Latest / Mom Street USA / 129. The Perfect Disney Date Night (Hub Episode)
Transcript
- 0:05Welcome everybody to another episode of Mobster USAI am your
- 0:08host Jackie, and today you are in for a treat.
- 0:11We've got another hub episode where our good friends Duck and
- 0:14Jess have joined us to chat more things about Disney and we're
- 0:17actually talking about Disney this week.
- 0:19Normally when Duck and Jess join us, we talk Universal, but we
- 0:23are talking Disney today and today's topic of choice is
- 0:27Disney World date night. So we are going going to dive
- 0:30into some of our suggestions for either kid free date night if
- 0:36you are so lucky or a date night that maybe does include your
- 0:39kids or your whole family. So that is the goal for today.
- 0:43But before we jump into our info, Duck and Jess, how are you
- 0:46doing? Doing great, can't complain.
- 0:49I love it. All right, well, let's go ahead
- 0:51and hop in because I'm excited to hear what you guys have to
- 0:54share about Disney date night, because this is unfortunately
- 0:58not something that I get to do very often because I have
- 1:01children and yeah. You know what, I feel like
- 1:06that's generally true. I feel like a lot of listeners
- 1:09of the pod and also just people who are going down to Disney in
- 1:12general. People don't build in like date
- 1:15night time, which is totally understandable, right?
- 1:17Sometimes it just doesn't fit. Sometimes this is your once in a
- 1:20lifetime trip and you don't want to take away from, you know,
- 1:23park time or something like that.
- 1:25But if you are a regular or maybe you're going for a longer
- 1:28period of time, you know, it's a vacation still, right?
- 1:32I think it's hard to remember that sometimes because Disney
- 1:34can get so busy and so overwhelming and you're planning
- 1:38lightning lanes and in park dining reservations and you got
- 1:41to go, go, go and you got to make sure that you do and see
- 1:45and be everything right. So, you know, we like to, we
- 1:48like to remind people that it's important to, as fun as the
- 1:51parks are, it's also important to slow down, take your time and
- 1:55enjoy it because after, after all, it's, it's still a
- 1:57vacation, even though sometimes it feels a little bit like it.
- 1:59That's a job, you know. Absolutely.
- 2:02Absolutely. And it's funny because I was
- 2:04talking to Andrew before I jumped on and I was like, hey,
- 2:08what if you were like going to plan a date night, what would
- 2:11you do? And he was like, what is that
- 2:14like? What it like like?
- 2:15What? What?
- 2:16No, that is not in something. He's brain buffered.
- 2:19Yeah. He literally was like, what do
- 2:20you, what do you mean a date, a date night, Like it at Disney,
- 2:23like without the kids. And I was like, yeah, you know,
- 2:25like we used to do, you know, 10 plus years ago before we had
- 2:29children because our oldest is turning 10 soon, which is wild.
- 2:35Yeah. So we'll we'll get into that
- 2:37later. But let's jump into your
- 2:41suggestions for Disney date nights.
- 2:45Absolutely. And so before we jump into the
- 2:48list of suggestions that we have, I do just want to note
- 2:51that like I said before, this is focusing on not park activities,
- 2:56right? Some of these suggestions may
- 2:58take place in the park, but this isn't like anyway, you're going
- 3:02to wolf down some chicken fingers and then try to Sprint
- 3:05over to Guardians of the Galaxy while holding your spouse's
- 3:07hand, right? Like that's not, not of what
- 3:10these vibes are not a date. That's not I mean, for us it is,
- 3:13but I understand if it's not for other people.
- 3:16So, you know, if you this is these are intended to slow down,
- 3:21enjoy some shopping, enjoy some dinner, some drinks, things like
- 3:25that. And also, Jackie, as you alluded
- 3:28to, we tried to build itineraries that were both for
- 3:31people who do not have children with them on the trip or who
- 3:35maybe can get reliable child care through one form or
- 3:38another, as well as people who are or people with kids and
- 3:42without kids basically. So we've tried to keep it a
- 3:44little bit flexible. We built some itineraries.
- 3:47Take pieces as you can because again, it's not always so easy
- 3:51to to build these things in, but you're on vacation so it's
- 3:54important to slow down and to enjoy yourself.
- 3:57Yes. All right.
- 3:58So I think we're going to talk about in parks first, right?
- 4:02Yes. Yep.
- 4:02So we're going to jump right into the in park so this one can
- 4:06be done with and without children because it's not only
- 4:10super easy to find somebody to watch your kids in general, let
- 4:14alone on vacation. Right.
- 4:16And I do want to say that there are groups and organizations and
- 4:21companies that exist down in Orlando that can help parents
- 4:26with child care, in park nannies, babysitters while
- 4:29you're on vacation. We are not here to like, promote
- 4:33or denounce any of these organizations.
- 4:36We just simply want to state that on both sides of that
- 4:40decision, like trust your gut as a parent, you know what I mean?
- 4:45If you're not comfortable with the idea of using one of these
- 4:47services, then don't use it. And figure out another way to do
- 4:51your quote UN quote, date night and include your kiddos or
- 4:55figure out a way to, you know, be next to them, but not with, I
- 5:01don't know, you know, be creative.
- 5:02We're going to give you some of us tonight on how to do that.
- 5:06That's what you got to do as a parent and truly, and, you know,
- 5:09if you're fortunate enough to go with extended family, you know,
- 5:12maybe you can plan in advance that, you know, a friend or
- 5:15family member can watch the kiddos, things like that.
- 5:18But yeah, those services do exist.
- 5:21And again, use your best judgement.
- 5:24You know, we would never tell people what to do necessarily as
- 5:27parents with those types of decisions.
- 5:29Right. And I think too, something to
- 5:31remember is like, don't, don't go against your gut because then
- 5:35it's going to ruin your night. Like, I hate that, you know what
- 5:38I mean. But like, if you are like, I
- 5:40don't really want to do this, but you know, my spouse wants me
- 5:43to or my friend wants me to, or they said it, you know, my
- 5:46Internet friend said it would be fine, but I don't really love
- 5:49the idea of doing it. Then don't do it because you're
- 5:50just going to be worried and consumed by it the whole night.
- 5:54So like go with your gut, go with what you think is the best
- 5:58for your particular situation. And I will say, a lot of the
- 6:02services are easier the older your kiddos get because they
- 6:06have maybe a device that you can leave with them or they're able
- 6:10to, you know, express themselves fully and, and be aware of
- 6:13what's going on and what they can ask to do.
- 6:15And you know, it, it just really depends on your situation, your
- 6:19kiddos and all of that. So just keep all of that in
- 6:22mind. If you choose to use one of
- 6:24those services, fantastic. If you don't want to, also
- 6:27fantastic. You're going to have a great
- 6:29time. You're in Disney World, so like
- 6:31no, got no stress there. At the end of the day, you are
- 6:34still in Disney. World.
- 6:36So true. So true.
- 6:39All right. So with that disclaimer out of
- 6:42the way, so we're going to start, we're going to give like
- 6:45an itinerary more geared towards folks without kids, but give a
- 6:49couple of suggestions for if you do have kids along the way and
- 6:52then a more kid centric 1. So for folks without kids, I
- 6:56feel like the, the obvious answer for park for date night
- 7:00is up guy. I I feel like there is no
- 7:03question on that one. You know, there's just such a
- 7:06variety of dining options and also little trinkets because who
- 7:10doesn't love to buy a little trinket on a date, you know?
- 7:13So it just really lends itself to a fun and romantic evening.
- 7:16So if sit down dining is your preference, you will probably
- 7:20want to try to snag a reservation in advance.
- 7:23Lacellier, which is the steakhouse in Canada, is always
- 7:28a go to recommendation if you've been there during the Food and
- 7:31Wine Festival and you've had the little steak a portion in the
- 7:36Canada Pavilion. It's the same steak that they
- 7:38serve in Sallye, just slightly less on mass but only slightly.
- 7:44Tepenido is another good sit down restaurant in Japan if that
- 7:47is your vibe. Chefs de France is one that gets
- 7:51commonly recommended but this is one that I have not heard
- 7:54positive things about post pandemic.
- 7:58So you know, listen. I mean that's like a make your
- 8:00judgement call. Whatever will fit with you the
- 8:02rest of your itinerary. But between between the three,
- 8:05we would recommend Lacellier and Tepenido over Chef de France.
- 8:10Now, as I alluded to before, alternatively, there's always
- 8:13festivals in Epcot. So if you don't want to sit
- 8:16down, like if you guys are more like a sampling plate appetizer
- 8:20type of couple, it's food and wine festival.
- 8:23It goes on for like 3/4 of the year.
- 8:25Now it's there's like, and it's their best festival.
- 8:31So I don't know why they don't just make it a full year like
- 8:34whatever. Not to take away from Festival
- 8:36of the Arts or Flo Grow or anything like that because I
- 8:38love all the festivals in Epcot, but they're all basically food
- 8:43and wine festivals with different flair.
- 8:46So there's there's. If like sampling is your vibe,
- 8:49that is also a fantastic date night alternative to just go for
- 8:53a nice walk, stroll around Disney, take in the sights, feel
- 8:57the vibes, and sample a bunch of food from all around the world.
