- 0:02Speaker 1: This is a Bramble Jam podcast. Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark,
- 0:24Speaker 1: a Hallmark review podcast. I'm Megan and I'm a long
- 0:27Speaker 1: time Hallmark movie fan. I'm Wendy. I'm a former Hallmark hater.
- 0:31Speaker 1: On today's episode, we are discussing Mystery one on one
- 0:34Speaker 1: and Education and Murder, the fifth movie in the Mystery
- 0:37Speaker 1: one to One franchise. We'd love for you to follow
- 0:40Speaker 1: us on Instagram to keep up with all things Girls
- 0:42Speaker 1: Gone Hallwark, especially because we're doing lots of things that
- 0:45Speaker 1: are not like presently on the Hallmark schedule. So hang
- 0:49Speaker 1: out with us over there to find out every time
- 0:51Speaker 1: I drop a new episode. Should also just be following
- 0:54Speaker 1: us in your podcast apps. You just get like a
- 0:56Speaker 1: boop every time there's something new.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Hey, we have a Facebook group if you want to
- 1:00Speaker 2: commiserate with others about the lack of new original content
- 1:05Speaker 2: for the month of July.
- 1:07Speaker 1: We are with you.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Hey, join us there, Girls Gone Hallmark in Facebook groups.
- 1:12Speaker 1: That's right. I wanted to share a recent message we
- 1:15Speaker 1: received from the Instagram user Bendi's Helm, who is a
- 1:19Speaker 1: well known pala has Dan fair enough, she says, excellent review.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Ladies actually did have the chance to meet her in
- 1:27Speaker 1: person in Kansas City last year. We did excellent review ladies.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I think Dead Talk is the first movie that I
- 1:32Speaker 1: noticed how Travis really values Amy's opinions, as he'll look
- 1:36Speaker 1: to her to make sure she's done investigating a scene
- 1:39Speaker 1: before they move on in particularly when they're checking out
- 1:42Speaker 1: the dead guy's office. Also, did you see Travis fix
- 1:45Speaker 1: the fallen flag in that scene? I did not nice?
- 1:48Speaker 1: Did you see them me? Neither? Anyway, Welcome to the
- 1:51Speaker 1: joy and pain of being a one oh on er.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I will forever believe that loving this series is worth
- 1:55Speaker 1: enduring the cliffhanger. It's just that good.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I'm still feeling a lot of anxiety about the series ending.
- 2:09Speaker 1: But aren't you glad we've seen it? It's so good. Yeah.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I wonder why we waited so long because there's
- 2:16Speaker 2: a lot of Hamemark content. Yeah, it just so happens
- 2:19Speaker 2: in twenty twenty five that Hallmark doesn't really have a
- 2:23Speaker 2: lot of new content.
- 2:24Speaker 1: So yeah, we always do our own thing in the summer. Yeah,
- 2:27Speaker 1: So I'm I'm.
- 2:28Speaker 2: Glad that it's worked out the way it's worked out.
- 2:32Speaker 1: I just it's very.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Funny because and I think we talked about this before,
- 2:37Speaker 2: but last summer when we did Sein Sealed Delivered. Yes,
- 2:42Speaker 2: there were times where that movie or that series was
- 2:46Speaker 2: in question if it was coming back or not.
- 2:50Speaker 1: And while we were.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Like along that ride, like we knew that it was
- 2:54Speaker 2: still going forward, we always had hope that there.
- 2:57Speaker 1: Were new movies coming. And now Mystery one on one,
- 3:01Speaker 1: we know that's pretty much done. I mean, I think
- 3:04Speaker 1: One on one ers hold out help that someday they'll
- 3:06Speaker 1: revive it and they'll come back. But I am here
- 3:09Speaker 1: to say that I don't think that's going to happen.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Not because I don't think it should, and not because
- 3:13Speaker 1: I don't think it's worthy. I just I don't think
- 3:15Speaker 1: that's the path.
- 3:17Speaker 2: You know.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I wouldn't hate it if another streamer picked it up.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Oh right, Yeah, imagine this series on my Netflix or
- 3:30Speaker 3: Paramount Plus.
- 3:32Speaker 2: It could be a little more edgy, a little more.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Se I don't hate it.
