- 0:03Speaker 1: Things that make me sad, news breaking two minutes after
- 0:07Speaker 1: a show, Things that make prats danced, which is why
- 0:12Speaker 1: some people watch the show. I kid you not, news
- 0:15Speaker 1: breaking minutes before a show.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Finally, finally, yeah, finally, we have a Nolan Arnaudo trade,
- 0:23Speaker 2: which was supposed to happen last year.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Let's hit it. Let's just let's hit it as soon
- 0:26Speaker 1: as we can so we can just get right into it.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Chuck it out, he go.
- 0:34Speaker 2: If you're a Cardinal fan Nolan Arnaudo, I mean, Listen's
- 0:37Speaker 2: been a garula nice player for a long time. People
- 0:40Speaker 2: are starting to wonder whether he's on the decline. But
- 0:44Speaker 2: the Arizona Diamondbacks don't believe. So now, they didn't give
- 0:46Speaker 2: up a ton Jack Martinez, right handed pitcher, but I
- 0:51Speaker 2: think the Cardinals are eating thirty thirty one a forty
- 0:55Speaker 2: two million. Oh so they two years they just kind
- 0:57Speaker 2: of wanted him out and the area is so the
- 1:01Speaker 2: Cardinals saves some money. Jack Martinez gets to go to
- 1:04Speaker 2: the Cardinals and there you have it. So thirty one
- 1:08Speaker 2: of the forty two Okay, But.
- 1:10Speaker 1: For Arizona, I mean in baseball money, that ain't a
- 1:15Speaker 1: lot five mil this year and six mil next year
- 1:18Speaker 1: for a.
- 1:18Speaker 2: Guy that's still productive. Defensively, he's still good, and offensively
- 1:23Speaker 2: he's still productive bust, but he's not. Listen, he's not
- 1:27Speaker 2: the Nolan Arnado that we came to expect for about
- 1:29Speaker 2: ten years. But he's still a good player.
- 1:32Speaker 1: He can still pick it at third. He's not he's
- 1:34Speaker 1: not as good as he was no, but he's still
- 1:36Speaker 1: what an above average defender and close to league average bat.
- 1:41Speaker 1: So that's what that gets paid on the marketplace. Diamondbacks.
- 1:44Speaker 1: We're in the running, and we don't know how much,
- 1:46Speaker 1: but in the running at least to some extent for
- 1:48Speaker 1: Alex Bregman, and we quickly see this pivot crats to
- 1:52Speaker 1: go get themselves. A third baseman who is super well respected,
- 1:56Speaker 1: wants to play every day gamer, will set up great
- 2:00Speaker 1: tone and join a very talented infield. One of the
- 2:03Speaker 1: best infields in baseball in my mind. Perdomo was a
- 2:06Speaker 1: top five MVP finisher last year and Cautel Marte is
- 2:10Speaker 1: arguably his best second basement in baseball.
- 2:12Speaker 3: I mean, they're tremendous up the middle. Let's make sure
- 2:16Speaker 3: everybody knows that Nolan Ernado's going to give the Diamondbacks.
- 2:20Speaker 3: Everything that he has, how much is it?
- 2:24Speaker 2: You never know?
- 2:25Speaker 3: Look what George Springer did this year, everyone was like decline.
- 2:29Speaker 3: He signed a contract with the Blue Jays, he goes
- 2:32Speaker 3: into a different lineup. Who was protecting him in the
- 2:36Speaker 3: Cardinals lineup? Was he expected to be the guy in
- 2:40Speaker 3: the Cardinals lineup? Yes?
- 2:41Speaker 2: I get it.
- 2:42Speaker 3: Contraras was there, but like he has a little bit
- 2:46Speaker 3: more around him. Perdomo put up the year that he had.
- 2:48Speaker 3: He I mean offensively, he took giant leaps last year.
- 2:53Speaker 3: Kutel Marte is an MVP candidate. I think Corbyn Carrol
- 2:56Speaker 3: if he takes away like a month and a half
- 2:59Speaker 3: of the last two seasons, he's an MVP candidate. So now,
- 3:04Speaker 3: all of a sudden, if you have Nolan Ernado hitting
- 3:06Speaker 3: fifth or sixth, there's a lot less expected of him.
- 3:10Speaker 3: I guess this is the player side of me thinks,
- 3:14Speaker 3: why not? Why couldn't he be you know, he was
- 3:16Speaker 3: a little bit above average offensively, Why couldn't he be
- 3:22Speaker 3: you know, a one ten ops plus one fifteen ops
- 3:27Speaker 3: plus with the same defense, Because I don't think his
- 3:29Speaker 3: defense is going to decline like crazy here, and he
- 3:33Speaker 3: knows the national League West.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Yeah, but here's the thing, he hasn't He wasn't league
- 3:37Speaker 2: average last year he was eighty seven ope les plus,
- 3:40Speaker 2: So it's not about who was hitting behind him. The
- 3:43Speaker 2: problem is when the Cardinals got Nolan Arnado years ago,
- 3:47Speaker 2: he was a twenty twenty one. They got him after
- 3:49Speaker 2: the COVID year. He was good. He was really good.
- 3:52Speaker 2: He was a one to fifty one that year or
- 3:54Speaker 2: one nineteen twenty one, twenty twenty two he was a
- 3:56Speaker 2: one to fifty one ops. It was one o eight.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Then twenty four he was one h two. So the
- 4:02Speaker 2: numbers have kind of slowly gone down a little bit.
- 4:05Speaker 2: And then last year he was in eighty seven and
- 4:08Speaker 2: he only had twelve homers. The problem with him and
- 4:10Speaker 2: the Cardinals people say it is he's lost his power,
- 4:13Speaker 2: Like he'll hit you some singles, but he has no power,
- 4:16Speaker 2: so you throw him into this Diamondbacks line up. He
- 4:18Speaker 2: doesn't strike out a lot, which is nice for the Diamondbacks.
- 4:21Speaker 2: He does take his walks, he puts the ball in play.
