- 0:01Speaker 1: Line from the skying New Center. This is the Kenny Report.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Thanks for joining me tonight.
- 0:08Speaker 2: The Federal Labor Party caught in a bind as the
- 0:11Speaker 2: CFMEU corruption scandal deepens and the union's tentacles reach into
- 0:16Speaker 2: the ALP. I'll get the views of a labor insider.
- 0:20Speaker 2: He might have been blackballed by Donald Trump, but our
- 0:22Speaker 2: man in the United States, Kevin Rudd, dares to offer
- 0:26Speaker 2: advice to other ambassadors. The ABC is again using your
- 0:31Speaker 2: tax dollars to pump out misleading anti Trump bile I
- 0:35Speaker 2: took to Annalise Nielsen at the Republican Convention in Milwaukee.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Pauline Hansen joins me too. We'll look at more idiocy
- 0:42Speaker 2: from Chris Bowen. And of course we've got the Wednesday rangle.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Let's get cracking.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Let's start tonight on home soil and this omni shambles
- 0:53Speaker 2: involving the nation's most militant union, the thugish CFMEU.
- 0:58Speaker 1: This union is known for its Bobby Boyd tactics.
- 1:00Speaker 2: It took over representation of construction workers where the infamous
- 1:05Speaker 2: Builders Laborer's Federation left off after it was deregistered in
- 1:09Speaker 2: the wake of corruption scandals. Royal commissions and other investigations
- 1:13Speaker 2: have led to a series of criminal prosecutions and millions
- 1:17Speaker 2: of dollars of fines against the CFMEU. No one should
- 1:21Speaker 2: be surprised about its antics. The CFMEU is affiliated with
- 1:25Speaker 2: the ALP.
- 1:26Speaker 1: This is what the ALP is.
- 1:28Speaker 2: It's the political arm of the union movement and the
- 1:31Speaker 2: CFMEU is one of the largest financial donors and through
- 1:35Speaker 2: its factional power structure, this union wields enormous political power
- 1:40Speaker 2: inside labor, especially through the Socialist Left faction. The Socialist
- 1:46Speaker 2: Left faction, by the way, includes among its senior members,
- 1:49Speaker 2: the Foreign Minister Penny Wong, the Queensland Premier Stephen Miles,
- 1:54Speaker 2: former Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and his successor Jacenta Allen,
- 1:58Speaker 2: and the Prime Minister Anthony Albanisi. So the political gravitas
- 2:03Speaker 2: of the CFMEU scandal cannot be overestimated. As nine media
- 2:08Speaker 2: newspapers and television reports over the past week have detailed
- 2:12Speaker 2: more shocking allegations of thuggery, bribery and alleged corruption.
- 2:17Speaker 3: The ladies stamming development is this vision captured inside the
- 2:21Speaker 3: cfmeu's Sydney office, appearing to show the new South Wales
- 2:25Speaker 3: branch boss Darren Greenfield being passed five thousand dollars in cash. Now,
- 2:29Speaker 3: these pictures are from a hidden police camera, evidence that
- 2:33Speaker 3: was instrumental in him being charged with corruption in twenty
- 2:37Speaker 3: twenty one. He denies those charges and is still at
- 2:41Speaker 3: the head of the brand.
- 2:43Speaker 2: This is terrible stuff and it impacts on all of
- 2:46Speaker 2: us because this activity, these alleged illegal practices, dramatically increased
- 2:51Speaker 2: the costs of all construction, especially major government projects, so
- 2:55Speaker 2: we all end up paying the bill through higher property
- 2:58Speaker 2: prices and higher tax But the same labor politicians who
- 3:02Speaker 2: know this union is a major donor and holds factional
- 3:06Speaker 2: power within their party, well they're surprised.
- 3:10Speaker 4: I know there has been some commentary of oh, but
- 3:13Speaker 4: everybody must have known. Can I just say and ask
- 3:16Speaker 4: journalists to take journalists.
- 3:17Speaker 5: At their word.
- 3:19Speaker 4: This has been published as news, a lot of it
- 3:20Speaker 4: has been published as exclusive. There is no doubt that
- 3:23Speaker 4: new information has emerged in recent days and over the
- 3:27Speaker 4: last week.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Labor is now being pushed into action.
- 3:31Speaker 2: The cfmemeu's notorious Victorian boss John Secker, resigned last week
- 3:36Speaker 2: ahead of the revelations.
- 3:38Speaker 1: The union says it's.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Going to investigate the allegations itself, which is pretty laughable.
- 3:43Speaker 2: The alban Easy labor government now says it will force
- 3:46Speaker 2: independent administrators to run the union branches, but have a
- 3:49Speaker 2: listened to the Industrial Relations minister when asked about whether
- 3:52Speaker 2: labor should should stop taking money from the CFMEMEU.
- 3:58Speaker 4: I've referred to the decisions they made quite properly. They're
- 4:01Speaker 4: not made by ministers. These decisions. I usually only find
- 4:04Speaker 4: out about amounts when journalists know the numbers. It's not
- 4:06Speaker 4: something that interests me.
- 4:08Speaker 2: Really, a labor cabinet minister can't offer a view on
- 4:12Speaker 2: taking money from this outfit.
- 4:14Speaker 1: That's a classic. It's a classic case of you know
- 4:18Speaker 1: the story.
- 4:19Speaker 6: Awboll sayss nuts not fensible, shore nuts not.
- 4:26Speaker 1: She can answer for he gets you.
- 4:30Speaker 6: He thinks is not not not fensible. Shut us.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Look, this is a serious problem for labor.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Remember one of the first things that Albanize did on
- 4:43Speaker 2: coming to Offers was to get rid of the tough
- 4:46Speaker 2: industrial relations cop on this beat, the Building and Construction Commission.
- 4:51Speaker 1: The Albanesi government.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Did the union movements bidding and got rid of this
- 4:54Speaker 2: body for the second time. So a large part of
- 4:57Speaker 2: any blame over the re emergence of boy or criminal
- 5:01Speaker 2: behavior surely must lie at the feet of the alban
- 5:04Speaker 2: Easy labor government. But in the United States, where incredibly
- 5:08Speaker 2: the Teamsters union boss endorsed Donald Trump at the Republican Convention,
- 5:14Speaker 2: the former labor Prime Minister now Ambassador to the US,
- 5:17Speaker 2: Kevin Rudd, well, he thought the allegations of union criminality
- 5:22Speaker 2: were good for a laugh, referencing the infamous US teamster
- 5:26Speaker 2: boss and convicted criminal Jimmy Hoffer, who disappeared in the
- 5:30Speaker 2: nineteen seventies, thought to have been murdered by organized crime figures.
- 5:35Speaker 7: Well, I'm waiting for SECA to set himself up in
- 5:38Speaker 7: Australia to address the next Federal Council of the Liberal Party, and.
- 5:43Speaker 1: I'm not sure he'll be invited.
- 5:45Speaker 7: Well, fu Teamsters, Jimmy Hoffer.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Not funny, Ambassador, at least not back in Australia where
- 5:54Speaker 2: your boss, the current Prime Minister, is in all sorts
- 5:57Speaker 2: of strife on this issue.
- 6:00Speaker 8: This possible response from Anthony Albanezi would be to a
- 6:02Speaker 8: point an administrator to the CFMU. That's like going into
- 6:07Speaker 8: one of the bikey organizations and the police saying, well,
- 6:09Speaker 8: let's just change out the leadership here and put in
- 6:13Speaker 8: an administrator and somehow the activities of the bikes will
- 6:18Speaker 8: correct itself. It's a complete nonsense. It's an abrogation of
- 6:21Speaker 8: the Prime Minister's responsibility. The only thing that's changed here
- 6:25Speaker 8: is that the Prime Minister's mates have been caught on tape,
- 6:28Speaker 8: and that's what's happened here. The Prime Minister has known
- 6:30Speaker 8: of the activities of the CFMU for years and years.
