- 1:42Speaker 4: conversations with our guy Bill Bender, who came up with
- 1:45Speaker 4: a quarterback list that we talked about the other day.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Also my guy Bobby Carpenter, the general Big ten. Bob's
- 1:51Speaker 4: gonna join us. But before we get to any of that,
- 1:54Speaker 4: like we always do, let's go around the room with
- 1:56Speaker 4: a little vibe check, Moose, how we doing?
- 1:59Speaker 6: I mean the news at ten pm last night?
- 2:03Speaker 7: Feeling good, doing good here on this on this on
- 2:06Speaker 7: this Friday morning.
- 2:08Speaker 4: What was the news at ten pm?
- 2:09Speaker 7: Jay Johnson's on the board, man landing Hood gonzagarighty freshman
- 2:14Speaker 7: of the year coming to baton rouge. Look at a
- 2:17Speaker 7: restore order.
- 2:18Speaker 6: On the mound. Let's get hype, dude.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Nobody's more hype than this man right here, Jake, We're
- 2:24Speaker 1: sitting there this morning. Here moves in his office right here.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Oh good pitch, Oh what a throw. And I'm like, Moose,
- 2:30Speaker 1: remember if it lasts longer than four hours, contact your physician.
- 2:33Speaker 2: Buddy. Mooso's fired up about it.
- 2:35Speaker 4: You should be, Yeah, you should be.
- 2:37Speaker 7: And they have the full outings of his on YouTube.
- 2:40Speaker 7: I mean, I'm not gonna not just sit there and
- 2:41Speaker 7: watch that. I mean, that's come on, that's awesome.
- 2:45Speaker 4: Oh man, that is good and well, and we'll certainly
- 2:48Speaker 4: come back to that. Uh, I didn't see it last night.
- 2:51Speaker 4: More this morning situation for me. Yeah, I mean he
- 2:55Speaker 4: got the juices flowing though. I get it. Yeah, no,
- 2:57Speaker 4: I get it. I mean I didn't even touch a
- 2:59Speaker 4: stair coming up here today, just right up there. Didn't
- 3:03Speaker 4: even touch a stare today. How are we doing well, Jake?
- 3:07Speaker 1: It's National donut Day, so pretty dang good. We're excited.
- 3:11Speaker 4: I forgot about that. You were excited about that?
- 3:13Speaker 2: Oh we got we got.
- 3:13Speaker 1: We got a dozen sitting right out there in the
- 3:15Speaker 1: hallway for everybody.
- 3:16Speaker 2: It's awesome.
- 3:17Speaker 4: Well, you know, nobody's going to be in this building
- 3:19Speaker 4: for like four more hours. That's not us.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Well, look they gonna have to have a cold donut
- 3:25Speaker 1: then it is what it is, still a moves.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Mary Lee's wasn't open this morning.
- 3:28Speaker 1: At like five thirty, drove by not a car in
- 3:32Speaker 1: the parking lot, not a no light on. But I
- 3:36Speaker 1: mean I lived by like three donut shops. It was like,
- 3:38Speaker 1: no big deal, will hit the next one.
- 3:40Speaker 4: I wonder why mary Lee's wouldn't have been opened.
- 3:42Speaker 6: I was wondering.
- 3:43Speaker 1: I told him, I told Musso yesterday there was a
- 3:46Speaker 1: shot that wasn't going to happen.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:48Speaker 6: I figured they opened at like five.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Their website says five thirty, but it was like five
- 3:52Speaker 1: thirty five, and it was nothing on in that building.
- 3:56Speaker 6: It's Friday, late start, understandable, get it.
- 3:59Speaker 4: It's very true. It's very true. It a late start
- 4:03Speaker 4: on the roads today. I don't I mean, I guess
- 4:05Speaker 4: college kids aren't in school. I guess, you know, first
- 4:09Speaker 4: maybe full week, summer time. I don't know. There was
- 4:11Speaker 4: nobody on the road this morning. It looked like a
- 4:15Speaker 4: ghost town in it was.
- 4:17Speaker 2: It was awesome.
- 4:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I got here in ten minutes.
- 4:21Speaker 4: I always know how the traffic was in Baton Rouge
- 4:23Speaker 4: based off Taylor's mood when he gets here.
- 4:26Speaker 1: True, dude, I'm a I am a I am a
- 4:30Speaker 1: crash out driver. I mean, if there's even a slight
- 4:33Speaker 1: inconvenience for me on the road, Like some poor souls
- 4:37Speaker 1: got an accident, they're on the phone with their insurance agent. No,
- 4:40Speaker 1: it's me that's inconvenience. I mean, it's it's it's bad
- 4:43Speaker 1: Victoria like riding with me.
- 4:46Speaker 4: I can't imagine she would.
- 4:47Speaker 2: That's not the only reason, but like that that adds
- 4:49Speaker 2: to it.
- 4:50Speaker 4: Yeah, I cannot imagine she would. Oh man, playoffs tonight?
- 4:56Speaker 4: Mos is gonna give us a full breakdown the NBA finals.
- 5:00Speaker 6: Uh, go Knicks?
- 5:02Speaker 4: Question mark in this room? Yes, certainly, since Thelandra and
- 5:06Speaker 4: Flynn aren't here, it is Go Nicks. It's gonna be
- 5:11Speaker 4: a tough one. It's gonna be a tough one for
- 5:12Speaker 4: my old knickerbockers. Obviously, they are up one game to Nada,
- 5:16Speaker 4: but it is gonna be very difficult for them to
- 5:18Speaker 4: go up to nothing. But I say that, but man,
- 5:21Speaker 4: they haven't lost in twelve games.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Like I picked the Spurs game more easy because the
- 5:25Speaker 1: Knicks sudden nothing lost in so long. But it may
- 5:27Speaker 1: not matter. The Spurs are fighting for their lives. They
- 5:30Speaker 1: have to win this game, like I'm picking them for
- 5:33Speaker 1: that reason. You go down too, drop both games at home,
- 5:36Speaker 1: You're done.
- 5:37Speaker 7: Not only is it twelve straight for the Knicks, it's
- 5:39Speaker 7: double digit win after double digit win after double digit win.
- 5:42Speaker 4: Yeah, it's been just weapons that they've been putting on
- 5:45Speaker 4: teams now. Vegas says San Antonio is a six and
- 5:50Speaker 4: a half point favorite. It opened up at five and
- 5:52Speaker 4: a half. The first game, I think was four and
- 5:55Speaker 4: a half is where it's settled. So this one, Vegas thinks, like, Tay,
- 5:59Speaker 4: it's I mean, they have to have it. You're at home.
- 6:02Speaker 4: If you don't get this one, oh, bagged case scenario
- 6:06Speaker 4: for you, worst case scenario for you. So I'm looking
- 6:09Speaker 4: forward to it. I look as a Knicks fan, I
- 6:13Speaker 4: want it to be a good series. I thought the
- 6:15Speaker 4: game the other night it was a really good game.
- 6:17Speaker 4: I had a lot of runs, a lot of back
- 6:18Speaker 4: and forth. Now the Knicks pulled away at the end,
- 6:21Speaker 4: and credit to them because it looked like so many
- 6:23Speaker 4: times initially the Spurs are gonna pull away, or they're
- 6:25Speaker 4: at fourteen, and then the Knicks come back. And then
- 6:29Speaker 4: at one point it felt like the Knicks were going
- 6:31Speaker 4: to pull away when they were out what eight or seven,
- 6:34Speaker 4: and then here comes to Spurs. They went on a
- 6:36Speaker 4: nine to zero run. It's like, okay, well here they come,
- 6:38Speaker 4: and then the Knicks pull away from them. In the end.
