinic and she's now back here
- 3:06in Columbus actually. Just a little bit outside of
- 3:09Columbus said, Canal Winchester. But um she's at a rehab facility
- 3:12there and she's doing well and I spent a couple hours with her
- 3:15there today and up lifted our spirits and much so it was a
- 3:19good deal. Good.
- 3:20I'm sure that's gonna make a lot of people happy here.
- 3:22So good. Thank you for being going to
- 3:25thank everybody for all their prayers.
- 3:27I do. Awesome.
- 3:29Awesome C. And then this man goes and
- 3:33changes his name like twice and then I don't even know how to
- 3:35pronounce when you just put the, Mariano Yankees and 60 this
- 3:42pretty good, it was okay. If you are a Yankee fan, you
- 3:56take These shots which is fine, right?
- 4:00You, you know that when you when you join the fandom at Birth.
- 4:04And and so one of my guys, his dad was running off at the mouth
- 4:08when he was here in town, when the Yankees got walked off in
- 4:13game three. And so, that were down to 21 in
- 4:15the twins. He's like, oh, they're done.
- 4:17He leaves tomorrow. I said, well, I'm not an NCAA
- 4:20coach, so I got money since if we win, not only game for but
- 4:23game fun. Good answer.
- 4:25Kept running his mouth. I can't hear you.
- 4:29This conversation we kept running his mouth.
- 4:31Like, okay, so we won game 4. I was like, I don't hear nothing
- 4:35because your money is not what your mouths at and he's like oh
- 4:37they're definitely going to lose the five bubbles, like, wait a
- 4:40minute, you just told me they're gonna lose him for and Gerrit
- 4:42Cole was trash and he wasn't going to get it done.
- 4:44He won two games, okay? So after Giancarlo hit the three
- 4:48run home run earlier in the first inning, I called him was
- 4:51like same energy. No, yeah, same energy.
- 4:56So yeah, that's where we're at. That's a wrap.
- 5:00Sorry, I asked, why is better? Because you asked if you see,
- 5:07no, I'm well, I'm gonna let you wrap with that because I think
- 5:09this is not going to go well, for me, the better what I say.
- 5:12No, it isn't as long as as long as we all know, right after the.
- 5:19Yes. It's going as well.
- 5:23Take our walk away. Yes, we will last and last but
- 5:27definitely not. I'm sorry, we have a great face,
- 5:33a great tile to join us. We have the newly appointed
- 5:37recently appointed, not newly appointed director of a track
- 5:40and field for Ohio State. There are definitely other
- 5:44accolades but I'm going to stop at that one so that we can let
- 5:46her talk about Excuse. Excuse me, missed you we need.
- 5:50Proper introductions. Is it?
- 5:52These Ohio, the Ohio. because it is under the Ohio
- 6:25State because I was trying to look up Ohio State for Don't and
- 6:29this wasn't recently, but I was like, oh hio and literally my
- 6:33head I'm hearing your voice Ohi. Oh, and I'm like, I know I'm not
- 6:37that stupid, like, it's four letters, I can't get this wrong.
- 6:40And so finally, I go by some other method and it says, the
- 6:44Ohio State. And I said, you got to be
- 6:47kidding me and trademarks, he is a exactly.
- 6:51It is a thing trainer. Read more real anyhow, it's
- 6:58Roswell. Thank you so much for joining us
- 7:00this evening. Thank you for having me.
- 7:02Thank you. Yo, yo, yo yo well obviously, we
- 7:07know where you are now, but if you wouldn't mind giving us,
- 7:09what you want us to know about, where you've come from and where
- 7:12you been sure. Yeah, I am sobs actually born
- 7:17and raised in Louisville Kentucky.
- 7:19About three hours south of Columbus came to the Ohio State
- 7:23University as a student athlete. I was actually recruited as a
- 7:27400 Hertz. I hate that race whatever.
- 7:32I feel like you have to be a 400 degree of what you have to do
- 7:39love that race. And so admittedly had a coaching
- 7:44change during the the person that recruited me left.
- 7:48And while I missed her a Candy Young, it was an opportunity for
- 7:53me to slide over to the to the long, jump pit.
- 7:57So I took it. I took it.
- 7:58Opportunity just like, I know, you know.
- 8:04So she's not here. I'm just gonna go over there and
- 8:08so had a had a brief stint as a. If you heard on your loans
- 8:13known, you know how that goes. We try to make you more but have
- 8:20you seen me? I can't I can't my life so, you
- 8:25know, ended up just just in the long and the trip.
- 8:29And some relays that the short relay that is as a
- 8:34student-athlete at the Ohio, State University finished my
- 8:38last competition year, and 05, 2005 graduate in 2006, and
- 8:45thought I was gonna be a teacher.
- 8:47That was the plan, teach third grade had an opportunity had a
- 8:53coach that told me, you know, hey, you want to go to Grad
- 8:56School Auburn University, looking for a grad assistant,
- 8:58you can still train. I took it and I just I went on a
- 9:03whim. I tell the story now I had no
- 9:06clue where Auburn University was.
- 9:08I just I took it and you fly into Atlanta and I thought I can
- 9:13live in Atlanta. You know, it was great.
- 9:30I think so Ralph's prize first person that hired me and you
- 9:35know, treated me like family. I went there as a cinch.
- 9:38It was a ga position but they only had five full-time coaches
- 9:43at the time. So I was actually able to they
- 9:46put me work doing everything. A six full-time coach would do
- 9:50for frying about a fourth of the peso, right?
- 9:55I will do that in this port, for sure.
- 9:57Oh yeah. You know.
- 9:58But I and I hadn't, I didn't know any better.
- 10:01So I thought it was great. The experience it, and no sure
- 10:06coach. I love to learn care logs.
- 10:08And I mean, I thought, wow, they really trust me.
- 10:29I was there for two years during that time, we'll have statehood.
- 10:33Actually, it was a combined program when I was a student
- 10:36athlete, it had split during my time at Auburn.
- 10:39So Karen, this became the head coach for the women and she
- 10:44called she saw me at Nationals said hey you know have position.
- 10:49I need you to apply and you know if I'm honest and it should tell
- 10:53the story sometime. Initially I told her no.
- 10:58And I didn't know if I was ready, you know, all the doubts
- 11:00that you have is probably a new professional, I just didn't
- 11:03know. And so after the phone call
- 11:07where I told her no that day I knew Karen isn't the hell of a
- 11:12recruiter because I was packed my bags but ended up headed to
- 11:17headed back to Columbus Ohio as the women's actually came in as
- 11:22the women's field of it coach. So I had everything, throws
- 11:27povel, all of it. All of it, you know.
- 11:31But but you know, being able to really just have some great
- 11:35mentors. Again, the staff at Auburn
- 11:38supported me as well, I was able to call and get get information.
- 11:42Jerry, Clayton was very good to me from a field event coach.
- 11:45He's a heck of a filament coach and so, I call him say, I got a
- 11:50guy Javelin thrower for help and he would, you know, send me the
- 11:56video. What do you need?
- 11:57What are you, what are you trying to do?
- 11:58Do so really got got an opportunity to grow in the
- 12:02profession and you know, I think what was important is that
- 12:07probably everybody asked me just about every meat.
- 12:12I went to. How'd you get that job?
- 12:13How did you get that job? You know, the resume probably
- 12:17wasn't what they thought it should be the experience you
- 12:21know, whatever it is for a high-caliber job but I really
- 12:24didn't look at it when I was a student athlete here.
- 12:27So it was home. You know, I have a passion for
- 12:30this place and so if someone's going to ask me to do anything,
- 12:34I can do it. Well then I'm going to do it.
- 12:37But to, you know, I learned then that it was a trust-based
- 12:40business. And so, you know, for all the
- 12:43accolades or the resume, or whatever it was, how did you get
- 12:47this job was care. Trusted me.
- 12:50And I didn't want to, you know, do anything to lose that trust.
- 12:54And so really, that's how I work day in and day out.
- 12:58You know, people say I'm Kara likes you but I worked as if
- 13:01Karen's gonna fire me every day, every day.
- 13:05I just never threatened you that but I had you know you have to
- 13:09work that way and know that you know her success is ultimately
- 13:13my success and vice versa so really just whatever needed to
- 13:18be done. I did it.
- 13:21You know whatever wasn't getting done that I thought needed to
- 13:24get done. I did it.
- 13:26And so you know, really just Didn't try to fill the gaps for,
- 13:33you know, obviously someone who's a legendary coach and and,
- 13:36you know, has all the accolades. I just wanted to support and
- 13:39help and I think that that gets lost some time.
- 13:43You know, when you have a vision for how you want your career to
- 13:46be, you start off with the things you want to do, but you
- 13:50have to be able to do the job. You're asked to do do and do it
- 13:53well and so I started there. You know what it, I never did it
- 13:58to be. The egg coach to be associate
- 14:00coach. I was over there doing it for
- 14:03free at the last place. I did it because I wanted to do,
- 14:07you know a good job for the person that put their trust in
- 14:10me. And so I went from women's
- 14:13assistant, coach and 20 She's I know you're that was 2013 out of
- 14:20the leave. They combined the program again
- 14:23and gave Karen both programs. So combined men and women under
- 14:29care and dentists and was was elevated to associate head coach
- 14:32for the men and women and just, you know, kept when and kept
- 14:37doing on the things that needed to be done.
- 14:40And so sick of ten years with with Karen and the program, it
- 14:46really just Just probably knew it was time to grow a little
- 14:50bit, you know, as much as I obviously I'm happy here, I
- 14:54wasn't looking to leave, you know, Karen would tell me that
- 14:57if we don't, if we don't moved and the coaching tree doesn't
- 15:02grow so if everything that she teaching is all in one place and
- 15:06you know, it stays in one place and so got a phone call had an
- 15:11opportunity has many reviews that I didn't get when, were you
- 15:15think you want to be? And Got a phone call of
- 15:18somewhere. I didn't know I needed to be and
- 15:22kind of took the leap of faith that at Southern Illinois, as
- 15:25director for men and women, track and field.
- 15:28And cross country. There was there for four years
- 15:32during that program, I tell you what coaching being a head coach
- 15:36during covid. And the first time head coach, I
- 15:40got more resume experience and more gray hairs than I ever
- 15:45knew. But you know what?
- 15:50I was fortunate to be in a place that you know they supported me
- 15:53and gave me the opportunity and again just wants to do a good
- 15:56job and so the plan or the goal to be honest was was not then
- 16:00come back. I tell everybody I thought that
- 16:03I wanted sold my house the first time, you know, I moved on to
- 16:08grow and so to get a call from Jean Smith recently, you know,
- 16:14saying hey I had mean with Karen We need to talk, you know, I
- 16:19asked you okay? Like, I just want to make sure
- 16:21you know, why are you calling me.
- 16:24And so you know that that for me was really just a blessing to be
- 16:30able to have someone trust me with with a program of this
- 16:35stature. But at the same time, this is
- 16:38second home for me. So again as a student athlete
- 16:40and a coach of spent fifteen, 15 years here.
- 16:44So this is, this is home and and, you know, I had anybody and
- 16:49I tell the team that has anybody in here whatever you've done.
- 16:53I've done it first right in a better.
- 16:55And, you know, and I want to see it continue to grow.
- 16:58So no one's going to have probably a bigger passion for
- 17:03the Ohio State University than that.
- 17:05Then I would do Brad thinks he does, but he done by that's
- 17:11fine. He and I we go back and forth,
- 17:18he's we were actually teammates together.
- 17:21So we have really almost a brother and sister relationship.
- 17:25So I said, I know Joel, since I was 18 years old, I know him
- 17:29since he was he's older and they should be know that that's what
- 17:36he was about 20 going on 18, but you know, we watch each other
- 17:41grow just as people in the profession, you know, we know
- 17:44each other Our spouses, our children.
- 17:46And so, that probably makes it even more special to just see
- 17:50that. That was never a conversation.
- 17:53We had in his teammates about being coaches being coaches at
- 17:57our alma mater. So, you know that, that makes it
- 18:00even more special to share that. Well, I absolutely love hearing
- 18:09your story and I see a Common Thread, you know?