- 4:24Speaker 2: He's not a high he's not a ton of an
- 4:25Speaker 2: OHIGOOBP guy. His defense will be solid and if you
- 4:29Speaker 2: put him in the six, five, six, seven range in
- 4:32Speaker 2: that lineup. I think he'll be fine. I think especially
- 4:34Speaker 2: going to Arizona from Saint Louis, which listen, in Arizona
- 4:37Speaker 2: is a better place to hit than Saint Louis. Power
- 4:39Speaker 2: might go up a little bit. He gets some games
- 4:41Speaker 2: in Colorado, he gets some I think this is a
- 4:44Speaker 2: nice move for the Diamondbacks. Listen, they were allegedly rumored
- 4:47Speaker 2: to be in on Bregman. They clearly weren't going to
- 4:50Speaker 2: the numbers that Pregnant got. So this is not a
- 4:52Speaker 2: bad fallback option for the Diambacks. It's only two years.
- 4:55Speaker 2: It's only two years.
- 4:57Speaker 1: I agree. I think that's fine. I feel like we
- 4:59Speaker 1: actually call this one out. We were like, yeah, if
- 5:01Speaker 1: you got him for I don't know, three, four or
- 5:03Speaker 1: five million bucks, yeah great. I mean this is still
- 5:07Speaker 1: a productive big league player. He's not a star anymore,
- 5:09Speaker 1: but this is a productive big league player with a
- 5:11Speaker 1: lot of dirt and his spikes, who knows how to
- 5:13Speaker 1: win some ball games. We got a super chat here.
- 5:17Speaker 1: Tim is cooking for us in Saint Louis Is from Brandon,
- 5:22Speaker 1: I'm ready for JJ Weatherhold at third sucks. We're gonna
- 5:25Speaker 1: lose s BRender Donovan two, but opens up second full
- 5:28Speaker 1: time for Nolan Gorman. Where's Donovan going super Chat, We
- 5:33Speaker 1: don't know yet. Actually, perhaps the shirt I'm wearing today
- 5:38Speaker 1: Giants perhaps splash territory Giants respond well.
- 5:41Speaker 2: The question for me is Donovan was supposed to be
- 5:43Speaker 2: traded a long time ago. As you know, we all
- 5:47Speaker 2: thought Donov would be traded for Arnatto.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Can tell Marte was supposed to tread.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Too, but then they pivot into are keeping him. We
- 5:53Speaker 2: could be pretty good.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Teams are stingy with their prospects.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Teams are stingy with stars too.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I think Donovan's going to get traded because I think
- 6:00Speaker 1: they are going to be enough teams that feel like
- 6:02Speaker 1: they didn't do enough. So I mean, I think the
- 6:05Speaker 1: Red Sox could be in play for him. I think
- 6:08Speaker 1: that we've already heard about the Royals, the Giants. There's
- 6:12Speaker 1: another team that Mariners. Yes, so there's a market there.
- 6:16Speaker 2: He's good for what hein. Bloom is good at what.
- 6:19Speaker 2: I'll give him Bloom credit for this. I mean, remember
- 6:21Speaker 2: he had to trade Looky Betts. Yeah right, I mean
- 6:24Speaker 2: he and he didn't although the return wasn't that great
- 6:27Speaker 2: for what he got from Loky Betts, but he's very
- 6:29Speaker 2: able to find and places to send guys. At other
- 6:35Speaker 2: times they don't think they're tradable. Like Rookie Betts. He
- 6:39Speaker 2: made that he got traded. He has now had to
- 6:41Speaker 2: trade Arnado right on the job. Right he traded Sunny Gray,
- 6:44Speaker 2: he traded mostly Contreras. These are all guys that had
- 6:47Speaker 2: no trade clauses, and he convinced them all like, hey, guys,
- 6:49Speaker 2: we're not going to be very good. You guys should
- 6:51Speaker 2: all get traded. Gray and controus both went to the
- 6:53Speaker 2: same place in Boston. Arnatto goes to the Diamondbacks. It's
- 6:58Speaker 2: it's fascinating. Hei Bloom is Heine bloom Is. I love
- 7:01Speaker 2: Heine Bloom. We had him on at the winter meetings.
- 7:03Speaker 2: He's awesome. I think he's great at these making these moves.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Now the question for him Bloom is can he take
- 7:08Speaker 2: it to the next level and actually build a winning
- 7:10Speaker 2: roster and then be able to oversee it once they
- 7:13Speaker 2: get good?

- 8:18Speaker 1: The Cardinals want heim Bloom to do exactly what he
- 8:21Speaker 1: did with the Red Sox. They're like, yep, look at
- 8:24Speaker 1: that core. That's what we want. Go figure that out
- 8:27Speaker 1: for us, And that's what he's working on.
- 8:28Speaker 3: Yeah, that's infrastructure. That's infrastructure. And I think the Red
- 8:32Speaker 3: Sox so I was there in twenty one and I
- 8:36Speaker 3: saw some of the changes that he made, changes that
- 8:40Speaker 3: he was very surprised coming from the Rays. Wow, the
- 8:44Speaker 3: Red Sox don't have this. Wow, the Red Sox don't
- 8:46Speaker 3: have this analytics system. Yes, they had their own analytics system,
- 8:50Speaker 3: but they had you know, it was very like, it
- 8:54Speaker 3: was very private to the coaches in front office, and
- 8:57Speaker 3: the players are like, I want it. I wanted I
- 8:59Speaker 3: want it. Other teams are getting this, and so he
- 9:01Speaker 3: started kind of developing that infrastructure change. That's all we've
- 9:06Speaker 3: heard about the Cardinals for twenty years. They've kind of
- 9:09Speaker 3: been like, Hey, we're successful, why do we need more
- 9:13Speaker 3: of this? Why do we need more of that? And
- 9:15Speaker 3: then all of a sudden they woke up and they
- 9:17Speaker 3: were eight years behind, you know, knowing some people from
- 9:20Speaker 3: behind the scenes and the Cardinals they were years behind
- 9:23Speaker 3: on some of that stuff because they had certain things
- 9:27Speaker 3: established in the big leagues. The minor leagues are just like, Okay,
- 9:31Speaker 3: we'll just keep status quo, status quo. So he has
- 9:34Speaker 3: to change that infrastructure and what people need to understand too.
