- 0:00Hello, and welcome to another episode of the Christian Reef
- 0:02podcast. Today's guest is a musician, up
- 0:05and coming from Newcastle. His name is Aiden.
- 0:07Pitcher, welcome to the show. Aiden, Aiden.
- 0:11Hello, thank you. Pleasure, to be here.
- 0:14It's a pleasure to have you met. I think.
- 0:15I think you might actually be my first guest from Newcastle, so
- 0:17that's cool. Make love for the Newcastle
- 0:20people. Shout out to Gaston, I don't
- 0:21know if he watches this video is acting friend.
- 0:23I met from from Newcastle. Let's talk about Newcastle for a
- 0:28second that why is everyone so friendly and Newcastle will give
- 0:34it to be. Bet is probably just because we
- 0:37are we all have one thing in common in New Castle.
- 0:40That's just football. But everyone loves football
- 0:43because obviously you don't really have much there over
- 0:45there. The football club.
- 0:48So everyone's all connected on one thing.
- 0:51Would you would you say like everyone is, is kind of really
- 0:53into their football Newcastle? Then there's like no one.
- 0:55That's not really a fan. Nice from my experience this
- 1:01year. It's very rare to find someone.
- 1:04You doesn't go to the football. Okay.
- 1:10Well how do you feel? How do you feel about what's
- 1:13going on recently with the the club being acquired by a cult
- 1:16member who were the investors are?
- 1:17But they're I believe it might actually make Newcastle the
- 1:20richest Club of the world or certainly the top five.
- 1:23How do you feel about that? well, there's people obviously,
- 1:29who aren't okay with it because it's Saudi Arabia and the okay,
- 1:39The human rights. The way I think of it because it
- 1:45there's or most people know that the new car sometimes it still
- 1:49going us oil money, he will up. If you look at the other clubs
- 1:54like Muncie, same thing, they've got oil money is up.
- 1:59So it's like, how can you accept one called having a?
- 2:04Just because they're already big, but we can't accept us
- 2:07having it. And I think it's just like we're
- 2:13And back to where we used to be. And I think people are scared of
- 2:15that because, you know, one of the best teams it's true in
- 2:20England. So it's always felt quite weird
- 2:24that, you know, Newcastle is always had a huge football
- 2:29stadium, but then you spent the better part of let's say 10 15
- 2:33years or something like that in Championship, I don't think it's
- 2:36ever gone lower than that and it's weird.
- 2:40You know because Newcastle use To be in the Premiership used to
- 2:44be a big team, obviously. Alan Shearer was one of the
- 2:46bigger players back in the day and there's no reason why it
- 2:50shouldn't be and it's, it's an interesting thing as well.
- 2:52I think from an investment standpoint, I mean, it's kind of
- 2:55obvious why all the Investments are in the big clubs.
- 2:58Now in major cities in England, because it's like, for business,
- 3:03it's good to teach it clear its goods, but it it's kind of
- 3:08changed things in a way that is quite divisive and causes you
- 3:12know, you've got to Camps because it's like, it's great
- 3:15for the game of football. In the sense that you've got
- 3:17more money, more access to as opposed exciting players, which
- 3:22makes the league more fun excetera.
- 3:24But then as you say, like, it's coming from a source, that's not
- 3:29It's no great. Really is a just on a side note
- 3:32related to this. So in the news recently so I'm a
- 3:34big wrestling fan, big professional wrestler.
- 3:37Also my dhoti used to wrestle this here in Berlin.
- 3:43Okay, well we'll Circle back to that.
- 3:46So in the other if you've seen the news but WWE, they will
- 3:50report its been denied but it's going back and forth right now
- 3:53that it's reported that the reports that I've seen it,
- 3:58actually the same people who bought Newcastle United, that's
- 4:01weird, which is A weird concept, forget my net around just
- 4:09Newcastle, United's owned by the same people who owns WWE.
- 4:14It's not a contest where X is cut.
- 4:16This kind of its kind of like the got the guys that own.
- 4:18Aw, they own Fulham, Football Club, and then the Jacksonville
- 4:24Jaguars. And the state's a second is so
- 4:27weird here in Tony carcass any cons, obviously his Indian
- 4:30Heritage I think Pakistani or something like that, but he's
- 4:35Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, in the states.
- 4:38So there's this like American guy that's like chatting about
- 4:41Fulham. Football Club was like, you
- 4:43know, full on the hill. They had a really good like was
- 4:46it like season and everything and it's just weird hear it
- 4:48because he does go there. He's invested in it but it's
- 4:52just it's just weird like because they're another team.
- 4:56Yeah they got they got a lot of money and Phillips good club
- 4:58always have been, but it's like, it's interesting like how many
- 5:03clubs are being acquired in these locations, and what that's
- 5:07going to look like I suppose in a way or make the Premier League
- 5:11more competitive, which is good, but then My worry is the
- 5:16Baseline, how it affects the fans genomic because that's
- 5:19always how it goes like football, the history of
- 5:22football is it started with, you know, miners Miners and mining
- 5:28companies that like basically put together They like a
- 5:31football teams for fun. Just that for fun.
- 5:34They're like they're in Little League like instead of a fun and
- 5:37then those mining to them. He did.
- 5:41Yeah. Yeah yeah.
- 5:46Back in the day, it was just like a Pastime.
- 5:48It wasn't really like everyone in even I think like the 50, 60,
- 5:5270, s, whatever, they still had like, full-time jobs, and they
- 5:55were just doing the football on the side.
- 5:57Yeah. And then somewhere in life, I
- 5:59think the 80's 90's is where it all changed.
- 6:01Justin, that's where like all the money came in and stuff.
- 6:03But that's not to say that like players aren't still passionate
- 6:07because clearly they are, but there are a lot of people that
- 6:10you can see are just solely driven by money.
- 6:12And yeah, it does affect me personally, right?
- 6:16It affects the game negatively in many ways and it's like, I'm
- 6:20not the world's biggest football fan.
- 6:21I've always looked at it kind of like, oh, I watch International
- 6:25quietly. Follow my team, but they suck
- 6:28but I love them. Queens Park Rangers, that's my
- 6:30team. Yeah, it's painful being a QPR.
- 6:33So that's the interesting thing about us as well.
- 6:38If you look at us we're funny one because we got acquired from
- 6:41debt in. I want to say the early 2010
- 6:46something like that and I we were really in debt.
- 6:50There's like I don't know if this is true but there was an
- 6:51old story that apparently we were so badly in debt.
- 6:55At one point in League two, that the fans were paying the players
- 7:00wages. I don't know if I believe that
- 7:02but it sounds like like it could be true because luckily day it
- 7:07was like our but the best thing we could hope for is to beat
- 7:10like working Wanderers away on a Sunday or something like that
- 7:13was the biggest hope we can ever hope for and then fast forward
- 7:16used to have some, some point in history.
- 7:20Yeah, yeah, no, no. I think, I think we ones
- 7:23through, we never want any major trophies, but we would one point
- 7:28in the 90s, when the Premier League first began, we were I'm
- 7:31a big contending like at least top 10 team I would say.
- 7:36Yeah. And we had some good players.
- 7:38Les Ferdinand back in the day, even in the most recent one,
- 7:41where we actually got the the money we it was embarrassing
- 7:46that we bought a bunch of players and they kind of gelled
- 7:49but didn't and it's like the perfect example.
- 7:52A showcase example of what not to do when you get a bunch of
- 7:56money in football. I think now we're doing what
- 7:59we're supposed to be doing, which is weird.
- 8:01Building up the academy, we're building up players, but the
- 8:03problem is those players, it's a bit of a Southampton deal where
- 8:07they'll don't get built up. They go really get really good
- 8:11and then they just leave. It's weird.
- 8:28It's like a fetus. It like, it was like that for us
- 8:31for a while. Back in the day we used to loan.
- 8:34Some of the Tottenham has a had a close relationship, QPR and
- 8:39they would loan some of their like, reserve players to us to
- 8:42use who just weren't getting any football.
- 8:45I won't get into play and it's like, well, why not, if they're
- 8:48there, why don't give him some people like it.
- 8:51But yeah, that that was painful as you keep your fantasy that
- 8:54because this like, oh, is it ever going to get to a point
- 8:57where we actually, I don't know, Bill build a good team and I
- 9:02think it's beginning to happen now.
