- 0:07Speaker 3: Welcome to the biggest show on earth. Biggest show.
- 0:11Speaker 1: The biggest. Biggest.
- 0:12Speaker 3: This is big. The Hodaki Big Show.
- 0:14Speaker 4: With Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue and Keezy.
- 0:18Speaker 5: G'day you massive backbones. It is the Hodaki Big Show
- 0:21Speaker 5: brought to you by our good mates over at Reburger
- 0:24Speaker 5: with the handcrafted street food. Ah, that's really quite yummy. And,
- 0:30Speaker 5: of course, Hoodie J and Keezy are on holiday, but
- 0:32Speaker 5: that's not stopping us from having an absolute party. And
- 0:35Speaker 5: speaking of which, Mogi, happy birthday, man. Love you.
- 0:40Speaker 3: Thanks, man. What did you buy me?
- 0:43Speaker 5: Huh?
- 0:43Speaker 3: What did you buy me? Pugs.
- 0:48Speaker 5: Huh? What's that?
- 0:49Speaker 3: Can you turn that music down, man?
- 0:50Speaker 4: Oh, sorry.
- 0:51Speaker 5: No, that's just getting the hype up from the start
- 0:52Speaker 5: of that.
- 0:52Speaker 3: What did you buy me? Music's going up again.
- 0:57Speaker 5: Happy birthday, Mogi Man. We're going to get into what's
- 1:00Speaker 5: been going on.
- 1:00Speaker 3: Did you get me best wishes?
- 1:03Speaker 5: Heaps of them.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Because it's kind of like thoughts and prayers, isn't it,
- 1:07Speaker 3: for people with birthdays?
- 1:08Speaker 5: But positive connotation. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You've got my happy
- 1:11Speaker 5: thoughts and my even happier prayers, man.
- 1:13Speaker 3: I really appreciate it, man. I kind of need a
- 1:15Speaker 3: laugh for the day that I've had. We'll get into it.
- 1:17Speaker 5: Absolutely.
- 1:18Speaker 3: But it's been a few trials, a few tribulations as
- 1:23Speaker 3: I venture into my 50s. Good on you, man. I'm excited.
- 1:26Speaker 5: Talk us through what's coming up on the show, brother.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Douche, douche, douche, douche.
- 1:32Speaker 5: What's happening on the show with Old Mogi?
- 1:36Speaker 3: Well, it's Old Mogi's birthday, so you can keep things.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Wait, what?
- 1:40Speaker 5: Happy birthday, man.
- 1:40Speaker 4: Old Mogi, man.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Literally Old Mogi now. He's 50 years old. Sent us
- 1:46Speaker 3: through a text on 3483, bagging him. That's our tradition
- 1:50Speaker 3: around here.
- 1:50Speaker 5: Yeah, birthday bagging.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Birthday bagging for old Mogi. We've got Chopper coming in
- 1:55Speaker 3: after 5 o'clock to have a bit of a yarn.
- 1:57Speaker 5: He's the man.
- 1:58Speaker 3: We've got more songs from bands that I like, and
- 2:00Speaker 3: today it's one from me. And up next we'll talk
- 2:03Speaker 3: about how my day started. Look, you've got to squeeze
- 2:06Speaker 3: everything you can out of a 50er, so there's going
- 2:08Speaker 3: to be a lot of birthday chat today, a lot.
- 2:11Speaker 5: As it bloody should be, mate. But let's kick off
- 2:13Speaker 5: the Arvo with some LMNOP. This is Fast Times in Tahoe.
- 2:16Speaker 5: On Mogi's birthday, all the text in the draw for
- 2:19Speaker 5: a $ 50 rebug about you.
- 2:21Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 2:25Speaker 5: Metallica there on the Hauraki Big Show with Wokeboy and
- 2:28Speaker 5: the Truth, aka Pugs and old Mogi, who's having a
- 2:31Speaker 5: big birthday. Happy birthday again, Mogi.
- 2:35Speaker 3: I'm the birthday boy.
- 2:36Speaker 5: You are the what we like to call in this business,
- 2:39Speaker 5: the birthday boy.
- 2:40Speaker 3: And.
- 2:40Speaker 5: Just before we crack into your amazing day, I know
- 2:44Speaker 5: that you like to lose shit a lot, particularly your sunnies.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Yeah, true.
- 2:48Speaker 5: And you also have a penchant for wearing.
- 2:49Speaker 3: You bought me some sunnies, man.
- 2:51Speaker 5: And you also have a penchant for wearing your wife's sunglasses.
- 2:53Speaker 5: So I got you a pair of sunnies that you
- 2:55Speaker 5: probably wouldn't lose.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Oh, you did. Look at this. I've already got... I
- 2:59Speaker 3: had some. These are great. So for the people out there,
- 3:01Speaker 3: I've got some heart party glasses pink.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Heart party glasses pink. Heart party glasses pink. Yeah, so
- 3:07Speaker 5: it's sort of like we're up there with Ray-Ban and Oakley.
- 3:09Speaker 3: So it's got the price on them, which is three bucks.
- 3:12Speaker 3: You're welcome. But they must have left a couple of
- 3:15Speaker 3: zeros off it. Yeah. There they go. They're pretty sick.
- 3:19Speaker 5: You're not going to lose those while you're having margaritas, man.
- 3:22Speaker 5: That's all I'm saying. No, they're a little bit steamy.
- 3:24Speaker 5: When you're absolutely steamed later.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Pretty hot. Yeah, flick us a text on 3483 if
- 3:29Speaker 3: you'd like to bag me on my birthday. It's been
- 3:31Speaker 3: a hell of a day already, Pugs. As you know,
- 3:34Speaker 3: I've got a tui that lives in a tree very,
- 3:38Speaker 3: very near to my bedroom. And that, you know, I
- 3:42Speaker 3: started my day with that tui there singing me a
- 3:45Speaker 3: happy birthday at 3.45 in the a.m. That's beautiful. Yeah,
- 3:51Speaker 3: I was loving it. And I tried to get back
- 3:54Speaker 3: to sleep, couldn't, so I was up at 4 a.m.,
- 3:57Speaker 3: ready to start my day. I sleep naked, as you know,
- 4:02Speaker 3: as you found out.
- 4:03Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 4:04Speaker 3: And so then I got up, I put on my
- 4:06Speaker 3: track pants, and I've got a hoodie, you know, as
- 4:08Speaker 3: my pyjamas sort of thing. Put that on backwards. Cool.
- 4:12Speaker 3: So I had my face in the back of my hoodie.
- 4:15Speaker 3: So I was like, you beauty, this is going great guns.
- 4:18Speaker 3: This is going great guns.
- 4:20Speaker 5: And I imagine that wouldn't have bothered you so much
- 4:22Speaker 5: had it not been contextualised within the Tui waking you up.
- 4:26Speaker 3: At 4 o'clock. Well, I'll be honest with you, that
- 4:29Speaker 3: did make me laugh when I had my face in
- 4:30Speaker 3: the back of that. Anyway, spent a bit of time
- 4:33Speaker 3: with the daughter, went out, came home, cleared the letterbox. Oh, yeah.
- 4:38Speaker 3: In the letterbox was an $ 800 phone bill.
- 4:40Speaker 5: $ 800?
- 4:40Speaker 3: $ 800. So what had happened there was my provider.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Was meant to be emailing me those bills and had
- 4:56Speaker 3: written down the wrong address, had got themselves the wrong address. Right.
- 5:00Speaker 3: And so they'd been emailing for three months to the
- 5:03Speaker 3: wrong address, and then they gave up and just thought, oh,
- 5:04Speaker 3: we'll go back to paper.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:06Speaker 3: So that was $ 800. There was also a fine in
- 5:08Speaker 3: there for having an unregistered car parked outside my house.
- 5:12Speaker 3: That was $ 200. And then another fine for $ 51 for
- 5:16Speaker 3: parking my car outside my house. which I'm allowed to do.
- 5:19Speaker 3: So out of that, so I've got $ 1, 000 worth of
- 5:21Speaker 3: fines and I've got $ 50, which I'll get off, but
- 5:24Speaker 3: I'll probably have to spend about a week on the
- 5:26Speaker 3: phone trying to get off it.
- 5:27Speaker 5: Yeah, trying to deal with that.
