- 0:12Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered. Deuce had no interest whatsoever and gambling at all.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Thank God. Well, he's Johnny American over there. You know,
- 0:22Speaker 1: he's like mister pure blood. I'm already on edge, don't
- 0:25Speaker 1: He's already pushing me over the edge. Today everyone's pumping
- 0:28Speaker 1: the Patriots up, like now, I Patriots. There's still gonna
- 0:31Speaker 1: be some really interesting matchups in these last three games.
- 0:34Speaker 1: That that'll tell you something. I can arrogance. Yes, right, Oh,
- 0:42Speaker 1: you should have heard the harum thing in the press
- 0:44Speaker 1: spots from Eric on that game. He was disgusted. He
- 0:47Speaker 1: loves the cloud of Blues. I can't live. You're right,
- 0:50Speaker 1: it's probably about the I don't know if I'm right
- 0:54Speaker 1: or wrong, but I don't consider South America to be overseas.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Eric wishes he was in Europe, so that makes sense.
- 1:00Speaker 1: His mind is in Europe. That should be his sky swap.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I'd rather be in Europe. Is Patriot's Unfiltered fueled by
- 1:11Speaker 1: Duncan All right, Welcome the Patriots Unfiltered. It is Wednesday
- 1:16Speaker 1: here at Gillette Stadium getting ready for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Who I'm not sure if the team's going to be
- 1:24Speaker 1: able to show up at this point. It's unbelievable. So
- 1:26Speaker 1: many guys. I think they have eight guys total, I do.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I think they're trying to for across my mind this
- 1:32Speaker 1: morning when look, I think they're done. I don't want
- 1:34Speaker 1: to play. I literally counted up between defensive end, defensive tackle,
- 1:37Speaker 1: and linebackers. They got eight guy nobody now eight guys
- 1:39Speaker 1: total on the active roster for the front seven. I'm
- 1:42Speaker 1: half joking, but I think there might be some truth,
- 1:44Speaker 1: like they do still want to play anymore. Yeah, there's
- 1:47Speaker 1: not a lot of incentive, there's not there's very little
- 1:49Speaker 1: in they're gonna call up just be What if we
- 1:50Speaker 1: just say you guys winning and we don't need to
- 1:52Speaker 1: play it? All right? The league said something earlier about
- 1:56Speaker 1: being able to forfeit. You do you want to do that?
- 1:58Speaker 1: Can we do that? We do that situation? Can we
- 2:00Speaker 1: ask to keep that? So? You know, with the new
- 2:05Speaker 1: re entry rules now it's five days instead of ten,
- 2:08Speaker 1: there's a chance that a lot of these guys will
- 2:10Speaker 1: be able to play. But at the end of the day,
- 2:13Speaker 1: you know, they wouldn't have been able to practice and
- 2:15Speaker 1: so on, and you know, so the question is, okay,
- 2:20Speaker 1: so what will we be able to gather out of
- 2:22Speaker 1: this game? And I think what we need to see
- 2:26Speaker 1: is the Patriots just take care of business from beginning
- 2:29Speaker 1: to end. No Houston Texan game, nothing like that. We
- 2:34Speaker 1: need to see a Patriots team come out and just
- 2:37Speaker 1: outright dominate that well from beginning to end. But if
- 2:41Speaker 1: they do that, there's going to be an asterisk because
- 2:44Speaker 1: it's against a the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are be like
- 2:48Speaker 1: fielding a third string preseason team. Yeah, that's half but
- 2:53Speaker 1: what are you really going to learn but that? But
- 2:55Speaker 1: if they don't do that, you'll learn a lot, right,
- 2:57Speaker 1: But a good team should be able to do that. Yeah,
- 3:00Speaker 1: go out there and execute. You know, at the end
- 3:03Speaker 1: of the year, you're even if they had every single
- 3:05Speaker 1: guy that played, would you be like, well, there's no
- 3:06Speaker 1: asters now they Yeah, they made them there. If the
- 3:09Speaker 1: Patriots are a good team, they should dominate this game
- 3:12Speaker 1: game from the beginning to end. Yeah, it's like it's
- 3:14Speaker 1: like a walkthrough. You gotta like get on track. We've
- 3:16Speaker 1: got our guys out there. I think to Eric's point,
- 3:19Speaker 1: I think if they're a bad team, they should dominate
- 3:20Speaker 1: this game from beginning. No, because the Jacksonville Jaguars are
- 3:23Speaker 1: a bad team, that's there beyond Like with I mean,
- 3:27Speaker 1: I don't know what's going to happen the rest of
- 3:28Speaker 1: the week. Some of these guys might play. But what
- 3:30Speaker 1: did you say it might be had? Yeah, it was
- 3:31Speaker 1: like eight of the front seven as always just said
- 3:33Speaker 1: eight guys. They got eight healthy guys in the front side.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I mean, I'm sorry, if you run for two hundred
- 3:36Speaker 1: and fifty yards and they're missing eight guys in the
- 3:38Speaker 1: front sea, you could still be bad. Well that's what
- 3:42Speaker 1: makes it, like overall, it's just tough to play the
- 3:45Speaker 1: you know the game where well you beat them and
- 3:47Speaker 1: we didn't beat them, like the well, what well, what
- 3:49Speaker 1: Titans team did you play? Did you play the Derrek
- 3:51Speaker 1: Henry Titans team? Or what Brown's team did you play?
- 3:53Speaker 1: Who was their quarterback that day? There's so much of
- 3:55Speaker 1: that this year, of just different teams and you know,
- 3:58Speaker 1: like Miami for instance, getting tennis this week, Like what
- 4:02Speaker 1: Tennessee team are they playing? It's not the same team
- 4:04Speaker 1: that the Patriots played. A lot of weird. There's a
- 4:06Speaker 1: lot of that, but Jacksonville is really really bad. Yeah,
- 4:09Speaker 1: I don't. Plus, the handful of NFL players they have
- 4:13Speaker 1: aren't you know, right now, aren't eligible to play now
- 4:16Speaker 1: some of them might, you know, we'll see. But the
- 4:18Speaker 1: new rules, which I've been ranting against all week. Yeah,
- 4:22Speaker 1: and you finally have one specific example now, like Cole
- 4:27Speaker 1: Beasley couldn't play for the Bills last week, but Carson
- 4:29Speaker 1: Wentz can play for the Colts this week, right, both unvaccinated.
- 4:32Speaker 1: You know, this is apples to apples, Right. I don't
- 4:35Speaker 1: think you I don't think you should be changing rules
- 4:37Speaker 1: in the middle of seasons. But I guess this, you know,
- 4:40Speaker 1: if you're going to do it, I guess this is
- 4:42Speaker 1: a reason because of such an unprecedented situation. But definitely
- 4:46Speaker 1: team like the Browns, who are going to have a
- 4:48Speaker 1: gripe at the end of the season. You know, seeding
- 4:51Speaker 1: and playoff spots in general are going to be affected
- 4:54Speaker 1: by who can play and who can't play. Sure, but
- 4:57Speaker 1: you know, and and the rules were different, yep, for
- 5:01Speaker 1: for some teams rather than others. So we're talking about
- 5:03Speaker 1: the Jacksonville. Obviously, last night we learned John Madden passed away,
- 5:08Speaker 1: so um, you know, the NFL world is is tributing
- 5:12Speaker 1: him today. You know, just his name is synonymous with
- 5:18Speaker 1: the NFL, you know. And to me, you break up
- 5:21Speaker 1: his legacy into three parts. It's the coaching, the broadcasting,
- 5:27Speaker 1: and then the video game. And to me, the big
- 5:30Speaker 1: the one that is the most important, I think is
- 5:33Speaker 1: the broadcasting. You know, because he coached for ten years.
- 5:37Speaker 1: His influence. That's the most important part of his legacy
- 5:41Speaker 1: because you know, if he wasn't the broadcaster he was,
- 5:45Speaker 1: they wouldn't have asked him to do that video game.
- 5:47Speaker 1: You know. It's because it's because he became that every
- 5:50Speaker 1: man and everyone loved him, and you know, he made
- 5:54Speaker 1: it entertaining, the first guy that really kind of do
- 5:57Speaker 1: what he did, and that's why he got asked to
- 6:00Speaker 1: do the video game because so many people they thought
- 6:03Speaker 1: of Madden, they had good feelings. Yeah, you know, yeah,
- 6:07Speaker 1: I do you remember Fred when he stopped coaching and
- 6:12Speaker 1: was first asked to be a broadcaster. Yeah, well they
- 6:14Speaker 1: I watched the thing last night. He originally said no,
- 6:17Speaker 1: he said, I wasn't interested. What did you say? Why?
- 6:20Speaker 1: He just was you know, he didn't know how to
- 6:22Speaker 1: do it well. He said when he was a coach,
- 6:24Speaker 1: he didn't like the media, he didn't like he didn't
- 6:27Speaker 1: like the way they did it. Yeah, I think they
- 6:28Speaker 1: did it right. Yeah. So he said no at first,
- 6:30Speaker 1: and then they kept They told him you could do
- 6:33Speaker 1: it the way, and so he said yes, and the
- 6:36Speaker 1: rest is history. Yeah. I feel like just as a
- 6:39Speaker 1: as a person, he kind of embodies almost like the
- 6:42Speaker 1: offensive lineman, like the he's a football guy. You just
- 6:45Speaker 1: look at John Madden, You're like football guy, but has
- 6:47Speaker 1: that kind of affable nature to him. A lot of
- 6:49Speaker 1: offensive linemen sometimes have that that. I think you're right,
- 6:51Speaker 1: it's just he's football. But it offered a way for
- 6:54Speaker 1: fans to kind of connect with and he was genuine.
- 6:56Speaker 1: He wasn't trying to be somebody else. He was just himself.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Remember Fred Williamson came in on Monday Night Football. They
- 7:03Speaker 1: tried using him and he went in and instead of boom,
- 7:07Speaker 1: he started doing pow and it didn't work because people
- 7:10Speaker 1: thought he was just copying Madden. He was like Fred
- 7:12Speaker 1: Williamson came tried to do Monday Night Football after Madden.
- 7:16Speaker 1: It was during I think it was, um, I don't
- 7:19Speaker 1: know if Madden was out or he had just gone
- 7:21Speaker 1: over to Fox or something like that. Recollection you don't
- 7:24Speaker 1: remember that Fred the Yeah, and he started doing POW
- 7:29Speaker 1: and I think he lasted like two games, or maybe
- 7:31Speaker 1: he did a season. I'm not sure, but it didn't work.
- 7:35Speaker 1: Recollection that at all. I saw. I didn't get to
- 7:37Speaker 1: see The The Witch McCall, the the documentary on Fox,
- 7:43Speaker 1: but I did. I saw the very It was on
- 7:45Speaker 1: at like two o'clock on Christmas, and I saw the
- 7:47Speaker 1: very beginning of it. Um and that that's one of
- 7:51Speaker 1: the sections that I saw was him talking about how
- 7:53Speaker 1: he didn't think they broadcast the games properly, and the
- 7:57Speaker 1: color analysts in particular. He didn't think UM did a
- 8:01Speaker 1: great job of of doing it. And he told a great,
- 8:06Speaker 1: great anecdote. It was after that they lost a Monday
- 8:08Speaker 1: night game and Howard Cosell, who he hated, I guess, yeah,
- 8:12Speaker 1: Um had said, I guess Howard saw him after the
- 8:18Speaker 1: game and said, hey, you know, hey, John, great great show,
- 8:22Speaker 1: great show. And Madden was like pissed. It was like this,
- 8:27Speaker 1: it's not a show show, this is this is this
- 8:29Speaker 1: is a game, this is our life, you know, it's
- 8:31Speaker 1: it's not a TV show. Yeah, you know, like it's
- 8:34Speaker 1: not for you for your entertainment, you know. And I
- 8:37Speaker 1: think that sort of probably elicited his thoughts about that
- 8:42Speaker 1: if I can do it the way I think it
- 8:44Speaker 1: should be done. What what was that though? Because I
- 8:47Speaker 1: I came into it, he was kind of already established
- 8:49Speaker 1: as broadcaster, So I just it's John Madden. To me,
- 8:51Speaker 1: I didn't what was different about him that he brought
- 8:53Speaker 1: to it that because it was already established by the
- 8:56Speaker 1: time I kind of tuned in, I didn't notice I changed.
- 8:58Speaker 1: I leave this to the smart people I have. Well,
- 9:00Speaker 1: I just he made it. He was having fun. You know,
- 9:04Speaker 1: you could sense that in like instead of just saying,
- 9:07Speaker 1: you know, this guy ran through the A gap, he
- 9:10Speaker 1: would he would almost say he would say what he
- 9:12Speaker 1: was feeling, Oh he saw that whole and his eyes
- 9:14Speaker 1: lit up, you know. And that's the way he would
- 9:16Speaker 1: present it. And you know, like he would say, like,
- 9:18Speaker 1: you know a lot of people say, you know, you know,
- 9:21Speaker 1: they had a collision at midfield and it's you know,
- 9:24Speaker 1: I just say boom, you know, because that's what it is,
- 9:26Speaker 1: is boom, you know. And so he would do things
- 9:28Speaker 1: like that, you know that a little personality because he
- 9:32Speaker 1: wasn't people have fun with the tell Us straighter. You know,
- 9:35Speaker 1: he'd write over guys and write mustaches on him and
- 9:38Speaker 1: stuff like that, and so he was just he just
- 9:42Speaker 1: it was different. Now. I have to admit when I
- 9:45Speaker 1: first saw him, like as a younger kid, like oh
- 9:47Speaker 1: this is you know, he made it enjoyable. But as
- 9:49Speaker 1: I grew up, it got old for me, you know,
- 9:52Speaker 1: like I got a little tired, forced a little bit.
- 9:55Speaker 1: I have to admit that. But he wasn't the first
- 9:58Speaker 1: like real football guy to go into the boo with right,
- 10:00Speaker 1: like Frank heard, and there were others for him to
- 10:02Speaker 1: go in he flair to him. Well, I think he
- 10:05Speaker 1: also did a good job from what I can remember
- 10:08Speaker 1: as a kid speaking in layman's terms about football. Um,
- 10:14Speaker 1: that's what I don't think, Eric nails, And I think
- 10:16Speaker 1: that's what he did better than other people. I don't
- 10:18Speaker 1: remember him, You're right, Eric, I don't remember him ever
- 10:21Speaker 1: like getting into like cover two shell depth type of talk.
- 10:25Speaker 1: He knew more than the other guys. Yeah, but he
- 10:27Speaker 1: he didn't talk like that yet. He had watched in
- 10:29Speaker 1: a way that you would, right, And that shows me
- 10:32Speaker 1: that he really knew because he could break it down
- 10:34Speaker 1: into Layman's term and not have to use the vernacular. Yeah,
- 10:38Speaker 1: because most people watching aren't gonna understand what you're talking about.
- 10:41Speaker 1: Most people, Yeah, most of the viewers aren't going to
- 10:43Speaker 1: know what he's talking about if he does that, right,
- 10:45Speaker 1: So I think that was all part of it. You know,
- 10:47Speaker 1: it was and it was real. It wasn't It wasn't
- 10:50Speaker 1: an act. It wasn't an act. The more I see
- 10:53Speaker 1: all the TV's have tributes to him on right now,
- 10:55Speaker 1: you know who would have been a great casting for him,
- 10:58Speaker 1: the late Philip seymore Offman. Sure he could have been
- 11:01Speaker 1: a dead ringer for him if they did a movie,
- 11:04Speaker 1: But sadly he's lost him too soon too. It's true.
