- 0:08Speaker 1: Listen everyone. I love getting your emails. No, no, I
- 0:11Speaker 1: really do. That's why I answer all of them, usually
- 0:15Speaker 1: right away. But recently I've been getting a lot of
- 0:18Speaker 1: email asking about one particular topic, and of course it's
- 0:22Speaker 1: a topic that's near and dear to my heart and
- 0:25Speaker 1: one that I've talked about a lot on the show
- 0:27Speaker 1: You Guessed It. It's aliens. Those crazy videos with the
- 0:31Speaker 1: tic Tac ship and those pilots saying these things are everywhere,
- 0:34Speaker 1: and it starts to feel like the opening scene of
- 0:36Speaker 1: a science fiction movie on Netflix that you didn't mean
- 0:39Speaker 1: to watch, but you can't turn off. The kind where
- 0:41Speaker 1: the news reports weird events around the world while scientists
- 0:45Speaker 1: are scoffing. So of course you want to know are
- 0:48Speaker 1: today's scientists actually scoffing or are they preparing for the
- 0:52Speaker 1: first Interstellar Physics Conference. Hi, I'm Daniel. I'm a particle
- 1:12Speaker 1: physicist and I really really really want to believe in
- 1:15Speaker 1: the aliens And Welcome to the podcast Daniel and Jorge
- 1:18Speaker 1: Explain the Universe, a production of My Heart Radio in
- 1:21Speaker 1: which we talk about all things alien, not just extraterrestrial intelligence,
- 1:26Speaker 1: but the universe itself, which sometimes feels downright alien, with
- 1:30Speaker 1: its weird quirks and strange neutron stars and potential alternate
- 1:33Speaker 1: dimensions and weird emergent properties like space and time and
- 1:37Speaker 1: general relativity and ice cream and hamsters and lava and
- 1:41Speaker 1: all that crazy nonsense. We explain all of it to you.
- 1:45Speaker 1: And one of the challenges of this universe is that
- 1:48Speaker 1: it seems a little alien that we look at it
- 1:50Speaker 1: and we don't quite understand why it is the way
- 1:53Speaker 1: that it is. It seems different from the way that
- 1:55Speaker 1: we expect from the fact that time isn't universal and
- 1:58Speaker 1: velocity is purely relative to the weird randomness of quantum mechanics.
- 2:02Speaker 1: We feel like we are living in a universe that
- 2:04Speaker 1: we might not be able to understand. And that's why
- 2:07Speaker 1: I personally am very much looking forward to the first
- 2:10Speaker 1: Interstellar Physics Conference where we can hear about other intelligent
- 2:14Speaker 1: beings and their struggles to understand the universe. It's my
- 2:18Speaker 1: fervent hope that they have different struggles, that they worry
- 2:21Speaker 1: about different things, that there are different things in the
- 2:23Speaker 1: universe that they struggle to understand, and things that we
- 2:26Speaker 1: struggle with they find simple, and so maybe they can
- 2:29Speaker 1: explain them to us. Discovering alien intelligence would be so valuable,
- 2:33Speaker 1: not just because we could learn physics, not just because
- 2:36Speaker 1: they might give us insights into the deepest nature of
- 2:39Speaker 1: the universe, but because it would directly answer one of
- 2:42Speaker 1: the biggest questions in the universe. And that's, of course,
- 2:45Speaker 1: are we alone? Is intelligent life unique to Earth or
- 2:48Speaker 1: has it cropped up all over the galaxy. We just
- 2:51Speaker 1: don't know the answer to that question. So people have
- 2:54Speaker 1: been watching the skies, you know, for decades and for centuries,
- 2:57Speaker 1: and we've all heard reports of flying saucers and easy
- 3:00Speaker 1: things in the sky and crash laying things at roswell.
- 3:03Speaker 1: But it's been sort of easy to dismiss because they
- 3:05Speaker 1: come from people without a lot of credibility or telling
- 3:08Speaker 1: tall stories. But recently there have been videos released from
- 3:11Speaker 1: a much more credible source, not weird cranks on the
- 3:14Speaker 1: radio at three am. We're talking about fighter jet pilots,
- 3:18Speaker 1: people who have been through intense screening. They fly zillion
- 3:22Speaker 1: dollar jets at supersonic speeds and they can drop death
- 3:24Speaker 1: from eighty thousand feet, So they got to be clearheaded.
- 3:28Speaker 1: These people have some credibility, and they've seen some weird stuff,
- 3:32Speaker 1: and they got it on video, and they released it
- 3:35Speaker 1: to the internet, and everybody is talking and a lot
- 3:37Speaker 1: of those people are also emailing me to ask me,
- 3:40Speaker 1: what do you think about these videos? So on today's podcast,
- 3:44Speaker 1: we'll be asking the question, what do the Navy UFO
- 3:52Speaker 1: videos really mean? This thing has percolated to the highest
- 3:56Speaker 1: levels of our culture. Even Obama said, and I quote,
- 4:00Speaker 1: there's footage and records of objects in the skies that
- 4:03Speaker 1: we don't know exactly what they are. We can't explain
- 4:05Speaker 1: how they move their trajectory. They did not have an
- 4:08Speaker 1: easily explainable pattern, and so people take it seriously, trying
- 4:11Speaker 1: to investigate and figure out what that is. He's not scoffing,
- 4:15Speaker 1: he's not dismissing it. He's not saying alien conspiracy theories.
- 4:19Speaker 1: He's saying, hey, there's stuff out there the US government
- 4:23Speaker 1: does not understand. And the reason that it's so exciting,
- 4:26Speaker 1: so tempting to believe that this might actually be aliens,
- 4:29Speaker 1: is that it comes at the same time as we
- 4:31Speaker 1: are understanding much more about the prevalence of life supporting
- 4:35Speaker 1: planets around the galaxy. You know, only twenty five thirty
- 4:39Speaker 1: years ago, we didn't know if there were planets around
- 4:42Speaker 1: other stars, and so only recently have we actually known
- 4:45Speaker 1: that there are planets all over the galaxy, and not
- 4:48Speaker 1: just a few planets, but a lot of planets, billions
- 4:51Speaker 1: and billions of planets, lots and lots of Earth like planets.
- 4:55Speaker 1: We now estimate the twenty of every star in the
- 4:59Speaker 1: galaxy see has an earth like planet. So that's a
- 5:03Speaker 1: lot of potential places for life to start. But of
- 5:06Speaker 1: course we take a clear eyed view on this podcast.
- 5:09Speaker 1: We don't know that just because there are lots of
- 5:11Speaker 1: places for life to start, that life has started in
- 5:14Speaker 1: lots of places. It could be very, very rare. It
- 5:17Speaker 1: could be that we are the only ones, and though
- 5:19Speaker 1: there are billions of opportunities, it's a once in many
- 5:23Speaker 1: billions kind of thing. We also don't know if there's
- 5:26Speaker 1: intelligent life in all those places. It could be that
- 5:28Speaker 1: there's life all over the galaxy, but it's mostly moss
- 5:31Speaker 1: and algae and little microves, nothing that would make a
- 5:33Speaker 1: ship and fly all the way over here and scare
- 5:36Speaker 1: our navy pilots. But it makes us wonder, because there
- 5:40Speaker 1: are so many places for life to live. We wonder
- 5:43Speaker 1: have they come to visit? Is this them coming to visit.
- 5:46Speaker 1: But on the podcast, of course, we don't just speculate.
- 5:48Speaker 1: We dig into it. We delve deep to try to
- 5:51Speaker 1: find some real answers. So on today's podcast we have
- 5:54Speaker 1: a very special guest, someone who will tell us exactly
- 5:56Speaker 1: how to look at these videos and what they mean.
- 6:04Speaker 1: All right, well, it is my absolute pleasure to welcome
- 6:06Speaker 1: the podcast Nick West, who is the founder of metabunk
- 6:10Speaker 1: dot org, a forum about the debunking of conspiracy theories,
- 6:14Speaker 1: and the author of Escaping the rabbit Hole how to
- 6:17Speaker 1: Debunk conspiracy Theories using fact, logic and respect because a
- 6:22Speaker 1: long history and as deep expert in these questions and topics,
- 6:26Speaker 1: and recently wrote an op ed in USA Today about
- 6:29Speaker 1: these very videos. So Nick, thank you very much for
- 6:32Speaker 1: joining us today and for sharing your expertise with us.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Thank you for having me very glad to be here.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Could you tell us a little bit first about your background,
- 6:39Speaker 1: how you got into this game of debunking crazy ideas,
- 6:42Speaker 1: What did you about it, and what is your expertise. Well,
- 6:46Speaker 1: my deep expertise going back a long time is I'm
- 6:49Speaker 1: a video game programmer, which may not say on sound
- 6:51Speaker 1: like particularly relevant stuff, But what idea is a video
- 6:54Speaker 1: game program, but was programming a couple of things. One
- 6:57Speaker 1: is computer graphics, which is how you say a kind
- 7:00Speaker 1: of a model of the world, a three D model
- 7:02Speaker 1: of the world, and you create two D images, so
- 7:05Speaker 1: you have some kind of internal representation of the world,
- 7:07Speaker 1: and then you translate that to the screen. And the
- 7:09Speaker 1: other thing I did is physics, which is, you know,
- 7:13Speaker 1: probably not quite the physics that you have, the advanced
- 7:15Speaker 1: physics that you talk about a lot of the time,
- 7:17Speaker 1: but relatively simple stuff like mechanics, the laws of motion
- 7:21Speaker 1: and velocity and acceleration and things like that, because we
- 7:24Speaker 1: have to simulate objects within the games flying around in
- 7:28Speaker 1: this three D world, and in my case, it was
- 7:31Speaker 1: a skateboarding game Tony Hawks Pro Skater, and so you
- 7:34Speaker 1: you would model things like the skater rolling up hills
- 7:36Speaker 1: and jumping off ramps and things like that, so you're
- 7:38Speaker 1: familiar with the basics of how to calculate things like
- 7:41Speaker 1: acceleration and velocity and collisions and force and mass and
- 7:45Speaker 1: things like that. In the aliens ever appear in these
- 7:47Speaker 1: Tony Hawk skiing games, they do, actually, yes, And in
- 7:50Speaker 1: one of the games, there's actually an area fifty one
- 7:52Speaker 1: where we have a flying sourcer and you can actually
- 7:56Speaker 1: this cheat codes where you can play as an alien.
- 7:58Speaker 1: But this is all completely unrelated to my later interests,
- 8:03Speaker 1: So you know what was What happened with how I
- 8:05Speaker 1: got from A to B from the video games to
- 8:08Speaker 1: debunking flying sources was after I kind of sent my
- 8:12Speaker 1: retired from the industry. I was just working as a
- 8:14Speaker 1: consultant for a while, and I had a lot of
- 8:15Speaker 1: spare time, and I was doing things that I found
- 8:17Speaker 1: personally interesting, and I was learning to fly, and I
- 8:20Speaker 1: got interested in conspiracy theories, and in particular, this is
- 8:23Speaker 1: one called the chem trails conspiracy theory, which is the
- 8:25Speaker 1: idea that the government is secretly spraying trails behind planes
- 8:29Speaker 1: to poisonous or change the weather or the climate. And
- 8:32Speaker 1: I got really into doing stuff like tracking down the
- 8:35Speaker 1: planes and you can actually look them up an online databasis.
- 8:39Speaker 1: But there's also a lot of the mathematics I talked
- 8:41Speaker 1: about in the video games coming very handy there, because
- 8:44Speaker 1: instead of taking a three D image and turning into
- 8:46Speaker 1: the two D, you're taking a two D image and
- 8:48Speaker 1: turning it into three D. You've got to kind of
- 8:51Speaker 1: interpolate and extrapolate things a bit more because you've only
- 8:53Speaker 1: got two dimensions, but it's the same kind of video
- 8:57Speaker 1: spatial reasoning that you use, and so I got good
- 8:59Speaker 1: at doing that with contrails, and then that kind of
- 9:01Speaker 1: lead naturally, there a bunch of other conspiracy theories to
- 9:05Speaker 1: the UFO stuff, and people started sending me pictures of
- 9:07Speaker 1: UFOs and videos of UFOs, and I started getting into
- 9:11Speaker 1: tracking down what these things actually were, what we're being
- 9:14Speaker 1: shown in these videos and these photos, and I just
- 9:16Speaker 1: find it a lot of fun and it's really interesting.
- 9:18Speaker 1: And so you got interested in these conspiracy theories because
- 9:20Speaker 1: you were worried about chem trails and contrails, or because
- 9:23Speaker 1: you were interested in the whole phenomenon of conspiracy theories.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I'm interested in figuring things out, and so I like
- 9:29Speaker 1: to figure out what's actually going on. And you know,
- 9:32Speaker 1: you're look into something like the chemtrails conspiracy theory, it
- 9:34Speaker 1: becomes readily apparent, fairly quickly, there's nothing to it. I mean,
- 9:38Speaker 1: I didn't really think there was anything to it to
- 9:39Speaker 1: start off with, but people make a claim of evidence
- 9:42Speaker 1: and they say, you know, contrals shouldn't persist or something.