- 9:37Speaker 3: He's been at it for a year talking to him
- 9:40Speaker 3: outside of the show, because I wasn't on the day
- 9:42Speaker 3: that he was on. There's been a lot of change
- 9:46Speaker 3: that's already like, hey, you know what, we can keep
- 9:49Speaker 3: some of these coaches, but we need to add more
- 9:50Speaker 3: in this area. We've seen success added in this area.
- 9:54Speaker 3: And so for me, if I'm a Cardinal fan, I say,
- 9:58Speaker 3: heck yeah, time Bloom, Heck yeah, we got all this
- 10:01Speaker 3: money off of our roster. It's almost like getting free agents,
- 10:04Speaker 3: Like they freed up this money off the roster. And
- 10:06Speaker 3: I don't think the Cardinals are going to spend it,
- 10:09Speaker 3: but I think hein Bloom. His one chance of setting
- 10:13Speaker 3: an organization back on the right track was with the
- 10:16Speaker 3: Red Sox, and you look where they're at now.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Yeah, they're laking less money this year to the Cardinals.
- 10:25Speaker 1: They're part of that.
- 10:27Speaker 2: The one thing about the Cardinals is they've always drawn
- 10:30Speaker 2: really well at Bush Stadium, not anymore, not in this
- 10:32Speaker 2: past year they didn't. And now this year they're signaling
- 10:35Speaker 2: again they're not going to be any good. Cardinal fans
- 10:37Speaker 2: will come out if you're decent, if heck, if you're
- 10:40Speaker 2: five hundred Cardinal fans That's one of the craziest plays
- 10:43Speaker 2: I ever played. You can be ozer for fifty and
- 10:45Speaker 2: they'll give you a standing ovation. And because they're like, oh,
- 10:48Speaker 2: we'll get it hit eventually, most teams are booing the
- 10:50Speaker 2: crap out of you there. They don't, right, but they
- 10:52Speaker 2: don't come out if you're not saying you're going to
- 10:54Speaker 2: be competitive. And for the last about twenty years, the
- 10:57Speaker 2: Cardinals have signal they're going to be really competitive. And
- 11:00Speaker 2: this is the first year where they really kind of
- 11:02Speaker 2: just said, you know what, let's give him Bloom a
- 11:04Speaker 2: chance to cook. We're going to trade most of our
- 11:06Speaker 2: guys and we're going to start over and let him
- 11:08Speaker 2: build this roster the way he wants to build it.
- 11:10Speaker 2: And it sucks if you're a Cardinals fan, but I
- 11:14Speaker 2: think you guys have one of the right guys in
- 11:17Speaker 2: the right place in charge to help this go faster
- 11:20Speaker 2: than some other teams can do it.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Hey, they couldn't trade an olanar and Otto last year.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Like you mentioned, it took him fifteen months to pull
- 11:25Speaker 1: this off. Remember they had a deal to Houston and
- 11:28Speaker 1: they ended up Houston pivoting quickly to Christian Walker. They
- 11:33Speaker 1: couldn't find a spot for an Olan and he Zach paratees, Yeah,
- 11:37Speaker 1: they added him too, that's true. And then apparently this
- 11:40Speaker 1: time around, according to Katie Wu, who writes for The
- 11:43Speaker 1: Athletic and is a host now on Dodgers' territory, but
- 11:47Speaker 1: it is very connected with the Cardinals, she said that
- 11:49Speaker 1: the talks this time around were like, Hey, we need
- 11:52Speaker 1: more flexibility on your no trade list, and in exchange,
- 11:56Speaker 1: we will be more flexible about how much money in
- 11:58Speaker 1: the contract we eat so that we can make sure
- 12:01Speaker 1: a deal gets done. They were not going to go
- 12:03Speaker 1: into another season with Nolan there. It's not like he
- 12:06Speaker 1: was bad for the club. They just want to move on.
- 12:08Speaker 1: They want to get the youth movement going, they want
- 12:10Speaker 1: to save money. They're not a playoff team this year,
- 12:12Speaker 1: and so credit to both sides for agreeing to make sense,
- 12:15Speaker 1: get this done, send him to a spot that he's
- 12:18Speaker 1: probably pretty happy with. As we talked about many times
- 12:20Speaker 1: in the show, most guys are a West Coast guy,
- 12:22Speaker 1: go to Arizona. He's a West Coast guy.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Arizon. Other thing is when you can live and play
- 12:26Speaker 2: in the same thing for spring training and the regular season.
- 12:29Speaker 2: And let's not forget I don't know where Nolan lives
- 12:32Speaker 2: in the offseason, if he still lives in California, But
- 12:33Speaker 2: if you can move, he can buy a place in
- 12:35Speaker 2: Arizona and live there all year round and never have
- 12:39Speaker 2: to move, which is one of the huge, huge perks
- 12:43Speaker 2: of the Diamondbacks to people. And excuse me, it is
- 12:46Speaker 2: one of the wonders why Tampa used to do this.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Tampa doesn't do it anymore. But Tampa Bay used to
- 12:54Speaker 2: have their spring training right next to the TRUP. Now
- 12:57Speaker 2: that's in Port Charlotte, obviously, but if you can do that,
- 13:01Speaker 2: it is a huge perk, especially if you want to
- 13:03Speaker 2: try and sign free agent guys. The Rays don't do
- 13:06Speaker 2: that obviously the same level of the Diamondbacks do.
- 13:08Speaker 1: But it helps.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Tell my wife is a player. Hey, honey, guess what,
- 13:18Speaker 2: you don't have to move for spring training. You don't
- 13:21Speaker 2: have to move for the season. You just have to
- 13:22Speaker 2: find one place for the whole year or for multiple years,
- 13:26Speaker 2: and you can buy that house and you save the
- 13:28Speaker 2: spring training move you spring, save the spring training money,
- 13:31Speaker 2: You save the headache that usually falls on not the
- 13:33Speaker 2: player but the significant other of the player, and the
- 13:36Speaker 2: kids don't have to move their stuff they can go
- 13:38Speaker 2: to school year round in one place. It's a huge thing.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Man INSIDEED insider and FT insider Robert Murray reporting the
- 13:50Speaker 1: Mets have offered fifty million dollars per season to Kyle
- 13:55Speaker 1: Tucker on a short term contract. We don't know the years,
- 13:58Speaker 1: but fifty million dollars, didn't We talk to Ken earlier
- 14:02Speaker 1: and he was waiting to Will Salmon on maybe three years.