- 11:08Speaker 1: I know Bill's talking right now. But yeah, so maybe
- 11:12Speaker 1: at some point are you are you recording that? I
- 11:14Speaker 1: don't know if we can play it later or I
- 11:16Speaker 1: don't know, you can get it on Patriots dot com.
- 11:19Speaker 1: It'll be up on Patriots dot com. So I wonder
- 11:21Speaker 1: how many of the current generation really knew A current
- 11:26Speaker 1: generation of football NFL players knew what Madden was before
- 11:31Speaker 1: the video game. Yeah, I don't know, because I think
- 11:33Speaker 1: most of them like they just said. They tossed the
- 11:35Speaker 1: word Madden around all the time, like when you hear
- 11:37Speaker 1: interviews like oh I was playing Madden, and like, I
- 11:40Speaker 1: don't know how many of them actually knew that he
- 11:42Speaker 1: was a a broadcaster or even a football coach before this,
- 11:45Speaker 1: you know, like they know the name from the video game,
- 11:46Speaker 1: Like you said, Yeah, it's those three distinct parts. I
- 11:49Speaker 1: don't know how many of them. I mean, i'd that'd
- 11:50Speaker 1: be a great distribute story to write, is find out
- 11:53Speaker 1: what they know about it. I had a conversation with
- 11:55Speaker 1: my nine year old last night who loves to play Madden.
- 11:57Speaker 1: I don't think it ever occurred on the Madden was
- 11:58Speaker 1: a person, So it was really a little walk down
- 12:01Speaker 1: memory Land was just a video game. I mean, you
- 12:05Speaker 1: know a lot of people, you know, they think of
- 12:08Speaker 1: that video game and they think, oh, John Madden created
- 12:11Speaker 1: a video game. He really didn't. He gave his name,
- 12:14Speaker 1: lent his name. The guy that created it is the
- 12:16Speaker 1: guy that founded Electronic Arts. That's the guy who you know,
- 12:21Speaker 1: and NFL should be doing tributes to because I mean
- 12:25Speaker 1: that game taught football to a lot of young kids. Yeah,
- 12:28Speaker 1: but he was you know, it's another small snippet of
- 12:33Speaker 1: the documentary that I caught was that he was adamant
- 12:35Speaker 1: that it needed to be real and he needed to
- 12:37Speaker 1: have an element of realism. They they didn't know how
- 12:40Speaker 1: they were going to get twenty two guys on the screen,
- 12:42Speaker 1: and he said, well, if it's not eleven on eleven,
- 12:44Speaker 1: it's not football. Yeah, and he refused to do it
- 12:46Speaker 1: if it wasn't going to be real football. Now it's
- 12:49Speaker 1: like almost virtual reality. Yeah it is. And believe me,
- 12:55Speaker 1: it's hard. As somebody who's lost way too many games
- 12:57Speaker 1: in Madden and been yelled at by it. It was
- 12:59Speaker 1: nine year old. He like, as my nine year old
- 13:01Speaker 1: rage quits the game because dad just threw another interception
- 13:04Speaker 1: with Mac Jones, Like what do you want me to do?
- 13:06Speaker 1: It's not easy, Yeah, it's it's a heart. I mean,
- 13:09Speaker 1: you have to really know what you're doing to play Madden.
- 13:13Speaker 1: You do, you do? I've never really played. It's like
- 13:16Speaker 1: I miss out like on a lot of it. Like
- 13:19Speaker 1: I remember him as a coach and I hated the Raiders.
- 13:21Speaker 1: So I hated him because he was the coach of
- 13:23Speaker 1: a team that I didn't like. I mean, I understood
- 13:26Speaker 1: that he was a great coach, but I didn't like
- 13:28Speaker 1: the Raiders. Then like the broadcast thing, you guys know
- 13:32Speaker 1: my feeling on broadcastes. I just I just watched the game.
- 13:34Speaker 1: I don't really care. And then the Madden thing. By
- 13:37Speaker 1: the time Madden came out, I was too old for
- 13:39Speaker 1: video games, so I never really got cut up in
- 13:40Speaker 1: a Madden craze. So like, I feel like I wasn't
- 13:43Speaker 1: really a part of this. But even you know, while
- 13:45Speaker 1: he was a broadcaster, besides like doing the color he
- 13:48Speaker 1: did things that were innovative, like the All Madden Team. Yeah,
- 13:52Speaker 1: you know that, Like he would do that, and it
- 13:55Speaker 1: would be the guys that like John Riggins and L's on,
- 13:58Speaker 1: you know, those kind of guys that that were like
- 14:01Speaker 1: he liked and you know, and then the whole Thanksgimming
- 14:05Speaker 1: thing with the turkey, and you know he was he
- 14:08Speaker 1: did all that, you know, because he was having fun.
- 14:11Speaker 1: And then you know Phil Simms came up with his
- 14:13Speaker 1: Iron Man. Yeah, the Iron Man. All that's because of Phil.
- 14:17Speaker 1: They you know. Yeah, he was in a lot of
- 14:20Speaker 1: and he was a great pitch man. Yeah. Also great
- 14:26Speaker 1: commercials yea tough acting to acting. Yeah, he was a
- 14:34Speaker 1: great pitch guy. He was like Peyton Manning. It was
- 14:37Speaker 1: on everything. Oh my god, I mean the mad money.
- 14:41Speaker 1: I don't I'd love to know how much of him
- 14:42Speaker 1: he must have at least half a billion dollars. Did
- 14:45Speaker 1: you ever read his book One Knee Equals Two Feet? No?
- 14:50Speaker 1: Driver read that? No. It was kind of like a
- 14:53Speaker 1: a biography, autobiography, but also like an explanation of football terms.
- 14:58Speaker 1: And two of the things that I remember reading about
- 15:02Speaker 1: because I was just like, I don't know, I must
- 15:03Speaker 1: have been like fourteen or fifteen when I read that book.
- 15:05Speaker 1: Two things that stood out to me were the reason
- 15:08Speaker 1: why he always drove places and never flew and one
- 15:11Speaker 1: knee equals two feet, which I still used to this
- 15:14Speaker 1: day when I'm watching a game. In a catch, if
- 15:16Speaker 1: a guy has one knee down in bounds a receiver,
- 15:19Speaker 1: that's the equivalent of having two feet in bounds. All
- 15:22Speaker 1: you need is the one knee. And I remember he
- 15:24Speaker 1: said that on a broadcast once and that was in
- 15:27Speaker 1: the book, but that ended up being the title of
- 15:29Speaker 1: the book, one kne Equals two Feet. But like he
- 15:32Speaker 1: was with, I think he was involved with the San
- 15:34Speaker 1: Luis Obispo football team when he was in college, and
- 15:39Speaker 1: there was a plane crash if I'm remembering right, and
- 15:42Speaker 1: like he didn't go on the trip or something. I
- 15:44Speaker 1: forgot the exact details, but it was that plane crash
- 15:50Speaker 1: that forced him to like he decided, I don't never
- 15:53Speaker 1: want to fly again because I'm scared to death of that.
- 15:55Speaker 1: So he always drove everything in a football life. Um,
- 16:00Speaker 1: there was a plane ride where while he was a coach,
- 16:04Speaker 1: after he was a coach, and he said to him,
- 16:06Speaker 1: he said, you know, because it was like really a
- 16:09Speaker 1: lot of um, you know, bouncing around. Yeah, he said
- 16:12Speaker 1: to himself on the flight, fight get off this flight,
- 16:14Speaker 1: and I'm okay, I'm never gonna fly again. And so
- 16:17Speaker 1: then he started taking the train. At first, um it
- 16:20Speaker 1: wasn't a bus, and then eventually he got the bus.
- 16:24Speaker 1: But he did take one more flight and that was
- 16:26Speaker 1: the one to Canton. He took a plane flight to Canton,
- 16:29Speaker 1: and he had the whole plane was full of his people.
- 16:32Speaker 1: And they show him up attempt and faith there. They
- 16:35Speaker 1: show him up there and he says, you know, I
- 16:37Speaker 1: hope everyone has a good time. If you need anything,
- 16:39Speaker 1: you know, anything at all, don't ask me because I'm
- 16:41Speaker 1: not gonna be able to do anything. But he said,
- 16:46Speaker 1: he said, he said himself, I get If I get
- 16:48Speaker 1: off this flight, I'm never gonna fly again. Yeah. Yeah, man,
- 16:52Speaker 1: there's some videos on TikTok. I've never seen like really
- 16:55Speaker 1: bad turbulence, but I've seen some videos on TikTok of
- 16:57Speaker 1: like really bad turbulence, and its just like, please God,
- 17:00Speaker 1: I don't want to have to live through that. I
- 17:01Speaker 1: probably make the same package on that and did some
- 17:04Speaker 1: of that craziness. But yeah, according to Celebrity net worth
- 17:09Speaker 1: dot com, Yeah, two hundred million, that's pretty good. That
- 17:13Speaker 1: bad Madden franchise four billion the video game franchise, video
- 17:16Speaker 1: game franchise. He only got two hundred million. M M.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I might want to redo that contract to get a
- 17:22Speaker 1: billion hundred Yeah, all right, let's Red's kind of right.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I mean it could have been you know, do so
- 17:28Speaker 1: NFL twenty three and it it's the game. It's yeah,
- 17:32Speaker 1: people didn't buy it because of John Madden's name. Now,
- 17:35Speaker 1: that probably gave it some legitimacy when it started, right,
- 17:39Speaker 1: But it's the game that imagine if like, you know,
- 17:45Speaker 1: it was Bill Belichick at that time and they asked
- 17:47Speaker 1: him to do the game. We're going to play with
- 17:50Speaker 1: no quarterbacks. Yea quarterbacks, he'd have no would be no receiver.
- 17:55Speaker 1: See that's a funny. That's a really funny whole being
- 17:58Speaker 1: of like you've got to write your whole game. You
- 17:59Speaker 1: have to write your own playbook every game, like before
- 18:01Speaker 1: you even play the game. You got to create the
- 18:03Speaker 1: ba yourself. You have to you have to have like
- 18:05Speaker 1: a seven day work week and like, all right, toment
- 18:07Speaker 1: the game plan. All right, you're here at two am.
- 18:10Speaker 1: I'm trying to have fun, Bill, That's all I'm trying
- 18:12Speaker 1: to do. I just want to play game. It's like
- 18:14Speaker 1: when you should play the you know, three Nike points,
- 18:17Speaker 1: you know the old football games with the vibrating you know,
- 18:22Speaker 1: you know what I'm talking about. I knew. I didn't
- 18:24Speaker 1: want to say. I just trying to describe it because
- 18:26Speaker 1: I knew he would act electric football, the electric Yeah yeah,
- 18:30Speaker 1: um that you know? Does you remember you take all
- 18:34Speaker 1: the guys and it would take you like five many
- 18:37Speaker 1: way you wanted for as soon as you hit the button,
- 18:39Speaker 1: everybody's like like the guy with the ball would fall down.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Like you know, passing was like the most the most
- 18:46Speaker 1: difficult thing to do. But that little crowd things ridiculous
- 18:49Speaker 1: Oh my god. Yeah, you get the one guy in
- 18:51Speaker 1: the corner just like by himself, just hitting around me
- 18:55Speaker 1: and me and me and FITZI. I'm one of the
- 18:57Speaker 1: early versions of Paths Cast. We did a thing with
- 19:00Speaker 1: that where we'd be like, let's diagram the key play
- 19:02Speaker 1: from the game, and so we'd set it all up
- 19:03Speaker 1: pre so like it's all set up exactly like the
- 19:05Speaker 1: play was good, and you know, let's just see how
- 19:07Speaker 1: it unfolds. So the joke was always at the end,
- 19:09Speaker 1: you describe it, what happened to you hit it, and
- 19:10Speaker 1: then it would just be the total chaos, right, and
- 19:12Speaker 1: that's exactly how it happened on that would move on.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Is it's a good good bit. Well, yeah, they had
- 19:17Speaker 1: an anniversary of that game, and this is we're going
- 19:20Speaker 1: back like I got one. I bought a new one
- 19:22Speaker 1: probably like ten years. Yeah, and you know, it's just
- 19:25Speaker 1: kind of as a lark. You remember, I wrote, I
- 19:27Speaker 1: wrote something about it, and I put you know, like
- 19:30Speaker 1: they sent us like a press release or something that
- 19:32Speaker 1: I you know, I included in you know, the link
- 19:34Speaker 1: in it, and they sent us, you know, the updated
- 19:36Speaker 1: version of the game. We oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 19:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna head out to practice, and then I got
- 19:44Speaker 1: to shoot a quick segment as well. Wow. Well, Michae
- 19:47Speaker 1: will return from practice a little bit after one o'clock. Okay,
- 19:50Speaker 1: all right, Mike's going off to practice. One of the few,
- 19:53Speaker 1: one of the chosen few. Yeah, only twelve people at practice,
- 19:57Speaker 1: now the dandy doesn't. Yeah, so we expect big things.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Don't forget mood. Yeah, okay, all right, so we've got
- 20:09Speaker 1: Jaguars coming up, John Madden, what did you see? What
- 20:13Speaker 1: the Bills did? I mean, I know, you know, Paul,
- 20:17Speaker 1: you don't like it when Patriots fans make fun of
- 20:20Speaker 1: other teams, but they deserve all the joking. No, I'm
- 20:24Speaker 1: all in. What do we do? They came out with
- 20:26Speaker 1: a graphic on social media the Bills are the only
- 20:29Speaker 1: team to beat the Patriots two times in a row
- 20:33Speaker 1: in Gillette Stadium since the Colts did it in the broadcast,
- 20:38Speaker 1: and they made a whole graphic of it and posted
- 20:40Speaker 1: it on Bills social media. Yeah that was on the broadcast. Yeah, yeah, okay,
- 20:45Speaker 1: that was like a popular stat that Yeah, but the
- 20:49Speaker 1: Bills put that out on the social media this morning. Yeah.
- 20:53Speaker 1: And I don't have I don't have a huge problem.
- 20:55Speaker 1: You don't. I don't, Okay, I mean I would have
- 20:59Speaker 1: a problem if it was like we're gonna get back
- 21:01Speaker 1: to billboards and stuff like that like that. That stuff
- 21:04Speaker 1: is weak to me. Like if if the Bills made
- 21:08Speaker 1: a big deal of like that kind of crap that
- 21:10Speaker 1: their fans do, that's weak. I think. Wow, I don't know.
- 21:15Speaker 1: I mean it's I mean, it was all over the game,
- 21:18Speaker 1: but that's other people to do it. But to put
- 21:20Speaker 1: it on their own social media stuff, we don't. We don't,
- 21:24Speaker 1: we don't accentuate. Let's put the banner up. Let's put
- 21:26Speaker 1: the banners up. Let's get banners. See that's what I'm saying,
- 21:29Speaker 1: Like I'll make fun of that. Yeah, like I saw that.
- 21:32Speaker 1: Basically they put a banner on social media is what
- 21:34Speaker 1: they did. That's not that's a stat stat. It's an
- 21:38Speaker 1: sid stat now you know me, I don't have any
- 21:40Speaker 1: made a graphic out of it, a whole graphic with
- 21:42Speaker 1: artwork and everything, like, yeah, I don't have any use
- 21:46Speaker 1: for it. I would agree with you, but I don't
- 21:47Speaker 1: have any use for any of it. So I don't
- 21:49Speaker 1: want to offend. I know that we have like an
- 21:51Speaker 1: ever growing empire or of that department in our organization.
