- 10:50SPEAKER_09: Uh uh Def Leopard over Boston.

- 27:50SPEAKER_09: My winner.
- 27:55SPEAKER_09: And Halen.
- 27:56SPEAKER_15: Oh, interesting.
- 27:57SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 27:57SPEAKER_15: All right.
- 27:58SPEAKER_09: And yours.
- 27:59SPEAKER_15: My winner.
- 28:03SPEAKER_15: The field.
- 28:06SPEAKER_09: Ilsa's winner.
- 28:12SPEAKER_15: It's like the drummer's getting drunker.
- 28:15SPEAKER_15: Metallica.
- 28:16SPEAKER_15: Ilsa wild.
- 28:18SPEAKER_15: Illsa good Metallica.
- 28:19SPEAKER_15: Nice.
- 28:19SPEAKER_15: Alright, and Larry?
- 28:20SPEAKER_15: Cousin Larry, the winner.
- 28:25SPEAKER_15: The Beatles also.
- 28:26SPEAKER_15: Because we're a family.
- 28:28SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 28:29SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 28:30SPEAKER_09: So let me read you a couple of things that Bounce and Bob had said here.
- 28:35SPEAKER_09: So let's see.
- 28:37SPEAKER_09: For Ilsa's selections, some of this I already read to you, but he says in round one, uh, I already told you that part.
- 28:44SPEAKER_09: Um she was mad she had to eliminate the Beastie Boys so early.
- 28:50SPEAKER_09: Uh in the later rounds, she likes Dave Grohl, so the Foo Fighters lasted a long time in the tournament for her.
- 28:57SPEAKER_09: Her big upset was B-52's over the Beatles.
- 29:01SPEAKER_09: She said, and I have to disagree with Ilsa on this, she said the B-52's Rock Lobster was one of the best songs of all time.
- 29:10SPEAKER_13: I love it.
- 29:12SPEAKER_09: Everyone has their, you know.
- 29:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's everything.
- 29:15SPEAKER_13: Everybody's got their thing.
- 29:15SPEAKER_09: That's awesome.
- 29:16SPEAKER_09: If I never heard rock lobster again in my life, I would Rock Lobster! Uh another of her upsets was Triumph, Eating Cream and Tool.
- 29:24SPEAKER_09: I already told you that.
- 29:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 29:25SPEAKER_09: Uh Kiss a Metallica final was a close one, but Metallica is what she listens to the most.
- 29:30SPEAKER_09: Nice.
- 29:30SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 29:31SPEAKER_09: And for Bob, he said his picks were more traditional, old rock and roll rules.
- 29:37SPEAKER_09: Uh biggest upset Led Zeppelin over the Beatles.
- 29:39SPEAKER_09: He was anti-Beatles from the age of 10 to the age of 40.
- 29:44SPEAKER_14: Wow.
- 29:45SPEAKER_09: Came around as the wife was a Teeny Bopper Screaming Beatles fan who convinced him that they were great.
- 29:50SPEAKER_09: He's a huge U-2 and Bono devotee.
- 29:54SPEAKER_09: He thinks they're the definitive rock band.
- 29:56SPEAKER_09: I like them, Bob, but I disagree.
- 29:58SPEAKER_09: Um Led Zeppelin is uh but Led Zeppelin 2 is in my mind unquestionably the greatest of all time of all albums.
- 30:06SPEAKER_09: My friends and I listened to it endlessly while in junior high school.
- 30:10SPEAKER_09: So some good picks.
- 30:11SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 30:12SPEAKER_09: That was fun.
- 30:12SPEAKER_09: It was fun.
- 30:13SPEAKER_09: I knew it was gonna be Van Halen for me.
- 30:15SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 30:16SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I knew it was gonna be Beatles for me.
- 30:18SPEAKER_15: Eventually, somehow.
- 30:19SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 30:19SPEAKER_15: That was gonna be the Beatles.
- 30:20SPEAKER_09: I knew that was uh I knew that was gonna happen.