- 6:40Speaker 4: It was a great back and forth, a little nervous,
- 6:44Speaker 4: A little nervous just to be expected, a little nervous.
- 6:48Speaker 4: First time since ninety nine they've been in the finals.
- 6:51Speaker 4: They say, act like you've been there before, but in
- 6:52Speaker 4: my lifetime, they've been there once.
- 6:54Speaker 1: I think you're I think it's gonna go your way.
- 6:58Speaker 1: I thought that before Game one. I obviously think that now.
- 7:01Speaker 1: I think the Knicks are going to take this series
- 7:02Speaker 1: in six games.
- 7:06Speaker 4: I hope. So, I hope you are certainly right. I
- 7:08Speaker 4: hope that is the case.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Moose.
- 7:11Speaker 4: How much are you watching college baseball right now? Oh?
- 7:16Speaker 6: I mean, I'm I'm still on it. You're one hundred percent.
- 7:20Speaker 7: I mean I I had Squeeze play on all weekend,
- 7:22Speaker 7: like all weekend last weekend.
- 7:24Speaker 5: Uh.
- 7:25Speaker 7: I the only time I wasn't kind of like in
- 7:27Speaker 7: front of the TV Sunday Sunday afternoon, I went and
- 7:31Speaker 7: chilled by the pool for like two and a half hours,
- 7:34Speaker 7: but I was back inside ready to go for like
- 7:38Speaker 7: the regional final winners bracket games on Sunday night, Like
- 7:41Speaker 7: I I watched it all. I mean, it's it's rare that,
- 7:45Speaker 7: thank goodness, it's rare that we get this opportunity where
- 7:47Speaker 7: we can actually just sit back and watch the tournament.
- 7:50Speaker 7: It's not super fun like it did feel like something
- 7:53Speaker 7: was missing, but the theater and the games were great.
- 7:56Speaker 7: I mean upset after upset, I mean extra innings, walk
- 7:59Speaker 7: offs like it was. It was an awesome first round
- 8:02Speaker 7: of the ENCIUL Baseball tournament last weekend. So yeah, I mean, look,
- 8:05Speaker 7: they'll get underway here eleven am super Regionals. I'll I'll
- 8:08Speaker 7: be tuned in throughout the weekend at that as well.
- 8:12Speaker 7: I'm watching I like baseball. So I mean I got
- 8:15Speaker 7: on last night and turned on astros Pirates. Okay, yeah,
- 8:21Speaker 7: that is that is a deep I mean I wasn't
- 8:23Speaker 7: locked into it, but I had it on in the background.
- 8:25Speaker 7: I'd peek at it every now and then, and you know,
- 8:27Speaker 7: I'm eating dinner or sitting on the couch.
- 8:32Speaker 4: Who are you rooting for? I mean, because it's hard
- 8:36Speaker 4: for me to watch a game where I'm not at
- 8:38Speaker 4: least being like I want that team to win. But
- 8:41Speaker 4: when el Sho's not in it, where do you go? Well,
- 8:45Speaker 4: it depends you go for feel good story. I mean
- 8:47Speaker 4: you don't go to the other SEC teams.
- 8:49Speaker 7: A feel good story or wherever my money is placed.
- 8:53Speaker 6: So I mean feel good for me. I mean, how
- 8:57Speaker 6: can it not be Little Rock right now?
- 8:58Speaker 7: With what they came out Swimmers stories awesome, They came
- 9:02Speaker 7: down here last year, gave elshow everything they wanted. They're
- 9:05Speaker 7: swept through the Hattiesburg Regional Super Regional. Like love to
- 9:08Speaker 7: see Little Rock make run to them hall like gonna
- 9:10Speaker 7: win anything when they're there. Maybe not, probably not, but
- 9:13Speaker 7: love to see them do that. And then I'll tell
- 9:14Speaker 7: you Jake, West Virginia, man, I I like that group.
- 9:19Speaker 7: They feel like they've been on the cusp for the
- 9:21Speaker 7: last few years. Steve Sabans has done a really nice
- 9:23Speaker 7: job up there. It's a great atmosphere for college baseball
- 9:26Speaker 7: in Morgantown. They've really embraced that sport up there, which
- 9:30Speaker 7: is not common for that area of the country. So
- 9:34Speaker 7: I love that. And it's their third straight Super Regional
- 9:38Speaker 7: they finally get to host one. It's their best draw
- 9:40Speaker 7: of the three because I mean, twenty four year at
- 9:42Speaker 7: at North Carolina, twenty five you were at LSU. Now
- 9:45Speaker 7: you get cal Poly at home, a team that's fly
- 9:47Speaker 7: across the country, so that like Little Rock in West Virginia,
- 9:52Speaker 7: I know they're probably not gonna win at all, but
- 9:56Speaker 7: that's really the rooting interest right now, just because their fun,
- 9:59Speaker 7: feel good st.
- 10:00Speaker 4: If you're if you're hitting reset on everything that happened
- 10:04Speaker 4: in the regionals. Now you're in super regionals and you're
- 10:07Speaker 4: looking at the matchups, you're looking at the path, who
- 10:09Speaker 4: would you say, top two, top three, maybe favorites.
- 10:15Speaker 2: M I like.
- 10:19Speaker 6: I like Georgia against Mississippi State.
- 10:22Speaker 7: I know that might sound odd to say like top
- 10:25Speaker 7: three favorite there because that's supposed to be such a
- 10:27Speaker 7: tightly contested series, right Georgias beat them for to Georgia's
- 10:30Speaker 7: four to zero against him now, and all of those
- 10:32Speaker 7: have been away from Athens. They swept them in Starkville,
- 10:34Speaker 7: they beat him in the SEC tournament. Right now, you
- 10:36Speaker 7: get them at home a ballpark that plays so well
- 10:38Speaker 7: to Georgia straints. I think that could go three games,
- 10:42Speaker 7: but I do think Georgia ultimately gets that done. I
- 10:45Speaker 7: like Texas a lot as well. Against Oregon. I think
- 10:48Speaker 7: Oregon's got a really good ball club. The lineup is
- 10:51Speaker 7: very impressive for Oregon. But I've also just seen this
- 10:56Speaker 7: story before of Oregon going up against an SEC program
- 10:58Speaker 7: late in the postseason and nor goes the SEC programs
- 11:01Speaker 7: way so I like Texas there an awful lot and
- 11:05Speaker 7: if I'm looking for a third one, man, I think
- 11:08Speaker 7: the rest of them are actually going to be pretty
- 11:10Speaker 7: highly contested.
- 11:12Speaker 6: But Chapel Hill has my attention.
- 11:14Speaker 7: Because North Carolina's got to face Mason Edwards from USC
- 11:16Speaker 7: in game number one, and if USC can win that game,
- 11:21Speaker 7: and then you have Gaval going in the next one, like,
- 11:23Speaker 7: they put themselves in a great position, and they've been
- 11:25Speaker 7: awesome behind Mason Edwards all year. I mean that guy,
- 11:27Speaker 7: that guy's probably gonna be a Day.
- 11:28Speaker 6: One draft pick come July. He's been great.
- 11:31Speaker 7: So North Carolina last SEC ACC team remaining out of nine.
- 11:36Speaker 7: They got one into the region, the Big ten, the
- 11:39Speaker 7: Big ten, the Big twelve, got more teams in the
- 11:41Speaker 7: superreason around in the ACC.
- 11:43Speaker 6: So those really the three that I'm honed in on.
- 11:46Speaker 7: And as I said, I mean, I obviously have eyes
- 11:48Speaker 7: on West Virginia and Little Rock because of the story
- 11:50Speaker 7: there with those two.