- 18:14And having been through sir lucious's coaching tree and you
- 18:20know, and and experiencing that experience and then going on to
- 18:25Florida State, the Common Thread I'm sensing right there, is that
- 18:30if you were not getting paid, I paid for it, would you still do
- 18:34it? And it's something that's lost
- 18:37on coaches today. That the amount of love that you
- 18:44have to have for your craft amount of love that you have to
- 18:47have for helping young people. You know, helping them develop
- 18:53as men and women. If you could if you can't do
- 18:58this job for free, then, You probably going to have a very,
- 19:04very hard time. Yeah, no, get in it for the
- 19:07money. That's exactly.
- 19:09Exactly. And I don't think it matters
- 19:11what level you're at because even at the highest level mean
- 19:15that dedication to your craft that dedication to your athletes
- 19:20and, you know, the time and energy that spent just trying to
- 19:26get these kids to motivate them, to keep them going.
- 19:30And God knows mean there's So much more.
- 19:33That's it's seeping into our sport now that you're adding
- 19:37layers to. Yeah.
- 19:39Just getting them to the line now, you know.
- 19:42Yeah, so yeah, I appreciate your story.
- 19:47I want to know, you know, were you able to spend time with Gene
- 19:54Smith before you let you moved on to Southern Illinois and what
- 19:58kind of advice did he give you? No, yes I did.
- 20:03You know I made that call with PNR our sport ad at the time.
- 20:08Really just asking career advice.
- 20:11You know when you're hiring, you know, what are you looking for
- 20:17what, you know, what makes a good head coaches coach and a
- 20:21lot of my questions were because I wanted to be successful when I
- 20:25left, right? You want to come back?
- 20:26It was for when I leave her how to, you know, someone who's
- 20:30who's a giant and and just really like he is, you know,
- 20:33what are you looking for? How do people Elevate, you know
- 20:36what, why are people hired? Why are they fired?
- 20:39You know, things like that and I think during that conversation
- 20:43probably did help him realize that, you know, I thought about
- 20:47it more than just, you know, being an assistant.
- 20:53I really thought about the industry, how I can grow and and
- 20:57in that conversation, you know, he he let me know that, you
- 21:00know, where everything You go. If you leave and you done a good
- 21:04job, you you remain an internal candidate and so I took it as a
- 21:10hit but I didn't take it as a hand.
- 21:13So my house, you know, I think just you know, just just to know
- 21:20that in leaving wherever I was going to go, he made the comment
- 21:26that I had left an impression on that program and and more
- 21:30importantly, What? You know, Karen told me I had to
- 21:34go. And so, you know, she joked that
- 21:36anyone that you feel like we're comfortable work.
- 21:38Well, together, I had some success, but again, it was the
- 21:42next step for me too. So to have her and him say you
- 21:46have to do this. You know, I I loved my time at
- 21:50Southern Illinois, but I called a d-bag almost in tears saying
- 21:53I'm coming, you know, because and he understood, you know, but
- 22:00what I appreciate for him at the And as well as, you know,
- 22:04demand, even as a white male. He he knew that you're not going
- 22:09to get a lot of these calls unfortunately and so I want to
- 22:12give you this opportunity because I, you know, I've done
- 22:15the research, you know, he we have some common mentors and
- 22:20people that he knew and so I had to take that as well as as a
- 22:25head that there's not a lot of babies that are going to just
- 22:31try Rust and young black female with their, with their men and
- 22:35women's programs. And so, you know, I couldn't
- 22:39pass that up because I didn't know if they come up again and
- 22:43so that was you know, to be able to have that candid conversation
- 22:46was nice because it's something you thinking about and you're
- 22:50wondering you know, he he you're good he told me then that the 88
- 22:56Southern told me then. Just let me call you back one
- 23:01day and I'll be happy for you. But this is where you can come
- 23:04and I'll support you. So you can grow.
- 23:06And so to have really everyone around me, tell me you have to
- 23:08do this. I mean, cares, last words to me.
- 23:10Were you got to take it or I'm going to fire you so you don't
- 23:13have a job. Okay.
- 23:17I'm coming, I get it but because again, that that growth can be
- 23:23uncomfortable and it can be scary.
- 23:25But, you know, I think that a lot of people saying you're
- 23:27ready You need to do this. It was it was motivating, it was
- 23:32scary but it was motivating. So Jean Smith had you know those
- 23:37words for me is as well as pretty much.
- 23:40I mean everybody that I talk to no one could tell me not to go
- 23:45because of the opportunity to present it.
- 23:48But also the conversation with him meant that it presented an
- 23:51opportunity from We have experience to possibly come back
- 23:57one day, and that was huge. I want everybody to be tuned in
- 24:05from the beginning of this. I hope everybody heard how
- 24:08dedicated you were to being a great assistant coach and that
- 24:12your charge wasn't to be the head coach was to be a great
- 24:16assistant coach because, you know, that was my, my mantras.
- 24:20Well, I was just trying to be a great assistant coach and it
- 24:23grew into what a grew into and so, you know, kudos to you and
- 24:28kudos to those around you. Was fine enough to see what you
- 24:31were doing and Elevate you in the sport.
- 24:33Also, you know, big props to route for give you that
- 24:35opportunity but out of college as well.
- 24:38So my question is, I know you guys have had no pretty good
- 24:42history, but I know from even talking to Karen and talking to
- 24:45Joel a little bit before there's a I would say.
- 24:52I want to be better at the national level.
- 24:56So what do you think you guys have to do to get to be more of
- 25:00a prominent Force at the national level?
- 25:02Because I feel like I feel like you taking notes on me now.
- 25:22I know you better than most right.
- 25:25Karen shared. A lot of work to me about you,
- 25:27doing your growth. And so, I just want people to
- 25:31see that, you're not just throwing paint at the wall,
- 25:33hoping it sticks that you have a plan.
- 25:35I don't look out any specifics because if you ask me some
- 25:37questions I want to use specific.
- 25:38See the right? So we can I mean you know the
- 25:44the sport it is it is what it is on the men's side.
- 25:49You know. I've recruited some Great track
- 25:53and field athletes that are playing on Sunday and they
- 25:56didn't choose to play on Sunday because that's where the money
- 25:59is, you know, but at the same time, I'm if we can get to a
- 26:02point where we're investing in the men, where they feel like
- 26:07this is is an opportunity post-college.
- 26:12Then you can get some of the best men nationally.
- 26:15And I don't I don't see why Ohio State can't be a top five
- 26:19national team and then the way my mind kind of works and we
- 26:22going to be Five walking beat up three and we came.
- 26:25We gonna be top of the reason. I mean that's just where we are.
- 26:29And so, you know, I've already passed the staff with that in
- 26:32the recruiting is that if we're gonna build as they say build,
- 26:39you know, we're not going to start with top 25.
- 26:42Why? Let's get the best in the
- 26:44country in the world and, you know, start moving in.
- 26:48Now there's some, there's some risk to that but the men side
- 26:52Died when they're hitting the hitting it, they not hidden
- 26:57moving along season. But, you know, I just think that
- 27:00there's an opportunity to do that here.
- 27:02And then with the women, there's there's the depth and, you know,
- 27:05I enjoyed the opportunity to grow women in the sport in
- 27:10general. So where sometimes the menu,
- 27:15just find the best athletes and just as you meant generally, get
- 27:20them to the line. But for the women is really You
- 27:22know, a lot that you can do with some numbers and help them grow
- 27:26in the sport and have a, have a national caliber team as well.
- 27:31So I think to answer your coat your question code, you know, we
- 27:36started to look at it differently, / gender and I
- 27:40think, you know that that how its structured it even has been
- 27:45different than when I was here before and I'm trying to be more
- 27:49focused and more individualized with genders.
- 27:52Specific with the Sprint's group is been our bread and butter.
- 27:56I mean, that's no secret. You know, I'm a jumps multi
- 27:59coach but I'm at the meat, I can tell you the points.
- 28:03I know how it works. And so how can we focus there
- 28:06and have a team or have a staff that understands that this is
- 28:11you know this is what we got to do to be National caliber and if
- 28:16the events that we're investing in when we all are win so I mean
- 28:20throws coach the to go see it. A, or her learning this.
- 28:26This is what we gotta do and then other women, how can we
- 28:29find, you know, I don't want to call them the diamond in the
- 28:32rough, but there are a lot of women who don't know, like that
- 28:36was, I was recruited as a 400 hurler and I probably would have
- 28:39been awful at it or not as, you know, long time.
- 28:43I heard that I just I just you know, because I was going to be
- 28:47made into a foreigner. No.
- 28:48But if we can find the passion and figure out, you know, where
- 28:51the growth needs to be and get the the right women, you know,
- 28:55in Right events at the right time, then we have opportunity
- 28:59to really create a special team. So I mean, yeah, not just
- 29:05throwing stuff at the wall. I think the goal right now
- 29:08though is to elevate the men, nationally to build some
- 29:13confidence there with the program when you're at a place
- 29:19like Ohio, State and football sounds like they're, you know,
- 29:22the dominant Force. But what I enjoy about state His
- 29:26there's 36 Sports and that everyday motivates me because
- 29:31wrestling is good. Fencing is good, swimming diving
- 29:35is good, rifle is good. Good.
- 29:39And you don't want to be the scrubs work, you don't want to
- 29:41be the sport where they say, no, well, are you as good as
- 29:44fencing? I want to say yes.
- 29:47And so I think, you know, even the recruiting strategy that we
- 29:50can use with other or from other sports has been helpful as well.
- 29:55So we're yeah. Really have kind of focused on
- 29:58how we can Elevate them in finding just finding the guys
- 30:02that are ready to be here and win nationally.
- 30:06Again, I like the development piece but they're not whole lot
- 30:11of time for that when, you know, trying to win trying to win
- 30:13early. So we only get Contract
- 30:15extensions is the resume proves you deserve Urban.
- 30:20So it's some point, you know, we can't wait till till the end of
- 30:22it. And start talking about what the
- 30:24plan is. We had a guest car now, What's
- 30:30that? Welcome quiet.
- 30:35Are you doing? I'm sorry for my tardiness.
- 30:42Okay. You forgive you sir.
- 30:44Got hit with that Bay Area traffic.
- 30:46Hey listen it was Warriors Warriors opening the season.
- 30:53I don't know what's going on and they're open the season against
- 30:57the Lakers and getting the Rings tonight.
- 31:00Everybody's outside today. Mariano or Clyde you have a
- 31:09question or you bring the light. I had a few but I hope I'm
- 31:14probably, they probably got repeated almost gonna throw out
- 31:16there. If it's already been asked you
- 31:19know, Miss Ross. It's not often.
- 31:25Young coaches are in a position to replace Legends.
- 31:29Do you feel the pressure of that?
- 31:32What is, what is it too? What does it mean to you to you
- 31:36know follow the great Carrington.
- 31:39No I absolutely. I mean you know I think that if
- 31:43you don't recognize that then you probably should be in the
- 31:45seat because that's unseats hot. It's hot, you know but I think
- 31:51again if This wasn't my alma mater.
- 31:55If it wasn't a place that, you know, I felt really entrenched
- 31:59in what you know, what we can do.
- 32:02If I hadn't had the opportunity to see how she's done it and you
- 32:05know feel like some things that have rubbed off on me then I
- 32:10would probably feel less confident but you know really
- 32:16internally you get the call and it sounds sounds exciting.
- 32:20And you do you do a lot of like, okay.
- 32:23I don't know, you know how, I don't know but you know it
- 32:27really. It was, it was my husband's.
- 32:29I will anybody ID in the country, don't have to replace a
- 32:33legend? Anybody they're coming in.
- 32:34We had to replace her. And so it's going to be hard for
- 32:39anybody coming in and so why not?
- 32:41You, you know why not you? And I think, you know, again,
- 32:45just just really the offending me.
- 32:47I have for this place, made it one where it's not a It's not
- 32:53really daunting because, you know, I know that I'm going to
- 32:58do my best and I know that she's supportive again.
- 33:04I've seen the formula and it's just something that somebody has
- 33:08to do it. And so I work, I work.
- 33:09Well under pressure that's that's how prefers I'm more of a
- 33:13six jump type of Jumper. Good one.
- 33:23For, for you, Rises a little more personal only because I've
- 33:26had the joy of actually standing next to you for four or five
- 33:30hours at a time. And, and look, right.
- 33:33I used to call rasa Silent Assassin, right?
- 33:36She would just all of a sudden, rise of standing there.
- 33:39I was like, never heard her coach show up, he coaches, our
- 33:42kids, and it seems like it's so my question for you is, have
- 33:48you, have you found that you kind of have to be A little more
- 33:53outside of yourself and a little more boisterous.
