- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, welcome to the M&KB NFL podcast, Conoror here, Albert Brear there, and Before we get into a big week
- 0:15[SPEAKER_01]: end of NFL football, everyone's kind of had their college football is broken moment and meanwhile like I'm sitting over here on the side and noted it makes to the National Championship and the first year the playoffs with NIL and I'm like yeah it's actually working out pretty good for me so I'm not going to complain now I'm going to complain because we got kicked out of the playoffs it was absolute bullshit and then what I think was actually worse was
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: Our coach taken the ball and running home and saying that he's not going to play in a bull game.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I disagree with that, too.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think the, and a couple of schools now have piggybacked off of their decision.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: And if decided not to play bull games, then anybody can get a think of PopTarts Albert.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: Like, no one cares about PopTarts.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go home with Pop Tarspo.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to go on the record and seeing that.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: I love a bowl game that can make fun of itself and have self-awareness in the Pop Tarspo.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, like, dukes male, bowl, come on.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the Pop Tarspo, the dukes male bowl is not category two, where it's just, it is the self-awareness is spilling over, right?
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: And sometimes it's like a bat of male following on somebody.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I mean, I, I,
- 1:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like, look, I think that the, like for Notre Dame here is like the crucial thing, like you are walking away from a month of practice and development that all these other teams are going to get.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: And so that means not only do all of your players were coming back for next year, because I mean, I would assume like Jeremiah love and maybe a couple other guys opt out of the bowl game right like for the draft.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: Even if you do accept a bowl and but imitation so you're getting next year's team ready Why wouldn't you want that I mean at the end of that I can understand being pissed I can understand like wanting to take it out on somebody I can understand say saying F everybody right what's the dust settles like to me like that's the thing is
- 2:20[SPEAKER_00]: are you really want to walk away from that month of practices, that month of developing young guys, and that game where you're going to be able to get whatever it is, five new starters for next year, seven new starters for next year, whatever that number is, get them in position to hit the ground running.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's spring football and then keep that rolling into camp
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: the season.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_00]: So I know this isn't a college football podcast, but I love Marcus Freeman.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_00]: He's a puck guy.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: I don't, I don't understand why you wouldn't, why in the end, when you take the emotion out of it, why you would walk away from that piece of it, because that to me is more important than any of the others.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think of it a lot of things, right?
- 3:10[SPEAKER_01]: Like, if you were Marcus Freeman, wouldn't the, wouldn't the, like the ultimate salty move would have been?
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: Cause when these bold games are gonna be on ESPN and ESPN and an SEC or play and footsy in the bed, and everybody knows that's how this happened.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: But if your Marcus Freeman, you show up to, it wasn't an SEC team that caught in, no.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: over now.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: It was Miami.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it was Miami, but it was a three-loss Alabama team that got it.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_00]: Do you know what the real problem is that they do these ranking shows every week?
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's true, too.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: Which is so stupid.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: Because I actually like, I would like to protect the teams that are aggressively scheduling non-conference games and
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean like in this case like Miami did aggressively schedule that game so I think that game should count for something You know sure the same way I have like I have like a little bit more sympathy for Texas because If you take the Ohio State game out of the equation, there are two loss team like what separates them from Alabama You know what I mean I mean
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think that you're penalizing, and we got a lot of NFL to play Florida State in lost to Florida State.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: So, you're state, but you're penalizing BYU for getting its ass kicked in the conference title game, and then saying that Alabama getting its ass kicked in the conference title game is totally fine.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: But I just keep thinking about
- 4:43[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it's probably 40 kids on that roster for Notre Dame that have never gotten to play and will never get to play and next week you're off the law school or Goldman Sachs or wherever the hell you go for Notre Dame they didn't let me in so I don't know what the I don't know what you get to do after you graduate from there, but
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: I just feel like they, you know, you go down there if you're Marcus Freeman, you accept your invitation to the Liberty Bowl against Army or whatever it is.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: You don't participate in any of the press.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: You don't participate in any of the interviews.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: You go out and you kick the living Christ out of your opponent and then you tweet something salty when Alabama, when, when, when Alabama loses in the first round of, uh, or in Miami.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_00]: You got the costume at the sooners?
- 5:30[SPEAKER_00]: Who's Miami play?
- 5:31[SPEAKER_00]: Text Sanam.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, they'll lose that one, too.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know when I know that plays Ohio State, lost Indiana by the way.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I was there.
- 5:41[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, I need to stop going.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like every game I go to is a super high leverage game, which like ups the chances of me having weekends like this, where if I was just sitting on my couch, I would have, because it doesn't have like the same stakes that you used to.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: And the conference title games are kind of stupid now anyway, you know what I mean?
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: I go like every game I go to is now as like a super high leverage game, which increases the chances of me having like a miserable end to my weekend being legitimately upset.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, like me leaving the stadium and what, like,
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: I just wanted to go to sleep after the game, you know, like so that wouldn't happen if I was like going to Columbus for like Rutgers weekend, you know what I mean now if the upside is like Texas was great, you know what I mean, but Maybe the better strategy is to go to a good up home go to a game against a good up home and where I know we're gonna win so it's not like 70 to nothing in the stadiums have fallen the third quarter
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: but it's also I also protect myself from a result I've gotten a few times in the last few years if uh if Indiana turns into a little bit college football power that would be hysterical wouldn't that wouldn't that be like the reason they're good I mean I don't know how many of your guys would start for Ohio State but they play really
- 7:07[SPEAKER_00]: And they played a really good team ball.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think the week was a little bit of a mess for our guys.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: We had to recruit a five star, I'm not sure if you're familiar with Chris Henry Jr., but we almost lost him because we lost our offensive coordinator in the middle of the week, which if you can imagine that happening during an NFL playoff week, I think you got like a microcosm of why.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: Again, a few keeps putting in more rules.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: in that like we Brian Hartland who's at a phenomenal job and this is nothing to do with him.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: He's going to be, I think he's going to be an NFL head coach someday if he wants to be, right?
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: But he takes the U.S. F. job on Monday of last week, Tuesday of last week.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: Then National Signing Day is Wednesday.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: So our offensive coordinator while we're getting ready for Indiana now has to like sign a class to a school that he just got to in like over 48 hours.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: and because we lost him, we lost a five-star recruit, potentially we're going to lose a five-star recruit, but we had to recruit back who we didn't get back in the fold until like Friday.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: So, the college football calendar is such a mess, and I mean, I understand like the spot I'm talking from, which is like the most spoiled like champagne problem,
- 8:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you hold position.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: You want to mean like I lost a game.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: My first championship game and it was the first loss in 17 games and all of that.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: But it wasn't oiling, you know what I mean?
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like, why does this type of happen now?
- 8:34[SPEAKER_01]: Shut up.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go to uh, I know the one scene to see which, I mean, I guess we get to avoid Oregon, but they want to play Georgia, so I don't know.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: You can talk me through all this after we get down on this show.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure we'll be happy to.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: Jesus, God.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get into this.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: This was a very, very big NFL Sunday for a couple of reasons, a couple massive games, and then, uh, a little bit of, uh,
- 8:59[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it was like a salad with like a lot of good toppings on it and then like less of the salad that stuff that actually nobody wants when when they order a salad.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_01]: So let's start with with chiefs and Texans Texans when 20 to 10
- 9:15[SPEAKER_01]: the chiefs are like effectively out of the playoffs at this point.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't see what the latest percentages, but it's- Isn't it down to like 11 or something like that?
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's like a 13, 11 somewhere in there.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody's kind of freaking out about it.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's the convergence of two things.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think Patrick Mahomes played really poorly in this game.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: I think the Texan's defense, they're gonna lose Matt Burke.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_01]: You're talking about losing a, losing a coordinator to go somewhere to be an NFL head coach.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: I think Matt Burke's got a shot over in Houston.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: He's been calling a hell of a defense this season.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I think you've run those two things together with the fact that, I mean, listen, we saw it in the Super Bowl.
- 9:59[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, this chief's team is on its last, this iteration of the chiefs is on their last legs, right?
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they have to evolve, just like the Patriots evolved, just like all these, just like the Eagles evolved, just like all these teams.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's that garbage makes me think you think it's scheme.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's scheme, I think it's personnel, I think it's, and it doesn't personal dictate scheme to some degree Albert, right?
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: And I think when I see my homes, and I'm curious what your thoughts are on this, but like, you know, that first big fourth down when it was 10, 10, I saw an open receiver that he just didn't look at.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: And so I don't know what he, I don't know what's going on with him right now.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think like when you, if you want to know when my home is in trouble.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: is looking at his rushing attempts.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: He led the chiefs in rushing yesterday.
- 10:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: That tells you everything you need to know.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_00]: He does not want to do that, especially in a regular season situation.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: He'll tell you himself, like, I use my legs when I need to.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: And so, like, he's actually, I think, over the years become pretty good about, like, knowing one's time and when, and wanting to pull back on that and wanting to,
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: you know, throw the four yard check down and live to play another day, you know, and I think you've seen this more and more this year.