- 9:44Speaker 1: You'll look it up. When you find that other contrails canvases.
- 9:47Speaker 1: That was obviously nonsense. So I kind of enjoyed tracking
- 9:50Speaker 1: down things like that, and I also enjoyed explaining is
- 9:53Speaker 1: the people and it's you're not knowing, it's like an aha,
- 9:56Speaker 1: I got your type way, But more just how do
- 9:58Speaker 1: you get across to people what the reality is and
- 10:01Speaker 1: if they have a misconception about something, how do you
- 10:03Speaker 1: explain what that misconception is. So it's been a fun
- 10:06Speaker 1: challenge for me. And I've even dabbled in talking to
- 10:08Speaker 1: people who think the Earth is flat, which is always
- 10:11Speaker 1: makes you interesting conversations, but it also touches upon real
- 10:15Speaker 1: issues of geometry essentially like an optics and how you
- 10:20Speaker 1: perceive the world, which again goes back to the video game,
- 10:23Speaker 1: a thing of you know, you've got three D two D.
- 10:25Speaker 1: It's just all things that have interested in me and
- 10:27Speaker 1: I generally I'm viewed as a debunker of conspiracy theories
- 10:31Speaker 1: because when I look into them, they tended not to
- 10:33Speaker 1: hold up to scrutiny. As I'm looking into things like
- 10:35Speaker 1: flat Earth or you know nine eleven was an inside
- 10:37Speaker 1: job with an ano thermity. You look into things like
- 10:40Speaker 1: that and they don't hold up, so I end up essentially,
- 10:43Speaker 1: you know, debunking things. But that's not what I'm setting
- 10:45Speaker 1: out to do. I'm setting out to figure out what's
- 10:47Speaker 1: actually going on. Well, it seems to me a very
- 10:49Speaker 1: natural extrapolation from what we do in physics all the time,
- 10:53Speaker 1: taking a set of data and trying to use it
- 10:55Speaker 1: to build a model of the universe that's coherent and
- 10:58Speaker 1: consistent and that stands up to examination from multiple perspectives.
- 11:02Speaker 1: And here you're taking, you know, a two dimensional image
- 11:04Speaker 1: and trying to understand more deeply what's actually going on.
- 11:07Speaker 1: But it seems like a natural extension of that as well.
- 11:09Speaker 1: And I just have to add for our listeners that
- 11:11Speaker 1: I discovered when I was looking into your background that
- 11:14Speaker 1: you and I have another connection, which is that this
- 11:16Speaker 1: Camp Trails paper was actually written with a close friend
- 11:18Speaker 1: of mine. Here you see, I Steve Davis, who was
- 11:21Speaker 1: an established scientist. He told me that when you guys
- 11:23Speaker 1: put out this paper, you've got a lot of how
- 11:25Speaker 1: she'd say, popular pushback, Yeah, very much. So, like the
- 11:28Speaker 1: paper is kind of consensus paper, essentially synthesizing consensus by
- 11:33Speaker 1: asking scientists. And Steve did a lot more working than
- 11:35Speaker 1: I did. I was just kind of helped formulate the
- 11:37Speaker 1: questions and find photos and things like that. But we
- 11:40Speaker 1: tried to reach out to as many scientists as possible,
- 11:43Speaker 1: there were domain experts, and ask them, what do you
- 11:45Speaker 1: think that this this photo represents secret spraying or something else?
- 11:49Speaker 1: You know, and and you do you think these these test
- 11:51Speaker 1: results represents something? And a lot of people thought that
- 11:55Speaker 1: we were joking and they were the email back and say,
- 11:57Speaker 1: you know what is this? You know what's going on
- 11:59Speaker 1: here by you even doing this and this This is
- 12:01Speaker 1: a common problem in addressing pseudo scientific claims is that
- 12:06Speaker 1: genuine scientists do not want to waste time with these things.
- 12:10Speaker 1: So you don't get people investigating the claims of kempshell
- 12:15Speaker 1: believers or nine eleven believers, or even like UFO believers,
- 12:18Speaker 1: and so it can creates this false illusion of balance
- 12:21Speaker 1: or no balance in a way like that they think
- 12:22Speaker 1: that they have all the science on their side because
- 12:25Speaker 1: there's no rebuttals to that science. But the reason there's
- 12:28Speaker 1: no rebuttals is that the serious scientists think that these
- 12:31Speaker 1: claims don't even deserve addressing. But then I come in
- 12:35Speaker 1: there and I started trying to address them. Some of
- 12:38Speaker 1: these claims, And of course I'm just essentially a lay
- 12:40Speaker 1: person who's good at looking of things in Google and
- 12:43Speaker 1: good at doing three D geometry, but you know, I'm
- 12:45Speaker 1: not not a scientist. So it's always been a problem
- 12:48Speaker 1: of arguments from authority where you know, they say that
- 12:51Speaker 1: they have science on their side, when really they don't,
- 12:55Speaker 1: but they don't realize that. And you find that making
- 12:57Speaker 1: these arguments carefully and clearly based on the penetrates somehow
- 13:01Speaker 1: to these folks who believe these theories. Do you feel
- 13:03Speaker 1: like there really are open to the evidence. It does
- 13:06Speaker 1: people when presented with a clear explanation for something, they
- 13:10Speaker 1: generally respond fairly well to it, but there's lots of
- 13:13Speaker 1: factors that play into that whether it actually works or not.
- 13:15Speaker 1: There's there's a thing in science communication called the backfire
- 13:18Speaker 1: effect where if you give people information that's contrary to
- 13:22Speaker 1: their beliefs, sometimes it makes them believe those things even
- 13:27Speaker 1: more because they have to. They feel like they're in
- 13:29Speaker 1: an other serial situation and they feel like they have
- 13:32Speaker 1: to fight back. So if you attack their beliefs, it
- 13:36Speaker 1: strengthens their belief because it's almost like are testing their
- 13:38Speaker 1: belief And if you don't actually break through their wall
- 13:41Speaker 1: of disbelief in your theory, then they think that they
- 13:44Speaker 1: have one and they believe or the test of being challenged,
- 13:48Speaker 1: and so it ends up not working. So you have
- 13:50Speaker 1: to do it carefully. And this is another challenge that
- 13:53Speaker 1: I have is is how do you communicate the reality
- 13:57Speaker 1: of the situation to people who believe the opposite without
- 14:00Speaker 1: making them believe that opposite thing even more. And that's
- 14:03Speaker 1: something I talk about quite a bit in my book
- 14:05Speaker 1: How to Treat People with Respect and get through to them. Well,
- 14:09Speaker 1: I think that listeners to this podcast are sort of
- 14:12Speaker 1: entranced by the possibility of extraterrestrial visitors and aliens in general,
- 14:16Speaker 1: as am I of course, but also open to scientific
- 14:20Speaker 1: explanations and eiger mostly to hear the truth to know
- 14:23Speaker 1: what really is going on in the universe. Sometimes what
- 14:26Speaker 1: we discovered by the universe is bonkers and hard to
- 14:28Speaker 1: digest and can be stranger than aliens visiting. So we
- 14:31Speaker 1: definitely need to keep our minds open to all sorts
- 14:34Speaker 1: of crazy realities, but of course it needs to be
- 14:36Speaker 1: supported by the science. So now let's turn to the videos.
- 14:39Speaker 1: In questions only, if you could briefly describe to us
- 14:41Speaker 1: what we see in these videos before we get into
- 14:43Speaker 1: the process of how to analyze them and what we
- 14:46Speaker 1: think they actually mean. Can you walk us through some
- 14:48Speaker 1: of them? Sure? Those actually six videos that have been
- 14:51Speaker 1: released over the last few years. So they kind of
- 14:54Speaker 1: divided into two sets. The three older videos that are
- 14:58Speaker 1: kind of seni official U. S. Navy videos, and then
- 15:00Speaker 1: there's three more videos that were a lad more recently
- 15:03Speaker 1: play to a filmmaker Jeremy Corbell, and he's released these.
- 15:06Speaker 1: The first three ones are the ones that people talk
- 15:08Speaker 1: about the most because they've been around for a while
- 15:10Speaker 1: and that the Navy has actually said that they are official,
- 15:14Speaker 1: and as you released official copies of them. There's three
- 15:16Speaker 1: of them. They're called flear, go Fast, and gimball you
- 15:20Speaker 1: these little little acronyms, which are actually the official names
- 15:23Speaker 1: that they were given by the U. S. Navy. So
- 15:24Speaker 1: I think these names actually have some meaning. But that's
- 15:27Speaker 1: pretty much all that the Navy tells you about them.
- 15:29Speaker 1: So each of these videos is a black and white video.
- 15:31Speaker 1: They were all taken with a piece of equipment called
- 15:34Speaker 1: the raytheon Act flair pot, which is an advanced targeting
- 15:37Speaker 1: advanced targeting forward looking infra red I wish is you know,
- 15:40Speaker 1: kind of fancy, but it's essentially it's just a big
- 15:43Speaker 1: camera that's very good at zooming on things and tracking them.
- 15:46Speaker 1: So it's just this targeting part essentially, the fits on
- 15:48Speaker 1: the planes. And these are infrared videos, so not in
- 15:51Speaker 1: the visible light. They're largely infrared. One of the videos
- 15:55Speaker 1: has a section which is in what they call TV mode,
- 15:57Speaker 1: which TV mode is just a regular a regular video,
- 16:01Speaker 1: but it doesn't actually look that much different to the
- 16:03Speaker 1: to the infrared. But most of the videos are just
- 16:05Speaker 1: the infra red, so what you're looking at is heat.
- 16:07Speaker 1: They're also a little confusing because what you see as
- 16:11Speaker 1: heat shows up as black in these videos is in
- 16:13Speaker 1: black hot mode most of the time in these videos,
- 16:16Speaker 1: and so it's kind of confusing in terms of the
- 16:19Speaker 1: feeling that you're looking at an actual object, because it
- 16:22Speaker 1: seems like you're looking at a physical object when really
- 16:24Speaker 1: you're essentially looking at a very bright light bright it
- 16:27Speaker 1: would be a bright white light if you were looking
- 16:29Speaker 1: at it, if you had infrared vision yourself, you would
- 16:33Speaker 1: just see bright light coming from and you're not really
- 16:34Speaker 1: seeing the shape of the object. What they show is
- 16:37Speaker 1: like the Flear one kind of shows what looks like
- 16:40Speaker 1: a distant object that kind of like bounces around a
- 16:43Speaker 1: little bit, and you didn't see very much as very
- 16:45Speaker 1: small and fuzzy. This is the one sometimes referred to
- 16:47Speaker 1: as the tik tak. Yeah, sometimes refers to as a
- 16:49Speaker 1: tik tak, although the shape in the in the video
- 16:52Speaker 1: isn't really like a clean cut tik tak, is almost
- 16:55Speaker 1: more like a peanut shape. It's kind of like it's
- 16:58Speaker 1: a little waste in the middle. And this was something
- 17:00Speaker 1: that it went along with an encounter and actual eyewitness
- 17:03Speaker 1: encounter by pilots who actually saw something that they described
- 17:07Speaker 1: as a TikTok, And then later another pilot took this
- 17:09Speaker 1: video and said that it was, you know, the same
- 17:12Speaker 1: thing that people assumed it was the same thing, but
- 17:14Speaker 1: you know, it shows something off in the distance and
- 17:17Speaker 1: it's not really moving in the video very much. But
- 17:19Speaker 1: the other two videos do actually show motion, which is
- 17:21Speaker 1: a lot more impressive. There's one called Go Fast, which
- 17:24Speaker 1: looks like the camera is just a been looking down
- 17:27Speaker 1: at the ocean surface and then this object whizzes interview
- 17:30Speaker 1: and then the camera tries to track it and follow
- 17:32Speaker 1: it and then eventually kind of locked on and then
- 17:35Speaker 1: it starts following this object and it's whizzing really really
- 17:37Speaker 1: fast across the ocean surface, at least that's what it
- 17:40Speaker 1: looks like. And then the third video, gimbal, is the
- 17:42Speaker 1: one I think that's the most visually impressive and people
- 17:45Speaker 1: have often cited as being the most compelling. You have
- 17:48Speaker 1: a video out there because it shows a flying surcer
- 17:52Speaker 1: is what looks like a flying source which shows a
- 17:54Speaker 1: kind of like a top type ship, almost almost diamonds
- 17:57Speaker 1: shaped with a little bit rounded with like little spikes
- 17:59Speaker 1: at the top from the bottom and on the end,
- 18:01Speaker 1: and it looks like it's flying along over the top
- 18:05Speaker 1: of some clouds, and then it looks like it slows
- 18:08Speaker 1: down and then it does this weird rotation where it
- 18:11Speaker 1: kind of rotates so it's almost like standing on its end,
- 18:13Speaker 1: and then it rotates the past vertical and it seems
- 18:15Speaker 1: to be hovering in that position about the clouds. So
- 18:18Speaker 1: it looks really impressive. If you were looking for a
- 18:21Speaker 1: video of a UFO flying is also doing something amazing,
- 18:26Speaker 1: it seems like here it is almost like something you
- 18:29Speaker 1: would put in the video game. And so to be clear,
- 18:31Speaker 1: these three videos were sort of released together but they're
- 18:34Speaker 1: not necessarily connected. Like the first one, the tic TAC one,
- 18:37Speaker 1: the FLEAR one was an incident in two thousand four
- 18:40Speaker 1: off the coast of southern California, whereas the other two
- 18:44Speaker 1: were nearly ten years later, and we're taken by planes
- 18:47Speaker 1: operating off the east coast. Yeah, that's right. There were
- 18:49Speaker 1: eleven years later, I think in two thousand and fifteen.