- 33:55Now that you are lead dog of the pack, so to speak.
- 33:59Yeah, it definitely it was something I'd say the last.
- 34:05Probably two years before taking this scenario, the Southern
- 34:08Illinois job that I realized, you know, if somebody had to
- 34:11work on because I do, I keep my head down and work, you know,
- 34:15and I kind of look upstairs. Okay, four by four, Okay.
- 34:21Especially again, I was a field coach.
- 34:23So you know, so we if I was gone I was probably going to the next
- 34:28coach's box. Oh yeah, I always laugh when
- 34:31people talk about what the food was it, the coaches Hospitality.
- 34:34I'm like, never eaten that. I love that.
- 34:37Bring my little turkey sandwich. And, you know, call it a day.
- 34:40First first, bus out last bus to leave always every time.
- 34:44You know, you know, I just, I mean there's some things there
- 34:48that I think. I knew, yes, I'd have to do in a
- 34:52lot of it, to be honest. It's just This is the
- 34:57development because everyone wants to know and I don't want
- 34:59it to seem like, it's a secret, or, or that I'm incompetent, or
- 35:02that I'm hiding anything. I just, I just like to keep my
- 35:05head down and work, but I think that people internally around
- 35:09me, no, you know, day in and day out.
- 35:12And so I'm kind of introverted extroverted or extrovert and
- 35:16introvert have that works. So this, I say a lot some days,
- 35:21and some days that hey, you know, we know that The task,
- 35:25let's get to work. So I am working on that trying
- 35:30to be, you know, trying to be more visible if you will, but
- 35:34I'm also trying to stay true to myself.
- 35:37And, you know, I think that if I spread myself in a way that
- 35:41probably too uncomfortable than it, make come off of, you know,
- 35:45not authentic. And so I'm very mindful is that
- 35:48of that as well. And that I try not to just hop
- 35:53in things to say, I'm I'm here. You know, just try to get in
- 35:57touch what I'm trying to do, they align with the goals, and
- 36:01they make sense, and then be strategic and those things.
- 36:04So it's something I'm proud, I'm definitely more aware of now
- 36:08that I'm in the sea before I would have said, absolutely not.
- 36:11Not doing interviews. You know.
- 36:23All right. Okay.
- 36:28But now, I think at some point you gotta you gotta stay true to
- 36:30who you are. We are very appreciative of the
- 36:33fact that you chose us to Grant immunity actually, the timing is
- 36:40what works out because this is this is actually my this is a
- 36:43good time for me, so right? I know most people might say
- 36:4710:30 but this day is my working hours.
- 36:52So I'm curious to know how you juxtaposition juxtaposed your,
- 37:00your career up until Southern Illinois.
- 37:04Being a servant being someone that's, you know, just killing
- 37:10it hours and hours and hours, you know?
- 37:12And to dedicating yourself and juxtaposing that with, okay,
- 37:17you're the boss now and not only are You The Boss, the boss at
- 37:21one of the Track and field programs in the country, right?
- 37:28One of the one of the most recognized programs in the
- 37:31country, so it's no longer a situation where, you know, you
- 37:36can hide behind the Great Wall of care.
- 37:39And Dennis, you're walking into that room as a representative of
- 37:44all the Ohio State. And, you know, I'm curious in to
- 37:49see, you know, it's been mean you were announced in July
- 37:52Correct, the LIE. Middle June?
- 37:59Yes. Oh so you've had a couple months
- 38:01now you're in the seat? Is there a moment you know, in
- 38:06the last couple months where's just kind of just hit you that
- 38:10this is real like I need to really understand.
- 38:15I need to respect where I'm at and you know and going forward.
- 38:21I mean how do you plan to you know?
- 38:25Use your voice because believe me, you now have a very, very
- 38:30powerful voice in our sport, you know.
- 38:33So tell us a little bit about that.
- 38:36Yeah, I, you know, I'm I'm for whether it's good or not, I
- 38:42definitely, I am working on delegating, you know, and that's
- 38:47what I've learned to do, and it had to do at southerly, you
- 38:52know, being in that seat, help me With some of the things that
- 38:56you can't do it all. And so really just being able to
- 38:59trust and delegate the things that maybe I was most
- 39:03comfortable doing and so that I can then step out into some
- 39:08other areas that it wasn't that I was not comfortable.
- 39:12That that was not my that was not my role.
- 39:14That was not the assignment. That was not what I was supposed
- 39:18to do and so I didn't but you know, I understand there's
- 39:22things now that you just have to do in this role.
- 39:26And so a lot of what I do is I'm probably a better listener than
- 39:31I am a talker. I like to write more than I like
- 39:35to just speak and you know that goes back to the authentic self
- 39:40is there's going to be some things that I have to create
- 39:44ways to be visible and be able Use my voice but that it
- 39:49showcases Who I Am the things that are important to me and how
- 39:53I delegate to either staff or the people around me.
- 39:57So that you know, really, it's not it's not my Program, you
- 40:02know, and I tell that to anybody asked me, I'd be alone but the
- 40:06current student athletes the staff.
- 40:08These are not our kids, a lot of them, you know, they're not, our
- 40:13kids is not my program. It's our program and so, you
- 40:17know, there's things that I realized I'm gonna get the last
- 40:20call. And, you know, the thing where
- 40:22leadership is everybody wants to take the credit, but you got to
- 40:27be ready to take the blame and I'm okay with that.
- 40:30You know, I'm okay with that because Of the people that I
- 40:34feel are around me, the people I've put in plan, making some
- 40:38strategic about those things. Behind the scenes, you know,
- 40:41behind the scenes. That's that's things that
- 40:44probably are not as visible. But if someone can ask me for,
- 40:47why are you doing this way? Or how come you haven't done it
- 40:50or when are you going to do this?
- 40:52You know, I can answer, I can answer that.
- 40:54Here's here's what the plan is, here's what we're trying to do,
- 40:57but I think ultimately, you just want to get to a point where
- 41:01you're not. Not, you know, you're out there
- 41:04and you're using your voice. But it's, it's for the benefit
- 41:07of the program for the student athletes that are their student
- 41:09athletes that are coming through because I am and the seated it
- 41:13is theirs. I've already it's really not
- 41:18another job in the country that is as good as this one for me.
- 41:22And so, what that means is the people that are my assistant,
- 41:28coaches, my head coaches, my goal is for them too.
- 41:31Become head coaches. The people that are student
- 41:34athletes here for to move them on.
- 41:36Like, so now my platform is not really bad.
- 41:41Better men of me was, how can I Elevate the people that come
- 41:44through here, and the nature of the story, you know, they're
- 41:46your best recruiters and that's tough.
- 41:48When you think about my, how can I keep everything in and Elevate
- 41:51myself and Elevate, you know, the Ohio State University.
- 41:55But you actually do a better job if you can send people out and
- 41:58showcase how you build and how you mold people.
- 42:03Again, that's not just student athlete.
- 42:04So, I don't know. I think the voice is good and I
- 42:10know I got to work on And I know, but again, it goes back to
- 42:15sometimes, it's like to put my head down and work and the
- 42:18results, you know, I'm waiting for her coaches to get paid
- 42:22coach's job for national champion.
- 42:25Bishop, sorry, Mouse. I'm waiting, you know, waiting
- 42:28for that to be the indicator of what we're doing here, okay?
- 42:33That's actually really well setting it, it led me to my
- 42:36other question that I hoped has not already been asked.
- 42:41So, For reasons that, you know, I always struggle to comprehend
- 42:50the Ascension of, you know, quality female coaches like
- 42:56yourselves in. This business is often difficult
- 43:00to see through. What do you believe, you know,
- 43:06we all can do to not just keep The Talented women in the
- 43:10profession but continue to Help everybody rise without people
- 43:16feeling like it's a threat to their situations.
- 43:20And ya know I if I had to answer that
- 43:34by the people that have hired me and they just supported me.
- 43:40And and I think and you usually hear this Do you hear this?
- 43:43With most women in the sport is? You don't know if you don't have
- 43:48to choose fan, Emily over the business.
- 43:52You don't know if, you know, working hard, it's going to be
- 43:54seen as a weakness. If you have a family, are you on
- 44:01the road or you know what qualities?
- 44:03Do you bring that are Beyond X's and O's?
- 44:06And and so I think I just had the benefit of having head
- 44:11coaches. That hired me.
- 44:12Me that saw that I was, I was working.
- 44:16So, it may have looked different than what they're used to.
- 44:19I'm not in the, you know, at when I went to Auburn it was,
- 44:24you know, it was five men coaches.
- 44:27So, me, the lunches were, you know, they did a good job of
- 44:32trying to include me, but they're just things that I just
- 44:35didn't wear one. That Dad order woman's gear.
- 44:38I mean, they're just things that they just hadn't had to think
- 44:40about, you know, we talked about And so, you know, there's
- 44:44there's just things that it, unless you're aware, that that's
- 44:48something that is uncomfortable for me as an assistant to even
- 44:53bring up because I think is gonna be a weakness, right?
- 44:56I'll just take the small shirt. I look crazy and pictures, it's
- 45:00fine. But, you know, but it takes
- 45:04someone to say, you know, hey, do you want a woman's?
- 45:09You know, is this something because then you feel empowered
- 45:11in your role and you feeling Portent.
- 45:13You feel like you're seeing and you feel like, then the other
- 45:16qualities that I know, I bring to the student-athletes the
- 45:19sport, have a platform to be heard, but if I gotta come and
- 45:23decide what I want to come, talk to you about a recruit for my
- 45:26clothing, then if I'm shut down, I either bring you nothing for
- 45:31hear me out. Or I bring you everything all at
- 45:34once and and we get a bad rap for that as women because we're
- 45:39holding it in. And so, you know, I just had an
- 45:41opportunity to have Head coaches.
- 45:44That were at least check on me. Wait, what do you need?
- 45:48Because then again get me. An outlet is actually my kids
- 45:53birthday. I need the day off.
- 45:55You know and and and it's little things like that that I just
- 46:00don't know if women feel like they can ask for things without
- 46:05seeming. Like it's it's it's a sign of
- 46:08weakness in the profession and and I just had coaches and it
- 46:12just didn't In a great job of that.
- 46:14You know, when I was pregnant with my first, child care would
- 46:18come in the office. Turn the lights off, tell me
- 46:20gone. And so I I mean you go home and
- 46:25and really I was only there because I didn't want her to
- 46:28think that I was pregnant. You know.
- 46:32You know that I couldn't I couldn't be at work.
- 46:35We actually work on the second state floor.
- 46:37All stares at me. I'm like that's a decision.
- 46:44No, but I was coming. I'm here and I'm coming up.
- 46:47Have you? I gotta break halfway up the
- 46:49stairs. But I'm I'm going to get there
- 46:52because I want you to know that this isn't going to history.
- 46:55Hinder my work and just to be able to have someone say it's
- 47:00okay. I don't think that about you
- 47:03gave me confidence really did continue in the sport so I just
- 47:06don't know if we have enough examples to see that to know how
- 47:12to maneuver it. It and things like that.
- 47:14I swear, I'm very open with the fact.
- 47:16I don't know if people know I have children, but I have to me,
- 47:20I but I got a lot of kids children and so, you know, it's
- 47:26like it. Huh?
- 47:29But, you know, I like to make that clear because I think that
- 47:33when you do look at the role and I think that goes back to the
- 47:35earlier question thinking that, well, you have to be a certain
- 47:39way and have a certain voice and, you know, you can just
- 47:41model certain things. Is that that gives people women
- 47:46in the sport and opportunity to grow and feel like hope.
- 47:49You know I I was told not in your one that I would probably
- 47:53have to make a decision. Do I want to coach the old
- 47:55saying no one coach or who don't want to be a mom?
- 47:58I mean you're one and so had I thought that that was the path
- 48:04for women in the sport. I probably would have got out.
- 48:09Yeah, I mean it's so So you know to have a-you know care, who is
- 48:15a mom. They like, we talked about, I
- 48:19didn't know that was a thing. You know, when I went to Auburn
- 48:22Ralph's pry, his daughter was on the team.
- 48:25So, you know, you know, just gave a different feel about what
- 48:29it meant to be in the profession, and still be a
- 48:32parent. And I just, I got to see that
- 48:35early on and I just don't know if it's mild a lot for women, or
- 48:40at least talked about from men, as well.
- 48:42So that they know. Okay, I get it.
- 48:45You know? I was like, I'm a dad.
