- 0:18Speaker 1: Big Time Adulting or big Time Adulting, I guess depends
- 0:21Speaker 1: on how you want to say it. Ad ultig Big

- 0:28Speaker 1: point seven million followers on Instagram, and today I want
- 0:31Speaker 1: to share with you and then listen to Kylie rant
- 0:34Speaker 1: about what might be the funniest thing that I funniest Kylie,
- 0:38Speaker 1: is it funny or is it just real?
- 0:40Speaker 2: Well? I think it depends on which side of the
- 0:43Speaker 2: fence you're on, because somehow I get the feeling you
- 0:45Speaker 2: think it's hilarious.
- 0:46Speaker 1: And I'm getting a sense from your tone that you don't.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Welcome to the Happy Families podcast, Real Parenting Solutions every
- 0:53Speaker 1: day on Australia's most downloaded parenting podcast. We are justin
- 0:56Speaker 1: and Kylie Colson, I'm not going to talk anymore, just
- 0:59Speaker 1: going to play this The right thing from Kitelin Mari
- 1:01Speaker 1: at Big Time adult Ting that landed on Instagram a
- 1:05Speaker 1: little over a week two weeks ago.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Hey it is Did you do your best to eat
- 1:10Speaker 3: kale and cut out alcohol during the decade of January
- 1:12Speaker 3: and notice absolutely zero difference? Well that's because it just
- 1:16Speaker 3: doesn't work that way anymore.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:17Speaker 3: You can't just eat healthier and expect to lose weight
- 1:20Speaker 3: these days, say with the times idiot is not calories
- 1:23Speaker 3: and calories out anymore.
- 1:24Speaker 4: Okay, we have a new system for you. Now. By
- 1:26Speaker 4: the way, you're still going to need to remain in
- 1:27Speaker 4: a chloric deficit in order to lose weight. Okay, pay attention.
- 1:31Speaker 4: It's very straightforward. Also, your husband is still going to
- 1:34Speaker 4: crush it.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Using the old system, so this doesn't apply to him,
- 1:37Speaker 3: only to you, Okay, So just don't share this with him.
- 1:39Speaker 4: It's not You're going to need supplements. Wage supplements you ask,
- 1:42Speaker 4: every single one of them.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Creating magnesium, vitamin D, vitamin B, foll eight lions, main
- 1:49Speaker 3: evening primrose, collagen peptides, chicken soup, motoroil.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Hormone which hormones you ask? Nobody knows. Okay, we can't
- 1:57Speaker 4: measure it.
- 1:57Speaker 3: Your hormones are on spring break for the next two years,
- 2:00Speaker 3: going buck wild.
- 2:01Speaker 4: It's a very easy formula.
- 2:02Speaker 3: Okay, just take all of these supplements in the right
- 2:04Speaker 3: combinations and amounts to maximize your results.
- 2:07Speaker 4: It's either that or perfect lighting. We haven't quite narrowed
- 2:10Speaker 4: down yet. We're also going to need to lit up
- 2:12Speaker 4: on protein. Ask someone on the internet how much protein
- 2:14Speaker 4: in a day would kill you, and then subtract ten grams.
- 2:17Speaker 4: That's going to be your number right there.
- 2:18Speaker 3: This is going to seem like a lot, but if
- 2:20Speaker 3: you don't eat it, whatever microscopic amount of muscle you
- 2:22Speaker 3: have left on your body is going to disappear and
- 2:24Speaker 3: you're going to break your hip.
- 2:25Speaker 4: It's science. So get to the gym.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Okay, find the person with the most amount of muscles
- 2:30Speaker 3: there and start a competition with them.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Muscle burns fat, and you don't have any muscles at
- 2:35Speaker 4: your steps.
- 2:36Speaker 3: You have plenty of time to do all this between
- 2:38Speaker 3: your kids, your job, your dog, your husband. Okay, there
- 2:40Speaker 3: are probably like five to seven women out there doing
- 2:44Speaker 3: this that we know of every day.
- 2:45Speaker 4: I hate the rains women can do it all. You
- 2:47Speaker 4: say you can't.
- 2:48Speaker 3: It just proves how lazy you are as saying you
- 2:50Speaker 3: need to get nine hours of sleep every night or
- 2:52Speaker 3: none of this is going to work and lower your stress.