- 9:00Yeah. Now, I know that we're talking
- 9:02primarily about doing Epcot with no kids.
- 9:05However, I do want to just briefly give an an alternative
- 9:10option if you end up with kiddos and you end up wanting to go to
- 9:14Epcot because you're wanting to do the snack around the world
- 9:17option, which I love that option.
- 9:20That's what we usually do anyway.
- 9:21We're at Epcot regardless. Absolutely.
- 9:24This is a great time to take advantage of the scavenger hunts
- 9:29that frequently happen at Epcot. Each festival we've talked about
- 9:33before, but they have a unique one and they're also ones for
- 9:35holidays such as like Easter and Christmas.
- 9:37We'll have different scavenger that you can do.
- 9:39These are great distractions for your kiddos because it will give
- 9:43them something to do so you don't feel like you're super
- 9:46rushed if you're trying to enjoy your food and beverage.
- 9:49So highly recommend setting that up and getting that kind of
- 9:53going if you are going to be snacking around the world and
- 9:57your kiddos are going to end up with you.
- 10:00Alternatively, if you don't want to do the scavenger hunt,
- 10:02they're like 10 bucks I think to do the scavenger hunt.
- 10:05So if you're like, no, I don't really want to do that.
- 10:07And you have an older kiddo that is like tech savvy enough to to
- 10:11navigate basic phone. Communication rolls or tech?
- 10:19My my 9 year old could probably, my 7 year old could probably
- 10:22not. So like, you know, depending on
- 10:24your kiddo and depending on your their, their, their ability to
- 10:29screen, you can give them a device and send them off to do
- 10:33the DuckTales adventure in on the Play Disney app.
- 10:36So that is a really great option as well.
- 10:40And it will the phone. The reason I say tech savvy is
- 10:43because you have to have the Play Disney app downloaded to be
- 10:46able to load it. It's not in every country.
- 10:49I think there's five countries if I remember correctly that
- 10:52have the DuckTales adventure, but they can be doing that
- 10:55within your site as you are standing and enjoying your food.
- 10:59So even if it's not something that you're comfortable, like
- 11:02sending them off on their own to do it and come back.
- 11:04There are many of the countries you can stand kind of at the
- 11:08like entrance to the pavilion if that kind of makes sense and
- 11:11still see them as they are exploring the game.
- 11:13So 2 alternative options if you are choosing the snack around
- 11:17the world, I highly suggest one or the other or both.
- 11:20The Duck Tales is completely free.
- 11:22Highly suggest that it's a super fun activity for them to do so
- 11:25that way you can take all the time you want to enjoying your
- 11:29food and beverage. It's also fun if you're adults
- 11:33and you play a game where the So what we do is it's for food and
- 11:37wine. It's Remy's hide and squeak
- 11:39because that's usually when we're down there.
- 11:41Whoever finds Remy first in that pavilion, the other person has
- 11:44to buy them the snack or treat that they want from that
- 11:47pavilion. I.
- 11:48Love that, that's amazing. That is like top tier date night
- 11:53I love. That I'm just saying, that's
- 11:56also a very fun date night, yeah.
- 11:58Although you got to make sure it's even playing field because
- 12:01like if I tried to do that with Andrew, I feel like he would be
- 12:04very upset with me because he would have no idea where they
- 12:06are. And I've seen them all so often
- 12:08that I like would know immediately because they don't
- 12:11typically change very much year to year.
- 12:14They're usually in the same spot.
- 12:15Every once in a while you get them to mix it up, but generally
- 12:19speaking, they're in the same spot.
- 12:20So I feel like he'd be very sad if I I told him to do that.
- 12:23He'd just be buying all night. Sorry, not sorry, exhorted.
- 12:32Strategy. Let him win like one or two.
- 12:38Give him that false sense of security in the game we're
- 12:41playing and then. Destroy him.
- 12:44Be like, I can't believe you found the first two.
- 12:46Anyway, here's the next 7. He'd be like what?
- 12:52OK, it'd be fine. Most of our money comes from the
- 12:56same account anyway. It really, truly doesn't matter.
- 12:58Anyway, moving on. That's yeah, that's pretty true.
- 13:01All right, so once you have your dinner plan set, be that just
- 13:06snack here in the world or your sit down dinner, we always
- 13:10recommend try to find a memorable souvenir right now
- 13:13that can be something big or something small.
- 13:16A couple of we have a couple of suggestions.
- 13:18So I'm a big fragrance person. I love perfumes and body sprays,
- 13:23colognes. I love it all.
- 13:24I have a problematically sized collection just taken over my
- 13:29half of the dresser. So I really like when we go on
- 13:33vacation to buy a scent that I will then wear for the rest of
- 13:38the vacation and whenever we go back to that location.
- 13:41So that I will always have like that scent Marie of that perfume
- 13:45that I was wearing while we were there.
- 13:46So that's a really fun, if that's like your GM too.
- 13:49There's plenty of perfume shops all around the World Showcase.
- 13:53So in the UK pavilion there is a company called Penhallions that
- 13:58has a small stand and I believe it's called Lords and Ladies.
- 14:02If you've ever seen perfume bottles with an animal head on
- 14:04it, they're like super trendy right now.
- 14:06It's Penhallions. There is a bunch of, like I
- 14:10said, a bunch of other locations. 2 ones that we
- 14:13usually stop into are the in the French in the France pavilion,
- 14:20there's a few shops in there that sell French designer
- 14:24perfumes, things like Dior and Givenchy.
- 14:26And then in the Italy pavilion, it's the same idea where they
- 14:29sell Italian designer perfumes, so like Aqua de Parma and
- 14:33Valentino. I had no.
- 14:35Idea and no idea, and there weren't.
- 14:37That many fancy perfumes at Epcot?
- 14:40Who knew? There are some and like.
- 14:43Even Norway has, yes. Norway had a little perfume
- 14:47section too, yeah. Yeah, in the in the gift shop,
- 14:49most of the pavilions have like a a small selection, but the UK
- 14:58has pen the whole pen high in section.
- 14:59Like I was saying, I think they have another brand in there too
- 15:02now. I can't remember what it was.
- 15:04And of course, because Italy and France have like so many
- 15:08designer brands out of there, it makes sense that they have just
- 15:11like small displays for every brand.
- 15:13But they have like I, I was looking at the website just to
- 15:16double check. I think there's something like
- 15:18over 70 different brands in the France pavilion.
- 15:21It is a shocking amount of, of perfumes that they have in there
- 15:25and they have plenty of testers. The folks that of course the
- 15:27cast members that work in there are are wonderful and very
- 15:30knowledgeable if you have any questions.
- 15:31That's so cool, I love that idea.
- 15:33Array perfume I'm I'm recruiting more people to the cult of
- 15:36perfume. So if perfumes aren't your gym,
- 15:40but you still want something small and memorable, the Mexico
- 15:44pavilion does have a stand right outside of the cantina where you
- 15:48can get engraved rings. And honestly, who doesn't want
- 15:52to be bought a ring? I'm just saying.
- 15:53I'm just saying it's a very it is a very romantic evening is
- 15:57getting a custom engraved ring. Just saying.
- 16:00And I feel like it's never very busy over there, which is
- 16:03surprising. And it doesn't take very long.
- 16:05Like I took my little, I got nachos from the cantina and
- 16:09like, it was way too packed inside.
- 16:11So I like walked around and I found a little like corner of a
- 16:14bench that was like right by that stand.
- 16:16And like as I was sitting there, I like was watching the guy do
- 16:19it. And he was so fast at it too,
- 16:21that like it really doesn't take very long.
- 16:22I was like, that's super impressive.
- 16:26Yeah, I think the so we haven't gotten it, but I've sat there
- 16:30and watched them do it. The quickest I've seen them do
- 16:33it is like 10 minutes. They say on the site if you look
- 16:36it up, it can be up to two hours, but I've never seen it be
- 16:40more than like 1/2 hour on a on like a real busy day.
- 16:44They're very quick and they're very good at what they do over.
- 16:46There. Yeah, it's super cool.
- 16:48I love that idea too. So once you have your ring and
- 16:52your perfume and you've spent a shocking amount of money on
- 16:56miscellaneous souvenirs from all around Epcot, of course,
- 17:00assuming you're in the park in the evening, you're going to
- 17:02want to watch the fireworks while holding hands, right?
- 17:05Adorable romantic ending to the evening.
- 17:09So we I'm a big dessert person, so we recommend grabbing some
- 17:13ice cream. There is it's artisans.
- 17:15The class in the France pavilion is really good.
- 17:18So, you know, just to have a nice little sweet treat.
- 17:20Will you enjoy twin? Fireworks.
- 17:22I also really love the Gelato booth and the Italy pavilion too
- 17:27highly. Recommend.
- 17:28I always forget that's there. Yeah, well, that's a good.
- 17:31I don't know when it happened that they expanded it because
- 17:33for years and years and years it was just like one of those
- 17:36little tiny carts. And then I just noticed it one
- 17:40of my last trips in the last year or two that I was like, Oh
- 17:43my gosh, it's like a. Full.
- 17:45Like permanent booth now in the Italy pavilion where you get
- 17:48your Gelato. And I was like, I love that for
- 17:50them. That's so good.