- 11:50Speaker 4: Yeah, ACC tough, tough, tough scenes for them, and certainly
- 11:54Speaker 4: when they're trying to make the jump to where the
- 11:58Speaker 4: SEC is and try to be like hey, it's yeah
- 12:00Speaker 4: and us and then stuff like this happens. It feels
- 12:03Speaker 4: like every year.
- 12:03Speaker 6: I mean, that was a brutal showing.
- 12:06Speaker 7: Like when when Oklahoma, who is a good team, Okay,
- 12:10Speaker 7: but that's a middle of the pack SEC team. They're good,
- 12:13Speaker 7: but they're middle of the pack in the SEC. They
- 12:17Speaker 7: went and beat supposedly the ACC's best team twice when
- 12:21Speaker 7: they had to beat them twice, like facing elimination twyce
- 12:24Speaker 7: that's in their own ballpark. That's just a really tough
- 12:28Speaker 7: pill to swallow. For the Atlantic Coast Conference.
- 12:30Speaker 1: The people thought Georgia Tech was like the best team
- 12:33Speaker 1: in the country. Yeah, we had a field in for
- 12:36Speaker 1: hunt last week in Joe Healy on as mis natty
- 12:39Speaker 1: pig like heading into regional Georgia Tech. I mean, there
- 12:43Speaker 1: was a lot of people out there that liked them.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Who's the Big ten team that doesn't have a baseball program?
- 12:49Speaker 7: Wisconsin, Wisconsin does not, you know what you know, I
- 12:53Speaker 7: remember that because Milwa Sea No. Because Milwaukee when they
- 12:57Speaker 7: came down here, we all learned that they are the
- 12:59Speaker 7: only Division one baseball program in the state of Wisconsin,
- 13:02Speaker 7: that is is University Wisconsinent.
- 13:04Speaker 2: And the conference still got more teams than the ACC.
- 13:07Speaker 4: Wisconsin doesn't have one in the Big twelfth. Colorado doesn't
- 13:11Speaker 4: have Colorado does not have believe that's the two that
- 13:13Speaker 4: can always stand out.
- 13:15Speaker 6: Mm hmm.
- 13:18Speaker 4: And Vanderbilt doesn't have softball.
- 13:20Speaker 6: They don't, they don't.
- 13:22Speaker 4: Kind of weird.
- 13:23Speaker 2: H it's weird.
- 13:23Speaker 6: That is weird.
- 13:24Speaker 4: It's college but the SEC and softball where most years
- 13:30Speaker 4: every team makes the postseason. Yeah, maybe maybe you should.
- 13:35Speaker 6: Maybe that's why they don't want one.
- 13:36Speaker 7: They don't want to have to like start up a
- 13:37Speaker 7: program in this gauntlet that is the SEC right now,
- 13:41Speaker 7: we might pass on that.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Hey, look, guys, we just got good at football. Yeah, okay,
- 13:46Speaker 4: let's yeah.
- 13:48Speaker 7: Look, I mean it took Corbs almost a decade to
- 13:50Speaker 7: win the Natty and baseball and he has some really
- 13:52Speaker 7: good teams.
- 13:53Speaker 6: We just got good at football.
- 13:55Speaker 7: It's maybe, I mean, it's maybe pumped the brakes on
- 13:58Speaker 7: on the softball.
- 13:59Speaker 4: Youven't heard, because I was talking with their ad one
- 14:01Speaker 4: time down in Destin and meetings, and one of the
- 14:05Speaker 4: things she said is we don't have a place to
- 14:07Speaker 4: put a facility.
- 14:09Speaker 6: That makes a lot of sense.
- 14:11Speaker 4: Actually, we don't have anywhere to put a softball team,
- 14:14Speaker 4: which is crazy.
- 14:16Speaker 6: That makes sense. I mean, you think of that campus.
- 14:18Speaker 7: I mean all all and all their athletic complexes are locked.
- 14:23Speaker 6: Yeah they do. They're like right there.
- 14:25Speaker 2: You don't have you don't have anywhere to expand because
- 14:28Speaker 2: of the city.
- 14:28Speaker 6: No Nashville, and that's on Worldway.
- 14:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 14:31Speaker 1: I don't know if a lot of people realize that,
- 14:32Speaker 1: like that is on the main strip. If you've never
- 14:34Speaker 1: been anywhere to.
- 14:35Speaker 6: Go, Bandy Jared Curtis stand up.
- 14:41Speaker 1: He said, Jake said, be why you somebody's basketball arena
- 14:47Speaker 1: and football stadium technically connect, Like you can actually walk
- 14:50Speaker 1: through a door.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Who is that? It's a big school.
- 14:53Speaker 4: I mean Vanderbilts does you can Like you walk into
- 14:58Speaker 4: the end zone and you walk into the basketball facility.
- 15:04Speaker 4: At least I know the practice facility. I don't know
- 15:05Speaker 4: if you can get to the game for set, but
- 15:07Speaker 4: I know for sure where the basketball practice is. It's
- 15:10Speaker 4: like on the other side of the end zone. But
- 15:11Speaker 4: it all connects. They don't have any room to go
- 15:15Speaker 4: anywhere in Vanderbilt. You'll see teams have foul balls onto
- 15:20Speaker 4: the football field.
- 15:21Speaker 2: It's not by you. I'm trying to find those talk
- 15:25Speaker 2: do it?
- 15:25Speaker 1: Like he walked out of the basketball arena into one
- 15:28Speaker 1: of the football corridors.
- 15:30Speaker 4: I'll ba he's got a pretty good setup. LeVar Edwards Stadium.
- 15:35Speaker 6: Lavell Edwards the backdrop man.
- 15:38Speaker 4: Yes, god, so good, incredible. All right, we'll take our
- 15:42Speaker 4: first break of the show. As you heard as soon
- 15:47Speaker 4: as we went the moves, he's pretty excited about Landon Hoods,
- 15:50Speaker 4: so we'll get a full break down there. We'll talk
- 15:52Speaker 4: a little LSU football, little LSU defense in our number one,
- 15:56Speaker 4: as we said. Bill Bender of the Sporting News joins
- 15:59Speaker 4: us later on. Bobby Carpenter a serious ExM big show today,
- 16:02Speaker 4: Stay locked in OTV, off the bench, all right, go
- 16:09Speaker 4: see our friends over at trash Rangers. Trash rangers dot
- 16:12Speaker 4: com is the website residential commercial trash pickup services and
- 16:18Speaker 4: also roll offf dumpsters. Remember they have three different sizes
- 16:21Speaker 4: to choose from, Like I went with the fifteen yards,
- 16:24Speaker 4: but Flynn needed the thirty yard one. They've got one
- 16:27Speaker 4: even bigger than that. Right, So, no matter how big
- 16:30Speaker 4: your project is, no matter how small your project is,
- 16:33Speaker 4: they've got to roll off dumpster for you. It's incredibly easy.
- 16:35Speaker 4: They calm, they drop it off, tell them when you're done,
- 16:37Speaker 4: they come, they pick it up. I mean, it is
- 16:39Speaker 4: hassle free for you. All you do is put the
- 16:41Speaker 4: trash in the dumpster. We always talking about residential commercial
- 16:45Speaker 4: trash pickup service, weekly text reminders, never forget to take
- 16:48Speaker 4: out the trash again. And also if you fall on
- 16:51Speaker 4: a holiday, you're not gonna skip a week. They actually
- 16:53Speaker 4: will pick up on Saturday. Sanitation department. Something new there
- 16:58Speaker 4: for trash rangers. If you have a job site or
- 17:00Speaker 4: if you're hosting an event and you need a portable restroom,

- 17:26Speaker 6: When you.