- 2:54Speaker 4: Your cortisol levels are going to kill you. I'm a
- 2:57Speaker 4: cottage cheese to learn more.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Kalie, I'm just cracking up when I listen to that
- 3:02Speaker 1: and you're sitting there with your eyes closed like you've
- 3:04Speaker 1: got a headache. She's so dead pan, she's so funny.
- 3:06Speaker 1: I just want to quote her funny lines back for
- 3:08Speaker 1: the next ten minutes on the podcast.
- 3:10Speaker 2: I just want to cry the whole idea that your
- 3:14Speaker 2: husband will crush it using the old system. But it
- 3:17Speaker 2: doesn't matter. We have been on this health fixed for
- 3:20Speaker 2: the last three months. You have lost seven kilos? What
- 3:24Speaker 2: have I lost?
- 3:25Speaker 1: It depends on a day.
- 3:26Speaker 2: I go to bed and I may wake up and
- 3:28Speaker 2: have put on a kilo and a half. And what
- 3:31Speaker 2: a time I wake up.
- 3:31Speaker 1: We've almost I did nothing but sleep, We've almost stopped snacking.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Don't drink alcohol, eating kale.
- 3:39Speaker 1: You are plant based except for the oreos. Are oreos
- 3:44Speaker 1: plant based.
- 3:44Speaker 2: I had a moment of weakness today, but for three months.
- 3:47Speaker 3: I have not.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Five to seven women. Can I just de.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Decade of January? It feels like I have been doing
- 3:56Speaker 2: this forever. It feels like I've been doing this for
- 4:00Speaker 2: Apra and there is no light at the end of
- 4:03Speaker 2: the tunnel.
- 4:04Speaker 1: So I listened to that, and I love the delivery.
- 4:07Speaker 1: I love what she says. It's so funny. Well, women
- 4:10Speaker 1: can do it all, and if you can't do it all,
- 4:12Speaker 1: you're just being lazy.
- 4:15Speaker 2: At nine hours of sleep.
- 4:16Speaker 1: As much as it made me laugh.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Lower your stress like it's a choice.
- 4:20Speaker 1: They're going, it's so hard, and it's so unfair.
- 4:24Speaker 2: It's not calories in or calories out anymore. You've got
- 4:27Speaker 2: to stay in a chloric.
- 4:29Speaker 1: I love the line about going to the gym, find
- 4:31Speaker 1: out how much protein per day is going to kill you,
- 4:33Speaker 1: and then take off ten grams eat that start a
- 4:35Speaker 1: competition with the fittest, muscliest, strongest person in the gym.
- 4:39Speaker 1: The motor oil got me and I was when I
- 4:42Speaker 1: saw the motor oil, I was thinking, I'm surprised that
- 4:45Speaker 1: she didn't mention that if you're not taking dinosaur cartilage
- 4:48Speaker 1: mixed with unicorn tears, are you even trying gluten free
- 4:51Speaker 1: unicorn tears as well, because I'm sure that they are
- 4:54Speaker 1: very very helpful for your tiredness.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Have you even cut gluten out?
- 4:58Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, A couple of serious things here, the modern
- 5:01Speaker 1: wellness industrial complex is causing overwhelm, and I think that's
- 5:05Speaker 1: really what she's getting at. I don't know if this
- 5:07Speaker 1: has happened in your feet or not, but as we've
- 5:10Speaker 1: gone on our health kick, I've sent you more than
- 5:12Speaker 1: a few reels about things that we could be doing
- 5:14Speaker 1: to be ultra healthy and ultra on it and ultra
- 5:18Speaker 1: doing the stuff that we're supposed to be doing. And
- 5:20Speaker 1: I don't know how well we're doing with that, but
- 5:21Speaker 1: we're doing better than we've done years. Like we're really trying,
- 5:25Speaker 1: but you just can't do it all. And social media
- 5:29Speaker 1: is trying to make us healthier, but it's making us
- 5:32Speaker 1: more and more tense and more and more worried about
- 5:35Speaker 1: the stuff that we're doing to our bodies.
- 5:37Speaker 2: The idea that you have to just take all of
- 5:40Speaker 2: these supplements and she lists them all off, and obviously
- 5:42Speaker 2: motor oil is in there, and so as line was made.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Yeah, but not dinosaur cartilage and unicorns is I've thought
- 5:48Speaker 1: I was being so creative when I came up with
- 5:50Speaker 1: that gluten free.
- 5:51Speaker 2: But it's so true, Like everywhere you turn, someone's telling
- 5:55Speaker 2: you that you need another supplement because it's going to
- 5:58Speaker 2: make you healthy and strong.
