- 0:00Speaker 1: If you want to find your purpose or you have
- 0:02Speaker 1: a feeling that something is missing right now watch this video.
- 0:06Speaker 1: I spent the last six years doing one of the
- 0:08Speaker 1: world's largest human research groups asking people what's their dream.
- 0:12Speaker 1: 17 million people followed this adventure and these clips get
- 0:16Speaker 1: seen by over 400 million people every 30 days. But
- 0:20Speaker 1: numbers don't matter if you still feel lost. So today
- 0:23Speaker 1: I'm going to show you my three-step framework and how
- 0:26Speaker 1: you can discover your dream so you can find purpose
- 0:29Speaker 1: regardless of where you are and where you're starting from. Firstly,
- 0:33Speaker 1: change the question. Who has heard the phrase, what do
- 0:36Speaker 1: you want to be when you grow up? What if
- 0:38Speaker 1: you never feel that you're growing up? It's the wrong
- 0:41Speaker 1: question to ask. Instead ask, what problem do you want
- 0:45Speaker 1: to solve? Now I know what you're thinking. Okay, Simon,
- 0:49Speaker 1: that's great. But I don't know what problem I want
- 0:51Speaker 1: to solve. Here's how you do it. Imagine you've won
- 0:54Speaker 1: the lottery. tomorrow. You get five million US dollars in
- 0:57Speaker 1: your bank account. You've got a few holidays out of
- 0:59Speaker 1: the way. You maybe buy yourself a house. Then what?
- 1:03Speaker 1: What would you do? Now, I can hear you rolling
- 1:05Speaker 1: your eyes. That's not going to happen. But just play along.
- 1:08Speaker 1: Just try this mind trick with me. Help your brain
- 1:10Speaker 1: become free and realise that you have trapped yourself by
- 1:15Speaker 1: the concept of money because money isn't real. But it
- 1:17Speaker 1: does trap your brain into thinking there's only one track
- 1:20Speaker 1: and that's to make money. But ironically, if you have money,
- 1:24Speaker 1: then you're able to think free. So I want you
- 1:27Speaker 1: to believe you've got money. And if you can do
- 1:29Speaker 1: this exercise, I can break you free from the trap
- 1:31Speaker 1: you found yourself in. Now, a lot of people don't
- 1:34Speaker 1: agree with me on the point about the importance of
- 1:36Speaker 1: rooting your dream and the business you will build around
- 1:40Speaker 1: something you love. I can hear you also saying, but Simon,
- 1:43Speaker 1: It's not that easy to do what you love. And
- 1:45Speaker 1: the common advice from business gurus that don't know what
- 1:47Speaker 1: they're doing is start with a market gap or something
- 1:50Speaker 1: that no one else is doing. Find a problem you
- 1:53Speaker 1: can solve. Think about what other people want. Now that
- 1:56Speaker 1: all sounds good, doesn't it? Sounds logical. It's wrong. Now,
- 2:00Speaker 1: although there is merit in understanding a market gap and
- 2:02Speaker 1: potentially filling it, it's not going to give you the
- 2:05Speaker 1: tools you need, the energy you need to make a
- 2:08Speaker 1: dream a reality. It's not going to be your true purpose.
- 2:11Speaker 1: And most people do follow this conventional advice. And I
- 2:14Speaker 1: have seen for the 80 plus startups that I've invested in,
- 2:17Speaker 1: ones that follow a market gap fail miserably. And the
- 2:20Speaker 1: ones that follow a dream succeed. This isn't me telling
- 2:23Speaker 1: you what I think. Data has proved it to me. Now,
- 2:26Speaker 1: you probably heard the saying that 90% of businesses fail
- 2:29Speaker 1: in the first year. If you believe that to be true,
- 2:31Speaker 1: you're part of the same psychology that's trapping you in
- 2:33Speaker 1: other areas. It's not true. In England, 23% of businesses
- 2:37Speaker 1: fail in the first year. 60% of businesses fail within
- 2:40Speaker 1: three years. But here's the thing. I have built businesses
- 2:42Speaker 1: that have failed but did make money and then didn't
- 2:44Speaker 1: make money. So I actually succeeded until I failed. These
- 2:47Speaker 1: stats don't show this information. And my first business I
- 2:50Speaker 1: ever started did fail within a year. But if it
- 2:52Speaker 1: hadn't failed, I wouldn't have done my second business that
- 2:54Speaker 1: survived two and a half years. And I wouldn't be
- 2:56Speaker 1: where I am today, a success financially, if those two
- 2:59Speaker 1: hadn't failed in the first place. Most businesses that I
- 3:01Speaker 1: have invested in have succeeded because the person I've invested
- 3:05Speaker 1: in believes so strongly that this problem has to be solved.
