- 0:00Speaker 1: And now move the sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
- 0:07Speaker 2: What's up? Everybody? Welcome to move the six.
- 0:09Speaker 3: I'm Bucky Brooks today stepping in for Brian Baldinger and
- 0:12Speaker 3: Daniel Jeremiah. It's the one and the only, Acetown's Finest.
- 0:16Speaker 3: We're not talking about Paul Weezy Paul Wall. We're talking
- 0:19Speaker 3: about Lance and z Lance.
- 0:21Speaker 2: What's going on?
- 0:21Speaker 1: What's up?
- 0:22Speaker 2: Buck?
- 0:22Speaker 4: How are we doing?
- 0:23Speaker 2: Man? We're good. You know, we chilling. You know how
- 0:26Speaker 2: it goes. How's everything with you?
- 0:28Speaker 4: It's good?
- 0:29Speaker 1: I mean, you know, I'm digging in on my tape
- 0:31Speaker 1: and I got the call from the bullpen. They said
- 0:34Speaker 1: the Dodgers needed another art as Dave Robertson run through
- 0:37Speaker 1: the entire bullpens.
- 0:39Speaker 2: I mean it's hard when you when you back to back,
- 0:43Speaker 2: it's hard.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I said, step in and give you that Clayton Kershaw
- 0:47Speaker 1: real quick and try to step in and see what
- 0:50Speaker 1: I could do.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Well.
- 0:51Speaker 3: Just make sure we're not probably betting on the first pitch,
- 0:53Speaker 3: so you don't go it in the dirt. Be sure
- 0:56Speaker 3: we keep it just keeping above board. Lances. We're talking
- 1:00Speaker 3: about the news and everything that's going down.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Man.
- 1:03Speaker 3: The New York Giants, let go of Brian Dayball. Today
- 1:07Speaker 3: some would say let go party ways fired. However you
- 1:10Speaker 3: want to say it, that's what happened. And man, you
- 1:14Speaker 3: talk about a guy who was coach of the Year
- 1:17Speaker 3: a few years ago, did a great job in twenty
- 1:20Speaker 3: twenty two, got those that team to the playoffs. But
- 1:24Speaker 3: three plus seasons twenty forty and one team decided wanted
- 1:30Speaker 3: to go in a different direction. Right now, Mike Kaffka,
- 1:33Speaker 3: the offensive coordinator, will take over as the interim head coach,
- 1:37Speaker 3: and away we go.
- 1:39Speaker 2: The carousel is spinning already.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know, it looked like there was a
- 1:45Speaker 1: chance once once Dark and Scatterbow were doing what they
- 1:49Speaker 1: were doing early on, you know, I kind of thought, well, maybe,
- 1:52Speaker 1: you know, this may turn into a few more wins.
- 1:54Speaker 1: It was an exciting team to watch. But you know,
- 1:58Speaker 1: since that win against the Eagles, that's surprising, seventeen point
- 2:02Speaker 1: win at home against the Eagles, it's been four straight losses.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Some of them have been competitive, some not as much.
- 2:08Speaker 1: But I think, you know, once you start stacking these losses,
- 2:12Speaker 1: Buck two and eight, he didn't have a whole lot
- 2:14Speaker 1: of leeway even coming into the season, so I think
- 2:18Speaker 1: that the next question is going to be does Joe
- 2:20Speaker 1: Shane make it out? I think that's the next question asked.
- 2:23Speaker 1: Do they do a is it a clean sweep with quarterback?
- 2:26Speaker 1: I mean with you know, head coach and general manager?
- 2:29Speaker 1: Or are they going to let Joe. I think they'll
- 2:31Speaker 1: let him stay. It looks like he had a pretty
- 2:33Speaker 1: good draft. I mean, Jackson darts a lot better than
- 2:35Speaker 1: I expected him to be. To be honest with you, Buck,
- 2:38Speaker 1: He's got a little mentality to him that I think
- 2:41Speaker 1: could lead to him being a pretty good quarterback.
- 2:43Speaker 4: So I think Shane may it another year.
- 2:46Speaker 1: But we'll see, because you know, a lot of times
- 2:50Speaker 1: teams like to make the clean sweep, but because they
- 2:52Speaker 1: just drafted a quarterback, you know, it is buck. A
- 2:54Speaker 1: lot of time it's head coach, GM and quarterback all
- 2:58Speaker 1: in the same year.
- 2:59Speaker 4: But that obviously won't be the case this year.
- 3:01Speaker 1: I think Dave Balls a pretty good coach, you know,
- 3:06Speaker 1: just he never sustained anything. He had that one year
- 3:09Speaker 1: where Daniel Jones looked like, hey, maybe Daniel Jones is
- 3:12Speaker 1: a guy that gave Daniel Jones good money. Daniel Jones
- 3:16Speaker 1: wasn't the guy and Dave Ball just just couldn't get
- 3:19Speaker 1: it done and just never sustained. He had that one
- 3:21Speaker 1: good year and it just didn't sustain after that. So
- 3:24Speaker 1: not a complete surprise other than you know, I thought
- 3:27Speaker 1: he might get a finish out the year. But in
- 3:29Speaker 1: this day and age, nothing should surprise you. It's just
- 3:33Speaker 1: you know, you going the middle of the year. You
- 3:35Speaker 1: going to the middle of the year. That's the way it is.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that is the way it is. That he cycled
- 3:38Speaker 2: through coordinators.
- 3:40Speaker 3: You know, some would say Wing Martindale did a really
- 3:42Speaker 3: good job for them on defense, got rid of him
- 3:46Speaker 3: and Winks guys brought his own guy in Shane Bowen.
- 3:49Speaker 3: The defense has been okay, but it certainly hasn't played
- 3:52Speaker 3: to the level that they play that Underwink. They've had
- 3:55Speaker 3: four games this year where they live by ten or
- 3:57Speaker 3: more points on the road and they've lost all four
- 4:00Speaker 3: of them.
- 4:02Speaker 2: And so when you.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Get that, and you know, the people are frustrated and frustrated,
- 4:08Speaker 3: somebody has to be the sacrificial lamb. And unfortunately for
- 4:11Speaker 3: Brian day Ball, who did do a really good job
- 4:13Speaker 3: with Daniel Jones early, I mean, look, he's the one
- 4:18Speaker 3: to go.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Now.
- 4:19Speaker 3: The interesting thing is Jackson Dart, Cam Scataboo and Elik Neighbors.
- 4:25Speaker 3: They were only together for like a quarter and a half,
- 4:28Speaker 3: but you could tell the energy and the juice that
- 4:30Speaker 3: they brought and so you feel like there's some pieces
- 4:34Speaker 3: in place for the next guy. But I'm gonna be honest,
- 4:37Speaker 3: it's the fourth time for Jackson Dart that he's been
- 4:39Speaker 3: in protocol. All those haven't been diagnosed as concussions, but
- 4:44Speaker 3: you know how theything goes. You start having a few
- 4:47Speaker 3: of them, you just wonder long term viability. But look,
- 4:50Speaker 3: he looked like he had the juice and the spark
- 4:54Speaker 3: and he was giving them something. So it'd be interesting
- 4:56Speaker 3: to see one how they finished the season. Two the
- 5:00Speaker 3: direction they go when it comes to the next coach.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Who wants to be the guy that takes on that
- 5:06Speaker 3: job with that quarterback that's in place because the quarterback
- 5:08Speaker 3: is there.
- 5:09Speaker 2: So you get the quarterback like it or not.
- 5:13Speaker 3: You get Scataboo coming off an injury, and you have
- 5:15Speaker 3: Elak Neighbors also coming off injury. So you have some pieces,
- 5:18Speaker 3: but those pieces have some damage to be interesting to
- 5:21Speaker 3: see who takes that job, who wants that job?
- 5:23Speaker 1: You know it feels like a pretty good job, I
- 5:25Speaker 1: mean on the surface, but Scataboo's coming back.
- 5:28Speaker 4: From a really tough injury. Elak Neighbors.
- 5:30Speaker 1: We know, acl tear you start when you start talking
- 5:34Speaker 1: about being in in you know, a protocol or being
- 5:39Speaker 1: observed in the middle of a game for a potential
- 5:42Speaker 1: head trauma. That does and especially for a quarterback who's
- 5:44Speaker 1: not afraid to get out of the pocket and you know,
- 5:47Speaker 1: try to get some tough yards. That's something that you
- 5:49Speaker 1: find out pretty quickly. I can't do all this college
- 5:52Speaker 1: football stuff. This has got to be your livelihood and
- 5:56Speaker 1: your importance to your team as a quarterback supersedes any
- 5:59Speaker 1: kind of of ego that you may have, especially in college.
- 6:03Speaker 1: No one slides in college. Everyone's kind of expected. Quarterbacks
- 6:06Speaker 1: are going to take on the contact and pros. You're
- 6:09Speaker 1: expected to slide unless you absolutely are trying to get critical.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Years, you know, and that's and I'll be honest.
- 6:18Speaker 1: I mean, I think Jackson Dark has the kind of
- 6:20Speaker 1: swagger that you have to have in New York. He's
- 6:23Speaker 1: got the kind of confidence. I mean some of that,
- 6:25Speaker 1: you know, it kind of made me laugh, some of
- 6:27Speaker 1: the trap house stuff he in Scataboo were doing. I'm like,
- 6:30Speaker 1: I laugh, But at the same time, he's got that
- 6:34Speaker 1: like that's real.
- 6:35Speaker 4: You can see it.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I saw it on the field of the combine. You know,
- 6:38Speaker 1: you don't know how it's going to translate. Like, just
- 6:40Speaker 1: because you have that doesn't mean you're going to be
- 6:41Speaker 1: a quarterback. But if you've got some ability and he's
- 6:44Speaker 1: an accurate quarterback he has. He's a pretty average arm
- 6:46Speaker 1: but he's an accurate passer and he's not afraid of
- 6:49Speaker 1: the moment. He's not afraid of the situation. He's got
- 6:51Speaker 1: tremendous He's a tremendous competitor with a lot of confidence.
- 6:55Speaker 4: And that's something you have to have in New.
- 6:57Speaker 1: York because if you don't and it goes sideway, you
- 7:00Speaker 1: can't get out the media, the fan base will roll
- 7:03Speaker 1: downhill on you. And so you have to have the
- 7:05Speaker 1: right coach for that market. You have to have the
- 7:08Speaker 1: right quarterback for the market. They might have gotten the
- 7:10Speaker 1: right quarterback right, but as you mentioned, as we see
- 7:13Speaker 1: with the Commanders and Daniels, quarterback health is just not
- 7:18Speaker 1: a given.
- 7:19Speaker 4: It's just not a given.
- 7:20Speaker 2: No, it's not a given.
- 7:21Speaker 3: And here's the thing that I say about Jackson Dart
- 7:24Speaker 3: as we pivoted from Brian Dabel to Jackson Dard. I
- 7:27Speaker 3: think the best quality that Jackson Dart has is his
- 7:29Speaker 3: ability to connect.
- 7:31Speaker 2: I feel like his teammates rock with him.