- 21:55Speaker 1: But I don't have any use for any of those things. Yeah,
- 22:00Speaker 1: so if that's the if, if that's the threshold, then
- 22:03Speaker 1: I think it was dumb. But I mean, like, I
- 22:06Speaker 1: think that's what every team does, is they accentuate the
- 22:08Speaker 1: positive stats that's their team exactly, you know, achieves. I
- 22:14Speaker 1: think that's what that's what they're a social media departments.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Like if you had two hundred fifty yards rushing, or
- 22:19Speaker 1: if somebody had five times, yeah fine, or you win
- 22:22Speaker 1: a game with three passes, yeah, which may or may
- 22:25Speaker 1: not have happened three weeks ago. I don't know. Patriots
- 22:27Speaker 1: didn't put that up. We didn't make a graphic Patriots
- 22:29Speaker 1: had three passes and won the game. We never did that.
- 22:32Speaker 1: We put it in our postgame notes though, and we
- 22:34Speaker 1: put that out there all the time. That's that's just
- 22:37Speaker 1: that was just the stats of the game exactly. But
- 22:40Speaker 1: you know that's a stature. The first team to beat
- 22:42Speaker 1: the Patriots twice in Gillette Stadium since the coast. You know,
- 22:45Speaker 1: it's like, Okay, I guess some people could look at
- 22:48Speaker 1: it as a compliment to the post it's a compliment
- 22:50Speaker 1: to the Patriots. It's never happened since oh five oh six. Yeah,
- 22:55Speaker 1: I don't know. It's an accomplishment. A lot of teams
- 22:58Speaker 1: have had a chance to beat them and can secutar
- 23:00Speaker 1: years and Gillette Stadium. They're not gonna win over fifteen year,
- 23:03Speaker 1: not been able to do it. They're not gonna win
- 23:05Speaker 1: the super Bowl because of that. Yes, I agree, I'm
- 23:07Speaker 1: telling you, I would agree. I'm telling you that's going
- 23:10Speaker 1: to trip them up. That's right. Okay, that's right, all right,
- 23:12Speaker 1: as long as we're talking, I would agree rationally here.
- 23:14Speaker 1: I would agree that's right, and I know our listeners
- 23:16Speaker 1: are with me. I agree. Yeah, that's why they will lose.
- 23:21Speaker 1: That's right, all right. Five five PATS five hundred is
- 23:24Speaker 1: the a stick at outline web Radio super Bowl because
- 23:27Speaker 1: of that? Because Mike McCarthey just rolled out of bed.
- 23:29Speaker 1: What the hell is he doing? I mean, we got
- 23:32Speaker 1: nothing to say about that. Wow, Our guys, our guy's
- 23:35Speaker 1: track records a little different than that guy, that's true.
- 23:38Speaker 1: But what's he's gotta He's got a hoodie that says
- 23:42Speaker 1: victory with the Dallas Victory. Matt, Please tell me you wow. Wow.
- 23:55Speaker 1: Web Radio at Patriots dot com is the email address,
- 23:58Speaker 1: um so what anything we you know, we talked about
- 24:03Speaker 1: the COVID the situation with the Jazz, like it's I
- 24:06Speaker 1: agree with you. They have to they have to sort
- 24:08Speaker 1: of lay lay the woods. They got to Jacksonville. We better.
- 24:12Speaker 1: This is uh, this is like one of those old
- 24:15Speaker 1: Jets weeks where like the you know, the Jets word
- 24:19Speaker 1: horrible and horrible and there's hard it's hard to get
- 24:25Speaker 1: excited about this kind of Will you be upset if
- 24:28Speaker 1: the Patriots only do what's necessary to win? In other words,
- 24:33Speaker 1: they you know, they come out, establish the run, find
- 24:36Speaker 1: out we can do whatever we want on the run,
- 24:37Speaker 1: and they never really pass a lot and they just
- 24:40Speaker 1: keep the ball and run the ball and win the
- 24:42Speaker 1: game like twenty one three. Would you be okay with that? Yeah? Absolutely, Yeah,
- 24:47Speaker 1: because because we had some people saying, you know, you know,
- 24:50Speaker 1: if they have a chance to give Matt Jones more work,
- 24:53Speaker 1: give him the work. Yeah. But I'm not a big
- 24:56Speaker 1: fan of the you know, five twenty five yards for borrow,
- 25:00Speaker 1: like you know, which I'm by the way, I'm sure
- 25:02Speaker 1: they put up graphic up for that and the like,
- 25:06Speaker 1: really I'm not really a big fan of that kind
- 25:08Speaker 1: of stuff in blowouts now if it comes organically, that's different, right,
- 25:15Speaker 1: Like I don't need like the Jets win wouldn't have
- 25:18Speaker 1: been any different to me if it was thirty four
- 25:20Speaker 1: to thirteen as opposed to fifty four to thirteen. Like
- 25:22Speaker 1: anything like after a certain point, anything that happens to
- 25:24Speaker 1: me is kind of irrelevant. Yeah. Now, I understand if
- 25:27Speaker 1: Bill looks at it a little bit differently and says
- 25:29Speaker 1: something like that that Mac could use fill in the blank.
- 25:34Speaker 1: And if that's what he chooses to do because of that,
- 25:36Speaker 1: I have no problem with that either. He might think
- 25:39Speaker 1: that Mac could could benefit from some of that. I
- 25:42Speaker 1: just want them to get out of this game healthy
- 25:48Speaker 1: and with a win. I mean, it doesn't have to
- 25:51Speaker 1: be perfect, doesn't have to be pretty, but like you
- 25:54Speaker 1: need this game against an opponent that has no business
- 25:58Speaker 1: coming in here and winning. Just get the lead and
- 26:02Speaker 1: get off the field and get to weeks because it's
- 26:05Speaker 1: gonna come down to week eighteen. You don't care about
- 26:07Speaker 1: going to come to a week, you don't care about
- 26:08Speaker 1: style points. And then no, I don't little, I mean
- 26:10Speaker 1: I do, really, I mean I do a little, Like
- 26:12Speaker 1: I don't want to be three to nothing. They twenty
- 26:15Speaker 1: four and in Jacksonville, ends the game on the on
- 26:18Speaker 1: the you know, like they did against the Jets, Right,
- 26:19Speaker 1: that's that's a problematic. Then then then you're scared to
- 26:22Speaker 1: death to go to Miami. I mean, you think they
- 26:24Speaker 1: wanted to be any important thing, But I wouldn't feel
- 26:27Speaker 1: great about that. But I'm talking about what you said. Yeah,
- 26:29Speaker 1: they went. They take control of the game from the outset,
- 26:32Speaker 1: and they're never in trouble care if they win by
- 26:35Speaker 1: forty or twenty, right, that's kind of how I feel,
- 26:38Speaker 1: and and get out of the game without any major,
- 26:40Speaker 1: you know, health issues. And because it's I think there's
- 26:44Speaker 1: gonna be so much on the line around the league
- 26:46Speaker 1: in Week eighteen that it's gonna be one of the
- 26:49Speaker 1: more you know, consequential weeks we've had in this league
- 26:53Speaker 1: in a while. You know, And I'm talking about you
- 26:55Speaker 1: take control of the game from the outset. Yeah, so
- 26:58Speaker 1: you get you get a lead, and then you throw
- 27:00Speaker 1: them back in the second half and run the clock,
- 27:02Speaker 1: just grind it away. That's fine. Now, if you get
- 27:05Speaker 1: a couple of picks sixes in the fourth quarter and
- 27:07Speaker 1: that's why you win by twenty, you're gonna you know,
- 27:10Speaker 1: kind of like Atlanta. Yeah, you know, the Atlanta game
- 27:12Speaker 1: was reasonably competitive for a long time, even though it
- 27:16Speaker 1: looked like the Patriots are going to win it the
- 27:17Speaker 1: whole way, and then they finished with you know, interceptions
- 27:20Speaker 1: against three different quarterbacks. But that to me is different
- 27:30Speaker 1: than just you you described. They just come out, they
- 27:33Speaker 1: get a lead, and then they just do whatever they
- 27:35Speaker 1: can to get out of there. And right, I have
- 27:38Speaker 1: no problem with that. Okay, that's because I know some
- 27:40Speaker 1: people will like they'll be like, why didn't they let
- 27:42Speaker 1: mac pas you know needs with the receivers, and there's
- 27:47Speaker 1: a segment of the population that's always going to be
- 27:49Speaker 1: upset when they win. Yeah, no matter what there are
- 27:52Speaker 1: and we get you get them, I get you get
- 27:55Speaker 1: Damian Harris has three touchdowns. Henry said that during the
- 28:01Speaker 1: game exactly exactly where's Henry, you know, So you do
- 28:04Speaker 1: get an element of that. We get some of it
- 28:06Speaker 1: in the post game show too. Um, but I think
- 28:09Speaker 1: at this point they got to get back on track.
- 28:11Speaker 1: That's the number one item of importance. Um. Okay, So
- 28:16Speaker 1: let's just open it up. We'll see what our listeners
- 28:19Speaker 1: have to say, what they're thinking about. Start off with, um,
- 28:22Speaker 1: someone named next Level Next Level. Madden was absolutely the
- 28:26Speaker 1: draw for people to play the games early on. For
- 28:29Speaker 1: the first eleven years of the game, it was just
- 28:31Speaker 1: him on the cover. Since two thousand and one, it's
- 28:34Speaker 1: always been a player there. Now, Okay, didn't know that
- 28:38Speaker 1: fun fact. Yeah, I think he was actually also on
- 28:40Speaker 1: the sideline too. But I'm just wondering if if that's
- 28:44Speaker 1: if that's accurate, I'd be curious to hear from from
- 28:46Speaker 1: the Madden Knights, you know, the people that play that.
- 28:48Speaker 1: Do you really did you really buy it and play it?
- 28:51Speaker 1: Because Madden was on the cover back then, right were
- 28:54Speaker 1: I'm getting scoffing shaking, But it was because it was
- 28:57Speaker 1: a football game, football video, it was, and it was
- 29:00Speaker 1: the best football game, correct, Yeah, Bill writes in from DC.
- 29:05Speaker 1: The passing at John Madden got me thinking how much
- 29:08Speaker 1: more fun the NFL used to be back in the seventies,
- 29:10Speaker 1: eighties and nineties. Players like Namith and Butt Gis and
- 29:13Speaker 1: me and Joe Green, we're all larger than life, and
- 29:16Speaker 1: guys like Madden and Cosell and Dandy Don Meredith were
- 29:19Speaker 1: personalities that made you want to tune into a game,
- 29:22Speaker 1: unlike the cookie cutter announcers today who all sound the same.
- 29:25Speaker 1: There was no social media. See, actually got to decide
- 29:28Speaker 1: on your own who you liked and didn't like. Today's
- 29:31Speaker 1: players are better trained and probably more skilled, but there
- 29:34Speaker 1: aren't many that you want to go and have a
- 29:37Speaker 1: beer with. Cold. Call me old school, but there will
- 29:41Speaker 1: never be another John Madden, and that's really too bad. Okay, Yeah,
- 29:47Speaker 1: I mean I think that he's confusing the play by
- 29:51Speaker 1: play guys with what John Madden did, because I think
- 29:55Speaker 1: the play by play guys are a cookie cutter. I
- 29:58Speaker 1: think there's no question about it. They all all sort
- 30:00Speaker 1: of to me, I can't even recognize who they are
- 30:03Speaker 1: sometimes I think they all sound so similar. Um wow, wow,
- 30:12Speaker 1: I think they all sound the same. But the color guys,
- 30:15Speaker 1: the color analysts, I don't think they're all cookie cutter.
- 30:19Speaker 1: I think you know, like them or hate them. I
- 30:22Speaker 1: think Madden had a different style. I think Tony Romo
- 30:26Speaker 1: has a different style. Yeah, you know, I think play
- 30:31Speaker 1: before it, and I think Chris Collinsworth has a different style.
- 30:34Speaker 1: Like I don't think those guys are cookie cutter. Yeah.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Now again, I'm not telling you I like, dislike, or
- 30:39Speaker 1: whatever any of these guys, But I don't think they're
- 30:42Speaker 1: all the same. Yeah, I think the play by play
- 30:45Speaker 1: guys largely are all the same. Yeah. Yeah. Now, I
- 30:49Speaker 1: think Jim Nance is probably the Jim Nance and Joe Buck.
- 30:52Speaker 1: I think friends. They're the best at it. That's why
- 30:55Speaker 1: they're they're the lead guys on their respective networks. I
- 30:57Speaker 1: think they're better than the rest. But let's face it,
- 31:01Speaker 1: they all say and sound the same thing. It's it's
- 31:03Speaker 1: the same Tommy, how are you this evening? Yeah? I
- 31:06Speaker 1: like Buck, I like I like NaN's, I like Alan Michaels,
- 31:10Speaker 1: Michael was Day, He's I think a little bit you know,
- 31:14Speaker 1: past it at this point. But yeah, but like story.
- 31:18Speaker 1: But you look at a guy like Phil Simms as
- 31:20Speaker 1: a color guy. I hated him, not because he was
- 31:24Speaker 1: a giant and all that. He didn't have much to say,
- 31:27Speaker 1: he didn't have it, but again his style, but his
- 31:29Speaker 1: style was different than a lot of other guys too.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Now I don't I agree with you. I don't think
- 31:32Speaker 1: he was great at it. I think Troy Aikman, um,
- 31:35Speaker 1: he doesn't sound the same to me as I think
- 31:37Speaker 1: he's gotten better. I think Aikman and Tony Romo couldn't
- 31:40Speaker 1: be more more different. Their approach, and I think Romo
- 31:43Speaker 1: coming on the scene pushed Aikman. I think to me,
- 31:47Speaker 1: Aikman was almost like Phil Simms, didn't really do much.
- 31:50Speaker 1: But I think he's gotten better. I think he's gotten
- 31:53Speaker 1: a little bit what I liked about Madden. And I
- 31:56Speaker 1: know Patriots fans still mock him, like they had that
- 31:58Speaker 1: embarrassing Madden chant at the opener Gillette Stadium after we
- 32:02Speaker 1: won the Super Bowl. Yeah, you know, because he deigned
- 32:06Speaker 1: to have an opinion that was different than what Bill
- 32:09Speaker 1: Belichick did, and and I know it was you know,
- 32:13Speaker 1: wasn't really overly mean spirited, but I thought it was unnecessary.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Like what I liked about what Madden did there was
- 32:20Speaker 1: he immediately said he was wrong, like right not. He
- 32:24Speaker 1: didn't wait three days and say in retrospect, you know,
- 32:28Speaker 1: he immediately said, I can't believe what they're doing now.
- 32:30Speaker 1: I wouldn't have done as a as a coach and
- 32:32Speaker 1: as an analyst, I wouldn't. I wouldn't have done this.
- 32:34Speaker 1: This isn't what I would have done. But you got
- 32:36Speaker 1: to give Charlie White's credit for doing this. And then
- 32:39Speaker 1: when it was over and they finished it, he said,
- 32:41Speaker 1: what Tom Brady just did gave me goose bumps, right,
- 32:45Speaker 1: so like live in the moment he said, wow, yeah,
- 32:50Speaker 1: And I give him a lot of credit for But
- 32:51Speaker 1: I think a lot of other guys would have said,
- 32:53Speaker 1: well it worked, but they were lucky, right, yeah, because
- 32:56Speaker 1: they didn't do what I said. I can't be I
- 32:58Speaker 1: can't be wrong. Yeah. So but that was part of
- 33:02Speaker 1: his The analytics say you shouldn't be going for that.