- 9:04But as I say I keep an acute interests and I've just seen
- 9:08them over the last five or ten years or whether it's been than
- 9:10it's just perpetually stuck at like 9th Place is it's almost
- 9:15more interesting when your team is doing badly and fighting for
- 9:17relegation because it's like more exciting.
- 9:21Are we gonna make it? We can give it a really good
- 9:24because of fun. So I know the feeling of they
- 9:29hoping you're not going to get relegated every season.
- 9:33Yeah. Well, Feelin only just went
- 9:36away, not too long ago. They because, obviously, with
- 9:40our previous owner, my cut sleep, we thought we were going
- 9:44to go down every season, and we wouldn't have been disappointed
- 9:47because we just saw it coming. Because it didn't do anything
- 9:52that the club he didn't buy players.
- 9:54He didn't want money. Did they were like eight year
- 9:58olds one had any chance been a long-term player who weren't
- 10:03even that good? And he took us used us as a
- 10:08marketing thing, like putting Sports Direct logos everywhere,
- 10:13like he, they I think he went to a point and I think IG happened
- 10:20where he managed to get us to be called Sports Direct Arena.
- 10:26And it's just like, no, no fun called it up.
- 10:30We just started st. James's Park.
- 10:32Yeah, it'll always be, it'll always be some James Park.
- 10:37Some things don't change. Yeah.
- 10:40I think I But stuff like that. They because obviously wasn't a
- 10:46football person. He was just a businessman.
- 10:50I think that you didn't actually really understand what the club
- 10:55really meant to us, right? Because he was just destroying
- 10:59it and he knew he was destroying it.
- 11:02Because we going back and forth into the championship.
- 11:08It's quite similar to what's going on with with man.
- 11:10You all the man you found that are here to talk about the the
- 11:14glazers and their ownership of the club.
- 11:16It's the same thing they feel like it's killing the club and
- 11:19like it's caused so many problems and you know obviously
- 11:23there was a point where they were dominant to the point where
- 11:26it was almost sickening you know and now it's like it's so far
- 11:30the opposite way. I mean there's slowly building A
- 11:32up again, but point is to look so cool.
- 11:36Wild for them to do it. Like, hmm, they they've been
- 11:40away from completely dominating two figures.
- 11:45Now, last major trophy was the Jose.
- 11:51Jose Mourinho only deal which was interesting because he won
- 11:56them a title and they still fired him.
- 11:59He won them, the Europa League of, I believe, And they still
- 12:03find him which and that's another thing as well.
- 12:05Like Premiership management is to it's just a joke, like you'd
- 12:08be lucky to stay in a job for like, six months.
- 12:10It's just weird and it's either you get kicked out or you just
- 12:18end up destroying the club by staying there too long.
- 12:22Was that the old saying you either die a hero or live long
- 12:27enough to see yourself become a problem?
- 12:29I feel like that's the that's what's happened with Ronaldo.
- 12:32Yeah, he played too long and he was a hero, but he played too
- 12:36long and some sub become the villain of the game.
- 12:39So we're what do you think of that?
- 12:41Move down the Seer. That's how you pronounce her,
- 12:47I'm making. I think is, I don't even think
- 12:54you should be a club by now. Because yeah, he's got ability.
- 12:59But this time, dude, it's not the attitude that you meant to
- 13:06having the modern-day game. You're supposed to be passionate
- 13:11and you can't say he's not passionate, come on.
- 13:14Well he's passionate. Yeah clearly that's that's the
- 13:17problem. Two passions in his Club in that
- 13:24I agree with that. I don't think I've ever seen
- 13:26him. I've been people before
- 13:30handbook. That's true.
- 13:34I don't think it's interesting because when you compare Messi
- 13:40and Ronaldo, like it's known the messy fell out with the board at
- 13:46Barcelona, but I don't recall him ever saying anything.
- 13:50In the media about it? I don't recall him ever dis in
- 13:52the club like he was very thankful and graciously upon
- 13:55exiting and stuff and they obviously said lovely things
- 13:58about him. The way out as well here.
- 14:01I agree. Like I think I do think you do
- 14:03have to give something without us some leeway though because
- 14:06obviously, he lost a child, this this past year.
- 14:09And that's, that's going to affect anyone.
- 14:11But to be fair in the Years prior to that, he still had that
- 14:14attitude. So I would tend to agree with
- 14:16you that there's nothing wrong with being passionate about what
- 14:20you do, but I don't think it. You should be passionate at the
- 14:22expense of others. It's, yeah, you know, like gone.
- 14:28Well, the I move that the sir. It's rumored that he's got a
- 14:32contract for it next season. We got top four.
- 14:37Yeah. Comes to us on Long, which is
- 14:42obviously a matter if he takes. And I don't think Eddie will you
- 14:47because not to you'd be mad. Because the thing that I see how
- 14:51is he looks for players who have a certain attitude so he can
- 14:56grow them as a whole. Here's the thing, though.
- 15:01I agree, however, not bringing Ronaldo to Newcastle would be
- 15:06bad business. They just showed in the media
- 15:09like how much the club's fallish followed following grew after
- 15:15Ronaldo joins. It was like 700,000 before he
- 15:18joins their up to the level of every million followers.
- 15:22Yeah. And that's that's like you can't
- 15:25talk football and management without talking business.
- 15:28Now, that's just unfortunately, just a part of it it is
- 15:31unfortunate that that's the case now but it it just is so you
- 15:37just gotta live with it like You can't do anything about it.
- 15:41Now it's gone too far with how much evidence is involved.
- 15:45I heard something that's what I've been if this is true but
- 15:47apparently we. Now those said that he isn't
- 15:51interested. He's done with European
- 15:52football. I don't believe that for a
- 15:54second. I'm sorry.
- 15:56Like if there's a chance to play with us was because apparently
- 16:00he wanted to go back into the Champions League so he can get a
- 16:03higher record. Yeah.
- 16:06Why would she be in the truth? Yeah.
- 16:10Even if he joined you on, what is it?
- 16:11Genuine loan, isn't it? Yeah, so you joined alone.
- 16:14Is that okay? I don't know this before but if
- 16:16you play with the team on loan and you win, does that count as
- 16:20you winning with them? Yeah, today.
- 16:24Okay. Yeah, so would it would count?
- 16:25Okay, that's interesting. I'll be honest, I would love to
- 16:28just see him in a New Castle shirt just for the spectacle of
- 16:32seeing it. Like it just be weird.
- 16:35Doing because I don't know, like, I'm Manuel, Newcastle,
- 16:37direct Rivals. I suppose one Premier League
- 16:41Rivals. Yeah, but not in, but not like
- 16:43as fiercely as like menu, Liverpool.
- 16:48Our biggest rival. I think you might know about it.
- 16:52Is a new custom. Something that's hard to forget
- 16:55that either, but we haven't played in ages.
- 16:57Normally, its geographical isn't it?
- 16:59So it's like whoever's the closest team to you mr.
- 17:02Bigley arrival. But there Was the reason why
- 17:06ours is so Fierce, they pretty much hatred.
- 17:12It's because obviously we're Rivals because of how close we
- 17:16are, but we're also Rivals because of the Civil War, right?
- 17:20Okay, because it was the jordi's on one side and it is a markings
- 17:26on the other side. Okay?
- 17:29So we all had a Clash So, I think that's the reason why it's
- 17:35Dems to that point, because it's with the Civil Wars, It's a
- 17:38religious thing. They, the, the reasoning behind
- 17:44it. I've never heard about this, but
- 17:47this is interesting and it was something that's just completely
- 17:54like complete hatred Between Worlds because obviously those
- 18:00of civil war between us, we didn't really get along after
- 18:06that. And then we ended up being all
- 18:11right with each other. It's something apart from its
- 18:14support for the hatred stayed and bottle.
- 18:18It's interesting. As well, isn't it with football?
- 18:20Because it's like, you still have those Fierce rivalries, but
- 18:22you don't really have. As far as I'm aware, the firm's
- 18:25anymore. The, the fights people meeting
- 18:28up to fight. I mean, maybe some of that still
- 18:30exists, but as far as I'm aware, that there's fights they all.
- 18:34But it's not like because of the Rivalry anymore.
- 18:37It's a I just Hmm, Hooligans like football Hooligans being
- 18:44they. There was a Chelsea game.
- 18:47I believe the sorts we beat them.
- 18:54There was a joke, the Cobra Chelsea fans who weren't too
- 18:56happy about it. We'll try to understand because
- 18:59obviously losing's not a happy feeling but there was a Chelsea
- 19:06fan stomping a jordi's head and there was a joy, he got whacked
- 19:12in the head with a bottle. Bye.