- 18:52Speaker 1: And the first earlier video of the FLIR video taking
- 18:55Speaker 1: in two thousand and four was actually leaked in two
- 18:58Speaker 1: thousand and seven, so it's actually been knocking around on
- 19:02Speaker 1: the Internet and people have been looking at it and
- 19:04Speaker 1: analyzing it for were well over a decade, so it's
- 19:07Speaker 1: not like it's this new thing that has just suddenly
- 19:10Speaker 1: been dropped by the US military. The other two videos
- 19:12Speaker 1: that are connected, they were actually taken by the same
- 19:15Speaker 1: weapon system operator on the same plane, the same pilots
- 19:18Speaker 1: and everything. You can tell you there's information on the
- 19:20Speaker 1: screen that matches, and the voices the same thing. It's
- 19:24Speaker 1: so much newer video, but you know, it's still is
- 19:26Speaker 1: still a few years old. But that one came out
- 19:28Speaker 1: in at the end of two thousands and seventeen, and
- 19:30Speaker 1: it was kind of leaked out by people who used
- 19:34Speaker 1: to work in the Pentagon. There's a guy who you
- 19:35Speaker 1: used to work in the Pentagon, and he says he
- 19:37Speaker 1: worked on this program that studied unidentified aerial phenomena, which
- 19:42Speaker 1: is the kind of the more politically correct term for
- 19:45Speaker 1: the UFO is like UFO without all the baggage of
- 19:47Speaker 1: little green men and flying scurces, but essentially talking about
- 19:50Speaker 1: the same thing. It's unidentified flying objects and identified areal phenomena.
- 19:55Speaker 1: So this guy, you know, he worked on this program
- 19:57Speaker 1: which did some study of unidentified area but not phenomena,
- 20:00Speaker 1: and he knew about these videos apparently, and then he
- 20:03Speaker 1: worked to get them cleared for release and it kind
- 20:05Speaker 1: of got them out. But there's some dispute about how
- 20:07Speaker 1: they got out of the military. It wasn't entirely happy
- 20:09Speaker 1: with it that they think that he misrest misrepresented what
- 20:13Speaker 1: he was going to do with them. But you know,
- 20:15Speaker 1: it's gonna be relevant really because they're out now and
- 20:17Speaker 1: the military has said, you know, these are real things.
- 20:19Speaker 1: They were taken by Navy pilots and they were classified
- 20:22Speaker 1: as unidentified at some point. So here we are, and
- 20:24Speaker 1: when we say real things, we mean the videos are
- 20:27Speaker 1: videos taken by these airplanes. Now that the Navy or
- 20:30Speaker 1: the government is saying what there are videos of the
- 20:33Speaker 1: videos are real videos, it's what they're saying, and they
- 20:37Speaker 1: show something. I mean that it's not like a son
- 20:39Speaker 1: of simulation. There's something there. There are these white dots
- 20:44Speaker 1: or these black dots represent actual things that were there,
- 20:47Speaker 1: that were flying. Essentially, no one's suggesting that they are fake,
- 20:51Speaker 1: but no one's also really well that the government isn't
- 20:54Speaker 1: suggesting that they are alien flying sources. So those the
- 20:57Speaker 1: first three videos, and then there were some new videos
- 21:00Speaker 1: in two thousand nine. Yeah, there was this one came
- 21:02Speaker 1: out called The Well. It doesn't really have an official
- 21:05Speaker 1: name because it's not really an official video. They were
- 21:07Speaker 1: all leaked to this filmmaker and a journalists to too
- 21:10Speaker 1: several people. There's a filmmaker called Jeremy corbell In a
- 21:12Speaker 1: Las Vegas journalist called George Knapp, who are kind of
- 21:15Speaker 1: like partners in crime, a crime, but you know, the
- 21:18Speaker 1: partners in their endeavor in releasing UPHO videos, and apparently
- 21:21Speaker 1: they want to send them a bunch of UFO videos
- 21:23Speaker 1: that were recorded by the U. S. Navy of by
- 21:26Speaker 1: people on ships. US Native personnel. And so the first
- 21:29Speaker 1: one is called the green Pyramid video, and it appears
- 21:33Speaker 1: to show a flying green triangle that plays across the
- 21:36Speaker 1: sky and it's it's flashing a little bit, and then
- 21:39Speaker 1: its life passed two other flying green triangles, and everyone
- 21:42Speaker 1: was amazed at this. It was described as the most
- 21:44Speaker 1: incredible UFO video of all time, better than the gimbaled
- 21:48Speaker 1: video because it showed an actual flying pyramid and people
- 21:53Speaker 1: assume that's what it was because that's what it issues
- 21:54Speaker 1: in the video. Then there was another one called the
- 21:56Speaker 1: Omahaspea video, which shows a black heat source kind of
- 21:59Speaker 1: this ending and then going behind the horizon. And then
- 22:02Speaker 1: those the Omaha Radar video, which just shows by thirty
- 22:05Speaker 1: seconds of a radar screen that shows some tracks on
- 22:09Speaker 1: it and people are talking about them, and then not
- 22:11Speaker 1: entirely show where they are. So those are the six videos,
- 22:13Speaker 1: which sounds like a whole bunch of evidence, a lot
- 22:15Speaker 1: of wonderful evidence for UFOs, but when you start digging
- 22:18Speaker 1: into them, because the magic kind of falls away, all right,
- 22:20Speaker 1: So we will dig into them in just a moment
- 22:23Speaker 1: and talk about what your process is for how you
- 22:25Speaker 1: analyze these and figure out what you think is going on.
- 22:28Speaker 1: But first, let's take a quick break. All right, we're
- 22:43Speaker 1: back and we're talking to Mick West about what's going
- 22:45Speaker 1: on in these videos that the Navy has released that
- 22:48Speaker 1: contain these strange objects that some people are claiming our
- 22:52Speaker 1: evidence of aliens, and other people are more skeptical. So
- 22:55Speaker 1: Mick is an expert in debunking these videos and understanding
- 22:58Speaker 1: from a two D image what we are actually looking at. So, Mike,
- 23:01Speaker 1: I want to hear about your process for how you
- 23:04Speaker 1: take these things apart and understand what's likely going on.
- 23:07Speaker 1: But first I want to share with you the results
- 23:09Speaker 1: of a poll I gave to our listeners. I asked
- 23:11Speaker 1: them this morning, what is the most likely explanation for
- 23:14Speaker 1: the Navy UFO videos? And half of them said that
- 23:18Speaker 1: it was nothing remarkable, a third said it was some
- 23:21Speaker 1: secret military technology, thirteen percent of them said it was
- 23:25Speaker 1: clear evidence of aliens, and five percent claimed it was
- 23:28Speaker 1: likely manipulated video. So that's sort of a snapshot for
- 23:31Speaker 1: where our listeners are in their minds, And so I
- 23:35Speaker 1: think we'd love to hear about what your process is,
- 23:37Speaker 1: how you analyze these videos, how you take them apart. Well,
- 23:40Speaker 1: first of all, I think we can gond just count
- 23:42Speaker 1: the last one that there are edited videos that being
- 23:45Speaker 1: confirmed to be real videos taken by Navy personnel by
- 23:48Speaker 1: the Navy, and in my analysis of it, I haven't
- 23:51Speaker 1: found anything at all that suggests that they are fake
- 23:54Speaker 1: in any way. They appear to be taken by pilots
- 23:57Speaker 1: on planes or sailors on ships, and to represents something
- 24:00Speaker 1: that that's actually showed up in the camera when they
- 24:03Speaker 1: were filming it. But how do you know that the
- 24:04Speaker 1: video itself is authentic, Like maybe the Navy believes it,
- 24:07Speaker 1: but how do we know that the sailors themselves. Haven't
- 24:09Speaker 1: you modified this data? Can you see like the metadata
- 24:12Speaker 1: or somehow verified the authenticity of the digital You can't
- 24:15Speaker 1: see the metadata, But just looking at the video, there's
- 24:18Speaker 1: nothing at all to suggest in it that it was fate.
- 24:21Speaker 1: They look genuine to me, you know, just in the
- 24:24Speaker 1: very self consistem. If you do the analysis and what
- 24:27Speaker 1: actually happened throughout the entire video, there's there's nothing that
- 24:30Speaker 1: suggests anything that various is going on self consistent meaning
- 24:34Speaker 1: for example, the reflections and the angles, the texture of
- 24:37Speaker 1: the video, but it remains the same like when people
- 24:39Speaker 1: added things you often see things like some areas of it,
- 24:41Speaker 1: I have a different kind of noise in the background.
- 24:45Speaker 1: I would look for lighting as one of the things
- 24:47Speaker 1: that is fate, but you know, this is an infrared video,
- 24:50Speaker 1: so it doesn't. There's nothing that suggests it from an
- 24:53Speaker 1: infre prospective that there's anything going on or anything like
- 24:56Speaker 1: the light comes from one part in in one point
- 24:58Speaker 1: of the video and the other part and the other.
- 25:00Speaker 1: You know, it's just nothing left out to me. It's
- 25:02Speaker 1: difficult to test videos like this because there are almost
- 25:06Speaker 1: no videos to compare them against. It's a classified system,
- 25:10Speaker 1: the ALEO system, and so if you want to find
- 25:13Speaker 1: a video to see, you know, here's a genuine APT
- 25:15Speaker 1: flaw video, and here is this one maybe is fake.
- 25:19Speaker 1: These are actually the best at FLE videos that we
- 25:21Speaker 1: actually have available because the military does not release this
- 25:24Speaker 1: type of footage. There's nothing at all. There's a better
- 25:27Speaker 1: quality than the gimbal video or the go Fast video.
- 25:30Speaker 1: So there's a great videos from from that perspective. So
- 25:34Speaker 1: we should assume that the Navy has done some internal
- 25:37Speaker 1: authentication to verify that they're not being duped by their
- 25:39Speaker 1: own sailors, that they understand these systems better than we
- 25:42Speaker 1: obviously do. So we have to just take their word
- 25:44Speaker 1: for it that the US government is not purposely putting
- 25:46Speaker 1: out things they know to be false and move on
- 25:49Speaker 1: from there. I think definitely with the first three videos
- 25:51Speaker 1: because they are Navy pilots and they would have had
- 25:55Speaker 1: to have faced it in the cockpit essentially, because these
- 25:58Speaker 1: things get recorded on tape that is installed on the
- 26:01Speaker 1: system in digital form, and there such a chain of
- 26:05Speaker 1: custody essentially, so you know, the pilot would not have
- 26:08Speaker 1: faced in the cockpit. The other ones, the triangle video,
- 26:11Speaker 1: you know, it is possible that the guy was just
- 26:13Speaker 1: messing around. When you look in the actual explanation making,
- 26:16Speaker 1: we can kind of get into what's actually going on,
- 26:18Speaker 1: but he could have actually have created this effect himself
- 26:22Speaker 1: or herself. And then this the sphere of video and
- 26:24Speaker 1: the radar video, they have the sounds of multiple people
- 26:28Speaker 1: acting as if they are in a c i c.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Combat information center like the room and the ship where
- 26:33Speaker 1: they have all these screens and they look at incoming
- 26:36Speaker 1: threats on the radar and whatnot, and it all sounds
- 26:38Speaker 1: very genuine. So if that was faked, they would have
- 26:41Speaker 1: had to get a bunch of guys to stage this
- 26:43Speaker 1: whole thing, and I think the military probably would have
- 26:47Speaker 1: explained what was going on by this point if if
- 26:49Speaker 1: he was faked to that degree. So you know, I
- 26:51Speaker 1: think we can we can take it as read that
- 26:53Speaker 1: these are genuine Navy videos, all right, And then we're
- 26:56Speaker 1: looking at the videos, we're interested with what could explain
- 26:59Speaker 1: this would how could this possibly be something earth bound
- 27:02Speaker 1: or prosaic? So how do you analyze it? How do
- 27:05Speaker 1: you take it apart? Well? Yeah, what when I look
- 27:06Speaker 1: at in these videos is, first of all, I look
- 27:09Speaker 1: at what other people have claimed about them, because that's
- 27:11Speaker 1: the most important thing where to start off with is
- 27:14Speaker 1: if a claim is made about a video, you can
- 27:16Speaker 1: see does this claim actually hold up? Because these are
- 27:19Speaker 1: other people who say they've done analysis of the video.