- 17:51But yeah, Gelato is, is always a good thing.
- 17:53And I, I like the Gelato because I like that stretch of the, that
- 17:58side of world Showcase to watch the fireworks too, as like the
- 18:03location, because if you can find a spot along the water
- 18:06there, you have a good view of, I like to be able to see
- 18:11spaceship Earth when I watch my fireworks at Epcot.
- 18:14And you can see it because you're far enough around, you
- 18:16know, I just, it's a really good spot for, for fireworks viewing.
- 18:20So I like that it's like within a quick walk.
- 18:23So like you can scope out your spot and then like I can send
- 18:27hubby to go get me Gelato and bring it back to me in our spot
- 18:30while I just like hang out and wait.
- 18:33No, that is a good point. We always, so it's just by
- 18:36nature of the way that we do our Epcot days, we end up over by
- 18:42either the UK Pavilion or Canada for fireworks, right, because
- 18:44we're just spending the whole day going around.
- 18:46So like by the end, we end up there and like, you're right,
- 18:49that is in much better spot to watch the fireworks from.
- 18:52But like, I'm 30,000 steps in. I'm not walking back to the
- 18:55other side of World showcase. It's not happening.
- 18:57But that is also a very good idea.
- 18:59I, I, you know what? Maybe next time we'll plan it so
- 19:01we can get some tasty, tasty Gelato.
- 19:03Because I love me some Gelato. Yeah, you have to actively plan
- 19:06because you're right, it's not. If you're doing a loop and
- 19:10planning to end your loop around fireworks time, it's not
- 19:13convenient. It's not a convenient location.
- 19:16I'm in World Showcase. So you do have to kind of plan
- 19:19accordingly or be willing to walk a couple, you know, a
- 19:22little bit of extra backtracking to get there.
- 19:25So yeah, for sure. All right.
- 19:28So I think that is kind of our general best situation, best
- 19:33suggestions for Epcot with no children.
- 19:37But what if we're stuck with our kids?
- 19:40You. You are suckers.
- 19:42Well, go. Well, leave us alone.
- 19:45What can we do every? 3 seconds they're asking for.
- 19:49Seconds constant. It's just constant.
- 19:51OK, so if we have children with us, what suggestions do you guys
- 19:57have for a quote UN quote date night with our children?
- 20:03Step one, leave them at the loss of better right here I found
- 20:08this. Can you just hang on to it for a
- 20:11little while? I.
- 20:13Found them. I wish for them to be lost.
- 20:16All right? No, but see nicely, please.
- 20:18For legal reasons now. So yeah, please don't.
- 20:21You don't leave your. Children at the lost about or
- 20:25with Guest Services or. Anything.
- 20:27We definitely, if you are doing a Disney date night and you have
- 20:31your kids with you, we would definitely recommend Magic
- 20:33Kingdom because I mean, what else is like the perfect family
- 20:36friendly location in Disney other than Magic Kingdom.
- 20:40So we're going to also give both like a sit down table service
- 20:43like dinner recommendation as well as some quick service
- 20:46options for your NK date night. So right date.
- 20:52Night in quotes because you know, it can still be a date
- 20:54night. It's just a little bit.
- 20:56It's a date. It's not a flip some plus one.
- 20:59Dazzling night. Yeah.
- 21:00Yeah. Yeah, yeah, a a not particularly
- 21:04welcome plus one. It's 3rd, 4th.
- 21:07What fifth wheels? However many kids.
- 21:08Yeah, I know. But so we kind of find the table
- 21:13service in Magic Kingdom is like kind of hit or miss, but we've
- 21:18definitely heard some really great things about Skipper
- 21:20Cantonier. So that would be a suggestion.
- 21:23But if you're looking for more like romantic date nighty kind
- 21:25of vibes, I mean, what's more romantic than eating dinner at a
- 21:28castle? So they are a little pricier,
- 21:30but you can always go for Be Our Guest or Cinderella's Royal
- 21:33Table, not necessarily for like a higher food experience, but
- 21:37more for the the vibes and the aesthetics and getting to, you
- 21:40know, dine in Cinderella's Castle or the Beast Castle.
- 21:45And we've also heard or at least I've heard, I don't know about
- 21:47anybody else, but that Tony's Town square has gotten a lot
- 21:49better like post COVID. So we have not tried it in
- 21:54recent years. So I cannot confirm or deny
- 21:57that. But that is just the word on the
- 21:59street. So that might be nice.
- 22:00A little like Italian dinner for you and your family for your
- 22:02little date night. So.
- 22:04That is a consistent thing that I have heard and not as
- 22:07surprising because I feel like the constant feedback is post
- 22:10COVID XY and Z has gotten worse. Right.
- 22:13And because I'm better, like shockingly, everyone's like, I
- 22:17can't, I can't believe it was the same food, like the same
- 22:20restaurant. Like people are just blown away
- 22:22by how different and how much better Tony's is.
- 22:24So I mean it seems it used to be like joke to recommend Sony's,
- 22:29but it seems like. An actual viable action
- 22:31recommendation, Yeah. So, yeah, who knew, Grandpa?
- 22:38Who knew? But if you are just looking for
- 22:40like a quick service option, we kind of like Pinocchio Village
- 22:44House. I feel like it has like
- 22:45something for everybody. You can get your classic chicken
- 22:47fingers if you have those picky eaters, but then there's also
- 22:50like their flatbreads and you know, different things like
- 22:52that. Plus you, if you are lucky, you
- 22:54can get a really great view of the boats and small world while
- 22:57you're eating. So that's kind of a nice view
- 22:58with your dinner, dinner on a show, dinner on a show.
- 23:01Exactly. If you're a Small world fan, I
- 23:03don't know, that wouldn't necessarily be Duck's idea, but
- 23:05the date night. But I got my flatbread.
- 23:07Pizza, it's fine and then. Also, if you wanted, you can
- 23:13enjoy the views of Cinderella Castle while eating at Casey's
- 23:17Corner. They always have like seasonal
- 23:19corn dog Nuggets and things like that.
- 23:21So there's always, you know, something fun to try there, and
- 23:23it's something fun for the kiddos, but then also something
- 23:26fun for you as well. Yeah, I'd like to add Pecos Bill
- 23:29to that list too. I think they they're new.
- 23:32I put new in quotes 'cause it's like new menu, but like it's
- 23:35been new for, I don't know, maybe a year now.
- 23:39I don't know. Time is fake.
- 23:41I have no idea when that happened, but they're good with
- 23:44me. I.
- 23:45Was right, literally their new menu is really, really good.
- 23:50So I would definitely look at that.
- 23:51It's more of like a Mexican kind of like Chipotle style because
- 23:55I've got a lot of like bowl theme, like bowl type dishes
- 23:59there. But that would definitely be one
- 24:01that I would consider as well if you're looking for more of a
- 24:05Mexican style vibe. Yeah, I have to say we've really
- 24:09liked Take This Belt. Anytime we've gone there,
- 24:11they're pretty good. There's same service.
- 24:13It seems that we've gotten exceptionally lucky every time
- 24:15that we've went because I've heard some, I I've heard some
- 24:19less than positive things prior to this refurbishment situation.
- 24:23But every I, I think Scottish extraordinarily lucky because
- 24:27every time we went we had like very solid food.
- 24:30We had the same experience as a family.
- 24:32We went a couple times before the menu change and had like we
- 24:37were fine. But yeah, I've also heard
- 24:38previously friends be like, Oh no, I got so sick off of their
- 24:42food. So I was like, we got really
- 24:44lucky. OK, I'm glad we got lucky.
- 24:46But the new men here, I have not heard any any concerns or issues
- 24:49with that. So I think they.
- 24:52Revamping. I've heard very positive things.
- 24:54We've heard no contagious illnesses.
- 24:57Yes, yes. Love that for them, Love that
- 25:01for us. Love that for everybody.
- 25:05Yeah. Perfect.
- 25:06All right, so we've gotten dinner.
- 25:08What are we doing next? We figured out dinner, so now
- 25:11time for souvenirs or fun experiences that you guys want
- 25:14to do as a family. So one thing to do if you're
- 25:17looking for something to splurge on your kiddos for is Bibbidi
- 25:20Bobbi Boutique. What is better on a family fun
- 25:25night than dressing your kids up like a Prince or Princess?
- 25:28Definitely would recommend an appointment there.
- 25:31Yeah. And I will say those can be hard
- 25:33to get. And you, you really need to
- 25:36consider what time you're going to be getting your kiddos stuff
- 25:40done because you really don't want to do it at like 7:00 PM
- 25:43necessarily, unless you know that like, no, their hair like
- 25:50they're not a crazy sleeper. Their hair is going to stay till
- 25:52the next day. We can stretch it and get like a
- 25:55day and a half out of it, you know?
- 25:56So just keep that in mind when you're trying to schedule those
- 25:59appointments. And the other thing to kind of
- 26:02piggyback along with that is whether or not you do Bippity
- 26:05Bobbity Boutique, highly suggest you can splurge on a capture
- 26:09your moment photo pass session. So we've talked about these in
- 26:12other episodes before and they are a 20 minute session for
- 26:17$100. You can have up to 8 people and
- 26:19it is your location of choice in Magic Kingdom.