- 19:13Chelsea fan. And it's just say it's football.
- 19:17They where they one of the most passionate clubs and fun
- 19:21barracks. And probably in the world and we
- 19:25don't go out, I don't get that. And that kind of mentality
- 19:32exists in a lot of different, not just in a physical
- 19:36mentality, but also like I see it in wrestling people arguing
- 19:40online saying like, oh, your opinion is wrong.
- 19:44I see it in music, you know, I see it in.
- 19:46Yeah, fandoms, it's like people get so aggressive about this and
- 19:49I get like what you like is an extension of you.
- 19:52You it's personal. I understand that.
- 19:54But like it doesn't make any sense, like, if your team loses,
- 19:57your team loses, you like when it when England lost to France I
- 20:03wasn't annoyed at the French. I was like they just played
- 20:06better than us. Yeah.
- 20:08That's it. You know.
- 20:09It's so I was questioning They that was smart.
- 20:22We did. Yeah, nothing is back on to what
- 20:28you said about. How it's a music man?
- 20:32I know what you mean because like There are people who like,
- 20:36if someone says to an artist, I don't like your music, right?
- 20:42And then they just go off and then like, you should like, my
- 20:44music in there. And it's just like Because I've
- 20:49had people come up to me before and say I don't like him use it
- 20:54and I that's fine. Yeah.
- 20:56Well people coming up saying, I don't like rock music.
- 20:58I'm just like that's fine then, why not you?
- 21:03Yeah, I wonder that sometimes like I get sometimes comments in
- 21:06my live streams where they're like, oh, I don't like this
- 21:09thing that you do or I don't like this.
- 21:12And I'm like, okay, why are you telling me this?
- 21:16Just just go, leave. Go for it.
- 21:18Something you do like like that? I don't have any ancient.
- 21:21Like, I don't mind what people don't like me or don't like
- 21:23things about me. Or like it's, I don't care.
- 21:26First and foremost, and secondly, you shouldn't care,
- 21:30you know? Because there will be people
- 21:31that love, you know, people hate you.
- 21:32It doesn't matter what you do in life, but because of something
- 21:35in music is, if someone comes up to you and says that, they don't
- 21:38like a certain thing, right? When you change it.
- 21:42And then it turns out there was a majority of people who did
- 21:45like it. Hmm, just gonna walk away.
- 21:49Yeah, I mean, it depends, doesn't it if you get
- 21:51constructive criticism and it makes sense sure.
- 21:54A great constructive criticism. Now I can completely take up.
- 21:58Yeah, but some of us do I say I don't like your music.
- 22:01I it doesn't bother me. Hmm.
- 22:03Now I should it just makes me go.
- 22:06All right? But not the branch for you.
- 22:08Yeah, find a bandit. You aren T.
- 22:12Exactly. It shouldn't, it shouldn't
- 22:15matter because there's a lot of musicians who take that sort of
- 22:19stuff to the heart, especially in the modern music.
- 22:23Hmm. History, there's a lot of eyes
- 22:27to take it to heart and people say that but I'm just like, if
- 22:31you don't like my music you don't like my music.
- 22:33I can't change it. So why should I bother myself
- 22:38getting upset about it? It is tricky.
- 22:41I mean, I think sometimes like whether a particular, yeah,
- 22:45there's sometimes those people that you want desperately to let
- 22:47your stuff and they don't. And that can be that can meet
- 22:51that can be hard but you know it's just I don't I think it's
- 22:56an important life lesson for anyone.
- 22:58Especially anyone that's listening right now.
- 22:59Like try to always remember that like at the end of the day it's
- 23:04okay not to be liked. It's okay.
- 23:07When people don't, like certain things that you've done, or, you
- 23:10know, whatever the case we would be like, it's okay.
- 23:12It's not the end of the world, we're not the most popular band
- 23:16in the world, right late. We've got loads of people who
- 23:20don't like us. Yeah, but that's just how it is
- 23:25in men, especially music. We're going to have people who
- 23:28like you and you're going to have people who don't.
- 23:30Yeah. Which is a lesson that I feel
- 23:34like a lot of its need to learn is that there's always going to
- 23:41be someone who doesn't like music.
- 23:43Exactly. Yeah, there's nothing, there's
- 23:44nothing you can do about that either.
- 23:46You just have to kind of accept it and move on and go from
- 23:50there, really? Yeah, they are, I understand
- 23:53like being upset about it and like, maybe just crying for a
- 23:57little bit. But then, when you start letting
- 24:00it late, Dictate everything. Yeah.
- 24:04Now, I know. You're right.
- 24:05You're right. Like you can't, I think the
- 24:07point that you raise their about not letting people drive the
- 24:12ship like that, but your fans should never be driving the
- 24:16ship. Like you should take on board,
- 24:18what they say. Definitely pay attention to it,
- 24:23but the artist ultimately has to be what's right for them.
- 24:26That's why I like and I had to understand this to like there's
- 24:30so many artists that I listened to that.
- 24:33I'll give you a really good example, right?
- 24:34So I'm a big fan of Mac DeMarco, right?
- 24:37And I kind of felt like when he went independent and he released
- 24:41his last album in 2019. I felt like it was, I was a bit
- 24:46disappointed, they were there were some few good tunes on
- 24:49there but it It just felt like such a departure from like I
- 24:52feel like he needs a little bit of that direction.
- 24:55Maybe or input from like a not necessarily a record label.
- 24:59But like from that industry I don't know.
- 25:02Like sometimes with artist goes fully independent, it's not
- 25:04always the best thing for them. If they've had assistance for, I
- 25:08don't know, but it I don't know. Like the way I looked at it and
- 25:13start part of Music. They like, It's a lot harder
- 25:19than it looks for sure. Absolutely.
- 25:22But what I wanted to drive out this they're just real quick as
- 25:25they also did like discussion man.
- 25:28We go and that's different places.
- 25:30That's how it's going to be. You know.
- 25:33All I wanted to say is that I think it's important.
- 25:36Oh, we lost you there like he's back, he's back, he's back.
- 25:38Okay. Hey guys, it's important to do
- 25:45what's right for you? Yeah and not.
- 25:48Pay too much attention to what the critics will say.
- 25:51Like, you know, you're not every album that you release is going
- 25:54to be different. You're always going to get
- 25:56people that say I preferred what you did, like five our palms
- 25:58back, ten albums back. You know there's people that
- 26:00will say that you sold out is people that will say this that
- 26:03and the other like you got to do what makes sense for you and the
- 26:06end of the day. Everyone's Craig, everyone is
- 26:12music. Is that if you're going to do it
- 26:16to the best of your ability as to be, The thing that you can
- 26:20get losted, mmm, like, especially like live that when
- 26:27you perform it live. It's you're not completely in
- 26:30the music. And given the best show, you can
- 26:35to the funds because you're doing something that doesn't
- 26:38feel completely, right? Yeah.
- 26:41Just to try and please someone else.
- 26:44It's never going to work out doing that.
- 26:47You've got a take on criticism and do what you can with it and
- 26:55they always be open to it. Don't compete for that out.
- 26:58They don't eat, they don't be cocky or anything.
- 27:01Don't go, I'm the best in the world that don't be cocky about
- 27:04it. Take the criticism, take on
- 27:06board, but at the end of the day, do what?
- 27:11You feels right for you to be able to do to the best of your
- 27:15ability. Because if you're not doing it
- 27:17to the best of your ability, it's not going to give a good
- 27:20show. Great.
- 27:21I think I think also as well being a musician is a lot like
- 27:26being in a relationship. Both the relationship that you
- 27:30have with your band mates or just in general the connection,
- 27:36you have to music like if your heart is not in it.
- 27:40It's not going to work out save a relationship.
- 27:42You got, you got a love it. I love it because if you wanted
- 27:48to do music for a job like what I do, You have to love it
- 27:56because if you don't, then the more funds you get the bigger
- 28:01you, get the more shows you. You will therefore have to do
- 28:06y'all not enjoy it and you'll just end up feeling like your
- 28:09stock, talk us through where you're at right now like because
- 28:14I know you're on the younger side.
- 28:15I think you're like 18 19 right now, something like that, right?
- 28:19So presumably you've been playing music for a little bit
- 28:22and, you know, your You get into it and you've I know you've got
- 28:25a band that everything going but like took a talk to us a little
- 28:27bit about where you're at with music and what your goals are.