- 7:34Speaker 3: I think some of that, as you say, trapout stuff
- 7:36Speaker 3: that him and Scataboo have on top of the talent
- 7:40Speaker 3: and the energy that they bring ingratiated themselves to the
- 7:45Speaker 3: rest of the team. And I don't believe it's a
- 7:47Speaker 3: coincidence that they played better when he was in the
- 7:52Speaker 3: lineup and they were in the lineup and they had
- 7:53Speaker 3: that thing rolling, I think a day ball. The tough
- 7:56Speaker 3: thing for him is the decisions that he made when
- 8:00Speaker 3: it came to the coordinator, particularly on defense.
- 8:02Speaker 2: The defense couldn't hold on to it.
- 8:05Speaker 3: You felt like the defense could be even more dominant
- 8:09Speaker 3: than it's being given. I mean, man, if I tell
- 8:11Speaker 3: you who they have on the front line, Brian Burns,
- 8:14Speaker 3: Desha Lawrence, you have Kemeon Thibodeau, you have a dual Carter.
- 8:18Speaker 3: I mean, they have some hunters. So you would like
- 8:21Speaker 3: to think that they could be able to do it.
- 8:23Speaker 3: And when you look at the recipe for success in
- 8:24Speaker 3: New York, that has been it solid play on offense,
- 8:28Speaker 3: dominant defensively, led by a disruptive front line. Those pieces
- 8:32Speaker 3: are in place, so the next coach has to build
- 8:35Speaker 3: upon that and find a way to just put it
- 8:37Speaker 3: all together so it can be a better product. And
- 8:39Speaker 3: what is a very competitive division with the Eagles, the Commanders,
- 8:43Speaker 3: and the Cowboys all kind of load to a talent.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, I think when you think about the
- 8:48Speaker 1: NFL job openings that are going to be out there
- 8:51Speaker 1: this year, they're going to be you know, the Titans
- 8:54Speaker 1: just seem like a really tough one, to be honest
- 8:57Speaker 1: with you, But I think the Giants you just mentioned,
- 9:00Speaker 1: I mean a lot of it's going to be based
- 9:02Speaker 1: on health of that running back, health of that wide
- 9:05Speaker 1: receiver that you mentioned previously. But there's there's some pieces
- 9:08Speaker 1: to work with, Like you've got some pieces to work
- 9:10Speaker 1: with over there. So I don't think it's going to
- 9:13Speaker 1: be a job that I think there will be some
- 9:15Speaker 1: pretty good coaches who are interested in that job. For
- 9:18Speaker 1: day Ball. He's been a good play caller in the past,
- 9:21Speaker 1: he's been a good coordinator of offenses. I think it's
- 9:24Speaker 1: going to be interesting to see whether or not he
- 9:26Speaker 1: takes some time off or gets right back into it,
- 9:29Speaker 1: because there will you know, there's gonna be there's always
- 9:33Speaker 1: offensive coordinator positions open. I don't think he'll get a
- 9:38Speaker 1: head coaching job, another pro job anytime soon. I think
- 9:42Speaker 1: that's that ship may have sailed for him. But we'll see.
- 9:45Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it's interesting, but that's the news today. Brian
- 9:49Speaker 3: dayball out as New York Giants head coach nine seventy one,
- 9:53Speaker 3: six and eleven, three and fourteen, and in two and
- 9:56Speaker 3: eight before he is pink slipped out the speaking out
- 10:01Speaker 3: the door Lance, I had the rundown and all this order.
- 10:06Speaker 3: But because you're the representative, U bun be so many
- 10:10Speaker 3: other Houston dignitaries in the building yesterday at that game
- 10:16Speaker 3: where the Houston Texans come back against the Jacksonville Jaguars,
- 10:21Speaker 3: is twenty nine to ten, one minute left in the game,
- 10:24Speaker 3: and then h Town issues a beatdown or takes advantage
- 10:28Speaker 3: of a meltdown, however you see it and find a
- 10:31Speaker 3: way to win. Just give me your thoughts because I
- 10:34Speaker 3: know in Houston, I know the votes have been circling
- 10:38Speaker 3: around the offensive coordinator and what's going on.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Just tell me what you saw.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Yeah, You know, it's interesting because there was so much
- 10:45Speaker 1: expected of the Houston Texas this year and they've and
- 10:48Speaker 1: it's failed to materialize. And there was a lot of
- 10:50Speaker 1: hope that a new offense coordinator of the Fans wanted
- 10:54Speaker 1: Bobby slowly gone. And I would argue that it's actually
- 10:58Speaker 1: worse this year than it's been in the past. They
- 10:59Speaker 1: can't get a yard a short yardage when they get
- 11:02Speaker 1: inside the three yard line. I mean, they can't get
- 11:04Speaker 1: it in from first and goal at to one. It's
- 11:06Speaker 1: been a massive issue for this team. But I'll tell
- 11:10Speaker 1: you no one ever quits on Demiico Ryans.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Number one. The defense is I mean, it's an elite defense.
- 11:18Speaker 4: You've got to take away hear it.
- 11:20Speaker 1: On the back end, You've got you got some physical linebackers,
- 11:23Speaker 1: and then you've got a rush that's an extremely potent rush.
- 11:27Speaker 1: I think you can run the ball a little bit
- 11:28Speaker 1: on them if you choose to, but for the most part,
- 11:31Speaker 1: they swarm to everything. They really play hard. For Demico Ryans,
- 11:35Speaker 1: it's just offensively, there just has never been that perfect
- 11:39Speaker 1: connection between and they missed Joe Mixon a lot, but
- 11:43Speaker 1: the running back, offensive coordinator, quarterback, offensive line, that combination
- 11:49Speaker 1: is never fully You know, they didn't have the old
- 11:51Speaker 1: line last year, and the coordinator and CJ, I'm not
- 11:54Speaker 1: sure they always saw eye to eye. But the running
- 11:56Speaker 1: back was great the rookie year. CJ was great, coordinator
- 12:00Speaker 1: was good, offensive line was beat up. But they played okay.
- 12:03Speaker 1: But you didn't have a running game. So now you
- 12:05Speaker 1: go into the Jacksonville game and you're missing your starting
- 12:07Speaker 1: right tackle, your starting right guard. They pulled Trent Brown
- 12:09Speaker 1: off the practice squad. He's been an NFL starter CD.
- 12:12Speaker 1: So neither one of these guys who played a snap
- 12:15Speaker 1: all year. They plugged them in against the Jacksonville team
- 12:18Speaker 1: that put in work on them. The first game, and
- 12:22Speaker 1: you have no starting quarterback, you have no kicker, You're
- 12:25Speaker 1: starting kicker's gone, you're starting nickel corner, Jalen Petrie is out.
- 12:30Speaker 1: And then you're down nineteen in the fourth quarner and
- 12:32Speaker 1: I'm like, man, I'm trying to watch tape. I'll put
- 12:35Speaker 1: this on in the background, but I got guys I
- 12:36Speaker 1: got to write up, so I'm just listening like a touchdown. Okay, Well,
- 12:40Speaker 1: let me just pop the video screen on here at
- 12:43Speaker 1: let me watch a little bit of it. And what
- 12:45Speaker 1: really stood out to me was that it's two things. Yes,
- 12:50Speaker 1: a lot Davis Mills never gave up, never gave in.
- 12:52Speaker 1: He was very he was played with a lot of poise.
- 12:56Speaker 1: He's a guy who's been through adversity, Bucky, I mean
- 12:59Speaker 1: he was he was five and nineteen going to that game.
- 13:02Speaker 1: He went through the David Cully and Lovey Smith eraon
- 13:04Speaker 1: Texans that was terrible. And so he's been through adversity
- 13:08Speaker 1: his whole life, so it didn't really rattle him. What
- 13:12Speaker 1: stood out to me is that that game is really
- 13:14Speaker 1: over if Jacksonville has any confidence at all, and I
- 13:17Speaker 1: think it starts at the quarterback.
- 13:18Speaker 4: And honestly, you know, when you.
- 13:22Speaker 1: Watch Trevor Lawrence, this is a guy who should be
- 13:24Speaker 1: able to with all those traits, right, he should be
- 13:27Speaker 1: able to shut the door on games way more frequently
- 13:31Speaker 1: than he does.
- 13:31Speaker 4: And it's just not happening. It's just not happening.
- 13:35Speaker 1: And you know, he looks nervous at the most important
- 13:39Speaker 1: you know, I had an interesting text exchange yesterday, and
- 13:42Speaker 1: you know, the idea that he's the kid that doesn't
- 13:44Speaker 1: doesn't doesn't want the ball hit to him in the infield.
- 13:47Speaker 4: He's the guy that doesn't want the shot, like I
- 13:49Speaker 4: hope MJ shoots.
- 13:50Speaker 1: I hope you don't kick it up to me. I'm
- 13:52Speaker 1: not trying to take this last shot.
- 13:54Speaker 4: That shouldn't be who you are.
- 13:55Speaker 1: If you're Trevor Lawrence, you should always want that big moment,
- 13:59Speaker 1: and uh, it just doesn't.
- 14:01Speaker 4: It's never materialized.
- 14:03Speaker 1: And that defensive front against a beat up offensive line
- 14:07Speaker 1: and a nineteen point lead. That should never be a
- 14:10Speaker 1: game that you lose, and yet you did because Houston
- 14:12Speaker 1: didn't give up and Jacksonville was just trying to hang
- 14:15Speaker 1: on and just back into a win.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, it's so crazy, it's so surreal, men,
- 14:20Speaker 3: and left in the game, you go up twenty nine
- 14:22Speaker 3: to nineteen, You're looking at it and you're like, man,
- 14:25Speaker 3: they're not enough possessions remaining in this game for them
- 14:28Speaker 3: to be able to come back, like Jacksonville will have
- 14:30Speaker 3: to offer up and then Lance When you look at
- 14:32Speaker 3: the play sheet in the fourth quarter, so I think
- 14:34Speaker 3: that Texans finished with sixty nine plays. They had thirty
- 14:40Speaker 3: three plays in the fourth quarter. They had fourteen play
- 14:44Speaker 3: drive eighteen play drive, I mean just two long extended drives.
- 14:50Speaker 3: And it reminded me of the twenty eight to three
- 14:52Speaker 3: game with the Falcons in the Patriots, where after a while,
- 14:55Speaker 3: if your defense is on the field that long game
- 14:57Speaker 3: pass rush mode getting they don't have anything.
- 15:01Speaker 2: So by the time you got.
- 15:03Speaker 3: To the end of the fourth quarter and they started
- 15:04Speaker 3: running the ball, they started, man, you could push, you
- 15:08Speaker 3: could tip them over with a feather like they were toast.
- 15:11Speaker 2: It was. It was.
- 15:12Speaker 3: It was a done deal. And you can sense it
- 15:14Speaker 3: and you can feel it. And if you were in
- 15:16Speaker 3: the building, the building won. I didn't realize how loud
- 15:19Speaker 3: it gets in there, like when they're when they're kind
- 15:22Speaker 3: of putting it down like it it kind of got
- 15:25Speaker 3: louder and rockets in there.
- 15:27Speaker 1: And I was like our listeners today on the radio,
- 15:30Speaker 1: arned listeners were wondering if there was a noise being
- 15:32Speaker 1: piped in there, like how did so many people leave
- 15:34Speaker 1: and it's still so loud in there, Like.