- 6:34Speaker 2: The ACTU has now suspended the union. No doubt Labour's
- 6:38Speaker 2: National executive will soon take action and probably stop taking
- 6:42Speaker 2: donations from the CFMEU for a while. At least, maybe
- 6:46Speaker 2: they should donate the millions they've already received to charity.
- 6:50Speaker 2: What Labor should do is dump the union from its
- 6:53Speaker 2: organizational structure and reinstate the ABCC.
- 6:57Speaker 1: The tough cop on the beat.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Just on Kevin Rudd and that Republican convention in Milwaukee.
- 7:07Speaker 2: It was a pretty revealing interview he gave to former treasurer,
- 7:11Speaker 2: former US ambassador and now Sky News roving reporter Joe Hockey.
- 7:16Speaker 2: We all know Rudd has never been light on for
- 7:18Speaker 2: self belief. If self belief equated to political awareness, he'd
- 7:22Speaker 2: still be Prime Minister. But nothing we've seen from Rudd
- 7:26Speaker 2: tops this. This ambassador who tells us he's developing relationships
- 7:31Speaker 2: with the Republicans by texting them with no word on
- 7:34Speaker 2: whether they're even returning his text. Well, he's now deigning
- 7:38Speaker 2: to offer advice to other Washington ambassadors.
- 7:43Speaker 7: What I say too many ambassadors in Washington is it's
- 7:49Speaker 7: really important to chill.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Just chill.
- 7:54Speaker 7: A simple reason is, if President Trump's elected on the
- 7:58Speaker 7: fifth of November, We're not going over some chasms for
- 8:03Speaker 7: US in Australia and for allies United States. This is
- 8:07Speaker 7: a perfectly navigable and manageable set of relationships for the
- 8:11Speaker 7: next four years.
- 8:13Speaker 1: This is too much, isn't it.
- 8:14Speaker 2: We've had tantrums about Chinese scripts, We've had tantrums about
- 8:19Speaker 2: meals on planes, We've had silly claims to be an
- 8:22Speaker 2: economic conservative, but this trumps them all.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Pardon the pun.
- 8:27Speaker 2: This bloke is telling other ambassadors not to be too
- 8:30Speaker 2: worried about a Trump presidency when we all know his
- 8:34Speaker 2: social media posts have said Donald Trump is a traitor
- 8:37Speaker 2: to the West and that with News Corp is involved
- 8:40Speaker 2: in rancid treachery, but also called Trump the most destructive
- 8:45Speaker 2: president in history and said he was dragging America and
- 8:49Speaker 2: democracy through the mud. And this bloke now tells his
- 8:53Speaker 2: diplomatic mates on the cocktail circuit to chill. Maybe his
- 8:59Speaker 2: ambassadorial will be more likely to listen to Donald Trump.
- 9:04Speaker 1: And he's now Australia's ambassador in Washington.
- 9:07Speaker 9: Yeah, well, I don't know. He won't be there long
- 9:11Speaker 9: if that's the case. I don't know much about him.
- 9:13Speaker 9: I heard he was a little bit nasty here. He's
- 9:16Speaker 9: not the brightest bulb, but I don't know much about him.
- 9:20Speaker 9: But if he's at all hostile, he will not be
- 9:23Speaker 9: there long.
- 9:25Speaker 1: Aha.
- 9:25Speaker 2: This must mean that both Rudd and his mate Anthony Alberizi,
- 9:29Speaker 2: who appointed him, are hoping that Trump has become as
- 9:32Speaker 2: forgetful as Joe Biden.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Otherwise, if Trump.
- 9:36Speaker 2: Returns to the White House, why would they expect the
- 9:39Speaker 2: president to even deal with Rudd, Which leads me to
- 9:42Speaker 2: one thing that Rudd did get right.
- 9:45Speaker 7: The challenge will be first encounters and how we manage
- 9:49Speaker 7: that in a positive way. If President Trump is elected.
- 9:54Speaker 2: You can say that again, good luck establishing your text
- 9:57Speaker 2: based relationship with Trump.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Mark to White House.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Maybe if Trump wins Elbow should call rud home and
- 10:05Speaker 2: reinstate Joe Hockey. I'll have plenty more on the Republican
- 10:12Speaker 2: Convention and the way Donald Trump's old opponents are now
- 10:15Speaker 2: endorsing him in just a few minutes with Annalise Nilsen.
- 10:18Speaker 1: But let me just update you on a couple of things.
- 10:21Speaker 2: I showed you this appalling display first last night, the
- 10:24Speaker 2: show in Sydney on Sunday by comedy rock band Tenacious D,
- 10:29Speaker 2: starring the comedian Jack Black and he sidekick Kyle Gass.
- 10:46Speaker 5: Trump.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Next time, just appalling.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Of course, one innocent man is dead, two people are
- 10:57Speaker 2: seriously wounded, and this clown is barracking for a successful
- 11:01Speaker 2: assassination attempt. Next time, I told you last night that
- 11:04Speaker 2: canceled a concert in Newcastle. Will Now Black has distanced
- 11:08Speaker 2: himself from the attempted joke, the rest of the Australian
- 11:11Speaker 2: tour has been canceled. Gas's agent has dropped him, and
- 11:15Speaker 2: we might not hear from Tenacious D ever again. This
- 11:20Speaker 2: Trump derangement syndrome has been so strong for so long.
- 11:23Speaker 1: It's been fueled.
- 11:24Speaker 2: By biased and deceptive media and self evidently it leads
- 11:28Speaker 2: to appalling behavior, So it pains me to say that
- 11:32Speaker 2: the ABC in this country is still wasting your money
- 11:37Speaker 2: producing more fuel for the Trump hatred fire. I missed
- 11:42Speaker 2: this on Monday night. I was too busy with my
- 11:43Speaker 2: docco but I want to make sure that you haven't
- 11:45Speaker 2: missed it. It's very disturbing and a terrible misuse of
- 11:49Speaker 2: tax dollars. The ABC has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars,
- 11:53Speaker 2: no doubt of your money and months of their time
- 11:56Speaker 2: on another four corners hit job on Donald Trump.
- 12:01Speaker 9: Now they don't get elected, it's going to be a
- 12:03Speaker 9: bloodbath for the country.
- 12:04Speaker 10: Real estate shark, reality TV stars for the United States president.
- 12:09Speaker 1: They're now convicted criminal, is an idiot, He's just an idiot.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Yeah, there they go again, the scary music, misleading people
- 12:24Speaker 2: with that blood bath line again that I've showed you
- 12:26Speaker 2: time and again is deliberately taken out of context and misrepresented.
- 12:31Speaker 2: Are they trying to suggest that electing Trump, who was
- 12:34Speaker 2: elected before and then defeated, don't forget they're trying to
- 12:38Speaker 2: suggest electing him will lead to chaos and the end
- 12:41Speaker 2: of democracy. But get this, after compiling this taxpayer funded
- 12:47Speaker 2: hit job and having it ready to go, when there
- 12:50Speaker 2: was that shocking assassination attempt on the weekend that wounded
- 12:53Speaker 2: Trump and killed a supporter. The ABC didn't have the
- 12:57Speaker 2: decency to delay their peace. In fact, they just dropped
- 13:00Speaker 2: in some vision of the crime, and they seem to
- 13:04Speaker 2: pinnot on the Trump factor, a classic case of victim blaming.
- 13:10Speaker 8: They do worry there's a real group of American citizens
- 13:13Speaker 8: who are willing to engage in violence for Donald Trump.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Take a look at what happened already.
- 13:21Speaker 10: There's being violence, but it's being aimed at Donald Trump.
- 13:28Speaker 2: Just extraordinary, isn't it your taxes at work? The ABC
- 13:32Speaker 2: frames this contest just the way the hateful left in
- 13:35Speaker 2: the US, just the way Joe Biden does, not as
- 13:38Speaker 2: a normal election, but as a battle for the very
- 13:41Speaker 2: future of democracy in the United States.