- 28:32Well, I'll just start off today, where I was in the beginning.
- 28:39Okay, well, it was in the beginning.
- 28:40I actually was a solo while it's doing like, more on popular
- 28:47stuff because obviously, I was just what was big at the time
- 28:53and I was just say finally got far to pop and then I started
- 28:57going Well, I don't really like pop, mmm.
- 29:01And I don't like singing Pop. and, I'm just say, but I love
- 29:09rock and I love singing Rock so maybe I can just get people who
- 29:15love rock. To like me.
- 29:18But because even though there's fewer people, it still They
- 29:24found it so you can yet have a connection with like whether
- 29:30it's 1 2 or 3 people or 100 people thousand.
- 29:35It's still a fan base that you can connect with and then I met
- 29:43the lead guitarist for the band. He's really young.
- 29:51He's 15. And it was at the same Festival.
- 29:58I was playing with with. A volunteer type and okay like
- 30:07me just doing songs but having different people like I'm sure
- 30:11exactly. So I was doing a gig part in the
- 30:19park, I don't know if you know that but it's a more pissed.
- 30:23So I was doing that and then I went off to cool down after in
- 30:29to like settle down because staying there too.
- 30:32The rest of the festival and then I just saw him playing and
- 30:38I was just like, he's unbelievable.
- 30:44It's just like, because with rock It's because of backing
- 30:51vocals in older and I was just like he can sing.
- 30:56And he can play the guitar, like a God.
- 30:59Don't, well, he plays with like A sort of
- 31:16uniqueness that you only get when you put your entire soul
- 31:22into play, they when he's playing.
- 31:27Because I know it's playing. You know, it's in which is that
- 31:33when someone singing is easier to tell because you can hear the
- 31:35boys. Yeah.
- 31:36But if there's a guitarist that you can tell who it is, why
- 31:42they're playing, because of how unique they are.
- 31:47And how much so, how much of their own.
- 31:49So they put into it. That's a great player.
- 31:54Every, it's a really good point. I shall I saw some video the
- 31:58other day so co.labs type thing where it was something crazy was
- 32:03like, oh imagine you're playing like a Coldplay song and then
- 32:08slash features to do a solo over.
- 32:11Is that a bizarre collab? But the guy that was imitating
- 32:15/. Hailed it as far as the Cadence
- 32:18and the start of play and whatever.
- 32:19And it when I was sitting there thinking, like, yeah, like /
- 32:22does have a very unique style of play that you can't really I
- 32:26can't think of anyone that really sounds like like him.
- 32:29Like it's an unmistakable thing. Like you said like there are
- 32:32just certain you know vocalist/guitarist even drummers
- 32:35bassist even like all those different instruments there will
- 32:39be like specific I don't know tones or playing Styles or just
- 32:44interested intricacies little things here and In there that
- 32:47make them unique and make them stand out and make them, you
- 32:50know, just memorable. I guess the main guitars that
- 32:54I've seen kind of unlike You know who they are when they play
- 33:00with Brian May from queen as soon as he plays you can like
- 33:08dries or just go to another room but still there to hear it.
- 33:11You'll know who he is. Yeah.
- 33:14They because he just got such a uniqueness to his play in that
- 33:23it Makes it. So watchable like you want to
- 33:30watch it, you want to go an admirer?
- 33:33You want to go? She's playing in a way I've
- 33:36never seen before. Hmm.
- 33:38In anyone else? Because Brian May, Brian me, you
- 33:43can tell, who is when playing Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin,
- 33:48you can tell what's him. So watch, as I mentioned, from
- 33:51Guns and Roses, you can tell. But then there's some guitarists
- 33:55who are Great guitarist and their own, right.
- 33:59Absolutely amazing. But don't have a uniqueness and
- 34:04just sound like, another really good guitarist suggesting that I
- 34:11know what you mean. Yeah, it's like, it's like I
- 34:15saw, I've seen about a thousand million.
- 34:18People do like versions of Jimi, Hendrix songs.
- 34:22And, you know, sometimes they're very faithful to the original,
- 34:26sometimes they'll be out there, but generally speaking, I've not
- 34:29really been that impressed. I think the only time I last
- 34:31time was ripe really impressed. Was what's the name of that guy?
- 34:36Stevie Stevie Ray Vaughn. I think his name is who would
- 34:41kind of expand upon it. He's very Jimmy asked, but he
- 34:44had his own style and then there was, it was a guy recently.
- 34:47I can't remember his name, but like, it completely blew me away
- 34:50because he took Hendrix stuff. But he put his own style on it
- 34:55and it just it blew my mind. It was like a reinvention as a.
- 34:59Yeah. And that's always key.
- 35:01Is like, okay well if you cover and something make it your own.
- 35:07Hmm. Don't just make it sound like
- 35:11the original. Make it your own and make it
- 35:14sound like you. So people can go oh that's a
- 35:19great different. Version of this song.
- 35:24And so just, this is someone who's good at it.
- 35:26So it's always funny as well like when the cover is better
- 35:30than the original. So it's been like, I mean, this
- 35:40isn't my opinion but it's pretty much the world's opinion.
- 35:48Valerie by Amy Winehouse, which was originally by the zutons.
- 35:54I prefer these Newton's the same.
- 35:57I mean, zoo on Camp, man. Yeah.
- 35:59Like, that's the thing, like I heard it on in a bar the other
- 36:02day and I was like, damn yeah. Like The Originals it kicks us
- 36:06like dirt, it's different. I don't think that one is better
- 36:13than the other. I think they're just, they're
- 36:15like different songs because the the Amy Winehouse version is
- 36:19like kind of I don't even know what a cool is.
- 36:23Just an upbeat pop, funky kind of vibe and then the zutons
- 36:27version is a very gritty standard Rock tune.
- 36:31That's got quite a lot of like the singer really busts.
- 36:34His Vocal cords on that, just goes for it.
- 36:38And anyone that's listen to the zutons first and second album,
- 36:42especially the first ones who tan fever.
- 36:45There's just so much going on, musically?
- 36:47Like they're an amazing band, seriously underrated and it's
- 36:52weird because like I guess they'll always only ever be
- 36:54known as far as like for having written that song and then for
- 36:59it to have been covered and hey look the royalties for life, you
- 37:02know, I mean but they are unmistakably brilliant.
- 37:06And, and I really do.
- 37:18I feel like it was a time, then if you go back, if you go back
- 37:23over the years, like certain years, like, you'll find that
- 37:26there are tunes, that are big for that year, but they become
- 37:29like, obscure or like, I'll give you a really good example like
- 37:33in in the early 2000s. There was bands like a hard fire
- 37:38that was particularly year when this band hard-fi, I kid you
- 37:41not. They dominated for like a year
- 37:44or something that a particular summer, like they just had an
- 37:47album out. It was everywhere.
- 37:48You heard it all the time but you don't really hear it on the
- 37:51radio anymore. There are some songs that stay
- 37:54in there, get played and played and played and played, and then
- 37:56they get eventually transitioned into like oldies or whatever,
- 38:00but yeah. And then like, there's always
- 38:03some things which stay there through What time at night.
- 38:07Yeah, but that's like very few they Livin on a Prayer by Bon
- 38:12Jovi. Always be a song that if if you
- 38:19hear it you're going to burst out with the Koreans.
- 38:24Maybe it may, I'd hate it but I figured so overplayed, I can't
- 38:27stand it. I get it against the Wolverines.
- 38:31Yeah, it shows how timeless it is because that will just like
- 38:36they're paying off the radio stations and it's very certain
- 38:42songs that happens. I was talking on the livestream
- 38:45about this, the other day about, you know, like you got like
- 38:47Wonderwall suppose, a Teen Spirit, like all these songs
- 38:50that it's almost taboo to even play.
- 38:53The Anymore line, if you do get re-arrested them when I do music
- 38:56lives and someone requests wonder what I just assume
- 38:59they're trolling and sometimes people are serious.
- 39:02They really want to hear it. But I just assume it's a troll
- 39:05become. So overplayed to a point where A
- 39:09lot of trolls were using that as a child so when someone serious
- 39:14with it comes along it's just that it's just a truck but that
- 39:18song is an example of the time that song which is a kind of
- 39:23played too much, but like if you hear it live you're going to
- 39:26sing to it. Oh don't get course but if you
- 39:28just hear it they if you they on Spotify.
- 39:32Yeah and it comes up you just going to skip it but I was
- 39:37determined. Yeah.
