Transcript
- 0:00Get laced up! Let's go! It's time for Banter
- 0:04with the Boys! Yo, yo, yo, welcome back to Banter
- 0:15with the Boys Fast Laps. We have the Jetta recap,
- 0:19the Miami GP preview. Uh, Joe. Smeltsy. You're
- 0:24wearing a McLaren hat this week. Why would I
- 0:27be, you know? What happened this last weekend?
- 0:30I don't know. Oh, Oscar won. I think your hat's
- 0:34off kilter. It's off kilter. They've won before,
- 0:36but you've chosen not to wear the McLaren hat.
- 0:39Why this week? Why is this week special? Every
- 0:41time they've won, I think I've won a McLaren
- 0:43hat. Oh, last week I didn't, but none of us wore
- 0:44hats last week. You know what? He was wearing
- 0:46the McLaren. I've been thrown off because it
- 0:47hasn't been the bright orange one. It hasn't
- 0:49been the orange. Yeah, it's always been like
- 0:50the gray one, or I had the American one here
- 0:52last weekend. That's true. Okay. It's because
- 0:54last week I called him out for not wearing an
- 0:56orange hat. Right, right. And now I'm going on
- 0:58that. That's what I mean. None of us wore hats
- 1:00last week. Yeah, that's right. If you were lucky
- 1:03enough to see last week's episode, don't worry,
- 1:05it's still up on YouTube, so you can go back
- 1:08and watch last week's episode if you so choose,
- 1:10or listen to it on Spotify, either way. But you
- 1:13will notice that for the first time, I think,
- 1:15ever in Banter with the Boys history, actually,
- 1:17which is going on two years now, FYI. Two plus
- 1:21years, actually. None of us wore a hat, and it
- 1:23was... I don't know. Did we like that? I'm not
- 1:25sure. I think it looked good on camera. We look
- 1:28professional. We look great. We look professional.
- 1:29Honestly, we look better than we do now. You
- 1:31had a great haircut. I had, it was a fresh haircut.
- 1:34Fresh. Funky fresh, some might say. Anyway. Mike's
- 1:38here. Yeah, Mike's here. I've been here. Hello.
- 1:40Yep. I'm wearing my hat this time. Yeah, why
- 1:43are you wearing an Aston Martin hat? Well, because
- 1:45he's missing the Haas sweatshirt at the moment,
- 1:47so he can't match the Haas hat with the Haas
- 1:49sweatshirt. That's true. Also, you know. Which
- 1:50is unfortunate. So if anybody sees a Haas sweatshirt
- 1:52out here, send it to Mike. Yeah, just mail it.
- 1:56p .o box i don't have a p .o box actually just
- 1:59send it to my my address this this specific jeep
- 2:06is mine uh anyway mike uh thanks for being here
- 2:11as always uh anything pressing nah i don't think
- 2:17so kev let's just head right into the jetta gp
- 2:20oh kev thanks for being here kevin there he is
- 2:23Oh, also Smelty's here, too, for whatever that's
- 2:25worth. Smelty's here! Our host! Our fearless
- 2:27leader. We've done this before. This is not our
- 2:29first time. And, of course, to start the Jetta
- 2:43GP recap, we have the pre -race stuff. Quality
- 2:49practice. uh says here yada yada that's been
- 2:52in our notes forever we're gonna start saying
- 2:53that that's how it's gonna work uh fp1 ghastly
- 2:56is the fastest yuki crash uh i did not see fps
- 3:00was yuki's crash pretty bad i don't even think
- 3:02i saw a replay it wasn't good if i remember correctly
- 3:04it was right at the end of the session um so
- 3:06like it didn't affect too much except obviously
- 3:08his car um but yeah it was not not great and
- 3:12fortunately kind of mimicked you know it was
- 3:15it was worse than the race itself i know that
- 3:17much like they actually had to like fix some
- 3:19some stuff on the car but he did it but yeah
- 3:22ghastly like right on i think like right in the
- 3:24last few minutes he was yeah very very fast in
- 3:27fp1 it was very very interesting to see i do
- 3:29remember that because i think kev actually texted
- 3:32the group chat and was like pierre yeah like
- 3:35yes uh fp3 bordoletto missing the session I think
- 3:40he had a fuel, like, not a fuel leak, but a leak
- 3:41in his car that just kept him out. So he went
- 3:44without a practice session. No water, huh? Something
- 3:47like that. Let's see. Quali. Lando crashes in
- 3:51Q3. I think, I feel like I did see that. Max
- 3:54does a race pit stop to make his second Quali
- 3:57run in time. That was actually kind of wild to
- 4:00me. I don't, I feel like I haven't seen. a race
- 4:04pit stop in inequality uh to get it done but
- 4:07the lap he made the first lap he made was decent
- 4:09and that was on two feet like two runs of fuel
- 4:12yeah that's yeah yeah it had to be that was that
- 4:16was me i was like watching i was like they commented
- 4:19on him taking a pit stop and i was like he doesn't
- 4:21take a pit stop right he's only got on the fuel
- 4:23for one lap and then he stops takes a pit stop
- 4:26drives off i'm like he had enough fuel for two
- 4:28laps He just put up like the second fastest lap.