- 15:36Speaker 3: I don't know, I know this, I know the sideline
- 15:40Speaker 3: on the sideline, it was really loud.
- 15:42Speaker 4: I'll say for okay, I got to get a call
- 15:45Speaker 4: next time you're in town.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Now, I got spots for you. I got to get
- 15:47Speaker 1: a call.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Let you just keep it.
- 15:50Speaker 4: I know how you are though you probably just keep
- 15:51Speaker 4: it in a hotel, keeping a low profile.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Well, we were at the Galleria, so we went to
- 15:56Speaker 2: Del Frisco's.
- 15:57Speaker 4: Yeah, right across the street.
- 15:58Speaker 3: We went there, and you know, I got that the
- 16:00Speaker 3: Galleria still jumps. The younger me would have been all
- 16:03Speaker 3: over it. The older meat was like, oh lord, it's
- 16:04Speaker 3: a lot of folks up in this joint. And then
- 16:06Speaker 3: there's Joey's uptown which is right there too.
- 16:09Speaker 2: So yeah, so it was cool.
- 16:12Speaker 3: But I will say, man, the Texans defense is good
- 16:16Speaker 3: enough to get them back in the race. And because
- 16:18Speaker 3: Jacksonville didn't close the door on them now they messed
- 16:21Speaker 3: around and gave them life with c. J.
- 16:23Speaker 2: Stroud coming back.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Whatever Demico has to tell them to get it done,
- 16:28Speaker 3: they certainly can get it done. Because daneil Hunter, I
- 16:30Speaker 3: think had four s acts on his own. You got
- 16:32Speaker 3: Will Anderson over there, Seldon Rankins was creating problems. And
- 16:35Speaker 3: when the secondary is fully back with Petrie Stingley lasted in,
- 16:40Speaker 3: those guys they're really good. They just got to figure
- 16:42Speaker 3: out a way to put some points up on offense
- 16:44Speaker 3: because they.
- 16:45Speaker 1: Yeah, they got to take the threes in Tournament of
- 16:47Speaker 1: Seven's and that's been a problem all year long, and
- 16:50Speaker 1: and unless they do it, they won't they won't get
- 16:53Speaker 1: back into the hunt.
- 16:54Speaker 4: But this game, they got the Titans coming up.
- 16:57Speaker 1: You expect them to go five and five, and then
- 16:58Speaker 1: you got the Buffalo Bills out after that, and that
- 17:01Speaker 1: can lead us into this Bills game.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Let's take a break right now and we'll be back
- 17:04Speaker 2: with more of the recap.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Listen, I would have said that Texas don't have a
- 17:12Speaker 1: chance against the Bills, even with the Bills coming into town,
- 17:15Speaker 1: But after what I watched from Miami yesterday, I don't
- 17:20Speaker 1: know where that came from. If you were worried about
- 17:22Speaker 1: the team quitting on Mike McDaniel, not yet. They haven't
- 17:25Speaker 1: quit just yet. And I got to ask you, like,
- 17:29Speaker 1: what is going Is this just a case of so
- 17:32Speaker 1: you lose Dalton Kinkaid, he gets hurt, he's out for
- 17:35Speaker 1: the game. It feels like they just they maybe made
- 17:39Speaker 1: a mistake by not targeting a wide receiver before the
- 17:42Speaker 1: trade deadline.
- 17:44Speaker 3: I will say that the Buffalo Bills are funny because
- 17:50Speaker 3: they may be the quote unquote best team, but when
- 17:53Speaker 3: you look at the individual parts, I don't know if
- 17:56Speaker 3: you're wowed by anybody outside.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Of Josh Allen.
- 18:00Speaker 3: If we really talk about like the blue chip players,
- 18:02Speaker 3: if we're talking about it from a scouting standpoint, who
- 18:06Speaker 3: are the guys that you're clamoring for on their roster
- 18:09Speaker 3: outside of Josh.
- 18:10Speaker 2: Allen and James Cook.
- 18:12Speaker 3: James Cook is an upper echelon guy. Some people will
- 18:14Speaker 3: say Deon Dawkins could be in that conversation, but lams
- 18:17Speaker 3: who else? And so they are a team that plays
- 18:20Speaker 3: really well together. But they kind of remind me of
- 18:24Speaker 3: like a service academy, you know how you can see
- 18:27Speaker 3: the Service Academy.
- 18:27Speaker 2: They can snatch down those good teams.
- 18:30Speaker 3: But when they play like a Taunton State, Taunton Sate
- 18:33Speaker 3: be Army early in the year because Army didn't play
- 18:36Speaker 3: their A game. To me, I feel like the Bills
- 18:39Speaker 3: need to play their A game against everybody because they're
- 18:43Speaker 3: vulnerable and susceptible to lose to anyone. They can knock
- 18:46Speaker 3: off the Chiefs, but they just as easy can lose
- 18:49Speaker 3: to somebody else if they don't bring it. And against
- 18:52Speaker 3: Miami they didn't bring their best and they're not talented
- 18:56Speaker 3: enough to just roll out the balls and go win
- 18:59Speaker 3: the That's what stood out to me when I watched them.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Yeah, they're not good enough defensively. You know, they haven't
- 19:04Speaker 1: been the same on defense since they lost their two
- 19:06Speaker 1: safeties to age. Basically, it's it's just it's not something's missing.
- 19:14Speaker 1: You're right, Bucky, there's there's just something missing. Kean Klem
- 19:18Speaker 1: has never developed in any type of wide receiver one
- 19:20Speaker 1: they've got. They've got a variety. It's kind of like
- 19:22Speaker 1: having a fantasy football team where you've got a variety
- 19:25Speaker 1: of good but you're not sure to who to start,
- 19:28Speaker 1: and so you end up, you know, end up leaving
- 19:30Speaker 1: points on the you end up leaving points on the
- 19:32Speaker 1: bench because you didn't start the right guy. Because there's
- 19:34Speaker 1: too many hard decisions. There's not a decision about who
- 19:37Speaker 1: to start here. But my point is, you're right something
- 19:40Speaker 1: you've got. You've got some good pretty goods to goods,
- 19:45Speaker 1: but there's not enough greats and not enough difference makers.
- 19:48Speaker 4: I think on this team, I think you hit that
- 19:51Speaker 4: dead on the head.
- 19:52Speaker 1: And so if that's the case, you really can't afford
- 19:55Speaker 1: to have you can't just flip the switch. I thought, Buffalo,
- 19:57Speaker 1: you know they're down sixteen and a half. I thought,
- 19:59Speaker 1: can and they flip a switch. They could not swip
- 20:02Speaker 1: a flip a switch. They just couldn't do it. Now
- 20:05Speaker 1: haven't been able to do it really most of the year.
- 20:07Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's crazy to watch because we love Josh
- 20:10Speaker 3: Allen's heroics, but in a game like that, I don't
- 20:15Speaker 3: know if he has enough with him to be able
- 20:17Speaker 3: to pull it off. Because he was running around and
- 20:19Speaker 3: doing his thing, and he had the numbers in the yards,
- 20:20Speaker 3: but he turned it over a few times and that
- 20:22Speaker 3: he just I don't know if he has enough dudes
- 20:26Speaker 3: with him. And so now I'm worried about them when
- 20:30Speaker 3: we talk about like title team, they still can't get
- 20:32Speaker 3: to Super Bowl. They still can do all the other
- 20:34Speaker 3: stuff and win it. But I think it's really imperative
- 20:36Speaker 3: for them. Man, every game they show up. Man, they
- 20:40Speaker 3: guys got to show out or they don't have a
- 20:41Speaker 3: chance to be able to get it done.
- 20:43Speaker 2: Speaking of showing.
- 20:44Speaker 3: Out, let's talk about this because I think this game
- 20:47Speaker 3: really set out to me. Pittsburgh LA Chargers Sunday Night game.
- 20:52Speaker 3: There was a lot of intrigue in this one because man,
- 20:55Speaker 3: everyone respects Jim Harbaugh and the bullies that he tends
- 20:58Speaker 3: to build, but This was like the litmus tests. If
- 21:01Speaker 3: the charges are what they think they are, they'll be
- 21:04Speaker 3: able to take care of business against the Steelers, because
- 21:06Speaker 3: the Steelers are going to show you one way or
- 21:09Speaker 3: the other, are you rough and tumble or not. Charges
- 21:12Speaker 3: got it done, and he did it and what I
- 21:14Speaker 3: think is classic Harbor fashion.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Yeah, and I know exactly what you mean by that,
- 21:20Speaker 1: because listen, it is a mess at the tackle position
- 21:23Speaker 1: for them. I really worry long term. I thought this
- 21:26Speaker 1: was a great win. You're going up against that rush,
- 21:29Speaker 1: those edges with tackles who just frankly, you know, are
- 21:34Speaker 1: just have no business starting for a playoff caliber team.
- 21:36Speaker 1: But of course they're there because of the injuries, and
- 21:39Speaker 1: they still win and win convincingly, and justin Herbert was
- 21:43Speaker 1: under duress, he was, but they ran the ball. I mean,
- 21:48Speaker 1: what Harball did was say, we're not going to change
- 21:49Speaker 1: our identity.
- 21:50Speaker 4: We're going to do what we do. We're not going to.
- 21:53Speaker 1: Make drastic changes to game plan because you know, we're
- 21:56Speaker 1: worried about protection. I think I think he did what
- 21:59Speaker 1: he needs needed to do from a philosophical standpoint, to
- 22:03Speaker 1: try and protect his quarterback as much as he could.
- 22:06Speaker 1: But the fact is the team just came out there
- 22:08Speaker 1: and didn't let they didn't let the Steelers get off offensively.
- 22:13Speaker 1: If you get behind and you're the Chargers and you
- 22:17Speaker 1: have Pittsburgh being able to pin their ears back knowing
- 22:19Speaker 1: you're passing, you're cooked, you're done well. I mean, the
- 22:23Speaker 1: Chargers defensively stood up and showed out and they said,
- 22:27Speaker 1: we're not going to let you get that lead, so
- 22:29Speaker 1: that we're going to be able to control how this
- 22:30Speaker 1: game flow goes. And I thought, and Na's classic hardball football.
- 22:34Speaker 1: I know exactly what you mean, because this game didn't
- 22:36Speaker 1: get away from him from a game flow standpoint. He
- 22:39Speaker 1: kept it right where he needed to so that the
- 22:41Speaker 1: Steelers couldn't just pin their ears back, because that would
- 22:43Speaker 1: have been a real problem if had they been able
- 22:46Speaker 1: to do that with a ten point lead, for example.