- 3:08Speaker 1: They will not stop until the problem is solved. So
- 3:10Speaker 1: what percentage actually tried again? What percentage actually kept going?
- 3:14Speaker 1: Those that care about the problem kept going. Those that
- 3:16Speaker 1: were feeling a market gap gave up because it didn't
- 3:19Speaker 1: matter to them. It's never the idea that makes a
- 3:22Speaker 1: business successful. It's the people and the motivation behind it,
- 3:25Speaker 1: the purpose that powers it. You've probably heard the saying,
- 3:29Speaker 1: it's only failure if you stop. So what's going to
- 3:32Speaker 1: help you not stop? If you have this thing I'm
- 3:35Speaker 1: trying to teach you here, then you can work forever
- 3:37Speaker 1: without feeling like it's not working. I'm going to say
- 3:40Speaker 1: it again because I need to help your subconscious hear this.
- 3:42Speaker 1: The only way you're going to succeed and follow through
- 3:45Speaker 1: is if something really matters to you. I want to
- 3:48Speaker 1: fix the education system. That's why I'm sitting here teaching
- 3:51Speaker 1: you this stuff. Because this isn't taught to you in school.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Purpose isn't even allowed to be discussed in school. It's
- 3:55Speaker 1: too fluffy because it's not graded. But that's the point.
- 3:58Speaker 1: What's going to motivate you is understanding the importance of
- 4:01Speaker 1: follow through. Follow through and persistence is the number one
- 4:04Speaker 1: trait for all success. What's going to give you persistence
- 4:07Speaker 1: is pain. You have to solve a problem. Pain equals purpose.
- 4:11Speaker 1: If you followed the exercise I just gave you a
- 4:13Speaker 1: minute ago. And you've given yourself the feeling that you've
- 4:15Speaker 1: got abundance. You've got all the money you need. Maybe
- 4:17Speaker 1: you've managed to recenter yourself to what actually matters to you.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Maybe you've come up with a crazy idea or something
- 4:22Speaker 1: you'd do if money wasn't a problem. But now you're
- 4:24Speaker 1: probably in that point where you're like, I can't. do
- 4:26Speaker 1: it though Simon even though I maybe found it I
- 4:28Speaker 1: know the thing I want to do but let's just
- 4:30Speaker 1: dig in to this thing you want to do and
- 4:32Speaker 1: I'm hoping there's pain here because of this pain we're
- 4:35Speaker 1: gonna be able to make it happen now let's just
- 4:37Speaker 1: discuss the things you love to do a list of
- 4:39Speaker 1: things that you would do if you weren't being paid
- 4:41Speaker 1: to do them it could be like me I would
- 4:43Speaker 1: do these videos if it was making no money I
- 4:45Speaker 1: knew it was helping someone I would do them anyway
- 4:48Speaker 1: because I like talking to the camera I like sharing
- 4:50Speaker 1: what I've learned I like helping people break free from
- 4:53Speaker 1: their limiting belief systems So what is it you're good at?
- 4:56Speaker 1: Maybe you're a writer. Maybe you're a painter. Maybe you
- 4:59Speaker 1: can sing. What is it you're good at? What is
- 5:01Speaker 1: it you love to do? It probably won't happen unless
- 5:04Speaker 1: it's based in pain and money will probably stop you
- 5:06Speaker 1: doing it. So what I really want is your pain.
- 5:09Speaker 1: What is your pain? Now, sometimes in life, you might
- 5:12Speaker 1: not have had any pain. I kind of wish it
- 5:13Speaker 1: for you. You have to understand your pain. This is
- 5:16Speaker 1: how I discovered my pain. And it's very nuanced and important.
- 5:18Speaker 1: So I try to use my story to help you.
- 5:20Speaker 1: I'm 15 years old. I've got a middle class life.
- 5:22Speaker 1: I don't really like school because I'm dyslexic and I
- 5:25Speaker 1: don't really feel like I fit in. Then my father
- 5:27Speaker 1: died suddenly of a heart attack in front of me.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Then the next thing was I got thrown out of
- 5:31Speaker 1: home and I'm now in the real world on my own.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I couldn't get a job because I was too young.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I was 15 years old. I went to social services,
- 5:37Speaker 1: the benefit system, to try and get help. They told
- 5:39Speaker 1: me no. And so I'm stuck. And I'm thinking, crap,
- 5:42Speaker 1: what am I going to do to survive? Something woke
- 5:44Speaker 1: up in my brain. This entrepreneur muscle, I call it,
- 5:46Speaker 1: woke up in my brain. Now, I probably told you
- 5:47Speaker 1: a story before, so I'm not going to go into
- 5:48Speaker 1: it all again. But what I'm getting to is that
- 5:50Speaker 1: at that moment, I wanted and realised I needed, not
- 5:54Speaker 1: just wanted, I needed to start a business to survive.
