- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean. Here it is Wednesday, it's the
- 0:144th of September and I am chuffed as cheese that you have
- 0:20tapped on play and invited me into your day.
- 0:23Here we are in this crazy reality where podcasts exist,
- 0:28and no matter what you're doing, whether you are running, whether
- 0:30you are lying in bed, whether you are in the car or sitting
- 0:33around the dining table, you have been able to invite me in.
- 0:37And we get to read God's Word together.
- 0:39And you don't have to use your hands or look at a book, but you
- 0:43might be doing that or you might be doing something else at the
- 0:46same time. But here we are still able to
- 0:48invite God's Word into our daily rhythm so that you and I can
- 0:53have these words bouncing around in our heads and our hearts
- 0:57throughout the day so that God can use His Word, transform us.
- 1:02Because boy, I don't know about you, friends, but I can
- 1:04certainly use some transformation every single day.
- 1:09Just ask my family. But that's why we do this.
- 1:12That is why we do this. And so with that in mind, I am
- 1:16just delighted that you continue to come here every day.
- 1:20And if not every day, then whenever you do come here,
- 1:23welcome. So good to have your company as
- 1:26we can do this together. So let us do that.
- 1:28Enough about me. Let us hear what the God of the
- 1:32universe has to say to you and to me today as we read together
- 1:37Second Corinthians chapter 3, are we beginning to praise
- 1:52ourselves again? Are we like others who need to
- 1:56bring you letters of recommendation or who ask you to
- 1:59write such letters on their behalf?
- 2:01Surely not. The only letter of
- 2:04recommendation we need is you yourselves.
- 2:09Your lives are a letter written in our hearts.
- 2:12Everyone can read it and recognise our good work among
- 2:16you. Clearly.
- 2:18You are a letter from Christ showing the result of our
- 2:21ministry among you. This letter is written not with
- 2:25pen and ink, but with the Spirit of the living God.
- 2:30It is carved not on tablets of stone, but on human hearts.
- 2:37We are confident of all this because of our great trust in
- 2:41God through Christ. It is not that we think we are
- 2:45qualified to do anything on our own.
- 2:48Our qualification comes from God.
- 2:51He has enabled us to be ministers of His new covenant.
- 2:55This is a covenant not of written laws, but of the Spirit.
- 3:00The old written covenant ends in death, but under the new
- 3:04covenant the Spirit gives life. The old way with laws etched in
- 3:11stone lead to death. Though it began with such glory
- 3:15that the people of Israel could not bear to look at Moses face,
- 3:19for his face shone with the glory of God, even though the
- 3:23brightness was already fading away, shouldn't we expect far
- 3:27greater glory under the new way now that the Holy Spirit is
- 3:32giving life? If the old way, which brings
- 3:36condemnation, was glorious, how how much more glorious is the
- 3:40new way which makes us right with God?
- 3:44In fact, that first glory was not glorious at all compared
- 3:49with the overwhelming glory of the new way.
- 3:53So if the old way, which has been replaced, was glorious, how
- 3:58much more glorious is the new which remains forever?
- 4:04Since this new way gives us such confidence, we can be very bold.
- 4:10We are not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the
- 4:13people of Israel would not see the glory even though it was
- 4:17destined to fade away. But the people's minds were
- 4:21hardened, and to this day whenever the old covenant is
- 4:24being read, the same veil covers their minds, so they cannot
- 4:28understand the truth. And this veil can be removed
- 4:32only by believing in Christ. Yes, even today when they read
- 4:37Moses writings, their hearts are covered with that veil and they
- 4:42do not understand. But whenever someone turns to
- 4:46the Lord, the veil is taken away, for the Lord is the
- 4:51Spirit, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is, there is
- 4:56freedom. So all of us who have had that
- 5:00veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord.
- 5:05And the Lord, who is the Spirit, makes us more and more like Him
- 5:10as we are changed into His glorious image.
- 5:23Well Jesus, this is all just a little bit mind blowing.
- 5:27That you would give us your spirit.
- 5:30That you would make a new covenant with us, a promise that
- 5:34doesn't just last and then fade away for a small amount of time,
- 5:37but lasts forever. And that in US you would plant
- 5:41your spirit that would bring us to everlasting life.
- 5:45With you, I'll let our lives be a love letter from you to
- 5:50everyone around us. Let us permeate your glory so
- 5:55that we positively glow with joy and with love and everything
- 6:02that you bring this broken, desperately in need world.
- 6:09Ah, we love you and we are just so humbled that you would choose
- 6:13firstly to give us this incredible gift, but secondly to
- 6:18invite us to be a part of the mission of sharing this in our
- 6:22broken world that so desperately needs your presence.
- 6:27So send us, we are ready. Transform us and may your will
- 6:35be done here as it is in your home now.
- 6:39We ask all of this in your name, Jesus, Amen.