- 11:27[SPEAKER_00]: It isn't every week, but you've seen it more and more, where he's relying on his legs to chew up yards.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: And it just, he looks like a quarterback who's looking for answers, they're offensive line situation is a critical mass.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think, and I think too many people are going to ignore that, and he probably won't hear one person on the morning talk shows
- 11:47[SPEAKER_00]: But it is the reality that situation when you lose that many offensive linemen and they were without trace, Smith, Joann Taylor, and Josh Simmons last night, and then what was it?
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think on the first play, basically they lose Monty and Morris.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_00]: So now at left tack, how the most important position on the line, they're down to, I mean, some guy like legitimately, I'll all admit, I never heard of the guy, right?
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: Isn't it spelled pole, but it's pronounced pole A or something like that, right?
- 12:15[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like, I like, and I'm not making fun of the guy, but it's like, you know, I remember thinking last year in the Super Bowl.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like, too many didn't look great, but I, and this again, this isn't a pick on one guy.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: But you kind of felt like when Caliando got in the game, they were in trouble.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 12:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and I just think that this the offensive line has been patched together.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: because of injury this year, because they struck you out on some guys last year.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: Like the Joann Taylor thing it kind of followed them around.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: They spend on jail and more.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: I then stabilize as some things, but Josh Simmons, you know, whether it's injury or the off-field stuff, like a lot of the questions you had on him coming out of Ohio State, as impressive as he was coming into this season to win a starting job as fast as he did, a lot of that stuff came to roost.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: um, even like a dice roll on a guy like a rashi rice.
- 13:14[SPEAKER_00]: They were without him for six games this year.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, so you see a lot of dice rolls, a lot of patch in the roster together.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: And I think on balance Brett Beach is obviously done a phenomenal job.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: Of course.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_00]: But I think you look at like just this is what happens when you get your quarterback on a big contract.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_00]: And you miss a couple times.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: And you have to patch a few things together.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: And then those things don't work out.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's what it feels like to me and I don't know what the next step out of this is.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: But last night, it looked to me like my homes didn't have answers for the, and it really has sort of looked that way for most of the year, but everything just looks so hard for them on office.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think the defense is mostly fine.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like I think the defense, I don't know, Connor, is it was the defense demonstrably worse than it's been the last five years?
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think so.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: I just have to.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: I was looking at some chiefs fan comments.
- 14:15[SPEAKER_01]: This is chiefs hive on Twitter.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'll say it.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: This is where we're at.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: I hate this fan.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: I don't hate this thing.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_00]: Here we go.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: Here we go.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_00]: This is going to be something like my home sucks, right?
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, no.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: I don't hate this fan base, but I am very, I, I said this before.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: I am very, very excited for Chiefs fans to watch this team turn back into a pumpkin.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: and you're all just going to be whatever celebrity bank robbers or whatever chiefs fans are without a good football team.
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: This reminds me of any of the stars I'll say it is you know you know it's time to buckle up.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah I'll preface that by just saying this too.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_01]: I remember being in the Patriots locker room.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: Charles Barkley was there and this was like, I don't know, 2015 to 2014 somewhere around there and he had had a lot to drink you could tell and he's just walking around the locker room and all of a sudden a gaggle of reporters comes around and we start interviewing Charles Barkley about the New England Patriots.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_01]: And he just looks around and he goes, I'm going to tell you guys one thing.
- 15:25[SPEAKER_01]: Y'all are going to suck ass when Tom Brady and Bill Bella checkling.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_01]: So I preface that by saying this.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: At Chief's Hive on Twitter, I'll say it.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_01]: Fire Andy Reed.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: And if the next head coach doesn't make the playoffs with Patrick Mahomes, fire him too.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_01]: If you don't make the playoffs with the best QB and NFL history, you've got to go.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_01]: That is just phenomenal.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_00]: there i i would say like this is something i would miss this is something i witnessed here for twenty years right like so like living here and i was in college one time ready to become a starter so like i i i i i feel like i've got pretty good perspective on this
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: There is like a little bit of a, I'd say with a fan base, there's this like psychological tension almost that comes with having a quarterback like that where it's like we need to take advantage of every year that we have the guy and it feels like, you know, like there's just like almost like this, like we can't let like any single opportunity to win a championship slip away, you know?
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's probably what they're feeling right now
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, again, like, it's a historic, around like five sewer bulls and six years.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the closest to Patrius came to that was five and eight.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you know, like, so like, this is something, this is like the sort of like, the sustained success over that period of time that's never been done before.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_00]: And so, like, there is that part of it where I do have some, I want some grace on them because I, I think I know what they're feeling, but fire Andy read is a little ridiculous.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_00]: And like, I think
- 17:19[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, I mean like this is like the type of thing where I think if you are Andy and Brett and that group
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: Here's where you do your hard examination.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if this doesn't turn around in the next month, this is where like your self-scouts gonna be a little different this year, then it's been in the past, and you need to drill down the way you're doing certain things, and you need to drill down more than anything on like, did we get too comfortable in certain ways?
- 17:48[SPEAKER_00]: And like maybe it does mean like this is,
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: Is this where you walk away from Travis Calcy?
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: Is this, well, yes, you know, if you walk with, do you, do you, do you examine like Chris Jones now, like I, I don't know, I mean, like, you know, like I, I think that this is to me,
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, a fairness to Chiefs' hive, like this is probably where you do take a look at everything except for Andy Reed and Patrick Falls, right?
- 18:17[SPEAKER_01]: Right, like, yes, I mean, yeah, let's get rid of the 38-year-old Titan who's clearly got to a foot and a half in Hollywood.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, yeah, let's do that because he dropped like a hundred balls this year.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: Now, the ball that he dropped, I'm going to maintain was thrown behind him.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think this was a bad Patrick Holmes game and there are just a lot of Chiefs fans out there.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: who aren't going to say that it was a bad Patrick Holmes game.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: That deep interception.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_00]: Holmes had some throws into traffic that will have frustration throws to me.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I'm just trying to squeak at this.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_00]: Like I'm just going to try to squeeze this in here.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: There was one I think I should hear picked it off, right?
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: Was that the one on the tip?
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: Well, Petri had the unbelievable one where he tipped it to himself.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_00]: But like that one, I think the Alshihir one also, like felt like throws where it was like, effort, like there's nothing here.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna just try to force it into this window.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: the deep ball one, the one that Chris Collins worth was like, ah, a classic genius Patrick Mahomes arm pun.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: No, wasn't.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_01]: It was like 35 and cream hunt was wide open.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, throw him the ball and whatever.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: I know I'm saying this all five eight of me in my basement.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_01]: So whatever, take that with a grain of salt.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: But I just think we're both literally in our basement.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_01]: Not my mom's basement.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: I bought this basement.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no basement.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_01]: Well, in a couple of years all on this basement.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think that Chiefs fans are unable to say that Patrick Holmes had a bad game and I'll push back with you on this and then we'll finish, we got a lot to get to here.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sick, sick of this narrative that has blossomed in the NFL this year and partially blame AJ Brown for it, but it was AJ Brown and then it was Justin Jefferson last week and now it's the chiefs where it's like, if you underperform with good players on your team,
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: Tough shit like like the in Minnesota for the last three weeks on what are we going to do?
- 20:12[SPEAKER_01]: We wasted a year of Justin Jefferson's prime tough shit and they're like well Justin Jefferson's gonna be upset He's making 30 what is Don Draper say in Madman?
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: That's what the money's for right?
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: He's making 35 million dollars a year to make the situation better.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry like AJ Brown, that's what the championship rings are for that's what the money's for that's what the extension was for
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: You know, God, Chiefs fans.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's what the three Super Bowls are for.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: Sit through one bad game.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_01]: My God.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it is like, I don't know.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe this is a generational thing, but it's like the grass is greener, but you can't even see the patch of grass that you want.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 20:53[SPEAKER_00]: We're okay.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_00]: Where is that patch of grass?
- 20:56[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: Where is this greener grass that you're bitching about you want to try to get to?
- 21:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's so ridiculous and it ties into the all the other stuff how I feel about the NFL this year where it's like, oh, we won 21, 10, but like our best receiver only had four catches.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, because he was probably blocking to help the running game.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, that's how you sound.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_00]: You're talking about a higher state fans.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: This is just,
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: unbelievable.
- 21:23[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just salty.
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: We're not in the playoffs.
- 21:25[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: Let's let's get to it because like we said big weekend.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_01]: Lot going on.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: One thing.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think before we leave that Sunday night game alone?
- 21:37[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think you used to get to the Super Bowl?
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: Why not?
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that offense is good enough.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_01]: I really don't.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_00]: I don't.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think you're starting
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think you're starting to see signs that it's coming around.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: I think they can win the division around, like they did last year, and that wouldn't surprise me.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think, but again, the AFC, well, the AFC playoffs are going to be so important.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: I can't, they beat.
- 22:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's true.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: The best quarterback in the AFC playoff field right now is probably Aaron Rogers.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: Just let me say.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_01]: What about Drake, man?
- 22:12[SPEAKER_01]: Drake, man.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_01]: That's true.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think, do I think Houston can beat New England?