- 48:47Yeah, there they have a mom but I'm a dad, I have
- 48:49responsibilities too and I'm still doing a good job.
- 48:53So I I wish I had the exact answer, but I can tell you that
- 48:57the people that I work for, you know, they did a good job in
- 49:00trying to make sure that working home were were a good balance
- 49:05because I think women, we we get guilty for feel guilty about
- 49:09having to choose one of the other and Profession is the one
- 49:14that goes. Well, that was actually going to
- 49:20be my question. So good job by somebody's gonna
- 49:25steal it. So I was going to let it be like
- 49:28the closer, you know, I wanted to hear and you any touched on
- 49:42it about being a director and Being a mom and being a female,
- 49:47you know, and that it's again you know, we use the word
- 49:50balance. That's not the right word we use
- 49:53were juggling. It's not the right word because
- 49:54we're not at any point. Just throwing balls in the air.
- 49:57We literally it all strategic and you highlighted that very
- 50:01well very well so thank you very much.
- 50:05Well it definitely, thank you for your time and as a problem,
- 50:09closing hours for you go enjoy at least 15 minutes to yourself.
- 50:15We wish you all the luck going forward heading into, you know,
- 50:18wrapping up cross going into indoor going into outdoor.
- 50:22We will all definitely see you sooner than later, for sure, for
- 50:24sure. But um, thank you again.
- 50:27Thank you for being you. Congratulations on the role and
- 50:30thank you, see you soon. Thank you now.
- 50:32I appreciate you having me. Thank you.
- 50:35Thank you very much. Bye, have a good night.
- 50:45That was good. That was good stuff.
- 50:47So, okay, I gotta say this because I think it's funny.
- 50:51I knew Ross had one kid. I didn't know she had three.
- 50:55And I coached in the conference, with her, for six years, five
- 50:59years. Wow.
- 51:01Well, I had no idea, she had no idea.
- 51:04She had three kids, so, that's awesome.
- 51:06Look, I'm basically said that though, right?
- 51:08Because she said, you know, not everybody knows I have kids and
- 51:11she's like, I got a lot of kids and I'm like, that's awesome.
- 51:14Yeah. Because look up obviously I'm
- 51:17not a mom. But I will say this from day one
- 51:21in the profession, I thought that that was one of those
- 51:23things that I was going to take on as a man and I was going to
- 51:28try to get as many other men as humanly possible to take on like
- 51:31that that thought is ridiculous. It's too because when I first
- 51:36came into the sport like I heard that said to us to a young
- 51:40female who was, you know, it just started coaching, you know,
- 51:44it's like you're going to have to choose between your career
- 51:46and having a family. I was like um, no, no, you
- 51:50don't. Now you can act look, it may
- 51:52look different for you, right? Like you may have to do some
- 51:55things that are a little For but that's that's the case.
- 51:58If you're black, that's the case.
- 52:00If you're left-handed like that's that you know, I mean
- 52:01like that's the case if you're Asian, you don't like you either
- 52:05have to do different things. I heard that said to a female
- 52:10who I did not know at the time at one of the conventions, I
- 52:13believe you Texas at the time. I just, you know, the dimensions
- 52:17everybody's kind of within an earshot of everything, right.
- 52:20And I heard that conversation I was like that is the most
- 52:23ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
- 52:25And when they broke that conversation I made it a point
- 52:28to just slide my way in and be like, hey, listen, that's a
- 52:31bunch of bullshit. Listen to that.
- 52:34I just, I don't understand why people throw that particular
- 52:39narrative at women as if like, every piece of that was wrong.
- 52:43Anyway. Well, you know, and that's just
- 52:45call a spade, a spade. The person is throwing that
- 52:47narrative is the person that's been feels inferior threatened
- 52:51by the feet. Mmm, it's easy or an easy call,
- 52:56and maybe, and maybe this is the same version of the word
- 52:59inferior that you're saying knows that.
- 53:04So let's say there are signal individual without family.
- 53:06Yet, I have to make this quote-unquote thread or like
- 53:10this pre-emptive pre-emptive phrase so that they don't go and
- 53:14do it. So I don't lose them.
- 53:16So I don't lose them to the whatever it might be.
- 53:20So the general struggle with different, right?
- 53:27Remember a couple years ago when the head women's basketball
- 53:30coach at Arizona was breastfeeding, Gets her daughter
- 53:34at halftime. Yeah, right.
- 53:36And it was a story. I was like, why is this story,
- 53:39right? But this is not a story, nor is
- 53:41it our business, right? Because like look, if you were a
- 53:45male coach, right? And you had a colostomy bag and
- 53:47you had to change it at halftime nobody supporting that.
- 53:51Yeah, right. It's what you have to do as part
- 53:54of your life but has nothing to do with your ability to, you
- 53:56know, call plays and run the triangle, right?
- 54:00So like I just thought that was insane.
- 54:03And I just look coaching is already.
- 54:10A profession that you have to do because you love it, even the
- 54:15crazy football coaches, that get paid all the money.
- 54:18You know what, you still have to do it because you love it
- 54:21because there's some point time it comes down to stuff that's
- 54:23just not monetary, yeah? Right.
- 54:26At some point to no matter who it is, it's some point time it
- 54:30comes down to stuff that's just not monetary.
- 54:32And so at the end of the day like like If somebody chooses
- 54:38The Honorable profession of being a coach be as supportive
- 54:42as humanly possible to them, when you're talking to them up,
- 54:46lift them support them. Because listen, that's just like
- 54:49somebody choosing it, say it tell you they want to go into
- 54:51the clergy. You understand that?
- 54:53That's like you got to give up things and this is going to be a
- 54:55life change. Well, you know what, it's, it's
- 54:58different but it's the same. When you decide to be a coach
- 55:00like you're giving up things and your family is going to be
- 55:04giving up things. Your significant other is going.
- 55:06Giving up things and your children are going to be giving
- 55:09up things in particular you, right?
- 55:13Like I said this to somebody one time because I was frustrated at
- 55:16you know, about something and I said, you know, I have spent
- 55:18more time. Raising other people's kids that
- 55:19I have my own. Hip.
- 55:23And that's a fact, right? That's not it.
- 55:27Listen, I could tell you this, right now, if you have a coach
- 55:32for 23 years, lucious is coach for much longer than that.
- 55:35If you, if you coach that long, you've raised several families.
- 55:39I was waiting for that reasons, right?
- 55:42You've raised generation much longer I wasn't How much is this
- 55:55guy posing? You've raised generation mean.
- 55:58I was giving up, you know, crops I wasn't, I wasn't calling you
- 56:01old. I'm just saying armies as some
- 56:09point at some point, the truth has to be told about the
- 56:13honorable profession of being a coach, is that you are like I
- 56:18told I told a mom and dad this one time.
- 56:23By the time this is when this is when they brought drop them off
- 56:26as a freshman and they came into my office and I said, listen,
- 56:29I'm gonna give you a fact. By the time that your son was a,
- 56:32he was a young man, but I'm your son graduation College.
- 56:35I'll probably know more about him than you do.
- 56:39Just because of where I'm at. Right.
- 56:42It's proximal, right? Not to mention that, you know,
- 56:45young men struggled to talk to their parents anyway but they'll
- 56:48tell their coach everything. Yeah.
- 56:50Right. Just be there sometimes I wish I
- 56:51wasn't sure. Cause I was like, I don't want
- 56:53to know that I'm supposedly. I gotta deal with it, right.
- 56:56I got, you know, I became a first responder one time because
- 57:02young lady came off as in like, had to tell me stuff.
- 57:04And I was like, alright, so now I gotta call the cops and I got
- 57:08to do this and I could do that, right?
- 57:10But at the end of the Like, when you choose to be a coach, like,
- 57:14you know, all that going in like you're going to be a
- 57:17psychiatrist. Yeah, I'm going to be a
- 57:19philosopher. You're going to be a, you know,
- 57:23you're going to be a low-key physio, right?
- 57:28Thank you. Like you you're gonna be like 50
- 57:31different things to most of your student athletes and you.
- 57:35Nobody's going to give you credit for any of it.
- 57:38Just going to ask you how fast they run.
- 57:39How far to the jump. Do you know what coach?
- 57:45Give me a hug. Give her a hug because they're
- 57:47doing it. They're doing God's work?
- 57:50Yeah, well good. No, go ahead, go ahead.
- 57:56No, I was about to say, I mean, my last thing I'm Rosalyn is
- 57:59that her story? Is the typical young black woman
- 58:10trying to find a way in a sport gets thrown into the ocean at
- 58:14Auburn, right? And in all seriousness, that
- 58:20could have determined her career.
- 58:23That was that moment where she's in new surroundings, took a left
- 58:27turn and at the Atlanta airport, right?
- 58:32Ends up in Auburn. And it turns out That she had
- 58:35the right mentors and she had the right people around her to
- 58:40keep her going, you know? And that pretty much determined
- 58:45her Ascent of the ladder, and then to have people sit her down
- 58:50and tell her hey you have got to go.
- 58:53That that is lacking in our sport in my opinion, you know?
- 58:58Because you know and I'm sure sir Lucius can speak to this
- 59:02because how many young men and young women has.
- 59:05He had to sit down and say hey it's time to spread your wings
- 59:09young, man. It's time to spread your wings,
- 59:11young lady. Sorry.
- 59:13I'm just telling you you do you probably you probably don't want
- 59:16to hear this right now but it's time to go you know,
- 59:21conversation it is Really. So yeah.
- 59:25I mean that, that was, you know, I enjoyed hearing that story and
- 59:29it needs to be told more and more, especially for the younger
- 59:33coaches out there because at some point you got to get
- 59:37comfortable with being uncomfortable.
- 59:39You have to. Yeah, I mean, can you imagine no
- 59:41one what we know? Can you imagine your first job
- 59:43out of college is in the SEC? Think about it.
- 59:48Think right? That's a blessing and a curse
- 59:49for sure with with just, a man just means more, right.
- 59:53Clyde Do you say all right, what you got for us
- 1:00:20to well, you know, in the last however long this time exert a
- 1:00:24Time duration was we talked about the development of a new
- 1:00:26coach. Ouch, let's change the lane a
- 1:00:29moment there and talk about, you know, how important in the
- 1:00:33development of an athlete, how important is the trust Factor?
- 1:00:38Who I don't know that there is anything bigger.
- 1:00:42Yeah, you know, and it's a two-sided coin, you know, the
- 1:00:49athlete trust in the coast to coast to us in the athlete.
- 1:00:53And I think that that's something that, you know, we
- 1:00:55have T-shirts, that should say trust the process, right?
- 1:00:59And you know, I don't, I don't know without the the trust
- 1:01:03Factor how you ever become great at anything but especially When
- 1:01:07you talk about Athletics, if you got an athlete, this coming to
- 1:01:10practice every day that trust you, or if you're a coach goes
- 1:01:14activity, not trust the athlete. You are going to fail and fail
- 1:01:17miserably Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:01:20What's funny as I feel like sometimes trust is hardest for
- 1:01:29this generation because of this thing, right?
- 1:01:37They they have grown up being able to in their opinion, always
- 1:01:43have every single answer right here, right.
- 1:01:46If you got a question right? You don't have to go on a
- 1:01:49journey or quest to find out the answer, right?
- 1:01:53And and learn all the Things you learn from that Journey.
- 1:01:55You also know, don't have to trust someone's words and follow
- 1:01:59blindly, because that's what I had when I went to college, what
- 1:02:02they have is hey Siri how do I get fast?
- 1:02:07Right? And, and Syria will give an
- 1:02:09answer. Yeah, it's wrong.
- 1:02:12But it'll give one right and so I I couldn't agree more.
- 1:02:17That I think trust is insanely important may be nothing more
- 1:02:21important at all, but I think the The generation were dealing
- 1:02:25with now has the hardest time with it.
- 1:02:28Yes was saying I think the bigger problem is not so much
- 1:02:31the phone it's not so much I shouldn't say type of phone.
- 1:02:35It's not so much a Serie its social media.
- 1:02:38Yes, right. Yeah.
- 1:02:39You know so you look on you know, you're doing repeat
- 1:02:42whatever today and they're doing repeat whatever sedae, why
- 1:02:46aren't we doing that? And my response is like, so
- 1:02:50maybe you should ask them. Why are they doing what we're
- 1:02:53doing? Right.