- 26:21They have a ton of options that you can choose from and they do
- 26:25them all the way until about 4:00 PM.
- 26:27So I know we were talking post dinner.
- 26:29So this May we may need to flip flop that depending on what time
- 26:31you eat dinner or what your schedule looks like.
- 26:35But they do them until about 4:00-ish PM depending on the
- 26:39time of year and availability and all that jazz.
- 26:41So you could do something like your morning in Magic Kingdom if
- 26:45you're in the parks all together and then take a break to like
- 26:48freshen up for your date night and either before or after your
- 26:55kids Bibbidi Bobbidi boutique appointment and then get your
- 26:59family photos done in the park. Just kind of like be a fun
- 27:02little start to your date night before you.
- 27:04I would suggest before you do dinner if you've got your kids
- 27:07with you, just because if you're going to Tony's and they're
- 27:10eating pasta with red sauce, I would do your pictures before.
- 27:16Yeah. That's the good.
- 27:18Going everywhere, right? It's not telling.
- 27:21Yeah, how about a a super fun way to kind of make it a little
- 27:25extra magical night in the parks that feels a little bit more, I
- 27:30don't say elevated because like any night you're in Magic
- 27:33Kingdom is like magical and special and all of that, but
- 27:35just something a little bit extra special if you want to
- 27:38book one of those sessions. And you also you have the option
- 27:42of like extending sessions. So if you really want to splurge
- 27:45and you want to do like back-to-back sessions, all of
- 27:47those options are available through Disney.
- 27:50So, you know, talk to your travel agent or book online or
- 27:52whatever you need to do for that.
- 27:54But I would suggest looking into maybe saving up a little extra
- 27:58to get some cute little family photos done.
- 28:00Yeah. And I think that's also why I
- 28:02kind of like the concept of like a date night or a family night
- 28:05or whatever. Is it just it almost gives you
- 28:08permission to splurge, to splurge a little bit more,
- 28:11right? Yeah.
- 28:12I feel like Disney vacations are already so expensive and, you
- 28:16know, everything's so expensive anymore, right?
- 28:18And so, you know, I think that a lot of people kind of talk
- 28:21themselves out of these other fun extras.
- 28:24But. But if you sort of frame it a
- 28:25little bit differently for yourself and it's still within
- 28:28your ability, maybe if you save a little bit longer or a little
- 28:31bit extra or do one of those like very wonderful Samsung gift
- 28:34card deals, right? Something like that, like if you
- 28:37can swing, you know, framing it is like a family night or a date
- 28:40night really gives you permission and I think will let
- 28:44you enjoy certain aspects or like give you exposure to
- 28:47certain things that you would not have chosen to do for
- 28:50yourself otherwise. Yeah, for sure, for sure.
- 28:53So I love the photo idea. I think, you know, getting to
- 28:56have some memories. We talked about over here on Mom
- 28:58St. that it can be hard as parents to like put yourself in
- 29:01the photos and remember to include yourself in your spouse
- 29:04and or your significant other, your partner in photos.
- 29:06So having a photo pass photographer.
- 29:10What can be better than it takes the guesswork out of it.
- 29:13Exactly, yes. So that's my that's my two cents
- 29:16for that part. So some other ideas for some
- 29:19special souvenirs curtain called collectibles is where you can
- 29:22get ear hats and ears and stuff customized so you can get them
- 29:27embroidered. And that could be a nice special
- 29:29souvenir with maybe like your family's name or something or
- 29:31everybody gets, you know, an ear hat or something with their
- 29:33name. So that is definitely an idea
- 29:37also. I mean, they're available other
- 29:38places in Disney as well, but Magic Kingdom has where you can
- 29:41get the little like silhouette portraits and stuff or like
- 29:44little parasols. So there's a lot of unique
- 29:47little souvenirs and gifts that you can find around Magic
- 29:50Kingdom. I'm sorry for laughing, but we
- 29:51got one of the family dog and the silhouette portraits.
- 29:56So we got one of of Ruby and we have one and my parents have the
- 30:00other one. It's really cute.
- 30:03You can. Princess Ruby has her own.
- 30:05Silhouette, she does. Stop it.
- 30:08I need to see this. I need you to send me a picture.
- 30:10We might have to post that picture.
- 30:12So everybody, Yeah. Absolutely, absolutely.
- 30:15It's the silhouettes are so such affordable souvenirs.
- 30:20It is cheaper than I thought it would be.
- 30:22I think it was like $10 to just do the the actual outline and
- 30:27then I forget how much it was with the frame.
- 30:29It was a little bit more, but like a shockingly and relatively
- 30:32inexpensive souvenir. And they're so cute.
- 30:36I mean, listen, they're precious when they're the kids, but when
- 30:39they're the animals, when they're the family pets, Are you
- 30:43kidding me? It's the cutest thing ever.
- 30:45It's so cute. And they?
- 30:46Can do a lot of those silhouette artists can do like they'll do
- 30:49it off of the photos, right? So like you don't have to take
- 30:51your dog to the park, ticket it, but.
- 30:54Your eyes don't sneak your dog into this new.
- 30:56Princess Ruby would not do well and match the Kingdom.
- 31:00We would. We would be permaban from Disney
- 31:02World, absolutely. So they can absolutely do they
- 31:07can absolutely do photos, just like make sure it's a good like
- 31:12side profile style. So that way they have something
- 31:16to work work off of. But yes, I love, I love that
- 31:19too. I need to get those done for my
- 31:21kids. I I feel like that's like my
- 31:23next trip. I need to make sure that that's
- 31:25that's. There was there was somebody
- 31:28online who did for their kids, like basically they did a family
- 31:32trip every other year. And so they would do the
- 31:35silhouette portraits like every time that they went.
- 31:38And so it was like a cute little growth chart of the kids as they
- 31:40grew up. And then I started, you're
- 31:42crying at the TikTok and I was like, Oh no, that's so cute.
- 31:49I love that. OK, let's move on because we
- 31:53can't. We can't keep going down the
- 31:55sappy, the sappy rabbit hole or I can't.
- 31:58I just, I can't. I can't handle it.
- 32:00Somebody's talking about more shopping.
- 32:02Love shopping? Let's spend money.
- 32:04What else can we spend money on? Yes, if you're looking to spend
- 32:07a lot of money, you can go to Uptown Jewelers.
- 32:10That is basically where you can get any like Pandora bracelets
- 32:13and charms. Any other like higher end
- 32:15jewelry like watches, things like that.
- 32:17Do you need Burke bags? Any any higher end items that
- 32:23you might want? So definitely the place to go if
- 32:25you're looking for something special for your spouse or your.
- 32:27Kids, they have like $30,000 Crystal Castle if you're really
- 32:31feeling crazy. Why?
- 32:33Anything you're looking to splurge on, you can find there
- 32:35so. We call that the fancy Store.
- 32:39Yeah. Yeah, that's where you go in you
- 32:41window shop and then you walk right out.
- 32:43Exactly not true. I have bought you Pandora.
- 32:46I have bought the Pandora charms.
- 32:47That's the top of the budget, yeah.
- 32:49Yeah. And it's like that's like the
- 32:50most affordable items in there, some of the jewelry and.
- 32:55The some of it's on. Yeah.
- 32:57And occasionally you get lucky with the Dooney and Bourke's
- 32:59too. Yeah, it depends on like the
- 33:01material and the pattern. Like those prices will ramp a
- 33:04little bit. But the Dooney and Bourke's are
- 33:05like for a bag, not so bad. Right.
- 33:07Usually I just stare walkingly. You can listen.
- 33:11Hey, you got that haunted man. I got you that Haunted Mansion
- 33:14one from the cast or from that is from?
- 33:16Outlet that. Yeah, they show up occasionally
- 33:19at the outlets. Do you get them?
- 33:21I get them and lounge flies at my outlet sometimes and it's
- 33:24like most of the time they're still not in my price range even
- 33:28though they're like 70% off. So like, Nope, can't do it,
- 33:32still can't afford it. A little wristlet.
- 33:35So it was like, yeah, fully affordable, but.
- 33:38The smaller the bag, the more likely it is to be in my price
- 33:41range. Yes.
- 33:44The more within budget it becomes yes, yes.
- 33:46Exactly. Yes.
- 33:47OK, now that we should cut our shopping.
- 33:50Yep, we spent a lot of money, we've had some good dinner.
- 33:53Now obviously time for sweet treat.
- 33:55So our recommendation, or well, my recommendation is a classic
- 34:00Disney Dole Whip, because who doesn't love a Dole Whip?
- 34:02And I know we said we're not really talking.
- 34:04Well, you're a virgin. So I don't like it.
- 34:06Yeah, don't do bad. You can do the non pineapple
- 34:09ones right? Like they have like orange and
- 34:12some of the other. Flakes, I'll do the orange or
- 34:14actually I'll do a coke float most of the time with chocolate
- 34:17ice cream. It slaps when it's like 112
- 34:19hour. Let me tell you, the Coke float
- 34:22with chocolate ice cream, it's the way to go.
- 34:25Love it. Yeah.
- 34:26Yeah, so if you have someone allergic to pineapple or who
- 34:29doesn't like Dole Whip. Then I like the one that you
- 34:33gave me on that one. But continue stop at Sunshine.