- 17:29Speaker 3: Tigers turn talkers, this is off the bench.
- 17:38Speaker 4: All right, welcome back in otv.
- 17:42Speaker 3: C.
- 17:45Speaker 4: I said, I didn't touch a stair walking up here,
- 17:52Speaker 4: Musa hit the stairs with a different body part. All right, Muso,
- 17:57Speaker 4: all right, baseball transfer for you said ten o'clock last night,
- 18:03Speaker 4: some of us found out at six thirty am this morning,
- 18:06Speaker 4: all found out. That's true Landon Hood and you taught
- 18:09Speaker 4: us about him yesterday, somebody that you talked about whenever
- 18:13Speaker 4: we and we didn't really talk a whole lot of players.
- 18:16Speaker 4: I mean we talked I think maybe two maybe three
- 18:18Speaker 4: specific players, and he was one of them. So for
- 18:21Speaker 4: LSU baseball fans, because right now you don't have anything
- 18:25Speaker 4: to cheer for. LSU baseball is not in the postseason.
- 18:27Speaker 4: It's a very odd place for all of us to
- 18:30Speaker 4: be here on this station. Right we're typically getting super
- 18:35Speaker 4: regional ready, we are breaking it down from every single
- 18:38Speaker 4: angle we're having every day we're having Ben McDonald and
- 18:40Speaker 4: Todd Walker and all of our guys on to talk about, Well,
- 18:43Speaker 4: we don't have that this year. What we have to
- 18:45Speaker 4: talk about is the baseball transfer portal, and so far,
- 18:48Speaker 4: so good by getting Land and Hood.
- 18:51Speaker 6: Yeah, so LUs who adds Land and Hood?
- 18:53Speaker 7: Obviously, you know, pitching is one of the top, if
- 18:55Speaker 7: not the top needs for LSU in the transfer portal
- 18:59Speaker 7: here in twenty twenty six offseason, after the year they
- 19:02Speaker 7: put fourth on the mound in the regular season. Hood
- 19:05Speaker 7: comes from Gonzaga, has two years of eligibility left. That's
- 19:08Speaker 7: really the first thing that I love I look back at.
- 19:12Speaker 7: You know, some of the better transfers to Jay Johnson
- 19:15Speaker 7: has been able to bring in. They've been multi year
- 19:17Speaker 7: guys like a Tommy White, like Riley Cooper, like Zach Cowen,
- 19:21Speaker 7: like Chris Stanfield. They've been guys who have been able
- 19:24Speaker 7: to be here, and you can retain them and even
- 19:26Speaker 7: develop them in your program. So I love that first
- 19:29Speaker 7: and foremost with Landon Hood throws it from the right
- 19:32Speaker 7: side six three, two hundred pounds. High school player of
- 19:35Speaker 7: the Year in Arizona his senior season, had a sub
- 19:38Speaker 7: one er in high school. Carried that over to Gonzaga.
- 19:42Speaker 7: Was by far from a number standpoint, the Zag's best
- 19:45Speaker 7: pitcher in twenty twenty six, Freshman of the Year in
- 19:48Speaker 7: the WCC sixteen appearances overall, four starts. We can get
- 19:53Speaker 7: into all of that, but mainly a two pitch guy.
- 19:55Speaker 7: Right now, it's a really good fastball. Get up to
- 19:58Speaker 7: ninety six, ninety seven, really gonna kind of live of
- 20:00Speaker 7: mid nineties. The best pitch, his best offering is a
- 20:04Speaker 7: change up, just your kind of your normal right handed
- 20:08Speaker 7: change up, straight change with little tail upper seventies. Though,
- 20:11Speaker 7: so when you think about the difference there from his
- 20:14Speaker 7: fastball to the change up, that's really significant. Normally you
- 20:17Speaker 7: see about a ten mile prior difference. He's greater than that,
- 20:20Speaker 7: and it's generating about fifty three percent whiffs this past
- 20:23Speaker 7: season as well, a lot of strikes. Was better as
- 20:26Speaker 7: a reliever as a freshman, did make four starts, struggled
- 20:31Speaker 7: to those. We can get into that a little bit,
- 20:33Speaker 7: but the thing that really stands out is he faced
- 20:36Speaker 7: three Power four teams this year, Oklahoma Super Regional team
- 20:40Speaker 7: by the way, Oregon Super Regional team, and Washington was
- 20:44Speaker 7: the other. He threw five and a third shutout innings,
- 20:48Speaker 7: two walks, eleven punchouts against powerful competition. That shows you
- 20:51Speaker 7: that the stuff can absolutely translate, can absolutely play in
- 20:55Speaker 7: in league.
- 20:56Speaker 6: In the SEC.
- 20:57Speaker 7: And this is a guy who should come in and
- 20:59Speaker 7: contribute on the weekend and definitely compete for a starting rotation.
- 21:02Speaker 4: And that's what my next question was going to be.
- 21:04Speaker 4: Where is he going to live for LSU? And nothing's
- 21:08Speaker 4: ever going to be set in stone on June and
- 21:10Speaker 4: the fifth as you get ready for the next baseball season,
- 21:13Speaker 4: But what would you envision him doing? Would it be
- 21:15Speaker 4: to like, as soon as you said change up, I'm like, okay, Well,
- 21:19Speaker 4: that Cowen kind of keeps in mind if somebody you're
- 21:20Speaker 4: trying to replace the same pitch arsenal as he had,
- 21:23Speaker 4: would it be a role like that? Do you think
- 21:25Speaker 4: he would be a weekend rotation guy? Because that Cowen
- 21:28Speaker 4: he was Hey, we need you now what we need
- 21:31Speaker 4: from you, we don't really know at the point. We
- 21:33Speaker 4: do need you though, And that's who he was for
- 21:35Speaker 4: the last couple of years.
- 21:36Speaker 7: He definitely profiles as a starting pitcher, and he'll get
- 21:38Speaker 7: every opportunity to earn that spot in the starting rotation.
- 21:41Speaker 6: I mean, they're not they're not.
- 21:42Speaker 7: Bringing Landing Hood in and Landon Hood's not coming to
- 21:45Speaker 7: LSU to be a bullpen guy.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Right.
- 21:48Speaker 7: I will say the starts he struggled in, he made
- 21:52Speaker 7: four of them, eighteen innings in era of seven. In
- 21:55Speaker 7: those starts, that's really what drove his say, drove his
- 21:58Speaker 7: numbers up yet an era sub but drove his numbers up.
- 22:02Speaker 6: Were the starts.
- 22:03Speaker 7: Walks were elevated there, strikeouts remained. But what's encouraging to me,
- 22:10Speaker 7: at least about the start, if I'm looking through it,
- 22:12Speaker 7: is his first five outings or out of the pin,
- 22:15Speaker 7: he was so good, you move him into rotation. Right,
- 22:17Speaker 7: That's that's normal, That's how this progression would go. This
- 22:20Speaker 7: guy's dominating. Let's put him on the weekend and give
- 22:22Speaker 7: ourselves the best chance to win series. He struggled in
- 22:25Speaker 7: his first three starts. They were back to back to back.
- 22:27Speaker 7: He goes back to the bullpen and then gets a
- 22:29Speaker 7: start later in the year against San Francisco, and it
- 22:33Speaker 7: was his best start of the season, five and a third.