- 4:32What do you mean? Getting after it. It's like
- 4:34you're Max Verstappen. At least put a time on
- 4:36the board so we are somewhere. Yep. And then
- 4:39hope that we have enough time for the second
- 4:41one. Right. Let's see. So, Oscar, get in the
- 4:46dub. he got it of the gp turn one oscar getting
- 4:50the win again having insane pace this weekend
- 4:52uh some battling between him and max here and
- 4:55there but wasn't as good as some other battles
- 4:57that we'll get into i mean honestly namely right
- 5:00at the start and then never again i feel like
- 5:02they i feel like they battled at least one other
- 5:04time i don't think it would have been i think
- 5:07it was that turn and then the crash happened
- 5:10and then on restart max kept them so bunched
- 5:13restart max like yeah you should talk i mean
- 5:16it seems like you want to say something about
- 5:18it i just i don't so i just don't know the rules
- 5:21well enough for the restart which is crazy because
- 5:23considering i've been watching f1 now for the
- 5:24sixth year but i the the restart Oh, man, that's
- 5:29just... I just hate how they do it. I hate how
- 5:31they do it, how the front driver just goes and
- 5:33everybody just reacts off of that. Right. You
- 5:35know what I mean? And the way Max did it, I hate
- 5:37it, but I also... love it in the sense of what
- 5:41a great thought by max like you know they're
- 5:44warming their tires up just kind of lollygagging
- 5:46into the turn and as soon as he comes out of
- 5:48turn just turns it on i'm like ah see this kind
- 5:51of messed up like he was really late this time
- 5:53around like to the point where like russell had
- 5:55to like go alongside so he did rear end yeah
- 5:58and i think like i saw that and i was like you're
- 6:00not supposed to do that but he was obviously
- 6:02trying not to hit someone so for sure i don't
- 6:05know i'm glad that you know nothing came of that
- 6:08but yeah but yeah he really played held him up
- 6:10yeah so again i hate it i don't think that should
- 6:13be to the point to the point where i think it
- 6:16was also really awesome if that's what he planned
- 6:18on because it worked to perfection yeah who's
- 6:20right behind piastre at that point it was like
- 6:22one of the ferraris i think right i thought it
- 6:24was george was it george no it was george i just
- 6:26remember talking lando it would have been like
- 6:28i think no no it was a p i'm talking about piastre
- 6:31like they held him up to the point where he got
- 6:33a really good start oscar was cut out a little
- 6:35bit and had to fight at the end of that straight
- 6:38against russell that's what i mean like you're
- 6:41you know you're at the mercy of reacting to that
- 6:44to the to max and like good luck reacting to
- 6:47possibly the best driver of an automobile right
- 6:50now in the world yep so uh thought that was messed
- 6:54up but anyway oscar still getting the win though
- 6:56uh norris finishing fourth as predicted by the
- 7:01way i did put lando forth specifically but we
- 7:05don't keep track of that but Thank God. I think
- 7:07this is right. Oh, God, that would have been
- 7:10another two points. Seriously. This could be
- 7:14what we're going to see the rest of the season,
- 7:16to be honest with you. Now, I don't know if Max
- 7:18can hang out all the time in the top three. I
- 7:21think there's still going to be races that he's
- 7:23going to struggle. But I think you're going to
- 7:24see George in there and LeClaire in there, no
- 7:26problem. So I think Landon's going to have some
- 7:29work to do the rest of the season, to be honest
- 7:31with you. And again, goes along me getting on
- 7:33the soapbox saying. You know, if Lando does find
- 7:37pace, this will be a problem at some point. But
- 7:39if he's not going to be as fast as Oscar, like
- 7:41maybe they're, you know, Oscar to win WDC. Yeah,
- 7:45it was. I mean, he definitely needs to. do more
- 7:48work than he's doing because Piastri is proving
- 7:51to be the better driver at the moment just flatly