- 5:57Speaker 1: And I didn't know how. And then I'm like, the
- 6:00Speaker 1: school system's given me nothing to survive in the real world.
- 6:04Speaker 1: I could tell you the capital of countries, but I
- 6:06Speaker 1: can't tell you how to make money. I can't tell
- 6:08Speaker 1: you how to sell. Somehow I pushed through, through luck,
- 6:11Speaker 1: through just no choice. I somehow started a business, a
- 6:15Speaker 1: gardening company. And somehow, a lot of people helped me
- 6:18Speaker 1: along the way. Somehow I survived. and started another business,
- 6:22Speaker 1: another business, another business. And here I am later, 19
- 6:24Speaker 1: companies later, I'm a success, depending on how you define success,
- 6:27Speaker 1: but I own my time, right? It's how I define success.
- 6:30Speaker 1: And so the real pain for me was that remembering
- 6:33Speaker 1: that 15 year old me who went into the real
- 6:35Speaker 1: world and the school system hadn't helped me survive. So
- 6:39Speaker 1: I'm determined to fix the school system. I will not
- 6:41Speaker 1: stop until it's fixed. I want this pain for you.
- 6:44Speaker 1: And it takes a little bit of confidence and honesty
- 6:47Speaker 1: to confront what your pain can be. Whatever has happened
- 6:50Speaker 1: to you that's bad is likely to be the most
- 6:52Speaker 1: amazing rocket fuel you'll ever have. So if you haven't
- 6:55Speaker 1: had pain, I'm kind of wishing it for you. Go
- 6:58Speaker 1: travel the world. Go see people in pain. Go see
- 7:01Speaker 1: the world's problems. A lot of people run away from pain.
- 7:04Speaker 1: A lot of people don't, especially in England, by the way,
- 7:06Speaker 1: wherever you're watching this in the world, I noticed that
- 7:08Speaker 1: I see a psychiatrist once a month. Somehow that's a problem.
- 7:10Speaker 1: People think that means I've got a problem. It stops
- 7:12Speaker 1: me having a problem because I examine my pain. I
- 7:14Speaker 1: break it out. I understand it. And then I apply
- 7:16Speaker 1: it in a positive way to solve the problem that
- 7:18Speaker 1: pain has caused me. This is what we're supposed to
- 7:20Speaker 1: do with pain. It's experience. You're supposed to use it.
- 7:23Speaker 1: If you buried it in a box or you're ignoring it,
- 7:25Speaker 1: you're missing a chance to give your life deep, deep purpose.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Pain is where your purpose lives. Now, packaging... this into
- 7:34Speaker 1: a mission can be complicated. I'm going to try and
- 7:36Speaker 1: talk through it. But just before we do this, just
- 7:38Speaker 1: recap one second, okay? You've let your brain be creative
- 7:42Speaker 1: by removing money as a barrier to the next step.
- 7:45Speaker 1: So your brain is freed up to think about what
- 7:47Speaker 1: it is you want to do. Then we have done
- 7:49Speaker 1: an exercise of listing the things you like to do.
- 7:51Speaker 1: And then the final bit is try to dig into
- 7:54Speaker 1: your pain, the thing that really matters to you or
- 7:58Speaker 1: problem you can solve in the world. But how to
- 8:00Speaker 1: package it into a mission, how to package it into
- 8:02Speaker 1: something that's sustainable. Let's talk through this for one second.
- 8:05Speaker 1: I have interviewed over 200 of the world's most successful
- 8:08Speaker 1: entrepreneurs on my podcast. And the thing that they all
- 8:11Speaker 1: have in common is they didn't just want to be successful.
- 8:14Speaker 1: They needed it. They didn't have a plan B. There's
- 8:17Speaker 1: no other option. And the problem they're solving matters. You
- 8:21Speaker 1: have to remove your limiting belief systems about money. You
- 8:23Speaker 1: have to remove your limiting belief systems about experience. And
- 8:27Speaker 1: you have to remove your limiting belief systems that you
- 8:29Speaker 1: don't have enough time. All of these things are going
- 8:31Speaker 1: to stop you from pursuing your dream, pushing through and
- 8:35Speaker 1: into the pain. If you look carefully at everyone that's successful,
- 8:39Speaker 1: you will find someone who's overcome these obstacles. The world's
- 8:42Speaker 1: most successful people all have this thing, this unshakable mission,
- 8:46Speaker 1: this desire to not just have success, but ensure it happens. Now,
- 8:51Speaker 1: one of the things I really need you to understand
- 8:53Speaker 1: is that If you have pain and you know exactly
- 8:56Speaker 1: what you love to do, you may need still to
- 8:58Speaker 1: bring someone in to help you that has hopefully the
- 9:00Speaker 1: same pain. By the way, this is the best way
- 9:02Speaker 1: to hire. I don't manage people. I have 50 people
- 9:04Speaker 1: on my team. I don't manage them. I manage purpose,
- 9:05Speaker 1: not people. So if you have hired people that care
- 9:08Speaker 1: about the same pain point that you have, then you
- 9:10Speaker 1: are not going to have to manage them. They're going
- 9:11Speaker 1: to be self-motivated and self-managing. The other thing is you're
- 9:14Speaker 1: allowed to make money fixing a problem in the world.