- 14:07Speaker 1: So if we want to guess maybe three years one fifty.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Is there opt outs?
- 14:12Speaker 1: There's definitely opt outs.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, why would guy sign that entered the
- 14:16Speaker 2: wuld you just take one year fifty, have a good year,
- 14:18Speaker 2: and then then redo it like everyone else has done.
- 14:20Speaker 1: What if the Blue Jays are offering three hundred? Do
- 14:23Speaker 1: you want three years?
- 14:24Speaker 2: Again?
- 14:25Speaker 1: Trust years three hundred?
- 14:26Speaker 2: How much do you trust yourself?
- 14:28Speaker 1: What would you do yourself? What would you do? Okay?
- 14:31Speaker 2: If I had six years three hundred on the table
- 14:33Speaker 2: and three years one.
- 14:34Speaker 1: Fifty, well I'll say like eight years three hundred because
- 14:37Speaker 1: otherwise the AAV doesn't match up. Yeah, but but eight
- 14:40Speaker 1: years three hundred or three years one fifty.
- 14:46Speaker 3: I take the eight years, crats, it's going to be
- 14:50Speaker 3: more like ten years three hundred. I would take the
- 14:53Speaker 3: ten years three hundred. Like guy's been hurting, the guy's missed,
- 14:58Speaker 3: he played hurt. He's like, well that didn't work out.
- 15:01Speaker 3: I was having an awesome year and then I had
- 15:03Speaker 3: to play through the injury. And the year before he
- 15:06Speaker 3: was having MVP start to the year and then he
- 15:09Speaker 3: got hurt. I'm not saying don't bet on yourself. It's
- 15:12Speaker 3: not at all saying don't you believe in yourself. But
- 15:15Speaker 3: anybody that says I'll just go one year deals if
- 15:17Speaker 3: you get fifty million a year for the next ten years, absolutely,
- 15:22Speaker 3: but three hundred million, three hundred million for ten years, yes.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Please agreed. Agreed. By the way, can we just spreading rumors?
- 15:30Speaker 2: A little thing in a jigger front end a fee
- 15:32Speaker 2: that you guys call it front end? Is that chunky
- 15:34Speaker 2: peanut butter? Because nobody really likes chunky peanut butter.
- 15:36Speaker 1: They if you ever request smooth, then you can make
- 15:39Speaker 1: that request.
- 15:40Speaker 2: It likes chunky. Nobody like because they get the little
- 15:42Speaker 2: chunks get stuck in your teeth and stuff like chunky
- 15:44Speaker 2: peanut butter is not. Where's that guy? I like smooth?
- 15:47Speaker 2: I agree, like Delicio smooth.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Delicious. Not that I picked chunky, but chunky is still
- 15:53Speaker 3: delicious everybody.
- 15:55Speaker 2: But it gets stuck in your teeth and then you
- 15:56Speaker 2: got to get a tooth pick. It's just it's not.
- 15:58Speaker 2: It's not where's that it's good, It's not where it's at.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Is the market telling us that they feel as if
- 16:06Speaker 1: Kyle Tucker still has to prove something.
- 16:08Speaker 2: Yes, because the last few years he's been hurt and
- 16:11Speaker 2: he had a no. It is telling us that it
- 16:14Speaker 2: is if he hasn't gotten the ten year, four hundred
- 16:16Speaker 2: million dollars whatever it is that they were supposed to
- 16:17Speaker 2: talk about that Everyone said he thought he would get
- 16:20Speaker 2: going into the offseason, and if he has to settle
- 16:23Speaker 2: for a short term deal. It told Pete Alonzo wasn't there.
- 16:26Speaker 2: It told Alex pregman O one there, told Matt Chavana
- 16:28Speaker 2: won there, told Blake Snell it wasn't there. Like all
- 16:31Speaker 2: these guys. It's told that the marketsaw there. Like Kratz
- 16:36Speaker 2: talked about earlier with Ken Rosenthal, you gotta take what
- 16:39Speaker 2: you get. And if you can get three one fifty
- 16:43Speaker 2: with opt out after year one, a year two, and
- 16:45Speaker 2: you can go two years and get one hundred and
- 16:46Speaker 2: then be thirty one years old and maybe get another
- 16:48Speaker 2: four or five year deal. If there's nothing else out there,
- 16:52Speaker 2: you grab that and you go go to Fort Saint
- 16:55Speaker 2: Lucy and smile.
- 16:56Speaker 1: I still think the blue Jays have a longer term
- 16:59Speaker 1: offer going his way. I don't think the Blue Jays
- 17:01Speaker 1: are operating like the Mets and the Dodgers where they
- 17:03Speaker 1: do the short term AAV and the contract looks like
- 17:09Speaker 1: an opt out situation. So I know, you guys say
- 17:14Speaker 1: he was hurt right two years ago, I get it.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Seventy eight games, that's about half of the season. Although
- 17:20Speaker 1: using metrics that front office is like, I know you
- 17:22Speaker 1: guys were playing the war game all day yesterday. He
- 17:25Speaker 1: was almost a five win player in the season that
- 17:28Speaker 1: he was hurt. Ten win players insane, right, And that
- 17:30Speaker 1: was the season that he was hurt. In the seasons
- 17:32Speaker 1: before that, he was pretty solid games played and a
- 17:35Speaker 1: five plus win player one fifty seven fifty one. This
- 17:38Speaker 1: past season, I know he dealt with what was it,
- 17:40Speaker 1: the heel calf. One hundred and thirty six games played,
- 17:44Speaker 1: five hundred and ninety seven played appearances, two sixty six average,
- 17:48Speaker 1: three seventy seven on base four sixty four slugging eight
- 17:50Speaker 1: forty one ops one forty three ops plus, don't discount
- 17:54Speaker 1: that the Cubs ball park played very pitcher friendly this
- 17:57Speaker 1: past season. It's not like looked and said, oh man,
- 18:01Speaker 1: this guy's got to prove it. I mean, Alex Reigman
- 18:05Speaker 1: didn't have to prove it. Kyle market tells much better
- 18:07Speaker 1: season than him, and he's younger than him. So why
- 18:09Speaker 1: does Kyle Tucker have to prove himself after an age
- 18:11Speaker 1: twenty eight season like that?