- 5:29Speaker 3: So that was good. Look, there's been a whole bunch
- 5:31Speaker 3: of great stuff that's also happened over the course of
- 5:33Speaker 3: the day. And also I've got a sore kidney for
- 5:38Speaker 3: some reason. Oh, cool. So some kind of a health ailment.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Which when you get to my age, Bugs, it sort
- 5:42Speaker 3: of feels like it's probably death door sort of stuff.
- 5:47Speaker 5: Well, keep your birthday bagging on 3483 to kind of
- 5:50Speaker 5: keep this train going for old Mogi. And look, Mogi,
- 5:53Speaker 5: I know that you've recently had some financial hardship with
- 5:56Speaker 5: all these bills. So I won't be offended if you
- 5:59Speaker 5: want to sell the $ 3 sunglasses.
- 6:01Speaker 3: All right, mate? They're beautiful.
- 6:04Speaker 5: Up next, songs from bands that I like, and we'll
- 6:06Speaker 5: probably read out a couple of your birthday bagging as well.
- 6:08Speaker 5: Every text, every call in the drawer for a $ 50
- 6:11Speaker 5: Reburger voucher. Here's Cage the Elephant on Wokeboy and the Truth.
- 6:17Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 6:20Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 6:23Speaker 4: Oh my God, is that Wokeboy?
- 6:25Speaker 2: And the Truth.
- 6:28Speaker 3: People love it.
- 6:30Speaker 5: They love it, man. And this is Birthday Bagging with
- 6:33Speaker 5: Old Mogi. This is your chance to absolutely bag him
- 6:36Speaker 5: on his birthday via 3483, every one of these texts
- 6:38Speaker 5: in the draw for a $ 50 reburger voucher. First one
- 6:42Speaker 5: out the gate.
- 6:43Speaker 3: What can I say? You can also be nice. So
- 6:46Speaker 3: don't feel like you have to bag me. You can
- 6:47Speaker 3: be nice. Oh, really? But generally we go for bagging.
- 6:50Speaker 5: Generally we go for bagging on the show. Happy birthday,
- 6:54Speaker 5: young mogi. Sounding better than ever. Have a few birthday darts.
- 6:57Speaker 5: That's from Joe.
- 6:58Speaker 3: So that's a nice one. Thanks, mate. That's really nice.
- 7:00Speaker 3: I probably will.
- 7:02Speaker 5: How about, hey, happy born day, old mogi. Word of advice,
- 7:07Speaker 5: maybe start with some moisturising in the morning. You're starting
- 7:09Speaker 5: to resemble something from the bottom of a food dehydrator.
- 7:12Speaker 3: You're welcome. That's from Tristan. The funny thing about that
- 7:15Speaker 3: is I do use a moisturiser. Dion Nash's company, Triumph
- 7:19Speaker 3: and Disaster. So imagine what I'd look like if I
- 7:21Speaker 3: didn't use that. You see what I'm saying?
- 7:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I see what you're saying. Let's do another one here.
- 7:27Speaker 5: Happy birthday, you shockin' bastard. My gift to you is
- 7:30Speaker 5: permission to go have some margaritas at the pub. So
- 7:32Speaker 5: there you go.
- 7:32Speaker 3: That's nice positive reinforcement.
- 7:35Speaker 5: There for you to have a couple more margaritas. Keep
- 7:38Speaker 5: them coming on 3483. We'll probably revisit this later. Birthday baggin'
- 7:43Speaker 5: with old Mogi. But right now, it's time for.
- 7:47Speaker 4: Songs from bands that I like.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Songs from bands that I like. That's right. That's weird.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Pugson and myself, we play songs from bands that we like.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Bands that we... think might have a uh a place
- 7:57Speaker 3: here on radio if they don't already and if they
- 7:59Speaker 3: do have a place maybe these songs could make their
- 8:01Speaker 3: way into the playlist all right um my choice today
- 8:05Speaker 3: today i'm going with a seminal band from my upbringing
- 8:09Speaker 3: uh one of my all-time favorites uh that is pearl
- 8:12Speaker 3: jam and this is off their second album versus there's
- 8:16Speaker 3: a billion great songs that they've got uh go was
- 8:18Speaker 3: big daughter was a huge one off this album possibly
- 8:21Speaker 3: the biggest um there's some other rippers like um Well,
- 8:25Speaker 3: Rearview Mirror, for one. Elder Woman behind Chopped Carrot. There's
- 8:28Speaker 3: so many. But I'm going today with a tune called Dissident.
- 8:35Speaker 5: We want to hear your feedback on 3403 on this
- 8:38Speaker 5: song from a band that Mogi likes.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Don't talk over that guitar, man. Oh, sorry, mate.
- 8:42Speaker 5: 3483.
- 8:44Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 8:48Speaker 5: Pill Jam, Dissident on the Hauraki Big Show. That was
- 8:51Speaker 5: the song from a band that Mogi likes. And just
- 8:53Speaker 5: a quick heads up, that roar of the encore for
- 8:56Speaker 5: Giggle Little could go off at any time. And I've
- 8:58Speaker 5: heard some word that it might be coming up pretty shortly.
- 9:01Speaker 5: So keep your phone on you. Have 0800 Hauraki on
- 9:04Speaker 5: speed dial. When you hear that roar of the encore,
- 9:06Speaker 5: give us a buzz. You could win $ 250 to put
- 9:08Speaker 5: towards a gig of your choice. Cheers to gigs. Cheers
- 9:11Speaker 5: to super liquor.
- 9:12Speaker 3: Mogi. Yeah.
- 9:13Speaker 5: Great song from a great band that you like.
- 9:16Speaker 3: It's a ripper, isn't it? You heard that one before,
- 9:18Speaker 3: young fella?
- 9:19Speaker 5: Wee fella there. I have heard it, and I do
- 9:22Speaker 5: love that tune. And we've got a lot of great
- 9:24Speaker 5: feedback for it on 3483. The Birthday Boy has come
- 9:27Speaker 5: out with a ripping song added to the collection. That's
- 9:29Speaker 5: from Robin. There you go. Straight in the playlist. Great choice, Mogi.
- 9:33Speaker 5: Surprised it's not already on the playlist. I have heard
- 9:35Speaker 5: it on Hauraki.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:36Speaker 5: Definitely not enough.
- 9:37Speaker 3: No. That is a churn.
- 9:40Speaker 5: Absolute backbone of a song. Happy Beer and Cake Day, Mogi.
- 9:43Speaker 5: That's from Damien. And someone said one of the better
- 9:46Speaker 5: Pearl Jam songs. So there you go.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Absolutely. She's a gem.
- 9:49Speaker 5: That is great feedback.
- 9:51Speaker 3: Somebody else here recommending that now that, because it's my
- 9:53Speaker 3: birthday today, that I go and get Scrotox. Scrotox.
- 9:58Speaker 5: Doesn't take a genius to put. the two and two
- 10:00Speaker 5: together and what that is short for. Is that a thing?
- 10:06Speaker 3: Look, I've had a bit of laser treatment down there,
- 10:09Speaker 3: but that is interesting. I don't know if you want
- 10:11Speaker 3: to completely smooth them out. That would make them look
- 10:13Speaker 3: slightly odd. But look, I'm prepared to try anything.
- 10:16Speaker 5: Just a couple of pool balls just clanging there.
- 10:18Speaker 3: If all the fellas just chipped in, you know, Hoity J, Keezy, yourself,
- 10:23Speaker 3: chipped in and got me some scrotox, look, I'd be thrilled.
- 10:28Speaker 5: I will give a message to Keezy. I know he's
- 10:31Speaker 5: in Japan. And Jase, who's over roading around Oz, I'll
- 10:34Speaker 5: give them a message. I'm sure they'll be able to contribute.
- 10:37Speaker 5: I personally don't have the money to get scrotox.
- 10:40Speaker 3: How much is it? What's that?
- 10:43Speaker 5: Oh, I'm just going off Botox prices because I'll be
- 10:45Speaker 5: getting that.
- 10:47Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Giga Little on Radio Hauraki. Let's see who wants to
- 10:57Speaker 2: hear the roar of the encore.
- 10:59Speaker 3: Cheers to Super Liquor.