- 33:04Speaker 1: I was part of it. And I do think a
- 33:07Speaker 1: lot of those guys, the ones that are best at
- 33:10Speaker 1: being color analysts, don't just tell you what happened on
- 33:12Speaker 1: the play. They're telling you they're talking about strategy, like
- 33:14Speaker 1: they're watching the replay of a penalty and they're telling
- 33:17Speaker 1: you that's that's a penalty that's got to get called.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Or they're talking about strategy. Oh, that's a bad time
- 33:23Speaker 1: out there, like you need like they're alive because and
- 33:26Speaker 1: that's why so many of them are quarterbacks, because they're
- 33:28Speaker 1: doing the two minute drill as it's happened. Yeah. I
- 33:30Speaker 1: think it's very impressive when you watch a broadcast and
- 33:33Speaker 1: whoever's the the analyst, as soon as a play is
- 33:37Speaker 1: over and you know the truck is re racking the
- 33:41Speaker 1: replay to have them show it again. The player who's
- 33:44Speaker 1: doing that already knows, like you know, like a sack happens,
- 33:48Speaker 1: and they're like, oh, this happened because you know the
- 33:50Speaker 1: safety was moving back here and the stunt was like
- 33:52Speaker 1: he saw all that in the why did he go? Yeah,
- 33:54Speaker 1: he wanted to go here, but they he took away
- 33:58Speaker 1: and then by the time he looked out. I think
- 33:59Speaker 1: that's very yea, And I thought that that was to me,
- 34:02Speaker 1: that was collinsworth strength. He would come in and give
- 34:05Speaker 1: you that lineman who missed the block or had the
- 34:07Speaker 1: block almost immediate immediately. Now now he forces it to
- 34:10Speaker 1: the guy who was highly highly ranked in PF and
- 34:13Speaker 1: I'm telling he does. Yeah, they agree, they go to
- 34:17Speaker 1: packages that he sets up and then you watch the
- 34:19Speaker 1: replay and it didn't happen. But I'm I'm talking about
- 34:21Speaker 1: like when Collinsworth first stars. Yes, I agree, that's what
- 34:24Speaker 1: separated him from others. Now, maybe he had great spotters too.
- 34:28Speaker 1: Maybe they're in their ear, Oh that's the left guard
- 34:30Speaker 1: that you know. They do that for them When they
- 34:33Speaker 1: get the replays, they're getting told this is where it happened.
- 34:36Speaker 1: You know, as they're getting the replay and then they
- 34:38Speaker 1: talk about it. But I agree with you that Collinsworth
- 34:40Speaker 1: was good at that. I think now when he does it,
- 34:43Speaker 1: it's always geared to his PF the guys that are
- 34:45Speaker 1: ranked high. And then they're like, you know, watch Fred Kirsh.
- 34:48Speaker 1: You know, he's really done a great job. And then
- 34:50Speaker 1: they show a replay of you know, they'll have a
- 34:52Speaker 1: package of plays for that guy and you'll see like
- 34:54Speaker 1: three plays, two of them that he did nothing on. Yep,
- 34:57Speaker 1: because they just force it, because those are the guys
- 34:59Speaker 1: that colin's Worth picks because they're highly ranked, and pfat
- 35:03Speaker 1: Eldred's is on the ace ticket outline. What's up, Eldred?
- 35:09Speaker 1: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I'm how y'all doing. Man? Did
- 35:12Speaker 1: you hear somebody scared something on the road there? Yeah? Yeah,
- 35:15Speaker 1: they jumped like hell, I'm sorry, bro, I'm sorry, I'm not. No.
- 35:21Speaker 1: There is this guy he's picking up fields of cardboard, right, yeah,
- 35:25Speaker 1: he's backing back and I blow them. So he got
- 35:29Speaker 1: out of the store looking like no, man, I'm I'm
- 35:31Speaker 1: on the phone. But he don't know. You're just a
- 35:34Speaker 1: cardinal driver. Yeah, but Paul, yes, sir, I'm a maddened stereologist.
- 35:39Speaker 1: I've been playing Madden since it came out on take
- 35:41Speaker 1: it okay and uh at bottle of Nintendo, and they
- 35:45Speaker 1: had to look at the other football game, but it
- 35:47Speaker 1: wasn't Madden. So when my buddies came, he said, uh, Jerry,
- 35:51Speaker 1: what are you what you're doing? I said, I'm playing
- 35:54Speaker 1: this lutendo. He said, I got a game for you.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Once you play at you you never put it down.
- 35:58Speaker 1: So we were like there. He bought Sticker Genness and
- 36:01Speaker 1: he bought Matt. Matt was on the first four covers,
- 36:04Speaker 1: maybe five, but after that it was players or something
- 36:07Speaker 1: of something Ela. And it's like I said, I missed
- 36:11Speaker 1: John Madden because I loved this um his game and
- 36:13Speaker 1: most most time you buy the game calls him Madden.
- 36:16Speaker 1: You don't buy another football game if it ain't named Matta.
- 36:19Speaker 1: It ain't the same, you know. But as the coach
- 36:21Speaker 1: and analyst, I loved them coming up because because I
- 36:24Speaker 1: like the way he explained things, way he's talking and
- 36:27Speaker 1: you know, like I said, put all this STUDIASMM in
- 36:29Speaker 1: in and the writing. You know, I heard it when
- 36:32Speaker 1: I heard it last night that he paid at eighty five. Yeah,
- 36:35Speaker 1: you know, but uh, like I said, it's it's this game.
- 36:39Speaker 1: I think his name was only just just to sell
- 36:41Speaker 1: the games. I think he was a part of it,
- 36:43Speaker 1: you know, the diagram, the players to plays, the rating
- 36:47Speaker 1: and all of that, you know. And one thing I
- 36:50Speaker 1: can't say about him. If your team ranked seventy six,
- 36:53Speaker 1: they play like they're seventy six even now I play,
- 36:58Speaker 1: I'm like, dude, I'm having a problem with him. I
- 37:00Speaker 1: found Patriot, but I like playing a franchise, so that
- 37:03Speaker 1: way I could be the GM and I go draft
- 37:05Speaker 1: what I want to draft. Right, there's different modes, okay, yeah,
- 37:10Speaker 1: different modes. Yeah. And then and you can't make your
- 37:13Speaker 1: own playbook up play with other teams because offense and
- 37:17Speaker 1: you you know, you could use that. So sometimes but
- 37:20Speaker 1: like not recently. I used to have fifteen to ten
- 37:23Speaker 1: guys when we play a Madden Boat, so Eldred as
- 37:26Speaker 1: as a as a football gamer, do you remember that
- 37:28Speaker 1: game that came out to compete with Madden and they
- 37:31Speaker 1: couldn't use like the actual NFL names, um and it
- 37:35Speaker 1: was like more violent and like there was trash talking
- 37:39Speaker 1: and all that stuff. Do you remember that? And the
- 37:41Speaker 1: l No, it wasn't XFL it was. It was what
- 37:44Speaker 1: was it, NFL blitz? You could like play drive the
- 37:46Speaker 1: people when you NL blitz, right, like that game? No,
- 37:49Speaker 1: you didn't like that one. I took it back and
- 37:51Speaker 1: told them something wrong. We didn't got my money back?
- 37:52Speaker 1: Oh was that right? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, it's just like
- 37:56Speaker 1: nc it like the football college football game. If they NCUBA,
- 38:00Speaker 1: you know, I don't get it. Yeah, they got the
- 38:02Speaker 1: real rate and real whatever. Yeah, but that game couldn't compete. Yeah,
- 38:06Speaker 1: a lot like a lot of people are like, oh
- 38:07Speaker 1: this is gonna you know, put Madden to bed, and
- 38:10Speaker 1: never did it. Never did they never did. So get
- 38:14Speaker 1: back to the Patriots. I heard y'all say this something earlier. Okay,
- 38:18Speaker 1: would y'all be surprised if they laid another egg and
- 38:21Speaker 1: lost to Dexterville. I would be surprised. I'd be stunned,
- 38:24Speaker 1: I'd be I am not emotionally prepared to lose the game,
- 38:28Speaker 1: nor am I. Yeah no, I'm not prepared to lose because,
- 38:32Speaker 1: like I said, I don't talk so much noise lately,
- 38:34Speaker 1: and they to my well, y'all, little D's two, you
- 38:36Speaker 1: out or you lose one and Miami win? Yeah out?
- 38:41Speaker 1: You know if the only way I would believe that
- 38:44Speaker 1: would happen is if they told me that they kidnapped
- 38:47Speaker 1: the entire Patriots coaching staff and any player with over
- 38:51Speaker 1: three years of experience and that's how they played the game.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Because there's no way that's gonna happen, No way. I
- 38:57Speaker 1: don't think through that. I think I think did surprised
- 38:59Speaker 1: in Miami because I think they're embarrassed because they went
- 39:03Speaker 1: from first to worse, and you know, and they and
- 39:05Speaker 1: everything right there, and when they played against Buffalo, the coach,
- 39:09Speaker 1: you know, they were shocked Buffalo. They were spelling. Yeah,
- 39:12Speaker 1: you know, because I don't think you know, I never
- 39:14Speaker 1: saw the game yet either, but I keep hearing about
- 39:17Speaker 1: it from everybody else that's in my family. Treat Yeah,
- 39:20Speaker 1: I know, Well the Miami game. I won't be shocked
- 39:22Speaker 1: if they lose that game, you know, And that that
- 39:26Speaker 1: comes down to, Okay, you can be embarrassed and you
- 39:29Speaker 1: can say we want to get but do you have
- 39:30Speaker 1: the answers? Do you have the players who could do
- 39:33Speaker 1: what you need to do. I don't know. I don't
- 39:36Speaker 1: know the answer to that. You know, we'll see. You know.
- 39:39Speaker 1: It's not like in the past where oh, the Patriots
- 39:42Speaker 1: lose the game, and they never lose two in a row,
- 39:44Speaker 1: you know, because they were just that team, you know,
- 39:47Speaker 1: But I don't. It's they're not that team anymore, or
- 39:50Speaker 1: at least for now, you know. And at the same time,
- 39:53Speaker 1: the other teams because of that, are more capable of
- 39:57Speaker 1: beating them. Yeah, you know. Yeah, so Paul, one question, sure, Paul, Yeah,
- 40:05Speaker 1: just not just not a shot at May you think
- 40:07Speaker 1: he's the guy? Yes or no? It's a great question.
- 40:12Speaker 1: It's a great question because I like, I like the
- 40:14Speaker 1: simplicity of it. Yeah, either you do or you don't.
- 40:18Speaker 1: I'm gonna say no. Wow. Like when when I say
- 40:21Speaker 1: the guy, I don't mean that he's not an NFL quarterback.
- 40:24Speaker 1: He is. I think he is an NFL I don't
- 40:26Speaker 1: think he's I don't think you're gonna win with I
- 40:27Speaker 1: don't think you gonna win it all with him. Oh Okay,
- 40:30Speaker 1: that that when I say no, that's what I'm talking about.
- 40:32Speaker 1: Is he a guy that can win you a championship? Yeah?
- 40:34Speaker 1: I don't. Well, he won't be the reason anyway, but
- 40:38Speaker 1: I don't think you can. I don't think. I don't
- 40:40Speaker 1: care as long he says if he's the Quarterback Championship team.
- 40:43Speaker 1: I'm happy. I mean, if you're asking me right now,
- 40:45Speaker 1: I like the way that that Eldred put that very
- 40:47Speaker 1: simple yes or no. Yep, I'm gonna say no. All right,
- 40:50Speaker 1: thanks Eldred. All right, we have it on record. I
- 40:57Speaker 1: would like to see him in year two. I mean,
- 40:59Speaker 1: if you ask me now, it's a numb listen. I
- 41:01Speaker 1: mean I do. I do understand that there will be
- 41:05Speaker 1: jumps in his play. He's gonna get better, and you
- 41:09Speaker 1: got to play the game. When someone asked you a question,
- 41:10Speaker 1: you play the game and you give him. But nobody knows.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Nobody knows. Bill Belichick doesn't know. Yeah, I mean that
- 41:17Speaker 1: one's probably going to come back and haunt me because
- 41:20Speaker 1: you know, you know where I work and what we do.
- 41:22Speaker 1: But if you're asking me right now, yeah, that's my answer.
- 41:27Speaker 1: If you ask me right now, if he's going to
- 41:29Speaker 1: be the quarterback for more than five years, I would
- 41:31Speaker 1: say no too, Like I just well, let's you know,
- 41:34Speaker 1: and this is you know, and I might get killed
- 41:37Speaker 1: for this too. But on one of your shows, they
- 41:39Speaker 1: did the redraft and they redrafted like not just the
- 41:43Speaker 1: Sears quarterback batch, but they merged it with like the
- 41:46Speaker 1: last two or three years, right, and so they redid it.
- 41:49Speaker 1: I need some refreshing them. Yeah, and and so Mac
- 41:53Speaker 1: on this one person's draft, I don't even know who
- 41:57Speaker 1: these fill in hosts were, but on this one person's draft,
- 42:00Speaker 1: Burrow was number one. Okay, so he's three years ago,
- 42:04Speaker 1: but I know he lost last year because of the injury. No,
- 42:07Speaker 1: it was last year. Him and Herbert were rookies last year.
- 42:11Speaker 1: When did he get hurt last year? Okay? So he
- 42:14Speaker 1: had Burrow number one and he had Mac's number three,
- 42:18Speaker 1: so behind Herbert and Herbert was number two, right, Dexter Lawrence,
- 42:22Speaker 1: Dexter Lawrence, Trevor Lawrence wasn't even in the top five,
- 42:27Speaker 1: like you know, to me, that's just you're not watching.
- 42:32Speaker 1: And you also don't you know all you're doing is
- 42:34Speaker 1: looking at stats, right, you know, because you can look
- 42:37Speaker 1: at Zach Wilson and Trevor Lawrence and say that the
- 42:39Speaker 1: like the I mean, if they're not the worst two,
- 42:41Speaker 1: they're they're down there, right, But you haven't watched it's
- 42:44Speaker 1: not the whole I haven't seen him do the whole picture.
- 42:45Speaker 1: I would even say that about Zach Wilson, who I
- 42:47Speaker 1: think Trevor Lawrence has been better than Zach Wilson, but
- 42:51Speaker 1: Zach Wilson since he came back. And I wrote this
- 42:53Speaker 1: in the note yesterday too, that there is not a
- 42:57Speaker 1: roster that's less equipped to win games right now than
- 43:00Speaker 1: the Jets. They're they're by far and away that the
- 43:01Speaker 1: youngest team in football with the first time coach and
- 43:05Speaker 1: coordinator right, yes, in coordinators with something that you pointed
- 43:08Speaker 1: out a lot while we were playing the Jets. The
- 43:11Speaker 1: last five games, he only you know, after throw I
- 43:14Speaker 1: think he threw nine picks, I want to say nine
- 43:17Speaker 1: picks in the first six games, and then he came
- 43:19Speaker 1: back in the last five he's only thrown two. Now
- 43:23Speaker 1: he's not lighting it up. He's not throwing for five
- 43:25Speaker 1: hundred yards like Joe Burrow. But they're not going to
- 43:28Speaker 1: do that. That's not how they're built that they can't.
- 43:30Speaker 1: They don't have that kind of personnel. Right he's running,
- 43:34Speaker 1: you know, and protecting the ball a little bit better.
- 43:37Speaker 1: They found a way to win a couple of games.