- 22:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_00]: Do I use New England?
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think Houston would beat New England.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think like Houston, like that's the thing is like, I look at Houston and I'm like, you don't need CJ Strahd to be.
- 22:30[SPEAKER_00]: like off the charts.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: And he's, I mean, for my money, I know his numbers weren't great last night, but he's starting to look like things are starting to come back together for him.
- 22:40[SPEAKER_00]: And they've relied on a lot of rookies on that side of the ball, like between Ursary and Marx and Higgins and like the offensive coordinators and rookie, right?
- 22:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like if you want to look at it that way, yeah, I don't know.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, like I,
- 22:56[SPEAKER_00]: With as good as that defense is they don't need to be great on offense.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_00]: I I don't know.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, can they go into orchard park and win in January?
- 23:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe not.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think so.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but I mean like it's I
- 23:13[SPEAKER_01]: that defense is so freaking good, you know what I mean, I would like, I would like a like a a Houston Seattle Super Bowl.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_01]: Can you imagine the NFL getting one of those?
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: I would like it.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I'm not going to be good for Iowa State recruiting.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: I wouldn't be one of those like, ah, ratings, guys, I think those, those people are are idiots.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, celebration of the Thanksgiving ratings, even though the ratings are done differently in all that.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so students.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: But, but just the idea that like, where we, we only now accept championship games through the lens of like, how they'll do in the ratings.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, everybody's stupid.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_00]: That's like a...
- 23:52[SPEAKER_00]: I like not to not to take a shot at the area that you're sitting in, Connor, but that is such a New York state of mind.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, well, it's like that.
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: This team's irrelevant because they're in the middle of the country and so no one wants to see them in the big game.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like, yeah, like, Pacer's Oklahoma City was a really fun finals.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, and I don't give it to you.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_00]: You had all the connections mixed fans that were like, no one cares.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, well, no, you don't care because all you care about is your teens.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, it's, I think that's, uh, and you're surrounded by other people like you.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_00]: So you don't know what other people think.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_00]: Oh man, we're like, we're like selling, we're settling a lot of sports here, I think.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: Settle, yeah, I think this was just a kind of a cathartic Monday morning.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: Packers 20.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_00]: Hard craft.
- 24:43[SPEAKER_01]: Akka's 28 bears 21 at Lambo.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: I loved every minute of this game.
- 24:50[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that the bears played an almost perfect second half, but it was not enough to make up for the totality.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_01]: I think of a bad first half, a really, really good Jordan love game.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: An excellent Jeff Affleck game.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't mean?
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_00]: Jordan love starting to make big throws in every game.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: Big throws in the want and the Thanksgiving game.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: Big throws in this one.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: And it, you know, like the amazing thing is they've had a couple catastrophic injuries and and Tucker craft and Devonti Wyatt, right?
- 25:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like so it won on each side of the ball that I think we're a pretty big deal and the Wyatt injury to me is exacerbated by the fact that you traded Kenny Clark right.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_00]: But they've been able to develop, I mean, like, I had LaFlor on the phone last night, probably about like 10 o'clock, and I was just saying to him like, how, I mean, I'll all say here, like, I didn't really know who ain't being, I can, I can borrow, I think it's a havery and princess name, the defense event.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_01]: Kingsley and Ikbari.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and you bar a right like Matt will refer to him as JJ.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_00]: I guess that's his nickname, right?
- 25:54[SPEAKER_00]: But but but but he makes one of the biggest plays of the game is huge.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: You don't want to mean like he makes a huge play at the at the very end of the game on that on that third one You know to stacks up Kyle men and guy and
- 26:09[SPEAKER_00]: and and and and put some in fourth down and then, you know, and then you have Keisha Nixon who a couple of years ago was sort of just a kick or turn, you know, making a big play in the secondary and, you know, I was just saying,
- 26:31[SPEAKER_00]: They've got like, they've got the great players at the top, right?
- 26:34[SPEAKER_00]: So you've got like your, you know, you're micoparsons, your Jordan loves, your, you know, your Josh Jacobs, your, you know, I think Xavier McKinney might be in that category.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like, like, as you're in Cooper, I think it's like a very underrated player who's a freak athlete, right?
- 26:50[SPEAKER_00]: So you've got those guys at the top of your roster.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: But then you've got like almost a second level of players that are all really good also, you know?
- 26:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's really apparent like with the receivers.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_00]: And maybe Christian Watson is now developed.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_00]: Cause I think we all like Christian Watson and say like he looks like a number one receiver.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 27:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like just the body and how he moves and all that stuff.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like it looks like he could be a number one receiver.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he's developing into that now.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_00]: But they bring Jayden Reed back who you almost forgot about.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_00]: There was a really good player making key catches for him.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_00]: They've got Luke Musgrave
- 27:23[SPEAKER_00]: But like as capable of making big catches, it's just like everywhere you turn there's another good player, you know, and and and again like guys like I can borrow and and and Nixon are making plays at the end of the game to win the game
- 27:40[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I just, I think the packers are really impressive that way and that like they've just got balance and depth everywhere, which I think like ultimately that's the sort of thing that wins in the playoffs too right like Like generally you're going to have to win different types of games in the playoffs and if you got balance you can win different types of games.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think that what's really cool about this one is that I felt for the first time and Matt LaFlor and Ben Johnson had a very quick handshake and Matt LaFlor kind of just hit him with the Ben, you know, on the way out, just that Ben, and that was it and they were on their way.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_00]: Ben, if you don't, you haven't seen two weeks.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: Diddy?
- 28:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: Um, so,
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: I mean for those of you guys who don't know Ben Johnson said before the season started that he was looking forward to beating Mattler.
- 28:29[SPEAKER_01]: He enjoyed beating Mattler for twice a year while he was in Detroit.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_01]: Clearly an effort to get under Mattler for a skin.
- 28:35[SPEAKER_01]: It worked.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: Adam's 10 of its packers offence of coordinator this week talked about how they took it personally.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_01]: You know, it was rehashed.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_00]: It was kind of one of those like, do these guys know each other when Ben said it?
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: And they didn't have me to know each other.
- 28:55[SPEAKER_01]: about this whole thing as it was taking place like this is finally an actual rivalry okay since 2000 the Packers have won I think six division titles to one their rivalry is like 52 and 16 all time like it's not close but the bears pushed the Packers to the very outer limits there I think Ben was
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, they should have scored that touchdown at the end of the game.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: It was the right play call, Caleb Williams threw it late.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_01]: And then I bet he had a good two-point conversion call, too.
- 29:28[SPEAKER_01]: And I bet he was going to go for it at Lambo.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_00]: But, um, that's good enough for you.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: No, the end of the game press conference was a little muted, although I will say this to you.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_01]: And I know I'm sounding very pro bench on some today for some reason, but I gave him a lot of credit because we've seen him be combative with the media, not overly so, but like when he's sick of a question, he's ready to go like all of us, I guess.
- 29:53[SPEAKER_01]: But
- 29:53[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he was really good post game and I don't remember him being asked if he was going to go for two or not, but Just really thoughtful.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he gave a lot of good answers and I think it's one where both of these coaches can probably see like all right I don't think any of these teams are going anywhere like this is this is going to be a rivalry and and that's good like
- 30:14[SPEAKER_00]: it was just great to like the setting like it is.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean like it's dark like almost like like it's a late afternoon game in the upper Midwest where it's like dark like basically at kickoff it's five degree windshield like all of it was just great theater I guess it's
- 30:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like you just it felt like the beginning of something.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 30:44[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll get it again in two weeks.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_00]: Or is it?
- 30:46[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's because of the funky NFL schedule aren't isn't we're getting it on a Saturday that conflicts with the college football playoff games.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_00]: I believe is that right.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I think so because the NFL can't work with college football.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_00]: They have to big foot them.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, it's another problem that I have.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_00]: Like can I go out of quick rant on that one of the short last of you here this rant hit it go.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_00]: This is an opportunity Okay, and I think like Brian roll-up when he was still at the NFL.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_00]: He's with the PGA tour now Wanted to work on this and now he's gone so obviously it's not like you know in his court anymore
- 31:23[SPEAKER_00]: This is an opportunity to make that weekend into a festival for the sport to make it like the most unbelievable a couple days of football for the sport and you're unwillingness to work with each other and you're unwillingness to say you know what?
- 31:43[SPEAKER_00]: like let's find a way to turn this into a celebration of football, staggering the kickoff times, whatever you need to do.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_00]: So everybody can watch as much of it as possible, would be so great for both levels of the sport, and they should be working together.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_00]: Make no mistake about this.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_00]: The NFL needs college football.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 32:03[SPEAKER_00]: The NFL, the NFL is fueled by college football.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_00]: the thing that protects football and that protects the NFL in a way that other sports aren't is the popularity and its lower levels.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_00]: College football might be the most the second one was popular sport in this country behind only pro football and high school football is more popular than all the other high school sports put together, right?
- 32:28[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 32:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like, the NFL is protected by that.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_00]: The NFL has a free farm system where they get players who are developed and marketed, right?