- 7:54I like that Norris realizes that he's messing
- 7:57up like he was crushed and he was like I remember
- 7:59hearing the message after he crashed in qualifying
- 8:01he was like so stupid I'm so stupid you know
- 8:05like he did yeah that's right but then also the
- 8:07pit lane thing later in the race yes yes Dude,
- 8:12locking them up, coming into the pit lane, I
- 8:15mean, that's the little things, right? When you've
- 8:17got to be a WDC, you have to do the little things
- 8:19right. That's the little thing you did not do
- 8:21correct. I thought you were talking about him
- 8:24crossing the pit exit line. The whole pit. The
- 8:27whole pit was bad. Yeah, the whole thing was
- 8:29bad. Pit exit was bad. Yeah, but he's lucky he
- 8:32didn't get a penalty. He's very lucky. But, like,
- 8:35again, like, that's, you know. that's a factor
- 8:38in between finishing p1 and p4 if you don't quite
- 8:41have the same pace you got to have those little
- 8:43things right you know um darn i forgot what i
- 8:46was saying right before then but that's okay
- 8:48um i just don't you know norris needs to he's
- 8:53to oh figure it out yeah yeah i mean oscar is
- 8:57much more aggressive than lando and i know we've
- 8:59talked about it before but At that beginning,
- 9:02the camera, the POV from Oscar battling Max heading
- 9:06into that first turn. I mean, yes, Max. How do
- 9:10you guys feel about that first turn? Did Oscar
- 9:11push Max off the track? Or was Max trying to
- 9:15force something that just wasn't there? I just
- 9:17don't think it was there. Yeah. Like, I was honestly
- 9:20like you, you look at it. I'm going to ask the
- 9:21same question in a little bit. If, if, if Max
- 9:24was on that exact same line, but without Oscar,
- 9:28there's no way he would have made the corner.
- 9:29Yep. Like either he would have had to go into
- 9:32the runoff like he did, or he would have tried
- 9:34to make the corner and he would have been doing
- 9:36spins because he just never would have found
- 9:39the traction. And I think that that's just too
- 9:41aggressive drivers. Like, nah, son, I'm one.
- 9:44Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Oscar's like, no, this is,
- 9:47this is my corner. so for that i'm truly excited
- 9:50to see if max can keep keep the red bull car
- 9:53in contention we could we could get a lot of
- 9:55oscar and max battling unless oscar's going to
- 9:58continue to drive away from everybody else so
- 10:00i have i have this noted for since we're talking
- 10:03about it i'll say now i have it noted for red
- 10:05bulls but uh He got the five second. I think
- 10:08it sounds like you're in agreement, too, that
- 10:09he probably deserved the penalty. He left the
- 10:12track and he stayed in front. It was a fact.
- 10:14Did not give the position back. Correct. Normally,
- 10:17that would be a 10 second penalty, not a five
- 10:19second one. Reason being, they gave a five second
- 10:22is because it was turn one lap one. So they are
- 10:25more lenient at that point. Do you think this
- 10:28is more of like an FIA F1 question in general?
- 10:31Do you think they should be doing that or do
- 10:33you think they should penalize him? And this
- 10:35is don't even think about. this as being max
- 10:37getting penalty yeah just in general you're saying
- 10:39in general do you think they should keep it at
- 10:41five seconds in turn one specifically yeah do
- 10:44you think it should have been 10 or do you think
- 10:46because it is turn one knowing how crazy off
- 10:49the line turn one can be is that okay or should
- 10:52they have stuck with 10 seconds and kept it fair
- 10:55across the race for me i'm 100 okay with it it
- 10:58totally makes sense pure chaos uh carnage potentially
- 11:01so it's just like Might as well. You know what
- 11:03I mean? But just for that turn, though. You know
- 11:06what I mean? Because, I mean, what Max did was
- 11:08fairly blatant, you know? And then you chose
- 11:11not to give it back. So it's just, I don't know.