- 5:59Speaker 1: How many of those those multi level marketing things have
- 6:01Speaker 1: you signed up for because that's the thing that's going
- 6:03Speaker 1: to help you to lose those kilos or get your
- 6:06Speaker 1: arteries cleaned out, or make your mental health sore or whatever.
- 6:10Speaker 1: It is, like somebody's always got this answer, and yet
- 6:14Speaker 1: it just feels like it's more pressure, more cost, more stress,
- 6:17Speaker 1: and it isn't working. After the break because I'm not
- 6:20Speaker 1: living this hell that perry menopausal women are. I've got
- 6:24Speaker 1: a couple of very sensible suggestions that I think might help.
- 6:28Speaker 1: You can tell me whether they're good suggestions or not.
- 6:30Speaker 1: I'm feeling a little bit nervous.
- 6:32Speaker 2: I'll get the.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Okay, we've just listened to Big Time Adulting or big
- 6:43Speaker 1: Time Adulting because sometimes people say it differently. Caitlin Murray.
- 6:46Speaker 1: You can find her on all of the social media
- 6:48Speaker 1: is if you need more of that in your life.
- 6:50Speaker 1: You know what, she is really really great. I've laughed
- 6:52Speaker 1: so much watching her content. Here's my number one tip.
- 6:57Speaker 1: The best health plan is the one that you can
- 7:00Speaker 1: maintain long term.
- 7:02Speaker 2: So eating kale all day every day is not going
- 7:04Speaker 2: to work.
- 7:04Speaker 1: I don't know, can you eat kale every day? Long term?
- 7:07Speaker 1: Is it working for you? You like the taste of kale?
- 7:09Speaker 1: The text is a bit it's kind of dry. It
- 7:11Speaker 1: needs something on it, I reckon. I like the way
- 7:13Speaker 1: that we're doing it in the oven with the oil
- 7:16Speaker 1: and the salt. Probably not the healthiest way to consume kale,
- 7:18Speaker 1: but it tastes really good. The best health plan is
- 7:22Speaker 1: the one that you can maintain long term.
- 7:24Speaker 2: So along with that, I'm actually going to say, you've
- 7:28Speaker 2: got to drown out all the voices because everyone's got
- 7:32Speaker 2: a solution, and you've got to go with the one
- 7:35Speaker 2: that feels right for you.
- 7:37Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, there's a great irony in what I'm about
- 7:39Speaker 1: to say, But I genuinely believe that as much as
- 7:43Speaker 1: I got this from social media, and as much as
- 7:47Speaker 1: we all consume it one way or another, I think
- 7:50Speaker 1: that the best health plan also involves getting social media
- 7:52Speaker 1: out of our lives. I just it keeps us up
- 7:55Speaker 1: late at night. It stresses our brains. It keeps our
- 7:58Speaker 1: brains fully active and fully stimulated all the time. We
- 8:01Speaker 1: don't get the downtime for that thing in our brain
- 8:04Speaker 1: called the default mode network to activate. That's the thing
- 8:07Speaker 1: that does stuff when our brains don't have to be on,
- 8:10Speaker 1: but social media just keeps our brains on all the time.
- 8:14Speaker 1: I reckon, if we can stop snacking on social media,
- 8:17Speaker 1: stop snacking on those empty calories, and stop drinking our calories,
- 8:21Speaker 1: and if we can just move our body each day
- 8:23Speaker 1: a little bit like the I think something like seventy
- 8:25Speaker 1: five percent of Australian adults don't even move twenty minutes
- 8:29Speaker 1: per day. That is so far below anything that's loosely
- 8:34Speaker 1: healthy for us. If we can just do those three
- 8:36Speaker 1: things and get some decent sleep, I reckon that's probably
- 8:40Speaker 1: going to be sufficient. But again, the best health plans
- 8:45Speaker 1: the one that you can maintain long term. Here's my
- 8:47Speaker 1: second idea, Kylie, make healthy choices a family activity, not
- 8:52Speaker 1: a solo burden.
- 8:54Speaker 2: So this can be a little bit tricky, and we've
- 8:57Speaker 2: experienced it with our kids over the years as we've
- 9:00Speaker 2: tried to improve our eating plan or our fitness levels.