- 3:38Speaker 2: I would be down for it. I actually have found
- 3:41Speaker 2: myself really enjoying this series, and while doing research for
- 3:47Speaker 2: this one, like looking at the actors and their previous
- 3:51Speaker 2: work history, I'm like, Hmmm, do I need to check
- 3:54Speaker 2: out Garage Hell Mysteries or Matchmaker mysteries, or do I
- 4:00Speaker 2: please let us know Girls Gone Hallmark at gmail dot
- 4:04Speaker 2: com if any of those other mystery series are up
- 4:09Speaker 2: to this level of entertainment.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Yeah, we won't be reviewing them in twenty twenty five now, guys. No, no, no, no,
- 4:16Speaker 1: this would be for my own personal viewing enjoyments. Yeah.
- 4:20Speaker 1: In the meantime, let's hear a synopsis for an Education
- 4:23Speaker 1: and Murder.
- 4:24Speaker 2: A young writer's research prompts the police to revisit a
- 4:28Speaker 2: famous murder case that convicted Amy's colleague at Elmsted. So
- 4:32Speaker 2: Travis and Amy get a second chance at clearing the
- 4:35Speaker 2: professor's name.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Mystery one on one and Education and Murder was directed
- 4:40Speaker 1: by Michael Robinson. Michael currently has ninety one directing credits.
- 4:44Speaker 1: His most recent project for Homework was February's and Unexpected Valentine.
- 4:48Speaker 1: But he's also done Hallmark hits like a Picture of
- 4:49Speaker 1: Her An Unexpected Christmas and it was always you. Do
- 4:54Speaker 1: you see a Tyler Hines theme here? Lots of Tyler movies,
- 4:58Speaker 1: m Michael of Tyler, this tiler of Michael, the just
- 5:02Speaker 1: a good working relationship.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I wonder how that unfolds. This installment of Mystery
- 5:09Speaker 2: one on one was written by John Christian Plumber, Robin
- 5:13Speaker 2: Bernheim and Lee Goldberg.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Jill Wagner, Christopher Palaha, Robin Thomas, Preston Vanderslice. All return
- 5:20Speaker 1: Missing from this installment is Sarah Dugdale and Amanda Wong,
- 5:24Speaker 1: except in one throwaway reference, I'm.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Shaking my head. I have lots to say about it.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Dejon Loyola plays our bad guy, Blake Newman. Dejon has
- 5:35Speaker 2: thirty two acting credits and went on to appear in
- 5:38Speaker 2: the Hallmark movie Christmas Class Reunion. He's also appeared in
- 5:43Speaker 2: other projects like Nancy Drew, Once Upon a Time in
- 5:45Speaker 2: Wonderland and The Good Doctor.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Brianno O'Brien plays the aspiring true crime novelist Ela Quincy
- 5:52Speaker 1: with fifty nine acting credits. She's appeared in other Hallmark
- 5:55Speaker 1: franchises like Murder, She Baked, Garage Sale Mysteries, Aurora t Garden,
- 6:00Speaker 1: Matchmaker Mysteries. See what I mean, There's so many mystery franchises. Yeah, yeah,
- 6:07Speaker 1: I'm curious, genuinely curious. It was recently recommended in our
- 6:13Speaker 1: Facebook group that we cover the series Darrow and Darrow, Right,
- 6:17Speaker 1: But was that even? Is that Hallmark adjacent or is
- 6:20Speaker 1: that Hallmark? I think it's Hallmark, But please email us
- 6:23Speaker 1: girls on Homemark at gmail dot com. We could do
- 6:25Speaker 1: the research ourselves. Someone did email us. They were like,
- 6:28Speaker 1: here's a Google search about a question you asked on
- 6:30Speaker 1: the recent podcast. And I was like, oh, yeah, I know,
- 6:33Speaker 1: I could google.
- 6:34Speaker 3: What Like.
- 6:35Speaker 1: It's called engagement. We're not asking you guys to do
- 6:40Speaker 1: the work.
- 6:41Speaker 2: We just want you to engage with us.