- 11:01Speaker 5: That's right. We've got $ 10, 000 to give away across this
- 11:03Speaker 5: month split up into $ 250 shares there. For you to
- 11:08Speaker 5: choose whatever gig you want to go to, You can
- 11:11Speaker 5: win that cash when you hear the roar of the encore.
- 11:13Speaker 5: It's all thanks to our mates at Super Liquor. I'm
- 11:17Speaker 5: trying to think if I've got any other gigs. Oh,
- 11:18Speaker 5: Lily Allen's next week.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Is it?
- 11:20Speaker 5: For me. Yeah, really excited. It's come up very, very quickly.
- 11:23Speaker 5: And a couple of my best mates just got more tickets.
- 11:25Speaker 5: So it'll be a bit of a group of us going,
- 11:27Speaker 5: which I'm very excited about.
- 11:29Speaker 3: Yeah, man.
- 11:30Speaker 5: And other than that, I'm trying to think of what
- 11:31Speaker 5: other gigs. There's like a festival happening in November here
- 11:35Speaker 5: in Tamaki Makaurau. That I'm really excited for.
- 11:37Speaker 3: I had somebody get in touch with me and ask
- 11:39Speaker 3: if I could get him a double pass to Electric Ave.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Because it had sold out. And he was too late
- 11:47Speaker 3: trying to buy the tickets. And I was like, man,
- 11:49Speaker 3: I can't get myself tickets. No. To any of them. No.
- 11:52Speaker 5: I completely missed out on that one as well.
- 11:55Speaker 3: I think there's a perception that if you work in radio,
- 11:57Speaker 3: you get access to cool stuff.
- 12:00Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 12:00Speaker 5: Yeah. What do you mean?
- 12:02Speaker 3: Well, with tickets and stuff. Yeah, yeah. It's just not
- 12:04Speaker 3: the case.
- 12:05Speaker 1: No, no, no.
- 12:06Speaker 5: Not all the time anyway, unless we're directly supporting it.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Okay.
- 12:09Speaker 5: Let's go to the phone lines. G'day, Jessica, you mad bastard.
- 12:13Speaker 5: How's it going?
- 12:15Speaker 1: Oh, pretty good, guys. How are you?
- 12:17Speaker 5: Not too bad, thank you. What gig are you looking
- 12:20Speaker 5: to get to, mate? Oh, actually, first of all, first
- 12:22Speaker 5: of all, what do you do.
- 12:22Speaker 3: For a crust?
- 12:24Speaker 1: I'm a kitchen hand.
- 12:25Speaker 4: Oh, backbone.
- 12:26Speaker 5: Absolute backbone.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Absolutely. What does that actually entail day to day? I've
- 12:30Speaker 3: done a bit of kitchen handing stuff, but it's sort
- 12:32Speaker 3: of varied from being a dish pig.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I do a lot of food prep, like cutting a
- 12:37Speaker 1: heap of onions and they make me cry.
- 12:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:40Speaker 2: Aw.
- 12:41Speaker 3: They're bastards like that.
- 12:41Speaker 5: Sounds like a sad job. Yeah.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Is it true that there's a couple of cures for that?
- 12:46Speaker 3: One is really sharp knives and the other is chewing gum.
- 12:52Speaker 7: Oh, I haven't tried those.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Why don't I try them out? Yeah, give it a go.
- 12:55Speaker 3: Try a sharp knife.
- 12:59Speaker 5: I've tried the one where you stick out your tongue
- 13:00Speaker 5: because I've read somewhere that it's like fumes and so
- 13:03Speaker 5: they stick to your tongue rather than going in your eyeballs,
- 13:05Speaker 5: which are moist.
- 13:06Speaker 4: Really?
- 13:06Speaker 5: Like they go for moisture. But I don't know if
- 13:08Speaker 5: that's me.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Yeah, do that.
- 13:09Speaker 5: That could be total bullshit. They were just trying to
- 13:11Speaker 5: make me look like a dick. Jessica, what gig would
- 13:14Speaker 5: you want to go to, mate, if you won this cash? Well,
- 13:16Speaker 5: I'm going to electric apps, so I thought I'd put
- 13:19Speaker 5: it towards an outfit.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Oh, that's a smart.
- 13:21Speaker 5: Oh, very nice, mate. Well, I tell you what. Maybe
- 13:22Speaker 5: something from Super Liquor. Ah, great shout. Well, on that note, mate,
- 13:27Speaker 5: you won yourself $ 250. Oh, cheers, guys. No worries.
- 13:31Speaker 3: Have an absolute ripper there, won't you?
- 13:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:34Speaker 5: Good on you, mate. I'll pass you over to Big
- 13:36Speaker 5: Deli and Studio B, and they'll get you that cash.
- 13:39Speaker 5: Good on you, mate. Thanks.
- 13:40Speaker 4: That's all.
- 13:40Speaker 5: Thanks to our mates at Super Liquor. Cheers to gigs.
- 13:43Speaker 5: Cheers to Super Liquor. Cheers. That cuticle could go off
- 13:48Speaker 5: at any time, by the way, that roar of the encore,
- 13:50Speaker 5: so hang around for it. TV chat up next. Here's
- 13:52Speaker 5: Faith No More on the Hauraki Big Show.
- 13:55Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 13:59Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 14:01Speaker 5: That's Pink Floyd on the Hauraki Big Show. You've got
- 14:04Speaker 5: Pugs and Mogi here. It's time for a wee bit
- 14:06Speaker 5: of TV chat.
- 14:10Speaker 6: What's on the telly with Mike Minogue.
- 14:27Speaker 3: I watched half of a movie. And it's called Animals,
- 14:32Speaker 3: and it's on Netflix. Animals. Animals. And it's got Kerry Washington,
- 14:37Speaker 3: Ben Affleck, and Gillian, or Gillian Anderson. Like her, really
- 14:41Speaker 3: like her.
- 14:42Speaker 5: She's great.
- 14:43Speaker 3: She's magnificent. She's from X-Files and Sex Education. She's really
- 14:46Speaker 3: had a second coming, if I could call it that.
- 14:50Speaker 3: This is directed by Ben Affleck. And the synopsis is this.
- 14:55Speaker 3: A mayoral candidate and his wife take desperate steps to
- 14:59Speaker 3: raise their son's ransom. However, their extreme choice is expose
- 15:03Speaker 3: dark secrets that threaten to ruin them.
- 15:06Speaker 7: Ah.
- 15:07Speaker 3: A couple of shocking bastards there. Can I say it's
- 15:10Speaker 3: got some pretty ropey acting in it? Yes. His directing
- 15:14Speaker 3: choices mean there's a lot of long shots, a really
- 15:18Speaker 3: long tracking shot, which goes for about three or four minutes.
- 15:22Speaker 3: After their son's been kidnapped and they find out a
- 15:25Speaker 3: guy rings up and wants a ransom and so they're
- 15:27Speaker 3: talking to him on the phone. There's an interaction between
- 15:30Speaker 3: them and the guy on the phone and each other
- 15:32Speaker 3: as they try to come to terms with this. And
- 15:33Speaker 3: they've got a rocky relationship, Pugs, if I could put
- 15:36Speaker 3: it to you that way.
- 15:36Speaker 4: Right.
- 15:38Speaker 3: And so unfortunately the performances don't really work for the direction.
- 15:44Speaker 5: Right.
- 15:45Speaker 3: Hopefully it'll get better, but according to Rotten Tomatoes, it
- 15:48Speaker 3: won't with 33%.
- 15:51Speaker 4: Wow.
- 15:52Speaker 3: Apparently sitting at 33%. It's a shame because Ben Affleck,
- 15:54Speaker 3: I think, is a very good director. His debut, The Town.
- 15:57Speaker 5: Love The Town.
- 15:58Speaker 3: One of my favourites. It's brilliant. It's a great, great film.
- 16:00Speaker 3: He's done some really good stuff.
- 16:01Speaker 5: What did he, Argo as well? Didn't he win an
- 16:03Speaker 5: Oscar for that?
- 16:04Speaker 3: Oh, yes, he did. And this was meant to have
- 16:08Speaker 3: Matt Damon in the lead, but then Matt Damon booked
- 16:12Speaker 3: The Odyssey. Ah. And can I tell you, he made
- 16:15Speaker 3: the right decisions.
- 16:17Speaker 5: I can imagine he did.