- 27:21Speaker 1: So I'm first of all checking their analysis to see
- 27:24Speaker 1: if it got holds up, because it's kind of pointless
- 27:26Speaker 1: meeting a completely different set of analysis and coming to
- 27:28Speaker 1: a different conclusion if I don't look at their analysis.
- 27:31Speaker 1: So in the first video, the FLEAAR video, the claim
- 27:34Speaker 1: is made that the object on screen moves in such
- 27:37Speaker 1: a rapid way that it's it's experiencing g forces much
- 27:41Speaker 1: higher than a human powered craft could do. Human power,
- 27:45Speaker 1: human pilotive craft could actually do it just doing like
- 27:48Speaker 1: fifty g s or something like that. So some quite
- 27:50Speaker 1: high number, much higher numbers have been speculated to the
- 27:53Speaker 1: eyewitness accounts, up to several thousand g's, but that's kind
- 27:56Speaker 1: of all different kettle of fish here. By fifty gs,
- 27:59Speaker 1: you mean the acceleration. You think changes in velocity. To
- 28:02Speaker 1: change the position on screen would require a certain velocity,
- 28:05Speaker 1: and you've got to get an eid velocity with an
- 28:07Speaker 1: attraction of the second, which means you have to have
- 28:09Speaker 1: very rapid acceleration, which means obviously very high forces upon
- 28:13Speaker 1: the occupants of the craft or the craft itself, and
- 28:15Speaker 1: some very powerful means of propulsion, which you can really
- 28:18Speaker 1: only do with without technology if you have some kind
- 28:20Speaker 1: of powerful rocket attached to the object, or if it
- 28:23Speaker 1: was a very small object and you had like minigiat
- 28:25Speaker 1: engines or something like that. But so, you know, I
- 28:28Speaker 1: started to look at that, and I think, you do
- 28:30Speaker 1: the mass if it is moving, then yes, it is
- 28:32Speaker 1: actually experiencing these these high accelerations. But then I started
- 28:35Speaker 1: going through the video and I'm looking at all the
- 28:37Speaker 1: indicators on the screen, and it tells you what mode
- 28:40Speaker 1: is in and what zoom level it's in, whether it's
- 28:43Speaker 1: in TV mode or infrared mode. And yeah, I noticed
- 28:47Speaker 1: that whenever it did this this movement on screen, it
- 28:51Speaker 1: was actually switching which camera it was using, So it
- 28:54Speaker 1: would be switching between say TV mode and infrared mode,
- 28:57Speaker 1: and then the object would do a little movement. If
- 28:59Speaker 1: it's for between wide angle and narrow angle, it would
- 29:02Speaker 1: do a little movement. The camera has to do these
- 29:04Speaker 1: the gimbal rock corrections occasionally where it traverses the forward direction,
- 29:09Speaker 1: it has to rotate the camera around, and when it
- 29:11Speaker 1: does that, it also does this little movement. And then
- 29:14Speaker 1: right at the end of the video you get the
- 29:15Speaker 1: same type of saying. The camera mode changes, the camera
- 29:19Speaker 1: loses lock on the object, and then the object drifts
- 29:22Speaker 1: off the side the screen. So I noticed all these
- 29:24Speaker 1: things lined up, and then I noticed that the heading
- 29:27Speaker 1: on the top of the screen, which tells you which
- 29:29Speaker 1: where the camera is pointing relative to the plane, starts
- 29:31Speaker 1: off on the right. I think it's like five degrees
- 29:33Speaker 1: right something like that, and then it moves over to
- 29:35Speaker 1: eight degrees left, so it's traverting like ten eleven or
- 29:39Speaker 1: twelve degrees over the course of the video, so essentially
- 29:41Speaker 1: it's tracking left. And I noticed that every time the
- 29:45Speaker 1: camera lost lock because it did a little camera movement,
- 29:48Speaker 1: the object moved to the left as if what had happened,
- 29:51Speaker 1: which is the camera has stopped tracking. And so I
- 29:54Speaker 1: did the math on this, looked at the angular speed
- 29:57Speaker 1: of this the camera, and then based on the field
- 30:02Speaker 1: of view of the camera itself, figured out how long
- 30:04Speaker 1: it took the object to leave the screen and take
- 30:07Speaker 1: it out his angular speed. But it's traversing like the
- 30:09Speaker 1: half a degree, which is just that that half of
- 30:12Speaker 1: the camera that gives you another angular speed, and these
- 30:14Speaker 1: two angular speeds matched. So what seemed to be happening
- 30:17Speaker 1: was the camera is tracking this object. It occasionally loses
- 30:21Speaker 1: LCK and regains it, and then at the end it
- 30:22Speaker 1: loses luck and doesn't regain it, so it stops tracking it,
- 30:25Speaker 1: and so the object just continues moving. So it didn't
- 30:28Speaker 1: appear to be doing anything that had amazing g forces.
- 30:31Speaker 1: In fact, it wasn't accelerating at all. There was there
- 30:34Speaker 1: was almost no perceptible acceleration from this object. So what
- 30:38Speaker 1: we're talking about here is an image on the screen
- 30:41Speaker 1: from a camera in motion taking a video of something
- 30:44Speaker 1: else in motion. And what you're saying is that to
- 30:47Speaker 1: understand the motion of the object itself, you also have
- 30:50Speaker 1: to understand the motion of the camera because the image
- 30:52Speaker 1: is relative to the camera, and so if it's drifting
- 30:55Speaker 1: on the screen, you don't know necessarily if that's the
- 30:57Speaker 1: camera turning or if that's the motion of the actual exactly.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Like if you imagine you you've got some binoculars and
- 31:03Speaker 1: you're looking at the plane up in the sky, you know,
- 31:05Speaker 1: far distant plane, and you're just tracking it by following
- 31:09Speaker 1: this this thing, but you occasionally it goes behind the
- 31:11Speaker 1: three or something that you have to move a position.
- 31:13Speaker 1: You'll see the plane will just all around in your
- 31:15Speaker 1: field of view. And then if at some point you
- 31:17Speaker 1: simply stop tracking it and you hold the binoculars in
- 31:20Speaker 1: that position, that the plane will appear to continue going.
- 31:23Speaker 1: And I think essentially is what we're seeing here, and
- 31:25Speaker 1: that's what matches all of the on screen display. You know,
- 31:28Speaker 1: the user interface on the screen displays all these these angles,
- 31:31Speaker 1: and the camera modes. It all basically lines up with
- 31:34Speaker 1: this explanation I see. So you're not just speculating, you're
- 31:37Speaker 1: not just finding some alternative explanation that the camera motion
- 31:40Speaker 1: is causing this apparent motion of the object. You're actually
- 31:43Speaker 1: seeing confirmation on the screen itself that reads out what
- 31:46Speaker 1: the camera is doing, that tells you that everything that
- 31:48Speaker 1: the object appears to be moving is in fact just
- 31:50Speaker 1: due to the motion of the camera exactly. Yes, every
- 31:53Speaker 1: every time the object appears to move, it is in
- 31:55Speaker 1: sync with some kind of change of the camera. Either
- 31:59Speaker 1: the camera is to it's gimble correction, or it's changing
- 32:01Speaker 1: mode from one mode to another, or it's changing zoom level,
- 32:04Speaker 1: so it's changing the optical pathway within the camera. And
- 32:07Speaker 1: you actually kind of see this at one point in
- 32:09Speaker 1: the video. The object appears to zoom off really really
- 32:12Speaker 1: quickly to the bottom left corner in an incredibly high
- 32:15Speaker 1: rate of speed, where hundreds hundreds of gees of acceleration
- 32:18Speaker 1: to get to that speed internally almost instantly. But you
- 32:21Speaker 1: can see that coincides exactly with a switch in the
- 32:25Speaker 1: optical pathway from the narrow field of view to the
- 32:27Speaker 1: wild white field of view. And it's exactly the same
- 32:30Speaker 1: type of thing that happens. If you say you've got
- 32:32Speaker 1: a microscope, you're looking down the microscope, and you it's
- 32:34Speaker 1: got these different lenses down the bottom. If you rotate
- 32:37Speaker 1: the magnification the objective down below, you will see the
- 32:42Speaker 1: image shift and move, and that's what we're seeing in
- 32:45Speaker 1: this video. At the act same time, this object does
- 32:48Speaker 1: this like movement off to the side. You see that
- 32:50Speaker 1: they're switching from one optical field of view to another.
- 32:54Speaker 1: So they're changing the duty internally with mirrors. It's not
- 32:57Speaker 1: actually lenses, because they use mirrors for infrared cams to
- 33:00Speaker 1: reduce the absorbs of the light. It's it's a lot
- 33:04Speaker 1: more effective use knows, But so they're rotating these mirrors,
- 33:07Speaker 1: this set of mirrors in and then what happens in
- 33:09Speaker 1: the next few frames is it magically appears right back
- 33:11Speaker 1: in the middle. So it's obviously never moved though it
- 33:14Speaker 1: was there, but the movement of the camera made him
- 33:16Speaker 1: move off to the site, exactly the same as you
- 33:19Speaker 1: know when you rotating microscope, everything moves off to the side,
- 33:21Speaker 1: and then bang, it appears back in the middle again,
- 33:23Speaker 1: but in a different magnification. So if you're just looking
- 33:26Speaker 1: at the camera footage, you might be confused at first,
- 33:28Speaker 1: but if you were there in real time, your brain
- 33:31Speaker 1: is pretty good at sort of subtracting your motion from
- 33:34Speaker 1: your model of what's going on, Like if you're following
- 33:36Speaker 1: something with binoculars, you know if you've tweaked the binoculars
- 33:39Speaker 1: or not. Weren't there also eyewitness accounts of these objects.
- 33:42Speaker 1: Weren't the Navy pilots themselves surprised at the motion they saw?
- 33:45Speaker 1: How do we account for that? Well, the thing is
- 33:48Speaker 1: there are eyewitness account but they're not all the same thing.
- 33:51Speaker 1: They're not all what was seen in the video. So
- 33:55Speaker 1: we have some eyewitnesses who said they had an encounter
- 33:59Speaker 1: with a tick tak shaped objects. It was like a
- 34:01Speaker 1: fort long tic tac that kind of mirrored their motions
- 34:05Speaker 1: and moved around and then flew off very rapidly. And
- 34:07Speaker 1: then an hour later another plane went out and took
- 34:10Speaker 1: this video, So we don't know if it's the same thing.
- 34:14Speaker 1: So it could be that you could be the same thing.
- 34:17Speaker 1: But in the video we can tell that nothing amazing
- 34:20Speaker 1: is going on in terms of certain movements and high accelerations.
- 34:24Speaker 1: But we do have this eye when it's account from
- 34:26Speaker 1: an hour earlier of possibly a different object, possibly to
- 34:29Speaker 1: say a lot Joe that was just moving rapidly this time.
- 34:31Speaker 1: But you know, I don't know what that was. Have
- 34:34Speaker 1: a few ideas that hypotheses that might work to do
- 34:38Speaker 1: with parallax and things like that, but I don't think
- 34:40Speaker 1: it's the same thing as in the video. And unfortunately
- 34:43Speaker 1: no shade against navy pilots, but I witness accounts are
- 34:46Speaker 1: famously unreliable. It really can't be probed in any detail.
- 34:49Speaker 1: So we really just have to look at the evidence
- 34:50Speaker 1: we have in front of us. Indeed, and in Navy
- 34:52Speaker 1: pilots are very highly trained and they're very good at
- 34:54Speaker 1: identifying other planes, highly trained and doing that and you know,
- 34:59Speaker 1: plane from different angles and things. But what we're asking
- 35:02Speaker 1: them to do here he identified something that is world
- 35:06Speaker 1: remained unidentified even after they saw it, so that they
- 35:09Speaker 1: never actually identified it. They saw what looks like a
- 35:13Speaker 1: tic tac shaped object, like a giant propane tank. They
- 35:15Speaker 1: gave that description, and maybe that's just what it looked like,
- 35:19Speaker 1: you know, maybe that was what it was, but then
- 35:21Speaker 1: the movement. Is that what actually happened or is that
- 35:23Speaker 1: just how they perceived the movement because it was a
- 35:26Speaker 1: type of thing that they were not so familiar with.
- 35:28Speaker 1: If you don't know how big something is you do
- 35:30Speaker 1: know how far away is it? They said it was
- 35:32Speaker 1: forty ft long, But how did they actually figure that out?
