- 0:00SPEAKER_01: Hello, welcome to the Glimpse Method podcast.
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: Today is Monday, and um we are going, or I, we, well, me and my dogs and my cat hanging out here in the sunroom.
- 0:15SPEAKER_01: We are gonna do our weekly glimpse guide.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: Now I get my inspiration for the weekly glimpse guide from the podcast weekly energy boost, but they did not post one today.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: And so I've just been kind of struggling over here.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: I haven't um not because of that, but um a little bit because I was waiting for inspiration for that, and then I just thought I'm gonna do a mini breath work session, and I'm gonna fully do it as well.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: Um because I have been in a lot of transition and just kind of a tough place.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Um a little bit about what's been going on.
- 1:06SPEAKER_01: I think I've shared that our daughter is having some mental health struggles.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: Um, and we've been gone all summer, really.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Um, between Nate, my husband and I, we uh she was getting treatment in Arizona where my parents live.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: So we took turns.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: I took her out there, stayed there, got her in a residential program.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: And when it was clear that she was gonna stay, I came back, and then things kind of went downhill at the residential place she was staying.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: They mixed up her medications, and actually, most of the people in there were there for substance abuse, and a lot older than her, and so it became clear it wasn't a good fit.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: So my husband went down to Arizona for three weeks, and I stayed here um in Minnesota, taking care of the house, going to work, taking care of all of our pets, and her um, my daughter's girlfriend was living with us for the past year.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: She was also in a um treatment program for an eating disorder.
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: So I was trying to visit her and support her.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: Um, we also had a foster dog with a broken leg.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: So um anyway, he stayed down in Arizona for three weeks, and then we she got out of her residential program and went to a partial hospitalization program that was pretty close to where my parents lived.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: So um that's if you're not familiar with that, that's just like an everyday program, but you live at home.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: So he was there with her for three weeks, and then I went down for two weeks for her to finish up that program.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: And we got back, both kids were home, things seemed to be okay, and then it felt like all of a sudden our daughter was telling us that she did not feel safe and she needed to go to the hospital.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: So last week she we well, she wanted to do it on her own.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: So the first day she went to an emergency room, and um actually where I work, the emergency room there, and they have a unit that they use as kind of like a mental hospital, but they don't give people a bed, and there's not really programming, so it's a little bit weird, and she didn't feel comfortable, so she left, and then the next day her dad and I brought her to a different emergency room.
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: She was then admitted to um a short-term mental hospital, and um, as we were going to visit her that first day, her girlfriend shared with us that she was going to be leaving and going back to be with her parents, which honestly, when she told me that, I my reaction was fear.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: I was so scared for my daughter and being in such a horrible place mentally, and then having us come and visit and um her girlfriend breaking that news to her was pretty torturous, pretty gut-wrenching.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: It is not natural for you to witness the breaking up, and it's her first breakup.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: Um, and it was pretty awful, but in hindsight, it was probably number one for the best um because they both have issues and they need to focus on themselves now, and I think it started to be a little bit of a codependent thing.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: Anyway, um, her girlfriend left.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: Our daughter came home.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: Things seemed to be going well.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: Nate and I busted our asses, excuse my French, um, to get her room kind of changed around.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: I felt like it needed an energy shift, and so I ordered a few things and changed the furniture around, screwed my back up a little bit, and then um her girlfriend's room, we made that into like a craft room.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: And um another sad part of her girlfriend leaving is she had this awesome cat that we all freaking loved, and so our daughter was like, I need a cat.
- 5:51SPEAKER_01: So, anyway, long story short, we are getting a new member of our family on Thursday.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: He is very sweet and he's um at a shelter nearby by our house.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: Um, and we went to a bunch of different shelters and um found him.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: He basically, when we went into a little room, he just crawled on our lap and started rubbing his face on her face, and she was like, This is it.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: So he's getting his surgery, and then we're picking him up on Thursday.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: And I have also started a new job at the same place, but just a different.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: I was working daytime shifts, and that wasn't going so great for me.
- 6:36SPEAKER_01: Just a lot of the different energies.
- 6:38SPEAKER_01: Um, a lot of people were leaving, a lot of new people starting.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: There's a few things going on with people's different personalities and energy, and it was starting to affect me.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: So I actually got um a weekend bailer job, and anybody who knows what that is, it's a weekend.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: So basically I work every weekend, um, Saturday and Sunday, 10 to 10, and um I get um committing to every weekend, I get pay and a half.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: So it has been great.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: I had my second weekend um this weekend.
- 7:17SPEAKER_01: I just love the there's less people there, number one.
- 7:21SPEAKER_01: It's just a different vibe um in the emergency room on the weekends, and I've been loving everybody that I work with, and um it's all good.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: Um and I think things, um, I'm really proud of my daughter.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: She has, I know she's sad, but she has been unbelievably strong and feeling a little bit more independent, and you know, she's got a couple of really good friends that have been supporting her.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: Um, she mentioned, you know, she's got just great parents, which really made us feel good because we have really tried to support her throughout her life and her challenges.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: She um is on the spectrum, she also has some PTSD, just a lot of stuff um for a young kiddo to deal with and and for the parents too.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: So anyway, I just have not been my normal Zen self.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: And so I want to take this episode to breathe together, and we are just going to do um, I would say I want to start with the reverse triactive, so we're gonna breathe in twice through our nose and exhale through our mouth.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: The first breath is aimed at the belly, the second at the chest, and I am just gonna be doing that breath.