- 30:22SPEAKER_09: So uh but that was uh uh Eric Clapton didn't last very long for me, which was which surprised me.
- 30:28SPEAKER_09: Um but yeah No, that was fun.
- 30:31SPEAKER_09: That was fun.
- 30:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that was good.
- 30:33SPEAKER_09: Were there any bands that were not on here that you might have put on here?
- 30:36SPEAKER_15: Oh, I was like uh there was a couple I thought of like the Ramones.
- 30:38SPEAKER_15: The Ramones weren't on here.
- 30:40SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 30:40SPEAKER_15: Uh who else did I think of?
- 30:42SPEAKER_15: Um there was there was a couple others I thought of, but you know, I would have put like public enemy on mine and you know, stuff like you know.
- 30:54SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 30:54SPEAKER_15: Yeah, things like that, but still, I was uh this was a good list.
- 30:58SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I agree.
- 31:00SPEAKER_09: I enjoyed it.
- 31:00SPEAKER_09: So okay, so let's see if we can get to some rock news.
- 31:03SPEAKER_09: I'm just gonna read you some headlines.
- 31:05SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 31:05SPEAKER_09: And you tell me if you care.
- 31:08SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 31:09SPEAKER_09: Care or not.
- 31:10SPEAKER_09: This is Doug's care or not care.
- 31:11SPEAKER_09: And we'll uh we'll read the story if you're gonna.
- 31:13SPEAKER_09: Don't care.

- 31:28unknown: T.
- 31:29SPEAKER_09: But I thought we knew that.
- 31:30SPEAKER_09: But uh i yeah, but I looked on Extreme's website and the Bangor is not on their tour.
- 31:35SPEAKER_09: Oh.
- 31:36SPEAKER_09: So I don't know who's opening for Def Leopard, if anybody is opening for Def Leopard.

- 33:06SPEAKER_09: I agree.
- 33:07SPEAKER_15: Come on.
- 33:08SPEAKER_09: Come on.
- 33:09SPEAKER_09: This song was ranked as like the worst song ever in several different lists, and it's apparently on their list of guilty pleasures.
- 33:17SPEAKER_09: We built this city.
- 33:19SPEAKER_09: Starship.
- 33:21SPEAKER_15: Okay, I I can see why, but I don't like the song.
- 33:24SPEAKER_09: You don't like the song at all?
- 33:25SPEAKER_15: No, no, I mean it's okay.
- 33:27SPEAKER_09: It doesn't bring you back.
- 33:30SPEAKER_09: It doesn't bring you.
- 33:31SPEAKER_09: It's not like nostalgic for you at all.
- 33:34SPEAKER_16: It is, but I just I never even liked it back then that much.

- 34:02SPEAKER_15: I don't know.
- 34:03SPEAKER_15: I wouldn't call it a guilty pleasure.
- 34:04SPEAKER_15: It's just a great song.
- 34:05SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 34:06SPEAKER_15: It's fun.
- 34:07SPEAKER_09: Is this because let me read what they wrote here because Yeah, I want to understand what their their definition of guilty pleasure is.
- 34:13SPEAKER_09: If there was ever a decade that defined the musical guilty pleasure, it was the eighties.
- 34:16SPEAKER_09: The advent of new technologies unlocked sonic possibilities like never before.
- 34:20SPEAKER_09: Blessed with a broad array of sounds, many musicians embraced a heavy dose of synthesizers and drum machines.
- 34:24SPEAKER_09: These new tools also helped usher in the popularity of epic power ballads, which permeated without the decade.
- 34:30SPEAKER_09: I think they meant throughout the decade.
- 34:32SPEAKER_09: That's a little typo there, guys.
- 34:34SPEAKER_09: In short, the eighties had a distinct sound, and not every song has aged with grace.
- 34:38SPEAKER_09: Yes, there are plenty of eighties tunes fans still play at full blast, but what about the ones people are much more reluctant to admit they enjoy?
- 34:46SPEAKER_09: We've put together a list of twenty classic guilty pleasure songs.