- 32:38[SPEAKER_00]: So they're getting ready made stars in a way the other sports aren't.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yep, if you will, one of their biggest television properties of the year, because God knows if college football wasn't as popular as it is, there's no way the draft would be what it is now.
- 32:52[SPEAKER_00]: No way, look at the NBA draft.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_00]: When it's a bunch of guys coming from Europe,
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: no one cares about the draft.
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: The draft is fueled by the popularity college football.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_00]: So the inability of these people to work together makes no sense.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_00]: And you can turn this weekend into a celebration of the sport.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_00]: But nobody loves football more than I do.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe you can argue for yourself on this one corner.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_00]: But I
- 33:17[SPEAKER_00]: I love this sport.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's always been my favorite sport.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_00]: And like to me, there is such a great opportunity here.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_00]: But when you hear guys from the NFL come out and say, well, that's always been an NFL weekend.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but Christmas was an NBA was it was an NBA right like did you guys respect that so I mean April first was opening weekend for major league baseball and I think it was officially should do our Sanders day last year so yeah we are arguing about whether he's going to go first second or third you know so I like I just think that they're like honestly and and I'll
- 33:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'll cut it out here, but like that day, which is now 12 days away, where they have the three first round games.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_00]: There's the first round playoff game in the Friday night before.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_00]: There is such an opportunity to turn this into something more, right?
- 34:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_00]: Four, the good of the sport.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_00]: And
- 34:11[SPEAKER_00]: they're unwillingness to work together is baffling to me.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's all in pursuit of like, well, we just want our biggest rating number and we want to and we treat every television property like a piece of real estate and we need to make sure we have the most valuable pieces of real estate and the most inventory of that real estate that we possibly can.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_00]: And it's this private equity mindset where like,
- 34:33[SPEAKER_00]: you could like start this weekend on Thursday.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 34:36[SPEAKER_00]: Like have violence and pions and all that different stuff and a lot of the the network partners, I mean it's ESPN.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_00]: So it's one of your partners, right?
- 34:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like that has three of those four games I believe.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's just mind-blowing to me that they can't figure out a way to make this work without like making it like well, if you don't have two screens, you can't watch everything.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_01]: Speaking of mind-blowing and not being able to make things work, let's take a quick detour over to Steelers Ravens, Steelers win this 127 to 22, and
- 35:10[SPEAKER_01]: I had a tough time with the idea that, I mean, this was a big win for Pittsburgh.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_01]: It was a great, Aaron Rodgers played a great game.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_01]: The fact that with a broken wrist, he threw a tipped ball and then jumped into the frame to try to catch his own ball and so it wasn't intercepted and we can get into that part of it too.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_01]: But with a broken wrist at age 42, I mean, that's some cowboy stuff.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_01]: If you had any doubts about the fact that this guy wants to win, even though he's a little bit quirky, I mean, that should dispel it right there.
- 35:45[SPEAKER_01]: However, we are now back to what is a catch.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_01]: And this is driving me up a goddamn wall because we're doing those A-likely here, right?
- 35:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're talking about it as A-likely.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_01]: Is that a likely caught effectively the game winning touchdown with like two minutes to play?
- 36:05[SPEAKER_01]: E to two steps and all four steps to me.
- 36:10[SPEAKER_01]: It was, I mean, I watched this thing more than the Zabriter film, trust me.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_01]: It was, you know, Zabriter catch, one foot down, second foot down, you have the ball in the end zone.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: That should be a touchdown.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_01]: But now you're required to make the football move in the end zone, which is the, because the broadcast was saying he needed a confirmatory third foot as a football move in the end zone.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_01]: But like it's good for confirmatory, is that a word?
- 36:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, I don't know.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_01]: I made that up.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just trying to.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't know if you're taking it from them.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: What?
- 36:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like, so the Tush push.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_01]: What's the confirmatory?
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what's your football move into the end zone after you just get your ass smashed across the goal line?
- 37:00[SPEAKER_01]: or, you know what I mean, like, does that make sense?
- 37:03[SPEAKER_01]: And the second that someone breaks the plane with the football, it's a touchdown.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_01]: And this catch was almost identical to a Steelers catch against the Packers.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, I think it was like October 25th.
- 37:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's the Aaron Rodgers Steelers game.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_01]: That one was ruled a touchdown.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_01]: And so you ball this together into,
- 37:27[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go back to Sunday Night Football last week with the commanders and the Broncos.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_01]: You had Phantom Holding and an incorrect intentional grounding in a stand-alone game.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go to Lions Cowboys.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_01]: You had the OPI on Ferguson that completely changed the course of that game.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go to Colts Texans.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_01]: You had awful, awful calls in that game.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_01]: and back to back bad calls and then you weren't sure if a ball was going between the uprights and we can rant Albert every week until we're blue in the face but like and we do kind of but
- 38:02[SPEAKER_01]: This is changing playoff seating.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's affecting wins and losses in dramatic ways, and here's where I'm gonna leave it, okay?
- 38:11[SPEAKER_01]: Every week, you get a tweet from the NFL going, parody, parody, parody, it's an all time great.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_01]: Every game is close, but you're doing nothing to fix the thing that can turn the game on a razor's edge.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_01]: So games are closer than ever.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: Officials have to be better than ever.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_01]: They're not.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the works.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_02]: It's just awesome.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_00]: We have a better view of them than we ever had before.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_00]: And like I do think like there's an element of, and now again, like I don't need to go through my whole thing from last week, but like I do think it's time to tear the whole thing down to the studs and to start over.
- 38:43[SPEAKER_00]: And like it's, it's at the point now it's gotten so tangled up with all the different technology and all the rules changes and all the points of emphasis that at this point, like I just feel like it does legitimately feel like,
- 38:56[SPEAKER_00]: It makes, it feels like they are in their own heads, you know what, and the officials are sitting there worried about like not just getting to call right, but what does New York think and what does the general public thinking what is this going to look like on Monday and it's like all these things other than just getting the call right.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_00]: And you have a, I, I, the moment for me was, I think it was last night during the Texas Chiefs game, where replay assist jumped in and changed the call and then changed it back, which one was that?
- 39:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, there was a call where they said like replay assist has called in and whatever corrected this and then like oh wait a minute replay assist called that it's like alright like what does it's like a hotline like you know I just like I like there has to be a more efficient way to do it and
- 39:50[SPEAKER_00]: I say this like I think it's important and you got you know I've been in a evangelist for the sky judge, but I think that's the first step to all of this.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_00]: That person has to be in the stadium.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_00]: It can't be from fricking New York.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you know, she doesn't work.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_00]: The level of trust the public has on it is low.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_00]: It feels to me like a money
- 40:19[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I just, I like, I think, you know, I think back to, um, you know, it's funny.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_00]: It's like when, when, um, what map of Trisha became the offensive coordinator in New England, right?
- 40:32[SPEAKER_00]: I think I, I remember with Patricia and Judge, and what those guys would tell you about what they did, not obviously didn't work, but they would tell, they would tell you about what they were doing there was,
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: When Tom Brady was a quarterback of the Patriots, the offense got so tangled up because they kept adding and adding and adding and never subtracting everything that it was hard to translate what the offense was to a normal college kid who was coming out, right?
- 40:59[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_00]: Why they always need to better in receivers because, well, this doesn't work for a 22 year old who's coming out of a spread offense, it's just like he's not gonna be able to grasp it.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_00]: So we need to have 27 year old receivers here, which is great when you have Brady
- 41:16[SPEAKER_00]: Now all of a sudden, it's like, all right, well, how do we make this work?
- 41:19[SPEAKER_00]: And so they went through the effort to untangle the offense.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_00]: And it was to make it more user-friendly so that people who actually had to take what they were being taught and apply it would have an easier time doing that.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like with the referees is the same thing.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's like you've kept tangling it up, entangling it up, entangling it up, entangling it up,
- 41:40[SPEAKER_00]: And now, you've made it so difficult for the people that are trying to apply it, that what you're getting is an absolute mess, a national television, and it's because again, like the league chases
- 41:53[SPEAKER_00]: like they don't get in front of problems, they chase problems, you know what I mean?
- 41:57[SPEAKER_00]: They're not proactive about finding where there's going to be a problem and solving it.
- 42:01[SPEAKER_00]: They are reactive when something happens, like just going fix it, right?
- 42:06[SPEAKER_00]: And so like I think what you have here is an officiating situation where it's like, we've patched this whole, we've patched that whole, but like other, you know, it's like the
- 42:21[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I think this is going to take like to fix this, I don't even mind the officials themselves.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think to fix this, because of all the new technology, because of all the points of emphasis, because of all of the, you know, the new rules and the, the, the, the, the the element of players safety and the competition committee having their hands on everything, I think it's time to take a hard look at the entire thing and say, okay, we have this technology, we have this set of rules that we're trying to implement.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_00]: How do we make this as efficient as we possibly can?
- 42:54[SPEAKER_00]: Instead of like every time we get a new technology treating it like a toy, you know what I mean?