- 16:18Speaker 3: He made the right decision. I will watch the rest
- 16:20Speaker 3: of this and let you know. Currently I'm sitting at
- 16:22Speaker 3: an unenthusiastic two and a half buzzies out of a
- 16:26Speaker 3: possible five. That is Animals and it is on Netflix.
- 16:30Speaker 5: I didn't know Ben Affleck was still, well, was working
- 16:34Speaker 5: at the moment, to be perfectly honest.
- 16:35Speaker 3: Oh, really?
- 16:36Speaker 5: Yeah, I haven't really heard or seen him in much
- 16:38Speaker 5: lately at all. I am on a mission at the moment, Mogi. Well,
- 16:42Speaker 5: every now and then. I go on a mission to
- 16:45Speaker 5: put my girlfriend onto a movie or show that I
- 16:48Speaker 5: have previously enjoyed. We've had some great successors. True Detective,
- 16:52Speaker 5: season one was one of those.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Just on that, there's a rumour that Nicolas Cage will
- 16:57Speaker 3: be in the next season.
- 16:58Speaker 5: Fantastic, I will be watching. Family Guy, not as much
- 17:02Speaker 5: of a success.
- 17:03Speaker 3: Right.
- 17:03Speaker 5: Another one that is proving to stall is the Lord
- 17:08Speaker 5: of the Rings trilogy. So we have watched successfully The
- 17:12Speaker 5: Fellowship of the Ring. I consider that to be my favourite.
- 17:16Speaker 5: My favourite used to be Return of the King. But
- 17:19Speaker 5: in more recent years, it's now Fellowship of the Ring.
- 17:21Speaker 5: I consider that to be a pretty much perfect fantasy film. Yes.
- 17:25Speaker 5: And I put her onto that. And you know what?
- 17:27Speaker 5: She watches things, and even if it's not something that
- 17:32Speaker 5: she immediately identifies with, she gets around it because she
- 17:35Speaker 5: appreciates the filmmaking, right?
- 17:36Speaker 3: Yeah. I think if I remember correctly, she hates fantasy.
- 17:40Speaker 5: She hates fantasy.
- 17:41Speaker 3: There you go.
- 17:41Speaker 5: So this was a stretch for her to do, but
- 17:44Speaker 5: we agreed to do it one day to start the
- 17:46Speaker 5: trilogy and see.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Where we went.
- 17:48Speaker 5: And we got halfway through The Two Towers.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Oh, yes.
- 17:51Speaker 5: Halfway through. And watching it back, it's a bit of
- 17:55Speaker 5: a slog comparatively.
- 17:57Speaker 4: Is it?
- 17:57Speaker 5: Like, I love those films.
- 17:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:00Speaker 5: And it's not a bad movie by any means, but
- 18:02Speaker 5: watching it in comparison to watching The Fellowship of the
- 18:05Speaker 5: Ring and then going to Return of the King, in
- 18:07Speaker 5: the middle it's like, whoa.
- 18:09Speaker 3: We're going to get to something. One of the greatest
- 18:12Speaker 3: scenes is in there. It can be the person you're
- 18:14Speaker 3: watching with, Pugs.
- 18:15Speaker 5: Maybe it's the pressure.
- 18:17Speaker 3: I would put the blame on your partner here, because
- 18:19Speaker 3: I've never heard anybody say that.
- 18:22Speaker 5: I think it has some of the greatest battle scenes
- 18:24Speaker 5: are in that one, but I just think we're halfway through,
- 18:27Speaker 5: and so it's right off the back of an amazing
- 18:30Speaker 5: Fellowship initial film.
- 18:31Speaker 3: Did she like that?
- 18:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:33Speaker 3: Okay. You've just got to get her through this and
- 18:34Speaker 3: get her to return to the camp. I 100% agree.
- 18:36Speaker 3: You've just got to do it.
- 18:36Speaker 5: Absolutely. So that was Fellowship of the Ring and Half
- 18:40Speaker 5: of the Two Towers. On the way after 5 o'clock,
- 18:44Speaker 5: we're going to be talking to Chopper. He's going to
- 18:46Speaker 5: be joining us in the studio. He's back 20 years
- 18:49Speaker 5: in the biz and he's doing another tour of Aotearoa.
- 18:52Speaker 5: So we'll chat to him about that. Plus more birthday
- 18:54Speaker 5: chat with old Mogi, some more of your birthday bagging maybe.
- 18:57Speaker 3: Who knows?
- 18:57Speaker 5: It's all about Woke Boy and the Truth.
- 19:02Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 19:05Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 19:07Speaker 5: Yeah, welcome back, you massive backbones. You are listening to
- 19:10Speaker 5: The Big Show. Hoity, Jay and Keezy are off on
- 19:13Speaker 5: holiday at the moment, but you've got old Mogi and
- 19:15Speaker 5: Pugsan holding down the fort. And, of course, it's always,
- 19:18Speaker 5: as always, brought to you by the good folks with
- 19:20Speaker 5: the beef, chicken, vegan and vegetarian options. Of course, I'm
- 19:23Speaker 5: talking about Reburger, who are redefining the norm. Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum.
- 19:28Speaker 5: And in case you missed it, it's Mogi's birthday.
- 19:31Speaker 2: It is.
- 19:32Speaker 5: How are you feeling?
- 19:33Speaker 3: Better than I did around about 4 o'clock this morning
- 19:36Speaker 3: when I got woken up by my Tui. It needs
- 19:38Speaker 3: a name actually, that Tui. After we've named the Hauraki mascot,
- 19:44Speaker 3: which has been announced tomorrow morning at 8am on The
- 19:47Speaker 3: Breakfast Show, maybe we can get another one. naming my Tui.
- 19:51Speaker 5: Just like a station-wide campaign, name your Tui.
- 19:54Speaker 3: I think so.
- 19:55Speaker 5: Send your text in on 3483. Well, you can get
- 19:57Speaker 5: those started now if you like. 3483 is the text number,
- 20:00Speaker 5: every text in the drawer for a $ 50 Reburg voucher.
- 20:04Speaker 5: Chopper's coming into the studio later on in the hour.
- 20:07Speaker 5: He's going back on tour around Aotearoa, so hang around
- 20:10Speaker 5: for that. And also, just like a little tidbit for
- 20:13Speaker 5: some other news we've got coming up, we might have
- 20:15Speaker 5: a big interview coming out tomorrow.
- 20:17Speaker 3: Is that tomorrow? Is that how good?
- 20:18Speaker 5: I think so.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Bloody good.
- 20:20Speaker 5: We should get it out ASAP. But in the meantime,
- 20:22Speaker 5: let's get back into the tunes. Here's some Silver Chair
- 20:26Speaker 5: on the Hauraki Big Show.
- 20:28Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 20:31Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 20:34Speaker 5: Who let Wokeboy in?
- 20:36Speaker 3: It's next week.
- 20:40Speaker 5: It's Wokeboy and the Truth on Radio Hauraki. Just getting
- 20:43Speaker 5: those stings out wherever I possibly can because this is
- 20:45Speaker 5: the only week I'll get to play them. You're here
- 20:47Speaker 5: with Pugs and Mogi. And Mogi, I've run into no roadblock,
- 20:52Speaker 5: but just something that I kind of picked up on
- 20:54Speaker 5: with my partner just the other day.
- 20:58Speaker 3: You're going to apologise to her?
- 21:00Speaker 5: No, no. It's titled Sad Bed.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Right.
- 21:02Speaker 5: I'm sort of using that to reflect my slight sadness.
- 21:06Speaker 3: It's like your real bed.
- 21:07Speaker 4: Sad?
- 21:09Speaker 3: Thanks, man.
- 21:11Speaker 5: Now, I think when you're in a relationship for long
- 21:14Speaker 5: enough and you're in love, conversations come up that, you know,
- 21:20Speaker 5: aren't obviously going to happen until later down the line,
- 21:23Speaker 5: like around next steps.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Sure.
- 21:26Speaker 5: Sure. So, for example, my partner and I, we know
- 21:28Speaker 5: we're not going to get married for a while. It's
- 21:30Speaker 5: still early days for us. We're only a couple of
- 21:31Speaker 5: years in. But the thing has come up about my
- 21:38Speaker 5: partner taking my name in marriage.
- 21:40Speaker 3: Right.