- 34:49SPEAKER_09: So Toto is not a guilty pleasure song.
- 34:52SPEAKER_15: That's just a great song.
- 34:52SPEAKER_09: It is.
- 35:09SPEAKER_15: That's a pretty great song.
- 35:10SPEAKER_15: I mean it's not one of my favorites, but it's not one of my favorites either.
- 35:12SPEAKER_15: It's great.
- 35:13SPEAKER_09: It's pretty okay.
- 35:14SPEAKER_09: I wouldn't say I'm ashamed to well, I mean, maybe because of the content.
- 35:20SPEAKER_14: I mean, I'm not sure.
- 35:21SPEAKER_15: It's pretty raunchy, but it's Motley Crue.
- 35:24SPEAKER_15: I mean, come on.
- 35:25SPEAKER_09: Tony Basil's Mickey.
- 35:27SPEAKER_15: I do.
- 35:27SPEAKER_15: That is a guilty pleasure song.
- 35:28SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 35:31SPEAKER_15: You're that you hear that, you're all like, you're all you're already like, eh, Mickey, it's a fine, it's a fine, you blow my mind.
- 35:39SPEAKER_16: Hey Mickey.
- 35:40SPEAKER_16: Do I have that right?
- 35:40SPEAKER_16: Hey Mickey.
- 35:42SPEAKER_15: That's pretty close, yeah.
- 35:44SPEAKER_10: Is that hold on?
- 35:44SPEAKER_09: That sounds more like the go-go.
- 35:46SPEAKER_09: You're right, it does.
- 35:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 35:46SPEAKER_09: Let's see what it is.
- 35:48SPEAKER_09: Come on, Mickey.
- 35:52SPEAKER_10: Oh.
- 35:59SPEAKER_15: Wasn't she like 40 when she wrote it?
- 36:01SPEAKER_15: She was.
- 36:02SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 36:02SPEAKER_15: She was.
- 36:03SPEAKER_09: She was a choreographer.
- 36:04SPEAKER_15: I know.
- 36:04SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 36:05SPEAKER_15: This is so great.
- 36:07SPEAKER_09: Well, we can't say this is a guilty pleasure because we well, we, I guess we can.
- 36:11SPEAKER_09: We play this song in our acoustic set.
- 36:14SPEAKER_09: Rick Astley's never gonna give you up.
- 36:16SPEAKER_15: I'm not ashamed to admit I love that song.
- 36:18SPEAKER_15: Oh yeah.
- 36:18SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 36:18SPEAKER_15: That's I love that song.
- 36:20SPEAKER_15: That's uh I will always love that song.
- 36:23SPEAKER_15: Even though everybody, everybody in the planet thought he was black when this song came out.
- 36:28SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 36:28SPEAKER_15: Everybody thought that.
- 36:30SPEAKER_15: And then when they found out he was white and British, everybody's like, why?
- 36:34SPEAKER_09: Great soulful voice.
- 36:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's great, great.
- 36:36SPEAKER_09: Living on a prayer is not a guilty pleasure.
- 36:38SPEAKER_09: Bon Jovi?
- 36:39SPEAKER_09: No.
- 36:40SPEAKER_16: That's a that's a that's an anthem.
- 36:42SPEAKER_09: Come on.
- 36:43SPEAKER_09: Get it together ultimately.
- 36:45SPEAKER_09: Uh well.
- 36:46SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 36:47SPEAKER_09: Mick Jagger and David Bowie dancing in the streets.
- 36:49SPEAKER_15: That I can say.
- 36:50SPEAKER_15: That would be a dilty play.
- 36:52SPEAKER_15: I do actually like this.
- 36:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 36:53SPEAKER_15: I do actually like that one.
- 36:55SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 36:56SPEAKER_15: I mean, the I mean the the video is a little but you know.
- 37:01SPEAKER_09: I like how you did that.
- 37:04SPEAKER_15: But it's it's a pretty fun song.
- 37:06SPEAKER_09: Here's one uh you might be ashamed to admit.
