- 0:05SPEAKER_00: You feel great, and your ego starts whispering.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: Ah, you're in the right to relax and just, you know, maybe I can just dip my standards.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: No, those were the standards that built you.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Why, in fact, would you allow yourself to start deteriorating from there?
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: Sure, you can enjoy the success.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying don't celebrate the win.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Take your family somewhere.
- 0:23SPEAKER_00: Buy something you've wanted.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Live your life, but don't confuse enjoying success with abandoning your discipline.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: The habits that got you here aren't the punishment.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: They're part of who you became.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: All right, let's go.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: If you're tired, not feeling fit, tired, just not having to focus, tired, just not having the life that you deserve.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: This is Place B.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: I'm Jason Roossi.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Today let's just talk about holding the line.
- 0:48SPEAKER_00: You know, many times we look at circumstances and we have to understand that our standards can't change because of what's happening in our life.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Uh, when the seasons are everything is working.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: Business is great, money is great, your marriage is going perfect, your body, you feel great, you feel strong, you're winning.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: And then there's seasons where just everything is going wrong.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: Everything's working against you.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Your business just gets punched in the mouth.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: Someone disappoints you, you lose money or you get hurt, your plans, they fall apart.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: And in both situations, we make the same mistake.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: We let our circumstances dictate our standards.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: So today I want to talk about something different, right?
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: I want to talk about holding the line, not just when things are bad, but you have to also hold the line when things are good.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: You know, your ability to live 100 is determined by what you do on your best day.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: It's determined on whether you choose to continue the person you said you're going to be, regardless of what kind of days shows up in front of you.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: Think about this.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: When things go bad, our natural reaction is to retreat.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: The deal falls apart, the relationship gets difficult, you have a bad breakup with a partnership, you get injured, your bank account takes a hit, someone quits on you and goes out there and says lies about you.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Something happens in your life that you didn't plan for.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: And suddenly the standards that you've set for yourself, they start slipping.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: You tell yourself you're too busy to train, right?
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: You tell yourself that you need a little more sleep.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: So you hit that snooze button.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: You eat like a bunch of junk food because you just need to grab something quick because you're so busy.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: You stop being present with your family or just being irritated with them or being short with, and you start reacting instead of thinking.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: You tell yourself, well, oh, I've got a lot going on right now.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: And, you know, the truth is you probably do.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: But here's the problem.
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: One bad event can eventually become five bad events when you abandon the behaviors that were holding your life together.
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: Most of our life comes where one bad thing happens and we allow it to dictate and to approve for a second thing to happen and a third thing and a fourth thing.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: And unfortunately, at some part, your life unraveled.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: But here's where you need to hold the line because maybe you're not advancing today, but you can't retreat.
- 2:59SPEAKER_00: Don't retreat.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: You have to set yourself for a personal record every day.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: And sometimes refusing to go backwards is simply the record you're going to set.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: When the pressure hits, can you still think?
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Can you still execute?
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: Can you still control what is controllable?
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: That's where you're going to hold the line.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: When you tell yourself that right now, I feel out of control, but in reality, there are things I can control.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: You know, success, it can also make you soft.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: We talk about constantly being disciplined during diversity, and we talk not enough about being disciplined when things are going great and when you're having success, when things start working, when you're making more money, when your business grows, you get in shape, people they start recognizing you.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: And slowly, your negotiation standards, they just begin to toe the line that the things that create success for you today, you say, you know what, maybe I can just take my foot off the pedal.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: So you say I can skip today, or oh, you know, I deserve not to actually have to get up and go go in early.
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: I've already made it.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: So I guess if I've made it, I don't really need to do anything else.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: Or, you know, why don't I just get back to it on Monday, even though it's Thursday?
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: And that's where the danger lies.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: Failure, it tests whether you quit.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: But honestly, success, it tests whether you'll drift.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: You've seen so many times in life where people have success, but very shortly after have failure.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: And a lot of this becomes attributing to just drifting away from the patterns that got you success in the first part.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: That drifting, it's sneaky, right?
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: There's no explosion, giant mistake.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: It's 5% that you start to do that you didn't do before, then another 5%, then another, and then until one day you're living just completely different life than the one you intentionally built for yourself prior.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: The line, it doesn't move.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: You have to define your line.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: Like why and what are the things that don't change?