- 21:40Speaker 5: Down the track. Now, some would call that a pretty
- 21:43Speaker 5: dated thing, but I think generally, or at least the
- 21:45Speaker 5: traditional way, is the lady will often take the man's name.
- 21:51Speaker 3: Certainly.
- 21:52Speaker 5: In a traditional marriage like that. My last name being Pugsley.
- 21:58Speaker 4: Yep.
- 21:59Speaker 5: A little grin there from you. And that's where the
- 22:02Speaker 5: name Pugs comes from, just for anybody who doesn't know. Now,
- 22:04Speaker 5: my partner's name is Sawyer, her last name, Sawyer. And
- 22:10Speaker 5: she made a comment where someone was talking about us
- 22:15Speaker 5: getting married down the line. It was like a lighthearted,
- 22:17Speaker 5: jokey sort of thing. And she was like, oh, I'm
- 22:20Speaker 5: not going to take his last name. What, Pugsley? It's
- 22:25Speaker 5: got no star quality.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:29Speaker 5: Not like Sawyer. And I've got to be honest, man,
- 22:37Speaker 5: that hurt me a little bit.
- 22:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:39Speaker 5: That she would think that Pugsley has no star quality.
- 22:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:46Speaker 5: Like, it's not edgy. Like, it's not like Sawyer, you know?
- 22:49Speaker 3: No, it's not cool.
- 22:50Speaker 5: It's Pugsley.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, you take her point, though.
- 22:54Speaker 5: I mean, I'll take her point.
- 22:56Speaker 3: I'm surprised that she made it in so explicit a fashion.
- 23:01Speaker 3: I would have sort of hidden behind chat around, you know,
- 23:05Speaker 3: feminism and ownership and why should I take a man's
- 23:09Speaker 3: name and why should the kids be named after him
- 23:12Speaker 3: when they've come from... Yeah, all those sorts of things.
- 23:14Speaker 5: And she would be well within her rights to do that.
- 23:17Speaker 5: And I do think there was... that sort of added
- 23:20Speaker 5: in there.
- 23:21Speaker 6: Sure.
- 23:21Speaker 5: But I think she was.
- 23:22Speaker 3: Just as a sort of, oh, better chuck this in there,
- 23:24Speaker 3: but really I hate it.
- 23:25Speaker 5: Really it's more about her hating my name being Pugsley.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Yeah. I mean, is she wrong? I mean, Pugsley and Sawyer.
- 23:36Speaker 3: Sawyer's not bad, because I see you taking her name.
- 23:40Speaker 5: James Sawyer.
- 23:43Speaker 3: It's got a ring to it. It's got a ring
- 23:45Speaker 3: to it.
- 23:45Speaker 5: It sounds like an old school movie star, yes.
- 23:47Speaker 3: It's pretty good.
- 23:49Speaker 5: But I have been recognised throughout my life by my
- 23:53Speaker 5: last name because James on its own, yeah, it's pretty generic.
- 23:56Speaker 5: A lot of people call it James. So I've kind
- 23:59Speaker 5: of been nicknamed by my last name my entire life.
- 24:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:03Speaker 5: And I'll get to carry that on, no problem. That's
- 24:05Speaker 5: fine by me. I'll have the name regardless, but I just.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Jimmy Sawyer, though. It's got something about it. How hot's
- 24:12Speaker 3: Jimmy Sawyer?
- 24:13Speaker 5: I mean, yeah, it's pretty hot.
- 24:14Speaker 3: It's pretty hot. How hot's James Pugsley?
- 24:18Speaker 5: Now you're talking. But you had a bit of a
- 24:36Speaker 5: rough start this morning, didn't you, Mogi?
- 24:39Speaker 3: Oh, look, it wasn't ideal, you know. You have these ideas.
- 24:41Speaker 3: My daughter specifically said to me, can you sleep in
- 24:44Speaker 3: later tomorrow? Because she wanted to be able to come
- 24:46Speaker 3: in and bring me, what did she bring me, a balloon?
- 24:51Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 24:52Speaker 3: And a flower. There was some discussion about a card,
- 24:55Speaker 3: but as she said to me before, oh, I forgot
- 24:57Speaker 3: about that. So that was the idea. But unfortunately, at
- 25:00Speaker 3: 3.45 a.m., I was woken by the song of a
- 25:06Speaker 3: tui outside my window. And, you know, I've got a
- 25:10Speaker 3: long history with this tui. It's been nice through the
- 25:12Speaker 3: winter periods because I haven't had to listen to him.
- 25:14Speaker 3: But now it's back into spring, summer. He's going to
- 25:16Speaker 3: be banging on day after day after day. So it's
- 25:21Speaker 3: a tricky relationship because I love a tui. Yes. But
- 25:24Speaker 3: this bird, man, I'm over it. And so I sort
- 25:28Speaker 3: of thought we should come up with a name for
- 25:31Speaker 3: this bastard. Since it's going to be an ongoing topic
- 25:34Speaker 3: of conversation between now and what are we talking about,
- 25:37Speaker 3: April next year.
- 25:38Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, until the season changes. And we were
- 25:42Speaker 5: talking about potentially you finding it a mate so that
- 25:45Speaker 5: hopefully it would fly the coop and then leave you
- 25:48Speaker 5: the F alone. So who knows, if we get a
- 25:50Speaker 5: good enough name, we might attract a mate there. There's
- 25:52Speaker 5: a couple here for Ruby, as in Ruby Tooey.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Well, I like Ruby Tooey. Yeah, me too.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:01Speaker 5: So we have to kind of keep that in mind
- 26:02Speaker 5: with the names here. Someone else said 2 a.m., like
- 26:07Speaker 5: 2 a.m.
- 26:08Speaker 3: It's 2 a.m. It's a stretch. Yeah. It's a stretch.
- 26:12Speaker 5: It's 2 a.m. Someone said Jizz's dinner. So there's a
- 26:16Speaker 5: shout there. You can get Jizz over Jace's cat.
- 26:19Speaker 3: That would mean bringing that cat around where I've already
- 26:22Speaker 3: got Birdshit Chris at home, my cat.
- 26:25Speaker 5: Of course. Well, what about Birdshit Chris's dinner?
- 26:29Speaker 3: Seems like a long way to go. Yeah, okay.
- 26:31Speaker 5: It's a bit of a mouthful. Someone here said Prince
- 26:34Speaker 5: Tui Pekka.
- 26:35Speaker 3: It's not bad, but there's an element of racism to it.
- 26:37Speaker 3: I don't know why.
- 26:38Speaker 5: Do you reckon?
- 26:39Speaker 3: Well, no, I don't, but it feels like it's walking
- 26:41Speaker 3: a line.
- 26:42Speaker 5: Okay, fair enough. Someone, oh, this is my favourite one
- 26:46Speaker 5: from Robbie. Mogi's Tui Big White Scrotum on the Throat
- 26:50Speaker 5: Noisy Son of a Bee.
- 26:51Speaker 3: Tui, Tui.
- 26:54Speaker 5: That's really good stuff. That's really good stuff.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Mogi's Tui Big White Scrotum. Oh, no, hang on a minute.
- 27:00Speaker 3: The name is Big White Scrotum on the Throat, Noisy
- 27:02Speaker 3: Son of a Bee, too. Oh, okay.
- 27:04Speaker 5: I see what you're saying.
- 27:07Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 27:07Speaker 5: Well, that's the winner so far. Okay, so Big White
- 27:09Speaker 5: Scrotum on the Throat, Noisy Son of a Bee.
- 27:11Speaker 4: Yep.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Okay.
- 27:12Speaker 5: Maybe I'll get a sting for that going. But keep
- 27:14Speaker 5: them coming.
- 27:14Speaker 3: Yeah, no, keep them coming. That's not the end of.
- 27:16Speaker 3: That's just a short list. That's my favorite out of
- 27:18Speaker 3: that little batch. Okay.
- 27:19Speaker 5: Well, keep the name ideas coming.
- 27:21Speaker 3: That's another one that's come through. That's not bad.
- 27:23Speaker 5: That's a really good one. Keep them coming on 3483.
- 27:25Speaker 5: They're all in the draw for a $ 50 Reburger voucher.
- 27:28Speaker 5: After the break, Chopper is joining us here in the
- 27:31Speaker 5: Hauraki studio.