- 42:59[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, like, for example, the virtual measurement.
- 43:02[SPEAKER_00]: Has that really helped anything?
- 43:04[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 43:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 43:06[SPEAKER_00]: Now when they first did it, I was like, oh, wow, like they're finally implementing technology that tennis had 10 years ago, but I don't really feel like that's added anything.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_01]: No, I go back and I think about I was reading something from a Supreme Court just as the other day that made me interested and I think that this should form the basis of the new NFL rulebook because you write it's it's like the Patriots offense it needs to be blown up and it needs we need to start from square one because the game is different it's just different than it was when when we created it right and the Supreme Court just said like we don't write certain liberties.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_01]: into the constitution like for example like you can raise your kid how you want to raise them right and uh we don't write that into the constitution because it's so obvious that literally every almost everybody in the country would agree with you.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_01]: That needs to be
- 44:03[SPEAKER_01]: the basis of the new NFL rule book, and it needs to be, it's one of those things where it's like, okay, if I have to think nine levels of Chinese checker moves to get to where I want to get to, it's not a call.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_01]: Just don't make it.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_01]: Just back yourself out of the game.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_01]: and let them play.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_01]: How good was, remember the first quarter that's Super Bowl, where there was a bad call right away at Chief Seagulls, and then there was a bad make-up call, and everyone's sitting there like, oh my god, and then we didn't see anything again.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think for like another two quarters.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_01]: And that's how it should be.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, there is holding on every play.
- 44:40[SPEAKER_01]: Unless everyone in America can see it,
- 44:43[SPEAKER_01]: and point at it on the TV and say that shouldn't happen, you know, that needs to be your standard otherwise just let people play let them get away with it it's a physical game and I know that took up all the air of
- 44:55[SPEAKER_01]: Steelers Ravens, but it is what it is.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_01]: Baltimore, um, yes, they had other opportunities.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_01]: I thought they're got to have it play calling in this game was atrocious, third short, fourth and short, that has to be better, but at the same time, like we can't come in here, be talking about officials every week.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's just embarrassing.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's just awesome.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yeah, and I still think like the
- 45:20[SPEAKER_00]: The same thing we were talking about with my homes like there's just something fundamentally doesn't look the same with Lamar in that offense and I don't know what it is I mean your older Lamar's not really want to run right now and any any did make some plays with his likes in this game.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying he didn't but
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's different than a fully healthy Lamar, right?
- 45:38[SPEAKER_00]: It doesn't look the same.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_00]: He's just like the accumulation of injuries now.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_00]: He had the hamstring, then there's the ankle last week and he's missing practice time.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_00]: They just don't look as sharp.
- 45:48[SPEAKER_00]: And there is a cost, I think, to missing practice time when you get on the year, especially when you have whatever it was, wherever the amount of weeks was that he was on the shelf before that, four or five, six weeks, whatever it was.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like you're going to feel like losing that time on task, where you're out there on the practice field.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_00]: And so Pam, like the others thought maybe this would be our transition into the Do another game.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_00]: The tors wide open for the Bengals.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_01]: And now.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_01]: And let's so let's get to that.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_01]: Now I think it's impossible, yeah.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's impossible, but you make a good point that I want to kind of piggyback off.
- 46:28[SPEAKER_01]: So the bill's beat the Bengals 3934.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_01]: This game was gorgeous, right?
- 46:32[SPEAKER_01]: Snow.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's everything you want.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think that anytime you see the elements like that, you have to favor Buffalo because of Josh Allen's legs.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_01]: And can I say something nice about an honor really quick?
- 46:46[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for Tutary Pagoo.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_00]: for building an open air stadium.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_00]: I know that they're going to see if those are partially open air, right?
- 46:55[SPEAKER_01]: It's not fully open.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 46:56[SPEAKER_00]: The stands are covered, but you'll still have the snow coming down.
- 46:59[SPEAKER_00]: It's like a good good good.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_00]: You see the Tottenham's the soccer stadium where the NFL is an investor and they play games there.
- 47:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's built like that.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_00]: So there's a canopy around it around the stands, but open air is still an open air stadium.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_00]: It also has natural grass, which the current
- 47:19[SPEAKER_00]: Um, same name, I'm our stadium now, I'm our stadium in the new place, but I, I will give them credit.
- 47:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like, they're, like, everyone else is building a dome, Cleveland building a dome, Chicago is building a dome, Washington is building a dome.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_00]: Most of these domes are fixed roof.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_00]: I think Denver is going to have a retractable roof because he's still Walton's, and this is like throwing a roll of quarters at, as a problem for them.
- 47:48[SPEAKER_00]: uh... but uh... you know i i think it's it got him going to miss it when in ten years like you know it's seventy percent of a football is played on on plastic grass there's no doubt you know like his games like this like that was awesome
- 48:10[SPEAKER_01]: you're you're absolutely right.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's no doubt about it.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I go green bay was awesome for the same reason, but I know it really was.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_01]: But you said that the door was wide open for the bangles, the doors wide open for the bills now, because let's look at the AFC play out here.
- 48:24[SPEAKER_00]: They come.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_00]: And this is why you don't give up on a team in November.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_01]: Outside of
- 48:32[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, so the quarterbacks that Buffalo would have to face theoretically, I mean, you start if the playoff started today, they have Pittsburgh in the first round at Pittsburgh, and then you would get, well, it would depend, but you, you might get, let's see New England.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: Um, again, I mean, it depends on how the, this shakes out, but I mean, you would be playing New England for the third time, you'd be playing, you know, this game against Pittsburgh at Pittsburgh.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_01]: If you can't beat Aaron Rogers at this point at this stage in his career, then you don't deserve to go.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm just saying, if you look at this collection of teams,
- 49:15[SPEAKER_01]: there's no excuse at this point really I mean like and I hate to be that guy but this is your year this is absolutely unequivocally your your your shot my homes is out burrows out memoirs out like you know let's go I look at the finishing kick that they've had this is like this is so this to me
- 49:38[SPEAKER_00]: So, would you agree that the buck and ear Steelers and bangles are good teams?
- 49:44[SPEAKER_00]: I like to take the racers out of it.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_00]: They're pretty good teams.
- 49:48[SPEAKER_01]: They're like your buck and ear Steelers.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_01]: So they're like your fifth team.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_01]: They're like your 14th, 15th and 18th best teams.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_00]: Pretty good teams, right?
- 49:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 50:00[SPEAKER_00]: So in the last four weeks,
- 50:02[SPEAKER_00]: uh... against the box they were down twenty six twenty one from that point forward they have scored them twenty three six against the dealers they were down seven to three and a half they have scored them twenty three nothing after that and then yesterday down twenty eight to eighteen midway through the fourth quarter they have scored them twenty one to six yeah so twenty three six twenty three nothing twenty one six against three good teams to close them out
- 50:31[SPEAKER_00]: that shows to me like a quality that they weren't showing earlier in the year.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, again, you don't know the way that injury lock is going to swing towards the end of the year.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_00]: But this is a team that's going to potentially get it all over back.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_00]: This is a team that was without Joey Bosa yesterday.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_00]: This is a team that's had the issue with key on Coleman.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and we'll see where that winds up, landing for them.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_00]: They had they they just got Dalton
- 51:00[SPEAKER_00]: like I think that's what people want to pay attention to.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's like they've had all these moving parts and they were able to make huge plays on defense yesterday picked off Burrow twice on consecutive throws that turned that game.
- 51:13[SPEAKER_00]: It started to look like a team that's got a knack and that is playing with some urgency.
- 51:18[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I don't know, I mean, like they may wind up, it's going to be tough for them to catch the Patriots and the East, because even if they beat them next week, I think the Patriots would still have the tiebreaker if they wound up, like if the Patriots lost again, but really, I mean, like Buffalo should get to 13 wins if they can win a new angle next week, because they've got the Eagles on the 28th, which I think they can win that game at home, and then other than that, the Browns and the Jets.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the only issue for me with them is like they're going to have to go in the road now if they don't win the division and look I mean it looks like they I mean we'll see right we'll see what New England has in the tank from here on out, but man, I mean what a what about I mean
- 52:09[SPEAKER_01]: the burrow thing.
- 52:10[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not going to go out there and kill him because he know he played I'm balancing played really well like he's he made some phenomenal throws in that game.
- 52:19[SPEAKER_01]: Okay if you got you got a guy tip in the ball at the line of scrimmage and then picking it off.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_01]: It's like is that really on the quarterback?
- 52:25[SPEAKER_00]: That was weird.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like that was the I think that was the Benford one, right?
- 52:29[SPEAKER_00]: Like Benford comes in like again and just got his hands up at the right time.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's like one of those were almost stuck to his hands, you know?