- 43:39Speaker 1: I think they're two and three, and the five since
- 43:40Speaker 1: he came back, you know, they beat Jacksonville. So I mean,
- 43:44Speaker 1: take it for whatever you think it's worth but there's
- 43:47Speaker 1: been some growth there. I think during the course of
- 43:50Speaker 1: the season. He's not nine and six because he doesn't
- 43:53Speaker 1: have the structure around him that that Mac Jones has. Right,
- 43:56Speaker 1: you know, what do you think, Matt, I mean like
- 43:59Speaker 1: honest question, but really on his question, what do you
- 44:01Speaker 1: think mac Jones's record would be if he was coach,
- 44:04Speaker 1: if he was quarterback of the Jets? Right now? Just
- 44:07Speaker 1: take Mac just same right now, just take take Wilson
- 44:12Speaker 1: Jones with Robert Salah and and everything else that's going on.
- 44:16Speaker 1: It wouldn't be won another game, but because he wouldn't
- 44:19Speaker 1: throw as many interceptions. But here's the thing, I don't
- 44:21Speaker 1: know the same person who had Lawrence out of the
- 44:24Speaker 1: top five. He was asked the question if Trevor Lawrence
- 44:28Speaker 1: was the quarterback of the Patriots, would they have an
- 44:30Speaker 1: extra win? And he said yes, So how can you
- 44:33Speaker 1: have him Macon three and him five? So that's proof
- 44:36Speaker 1: that all you're doing is looking like you're looking at
- 44:38Speaker 1: the spreadsheet and you're seeing that Mac Jones is the
- 44:41Speaker 1: highest rated rookie quarterback. I mean, mac Jones's numbers are
- 44:46Speaker 1: very very similar to Davis Mills. But Davis Mills Place
- 44:50Speaker 1: for Houston. So they've won two games that he started. Yeah,
- 44:53Speaker 1: because they suck. Listen, I'm very happy that Mac Jones
- 44:57Speaker 1: is the quarterback of the New England Patriots, but that
- 44:59Speaker 1: doesn't I can't recognize that there are other young quarterbacks
- 45:04Speaker 1: who are better, right in my opinion, a lot of
- 45:07Speaker 1: people's opinions, right, And I also think that everybody it's
- 45:11Speaker 1: it's funny you start saying things so much and then
- 45:15Speaker 1: when it happens, you forget about it. Everybody said that,
- 45:18Speaker 1: by far and away, Mac Jones was the most NFL
- 45:21Speaker 1: ready quarterback coming out, that's right, And then he ended
- 45:23Speaker 1: up being the most NFL ready quarterback coming out, and
- 45:27Speaker 1: now it's like, oh, we missed it, we missed it. No,
- 45:31Speaker 1: you didn't miss it. No one missed it. Everybody thought
- 45:33Speaker 1: he was the most NFL ready coming out, and they
- 45:35Speaker 1: still went with the guys they thought were better long
- 45:38Speaker 1: term players from a talent perspective. Long term player, you
- 45:41Speaker 1: don't draft a guy because you think he's going to
- 45:44Speaker 1: be the best that year, right, solely on that reason. Yeah,
- 45:48Speaker 1: all right, we're gonna take a quick break when we

- 56:53Speaker 1: on the announcers room. She loves the whole industry. Yeah,
- 56:57Speaker 1: loves plugged in. Rick writes in it really me way
- 57:00Speaker 1: how much time has flown by that. Brad Johnson, Jeff Hostetler,
- 57:04Speaker 1: and Mark Rippon probably couldn't lead their teams to a title.
- 57:07Speaker 1: The league really has changed that much, hasn't it. Yeah,
- 57:13Speaker 1: I mean Trent Doper. I throw him in there too,
- 57:17Speaker 1: Rick and Louisville. If Nick Foles can lead his team
- 57:19Speaker 1: to a championship, I'm not ready to say Mac can,
- 57:21Speaker 1: at least not yet. He didn't. I don't confuse winning
- 57:26Speaker 1: a game as a backup quarterback with leading your team.
- 57:29Speaker 1: Jeff Hostetler didn't lead his team to a super bright
- 57:32Speaker 1: Nick Foles didn't lead his team. Those two guys are
- 57:34Speaker 1: very similar. Actually, the starters played most of the season
- 57:37Speaker 1: and then they got hurt. Like there's no chance that
- 57:40Speaker 1: the Giants would have gone thirteen and three with Jeff
- 57:43Speaker 1: Hostetler for the whole year. To me, the definition of
- 57:46Speaker 1: the guy. If you're asking me, do I think Mac
- 57:49Speaker 1: can be the guy? He has to be the quarterback
- 57:52Speaker 1: of the Patriots for you know, more than just this
- 57:56Speaker 1: first contract and on one of the years they win
- 58:00Speaker 1: a championship. To me, that's whether he's the reason why
- 58:04Speaker 1: or not. If he can do that, he's the guy.
- 58:06Speaker 1: I would even take out the need to win a title.
- 58:10Speaker 1: I would just say competitive to win a title. If
- 58:12Speaker 1: you're if you're getting a second contract, then you Obviously
- 58:18Speaker 1: the coaches obviously deemed him the guy, right like if
- 58:21Speaker 1: they if they re up him, say in year four,
- 58:25Speaker 1: and he's the quarterback for eight nine years, they thought
- 58:28Speaker 1: he was the guy. They thought he was the guy.
- 58:30Speaker 1: Spiin Fresno Love Big East question Happy Paul had the
- 58:33Speaker 1: big basketballs to answer it, honestly, but we didn't get
- 58:36Speaker 1: everyone else's responses. So fred Eric, Mike, Matt Matt is
- 58:39Speaker 1: Mac the guy? Well, Elder didn't ask us, He only
- 58:42Speaker 1: asked Paul. Yeah, there's probably a reason for that. Yeah,
- 58:45Speaker 1: I hesitantly say, yes, Mac will become good enough for
- 58:48Speaker 1: us to win a title with him. He looks good
- 58:51Speaker 1: for a rookie and its biggest flaws seem based in
- 58:53Speaker 1: skills that can be developed, such as sensing, adjusting to
- 58:56Speaker 1: the pass rush, red zone passing, pre snap adjustments. The
- 59:00Speaker 1: question is whether those improvements, assuming they occur, will matter
- 59:03Speaker 1: more than what he can't change, such as arm strength,
- 59:06Speaker 1: lack of mobility. An X factor is his mental toughness,
- 59:10Speaker 1: which I don't have a good beat on yet. Do
- 59:12Speaker 1: you think he's mentally tough. I think he is pretty
- 59:17Speaker 1: tough physically and mentally. Yeah, I think you're under selling
- 59:20Speaker 1: his biggest weaknesses though, like strength, like your skill is
- 59:25Speaker 1: as big as weakness. Well, he doesn't. He doesn't run well,
- 59:27Speaker 1: and he doesn't throw it well like he's accurate, but
- 59:30Speaker 1: he doesn't have a great arm. Here's the thing about
- 59:32Speaker 1: the mental toughness part of it. We know physically like
- 59:36Speaker 1: he's taking big hits and bounce back, but that's not
- 59:38Speaker 1: what we're talking about. When in his career, whether it's
- 59:42Speaker 1: high school or college, has he had to deal with
- 59:45Speaker 1: real adversity. I don't know the answer to that. I
- 59:48Speaker 1: don't know the answer to that. I mean, certainly not
- 59:50Speaker 1: an Alabama now other than not being able to start,
- 59:53Speaker 1: but this flast year, I'm talking about see. I count
- 59:56Speaker 1: toughness as taking a hit and staying in there and
- 59:59Speaker 1: coming back. And I count mental toughness as the ability
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: to put bad plays behind you. I've seen that, Yep,
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: I've seen evidence of that. I'm not telling you that
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: he's there's no questions about him in those regards, but
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: I've seen him show the ability to put negative stuff
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: behind him quickly and bounce back. I think that's a
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: sign of mental to Yeah, so I think he can
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: be the guy. And again, everyone's definition of the guy
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: is different. So that's why I wanted to define what
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: mine is. And I also like that Paul. Paul added
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: that give him another year, like, give him an offseason
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: in the program, Like it's, well, that's what I want
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: to see, ye. Yet the things that I have concerns
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: about I think can improve with um, you know, additional
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: strength and nutrition and and whatnot. The things I mock, right,
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: you know, he'll get better at the NFL level. There's
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: there's there's some truth to that. Yeah, Like you get
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: into program and you're taking care of yourself at a
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: different level for a year, Right, Let's see what it
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: looks like after he is able to do that and
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: if I looked next year and I was like, wow, Ye,
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: that fifteen yard out that was consistently getting threatened to
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: be picked off last year is getting there faster, right?
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: Good that could happen. I just wonder that, like this,
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: the same people who were saying, oh, Trevor Lawrence isn't
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: that good? Would they have said the same thing about
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: Peyton Manning in his first year? Of course they would.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: And that's ridiculous. That's ridiculous. Now, Peyton Manning had Bill Polian,
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: and as much as I hate Bill Polian, he built
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: a team. He was a good Peyton Manning. Yeah, and
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: it worked, you know. I mean he built teams in
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: three different places, right, And so you need that. I
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: don't care who your quarterback is, Tom Brady, Aaron Rodd.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: You need pieces, you know. So, Anthony writes inspiration listening
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: while working the streets, slinging mail in twenty degree cold,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: and may well, thank you, thank you for doing that
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: got you clarified while you were working the streets. Yeah,
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: all this talk about Madden made me think of a
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: question for all of you guys. Given the exact same
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: situation from two thousand and one Super Bowl tie game
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: in twenty twenty one Super Bowl versus Tampa Bay and
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: Brady with less than two minutes left, no timeouts. Does
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: Bill push the ball with Mac to try to get
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: Folk into field goal range like he did with Brady
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: or does he run a draw and roll the clock
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: and head to the coin toss. I feel like he
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: doesn't get aggressive and sits on the ball and plays
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: for ot. Well, here's the thing about that question. If
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: Mac is in the Super Bowl, he will have done
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: things to get to the Super Bowl. So maybe the
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: confidence level that you're you know, implying changes because we're
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: in the super Bowl. We won some big games in
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: order to get there, and he showed me that he
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: can push the ball down. For me, it's different. It's
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: I think that Bill's rationale and most of these situations
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: has dealt with what's gone on in that specific game.
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: I think he talked about after the Tampa one, you
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: know we hadn't we hadn't converted them. I think they
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: were three for thirteen on third down in that game. Yea,
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: there were one for ten on Sunday. Yes, third down.
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: So you know, if you're not you know, if you're
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: not sustaining offense for an entire game and you're in
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: a bad situation where you know you're on what was it,
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: You're on seventeen yard line with no time outs and
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: I mean it's twenty left. Yeah, maybe he goes conservative. Yeah,
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: but if if it was a game that they were
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: playing really well offensively, and I think you would he
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: would go for But don't you think it's reasonable to
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: think that if you get to the super Bowl, those
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: numbers will have have to have improved against some really
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: good teams. But like, like what I'm saying is they
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: were nine and four. Yeah, and he was conservative, Yeah,
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: but I mean against But but you know, I'm saying,
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: if you're one for ten in the players, you're gonna lose,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: You're not gonna get to the super Bowl. Well, but
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: what if your defense is the reason why you won
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: those games? Okay? Right? You know, and largely the defense
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: was a bigger part of the reason why the two
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: thousand and one Patriots one. You know, Brady wasn't always
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: great in those games, but I do think he was
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: always great when he had to be right, and he
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: showed that, and I think he showed the ability to
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: come from behind. So maybe if they if they had
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: done better offensively the last two games. The next time
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: he's in a spot like that, maybe Bill says, you
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: know what, he can do this, He's done it before,
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: but so far he hasn't really done that. They haven't
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: really come from behind. Yeah. The closest example I think
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: we might have against a good team is Dallas when
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: he threw that pass. Now it was a one play,
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: big play, they scored, but they threw the ball on
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: the first pass there, right, And so that was another
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: one that after the game was tied and overtime, it's
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: fourth and three, and he he punts because he didn't
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: have that kind of faith in the offense and the
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: way that they were converting a stick and outline. Let's
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: go to Patty and agawam, what's up? Patty's up? Guys? Hey? Um,
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: So I got to make a comment about what Paul
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: said yesterday about that UM producer and Ei. He said
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: he wouldn't trade Max right up for Patrick mahomes Um.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: That's it's completely preposterous to me. Like mahomes Is was,
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: like Brady was when he was here, and like Manning,
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: you know, he's he's on his team. You got to
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: give them like the odds on favorite almost every preseason
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: that they're going to get to the super Bowl and
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: possibly win it. And that's I don't know, it's just
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: a ridiculous statement. And just a question on Max for
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: you guys as we're talking Mack a little bit, do
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: you think that his arm strength can't improve? And I
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: don't mean like pushing the ball further downfield, I mean
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: just like maybe getting the ball. Yeah, I think I
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: think he can get stronger. Yes, I don't think he is, uh.
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: I mean I know what. We kind of talked about
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: this a lot during the spring and we kind of
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: poked five. I don't think he has an NFL body,
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: and I think you can develop that. Yeah. And you
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: know a lot of people, um, you know, there's all
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: different sides of the story with Tom Brady coming out
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: of college. Oh he has a strong Army doesn't have
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: a He had he had a pretty strong arm, you know,
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: because they went back and they looked at it was strong.
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: But I think he got it stronger. He did, and
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: I think he improved. I think he improved his mechanics, yeah,
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: and that made his the delivery better, more efficient and
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: got the ball there fast. And that's an area where
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: Matt can potentially improve. Yea, I think that's something that
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: can be improved. Yes, And I think he's got the
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: mentality to put the work in to do that. I think.
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: So you know, we'll see, we'll see. When you're done,
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: you go home. Oh, I wouldn't have done it. I
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: don't know why. What's that, Patty, But I was just
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: gonna say that. That's all I got. All right, thanks
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: for Alabama. John's in northern Maine. What's up, John? Twenty
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: degrees up there? Joe? Oh, Joe, Yeah, Matt wrote John.
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: I'm sorry for this, but I gotta just comment on
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: Fred's comment on Bill Polly and building the team for
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: Peyton Manning. Yep. Um. I always think we have to
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: remember though, that uh Bill Pollian could have paid Marshall
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: Falk and traded his draft pick to Ditka in New
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: Orleans for his entire draft and built a defense. So um,
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: I gotta remember that was the year that um Dica
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: traded for Ricky Williams whole draft thing. Could have just
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: kept Marshall Falk and got all his draft picks. So
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: I gotta just say something bad about the Colts. Oh yeah, Well,
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: I hate Poland. Marshall Falk held out he was never
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: going to play for the Colts again. Well, do you
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: think it would have be paid him? No? Why do
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: you hold he didn't want to play for the Colts anymore?
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: Because why because he didn't think the Colts were good? Oh? Okay,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: And it's kind of the same thing as Barry Sanders.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: It wasn't a money thing. You didn't want to play
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: for the Lions anymore? All right, that was the Marshall
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: Falk thing. Okay, still could trade that draft pick though,
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: change James versus the whole cold draft. I don't remember
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: any of that, Like why you wouldn't want to ed
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: and Ja? Well no, I mean we can hate, we
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: can hate Pollium because he's the Colts guy. We're all
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: on board. I got it. I hate him. I think
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: what Eric said isn't deniable. He built three ridiculously great
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: franchise Bills, Colts, Panthers. I don't like the guy either.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: I saw his act live and in person. By the way,
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: in those oh five oh six games, Yes, banging on
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: the table hoping that duck flud he got his leg broken.
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: It was one of the most unprofessional things I've ever seen.
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: I don't like Bill. He said that I don't. I'm
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: not lying. I know I don't like Bill. I'm not
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: going to pretend that I like him, but I can't
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: tell you that the Patriots and he does that on purpose. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: I think he does too. I don't like the guy.