- 13:45Speaker 10: Almost four years after being cast out by voters, Donald
- 13:49Speaker 10: Trump is back and he has a plan to rebuild
- 13:52Speaker 10: America in his own image. To some he's a savior
- 13:57Speaker 10: and to others an autocratic Over the next two weeks,
- 14:01Speaker 10: Four Corners brings you a special series on the battle
- 14:05Speaker 10: for American Democracy.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Wouldn't be the same without all that scary music, would it.
- 14:16Speaker 1: This is just scandalous stuff.
- 14:18Speaker 2: The ABC can't influence US politics with this so called journalism,
- 14:23Speaker 2: and they're not informing Australians with it. In fact, they're
- 14:26Speaker 2: misinforming us. So what's the justification. They're just using your
- 14:31Speaker 2: money to indulge their own ideological grievances. It's biased and
- 14:36Speaker 2: it's reckless. Remember they did this before with a three
- 14:40Speaker 2: part series.
- 14:41Speaker 11: Tonight, we begin our special three part investigation into the
- 14:45Speaker 11: story of the century, the election of US President Donald
- 14:49Speaker 11: Trump and his ties to Russia. Tonight, Secrets, Spies and
- 14:53Speaker 11: Useful Idiots. In the second part of our special series
- 14:57Speaker 11: on Donald Trump and his Russia connections, we bring the
- 15:00Speaker 11: story of two key players central to the allegations of
- 15:03Speaker 11: collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.
- 15:07Speaker 1: The Kremlin's puppet.
- 15:08Speaker 11: Master now has America dancing to his discordant tune. He
- 15:16Speaker 11: couldn't have planned it better.
- 15:20Speaker 1: Just laughable, isn't it.
- 15:22Speaker 2: That million dollar exercise is still up on their website,
- 15:25Speaker 2: even though it's entirely wrong. They just trotted out the
- 15:28Speaker 2: same discredited, now disproven, wild leftist fantasy about Trump being
- 15:33Speaker 2: elected because he was a puppet of putin. No correction,
- 15:37Speaker 2: no apology, And now they're added again on our tax dollars.
- 15:43Speaker 2: As I keep saying, there is no one in charge
- 15:46Speaker 2: at the ABC because they know it's not your ABC.
- 15:50Speaker 1: They reckon it's their ABC.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Let's go to Queensland and the town of Stanthorpe now
- 15:58Speaker 2: and catch up with One Nation leader.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Pauline Hanson. Thanks for joining us, Pauline.
- 16:03Speaker 2: There's something that's been occurring to me over the past
- 16:06Speaker 2: few days when I've looked at this hatred and bile
- 16:08Speaker 2: and demonization that's been directed at Trump, and I just
- 16:12Speaker 2: see so many parallels to what you've experienced in politics.
- 16:15Speaker 6: Now.
- 16:15Speaker 2: I disagree with a lot of what Trump has said
- 16:18Speaker 2: and done, and you know, back in the day, I
- 16:19Speaker 2: used to disagree a lot with you and have done continuously.
- 16:23Speaker 2: But I just think that the exaggerated demonization that is
- 16:28Speaker 2: now becoming the wind underneath Donald Trump's wings is exactly
- 16:33Speaker 2: what you've experienced. Hasn't all that hatred actually put steel
- 16:37Speaker 2: in the spine of your supporters and won you votes
- 16:40Speaker 2: over the years?
- 16:43Speaker 12: Well, lot has Chris. I was demonized a lot by
- 16:46Speaker 12: the media. They took parts of what I said and
- 16:49Speaker 12: they made a clickbait and they actually put out their
- 16:52Speaker 12: own perception of what they want to tell the public,
- 16:56Speaker 12: which was not my whole story. So anyway I've people
- 17:01Speaker 12: may not know this. I had actually a death threats
- 17:03Speaker 12: against me, and I had Federal police protection for twenty
- 17:07Speaker 12: four to seven for eighteen months. And my daughter they
- 17:12Speaker 12: had to get her out of school, get her out
- 17:13Speaker 12: of ipswitch because there was a threat against her as
- 17:16Speaker 12: well at one stage when she was only what fifteen
- 17:18Speaker 12: years of age. Even my court trial, that was all political.
- 17:22Speaker 12: Peter Beatty changed the legislation prior to my court case,
- 17:26Speaker 12: which was a fine or a six month jail term.
- 17:29Speaker 12: He made the sentence seven years retrospective. That's what Labour did.
- 17:33Speaker 12: So it was I've copped so much thrown at me
- 17:36Speaker 12: and the perception that people have, you know. And it
- 17:39Speaker 12: started when they said that I wouldn't represent the Aboriginal
- 17:41Speaker 12: people and I never said it at all. It was
- 17:44Speaker 12: never the case. Yet the Australian printed it, it went
- 17:47Speaker 12: through the court system, was found that's not to be
- 17:50Speaker 12: the case when they listened to the full context of
- 17:52Speaker 12: the tape recording. And yet it's never been retracted enough,
- 17:56Speaker 12: you know, a little piece in the back of the newspaper.
- 17:58Speaker 12: But still that what you did with the Australian Right.
- 18:02Speaker 12: They still put out an editor stood out that I
- 18:05Speaker 12: said I wouldn't represent the Abiginal people. So I have
- 18:08Speaker 12: to wear this all the time. The perception that people
- 18:10Speaker 12: have about me and my policies is not the truth.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Yeah, well, those out examples and reminders you've given us.
- 18:16Speaker 2: It just confirms to me that you must see the
- 18:19Speaker 2: political and personal experience of Donald Trump, and you must
- 18:23Speaker 2: empathize with that very personally, but also politically. You must
- 18:26Speaker 2: see that his opponents are making some obvious mistakes.
- 18:34Speaker 12: What happened was that at my period of time, the
- 18:36Speaker 12: first couple of years I was in Parliament, and I
- 18:39Speaker 12: actually traveled the country for nine months of the year.
- 18:42Speaker 12: I traveled length and breadth of this nation. I spoke
- 18:46Speaker 12: to the people. They knew what came from my lips.
- 18:48Speaker 12: I didn't rely on the media. That's why to this
- 18:51Speaker 12: day people still are there supporting me. And that's exactly
- 18:54Speaker 12: what Trump's doing. He's getting out connecting with the people.
- 18:57Speaker 12: They're hearing from him because people don't trust the media anymore.
- 19:01Speaker 12: I'm sick of the biased media. I'm sick and tired
- 19:05Speaker 12: of these ones with their own agenda, the media that
- 19:08Speaker 12: are lazy these days, terribly lazy. They just report something
- 19:12Speaker 12: else that someone else has put out, don't do their research,
- 19:15Speaker 12: don't put the work and effort into it.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Well. To a large degree, I agree with you. That's
- 19:19Speaker 1: why I love this show.
- 19:20Speaker 2: I love just talking to people and hearing directly what
- 19:22Speaker 2: they've got to say. And I love hearing from people
- 19:24Speaker 2: I disagree with. I wish more people from the left
- 19:27Speaker 2: would come on and share their views, but they don't
- 19:29Speaker 2: like the debate. Just before I move on though. The
- 19:32Speaker 2: other similarity with Trump, when you look at the policy
- 19:34Speaker 2: focus at this Republican convention, it is on immigration. Immigration
- 19:39Speaker 2: is such a palpable issue in the US that would
- 19:42Speaker 2: not surprise you one bit, given, of course, how important
- 19:45Speaker 2: it is in this country too.
- 19:49Speaker 12: Most definitely, and immigration is the whole thing affects people
- 19:53Speaker 12: stand a living way of life. I've just been through
- 19:56Speaker 12: stand for Thorpe and spoke to some of the business
- 19:59Speaker 12: people there. General, the homeless here is horrendous to a
- 20:02Speaker 12: lot of people there. A house is three hundred and
- 20:05Speaker 12: fifty to four hundred dollars a week for rental accommodation.