- 35:35Speaker 1: They never actually explained that. And they said that they're
- 35:38Speaker 1: very familiar with looking at hounted which is a type
- 35:40Speaker 1: of plane theft like the f A A team, which
- 35:42Speaker 1: is forty ft long. And he said it was about
- 35:44Speaker 1: the same size as that. But that's to me, sounds
- 35:46Speaker 1: like he's used to seeing things that are forty ft long,
- 35:49Speaker 1: and so he just automatically fit this object, which may
- 35:52Speaker 1: have been ten ft long or twenty ft long or
- 35:54Speaker 1: eight long into that mold because he didn't know how
- 35:58Speaker 1: big it was. He then don't know how far away
- 36:00Speaker 1: it is. If you think something is forty ft long
- 36:03Speaker 1: and it's actually twenty ft long, then the actual distance
- 36:06Speaker 1: is half what it actually appears to be. So he's
- 36:09Speaker 1: thinking something flying really fast over there, it could have
- 36:12Speaker 1: been flying really slow much closer to him. So that's
- 36:15Speaker 1: the clear video. Then let's go through the other ones
- 36:17Speaker 1: to go fast in the gimbal videos. Okay, so the
- 36:20Speaker 1: go Fast video, actually it looks like something moving very
- 36:23Speaker 1: fast over the surface of the ocean. But here, luckily,
- 36:25Speaker 1: there's some very simple mathematics that we can do because
- 36:28Speaker 1: on screen we have three numbers, which is all we
- 36:32Speaker 1: need to figure out what's going on. Really, we have
- 36:35Speaker 1: the altitude of the plane, which is twenty five thou
- 36:38Speaker 1: feet and it's that's in the bottom left corner. So
- 36:40Speaker 1: barometric altitude so it's based on the pressure is close enough,
- 36:43Speaker 1: so it's about We have the range of the targets
- 36:49Speaker 1: because it actually gets a radar lock on this target,
- 36:51Speaker 1: so it knows how far away it is. He knows
- 36:53Speaker 1: it's three point three nauticable miles away line of sight
- 36:57Speaker 1: from you to this object. And then we also have
- 36:59Speaker 1: the plant angle, which is the angle down from horizontal
- 37:04Speaker 1: that the cameras, which I believe is a sauted around
- 37:08Speaker 1: mine twenty two twenty two degrees down, so we know
- 37:10Speaker 1: we're at twenty five feet. We're looking down at twenty
- 37:15Speaker 1: two degrees at something which is three point three nautical
- 37:19Speaker 1: miles away. So this diagonal line down is say it's
- 37:23Speaker 1: the high potent use of a right angled triangle. And
- 37:25Speaker 1: again what we're looking at is the center of the
- 37:27Speaker 1: screen is some object and in the background is the
- 37:30Speaker 1: ocean moving past it. And it appears as if it's
- 37:33Speaker 1: schimming just over the surface of the water incredibly high speeds.
- 37:36Speaker 1: So again, like what I'm doing here is I'm looking
- 37:38Speaker 1: at the claims that are made. So the simple claim
- 37:40Speaker 1: is that you know, it is scheming over the service
- 37:43Speaker 1: of the ocean at really high speed. So I'm saying,
- 37:45Speaker 1: is it actually doing that? And if we can use
- 37:47Speaker 1: these numbers to figure that out, then that will prove
- 37:50Speaker 1: or just prove that particular hypothesis. So you know, we've
- 37:53Speaker 1: got these three numbers, you know, the range, the altitude,
- 37:56Speaker 1: and the slant angle. We can do very very simple mathematics.
- 37:59Speaker 1: We are right tangle triangle and this we have an angle,
- 38:02Speaker 1: and we have the length of the hypoten news, which
- 38:04Speaker 1: just takes the sign of the angle and multiplied by
- 38:06Speaker 1: the hypoten news and it gives you the opposite leg
- 38:09Speaker 1: of that triangle, which is the heights below where you are.
- 38:14Speaker 1: This is just high school mathematics. It's tenth grade mathematics.
- 38:17Speaker 1: If you take tenth grade triggonometry, that you would you
- 38:19Speaker 1: would learn exactly how to solve this very very simple problem.
- 38:22Speaker 1: You can draw a diagram super simple. Turns out it's
- 38:25Speaker 1: not actually low The object is not low down at
- 38:29Speaker 1: the bottom of the ocean. It's actually halfway between where
- 38:33Speaker 1: the plane is and the ocean, which means that if
- 38:36Speaker 1: it's halfway between you and the ocean, then if, for example,
- 38:40Speaker 1: it wasn't moving at all, what we would see on
- 38:43Speaker 1: screen would still look exactly the same as we see
- 38:46Speaker 1: in this video. It would look like it's moving very
- 38:49Speaker 1: rapidly over the ocean. Because the plane that we're taking
- 38:52Speaker 1: the video from, one of the other numbers we see
- 38:54Speaker 1: on screen is that it starts out with a camera
- 38:56Speaker 1: fifty degrees to the left. So it's kind of like
- 38:58Speaker 1: you're going along in a car and a faster or
- 39:01Speaker 1: a train, and you're looking out the side window of
- 39:04Speaker 1: this train and you see something like a building in
- 39:08Speaker 1: a field far away, and then the mountains behind it.
- 39:11Speaker 1: If you just focus on that building, it will look
- 39:13Speaker 1: like it's kind of skimming past these mountains. The mountains
- 39:16Speaker 1: will pay to move behind it if you look on
- 39:18Speaker 1: onto that. If you look onto the mountains behind it,
- 39:20Speaker 1: it will look like the house is moving past. It's
- 39:23Speaker 1: it's the parallax effect, and when one thing appears to
- 39:26Speaker 1: move relative to another because of a change in the position,
- 39:29Speaker 1: all of the viewpoint. So you're able to look at
- 39:31Speaker 1: this video and measure the distance between the planes taking
- 39:35Speaker 1: the video and the object and show that it's much
- 39:38Speaker 1: closer to the plane than it is to the surface
- 39:41Speaker 1: of the ocean, that the claim that it's right above
- 39:43Speaker 1: the surface is just an illusion. And then it's actually
- 39:46Speaker 1: much much higher above the surface of the ocean. It's
- 39:48Speaker 1: not really closer to the plane than the surface of
- 39:50Speaker 1: the ocean is actually halfway. It's actually almost exactly in
- 39:53Speaker 1: the middle, which is like the ideal position really for
- 39:56Speaker 1: this this parallax alluvision to happen if it wasn't moving,
- 40:00Speaker 1: which it is actually moving, But imagine if it wasn't moving,
- 40:03Speaker 1: and you draw a line from your plane through this object.
- 40:06Speaker 1: You know, she's hovering in space down to the surface
- 40:08Speaker 1: of the ocean, and you think, you know, you move
- 40:11Speaker 1: your plane at two thirds the speed of sound in
- 40:13Speaker 1: one direction. The other end of that line, that line
- 40:16Speaker 1: of sight is going to move in the opposite direction
- 40:18Speaker 1: at two the speed of sound. So if you think
- 40:21Speaker 1: that the object itself is down by the surface of
- 40:23Speaker 1: the ocean, it would look like it's moving over the
- 40:26Speaker 1: ocean at the same speed as your plane, except in
- 40:28Speaker 1: the opposite direction, so you get this weird delusion. But
- 40:31Speaker 1: besides this, the simple observation that it's in the middle
- 40:34Speaker 1: and that it doesn't necessarily need to be moving. We
- 40:36Speaker 1: can then actually go in and calculate how fast it
- 40:39Speaker 1: is moving because we know time comes into it is
- 40:42Speaker 1: that's a factor here. So we have like thirty seconds
- 40:45Speaker 1: of the video where we have a lock on this object.
- 40:47Speaker 1: We have a range, and we have a slant angle,
- 40:50Speaker 1: and we have a bearing angle relative to the plane,
- 40:54Speaker 1: and we also have the tailt angle of the plane's wings.
- 40:56Speaker 1: So it's you know, it's getting a little bit more complicated.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Now we have more variables, but we can say the
- 41:00Speaker 1: kilt angle of the plane's wings, and we can use
- 41:02Speaker 1: just standard calculators to figure out what the rate of
- 41:05Speaker 1: turn would be in degrees for second, so we know
- 41:07Speaker 1: the plane is just turning to the left and amount.
- 41:10Speaker 1: We also know how fast the plane is going because
- 41:12Speaker 1: we have that number on screen. Although the number there
- 41:14Speaker 1: is the calibrated despeed, not the true air speed. You
- 41:17Speaker 1: have to convert them solves. It's a little bit more complicated,
- 41:19Speaker 1: and even though this is one of the simpler videos,
- 41:21Speaker 1: things get complicated. So we know the angle and the
- 41:24Speaker 1: range at the starts, and we know the angle and
- 41:25Speaker 1: the range at the end. So if we draw a
- 41:27Speaker 1: little back to diagram with a plane in one position
- 41:30Speaker 1: at the start of this segment, and then the plane
- 41:32Speaker 1: where it ends up at the end of this segment,
- 41:33Speaker 1: which kind of forward in a bit to the left
- 41:35Speaker 1: and turn a bit, we can draw two lines from
- 41:37Speaker 1: those positions and see where the target actually is relative
- 41:43Speaker 1: to the plane, because we know how far away it is,
- 41:45Speaker 1: and we know the angle to look at, so we
- 41:47Speaker 1: know where it is in plane space plane relative space.
- 41:50Speaker 1: And then you've got those two positions, you draw a
- 41:53Speaker 1: line between those and you measure the length of that line.
- 41:55Speaker 1: That is, how far that object has moved in the
- 41:59Speaker 1: absolute coordinates where the plane started. So knowing what you
- 42:01Speaker 1: see on the screen and knowing the position of the
- 42:04Speaker 1: camera at all times, you can completely reconstruct sort of
- 42:06Speaker 1: the three D story of what actually happened. Yeah, and
- 42:09Speaker 1: actually created a little interactive Vetter diagram where you could
- 42:13Speaker 1: adjust to various parameters because there's some uncertainty. Is to
- 42:17Speaker 1: know exactly what's going on in terms of how fast
- 42:20Speaker 1: this is rotating, how fast the plane is turning to
- 42:23Speaker 1: the side, but what you can do is you can
- 42:25Speaker 1: just see the range of values this object might have moved,
- 42:29Speaker 1: which gives you the range of possible velocitudes. And it
- 42:31Speaker 1: turns around. It's something of the order of around like
- 42:34Speaker 1: forty or fifty knots. You know, it's like forty four
- 42:37Speaker 1: fifty five miles per hour, which is very very slow
- 42:40Speaker 1: for a flying object, and in fact it's about the
- 42:44Speaker 1: exact same speed as the wind at that altitude. Typical
- 42:49Speaker 1: value for wind as high altitudes is anything from like
- 42:53Speaker 1: thirty knots up to a hundred knot so it's it's
- 42:56Speaker 1: entirely consistent with something just simply sitting in the wind
- 43:00Speaker 1: than being blown by the wind. So just like a
- 43:01Speaker 1: balloon under no power at all being blown by the wind,
- 43:04Speaker 1: exactly like a balloon. And in fact, the balloon is
- 43:07Speaker 1: the most likely hypothesis for another factor, which you can
- 43:10Speaker 1: also get from the more information that's in this video.
- 43:13Speaker 1: It's quite remarkable how much information is in there. The
- 43:16Speaker 1: video is in black hot mode. Is an INTREDI video again,
- 43:20Speaker 1: and it's in black hot. So if if it was
- 43:22Speaker 1: hot it was a jet plane, for example, you would
- 43:25Speaker 1: see the heat of the engine show it was black
- 43:27Speaker 1: but this just shows there was a white dot, which
- 43:29Speaker 1: means it's actually cold. It's actually colder than the ocean.
- 43:32Speaker 1: You can see it's actually colder than the surface of
- 43:34Speaker 1: the ocean, which appears darker behind it. And that would
- 43:37Speaker 1: be really weird if it actually was moving very fast,
- 43:40Speaker 1: because you'd see no emission. But since it's not moving quickly,
- 43:43Speaker 1: it makes sense that it's not emitting any heat exactly exactly,
- 43:46Speaker 1: and that's one of the claims that has been made.
- 43:48Speaker 1: This was an extraordinary craft, you know, simply a you know,
- 43:51Speaker 1: a jet flying very fast. It's not amazing. But the
- 43:54Speaker 1: reason there was claimed to be extraordinary was that it
- 43:57Speaker 1: was cold. They had no visible flights evises or anything
- 44:00Speaker 1: like that. He just appears as this dot. That's that's cold.