- 22:36Speaker 7: Gave up two runs, like one walk, like a handful
- 22:39Speaker 7: of strikeouts, so it looked like, okay, he maybe got
- 22:42Speaker 7: the jitters out early in the starting role, went back
- 22:44Speaker 7: to the bullpens, settled down and was good. The other
- 22:46Speaker 7: reason you look at this and go okay, profiles as
- 22:48Speaker 7: a starter. His relief wasn't an inning here and ending there.
- 22:52Speaker 7: His longest relief outing on the year was six and
- 22:55Speaker 7: two thirds innings. It was his last outing of the season,
- 22:59Speaker 7: if I if I have that correct, Yeah, I mean
- 23:01Speaker 7: he went over one hundred pitches twice in relief, ninety
- 23:06Speaker 7: nine another time and then ninety eight another time or
- 23:10Speaker 7: for that. So he's been stretched out. He's gonna get
- 23:13Speaker 7: that opportunity. We'll see. Not everybody can make the jump,
- 23:17Speaker 7: but some can, and we've seen guys make the jump
- 23:19Speaker 7: from a bullpen. Also, I think you look at it,
- 23:22Speaker 7: best case scenario, starting a rotation weekend guy right when
- 23:25Speaker 7: he gets to campus. Worst case scenario, contributes out of
- 23:28Speaker 7: the bullpen, moves into the rotation with one of his
- 23:30Speaker 7: extra years of eligibility that he does have since he's
- 23:32Speaker 7: not eligible till twenty eight.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Would you move casein potentially if it comes out, Because
- 23:37Speaker 1: we've talked about that a lot on this show.
- 23:40Speaker 6: Let mean, what do you do with him?
- 23:41Speaker 1: Because you were talking about not everybody can make the jump.
- 23:43Speaker 1: It's like, are you still out on him if he
- 23:45Speaker 1: can make the jump, like he's been awesome the times
- 23:47Speaker 1: he has, Like, what would you do with him?
- 23:51Speaker 7: That's a hard thing to answer on June fifth, I
- 23:54Speaker 7: think right now on June fifth, and let me stress
- 23:57Speaker 7: that again on June the fifth, considering they've brought in
- 24:01Speaker 7: one guy, Case and Evans still has a rotation spot
- 24:03Speaker 7: for me. Cason Evans before the arm soreness at Mississippi
- 24:07Speaker 7: State was your best starting pitcher when you add everything
- 24:10Speaker 7: in totality.
- 24:11Speaker 6: He got you deepest into the game.
- 24:13Speaker 7: He pitched you into the sixth inning seventy percent of
- 24:15Speaker 7: the time before the arms soreness.
- 24:18Speaker 6: Were you always winning those games?
- 24:19Speaker 7: No?
- 24:19Speaker 6: His struggle was early.
- 24:22Speaker 7: He'd get off to a slow start, walks things of
- 24:24Speaker 7: that nature, and then really settle in and gets you
- 24:26Speaker 7: deep in the game. But I mean you've got quality
- 24:28Speaker 7: starts from Case and Evans. The way I've put it kinda,
- 24:32Speaker 7: I think Cason Evans can absolutely be a starting pitcher
- 24:35Speaker 7: in the SEC. I don't know if he's the Friday
- 24:38Speaker 7: night guy in the SEC. I think he's better suited
- 24:41Speaker 7: in a starting role Saturday Sunday in the league.
- 24:44Speaker 6: But you can you've seen it in the bullpen from him.
- 24:47Speaker 7: How awesome he was a as a freshman landon Hood,
- 24:50Speaker 7: But I look at it, it's similar, like their lines
- 24:54Speaker 7: are similar from their freshman seasons. The starts gave Evans
- 24:58Speaker 7: trouble outside of one his fresh they gave Hood trouble
- 25:02Speaker 7: outside of one his freshman year. That's not to say
- 25:05Speaker 7: he again can't make the jump.
- 25:06Speaker 6: Plenty of people can.
- 25:07Speaker 7: Cooper More did that, like Cooper Moore was a reliever
- 25:09Speaker 7: his first year at Kansas made the jump as a
- 25:11Speaker 7: starter and was awesome, was very good and ended up
- 25:14Speaker 7: at LSU.
- 25:15Speaker 6: So it can happen.
- 25:16Speaker 7: But I mean, there's even their stuff is similar between
- 25:21Speaker 7: the two. So for me right now in June fifth,
- 25:25Speaker 7: I think Case and Evans is still rotation guy. He's
- 25:28Speaker 7: going to get an opportunity to earn that spot anyway,
- 25:30Speaker 7: like everyone there bringing in. This is competition, right, It's
- 25:34Speaker 7: not right you're coming in, you're starting, you're going to
- 25:37Speaker 7: the No, they're gonna let all these guys earn the
- 25:40Speaker 7: opportunity because that's why they're here. Like Cason Evans wants
- 25:43Speaker 7: to be a starting pitcher, William wants to be a
- 25:45Speaker 7: starting pitcher, Cooper Moore wants to be They all do.
- 25:47Speaker 7: That's where you make the money. So they're all gonna
- 25:50Speaker 7: get that opportunity. We'll just see ultimately, ultimately who wins out.
- 25:53Speaker 7: The great thing is landon Hood's an awesome get for
- 25:55Speaker 7: them stuff standpoint and production like that's proven production in
- 25:59Speaker 7: division one and he's.
- 26:01Speaker 6: Got a lot left. They got to keep developing the
- 26:03Speaker 6: breaking ball, and they do that.
- 26:04Speaker 7: I mean, that's what really could put him over as
- 26:06Speaker 7: a starter when you're not just fastball change up.
- 26:11Speaker 4: If you were to say, and we talked about this
- 26:13Speaker 4: a little bit yesterday, but is so starting pitching and
- 26:18Speaker 4: arms in general, after you don't want to ever not
- 26:20Speaker 4: do that, after you set all the records for the
- 26:22Speaker 4: wrong reasons on the mound, is shortstopped the number one
- 26:25Speaker 4: priority Now with my law, you just you don't know,
- 26:29Speaker 4: like there's a chance. It's not a great chance, but
- 26:31Speaker 4: there's a chance. So how do you navigate that? And Taylor,
- 26:34Speaker 4: I want you to answer that as well. How do
- 26:35Speaker 4: you navigate that knowing that you do have a player
- 26:37Speaker 4: that potentially could come back, but you also know you
- 26:41Speaker 4: have to attack that with full force and the transfer portal.
- 26:44Speaker 6: So you're telling me there's a chance.
- 26:47Speaker 7: Yeah, no, exactly what you just said. You attack it
- 26:49Speaker 7: full force in the transfer but you can't take the risk.
- 26:52Speaker 7: You have to go out and try to sign it
- 26:53Speaker 7: a top flight shortstop, one of the best guys in
- 26:57Speaker 7: the portal. I mean, that's what you're going to do
- 27:00Speaker 7: in preferably one with multiple years of eligibility, who if
- 27:04Speaker 7: Mylam does decide can come back, he can play one
- 27:07Speaker 7: of the other in field positions and then move over
- 27:09Speaker 7: to shortstop the next season. But you have to be
- 27:12Speaker 7: able to have somebody that you trust can play that
- 27:14Speaker 7: position at a high level at this level in the
- 27:17Speaker 7: SEC in case Mileam does leave. And furthermore from that,
- 27:21Speaker 7: Ethan Claus entered the transfer portal last night, not unexpected,
- 27:25Speaker 7: like I would say that was probably expected. The kid
- 27:27Speaker 7: had fort bats, he was a really highly toued a
- 27:29Speaker 7: guy coming out of high school. That's just the type
- 27:31Speaker 7: of player that LSU and most programs have struggled to
- 27:34Speaker 7: keep with him, leaving you return one infielder that you know,
- 27:39Speaker 7: like Milem has his decision, Jack Rutgerts coming back. Jack
- 27:42Speaker 7: Ruckerts is the only one you're bringing in three. I mean,
- 27:45Speaker 7: I believe it's three or four shortstops in your high
- 27:47Speaker 7: school class. Some of them might go pro, some of
- 27:50Speaker 7: them might show up. You have to build depth and
- 27:54Speaker 7: experienced depth all around the infield.