- 18:13Speaker 2: Because the market tells him he does? Okay, that's why.
- 18:16Speaker 2: There's no other reason he shouldn't have to. But if
- 18:19Speaker 2: the market dictates, the market dictates what you were.
- 18:22Speaker 1: So you have a one year contract to prove it,
- 18:25Speaker 1: and you're going to go to a team that is
- 18:26Speaker 1: in a what at least top ten pitchers ballpark and
- 18:32Speaker 1: just lost quite a bit of AMMO. I'm not saying
- 18:38Speaker 1: they're bad. Obviously the Mets should be a contender, but
- 18:41Speaker 1: they certainly have lost quite a few pieces. Yeah, you've
- 18:43Speaker 1: got so, you've got Lindor. But is that the selection
- 18:46Speaker 1: that you make in a high.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Pressure that your best opportunity?
- 18:49Speaker 1: Yes, I don't think that's his best opport I think
- 18:52Speaker 1: Rogers something out there similar and the blue Jays. Here's
- 18:56Speaker 1: the thing, And I've said this multiple times and I
- 18:58Speaker 1: continue to believe this because Kyle Tucker not want to
- 19:00Speaker 1: go to Toronto. I have it in my head. They
- 19:03Speaker 1: definitely have the best offer, and it's a longer term offer.
- 19:06Speaker 1: I don't know how long, but there's definitely something there.
- 19:09Speaker 1: I don't think the blue Jays fuck around. Do you
- 19:15Speaker 1: tell me I'm wrong? I don't.
- 19:16Speaker 2: I don't think here.
- 19:17Speaker 1: I don't think it's like, oh, well, the blue Jays
- 19:19Speaker 1: only threw him three Okay, If.
- 19:21Speaker 2: It's not the blue Jays or the Mets and who else,
- 19:23Speaker 2: well that he's don't seem interested.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Those three teams are clearly there's a third involved, the Mets,
- 19:29Speaker 1: the Dodgers, and the blue Jays.
- 19:31Speaker 2: The Dodgers don't have a history of throwing long term
- 19:32Speaker 2: contracts out there, so I don't think that he's the.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Dodgers doing the same thing as Mets. They're saying, hey,
- 19:37Speaker 1: if you want to come here, we'll pay you a
- 19:38Speaker 1: lot for a season, and then you hit free agency again,
- 19:40Speaker 1: we'll give you one, two or three years. That's probably
- 19:43Speaker 1: what they're saying. The Mets are going hey, I mean,
- 19:45Speaker 1: here's my guess. Ready, Dodgers are throwing two or three
- 19:47Speaker 1: years at I don't know, forty ish a year. Mets
- 19:50Speaker 1: are like, cool, we love the Dodgers. We want to
- 19:52Speaker 1: do what they're doing. We'll do three years fifty MILLI year.
- 19:55Speaker 1: And then I think he's had an offer, or at
- 19:57Speaker 1: least a conversation about an offer from the Blue Jays
- 20:00Speaker 1: for a while now about a longer term contract. Kratz,
- 20:03Speaker 1: what do you think?
- 20:05Speaker 3: I think if it is in this range, if it's
- 20:08Speaker 3: fifty million dollars for one not one year, but if
- 20:12Speaker 3: it's fifty million for three years, I don't see how
- 20:15Speaker 3: the Mets. I don't see how the Mets take this down,
- 20:17Speaker 3: because my assumption would be the Dodgers would say, heyo,
- 20:21Speaker 3: you're moving over to left field. We were willing to
- 20:24Speaker 3: put twenty million into Michael Conforto for a single season.
- 20:30Speaker 3: We'll definitely do a single season type of contract and
- 20:34Speaker 3: put you in right field. I think it's so to
- 20:37Speaker 3: me if this is where he's at and he doesn't
- 20:39Speaker 3: want to take say seven years, two hundred and twenty
- 20:45Speaker 3: from the Blue Jays, just speculating, just questioning, then I mean,
- 20:52Speaker 3: I think it's I think the Dodgers would take this down.
- 20:54Speaker 3: I think the Dodgers would take it down over the Mets, don't.
- 20:57Speaker 3: I don't think. I don't think that number could get
- 21:00Speaker 3: too high for the met for the Dodgers in a
- 21:03Speaker 3: one year thing. And I think that's where he would
- 21:06Speaker 3: where he would My guess is that's where he would
- 21:09Speaker 3: want to go over.
- 21:11Speaker 2: The Mets.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Front offices do a great job of analyzing and really
- 21:17Speaker 1: picking apart players.
- 21:18Speaker 2: Right.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Oh, this part's great, but we hate this part of him.
- 21:21Speaker 1: I mean that's common, that's what they do, especially nowadays
- 21:24Speaker 1: in free agency with almost everyone. There are two players
- 21:27Speaker 1: in the sport that have about an even strikeout to
- 21:30Speaker 1: walk ratio over the last two years with the five
- 21:32Speaker 1: hundred plus slug percentage. It's Kyle Tucker and Wan Sota.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Wan Soto received a lot of love last offseason. What
- 21:40Speaker 1: am I missing here? You think it's just injury related.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Teams are not trusting the durability suddenly over the past
- 21:46Speaker 1: couple of years. It's not like he didn't play last year.
- 21:50Speaker 1: I mean almost six hundred played appearances.
- 21:54Speaker 3: I don't know collusion.
- 21:56Speaker 2: I don't know why he's not getting the money.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Just doesn't have the suitors right now.
- 22:01Speaker 2: I don't know. Yeah, sometimes it comes down and who's
- 22:03Speaker 2: after you?