- 9:17Speaker 1: If I fix the education system and give people knowledge
- 9:20Speaker 1: for free, I'm not going to charge people for this
- 9:21Speaker 1: video or help. but I make money doing it. That's
- 9:24Speaker 1: a good thing. So another limiting belief a lot of
- 9:26Speaker 1: people have is they have to do, a good thing
- 9:28Speaker 1: has to be a charity. No, a good thing doesn't
- 9:31Speaker 1: have to be a charity. You are allowed to make
- 9:33Speaker 1: money from this thing that you have that might be
- 9:35Speaker 1: causing pain in the world. Because if you make money,
- 9:37Speaker 1: it solves all problems. You can hire even more people
- 9:39Speaker 1: to help you with the problem. Now, I'm not with
- 9:41Speaker 1: you right now, sitting with you, making notes around this video.
- 9:45Speaker 1: I don't know if you've managed to identify your pain
- 9:47Speaker 1: and be honest about it. I don't know if you've
- 9:49Speaker 1: made a list of the things you actually love. And
- 9:50Speaker 1: I don't know how you feel about making money. But
- 9:53Speaker 1: if you've moved past all the limiting belief systems of
- 9:55Speaker 1: not having enough money to do this and you have
- 9:57Speaker 1: actually been able to dig into your pain and you
- 9:59Speaker 1: have figured it out. out your list of things you'd
- 10:01Speaker 1: love to do, then you are ready to actually do it.
- 10:03Speaker 1: I think the future of business, and you can be
- 10:05Speaker 1: any company with this strategy, is for profit, for good.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Businesses that solve a problem that matter to you, that
- 10:12Speaker 1: go out there in the world and use the power
- 10:14Speaker 1: of business to fix the problems that governments don't fix,
- 10:17Speaker 1: to help the people that get left behind. You have
- 10:20Speaker 1: this power. I would even argue if you don't go
- 10:23Speaker 1: ahead and do this idea you now have, someone dies.
- 10:26Speaker 1: You're going to make a difference in the world. Don't
- 10:28Speaker 1: make it about you. Stop making excuses. No one cares
- 10:32Speaker 1: about your post. I'm not going to judge you. You're
- 10:35Speaker 1: judging you. That's the only person. Get out there and
- 10:37Speaker 1: make your dream a reality. Let me know how you
- 10:40Speaker 1: get on. I really want to hear what you're going
- 10:42Speaker 1: to do and how I can help you more. There's
- 10:43Speaker 1: lots of content on this channel to help you go
- 10:45Speaker 1: to the next step. Once you're clear on the things
- 10:47Speaker 1: we've discussed here, I'm doing this because I want my
- 10:49Speaker 1: son to grow up in a better world than the
- 10:51Speaker 1: one we presently have where the education system is broken.
- 10:54Speaker 1: If you want to be a part of that mission,
- 10:56Speaker 1: then join us on helpbank.com. Aidy, come say hello. This
- 10:58Speaker 1: is my son, Aiden, and I home educate him. Home education,
- 11:02Speaker 1: a brilliant thing, is it frees your mind from the
- 11:04Speaker 1: system telling you how to live. Sit down, do what
- 11:07Speaker 1: you're told, wear the same uniform. Do you know homeschool?
- 11:11Speaker 1: One plus one equals? Eleven. The purpose of life is?
- 11:14Speaker 1: A life of purpose. Okay, you want to tell anybody
- 11:17Speaker 1: anything out there? We used to live in tribes. Do
- 11:18Speaker 1: you want to talk about that? We used to live
- 11:19Speaker 1: in tribes for five thousand and we used to get
- 11:21Speaker 1: back to that. Helping each other, right? We used to
- 11:24Speaker 1: live in communities where helping each other was the goal.
- 11:27Speaker 1: And I think we need to get back to that, right?
- 11:28Speaker 1: Aidan teaches me this. I'm teaching you that you're not
- 11:31Speaker 1: alone in doing this either. Don't think you have to
- 11:33Speaker 1: do this on your own. You don't. The strongest people
- 11:35Speaker 1: ask for help, right? Right. You want to say anything else?
- 11:39Speaker 1: Go have some chicken? Yeah. See you later, guys.