- 27:31Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 27:37Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 27:40Speaker 5: Yeah, welcome back, you absolute sickos. It is the Hauraki
- 27:42Speaker 5: Big Show. You've got Pugsan and Mogi here. Hori J
- 27:45Speaker 5: and Keezy off on holiday there. But as always, it's
- 27:48Speaker 5: brought to you by the good folks making the crave-worthy
- 27:50Speaker 5: street food freshly made at Reburger. Reburger, Reburger, Reburger, Reburger, Reburger, Reburger, Reburger.
- 28:03Speaker 5: Dinner plans for your birthday, old mogey?
- 28:06Speaker 3: Not really, man. I might be going home via a
- 28:10Speaker 3: pub on the way. I might insist that we have
- 28:13Speaker 3: a margarita, which is always a bad thing, or can
- 28:17Speaker 3: be a bad thing. And that's about it. Outside of that,
- 28:20Speaker 3: I've got absolutely no plans. Probably going to sleep.
- 28:24Speaker 5: I think you're banking a few plans for this weekend, though, right?
- 28:26Speaker 5: You've got a couple of things on the way?
- 28:28Speaker 3: I don't think I've got– oh, yeah, I do. I've
- 28:29Speaker 3: got something coming up on Thursday, which we'll talk about
- 28:32Speaker 3: on Thursday, and then heads up, I'm taking Friday off.
- 28:36Speaker 5: What?
- 28:36Speaker 3: Yeah, so I won't be here on Friday, but jeez,
- 28:40Speaker 3: I'll be giving it 100% between now and then.
- 28:42Speaker 5: Well, it'll be a bit of a teaser for Friday
- 28:44Speaker 5: over the next hour. We're going to dive into the
- 28:45Speaker 5: Big Show archives, because that's what I'll be doing on Friday,
- 28:47Speaker 5: but not because I'm phoning it in.
- 28:49Speaker 3: Not at all.
- 28:50Speaker 5: Because it's just me here on Friday. We are handpicking
- 28:54Speaker 5: iconic Big Show moments, and we've got another iconic segment
- 28:57Speaker 5: that we used to run here on the Big Show.
- 28:59Speaker 5: We're reviving it for one night only. But in the meantime,
- 29:02Speaker 5: let's kick off your six o'clock hour with some Kings
- 29:04Speaker 5: of Leon on the Radio Hauraki Big Show.
- 29:06Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 29:10Speaker 2: in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.
- 29:13Speaker 5: Rage Against the Machine on Woke Boy and the Truth.
- 29:16Speaker 5: It's the Hauraki Big Show with Pugs and Mogi. We
- 29:18Speaker 5: got our first best bit for the hour here. Now, obviously,
- 29:21Speaker 5: you have been home alone for the last maybe week
- 29:24Speaker 5: until your daughter got back the other day. It seems
- 29:28Speaker 5: to be a recurring theme in your marriage, Mogi, that
- 29:30Speaker 5: your wife leaves you.
- 29:31Speaker 3: She does, but she always comes crawling back.
- 29:33Speaker 5: Well, more walking.
- 29:35Speaker 3: More walking. Yeah.
- 29:37Speaker 5: But this is maybe one of the first times that
- 29:40Speaker 5: happened a couple of years ago on the big show.
- 29:41Speaker 3: So that thing was thrown together in a blender or something, eh?
- 29:56Speaker 4: So good, man.
- 29:57Speaker 3: It's really good. It's my favourite.
- 29:58Speaker 4: Sounds amazing.
- 29:59Speaker 3: Thanks, fellas.
- 29:59Speaker 4: The harmonies are extraordinary.
- 30:01Speaker 3: They are out of this world. Yeah. Yeah, things are
- 30:04Speaker 3: going pretty good. So last week we were on holiday
- 30:07Speaker 3: with the wife there down in Wellington. I don't know
- 30:10Speaker 3: if I told you, Keezy, but she's left me.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Yeah, temporarily for work for a couple of months.
- 30:15Speaker 3: And so this week was really our first week proper,
- 30:18Speaker 3: you know, me and the little one there having to
- 30:21Speaker 3: do things tough on our own.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Sure.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Sure. after being abandoned and that.
- 30:26Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:26Speaker 4: Did she clear out the accounts as well?
- 30:29Speaker 6: No, no, no.
- 30:29Speaker 4: Oh, you still got the money?
- 30:30Speaker 3: Well, that's still together, Jase. And so I guess you
- 30:34Speaker 3: could call it a troll separation, Keezy, but that's not
- 30:36Speaker 3: what One and a Half Mogi's about. No. And so
- 30:40Speaker 3: we organised, we finally got ourselves a wonderful nanny on board,
- 30:46Speaker 3: but our kid got sick when she was down in Wellington.
- 30:49Speaker 3: So I got my mum up. So mum's been... Marge.
- 30:52Speaker 3: Marge is up, yep. It's not easy getting her up here, man.
- 30:55Speaker 3: She's a big year in the lady. Yeah, yeah. Huge.
- 30:57Speaker 7: Do they have to, like, cut a hole in the
- 30:59Speaker 7: aeroplane roof?
- 31:03Speaker 3: What?
- 31:03Speaker 4: Do they have to cut a hole? She's so tall.
- 31:06Speaker 7: Does she just get into the sort of crash position
- 31:09Speaker 7: the whole time?
- 31:09Speaker 1: She just gets an exit row, Jason.
- 31:10Speaker 4: Oh, just lies in the corridor. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:12Speaker 3: No, that's not what I said. And so anyway, she
- 31:16Speaker 3: got crocked. She's been bloody sick, man. Bloody sick. And then,
- 31:20Speaker 3: of course, she sort of wakes up in the middle
- 31:22Speaker 3: of the night. And this is what I've realised is
- 31:25Speaker 3: that the entire four and a half years, going on
- 31:27Speaker 3: four and a half years that she's been alive, she's
- 31:29Speaker 3: never wanted to have anything to do with me whenever
- 31:31Speaker 3: she's been ill. So all the sort of, you know,
- 31:34Speaker 3: stuff that's happened during the night, if she's not feeling
- 31:36Speaker 3: well or whatever, if she's scared, whatever, she only ever calls, no,
- 31:40Speaker 3: I have. Which meant I just got to lay in bed,
- 31:43Speaker 3: you know, and sort of roll over and go back
- 31:44Speaker 3: to sleep. But now I sort of feel like, and
- 31:47Speaker 3: I wanted to get your advice on this, Jase, maybe
- 31:49Speaker 3: I should get up when she's screaming out?
- 31:51Speaker 4: Well, Look, the reality is you don't want to start creating.
- 31:55Speaker 3: You ever got any kids, Keezy?
- 31:56Speaker 4: Sorry.
- 31:56Speaker 3: Your opinion here has no value.
- 31:58Speaker 4: Thank you. You don't want to start creating bad habits there, Mogi.
- 32:02Speaker 4: Which is sick.
- 32:03Speaker 7: And what you'll find is they eventually scream themselves out.
- 32:09Speaker 7: It can be very annoying, but I've got earplugs. Just
- 32:12Speaker 7: put those in there. You don't hear anything. They get
- 32:15Speaker 7: exhausted from all the screaming, dehydrated, and they just nod
- 32:19Speaker 7: off again.
- 32:19Speaker 3: Yeah. I have got those noise-cancelling headphones. Yeah, nice. Which
- 32:22Speaker 3: I generally use during the day when she's a bit chatty.
- 32:25Speaker 4: Sure. Skull candies?
- 32:26Speaker 3: Not skull candies. Oh, okay. Missed a trick there.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Look, I know I've never had kids, right?
- 32:31Speaker 4: No.
- 32:31Speaker 3: So I have no idea. No idea.
- 32:32Speaker 1: But based on my very limited.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Knowledge, right?
- 32:35Speaker 4: It is quite limited, yeah.
- 32:36Speaker 3: Non-existent.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, totally. I just feel like if she
- 32:39Speaker 1: is sick, maybe you could help her with something. You
- 32:41Speaker 1: could provide her with maybe some medicine or something. Sometimes
- 32:44Speaker 1: you've got to let nature take its course. You know
- 32:45Speaker 1: what I mean?
- 32:46Speaker 3: What does that mean? You know, I can't. If I've
- 32:48Speaker 3: got a flu, there's nothing I can do to stop
- 32:50Speaker 3: the flu.
- 32:50Speaker 1: Well, there's things you can do.