- 22:03Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 22:04Speaker 2: I wish I knew the answer that's got because I
- 22:06Speaker 2: want every player to get every dollar they can.
- 22:09Speaker 1: This is a confusing one for me.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Okay, I don't Okay, I don't see it.
- 22:19Speaker 3: I don't You can you can make any any reason
- 22:22Speaker 3: to say yes, he's not worth it. You made reasons.
- 22:25Speaker 3: AJ made some very valid points of why Jan Soto
- 22:28Speaker 3: shouldn't get the money that he got. It takes one
- 22:32Speaker 3: owner to say yes, I'll go ahead. You know, before
- 22:37Speaker 3: Soto signed, we were like, come on, over seven hundred million.
- 22:42Speaker 3: That's a crazy number, Like, how can you lock up
- 22:44Speaker 3: one guy for over seven hundred minute? How can you
- 22:46Speaker 3: give Kyle Tucker four hundred million dollars? Like to me,
- 22:51Speaker 3: I I truly thought he was a ten year, three
- 22:55Speaker 3: hundred and fifty three hundred and forty three hundred and
- 22:57Speaker 3: fifty million dollar type of player. That's that's what I thought.
- 23:01Speaker 3: That's what I thought. The consistency was plays an all
- 23:03Speaker 3: around game. People say he's hurt, I'd be like, all right,
- 23:06Speaker 3: well where else are you going to get this high?
- 23:08Speaker 3: Of a ceiling from any player, and right now, teams
- 23:13Speaker 3: are not teams are not bouncing in that category. And
- 23:16Speaker 3: I think your first question was do you think teams
- 23:19Speaker 3: don't don't believe in him? Or I forget exactly what
- 23:22Speaker 3: you said, Scott, but to me, I think he's he's
- 23:26Speaker 3: overvalued by the market in the sense of they're not
- 23:30Speaker 3: willing to or he's overvalued himself in the market where
- 23:36Speaker 3: if a team has come to him and said, we'll
- 23:37Speaker 3: give you two hundred and forty million, he says, I
- 23:39Speaker 3: mean unless his number starts at three, I don't even
- 23:42Speaker 3: want to talk. Obviously, we don't know what's going on
- 23:44Speaker 3: in those conversations.
- 23:46Speaker 1: And hey, maybe he does take fifty million for this season,
- 23:48Speaker 1: crushes it with a team and then the right suitor
- 23:51Speaker 1: comes to mind. Sometimes it's not about the platform season,
- 23:54Speaker 1: but it's also about the market. Right there's a team
- 23:57Speaker 1: that really needs, you know, a star outfield, just seems
- 24:01Speaker 1: like some of those teams are going to play for him.
- 24:04Speaker 1: And it's a large, large ask if he is in
- 24:08Speaker 1: the three hundred plus range. There are just not many
- 24:10Speaker 1: teams that want to dance like that right now. In general,
- 24:14Speaker 1: in baseball, no teams are forced to do that. Okay,
- 24:16Speaker 1: let's get to the next rumor. Cody Bellinger conversations continuing
- 24:20Speaker 1: with the Yankees. John Hayman reports this morning that talks
- 24:26Speaker 1: have continued into this week. The Yankees are trying to
- 24:29Speaker 1: bridge the gap in years by enhancing their latest offer,
- 24:31Speaker 1: which is a five year offer. They're offering an opt out,
- 24:35Speaker 1: They're offering a nice signing bonus. They're offering no deferrals.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Parties have possible options, but effort being made to stay together.
- 24:43Speaker 1: I continue to think this is the marriage that stays strong.
- 24:47Speaker 2: Yeah, agreed, both sides need each other.
- 24:51Speaker 1: Yeah, and you can up things. I don't know, does
- 24:55Speaker 1: the opt out do anything for you? I guess if
- 24:58Speaker 1: it's after one year and he bangs again, and I
- 25:01Speaker 1: don't know.
- 25:01Speaker 2: How because he's done it at years now, I don't
- 25:06Speaker 2: know that he wants to do that.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Again, you know. But if it's if it's that same
- 25:10Speaker 1: Let's say, let's say he can't get the sixth year,
- 25:12Speaker 1: it just can't figure it out with another team whatever,
- 25:14Speaker 1: and it's five and then he says, cool, I want
- 25:16Speaker 1: an opt out in case I have another superstar season.
- 25:18Speaker 1: And then things change with the next CBA. He could
- 25:21Speaker 1: do that. The Yankees might be like, well, we're committing five.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Years plus, Like I don't want to give you.
- 25:26Speaker 1: I don't want to do that. Maybe maybe they say
- 25:28Speaker 1: after year three, right, but then his free agency is
- 25:32Speaker 1: not looked at the same way that exactly.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I just don't I don't know. This is Bellinger
- 25:37Speaker 2: is an interesting one because again this goes back to
- 25:39Speaker 2: what other teams are interested. All we've really heard is Yankees, Yankee, Yankee,
- 25:44Speaker 2: Yank Yanks.
- 25:46Speaker 1: At that level, I'm not sure. Clearly the Mets like
- 25:49Speaker 1: Kyle Tucker a lot more than Cody Bellinger.
- 25:51Speaker 2: I think that's you mentioned the Angels. But would they
- 25:54Speaker 2: want to do that Dodgers or they want to bring
- 25:56Speaker 2: him back he was already there and then't bring him back.
- 25:59Speaker 1: He's going to cost potentially five to one fifty, which
- 26:01Speaker 1: is the same that the Mets probably are offering Kyle
- 26:03Speaker 1: Tucker over three years right now with an opt out.
- 26:07Speaker 1: But Tucker is a better player, better track record, So
- 26:11Speaker 1: we'll see. This is interesting. This is heating up.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Why not the Mets? Why not the Mets? Jorge Polanka
- 26:17Speaker 3: is the answer at first base, Like they have a SUDA,
- 26:21Speaker 3: they have a need in center field?
- 26:25Speaker 1: Is it?