- 44:04Speaker 1: But you know, a dot lit is cold. Drifting at
- 44:07Speaker 1: wind speed is just a balloon because it would take
- 44:09Speaker 1: on the temperature of the air around it and just
- 44:12Speaker 1: be moving at the same speed as the wind. So again,
- 44:14Speaker 1: once you you dig into it, everything fits this new
- 44:17Speaker 1: hypothesis of it being a balloon, which kind of the
- 44:20Speaker 1: thought arises naturally, what moves out wind speed in the air,
- 44:24Speaker 1: And there's anybody you know, this either a plane pretending
- 44:26Speaker 1: to be a balloon or it is a balloon, so
- 44:28Speaker 1: it fits. And obviously it disproves the earlier hypothesis that
- 44:32Speaker 1: is some incredible craft moving without means of propulsion. Well,
- 44:35Speaker 1: I always wonder what happens to the balloons that are
- 44:38Speaker 1: released at like gender revealed parties, and maybe some of
- 44:40Speaker 1: them end up as you know, claimed aliens and my
- 44:43Speaker 1: navy pilots will never know. All right, So that's the
- 44:45Speaker 1: flear Tic Tac video as well as the go Fast video.
- 44:48Speaker 1: What about the gimbal one? The one you said is
- 44:50Speaker 1: claimed to be the most dramatic, lying slaster video we've
- 44:53Speaker 1: ever seen. It is if you don't know what's going on,
- 44:56Speaker 1: But once you do know what's going I said, it's
- 44:58Speaker 1: still kind of interesting. Again, like you do. The what's
- 45:00Speaker 1: my process here is to look at the claims that
- 45:03Speaker 1: are made about this video. One of the claims dates
- 45:06Speaker 1: back to when it was originally leaked by the New
- 45:09Speaker 1: York Times in two thousands and seventeen. The title of
- 45:13Speaker 1: the article was called Glowing Auras and Black Money, And
- 45:17Speaker 1: the reason they called it Blowing Auras and Black Money
- 45:19Speaker 1: was that what you see on the screen is this
- 45:21Speaker 1: black source of shaped object, but then around it there's
- 45:24Speaker 1: a white aura like kind of a white glow around it,
- 45:29Speaker 1: which looks very unusual. But then when you know that
- 45:32Speaker 1: this interred video where black is heart, that implies what
- 45:35Speaker 1: you're seeing around the object is cold, So you're seeing
- 45:40Speaker 1: what is it? What could it be? Is it like
- 45:42Speaker 1: a hot object with cold air around it? And it
- 45:44Speaker 1: seems like something that's physically impossible, and in fact, if
- 45:47Speaker 1: it was cold, you wouldn't actually see it because air
- 45:50Speaker 1: essentially is transparent to the infrared, so it takes a
- 45:53Speaker 1: loss of heat to actually see heat coming off of gases,
- 45:58Speaker 1: so you wouldn't actually see it if it was just
- 45:59Speaker 1: cold there. So people hypothesized about it being some kind
- 46:02Speaker 1: of space warp or something like that, some kind of
- 46:04Speaker 1: us walk in the nature of space time around this object,
- 46:08Speaker 1: and that's what it means. The propulsion is being suggested
- 46:10Speaker 1: by this strange aura. So what I did there is
- 46:14Speaker 1: I went to look for other thermal camera footage. Now
- 46:18Speaker 1: we don't have this particular camera that the actual camera,
- 46:21Speaker 1: but we do have lots of footage from thermal cameras,
- 46:23Speaker 1: just like things like surveillance cameras and people doing experiments
- 46:27Speaker 1: with little film and cameras. I have a little thermal
- 46:28Speaker 1: camera myself somewhere in my desk, and you can you
- 46:31Speaker 1: can do this experiment. And what I found was that
- 46:33Speaker 1: this type of glowing aura around a black hot shape
- 46:37Speaker 1: is actually remarkably common. I found it in numerous other videos.
- 46:41Speaker 1: I found it around the exhaust of jet plane to
- 46:43Speaker 1: either be a black with a white aura around it.
- 46:46Speaker 1: I found it around a dancing girl. Someone took an
- 46:49Speaker 1: inter picture of a small girl who was dancing and
- 46:52Speaker 1: she appeared as black and she had this white aura
- 46:53Speaker 1: around it. And it turns out that this aura is
- 46:56Speaker 1: a common artifact of thermal cameras. I thought you were
- 47:00Speaker 1: going to say that this dancing girl was probably an alien. Well,
- 47:03Speaker 1: and that's the possibility, of course, but you know, low
- 47:06Speaker 1: down on the list, so you know, I find out
- 47:08Speaker 1: that this lowing aura, I mean, the first claim that
- 47:10Speaker 1: they made about the video didn't actually hold up, and
- 47:12Speaker 1: that it wasn't actually evidence of anything at all. It
- 47:15Speaker 1: was just a normal expected artifact of the camera. When
- 47:18Speaker 1: you say artifact, you mean that we're not seeing something
- 47:21Speaker 1: that's actually there. We're seeing sort of like something that
- 47:23Speaker 1: happens to the screen as the data is taken. Yeah,
- 47:26Speaker 1: it's a sharpening artifact, and the reason it appears is
- 47:30Speaker 1: that to increase the visual contrast of objects, that use
- 47:33Speaker 1: a thing called an unsharped mask, which is an old
- 47:36Speaker 1: photography technique, is actually a physical photography technique where you
- 47:40Speaker 1: kind of you take a blurred version of the image
- 47:41Speaker 1: and then you subtract it from the image itself and
- 47:45Speaker 1: it accents the boundaries between light and dark. So it's
- 47:48Speaker 1: a very good way of increasing the contrast. But if
- 47:50Speaker 1: you boost it very high, which you do if you
- 47:52Speaker 1: want to see things very clearly and you don't really
- 47:54Speaker 1: care so much about image fidelity, you create these areas
- 47:58Speaker 1: around things and you actually you see it in iPhone photography.
- 48:01Speaker 1: If you zoom in on the edges of things, you
- 48:04Speaker 1: will see a kind of a light dark boundary between
- 48:07Speaker 1: dark light things. So you can get these kind of issues.
- 48:10Speaker 1: Are just a few pixels if that, But that's standard,
- 48:13Speaker 1: a standard image sharpening artifact in digital photography, and so
- 48:17Speaker 1: this is probably done by the camera online automatically. This
- 48:21Speaker 1: is not like some post processing that was done in
- 48:23Speaker 1: the studio. This is just digital processing in the pipeline.
- 48:26Speaker 1: This was done in camera essentially, and you can see
- 48:28Speaker 1: it doesn't occur around the numbers on the side of
- 48:30Speaker 1: the screen, so it's just part of the video feed itself,
- 48:34Speaker 1: and it's something that they can actually switch one or
- 48:36Speaker 1: off in the camera because it's just a standard like
- 48:38Speaker 1: sharpening setting. So then while we're seeing is a hot object. Yes,
- 48:41Speaker 1: so what we're seeing is a black hot object, which
- 48:44Speaker 1: just means hot object. So then they claim that it
- 48:47Speaker 1: shows an object which is rotating, which kind of implies
- 48:50Speaker 1: to things. I mean that one is that it implies
- 48:52Speaker 1: that what we're seeing is the actual shape of the object,
- 48:54Speaker 1: this kind of source of shape thing, and that what
- 48:57Speaker 1: we're seeing is that object actually rotate thing. So you
- 49:00Speaker 1: start looking into that and you think, you know, is
- 49:03Speaker 1: there an alternative to it being a physical object? And
- 49:08Speaker 1: the alternative that I came up with was that it
- 49:11Speaker 1: could be the glare of an object. If you take
- 49:15Speaker 1: something like a flashlight and kind of flashlights shining at
- 49:17Speaker 1: the camera here, it creates a big glare. You see.
- 49:19Speaker 1: I've got a small flashlight here's about the size of
- 49:21Speaker 1: my eyeball, and I changed at the camera and I
- 49:24Speaker 1: got this big glare that's always the size of my head.
- 49:26Speaker 1: So you can get these big glass Now, this isn't
- 49:28Speaker 1: just something that occurred to me out of the blue.
- 49:31Speaker 1: This is something that came directly from a previous case
- 49:33Speaker 1: that I had investigated, called the Chilean Navy UFO case,
- 49:36Speaker 1: where there was a similar looking kind of big black blob.
- 49:40Speaker 1: It was a bit more irregular this one, and some
- 49:44Speaker 1: investigation of that one by tracking down the actual radar
- 49:47Speaker 1: tracks at that time, and we knew all the GPS
- 49:49Speaker 1: coordinates and everything, so we didn't really need to make guesses.
- 49:52Speaker 1: We figured out exactly what it was this object. It
- 49:55Speaker 1: turns out this big amorphous black blob was actually an airbus,
- 49:59Speaker 1: a three FOURT, which is a four engined plane, and
- 50:02Speaker 1: each of the four engines was creating a infrared blare. Again,
- 50:07Speaker 1: it was infrared footage that was about maybe ten twenty
- 50:10Speaker 1: times as big as the actual engine itself, and they
- 50:13Speaker 1: all kind of merged together into this one big block.
- 50:16Speaker 1: So when I saw this other video, this gimble video
- 50:19Speaker 1: of something in the infrared, almost my first thought was,
- 50:22Speaker 1: could this be like in that old case, like in
- 50:25Speaker 1: the Chilean Navy uf case. Could it be the glare
- 50:28Speaker 1: of the engine that's obscuring a distant plane, and so
- 50:32Speaker 1: I started looking into that as a hypothesis, the kind
- 50:36Speaker 1: of answers you know, what's actually going on here. So
- 50:39Speaker 1: if you look into you know, the one aspect of it.
- 50:41Speaker 1: This most impressive, the rotation of the object, something that
- 50:45Speaker 1: came out after simply just studying it over and over again.
- 50:48Speaker 1: What I would do is I take the video into
- 50:51Speaker 1: a program where you could scrub rapidly through the videos
- 50:53Speaker 1: that you you can move the position of the playhead essentially,
- 50:56Speaker 1: so you can go backwards and forward. So I was
- 50:58Speaker 1: having the object going like this, tating, and then I
- 51:01Speaker 1: noticed that in other parts of the screen there were
- 51:05Speaker 1: these are vague shapes, there were also rotating. So at
- 51:08Speaker 1: the same time as the object rotated or appear to rotate,
- 51:12Speaker 1: we saw other bits of light within the scene rotate.
- 51:16Speaker 1: And I thought, you know, how could this be? I mean,
- 51:18Speaker 1: the only thing that makes any sense is that the
- 51:22Speaker 1: camera itself is rotating, and if the camera rotates, then
- 51:25Speaker 1: all of the lights in the scene with rotate. Now,
- 51:27Speaker 1: this is where it starts to get a little bit complicated,
- 51:29Speaker 1: and it's a little bit difficult to explain, and people
- 51:31Speaker 1: have a hard time with this. If you rotate a camera,
- 51:34Speaker 1: then the picture of what you're looking at will also rotate.
- 51:38Speaker 1: And so but what we're looking at here, and I'm
- 51:41Speaker 1: saying the cameras rotating, but only this little glare in
- 51:45Speaker 1: the middle of the screen rotating, and these these other
- 51:47Speaker 1: shapes are rotating. But the thing about this particular camera
- 51:50Speaker 1: system is that it's the way it is mounted. It's
- 51:53Speaker 1: mounted on a two axis gimbal, and when it moves
- 51:57Speaker 1: from left to right when it's trying an object, it
- 52:01Speaker 1: can't just smoothly do that because it's it's only a
- 52:03Speaker 1: mounted on two access and you get this thing called
- 52:05Speaker 1: gimbal lock, which people are familiar with from all different
- 52:09Speaker 1: like robotics has this problem where a robot can't smoothly
- 52:13Speaker 1: go through one particular angle, so it has to do
- 52:15Speaker 1: this rotation, which means that the camera rotate. The camera
- 52:19Speaker 1: has to rotate to get from lecture right. You don't
- 52:21Speaker 1: want the whole scene to rotate. The pilots watching the scene,
- 52:24Speaker 1: he doesn't want the horizon has suddenly flip upside down.
- 52:26Speaker 1: So even though the camera is rotating, the horizon stays
- 52:30Speaker 1: exactly a level. But so what's happening though, is that
- 52:34Speaker 1: the camera's rotating relative to some part of the equipment.
- 52:37Speaker 1: With that, it's within essentially that it's in this big
- 52:41Speaker 1: pot and it's looking at through this window. And so
- 52:43Speaker 1: my hypothesis there was that because it's rotating relative to
- 52:47Speaker 1: the window, the shape of the window or what's on
- 52:49Speaker 1: the window is creating the shape of the glare. So
- 52:51Speaker 1: the camera rotate, rotates the horizon. It then has this
- 52:55Speaker 1: system to rotate everything back. But since the cameras rotated
- 52:58Speaker 1: relative to the horizon, the shape with the glare relative
- 53:00Speaker 1: to the rise and changes. You know, it is difficult
- 53:03Speaker 1: to explain. I came up with a simple demonstration that
- 53:06Speaker 1: I actually show this on CNN. I have this bit
- 53:08Speaker 1: of glass, it's a filter camera and filter, and I
- 53:11Speaker 1: can rotate it and I can kind of point my
- 53:13Speaker 1: simulated a glare at the camera and if I hold
- 53:17Speaker 1: a bit of glass in front of it, and you
- 53:18Speaker 1: can see that whenever I take the bit of glass,
- 53:21Speaker 1: the glare rotates. You see that that line its diagonal.