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: I think he's an uptight. The Patriots had their time,
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: it's our time, right, that's right. Yeah, you got your one. Yeah,
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: yeah boo. But anyway, I'm calling in about whether or
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: not Max the thing or the guy. I remember in
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: two thousand and one I emailed the show suggesting that
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: they trade Brady and Keith led So, oh I remember
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: that call. No, I don't, And Paul even liked that idea.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: I'm going to say even I wouldn't have suggested that
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: at the time. It was because, you know, there are
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: a bunch of backup quarterbacks like Scott Mitchell and John
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: Freeze had gotten big contracts and never fulfilled them. But
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: to me looking back right now, it kind of seems
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: like the NFL's in a similar period where you have
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: Alan and Buffalo, kind of like Manning in his fourth year.
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: Right then Brady came in, Breeze came in, a couple
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: more years, you got roth as Burger and and it
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: seems to me like right now there is like this
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: group of quarterbacks that's going to be you know, maybe
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: the guy for the next ten years. Yeah, and that's
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: a good thing. Oh absolutely, yeah. Yeah. And so it's
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: interesting and um and the other thing on that is
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: comparing this team to where that is. For me though
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: it's the two thousand and one team is Before the
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: Cleveland game, somebody called in and Paul said, like, you know,
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: in two thousand and one, people didn't have a problem
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: with them winning by being lucky, and I mean that
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: was the thing. It was just this hopefulness that you know, however,
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: this team could you know, scrape it together. And to me,
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: that's where this team is now. You know, it's it's
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: the same thing of you know, I have more faith
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: in Bill Belichick now. But they got ahead of what
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: I thought they were going to be this year and
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: now they're back to where they are, and it's that
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: thing of like, you know, if they can just pull
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: it together and build forward, I'm happy and I'm good
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: for this year. And I still think there's there's just
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: seems to be a lot of similarities to that that team,
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: both in the rebuilding in the league and a lot
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: of stuff like that. Yep, all right, thanks John. Listen,
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: all those guys we talked about, all those young corps,
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: I believe all of them can be their team's guy.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: You know what I mean? You mean Herbert and Lawrence
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: Burrow and you know all of them, All of them
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: can be. I don't like, none of them can be
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: Tom Brady, but all of them can be their team's
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: guy for the foreseeable future, you know, could be, could be. Yeah, Yeah,
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: I think they all have it in them, you know. Now.
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: A lot of it is the environment, like like you
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: know what we're seeing in in Jacksonville. You know, like he,
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: you know, Trevor Lawrence is the number an overall pick.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: His contract will never go down, you know, his his
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: next contracts gonna be a whopper, right I would. So
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: if you're Jacksonville and your shot con Or, if he's
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: still the owner, then it's like, well, we suck, you know,
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: so we might as well tear it down. So he
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: could end up not being their guy just for that reason,
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: for money reasons, well, because they suck so bad. I
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: think that who they hire this offseason as their next
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: head coach is going to It's critical. It's very very
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: much critical, Like they need somebody that's going to yeah,
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: be right for the quarterback. What I'm saying is there's
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: other reasons why a quarterback turns out not to be
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: a team's guy other than his own performance. Yeah, you know, sure,
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: but I think all of those guys, you know, again,
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: in my definition of the guy can be their guy. Yeah,
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: you know. Long Like if you get a decade roughly
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: out of a guy and he takes you to the
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: playoffs or even to a conference championship, maybe wins you
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: a title, even take away the title. But if you
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: play for a decade and you're in the playoffs, he's
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: the guy. Like Andy Dalton was Cincinnati's guy. He was, Yeah,
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: Kirk Cousins is Minnesota's guy right now, right, I don't
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: think you can win a title with him? Yeah, see
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: yeah maybe not. Maybe That's why I think. And I'm
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: not taking away your definition of the guy, like right,
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: it's it's like why I go for two. It's my chart.
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: I just you know, you don't tell me that I'm wrong. Yeah,
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: your definition isn't wrong. That's your definition, right, I think
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: you have to be in a Super Bowl. Yeah, Falk,
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: By the way, I just kind of looked up because
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: I wanted to make sure I was remembering properly. He m,
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: he was. He informed them that he was holding out.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: He had two years left on his deal. So I
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: guess I don't know the answer to the question if
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: they ripped up the two years, would he stay, Like
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: would he really have done at Barry Sanders. But I
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: think we've seen a lot of guys hold out and
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: get traded, like Dion Branch you know here, you know,
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: in others. So I don't know. I mean, maybe I
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: maybe I'm taking it too far that I don't think
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: Falk wanted to play for the Colts anymore because he
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: didn't think the Colts were good, and I think that's
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: why he was holding out. But then, you know, I
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: think it's hard to criticize Polian for choosing Edwin James
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: instead of Ricky Williams, right, like, who's better? Yeah, I
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: don't even think it's close. Yeah, at the time, though
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: Ricky Ricky Williams was great and period of time he
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: didn't like an eighteen hundred yard year, I mean, for
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: a short period of time. Ricky Williams was unbelievable when
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: he went to Miami. Yeah, he had an unbelievable year
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: in like, I don't know, oh two, I don't, I
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: don't remember. But he was Ricky Williams was not a bust.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: He was good. Obviously, he had all the trouble with
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: marijuana and everything and that ended up derailing his career.
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: But but Edwin James was all. You know, he's a
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: Hall of famer, is a Hall of famer. We were
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: talking about the COVID rule changes and Bill and Bozeman
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: writes in I agree with Paul's overall point about the
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: late season rule changes being unfair to the teams that
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: suffered from it previously. However, when there's a bad rule,
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: it shouldn't be allowed to persist any longer than necessary. Yeah,
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: that's why I did. I did throw that in there,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: like because of the unprecedented nature, right, and I do.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: I said it last week. Why would you know if
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: Kendrick and Cole Beasley test negative, why should only one
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: of those guys be allowed to play? Why should two
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: healthy players be held to different standards because of vaccination status?
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: Ryan at Ottawa long time listener first time emailer, Thank you.
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: Quick question, what other young quarterbacks would you trade for Mac?
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: One for one? The cutoff in this scenario is three
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: years or less than the league for Joe Burrow and
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: Trevor Lawrence. I'm making that trade in a heartbeat. Other
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: than them, though, I'm not sure I would trade Mac
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: for any other young quarterback. What do you think? Can
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: I have a list of them. I'm not clamoring for
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: him to be traded. I have faith in Mac and
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: a more than comfortable having him be our quarterback. I
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: think he's shown enough that he should be given a
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: couple of years before any final decision is made. That's
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: fair enough. I agree with that. How about Herbert? He
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: said Burrow and Herbert? Didn't he only two that he
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: would He said Jess Burrow and Lawrence. He wouldn't trade
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: him straight up for Herbert. Nope, I mean yeah, I
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: would take Herbert. I mean, if you want to tell me,
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: like to me the interesting questions. I don't have the
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: whole list of all these young quarterbacks in front of me.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: Interesting questions to me would be like Baker Mayfield, Right,
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: that's the like I don't think. I don't think that
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: would trade Mac Jones straight up for me, I wouldn't
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: need it. I would keep Mac Jones. I would his
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: third years. Yeah, he's going into his fifth. It was
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: a fifth year they got. They got to decide if
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: they're going to keep him. They didn't. They didn't. He's
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: played four years, all right, because the Emailers thing was
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: three years or less. Right now, I'm just saying young quarterbacks. Yeah,
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: you know, I think I consider him a young quarter
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: I would keep Mac. I consider him a young quarterback.
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: I trade Mahomes, Yeah, yeah, I mean I wouldn't. I
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: think he's he's going just three years. I don't have
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: the list of entirety of the quarterbacks for just the
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: last three years, but I think, I mean, I don't
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: even think there's a conversation to be had about Jordan Love.
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: Keep Mac Jones. Jordan. I hated Jordan Love coming out
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: of college. We called him Jordan Lake. Remember, Um, how
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: about Davis Mills. I keep Mac about the same. Yeah,
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: he's our guy. Okay, So because you have him, Yeah,
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: because I think I look at Davis Mills, I think
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: he's he's taller, he's stronger, he's got a better arm.
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't. I don't. I'm intrigued by
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: Davis Mills, and I didn't like him coming out either.
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: In full disclosure, Yeah, I didn't like him coming out.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: What about any of those guys that were drafted before
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: Mac this year, Fields, Lance, Zach Wilson. I think I
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: would probably take them all. I don't know. I don't
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: know about Lance. I just sit there all have more talent. Yeah,
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: and with Bill Belichick as the coach and Josh Mchaneless
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: the offensive coordinator, I'll take my chances with the more
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: talented guy. Yeah, that's why we want to. I don't know.
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: I don't know about Lance. That's the one guy I
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: don't know because he didn't play at the same level.
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: But justin Fields, I've seen enough he can play. I mean,
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: that was our whole discussion during the draft, was like
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: we liked the fact that they took a quarterback, remember,
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: and then we were kind of underwhelmed by the fact
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: that it was Mac at the time because we felt
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: like the other guys taken we're a bit more talented. Yeah,
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: I have questions about Zach Wilson, and I just I
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: absolutely have no clue about Trey Lance. He has a
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: played I think that justin fields with Bill Belichick and
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: Josh McDaniels, I think would be pretty good. Juan and
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: Monterey Mexico says, I've always heard that why Bill is
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: the best is because he adapts to what the league
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: is currently doing. He's not stubborn on changing his ideas. However,
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: in the last few years, when the league has gone
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: towards smaller and faster linebackers, he stayed with the big
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: and physicals such as high Tower and Bentley. I feel
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: it's one of the reasons the defenses seem slow in
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: the last few years, with the lack of adapting in
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: that area. What are your thoughts. I don't think that's
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: one of his I mean, I think he has a
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: lot of strengths. I don't think that's one of his
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: strengths is adapting to what the league is doing. I
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: think his strengths are game planning and identifying what players
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: can do and what they're kids people of and putting
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: him in positions to succeed exploiting other team's weaknesses. I
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: think those are Bill Belichick's strengths. I think he has
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: been sort of slow to adapt to some of those
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: things over the years. And I think that's one example
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: of it. Now. I think one of the reasons why
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: they're running the ball so much more is because Bill
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: is not adapting to what not necessarily the league, but
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: like if they if they're going with all these small defenses,
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: I think Bill is saying, we're gonna power up and
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: run it at him, right, So I guess you could
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: say that's adapting to the league. But again, that's game
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: plan to me, not how you're you know what I mean,
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: but you agree. It could also be that he's saying,
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: no matter who our quarterback is, he's not gonna be
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: ready to lead us for a few years, so I
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: better have something else to fall back up. But I
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: think you could even go back to twenty eighteen with
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: Brady when they started running the ball a little bit
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: more than they had, because I don't think he felt
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: like it was their strength with the receivers that they had.
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: I think they were missing weapons. Certainly Brady would tell
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: you they were missing weapons, right. He pouted all through
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: the nineteen season. Yea. And I think they decided to
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: power up against some of these smaller linebacker. Of course,
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: Sam is in North Carolina by way of Maryland. Um, so,
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: a couple of things, then a game. Let the Bills
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: have their fun. They lost to us consistently for twenty years.
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: We ran many coaches and first quarterbacks out of there.
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: Let them enjoy the moment. So here's the game. Only
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: one word answers or number only no analysis games the
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: first Buffalo game. If Brady were here, how many past
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: attempts would he have had in that wint? Uh? Ten? Multiple?
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: Assuming everything around him is the same? Steven? Since there
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: and ten? Well, he said one word, So I just
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: said stuck with Since Patriots went some time without a
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: Sunday game because of the recent schedule, when is the
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: next weekend they won't play football? January twenty weekend of January? Yeah,
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: oh okay, so they went out playoff game. No, they're
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: losing the playoffs? Yeah okay? Or so fourth weekend of
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: January the night right. But but that's type of why
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: I had. I had to just give a one word answer. Yeah.
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: I definitely reserved the right to change my mind if
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: I like, if they play Cleveland in a four or
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: five game, I'll take the Patriots in Cleveland. What positions
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: should be our first round draft pick? Uh? Next year? Cornerback. Um, yeah,
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: I'll agree, corner Yeah, probably not playing well. Probably corner
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: I said probably corner, um multiple words. But listen, if
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: if there's a can't miss linebacker about sex, we'll talk
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: to you in a minute. You weren't supposed to show
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: your um appearance. Yes, we got to finish this game.
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: Are we closer to playing like Jacksonville or Kansas City?
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: Kansas City, Kansas City? Yeah? Yeah? Are we closer to
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: a really good team or a really bad Right? That's
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: the question, right, You're closer to a really good doesn't
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: That's a good question because a lot can happen in
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: the offseason. No, I mean right now, I think sure, sure,
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: closer to Kansas City because you're gonna be a playoff
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: team who will have a better second season with the Patriots.
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: Mac Jones or Montre Stevenson or Kendrick Bourne, I know
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: what I would answer, I will wow, I'll go Mac.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: Are you sure? No? That's why it took so long?
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: Painful sighing in there. Well, because that's a tough questions,
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: good questions. This is a good game, well done, all right?
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: Deuce is back from practice, has returned from practice, has
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: returned all right, all right, Well, a couple of COVID
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: guys back. Good news. Ramandre Stevenson was back out there.
- 1:23:18Speaker 1: I was, yes here, Durant and Harvey Longy. So a
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: few guys back, Um, that's probably good news because the
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: COVID list now at six guys, which I'll just run down. Bentley,
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: Jude On, Wise, Hoyer, King and Ucha are the are
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: the six on the COVID the most likely have to
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: miss the week of practice, which is an ideal. Yeah,
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: so they could play in the game but would have
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: to miss the weaker because they have to sit out
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: five days. Yeah. Now I'm wondering, like how they found
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: out because they stopped testing as of Monday unless someone
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: was showing symptoms. So does that mean that they were
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: showing symptoms? Yeah? Maybe, I think unless they self reported.
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: Just yeah, you know, but do you think do you
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: think the players? Do you think the players would insist
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: on being tested? I don't. I don't know like some
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: of them maybe. I mean, I don't know either. I'm
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: just asking. Yeah, I just personal experience. My sister fully boosted,
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: she got it test depositive, she's got symptoms, So I
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: I you know, I think that this there is there
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: is a segment of people I can I'm just wondering
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: if it's wondering why they got tested. But some of them,
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: you know, it might not be vaccin. Laid up, unable
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: to get out of bed, you know that's it's that bad. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: real bad back pain. Never felt back pain like that before.
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: So I hope she's doing better today. But yeah, their
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: whole their whole family got it right now. So anyway,
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: she happened to fall down last week. Yeah, but bled
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: So was was absent along with Agalore as well. So no,
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: Agalore was out last week with concussion. So those are
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: the two you know, non COVID guys, at least as
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: far as we know right now. With bled So, that
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: was kind of a little bit of a surprise. Um so,
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: but goods on Stevenson and the last he was last Friday, Calf.
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: I think he had an injury. That's why last Friday,
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: that's why he didn't know, that's why he didn't play
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: all Yeah, full pads Friday night went stay, full pads,
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: full pads. Small media contingent just uh yeah, the team, me,
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: Mike Rias and Jim McBride. That was it. The fearsome threesome. Yeah,
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: just us, but they're they're revert they're going back and forth.
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: So today was heavy on cameras, light on beat reporters.
- 1:25:26Speaker 1: Tomorrow will be light, heavy on beat reporters, light on cameras,
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: and then and then um the same thing for Friday.
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: So uh yeah, small small squad and uh but some
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: good news. I mean, I think Longie's kind of a
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: little one. I mean, he hasn't played in a while.