- 52:35[SPEAKER_00]: And the
- 52:39[SPEAKER_01]: and happen as a like I don't know I don't look at I don't look at these as I don't look at these as like fundamental problems like there was Joe had some bad luck in that game for sure yeah and then he goes out and that throw that he made to uh chase brown just like and it was a great catch by chase brown I think that's something that not a lot of people taught not enough people talk about is like the um
- 53:06[SPEAKER_01]: the fact that like we we go all in on quarterbacks in these cold weather games, but it's a lot on your receivers because a lot of check down passes and cold weather and getting yards after the catch and getting banged up, but I mean, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, that's, that's where like a, I feel like T Higgins is such a wide, oh, I've been for this.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_00]: that goes into the snow, just because of his size.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_00]: You want to mean where it's like, all right, we're going to have you run a bunch of six-yard curls.
- 53:34[SPEAKER_00]: And it's tough to keep up with the guy of that size when you're doing that over and over and over again.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_00]: That's sort of an environment where they're stopping and going and the defense of Baxter is going to be
- 53:46[SPEAKER_01]: slipping all over the place and the ball is slippery too right so the ball might slip out of your hands a little bit won't when the guy's got like the catch radius of shack you know I mean like you're you're probably gonna be okay you know yeah um i mean and maybe Zack Taylor has some thoughts again i mean buffalo or but since I was up in this game you know and they had a chance to take control that game before the benford pick six would you
- 54:16[SPEAKER_01]: would you stick to the ground game would you try to milk the clock a little bit more would you try to tire out buffalo I don't know I don't know the answer to that I mean if you on the flip side if you're out golden do you run blitz Josh Allen which he did went the on the on the on the
- 54:31[SPEAKER_01]: What was it like a 60 how long was the touchdown run 60 60 some yards whatever it was I mean, so I don't know I think that there's always going to be those questions that that you have back, but I will say this I'm not going to get caught in that trap of picking the Bengals
- 54:48[SPEAKER_01]: to go to the Super Bowl again next year.
- 54:51[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't do it this year, but I think I had them winning 10 games.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_01]: They're in Steelers 8 9 and 8 category for me now.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_01]: I just can't trust this team.
- 54:59[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder what they're going to do this offseason.
- 55:00[SPEAKER_01]: This is going to be a really, really interesting offseason for Cincinnati.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think we just rebuild in the defense.
- 55:07[SPEAKER_00]: I do think like Algo and this game notwithstanding had been better the couple weeks.
- 55:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, defense has been improving.
- 55:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 55:15[SPEAKER_00]: The defense had been had been had improved over the weeks coming into this one.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_00]: This was probably a step back.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, Buffalo, I think is I feel.
- 55:25[SPEAKER_00]: I feel really good about my suitable pack, which I was bills ran as before the year.
- 55:30[SPEAKER_00]: I believe I stuck with it mid-season and like I think I think I might be good.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know a lot of some I got one of those right, but I think I might be good on this one.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_02]: Damn, that's good.
- 55:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_01]: Bill's Rams is good.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_01]: I Bill's Eagles.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_00]: Bill's Rams is a great Super Bowl.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_01]: Bill's Rams would be a phenomenal Super Bowl.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the Rams would win.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_01]: Um, anyway, let's, uh, let's get going.
- 55:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think the two best teams and only might be in the NFC West.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with you.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_01]: So let's buzz through the rest of these.
- 56:02[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, the one last big one here, and then we'll kind of get into our fast minute here.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_01]: Just the fact that, I mean, the Jaguar's beat to Colts 36 to 19, they moved to nine and four.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_01]: The Colts are down to eight and five and Daniel Jones is lost for the season.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_01]: This is heartbreaking for Daniel Jones.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_01]: I feel so bad.
- 56:20[SPEAKER_01]: This is just one of those things that sucks.
- 56:22[SPEAKER_01]: They started to revive his career in Indianapolis.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_01]: He was on a one-year deal.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_00]: What do you do with him now?
- 56:28[SPEAKER_00]: Do you tag him?
- 56:30[SPEAKER_00]: The tags gonna be around like, I looked it up last night.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_00]: The tag projects, you know, all the sites that do this.
- 56:34[SPEAKER_00]: I think it might maybe spot track.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_00]: I was looking at, but it, I think the tag projects like 46.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_01]: He's not gonna be back until within the killease.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_01]: Is he even gonna be back?
- 56:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sorry, the regular season.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_00]: Cousins wise, like, so when did Cousins get hurt?
- 56:51[SPEAKER_00]: Because it didn't look anything like, it took Cousins and Rodgers like, that's the thing is, like, Cousins was what?
- 56:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think Cousins got hurt in November.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_00]: And like, cousins was back.
- 57:04[SPEAKER_00]: Now, yeah, I mean, and cousins isn't as reliant on as athleticism as Jones is.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 57:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's that's my, that's my concern.
- 57:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is Ricky one for the cult.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_00]: Well, the other thing is then do you let him go to free agency and roll the dice that way, thinking there probably won't be a market for, but then do you do poison the relationship?
- 57:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like because this is one of those like go see what you can get and come back to a situation where you risk losing him.
- 57:36[SPEAKER_00]: It like this becomes really complicated for the cults I think in March, you know.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the veteran quarterback market because, um, you know, we, I think it was, uh, rap sheep before the game said that the Vikings are going to bring in veteran competition for JJ McCarthy.
- 57:54[SPEAKER_01]: So you have veteran quarterback needed there.
- 57:57[SPEAKER_01]: You've veteran quarterback needed in an in an inapolis.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_01]: You have veteran quarterback needed in, you know, maybe Atlanta, uh, because we don't know how, how soon Michael Panics is going to get healthy.
- 58:08[SPEAKER_01]: All of
- 58:09[SPEAKER_01]: That challenge just made himself like 40 million dollars.
- 58:13[SPEAKER_01]: Didn't he say to be your deal to your deal?
- 58:16[SPEAKER_00]: That was I just that was like one of the sneaky smartest things any team did.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 58:22[SPEAKER_00]: Was was the nine or sign of I think it was a two year six million dollar deal.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_00]: And that was really brilliant.
- 58:29[SPEAKER_00]: So now not only is he under contract for next year, but whoever gets him.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_00]: is getting him for pennies on the dollar.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'll look up what the number is for next year hold on.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_00]: I got the cap sheets I think here, but like to me like that was, I mean, God to the Niners looks smart to do that, you know?
- 58:45[SPEAKER_00]: Because now, I mean, again, like the value that you get if you're the Niners and giving it to, yeah, he's under contract next year.
- 58:53[SPEAKER_00]: The cash value of his contract for next year is $4.6 million.
- 59:01[SPEAKER_00]: So like for it's even like a Minnesota or an Arizona or you know what I mean like where Jacobi Brissette's gonna make like 30 billion dollars next year too.
- 59:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so like you get Mac at that number, and that gives you leverage if you want to negotiate something on your terms.
- 59:19[SPEAKER_01]: So it's a tradable contract, too.
- 59:21[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if I were Kyle Shannon, I wouldn't get rid of it.
- 59:24[SPEAKER_00]: But this is like this, this is why smart teams, you know, this is how smart teams win.
- 59:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's stuff like that, you know what I mean?
- 59:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's like you're seeing a second and third move ahead of time.
- 59:34[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, Mac Jones is going to have some value, unbelievable.
- 59:38[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think did yesterday change anything on the Jaguar's for you?
- 59:42[SPEAKER_01]: No, uh, I love Riley Leonard as a Notre Dame fan, but, uh, you know, that's not, uh, and he actually, I will say this.
- 59:52[SPEAKER_01]: Get some really good moments in that game.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, he had like a really cool touchdown pass that was brought back, I think, due to OPI, but it was one where he like changed all the protections, you know, he switched all the calls around.
- 1:00:04[SPEAKER_01]: He's an interesting guy, like, I'm gonna have fun watching him.
- 1:00:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm gonna fun watching him.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_00]: I like him.
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I remember, so I don't know if you remember the first drive of the national championship game last year.
- 1:00:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a 18 play.
- 1:00:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but they almost used him like T bow.
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_00]: You don't mean like on that drive.
- 1:00:19[SPEAKER_00]: If you remember, and I remember watching that drive, I was in the stadium for that.
- 1:00:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and I remember watching that drive and being like,
- 1:00:26[SPEAKER_00]: Alright, like, that worked for that, that worked now, but like, they can't play the whole game that way.
- 1:00:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and I sort of like wonder, because he was, I think when he was at Duke, he was sort of used that way too.
- 1:00:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's where some of the comparisons, there's the obvious comparison to Daniel Jones.
- 1:00:43[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:00:44[SPEAKER_00]: Because he is, they both want to do.
- 1:00:46[SPEAKER_00]: but like there was that like kind of tall smart athletic like maybe not the most gifted passer in the world but has the intangibles and is tough and you know can run as good enough athlete to run.
- 1:01:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think there's something there.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't know, like, based on the passer he was in college, I just don't know if you're going to be able to bring it out and him as a rookie and bring it out and him fast enough to maintain a spot in the FC playoff picture.
- 1:01:15[SPEAKER_00]: But the FC playoff picture is such a mess.
- 1:01:17[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I guess you can't rule anything out.
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we'll see.
- 1:01:21[SPEAKER_00]: Who do they happen?
- 1:01:22[SPEAKER_00]: But that's the other things like who they have.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_00]: So, oh.