- 39:38Probably. Probably, yeah, it's just like
- 39:42sometimes it's songs that are played to it.
- 39:45I think playing a song to more can in some cases, Brewing the
- 39:50song. Yes.
- 39:52Because it just gets to a point where you've heard it too much.
- 39:57It's annoying to listen to but that's kind of the whole point
- 39:59though, isn't it? Like there's nothing wrong with
- 40:02that song but the song Wonderful by races is a, it's a, it's a
- 40:06great song. Really written track.
- 40:08It's just over And that's what makes it unbearable.
- 40:13Nothing else? Yeah, if he just wasn't played,
- 40:15it would be like a tune. That you'd want to hear, you
- 40:19know, that even though you don't like Living on a Prayer, they
- 40:24what? I hate it because it's over
- 40:26plane. If it wasn't.
- 40:26Okay, door the time. Like I hear it.
- 40:28I I like instrument at that. You can't deny it's a good song.
- 40:31It's a well-crafted structured song.
- 40:34It's just I think what made it. So big was the fact that it was
- 40:40So unique at the time like we have the yeah at the start of it
- 40:46where they used voice Bob. Yeah, over on the guitar and how
- 40:54it was quite very different. Actually, from most important
- 40:59job is songs, they could the fact that it's quite slow, but
- 41:05at the same time, still got the heaviness and I know what you
- 41:15mean. Like, by all intensive purposes.
- 41:16I should like it, but like, I can hear it in my head right now
- 41:19and I just, I can't stand it. I think also Bon Jovi, they Jon
- 41:25Bon. Jovi's got an amazing boy,
- 41:27special. It is 100% one of the best
- 41:31voices. In that genre in the world.
- 41:36But the thing is his voice. If you keep hearing it for a
- 41:43certain amount of time they over and over and over again, you
- 41:47start hearing the bolts in it. Maybe, I mean, I look at it more
- 41:54like I just whenever I hear tracks from an artist like the
- 41:59overplayed I always think the same thing which is I prefer
- 42:02their other songs. Like take.
- 42:04Take Nirvana's nevermind album right everyone goes on and on
- 42:08about Smells Like Teen, Spirit all are great song.
- 42:11Ang generation-defining and they're right sure.
- 42:13But that ours is but it's not the best song on the album.
- 42:17I mean, you've got breathing drain, you lithium Polly
- 42:22something in the way territorial pissing like it's a fucking
- 42:26amazing album and all those tracks on there.
- 42:29Are ten. Thousands of others.
- 42:32Is there is a great song very well written but I do agree with
- 42:36you is not the best song on the album.
- 42:37It's one of those things. If you go to a lot, if Go to a
- 42:41gig. Oh yeah, you're in a Guitar
- 42:43Center or something. And someone starts playing that
- 42:46everyone groans or just looks and gives them like the war.
- 42:50They give them the, why you stand why are you playing
- 42:53Stairway to Heaven in the guitars?
- 42:55Yeah, yeah. It's no stairways tonight like
- 42:57come on like no. No but it's true, like people
- 43:00will get pissed off. Yeah, it's it's, it shouldn't be
- 43:05like that, but it's because it's the go-to like, oh my God,
- 43:07imagine how many fucking talent shows like hi.
- 43:11High schools around the world where that song has been played.
- 43:15It's been paid to death. Smells Like Teen.
- 43:17Spirit is just like the real, not like the whole reason
- 43:21because it was very well, written good lyrics like good
- 43:24Voyage, good instruments. But I think, A very big reason
- 43:28on my still considered overplayed, and it has played
- 43:33all the time. It's a fight that is just such
- 43:36an easy song, to bang your head, to sure.
- 43:39They will. Temple is very like, you're not
- 43:43going to break your neck. If you have to be like most
- 43:47metal songs, I got ya, I got ya. It's got a certain Vibe, but
- 43:53it's a bit like, Songs can be completely, they just annoying.
- 44:04I will say it backwards that employee.
- 44:06I say this may be one of the reasons why a lot of these
- 44:09tracks become so big is because they're so easy to play.
- 44:13Yeah, we noticed that like Nirvana songs are really easy to
- 44:16learn Oasis songs, easy tonight. It's all basic chords bar,
- 44:19chords, whatever. Like they're pretty
- 44:21straightforward. Which makes them more
- 44:23accessible. I do, completely agree with
- 44:27that. If you have a song that's like
- 44:29really simple in that, people can learn it, Young guitar.
- 44:33Easy people can learn the vocals easily that I get in songs.
- 44:39We're like with certain bonds, people want to sound like the
- 44:44best singer in the world. Yeah, but I don't know.
- 44:47That people won't be able to sing along to one a song that
- 44:52they can sing. Along too.
- 44:53Yeah, if you do in the song, that is completely impossible to
- 44:58play along to on guitar or sing along to people, just going to
- 45:03go, well, can't sing to this because when I'm in the car,
- 45:07when I'm in the car, I want to, when there's music on I wanna
- 45:10sing along. I want to be like jumping up,
- 45:13but not jumping, come in the cart.
- 45:14So I'm gonna go play devil's advocate for a second because I
- 45:17do agree with you. But at the same time you could
- 45:19make this argument about something like someone, like
- 45:21let's say, Adele, right? Elise.
- 45:23Right? You could make the argument that
- 45:25while none of us can sing to that level guess there's no
- 45:29point but then you still can't you sing sing along too late.
- 45:35Even if okay reality or like yeah I get it okay enough to
- 45:44sing along to the she does. It's still you can still sing
- 45:50along to it without doing the bulk or oh.
- 45:53Okay. So she is some Simplicity of
- 45:55Destruction? Maybe.
- 45:57Yeah. Well because obviously I'm a
- 46:01glam rock singer in a glam. Rock band.
- 46:03Everything. Okay.
- 46:05But mad. All right, everyone loves a.
- 46:08Do I love a do? Yeah.
- 46:11And I when I say that to people like God I love it.
- 46:14Do people like you shouldn't Has your rock wall because I'm just
- 46:19say, well, she's one of the most amazing booklet.
- 46:24I got to say, I think that's a younger mentality here and
- 46:27forgive me for saying this, but what I mean is, like I remember
- 46:29when I was your age like and I know people hate when people say
- 46:32this, but trust me, when you're my age, you'll be saying this
- 46:36it's just but no. But I remember what it was like
- 46:39back then and almost like people setting rules and or you can't
- 46:43listen to this because you're this.
- 46:45And it's like once you get to a certain age, That no one gives a
- 46:48shit like, yeah, like II know people.
- 46:51And I myself included, we're will be like whoo, Cannibal
- 46:54Corpse or Katy Perry like in the same playlist it'll be.
- 46:59It's like a good tune is a good too, but I've never understood
- 47:02that mentality. Like I had that when I was at
- 47:04school because I listened to quite a lot of different things
- 47:08at school, pop rock, metal, wrap, everything Grime, and then
- 47:15as I got older and I became like a musician, I Are you listening
- 47:18to everything because, yeah, it's moves Bishop musicians or
- 47:21tell you obviously everything is interconnected and once you
- 47:24start exploring and learning about music and, oh,
- 47:27everything's connected. It's all one big tree, right?
- 47:31And you learn so much you gain so much.
- 47:33And you realize that many artists including pop artists
- 47:36are often heavily inspired by artists.
- 47:39You never would have thought about.
- 47:41Like it's just crazy to really think about, but let's explore.
- 47:46Yeah, I sort of explore because it's not often you hear about
- 47:50people playing in glam, rock bands these days.
- 47:53Yeah, where did that come from? What what's the scene saying
- 47:55these days? Well, obviously I was brought up
- 48:01with like glanced off because my dad was Like probably one of the
- 48:08biggest glum funds out of like Motley Crue Guns and Roses Dead
- 48:14flat. Put it on and they so I was
- 48:19pretty much brought up with it. And it's just like you can get
- 48:28lost. They with me, I get lost in that
- 48:31type of music, like I get completely absorbed into it.
- 48:37And they kept they, when I'm singing it.
- 48:41I feel free enough to like, entertain the people who are
- 48:48watching me. They say I was doing Opera
- 48:50because I can't sing up for which is awful to him.
- 48:55You can sing opera? Yeah.
- 48:57Wow, I'm always tempted. Ask the demonstration Jesus.
- 49:02Wow, my grandma. Is a master Bob for fun.
- 49:09So They shared an opera song as her wedding dance.