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: What are these things that have to stay?
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: What are the standards that I have set for my body?
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: What are the standards that I have set for me as a husband, as a father?
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: What are the standards that I have set for my business or how I treat people?
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: And what are those promises that I'm going to keep to myself?
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: Ask yourself those questions today.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: What are the standards that you have to hold when things are good and also when things are bad?
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: And it can't depend on how you feel.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: The line, it doesn't move because I'm winning.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: It doesn't move because I'm losing.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: That's the whole point of having a line.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: That's your line.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: Bad day, hold the line.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: A normal workout is an hour.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Okay, but everything goes wrong.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Maybe you don't get the hour, but you do 20 minutes.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Can you do 20, do 10?
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Do something that continues to hold the line that says, I do this regardless.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: I do this regardless of how I'm motivated or if I feel right or if I feel bad or what.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Sometimes the victory, it's just the maintenance.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: It's not always about progress.
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: It's about holding the line.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: Protect your identity, keep the promise, hold the line, and you again have the chance to come back and fight tomorrow.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: And that's different than just saying, yeah, screw it.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Today just doesn't count.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: Because eventually, if you just don't count enough days, you're so far off the line that you forget where the line even started.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: Every day counts.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Every single day.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: A good day?
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: Hold the line.
- 6:03SPEAKER_00: Now flip it, you're crushing it.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Money's coming in, business is going fantastic, you feel great, and your ego starts whispering.
- 6:08SPEAKER_00: Ah, you're in the right to relax and just, you know, maybe I can just dip my standards.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: No, those were the standards that built you.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Why, in fact, would you allow yourself to start deteriorating from there?
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: Sure, you can enjoy the success.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying don't celebrate the win.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Take your family somewhere, buy something you've wanted, live your life, but don't confuse enjoying success with abandoning your discipline.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: The habits that got you here aren't the punishment.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: They're part of who you became.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: When I thought about getting up at 432 and 4321 go, right, that became a morning routine.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: It became my decision-making framework.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: Think about your life right now, right?
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: When you know what the standard is, your brain starts and stops negotiating with yourself because you, 4, 3, 2, 1, go.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: You do the thing, not because you're just motivated, not because you're ready for something.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: It's because when the circumstances aren't perfect, you've already made the decision about who you are and what you do.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: Stop renegotiating with yourself for decisions you've already made.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Here's what you need to do: you need to define three lines today.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: Your body.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: What is your minimum standard for training, for walking, for nutrition, for sleep?
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: Define that line for your family.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: What doesn't get sacrificed when business gets crazy?
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: How can you protect your family and be them for there for them?
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: Are you there for dinner?
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: Is there a date night, coaching, your kids, putting the phone away when you're around your family?
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: Hold the line.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Business and purpose.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: What actions continue regardless of results, your calls, your follow-ups, creating leads, underwriting deals, learning the purpose.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Again, define and hold the line.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Now, holding the line, it's not stubbornness.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: The line doesn't mean refusing to change.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: Your strategy, it can adapt, tactics can change.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: I mean, honestly, your timeline can change.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: You can move up, it can move back, right?
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: New information changes your decisions, but your principles don't have to change every time your emotions do.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: This isn't about adapting and pivoting and reacting.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: It's about controlling who you are in good and bad.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Be flexible with the plan, but be relentless with your standards.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: There's going to be incredible seasons ahead for you.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: Amazing.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: And then there's going to be brutal ones.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: Neither one of them decide hold you who you are.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: When you're winning, hold the line.
- 8:21SPEAKER_00: When you're losing, hold the line.
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: When everyone is applauding you, hold the line.
- 8:26SPEAKER_00: And when nobody's noticing you and you're doing the work in the dark, hold the line.
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: When you're motivated, hold the line.
- 8:32SPEAKER_00: When you don't feel like doing anything, hold the line.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: The goal, it was never to create a life where everything goes your way.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: In reality, is to become someone who knows exactly who you are, regardless of how the day is going.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: The resilience, that's the discipline, that's the character who makes you live 100.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: So ask yourself today, what is it that gets you 4321 go?
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: All right, I'm Jason Rossi, that's the Live 100 Podcast.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: Let's do this.