- 6:45Speaker 1: But I appreciated because a lot of times we think
- 6:47Speaker 1: about things and then by the time we're done recording,
- 6:49Speaker 1: I'm like, I don't remember.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Just moved on to the eight other projects we have
- 6:52Speaker 2: exactly on David James Lewis plays Dwight Merrill with an
- 6:55Speaker 2: impressive two hundred and seventy two acting credits. He was
- 6:58Speaker 2: our favorite in last year's Jingle Bell Run. He also
- 7:03Speaker 2: appeared in One Calls The Heart Crime, Time free Fall,
- 7:08Speaker 2: as well as several morning show mysteries movies. Peter Bryant
- 7:13Speaker 2: plays retired detective Howard Clawson. Peter has one hundred and
- 7:16Speaker 2: fifty seven acting credits and has appeared in movies like
- 7:19Speaker 2: Last Years, of Reason for the Season, Heart of the Matter,
- 7:22Speaker 2: and Always Amore. Steve Basic plays wrongly accused Mac McKinnon.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Steve is a familiar face, having appeared in at least
- 7:31Speaker 2: ten garage sale mystery movies, as well as the movie
- 7:34Speaker 2: Love Classified.
- 7:35Speaker 1: The reboot of Aurora t.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Garden, and the movie Fourth Down.
- 7:39Speaker 1: And Love Mystery one on one. And Education and Murder
- 7:42Speaker 1: premiered on March twenty ninth, twenty twenty, and I imagine
- 7:45Speaker 1: it was a very welcome respite for the viewers at
- 7:49Speaker 1: that time, two weeks into some rough stuff. Yeah, yeah,
- 7:55Speaker 1: we're gonna take a quick break and come right back
- 7:57Speaker 1: with our first impressions. Hey, Wendy, what was your first
- 8:08Speaker 1: impression of an Education and Murder?
- 8:11Speaker 2: Two brains are better than one because Megan and I
- 8:14Speaker 2: watched this together and we solved it.
- 8:17Speaker 1: My first impression is we solve the murder. We saw
- 8:21Speaker 1: the murder.
- 8:22Speaker 2: And it's funny too, because as we're watching this, we
- 8:26Speaker 2: don't watch a lot of movies together. It just so
- 8:28Speaker 2: happens we are together this weekend and we're like, let's
- 8:31Speaker 2: watch this movie together and record.
- 8:34Speaker 1: And I think we're like joking.
- 8:36Speaker 2: At one point, I was like, I don't even know
- 8:38Speaker 2: who the bad guy could be, and I go, for all,
- 8:40Speaker 2: I know, it's that bookstore guy. And then the clues
- 8:44Speaker 2: started falling into place. Yep, well let's start with what
- 8:50Speaker 2: we liked.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Go ahead, I mean, let's start with the obvious. That kiss.
- 8:55Speaker 1: That kiss, it's a bad damn time looks such great
- 8:58Speaker 1: forward motion with Amy and Trafvis send this episode. Yes,
- 9:01Speaker 1: they're not being coy about their feelings, even though they
- 9:05Speaker 1: keep get getting interrupted by Graham. It becomes a running
- 9:09Speaker 1: joke together, just serves to bring them closer, gives them
- 9:12Speaker 1: something to laugh about. And you know, this movie ending
- 9:17Speaker 1: kiss is a little bit bittersweet because, as discussed earlier
- 9:20Speaker 1: in this episode, we do have only two more movies
- 9:23Speaker 1: to go with these two. My guess is next movie
- 9:26Speaker 1: we're going to see them get a good place, happy, flirty,
- 9:30Speaker 1: maybe exploring what comes next, and then Blamo rude cliffhanger
- 9:34Speaker 1: and movie seven. Do you have any theories what this
- 9:39Speaker 1: cliffhanger is? Someone told us, Oh, I don't know what
- 9:42Speaker 1: it is, so I yeah, if they If I did
- 9:46Speaker 1: read the cliffhanger.
- 9:47Speaker 2: I probably don't remember. I just have a lot of
- 9:53Speaker 2: anxious feelings about it.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I agree.
- 9:56Speaker 2: I was so happy we finally got a kiss. I'm
- 9:58Speaker 2: so happy that Amy for it. I'm glad she made
- 10:01Speaker 2: the move. I felt the vibe between them. It's obviously unmistakable.