- 1:01:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I did this house like that.
- 1:01:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it might be over for them.
- 1:01:30[SPEAKER_00]: See, at Seattle, San Francisco, Jacksonville, had Houston.
- 1:01:33[SPEAKER_01]: That would take an all-time, I mean, you know, that's, uh, I mean, my god.
- 1:01:40[SPEAKER_00]: They've lost three in a row.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_00]: They might finish the season with seven straight losses.
- 1:01:44[SPEAKER_00]: I know.
- 1:01:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like I feel terrible for the guys there too, because that's not reflective on the other kind of season they've had, you know.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_00]: But.
- 1:01:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's a that's a tough tough finish.
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_01]: Good for the Jaguars though.
- 1:01:58[SPEAKER_01]: Trevor Lawrence was phenomenal in this game.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_01]: He really was at this was the Trevor Lawrence that I thought I was getting at a Clemson.
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_01]: He even had like 3-4-87 from Brian Thomas which you know it's not exactly what you want but it's better than what you've been getting you know and so I think that that was
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_00]: Devin Lloyd was a monster in this kit like Campanali has just changed the entire course of this defense I mean Josh Allen has the sack, you know, in the end zone and, you know There are campanali's really brought like a They really buy into like you can tell with how fast they play that like they really buy into what campanali is is doing what's them and Are they capable of wanting a playoff game?
- 1:02:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I think so.
- 1:02:51[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, especially, they have, I mean, outside turnover performances this year.
- 1:02:56[SPEAKER_00]: That you don't need the quarterback to be Superman based on how they're constructed, but he can be.
- 1:03:03[SPEAKER_00]: And he's not so much big game experience over the course of his football life.
- 1:03:08[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean, going back to like, there's a guy who had the spotlight on him when he was a 14-year-old kid.
- 1:03:13[SPEAKER_00]: you know, so you would think like it's almost like the chidor thing like where it's like this kid's not going to shrink to it because it's been like sort of the spot like he's played under his whole life.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_00]: Sure.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they're going to be an interesting I mean whether or not they win the division determines whether or not they have a home game to play off, which you know could determine a lot as far as how far they go, but
- 1:03:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't know, if I liked them more than Houston, but they've grown on me a bunch.
- 1:03:52[SPEAKER_01]: Well, let's buzz through Albert here just to cut by the way.
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't like to apologize because I know nobody thinks that I respect the Jaguars after one of my tweets last night, which is like I said like that's Denver and New England are alone atop the F.C.
- 1:04:09[SPEAKER_00]: at 11 and two and then you had Buffalo was next at nine and four.
- 1:04:14[SPEAKER_00]: and I forgot to include Jacksonville as a 9 and 14.
- 1:04:17[SPEAKER_00]: So my sincere apologies to everybody and do all and this round of areas for my omission of the Jaguar as who filled with me like the ultimate.
- 1:04:27[SPEAKER_00]: That's like the ultimate Roddy Dangerfield fan base.
- 1:04:30[SPEAKER_00]: So you just fuel into them when you do stuff like that.
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_01]: You know what though all these teams are trying on their 2015 Carolina Panther outfits where they're just like
- 1:04:38[SPEAKER_01]: The media doesn't respect us and then you're going to go get smacked around in the playoffs and so I'm not saying this about Jacksonville in particular, but like When you cover when you try to cover all 32 teams the no one in the media is talking about us thing is so exhausting like yeah and and you know
- 1:04:57[SPEAKER_01]: Like, Mike Tureko last night at the end of the Chiefs game, uh, he's just like, you know, uh, I haven't heard any of this from the national media, but the Texans are pretty good.
- 1:05:05[SPEAKER_01]: What are you reading, Mike?
- 1:05:07[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I love my- I love my- What are you reading?
- 1:05:09[SPEAKER_00]: I love Mike, but I-
- 1:05:12[SPEAKER_00]: It's, it is hilarious when national media criticizes national media for like all the national media is not paying attention to this.
- 1:05:19[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you can do something about that.
- 1:05:22[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you are the best.
- 1:05:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, Ben, the majority of the broadcast breaking down to meco Ryan's and Matt Burke's defense.
- 1:05:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:05:29[SPEAKER_01]: Talk about Frank Ross, special teams coordinator.
- 1:05:31[SPEAKER_01]: one of the best special teams coordinators in the NFL, you know, invite the invite the listener in.
- 1:05:38[SPEAKER_01]: I've done it, so don't tell me I'm not doing my job.
- 1:05:41[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, uh, let's just buy to the rest of the C Hawks 37 Falcons 9 C Hawks are 10 and 3, number one seed.
- 1:05:48[SPEAKER_01]: in the AFC, it's probably good by time for this iteration of the Falcons, I would say.
- 1:05:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that it does feel like this could get that native after the year now.
- 1:06:00[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm like that native in every way and you know.
- 1:06:04[SPEAKER_00]: It's, I'm surprised that they're not better, um, the results are the results, and I mean, that's a, that's, I'm counting them up seven losses and eight games now.
- 1:06:18[SPEAKER_00]: They're only when was over a Saints team that's going to be picking in the top five.
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_00]: Um, they're going to get a desperate Tampa team on Thursday night, uh, the Tampa team that's got to need that win in a very bad way.
- 1:06:31[SPEAKER_00]: They've got a couple of one game, one of the games down the stretch with the Cardinals and the Saints still on there.
- 1:06:35[SPEAKER_00]: They also play the Rams, but, um, doesn't feel like doesn't feel like there's, like, they're like, like, they're going to be able to avoid major changes.
- 1:06:46[SPEAKER_01]: They're also don't have, they also don't have their first round pick.
- 1:06:50[SPEAKER_02]: the ramps are going to have like the number seven pick.
- 1:06:54[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, the draft.
- 1:06:54[SPEAKER_02]: Good.
- 1:06:55[SPEAKER_02]: God.
- 1:06:55[SPEAKER_02]: What are we doing?
- 1:06:57[SPEAKER_01]: Titans 31 Browns 29.
- 1:07:01[SPEAKER_01]: Should your Sanders cooked in this one, man.
- 1:07:03[SPEAKER_00]: It looked good, man.
- 1:07:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like I really good.
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I mean, I, I know caveats, like he looked like he handled this situation while he played from behind, which I think is a big box for for young quarterbacks to check.
- 1:07:18[SPEAKER_00]: Um, like, I should, and I, again, like, there's that whole thing about, like, how comfortable he looks in the biggest moments, and that certainly was there.
- 1:07:25[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you know, I thought all the way around, you like, even the touchdown throw, um, the Harold Fanon to, to put them in position to tie it.
- 1:07:37[SPEAKER_00]: We can talk about the conversion if you want, but, um, all the way around, I think, you know, he's earned now.
- 1:07:43[SPEAKER_00]: All right, like we're going to let you play for the next month.
- 1:07:46[SPEAKER_00]: Like this has gone beyond to me.
- 1:07:48[SPEAKER_00]: I think before it was like you have to keep burning your opportunities.
- 1:07:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think now you give the leeway where even if he has a bad month you stick with them and you give them the next month.
- 1:07:57[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and like you see where it is at the end of the month.
- 1:08:00[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, I, I'll give him credit too because
- 1:08:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know, for all the crap that goes on around him, some of his self-created, you know, but I, like, he's backing it up with his play now, you know, so you think you have to give him credit for that.
- 1:08:20[SPEAKER_01]: Got a good old fashion.
- 1:08:21[SPEAKER_00]: And the Titans won too, which we should give Mike McCoy credit, that is the first game.
- 1:08:27[SPEAKER_00]: one by an interim coach this year.
- 1:08:29[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, good job, Mike.
- 1:08:31[SPEAKER_01]: Go ahead.
- 1:08:32[SPEAKER_01]: They were fired up in this one.
- 1:08:33[SPEAKER_01]: I love that they all did the Shader Sanders watch celebration after a turnover and a little bit of heat between Jeffrey Simmons and the Browns quarterback.
- 1:08:43[SPEAKER_01]: Very quickly.
- 1:08:45[SPEAKER_01]: I, because I don't want to spend too much time on this one, but, I mean, there's been a lot of outrage now about taking Shidorah off the field for the two-point conversion.
- 1:08:55[SPEAKER_01]: If Judgins had just flipped the ball, that was open.
- 1:08:59[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:08:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it was a touchdown, or a two-point conversion, it was good.
- 1:09:03[SPEAKER_01]: But do you think that there's an element of Stefansky that's just like, I know I will get a good job.
- 1:09:11[SPEAKER_01]: and I don't want to deal with this.
- 1:09:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like, do you think that, like maybe it's like, hey, it's time for a gap year.
- 1:09:19[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 1:09:20[SPEAKER_01]: We got to show them lots and come back.
- 1:09:22[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I just don't want to deal with any of this right now.
- 1:09:25[SPEAKER_00]: It's possible.
- 1:09:26[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think you get hired right away.
- 1:09:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I think the giants might hire him.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I think there'd be opportunity for him right away.