- 26:25Speaker 3: Is it the years? Is it five years? Is it
- 26:27Speaker 3: the look that woh whoa, whoa? You gave Cody Bellinger
- 26:32Speaker 3: six years to get him over there. Why couldn't you
- 26:35Speaker 3: have given Pete money? Like to me, I think the
- 26:38Speaker 3: market should be out there for Cody, I because the
- 26:43Speaker 3: whole time it was like the end of his LA career.
- 26:46Speaker 3: You look at his war the last three years. You
- 26:48Speaker 3: look at his ops plus it was one twelve forty
- 26:53Speaker 3: four both injuries shortened years, and then eighty one ops plus. Yes,
- 26:59Speaker 3: he had to rebuild his back. But how many times
- 27:00Speaker 3: does Cody Bellinger say, yeah, go on, how many times
- 27:03Speaker 3: do I have to rebuild my value?
- 27:08Speaker 1: I feel you? I mean, hey, remember the Cubs traded
- 27:11Speaker 1: him to the Yankees a year ago and they had
- 27:13Speaker 1: to eat some money. You know, things can change very
- 27:16Speaker 1: quickly up and down to the free agent.
- 27:17Speaker 2: By the way, speaking of all that, we're sprinting rumors,
- 27:19Speaker 2: we haven't heard any from ber Valdez rumors. Very few
- 27:23Speaker 2: Rangers Suarez rumors.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Orioles and Mets have been linked to those two for
- 27:26Speaker 1: a long time, but nothing like they're in a stalemate.
- 27:29Speaker 1: You know why, because they think that they need to
- 27:31Speaker 1: get closer to the Dylanc's contract and they're not going
- 27:35Speaker 1: They're not.
- 27:35Speaker 2: I'm telling you, those are some pretty big names that
- 27:38Speaker 2: just haven't even really I mean, we haven't talked about
- 27:40Speaker 2: a ton.
- 27:41Speaker 1: Those deals are not going to be as big. I
- 27:44Speaker 1: think with Suarez it's some injury history, and with Valdez
- 27:47Speaker 1: it's other things that we've talked about in the past.
- 27:49Speaker 1: Let's get to one more rumor before we finish up.
- 27:52Speaker 1: This is a juicy one. Jeff Passon reporting the Giants
- 27:55Speaker 1: are aggressively pursuing a second basement and had been engaged
- 27:58Speaker 1: in talks with the cub on Nico Horner and the
- 28:01Speaker 1: Cardinals on Brendan Donovan. An infield of Matt Chapman, Willia
- 28:04Speaker 1: Domas and either Donovan or Horner plus Rafael Devers would
- 28:08Speaker 1: be among Major League Baseball's best. Now we're talking Giants, Hello,
- 28:12Speaker 1: welcome to the off season. This is definitely something they
- 28:15Speaker 1: should be doing, and I think that they probably land
- 28:19Speaker 1: Brendan Donovan if they're serious. I don't think the Cubs
- 28:21Speaker 1: are going to trade Nico Horner, but Donovan would be
- 28:24Speaker 1: a great fit out there in San.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Francisco and guess where Nico Horner is from is from? Yeah,
- 28:32Speaker 2: he went to Stanford.
- 28:33Speaker 1: But it's not up to him. I mean, the Cubs
- 28:34Speaker 1: are going to ask for a boatload of prospects, and
- 28:36Speaker 1: if I'm the Cubs, I do not disrupt that just
- 28:40Speaker 1: flow right into the season.
- 28:42Speaker 2: I say they are, But if they do, I mean,
- 28:43Speaker 2: this would be a nice San Francis is gonna be
- 28:45Speaker 2: a nice landing spot for Nico Horner.
- 28:46Speaker 1: It would, But the Cardinals want to trade Brendan Donovan.
- 28:49Speaker 1: I don't think that the Cubs want to trade Nico Horner.
- 28:52Speaker 1: They're just doing their job to listen. So that's why
- 28:55Speaker 1: I wore this shirt today to do something. Splashit territory
- 29:01Speaker 1: shop dot com.
- 29:02Speaker 3: Is this a little No? He worked because they woke up.
- 29:06Speaker 3: He worked because they woke up, and there they have
- 29:08Speaker 3: a chance to do something. But both those guys would
- 29:11Speaker 3: be awesome types of players in San Francisco. Yes, Willie
- 29:15Speaker 3: Domas went out and hit his hit, his thirty dingers. Yes,
- 29:18Speaker 3: Raffie Devers is gonna hit thirty dingers next year in
- 29:21Speaker 3: San Francisco, which is a tough power park. We get that.
- 29:25Speaker 3: But two guys in Brandon Donovan and Nico Horner if
- 29:29Speaker 3: they could land one of those guys. To me, they
- 29:32Speaker 3: go and get value from a guy more than if
- 29:35Speaker 3: he were to go play at another you know, one
- 29:37Speaker 3: of those guys would go play at another home run
- 29:39Speaker 3: friendly park. Like those guys put the ball in play.
- 29:42Speaker 3: They know how to hit. It's the hit tool that
- 29:46Speaker 3: very got. Very few guys have right now and very
- 29:48Speaker 3: few guys know how to use. So to me, I
- 29:52Speaker 3: love that if Buster Posey's going after that type of player. Yes, awesome,
- 29:57Speaker 3: because you get like I could tell Marte not that
- 29:58Speaker 3: he would go from the Diamonbacks Giants, but then it's like, Okay,
- 30:02Speaker 3: does his power get squashed a little bit in San
- 30:06Speaker 3: Francisco for eighty one games. I tend to think yes,
- 30:10Speaker 3: But he's a big doubles guy too. But I would
- 30:12Speaker 3: love both of those guys playing at second base for
- 30:14Speaker 3: the Giants.
- 30:15Speaker 1: It appears the Giants are done on the starting pitching side,
- 30:18Speaker 1: so it's Logan Web, Robbie, Ray Tyler, Molly who they signed,
- 30:20Speaker 1: Adrian Houser who they signed, and Landon wrote and then
- 30:24Speaker 1: whatever lineup wise, they're missing a bat Junghu Lee Willia Domis.