- 10:11Speaker 2: What's the word unmistakenable? Unmistakable, unmiss there's no in in it. No, no,
- 10:19Speaker 2: you're right, unmistakable. Anyway, their vibe like they're hanging out
- 10:25Speaker 2: off the clock, like he's just like at their house
- 10:27Speaker 2: washing TV. I'm like, yeah, and Graham, this is what's funny,
- 10:31Speaker 2: is like, obviously you're gonna have to bleep this.
- 10:34Speaker 1: Graham's acker here. But Graham is.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Funny to me because I think he's in support of
- 10:40Speaker 2: these two being together. But he's always and I don't
- 10:43Speaker 2: know if he's not realizing.
- 10:45Speaker 1: That he is. Yeah, is he clueless because in the
- 10:48Speaker 1: last movie we saw him intentionally trying to get them
- 10:50Speaker 1: together and trying to get Travis to interrupt this previous relationship. Right,
- 10:57Speaker 1: So I found it shocking when you know, in my
- 11:00Speaker 1: when he shows up and he finds them at dinner,
- 11:01Speaker 1: you think he'd be like, oh, well, you have a
- 11:03Speaker 1: good time, Like he would be like, yeah, don't let
- 11:05Speaker 1: me interrupt, let me join you. Instead like really killing
- 11:09Speaker 1: the vibell.
- 11:12Speaker 2: One thing I really liked about this particular movie is
- 11:16Speaker 2: the Cold Case. You know, we've talked about it in
- 11:19Speaker 2: the past about a murder always happening at the college.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Isn't like a great storytelling through line, you know, when
- 11:28Speaker 2: the murder happens always same location, saying people involved.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Et cetera, et cetera.
- 11:34Speaker 2: So I like that they were dealing with a cold case,
- 11:37Speaker 2: but I also liked that they paired it with a
- 11:40Speaker 2: fresh murderer, like a double mystery.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Like we got like, I mean, there's always a double murder.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Well, I didn't realize that until you said it when
- 11:47Speaker 2: we were watching the movie. I never realized that there
- 11:50Speaker 2: was always like a fresh new murder in these Yeah,
- 11:53Speaker 2: never noticed.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a double murder every time. So when we
- 11:56Speaker 1: were watching, I was like, who's gonna get murdered? Yecause
- 11:58Speaker 1: one of the potential suspects away gets murdered. I've never
- 12:03Speaker 1: really noticed that before. Yeah, I think it does a
- 12:05Speaker 1: lot towards taking the burden of the suspension of disbelief
- 12:12Speaker 1: off of the movies by dealing with this cold case,
- 12:15Speaker 1: this past murder that happened in the past. There's actual
- 12:20Speaker 1: technically three murders, I mean in the past and then
- 12:23Speaker 1: once present, but it's almost like a like a serial killer.
- 12:26Speaker 1: I mean, I know, speaking of I do find this
- 12:30Speaker 1: movie to have the darkest tone of any of the
- 12:32Speaker 1: mystery one on one movies we've seen. Really, I don't
- 12:35Speaker 1: agree with that interesting that one what that monkey, The
- 12:38Speaker 1: monkey was creepy, That was the creepiest. This one was
- 12:42Speaker 1: the darkest. The murder up top is pretty graphic for
- 12:45Speaker 1: a Hallmark movie. I agree. When she asphyxiates basically on
- 12:51Speaker 1: Strych nine, that's shocking to watch. And when he breaks
- 12:54Speaker 1: into her house and he's right next to her bed,
- 12:56Speaker 1: I thought it was creepy and dark. And I also
- 12:59Speaker 1: think the lurking retired detective added to the dark tone.
- 13:04Speaker 1: It was a little bit sinister. And then finally we
- 13:07Speaker 1: get the cooperation of the cold misty weather throughout this episode,
- 13:12Speaker 1: which it's really nice when they're not having to fight
- 13:15Speaker 1: with sunny days and trying to make it look like,
- 13:18Speaker 1: you know, when the sun's blazing outside, it's pretty hard
- 13:21Speaker 1: to be like everything spooky, but they had actual miss
- 13:25Speaker 1: and you can see their breath.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm wondering if this came out in mid March,
- 13:29Speaker 2: do you think they filmed it in January, probably likely.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Yeah, Vancouver, pretty cold, pretty dang kiled.
- 13:36Speaker 2: I have two more little things that I liked. I
- 13:41Speaker 2: liked that we got Travis's backstory about being served divorce
- 13:44Speaker 2: papers after being on like a long like stakeout shift.