- 22:49Speaker 3: I mean, look, I think you just have to be
- 22:51Speaker 3: impressed with what you saw from the Chargers. I mean,
- 22:54Speaker 3: from all of it, right, you saw a running game materialized.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Like you think, Hey, they don't have a Mario Hampton
- 22:59Speaker 3: and Lord Bow. They get Vidal and some other guys
- 23:01Speaker 3: to contribute and make the greatest You know what I mean,
- 23:05Speaker 3: You know you get them running the football effectively. You
- 23:08Speaker 3: see Lab McConkie make plays when they need plays in
- 23:10Speaker 3: the passing game. Keenan Allen Sessta record for the Chargers
- 23:15Speaker 3: in terms of like all time receiving leader, and then
- 23:19Speaker 3: Justin Herbert just doing Justin Herbert stuff. Whatever they need
- 23:22Speaker 3: him to do, he can get it done. And as
- 23:24Speaker 3: you talked about that defense being able to hunt and
- 23:27Speaker 3: get after it. The thing about the Chargers, they kind
- 23:31Speaker 3: of remind me of those classic Alabama teams with Nick Sabin,
- 23:35Speaker 3: had the heavy hitters on defense and it was defense
- 23:38Speaker 3: run game, kind of efficient playmaking, and you look up
- 23:42Speaker 3: and you felt like they dominated the game, but it
- 23:44Speaker 3: was like a twenty four to three beat down. I
- 23:47Speaker 3: felt like that game. Once they seize control, the score
- 23:51Speaker 3: is what the score is. But it never felt like
- 23:54Speaker 3: the Stealers were going to get back in the game.
- 23:56Speaker 3: It always felt like the Chargers had their game under control.
- 23:59Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree, and I do wonder.
- 24:02Speaker 1: I'm not going to say the Steelers are a paper Tiger,
- 24:06Speaker 1: but this has not been an attack down the field defense,
- 24:09Speaker 1: I mean offense. This is one that there's a lot
- 24:11Speaker 1: of Deakin and Duncan by Aaron Rodgers. He doesn't throw.
- 24:14Speaker 1: It's not the same pass concept we've seen in the past. So,
- 24:19Speaker 1: you know, I think that I am curious to see
- 24:23Speaker 1: if they can get into a shootout and win in
- 24:26Speaker 1: a shootout against a good team. And it never materialized
- 24:29Speaker 1: because they just they couldn't find their offense. They couldn't
- 24:31Speaker 1: find they are missing. They're another team that's missing something offensively.
- 24:37Speaker 1: I like Jalen Warren. He is he's a tough, versatile
- 24:41Speaker 1: running back, but he's not going to hit you with
- 24:42Speaker 1: a ton of explosives. DK Metcalf has kind of a
- 24:45Speaker 1: limited route tree. They're trying to do a lot of
- 24:47Speaker 1: you know, he's at his best old school Green Bay Packers,
- 24:51Speaker 1: Aaron Rodgers throwing a lot of you know, over outs,
- 24:53Speaker 1: posts goes. But it's turned into a lot of catch
- 24:56Speaker 1: and run stuff. And that's not really what DK is
- 24:59Speaker 1: all about. That's not where he's that's not where he's
- 25:01Speaker 1: at his best.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Not at all.
- 25:03Speaker 3: And you know, one of the things that I found
- 25:06Speaker 3: weird when they made the move and they were so
- 25:08Speaker 3: adamant about getting Aaron Rodgers, was I was like, well,
- 25:10Speaker 3: the deep ball is not in play, Like this is
- 25:13Speaker 3: a guy that doesn't want to get hit, so he's
- 25:14Speaker 3: not gonna hang in the pocket for a long time,
- 25:16Speaker 3: and they're not gonna be able to push you down
- 25:17Speaker 3: the field. So now you have a deacon offense with
- 25:20Speaker 3: vertical playmakers. So it's it's a it's a hodgepodge of
- 25:24Speaker 3: players that don't that don't match how you really want
- 25:29Speaker 3: to get down. I just don't know how that that
- 25:32Speaker 3: fits short term or long term. When we think about
- 25:36Speaker 3: how teams begin to really hone in on what you
- 25:38Speaker 3: do the second half of the season, they take those.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Things away, what are they gonna do, How are they
- 25:45Speaker 2: gonna fix it?
- 25:45Speaker 3: How they gonna find a way to be very productive
- 25:48Speaker 3: because you need the explosive plays to score points. Last,
- 25:52Speaker 3: they can't score points because they can't make the twenty
- 25:54Speaker 3: yard plus pass plays and they're not breaking off the
- 25:56Speaker 3: big runs. I don't know how they can efficiently put
- 25:59Speaker 3: enough points to deal with the heavyweights.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm looking at his average depth of target dk metcalf.
- 26:07Speaker 1: It's it's his average depth of target is twelve point
- 26:11Speaker 1: one yards this year. It's the lowest of his whole career.
- 26:14Speaker 1: It's been primarily fourteen one, fourteen, nine, thirteen, four, twelve seven,
- 26:18Speaker 1: one year, fourteen one, fourteen one, and now he's down
- 26:21Speaker 1: to twelve one. That is just shows you there's a
- 26:24Speaker 1: lot of uh, there's a lot of throws that are
- 26:27Speaker 1: being made short for him, and he's a guy that
- 26:29Speaker 1: you got to let those legs stretch. Man.
- 26:31Speaker 4: You got you got a.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Weapon that's made to be stretching the field vertically, and
- 26:36Speaker 1: they're just it's just not it's not happening.
- 26:39Speaker 3: No, it's not happening. I don't know how, how is
- 26:41Speaker 3: how it's gonna how it's going to change. Then they
- 26:43Speaker 3: got a tough one coming up because about the Cincinnati
- 26:46Speaker 3: Bengals on the horizon. Luckily they may not have to
- 26:49Speaker 3: face Trey Hendrickson because with that offense with Aaron Rodgers struggling, Yeah,
- 26:55Speaker 3: I just I don't, man, I don't know how to
- 26:56Speaker 3: steal his bounce back. But they'll find a way to
- 26:58Speaker 3: kind of like be in that conversation. But man, this
- 27:00Speaker 3: was a game for them to kind of confirm their
- 27:04Speaker 3: standing with the heavyweights, and they took a step back.
- 27:08Speaker 2: In my estimation, when it comes to.
- 27:09Speaker 3: It, I want to go back the New England Patriots
- 27:12Speaker 3: knockoff the ten Bay Buccaneers twenty eight to twenty three.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Drake may Is continued to do Drake May things, and
- 27:18Speaker 3: I got to ask you, this man, remind me of
- 27:21Speaker 3: what you thought about Drake May when he was coming out.
- 27:23Speaker 3: I was too close to the fire my allegiance to Carolina,
- 27:27Speaker 3: like wanting more from him. But you tell me what
- 27:30Speaker 3: you thought about Drake May when he was coming out,
- 27:33Speaker 3: and is this diversion that you expected to see as
- 27:36Speaker 3: a pro.
- 27:38Speaker 1: Stage. I gave him a sixty five, which is a
- 27:41Speaker 1: boom bus grade, and I felt like he's the classic
- 27:44Speaker 1: boom bust player. And this is what.
- 27:46Speaker 4: Is what I said, challenging evaluation with top flight.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Measurables and tools, but inconsistencies and create a lower floor
- 27:51Speaker 1: than some teams might be comfortable with his size and
- 27:54Speaker 1: arm talent, Jump off tape immediately there's another throw on
- 27:57Speaker 1: the field he can't make, but there are definitely throws
- 27:59Speaker 1: he will try that he shouldn't. The gunslinger mentality creates
- 28:02Speaker 1: fearlessness that can turn into interceptions, but also gives him
- 28:05Speaker 1: a chance to win in tight windows. YadA, YadA, YadA.
- 28:08Speaker 1: There's an undeniable energy to May's game that can create
- 28:11Speaker 1: momentum or turn chaotic when players come off schedule. The
- 28:14Speaker 1: combination of traits and tape make them a boombus prospect
- 28:16Speaker 1: who may need a good situation and patient management and
- 28:19Speaker 1: slash coaching to help shepherd him towards his potential. I
- 28:23Speaker 1: did not expect to see what we saw this year
- 28:28Speaker 1: so far. I did not expect this. I think the
- 28:31Speaker 1: job that Vrabel has done should not be understated. I
- 28:35Speaker 1: think the patients that you know that's in the building
- 28:38Speaker 1: right now, with Elliott Wolf and ownership and whatever, they
- 28:42Speaker 1: were perfectly willing to wait on Drake to become that player.
- 28:45Speaker 1: It's just it's happening way sooner. And I think a
- 28:47Speaker 1: lot of it gets to I talked about that energy
- 28:50Speaker 1: that is undeniable. He's got a level of confidence, you know.
- 28:54Speaker 1: We talked about Trevor Lawrence has all this and that,
- 28:56Speaker 1: but the confidence seems to be missing.
- 28:58Speaker 4: Drake May has never been missing confidence.
- 29:02Speaker 1: And you know, I always hesitate. Everyone wants to have
- 29:07Speaker 1: an inaccurate quarterback or guy who's missing throws be the
- 29:10Speaker 1: next Josh Allen. Just think it's going to get fixed,
- 29:12Speaker 1: you know, because they're big and they got a big arm.
- 29:14Speaker 1: The fact is he has made some real changes to
- 29:17Speaker 1: his game. And I didn't see this happening this quickly
- 29:23Speaker 1: with this team. Look at what he got out of
- 29:26Speaker 1: mc collins long throw. Mc collins went for one oh six.
- 29:29Speaker 1: This is a guy who you know, he's a nice
- 29:32Speaker 1: wide receiver to have. But you got Stefan Diggs with
- 29:35Speaker 1: a touchdown, Kyle Williams one catch, seventy two yard touchdown.
- 29:38Speaker 1: He's letting that the big dogs getting to eat and
- 29:41Speaker 1: that's what he needs. Men, he needs to cut it loose,
- 29:43Speaker 1: and that's what's happening. But the other thing that happened
- 29:47Speaker 1: is the guy that I know, we both love, Trevon Henderson.
- 29:49Speaker 1: What a big game for him. I've been waiting for
- 29:53Speaker 1: this breakout and this is what he's capable of adding
- 29:56Speaker 1: to a team.
- 29:57Speaker 4: Remind me what you thought about Drake, because I.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Mean, it's very much it's very much the same.
- 30:01Speaker 3: Because so many people celebrated him, and I was like,
- 30:05Speaker 3: because I knew too much. One I was in school
- 30:08Speaker 3: right after his dad graduated, so I knew the dad,
- 30:10Speaker 3: and the dad was a great athlete, a legend back
- 30:14Speaker 3: where I'm from.
- 30:16Speaker 2: And then you know the kid didn't play his last
- 30:19Speaker 2: year of.
- 30:19Speaker 3: High school ball because of COVID, and then he sat
- 30:24Speaker 3: behind Sam Howell early and then he played two years,
- 30:28Speaker 3: so he didn't have a lot of experience when he
- 30:30Speaker 3: made his way to the pros. He comes to the Pros,
- 30:33Speaker 3: they threw him in right away, and whatever it was
- 30:36Speaker 3: last year, it was like in terms of dry Mayo,
- 30:39Speaker 3: that system, what they were trying to do.
- 30:41Speaker 2: And so you're sitting there and he has all.
- 30:43Speaker 3: The prototypical stuff that you look for in a new
- 30:45Speaker 3: school quarterback, big arm, size, athleticism, swag as you saw
- 30:51Speaker 3: him celebrate the Cam Newton thing when they played against him.