- 49:18So as soon as you found out because when I sing, I've just
- 49:22got a natural vibrato, which helps about her a lot.
- 49:25Okay? So I was like started playing
- 49:27around with it, and I just got word that Not necessarily the
- 49:33greatest, but I've got. A range, thanks and good enough
- 49:38range for Opera I know every time because, you know, we're
- 49:43singers and you go to see grandparents.
- 49:45So your parent, they go single Summit singing.
- 49:53Les Miz you can't just things we tell the - of it.
- 49:59It's that now don't like that music.
- 50:05But like, I mean, I've completely forgotten what we're
- 50:10talking about because I've been on the tangency Young from
- 50:12there. I was I was just intrigued about
- 50:14how you got into glam-rock really, and yeah.
- 50:17So because it's kind of, it's a, it was very much, an 80s thing
- 50:21or 70s, 70s 80s, thing more, so 70s and then obviously, it went
- 50:26more to like hair metal in the 80s but these days I mean I
- 50:30still see bands like that every now and again but it's not like
- 50:35If you're talking more Revival territory now really, if it's
- 50:39good, if it comes back, it will be a viable.
- 50:41And, you know, the scale of that.
- 50:42I mean, is anyone's guess, but since you're in a senior that
- 50:46something that you're doing, like I just like to learn a
- 50:48little bit more about that, I guess.
- 50:51Well, Well, it doesn't really get the credit that it deserves
- 50:57because everyone always goes us just about sex.
- 51:00It's about drugs, as well as alcohol.
- 51:03But if you go back to the power Ballads of Guam, it's about
- 51:07heartbreak and love. And it's about serious topics
- 51:14that at that time, it I mean nowadays as for pop is he has
- 51:18talked about love, not very canola but at that time were
- 51:23Rock Graham was the only one doing it.
- 51:26Like we're not the only ones because there was definitely
- 51:30other people, but like the dance stuff.
- 51:35It was just your hands up in the air and dance and the formula as
- 51:43it Glam rocker. Yeah.
- 51:45There's no problem. It's getting your hands up and
- 51:47done but I've just been completely obsessed with the
- 51:5480s. Because obviously, both my
- 51:59parents were in the East and so the age was pretty much how I
- 52:05grew up even though it wasn't in the eighties because they still
- 52:10live. Like they were in the east.
- 52:20Right next to the record player, right?
- 52:23Rights to me with a Motley Crew vinyl in it.
- 52:27Good lad good lad There's Hope for the future.
- 52:32Yeah it's just a completely different sound to the modern.
- 52:37Yeah because obviously it was they used the older equipment
- 52:43because that's what they had at the time.
- 52:46The voices were a lot different. Because the voices that we have
- 52:51now will probably not be seen as as good as these voices.
- 52:56But now it's the other way around because people you at the
- 53:01age, people just want to have a good time so they can comes to
- 53:05their, just got some and with glam And how it's, like,
- 53:13completely different to heavy metal.
- 53:15And yeah, it's a type of, like, rocks.
- 53:23That's metal thing that you get, the heavy Vibe out of it.
- 53:26You definitely get in there, all that stuff.
- 53:31But it's like, you can move around to it and you can they be
- 53:37lit in there? there's when you singing glam,
- 53:46it's a it allows you to put more emotion in than what it does
- 53:49singing like death metal, black metal and all that anybody.
- 53:53But a lot of people might disagree with you.
- 53:56Yes. Lord here.
- 54:12but I do respect it, and I do think that it's Should stay
- 54:20because it makes. A lot of people happy, it makes
- 54:24a lot of people feel the same way and it does move certain
- 54:28people, but with glum, it can move. more people in a sense
- 54:36that it's more of his honor that most people can not get their
- 54:44head around to listen to, and I are.
- 54:47Okay. Not like, I want to listen to
- 54:49us, but like, Yeah. I'm alright with this being on
- 54:55but like because obviously a lot of people in my family they like
- 55:00G but like then they'd be like death metal and they're like, I
- 55:04can't understand a word he's saying.
- 55:07And then on occasions, I have to go.
- 55:09So she has to be there. It goes like I've seen a lot of
- 55:18women. Death metal vocalists.
- 55:20Yeah. Who have really good and it at
- 55:25what they do. And just say, You have got to be
- 55:30really skilled but also you have to love that.
- 55:34So monster put the time and effort into learning how to do
- 55:37that because it's not a skill. That just comes naturally.
- 55:43Pretty much take. You have to.
- 55:45Learn is true. You do have to work at it.
- 55:47Like I can sing the Distortion could obviously on my Glam Rock
- 55:51eyeball. I can't sing like that.
- 55:56They hmm and I've tried and I can't so it's just say you have
- 56:01to really love it to do that. Let's go back there.
- 56:05In that sensor. It is loved by a lot of people.
- 56:10In a certain group of people who just love metal.
- 56:17I think, I think glam metal is it's a shame how?
- 56:24Because obviously used to be one of the most popular, if not the
- 56:27most popular genre at the time, it was dating me and I'm not
- 56:37really bothered that it's not. The top anymore.
- 56:40But it it is a bit of a shame that it's considered like, a
- 56:48dead genre by a lot of people, a lot of people think it because
- 56:53to be fair, and I know that if I'm going to get anywhere with,
- 56:57but I'm already starting to get somewhere, but if I'm going to
- 57:01get Today, a point web. People are, okay, listening to
- 57:07us and not going on. They turn that off.
- 57:11Or are we just leaving the gig? Hmm.
- 57:16It is a hard job because it's a Jean has considered dead by a
- 57:20lot of people not by me. Because obviously, I love it.
- 57:26But like a lot of people, they have a lot of negative things to
- 57:32say about it. When there are also a lot of
- 57:35positive things to say about, because obviously being in that
- 57:38genre, I know the nigga is like, I know that ain't Glam.
- 57:43They didn't really toward the best about women and hmm.
- 57:48But then you look at rap, which is one of the biggest things and
- 57:53genre in the world right now, they talked even worse about it.
- 58:00Yeah, I mean it I suppose there's always an opportunity
- 58:03isn't there too? To change that German like, oh
- 58:06so you obviously had work done by answer, we talked about
- 58:10right. all the Glam stuff, but we We have made it an agreement
- 58:17with each other that we aren't going to have anything in our
- 58:20songs, which has a talking negatively about any gender or
- 58:27sexuality or whatever like it. Because obviously, it's not,
- 58:32right? Because there are like a lot of
- 58:34songs we say negative stuff about gay people, people saying
- 58:40stuff about women and we don't, we just don't want to be that
- 58:44bad. if we want to be a band that accepts everyone, because
- 58:51Obviously, you are who you are and you can't change it because
- 58:55if you do, try to change it. You just going to Be stopped in
- 58:59a place that you don't want to be.
- 59:02Yeah, totally agreement. It's really refreshing to hear
- 59:05that as well. I think these days, it's
- 59:08important to recognize and it always has been.
- 59:10But I think it's especially important now with the Advent of
- 59:13the internet and the reach and everything, accessibility two
- 59:16things, music and media Etc. It's even more important to be
- 59:20conscientious of what you're putting out there and to make
- 59:23sure it's appropriate and then it you know like for instance in
- 59:29my community online, I get People from all walks of life,
- 59:33backgrounds, you name it. Sometimes you get like
- 59:37unfortunate, horrible trolls and they try to make fun of things.
- 59:40And that one thing I've always been big on is that trans rights
- 59:44and stuff, you know, it's not something that I thought I would
- 59:47find myself. You know, coming out and being
- 59:50public about sport like obviously I quietly supported it
- 59:52but I just never did. I mean, like I never felt like
- 59:56I'd be I always thought I'd just be a quiet, kind of supporter of
- 59:59things and that's it and just and do my My own thing kind of
- 1:00:03thing. But then I started seeing like
- 1:00:04trolls in the comments saying nasty things.
- 1:00:06And I always made a point of being like, hey, just so, you
- 1:00:08know, I support this Fuck these trolls.
- 1:00:13And I think bringing it back to the music like it's important to
- 1:00:16make those statements and to be like, hey yeah, we're in support
- 1:00:19of this. We're in support because when
- 1:00:21you, when you say that, like, sometimes people might look at
- 1:00:23that and be like whatever, like who cares, right?
- 1:00:26You know, just do what you're doing.
- 1:00:27Stop making statements. But sometimes it's important for
- 1:00:29people to hear that, you support that because it's like, oh,
- 1:00:33okay, they support me. They support, who I am.