- 13:48Speaker 2: Now is this new information that he was divorced?
- 13:53Speaker 1: Yeah? I got the memory of a goldfish these days.
- 13:57Speaker 1: I don't know. I can't remember. She must have, no,
- 14:00Speaker 1: I don't remember. We don't remember.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I remember speaking about in the lot. Might've been the
- 14:07Speaker 2: last movie when she was talking about like that Dungeons
- 14:09Speaker 2: and Dragons game. I know that's not what it was called.
- 14:11Speaker 2: But like my point was, Oh, we're starting to learn
- 14:14Speaker 2: more about Amy, And then it made me realize in
- 14:16Speaker 2: this movie, I'm like, we don't know anything about Travis,
- 14:19Speaker 2: Like do we know anything? Like why is he here
- 14:22Speaker 2: in the city?
- 14:23Speaker 1: I don't. We don't know a lot about I will
- 14:25Speaker 1: say that I do think their untold backstories play into
- 14:31Speaker 1: the cliffhanger for real.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Oh gone, that makes it worse. That makes it worse. Now,
- 14:39Speaker 2: I just want to hurry up and get it over
- 14:40Speaker 2: with and just watch them.
- 14:42Speaker 1: I do think that slowly revealing bits of their backstory
- 14:45Speaker 1: gives them a lot of freedom and storytelling as they
- 14:48Speaker 1: are forward because they can always rewrite history as needed,
- 14:52Speaker 1: and so you know, they can create this traumatic divorce
- 14:57Speaker 1: story and they can create they bring these characters in
- 15:00Speaker 1: from their past that my influence future storytelling. So I'm
- 15:03Speaker 1: certain that's intentional. That's really smart. I'm not a writer,
- 15:08Speaker 1: like I don't know. I don't know the formulas. It's
- 15:12Speaker 1: not the formula. I don't know that. What is it?
- 15:14Speaker 1: The strategy? Strategy, you know. I noticed it though, And
- 15:16Speaker 1: hannahs wentson too. She's on her first date with Chad
- 15:18Speaker 1: and he's talking. They're like talking about the details of
- 15:21Speaker 1: their lives, which I guess, I guess it makes sense that,
- 15:24Speaker 1: you know, their interactions are very surface day to day.
- 15:29Speaker 1: They've known each other for a while, but they're not
- 15:30Speaker 1: sitting down just the two of them to talk about
- 15:33Speaker 1: each other. And so I think the same can be
- 15:37Speaker 1: said for Amy and Travis. A lot of their interactions
- 15:40Speaker 1: are based on crime solving and not about getting to
- 15:43Speaker 1: know each Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 15:45Speaker 2: My last thing I liked. My last thing that I
- 15:50Speaker 2: liked is even though we have a change of directors
- 15:54Speaker 2: from movie to movie, because since Sie Seals delivered. We
- 15:57Speaker 2: had the same director for a mature in the movies,
- 16:02Speaker 2: but with this series we have had different directors. But
- 16:07Speaker 2: I'll say there's a clear cohesiveness in the series, like
- 16:11Speaker 2: they've done that really well.
- 16:12Speaker 1: Like I don't.
- 16:13Speaker 2: There's never one movie that feels like it doesn't belong
- 16:17Speaker 2: just because the way it was directed, so anyway, I
- 16:20Speaker 2: am it. They've kept it nicely tight in their little
- 16:27Speaker 2: A Grace three one on one universe.
- 16:28Speaker 1: I agree. I have two little likes. I've always loved
- 16:32Speaker 1: the scenery of these movies, but I did find this
- 16:33Speaker 1: one to be especially beautiful. They shot in some really
- 16:36Speaker 1: beautiful neighborhoods that we've been shooting at the college this
- 16:40Speaker 1: entire time, but they had some different angles and some
- 16:42Speaker 1: different shots that I thought were really nice. And Secondly,
- 16:46Speaker 1: you will regularly hear me complain about the deep cast
- 16:49Speaker 1: of characters in Mystery one on One, specifically in terms
- 16:53Speaker 1: of the suspects. However, I did really enjoy the mystery
- 16:55Speaker 1: solving element of this movie. I think it might have
- 16:58Speaker 1: been because we were watching it together and bouncing ideas
- 17:00Speaker 1: off of each other, but we did figure out who
- 17:03Speaker 1: the murder was early on, even though we didn't necessarily
- 17:06Speaker 1: understand his motive. We did seeing those clues that they
- 17:10Speaker 1: were dropping a lot. Yeah, so it was kind of
- 17:11Speaker 1: fun to watch it.