- 11:16I'm with him. I think I'm cool. I think it's
- 11:19important that you. You have that like rationale
- 11:22of knowing this is the first corner of the first
- 11:25lap of the race. Stuff is going to happen here.
- 11:27If you enforce too many rules and make it too
- 11:29strict and punish the drivers too much for taking
- 11:31those risks, there's not going to take the risks.
- 11:34They won't take them and now your race is dull.
- 11:36Exactly. Now you run into your races are now
- 11:38more boring. Your race starts are more boring
- 11:40because your drivers don't want to take risks.
- 11:42I'm hopping on Mike's bandwagon. And the FIA
- 11:44doesn't want to do that. They want the race to
- 11:46be interesting, right? And so they need to punish
- 11:48drivers for breaking the rules. but they should
- 11:50give them some leniency. Yeah. No, I like that.
- 11:53I like that too. I think in general, I agree
- 11:55with you guys. If I can play devil's advocate,
- 11:57not that I agree with this per se, uh, play that
- 12:00more. That would be fun. I will. I actually,
- 12:02I like playing it. You got to think about helping
- 12:03though. But anyway, of course not. What are you
- 12:06kidding? Uh, you got to, right? So like, you
- 12:08got to think of the rest of your race. What'd
- 12:10you say? He's like, you don't need to, right?
- 12:13Unbelievable. Sorry. That was rude. Just rip
- 12:15my heart out to play devil's advocate. You have
- 12:17to think of the rest of your race. Like this.
- 12:19This is turn one, lap one, right? And knowing
- 12:22how it can be full of carnage, you want to make
- 12:25sure you're not hitting into someone else, you
- 12:29know, off the turn. You want to remember, like,
- 12:31hey, this is just a moment in time, right? Obviously,
- 12:34a good driver is going to want to go for a gap,
- 12:36obviously. But, like, you also got to have that
- 12:39mindset of, like, if I crash into the side of
- 12:43him, my whole race is done. If I let him go,
- 12:45I might get him later, maybe. The maybe part.
- 12:48right i was just about to say to play devil's
- 12:50advocate on that rubbish because of the maybe
- 12:53part right like this f1 is so precise and fine
- 12:56like you might not ever get that overtaking totally
- 12:58and in this scenario you know in this scenario
- 13:01this is oscar's best chance right yeah but but
- 13:04yeah who is it that made the infamous quote That
- 13:09if you don't go for a gap, then you're not a
- 13:11racing driver. Was it Lightning McQueen? I'm
- 13:14just kidding. No, no, no. This is like an F1
- 13:16driver said this. I have no idea. God, who the
- 13:19heck was it? I can hear the sound bite in my
- 13:20head. Yeah, I can too. And I usually know this,
- 13:23but it's Senna. Oh, yeah. I didn't want to say
- 13:26it without, you know, I'm being wrong. Say it
- 13:27again. What's the quote? If you no longer go
- 13:30for a gap that exists, you are no longer a racing
- 13:33driver. Boom. If you no longer go for a gap that
- 13:35exists, you are no longer. Okay. Yeah, yeah.
- 13:37Sorry. I'm a little slow. i will so i do have
- 13:40one thing i wanted to play devil's advocate on
- 13:42where i did feel a little bad for max and that's
- 13:44the fact that the accident that happened that
- 13:47caused that yellow flag happened basically right
- 13:50at turn one right and so max really didn't even
- 13:53have a chance to give the position back because
- 13:56you're not allowed to overtake under a yellow
- 13:59or under a safety car right They had them. But
- 14:03he knew he went off the track. He didn't even
- 14:05try to slow down before that. They didn't have
- 14:07an opportunity. They didn't have an opportunity
- 14:10to look through the cameras and to say, okay,
- 14:12we think that Oscar was ahead at the apex. We
- 14:15think we're better if you just give the position
- 14:17back and then go from there. Because by the time
- 14:20they had time to look things over, they were
- 14:22already under a safety car. You're saying the
- 14:23team didn't have time to look at it and tell
- 14:25them that. Now, I don't think the team necessarily
- 14:27would have. That is tough because it was only
- 14:29like five seconds later and we're getting a yellow.