- 30:54Speaker 2: He got all of that. But I just didn't know
- 30:58Speaker 2: how he's.
- 30:59Speaker 3: Going to job with Job McDaniels, because I didn't know
- 31:01Speaker 3: if Josh could make it right for young quarterback. But
- 31:05Speaker 3: I think the thing that I underestimated was the Mike
- 31:07Speaker 3: Rabel factor, the connectivity that they have as a team,
- 31:12Speaker 3: Josh McDaniels trying to unlock some things, and how look, man,
- 31:18Speaker 3: and when you're a player and you play for a
- 31:20Speaker 3: smart coaching staff that sets you up to win the
- 31:25Speaker 3: masters situations, it just seems like it just all clicked
- 31:30Speaker 3: because this dude is playing at an MVP level, and
- 31:33Speaker 3: you can't deny it.
- 31:34Speaker 2: You can't like it's him and Matthew Stafford and.
- 31:36Speaker 1: John wants to say it. No one wants to say
- 31:38Speaker 1: it because no one feels comfortable saying Drake may MVP.
- 31:42Speaker 1: But when you look at the wins and you look
- 31:43Speaker 1: at the stats, it's true. I mean it's just true.
- 31:46Speaker 1: And they're a better team than Buffalo right now. I
- 31:48Speaker 1: mean they just are. Weekend and week out, they played
- 31:51Speaker 1: better football.
- 31:52Speaker 3: I mean it'd be a really good Tampa Bay team. Yeah,
- 31:54Speaker 3: good in Tampa Bay team in Tampa that is. I
- 31:58Speaker 3: mean that is a big feather in the CA And Bucky.
- 32:01Speaker 1: I watched so a lot. Alonzo Heismiths, who is who's
- 32:05Speaker 1: up there in New England right now, is a longtime
- 32:07Speaker 1: friend and he was in town. Shout out to Zoe
- 32:10Speaker 1: who lost his wife very yeah and uh, and he
- 32:14Speaker 1: was in town in Houston for Game one, so he said, Hey,
- 32:17Speaker 1: meet me up here at the sports bo let's watch
- 32:19Speaker 1: a game. So I watched the game against the Raiders
- 32:23Speaker 1: and it was rough. I thought, Man, New England, it's
- 32:26Speaker 1: got a long way to go. Drake's got a long
- 32:28Speaker 1: way to go. This this may be a you know,
- 32:31Speaker 1: a three or four year pro three year process minimum
- 32:34Speaker 1: for him.
- 32:35Speaker 4: That game was the outlier. Ever since that.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Game, it's been a completely different team and they didn't
- 32:40Speaker 1: play well in that game. But I think it's a
- 32:42Speaker 1: credit to Mike Rabell something you said about Rabel. You know,
- 32:45Speaker 1: I was thinking and Josh McDaniels. When you have when
- 32:49Speaker 1: a team has confidence that the head like they got
- 32:55Speaker 1: the they got the boss man, like Dan Campbell. You know,
- 32:58Speaker 1: it's that feel where every one knows, we got our guy,
- 33:02Speaker 1: our guy will take care of us.
- 33:04Speaker 4: We're good.
- 33:04Speaker 1: We know he's this is big Daddy, and he's got it.
- 33:08Speaker 1: I think Mike Rabel gives you some of that. There's
- 33:10Speaker 1: no concern about it. I wonder if this head coach
- 33:12Speaker 1: knows what he's doing. There's no concern with jos Josh McDaniels.
- 33:15Speaker 1: For whatever you want to think about his personality, how
- 33:18Speaker 1: it ended in Denver and then he skipped out on
- 33:20Speaker 1: Indianapolis or whatever. He's good with quarterbacks, he is, And
- 33:25Speaker 1: I think that the entire team has clearly has a
- 33:30Speaker 1: belief in the people in charge so that they're able
- 33:34Speaker 1: to just focus on going out and doing their job
- 33:37Speaker 1: and I think they have a confidence that the guys
- 33:40Speaker 1: who run the show know what they're doing and have
- 33:42Speaker 1: them headed in the right direction, so all they have
- 33:44Speaker 1: to do is just lock in and play ball.
- 33:46Speaker 3: Yeah, man, I think everyone they'll never admit it. In Tennessee.
- 33:51Speaker 3: I think everyone underestimated how good of a coach that
- 33:54Speaker 3: dude is. And like Rabel, and then with Josh McDaniels,
- 33:59Speaker 3: I think, man, some guys are destined to just be
- 34:02Speaker 3: great in a particular role, and Josh mcdameels is great
- 34:05Speaker 3: in a role as a coordinator.
- 34:08Speaker 4: So what do you think about that idea though? Of
- 34:10Speaker 4: Tennessee getting ready?
- 34:11Speaker 1: You know, when you know you I get the fact
- 34:13Speaker 1: that everyone gets frustrated and they want their pound of
- 34:16Speaker 1: flesh and they want to we just need to make
- 34:17Speaker 1: a change, Buck, I know you.
- 34:19Speaker 4: Can go all the way back.
- 34:20Speaker 1: I remember when Steeler fans wanted to get rid of
- 34:22Speaker 1: Bill Kawer years ago, and Bill Cower was kind of
- 34:24Speaker 1: creeping around at five hundred mark and he wasn't and
- 34:27Speaker 1: then it turned into you know, Super Bowl with Bill
- 34:31Speaker 1: Cower turned into the Steelers were never going to make
- 34:35Speaker 1: a quick change, or they were never going to make
- 34:38Speaker 1: a ration. They were always going to air on the
- 34:40Speaker 1: side of caution, and he ended up becoming, you know,
- 34:43Speaker 1: a tremendous coach over there. Tennessee had the guy, they
- 34:48Speaker 1: had the guy, Mike Vrabel's a dude, And I get
- 34:51Speaker 1: that it wasn't you know, maybe the GM and head
- 34:54Speaker 1: coach thing wasn't perfectly a line.
- 34:56Speaker 4: There, but look where they are now, Look where Tennessee
- 35:00Speaker 4: is now.
- 35:01Speaker 1: Wasn't work.
- 35:02Speaker 3: I just think so many of the errors that we
- 35:04Speaker 3: make in our business are just ego things, like like,
- 35:06Speaker 3: hey man, let's get in the room and figure this
- 35:08Speaker 3: thing out one way or the other.
- 35:09Speaker 2: Let's hash this out. Let's try and find a way
- 35:11Speaker 2: to make this work.
- 35:12Speaker 3: Because it was a good thing, and that good thing
- 35:15Speaker 3: is certainly rolling in New England. And I hate to
- 35:17Speaker 3: say it's funny man, because he's not Belichick, but it
- 35:20Speaker 3: has that BELICHICKI and feel in terms of they're just
- 35:23Speaker 3: a smart football team that doesn't beat themselves, and they
- 35:26Speaker 3: got a young quarterback that is playing at a high level.
- 35:33Speaker 2: Baltimore Ravens. Lance. I heard you pour dirt on them.
- 35:36Speaker 3: You said it was over, and he was done, Like
- 35:40Speaker 3: we need Harbrough out of there. And all they've done
- 35:43Speaker 3: is reel off three straight wins. They knock off the
- 35:46Speaker 3: Minnesota Vikings. They get a twenty seven nineteen win over
- 35:50Speaker 3: the Vikings, and looky, looky here right in the mix,
- 35:55Speaker 3: and people are saying they may be the team to
- 35:57Speaker 3: beat in the North.
- 35:58Speaker 2: Let's talk about the Ravens.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Steelers lose, Ravens win, and here we are look good
- 36:04Speaker 1: and looking like you said, looky, looky.
- 36:06Speaker 4: Pretty much everyone had them win in the North.
- 36:08Speaker 1: I tried to fade that and say I got a
- 36:10Speaker 1: little two game head start when we did our NFL,
- 36:12Speaker 1: you know, our mid season stuff. I said, I'm going
- 36:14Speaker 1: to put the Steelers because I'm going to take this
- 36:16Speaker 1: two game head start. Well, we don't have a two
- 36:18Speaker 1: game head start anymore. It's now one, and soon it
- 36:21Speaker 1: will be completely wiped out because they're playing defense again
- 36:26Speaker 1: and the return of Lamar Jackson obviously is huge, but
- 36:29Speaker 1: the defense coming back from the brink of disaster is
- 36:34Speaker 1: maybe a bigger story because that defense. I watched the
- 36:37Speaker 1: Texans just roll through their defense and now they had
- 36:40Speaker 1: some injuries on defense, but that didn't look like a Ravens.
- 36:43Speaker 1: It was the worst Ravens defense I've ever seen since
- 36:46Speaker 1: their inception is Ravens and they've actually been able to
- 36:51Speaker 1: right the ship. There's another one where the head coach
- 36:54Speaker 1: is just steady Eddy all the time, Harball and you
- 36:59Speaker 1: get your quarterback back. You got King Henry back there,
- 37:02Speaker 1: Zay is still Zay. You've got you know, Mark Andrews
- 37:06Speaker 1: when he's healthy, can play a little bit obviously still
- 37:10Speaker 1: and defensively you were able to get it back on track.
- 37:15Speaker 1: I'm curious what the ceiling is for this team, because
- 37:19Speaker 1: I think they are going to win the AFC North.
- 37:22Speaker 1: They have been, they were inconsistent before Lamar got hurt.
- 37:25Speaker 1: I am curious to see if they can play their
- 37:27Speaker 1: best football on both sides of the ball enough so
- 37:32Speaker 1: to compete in the AFC, which is you know, I don't.
- 37:36Speaker 1: I don't think there's no Killers in the AFC this year.
- 37:39Speaker 1: I don't think. But there's still a lot of good teams.
- 37:42Speaker 1: I mean, there's still a lot of depth over there
- 37:44Speaker 1: in the West. The Colts are are causing some real
- 37:47Speaker 1: problems for people, obviously with that offense, and you know,
- 37:52Speaker 1: I just think you don't. I don't know if New
- 37:56Speaker 1: England's ready. I don't know if New England's ready. The
- 37:58Speaker 1: Bills don't look like they have that kind of team
- 38:00Speaker 1: right now. So why can't the Ravens jump up and say, hey, Tada,
- 38:05Speaker 1: here we are Ravens and Chiefs back at the top again.
- 38:09Speaker 3: Yeah, they can be right there now.
- 38:13Speaker 2: I would say this.
- 38:14Speaker 3: What gives them a chance is when you have the
- 38:19Speaker 3: quarterback and Derrick Henry, it allows them to control the game.
- 38:23Speaker 3: We talked about game control and Harbor, Jim Harbaugh and
- 38:27Speaker 3: what they do with the Chargers. No one really wants
- 38:30Speaker 3: to deal with the Ravens in terms of having to
- 38:32Speaker 3: deal with Lamar Jackson in a one game deal where
- 38:34Speaker 3: he can explode and do that, and having deal with
- 38:37Speaker 3: the combination of Lamar and Derick Henry where they're running
- 38:39Speaker 3: the ball and controlling it and just dominating time of
- 38:42Speaker 3: possession is problematic. If they can continue to fix the
- 38:46Speaker 3: defense like they're doing, where they just don't give up
- 38:48Speaker 3: the explosives, don't give it, the big plays, the one
- 38:51Speaker 3: two drive to play touchdown drives, those are the things
- 38:55Speaker 3: that gives them a chance. They they're coming and we
- 38:59Speaker 3: talk about the best teams heading into the postseason are
- 39:03Speaker 3: playing their best ball December and they're beginning to kind
- 39:07Speaker 3: of find their way and kind of get back to that. Yeah, man,
- 39:12Speaker 3: it looks good and it looks like they're gonna be
- 39:15Speaker 3: the team that we thought they were going to be.