- 17:12Speaker 2: When the reveal is happening, you're like, oh, this is
- 17:16Speaker 2: this is why did it?
- 17:18Speaker 1: Yeah, it was kind of fun. I agree. Let's talk wishes.
- 17:23Speaker 2: My first one is Travis Yo, you are a trained
- 17:26Speaker 2: police officer, like, I wanted to see him land a
- 17:29Speaker 2: punch or two onto the bad guy. Obviously, Chris is
- 17:34Speaker 2: a really tall guy in person in like real life.
- 17:39Speaker 2: He had size on the purp here like he could
- 17:43Speaker 2: have easily taken him down.
- 17:45Speaker 1: So I knew you were going to talk about this
- 17:46Speaker 1: fight scene as I bitched about it while I was
- 17:48Speaker 1: watching it. Yeah, and I agree with you. But what
- 17:50Speaker 1: I was thinking while I was watching it is I
- 17:52Speaker 1: wanted one of those cartoon style fights where Travis puts
- 17:54Speaker 1: his palm on Blake's forehead and like holds him at
- 17:56Speaker 1: arm length and Blake is just swinging wildly at him
- 17:59Speaker 1: and at landa punch because Travis's wingspan. I just really
- 18:04Speaker 1: wanted that moment because they do try and pretend like
- 18:09Speaker 1: it's a real fight and then he, you know, attacks
- 18:13Speaker 1: Amy and Travis Poulesa got on him. But you're right,
- 18:17Speaker 1: Travis could have put that guy down easily, instantly, easily. Yeah, yeah,
- 18:22Speaker 1: I have another wish. Go ahead, more Steve Basic, please.
- 18:26Speaker 1: So what was really funny is the second he comes
- 18:28Speaker 1: on screen when he goes Steve Basic. Now I recognize
- 18:31Speaker 1: his face. Could not have told you in one million
- 18:32Speaker 1: years his name or what else he has been him.
- 18:34Speaker 1: It's not you, Steve, It's it's me. But I looked
- 18:38Speaker 1: up his IMDb. No, we've seen him in Staff. As
- 18:41Speaker 1: you mentioned, he works a lot. He has like one
- 18:43Speaker 1: hundred and eighty credits, and he's Love classified fourth down
- 18:48Speaker 1: in Love. That's the right one. M But I really
- 18:53Speaker 1: like him, and I almost feel like we could build
- 18:55Speaker 1: an entirely new mystery franchise around him. And we have
- 19:00Speaker 1: seen him on Hallmark in a minute, I would like
- 19:02Speaker 1: more of him.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Yeah, Megan was thoroughly surprised how I pulled his name
- 19:08Speaker 2: out of the ether.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Well, it's been a couple of years since we've seen
- 19:11Speaker 1: him in the movie.
- 19:12Speaker 2: I know. I was just telling her. I'm like, sometimes
- 19:15Speaker 2: that just happens. I mean, I can't say the word
- 19:17Speaker 2: sure unmistakenly, I can tell you this acer was maya papaya. Okay,
- 19:27Speaker 2: I have I have a couple just two three little wishes.
- 19:31Speaker 2: The retired detective guy was way too intense for me.
- 19:36Speaker 2: But now that you said that, like it did lean
- 19:39Speaker 2: into the sinister part of the overall theme of the movie.
- 19:44Speaker 2: But I just was like, why is this guy so
- 19:48Speaker 2: upset that Amy's poking around a case that he has solved.
- 19:53Speaker 1: Yeah, so protective of his legacy that he cares more
- 19:56Speaker 1: about being right than he does about the admission of Jess. Well, like,
- 20:00Speaker 1: where are his ethics?
- 20:02Speaker 2: Why is he like trying to run her down with
- 20:04Speaker 2: his car. I mean, he wasn't trying to run her down,
- 20:06Speaker 2: but he was, you know, stalking her.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Yeah, that was it was intense. I'm like, I don't
- 20:13Speaker 1: understand why you're moving that way, dude. Hmm.