- 27:57Speaker 6: But you attack, you attack the transfer portal.
- 28:00Speaker 7: In my opinion, like Steven Milam is going pro and
- 28:04Speaker 7: you've got to try to find his replacement.
- 28:07Speaker 4: I think you have to because if you don't, you
- 28:09Speaker 4: don't want to be left at the altar right with nothing.
- 28:12Speaker 1: Even if even if you find his replacement and he
- 28:15Speaker 1: comes back, just mentioned it, you basically have an entire
- 28:18Speaker 1: new infield.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Like take a short stop out of it.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Can you get a guy that you signed to play
- 28:22Speaker 1: short MILEM comes back, Hell will put him at second
- 28:24Speaker 1: because guess what, you weren't good there last year.
- 28:26Speaker 4: Either.
- 28:26Speaker 1: You weren't good at third last year either. Your entire
- 28:28Speaker 1: infield was bad, So like, go get a guy, see
- 28:31Speaker 1: if you could plug and play it.
- 28:34Speaker 4: I'm with you. I think you have to be aggressive
- 28:36Speaker 4: at all positions anytime that it comes to this guy
- 28:39Speaker 4: might go to the draft, be at high school, or
- 28:41Speaker 4: be at one of your own guys. You can't sit back.
- 28:44Speaker 4: You got to make sure you have the guy, and
- 28:45Speaker 4: then if you have both, by chance, hey go compete.
- 28:47Speaker 4: Like hell, go win a job, because we are not
- 28:50Speaker 4: sitting here and just being left with nothing to be
- 28:53Speaker 4: able to go back out there and put out there
- 28:55Speaker 4: to be our short stop, to be our lead off
- 28:57Speaker 4: hit or whatever situation might being. Really, I'm talking about
- 29:00Speaker 4: any position real quick, before we move on from baseball.
- 29:06Speaker 4: They got crushed in the high school recruiting class, and
- 29:08Speaker 4: the guys that got drafted, even somebody a portal a
- 29:12Speaker 4: year ago. That's so hard to navigate. It's so hard
- 29:15Speaker 4: to predict. But you do hear people around the program
- 29:19Speaker 4: say they feel better about this class and not losing
- 29:22Speaker 4: as many as they did a year ago.
- 29:25Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, I think one reason for that is
- 29:26Speaker 7: the class is bigger, uh too. I mean, you're you're
- 29:29Speaker 7: gonna and it's just deep and talented like they always are,
- 29:32Speaker 7: but you're looking at twelve twenty four guys in this
- 29:35Speaker 7: in this class. I mean, if you lose six of those,
- 29:39Speaker 7: you're still getting a buttload of talented guys to campus.
- 29:42Speaker 7: So you have a bigger crop there, right And I
- 29:46Speaker 7: think the top of your class is deeper because of that,
- 29:50Speaker 7: which is very good. And they're like they're they're gonna
- 29:56Speaker 7: be happy with the guys that that they get Jay
- 29:59Speaker 7: the way Jay were Crews. You're always going to be
- 30:01Speaker 7: happy with the guys that they get to campus. The
- 30:03Speaker 7: issue is keeping them here has been a bit of
- 30:07Speaker 7: an issue, not just for Relsue for all. I mean,
- 30:09Speaker 7: I think Kentucky's got like three or four freshmen in
- 30:11Speaker 7: the portal right now, so every program goes to that
- 30:14Speaker 7: guys want to play. I think that's one reason you're
- 30:17Speaker 7: seeing mid majors like Little Rock, like Saint John's, like Troy,
- 30:20Speaker 7: like Mercer, like all those coasts be so good now
- 30:24Speaker 7: and be able to compete in these postseason formats because
- 30:28Speaker 7: they're getting more guys out of high school. They're getting
- 30:30Speaker 7: transfers that maybe go down a level like It's that
- 30:33Speaker 7: were at bigger schools.
- 30:34Speaker 6: So yeah, no, I mean they'll be fine.
- 30:37Speaker 7: The eight that they lost to professional baseball year ago
- 30:40Speaker 7: was the most by far in Jay Johnson's time at LSU.
- 30:44Speaker 7: And given where the draft is positioned in July, which
- 30:47Speaker 7: they need to move it back to June just for
- 30:51Speaker 7: the college baseball calendar, that makes it really tough because
- 30:54Speaker 7: the decision happens.
- 30:56Speaker 6: And where are you in the portal? Like you were
- 30:57Speaker 6: just talking about with mylem All.

- 33:03Speaker 4: And well, they helped me out in the way I
- 33:04Speaker 4: didn't even know. I had no idea that the outside
- 33:07Speaker 4: shade was actually going to help the inside portion of
- 33:10Speaker 4: my house. It's gonna shade the living room. It's gonna
- 33:12Speaker 4: save on some of those energy bills. And that's exactly
- 33:16Speaker 4: what it's done. Ktoz Blinds dot com is the website.
- 33:19Speaker 4: Go there today to schedule your appointment. All right, T
- 33:23Speaker 4: say you put this article inside the doc the the
- 33:26Speaker 4: five burning Questions for the LSU Defense, and we'll kind
- 33:30Speaker 4: of go around the room here answer some of the
- 33:33Speaker 4: questions that we have. And the number one question is
- 33:37Speaker 4: who starts along the interior defensive line? And I'm gonna
- 33:40Speaker 4: say my answer is it doesn't matter.
- 33:43Speaker 1: No, I'm good with that because it's a lot of talent,
- 33:45Speaker 1: not a lot of experience.
- 33:46Speaker 4: It doesn't matter because one, there's dudes. That's a big
- 33:51Speaker 4: part of it. It's probably the key part. The second
- 33:54Speaker 4: part why it doesn't matter is no position group rotates
- 33:57Speaker 4: more than the interior of the defensive line. So who
- 34:00Speaker 4: starts does not matter. It's how effective they are, obviously,
- 34:05Speaker 4: But you've got three freshmen that I think are ready
- 34:10Speaker 4: to play right now. You've brought in some players obviously
- 34:12Speaker 4: through the portal, So I don't think it matters. I
- 34:15Speaker 4: think you finally have a group. Last year. That group
- 34:17Speaker 4: was it was poor. Kyle Williams did everything he possibly
- 34:21Speaker 4: could with everything that he had, and I give him
- 34:23Speaker 4: a lot of credit. I give Jacobin Guillery a lot
- 34:25Speaker 4: of credit for working and being the best version that
- 34:28Speaker 4: I've ever seen him be. But there wasn't a whole
- 34:30Speaker 4: lot there. Right, you had an undersized lineman from USF
- 34:33Speaker 4: and he was really good and for what he was, right,
- 34:38Speaker 4: not a drafted guy. None of those guys got drafted.
- 34:40Speaker 4: They're undrafted, free agile rookies. They're in camps, but they
- 34:43Speaker 4: didn't get drafted. It wasn't a very It wasn't an
- 34:47Speaker 4: uber talented group. I don't want to say very because
- 34:48Speaker 4: Jacobin Guillery does have some talent. It was one of,
- 34:52Speaker 4: if not your weakest position group on the football team
- 34:55Speaker 4: last year.
- 34:56Speaker 2: I think you got this.