- 39:17Speaker 3: It just took them aroundabout way to get there. For
- 39:20Speaker 3: the Minnesota Vikings, JJ McCarthy kind of came back to
- 39:23Speaker 3: earth a little bit. He didn't put a big numbers
- 39:25Speaker 3: the week before, but there was a buzz some energy
- 39:29Speaker 3: that he brought. He played against the big boys, and
- 39:32Speaker 3: the big boys kind of went out this time.
- 39:34Speaker 4: Gotta remember he's a rookie.
- 39:36Speaker 1: I mean, we can say he's not a rookie, but
- 39:38Speaker 1: this is a player didn't have a lot of experience
- 39:40Speaker 1: in college, had missed all of last year, a big
- 39:44Speaker 1: chunk of this year. He's still learning to be an
- 39:47Speaker 1: NFL quarterback. He's in his infant stages and there's no
- 39:51Speaker 1: way you can rush it. There's no way you can
- 39:53Speaker 1: get through it any faster than you know, other than
- 39:56Speaker 1: just taking snaps, going through adversity, having success, learning what
- 40:00Speaker 1: you can and can't do, figuring out the speed of
- 40:03Speaker 1: the game, getting comfortable and making changes at the line
- 40:05Speaker 1: of scrimmage.
- 40:06Speaker 4: All of that's going to come with time.
- 40:08Speaker 1: You can't rush it so, but it's a necessary process
- 40:14Speaker 1: for Minnesota. It sucks and it has to come halfway
- 40:17Speaker 1: through a second season, but it is what it is.
- 40:20Speaker 1: I mean, you got to get through it.
- 40:22Speaker 4: So they'll always be a dangerous team.
- 40:23Speaker 1: You saw they had a lead at half and they
- 40:25Speaker 1: were they were playing some pretty good football. But then
- 40:29Speaker 1: you know, the cream of the crop just just rows up.
- 40:31Speaker 1: The team that knows how to win did what they
- 40:35Speaker 1: had to do early in the quarter. They put their
- 40:37Speaker 1: foot in the throat early in the quarter and it.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Was a rap, and it was a rap.
- 40:41Speaker 3: Now, let's talk about this this transition quickly to it
- 40:43Speaker 3: being a rap. Elie Rams San Francisco forty nine ers,
- 40:49Speaker 3: Matthew Stafford making the case to win an MVP. We
- 40:52Speaker 3: talked about Drake May but Matthew Stafford just doing the deal.
- 40:55Speaker 3: But I got to tell you just lance on a
- 40:57Speaker 3: note so where your dad will be laughing.
- 41:00Speaker 2: The other Rams tried it out.
- 41:01Speaker 3: Three tight ends and they're running a thirteen personnel package
- 41:05Speaker 3: and they're playing musical chairs with those three tight ends.
- 41:07Speaker 3: They're going from the eye to like unbalanced line to
- 41:10Speaker 3: all kinds of funky stuff and they are absolutely giving
- 41:14Speaker 3: people problems when you look at the RAMS and all
- 41:16Speaker 3: the creative stuff they're doing on offense, what stands out
- 41:18Speaker 3: to you?
- 41:19Speaker 1: Well, I think that's what you talk about, is that
- 41:21Speaker 1: you know, from a personnel standpoint, learning how to personnel
- 41:26Speaker 1: your way into mismatches because you have to remember, teams
- 41:30Speaker 1: are not a lot of teams are not prepared. They're
- 41:33Speaker 1: coming in with stuff that they haven't seen or been
- 41:35Speaker 1: prepared for in practice, and I think it really tests.
- 41:38Speaker 1: I remember my dad always told me in game, he
- 41:41Speaker 1: always felt like in game, and especially halftime halftime, what
- 41:49Speaker 1: changes you know when you make your halftime adjustments. He
- 41:53Speaker 1: always thought that was a little a little overrated. He said,
- 41:56Speaker 1: you know, you don't have a lot of time on
- 41:57Speaker 1: the sideline. You try to figure out what they're doing
- 41:59Speaker 1: against you and what you can do to counter that.
- 42:02Speaker 1: And it's a quick discussion halftime, it's almost no discussion.
- 42:05Speaker 1: I mean, you have such little time. And so I
- 42:07Speaker 1: think with the RAMS, if they start showing you looks
- 42:09Speaker 1: that you're not used to, which is what they're doing
- 42:11Speaker 1: now with the thirteen personnel, at thirteen personnel can be brilliant.
- 42:14Speaker 1: I saw Gary Kubiak, you of the preseason game years
- 42:17Speaker 1: ago against the San Francisco forty nine ers, and I'll
- 42:20Speaker 1: never forget how he was able to throw out of
- 42:23Speaker 1: that and then like he didn't want to show too much,
- 42:27Speaker 1: but it really opened my eyes to the fact that, man,
- 42:29Speaker 1: you thirteen, which is one running at three tight ends,
- 42:34Speaker 1: you really have If you've got some flexible tight ends,
- 42:37Speaker 1: you can really number one, you can unlock the running game.
- 42:40Speaker 1: But if you threaten people with a little bit of
- 42:42Speaker 1: passing attack, they have to stay base and you can
- 42:45Speaker 1: really get after teams. You know, they can't go to
- 42:47Speaker 1: a heavy package, they can't go to heavy personnel. And
- 42:52Speaker 1: it just speaks to what the rams of. This is
- 42:56Speaker 1: the rams, this is what McVeigh does. McVeigh is one
- 42:59Speaker 1: of the great coaches. I think he's a younger version
- 43:02Speaker 1: of what John Gruden was at one point when he
- 43:04Speaker 1: was in the league. They're very similar personalities. But mcveigh's
- 43:08Speaker 1: just so creative. There's a reason everyone wants to hire
- 43:11Speaker 1: his coaches off the tree because Shanahan gets that all
- 43:14Speaker 1: the time. And I get that he came for that
- 43:16Speaker 1: Shanahan tree, But I think McVeigh has done just an
- 43:19Speaker 1: absolutely brilliant job at getting the most out of his
- 43:22Speaker 1: quarterback and getting the most out of the offenses. And
- 43:26Speaker 1: I think what gets overlooked is they know who they are.
- 43:29Speaker 1: Never have they not had their identity. They know what
- 43:32Speaker 1: their identity is. They may make some tweaks, but it's
- 43:35Speaker 1: not like they're searching. They just say, we're going to
- 43:37Speaker 1: do something different this game. It's not like we don't
- 43:39Speaker 1: know what our identity was. And how about the addition
- 43:41Speaker 1: of DeVonta Adams, how big that's been for that offense.
- 43:45Speaker 3: I mean, look, it's just so great for them, right,
- 43:47Speaker 3: Like you're talking about knowing who they are, Like they
- 43:50Speaker 3: have a way of.
- 43:53Speaker 2: Being solid, sound, and sexy all at once.
- 43:55Speaker 3: Right, you're solid and sound in terms of like the
- 43:58Speaker 3: schemes that they use are super sound. They're time tested,
- 44:02Speaker 3: tried and true. We talk about how your dad would
- 44:05Speaker 3: just love the thirteen personnel package they basically have, you know, like,
- 44:09Speaker 3: and people won't get this, but old line coaches get this.
- 44:11Speaker 3: When you have three tight ends on the field, if
- 44:13Speaker 3: you put all three of them on the side, you
- 44:15Speaker 3: create a five man's surface. And in creating that five
- 44:19Speaker 3: man's surface, you now have created an unbalanced line without
- 44:22Speaker 3: really moving all the people over and so now as
- 44:25Speaker 3: a defense, you have to figure out, hey man, do
- 44:26Speaker 3: we make the guard the strong side guard, the new center?
- 44:31Speaker 2: How do we bump over to this?
- 44:32Speaker 3: And then they can flip and move and then you
- 44:35Speaker 3: can go from a five man's surface to now, hey,
- 44:37Speaker 3: let's go I formation tight end wing wide receiver on
- 44:42Speaker 3: the backside. Now let's go I formation tight ends separate
- 44:46Speaker 3: size wide receiver out wide. I mean, they can create
- 44:51Speaker 3: so many problems for you shift and moving with the
- 44:55Speaker 3: personnel because they're versatile. So you got that part of it.
- 44:58Speaker 3: You got the running game that is a test to that.
- 45:00Speaker 3: You have a one of the best quarterbacks pocket passages
- 45:05Speaker 3: that we've seen in NFL history in Matthew Stafford. You
- 45:08Speaker 3: got two big receivers that can get it done, and
- 45:10Speaker 3: DeVante Adams and Pookuin Nakua, and they've created an environment
- 45:15Speaker 3: where everyone just doesn't care about this stasty just want
- 45:19Speaker 3: to win.
- 45:19Speaker 2: So you know how hard it is.
- 45:21Speaker 3: To deal with a team that can throw so much
- 45:23Speaker 3: at you and that players don't care where the ball
- 45:27Speaker 3: goes to me. That's a special thing and that really
- 45:30Speaker 3: allows Sean McVay to just, hey man, whatever we need
- 45:33Speaker 3: to do today to win this game.
- 45:36Speaker 2: That's what we'll do.
- 45:38Speaker 1: And this helps having a guy like DeVante Adams, a
- 45:40Speaker 1: veteran who's wanted the highest, like he knows what it's
- 45:43Speaker 1: supposed to be. He just wants to win right now.
- 45:45Speaker 1: And so you have pookin Aku, who's an unselfish guy.
- 45:48Speaker 1: You have a veteran who just you know, wants to win.
- 45:50Speaker 1: He'll get his he'll get his looks when he gets
- 45:52Speaker 1: his looks. And that's still quite a bit. I mean
- 45:55Speaker 1: it's pretty frequently, but I think it's you talked about
- 45:59Speaker 1: when you have that of so on an unbalanced line,
- 46:02Speaker 1: you're able to get hat on hat. They can't get enough,
- 46:04Speaker 1: they can't get enough personnel for you not to have
- 46:08Speaker 1: an advantage. You're gonna have your linebackers back, so you
- 46:11Speaker 1: now have an automatic advantage in terms of your you know,
- 46:14Speaker 1: your two main games working up to linebackers. Yes, you say, well,
- 46:18Speaker 1: you're a little more limited. You're not going to be
- 46:20Speaker 1: able to stretch the defense. That's more compact, it's a
- 46:23Speaker 1: more condensed formation. I mean that's true, but at the
- 46:26Speaker 1: same time it allows you opportunities to increase it and
- 46:29Speaker 1: hit bigger gash runs as well. And you've actually got
- 46:32Speaker 1: the numbers in your favor in the box there typically,
- 46:35Speaker 1: and if you want to get a little a little
- 46:38Speaker 1: if you want to get a little frogy with your safeties,
- 46:41Speaker 1: all of a sudden you're getting play actioned and you
- 46:44Speaker 1: are you are having some issues down the field. So
- 46:47Speaker 1: I think it's just I think it's brilliant the way
- 46:49Speaker 1: that the Rams are saying, you're going to play our game.