- 34:36Street Terrace on your way to Aloha.
- 34:38I'll get that person. Whatever it is that they would
- 34:41like that is not pineapple flavor.
- 34:43Pick up some Dole Whip and then. I know we're not talking about
- 34:45rides, but the Tiki Worm is technically a show and nothing
- 34:48beats eating a Dole Whip or drinking a Coke float and
- 34:51sitting in the Tiki Room watching the birds.
- 34:53It's healed me. So, you know, those things that
- 34:55are like, turns out I didn't need therapy, I just needed a
- 34:58Disney World trip that like those moments for me occur while
- 35:02I'm drinking a Coke float in the tiki room.
- 35:04Like I'm being so serious. I should also probably attend
- 35:07therapy. But that's like a dear friend
- 35:09conversation. That's like dear friend talk.
- 35:12Yeah, my moment for that is now that I have seen, now that the
- 35:16new Starlight Parade is out, just just give me the parade.
- 35:19Just give me the parade. Yep, that's true.
- 35:21Very fair. That's all I need in life is
- 35:23just just stand wherever in Magic Kingdom that I can see the
- 35:26parade and hear the music and I'm I'm good.
- 35:28I'm good. I'm good for like months after
- 35:31that. Yeah, absolutely.
- 35:33Isn't it crazy with serotonin can do it's wild right it's.
- 35:37Almost like I wish my body would do that naturally and it
- 35:39doesn't. It's fine, OK.
- 35:42This is fine. This is mine.
- 35:45This is mine. OK, Derby got our sweet treat
- 35:48and went to watch the birds in the Tiki room.
- 35:51What else do we suggest? You can also if ice cream,
- 35:56adjacent treats and the tiki room are not your thing.
- 35:59We're really judging you, but you can also.
- 36:01You're wrong. You can also go to the tarot
- 36:04cart. In the hub.
- 36:06Yeah, whatever special future they're offering at the moment.
- 36:08And watch Happily Ever After fireworks with your family while
- 36:12holding your partner's hand, because what could be more
- 36:15romantic than crying to happy labor after?
- 36:17Those like those moments are like what some of these date
- 36:20night, quote UN quote family nightings can be is like photos
- 36:24and just like special little memories and moments.
- 36:27And you know, on our last trip that we took, we my kids like
- 36:33the fireworks. They don't love being like in
- 36:36the hub in the crazy. Like it's, it's very over
- 36:39stimulating. And we were coming off like a 10
- 36:41day long trip. We were very fortunate to have a
- 36:43very long family trip. Last time we went all together
- 36:46and Stevie and her husband were there with us and we all ran to
- 36:52to grab Dole whip. And then we ran over to the
- 36:54boardwalk by in front of Tiana's and stood over there and just
- 36:59like had all the space in the world.
- 37:01And I've got like videos of my daughter, they're just like
- 37:03spinning and dancing to the fireworks.
- 37:07And we're just all like chilling and eating our dollop.
- 37:09And just like moments like that where like they're not
- 37:11necessarily forced, but they're just kind of organic.
- 37:14But you like take the moment to stop and like recognize it in
- 37:18the moment is just like, it's just like the cherry on top of
- 37:24like the best Disney Day, you know?
- 37:27Absolutely. I love it.
- 37:29OK, sorry I'm done being sappy. Now let's talk about what else
- 37:31we can talk about. Date night.
- 37:34I want to be sappy. This is your podcast.
- 37:37If you want to be sappy, you'll be sappy.
- 37:39This is true. This is very true.
- 37:44All right, we have wrapped up our Magic Kingdom, right?
- 37:47I think that was our suggestions for Magic Kingdom.
- 37:49Now that we've all been like crying, OK, let's talk about
- 37:53something completely different. What can we do?
- 37:55What else can we do for date night?
- 37:56Tell us. So this is a retooling of the
- 38:02monorail bar crawl. Honestly, this is this is what
- 38:06sort of was the inspiration here, right of it.
- 38:08So this is built with the solo couple in mind because it really
- 38:13lets you take your time to indulge in a couple of different
- 38:16locations. You could also turn it into a
- 38:18bar crawl at the same time. I'm not here to judge what any
- 38:22what anybody's decisions are, but also like, if you need to, I
- 38:26said this at the top right, like if you just need to take
- 38:28inspiration, shorten it, lengthen it, whatever it may be,
- 38:31you know, if it doesn't fit into your plans, you know, just a
- 38:34just a handful of suggestions. So again, this was inspired by
- 38:37the crawl, the monorail bar crawl.
- 38:40So the obvious place to start is of course, pre dinner drinks.
- 38:46If listen, I know that's like a foreign concept to a lot of
- 38:50parents, but there was a time long ago where in the before
- 38:56sorry, you drink before dinner and this may this may be an
- 39:01option once more On this date night.
- 39:04This is true. The obvious place to suggest to
- 39:08start is of course probably the most famous bar in Disney World.
- 39:12It's Trader Sam's rights in the Poly.
- 39:16Sam's can be a long wait though. As fun as it is, as cool as it
- 39:19is, the reality is if you need to, if if you have a timer on
- 39:23that babysitter or or maybe you're just exhausted after your
- 39:27trip and you need to like tweak that a little bit and you can't
- 39:30get into Sam's. There's also the cocktails,
- 39:34mocktails and appetizers available at Tambu Lounge in the
- 39:37Poly. So that's also like a, a
- 39:40perfectly, perfectly popular, perfectly.
- 39:43I almost said serviceable. But like, that makes it sound
- 39:45like it's just an OK bar. It's actually a really popular
- 39:47bar. So you can always stop at Tambu
- 39:50instead if you can't get into Trader Sam's.
- 39:53Now, again, following the monorail idea here, we're going
- 39:57to go to the Grand Floridian. So there are a shocking amount
- 40:03of dinner options at the Grand Floridian.
- 40:05Like, more than I I think I ever really remember.
- 40:09I haven't been. They won't let me in.
- 40:11I'm I'm simply not in the tax bracket for the Grand Floridian,
- 40:15However, the same. I'm the same.
- 40:17Yeah. And so I just like like I it's
- 40:20it's sort of like a myth, right? Like I know it exists, but I've
- 40:22never been there. And I don't know that I will.
- 40:25I've been in the. Lobby and felt like I overstayed
- 40:28my welcome being there like 5 minutes so.
- 40:31Yeah, I feel, I feel like if I was in a even lower tax bracket,
- 40:36they would just like drop a shade over my eyes when we
- 40:38passed by. Like I'm not even allowed to
- 40:41wait and look at. They're just going to drop, go
- 40:43away green in front of my eyeballs.
- 40:46I'm not going to be. Yeah, that's it.
- 40:53Not allowed. So if perhaps you make slightly
- 40:58more money than anybody on this podcast and they permit you to
- 41:02look at the Grand Floridian, there's like 812 dining options
- 41:07here. Some of them are more
- 41:09affordable. Some of them are literally a
- 41:11Michelin starred restaurant. So there's quite a level of
- 41:14variety. I threw 3 on here as just to
- 41:17give you a couple options. So the affordable will be the
- 41:20Grand Floridian Cafe. That's that's like a very not
- 41:24not it's not quick service, but it's almost like a quick service
- 41:27Y type vibe, right? Like it's just it's just very in
- 41:30and out. So, you know, if you're just
- 41:31looking for something quick or something on the lower end of
- 41:34the price spectrum, that's probably your best bet.
- 41:38There's also an extremely well reviewed narcosis.
- 41:41A lot of people have a lot of positive things to say about
- 41:44this. This is a really good one for
- 41:46like a romantic evening. If you have the, the, you know,
- 41:48like I was saying, a little bit more time to indulge in this
- 41:51date night dinner because it overlooks the lagoon.
- 41:55It's like a, it's like a seafood type restaurant.
- 41:58So you get like to overlook the lagoon and it's like very much
- 42:01like a Florida seafood restaurant, high end seafood
- 42:04restaurant. Like if that's what you're
- 42:05picturing, that's what it is truly.
- 42:08And then if you are, if taxes aren't a concern to you, there
- 42:14is Victoria and Albert's, which is the Michelin starred
- 42:18restaurant. It is my dream to eat there one
- 42:20day. I am like fanatical about this
- 42:23place. It's it's just, it seems so good
- 42:26and it seems so unattainable. But one day it will happen.
- 42:30One day. Like saving your mind.
- 42:32Makes you have a dress code 0 Tulariah and Albert so so you
- 42:35could just go and you're like parked attire.
- 42:39How's your day? I'm paying all that money,
- 42:42right? I should show them how one.
- 42:44Several of those top tier restaurants do, so keep that in
- 42:47mind. Yes, Yep, Nope, that's a.
- 42:49That's a really good. Point I completely forgot to
- 42:51mention the the dress code yeah, I don't know if I brings a
- 42:54dinner jacket to Disney World so.
- 42:56No, I do know that any restaurant that has that style
- 42:59of dress code, it will be listed on the Disney website.
- 43:03So when you are doing your research, you should come across
- 43:06that information. Yeah.