- 14:31It was an immediate yellow as soon as they crashed,
- 14:34right? And I don't even think they finished the
- 14:37lap before we got to the safety car. I don't
- 14:41even think we got into sector three before the
- 14:43safety car had come out. So that's not a lot
- 14:45of time for the team to be like, all right, what
- 14:47happened? Give the lap back. And I guess along
- 14:51the lines of if we want drivers to be aggressive,
- 14:54then you're in the thought process like, no,
- 14:56I'm right. Right. I'm not going to give that
- 14:59back because why would I do that? Right. So like
- 15:02that's I think that's an issue is like because
- 15:04that's a tough one. That safety car came out
- 15:06right after that incident. It didn't really give
- 15:08them the opportunity. Sure. And at that point,
- 15:10I'm starting to smell what you're stepping in.
- 15:12I don't like it, but I don't I don't particularly
- 15:14subscribe to it either. I think Oscar earned
- 15:17that corner. But sure. Fair enough. I do think
- 15:21Max should have at least had the opportunity
- 15:22to give. the position away not that he would
- 15:25have he should have been given the opportunity
- 15:27and if he decides not to then take your five
- 15:30seconds brother like that's on you yeah but i
- 15:33don't think he had the opportunity to do it onto
- 15:35the safety car fair enough did what do you got
- 15:38joe i i do think there was enough time safety
- 15:41car did not come out immediately i was watching
- 15:43race i was like there's a yellow flag here i
- 15:46was like why aren't isn't the safety car out
- 15:48i think i need to get boxing gloves man that'd
- 15:52be fun Because you're right, cars shouldn't pass
- 15:55each other in safety car. They're not allowed
- 15:57to. So he's forced to give a penalty, but I think
- 16:02they would realize that and then null the penalty.
- 16:05Or they would keep it after. I think there was
- 16:08enough time, and he made his point about not
- 16:11giving the place back. So the issue, though,
- 16:14is that they don't want to wait until after the
- 16:17safety car is resolved because then it's a race
- 16:19restart, right? The penalty was given at safety
- 16:23car restart. Yes, you're right. But I think if
- 16:27there was intention of giving the place back,
- 16:31I don't think they would have a problem. I think
- 16:33they would hold the penalty until he did it,
- 16:36is what I'm trying to say. But I think because
- 16:38Max are showing no intention and they were listening
- 16:40to the radio and they were making no intention
- 16:42of giving the place back. Maybe there's a disconnect
- 16:46because like I see like like they like what are
- 16:49you saying? Like you want them to to give back
- 16:52after the safety car? I'm saying that they might
- 16:59hold the penalty to allow Max to give the place
- 17:02back right after the safety car. OK, but the
- 17:05issue, though, is that then that's that's a safety
- 17:07car restart. Right. And this is Max's chance
- 17:10to a safety car. Restart is his chance to re
- 17:13overtake after that restart happens. Right now,
- 17:17if you take that away from him, that's an opportunity
- 17:18to overtake away from him. And then that's not
- 17:20fair to him because then he has to do the restart
- 17:23and then he has to give the position back. It's
- 17:25not fair to him, but he shouldn't have done it
- 17:27in the first place. i mean yes but like it's
- 17:30not a good not a good argument i think the real
- 17:32answer is that they should just say okay if you
- 17:35want to give somebody the position you can do
- 17:37it under a yellow or you can do it under a safety
- 17:39yes but like but like teams need to make that
- 17:42call not yes not stewards email race director
- 17:44can make that call yeah so that maybe that allows
- 17:48maybe they ask race director and race directors
- 17:50like yes do it now do it at this turn or something
- 17:53yes um but there is no mention of all this aside
- 17:55i actually i still think that there was enough
- 17:57time for max give the place back because safety
- 17:59car did not come out until they were almost on
- 18:03the back straight i think so they were in sector
- 18:05three that's still like in i would say sector
- 18:08two close to sector three um and yellow car the
- 18:10yellow flag was out on whole track i think at
- 18:12that point too yeah so even even then it would
- 18:14have been you know a little sus but yeah um he
- 18:19had no intention of giving it i i agree with
- 18:21the no intention yeah i agree giving it 100 yeah
- 18:24um yeah it was i mean like I don't know. How
- 18:29much of it, though, was really like, we're already
- 18:31under a yellow flag. We're about to go under
- 18:33a safety car. Just hold it and hope. Hold it
- 18:35and hope they don't give us a penalty. Which
- 18:37could be the case. Again, if you believe that
- 18:40you were in the right and you were there first.