- 46:52Speaker 1: We're going to dictate the type of game that you're
- 46:54Speaker 1: going to play.
- 46:55Speaker 4: And I think having.
- 46:56Speaker 1: Two friends McVeigh and Kyle and Kyle Shanahan and having
- 47:02Speaker 1: him throw that thirteen out there at Shanahan, I think
- 47:04Speaker 1: that was also just a kind of a that's one
- 47:06Speaker 1: they'll kind of laugh about in the offseason. I don't
- 47:08Speaker 1: know that Shanahan laughs a whole lot, but they will
- 47:10Speaker 1: have them. They'll have a little conversation about that at
- 47:12Speaker 1: some point.
- 47:13Speaker 3: Well let's talk about this, because on the other side, Shanahan,
- 47:15Speaker 3: say what you will. They lost the game, but mac
- 47:18Speaker 3: Jones put on another impressive performance. Mac Jones is certainly
- 47:22Speaker 3: setting himself up as a reclamation project. But here is
- 47:26Speaker 3: where some of that reclamation project goes to the wayside.
- 47:30Speaker 3: You know, mac Jones signed a two year deal with
- 47:32Speaker 3: the forty nine is when he came on board. So
- 47:34Speaker 3: all of this good stuff where people are like, hey,
- 47:36Speaker 3: he's gonna be able to parlay this to something.
- 47:38Speaker 2: No he's not.
- 47:40Speaker 3: But are we going to have a quarterback competition in
- 47:43Speaker 3: San Francisco when brock Purdy's ready and available? Are we
- 47:48Speaker 3: getting to the point where we have to respect mac
- 47:51Speaker 3: Jones in that system where maybe just maybe not that
- 47:55Speaker 3: this buyer's remorse when it comes to brock Purdy, but
- 48:00Speaker 3: they even go to training camp, mag Jones did a
- 48:02Speaker 3: whole lot of playing and a lot of succeeding.
- 48:05Speaker 2: What does that look like for the Niners in the future.
- 48:08Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 48:09Speaker 1: You know, always I'm a big believer. One of my
- 48:11Speaker 1: biggest sticking points right now is the NFL has a
- 48:16Speaker 1: methodology where average to above average quarterbacks just because they're
- 48:21Speaker 1: next in the in the line is the queue. As
- 48:24Speaker 1: they would say in England, they just get this elite salary.
- 48:29Speaker 1: And I'm like, it doesn't happen in baseball and baseball
- 48:32Speaker 1: you're going to get what the true, truly what the
- 48:34Speaker 1: market bears. The market's bearing this amount just because it's
- 48:39Speaker 1: a hard to find position. And you had something I
- 48:42Speaker 1: think you actually wrote an article about, and I know
- 48:45Speaker 1: you and I talked about this, about who would be
- 48:47Speaker 1: the first team that would try to just rotate quarterbacks and.
- 48:49Speaker 4: Not look at quarterbacks almost like a college would look.
- 48:53Speaker 1: I think you wrote that article, and that's that's an
- 48:55Speaker 1: interesting philosophy. It's it's probably easier to discuss than implement.
- 49:00Speaker 1: But at the same time, Bucky, what happens when you
- 49:03Speaker 1: are Jacksonville and you plugged Trevor Trevor Lawrence never played
- 49:06Speaker 1: like an elite quarterback, but he's getting paid like it.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Kyler Murray, you were, You were ready to put stipulations
- 49:11Speaker 1: in his contract about video games and watching tape.
- 49:14Speaker 4: You thought that was gonna go well, and you give
- 49:17Speaker 4: him the money that he got.
- 49:19Speaker 1: And so I don't I don't know the last time
- 49:21Speaker 1: that an average quarterback got that elite money and performed
- 49:24Speaker 1: at a high level, performed to the standards of the contract.
- 49:27Speaker 4: It simply I don't think it ever happens.
- 49:30Speaker 1: But what I so, Rock Purdy got a big payday,
- 49:33Speaker 1: and so they're gonna have to pay him. I mean,
- 49:35Speaker 1: they're gonna have to play him I'm curious if San
- 49:39Speaker 1: Francisco doesn't try to dangle a little carried out to
- 49:42Speaker 1: the Jets who have all these draft picks right now,
- 49:44Speaker 1: say hey Jets, here's Daniel Jones two point zero, Matt Jones.
- 49:50Speaker 4: Yeah, man, it is not a great quarterback draft by
- 49:53Speaker 4: the look of things.
- 49:55Speaker 3: Hey, look, I don't we got time to get to
- 49:57Speaker 3: that on another podcast. Hey man, the people that are
- 50:00Speaker 3: trying to sell me on this twenty twenty six quarterback
- 50:03Speaker 3: class for the draft, Like I'm just writing my notes,
- 50:07Speaker 3: do not change.
- 50:09Speaker 2: Don't let TV change you when you get up there.
- 50:11Speaker 2: We're talking about these guys all the time.
- 50:14Speaker 3: Because Lance I don't see it, and because I don't
- 50:16Speaker 3: see it, each and every week they keep trying to
- 50:18Speaker 3: bring up somebody to do. We talked about Gary Nutsmer.
- 50:20Speaker 3: He got bitch last weekend against Bama, sat him down.
- 50:25Speaker 3: So what us So now the guys like your Mac Jones,
- 50:31Speaker 3: is your Daniel Jones is Those guys have value because
- 50:35Speaker 3: there's simply more jobs than people that can feel those jobs.
- 50:39Speaker 2: What are we going to do with quarterback? If you
- 50:41Speaker 2: have an issue?
- 50:42Speaker 4: Baker?
- 50:44Speaker 1: So the reclamation projects with reclamation success with Baker, with
- 50:49Speaker 1: Sam Donald so I knew my Sam Donald Gray was good, Bucky,
- 50:52Speaker 1: it just took like six seven years for him to
- 50:53Speaker 1: get there.
- 50:54Speaker 2: There's no inspiration date on it.
- 50:56Speaker 1: That's right, Baker, Sam Daniel Jones, it really does. Frankly,
- 51:02Speaker 1: everyone wants to know who's the next Daniel Jones instead
- 51:04Speaker 1: of drafting his quarterback draft. Well, that's where San Francisco
- 51:07Speaker 1: is going to have some They're gonna they're gonna find
- 51:11Speaker 1: that they're going to have a nice offer or two
- 51:15Speaker 1: for Mac Jones in the offseason. So that's gonna be
- 51:18Speaker 1: that's gonna be interesting because Max still has one year
- 51:21Speaker 1: left on that contract, as you mentioned, so he comes
- 51:23Speaker 1: at a very very favorable price. So he's either going
- 51:27Speaker 1: you got a chance to trade for Mac Jones and
- 51:28Speaker 1: you either get a bridge quarterback or you're giving him
- 51:31Speaker 1: one year to prove that he could be the next
- 51:32Speaker 1: potential Daniel Jones, which will run us into the Colts.
- 51:36Speaker 1: And I thought, my man, I was like, I was like, man,
- 51:39Speaker 1: I need to get up to Indianapolis and see Chris
- 51:41Speaker 1: Baalers nice house again because I'll before the season start
- 51:44Speaker 1: on my this might be my last shot, you know,
- 51:46Speaker 1: because I don't know what's going to happen this year.
- 51:48Speaker 1: But I'll be damned if all the pieces haven't finally
- 51:52Speaker 1: fallen in place, those lines that he's been drafting for years,
- 51:55Speaker 1: the wide receivers he's been accumulating, Jonathan Taylor with one
- 52:00Speaker 1: uncompetent quarterback, and frankly, I think some really good play
- 52:04Speaker 1: calling by Shane Steichen. It's come together now. There have
- 52:07Speaker 1: been signs the last couple of games that there's a
- 52:10Speaker 1: law of diminishing returns with Daniel Jones. If you ask
- 52:13Speaker 1: too much of them, the turnovers will start to crop up.
- 52:16Speaker 1: But Man is at an explosive.
- 52:18Speaker 3: Offense, explosive offense, and we've seen it come together. I
- 52:21Speaker 3: would say that bathers commitment to fielding, the all combined team,
- 52:26Speaker 3: all the guys with the measurables and all that is
- 52:28Speaker 3: coming together because they are fast, they are physical, and
- 52:31Speaker 3: when they got the right distributor turnovers and all it
- 52:34Speaker 3: works out.
- 52:35Speaker 2: Let's talk about this last game.
- 52:36Speaker 3: Let's talk about Atlanta Falcons and the Coals, because we're
- 52:39Speaker 3: talking about you got.
- 52:39Speaker 2: Bathered, hey man, the shoes real huh.
- 52:44Speaker 4: I'll tell you what, when you look at what the
- 52:46Speaker 4: Colts are doing right now.
- 52:47Speaker 1: The first thing that comes to my mind is why
- 52:49Speaker 1: can Jonathan Taylor not be MVP?
- 52:52Speaker 4: He is to me, the most valuable player.
- 52:54Speaker 1: And I get these arguments from Twitter, argument guys that
- 52:58Speaker 1: you can't look, the running back can never be the
- 53:00Speaker 1: most valuable. It's always the quarterback is the most valuable.
- 53:02Speaker 1: Let me tell you something, See how good the Colts
- 53:06Speaker 1: offense would be if if Jonathan Taylor wasn't a major
- 53:09Speaker 1: factor and they couldn't utilize that play action pass. Jonathan
- 53:12Speaker 1: Taylor is making Daniel Jones better. Jonathan Taylor is making
- 53:17Speaker 1: Shane Steiken better. Jonathan Taylor's success, to me is the
- 53:23Speaker 1: number one reason I know Daniel Jones is going to
- 53:25Speaker 1: get the love because he's the quarterback. But to me,
- 53:28Speaker 1: it all begins with the physicality and the ball control
- 53:32Speaker 1: and frankly, the explosiveness of Jonathan Taylor. And I hate
- 53:36Speaker 1: the idea that a running back cannot be an MVP
- 53:39Speaker 1: when I think he is the most valuable player, or
- 53:42Speaker 1: at least is in that discussion along with as you mentioned,
- 53:45Speaker 1: Stafford has really jumped up there. Drake may should be
- 53:47Speaker 1: in that conversation. Jonathan Taylor should be have a seat
- 53:51Speaker 1: at that table, in that discussion.
- 53:53Speaker 3: Look, he's done a really good job of getting them
- 53:56Speaker 3: up and going two hundred plus yards against a Falcon
- 54:00Speaker 3: is terrific. This explosive place six seven years into the league.
- 54:04Speaker 3: You're not supposed to be that fast running away from
- 54:07Speaker 3: defenders like he's doing.
- 54:08Speaker 2: And look, man, it's the Bell Cow effect. You have
- 54:11Speaker 2: such a talent.
- 54:12Speaker 3: A challenge dealing with the Colts because you got to
- 54:15Speaker 3: stop him first, no matter what we say, you got
- 54:18Speaker 3: to stop the run to set up everything else.