- 43:09If you are reading yes like it very clearly will say like hey,
- 43:15your swimwear is not welcome here.
- 43:18Yeah, yeah, please no flip flop. Right, exactly.
- 43:21So, yeah, yes. All right, so once you have, if
- 43:25you were permitted within the grounds of Grand Floridian, once
- 43:28you've had your dinner there to continue on with the theme of
- 43:31the MA or I'll crawl. If you have an annual pass or if
- 43:35you were Magic Kingdom earlier that day and you can re enter,
- 43:38this is the perfect opportunity to just go pop in, grab some
- 43:42dessert, perhaps even watch some fireworks while you're in there.
- 43:46If you weren't, if you don't have any of pass or you weren't
- 43:49in Magic Kingdom, you can continue on the monorail to the
- 43:52contemporary. We suggest if this is going to
- 43:55be your like final stop of the evening and you are interested
- 43:59in the fireworks and dessert, there is a package.
- 44:02It's functions just as any other dessert party does in Disney.
- 44:07So you have to like reserve the tickets so far in advance.
- 44:09I think it's also is it also 60 days for those dessert party
- 44:12tickets? Yes, OK, Yeah.
- 44:15So they'll open up in the same window as the rest of your
- 44:17reservations. And this lets you get to
- 44:20literally the top of the contemporary.
- 44:21And it's a dessert party. It's got, I think it does also
- 44:25offer alcohol. So if you're over 21, you can
- 44:28indulge in that. You know, it's like some
- 44:29champagne, things like that, as well as like a dessert bar.
- 44:32And you can watch the fireworks from the contemporary.
- 44:35Yeah, just a a side note, and this is just for the real ones
- 44:40that are listening to the podcast because this is not very
- 44:43well publicized, but if you don't want to spend the more
- 44:50significant amounts to do the celebration at the top dessert
- 44:53party 200. I think it was like 200 the last
- 44:56I. Think you can just grab drinks
- 45:02or some appetizers at the bar At California Grill, which is the
- 45:07restaurant that is at the top of the Contemporary.
- 45:10Keep your receipt. They open at 5 S anytime from
- 45:145:00 on. Keep your receipt and that will
- 45:18gain you access to their rooftop patio for fireworks viewing.
- 45:22Doesn't matter if you ate there during fireworks or not.
- 45:26You could go there right at 5:00.
- 45:28Grab a couple drinks at the bar, continue your way around the
- 45:32monorail. You you totally.
- 45:37Yeah, yeah. You could go Cali grill for
- 45:39drinks. Still grand flirting for dinner.
- 45:43Is it like dirt at the Poly? And then loop your way back to
- 45:49the contemporary. But you can gain access to that
- 45:52same rooftop patio. It's like it's big enough that
- 45:56like they section off the dessert party obviously because
- 45:58they don't want random people like walking into the dessert
- 46:00party and partaking, but there is a section.
- 46:04Just reach over the velvet. I come to.
- 46:07You my mom just goes scootch on in right here and jab.
- 46:09One of those, if you don't mind. Thank you.
- 46:12That brownie looks delectable, thank you.
- 46:16But you can gain access to their rooftop patio for fireworks
- 46:21viewing. Again, that's not like a super
- 46:23well known little things so like that's not something we're going
- 46:27to make like videos about. It's just going to exist in
- 46:31minute 40 whatever of this podcast yeah for people to to
- 46:37find out. So you're welcome giving all the
- 46:40secrets and then we get cancelled on the Internet.
- 46:42It'll be. Fine, who would cancel somebody
- 46:46wearing Berry? This is so true.
- 46:49This is so true I'm. Too cute to be cancelled?
- 46:52This is so true. This is so true A. 100% good
- 46:56answer. OK, so.
- 47:00All right. Enough of our secrets.
- 47:03So alternatively, what is like an because we're still, I know
- 47:08it's been like 45 minutes since we brought up the fact that this
- 47:10is still for a date night, but. On the monorail loop, right?
- 47:13That's what we're talking about. Well, back to reality for a
- 47:16second. So it is still it is still on
- 47:19the monorail. But if you can, as we were
- 47:21talking about like some splurge splurge items for this like
- 47:24romantic date night type idea, it is.
- 47:28I have heard good things about the spa treatments that are
- 47:31available at the Grand Floridian.
- 47:33So if it is within your budget, it is it is probably a welcome
- 47:38treat for you and your partner to to go enjoy some relaxing spa
- 47:43day activities at the Grand Floridian.
- 47:45You can enjoy dinner there, or you can then hop on the monorail
- 47:48and go to any of the other ones. Maybe we'll get some drinks at
- 47:50the Poly, hang out at Trader Sam's, order some stuff at Tambu
- 47:54Lounge or head over to the Contemporary.
- 47:56So there are, you know, again, like mix and match options for
- 47:59like a date night type of idea there.
- 48:02The other thing too that I want to bring up was the when we were
- 48:06talking about the fireworks was the Polly Beach.
- 48:09Polly Beach is also a good option for watching fireworks
- 48:13depending on where you're starting or ending on the
- 48:15monorail loop. If you weren't going to head
- 48:17over to Contemporary, maybe you were just keeping it between the
- 48:20Grand Floridian and the Polly. The Polly Beach is an excellent
- 48:24spot to watch fireworks and they pipe in the music right to the
- 48:27beach. Yeah, I have done that a couple
- 48:29times. It's really nice.
- 48:30But do note that during really busy holiday times they do
- 48:35sometimes close down the beach to only guests that are staying
- 48:39at the resort. So have a backup plan if you
- 48:42know you're going Like during like Christmas and holidays.
- 48:45Absolutely not. You cannot use the Poly beach
- 48:47unfortunately. I hate to break it to you.
- 48:49During some like spring break Easter times also that happens.
- 48:54I did it years ago for 4th of July and didn't have a problem.
- 48:58But I don't know now if that is a holiday that they close it off
- 49:02of. So just keep in mind that
- 49:04holidays you may or may not have luck with doing that because
- 49:07they will like ask to see your like like to scan your room key
- 49:13basically to prove that you can like go out and watch at the
- 49:16beach. So again, just keep that in
- 49:18mind. And it is a fairly popular spot
- 49:21for guests that are staying at the resort.
- 49:23So it's not like you're going to be alone on the beach each there
- 49:25you're going to you're going to have to fight for some some
- 49:27territory to make sure that you can see the the the fireworks
- 49:33and everything. And you'll get to see like the
- 49:34little like teeny tiny top turret of the castle and then
- 49:40the fireworks and you'll get to see Tink.
- 49:43So if Tink flying across the sky matters, you can't see here from
- 49:47the Polly too. What fun.
- 49:50I like it. All right, so if you are not
- 49:54interested in the monorail crawl, which I don't know why
- 49:58you wouldn't be in in any sense if maybe the Grand Floridian
- 50:04kicked you out so hard that you wound up on the other end of
- 50:08Disney property. If you are just interested in a
- 50:11dinner, maybe your time is really limited.
- 50:15Maybe it's all that you could work into your budget or your
- 50:18time frame is just like a romantic dinner and you wanted
- 50:22to keep it kind of like within the the parks properties.
- 50:25You didn't really want to venture over to Disney Springs.
- 50:29Chico over Animal Kingdom Lodge is a top, top recommendation.
- 50:35Anytime you look up like Disney dining recommendations or like
- 50:39hidden gems at Disney, there will always be somebody bringing
- 50:43up Chico in the thread and it's super easy to see why it is.
- 50:48First off, Animal Kingdom Lodge is beautiful like point blank
- 50:51period. It is a gorgeous property.
- 50:53So that is just always fun to to visit.
- 50:57So it's a unique dining experience in that the menu
- 51:03features a lot of food that takes inspiration from a variety
- 51:07of African countries, and it ranges from wild game, for
- 51:11example. I was looking up the menu before
- 51:13it rotates somewhat, so there was like wild boar on the menu.
- 51:18But there's also like more familiar things like chicken,
- 51:20but that are prepared in a traditional way, again, like
- 51:24through a variety of countries. So it's like basically
- 51:26everything from like South Africa all the way up to
- 51:28Morocco. There's a bunch of
- 51:30representation across the continent of Africa.
- 51:33So it is a really beautiful location with some really
- 51:37interesting and unique food that you may not have access to
- 51:40wherever you are visiting from. Yeah.
- 51:42And if you're over there in the evening time, obviously if
- 51:46you're there during the daytime, they have a lot of like Savannah
- 51:49view walkways that you can take out the like backside of the
- 51:53resort on which whichever part of the resort that you're in.
- 51:58But if you have a little bit of extra time, maybe after dinner
- 52:02that you still have a sitter, but you like don't want to go
- 52:06somewhere else after you've done dinner, you can look into the
- 52:10Starlight Safari offering that they have over there.
- 52:13And I totally forgot that they did this until I was like
- 52:16looking up other stuff at Animal Kingdom Lodge because I was
- 52:19like, I feel like they have something for like night time
- 52:22viewing of the animals or something.
- 52:23And so I then I came across as I was like, oh, right.
- 52:26So this is an hour long night time safari that you literally
- 52:32get into like a smaller version of the safari vehicles from
- 52:35Animal Kingdom. It is $89.00 per person and it
- 52:38is just a night time look at many of your favorite safari
- 52:42animals. It typically departs Animal
- 52:45Kingdom Lodge at like an 830 and then like a 10:00.