- 34:58Speaker 4: Now You're like, hey, let's go get three really ready
- 35:03Speaker 4: to play freshmen to put into that group.
- 35:05Speaker 1: Well, dude, I mean in spring, this is why I'm
- 35:09Speaker 1: so high on Deucee Gerald's He was repping with the
- 35:11Speaker 1: ones at defensive tackle. At two hundred and seventy pounds,
- 35:16Speaker 1: I imagine he's gonna put on a little bit more
- 35:18Speaker 1: than that and play closer to probably two eighty five.
- 35:21Speaker 1: That's probably only going to make him better. Can Dominic
- 35:24Speaker 1: McKinley take the next step, Richard Anderson, Lamar Brown wasn't
- 35:27Speaker 1: even there in spring ball. What's he going to give?
- 35:30Speaker 1: It's the filing green. I mean, he was in and
- 35:32Speaker 1: out of the lineup in spring with an injury. But
- 35:34Speaker 1: he's a guy that's played a lot of football. Mylaitue
- 35:36Speaker 1: blocked AND's played a lot of football. To your point
- 35:39Speaker 1: about it not mattering, you got the perfect mix right
- 35:42Speaker 1: now of like big time, highly touted freshmen. Yeah, and
- 35:46Speaker 1: the savvy veteran group. I always like when a room
- 35:49Speaker 1: is mixed with like that, that sort of difference, right
- 35:52Speaker 1: like the veteran that's been there, done that may not
- 35:54Speaker 1: be eye popping, the highly touted freshman that's gonna make
- 35:57Speaker 1: everybody better.
- 35:58Speaker 2: I'm actually kind of excited about this room.
- 36:01Speaker 4: I think you should be. I think he's got a
- 36:02Speaker 4: little bit of everything. I think it's got some young
- 36:05Speaker 4: players even that have different skill sets, and I'm excited
- 36:08Speaker 4: to see what Lamar Brown can because we didn't get
- 36:11Speaker 4: yet in the spring. Because uh, you know the way
- 36:14Speaker 4: that his high school schedule wasn't Actually, don't blame guys
- 36:18Speaker 4: for doing that, Like, hey, man, go have your spring
- 36:20Speaker 4: your senior year, go play enjoy this, to.
- 36:25Speaker 7: Prom track all those things, all that enjoy high school.
- 36:29Speaker 4: Yes, and I know it's so tough because like eighty
- 36:32Speaker 4: five percent of the recruiting class does it. But he
- 36:34Speaker 4: will be here. He'll have an opportunity. You know, he can.
- 36:38Speaker 4: He can play catch up here in the summertime. But
- 36:41Speaker 4: you know you've also got a couple of transfers in
- 36:43Speaker 4: from some big schools, from Auburn, from Clemson. That is
- 36:46Speaker 4: the position group for l s U that I think
- 36:49Speaker 4: got head and shoulders more talent into the room than
- 36:53Speaker 4: it had the year before. It got has the most improvement,
- 36:57Speaker 4: I think. And I'm sitting here and I'm trying to
- 36:59Speaker 4: write my brain. I don't want to misspeak. But without
- 37:02Speaker 4: even looking at the analytics of it, I can tell
- 37:04Speaker 4: you from what it was to what it is, it
- 37:07Speaker 4: got better more than any position.
- 37:08Speaker 2: For sure, you hoop ed Drusher does the same thing.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Just think about last year you brought in Pieburn, you
- 37:14Speaker 1: brought in Patrick Page and Jamari Butler. I mean pairing
- 37:17Speaker 1: that with Gabrellaford. None of them were able to give
- 37:19Speaker 1: you anything they I mean like Harold Perkins led your
- 37:23Speaker 1: team in Sex with three and a half as an individual,
- 37:25Speaker 1: Like think about that, he was your star last year.
- 37:28Speaker 1: None of those guys were able to give you think
- 37:30Speaker 1: can you get I mean, we know Prince will Human
- 37:32Speaker 1: Miel and I mean he was really good at Old Miss.
- 37:34Speaker 2: You hope that translates.
- 37:35Speaker 1: Jordan Ross had played a ton because of injury, but
- 37:38Speaker 1: that's a former highly recruited guy. Anything along that defensive front.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Like I'm cautiously optimistic because we haven't seen it, but
- 37:46Speaker 1: the talent's there.
- 37:48Speaker 6: It kind of looks like an LSU defensive liab does.
- 37:51Speaker 4: That's what I.
- 37:52Speaker 7: Said, Like that's the you know when you were going
- 37:54Speaker 7: through it from last year, Jake, And you're right. It
- 37:57Speaker 7: just and look the part. They played hard, they gave effort.
- 38:02Speaker 7: It like they they went out there and they fought.
- 38:05Speaker 4: Yeah, but it.
- 38:06Speaker 6: Didn't it didn't look the part.
- 38:08Speaker 4: No, you had three sacks between your two edge rushers
- 38:11Speaker 4: that you brought in.
- 38:12Speaker 6: This looks the part.
- 38:13Speaker 7: Now we'll see how they go out when they go
- 38:15Speaker 7: out there and they actually put the pads on and
- 38:17Speaker 7: they play real football Week one against Clemson, which is
- 38:20Speaker 7: going to be a physical game. I know Clemson obviously
- 38:22Speaker 7: is not the team that they were, but that's going
- 38:23Speaker 7: to be physical.
- 38:24Speaker 6: You know, the SEC is going to be physical.
- 38:26Speaker 7: We'll see how it looks then, but at least now,
- 38:29Speaker 7: like Duke Geralds looks like an LSU defensive lineman, Richard
- 38:32Speaker 7: Anderson looks like an LSU defensive lineman that.
- 38:35Speaker 6: We've been so accustomed to.
- 38:36Speaker 7: And when LSU has been their best, yep, they've had
- 38:40Speaker 7: first rounders and draft picks on the defensive line, and
- 38:44Speaker 7: it feels like you have that again across all class
- 38:48Speaker 7: levels and as you said, different skill sets.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Well, think about last year Bernard goodin six eight. Yeah,
- 38:56Speaker 1: this is what he was on the roster, and like
- 38:58Speaker 1: sure he made plays in fall camp like that. That
- 39:01Speaker 1: was not a joke, Like he actually went out there
- 39:03Speaker 1: and he made plays. It didn't translate on the field,
- 39:05Speaker 1: but I mean neither did a lot of the transfers
- 39:07Speaker 1: you brought in.
- 39:07Speaker 4: But he had and Good and got hurt. He had
- 39:10Speaker 4: he did shoulder.
- 39:11Speaker 2: Yeah, he had to get shoulder in playing through so
- 39:13Speaker 2: yeah he was playing through it.
- 39:14Speaker 1: But like to your point, like that's an undersized defensive
- 39:17Speaker 1: lineman you brought in and you're like, we're so thin
- 39:20Speaker 1: at this position. You have to come in and immediately
- 39:22Speaker 1: start on the interior of the d line. Not that
- 39:25Speaker 1: it's going to translate on the field. Maybe he does,
- 39:27Speaker 1: maybe he doesn't, But the guys this year don't look
- 39:28Speaker 1: like that.
- 39:29Speaker 7: The depth is overall is just better too, and it's
- 39:33Speaker 7: more experienced at a high level of college football.