- 53:25Speaker 1: Now to go. Sorry's so if a camera rotates, a
- 53:29Speaker 1: glare is relative to the orientation of the camera, the
- 53:35Speaker 1: shape of the glass relative to the orientation of the camera.
- 53:38Speaker 1: That will rotate as well. Then you when you when
- 53:40Speaker 1: you de rotate it to get the horizon level, the
- 53:43Speaker 1: glare appears to rotate. And it's just difficult to convey,
- 53:46Speaker 1: as I keep saying. But the reason they keep saying
- 53:49Speaker 1: that is that people when they hear this explanation, they
- 53:53Speaker 1: think that it doesn't make any sense whatsoever. I can't
- 53:55Speaker 1: understand what you're talking about. You know, it's mental gymnastics.
- 53:58Speaker 1: But just because something is a little difficult to convey,
- 54:01Speaker 1: it doesn't mean it's necessarily wrong. If you take the
- 54:03Speaker 1: time to actually look into what's actually going on here,
- 54:06Speaker 1: it does actually make sense as as the most plausible explanation.
- 54:10Speaker 1: So then did a little bit more work, a little
- 54:11Speaker 1: bit more digging here. I looked at the patents for
- 54:13Speaker 1: this camera, the Apler system, and found out that, you know,
- 54:16Speaker 1: it has this this de rotation mechanism to de rotate
- 54:19Speaker 1: images that rotates when the camera rotates, and it actually
- 54:23Speaker 1: specifies in the patent that it needs to do this
- 54:27Speaker 1: gimble correction. It's around plus alinus three degrees or thereabouts,
- 54:32Speaker 1: which is more or less where it's doing it. The
- 54:34Speaker 1: big rotation happens here when you get close to zero degrees.
- 54:36Speaker 1: So again everything kind of aligns up with this, with
- 54:38Speaker 1: this other hypothesis that it is a glare, and it's
- 54:41Speaker 1: kind of essentially confirmed by the fact that the other
- 54:45Speaker 1: light patterns in the scene rotate when the glare rotates,
- 54:48Speaker 1: it exactly the same point in time, and there really
- 54:50Speaker 1: isn't an alternative explanation for that other than the camera rotation.
- 54:54Speaker 1: So what we're seeing here is a hot object with
- 54:57Speaker 1: an artifact giving it this aura, and then we're also
- 55:00Speaker 1: seeing this rotation which comes actually from the rotation of
- 55:03Speaker 1: the camera relative to some screen or some lens in
- 55:06Speaker 1: front of it. Yeah, exactly. But there's even more with
- 55:10Speaker 1: this this video like these, you know, like I said
- 55:12Speaker 1: that it's setive, is simple, and it's easy to look
- 55:14Speaker 1: at them and they go, whoa, it's amazing. That must
- 55:15Speaker 1: be a UFO because it looks like something that's amazing.
- 55:18Speaker 1: But you can dig in even more to this, and
- 55:21Speaker 1: we see again we have the numbers on the screen,
- 55:23Speaker 1: we have the bearing of the object relative to the
- 55:26Speaker 1: front of the plane, and it can narrows down. So
- 55:28Speaker 1: it starts out we're looking out of the left window
- 55:31Speaker 1: again at this this this object, and then we turned
- 55:33Speaker 1: around into a looking more straight on at it, and
- 55:36Speaker 1: you notice the motion of the object. It looks like
- 55:39Speaker 1: it's whizziting across the top of the cloud. But then
- 55:42Speaker 1: later it seems to slow down and almost stop, and
- 55:45Speaker 1: that coincides with you the plane that's following it turn
- 55:48Speaker 1: around so it's facing it. So I think, again, what
- 55:50Speaker 1: we're seeing is parallax movement. And you can again do
- 55:53Speaker 1: the mess. You can see where these objects might be
- 55:56Speaker 1: and how far away they're moving, and just it doesn't
- 55:59Speaker 1: actually take very much to create a solution of parallax.
- 56:02Speaker 1: So the claim that it's flying along and stops and
- 56:05Speaker 1: then rotates, it doesn't really hold up when you investigate it.
- 56:09Speaker 1: It seems like something that's simply flying away from us,
- 56:12Speaker 1: like another jet or a drone or something like that,
- 56:15Speaker 1: or you know, perhaps an alien spaceship. But it's something
- 56:18Speaker 1: that's flying away from us that it's hot. We are
- 56:21Speaker 1: looking at it from the side, and we turn around
- 56:23Speaker 1: to face it, and we get this illusion of parallax.
- 56:26Speaker 1: And then when the camera has to do is gimbal
- 56:28Speaker 1: role correction, we get this illusion that the object is rotating.
- 56:31Speaker 1: And I think that's that's what we're seeing. It doesn't
- 56:34Speaker 1: identify what the object actually is. That, like I said,
- 56:37Speaker 1: it could still be an alien spaceship, but it does
- 56:40Speaker 1: mean all these claims that people have made about it
- 56:43Speaker 1: do not hold up to scrutiny. There's nothing amazing being
- 56:47Speaker 1: demonstrated here. It's not hovering on its end, it's not
- 56:50Speaker 1: got a glowing order of warping space around it, and
- 56:54Speaker 1: it's not covering, it's not stopping. It's just something that's
- 56:57Speaker 1: basically just flying away and it's hot. So it's not
- 57:00Speaker 1: that we can tell what it is that we can
- 57:01Speaker 1: say that is or is not an alien, But the
- 57:03Speaker 1: things that have brought it to our attention it seemed
- 57:05Speaker 1: weird and seemed difficult to explain, are actually possible to
- 57:09Speaker 1: explain with much more prosaic theories. Yeah, so we have
- 57:12Speaker 1: unidentified object, but we don't have an unidentified amazing object.
- 57:17Speaker 1: It's real, but it's not spectacular. Right, there's a whole
- 57:20Speaker 1: other acronym. All right, I want to talk about the
- 57:22Speaker 1: newer three videos, but first let's take another short break.
- 57:38Speaker 1: All right, we're back and we're talking with Mick West.
- 57:40Speaker 1: He was giving us a detailed accounting of his understanding
- 57:42Speaker 1: of what's going on. In these apparent UFO videos, these
- 57:46Speaker 1: U A P videos that were released by the Navy,
- 57:48Speaker 1: a lot of people are talking about is potentially credible
- 57:51Speaker 1: evidence for visiting extraterrestrials. And Nick is talking to us
- 57:55Speaker 1: about how he analyzed these videos and what he thinks
- 57:58Speaker 1: they might possibly mean. So we talked about the three
- 58:00Speaker 1: older videos. Tell us what you think about these more
- 58:02Speaker 1: recent videos, the ones that came out in two, Flying
- 58:05Speaker 1: Triangle and the zig Zagging Submersible spear. Tell us about
- 58:09Speaker 1: the well, the Flying Triangle one, I think is the
- 58:11Speaker 1: most entertaining one. It looks very impressive, like you see
- 58:15Speaker 1: this screen triangle. Night What we're looking at here is
- 58:17Speaker 1: night vision, which is different to infrared. Most of the
- 58:20Speaker 1: other videos are are infrared cameras. This is a night
- 58:24Speaker 1: vision camera, and so what's the difference. The night vision
- 58:27Speaker 1: is image intensification. So it takes what you can see
- 58:32Speaker 1: be in very faint light and it magnifies the light.
- 58:35Speaker 1: It has this intense multipliitube. When photons come in, it
- 58:40Speaker 1: creates a cascade of electrons and it creates a dot
- 58:44Speaker 1: on the screen on the other side, So you get
- 58:46Speaker 1: a much more powerful signal from just essentially individual photons
- 58:50Speaker 1: that creates an image that it's it's it's night vision
- 58:53Speaker 1: is commonly used by troops and they have one attached
- 58:56Speaker 1: the helmet that I mean, they flip it down and
- 58:58Speaker 1: then they go out into a bill holding or whatever.
- 59:00Speaker 1: It does need a little bit of light. Sometimes this
- 59:03Speaker 1: supplements it with a short wave infrared light, like a
- 59:06Speaker 1: little intra red flashlight, which adds to the amount of
- 59:10Speaker 1: a visible light which is visible and infrared spectrum. But
- 59:12Speaker 1: it's not a thermal camera. It's not a thermal infrared camera,
- 59:14Speaker 1: so it's a different type of thing. We're not seeing
- 59:16Speaker 1: heat sources. We're seeing actual lights here, so that the
- 59:21Speaker 1: analysis has to be very different because of that. So
- 59:24Speaker 1: we see a flying triangle and it's you know, it's
- 59:28Speaker 1: this little green thing and it moves across what looks
- 59:30Speaker 1: like stars, but actually a lot of what you're seeing
- 59:33Speaker 1: on screen is not stars. The little points of light
- 59:35Speaker 1: you see on screen, or what's called scintillation, is just
- 59:38Speaker 1: kind of random electrons inside the multiplieritube in the image
- 59:41Speaker 1: intensive fire, So we're not actually seeing a triangle moving
- 59:45Speaker 1: across the staffield that's that's visible in this in these
- 59:48Speaker 1: these things, so we see a triangle, and the first
- 59:50Speaker 1: thing I noticed about it was that it was flashing,
- 59:53Speaker 1: and it was flashing in a way that very closely
- 59:56Speaker 1: resembled the flashing lights of a plane. And I thought,
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: you know, if it's this is an alien UFO or
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: some kind of Chinese enemy drone that's trying to sell
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: the attack or whatever it's supposed to be, why does
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: they have standard navigation lights? So then I looked up
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: the rough location of where that ship was. It's the
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: US sr US All and they released the log book
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: of it, or it came out with a Freedom of
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: Information Act request and we know where it was. And
- 1:00:24Speaker 1: it's just kind of off the coast between San Diego
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: and Los Angeles, just going to south of Catalina Island,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: and that's right on the fly path of planes coming
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: in towards L A. X And Airport. So there was
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: a whole bunch of planes just flying over roughly at
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: that time. So I thought, you know, it's flashing like
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: a plane. It's in a location where planes fly overhead.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: Could it be that it was a plane? And you know,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: obviously it doesn't look like a plane. It looks like
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: a triangle, like a flying triangle. And the whole triangle flashes.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: But again I kind of realized what might be going
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: on here just simply from past experience, because I've seen
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: many videos and I thought, you know, maybe it's just
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: a little bit out of focus on. What we're seeing
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: here is what's called boki, which is the shape that
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: a point of light takes when it's out of focus
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: if you take a picture. This is something you see
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: in portraits a lot. So take a picture of a
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: person and behind them there's some lights, like like a
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: Christmas tree or something like that, or a little point
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: lights you see in YouTube videos as well. People wantn't
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: have very lights behind them, and then they're out of
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: focus and you'll generally see around shape around them. Sometimes
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: you will see an octonal shape or a hexagonal shape.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: And what you're seeing there is the shape of the
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: aperture of the lens. Like if you take a typical
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: lens like like this one here is it's just a
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: regular camera lens, and you look at the interior of it,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: you can see it's gonna round his shape. This one's
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: actually an octagon, and it's gonna blurry in this this video,
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: but you can see the shape of that and that's
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: the shape of the point of light takes. But if
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: you have a lens that has a triangular aperture, then
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: when you look through that and take pictures with that
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: that I'd been out of focus, then the lights will
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: show up as little triangles. So my hypothesis there was
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: that this is in fact a plane. This has just
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: a bit out of focus. The flashing is the flashing
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: lights of the plane, and it's a triangular shape because
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: of the triangular aperture of the camera that he's taking
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: this video. So then you know, I've come up with
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: this immediate hypothesism, like ten minutes to come up with this,
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: because you know, just kind of recognized the type of
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: things I'm looking at. I've got to try to find
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: more evidence for this. So going back to the very
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: start of the video, you see some dots in the distance,
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: and then originally I thought these were distant planes flying
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: towards the boat, with somebody else pointed out that these
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: actually were stars. And you can tell that the stars
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: because they match the constellation of those particular stars. This
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: one start called I think arc tourists. And then there
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: is the planet Jupiter, and Jupiter of course moves through
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: the sky is not in a fixed place. So we
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: took the actual data the incident nineteen saw what Jupiter
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: was relative to these stars, and it's an exactly that spot,
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: so we know exactly what we're looking at that court
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: part of the video. Now at that part of the
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: video is not zoomed in, so we can't see the
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: triangular shape of these things. There's there are only a
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: few pixels. This is very very low resolution video. But
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: what we can do is we can take this position
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: of where these stars are and then kind of move
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: the camera because you can see moving relative to the
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: clouds that appear, and so you can track where it
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: is and then where it ends up at at the
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: end of this video where you see this this flashing triangle,
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: and then you notice at the end of the video
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: there's two other triangles appear, one above the other, two
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: other faint triangles, and the fliers past them. And the
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: people meant who made claims about this video claim that
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: these are the two triangles, were two other drones or
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: alien spaceships or whatever they were to other U a
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: p s. But I did this this tracking of the
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: position of the camera across the sky, and it turns
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: out if you start with these stars over here and
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: you end up over here, there's two stars right in
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: that position where these two supposed you U A P
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: S actually are. So we know now that these two
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: lights are actually stars, but these two lights appear as triangles.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: The only way that can happen is if they are
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: triangular booky, so that essentially it's kind of paste close
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: that there's there's nothing else that could possibly be other
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: than triangles created by the tremblor. But you know, you
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: didn't stop there. Of course, we keep going try to
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: find more evidence that people say, well, the standard night
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: vision binocular that they're using the Army, the PDS four team,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: doesn't have a triangular aperture. So I theorized that maybe
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: that the sometimes people actually change the aperture of the
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: lens cap to have less light coming in. If you're
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: in a situation where you've got quite a bit of light,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: you know, a fairly well liest situation, you can actually
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: have too much light and you don't need it, and
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: you can reduce this this aperture in front and get
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: better focused. Smaller aperture is better focused. That was a
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: little bit of a long shot, but Luckily happened then,
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: was that somebody on my forum Meta Bunk looked at
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: his night vision min ocular they just happened to have,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: and he saw that it had a triangular aperture. So
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: he took his night vision milecular out and started filming
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: stars and planes going by, and it looked exactly the same.