- 20:08Speaker 12: They can't build any new houses here because guess what,
- 20:11Speaker 12: the council hasn't got isn't releasing land because they can't
- 20:15Speaker 12: pump the water, so the pumping facilities here are actually
- 20:20Speaker 12: beyond use. So they can't increase the housing here. Yet
- 20:23Speaker 12: they keep bringing more and more migrants into the country.
- 20:26Speaker 12: They can't move to country towns because they don't have
- 20:28Speaker 12: the infrastructure. Stanthorpe was in drought there and I came
- 20:31Speaker 12: up here that time to help them cut water up
- 20:34Speaker 12: here to give them support. They've done nothing to look
- 20:37Speaker 12: out the infrastructure of putting in security and water security
- 20:41Speaker 12: for these country towns. Yet the immigration they're bringing in
- 20:45Speaker 12: is destroying it and we can't keep up with it.
- 20:48Speaker 12: Melbourne Easy said he'd pull back on immigration, which they
- 20:51Speaker 12: haven't done. That's the problem it is that needs to
- 20:54Speaker 12: be pulled right back until we actually put in the infrastructure.
- 20:57Speaker 2: They recognize the problem, they promised to pull it back.
- 21:00Speaker 2: They accuse anyone of talking about of being racist or xenophobic,
- 21:04Speaker 2: yet they have not followed through. We'll keep on the case. Pauline,
- 21:07Speaker 2: thanks for joining us. Pauline Hanson there live from Queensland.
- 21:11Speaker 2: I want to go to Bali now because that's where
- 21:12Speaker 2: we're going to find the former Labor Front bencher Michael
- 21:15Speaker 2: Danby interrupting his holidays there.
- 21:17Speaker 1: Michael, were good to speak to you.
- 21:20Speaker 2: I'm really keen to get your take on this CFMEMEU
- 21:24Speaker 2: controversy scandal. Now, of course, any individuals in that union
- 21:27Speaker 2: who are facing allegations, they're responsible for their own actions
- 21:31Speaker 2: and we'll let the processes play out. But the financial
- 21:35Speaker 2: donations to the ALP and the factional power of the
- 21:38Speaker 2: CFME you within the ALP, it's political power within the
- 21:42Speaker 2: Labor Party.
- 21:43Speaker 1: I mean that the federal government is in a bind here.
- 21:45Speaker 2: They can't just say that they've got nothing to do
- 21:48Speaker 2: with this mob, can they well?
- 21:51Speaker 5: Elbow got rid of them for different reasons in twenty nineteen.
- 21:56Speaker 5: But before I do that, Chris, I want to commend
- 21:58Speaker 5: you on your folks us on the ABC's Mad program
- 22:02Speaker 5: on Trump. Look, Australians learn more about what's going on
- 22:06Speaker 5: with this potentially new administration from you, from Joe Hockey
- 22:11Speaker 5: who's over there covering the convention, and from Aaron Mullin,
- 22:15Speaker 5: who's been interviewing Trump's future national security advisors. Then the
- 22:21Speaker 5: infantile drivel being pumped out by four Corners.
- 22:24Speaker 2: No, you're right, it's embarrassing and it's a ways of
- 22:27Speaker 2: our good tax dollars.
- 22:28Speaker 1: But let's get back to one of the sessions.
- 22:29Speaker 5: There's so much stuff of interest to Australians to learn
- 22:33Speaker 5: and where we're getting none of it. We're just getting
- 22:36Speaker 5: the usual hacknet.
- 22:38Speaker 2: Let's talk ABC another time. But the CFMU. How much
- 22:41Speaker 2: of a problem is it for your own colleagues in
- 22:44Speaker 2: the federal labor government.
- 22:46Speaker 5: Well, just thinker Ellen. It's a very big problem for
- 22:48Speaker 5: her because she was Infrastructure Minister for all those years
- 22:52Speaker 5: under Dan Andrews. You can't claim that she didn't know
- 22:58Speaker 5: what the CFMU was about doing, given the fact that
- 23:01Speaker 5: they constituted the majority of the workforce for the projects
- 23:04Speaker 5: that she was pushing. It's a consistent pattern, isn't it, Chris.
- 23:10Speaker 5: There's no proper royal commission federally or state into COVID.
- 23:16Speaker 5: There's no judicial inquiry into anti Semitism on the Australian campuses,
- 23:23Speaker 5: and now we're not going to have a royal commission
- 23:26Speaker 5: into the CFMU. It's not good enough for the CFM.
- 23:30Speaker 5: You'd have an internal investigation. That's just them trying to
- 23:33Speaker 5: get ahead of the curve. It's not good enough to
- 23:35Speaker 5: just cause the money from this potentially crooked organization. They'll
- 23:42Speaker 5: never get the four million dollars that they've received donated
- 23:46Speaker 5: to charity, as you suggested. But it's you know, we're
- 23:54Speaker 5: going to have half measures. They'll try and get away
- 23:56Speaker 5: with it, the socialist left center Allen will try and
- 24:01Speaker 5: escape through. It seems to have been a terrible mistake
- 24:05Speaker 5: to have abolished those two oversight organizations into the building
- 24:09Speaker 5: construction area, which has always been a problem. It should
- 24:13Speaker 5: do what Bob Hawk did to the CFMU used predecessor,
- 24:17Speaker 5: the blf D register.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Get rid of them all together exactly.
- 24:21Speaker 2: And what about their influence within the party now, especially
- 24:25Speaker 2: through the socialist left faction.
- 24:27Speaker 1: How significant is that?
- 24:29Speaker 5: Well, the Labor Party of Victoria is unrecognizable, almost doesn't
- 24:32Speaker 5: exist since the membership were virtually abolished. The left wing
- 24:38Speaker 5: unions are the absolutely dominant influence and all of the
- 24:43Speaker 5: leading Victorian ministers, the brilliant Andrew Giles in Canberra and co.
- 24:49Speaker 5: Are all the progeny of not just this union, but
- 24:54Speaker 5: this whole formation that's been set up that benefits this group.
- 25:00Speaker 5: It's very far from the days of Kim Beasley, Bob Hawk,
- 25:04Speaker 5: even Paul Keating, and you know, Shorten and Gillard were
- 25:08Speaker 5: a lot better than them. Julia was in the left,
- 25:10Speaker 5: but she was a very sensible person and I don't
- 25:13Speaker 5: think she would have let allegedly crooked behavior take place
- 25:17Speaker 5: and the Labor Party to receive money from it.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Hell of a worry, A lot more to unfold, as
- 25:22Speaker 2: you say, our royal commissions would seem to be in order.
- 25:24Speaker 2: Thanks for joining us, Michael, I appreciate it. Michael Danby
- 25:27Speaker 2: there live from Balley. It's just so wonderful how we
- 25:30Speaker 2: can catch up with people anywhere anytime these days. It's
- 25:32Speaker 2: got to go to a break. On the other side
- 25:34Speaker 2: of that, we're going to look at the day two of.
- 25:36Speaker 1: That National Republican Convention. It's wrapped up.
- 25:39Speaker 2: I've got all the latest from Annalise Nilsen in Milwaukee.
- 25:47Speaker 2: It's been a big second day in Milwaukee at the
- 25:49Speaker 2: Republican National Convention.
- 25:51Speaker 1: Many of you would have been watching highlights during the day.
- 25:53Speaker 2: A lot of heavyweights endorsed Donald Trump, who again made
- 25:56Speaker 2: a grand entrance but didn't speak.
- 25:59Speaker 1: One man who did speak is the.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Majority House leader Steve Scalici, who was nearly killed by
- 26:05Speaker 2: a left wing extremist at a charity baseball game in
- 26:08Speaker 2: twenty seventeen.