- 18:42I mean, yeah, it's possible that they're like,
- 18:44yeah, that's also incredibly possible. They're
- 18:47like, no, we think we deserve that spot, so we're
- 18:49going to hold it. And they just ate the five
- 18:51second, knowing that Max is Max, and then he
- 18:53can probably fight it. True. This scenario, he
- 18:56wasn't able to, but usually he can. But Max continued
- 18:59on fighting the car the rest of the race, if
- 19:01you will, finishing P2. Not so bad. Might as
- 19:04well get into the Red Bulls. We've talked a lot
- 19:07about Max already. Yuki. Let's talk about Yuki.
- 19:12Yuki, Yuki. I actually want to hear your guys'
- 19:16opinions first because I have much opinions.
- 19:18And I like Yuki and Gasly both. It's classified
- 19:22as a racing incident, I believe. So how do you
- 19:24feel about that? Tough. He ruined two people's
- 19:27races, his own and someone else's. It is what
- 19:30it is, honestly. It was a racing incident, but
- 19:32it was a bad move. So for me, it was like, I
- 19:36mean, Pierre was next to him the whole time.
- 19:38You know what I mean? There's no way he didn't
- 19:40see him. However, like going into the turn, either
- 19:44Pierre could have pulled a max, right? And just
- 19:47cut the corner and saved his car and save the
- 19:49race, give the position back and just go back
- 19:51to racing. Right. But I just, I don't know. He
- 19:55was right that they were both hitting the turn
- 19:57at the same time. It's tough for me to put any
- 20:00blame on it. What it looked like was that Yuki
- 20:02was slightly off the racing line. That was like
- 20:05turn two, right? Turn two, turn three? Yep, correct.
- 20:08And it was like Yuki was slightly off the line
- 20:10while Pierre was on the line. And on the line,
- 20:12you come out from the corner. And Yuki was already
- 20:15outside on effectively the outside line. And
- 20:18so Pierre turned into Yuki. Yuki was in that
- 20:22space. Right. And so like they weren't giving
- 20:24each other the space that the two of them needed.
- 20:26But like when like I was watching it with my
- 20:28family, my brother and my sister in law were
- 20:30like, oh, no, that's totally on Pierre. Oh, it
- 20:33was 100 percent on Pierre. Like we watched multiple
- 20:35different camera angles and both of them were
- 20:37like, it's on Pierre. And I told them, I was
- 20:39like, no, this is a racing incident. This just
- 20:40looks like a racing incident. It just happens.
- 20:42Yeah. And you barely touch the car and it sends
- 20:45it flying. You know what I mean? So I don't really
- 20:47think it's on either driver. I don't think it's
- 20:50necessarily Yuki's fault. I think maybe he could
- 20:52have done things differently. But again, you
- 20:54don't go for the gap. Then you're not a racing
- 20:55driver. Like for sure. And there's that. Right.
- 20:58But then that's also an instance back on Joe's
- 21:00instance where it's like it's lap one. There's
- 21:03still a whole race to go. like somebody back
- 21:05out but if nobody does stuff's gonna happen yeah
- 21:09you know what i mean so i don't know man i'm
- 21:11i'm watching it right now and like he's yuki
- 21:14frustrates me on it to me here is going for the
- 21:17curb like he's going for the on the line and
- 21:20yuki's like going into him a bit like it looks
- 21:23like it's on it just looks like a late turn by
- 21:25yuki to me but again those cars don't don't like
- 21:29turning well it's like they're coming like yuki's
- 21:31coming out of turn one and pierre is coming out
- 21:32of turn two like the corners are like right next
- 21:34to each other and so it's like Like, they're
- 21:37turning into each other, and Yuki was already
- 21:40off the line. He basically has to be off the
- 21:42line. It's a race start. Yeah, I guess Pierre
- 21:44was turning into him, but that's because if he
- 21:46didn't turn into him, he's going off track. He's
- 21:48going off track. But that's what I'm saying.
- 21:49That's why this is a racing incident. It's not
- 21:51Yuki's fault. But that's why if there were to
- 21:53put blame on someone, it would be Yuki, though,
- 21:55right? I don't necessarily—no, it's not on Yuki.