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: But if you're losing Bentley inside, I mean that might
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: be an option to somebody to plug in there at
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: least um if he's not able to return, but otherwise
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: more more hooping and holleran though like last week, I
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: mean I know that that obviously played no impact on
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: the game, the fact that afterward they broke droles. They
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: were yeah yeah, um, but it was happening again today,
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: especially Tammy Harris, especially vocal Um. But you know, a
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: little strange. You go from two weeks ago he had
- 1:26:04Speaker 1: four quarterbacks night you just got two. You just got
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: macim and Jared Stidham did well. It's good sign because
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie. I gave it some thought yesterday
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: when I heard the news about Brian Hoyer that you
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: know what would happen if Stidham right and were deemed yeah,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: close contacts and then they tested positive because I think
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: right now a lot of people are going to test positive. Yeah,
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: if you get tested, I think are going to be positive.
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: So that that went through my mind. Mac Jones can't
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: afford to be missing the whole week of practice. I
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: would I would assume if he's healthy, Jacobe Myers would
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: be the emergency quarterback if all of that happened, you know,
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: if all that quarterbacks got I would assume they'd signed
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: some Yeah, Jake do Lagalla guy they brings somebody in
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: talking about him on the radio yesterday. I mean, just
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: the guy that at least has some experience in the
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: sis Tigers. He's on the street because he is available. Yeah,
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: I think Felger brought him up at some point over
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: the course of the year, like talking about quarters. Just
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: bring Dola Galla, Like have you ever seen him throw
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: a pass before? I don't know, but yeah, maybe Jared
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: said him, maybe it gets a chance, but hopefully not.
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: Matt out there, he looks fine, it's got his glove on. Still.
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: I feel good, yea and stuff. And stuff. Yeah, all right,
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: Uh excuse me, you got a cough button there? What
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: were the twelve grousing at it at all? No, No,
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: we were just kind of working out a plan of
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: of how to how to go about it, the three
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: of us in our and our you know, three guys,
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: two bears of binoculars. Right, So was it one of you? Like?
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: So really Matt Jones wasn't there? They just as one
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: of you, like the guy that's responsible for getting the
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: word out and who was there? Yeah, yeah, we did. Um,
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: we did a little bit of an embargo since there's
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: only a few of us allowed to be there. So
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: we so we sent that Matt Mike send it out
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: to all the Beat reporters what the attendance was. And
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: then we we were you know, said we'd all post
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: it one oh five. So okay, you know, working together
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: was a team nice and yeah, we'll see. I just
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: interested out goes Frida because Friday is supposed to be
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: the day where they have a bunch of Beat writers,
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: but nobody ever comes on Friday. It's always usually just
- 1:28:04Speaker 1: three or four of us on Friday anyway, So it
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: might be a tiny, tiny crew one, it might be
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: a one man show, Deuce. I'm wondering what the crowd's
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: gonna be like on Sunday. Yeah, like fans. Yeah, you know,
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: it's Jacksonville. I agree with you. Tickets available, Oh yeah,
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: I was looking, you know, so I'm just wondering about that. Yeah,
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: maybe they were Christmas gifts, you know, maybe people gave
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: them away, and yeah, maybe it'll be stronger than you think.
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: You know, Listen, this is the first game that you've
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: ever attended. Like you're gonna go, right, if you've got
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: tickets for Christmas or something, you know, like you're gonna
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: go to the games. Good point, it's a good point.
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: It would be a good game to do. I gonna
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: watch the Patriots roll. Yeah, you know, but I mean
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: season ticket holders may have used that game and said, yeah,
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: I'm gonna give these for a Christmas gift, and if
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: you gotta for a gift, you'd go yeah, sure, yep,
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: good times, all right. Five five hundred is the eight
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: ticket Hut web radio at Patriots dot com as email
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: address intermactions uh limited limited. We're you know, a little
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: little uh scattered, trying to get through everybody, but watch
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: still wearing the glove. Still wearing the glove, had full
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: pads on, had his knee brace on on the outside. Um, yeah,
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: I'm trying to get some Mac the gloves on. Still
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: Yah was still wearing was up. I hear that jacket.
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: He had a big winner jacket. Yeah, I think still
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: under the weather. Like somebody said to me, Fred, I
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: was listening to the postgame show, and you seem very
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: worried about Bill's health. I'm like, yeah, I am, hear
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: I'm talking. Well, usually we kind of make make light
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: of it, but in this day and age, you can't. Yeah, right,
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: because what if he sounds like that and he has
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: has right right? Well, you see Robert Salo was out,
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: he just came back. But iveryan you know, I I'm
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: surprised there hasn't been more speculation about what would happen
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: if if Bill had to miss last week. You must
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: have missed it. I didn't, had it not us I
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: brought to see I think Bill likes to go with that.
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: Don't like to disrupt as much as I possibly can avoid.
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: Y go with Patricia and let Mac continue to work
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: with Josh right and keep that focused on the offense
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: as is. I think that's important. Yeah, you know, because
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: if you're I brought them to a flutter with that.
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: They were like, no, I'm like, that's not bad. That's
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: not a bad idea. You know, in terms of track
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: record as head coaches, Josh McDaniels Matt Patricia, they're the same.
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: You want to tell me that Josh has been a
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: far more successful coordinator. I would agree. I don't think
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: that Matt Patricia's defenses were great. Josh Josh mcdenians has
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: had a lot of great offenses, but as head coaches,
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: they both failed miserably. Yeah, so I don't know why it,
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: like elicits such anger for people to like Matt Patricia
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: has to step in for a game you're overseeing, all right,
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: all right, I know, I know Bill was the coach,
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: but yeah, we're doing this week. Well you know, um,
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: when you talk about mood, mccordy, um was uh No.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: Slater was asked by Buckley, ye, if everybody's bought in? Yeah, Mike,
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: because he detected something in some of Slater's answers that
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: might well we got a choice to make. That was
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: like agree. We got into a conversation about this and
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: other people did not agree. But what did you guys. Yeah, um,
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: it did strike me a little bit of I guess
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: I would just assume generally that there is no choice
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: to make that you know exactly, you're just gonna do
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: this week what you've always done. Um, So it did
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: strike me a little bit. I mean, I think Steve
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: did a good job of following up and really kind
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: of asking him about it. But I also think that
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: there's an element of Matthew Slater as a speaker that
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: kind of speaks in that way, and so I don't
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: know if it meant as much to me though I
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: don't know how we're going to choose. That's what kind
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: of stuck out to me, was that, I think I
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: think the phrases, the phrase that he used was we
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: have a we have choices, and one of those choices
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: is to let it spiral out of control. That's not
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: something I would ever think would come out of the
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: mouth of a player on this team, letting things spiral
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: out of control. And that's what you know, he that's
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: anathemas to the way they do things around here. I
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: was waiting, I thought, I thought, I thought I wanted
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: to let that breathe. I'm sorry, my bad, um, but Yeah,
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: Mike Reese asked Slater the original question, and he chose
- 1:32:27Speaker 1: to answer it that way, which I did think was
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: was interesting. And then I guess later on in that
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: conference call at the end, Buckley said, is that you
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: sort of suggesting to some sort of rift in the
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: locker room? And yeah, I just took it at down.
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: But we're hitting a time where it's adversity. You know,
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: what are we gonna do? Are we gonna keep fighting? Well,
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: we're gonna, you know, cash in. I suppose if you're
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: looking at the two games, that's what I take it too. Yeah,
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: but I'm with Eric, like I think there's like like
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: Matt's Matthew Slader can say, yeah, I know what I'm
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: gonna do, but I don't know what everyone else is doing. Yea, yeah,
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: but I would imagine he's one of the guys that
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: stood up in the front of the room and gave
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: that talk. Yeah, And I thought I thought there was
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: also some telling comments from mccordy after the game about,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: you know, some of the calls, and he actually said
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: I could have made some adjustments that I didn't make, right,
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: So he put it on himself. He spoke for himself,
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: but I do wonder if there's maybe a little bit
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: going on in there, and I wonder if there's a
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: little I'm not rift is probably too strong a word,
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: but I just wonder this is a different Much of
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: the reason why I wasn't ready to say this is
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: the super Bowl favorite was because the guys that were
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: Super Bowl favorites are not here anymore. These are new
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: players that the key figures are largely new people. Yeah,
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: and that's like some of those things that you just
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: automatically associate with Patriot success are not given absolutely. And
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: you have a game like you just had where guy
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: comes out of nowhere and has a career game against you,
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: you know, so it's natural for players on any team
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: to question the approach afterwards, like maybe we should have
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: done something different, maybe even within the game, why why
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: are we doing this? And then you add that you
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: have Steve Belichick who was a young guy, Gerard Mayo,
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: who's a young coach, you know, in terms of experience.
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: You wonder if there's more questioning than there would be
- 1:34:25Speaker 1: if it was like Dom Capers or Dean Pease who's
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: been in the league forever, and you don't you don't
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: question him. You just trust the process. You wonder if,
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: you know, questions emerge, and I do wonder if that's
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: what the if it was more than just players speak.
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: I wonder if there was a reason behind some of
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: the comments that's all. Yeah, I don't know. I'm not
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: making a big deal out of it, but I just
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: some of those things that were said kind of made
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: me take a step back at Yeah, it felt kind
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: of like though that that was taken from six seven
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: games left in the season. You haven't really even I'm
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: close to clinching anything. Like, I just think this is
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: the team that like just needs to bounce back. It's
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: not a team that needs to like not go down
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: the dream in the last two games when you're probably
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: gonna make the playoffs anyway. So that's the only thing
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: that strikes me a little bit weird, is that this
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: is a team that still is most likely going to
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: get into the playoffs, I mean, and act like it.
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: You know, that's that's what it is. You know, you
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: had two games in a row where big games, Yeah
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: you didn't one game you just got dominated, you know,
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: and you know, you didn't even show any life until
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: the end. And then another game where you had everything
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: in front of you against a heated rival, and again
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: they showed up at the beginning and you didn't. And
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: there's a lot of questions. I'm sure that people are
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: asking themselves about themselves, but also my teammates, like who
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: are these guys? Is you know? And I'm just throwing
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: out names. Okay, So don't please don't think that I
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: know anything, but like, you know, who is you know,
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: match match yout on on the stretch? I don't. I'm
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: I know who I am. I'm Devin mccordy. I've been
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: he I won super Bowls, but I don't really I
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: know Matt. I think he was you know, but I
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: don't know you know, So I've never been with him
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: on a team in this situation. So I'm sure there's
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: a lot of questions by point about like you can't say, well,
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: this is what the Patriots due, because what the Patriots
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: now do is lose games in December. Yeah at home.
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: That that's what our most recent sample size. Would you say,
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: four Gate four years, four years lost two games in
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: December in a row. Um, so I know what happened.
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: I was here, I know what happened between two thousand
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: and one in two thousand nineteen when Brady was here.
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: But it's different now because those guys aren't here. And
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: to Fred's point, you know, I was kind of struck
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: by Matthew Judon on that on that last touchdown to
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: Dawson Knox where it looked like he spent more time
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: worrying about a fly then playing, you know, like, yeah,
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: to the point where the you know, Zoe City, you know,
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: the defense all stopped. Well, why because you think that
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: you would cheat it in some way, like play the
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: play the play out and they make it irrelevant, right, Yeah,
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: you gotta play to the whistle. Yeah, you can't assume.
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: You can't just stop what you're doing and assume what
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: do you think on that play someone lined up in
- 1:37:24Speaker 1: the neutral zone or oh like, which is not a
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: play that you would stop playing. You don't stop playing, right, Yeah,
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: even on like off sides calls, you gotta keep playing
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: until you hear a whistle the ref comes in and
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: it was waving his arms and you got to keep
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: assuming that it's live a fumble protect act like it's
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: live until they tell you act like it's live. It's
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: just like an early part of the season, you had
- 1:37:51Speaker 1: those kind of moments in these games Miami, you know
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: where the defense could have made a play, and you know,
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: talked a lot about they're not making the clutch plays,
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: and now you're getting into the time year where it's
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: kind of all clutch plays and you didn't get anything
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: last week, and that, I think, to Paul's point is apted.
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: It's just you know, you're figuring out who you are
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: and for this team, what can they really hang their
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: hat on right now? Like at least with the Brady teams,
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: of course you can hang your hat. We got Tom Brady.
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: But I think most teams by this point have something
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: they feel good about or you know, something that hey,
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: this is a string. We're gonna lean into this when
- 1:38:22Speaker 1: times get tough. And I don't know if this Patriots
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: team has it right now. I think they've kind of
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: taken turns like dropping the ball, so you know, literally
- 1:38:29Speaker 1: and figured and I think that they will respond, you know,
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: and they won't pack it it because even in the
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: two games, because I think the two games, you know,
- 1:38:37Speaker 1: we described in a little different way. I think they
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: got dominated in those two games, just in different ways.
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: In an Indy, I think it was they collapsed under
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: you know, a combination of Jonathan Taylor and a bunch
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: of their own foolishness, you know, like jumping off side
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: on a field goal and allowing a punt to get
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: blocked for a touchdown, silly penalties. Against Buffalo, it was
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: none of that. It was just the other team did
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: exactly what it wanted to on offense for four entire quarters,
- 1:39:02Speaker 1: to the tune of four hundred and thirty yards of
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: offense and you know, seven trips into the red zone.
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: You know. So I think you got dominated in different
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: ways in both games. But even though that they got
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: all played so badly in both games, they found a
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: way to hang around give themselves a chance where if
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: the other team didn't execute at the end, the Patriots
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: could have gotten. So I don't think the Patriots will
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: full tent and quit. I just saw these two games
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: where they got really all played for the better part
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: of the game, and yet in both games, the defenses
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: on the field in a one scored game with a
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: chance to get the ball back, you know, failed both times.
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: But still I think the fighting is what the Patriots
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: are about. Yeah, they're not going to quit, but as
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: you left, I was just gonna with two different the
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: two different losses, it's kind of particularly disheartening because they
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: lost two different ways. It was like, I feel a
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: lot better if Mac threw four picks and that's why
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: you got blown out by Buffalo. But you know, like
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: in Matthew Slayter's mine and mccordy's and even High Tower,
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: you know, fighting at the end isn't just getting out
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: there and playing. It's stepping it up. Yeah, you know,
- 1:40:06Speaker 1: and to set all the teams are beat up, we're
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: all beat up. It's all we're all tired. But it's
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: the you know, the guys that can step up, dig deep,
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: dig deep and elevate. You know, it's not just not
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: given up, it's taking it to the next level. Yeah,
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: I mean, you know, you know, even just generally, I
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: think you saw that energy from the Colts in the
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: Bills the last two weeks. That was the December energy
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: that you're kind of looking for right out of the game.
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: And I think I think sometimes that energy comes from
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: a confidence that you have in yourself and your teammates,
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: in your plan and your coaches. Like it's a culmination
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: of things like you feel like, I don't know, it's
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: just it felt to me like when they went to Indianapolis,
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: the Colts felt like, we're home, we've got a plan,
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: we know we can beat this team, and we're gonna
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: do it. The Bills felt like, we know we screwed
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: up a couple of weeks ago, we know we've got
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: a plan. We know we can go to foxborow when
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: and they did it like there's a there's like a
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: confidence that they had the additioned and that's where the energy.
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: I think they played like they fed off what McDermott said.