- 32:51Speaker 3: Or that I can stop it in somebody else.
- 32:53Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 32:54Speaker 7: The reality is this. I mean, they've got to learn
- 32:56Speaker 7: to find their own way in life, Keezy.
- 32:58Speaker 4: She's four. And a half.
- 33:00Speaker 7: As a parent, you've got to let go and let
- 33:02Speaker 7: them spread their own wings. If you're going in there
- 33:04Speaker 7: every time they have a problem, you're not doing them
- 33:06Speaker 7: any favours, Keezy.
- 33:08Speaker 4: You were coddled. And look what happened.
- 33:10Speaker 3: Thank you. Thank you, Jase. Around at the Minogue house,
- 33:15Speaker 3: we're not making sookie-la-la's. We're in the business of making backbones.
- 33:19Speaker 4: Totally, man. All right?
- 33:22Speaker 3: Fair enough.
- 33:23Speaker 1: But if she had asthma, because when I was her age,
- 33:25Speaker 1: if I had asthma, I needed to go to the doctor.
- 33:27Speaker 3: Well, this is the thing. To get the nebulizer. Wouldn't
- 33:29Speaker 3: it have been easier for everybody if we just let
- 33:32Speaker 3: you go? Totally, man. It's like.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Not totally.
- 33:36Speaker 6: No.
- 33:37Speaker 4: And my kids are like that, Monkey.
- 33:39Speaker 7: I went over to Sydney with my daughter breaking a leg,
- 33:41Speaker 7: wrapped it up in a bandage and said, let's get
- 33:42Speaker 7: our asses out of here.
- 33:43Speaker 4: She was like, yeah, hardcore, dad, hardcore.
- 33:45Speaker 3: Where is she now?
- 33:46Speaker 1: Is she back at work?
- 33:47Speaker 4: Yeah, she's back at work. Next day, actually, Keezy.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Seems irresponsible.
- 33:51Speaker 5: How's the backbone parenting going now?
- 33:54Speaker 3: Is it sort of panning out? Because that was a
- 33:56Speaker 3: couple of years ago. It hasn't come back to bite
- 33:59Speaker 3: me at all. It's working a treat.
- 34:00Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 34:01Speaker 3: Yeah. Good on you, mate.
- 34:04Speaker 2: The Horaki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Horaki.
- 34:08Speaker 5: Temple of the Dog there on Wokeboy and the Truth.
- 34:12Speaker 4: No more lies, Wokeboy.
- 34:15Speaker 3: The truth is here. There you go. Sorry.
- 34:22Speaker 5: I'm trying to use them wherever I can.
- 34:23Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 34:24Speaker 5: Now, Mogi, it's actually the last day. Tomorrow morning at
- 34:27Speaker 5: about 8 o'clock, we're going to reveal the name of
- 34:29Speaker 5: our mascot.
- 34:30Speaker 3: Oh, man.
- 34:31Speaker 5: And if you're not familiar with the mascot and you
- 34:33Speaker 5: haven't been on any of the Hauraki socials lately, it
- 34:36Speaker 5: is a rather chody sort of cricket bat with two
- 34:40Speaker 5: very plump, freshly scrotoxed cricket balls down at the base there.
- 34:46Speaker 5: But we couldn't figure out a name for it, so
- 34:47Speaker 5: we wanted your ideas, and we've been giving you the
- 34:49Speaker 5: chance to get amongst that by texting mascot to 3483.
- 34:54Speaker 5: This is the last day that you're able to do that.
- 34:59Speaker 5: I know one of the favourites thrown around by the
- 35:01Speaker 5: breakfast team earlier today was Richard. Was Richard? You hate it.
- 35:08Speaker 3: What are we doing exactly? What is Richard? Richard the
- 35:11Speaker 3: what is it, though? Because normally you would say... Like
- 35:14Speaker 3: I know a Jase, he was a wombat, right?
- 35:16Speaker 5: Wally the wombat.
- 35:17Speaker 3: So he was Wally the wombat. So I was at
- 35:20Speaker 3: Richard the cricket bat.
- 35:22Speaker 5: Yeah, that doesn't really roll off the tongue, does it?
- 35:24Speaker 5: You see what I'm saying? I really liked Stumpy as
- 35:27Speaker 5: a name.
- 35:27Speaker 3: Stumpy is good. Stumpy is good.
- 35:29Speaker 5: Like Stumpy Bales or something like that, you know what
- 35:31Speaker 5: I mean? Yeah. But nobody's really kind of.
- 35:34Speaker 3: Ticked on to me. Batty is good as well.
- 35:35Speaker 5: I like Batty.
- 35:36Speaker 3: Batty is good.
- 35:37Speaker 5: But we want to hear yours, and today is the
- 35:39Speaker 5: final day to be able to do it. And also,
- 35:40Speaker 5: if you contribute one, Whether or not it gets picked,
- 35:43Speaker 5: you go on the draw for a double pass to
- 35:44Speaker 5: the sold-out ACC Export Ultra Party Zone at the Hot
- 35:47Speaker 5: Spring T20 Black Clash in association with GWM. Text MASCOT
- 35:53Speaker 5: to 3483, and you can get your contribution in there
- 35:57Speaker 5: before time runs out. And as I say, announced tomorrow
- 36:00Speaker 5: on the Hauraki Breakfast with Gerry and Mania at about
- 36:02Speaker 5: 8 o'clock.
- 36:03Speaker 3: 8am, bloody beauty.
- 36:05Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 36:08Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 36:11Speaker 5: That's the exponents on the Hauraki Big Show. You've got
- 36:13Speaker 5: Pugs and Mogi here. And it's time for another best
- 36:16Speaker 5: bit because, Mogi, it's your birthday, man. So we want
- 36:20Speaker 5: it to be as chill and cool for you as possible.
- 36:21Speaker 5: And if I can hop off the back of that
- 36:23Speaker 5: and have a chill one as well, then I'll take it.
- 36:26Speaker 4: Oh, right.
- 36:26Speaker 3: Is there any kind of relationship between my birthday and
- 36:30Speaker 3: this best bit?
- 36:32Speaker 5: No, actually nothing.
- 36:33Speaker 4: Oh!
- 36:34Speaker 5: In a way.
- 36:35Speaker 4: Yeah, great.
- 36:36Speaker 5: Because this was, I think, one of your specialties in
- 36:39Speaker 5: terms of on the show. I think you had a
- 36:41Speaker 5: lot to offer for this particular segment that used to
- 36:43Speaker 5: be a massive part of the show. But our boss
- 36:45Speaker 5: actually wanted us to guess it.
- 36:47Speaker 3: Shat chat?
- 36:48Speaker 5: Not shat chat. Pet chat. Oh. Remember pet chat?
- 36:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I do.
- 36:51Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because you are an animal lover, except
- 36:54Speaker 5: for two. He's at four o'clock in the morning. And
- 36:56Speaker 5: this one in particular, it was pet chat regarding donkeys.
- 37:00Speaker 4: Pet chat.
- 37:06Speaker 5: With Jason Mike.
- 37:14Speaker 7: We're very aware of the fact that a lot of
- 37:16Speaker 7: New Zealanders out there love their pets and often can't
- 37:18Speaker 7: afford veterinary advice. So we offer our expertise, we being Mogi,
- 37:24Speaker 7: myself and Keezy, and maybe try and help you out
- 37:28Speaker 7: with any pet issues you may have.
- 37:30Speaker 1: Yeah, so you can text through on 3483, automatically in
- 37:32Speaker 1: the drawer for a $ 50 night and day voucher, or
- 37:34Speaker 1: you can message us on the Instagram. We've got a
- 37:37Speaker 1: little question area on the story there for you. Here's
- 37:39Speaker 1: a good one from TJ.
- 37:41Speaker 4: Hey, guys.
- 37:42Speaker 1: I shower once a day and I'm a human. How
- 37:45Speaker 1: many times a day should my dog shower?
- 37:48Speaker 3: Cheers.
- 37:49Speaker 1: And once again, that's from TJ on the Insta.
- 37:52Speaker 4: Oh, I don't know about you, Mogi, with your little dog.
- 37:55Speaker 3: Your tinker.
- 37:56Speaker 7: Your tinker toy there. But I never wash my dog.
- 37:59Speaker 7: As soon as it rains, she's outside.