- 26:11Speaker 13: Many of you know I was the survivor of a
- 26:14Speaker 13: politically motivated shooting in twenty seventeen. Not many know that
- 26:20Speaker 13: while I was fighting for my life, Donald Trump was
- 26:24Speaker 13: one of the first to come console my family at
- 26:27Speaker 13: the hospital.
- 26:34Speaker 2: As you now, as you know, our own analyse Nilsen
- 26:37Speaker 2: is in Milwaukee, and I asked you to give us
- 26:39Speaker 2: a sense of day two.
- 26:41Speaker 6: Look, it was an absolute rapturous applause when he came
- 26:45Speaker 6: in again, But it was slightly different vibe in the
- 26:47Speaker 6: room from when he was first seen after that assassination
- 26:50Speaker 6: at Tamps, Pennsylvania, because people were quite emotional, and I
- 26:54Speaker 6: didn't even realize just how emotional Donald Trump was until
- 26:57Speaker 6: I watched it back and saw that he was tearing
- 27:00Speaker 6: up in that vision. And so today had more of
- 27:02Speaker 6: a celebratory atmosphere. And for all our coverage, for all
- 27:06Speaker 6: us saying this, it's not that we're fan going or
- 27:09Speaker 6: we're part of the rah ra of the event. It's
- 27:11Speaker 6: the fact that there was any chance this wouldn't be
- 27:14Speaker 6: like that, and there's any chance that the Democrat convection
- 27:16Speaker 6: is going to be bitterly divided that people are going
- 27:19Speaker 6: to be depressed in the room. So that is the
- 27:21Speaker 6: genuine sense we're getting here, is that people feel like
- 27:23Speaker 6: they're excited. Everything's come together after years of turmoil, most
- 27:27Speaker 6: of the legal cases against Donald Trump have fallen by
- 27:29Speaker 6: the wayside, that they now are looking at potentially winning,
- 27:34Speaker 6: and everyone likes a winner, especially in America. So the
- 27:36Speaker 6: idea here that everyone feels like that they're close to
- 27:39Speaker 6: getting the White House back. There is a real mood
- 27:41Speaker 6: of celebration.
- 27:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's great an analysis. I saw your analysis
- 27:46Speaker 2: yesterday too, and a lease about the way that the
- 27:48Speaker 2: assassination of Temper has helped to unify the Republican Party.
- 27:52Speaker 2: There's no doubt there are a lot of Trump skeptics.
- 27:55Speaker 1: In the Republican Party.
- 27:56Speaker 2: A lot of them have fallen by the wayside or
- 27:59Speaker 2: been converted. And that's really been a central theme of
- 28:02Speaker 2: what we've seen at the.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Convention today, hasn't it.
- 28:04Speaker 2: The former primary Republican primary opponents of Donald Trump lining
- 28:09Speaker 2: up to endorse him, and none more important, of course
- 28:13Speaker 2: than Nicky Haley.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Have a look at this.
- 28:16Speaker 14: Donald Trump has my strong endorsement period. I'm here tonight
- 28:30Speaker 14: because we have a country to save, and a unified
- 28:35Speaker 14: Republican Party is essential for saving her.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Yeah, and Alas, Nicky Haley might not have been the
- 28:48Speaker 2: most popular speaker at the convention, but I thought her
- 28:51Speaker 2: message was probably very important for people watching at home,
- 28:55Speaker 2: for swinging voters, if you like, because she said, you
- 28:59Speaker 2: don't have to agree with Donald Trump on everything to
- 29:02Speaker 2: support him in this race.
- 29:07Speaker 6: Look, that's exactly right. And the thing is that that
- 29:09Speaker 6: she spent her campaign saying it's time for change, that
- 29:12Speaker 6: chaos follows Trump wherever he goes, and we need something fresh.
- 29:16Speaker 6: But now we have the hardcore political calculation of you
- 29:18Speaker 6: have two choices or three if you want to vote
- 29:21Speaker 6: for RFK Junior, which both sides are trying to talk
- 29:23Speaker 6: down as an option. So when she was making this speech,
- 29:26Speaker 6: it was very much the idea that you can have
- 29:28Speaker 6: criticized Donald Trump, you don't have to like the guy,
- 29:31Speaker 6: you don't have to feel guilty for voting for him.
- 29:34Speaker 6: And when she's talking to those voters that Donald Trump
- 29:38Speaker 6: might have alienated in the past, especially some of the
- 29:41Speaker 6: criticism I hear from people who like Donald Trump and
- 29:44Speaker 6: vote for him, as they say, I hate the way
- 29:45Speaker 6: he talks on Twitter, I where she would just shut
- 29:48Speaker 6: his mouth a bit more and get on with the job,
- 29:50Speaker 6: because they like his policies and they like what he
- 29:53Speaker 6: actually did. So she's talking to all of those voters.
- 29:56Speaker 6: And obviously Donald Trump realizes there's a value in that too,
- 30:00Speaker 6: because he welcomed her on the stage. She just easily
- 30:03Speaker 6: could have never extended that invitation. And I think this
- 30:06Speaker 6: again shows that we're dealing with a different Donald Trump
- 30:09Speaker 6: than we had the first time around. This is politician Trump.
- 30:13Speaker 6: This is the Trump who knew that he was better
- 30:14Speaker 6: off not saying anything in the debate with Joe Biden
- 30:18Speaker 6: and letting that play out rather than jumping in and
- 30:20Speaker 6: steamrolling him and making it all about Donald That's a
- 30:24Speaker 6: very different guy than we saw go down the Golden
- 30:28Speaker 6: escalator before the twenty sixteen election.
- 30:31Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a sense that he senses the electorate is
- 30:35Speaker 2: coming to him and he needs to welcome voters rather
- 30:37Speaker 2: than to agitate and polarize to drive people to him.
- 30:41Speaker 1: It's fascinating to watch.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Another important speaker today was another former Republican primary candidate,
- 30:47Speaker 2: as Is vivek Ramaswami.
- 30:49Speaker 1: His speech really.
- 30:50Speaker 2: Focused on some of those focus on some of those
- 30:52Speaker 2: key policy areas the Republicans are really driving home, like
- 30:56Speaker 2: the war on identity politics, and also the wrong stand
- 31:00Speaker 2: on immigration.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Here's a bit of Ramaswami.
- 31:04Speaker 15: We believe in merit that you get ahead in this
- 31:07Speaker 15: country not on the color of your skin, but on
- 31:10Speaker 15: the content of your character and your contributions. It means
- 31:15Speaker 15: we believe in the rule of law. And I say
- 31:18Speaker 15: this as the kid of legal immigrants to this country.
- 31:22Speaker 15: That means your first act of entering this country cannot
- 31:25Speaker 15: break the law.
- 31:26Speaker 10: That is why we.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Will seal the southern border on day one.
- 31:31Speaker 2: Vic Ramaswami there and Elise give us your sins and
- 31:35Speaker 2: Elise of the way this convention is trying to define
- 31:38Speaker 2: these major policy battles in the election campaign.
- 31:45Speaker 6: Well, they're focusing on the things that voters are concerned about.
- 31:48Speaker 6: But the reality is Donald Trump will do what Donald
- 31:50Speaker 6: Trump wants to do. There's been a lot of people
- 31:53Speaker 6: trying to influence the policy of the potential Trump administration
- 31:56Speaker 6: to take credit. I mean, if you look at this
- 31:58Speaker 6: Project twenty twenty five, which was put together by the
- 32:01Speaker 6: Heritage Foundation, a very influential right wing think tank in Washington, DC,
- 32:06Speaker 6: it's just a bit ambitious to say I'm going to
- 32:08Speaker 6: do the blueprint and show you what I'm going to
- 32:11Speaker 6: do in a Trump administration. When it's up to Trump,
- 32:13Speaker 6: it's a bit like me redoing our TV lineup and
- 32:17Speaker 6: telling the CEO I'm the star now and we're going
- 32:19Speaker 6: to do it this way, like that's nice that the
- 32:22Speaker 6: MUSC will make me call. So it's become a real
- 32:24Speaker 6: focal point for people criticizing the potential Trump administration or
- 32:28Speaker 6: voting for Trump again. They're saying that this Project twenty
- 32:31Speaker 6: twenty five is going to be a disaster and something
- 32:32Speaker 6: to be terrified of. But Trump's already dropped it, saying
- 32:35Speaker 6: I have nothing to do with it in a truth
- 32:37Speaker 6: social post, and I do think that's true. I think
- 32:39Speaker 6: he'll do whatever he likes. So yeah, a lot of
- 32:42Speaker 6: what is being put together in this convention.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Yeah, this Project twenty twenty five is essentially like think
- 32:49Speaker 2: tanks putting up a wish list. It's like saying in
- 32:52Speaker 2: Australia that the Labor Party is going to do everything.