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: McDermott got a lot of heat for saying, it's not
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: about what Bill Bellett, Yeah, it's about us. I think
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: their team fed off at that. He said, this is
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: about us, right, Like, it's not about what the other
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: teams doing. If we do the same things we did
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: on the Monday night came Yeah, but if we play
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: the way we play, I don't think they can play
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: with us, right. And that's like the other part of it, too,
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: is just all this talk of slow starts and I
- 1:41:28Speaker 1: just it feels like it's going to get in their
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: own head. And to some extent it felt like with
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: that three and out, you know what worries me about
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: that is like, you know, we talk about John Madden
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: being genuine, you know, coming out fast and like having
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: that emotion. It's got to be genuine, you know, like
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: you don't. It's felt genuine a couple of times this
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: year from the Patriots, but not yeah, consistently, Like it
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: can't be like Den mccordy, you know, yeah, you know
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: telling you to jump up a down. You have to
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: like feel it, right, you know, right at that point.
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: That's why I like this weekend, like just don't please,
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: don't celebrate, just just take care of business. I don't
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: want to. I don't want to see like yeah, maybe
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: that's the but like like I'm not making out, like
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: I'm not kidding. Maybe the way to do it this
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: week is don't run out, walk out like a single
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: or double file or whatever. Business. We're just gonna take
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: care of business today, you know, like no nonsense. We're
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: just really are the anti fund and make fun of
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: it like in a teasing way, but you really don't
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: like fund and that becomes the new thing going into
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: the super Bowl. It's the Patriots. Don't run out, they
- 1:42:33Speaker 1: walk out again holding hands military march style. We're about
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: to go on a five or six game winning like
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: stormtroopers walking out there exactly, Bill walks out like Vader. Yeah,
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: the Emperor. Technically that would be that would be something
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: that would be unique. Cody and Indiana writes in web
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: radio at Patriots dot com. Do you think that the
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: Patriots were just peeking at the wrong time or were
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: they just beating up on lesser teams. I feel like
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: the team has collectively run out of gas and I'm
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: honestly really worried about the Miami game. Yesterday Deuce made
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: an offhand comment about how they should still make the playoffs.
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: I don't know about that. After week one, I sent
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: an email saying that loss would come back to haunt them,
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: and I'm getting nervous that I was right. Well, just
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: so you know, it has come back to haunt them,
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: and then regardless of what happens, because it gave them
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: a second loss in the division, and that's why Buffalo
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: is in the driver's seat. Sure based on division record
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: they have the time yep Alex is writing in and
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: he's in Pentucket. You know where that is. Yes, I do.
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: Still recovering from the atrocious Bills game. No defense, poor offense,
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: special teams just pedestrian. Here's my question. I have been pondering,
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: does this team have the ability to have a chip
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: on their shoulder and bounce back like the teams of old.
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: It seems that in the past we had players and
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: teams who thrived and coming back from losses or being
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: mounted out. So do we think this team has the
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: same fight or had the game change where these are
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: different players who approach games differently. Not sure if this
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: makes sense. Hope, I'm making my point clear. Thanks for
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: all you do. I mean, Fred has them in the
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: Super Bowl, so it's hard to make the argument that
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: they've been counted out, right. I just I just think
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: I go back to the Houston game, and you know,
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: I go back to the Indianapolis game. You lose two
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: games earlier in the season, and it was like, oh,
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: get right game, and how'd they come out flat? Bad?
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: They You thought Indie game was a wake up call?
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: Like was that, Hey, the season is on the late,
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: it's right there for the taking. Now how'd they come
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: out flat? So I have my questions about it, and
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: I think that's why I kind of gave the nod early,
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: was because I haven't really seen this team I mean
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: maybe the Houston game, you could say it, but I
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: haven't really seen them in game overcome a lot of adversity,
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: like it either kind of goes their way or it doesn't,
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: and they don't really have the playmakers right now to
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: shift the course of the game. And that's I just
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: didn't see it happening. I mean, of course you get
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: maybe a lucky interception in that change, but overall, it's
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: just it's you kind of know, in the first quarter.
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: Did you see the game that they overcame the most
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: adversity was Houston? Yeah, I mean that was the one
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: that jumped to my mind and the only one that
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: came from behind. Yeah. Yeah, I mean even the Chargers
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: game they were losing the fourth quarter, but it was
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: a pick. Yeah. I remember writing during that game like
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: this is the lowest point in the season, Like during
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: that game the second quarter or something like, well they
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: down two nine, right, yeah, and they had that ridiculous punt. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: So like to Mike's point, right, you get gifted hit
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: his own player in the back of the helmett, you
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: get gifted points, and that that sort of springboard you
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: come back. Tyler and Nadick on last week's Thursday show,
- 1:45:46Speaker 1: Eric and Deuce were talking about a video I'd never
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: seen before called New England the Patriots in week Oh yeah,
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: I looked it up on YouTube. I gotta I gotta
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: tell you it's gold. Then we really is. We're the
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: best in the AFC being raised in the Chicago Land area.
- 1:46:02Speaker 1: I thought the Super Bowl Shuffle was the only bit
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: of football music to come out of the Oh no,
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: I'd like to make a formal regress to have Deuce
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: be in charge of doing a reboot that song for
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: the next Patriots Super Bowl run. I am and I
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: gotta ask Paul to maybe felgern Mas will sing a
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: song to get up the Patriots hyped up for the playoffs.
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: I'm sure Tony Mas doing a verse. I think that
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: might be a heavy lift. It was the worst song ever.
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: I'm so excited that somebody founded based on us. Chatbout
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: it because thanks for the oranges, Bradley, New England the
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: Patriots and we what does me? It's what does that mean?
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: I don't know, because we were a team. It's not
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: about us. I'm gonna go to Eric on that's a
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: proper grammars and we know we I mean, unless that's
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: the beginning of a sentence New England. The Patriots to
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: the Bowl is in there til I'm awful awful. Um,
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: let's go to the ace ticket outline. Brian's in Indiana.
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: What's up, Brian? Hey, what's up? Fellas? Not doing any
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: yardwork out there, are you? Of course not because it's
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: no snow and sunshine. So now in the house. Now
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: you're done right, Yeah, I got it all done, so
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: it's all good. Hey. What you are just talking about
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: about this is is just playing out the way I
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: feared and not having a defeat its attitude and thinking
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: we got no chance. Now I know we still, you know,
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: pretty much control our own destiny as far as actually
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: making the playoffs. But I didn't want it to come
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: down to Miami last game of the season, and of course,
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: you know, we lost the first game. You think out
- 1:47:52Speaker 1: about all of these wild scenarios, you get way ahead
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: of your stuff, but I and I kind of passed
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: this game in the back of my man the whole time.
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: I just hate that you had to come down to this.
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: It's like even with the if I'm not mistaken b
- 1:48:07Speaker 1: Jacksonville and depending on what shapes out with the other teams,
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: uh Sancy and uh Sandy la whoever we can. Is
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: it possible if we lose the Miami game we out
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: the playoffs? Period? It's unlikely. There is a chance. There's
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: a chance. If the Raiders in Dolphins went out, Um,
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: you're out of the playoffs. Even if we be b
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: Jacksonville and lose to Miami, we out, right. Yeah, if
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: the Raiders ends Miami win both games, right, you're out.
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: They have to win out. Yeah, but so the Raiders
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: play at Indy and Miami plays at Tennessee. Right, if
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: either one of those two teams loses, then the win
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: over Jacksonville will clinch a playoff breath for the Patriots.
- 1:48:53Speaker 1: And it ain't even amazing. I say this last point.
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: I let y'all go. It's amazing in the NFL of
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: a way, it's things shakes out. One or two loss
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: and you go from totally controlling your own destiny and
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: driver seat for first place in the whole conference. Yeah,
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: being at the mercy of the teams needing help handling business.
- 1:49:17Speaker 1: It's it's crazy, it is, and that's what they want.
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: That's it. Yep, yep, all right, Brian, thank you, Uh
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: let's go down, Eddie, Eddie and Florida. If there is
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: one like minor thing and remote of the chances it
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: is Buffalo could lose both games and then that could
- 1:49:35Speaker 1: change things. But we could they win one of the
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: Falcons and Jets Atlanta and the Jets. Yeah, I mean
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: I would assume they'd win at least one of those.
- 1:49:45Speaker 1: What's up, Eddie? Hey guys, So obviously the defense is
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: underperforming in a big, big way. They couldn't stop the
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: Nosby the other day. But on offense, if you have
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: five skill players on offense and two of them are
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: to kill Harry and john Us Smith, you've pretty deep trouble.
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: That's it. That's all I got. Oh wow, okay, Eddie, Yeah,
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: I mean what did What did you think about Josh
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: McDaniel saying he needs to get the figure out how
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: to get the ball to Smith more. It's all on him.
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: It's nice of him. Yeah, I think it's I think
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: it's a coach taking one for the team. I just
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: I mean, unfortunately, I think he's being used as a
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: blocking tight end. He's not a great blocker, um, I don't.
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: I don't think he really runs good routes. I think
- 1:50:31Speaker 1: everything they've given him is like design. I think Josh
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: is doing everything he can. I mean, I think they
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: have at least probably two plays or three plays in
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: the plan every week to like this is specifically to
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: do it. Oh yeah, how much more can he do? With?
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: Two things that I have a problem with. Number one
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: is the in this particular game, the insistence and of
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: nikkil Harry. I don't understand it. You know, he got
- 1:50:55Speaker 1: the most snaps. He got six targets, which may or
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: may not have been the most. Yeah, well Myers had
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: eight um so other than that, two catches for six
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: yards I mean on six targets, both on screens. I
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: don't understand that. I don't understand why he had to
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: play such a large role, but that's what they thought,
- 1:51:16Speaker 1: you know whatever. The second part is when you sign
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: two tight ends and you sort of give him the
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: kind of money to make people think that you've signed
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: two elite tight ends, and those both of those guys
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: end up doing basically what they've done in their careers.
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: It looks like a disaster, But it's not like I
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: think Henry's been better than Smith. I don't think anybody
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: would argue, but they sort of are what they are.
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: Like Smith's career high is forty one catches, Like he's
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: gonna end up with about thirty one, you know, thirty two,
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: Like he's gonna end up within striking distance of the
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: best season he's ever had. And people are like, that's it.
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: The other guy, I can't block a lick. He's caught
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: nine touchdowns, So that's good. I mean, that's what we wanted.
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: You know. I don't blame Hunter, Henry and John hu
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: Smith for this, like I think that well, he didn't
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: mention Henry, he mentioned no, he Harry, No, I knows.
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: Making a larger point here. But the larger point is,
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: these are the guys that you had all you miss
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: an Agalore the other day. Yeah, these are the guys
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: that played all year. You you plugged in Harry for Agalore.
- 1:52:25Speaker 1: And I think that you think that you got better
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: weapons than you did, and then when you play against
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: good teams and your weapons don't look good enough. It's
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: the weapons, now, I think it is the weapons. I
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: don't think they're good enough. But this is what you got.
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: You put big money into Boone, Agalore, Smith and Henry
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: that those guys are gonna be here right. You know
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: that's going to be the core of your weapons going forward. Yeah,
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: Like you can't. You can't ask Bill to go out
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: and spend sixty million on a wide receiver next year,
- 1:52:55Speaker 1: right unless he takes one in the first round, like
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: some good. I mean, I didn't say you couldn't draft yet.
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: I said he's not gonna put sixty million into a
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: wide receiver. No, but I think I don't think they're
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: done with that position. Claire writes in from West Midland's UK. Hello, everyone,
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: hellover in I think I'm a bit of a homer
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: Like Fred. I read that the Bills thing as the
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: Patriots are that awesome that it's an achievement to even
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: beat them. It was irritating in a way, But then again,
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: I have visceral hatred of the Bills. Yeah, I think
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: that's what it was. I think they were saying, like
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: this is like no one else has been able to
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: do this, and that's how hard it, right, And don't
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: think any of the other thirty one teams wouldn't do
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: the same thing, including this one. Did you see what
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: I'm talking about? You? Okay, what do you think about it?
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: I just think it's stupid, Yeah, you're gonna announce it
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: on social media though, Like I mean, I know everything.
- 1:53:47Speaker 1: It was in the game. I know. That's the only
- 1:53:50Speaker 1: reason why you think I follow the bills. Social media
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: the only reason why I knew about it. About the announcement,
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: I don't care. I saw the tweet. I saw them
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: tweeted out like it was, you know, with a graphic,
- 1:53:59Speaker 1: a graphic, and you should, like you're in charge, you
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: should abolish social media. We don't social media. We don't
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: we do No, we don't, we don't do that. He's
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: like that. I agree with the larger point. I think
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: it's stupid. Yeah, the larger point is I think it's stupid.
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: But I think it's all stupid, not just the things
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: that other teams do. If I don't get the chance
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: of email again, wishing everyone a happy New Year, New Year,
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: you too, they celebrate happy New Years. They really are
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: the two least fun people I've ever met in my life.
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: It's unbelievable. Yeah, New Year happens everywhere, don't have not
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: just in the United STATENFL Paul fun Lea, It's true.
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: Jerry Glanvill set up Yeah, just the way I like
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: he said, not for long didn't he we're seeing no
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: fun league as well? I thought he. I thought he
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: did both. He definitely said not for long. Yeah, that
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: was definite. That was the clip in the commercials. Right,
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: you're right about that. I might be misremembering Charlie's just
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: often Charlie's in Virginia. Despite the loss, always a fun
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: weekend up at Foxborough was only my first or second
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: regular season game in person since Week seventeen of OH seven.
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: Needless is say different vibe leaving the stadium from the
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: Bills game. I hate the delayed rushers against a mobile
- 1:55:06Speaker 1: quarterback with an arm. It seems to me that it
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: lets the coverage get sucked down the field, then the
- 1:55:11Speaker 1: rusher comes and it's an easy scramble or rollout. Makes
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: much more sense to send rushers right at the snap
- 1:55:17Speaker 1: against Alan, in my opinion, make him make quick decisions
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: to force and Eric, don't let him roll out. Oh. Also,
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: we shouldn't be surprised by the defense. They look slow
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: and old beginning of the season. They still do. How
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: many years have we watched them get diced by underneath
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: throws to bats running by our linebackers. Yep, that was
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: that was a plan and That's why I would be
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: curious if they do. If they were to go to
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: Buffalo for a rematch and play him in the playoffs,
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: what do they what do they do different? Do they
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: kind of just go for broke and send guys after.
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: It's just it's frustrating for me when you rewatch the
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: game and you see Matthew chewed on. I think I
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: said they like pulling up, you know, like he could.
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: It's a guy, and then he's just stands there and
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: he's just kind of watching and holding his tackle and
- 1:55:56Speaker 1: I got to make sure Johnston get out. Like it's
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: just not what they well, well, I just I don't
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: think it's what they said. Johnson was sort of given
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: an explanation this morning, and I don't know if he
- 1:56:08Speaker 1: really knows what he's talking about, but he's saying a
- 1:56:11Speaker 1: lot of the Patriots style is for the linebackers or
- 1:56:14Speaker 1: whoever to chip first and then rush, and that delays
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: the rush, you know, and like he thinks that maybe
- 1:56:22Speaker 1: sometimes they should just get after. The High Tower was
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: asked about that today, you know, about you know, doing
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: a better job of holding up the receivers coming out
- 1:56:29Speaker 1: and talked about how it's not as easy as it looks. No,
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: these guys are quick work. Yeah, they spend practices working
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: on avoiding getting delayed, hands on them and a whole
- 1:56:43Speaker 1: You know, a guy like McKenzie, you know, I think
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: High Tower said it was impossible to do it to
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: Julian Edelman, you know, as as just simple quick and
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: you know a guy like mackenzie, he's not. I'm not
- 1:56:51Speaker 1: telling you he's Julian Edelman. But that's that's the skill
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: set is the short area, quickness and elusive guy. All Right,
- 1:56:59Speaker 1: that's gonna be it for this edition of Patriots Unfiltered.