- 1:02:55But because they're doing something that's perceived to be
- 1:02:58easier. You know, are perceived to be
- 1:03:00more fun and then you have the person your backs like I want to
- 1:03:03do what they're doing. And so social media is the
- 1:03:06absolute. It's and you know it's the band
- 1:03:11of alteration and you know, comparison is the thief of Joy.
- 1:03:18I keep telling them that but Governor did you do it, huh?
- 1:03:27Did you do it? Did I do what ask Siri?
- 1:03:32How do I get fast? I like you know whether its
- 1:03:51internal change, external change, environmental change.
- 1:03:55But trust becomes very fragile as well.
- 1:03:58You know, and then it's not because it's broken, it's just
- 1:04:02different. And that makes it all kinds of
- 1:04:04different and it's like its capital T, lowercase R,
- 1:04:09lowercase U capital S and lowercase T and it's a
- 1:04:12completely different thing rather than sticking with a
- 1:04:15composite. When they're when these people
- 1:04:17are picking up their phone and they're talking to Siri or two
- 1:04:19looking at social media, go back and look at the great
- 1:04:23relationship with the people that had the best careers.
- 1:04:28And the longevity in the sport. You had think, you know, Le
- 1:04:31Mariano likes to talk about the 1.5 coaches that the average
- 1:04:36Olympic gold medal is high. There's a trust Factor there.
- 1:04:41But instead of, you know, doing history and figuring out how to
- 1:04:44be great, they just do current to find out how to have fun
- 1:04:48here. And that's, and that's the
- 1:04:50issue. So you gotta try like know that
- 1:04:52that has got to be established in the recruiting process.
- 1:04:55That's the irony of it to me, right?
- 1:04:57And I think we all agree that trust both ways athletes coach
- 1:05:01Coast. Athlete is probably the most
- 1:05:03crucial piece, But the irony of the social media piece is we
- 1:05:08live in this world today, where information is so easily, access
- 1:05:12so easily shared you have a window into what other people
- 1:05:16are doing, right? A couple of years ago, I had an
- 1:05:21athlete of mine. Ask a question.
- 1:05:26Why the the question that loses recursive?
- 1:05:29Why aren't we doing X when program X is doing X?
- 1:05:36And I'm like, I literally sounds, like you got all this
- 1:05:39time to be on your phone to find out what their programs doing,
- 1:05:41but you didn't take the time to Google my resume versus there.
- 1:05:48Why are we having this conversation?
- 1:05:51And so, it's, they choose the information that they want,
- 1:05:54right? And they only choose it in
- 1:05:57theory, to create the answer that they think they want to
- 1:06:00hear. And it can, it can, it can
- 1:06:04become a very burdensome task when the trust issue, isn't
- 1:06:08there? I got a team like 85% freshman
- 1:06:11right now and what me and my staff are doing every day.
- 1:06:16Is trying to find creative ways to build that Rapport, because
- 1:06:20someone all of them, we felt were successful high school
- 1:06:23athletes. Hence, why they're on our
- 1:06:24campus, right? Well, some of them are coached
- 1:06:27by their fathers, some by their mothers.
- 1:06:29Some of them had Club coaches that they grew up with some of
- 1:06:33them never been cosas de and they like that's a whole
- 1:06:35different level of trust problem.
- 1:06:36Like, I'm just something, no one ever pays me any attention,
- 1:06:39right? And so it's all this personality
- 1:06:41management that you have to go through every day just to get to
- 1:06:44a place where they believe you. When you say something, And it's
- 1:06:48difficult, but you better be good at it because without that,
- 1:06:52you're not going to follow you. Haven't come close to your goal.
- 1:06:56Mmm-hmm, I feel like you guys have been in my head all day
- 1:07:00today. Super awesome.
- 1:07:07Well, good and kind of growing off of that notion.
- 1:07:09You know, knowing that not what the current state of mental
- 1:07:13health, is with our student athletes.
- 1:07:15But kind of again, the fragile Miss of it, within our programs
- 1:07:22with the student-athletes, you know, what are some jet. 28 or
- 1:07:27develop healthy training environments again in
- 1:07:30maintaining I got a singing. I got a simple one for you.
- 1:07:39One acknowledgement. And to just create space to
- 1:07:49remind them that you're acknowledging.
- 1:07:51For example, right now, the bulk of our team are practice starts
- 1:07:55at 2:00. Well.
- 1:07:59Back when I was training with John Smith, we used to always
- 1:08:03make us run four laps as a warm-up, right stride, the
- 1:08:06straightaways walking terms, however long it took it took and
- 1:08:10his attitude was, y'all could do whatever you want.
- 1:08:12You can say whatever you want, you talk about whatever you
- 1:08:14want. But when these four laps are
- 1:08:15done, I need you to lock in, right?
- 1:08:18So in the spirit of that, it all went to sleep and I look
- 1:08:21practice starts at two, they need to be here at 2:00 but for
- 1:08:2315 minutes, leave him alone and I told him like y'all can do
- 1:08:27whatever you want. You 15 minutes, you can lay
- 1:08:29down. You can run, you can run
- 1:08:30Tick-Tock and do whatever you want.
- 1:08:32I'll be in the chick top, right? Whatever it is.
- 1:08:35But when that 15 minutes is over, I need you to lock in and
- 1:08:38honestly I thought it was something super simple.
- 1:08:42It was almost a throwaway idea for me and then we have the
- 1:08:46Mountain West Mental Health Summit.
- 1:08:49And like four or five of my kids.
- 1:08:50Shouted, us out for that. I was like oh like y'all really
- 1:08:55like that. Like okay cool.
- 1:08:57Like that's though it and it was just trying me, trying to find a
- 1:09:00way to acknowledge how they are and what they need, right?
- 1:09:06I'm over there, making sure the workouts are right for the 15
- 1:09:09minutes or whatever, but it's a little thing, but apparently
- 1:09:13it's big for them. So just acknowledge it and find
- 1:09:16ways to to point it out and remind Didn't you care about it?
- 1:09:22Yeah, I, you know, I think look, we're all old enough to have
- 1:09:27competed in the, in the era, where your coach didn't care
- 1:09:31about your feelings at all. Hello.
- 1:09:35Like I literally had a coach say to me feo feelin's.
- 1:09:41That ain't what we're here for. And I was like got it you will
- 1:09:46never ever hear me talk about how I feel again.
- 1:09:51And you know, look, I'm very proud of my career but I would
- 1:09:54be the first person to say this the vast majority of my career
- 1:09:59was based off of anger and proving people wrong and my
- 1:10:06career was over and I started having kids.
- 1:10:08I realized that is really not healthy.
- 1:10:12Like I can't coach that way. I can't coach.
- 1:10:16I like, I never really had to worry about thinking
- 1:10:19autobiographically because I just didn't like Coaching
- 1:10:22someone? It's not that I was coach poorly
- 1:10:24but let's be clear. I love my coaches.
- 1:10:26They did a great job with me, but we got to go all the way
- 1:10:29back to when I first started being an athlete, right?
- 1:10:32Like I was home that way from the beginning, like you don't
- 1:10:35talk about your feelings and toughness is the thing.
- 1:10:38You walk through the gate with, right?
- 1:10:41Not mental toughness toughness, right?
- 1:10:44If the bone is not exposed through the skin, we compete,
- 1:10:49you know, that kind of stuff. and, and you realize, like, It
- 1:10:58breeds angry athletes and there's you know, anger is a
- 1:11:02fuel. No question about it, look.
- 1:11:03I'm like I said, I did it but man, you can make some really
- 1:11:09unhealthy people that way. you know, and so you realize like
- 1:11:15all right, as a as an old dog, like there's some new tricks
- 1:11:20that are like cool to learn, you know, like, Like letting go of
- 1:11:29certain things that, that like make too much to you in the
- 1:11:32coaching world, right? Never throw the baby out with
- 1:11:35the bathwater but just understanding that a little give
- 1:11:38and take is probably the best way, right?
- 1:11:42And and here's a, here's a tidbit, I'll throw out there for
- 1:11:46all of you younger coaches. Every year you should coach your
- 1:11:51athletes a little less and get to know them a little more.
- 1:11:58The the trust rope should get pulled in their Direction a
- 1:12:02little bit more every year. You always got to coach him.
- 1:12:08But their opinions and their verbage back to you you should
- 1:12:12have deaf ears in year one. But by year for you by here a
- 1:12:15time or two, you might hear a suggestion or two, you still
- 1:12:20probably not going to but at least you hear them and
- 1:12:22acknowledge it. But you're not supposed to coach
- 1:12:25seniors the same way you coach freshman.
- 1:12:28It's not a dictatorship. Hmm.
- 1:12:31Okay, so I need clarification on that one but because the I'm
- 1:12:39good because the problem you have is when you start allowing
- 1:12:44the senior And the Freshman seed with the seniors doing the
- 1:12:50Freshman is therefore going to want the same thing and maybe I
- 1:12:54do need to clarify that I only mean in conversation and
- 1:12:58particularly one-on-one conversation with athlete at
- 1:13:01coach. I completely understand what our
- 1:13:03attention and that conversation better happened in your office
- 1:13:06know for sure, for sure and and I intended for that to be that
- 1:13:10way. So thank you for giving me the
- 1:13:11chance to cut the clarify. Definitely outside of like look
- 1:13:14I always joke like Mom That can argue but not front of the kids.
- 1:13:19You know, like you when you're outside like you got to tell
- 1:13:22them what to do and they all got to do what you tell me for sure.
- 1:13:26For sure. Well so I said, I had that
- 1:13:30conversation today. Actually, the one that you're
- 1:13:32talking about with the freshman and I said, you know, you're
- 1:13:35going to hear me say less to those who have return or
- 1:13:38returned, more times than others and those who are on their way
- 1:13:41out. I said, because we're fixing
- 1:13:44less or managing more so you may not like my voice as much and so
- 1:13:50sorry for your life, but it's happened.
- 1:13:52You you guys must have different kids because I know I'm
- 1:13:55teaching. Stuff every day.
- 1:13:58You know, I note, I've met. Maybe it's just me.
- 1:14:01Maybe I'm just a little bit OCD or so, I don't know, but I mean,
- 1:14:05more, awesome, teacher. Yeah, same thing.
- 1:14:08Like I give feedback same way every year, is, if they've never
- 1:14:12heard of before their lives, well, I think part of that to be
- 1:14:17honest is there's a huge sameness with you.
- 1:14:21You've been in the same place for 20-something years.
- 1:14:26Right? So like the old he just called
- 1:14:28me. Oh, not at all.
- 1:14:33I didn't even call you old. I'm just saying there is a
- 1:14:37there. There is something to be said
- 1:14:40for that, right? And I'm it look, it's not better
- 1:14:43or worse, it's just different. Well, i-i'll chime in here.
- 1:14:49And what my aim is that, you know, and I think this is what
- 1:14:56Out of what Le Mariano was trying to get at is that you
- 1:15:02have been pushing a philosophy, you've been pushing methodology,
- 1:15:09how you're going about things, what we're doing from September
- 1:15:14through December? What we're doing?
- 1:15:15From January through June and there's a rhythm, right?
- 1:15:20And there's a, there's a, you know, way of doing things based
- 1:15:24on where you're at. And for me I want like so right
- 1:15:30now, I have four to five athletes in my training group
- 1:15:36that know exactly what I'm going to do on Monday, Tuesday,
- 1:15:41Wednesday, Thursday Friday, okay?
- 1:15:44If for whatever reason I'm not there or if I'm going to be late
- 1:15:50or anything like that, I don't have to worry about it.
- 1:15:54But the amount of time that I've had to spend 23 years building
- 1:16:00that into them and getting them to understand that you are
- 1:16:03taking responsibility for this, right?
- 1:16:07This is your, this is your career, right?
- 1:16:11And at some point, I would hope that you are grasping what it
- 1:16:16is, we're doing and you have some understanding.
- 1:16:20So by the time the program is sent out and whatever you
- 1:16:24Already gone through it, you know, exactly what we're doing.
- 1:16:27Almost to the point where you're new, you're knowing, how you're
- 1:16:30going to feel uncertain days and all of that.
- 1:16:33So, I push it constantly where I cannot be in a thousand places
- 1:16:39at one time. Okay.
- 1:16:41So, I have to have that Core group of kids that have been in
- 1:16:46it. They understand it, and they can
- 1:16:49actually be an extension of me right now.
- 1:16:52Yeah, I mean, I totally agree with that.