- 38:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:03Speaker 1: So just never?
- 38:04Speaker 4: Never, just Bob's your uncle.
- 38:05Speaker 5: Right.
- 38:06Speaker 4: And then she gets a bit stinky, so I never
- 38:08Speaker 4: let her back inside.
- 38:09Speaker 3: Just for the record. I get mine bathed.
- 38:11Speaker 4: Oh, you do?
- 38:12Speaker 3: Yeah, in the kitchen sink.
- 38:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:15Speaker 3: Or if that's, sometimes they get a bit dirty. Takes
- 38:19Speaker 3: quite a long time to clean a dog properly. Oh, yeah.
- 38:22Speaker 3: But 30 minutes fast cycle in the dishwasher.
- 38:25Speaker 7: Oh yeah that'll work well I never thought of that
- 38:27Speaker 7: my dog's a bit big for that though to be
- 38:29Speaker 7: honest with you yeah but you've got.
- 38:30Speaker 3: To leave the door open's the problem yeah because you've
- 38:33Speaker 3: got to give them the option to get out do you?
- 38:35Speaker 3: you can't just close them in there they hate it
- 38:37Speaker 3: oh really? yeah when I was a younger man I
- 38:39Speaker 3: made that mistake never again.
- 38:42Speaker 4: I've done that with my cat oh sure yeah.
- 38:46Speaker 1: So good fellas this is from another person on the
- 38:49Speaker 1: Instagram hey guys I just had my cat cremated my
- 38:52Speaker 1: other cat keeps trying to find.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Him what should I do?
- 38:58Speaker 1: That's a tough one, isn't it?
- 38:59Speaker 3: Strictly one, yeah.
- 39:00Speaker 1: So he had two cats, Jase.
- 39:01Speaker 3: You're looking for you.
- 39:02Speaker 1: He had two cats. One of them died. Yeah, well,
- 39:03Speaker 1: I'm just trying to figure out.
- 39:05Speaker 7: I mean, yeah, that's quite, because I had two cats
- 39:07Speaker 7: and one of them died, but the other one couldn't
- 39:08Speaker 7: give two shits.
- 39:09Speaker 3: Right, right.
- 39:10Speaker 4: You know what I mean? It's like, yeah, more food
- 39:11Speaker 4: for me, man.
- 39:12Speaker 3: Yeah, true.
- 39:13Speaker 7: Either that or just tip the contents of the cremation there,
- 39:16Speaker 7: the ashes, into its little litter or whatever.
- 39:19Speaker 4: Then it can just rub itself against it.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Or it does pose in that.
- 39:22Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 39:23Speaker 7: Right.
- 39:23Speaker 3: That's a nice touch. Ah, well, there you go.
- 39:26Speaker 1: G'day, fellas.
- 39:27Speaker 3: Hey.
- 39:28Speaker 1: My flatmate's cap keeps putting up. AFL on when I
- 39:31Speaker 1: want to watch the footy. What do I do? So
- 39:34Speaker 1: he's obviously wanting to watch rugby.
- 39:36Speaker 4: I actually watched a lot of AFL while I was
- 39:38Speaker 4: over in Australia.
- 39:38Speaker 3: Oh, you did?
- 39:39Speaker 4: Terrible game. Have you seen the shorts they wear?
- 39:42Speaker 3: Oh, that's the only good thing about them.
- 39:43Speaker 4: Yeah, they're tiny, man.
- 39:44Speaker 3: I agree.
- 39:44Speaker 4: They really snuggle in there.
- 39:46Speaker 3: Yeah, totally. So.
- 39:48Speaker 1: What do you do to stop a cat from changing
- 39:50Speaker 1: the channel?
- 39:50Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Hang on, this is pet chat.
- 39:53Speaker 5: Oh, right.
- 39:54Speaker 1: You meant to be giving advice.
- 39:57Speaker 3: You know, if you put gloves on a cat, they
- 40:00Speaker 3: can't work the remote. Right. You know those little saran
- 40:05Speaker 3: wrap things that you put over food, like bowls of food,
- 40:08Speaker 3: and you put it in the fridge? You put that
- 40:09Speaker 3: over a cat.
- 40:09Speaker 5: It sort of does this weird little flicky dance thing.
- 40:12Speaker 4: Yeah, nice.
- 40:13Speaker 3: Really preoccupies them with it.
- 40:14Speaker 1: Oh, so they're just playing with that. I was just
- 40:16Speaker 1: going to say move the remote or hide it.
- 40:17Speaker 5: No.
- 40:19Speaker 1: Not any can ever find it, though, Keezy. Yeah, no,
- 40:21Speaker 1: that's a good point. One last one here, fellas, just
- 40:24Speaker 1: to wrap things up from Willie. My pony keeps robbing
- 40:28Speaker 1: grocery stores at gunpoint asking for fresh carrots.
- 40:31Speaker 3: How do I stop? How does he stop?
- 40:34Speaker 4: The local dairy, did you say?
- 40:37Speaker 1: My pony keeps robbing grocery stores at gunpoint asking for
- 40:41Speaker 1: fresh carrots. How do I stop it, I guess?
- 40:43Speaker 3: Yeah, it.
- 40:45Speaker 1: I don't even know ponies can operate guns.
- 40:47Speaker 3: I've got hooves. Well, that's the thing. Let's put it
- 40:50Speaker 3: this way, Keezy. You're working down at your local 7-Eleven there,
- 40:54Speaker 3: your night... Day. A pony walks in brandishing an AK-47.
- 40:59Speaker 3: Are you going to be the one that's calling its bluff? Well, no. Exactly.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Totally.
- 41:05Speaker 7: And in that situation, just hand over the carrots. I'm
- 41:07Speaker 7: not giving my life for a carrot.
- 41:09Speaker 3: Right. It's got a point.
- 41:12Speaker 5: I made a mistake there.
- 41:13Speaker 3: It wasn't a donkey. It was a pony, for God's sake.
- 41:15Speaker 3: The difference is night and day. Night and day.
- 41:19Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 41:23Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hodaki.
- 41:34Speaker 3: Mogey yeah mate hope you have.
- 41:43Speaker 5: The best birthday ever man.
- 41:44Speaker 8: This has got a lot of sarcasm in it or
- 41:47Speaker 8: something something in that tone I didn't like pugs thanks
- 41:51Speaker 8: mate it's been a goodie I've sort of got a
- 41:53Speaker 8: few different levels to my birthday I'm going away at
- 41:56Speaker 8: different times so My wife's not here today, so it's
- 41:59Speaker 8: not quite the birthday it would otherwise have been.
- 42:02Speaker 3: But I'm going to get a couple of drinks in
- 42:03Speaker 3: me tonight, I think. And then, yeah, a relatively early one.
- 42:09Speaker 5: So did you just say you're going to get a
- 42:10Speaker 5: couple of drinks and then have a relatively early one?
- 42:12Speaker 3: And then have an early one, yeah. So not too late,
- 42:15Speaker 3: not a late one by any stretch, but just enough
- 42:16Speaker 3: to make me sleep through this goddamn tui.
- 42:19Speaker 5: You poor bastard. Well, I hope it is a bloody joy, truly.
- 42:23Speaker 5: And I appreciate you coming in and doing Woke Boy
- 42:25Speaker 5: and the Truth even on your birthday.
- 42:27Speaker 3: Yeah, man.
- 42:28Speaker 5: It has been a real treat. After this, I'm going
- 42:31Speaker 5: back to Horty J's house. I think I've got one
- 42:33Speaker 5: more night.
- 42:33Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 42:34Speaker 5: House sitting there. But I'm feeling pretty good. I reckon
- 42:37Speaker 5: I'm up for another episode of East of Eden.
- 42:39Speaker 3: Good on you, man.
- 42:39Speaker 5: So I'll probably run one of those.
- 42:40Speaker 3: Yeah, there you go.
- 42:41Speaker 5: I have to go for a run too.
- 42:42Speaker 3: Fudge.
- 42:44Speaker 5: Oh, you know, like running after work. It's like, when
- 42:47Speaker 5: do I eat dinner? Am I going to be a
- 42:48Speaker 5: slob because I've eaten dinner and then I've gone for
- 42:50Speaker 5: a run or do I wait and be really hungry?
- 42:52Speaker 5: So I have to figure that out. And that's just