- 20:16Speaker 2: That just seemed super offen weird to me. Like, honestly,
- 20:20Speaker 2: I thought he was a bad guy from the jump,
- 20:22Speaker 2: but you're like, it's too obvious it's him. So also,
- 20:27Speaker 2: no clear, No Holly, I missed my background besties.
- 20:31Speaker 1: I know she does mention Holly at one point in
- 20:34Speaker 1: the movie. I don't know if you heard it. I
- 20:35Speaker 1: don't think so. She shows up at Graham's house and
- 20:38Speaker 1: she was like, Holly's out sick or Polly's is closed
- 20:43Speaker 1: early for something, so I had to come here for coffee.
- 20:46Speaker 1: But Holly is not in any future mystery. When one
- 20:49Speaker 1: movies I.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Looked, I it makes Amy's world feel a little lonely
- 20:54Speaker 2: when she doesn't have Holly, who seemingly seems like her
- 20:57Speaker 2: best friend.
- 20:59Speaker 1: And then Claire.
- 21:00Speaker 2: I know she and Amy don't have a relationship, but
- 21:04Speaker 2: Bud has a relationship with Claire.
- 21:06Speaker 1: It's not even a mention of her. And she's part
- 21:10Speaker 1: of the workforce, the police workforce. I just thought, yes,
- 21:15Speaker 1: I wonder how much COVID played into this, because you know,
- 21:17Speaker 1: they film in Canada, and I don't know. I don't
- 21:20Speaker 1: remember the timeline. It's all such a blur, but I
- 21:23Speaker 1: do know that when they went back to work on
- 21:24Speaker 1: these projects, Canada required them to quarantine for two weeks
- 21:27Speaker 1: in a hotel before they could go to work. And
- 21:30Speaker 1: so that's why if you remember Deep Cut Christmas in Evergreen, Oh,
- 21:39Speaker 1: Colin Lawrence, that third movie only appears via zoom, like
- 21:43Speaker 1: he's only on FaceTime calls. Because I'm sure he was
- 21:46Speaker 1: on it. I think he's on Virgin River, as is
- 21:48Speaker 1: Sarah Dugdale, and I'm sure that they couldn't cross projects
- 21:53Speaker 1: for that reason. And I would assume that that's part
- 21:58Speaker 1: of the reason why some of these other characters don't reappear,
- 22:01Speaker 1: these recurring characters. I mean, Sarah Dugdale does go on
- 22:04Speaker 1: to work on Virgin River. I don't know the timeline
- 22:06Speaker 1: of that, but my guess is Holly, you know, didn't
- 22:08Speaker 1: have the timeline to Quarantine going forward, or maybe she
- 22:11Speaker 1: was just doing other things. But I miss our friend too.
- 22:18Speaker 2: My last little wish was, while I was happy for
- 22:21Speaker 2: the kiss, I hated that the movie ended in that moment.
- 22:25Speaker 2: I wish for a little aftermath of it, like they
- 22:30Speaker 2: just and credits.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Yeah, Like I want to like a snuggle.
- 22:35Speaker 2: A week and a nod like let's go back to
- 22:37Speaker 2: my place. I go, uh huh, spicy inn window. I
- 22:41Speaker 2: would be into it.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Interesting, No, sure, love it.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Megan wanted to drink a little cocktail and watch a
- 22:51Speaker 2: crisp pal movie last night.
- 22:52Speaker 1: So my exact words, I said, I want to get
- 22:54Speaker 1: a little tipsy and launch a crisp Paalah movie. And
- 22:58Speaker 1: we did. Let's talk digit see that, Okay, I have
- 23:07Speaker 1: a few, Okay, I have a few.
- 23:09Speaker 2: One was it was a scene you talked about earlier
- 23:12Speaker 2: when Graham comes in and kind of interrupts their dinner
- 23:17Speaker 2: when they're sitting at the bar and Travis is touched.
- 23:23Speaker 2: They're talking intimately, Travis and Amy and he's the scene
- 23:28Speaker 2: is so quick, but his hand is on her hand,
- 23:30Speaker 2: and then when Graham comes up, he pulls it away
- 23:32Speaker 2: like they're two teenagers that just got caught alone.