- 1:16:53That's the point. That's a but that doesn't change
- 1:16:56the words that come out of my mouth though.
- 1:16:58Yeah, you know I think that it's important that they hear it from
- 1:17:03me but you know, like I start off every year as if they have
- 1:17:07no clue what I'm talking and I preached The Narrative every
- 1:17:11year because I'm not sure there's ever anything wrong with
- 1:17:14a subtle, reminder of what's going on.
- 1:17:18Yeah. And so at all.
- 1:17:19So what it does is because now when I'm teaching now, At that
- 1:17:25prompts the senior to teach, right?
- 1:17:29Because now he or she can say, hey, this is what he's trying to
- 1:17:33explain to you. It's a reminder to them and then
- 1:17:36they can go ivy, have seen it happen where to walk them back
- 1:17:39and they're like the make an arm gesture to stuff like that, you
- 1:17:42know? So I'm not disagreeing with you
- 1:17:43guys saying, I'm just saying, I'm just, you know, I'm a little
- 1:17:47over the top with it, I guess, you know, and I think that
- 1:17:50that's good. I think we're getting to it.
- 1:17:54That's what I said, you're winning.
- 1:17:58So that means we need to do that more.
- 1:17:59No, that's not what I'm just kidding.
- 1:18:02I'm just kidding when it comes to mental health piece of this.
- 1:18:11I think that acknowledgement is key.
- 1:18:14You know, listening is key and it goes back to the trust thing,
- 1:18:18building a trust and and then the know that you have their
- 1:18:22back you know, somebody's having a bad Today you know don't just
- 1:18:25say suck it up and get through it.
- 1:18:27Like we were told you know like you know it's not uncommon if
- 1:18:32somebody's having a bad day hey go in there hang up the
- 1:18:34trainer's you know go let you know Matt in the way you know
- 1:18:38what's going on and you know maybe you just get a mental
- 1:18:40health day every now You know, but but like, you know, like
- 1:18:44it's real, you know, it is, and I think that, you know, you have
- 1:18:49to be cognizant of it. You have to be, they'll just
- 1:18:52have to be aware of the signals and they're different from every
- 1:18:55athlete. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:18:57So to build and kind of bring it all together to is my word.
- 1:19:03For all of that is exchange creating exchange and letting it
- 1:19:07be visible with the other athletes as well.
- 1:19:09So they have a feeling of safety.
- 1:19:11Be vulnerable for a moment, you know and making it appropriate
- 1:19:16at the right time to like someone has a little Outburst.
- 1:19:20You have a silent conversation with them but they see an
- 1:19:22exchange, The Outsider, see an exchange and then we visit it
- 1:19:26when it's a more appropriate time, you know.
- 1:19:28Or you know, there's a freshman who is having a mental health
- 1:19:33day because they're younger and they're transitioning and
- 1:19:35whatnot, and the senior seems like there's a vulnerable neural
- 1:19:40ability to it. I can Still be vulnerable and my
- 1:19:43coach is going to listen to what I'm saying.
- 1:19:45And maybe put me in my spot or put me in the spot that I'm
- 1:19:49supposed to be in here. Yeah I think that you know it
- 1:19:53depends on the conversation. Now the conversations about you
- 1:19:56know a mental health issue or a physical health issue.
- 1:19:59I'm listening all day. Yeah, we're not having
- 1:20:01conversations with anybody about what we should be doing.
- 1:20:04Training wise, exactly know. You can be a 12 year senior.
- 1:20:09Thanks to covid and it's not happening.
- 1:20:12Don't do this. Don't do that.
- 1:20:32Has as predicted by the EP at the beginning of mmm.
- 1:20:38Yeah. And you know what, here's what
- 1:20:41I'll say. I have no truck with medical
- 1:20:45Richards. right, like like he had Like he tore his knee like
- 1:20:53three ligaments in one of the things and the other thing like
- 1:20:57he had sort of like a cardiac deal, right?
- 1:21:00Like if you still want to go back and do college sports and
- 1:21:03his eye, was he not about the profession for you anymore,
- 1:21:06right? You know what you look good on
- 1:21:08you. Right hand.
- 1:21:10My man, my man is on his second. He's on his second, master's
- 1:21:13degree. I need.
- 1:21:16So he's also been, you know, given the system, which is good
- 1:21:18for him. But yeah, I mean I don't I'm not
- 1:21:23even a college coach and I can't wait the covid till the covid.
- 1:21:29Calendar is cleared itself. Yeah, we're getting.
- 1:21:32We're getting close. We're getting close.
- 1:21:34Believe me, I've counting taking down the days years.
- 1:21:39Am I, am I correct sats are do. Next fall.
- 1:21:46Bye. Sats are back.
- 1:21:48Next. Fall is not what I have in
- 1:21:50California as a teaser one. Now, it's not across the board.
- 1:21:54Okay. Stir to Chanel.
- 1:21:55Yeah. And as for the record, I never
- 1:21:57went away here, so really, that's wild.
- 1:22:02Wow. Okay.
- 1:22:04We have we have lost a couple of big-time recruit because they
- 1:22:08had to take the SAT or act and school exit.
- 1:22:12Hey, why would you do that when you Just come on over here.
- 1:22:18I know the junior college ranks in general, they lament that
- 1:22:22decision tremendously because it's a great number of kids that
- 1:22:26that would have just flat-out been to the movies.
- 1:22:29They had to take the SAT and they don't.
- 1:22:32Yep. Yeah.
- 1:22:36Alright so as we naturally segwayed into some chaos, let's
- 1:22:42just go ahead first and Cannonball that boy in college
- 1:22:46football. Chaos man, I want to go fast
- 1:22:53before Clyde gets to it. I said that you was gonna come
- 1:23:00out of the West and I still that they can.
- 1:23:05But they stumbled up, they stumbled up in Utah because
- 1:23:11people don't understand. If you don't live in the west
- 1:23:15playing, football at BYU and a night game or playing football,
- 1:23:19the University of Utah as a night game is one of the hardest
- 1:23:23things to do in this country. Hmm.
- 1:23:28Yeah, go for it, Clyde. Hey, it's my, it's my favorite.
- 1:23:37It's my favorite time of the year for college football.
- 1:23:40Right? Right about.
- 1:23:41Now as you approach Halloween, and the powers that be show
- 1:23:47their hand and set the table, the way it needs to be set.
- 1:23:51First of all, once again, you're not running the table in the
- 1:23:56Pac-12, Utah's, add Good football team.
- 1:23:59Yeah mean in there at that place altitude and all this other
- 1:24:03stuff. Hi, I'm surprised.
- 1:24:07The game was as close as it was a great game.
- 1:24:09The only game better than that. This weekend was the Tennessee
- 1:24:13Alabama game. This was phenomenal, right?
- 1:24:17Oh, yeah, the T Snowden of the TCU game was just as good.
- 1:24:21He has funded 100%, sir, hundred percent I hear you.
- 1:24:26It doesn't digit. Double-digit.
- 1:24:27Come back and wins in double overtime, like it just means
- 1:24:30more glad I'm glad you figure. Out.
- 1:24:37But in let me be clear with what I'm saying.
- 1:24:42So, when I say set the table, Some teams have played seven
- 1:24:47games, some teams played six, the official rankings aren't out
- 1:24:52yet, but the table has been set because Alabama, lost that game.
- 1:24:58And they only failed a number six, and they're not really
- 1:25:02number six. There number 5, because don't
- 1:25:04get it twisted. I miss you get in Ohio.
- 1:25:06State are going to play each other eventually, someone's
- 1:25:09gonna win and the loser is going to fall out of the top five.
- 1:25:13But when Georgia plays tennis See and someone loses their not
- 1:25:18going to fall out of the top. Five and Alabama will just
- 1:25:23continue because they're in the East.
- 1:25:25If they continue to win, they're going to be in Atlanta for the
- 1:25:28championship game. The loser of the Tennessee
- 1:25:30Georgia game will be one loss, but not in the championship
- 1:25:34game. Yeah, and they have set the
- 1:25:37table for three out of the four, SEC, Ray, who is this, who is
- 1:25:43this? The table setting up.
- 1:25:47Okay. So okay, so maybe the powers
- 1:25:50that be the winning field goal from Tennessee, that happened
- 1:25:54that what happened to this nonsense?
- 1:26:00I never said that. So he has change every time
- 1:26:23somebody gets beat so therefore they're based wait till they
- 1:26:26don't kill with it. Yeah, you are.
- 1:27:20I may be about how they get there the fraudulent but then
- 1:27:24okay. So we're going to say they get
- 1:27:26their fraud. Hold on a second.
- 1:27:28Now if this is it the process is fraudulent how they get there
- 1:27:32then why how come very few times anybody beats them when they do
- 1:27:36if they don't belong hmm, I'll wait for that until you until
- 1:27:41Chi graduates College. But that's fine.
- 1:27:47And you did not answer my question.
- 1:28:15Above the chaos, not about the idiocy in your opinion clinic,
- 1:28:22police. Tell me the teams that still
- 1:28:24have a legitimate chance of being in the fourth.
- 1:28:27Sure, Jim DeMint chance. Can, I am not being sarcastic.
- 1:28:32How do you define legit? This is your definition, like in
- 1:28:36your mind, who do you think still has a chance to be in the
- 1:28:39for because obviously all the teams don't.
- 1:28:42Sure. So TCU would have to be
- 1:28:45undefeated, but that won't necessarily be enough.
- 1:28:48Because, as you see, the table has been set.
- 1:28:51So the winner of the Michigan, Ohio, State game has a chance,
- 1:28:58the Georgia, Tennessee. And Alabama.
- 1:29:02All have a chance and probably will be in in theory, Ole.
- 1:29:06Miss has a chance to take a beat Alabama.
- 1:29:08We all know, that's probably not happen.
- 1:29:11So On any one of those top for the SEC TCU, if they can run the
- 1:29:16table in a whole bunch of help UCLA's undefeated, they have no
- 1:29:20shot, unless they ran the table. Much, like, TC USC's going to be
- 1:29:25locked out Oklahoma. State's going to be locked out,
- 1:29:27organs going to be locked out. You're forgetting team for sure.
- 1:29:31I'm hold on. Oh no, that's currently
- 1:29:36undefeated right now getting the Clemson Tigers who were
- 1:29:39currently on Clemson's. Clemson is sitting there, like
- 1:29:43that's why I was trying to get to Clemson is the buffer, right?
- 1:29:48Clemson. Because they've had excellent
- 1:29:50teams in the past. They're one of the, they're one
- 1:29:52of the sexy teams. So they represent the floor
- 1:29:56between, that's why they put Alabama right behind it, because
- 1:29:59it would be offensive to put them ahead of Clemson right now.
- 1:30:02If Clemson was UCLA, Oh no problem.
- 1:30:07You got no problem leaving Alabama with their one loss at
- 1:30:1060 above those people, right? But it's all reputation-based
- 1:30:14Clemson sitting there, Clemson runs the table in the ACC, which
- 1:30:18is totally plausible. Plausible, they've done it many
- 1:30:20times, the the who's going to get the other spot is very, very
- 1:30:25interesting right now. Yeah.
- 1:30:27I mean, I find it very interesting because the like TCU
- 1:30:32is the is the litmus test for collides.
- 1:30:34Chaos Theory, right? If you look at Is remaining on
- 1:30:37their schedules. First of all, TCU has played and
- 1:30:40beaten three ranked teams already they still have on their
- 1:30:44schedule, Kansas State, they still have on their schedule.
- 1:30:47Texas. Who was currently number 20,
- 1:30:50right? And they say, I'm just saying
- 1:30:51this, it's just somewhat what's going on today and they still
- 1:30:55have on their schedule, Texas Tech, right?
- 1:30:58So they still got three quality games and obviously, they have
- 1:31:01to win them all because I look at one last.
- 1:31:03Big 12 team is literally never get again.
- 1:31:06Is your name the Oklahoma? It's just never going to happen
- 1:31:08unless it's Oklahoma, right, at least, it's never gonna happen.
- 1:31:11So so but the thing is, if TCU runs the table That would be
- 1:31:18really interesting to see because they're currently behind
- 1:31:20Alabama. Yeah.
- 1:31:22Right. So if album wins arrest their
- 1:31:23games, There's not a world where TCU passes them.
- 1:31:29No. None.
- 1:31:30Right. Like Michigan.