- 37:08SPEAKER_09: I'm not ashamed to admit.
- 37:10SPEAKER_09: They're actually doing it in St.
- 37:11SPEAKER_15: Domo Rigato Mr.

- 37:19SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 37:19SPEAKER_09: There was a time when Styx didn't play it in concert.
- 37:23SPEAKER_09: Um, because there was so much fallout from Well, I I think that's just because of Dennis the Young.
- 37:29SPEAKER_15: I mean, he just he just ruined it for everybody.
- 37:31SPEAKER_09: Yeah, well.
- 37:32SPEAKER_15: You know, he just took it too seriously.
- 37:34SPEAKER_09: But they're they're read recently that it's back in the set.
- 37:39SPEAKER_09: They're doing a rockin' version noise of uh of the song.
- 37:45SPEAKER_09: I remember when this came out when I was a kid.
- 37:47SPEAKER_09: Holy cow.
- 37:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah, everybody was like, what is this?
- 38:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah, anyway.
- 38:05SPEAKER_09: Uh let's see.
- 38:06SPEAKER_09: Wham.

- 38:20SPEAKER_15: I do too, but I would I wouldn't uh back then I wouldn't admit it to it.
- 38:23SPEAKER_15: That's probably true.
- 38:24SPEAKER_09: You know, so that's true.
- 38:25SPEAKER_15: But yeah, I so I can see that.
- 38:26SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 38:26SPEAKER_15: Europe's the final countdown.
- 38:28SPEAKER_15: I don't know why they'd be guilty pleasure.
- 38:30SPEAKER_15: That's a that's a great song.
- 38:31SPEAKER_09: Maybe it's because it's been they killed it.
- 38:33SPEAKER_15: Maybe.
- 38:34SPEAKER_15: I mean, you know, it was everywhere.
- 38:35SPEAKER_15: You couldn't get away from it.
- 38:36SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 38:37SPEAKER_15: You know, so whoops.
- 38:40SPEAKER_15: You still have the drum set.
- 38:41SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I know.
- 38:42SPEAKER_09: But this is what the final countdown sounds like with drums.
- 38:48SPEAKER_15: It's like watching those YouTube videos where they take the like people are dancing in a video and they take the music out, and all you can hear is just like making noises.
- 38:58SPEAKER_09: Oh, there it is.
- 39:01SPEAKER_09: Let me get uh let me get some more 80s stuff in here.
- 39:04SPEAKER_15: Alright.
- 39:07SPEAKER_15: Closer.
- 39:16SPEAKER_09: Here we go, let's see.
- 39:19SPEAKER_09: I'm wasting time on this, I know.
- 39:20SPEAKER_09: Hold on.
- 39:21SPEAKER_15: Like straight up 80 synth.
- 39:23SPEAKER_15: I know, that's what I was looking for.
- 39:24SPEAKER_09: Oh, because I'm on keyboard, that's why.
- 39:26SPEAKER_09: Hold on.
- 39:26SPEAKER_15: Synthesizer should be a Europe setting.
- 39:32SPEAKER_15: No.
- 39:39SPEAKER_09: No.
- 39:40SPEAKER_09: Well, where is it?

- 39:58SPEAKER_09: Hold on, let me go back to synthesizer.
- 40:00SPEAKER_09: Let's go.
- 40:00SPEAKER_09: Is it brass?
- 40:02SPEAKER_09: No, it's not brass.
- 40:03SPEAKER_09: 80s fantasy.
- 40:07SPEAKER_10: No.

- 40:24SPEAKER_09: There you go.
- 40:25SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 40:26SPEAKER_09: I was gonna leave it on that.

- 40:31SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah.
- 40:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's a guilty pleasure.
- 40:33SPEAKER_09: That's a guilty pleasure.
- 40:34SPEAKER_15: I think, I think, well, for guys, it was just more about the video.
- 40:37SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 40:37SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 40:37SPEAKER_15: Olivia Newton John working out.