- 32:54Speaker 2: The Australia Institute says it is a bit.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Of a furfee.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Although those policies I've got to be looked at just
- 33:01Speaker 2: let's go to the incumbent president. Joe Biden has been
- 33:04Speaker 2: trying to do some media, trying to do some rallies,
- 33:07Speaker 2: trying to recover to some degree. But if people are
- 33:10Speaker 2: expecting the Democrats to pull back, to realize that they're
- 33:14Speaker 2: the toxicity of their attacks on Donald Trump, they're demonizing
- 33:18Speaker 2: of Donald Trump isn't working.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Well, it doesn't seem that he's in any mood to
- 33:22Speaker 1: pull back.
- 33:23Speaker 16: Is Joe Biden just because you must lower the temperature
- 33:28Speaker 16: our politics is really to violence. It doesn't mean we
- 33:30Speaker 16: should stop telling the truth.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Who you are, what you've done, what you'll do, that's
- 33:39Speaker 1: fair game. Yeah, well, decoding that analysis.
- 33:42Speaker 2: He says they're going to keep demonizing, attacking Donald Trump.
- 33:46Speaker 2: But they've done it for four years, eight years. Really,
- 33:49Speaker 2: I suppose it's too late for them to change tack.
- 33:55Speaker 6: Well, I mean, it worked, it worked in twenty twenty.
- 33:57Speaker 6: But the problem is the calculations just very different. And
- 33:59Speaker 6: when Joe Biden is stick digging his heels in, it's
- 34:03Speaker 6: just making it that much harder for everyone else around him,
- 34:05Speaker 6: And the closer they get to the DNC, the Democrat
- 34:08Speaker 6: National Convention, just the less they can do. So this
- 34:11Speaker 6: is really coming down to the wire for any opportunity,
- 34:15Speaker 6: and they're obviously enjoying the fact that the media spotlight's
- 34:18Speaker 6: gone off them while there's been this complete shift of focus.
- 34:23Speaker 6: Of course, because the attempted assassination of Donald Trump and
- 34:26Speaker 6: then the RNC was always going to be a bit
- 34:28Speaker 6: of a breather for them, But the reality is it's
- 34:30Speaker 6: going to buy it eventually. US is a non compulsory
- 34:33Speaker 6: voting system, and people don't tend to get out to
- 34:37Speaker 6: vote if they're unenthusiastic. It's a killer. They tend to
- 34:39Speaker 6: get out if they're excited for a candidate, or they're
- 34:41Speaker 6: scared of something, or they're a very specific issue voter.
- 34:46Speaker 6: But to have kind of an uninspiring candidate, and they're
- 34:50Speaker 6: just going to keep playing all of Joe Biden's gaffes
- 34:52Speaker 6: every time he goes out. Now it's all we do
- 34:54Speaker 6: is watch for what he's going to mess up next.
- 34:56Speaker 6: And so that's I mean, don't forget there's another The
- 35:00Speaker 6: books too were coming on the debate between doctor Trump
- 35:03Speaker 6: and Joe Biden. It's going to be a nightmare for them.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Yeah, that's not till September. There might be a new
- 35:08Speaker 2: candidate for the Democrats. By then we will see. Thanks
- 35:11Speaker 2: so much for joining us down at least really appreciated.
- 35:13Speaker 2: Lots more to come in the next couple of days.
- 35:18Speaker 6: Thanks Chris.
- 35:20Speaker 1: She is a star.
- 35:21Speaker 2: I'll back her in when she goes to the CEO
- 35:23Speaker 2: with that plan. Great stuff from Alalie Nilsen there in
- 35:26Speaker 2: the US. Now after the breaking, on to catch up
- 35:28Speaker 2: with Zoey McKenzie, the Liberal MP from Victoria, We're going
- 35:30Speaker 2: to talk about the Energy and Climate Minister Chris Bowen,
- 35:33Speaker 2: you know, the known nukes guy.
- 35:35Speaker 1: He's been at it again. So the Climate and.
- 35:42Speaker 2: Energy Minister Chris Bowen spoke in Canberra today and as usual,
- 35:45Speaker 2: he talked a lot of gibberish. Have a look at
- 35:48Speaker 2: him sharing these statistics.
- 35:51Speaker 17: The emission's reductions from closing an average cool fire power
- 35:53Speaker 17: plant in twenty twenty five rather than twenty forty nine
- 35:57Speaker 17: is the annual emissions of over fifty million cars.
- 36:02Speaker 1: So what this is meaningless? Tosh?
- 36:05Speaker 2: Why doesn't he share some meaningful statistics, like how global
- 36:09Speaker 2: emissions are continuing to rise, like Australia's one percent share
- 36:14Speaker 2: of those global emissions is already falling, like China has
- 36:18Speaker 2: increased its emissions in the past year by more than
- 36:22Speaker 2: the total emissions from Australia. You know, numbers that show
- 36:26Speaker 2: that what we do is inconsequential. Why does he refuse
- 36:31Speaker 2: to admit that his haste is reckless and illogical given
- 36:36Speaker 2: what we're doing is having zero net zero impact on
- 36:41Speaker 2: the climate. Instead we get this alarmist nonsense.
- 36:47Speaker 17: Every year, more of us are sweltering through increasingly deadly
- 36:50Speaker 17: heat waves, and some of us are too regularly watching
- 36:55Speaker 17: the floodwaters creep higher as others wait for the reins
- 37:00Speaker 17: more frequent, enduring droughts.
- 37:03Speaker 2: This is just not true. We are not having more
- 37:08Speaker 2: droughts or worse drouts. The science and the record does
- 37:11Speaker 2: not support that we're not having worse floods either. He
- 37:15Speaker 2: shouldn't make this stuff up, and if he insists on
- 37:18Speaker 2: making it up and trying to scare everyone, perhaps he
- 37:21Speaker 2: needs to first work out whether we're getting wetter or
- 37:25Speaker 2: we're getting drier, because we can't be doing both. Mate,
- 37:29Speaker 2: Let me bring in Victorian Liberal MP Zoey Mackenzie. Zoey,
- 37:32Speaker 2: thanks for joining me. It just drives me to distraction
- 37:35Speaker 2: watching the nonsense from this bloke and to get to
- 37:38Speaker 2: the real policy issue here. Everybody wants reliable power without emissions,
- 37:43Speaker 2: So why won't Chris Bowen even consider the one known reliable,
- 37:49Speaker 2: dispatchable base load power form power source that does not
- 37:54Speaker 2: have emissions in nuclear.
- 37:57Speaker 18: It's extraordinary, isn't it. Today he's spent too much an
- 38:00Speaker 18: hour again talking about the coalition's plan for cheap, consistent
- 38:05Speaker 18: and clean energy, attacking it, insisting that a premature retiring
- 38:10Speaker 18: of twenty seven baseload stations is absolutely compulsory in the
- 38:13Speaker 18: hope that the sun will keep shining and the wind
- 38:15Speaker 18: will keep on blowing. Will let me tell you, neither
- 38:17Speaker 18: is happening here in Victoria. For the last three weeks.