- 52:49So you got to time it accordingly with your dinner and
- 52:52all that type of thing because you don't want to be late for
- 52:55that if you do reserve it. But definitely something to to
- 52:58consider as like a fun little date night adventure After you
- 53:02have maybe had some lovely dinner at Chico, then you know
- 53:06you're right there. So definitely another option to
- 53:09look into if you have some some an extra hours that you'd like
- 53:13to do something with. Yeah, no, I completely forgot
- 53:16that they did that because they were they ran it on a limited
- 53:20basis like pre COVID and then post COVID for a little while
- 53:23they just like understand it really totally did it with it.
- 53:26I forgot that they had brought it back like last year maybe or
- 53:29even the year before. Hasn't even not.
- 53:31Lambert And I will say that it may not be offered.
- 53:35It may not be something that is offered consistently every
- 53:37single week, every single month. You know, you may have to look
- 53:41around and check availability for that.
- 53:43But I looked out a little bit like because I was just clicking
- 53:45around on the website today because I wanted to see and it
- 53:49was offered for most of the summer and into the into the
- 53:53fall too. So all.
- 53:55Right. Yeah.
- 53:56Cool on to our last suggestion which is I feel like the classic
- 54:00Disney date night which is a Disney Springs night.
- 54:03So me and Doc always do a Disney Springs date night every time we
- 54:06go to Disney. It is honestly our favorite and
- 54:09because they just have so many different things to do, right?
- 54:12There's over 100 shopping and dining options.
- 54:14There are different experiences. There's a dine in movie theater.
- 54:16There's a bowling alley that you have a House of Blues, right?
- 54:19You can go see a concert if tickets are available and it's
- 54:22something you're interested in. They have Cirque du Soleil,
- 54:25right? There's just like so many
- 54:27different things to do at Disney Springs, but I think it makes it
- 54:31the perfect date night. Plus it's free to get into
- 54:34Disney Springs, so it's a nice way to have a date night without
- 54:37buying, you know, extra Park ignition or anything like that.
- 54:40Yeah, then you can spend that money on things in Disney
- 54:42Springs. They know what they're doing and
- 54:45it works every time. Also the the other nice thing
- 54:48about Disney Springs is if you were on property, Disney
- 54:51transportation runs to Disney Springs so you don't have to
- 54:54worry about driving yourself so you can be safe and intelligent
- 54:58about your decisions. Yep, yes.
- 55:00You can. You can smartly indulge.
- 55:04Yes, yes. So that being said, thinking
- 55:09about dinner reservations or where you would like to eat for
- 55:11dinner, our personal favorite place to go is Morimoto Asia.
- 55:15We make a reservation and eat there basically any time we go
- 55:18to Disney. They have all your favorites.
- 55:20Everything from pad Thai to sushi is on their menu.
- 55:22Their drinks are like out of this world delicious.
- 55:25Their cocktails so love. If that's your thing, they slap.
- 55:29They're so good. And I've heard really good
- 55:31things about their mocktails too.
- 55:33There are of course 1,000,000 and one other table service
- 55:35restaurants that you can dine at as well.
- 55:39Chef Art Smith's Homecoming is one that is often talked about.
- 55:42Raglan Rd. if you want dinner and a show.
- 55:44They do have the live Irish music and like step dancing and
- 55:47everything so that is a lot of fun.
- 55:51Wine Bar George is really great as well, and that's just like 3
- 55:55or 4 of the many restaurants that you can eat at in Disney
- 55:59Springs. I love Wine Bar George.
- 56:01If your vibe is like drinks and apps for a date night, that's
- 56:05totally the way to go 'cause Shareables is their whole thing
- 56:08there. I, I actually went there the,
- 56:12the only place in Disney I have been without Jess.
- 56:15Actually we had a work conference down in Orlando and
- 56:19so we, we as a team went out to dinner to Wine Bar George and
- 56:24I'm like, oh man, we got to work this into the Disney Springs
- 56:26rotation somehow because it was really good.
- 56:29I was very impressed with it. I've always heard good things,
- 56:32but it was really believe the hype people.
- 56:34Wine Bar George is really good. That's amazing.
- 56:37I know my sister and her husband love to do Raglan Rd. because
- 56:42they've taken trips to Ireland and it like it's like a fun
- 56:45little like trip back to, you know, pseudo back to what when
- 56:50what they experienced when they were there.
- 56:52So I know there's lots of those types of restaurants.
- 56:55I think because you have such a wide variety there that you can
- 57:00find pretty much anything you're looking for within Disney
- 57:03Springs. Yeah.
- 57:03Yeah, I mean, there's Italian, there's there's even like more
- 57:06like quick servicing kind of options, right.
- 57:08There's like chicken guy and rose sandwich and like all like
- 57:12so if you're just looking like a quick dinner, I meant to like
- 57:15walk around and do experiences at Disney Springs.
- 57:17Like you can easily, you know, do that as.
- 57:19Well. I love Earl of Sandwich but
- 57:21please be aware it can take some time.
- 57:23I'll get you to receive your sandwich.
- 57:26The Earl does not work on anyone else's time by both on his own.
- 57:30You are getting that sandwich when you get that.
- 57:32Sandwich. So just be prepared that might
- 57:34be a uniquely like breakfast problem because like we're gone
- 57:37at like lunchtime and dinner time and not really out of this
- 57:40shoe. But breakfast last time we were
- 57:43there was a doozy. It's like. 45 minutes for that
- 57:46was there wise? That that was late.
- 57:49Wow. Yeah, it was late.
- 57:50Was not thrilled yet. It was delicious.
- 57:53So like, but, but actually, because then I was getting
- 57:55hungry and it wasn't going. Once I got fed it was fine, you
- 57:58know Right? All right, so you've had your
- 58:00dinner wherever you've chosen to eat, so now time to choose what
- 58:04you would like to do for the rest of your evening.
- 58:06Maybe shopping is your thing. Spending money is definitely our
- 58:09thing. We're allergic to saving money.
- 58:11It's my favorite. Hobby, honestly.
- 58:13And there is. Shopping for everybody in Disney
- 58:15Springs, right? There's everything from like a
- 58:17Lego store, the world of Disney Store, stores like Kate Spade or
- 58:23like Lilly Pulitzer, Oakley, Uniqlo, right?
- 58:25So there's so many different varieties and then there are
- 58:27like the specific Disney like merchandise shops.
- 58:31So like World of Disney, there is the marketplace Co-op, there
- 58:35is Disney style, right? So all different, you know,
- 58:38stores that are selling Disney merchandise.
- 58:40And then of course, there's things like a Christmas shop,
- 58:43Art of Disney, and the Arias Brothers Crystal Shop as well if
- 58:47you're looking for like a special item to purchase.
- 58:50Yeah. And and also just to note before
- 58:52we move on to, you know, other things that you can do in
- 58:55Springs, most of the stores that we listed like the clothing
- 58:58stores, a bunch of them have collections that are actually
- 59:01unique to Disney Springs. In fact, I'm wearing AT shirt
- 59:05from Uniqlo that I had gotten in Disney Springs.
- 59:08And at the time, I think it still is.
- 59:10It's a design that's only available in Disney Springs and
- 59:14so the unique was real good for that.
- 59:16They have probably a rotating caps of like 20 shirts that are
- 59:19unique to Disney Springs. I know Kate Spade occasionally
- 59:22has like wristlets or accessory charms that are unique to
- 59:26spring. So that's even if it's a
- 59:28designer that you're familiar with and you're like, no, like I
- 59:31have that at home. Just if you like them, poke your
- 59:34head in just. See if they have anything unique
- 59:35to. Springs.
- 59:37Yeah, because definitely if there's a Danny collection, they
- 59:39will have it featured. They're pretty prominently, even
- 59:41if it's not like exclusive, but it'll be there.
- 59:43I love it. OK, Yeah.
- 59:44What else can we do at Disney Springs?
- 59:46Please tell us. I would love to know.
- 59:48Yes, other things. So like I said before, there are
- 59:50a whole lot of experiences at Disney Springs as well.
- 59:53So there are things like the AMC Dine in theater, so maybe you
- 59:57could catch a movie. Heartbreak feels good in a place
- 1:00:01like the heartbreak. That's still good in a place
- 1:00:02like this. So if you're a really big, well,
- 1:00:05Kidman fan. And who is in?
- 1:00:07Yeah, there is the Cirque du Soleil show.
- 1:00:10You can go bowling at Splitsville or you can take a
- 1:00:14tour of the lake in vintage amp car which is fascinating so.
- 1:00:20Honestly, extremely fun to watch.
- 1:00:22That's just even like watch from a distance because people are
- 1:00:25not ready for that car to go in the water.
- 1:00:27And then the amount of tourists that like I see hanging out
- 1:00:30there that'll they're dropping into the lake and then they like
- 1:00:33launch full speed into the lake and they're like the car
- 1:00:36swimming. It's so good.
- 1:00:38It's so good, dude, so good. Yeah, so they also have.
- 1:00:41The. Run freak out.
- 1:00:43They also have the Potter balloon.