- 40:39SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 40:40SPEAKER_09: But uh, she's not the only one working out.
- 40:41SPEAKER_09: There's like all kinds of other, you know.
- 40:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah, nobody was paying any attention.
- 40:44SPEAKER_09: No, that's true.
- 40:45SPEAKER_09: That's true.
- 40:46SPEAKER_09: Phil Collins, Sususudio.
- 40:48SPEAKER_09: Sorry, I love it.
- 40:49SPEAKER_15: I love that song too.

- 41:01SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 41:01SPEAKER_09: All right.
- 41:03SPEAKER_09: This is of course Eddie Murphy, Rick Gaines producing.
- 41:07SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 41:11SPEAKER_09: Says Murphy's vocals are weak and buried in the midst.
- 41:17SPEAKER_09: Not that there's much going on with the lyrics.
- 41:35SPEAKER_09: It's definitely doing like uh impressions of Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson at the same time.

- 58:52SPEAKER_15: In the invited audience at the studio in Wembley, North London was the Sanskrit scholar Juan Muscaro, a Cambridge professor.
- 59:02SPEAKER_15: I didn't see that coming.
- 59:04SPEAKER_15: The following month, Muscaro wrote to George in closing a copy of Lamps of Fire, a collection of spiritual wisdom from various traditions, which he had edited.
- 59:16SPEAKER_15: He suggested that George might consider putting verses from the Tao De Chang to music, a particular in particular poem titled The Inner Light.
- 59:26SPEAKER_15: Okay, well, there it goes.
- 59:27SPEAKER_15: In his preferences to Lamps of Fire, first published in 1958, Muscaro wrote, quote, the passages of this book are lamps of fire.
- 59:36SPEAKER_15: Some shine more and some shine less, but they all merge into that vast lamp called by St.
- 59:42SPEAKER_15: John of the Cross, the lamp of the being of God.
- 59:48SPEAKER_15: Wow.
- 59:48SPEAKER_15: The inter the Interlay was the first song of George's to appear on a single when it became the B side of Lady Madonna.
- 59:56SPEAKER_09: Interesting.
- 59:57SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 59:58SPEAKER_15: But you can tell it's definitely a George song.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I uh like I said, when you pick this, I I don't think I've ever heard this song before.

- 1:01:19SPEAKER_16: These guys are great, yeah.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_09: Sorry.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_09: I forget.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_15: And we're gonna play it.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_15: Okay.
- 1:01:33SPEAKER_15: Anyway.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_15: So it's a duo.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_15: Hide a popularity.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_15: Are you still around?
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_16: Oh, it's uh Annie Lennox of the Eurythmix.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_10: Eurythmix.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 1:02:51SPEAKER_10: Oh sorry.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_06: Sweet dreams are made of the whoever.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_09: I like that though.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_09: I'll keep the keyboard here to give you hints.
- 1:03:02SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's pretty great.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_09: That wasn't the one I played, but.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah, they had a bunch of hits.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_09: Why yeah.
- 1:03:12SPEAKER_09: Here's what I have the Ultimate Collections.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_09: Oh, alright.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_09: Um, of course, did you ever hear Marilyn Manson's version of this?
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:03:21SPEAKER_15: It's not as good.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_09: It's not as good.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_15: Um What's that meme that goes around?
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_15: It's got a picture of Marilyn Manson.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_15: It's like, it looks like Marilyn Manson is trying to dress up like Nicolas Cage or something like that.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_15: Oh, it's Marilyn Manson dressing up like Nicholas Cage trying to dress up like Marilyn Manson or something like that.