- 39:36Speaker 4: Yeah. And the second question here on this same article,
- 39:39Speaker 4: and this is on go two four seven you can
- 39:41Speaker 4: check it out two four seven sports dot com. Will
- 39:44Speaker 4: Lamar Brown hit the ground running. We've already kind of
- 39:46Speaker 4: talked about that and what he is. Watching him over
- 39:49Speaker 4: the last couple of years, he played like right next
- 39:52Speaker 4: to my son a lot of times, and so like
- 39:54Speaker 4: I saw him dominate on a football field. I think
- 39:57Speaker 4: he's got a great work ethic. I think he is
- 39:59Speaker 4: ready to go. Oh can't wait to see how Blake
- 40:01Speaker 4: Baker in that staff utilized him, because again, he's got
- 40:04Speaker 4: a different skill set than the other two young defensive lineman.
- 40:07Speaker 4: Question number three, we'll get to this last one before
- 40:10Speaker 4: we take a break. Who emerges as cornerback four in
- 40:14Speaker 4: baton rouge. And so if you're going to say that,
- 40:18Speaker 4: you know the obvious statement here is DJ Pikett your
- 40:20Speaker 4: number one corner. But PJ Woodland, I know Teta, you're
- 40:23Speaker 4: a big fan of what he's done, certainly a year ago.
- 40:26Speaker 4: We know those are your first two. So Jakeem Jackson,
- 40:29Speaker 4: who actually didn't play a lot last year, but when
- 40:31Speaker 4: he did it was kind of impactful and made a
- 40:34Speaker 4: couple of big plays. You've got, you know Hall, who's
- 40:38Speaker 4: going to be a freshman. You got some younger players
- 40:42Speaker 4: that don't have really a lot of experience uh there
- 40:46Speaker 4: behind him. So it is a question because behind those
- 40:50Speaker 4: three guys, because you had a big injury was it
- 40:54Speaker 4: got one of during an interception, So you don't have
- 41:00Speaker 4: a lot there as far as depth. And so when
- 41:02Speaker 4: you see this question, you might be like, why does
- 41:04Speaker 4: it matter who your fourth corner is? But when you
- 41:06Speaker 4: look at it and you see your two starters and
- 41:08Speaker 4: you see Jakeem Jackson behind that, it's a lot of unknown.
- 41:12Speaker 1: I'd expand it to safety as well, Like I didn't
- 41:14Speaker 1: get to go out there to every practice because a
- 41:16Speaker 1: lot of times it was during our show. But I
- 41:18Speaker 1: went out to pretty much every Saturday scrimmage, they had
- 41:22Speaker 1: the depth on the secondary. I think your front line's great,
- 41:24Speaker 1: I mean Coolly, Benefield, Spears, Woodland, Picket, I mean, you
- 41:28Speaker 1: name it.
- 41:29Speaker 2: I think those guys are awesome.
- 41:30Speaker 1: Corner and safety the two's I think they have a
- 41:34Speaker 1: lot to work on. Like you mentioned, Jackson anding was
- 41:37Speaker 1: kind of running. Is that second number two corner in
- 41:41Speaker 1: that second group. Secondary safety is a relative unknown right now.
- 41:45Speaker 1: I mean there's a lot of guys there. None of
- 41:47Speaker 1: them have played meaningful snaps here at LSU outside of
- 41:50Speaker 1: those top two to three guys, So like I'd extend
- 41:52Speaker 1: it to safety, corner safety, the secondary depth is a
- 41:56Speaker 1: big That's probably my biggest concern on defense.
- 41:59Speaker 4: All right, Well, we can talk about some of those
- 42:02Speaker 4: other questions. We can get to the other ones. I
- 42:04Speaker 4: mean you mentioned kind of the safety position there. I
- 42:07Speaker 4: think the defensive backfield from what you have to roll
- 42:10Speaker 4: out there starting lineup, you feel really good about. The
- 42:13Speaker 4: problem is if you have one injury, think about it
- 42:16Speaker 4: to guys like Pickett, Cooley, Benefield, like you mentioned, Woodland
- 42:20Speaker 4: behind them, isn't comparable to what you're losing there because
- 42:24Speaker 4: of the experience. Even Deshaun Spears who doesn't have a
- 42:26Speaker 4: ton of starts, he still has a ton of experiences,
- 42:29Speaker 4: have big games against teams like Florida. So even your
- 42:31Speaker 4: star has a lot of success out there on the
- 42:34Speaker 4: field in purple and gold. The backups just don't have
- 42:37Speaker 4: that right now, all right, we'll get to the final
- 42:39Speaker 4: two questions when we come back here on OTB.
- 42:42Speaker 6: Off the bench, all right.

- 44:03Speaker 3: Blocked in on LSU football twenty four to seven. You're
- 44:06Speaker 3: listening to off the bench time.
- 44:16Speaker 4: Heyday, I'm not letting that go. We'll come back to
- 44:18Speaker 4: that next hour. This man's going to see scary movies
- 44:22Speaker 4: seventeen with his whole family.
- 44:24Speaker 6: Hell yeah, dude, it's sick out.
- 44:26Speaker 4: It's seventeen. You can't convince me otherwise. All right, let's
- 44:30Speaker 4: get back to this article. Go to four to seven
- 44:32Speaker 4: two four seven sports dot com. Five for any questions
- 44:34Speaker 4: for the LSU defense number four. Just how great will
- 44:36Speaker 4: Tie Benefield be? I could answer that question for you.
- 44:39Speaker 4: In fact, I'm putting together my twenty twenty six All
- 44:42Speaker 4: Meathead football team in the Field Steel magazine, and he
- 44:44Speaker 4: has on the All Meathead team. But there is no one,
- 44:47Speaker 4: and I mean nobody in the city of Vaton Rouge
- 44:50Speaker 4: in the state of Louisiana, including Blake Baker that loves
- 44:52Speaker 4: ty Bennefield more than Taylor Sharp. So Taylor take it away.
- 44:56Speaker 2: Todd Benderfield is going to be really great, is the
- 44:57Speaker 2: answer this second.
- 45:00Speaker 1: That's why I was so excited when he got signed
- 45:02Speaker 1: in the portal because you may think, oh, well, safety
- 45:05Speaker 1: might not be your biggest need as far as starter wise,
- 45:08Speaker 1: Yet he's gonna do so much for your defense. It
- 45:10Speaker 1: allows the Shawn Spears to go down and play star,
- 45:12Speaker 1: which I think he's perfect for. He was really good
- 45:15Speaker 1: at in the spring. Todd Bennifield can cover, he could
- 45:18Speaker 1: come up and make tackles at the line of scrimmage.
- 45:20Speaker 1: He's that complete safety center fielder at the line of
- 45:24Speaker 1: scrimmage what you've been needing for years. I think Todd
- 45:26Speaker 1: Bennfield is gonna be awesome.
- 45:30Speaker 4: Who does he like If you were to say, and
- 45:33Speaker 4: again you know him as well as anybody. If you
- 45:35Speaker 4: were to say, like, give me a LSU safety in
- 45:38Speaker 4: the history of LSU football that he kind of comps.
- 45:40Speaker 1: To Grant Delpit would be mine, because I would say
- 45:43Speaker 1: Jamal Jamal spent a little bit more time at the
- 45:45Speaker 1: line of scrimmage Minnifield probably covers a little bit better,
- 45:48Speaker 1: all right. I mean, Delpit's taller, like Deulpit was six',
- 45:52Speaker 1: Three minnfield is not, that but they play similar all.
- 45:56Speaker 4: Right and the last, question Will witweeks return to? Form
- 45:59Speaker 4: i'll answer that. One, yes he. Will he's gonna be
- 46:02Speaker 4: healthy for the first time Since Moby dick was a minno.
- 46:05Speaker 4: Like he just hasn't been. Healthy the guy tried to
- 46:07Speaker 4: grit it out Against South, carolina Against, oklahoma he tried
- 46:10Speaker 4: everything he. Could they've been smart with him this. Offseason