- 1:00:36And once used to be, that's one of the big reasons why Bye.
- 1:00:42Why we want but we're not going to put any lyrics are like, mmm,
- 1:00:50they just being horrible to. Yeah that's like any sexuality
- 1:00:54or gender or race or whatever because we want like people who
- 1:00:58do dig on use it, we want them to feel like Because obviously
- 1:01:04there are fans. We want to include our funds.
- 1:01:07They we don't want them to go are they won't accept me.
- 1:01:14Being like their Farms, won't accept me being a fan because
- 1:01:19I'm trans, or I'm gay or whatever and I'm just, I just
- 1:01:24want to be this. I want our band to be an open
- 1:01:28space, a space for anyone to be able to show who they are and
- 1:01:37just be who they are. Because if you're not being who
- 1:01:40you are, as I said before, what not be stuck in a good place.
- 1:01:45We're going to be talking about those because you're pretending
- 1:01:48entertainment. The reason.
- 1:01:50Why why I think that people really need is for who they are.
- 1:01:56Obviously I'm not. I'm a straight man, but like I
- 1:02:02have had to hide who I was for a long time, because no one really
- 1:02:08accepted me because obviously, I'm autistic and I have ADHD.
- 1:02:16I've got a lot of issues that people didn't accept about me,
- 1:02:19and I had to hide away. So where people just went our,
- 1:02:25he's thick, he's gone because I was hiding the fact that I
- 1:02:29actually have it. She's a autism and ADHD they go.
- 1:02:33Yeah. He's just a hyper little twat or
- 1:02:35a sorry if that's the word, I can't say for sure there's a lot
- 1:02:41of things that people didn't accept about me when I did open
- 1:02:45up. About it.
- 1:02:47But when I did open up about it I felt like there was a huge
- 1:02:53weight lifted off my shoulders and I was just like, all right,
- 1:02:58so you don't actually you're not an actual friend because you
- 1:03:02left. So I'm fine with that.
- 1:03:05How we find my people because when you start to be who you
- 1:03:12are, you find out who really cares about you and he doesn't
- 1:03:19reach as they major thing in life because you find out the
- 1:03:22people who don't care about you and you just leave them to not
- 1:03:28care and you just don't care about them.
- 1:03:29We just own easier said than done but like you can start to
- 1:03:36build the process of they don't like me.
- 1:03:40So I'm just going to leave and find the people who do So that
- 1:03:46that's because pretty much all of the band members, actually,
- 1:03:50every single one of us, including our managers had
- 1:03:54issues in the past of not being accepted. so, We want people to
- 1:04:04feel accepted by us because we do accept everyone.
- 1:04:09So we want everyone to feel that way.
- 1:04:11Beautiful message, man. I'm sorry to hear you.
- 1:04:14Had to go through those two to experience that if you had a
- 1:04:20message that you could send to anyone who might be in a similar
- 1:04:25position, what would it be? The DM.
- 1:04:32Stay true to who you are. No matter, what anyone says,
- 1:04:37don't try and hide yourself away because if you hide yourself
- 1:04:40away, you just don't forget who you are and you're not going to
- 1:04:43like being in the place that you're in.
- 1:04:45So, never hide Who You Are. And never give up on what you
- 1:04:50want to do. Because no matter what, people
- 1:04:52say, as your limit, your limit is whatever you think it is.
- 1:04:57So, if you believe you can make it go for it.
- 1:05:02Inspiring stuff. Thank you so much for sharing.
- 1:05:06Yeah. I'm just going to hit you up
- 1:05:07like a bunch of random questions so we'll see.
- 1:05:09You see how you get along with all these, what does Human Being
- 1:05:14Human mean to you? It's a to me, it's a blessing,
- 1:05:23having life and being able to go through this journey from start
- 1:05:30to finish. It's a complete blessing to be
- 1:05:34able to have that to be able to go through this journey through
- 1:05:39the good times and the bad times because there are bad times.
- 1:05:44But then you always enjoy the good times and even sometimes
- 1:05:46switched on. You don't even realize, but the
- 1:05:51bad times make the good times that much better.
- 1:05:56So, I think that's a complete blessing to be alive and to be
- 1:05:59human. Beautiful.
- 1:06:01I have to say very wise for your AIDS.
- 1:06:03I'm very impressed. I wish I wish I had my shit
- 1:06:06together at your age loads. Yeah.
- 1:06:07Very very impressed then clearly very well raised.
- 1:06:11What would you like your legacy to be?
- 1:06:16I wanted to be a legacy of acceptance and being free to be
- 1:06:23who you are. And I wanted to be a legacy of a
- 1:06:26like it's hard to put this into words because I know I'm trying
- 1:06:34to say just a legacy of be who you are, don't let anyone drive
- 1:06:45you down and a legacy of Just done.
- 1:06:50Some live shows, please, please dance.
- 1:06:58What's the best advice you've ever received?
- 1:07:04It's probably from my grandma, a couple years back when I was
- 1:07:08going through a really tough time of depression and trying to
- 1:07:16commit suicide, many times a power.
- 1:07:19Sorry to hear that she, she she's gone through the same
- 1:07:25things as me, which I never knew until I opened up about her.
- 1:07:28And she told me And I never knew that because she's the most Sake
- 1:07:33O be in happy personal. And she just said, The world.
- 1:07:44Never stops for anyone but you can keep up with it.
- 1:07:52And don't let anyone push you down so you can't keep up with
- 1:07:56it. Because if you don't get up
- 1:08:01after being pushed down, you're not going to catch up.
- 1:08:05But if you keep getting up after every here, you will eventually
- 1:08:09catch up to the world. Deep stuff right there, thanks
- 1:08:16to Sharon, for sure. Is it C is a very wise woman.
- 1:08:22What's the biggest life lesson? You've learned so far?
- 1:08:25The biggest life lesson, and, Probably that. whatever you want
- 1:08:37to do, you can do it, but you have to put in the work, no
- 1:08:41matter how good you are, no matter how good you think you
- 1:08:44are or how good do you actually, are you have to work for it and
- 1:08:50you have to put effort and time into it because if you don't,
- 1:08:55even if you're the best thing in the world, if you're not putting
- 1:08:58the time and effort in no one's going to know it's because You
- 1:09:03know, out there for people to see.
- 1:09:07So it's just work for what you want and you will end up getting
- 1:09:12it. But you got to work and you
- 1:09:15gotta put in the effort in the time for it could not agree.
- 1:09:19More man. Could not agree more.
- 1:09:21He mentioned them off camera before before we begin that you
- 1:09:25live on a farm. I've I've, I've lived on a farm
- 1:09:28before. Let's trade Farm stories, talk
- 1:09:31to me about living on a farm. Well, first office as usual.
- 1:09:36Before we actually got started, Wi-Fi is awful, but it's good.
- 1:09:47It's like everywhere around you is nature.
- 1:09:54There is very few stuff around you which is my maid.
- 1:09:58And you can just enjoy the nature and enjoy.
- 1:10:01What? What ended up being created?
- 1:10:07On this Earth. by reason, I don't know, but it's is living
- 1:10:13on a farm is beautiful because it's just nature all around you
- 1:10:20and also that animals that are there, like, It's amazing.
- 1:10:27Just seeing them every day and apart from, when you wake up is
- 1:10:34really annoying because they use the ones that do wake you up.
- 1:10:38When you meet people from the city and stuff, do you ever
- 1:10:41notice or that may be friends? That you have that have
- 1:10:43completely different upbringings, like maybe more
- 1:10:45residential, something like that.
- 1:10:47Is there anything that you notice that starkly different in
- 1:10:50your perspective as a result of having lived on a farm?
- 1:10:58I think it's more like I'm more in touch with the nature side of
- 1:11:03stuff and that they just walking through but buildings every day
- 1:11:09and I'm just like Vulcan through Bulls every shit.
- 1:11:18So it's just like, It is, it is different, but obviously there
- 1:11:25are definite, some of the similarities as well, but it is
- 1:11:30different than the way that would be brought up because
- 1:11:32obviously being brought up in a city completely changes, they
- 1:11:37prospective and all that and being brought up on a farm,
- 1:11:41like, I have been dating. It. it also changes your
- 1:11:50perspective in a different way because they oh, burning the
- 1:11:56completely different lady and the city.