- 1:03:42SPEAKER_09: Here's what I here's the hint I gave you was this one.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_09: Probably had it in the the wrong key, but that's pretty close.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that is the right key.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_09: This, of course, is Here Comes the Rain Again.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_09: The extended version, apparently.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_09: Oh, okay.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_09: Well, there you go.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_09: What I like about these guys is um It was pop music, but she has such a soulful voice.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah, she she's on a whole other level.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_09: Uh and it was because I mean she could do anything from like she could do Mavis Staples.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_09: Not as good as Mavis Staples, but I mean she could do that type of stuff.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_09: Uh RB and soul music, and but but with the Eurythmics, it was straight pop.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_09: Dave Stewart, you know, was has had that.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_15: That's his name, Dave.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_15: I knew it was Dave something.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_15: I couldn't think of it.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_09: I bet you I'm gonna play a couple of these.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_09: I bet you you forgot about them.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_09: Oh, probably.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_09: So this one you know.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_09: Do you remember this one?
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_15: Oh yeah.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_09: This is a great song.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_09: Would I lie to you?
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_09: I was having this conversation with somebody, and maybe it was in the thread.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_09: It was in our Comic Crossing thread.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_09: Take the production value away.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_09: Music in the 80s was just more musical.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_15: Yeah, because it didn't rely on technology yet.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_09: Well, I mean, not only that, it just there was more chords, there was more melody, yeah, there were more layers to it.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_09: Um granted, I mean the lyrics were, you know, whatever.
- 1:05:49SPEAKER_15: Well, I think uh I think it's because we're it was still coming out of the it was still I don't want to say it was in infancy, but it was definitely in its rebellious teenage years.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean?
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_09: So I think so the way it worked, I think, was and this is just you know take take this for as a grain grain of salt if you want, but the music in the sixties, besides like the Beatles.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_09: Actually the Beatles in the beginning, uh the music was very easy.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_09: You know, great melodies, uh pop and just fun.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_09: Then they got into this phase where they were experimenting, which was great.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_09: But in general, music in the 50s and 60s was simple.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:06:32SPEAKER_09: In the 70s, it it it overcorrected.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_09: So you had Steely Dan.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:40SPEAKER_09: You had um Atlanta Rhythm Section, you had Doobie Brothers.
- 1:06:43SPEAKER_09: Doobie Brothers, yeah.
- 1:06:44SPEAKER_09: Where there was a lot of chords and just kind of just early Chicago.
- 1:06:49SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:06:50SPEAKER_09: Yeah, and and they they overcorrected.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_09: It's like very difficult stuff.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_09: The 80s was, you know, the production value changed, obviously.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_09: It got corny.
- 1:06:59SPEAKER_15: Well, I think I think there was more tools, and there therefore there was more freedom to do more things.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_09: And I'm not saying all music in the 80s was was better.
- 1:07:08SPEAKER_15: I mean, there was obviously No, there was obviously crap.
- 1:07:10SPEAKER_15: There's crap in every decade.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_09: Right, but I just think, you know, the musicality in the 70s and 80s was better than even in the 90s.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_09: And it it just it's today it's like everything is three chords and oh everything's dumbed down just like everybody else.
- 1:07:30SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_09: You know, so and and with some exceptions, there's music out there that's uh amazing and complicated that I haven't heard.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_09: You know, there still is.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_09: But the stuff that is on the radio, the stuff that is rising to the top, the stuff that people are following, it's all poo.
- 1:07:46SPEAKER_09: Easy stuff.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_09: You know?
- 1:07:48SPEAKER_09: I say that, and somebody's gonna, you know, one of our 35 listeners is gonna be like, Hey, you're wrong, wrong.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_10: You should hear this one for Taylor Swift.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_10: You're a big dummy dummy.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_10: Do you remember this song?
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_15: I don't think so.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_15: I don't remember.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_09: Give it a second, give it a second.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_09: Wait for the chorus.
- 1:08:27SPEAKER_06: Cooler than ice cream and warmer than a stone.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_15: Cooler than ice cream and warmer than the sun.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_06: Just let it be.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_06: I don't know about that.
- 1:08:50SPEAKER_06: But there's just one thing.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_07: Just one thing.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_07: But there's just one thing.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_16: Get to it.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_15: No, I don't think I don't think I remember this one.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_15: No.