- 38:19Speaker 18: It is freezing. People are relying on their gas appliances
- 38:23Speaker 18: that they know the state government will try and take
- 38:24Speaker 18: out of their hands in years to come. So again,
- 38:27Speaker 18: it was just a bunch of bubble and squeak from
- 38:30Speaker 18: Chris Bowen as we're.
- 38:31Speaker 1: So it's incredible. Now, yeah, that's no.
- 38:33Speaker 18: Real honesty about where we're going.
- 38:35Speaker 2: Absolutely, as I pointed out, the claims he's making about
- 38:38Speaker 2: this climate emergency are just wrong. And I'd love him
- 38:42Speaker 2: to come on any time and talk about it. But
- 38:44Speaker 2: let's have a look at what he had to say
- 38:45Speaker 2: about the coalition's.
- 38:46Speaker 17: Policy Tradings will have a choice between paying for Peter
- 38:51Speaker 17: Dutton's uncosted, unexplained and undeliverable nuclear actors, or continuing with
- 38:56Speaker 17: the Albanesi governments and the experts plan to get on
- 39:00Speaker 17: with the job of delivering more reliable, cheap renewables bringing
- 39:05Speaker 17: down emissions at the same time.
- 39:08Speaker 2: Now, Zarah, he's got really two big problems with that argument.
- 39:12Speaker 2: First is he has to convince us that what he's
- 39:14Speaker 2: doing at the moment is working. We've got unreliable power
- 39:18Speaker 2: and more expensive than it's ever been.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Where's the evidence that his plan can work?
- 39:24Speaker 6: So that's an excellent point.
- 39:25Speaker 18: And to give you two examples, just in my electorate alone, Chris,
- 39:28Speaker 18: we're meant to have the renewable energy terminal built by
- 39:32Speaker 18: the state government in the Port of Hastings.
- 39:34Speaker 6: It's where they're going to erect.
- 39:36Speaker 18: I think it's eighty story high wind turbines dominating the
- 39:40Speaker 18: western Port Bay and the Unesco biasphere, dredging up all
- 39:45Speaker 18: the kind of marshland around there to send these giant
- 39:48Speaker 18: things out to sea. Except that Tanya Plipasik has canceled it.
- 39:53Speaker 18: She canned the idea. So left hand isn't telling other
- 39:55Speaker 18: left hand what's happening. But as a result of which
- 39:58Speaker 18: that wind farm out from the seas from gibbs Land
- 40:01Speaker 18: isn't getting built any time soon.
- 40:04Speaker 6: There's another example.
- 40:05Speaker 18: We have plans for solar farms on my electorate, but
- 40:07Speaker 18: we can't get permission from either the residents or the
- 40:10Speaker 18: energy companies to build it, so instead we rely on
- 40:13Speaker 18: eight diesel generators over summer.
- 40:16Speaker 6: To power the potentula.
- 40:18Speaker 18: So what I'm trying to say is even at the
- 40:19Speaker 18: micro level, it's just fantasy.
- 40:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I aren't coming to foinition.
- 40:25Speaker 6: They will not get there.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Everyone around the country can see that, I think increasingly.
- 40:28Speaker 2: The other problem with his argument, of course he's sort
- 40:31Speaker 2: of demonizing nuclear energy. Well, he has to explain how
- 40:34Speaker 2: nuclear energy can't work in Australia, that it's affordable and
- 40:37Speaker 2: reliable and being expanded threefold in twenty of the best
- 40:40Speaker 2: economies in the world.
- 40:43Speaker 18: Exactly right, thirty two countries have it, fifty are looking
- 40:45Speaker 18: at it. We can be the fifty first. Most of
- 40:48Speaker 18: Western Europe is now powered on nuclear energy. France keeps
- 40:52Speaker 18: itself in economic buoyancy because it is the nuclear power
- 40:56Speaker 18: base of.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Wes exactly looking after its mates, including German. Can you
- 41:00Speaker 1: believe how.
- 41:01Speaker 2: The worm has turned the Germans relying on France for
- 41:03Speaker 2: some clean power.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Thanks for joining us, Zoey, appreciate it, Zoey McKenzie there
- 41:07Speaker 1: in Victoria. You got to move quickly to a break.
- 41:10Speaker 2: On the other side of that Wednesday wrangle with Liz
- 41:12Speaker 2: and Justin, we'll talk about Kevin rud changing his tune
- 41:15Speaker 2: on Donald Trump, plus a surprising reason that more Australians
- 41:19Speaker 2: are choosing gas. Let's get into some wrangling with Late
- 41:30Speaker 2: I call you the Late Show, Debate show, the Late Debate,
- 41:37Speaker 2: but Tom old enough to have watched The Late Show
- 41:39Speaker 2: on the A b.
- 41:40Speaker 1: C Book Place many years ago. This story joining.
- 41:43Speaker 2: Us and Justin Smith back from his stinters and ABC
- 41:47Speaker 2: leftist polymister, good.
- 41:48Speaker 1: To good to join us, mate, good to have you,
- 41:50Speaker 1: Good to have you back. Let's start.
- 41:54Speaker 2: Let's start off with your time at the ABC. Was
- 41:56Speaker 2: it fun?
- 41:58Speaker 19: Oh yeah, it was fantastic talk radio nothing like it
- 42:02Speaker 19: loved it had a ball again, mate, I.
- 42:04Speaker 2: Do love talk radio, but the ABC has never asked
- 42:07Speaker 2: me to fill in the shift there, and it's at
- 42:11Speaker 2: least yours finished up justin a lot better than Antoinette latoofs.
- 42:15Speaker 2: But we'll see how that one plays out.
- 42:17Speaker 19: I don't mention the war, mate, don't mention.
- 42:19Speaker 2: The war before we go to the US gas. We've
- 42:23Speaker 2: got local governments and state governments and even some federal
- 42:26Speaker 2: politicians want everybody to get off gas. But reports now
- 42:29Speaker 2: saying more and more homeowners want gas, obviously because it's
- 42:33Speaker 2: great for heating your home, but also with power supply worries,
- 42:38Speaker 2: electricity worries, people are thinking, well, if there's a blackout,
- 42:40Speaker 2: at least I can still cook my dinner, justin.
- 42:43Speaker 1: Does it surprise you or not?
- 42:46Speaker 19: Now, it doesn't surprise me that they're talking about it.
- 42:48Speaker 19: But I've got to admit I'm with you a lot
- 42:50Speaker 19: about this. They'll be prying gas out of my cold
- 42:54Speaker 19: dead hand. I've got to say, I, buddy, love it.
- 42:56Speaker 19: I love gas in the kitchen, and the thought of
- 42:59Speaker 19: it being replaced with something else just sends shivers down
- 43:02Speaker 19: my spine. But I don't know what I'm going to do.
- 43:05Speaker 19: I'm going to have to give it up at some point.
- 43:06Speaker 10: I know, Yes, hold on, I'll hold on I'll hold on.
- 43:13Speaker 20: If you do it, I'll be right next to you
- 43:16Speaker 20: in the trenches. What this says, though the facts that
- 43:19Speaker 20: these gas companies are saying, we've gotten unprecedented amount of demand,
- 43:22Speaker 20: people saying we want gas in our homes. What this
- 43:25Speaker 20: says to us is, despite all the lobby groups, despite
- 43:29Speaker 20: all the fear mongering, despite government being like climate communism
- 43:34Speaker 20: or bust, that everyday person is like stuff, here is
- 43:38Speaker 20: I want gas in my home. And lastly, this also
- 43:41Speaker 20: goes to show why government has now resorted to just
- 43:46Speaker 20: mandating no gas, like we've seen in Victoria. If you're
- 43:49Speaker 20: building a new home, if you're building a new block
- 43:53Speaker 20: of apartments, no gas.
- 43:55Speaker 1: Terrible it is. This is why I came into this.
- 43:58Speaker 1: What counsel is doing don't remind.