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Everything was exactly the same. We had the scintillation, we
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: had the stars, we had the planes flashing, we had
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: the same size, the exact same size triangle. So he
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: did that, and you made some videos and that kind
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: of explained this to people, and I think that explanation
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: is largely taken hold of other people have found the
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: night vision mile oculars had these triangular apertures, and they've
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: gone out and repeat it exactly the same people who
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: were once skeptics. They were like, oh no, that couldn't
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: possibly happen, and then they were like, oh wait, let
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: me look at person, and they take the video and yeah,
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: it all lines up. And then, maybe most convincingly, though,
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: you're seeing objects in this particular video which you know
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: are point sources, these stars in Jupiter which are appearing
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: as triangle, So you know that the triangle shape in
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: this video even though you don't have your hands and
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: that actually monocular are artifacts, and so then and then
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: you additionally reproduced this using similar equipment in other videos.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: So that seems pretty clear that it's it's not a
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: strong case for a flying pyramid. And yeah, the people
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: who released this video are kind of still clinging onto
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: the possibility that he might be something something amazing. I
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: think they just kind of don't want to let go
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: of this this idea. And you know, there's there's a
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: small amount of justification to it. If this is a
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: video that is part of the UAP Task Forces investigation,
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: which according to the Navy it actually is, then you've
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: got to say, why didn't the Navy figure this out?
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: And to which the answer is maybe they have. Maybe
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: they have figured it out, but at the time this
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: might have been something that seems to be unidentified, especially
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: to the person who took this. This thing like this,
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: So this guy is he's not a vision minoculars on deck.
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: He see some flashing lights overhead, Actually intact, he's not.
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: He doesn't even see that. He's looking at the Jupiter
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: and then it's just around for the clouds. And then
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: you noticed this there's little flashing lights up there, and
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: he goes, oh my god, it's triangular shapes. What's going on?
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: And so he films it for a while and it disappears.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: He gets his his camera out in his filming it
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: through the night vision mile ocular and then he makes
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: the report and says, I saw a triangular shaped craft
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: flying over the ship. And initially it becomes this unidentified
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: events and they don't know what's going on. But later
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: I think anybody with any technical chops who actually looks
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: at this video will figure out what it is. And
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: it wasn't just me. Other people came to it immediately
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: the same conclusion. Other people completely independently of me, went
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: out and took a video with the night vision mile
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: oculars with triangular apertures, and all came to the same conclusion.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: So I think, yes, the Navy would have figured out
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: what it is. And perhaps they have another releasing a
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: report in just a few days on their analysis of it.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: So we'll see what they say. But tell us quickly
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: about this last video. This zig zagging submersible sphere, the
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: zig zagging submersible sphere, it doesn't zigzag again. What we're
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: seeing here is camera movement. And this is something that's
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: even more apparent than the Flair video. You see a
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: dark shape again, it's black his heart. So we're looking
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: at something that's hot. It could well be a glare.
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: Anybody probably is a glare. But it looks at the
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: first leg it is zips over to the left, and
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: the zips over to the right, and a zips there
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: is a left episode in the right. What's happening there
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: is there's somebody in the ship with a little joystick
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: who is moving the camera trying to get a lock
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: on this this shape, and it's getting a visual lock
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: on the shape of the camera. Just it's kind of
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: like when you do motion tracking in ABE after effects
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: or somebody say, like track this objects. All he's trying
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: to do, basically, is to get the cursor around this object.
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: So he's moving at election right from right, So the
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: object itself isn't moving a left and right. It's moving
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: at the constant velocity, which could be hardly moving at all,
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: because we don't know what the relative speed of the
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: ship is or what we're seeing on the ocean surfaces
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: that the motion of the ocean, or is that the
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: motion of the waves and the wind that gives an
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: illusion of motion, so we're not seeing something very rapidly moving.
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: But then it appears to kind of drop down to
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: the ocean and disappear into the ocean. And people have
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: suggested that this is what they call a transmedium craft,
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: like it's it flies in the air and then it
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: flies in the ocean. And you know, for a start,
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: like when we're looking at something that's descending increatively slowly,
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: it's very slowly down to the ocean, and then it
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: kind of disappears. And if you look at what actually
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: happens when it disappears, that's really interesting. You zoom in
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: and go frame by frame. It doesn't like go behind something.
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: It's not like you know, it's like a round object.
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: Going behind something would be like you see half of
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: it when it's half behind it and it disappears. What
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: it appears to do is it appears to shrink into
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: like a little point and disappear. Now that would happen
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: if it was a glare and instead of going into
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: the ocean, it was actually just disappearing behind the horizon.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: You know, the Earth, this is a sphere. So when
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: we look out over the ocean, the horizon is kind
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: of like a very shallow hill. So something's are away
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: and goes down below that, it will disappear, and it
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: will disappear by shrinking. If it's a glare, like if
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: I have a glare. Again, if you shine a light
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: at the camera and moving down behind something you don't
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: see it like being cutting half, you will see it
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: actually shrink. It stays the same shape and shrinks right,
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: and it shrinks, And this is exactly what we see
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: in the video. In fact, we see it disappear and
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: then can pop up a little bit and then the
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: spear again. So I think the most likely explanation to
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: that I haven't identified it, but the explanation for this
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: strange behavior is that it's disappearing behind the horizon, and
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: we're seeing it being obscured by way. It's just on
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: the horizon. They're going up and down, so you see
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: it disappear and then briefly appear behind a wave and
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: then then disappear again. So it could be as something
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: like a distant plane or some kind of craft flying
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: away from the camera, and it could be tens of
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: miles away, maybe even a hundred miles away, and it's
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: descending because it's getting further away, and so it gets
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: closer to the horizon. And then when it gets to
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: the horizon, it's not actually in the water. It's just
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: very very far away. It gets obscured by the waves,
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: and then eventually it's lost from site. I don't know
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: what's actually going on, but it doesn't seem to exhibit
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: it's not zigzagging, and it's not exhibiting any apparent trans
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: medium activity. It doesn't necessarily look like an alien flying submarine.
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: That's right, you know. It looks like a slow moving
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: heat source that disappears behind the horizon. All right, so
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: thank you very much for telling us about all of
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: those videos. Let me ask you a more hypothetical question now,
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: which is, can you imagine a scenario where you see
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: a video that you think is consistent with, you know,
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: some sort of unexplained extraterrestrial craft. What would it take
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: to convince you that what you're looking at can't be
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: explained by you know, other more prosaic theories. Well, this
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: kind too fast to that. So one is like, if
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: you see a video of something that's really amazing, you
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: don't know if it's aliens or if it's humans, because
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: someone's could have invented some new technology. But let's say
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: you know, what would be the video evidence of something
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: that amazing and she was an amazing technology like a
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: warp drive or anti gravity or something like that. And
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: I think that the evidence you need there is independently
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: measured things from two positions, essentially, so with video, like
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: having two videos taken by two different people of the
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: same thing from known locations with known cameras, so you
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: can then triangulate what's going on so that you can
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: actually see it is actually making this particular sac of
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: motion in three dimensions. So when you're looking at something
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: in two dimensions, you don't know if something is is
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: small or far away, and you don't know if what
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: you're seeing is some kind of optical effect in this camera.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: If you have two videos, that eliminates a lot of
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: that possible confusion and you can see it it is
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: actually moving. And if you have more video, that's even better.
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: And then on top of that, if you have radar data,
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: that's going to be great too as well. So you
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: know multiple readings of the same exact event, not you
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: know things that happened roughly at the same time, but
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: the same exact thing doing something amazing would demonstrate it
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: that it was actually doing something amazing. And so when
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: you take one of these videos and you find another
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: explanations and it makes sense to you that doesn't require
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: invoking aliens, what do you feel. Do you feel like, ah, ha,
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: I cracked a puzzle. This is super fun, or do
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: you feel, oh, that's too bad. I was kind of
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: hoping this might be aliens or some combination. Well, I
- 1:13:19Speaker 1: always hope it might be aliens, but I don't have
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: very high hopes, so I don't have great expectations that
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: are being aliens. If if it did turn out to
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: be something amazing, it would it would be flabergasta and
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: it would be totally amazing. So usually when I figured
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: something out, it's just like figure it out, no, no, no,
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: I solved the puzzle, because that's what it is for me.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: A lot of the time is if you're trying to
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: figure out the puzzle, so there are all these little clues,
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: you know, the things I talked about in these videos.
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: Sometimes you're looking at like ten fifteen different little clues
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: in the video, and once you figure it out and
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: you know you're you're beating other people to figure it out.
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: That's kind of a fun thing too, because it's a
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: little bit of competitiveness in it, because we're all trying
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: to solve these things. We'll trying to figure out what
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: they are, and if you managed to do it, it's
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: fun little feather in your cap. Well, that's what we're
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: all trying to do in sciences and for the true
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: nature of the universe. Based on the pieces of evidence
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: we have, it's all just one big detective story. So
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: let me ask you a non scientific question, since we
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: obviously don't have evidence one way or the other, do
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: you have a personal feeling for whether there are extraterrestrial
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: civilizations out there in the galaxy? Well, my personal feeling
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: is just I think, similar to most people, that the
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: universe is so big that it almost seems inevitable that
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: then must be some kind of life out there. I mean, sure,
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: maybe we are the first life to arise in the universe,
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: but I think given the size of the universe, it
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: seems fairly likely that some kind of civilization has risen.
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: You know, maybe not very very complicated, but you know,
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: I'm sure there's self replicating organisms elsewhere in the universe,
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: but you know, civilization is a little bit more complicated
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: than that. But yes, I think it's out there. I
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: just don't think there's any good evidence that they've come
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: visiting anytime recently. Absolutely, I agree. And something that convisits
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: me as well is that we have all these videos,
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: but they are all of totally different kinds of apparent phenomena.
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: If we had like nineteen different videos and they all
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: showed the same kind of ship doing the same kind
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: of trick, that might be tele convincing story, because in
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: the end, what we're looking for is a coherent explanation
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: for everything. Certainly possible that extrass reels have visited and
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: they're sneaking around and were occasionally capturing glimpses of them,
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: But six completely different kinds of aliens, flying completely different
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: kinds of ships that can do six completely different things.
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: That's a little harder to swallow. Yeah. Here we have
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: like a we have a flying take tack, We have
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: a hovering flying source of top type thing, and we
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: have a flying cold object actually other ones that are
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: all hot, and then we have a flying flashing triangle,
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: and then we have a flying hot sphere that des
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: sends into the ocean, so that, yeah, why don't we
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: have two videos, even even at seferent times, to just
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: to show the exact same amazing thing. And that's too
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: bad because I personally would love if aliens came to
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: visit and could help us unravel some of these secrets
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: of the universe. And I hope that if they do,
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: they don't hide and then to sneak around, they just
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: you know, land on the White House lawn and start
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: to talk to us. All right, well, thank you very
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: much macke for sharing with us your experience and your
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: expertise and walking through the details of these videos. They
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: are interesting. The videos themselves are amazing, but it may
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: be that they don't show actually amazing craft. Thank you
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: very much for having me love very interesting topic and
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: I love talking about it, all right. Thanks again, and
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: thank you everybody out there who stuck with us for
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: this long and very detailed, but I think illuminating podcast
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: episode about something that has tickled all of us. Thanks
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: everyone for tuning in, Thanks for listening, and remember that