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: Um, and we'll do a breath hold, which I will um invite you into, and then we'll just do the halo active to wrap up that's in through the nose, out through the mouth, and um I'm just gonna go as long as I feel like it.
- 9:14SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna do this intuitively, and we will end with a breath hold as well because I am obsessed with breath holds.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: Um, so uh you are welcome to do this with me.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: You do not have to do um the breath that I, you know, if you're feeling uncomfortable or it's too much, just do your normal breath.
- 9:40SPEAKER_01: The breath holds can be pretty intense.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: So um, if you have any heart issues or if you've had a detached retina or aneurysms, um don't do the active breath or the breath holds, but we are just gonna start.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna pick some music afterwards, um, but you'll be hearing it now because I'm just recording it.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: So, anyway, let's just start.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: Um, if you are in a safe place, you can either lie down or sit, um, preferably in a chair with a back and sides, and um just I invite you to just get really comfortable where you are, make adjustments, um, you know, roll your neck, um, stretch your arms out, shake your hands, and come to a still position.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: And we will start with the reverse tractive.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: So in through the nose twice, and out through the mouth, in through the nose twice, and out through the mouth.
- 10:55SPEAKER_01: Continue doing that, and um, I will be back on to invite you into that breath hold and possibly a little bit of intuitive coaching as we go along.
- 11:12SPEAKER_01: So let's let's breathe as you're exhaling, really focus on relaxing the muscles in your neck and shoulders, in your face.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: If you don't like it, release that active breath and just follow your natural breath.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: Breathing in twice, filling the belly first, then the chest.
- 13:25SPEAKER_01: And then exhaling, releasing.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: Rather, I'm gonna invite you into a breath hold.
- 15:33SPEAKER_01: So after exhaling all of your air out, you will take a deep, deep inhale through your nose, and you'll hold that breath at the top.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Go ahead.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: As you're holding that breath, just relax your whole body.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: Hold that breath at the top.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: My breath work coach in my certification calls this the curve of chaos.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: Feels really good to hold it past when you think you're gonna pass out.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: You won't pass out.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Just hold that breath a long time, and then when you finally exhale, just exhale, release, and just feel that energy buzzing through you, and then you can move into the inhale through the nose, exhale through the mouth.
- 16:35SPEAKER_01: Okay, I'm gonna do my hold now.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: You're breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: I hope you enjoyed the breath.
- 17:44SPEAKER_01: Hold on.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Just go ahead.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: We'll do a couple minutes of this halo active in through the nose, out through the mouth, any pace or depth that feels good to you.
- 18:21SPEAKER_01: Allow your body to lead you as thoughts come in, acknowledge, and release them.
- 18:29SPEAKER_01: Need to judge or think about them too long.
- 18:36SPEAKER_01: Just let them go.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: So after you exhale, inhale deeply through your nose, hold it for as long as you can, or as long as you're comfortable.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: And then when you release it, just come to your normal breath.
- 21:04SPEAKER_01: If you enjoyed this breath work, or have if you've been enjoying it on the podcast, I do have a community where I do live sessions.
- 21:13SPEAKER_01: There's also plenty of recorded sessions that you can do at any time.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: It is such a beautiful way to give yourself some time and space, and um it really works like meditation.
- 21:30SPEAKER_01: Um, it's so beneficial physically, mentally, spiritually, you name it.
- 21:36SPEAKER_01: Um, I have a school community that's S-K-O-O-L, um, and it is called the Glimpse Space.
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: So you can search there, you can send me a note, and I can give you information.
- 21:49SPEAKER_01: I also have my walking challenge, um, the homegirl walk, where we go through the entire glimpse method.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: It's a method I developed um with seven pillars.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: So each walk um we go deeper into each pillar.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: There's four walks per pillar, so that comes to 28 walks.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: It's just 20 minutes, and you can do that um in your home.
- 22:18SPEAKER_01: That's why I call it Home Girl Walk.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: That's kind of how it was born.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: I um was doing walks um around my kitchen island, and I called it Manifest Island.
- 22:28SPEAKER_01: Manifest is one of the pillars.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: Um, anywho, so what else did I want to tell you today?
- 22:38SPEAKER_01: Um, thanks for listening.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: Hopefully, not too much TMI, but things are looking up, and that breathwork session that we just did was great.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: So thanks for joining me for that.
- 22:54SPEAKER_01: And um, we'll be back on Thursday.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure what the podcast will be about on Thursday, but I'm sure I will think of something fun to chat about.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: So thanks so much for joining me and reach out if you would.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: That would be great to hear from you and great to you know hear if you've been through any of the same challenges I'm going through, um, or your own challenges.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: It would be great to support each other.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: So I hope you have a wonderful week and um hey, it's my favorite season coming up, fall, yay.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: So um, I hope that wherever you are, you are enjoying the change of seasons.
- 23:46SPEAKER_01: Okay, take care.