- 1:09:11SPEAKER_15: Wasn't as big a hit.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_15: Nah, I tell with the lyrics like cooler than ice cream and warmer than the sun.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_15: I mean, I can't explain why.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_09: Tell me if you tell me you know this one though, because I this is one of my favorite ones.
- 1:09:23unknown: Alright.
- 1:09:26SPEAKER_07: I was born.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_07: Oh yeah.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_15: This song friggin' slap.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_09: Dude, missionary man.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_15: Yeah, this is a great song.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_07: There'd be a mountain money pile of tomatoes.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_15: Somebody hasn't already done that.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_09: I bet they have.
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_07: Don't mess with a Mr.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_07: Morgan.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_09: Oh wow.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_07: Don't mess with a Mr.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_09: Mark Man.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_09: So ask and you shall receive.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_09: Uh there's a couple of covers.
- 1:10:27SPEAKER_09: Um Anne Wilson of Heart.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_09: Oh.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_09: Interesting.
- 1:10:31SPEAKER_09: I'm just curious.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_01: I was born in a regional sinner.
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_01: I was born from a regional sin.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_01: If I had a dime bill for all the things I've done, there'd be a mountain of money pile up to my chin.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_16: Honestly, it's kind of thin.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it is.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_09: I was gonna say the same thing.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_09: And Anne Wilson is one of she's one of the best singers ever.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_09: Greatest singers ever.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_09: Uh oh my.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_09: Let's see what this one sounds like.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_15: Who is this?
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_00: Well, I was born an original sin.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_00: I was born from original sin.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_00: And if I had a dollar bill for all the things I've done, there'd be a mountain of money pile up to my chin.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_00: Strong, she said be true to yourself.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_00: You can't go wrong, but there's just one thing that you must understand.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_00: You can fool with your brother, but don't mess with a missionary man.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_15: See, now if you took out his vocals and put Ann Wilson's vocals in there, this would be awesome.
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:12:06SPEAKER_09: I I I like that version better than Ann Wilson's.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:12:10SPEAKER_15: But I like her vocals better than his.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_15: But neither one of them matches the arrhythmics.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_15: No.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_09: And and I don't think it's just because it's the original.
- 1:12:18SPEAKER_09: I think it's just I think it's just Annie Lennox.
- 1:12:20SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I do too.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_09: And the production.
- 1:12:22SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_09: Read.
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_09: Anyway, there you go.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_09: The uh let's see, the ultimate uh collection.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_09: The arithmetic collection.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_09: That is the uh album of the week.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_15: I don't think we've ever done the arrhythmic before.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_15: That was the wall of to We did the arithmetics and some other songs too.
- 1:12:52SPEAKER_15: There was all kinds of arrhythmic songs that you thought you knew.
- 1:12:59SPEAKER_15: And this is Billy Joel doing arrhythmic songs.
- 1:13:08SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_09: I like the keyboard.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_15: It does, it adds a it adds a touch of class to our podcast.
- 1:13:17SPEAKER_15: Class?
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_15: I don't know.
- 1:13:19SPEAKER_15: Oh, I think so.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_15: I mean, how many other podcasts have a have a keyboard?
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_15: Well, I guess that's true.
- 1:13:25SPEAKER_15: See, there you go.
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_15: See?
- 1:13:26SPEAKER_15: Automatically classy.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_15: This is like this is like the piano bar of podcasts.
- 1:13:32SPEAKER_09: I just like the fact that you're gonna make up a theme song every day, every week.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_15: Heck yeah, man, because this is what I do.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_09: I just I'll just start playing something and you you you make it up.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_15: I'll just riff on it, man.
- 1:13:42SPEAKER_15: I'm still trying to see if we've done any rhythmics before my time.
- 1:13:47SPEAKER_15: I've tried to find new rhythmics in my book.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_12: I don't think we've gone before.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_09: Wait, we need hold on.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_09: We need something else.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_09: Hold on, let's see.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_10: Let me do this.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_15: No, that's the first time we've ever done eurythmics, man.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_10: Here we are.
- 1:14:20SPEAKER_10: Ready?