- 54:20Speaker 2: And so you can't stop him.
- 54:21Speaker 3: So now Ty Warren, Michael Pittman, Josh Downs, Alec Pearce,
- 54:26Speaker 3: they're one of their one on ones. On the backside,
- 54:28Speaker 3: that offensive line is beefy as physical. And then defensively,
- 54:32Speaker 3: lou Ana Roumo coming over maybe the most slept on
- 54:37Speaker 3: defensive coordinator because for whatever reason, the Beagles thought they
- 54:40Speaker 3: could get better than what they had in him. And
- 54:42Speaker 3: now you've given him some weapons, some playmakers. You make
- 54:45Speaker 3: a trade to get Sauce Guarden, and you put Sauce
- 54:47Speaker 3: out there, which eventually.
- 54:49Speaker 4: Gonna give them what you think of that deal.
- 54:53Speaker 2: So from the Jet.
- 54:54Speaker 3: Standpoint, and I love ag and I understand the fact
- 54:58Speaker 3: of having five first round picks. But we've seen how
- 55:02Speaker 3: hard it is for teams to turn picks into players
- 55:05Speaker 3: and those those upper levels. Now, if they can do it,
- 55:09Speaker 3: it'll be great, but we just haven't seen many teams
- 55:12Speaker 3: do it now. I will say a couple of years ago, Sauce,
- 55:15Speaker 3: Garret Wilson, Jermaine Johnson, where the three today took. They
- 55:18Speaker 3: had three first round picks, and two of those guys
- 55:21Speaker 3: were offensive and defensive Rookie of the year.
- 55:24Speaker 2: Sauce was a two time All Pro. So you get that.
- 55:28Speaker 3: But man, that's a lot of picks, and so you
- 55:30Speaker 3: can hoard them all trying to find a quarterback or whatever.
- 55:32Speaker 2: But that's gonna be tough.
- 55:34Speaker 3: But then they mess around and somehow won a game
- 55:36Speaker 3: against the Browns that we're not gonna talk about, but
- 55:38Speaker 3: they found a way to win the game. I just
- 55:40Speaker 3: think for the Colts, this was badly saying I'm all in.
- 55:43Speaker 3: I'm going all in, not just for this year, but
- 55:45Speaker 3: for the next few years. We'll figured got a way
- 55:48Speaker 3: to keep Daniel Jones. But the weapons that they have,
- 55:50Speaker 3: the firepart they have, they gonna be around for a minute.
- 55:53Speaker 1: Yeah, And that was and frankly, you know, the ironic
- 55:55Speaker 1: thing is Balorder has never really believed in running backs
- 55:58Speaker 1: I mean, sorry, wide receivers, terbacks in the first round.
- 56:01Speaker 1: Kind of philosophical thing going back to his time with
- 56:03Speaker 1: Jerry Angelo over in Chicago. And then he gives two
- 56:06Speaker 1: first rounders for a corner. You know, that's the irony,
- 56:09Speaker 1: But I think it's also a nod to the fact
- 56:11Speaker 1: that he thinks his roster is where it needs to
- 56:13Speaker 1: be and maybe the first round picks late in the
- 56:15Speaker 1: twenties won't have as much value as getting a position
- 56:19Speaker 1: they know for a fact they need badly. And Sharvari's
- 56:22Speaker 1: Ward is going to come back from concussion, so you're
- 56:25Speaker 1: gonna have wardback, You're gonna have Kenny Moore, you're gonna
- 56:27Speaker 1: have obviously, Sauce Gardner. I mean, man to go from
- 56:33Speaker 1: where the Colts were to where they are right now,
- 56:35Speaker 1: where this doesn't look like a flash in the pan.
- 56:37Speaker 1: Provided Daniel Jones can take care of the football, the
- 56:40Speaker 1: Colts are going to be a really tough out once
- 56:43Speaker 1: their secondary you know, gets healthy. I mean, I mean, look,
- 56:47Speaker 1: well they're really tough out right now, regardless.
- 56:49Speaker 3: I mean, that's the only thing that you worried about
- 56:51Speaker 3: By right, is the only thing that you worried about
- 56:53Speaker 3: with them is them being healthy enough to take advantage of.
- 56:56Speaker 2: The stuff that they have.
- 56:57Speaker 3: And as Daniel Jones is really coming back to earth
- 57:01Speaker 3: with the turnovers, can he manage those turnovers and not
- 57:05Speaker 3: give the ball away? But they're good enough where they
- 57:08Speaker 3: they can overcome it. Now, let's talk about quickly the
- 57:10Speaker 3: Atlanta Falcons. Michael Pennix didn't look great. And I know
- 57:15Speaker 3: we're only in kind we're in year two, but it's
- 57:19Speaker 3: kind of the end of his rookie season. What do
- 57:21Speaker 3: you think about the former first round quarterback in Atlanta.
- 57:25Speaker 4: He's right where I thought he'd be.
- 57:27Speaker 1: I had him behind Nix and May and Caleb and Jayden.
- 57:33Speaker 4: I wasn't as high on him as others.
- 57:35Speaker 1: I thought that Ryan Gruff's system, and I thought he
- 57:38Speaker 1: played really well in Washington. I was very bothered by
- 57:41Speaker 1: three years where he was. You know, he had three
- 57:44Speaker 1: seasons where he had seasoned Indian injuries that always concerned me.
- 57:48Speaker 1: There was some problems with him throwing accurately when he
- 57:52Speaker 1: got outside of the pocket on the run. He had
- 57:54Speaker 1: really low completion ratings, which kind of bothered me. And
- 57:59Speaker 1: I think you're seeing right now. He was late on
- 58:01Speaker 1: some throws yesterday and an out rolly through that it
- 58:04Speaker 1: was a deep out and got there so late the
- 58:06Speaker 1: receiver jumped caught it and he landed outside of the
- 58:09Speaker 1: white so he was like way out.
- 58:13Speaker 4: I'm like, man, that's that's got to come out quicker.
- 58:16Speaker 4: I look quickly. But you know, Drake London has Drake
- 58:21Speaker 4: London has been good.
- 58:21Speaker 1: I mean, he's got some weapons over there. But for me,
- 58:24Speaker 1: Pennis isn't really unlocking anything. He's not doing anything that
- 58:27Speaker 1: an average quarterback wouldn't do. And it's a shame because
- 58:32Speaker 1: you've got Vijon over there, You've got Drake London. Pitt's
- 58:35Speaker 1: still will flash and give you some you know, give
- 58:38Speaker 1: you some looks here and there. Tyler Algiers done a
- 58:41Speaker 1: nice job as a finisher when he gets inside the
- 58:44Speaker 1: red zone. So I don't know. I'm just not feeling
- 58:47Speaker 1: with with with Pinnis and he still needs time. Not
- 58:49Speaker 1: saying give up on Pinis, but I got to start
- 58:52Speaker 1: seeing some more flashes from Pinnis. I'm not seeing enough
- 58:54Speaker 1: flashes right now.
- 58:55Speaker 3: I thought that he would be doing a little more,
- 58:58Speaker 3: just being able to kind of like down in lock
- 59:00Speaker 3: it and give them Explosi development and whatever. He's showing
- 59:03Speaker 3: flashes thought, of course the season just didn't have a
- 59:04Speaker 3: great performance yesterday, and I think when you're Atlanta, like
- 59:10Speaker 3: everyone kind of has to get it done. Now, not
- 59:12Speaker 3: saying that a Raheem Morris's job is on the line,
- 59:15Speaker 3: but I just know in this in this league.
- 59:18Speaker 2: And you don't have a whole lot of time to
- 59:20Speaker 2: kind of figure it out.
- 59:21Speaker 3: Maybe you can turn around, maybe you can find his way,
- 59:23Speaker 3: Maybe Zach Robinson can find a way to kind of
- 59:25Speaker 3: integrate everything into the package. Because they're talented enough to
- 59:28Speaker 3: get it done, and they're playing better on defense than
- 59:30Speaker 3: we ever imagine. They let a game slip that they
- 59:33Speaker 3: had they just needed to finish it out and they
- 59:35Speaker 3: couldn't get it.
- 59:35Speaker 2: They couldn't get it done.
- 59:36Speaker 4: And I think with Penis it's really going to be
- 59:38Speaker 4: about consistency. I mean that completion rate.
- 59:42Speaker 1: It started in Washington's seventy six point nine in that game,
- 59:45Speaker 1: then sixty two five against Buffalo, and then since then
- 59:48Speaker 1: fifty five three, fifty nine to five, and then against
- 59:50Speaker 1: the Colts forty two nine, then no third down conversions.
- 59:54Speaker 1: It was Yeah, it was a it was a rough game,
- 59:57Speaker 1: and the Falcons, as you mentioned, wa better defensively than
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: we thought. And I thought the Falcons were gonna end
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: up being a serious threat to Tampa. But the Saints
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: really good win beating out I was I was hoping
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: Carolina was kind of turning the corner. I'm cheering for them.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: I want to see them do well, but that was
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: not a good one.
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: They're losing that one at home.
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: The Panthers, they finally get you excited about who they
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: are and what they could be, then they lay in
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: an egg, like the.
- 1:00:27Speaker 4: NFL in a nutshell.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: This is why the NFL is is this way. Is
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: any given Sunday is a real phrase that actually has meaning.
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: I mean just it just drives you crazy.
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: Or any given Thursday, or any given Sunday, any given Monday,
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: or any given Saturday late in the season when we
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: also have Saturday games general we all put together.
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: Yeah, it just drives you crazy because that should have
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: been one where they they should I mean, you would
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: think that they would be able to stack it together
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: and started to get some wins. But that's the league, man,
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: that's the league.
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: Just crazy. But you know what else is the league,
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: lan Z is in a league of his own.
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: Man, I appreciate you stepping in for the boys, chatting
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: up with your boy, just talking about all those things.
- 1:01:13Speaker 3: But you know what, I really get excited tomorrow. We
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: got read what's coming on. He's will talking about the
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: Ricky draft whatever.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: That look like.
- 1:01:19Speaker 3: I don't even know if my guy's gonna play, but
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: no one cares, But I'm excited. Lance says, You're beginning
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: to dig into this draft class and look at some
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: of these dudes.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: And we may not have quarterbacks, but boy, there's some
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: talent though.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: Oh, I'll be looking at rets quarterback from Indiana sometime soon.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: I'm sure you're gonna hear a lot about that went
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: over Penn State. I'm sure that's gonna come up on
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: the show.
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: I mean, yes, it's gonna come up. Yeah.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: I can't wait for you to dig into Mendoze because
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: I'm sitting here trying to figure out, like, man.
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: Is Mendoza for real? Are we for real?
- 1:01:49Speaker 4: We might be?
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: I'm waiting to see it's Ty Simpson for real, It's
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: Ty Simpson out? You really want to be that guy
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: who plays one year college football?
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: Come out?
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: Not a great success rate, that's all the stuff.
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: We'll get you down the road.
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: But hey, man so much man, Hey, this is mooda sticks.
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: I'm going Brooks this landesdy Until next time we'll catch
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: you with you