- 23:35Speaker 1: Huh that was so funny. Yeah, I A.
- 23:40Speaker 2: I can't understand though, why the motivation of Travis for
- 23:46Speaker 2: keeping it like.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Professional around Graham?
- 23:52Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 23:52Speaker 1: What is the motivation? Is it? Is it that they're
- 23:54Speaker 1: not ready to talk about it. Is it that they
- 23:56Speaker 1: haven't defined it for themselves so they don't really want
- 23:58Speaker 1: to have to discuss it with Graham?
- 24:00Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah?
- 24:01Speaker 1: Is it like, oh, it's her dad, so I have
- 24:03Speaker 1: to like perhaps keep my hands to myself. I have
- 24:09Speaker 1: two more, but no, actually just one more? Do you
- 24:11Speaker 1: want me to do it? I mean I only have one.
- 24:13Speaker 1: It's probably the same thing. Okay, go ahead. Well, I
- 24:16Speaker 1: don't want to take it. Take it if it is, well,
- 24:20Speaker 1: I can't even take credit for it. You noticed early
- 24:22Speaker 1: on that Jill Wagner is very obviously pregnant in this movie,
- 24:25Speaker 1: and as soon as you noticed, I couldn't unsee it.
- 24:29Speaker 1: But the advantage of that is she had to wear
- 24:31Speaker 1: a lot of great oversized ponchos and wraps in this
- 24:34Speaker 1: very clearly gloomy, cold, misty, cloudy weather. I thought she
- 24:37Speaker 1: looked great.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Yeah, the weather worked for them, because if it was summer.
- 24:40Speaker 2: I don't know what she would have done.
- 24:42Speaker 1: Well, you know, they she had like at one point
- 24:44Speaker 1: she's hiding behind her podium. At one point she's carrying
- 24:46Speaker 1: a big bag. A lot more of that. There's several
- 24:49Speaker 1: seated scenes. Yeah, so I think it would have been
- 24:52Speaker 1: a lot more of that. There was some IMDb chatter
- 24:55Speaker 1: about it. Why would you cast a pregnant woman in
- 24:57Speaker 1: a single woman role? Yo, we're five movies in what
- 25:01Speaker 1: are we gonna do? Like replace her? In this movie?
- 25:06Speaker 2: The role of Ivy is being played by.
- 25:09Speaker 1: Nikki de Loach. Yeah, like, it doesn't it wouldn't work. No,
- 25:14Speaker 1: it's stupid.
- 25:15Speaker 2: I don't understand IMDb reviewers. Sometimes, let's call a spade
- 25:22Speaker 2: a s bathe they hate. Most of them are just misogynists. Okay,
- 25:27Speaker 2: maybe you're probably right, They're not.
- 25:30Speaker 1: In here complaining about any of the dudes ever, never, never, ever.
- 25:36Speaker 1: My my other did you see that?
- 25:38Speaker 2: Was Travis comes in at one point He's wearing head
- 25:41Speaker 2: to toe black and I even yelled at the TV.
- 25:44Speaker 2: I was like, okay, Matrix, like he's straight uploat like
- 25:48Speaker 2: floats behind us.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Keanu Reeves. Look, I'm gonna do it.
- 25:52Speaker 2: I'm into the sexy detective, Like I get it.
- 25:56Speaker 1: But it was so funny to me. It was so
- 25:58Speaker 1: funny to me. Well, hey, did you rate Mystery one
- 26:01Speaker 1: on one an Education and Murder?
- 26:04Speaker 2: I thought this one was really good. I gave it
- 26:08Speaker 2: four stars. I think the last one was better, but
- 26:11Speaker 2: this is still a high, high top tier.
- 26:14Speaker 1: I gave it four point two five stars. You know,
- 26:17Speaker 1: as I was watching, I was like, I got a
- 26:19Speaker 1: really dig deep to find things to say about this movie.
- 26:21Speaker 1: I just found it not in a good way, not
- 26:22Speaker 1: in a bad way. I just found it really enjoyable
- 26:24Speaker 1: to watch, Like I could just sit here and watch.
- 26:26Speaker 1: There's not like glaring things that I need to talk about.
- 26:29Speaker 1: It is solid. It was solid. Yeah, thanks for listening