- 1:00:45Thank you. You do exactly what I was doing
- 1:00:47with that mission. That's like a delegation.
- 1:00:52Yeah. So that is just like a few of
- 1:00:54the experiences too that you can have at Disney Springs.
- 1:00:57So a nice little dinner and then event and perfect date night.
- 1:01:03So once you have had for dinner, gone shopping and or done
- 1:01:08whatever experience you had planned for the night, obviously
- 1:01:11again, time for dessert to end the night.
- 1:01:14Who doesn't love a sweet treat? So we definitely recommend
- 1:01:17cookies from Gideon's Bakehouse. It is our absolute favorite.
- 1:01:21The cookies are like, I think it's half a pound, right?
- 1:01:24Just pure deliciousness. And it's definitely well worth
- 1:01:27whatever weight that you will wait in line to get them.
- 1:01:30I mean typically you can find like a pretty decent line, but
- 1:01:34like even if it's like halfway around the block, wait is worth
- 1:01:37it. Not only is it worth it, they go
- 1:01:39quick. They really have gotten the line
- 1:01:42management. Disney take some notes because
- 1:01:44they have line management doubt to a science.
- 1:01:47Yeah, it's unbelievable. So it's worth the wait.
- 1:01:49And you know, you're on a date, you want to chit chat, you want
- 1:01:53to, you want to, you know, have some fun.
- 1:01:55So, you know, just sitting and having a little a little chat in
- 1:01:59line while you're eating delicious cookies never hurt
- 1:02:01anybody. And what's the feeling in
- 1:02:03Gideon's is super cute if you're into like spooky cute stuff like
- 1:02:07that's like our vibe. So it's like perfect for us.
- 1:02:09Also they have hot cookie hour. I forget exactly what time they
- 1:02:13do. It's like and I are so or 8:00
- 1:02:15like 2 to. 3:00 and 7:00 to 8:00.
- 1:02:17Perfect. So if you 10 get in there
- 1:02:19between those hours, you can get cookies with some ice cream, and
- 1:02:24that's even more magical and special.
- 1:02:26And it will say maybe not for maybe not for evening time, but
- 1:02:30there maybe for like grab it for the at the night time to drink
- 1:02:33the next morning. Their cold brews are so good.
- 1:02:38Yep. They taste shock, They have a
- 1:02:41peanut butter cold brew that is delicious, and they have a
- 1:02:43cookies and cream one that literally tastes like melted
- 1:02:47cookies and cream ice cream in the best possible way.
- 1:02:50Yep. Yeah.
- 1:02:51It's the most delicious. It's my favorite.
- 1:02:53Coffee. I've ever.
- 1:02:54Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:02:55My entire life, yes. It's unbelievable.
- 1:02:58It is like a photorealistic cookies and cream batter on
- 1:03:03like, it's, it's crazy. It's really like their flavors
- 1:03:07are down to a science in a way that's extremely impressive.
- 1:03:10Like even cookies sometimes you haven't described as XY and Z
- 1:03:14flavor. And you're like, OK, I kind of
- 1:03:16get that right. But like Gideon's comes up with
- 1:03:18some wacky flavors. They're all delicious and they
- 1:03:21all taste exactly as described. I mean, it's really I've you can
- 1:03:25never go wrong with Gideon's. Truly it is, it is my favorite
- 1:03:29treat and we usually do our date night the first love and night
- 1:03:32that we land so then we can stock up on Gideon and have
- 1:03:35Gideon's for the rest of the trip.
- 1:03:36That is brought this through, is it Disney World salaries are not
- 1:03:40real. Fake No, I'm going to go hug a
- 1:03:44mouse, all right. And I will say.
- 1:03:46If you are not a fan of like the under baked almost not baked
- 1:03:52enough style cookie, Gideon's may not be your vibe because
- 1:03:55they are known for that real gooey center.
- 1:03:59Kind of almost feel like under baked.
- 1:04:02Right, yes, it gives more cakey than under baked.
- 1:04:05So like it could be. Because they OK, they do not to
- 1:04:09blow the lid the lid wide open on gay in, but they they use
- 1:04:13versus spilling all kinds of CEO.
- 1:04:15They use cake flour in in their cookies.
- 1:04:18It's I think it's like half all-purpose flour, 1/4 of cake
- 1:04:22flour and a quarter rye flour or something like that.
- 1:04:25I, there's Justine cooks is a fantastic food content creator.
- 1:04:29Shout out to Justine if you ever see this.
- 1:04:31There's some unknown reason, No, but she A slaps and B reverse
- 1:04:37engineer of the Gideon's cookie recipe.
- 1:04:40And it is spot on. It's incredible.
- 1:04:42So if you're Freakazoids like us and you and you know, why don't
- 1:04:45you Gideon's at home Because you can't wait until your next
- 1:04:47Disney trip. They are.
- 1:04:48It is actually a shockingly approachable recipe.
- 1:04:51Please continue. I'm gonna need you to send me
- 1:04:54that. Yeah, but yeah.
- 1:04:56Gotcha. Awesome.
- 1:04:57OK, yes, OK. So if we're not getting
- 1:05:00Gideon's, what are our other choice?
- 1:05:03If we're not getting. Gideon's What's Wrong with You?
- 1:05:05But. Exit out the car.
- 1:05:06That's it. Walk into the ocean.
- 1:05:10Stop now. It's.
- 1:05:11Very, very normal condemnation. Please don't actually do that
- 1:05:16but fit you. All right, so if you're not
- 1:05:19getting Gideon for not. Sentencing you to death.
- 1:05:22That is not what's happening here.
- 1:05:24I want that out of T-shirt. Give me Gideon's or I will kill
- 1:05:28you. I thought you were going to say
- 1:05:30give me Gideon's or give me death.
- 1:05:33I was going to, and then I was like, I got it too, because
- 1:05:35that's trademark. Like, I don't want to get
- 1:05:41cancelled again. I just just messed up.
- 1:05:43Too cute to me. Cancel.
- 1:05:48All right, I'm listening. Let's get right.
- 1:05:53I develop it, Yeah. There are obviously a lot of
- 1:05:56other dessert options in Disney Springs as well.
- 1:05:59There is Emirates Patisserie for classic like pastries and cakes
- 1:06:04and things like that. Everglades Donuts has a variety
- 1:06:07of donut options. Salt and straw is like an ice
- 1:06:09cream option. And then there's also multiple
- 1:06:12churro carts and a dulip stand if you want your classic Disney
- 1:06:16desserts. But definitely you're in
- 1:06:18Springs, might as well go for something a little bit more
- 1:06:20special and unique. So I mean, there's just a few of
- 1:06:23the many options that there are around the park or around Disney
- 1:06:26Springs. So definitely take a look and
- 1:06:29see what might be your take for a date night.
- 1:06:32Yeah. Salt and straw has wild ice
- 1:06:34cream flavors. So like be prepared.
- 1:06:36They have like a Thanksgiving dinner flavour and like a
- 1:06:40cornbread flavour. Like it's, it's wild.
- 1:06:42So like, don't assume that it's going to be just normal flavors.
- 1:06:48Yeah, yeah, yeah. They're all pretty well.
- 1:06:50Like fun for date night is like, let me try something really
- 1:06:53wacky and weird and so at least that's like our vibe.
- 1:06:56It kind of fits, so I. For one, am not wacky and or
- 1:07:00weird. Not at all.
- 1:07:02Out of this hour and whatever have been wacky or weird, I'm
- 1:07:05violently nook toast. I'm so I'm the most normal
- 1:07:09person anybody's ever encountered.
- 1:07:11I'm famously normal. Yeah, totally.
- 1:07:17So folks. Oh my gosh, well after we have
- 1:07:23divulged into chaos here, that is the end of.
- 1:07:27Yeah, that's all we got. So we do hope that this gave you
- 1:07:31some good ideas for possible date night, family night,
- 1:07:34exciting events that you can do at Walt Disney World that are
- 1:07:38maybe a little specific to Disney World or things that you
- 1:07:42maybe can't do other places. If you've got other ideas for
- 1:07:46date night, we'd love to hear about them.

- 1:08:13information because that just makes it fun for all of us,
- 1:08:16right? Yep.
- 1:08:18Exactly, exactly. So coming up next on Mom St.
- 1:08:22USA, I'm going to be doing an episode on, Ironically, a
- 1:08:28realistic Disney budget, which feels kind of hysterical
- 1:08:33considering the amount of money that we talked about spending
- 1:08:36this episode. But hey, it's going to be
- 1:08:38helpful for you planning your date night to know what your
- 1:08:40budget is, right? That's it.
- 1:08:42Well, you got to you got to budget the rest of the trip and
- 1:08:45then you black out for the day night.
- 1:08:47That's. That's the vibe, that's what's
- 1:08:49going to. Happen.
- 1:08:50That might be Ducks approach. I don't think that's the
- 1:08:53approach we're going to take next episode.
- 1:08:55And you know what? That's probably correct.
- 1:09:00So yeah, your advice will be more sound than mine.
- 1:09:04So and come back next week if you want to know more about
- 1:09:06realistic Disney budgets. But for today, that ends our
- 1:09:10time with you. Thank you all so much for being