- 1:12:00You got loads of people around you and you used to having
- 1:12:04everyone around you and all the buildings and all and someone
- 1:12:10raised on a farm like me. Used to. being alone, most of
- 1:12:16the time not like in a bad way because obviously I did and I
- 1:12:23still do have friends but I'm used to being by myself on the
- 1:12:31times. I'm just say doing nothing.
- 1:12:34But they because I can't really ask someone.
- 1:12:41Do you wanna go out today on this?
- 1:12:42I want to go miles Isaiah Expedition.
- 1:12:47Yeah, so I'm by myself most of the time over than times.
- 1:12:56I'm with my band, but I do still try to make sure that I spend
- 1:13:00time with my friends who aren't in the band because obviously,
- 1:13:03but the Bonsai family, they but my friends are still need to be.
- 1:13:11A part of the lines and still be there.
- 1:13:15So it's pretty much. I mean, it's similar like very,
- 1:13:22very close, but there are some massive differences on my when
- 1:13:28you live on a farm. You brought up pretty much.
- 1:13:33Having few people around you. and then, when you brought up,
- 1:13:41And see, there's loads of people around you.
- 1:13:46So, because I had, She dropped out of school.
- 1:13:59Ages ago. So I was even more by myself.
- 1:14:03He said, okay, what I would have before then And just for the
- 1:14:10people watching at, don't recommend dropping out, stay in
- 1:14:15school and keep yourself educated and try to beat that.
- 1:14:21You can cuz You think it'll be more exciting not being in
- 1:14:28education, but just as boring. So, what you doing now, instead
- 1:14:33of school always, you know, you're a bit older now, you're
- 1:14:3518, how you you work in? Do you have, like, a particular
- 1:14:40career field that you're working on, in addition to the music?
- 1:14:46Right now, I'm a bartender. All right?
- 1:14:52local pub and Villages just like Five, ten minutes away from me.
- 1:15:02Yeah. And then on my time off do music
- 1:15:06and gig grounding all are Which is a weird combination jobs
- 1:15:15because it doesn't leave you with that much time.
- 1:15:19Hmm, what you want to do? Because obviously, sometimes in
- 1:15:22there all night and but, it pays so I'm not happy with it but
- 1:15:31it's a decent job but like Some of the people in the bar.
- 1:15:39Just idiots. And Not not in like a bad way
- 1:15:44but like you know, like sometimes can be a bit mean
- 1:15:48we're like okay what by that? I mean I'm not really with the
- 1:15:52words because they try to play around too hmm.
- 1:15:55So friends. Yeah I've been locked in the
- 1:15:59cellar before by someone. I was just trying to restock the
- 1:16:08He drinks. And then there's this one guy,
- 1:16:11which is a story that I find quite funny now, didn't at the
- 1:16:15time, but now I find it quite funny.
- 1:16:18There's this, there's this man who He tried it.
- 1:16:24He ordered a plane. He tried to get away with not
- 1:16:28paying for it and I said, may need to pay for, and said, I
- 1:16:33did, he said, I did, he serve doesn't just like, I literally
- 1:16:37remember. It was me serving you.
- 1:16:41And it was like, we just be nice and I was like, well, I just
- 1:16:44hate for it to spin. Nice.
- 1:16:46We do it. I just left off.
- 1:16:48Come on really makes race pretty much the house is the job.
- 1:16:54And then after that, he actually went into swing for it and just
- 1:16:57like me, I don't care how many times you going to swing.
- 1:17:02It is, I'm still gonna keep asking, but I'm worried cause we
- 1:17:06job. But, anyway, see you just?
- 1:17:08You just like this. You're like, can you Hi click
- 1:17:25customer service stories for your time.
- 1:17:29Haven't got a crazy customer story but I've got a crazy
- 1:17:32co-worker story. Go for it. the don't work
- 1:17:37anymore there because they got fired but They were the one to
- 1:17:43drink on the job because the alcohol was there to do it.
- 1:17:50So we've been doing that for a while and had been caught and
- 1:17:54then I just saw them. We just like what in the world
- 1:17:57he did. There's literally a customer
- 1:17:59waiting. There's just happen to you by
- 1:18:02yourself a drink. They know, no enjoy it.
- 1:18:07There was like 15 people waiting to be served and they're in the
- 1:18:12tri just pouring themselves and kind of just when I first
- 1:18:16started just early years serving a pint and then saw him step it
- 1:18:20and I'm just like, What is he's just like?
- 1:18:28Alright, you wait. Oh yeah.
- 1:18:31Wait wait a bit longer because I'm here now.
- 1:18:43But you gotta serve them and it's not as cool as I made it
- 1:18:50out to be. But it's just, I can I can never
- 1:18:54I can imagine the awkwardness because I've worked as a
- 1:18:56bartender worked Pause, I know how is this?
- 1:18:58Some people just really awkward that what there was a guy that
- 1:19:02was caused in in the place that I worked most recently and it
- 1:19:06was just, it was just fascinating in retrospect
- 1:19:09because it happened once or twice.
- 1:19:10So, we started monitoring them and then they just kept doing it
- 1:19:13and we're like, wow. Like I wonder how many drinks
- 1:19:15they're going to steal. He got to like five in the end
- 1:19:18and then we discovered this guy was like stealing from the till
- 1:19:21stealing from other servers. It was It was kind of wild in
- 1:19:25retrospect was like I can't believe.
- 1:19:27Believe this guy was here for this long and got away of this
- 1:19:29this long like wow okay keep away and as we bought more than
- 1:19:37people think. Yeah I think he thought he could
- 1:19:42get away over as well because I remember what I remember being
- 1:19:45told about how he got fired. And apparently, The Story Goes
- 1:19:48that the the manager had some Choice words for him and then
- 1:19:55The guy said I what how did you catch me or not have maybe know
- 1:19:58how did you catch me about? Or what's your proof is what he
- 1:20:00said. And he said me we have you on
- 1:20:02CCTV it. Apparently the guys response was
- 1:20:05a fuck like, oh no, you remembered my master plan and
- 1:20:10it's like, dude, there's cameras everywhere like in the
- 1:20:13particular bar that he was working at say this is the
- 1:20:16station where it's working. Making these drinks, right?
- 1:20:18The cameras, literally right there.
- 1:20:20So it's like overhead sees everything that you're doing,
- 1:20:22there's no way you can be seen unless you're Underneath that
- 1:20:25camera like making a drink. It's just bizarre.
- 1:20:29Yeah, I guess maybe just was a bit dim, I don't know.
- 1:20:33I mean, you're only got these, these types of stories from bar
- 1:20:36where it's true. It's true.
- 1:20:40As we draw things to a close for today.
- 1:20:41Do you have any upcoming projects or some final thoughts
- 1:20:44that you'd like to share with our listeners?
- 1:20:46Well, we've got a gig that we rehearse and for whoo.
- 1:20:54Quite Quite heavily. It's not too soon but that it's
- 1:21:01on the 26th of August and it apart in the park in more Perth,
- 1:21:08tickets are being sold. So if you want to check us out
- 1:21:14they're not too expensive to take it.
- 1:21:17So if you do want to check us out we'll have not told us the
- 1:21:20name of your band mate. What's the name of the band
- 1:21:23record Les way? Things.
- 1:21:25There's, which actually ties in with another thing is actually
- 1:21:30m. we do have a weird inside joke with funds on band members
- 1:21:38and even the manager which is a they because something is not
- 1:21:44our name once in the went, because we're talking about the
- 1:21:48band and the mispronounced a name like Also check out lesbian
- 1:21:53wings, like I'm just like, not all named not on it, he just
- 1:22:00took it anyway, why not? Yeah, go with it.
- 1:22:01Yeah, that's what, yeah. So, apparently, I don't even
- 1:22:12know if this is true. I just got told that is the in
- 1:22:17friends Fresh. So you just say, All right, we
- 1:22:21just call the wings and I'm we just found out what that man?
- 1:22:27Who gets like, so the wings sounds.
- 1:22:31Pretty terrible. Pretty sure it's taken as well.
- 1:22:36Yeah, I think so. I was told that is so
- 1:22:51influential. Why not just do Les Wings.
- 1:22:53Anyway, the girls off the tongue.
- 1:22:55It sounds cool. So we just went with it right on
- 1:22:59man. Well, I wish you the very best
- 1:23:01of luck with your gig and you're gigging, and then I know you'll
- 1:23:04do well, got a good head on. Those shoulders are going to be
- 1:23:07absolutely fine and yeah, it's been an absolute pleasure having