- 1:31:31A call Michigan to Clemson. Both won this week and they felt
- 1:31:34so so. So the very first, that's right
- 1:31:37rankings. Come out now.
- 1:31:41I think. I'm next, I'm next week.
- 1:31:42I think. Okay.
- 1:31:44So we're commenting on. Something has even exist yet.
- 1:31:56Is it called idiocy when you're coming about something that
- 1:31:58doesn't exist so certain way. Yes, it is.
- 1:32:01As we have a lot of great football games with a lot of
- 1:32:04great plays in college football. Last week, we had some blunders
- 1:32:09and all we've talked about is usual is the complete conspiracy
- 1:32:14theory. It's not conspiracy theory, sir,
- 1:32:16you asked Any consistent basis can tell
- 1:32:36you exactly what's about to come out of your mouth.
- 1:32:38We did it. With the wrister, you will have
- 1:32:57any idea then what's it look? Like they are they have been in
- 1:33:00the past but by what measured. Okay.
- 1:33:03Okay, bye. Lot of measure everything.
- 1:33:06I just didn't score is going to be the floor and yes, Thief.
- 1:33:10We will see these Wings going to every position every time
- 1:33:14guaranteed. And and then two of them will
- 1:33:16get in the playoff and one of them will win the whole thing.
- 1:33:18So then we're fine right now. They have set the table for 3 to
- 1:33:21get 3 that lesson for that to happen to listen for that.
- 1:33:26We went to this Nakayama Alabama Alabama, Tennessee.
- 1:33:32Stop it. Okay, hold on a second.
- 1:33:43They are not all games. But we went through this last
- 1:33:47you. When you wanted to talk to you
- 1:33:48with me, I told you. I would've asked what you were
- 1:33:50going to be and they were and so I don't know last year there
- 1:33:54wasn't Is it doesn't matter, okay?
- 1:33:57There are three viable teams in the SEC.
- 1:34:00There's two of them. Okay, hold on a second, two of
- 1:34:03them. Make it to the playoffs.
- 1:34:04Okay? It will not be 3sec.
- 1:34:08We will see, we will see, there's no guarantee we will
- 1:34:12see. When the rankings come out in
- 1:34:16the committee hotel room right now, they have two, pegs, this a
- 1:34:19sec. One sec.
- 1:34:21To, I have names on them yet. As have to.
- 1:34:24That is that that as that is now three years in a row, you lose
- 1:34:27that long. So that's what I said.
- 1:34:29I know. I know you gonna say stuff
- 1:34:30though. Hey, but I just said we will we
- 1:34:32will she'll wait. By definition, that would mean
- 1:34:45they were two or ten. George.
- 1:34:49I course they were belongings one loss and the other Georgia
- 1:34:52or Tennessee will also have one long.
- 1:34:55Don't let Tennessee, beat Georgia and Georgia sitting
- 1:34:58there by themselves and don't have to play in the title game
- 1:35:01of one lost. Oh, that is your all three get
- 1:35:04in scenario right there. I was going to say that's the
- 1:35:06scenario. That's absolutely the scenario
- 1:35:09you smiling because you're not. I'm smiling.
- 1:35:12No. He's No, not happening.
- 1:35:15I won't happen. I just find it.
- 1:35:17Funny that the top 10. Listen, I'm not gonna say it's
- 1:35:20predictable and predictable. But his predictable, like the
- 1:35:23top ten currently includes what? I'm not even looking at it.
- 1:35:27It's for SEC schools. Yep, for a bit too.
- 1:35:32Big 10 schools, right? Yep.
- 1:35:35To pack 12 schools, but there towards the but, yeah, nice.
- 1:35:40Yeah. Yeah, it does it towards the
- 1:35:41bottom of the tent. So that's 8.
- 1:35:44One ACC School. Yep.
- 1:35:46That's Clemson. And one big 12 school.
- 1:35:48Absolutely. Right.
- 1:35:50That's the scenario Playbook every year is the same Playbook.
- 1:35:54Okay. Hold on a second.
- 1:35:55So then let me be the idiot on the screen who's out of in there
- 1:36:00that belongs. It sounds like that's not it.
- 1:36:04I do not say nothing about, no horse.
- 1:36:06I would just like one time. Somebody answered my question.
- 1:36:10I'm glad it's a mess. No no no.
- 1:36:12You don't ask no questions. So, did you say it's not about
- 1:36:15that? All right, well, true, you guys
- 1:36:17in your. Did you not answer my question?
- 1:36:19Do you answer this question? No, I'm not sure what you're
- 1:36:23asking me. You don't want me to answer the
- 1:36:24question. No, no, no, I'm sorry.
- 1:36:27Okay. Well, what was Tennessee?
- 1:36:31What was Tennessee ranked before this weekend?
- 1:36:35I want to say. Thanks fix.
- 1:36:37Okay, yeah, so three played six and 6 1, right?
- 1:36:40So they just flip flops spots, right?
- 1:36:44Am I correct? Yes, Bama went to six and
- 1:36:46Tennessee, went to three. Yep.
- 1:36:48Right. So that actually makes sense to
- 1:36:51me, but what doesn't make sense to me is Clemson started the
- 1:36:54week for Michigan started week 5.
- 1:36:57They both won and they got flip-flopped albany's.
- 1:37:01And let's see. That's, that's an irrelevant
- 1:37:02argue because they don't want to rest easy school.
- 1:37:05No, no. But this was the argument.
- 1:37:06I was making earlier is just that it is very, very, It's very
- 1:37:12unevenly handed the moves that happen from week to week are
- 1:37:18definitely here. It's just very unevenly you know
- 1:37:20where you are 100. And then the million dollar
- 1:37:24question is if there's choose. What wait what was that even
- 1:37:27about? Certainly USC dropped all the
- 1:37:30way. Oh, I'm talking to you because
- 1:37:34USC lost to Utah was right number 20, who lost to Florida,
- 1:37:41whose unranked know, I got all that.
- 1:37:43That's what was done by USC. I was asked to talk about
- 1:37:45talking to Laura. No, they weren't Florida was not
- 1:37:53ranked. When they when they lost to
- 1:37:54Utah, you're both wrong. You're both wrong.
- 1:37:58Oh, no, I'm telling you. No, no, because when he said
- 1:38:01they were you smiled and shook it, they were not ranked, so
- 1:38:05Utah lost to an unranked. Florida team, that then got
- 1:38:08ranking has proven to never have should have been raised, right?
- 1:38:12So you SC then loses to a Utah team who was lost to a team that
- 1:38:17has won one sec game. Sure, I get that.
- 1:38:21What did the Pac-12? Is such a wanted conference
- 1:38:25because they beat up on each other talking.
- 1:38:27No. So this also be what's up?
- 1:38:29So hold a second self. Okay.
- 1:38:52USC lost to the 20th, ranked team in the country on their
- 1:38:55home field who has a horrible whatever y'all track record,
- 1:39:01they lost it a team, that's not ranked, there's not very good.
- 1:39:06That's interesting because the narrative forever is that the
- 1:39:11SEC is so overwhelmingly difficult because everybody's
- 1:39:15good in the conference and even if you're a third fourth, fifth
- 1:39:18place team like that. Team is better than you once
- 1:39:22even any other conference. So clearly and it caught on and
- 1:39:26clearly they are because a team of the SEC.
- 1:39:30There's not very good beat a team that you guys said was the
- 1:39:34best team in the in the Pac-12. So you just proved my point.
- 1:39:37So we're maybe you don't holler at me when Gainesville loads up
- 1:39:41through the private planes and flies to you as for as he's an
- 1:39:44okay. That's good, that's good.
- 1:39:47That's going to happen next year.
- 1:39:48So now you know, It doesn't hold on a second it doesn't matter
- 1:39:55how it goes, what absolutely does.
- 1:39:57No, no, we actually you're right, you're absolutely right.
- 1:39:59It doesn't, because when they lose the game, Utah won't get
- 1:40:02credit for it. I'll go to Second and get any
- 1:40:05credit for it at all. Shit, you shouldn't get credit
- 1:40:07for losing to a team. That's not very good.
- 1:40:11Beating are beating a team that's not very good.
- 1:40:14Sure, is Utah. Good football?
- 1:40:16Team sir. Clearly, they might be they they
- 1:40:19beat the team that you got some of the best in the Pac-12.
- 1:40:22So much they must be there for somebody on these tiles.
- 1:40:28That I didn't say is that the Utah team lost to a
- 1:40:49team. That's not very good in the SEC
- 1:40:53there. One in 3D sec.
- 1:40:57So, none of that in Michigan in Clemson, flip-flops that that
- 1:41:01was my initial Point. Okay, I'm good with you, but I
- 1:41:06don't, but I don't understand, I don't understand why they
- 1:41:08flip-flopping, okay. Other than other than Michigan,
- 1:41:12beat up on supposedly a pretty good Penn State team right and
- 1:41:18Clemson struggled a little bit with four distinct to be Florida
- 1:41:21State. Yes, sir, I have an answer.
- 1:41:24I have the answer. For you.
- 1:41:27I'm only talking to you because this is going to believe I'm
- 1:41:32trolling him. And I'm not, why did they
- 1:41:34flip-flop? Because you have to set the
- 1:41:36table as well as you can to do the table.
- 1:41:39I'll State Michigan Showdown. It's a better situation.
- 1:41:43If when that game arrives. Okay, hold on a second.
- 1:41:46Okay, look Common Sense. Michigan beat up on a Penn State
- 1:41:52team that was ranked in the top 10 at the time.
- 1:41:55They Destroyed them. Clemson went into Florida State
- 1:41:59and struggled. That's why it happened.
- 1:42:03Has nothing to do with all this conspiracy theory.
- 1:42:05It's not conspiracy. It.
- 1:42:07Oh, it definitely is. Definitely okay.
- 1:42:26Inclusion. I not so much so maybe we fly
- 1:42:28them a little bit. You know it is wait.
- 1:42:32Wait, is it is a good at matter? It's come out because because
- 1:42:35because didn't didn't Alabama, drop the number one.
- 1:42:38The number 3 because they struggle a couple weeks ago.
- 1:42:42Yeah. I think they did it to annoy who
- 1:42:44Georgia they told us like forget the anointing See.
- 1:42:49See this is why I don't talk to you because you were able
- 1:42:52answering questions. All right, that's enough.
- 1:43:18Right, seriously Theory, it's not about right.
- 1:43:22This is three seti 3sec. Tyler's want to make the
- 1:43:25playoff. I didn't think they're going to
- 1:43:28make the playoff. I said that the table has been
- 1:43:31set for it to happen and that table would not be set for any
- 1:43:36other people for that. Purpose is a system as
- 1:43:40consistent as white privilege. This table gets set everyone.
- 1:43:44That's our fault. That's all White Privilege work.
- 1:43:53Okay, on that one. For out-of-pocket, everything.
- 1:44:20Perfect, Sports analysis. All right, to Wrangle is in, no,
- 1:44:26wrangled them in the governor. I hope the Tamiflu doesn't Cloud
- 1:44:31your judgment on this budget. The other segments.
- 1:44:35So I know right where we want them, would you rather?
- 1:44:42Would you rather eat Jimmy John's or Firehouse Subs
- 1:44:46Firehouse when house? Firehouse would, you rather beat
- 1:44:56Texas state in football or beat Texas state in the 4 by 1?
- 1:45:03For my one. Surprise equality.
- 1:45:06Yes, would you rather sleep on an air mattress or a sofa bed?
- 1:45:12Sofa bed? I have never had a good
- 1:45:18experience with an air mattress in my entire life.
- 1:45:22Those things are the worst inventions known to man.
- 1:45:26Like you have to get it, you have to pay the price for the
- 1:45:30good one guy. Get the Costco joint.
- 1:45:32Chief ones are terrible. You are wonderful for little
- 1:45:35Kids. Yes, they are.
- 1:45:38You're not wonderful for big, bone black people.
- 1:45:43Not sorry with Halloween coming up.
- 1:45:49Would you rather eat Smarties or nerds?
- 1:45:53Did you see Smarties what do you know about Smarties?
- 1:45:58Google. Would you rather go to a
- 1:46:15convention or not go to a convention?
- 1:46:19That is look, that's the best question to has ever had.
- 1:46:30I would rather family time. Got it.
- 1:46:35You're on the LLC. Now you belong at convention.
- 1:46:37There you go. You know, you can always take
- 1:46:41your family to conventions. This is true.