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_12: We were talking about neurhmix.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_12: How do you spell that?
- 1:14:40SPEAKER_09: This is how you spell it.
- 1:14:48SPEAKER_09: We're gonna make some musical magic with this with this.
- 1:14:52SPEAKER_15: I can't even see right now.
- 1:14:54SPEAKER_15: Okay, I got it.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_15: Thank you.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_15: Girl, I'm gonna miss you.
- 1:15:06SPEAKER_15: Sitting on the porch and looking at some girls going by the cars.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_15: Down curls.
- 1:15:14SPEAKER_15: It's great.
- 1:15:16SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:15:19SPEAKER_16: Yeah.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_16: Cruising down Main Street looking for some chicks.
- 1:15:27SPEAKER_16: We're gonna go to Dead River Company and turn around.
- 1:15:32SPEAKER_16: Cruise back through town.
- 1:15:34SPEAKER_16: Looking for some girls, looking for some beer, looking for everything in near beer.
- 1:15:45SPEAKER_09: Not exactly sure what that was.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_15: I'm not either.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_15: I don't even know where I was going with that.
- 1:15:49SPEAKER_15: It's just I just that just sounded like something like Warren G, you know, you know Regulators! Mount up.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_13: We can have fun, though.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I'm done.
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_15: This is genius.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_15: We're gonna have so much fun with this, man.
- 1:16:01SPEAKER_15: Alright.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_10: Very cool.
- 1:16:03SPEAKER_15: It's not like we have to do anything.
- 1:16:05SPEAKER_15: It's just it's already been here.
- 1:16:06SPEAKER_15: It's been here the whole time.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_09: It has been here the whole time.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_09: I just never turned it on.
- 1:16:09SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:16:10SPEAKER_15: I tell you, man.
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_09: Alright, that's it.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_09: That is.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_15: We just took the podcast to a whole different level.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_09: You know, we never even said this is uh episode 235.
- 1:16:18SPEAKER_15: No, we were just so excited about the keyboard.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_15: Yeah, I guess so.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_15: Yeah.
- 1:16:21SPEAKER_09: So episode 235 is now in the books.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_09: And uh we'll be back next week.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_09: Next week.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_09: More keyboard songs.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_09: More keyboard songs.
- 1:16:30SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we'll try and I was gonna say we'll try and have something prepared, but we won't.
- 1:16:34SPEAKER_09: It's more fun.
- 1:16:34SPEAKER_09: Why would we do that?
- 1:16:35SPEAKER_15: It's more fun just to make prepare stuff.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_10: Whatever.
- 1:16:41SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 1:16:42SPEAKER_10: Uh, I guess until next week, I'm O'Brien.
- 1:16:44SPEAKER_10: I'm still Doug.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_15: Bye, everybody.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_15: Bye! We're leaving now.
- 1:16:49SPEAKER_16: It's the end of the podcast.
- 1:16:51SPEAKER_16: We're gonna go home and eat pizza.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_16: Yeah, I don't know why I like pizza.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_09: Pizza is really good.
- 1:17:00SPEAKER_09: My favorite part though is when you start rapping and you're talking about picking up chicks at 52 years old.
- 1:17:07SPEAKER_09: We're cruising, picking up chicks, and getting some beer.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_09: When's the last time you be done neither of those things?
- 1:17:17SPEAKER_11: I don't even remember the last time I did any of that.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_15: Dog, you've never done either of those things.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_15: Well, I did a lot of my drinks.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_15: Like 30, 40 years ago.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_15: Well, maybe thirty.
- 1:17:36SPEAKER_15: How old am I?
- 1:17:38SPEAKER_09: 52.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_16: So yeah, like 30 years ago.
- 1:17:41SPEAKER_15: It's entirely possible I did those things.
- 1:17:44SPEAKER_15: Sure.
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_14: Now no.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_15: I'd be like cruising Main Street, gonna pick up some meds, gonna see.
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_15: Gonna go to Walgreens, get my procryptic prescription.