- 30:31Speaker 1: I'm just going through the fangraphs one through nine. Devers, Chapman,
- 30:35Speaker 1: Ramos had a nice season. Bryce Eldridge, I guess they
- 30:38Speaker 1: have put at DH right now, a rookie DH. And
- 30:42Speaker 1: then Kasey Schmidt is put in at second base. That
- 30:45Speaker 1: could be your utility. Patrick Bailey, who hasn't shown the
- 30:48Speaker 1: bat but obviously is an amazing defender. And then they
- 30:51Speaker 1: got Louis Montos right now in right field. They're at
- 30:53Speaker 1: bat short. That would lengthen the lineup quite a bit.
- 30:57Speaker 1: Donovan at second and can float around the blow little bit.
- 31:01Speaker 1: So I'm into it. Go get it done. San Francisco.
- 31:04Speaker 1: They're asking for a lot, and you're gonna have to
- 31:06Speaker 1: give up a lot. All right, Let's lap a couple
- 31:25Speaker 1: of things. Number one, congratulations to Bucco Territory are pirate show,
- 31:30Speaker 1: which is what a month old? They have a thousand subs.
- 31:33Speaker 1: That's a big accomplishment. Once you get to a thousand,
- 31:35Speaker 1: you can start playing ball Splash. HiT's got a thousand
- 31:38Speaker 1: and two. They started around the same time. You want
- 31:41Speaker 1: to see this job opening and see if anyone's interested.
- 31:44Speaker 2: I actually want to take this show.
- 31:45Speaker 1: I do. How far away is it for Jupiter? Two hours,
- 31:49Speaker 1: two hours. Okay, so the yep, I have a minor
- 31:54Speaker 1: league manager.
- 31:56Speaker 2: It's for the Florida Complex League YEP.
- 31:59Speaker 1: And it pays between forty K and eighty K depending
- 32:04Speaker 1: on your experience full benefit.
- 32:07Speaker 2: I'd probably have to go for the eighty K.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll be your agent on that one. No fee,
- 32:12Speaker 1: twenty five hundred dollars living stipend, one hundred dollars cell
- 32:15Speaker 1: phone stipend in season only in season, and they take
- 32:17Speaker 1: the phone back a thousand dollars continuing education stipend. So
- 32:22Speaker 1: the whole job opening is posted on teamwork online if you're.
- 32:27Speaker 2: Interested, does really hard?
- 32:29Speaker 3: Does Aj Prazinski get that job if he applies for it?
- 32:33Speaker 3: No chance, no chance you get that job, sorry, Aj?
- 32:39Speaker 3: Like not qualified one way, not qualified, not qualified, And
- 32:45Speaker 3: some people would say overqualified. Some people would say underqualified.
- 32:49Speaker 3: I would just love to be in the room when
- 32:50Speaker 3: you have the interview. So can we do like a
- 32:53Speaker 3: hidden boss video, like a rolling into the Marlins Complex
- 32:59Speaker 3: on the minor league side, Like you're not even you
- 33:02Speaker 3: don't even know where the minor league side is. Like
- 33:04Speaker 3: you guys come to the big league side and interview
- 33:07Speaker 3: me over here.
- 33:09Speaker 1: I was interviewed by the Marlins years ago for a
- 33:11Speaker 1: broadcaster job, and Derek Jeter was on the call but
- 33:16Speaker 1: didn't want anyone to know he was on the call.
- 33:18Speaker 1: I know that for a fact. Someone who was with
- 33:20Speaker 1: him told me after the fact, like, you don't want
- 33:24Speaker 1: to give me a little love and say Hi, just
- 33:26Speaker 1: want to listen. So Krats can do that for you
- 33:29Speaker 1: if you do a zoom call and just be like, hey, guys,
- 33:31Speaker 1: just me here, and Kratz is like, what are they saying?
- 33:37Speaker 1: So it's a real thing. Jeter did it.
- 33:39Speaker 2: I mean, I'm just I just I'm just Florida Complex League.
- 33:44Speaker 2: I mean I played in the Gulf Coast League back
- 33:45Speaker 2: in the day. I played in the Florida Complex that
- 33:47Speaker 2: I have experience that they have a really hard time
- 33:52Speaker 2: of filling this job a lot of times because Zelle sucks.
- 33:58Speaker 2: Oh because it's noon games in the middle of summer
- 34:00Speaker 2: in Florida.
- 34:02Speaker 1: You want to get into the coaching world in baseball, it's.
- 34:04Speaker 2: A good place to stars, but that year is going
- 34:07Speaker 2: to suck because you're up at six am and you're
- 34:09Speaker 2: having to babysit. Eighteen seventeen eighteen year old kids.
- 34:14Speaker 1: No state income tax the cell phone is with you
- 34:19Speaker 1: for like five months.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Not even because the Florida Complex is only like June
- 34:23Speaker 2: and July.
- 34:25Speaker 1: No, it's longer than I'm sure you run.
- 34:26Speaker 3: I'm sure you run extended too. I'm sure you run extended.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Oh yeah, they're not giving you know.
- 34:32Speaker 2: I'm not applying because I never had to go to
- 34:33Speaker 2: extended I'm one of my prouder moments of my career
- 34:36Speaker 2: is I was a high school draft pick and I
- 34:38Speaker 2: did not have to go to extended strid That is,
- 34:42Speaker 2: that's a scout's looking at me like, I don't get it.
- 34:45Speaker 2: Trust every guy that I think I was drafted with
- 34:47Speaker 2: out of high school had to go to extended Speatrie
- 34:51Speaker 2: and I, luckily was fortunateough to skip that.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Life was tough for a young aj Perzentski. He's not hired.
- 34:58Speaker 1: I was about to hire him now actually revoking his
- 35:02Speaker 1: manager role, so he's staying on FT. We did all
- 35:04Speaker 1: of that.
- 35:05Speaker 3: That job. Whoever gets that job, he's gonna sweat like
- 35:08Speaker 3: Max Kepler the drum test. I mean, just sweat time
- 35:12Speaker 3: all day.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Show your hat on the way. I won't say anything,
- 35:16Speaker 1: but I.
- 35:17Speaker 3: Mean I thought this was a team that had the
- 35:19Speaker 3: biggest news today. But maybe I was wrong. Maybe I