- 9:05Speaker 2: That if it's not the norm, there's a lot of pushback.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Kids aren't excited about getting up early to go for
- 9:12Speaker 2: a morning run or going for a morning swim or whatever,
- 9:15Speaker 2: and they're definitely not interested when they've got a plateful
- 9:19Speaker 2: of kale. So While your advice is definitely it's just
- 9:26Speaker 2: great enough spot on, it does present some challenges. But
- 9:31Speaker 2: as we've gone through that process, I think the biggest
- 9:33Speaker 2: thing for us is just we try new things in
- 9:35Speaker 2: our house. And so we've put a couple of cookbooks
- 9:39Speaker 2: which I've really really enjoyed, and what we've done with
- 9:44Speaker 2: it is I've just said, we're going to try each
- 9:47Speaker 2: recipe in this book once. If we love it, it
- 9:50Speaker 2: will go into rotation. But if we don't, we never
- 9:53Speaker 2: have to have this again. Let's just give it one go.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm thinking extending on what Eitlin said and your
- 10:01Speaker 1: response to her Instagram real and I'm thinking about what
- 10:06Speaker 1: you're saying about taking on the responsibility of trying some
- 10:09Speaker 1: new foods or trying some new activities and making it
- 10:12Speaker 1: family oriented. It's still extra stuff. It still requires effort.
- 10:16Speaker 1: The thing is, I just think in life, there's stuff
- 10:19Speaker 1: that is bought and there's stuff that is earned. Okay,
- 10:23Speaker 1: let me use a really blunt example. Let's talk about
- 10:26Speaker 1: a zepic, this weight loss drug. You give yourself an
- 10:28Speaker 1: injection every day you lose weight. You don't earn it,
- 10:31Speaker 1: you buy it. And I don't think that you value it,
- 10:34Speaker 1: or prize it or honor it nearly as much, not
- 10:37Speaker 1: to the people around you. Whereas if you do the
- 10:39Speaker 1: stuff where you earn it, you just feel better about
- 10:41Speaker 1: yourself and you start to increase your power. And it's
- 10:44Speaker 1: the difference between purchasing progress versus earning progress, takeaway food
- 10:51Speaker 1: versus home cooked food. That kind of thing. Right.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Whenever we make a decision, though, there's a tradeoff, and
- 10:58Speaker 2: the trade off is money or time. Literally, you either
- 11:02Speaker 2: buy something or you have to invest the time. So
- 11:04Speaker 2: you're investing money or you're investing time. Sometimes you're investing posts.
- 11:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Yeah, But when it.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Comes down to it, like you said, takeaway meal money
- 11:14Speaker 2: or making a home cooked meal is our time. If
- 11:17Speaker 2: we want to be healthy, we can either pay for
- 11:20Speaker 2: the drugs to do it fast and quick efficient, or
- 11:25Speaker 2: we can invest the time.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Which means waking up at four forty every day so
- 11:28Speaker 1: you can go for that bike ride or go to
- 11:29Speaker 1: the gym, or go for that walk or whatever.
- 11:31Speaker 2: It is, so that we can do it.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Okay, so our time is up. What is the take
- 11:37Speaker 1: home message when you think about what Big Time Adulting
- 11:40Speaker 1: has said. Caitlin has said in this and you think
- 11:43Speaker 1: about your response and the fact that we've got so
- 11:45Speaker 1: many parents who are listening to this, going, yep, I'm
- 11:47Speaker 1: pretty well done that that was me or a t
- 11:51Speaker 1: take home.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Message Number one, you're not alone.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I thought you're going to say five or seven women
- 11:55Speaker 1: can do it, going, you've been lazy, You're not alone.
- 11:59Speaker 1: I love it.
- 12:00Speaker 2: We're all in this together. Be gentle and kind on yourself.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Yeah, yep.
- 12:05Speaker 2: You know, once upon a time we might have been
- 12:07Speaker 2: a size two. We're not size twos anymore, and that's okay.
- 12:11Speaker 2: But get out, live a healthy lifestyle, fuel your body
- 12:16Speaker 2: with good whole foods, and you're.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Going to feel much better, and just involve the family
- 12:21Speaker 1: and what you're doing. I think that's that's the takeout
- 12:23Speaker 1: message for me, especially when I think about what our
- 12:25Speaker 1: podcast is all about and what our lives are all about. Hey,
- 12:28Speaker 1: thanks so much for listening. We hope that you found
- 12:29Speaker 1: that enjoyable. We hope that it gave you a chuckle.
- 12:31Speaker 1: And also we were serious enough and useful enough to
- 12:34Speaker 1: give you at least something looking like resembling a way forward.