- 1:09:37[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's still really well thought of
- 1:09:42[SPEAKER_00]: The one thing that would be really frustrating for me if I were a coach there is you've been trying to make decisions for football reasons and no one will accept them.
- 1:09:52[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 1:09:53[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I can tell you just knowing the amount of people that I know there that the quarterback situation was handled this year over the last six, seven, eight months in a way that was based solely on how the guys were performing in practice, solely in how ready the guys were to play.
- 1:10:10[SPEAKER_00]: And like I would go back to like the beginning there with Dylan Gabriel Dylan Gabriel played six college season started three different schools played in three different major conferences like all of that you know what I mean like so.
- 1:10:24[SPEAKER_00]: I, like, it makes them look bad now because you do are played really well.
- 1:10:29[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 1:10:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like in this particular game, we'll see what it looks like next week, but if you're Kevin and you are making all of these decisions for football reasons, and you've made a lot of other decisions over the years for football reasons.
- 1:10:42[SPEAKER_00]: And they're constantly second-guess this way and everything turns into a circus.
- 1:10:46[SPEAKER_00]: Would you be sick of it?
- 1:10:48[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, 100%.
- 1:10:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know?
- 1:10:51[SPEAKER_01]: So I would want to be, I would want to be so out of there.
- 1:10:55[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, and I don't know what they're going to do because I, I felt all along like the Haslam's really want to really like the structure that they have, right?
- 1:11:05[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and it took them a decade to get the structure that they had with Defanski and with Andrew Barry, and then, you know, with Paul Deepadesta, sort of the over the top guys, the Chief Strategy Officer.
- 1:11:19[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, I don't know.
- 1:11:22[SPEAKER_01]: And Paul's not there.
- 1:11:23[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I don't know.
- 1:11:25[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't know.
- 1:11:26[SPEAKER_00]: With deep industrial gone and no plan to replace him, is this a natural point for them to evaluate everything.
- 1:11:35[SPEAKER_00]: Again, like I think that they like the guys that they have enough, like they took them so long to get that right.
- 1:11:41[SPEAKER_00]: And they still think those guys are really sharp.
- 1:11:43[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that they want to go forward with them,
- 1:11:49[SPEAKER_00]: Does this just become kind of like, you know what, like, this really hasn't worked for either or I still ask a couple of years, so maybe it's just time.
- 1:11:56[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 1:11:57[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 1:11:58[SPEAKER_01]: Let's wrap it up here out, but we got the Vikings 31 commanders nothing.
- 1:12:04[SPEAKER_00]: Nightmare every year.
- 1:12:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, just a flat out nightmare and a nice get off the bucket game for JJ McCarthy 16 to 23, 16 to 23, 163 yards and three touchdowns.
- 1:12:18[SPEAKER_01]: This isn't perfect, but we'll see how we'll see how he rolls into.
- 1:12:23[SPEAKER_01]: Rolls into next week.
- 1:12:25[SPEAKER_01]: Dolphins 34 jets 10 the Dolphins move up to six and seven playoff chances now at about 13% for Miami Which I think might be Daniel good for him.
- 1:12:35[SPEAKER_00]: Which is a chance to have better chances than the chiefs then?
- 1:12:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't I don't have the like the Okay, because I thought I saw the chiefs in 11 and that would be Yeah, let's see here postseason probabilities
- 1:12:52[SPEAKER_01]: But so the dolphins have, oh, they're still, what is Joe Shad was saying that they're, they were like an 11% chance.
- 1:13:03[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, you know what, I think they need a Houston to lose last night.
- 1:13:06[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I think that might have been it.
- 1:13:08[SPEAKER_00]: Because, all right, so like the dolphins have the Steelers, the bangles, the box, and that's not easy.
- 1:13:14[SPEAKER_00]: So I think this is sort of where the rubber meets the road for them.
- 1:13:17[SPEAKER_00]: We've talked for a couple of weeks now but their chance to get 500, get to 500,
- 1:13:22[SPEAKER_00]: at Pittsburgh, which becomes like a really big game now in the AFC, right?
- 1:13:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:13:28[SPEAKER_00]: And, um...
- 1:13:31[SPEAKER_00]: And I can see them going in there and winning that.
- 1:13:33[SPEAKER_00]: You know what's amazing about it, too, is like, I think you are the one that kind of hit me to this.
- 1:13:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I put something in my column yesterday, so thank you for the content.
- 1:13:43[SPEAKER_00]: But like, two is like, they've sort of taken the ball out of two as hands.
- 1:13:47[SPEAKER_00]: And this is what we like, Mike winning his way.
- 1:13:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I looked it up here and I have it.
- 1:13:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just kind of thumbing through my column here where I had this.
- 1:13:55[SPEAKER_00]: But so over the last six games, the dolphins are five and one, right?
- 1:14:00[SPEAKER_00]: Two as yardage, 205, 261, 173, 171, 157, 127.
- 1:14:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 1:14:04[SPEAKER_00]: The 261 was the loss.
- 1:14:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:14:09[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 1:14:10[SPEAKER_00]: Over those, over the last four games, he's thrown the ball 21, 20, 23 and 21 times.
- 1:14:16[SPEAKER_00]: And the dolphins rushing yards over those six games, 141, 87, 197, 169, 164, 239, the 87 is the loss.
- 1:14:27[SPEAKER_00]: So this is like a team is sort of I think, been reimagined on the fly.
- 1:14:31[SPEAKER_00]: They're for no, since, you know, walkie.
- 1:14:34[SPEAKER_00]: And I do think, like, look,
- 1:14:37[SPEAKER_00]: Chris Greer is a really good guy who engendered a lot of loyalty in that building and like has made a great impact on a lot of people.
- 1:14:45[SPEAKER_00]: There have been through there, but I do think like the move on the general manager coming out on like on Halloween when they when they fire the GM, I think that created a natural sense of urgency in that building like, oh crap, like all of our jobs are on the line now.
- 1:15:01[SPEAKER_00]: And they have a lot of sense.
- 1:15:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:15:05[SPEAKER_01]: Well, see what happens there.
- 1:15:07[SPEAKER_01]: Two more quickly, the Rams 45 Cardinal 17.
- 1:15:10[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think we have to go over anything here outside of the fact that the Rams are a freaking wagon.
- 1:15:16[SPEAKER_01]: And that Albert, I think that there a guy is in the bottom of this roster.
- 1:15:20[SPEAKER_01]: like I used Jordan Whittington or Blake Quorum and it's an example of me Blake Quorum at 120 rushing yards in this game and he's not exactly a hidden guy but maybe uh I mean the rookie tight end or Whittington I think that there are guys way down at the bottom of that depth chart that would be one in one a players on other rosters and I think that they have another gear that they're just gonna crush everybody with rosters 249 yes yeah
- 1:15:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they're not just, they, they rushed for $2.99.
- 1:15:53[SPEAKER_00]: They threw for $2.81.
- 1:15:54[SPEAKER_00]: Staffers quarterback radio is $1.31.2.
- 1:15:59[SPEAKER_00]: like this game was over early.
- 1:16:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think that some of the cardinals numbers are inflated, right?
- 1:16:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like by some empty calories at the end of the game.
- 1:16:07[SPEAKER_00]: I believe, right?
- 1:16:09[SPEAKER_00]: But there was a point where the like all the relevant stats you already first down is all that different stuff was so out of whack.
- 1:16:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, they had I think they'd run and I'm going to look it up here.
- 1:16:20[SPEAKER_00]: because this to me was one of the most impressive stats, because this, yeah, so one offensive snap into the fourth quarter, the Rams had 45 points, 493 yards and 28 first downs.
- 1:16:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 1:16:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's, again, like the Rams should be the favorite to win the Super Bowl now.
- 1:16:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think it's even close.
- 1:16:42[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, because I think they have the advantage.
- 1:16:44[SPEAKER_00]: You don't see them, I'll be closest to them as the one in their division, right?
- 1:16:47[SPEAKER_00]: Which they play a week from Thursday, I believe, right?
- 1:16:50[SPEAKER_01]: Hello.
- 1:16:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that'll be fun.
- 1:16:53[SPEAKER_01]: Broncos 24, Raider 17.
- 1:16:55[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know.
- 1:16:57[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, that's another one where kind of a late score from Kenny Pickett.
- 1:17:01[SPEAKER_01]: What did Pete Carroll say?
- 1:17:02[SPEAKER_01]: It looked fantastic and it's like, well, you're just kind of, you know, slapping a little bit of lipstick on the pig there.
- 1:17:07[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and, uh, and making this one look competitive Denver is just, their locked in is that never, not locked in, but, you know, um, locked in is the number one seed there in the AFC.
- 1:17:17[SPEAKER_00]: And then last but not least, kind of like one of those, you hate to say this week is this an NFL game, but like, just kind of felt like Denver managed itself to a win.
- 1:17:25[SPEAKER_01]: And they have been, right?
- 1:17:27[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and I said this before, I'm done asking teams to just like blow me away.
- 1:17:34[SPEAKER_01]: Like the 2019 Rams every week.
- 1:17:37[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't have to happen that way.