- 1:46:44This is true. Would you rather be a football
- 1:46:48compliance person or a football equipment manager, man,
- 1:46:52equipment manager all day. Is it any better?
- 1:46:57That's why I said it. I'm like, I mean the amount of
- 1:47:00gear that falls through the cracks in a football league.
- 1:47:05Oh yeah, absolutely. It is Criminal.
- 1:47:13That is crazy. Gentlemen, floor is yours.
- 1:47:17Okay, I'm gonna This is a, this is a coaching, would you rather
- 1:47:23hmm. Would you rather spend 48 Hours,
- 1:47:29discussing the jumps with Randy Huntington?
- 1:47:35Or pedroso. Randy Huntington.
- 1:47:40I love that man's mind. And that is actually on my
- 1:47:46bucket list to sit down have a cup of coffee with that, man,
- 1:47:50because he is, I don't think he's first of all.
- 1:47:54I don't think he'll ever get the credit for what he's done in
- 1:47:57China, on the fact. That true.
- 1:48:00I mean, let's call it what it is.
- 1:48:03I mean that that is nothing but miraculous what he's been able
- 1:48:06to do with it. Very much either.
- 1:48:10So yeah. Kudos to that, man.
- 1:48:14Can we get Randy on? I feel like we still make that
- 1:48:17hundred percent. Yeah, he's been going on to
- 1:48:20pakka so just saying, yeah, it was on packet tonight.
- 1:48:27Blah. And then he was my home were
- 1:48:29like two weeks ago or something like that, whatever, whatever.
- 1:48:36Yeah, whatever. We could definitely, we could
- 1:48:39definitely get ready on the show and that would be fun.
- 1:48:42That would be fun. At least for me it career I
- 1:48:47would need so I would need some time.
- 1:49:09I think we're going to enforce it.
- 1:49:39All the time. Yes.
- 1:49:40Because because on more than one occasion he is told you who he
- 1:49:44was. I definitely do.
- 1:49:47I definitely do. Okay.
- 1:49:50So that would leave you mine is I guess relatively simple.
- 1:50:05Would you rather go to To game seven of the World Series, the
- 1:50:11Super Bowl game, seven of the NBA championship NBA
- 1:50:16championship. No matter where it is.
- 1:50:20Yes. What?
- 1:50:21If it's in Utah to the NBA Championship possible games
- 1:50:25game? Seven sure it's possible.
- 1:50:27Hell yeah. Okay, just making sure.
- 1:50:31But I know I have been around in long enough to understand like,
- 1:50:40First of all, game 7 and 10 in the World Series has a really,
- 1:50:46really good chance of being very cold.
- 1:50:49Okay? Very good chance.
- 1:50:52There is the opportunity. It has, you know, mean football
- 1:50:56could be in a dome but I know for a fact that being in that
- 1:51:00crowd is not the same as being in a regular season where you
- 1:51:05have an equal amount of fans. I mean it's different But NBA
- 1:51:12Finals game seven. Oh man.
- 1:51:17I'm with you and we're going to go home be in Utah or whatever
- 1:51:20it is. You can Firehouse Subs brother,
- 1:51:22doesn't And I'll man or so.
- 1:51:52I want to kind of be nice to you guys before I like well, thank
- 1:51:56you, appreciate it. So who's going to win in a see?
- 1:52:05He said, I want to be nice to you, and he asked the question,
- 1:52:08after all a man's team took took a punching in the face, from the
- 1:52:18we've seen enough evidence. Right now, he see this right
- 1:52:21here, I notice I believe the Eagles will win, the NFC East.
- 1:52:34So he's a rational, man. Wow, do you know what?
- 1:52:38I heard all day week? Don't say the Cowboys all week.
- 1:52:43Well, of course, I'm awake sir, I live in Texas, they the
- 1:52:46Cowboys are winning. The Cowboys are 11 times Super
- 1:52:50Bowl champions in a row because they going to win it every year.
- 1:52:53Yeah, Dakota is returning. They're going to run the table
- 1:52:57as all I heard all week. So I wanted some clarity from an
- 1:53:01actual now for I said, Get in a room today with three.
- 1:53:08Very rabbit Cowboy fans and they all three said they just hope
- 1:53:14they can make the playoffs. Yes, that is.
- 1:53:18That is yes, it is funny because, you know, I said it a
- 1:53:26youth baseball tournament this weekend listening to Cowboys
- 1:53:30fans, run off at the gums, right?
- 1:53:32Right before the game started, because we always watch the
- 1:53:34games while we're watching the baseball games.
- 1:53:36And I said, well, Well, this is going to be interesting because
- 1:53:38when the days over the Cowboys are going to be in third and
- 1:53:43they just looked at me and I was like, oh yeah, I don't think
- 1:53:45that can happen. Okay.
- 1:53:46Watch. So then when we when the Giants
- 1:53:49beat the Ravens, I heard crickets and I was like, oh, c.
- 1:53:52So now the reality is come to you.
- 1:53:54If you don't need the Eagles, you're going to be in third.
- 1:53:58Hey listen, I know it's a diversion because we're almost
- 1:54:01done right? Brian Day balls coach of the
- 1:54:04year right now. 100% light. If you ever need an example of
- 1:54:09how much coaching matters in the NFL, the New York football,
- 1:54:13Giants, 22, the rest of the NFL, you know, what's funny?
- 1:54:18You know what, the Giants offense looks like right now,
- 1:54:21solutions, to remember this, when Percy Harvin was at
- 1:54:25Florida, right? And it was, was it Harvard and
- 1:54:29Tebow? Right?
- 1:54:32So, like it had, they had this this like pinwheel and it had
- 1:54:36the Gators offense, right? And every single one of the
- 1:54:38little slices was like, it was like Percy Harvin, left, Percy
- 1:54:42Harvin, right Tebow left, Tebow ring like that.
- 1:54:46That's the Giants. Like look, we have one
- 1:54:49legitimate. Now I want you to about
- 1:54:51disrespecting, my Florida Gators, there was a lot of Team,
- 1:54:54a lot of weapons on that team. Oh, I agree.
- 1:54:56I'm just telling you, like, I remember the pinwheel think,
- 1:54:58hey, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 1:55:01I mean it's have we have one weapon, right?
- 1:55:05And and and say Quan has played wide receiver, running back and
- 1:55:09quarterback this year. Wow.
- 1:55:13Very creative. I mean we have one weapon and
- 1:55:16Daniel Jones. That's what we give is that same
- 1:55:19Gator team that's like the infamous criminal team to that
- 1:55:22the same roster. Here you go again.
- 1:55:25Yeah, I'm sorry. That's just
- 1:55:43So I've got to I've got a hypothetical, this has to be
- 1:55:46hypothetical someone. And this this is how like you
- 1:55:50know you know that folks are reaching like reaching really
- 1:55:56badly. Someone has now put out a mock
- 1:56:00Spurs schedule for Texas in the SEC.
- 1:56:05Right? So, the season starts with Ohio
- 1:56:10State on August 30th, then San Jose State, then Tech, Arkansas,
- 1:56:19Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, Mississippi State at Auburn.
- 1:56:24Alabama, at home LSU, Kentucky am, what do you think that
- 1:56:30record would be? It'll be losing one for sure.
- 1:56:35Wait, I was sort of listening is a Red River.
- 1:56:39Shootout, still going to be on their schedule.
- 1:56:41Yes. Well, it's schedule for the
- 1:56:44middle of the season. So think about that, right?
- 1:56:47If they plan SEC slate and play Ohio State in the first game,
- 1:56:50they got to have the hardest strength of schedule of anybody.
- 1:56:52The country without a doubt. Well, I don't see how that's a
- 1:56:55mock SEC schedule because they missed the three games against
- 1:56:59the cupcakes. There's only two now.
- 1:57:02There's only two will see. So so so since you want to keep
- 1:57:05throwing shots at the SEC, Yeah, they're not good.
- 1:57:31I think, I think I have no idea. I just started.
- 1:57:38So I think the non-conference games actually set in stone
- 1:57:41right now at Ohio State, San Jose, State Texas, Texas Tech,
- 1:57:46and Oklahoma, right? Because that's now a Squatch but
- 1:57:49that's before SEC play has non conference.
- 1:57:58Are those like that college football will be much better?
- 1:58:01Yeah, I like it. Yeah, so true.
- 1:58:06Yes, let's wrap up the night with the make our hearts warm
- 1:58:11again and not so cold, and give some people some love.
- 1:58:17I love it. Can I go first?
- 1:58:20Because mine is super simple. Yes, go for it.
- 1:58:23But my heart be props this week actually go out to Sir Lucius
- 1:58:28because if you follow the Florida, Gators social media, he
- 1:58:33spent a good. He not Lucius himself.
- 1:58:36I know he don't run the media team but the Gators have spent
- 1:58:40the last week. It's not even subtle flecks and
- 1:58:43just Flex. Hmm, and I think sing, and I'm
- 1:58:46here for all of the flexing you have earned it young man, wallow
- 1:58:52in it of the photos, you know? This it is, it is Elite Petty,
- 1:59:00and I am here for it. So making sure that stuff gets
- 1:59:04done because it is awesome. I'll say this kind, this is when
- 1:59:08the first set of pictures came out, honestly, this is how I
- 1:59:11felt my work here is done. Oh no.
- 1:59:15This taken me. Two decades.
- 1:59:18It's like sweet. He will tell you.
- 1:59:21It is taken me two decades for this dude to finally admit He's
- 1:59:28The Godfather and he's great and that people actually should
- 1:59:33genuflect and kiss the ring. So where I'm just going to pile
- 1:59:36on and we're just going to keep it at this but you forgot about
- 1:59:42the video guys know I have. Oh you forgot you forgot, you
- 1:59:50know, George Clinton, you forgot?
- 1:59:54Yeah, this this Subtle flow right.
- 1:59:58God. God did it playing in the
- 2:00:28background or something? Just tell me.
- 2:00:30Oh, it's a good idea? Yeah, thank you, yeah.
- 2:00:36I mean, I followed you here, all I can hear in the background is
- 2:00:39DJ, Khaled like and another one, and another one, and another
- 2:00:45one. Those shout shout out to the
- 2:00:48University of Florida media Department because I mean they
- 2:00:51are they they're not winning. They have one, they have one.
- 2:00:54Yes. All the other media departments
- 2:00:57are just throwing in the towel like listed.
- 2:00:59We just, you know what? He's going to retire at some
- 2:01:01point will be good, then as much as I would love to just leave it
- 2:01:07there, I do. I do have to, I do have to give
- 2:01:10a harpy prop to somebody who was very near and dear to a couple
- 2:01:16people on this show because this young man, is a young coach who
- 2:01:24was doing all the things the right way and Is a product of
- 2:01:31his own words will say it. He is a product of coaches
- 2:01:33collab and he is a product and an avid viewer and note-taker of
- 2:01:39athletes of Athletics LLC and he very, very recently called me
- 2:01:47incredibly Giddy and he's taking a new job.
- 2:01:52He was talking about the coaching Carousel and he's like,
- 2:01:54now I feel bad because I'm adding to it, he's taking a new
- 2:01:59job as Oh shit, head coach in another program and that is
- 2:02:03absolutely awesome. So I want to send my shout-out
- 2:02:07to one. Mr. Hill, question, is it a
- 2:02:10secret who this person is? And whether I was literally, I
- 2:02:14don't know, I can't, I don't know if I can say with her
- 2:02:15going, but I am going to say his name.
- 2:02:17His name is lame. Name is Lane.
- 2:02:21What do you know that he's resigned yet?
- 2:02:25I know that when I talked to him, he said he was going to and
- 2:02:27I said, I won't say the place, but I'm going to say your name.
- 2:02:29He said okay. I'm going to say his name is
- 2:02:34Lane Fletcher and he's amazing young man, and like I said, he
- 2:02:40is literally a product of coaches collab, and I think that
- 2:02:43is tremendously awesome. Blaine, you can use this as your
- 2:02:47letter of resignation. If you have it already, right?
- 2:02:51You haven't already you have now buddy.
- 2:02:54Yeah, so I want to give my heart be props to won Miss Parker Val
- 2:02:59be Parker. Where did something that was
- 2:03:05pretty phenomenal. She ran 1858 on a course that
- 2:03:11certified to be, you know, 6K which is a phenomenal run
- 2:03:17Parker, no struggled off and all the injuries here.
- 2:03:21I'm also going to give a shout out to a coach crystalline ski