- 43:59Speaker 20: Me of government who can't bring the people with them.
- 44:02Speaker 20: Then they just go what we're forcing you.
- 44:05Speaker 2: Well, people know what works, and gas fires work. And
- 44:09Speaker 2: we spent untold money on big renovations at our place.
- 44:13Speaker 1: The best thing was the gas fire.
- 44:15Speaker 2: I'll be there tomorrow night watching the footy glass of
- 44:17Speaker 2: red gas fire. Wait and yeah, this is outrageous that
- 44:22Speaker 2: they try and legislate away from us.
- 44:24Speaker 1: Hey, just quickly. Another bit of madness in the Victoria
- 44:26Speaker 1: justin where the.
- 44:28Speaker 2: Cancer councils wanting to ban junk food ads on your
- 44:31Speaker 2: public transport. I mean, people can make up their own minds,
- 44:34Speaker 2: can't they about what they're going to eat?
- 44:38Speaker 1: Oh made?
- 44:38Speaker 19: Look, I hate the idea of banning stuff too, but
- 44:41Speaker 19: I've got to say obesity and poor nutrition is at
- 44:45Speaker 19: the base of some really awful problems in Australia. Can
- 44:49Speaker 19: we not look to America and see where they've been
- 44:52Speaker 19: going wrong? And I'm not trying to swing off the
- 44:54Speaker 19: Americans here, but in the last few decades they have
- 44:56Speaker 19: really gotten down a bad track. Do we want to
- 44:59Speaker 19: go down and we heading down that direction? Do we
- 45:01Speaker 19: go about something? But I'd love to see your jung
- 45:04Speaker 19: food app. I would like to lose three kilograms. Do
- 45:07Speaker 19: you think the government can do that for me?
- 45:09Speaker 2: Or do you think at some stage we actually run
- 45:10Speaker 2: our own lives?
- 45:12Speaker 1: Unbelievable.
- 45:13Speaker 19: Let me go quickly to the US. We're going to
- 45:14Speaker 19: talk about targeting kids. You're not a kid, Chris. I
- 45:17Speaker 19: had a kid, mate. We're talking about targeting I have kids, mate, And.
- 45:20Speaker 1: I know what you do when you raise kids.
- 45:23Speaker 2: You raise them to make the right decisions at a
- 45:25Speaker 2: certain point of their life.
- 45:26Speaker 1: They do make their own decision.
- 45:27Speaker 20: You're asking the government to be the parents.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Raise my kids. Cigarette adds. There, let's have cigarette adds,
- 45:33Speaker 1: so we'll get the government tell what they should be.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Exactly unbelievable. Let's go to the US, where things are
- 45:39Speaker 1: a lot more sensible.
- 45:41Speaker 2: Despite all the demonization and hatred in US politics, Joe
- 45:45Speaker 2: Biden doesn't sound like he's going to pull back on
- 45:47Speaker 2: his attacks against Donald Trump.
- 45:50Speaker 1: Have a listen, just.
- 45:52Speaker 16: Because you must lower the temperature, our politics is really
- 45:55Speaker 16: to violence. It doesn't mean we should stop telling the truth.
- 46:00Speaker 16: You are, what you've done, what you'll do. That's fair, Haim.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Look, I reckon.
- 46:07Speaker 2: This is reckless list because what he's saying is really
- 46:09Speaker 2: the victim of most of the hatred in Donald Trump
- 46:12Speaker 2: should be the one to lower his temperature.
- 46:14Speaker 1: The rest of us will keep attacking him.
- 46:16Speaker 20: And what he's doing here is sticking with the DEM's
- 46:19Speaker 20: narrative of no, we have the upper.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Ground in the high moral ground.
- 46:23Speaker 20: The morality of this, yes, we're up on the high horse.
- 46:26Speaker 20: We have the high moral ground, and it feeds into
- 46:30Speaker 20: that very dangerous narrative of well whatever happens, is it
- 46:33Speaker 20: really undeserved, and that is something that simply cannot continue
- 46:39Speaker 20: along this trajectory. We've got months until the election. Heaven knows,
- 46:44Speaker 20: I doubt very much this is going to be the
- 46:46Speaker 20: first and only attempt to take Donald.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Well, the speculatufft.
- 46:52Speaker 20: And it's barely been what three days, that horrific incident,
- 46:57Speaker 20: and Trump's life was spared by less than a millimeter,
- 47:01Speaker 20: and yet he's not ramping it down at all.
- 47:04Speaker 2: It's incredible, justin Look, we all know about Trump's rhetoric
- 47:08Speaker 2: and what some of his supporters have done, but can
- 47:10Speaker 2: we have someone from the Democrat.
- 47:12Speaker 1: Side or for the broader left, at some stage.
- 47:14Speaker 2: Admit that their constant demonization of Trump, their constant suggestion
- 47:19Speaker 2: that the very future of America is at stake, is
- 47:22Speaker 2: amplifying the whole situation, and they need to pull back too.
- 47:28Speaker 19: While it's probably a good point, I don't think they
- 47:30Speaker 19: necessarily need to pull back.
- 47:32Speaker 1: I don't.
- 47:32Speaker 19: I don't think Trump should be above criticism, and I
- 47:35Speaker 19: must say that he is still alive. But hang on
- 47:42Speaker 19: a second. You want me to be standing here speaking
- 47:44Speaker 19: in front of for the Democrats, I don't think they
- 47:46Speaker 19: should be pulling back. What they should be doing is
- 47:48Speaker 19: putting up better candidates. They should have had somebody better
- 47:52Speaker 19: running against him when they put up Hillary. Somebody should
- 47:54Speaker 19: have hid somebody better even with Biden. Now, yeah, and
- 47:57Speaker 19: they should have somebody better, and they should go even
- 47:59Speaker 19: high on Trump right now, you know putting you know, look.
- 48:05Speaker 2: You don't have it.
- 48:06Speaker 1: It didn't.
- 48:07Speaker 20: It's rhetoric telling people, believing people, very honest people, that
- 48:12Speaker 20: this guy, Donald Trump is a threat to our democracy.
- 48:16Speaker 20: He is a very real threat.
- 48:17Speaker 1: Here's a threat to the democracy. He refused, he didn't
- 48:20Speaker 1: want to start last time.
- 48:22Speaker 3: He stirred people up and was a convicted between.
- 48:29Speaker 20: The dead people voting, between the ballot stuffers which were
- 48:33Speaker 20: caught live on air by.
- 48:34Speaker 1: No, you can't prove it.
- 48:39Speaker 2: Excuse me, excuse me. We're out of time now on
- 48:42Speaker 2: this issue. There we have the two ends.
- 48:44Speaker 1: Of this debate.
- 48:45Speaker 2: It'll keep going for a few more months yet, but
- 48:47Speaker 2: we can just finish off the show then with a
- 48:50Speaker 2: little bit of Donald Trump uniting us all in some
- 48:54Speaker 2: amusing moments. Yeah, they played more than a minute of
- 49:12Speaker 2: that had the Republican national conviction and justin Liz, love.
- 49:16Speaker 1: Him or hate him, you can laugh at the village
- 49:19Speaker 1: people video. Oh absolutely, and he loves it.
- 49:22Speaker 6: He loves it.
- 49:22Speaker 1: That is his dance. He is unashamed of it.
- 49:25Speaker 6: I'm sure he'll do it more than once. Rally.
- 49:29Speaker 19: You can't laugh at it, no, Oh yeah, I think
- 49:32Speaker 19: it's fantastic. I think it's great. Okay, yes, although he
- 49:36Speaker 19: probably doesn't think it's a joke as the only problem.
- 49:39Speaker 1: He probably thinks he's in the village. That's all the time,
- 49:43Speaker 1: No more wrangling. Thanks for joining us. Liz will be
- 49:45Speaker 1: back at ten o'clock and Justin Smith will join us
- 49:47Speaker 1: again next week. Time now for Peter. Cheers,