- 21:57It's not on Yuki. It's not on Pierre. It's not
- 21:59either of them. I'm saying if there were. to
- 22:01be put i agree i agree that in general i'm playing
- 22:04devil's advocate maybe this is a bad i just i
- 22:05just wish ghastly would have like you know taken
- 22:08the max approach like you know what just save
- 22:11the car and then give the place back and just
- 22:14go back racing you know i mean pierre was ahead
- 22:16of the apex there's no position to take back
- 22:17or to give back like Pierre just would have ran
- 22:20off. He would have gotten pushed off then, essentially.
- 22:23He would have gone off. He would have taken a
- 22:24track limits. And if he's not careful about how
- 22:29he comes back, maybe unsafe re -entering. Re
- 22:31-entering, sure. But, like, I think he'd be fine.
- 22:33And he would just get track limits and move on
- 22:35with the race. Fair enough. It's turn one. That's
- 22:39how it goes. You're right. I mean, the line that
- 22:41Yuki took. I mean, at the start of the line that
- 22:43Yuki took, he's pretty safe. And he's like. up
- 22:47against the wall on the of the ins he's up against
- 22:49the inside wall yeah and the gas never leaves
- 22:52the turn they're both right there gas can't go
- 22:55anywhere else i such a weird i don't i don't
- 22:58see a world where i can blame either driver and
- 23:00neither driver blamed each other for it neither
- 23:02neither one was upset it's just like screw ah
- 23:05f it happens a bunch of things but yeah So, yeah,
- 23:10I can't blame – I can't say that Yuki had a bad
- 23:12weekend. It happens. It's racing incidents. It's
- 23:15the struggle of starting in the middle of the
- 23:16pack. For sure. So we mentioned Yuki. We mentioned
- 23:18Gasly. Jack Dewan finishing P17 for Alpine since
- 23:21we're talking about Alpine at the moment. That
- 23:25was a poopy. You just got to be better than that,
- 23:28man. For me, you should be eyeballing Liam Lawson.
- 23:33For me, you have to be, again, at the very least,
- 23:37I think you should be badgering Isaac even. You
- 23:39should be beating both V -Carbs. If not, Haas
- 23:44too. I mean, Haas is no slouch right now. You
- 23:46know, like P13 and 14, but they still have some
- 23:49pace. You need to be beating Haas if you're Alpine
- 23:52right now. I think at the very minimum. Haas
- 23:55and Williams are pretty sound in the midfield.
- 23:58Williams is pretty decent. Annoyingly. You need
- 24:02to be fighting at least V -Carb and Aston, right?
- 24:05Those two at least for sure. You got to be beating
- 24:07those two. 100%. And he couldn't even beat Stroll.
- 24:10Yeah. Let's see. Let's go back up to Mercedes
- 24:14here. We kind of jumped around a little bit.
- 24:15But that's okay. It's flowing. I almost called
- 24:20him Russell George. George Russell finishing
- 24:22P5, Antonelli P6. Antonelli was another one that
- 24:26flew off that first turn, too, at the beginning
- 24:28of the race and then gave the position back right
- 24:31away. I guess I got nothing to say, honestly,
- 24:35because that's kind of what we're expecting out
- 24:37of them at the moment. They need to be battling
- 24:39the Ferraris. They were all day. I think that's
- 24:44fine. You know, George. is going to be able to
- 24:46push for more podiums this season, I'm convinced.
- 24:49Yep. I think he'll get at least one race win.
- 24:51Some people think I'm wrong. That's fine. At
- 24:53the moment, it does look like it's going to be
- 24:56wrong because Oscar's just running away with
- 24:58everything. I think he'll get a win. But it's
- 25:01going to be Silverstone. Yeah, it's going to
- 25:02be Silverstone. That'd be sick. Antonelli as
- 25:05well. Is he rookie of the year right now? 100%.
- 25:11I mean, he's got to be, right? Who else? I mean,
- 25:14the only other argument would be Hajar. But right
- 25:18now, Antonelli Hajar is arguably doing it in
- 25:21a worse car. And Behrman as well. All three of
- 25:25them are driving phenomenally. That's a good
- 25:27point. All three of them are driving incredibly.
- 25:29Antony has the Mercedes, but he's close to George.
- 25:34I'd say Antony is exceeding his expectations
- 25:37as a rookie right now. I mean, those three rookies,
- 25:42though, are exceeding because Antonelli's close
- 25:44to George, Behrman's beating Ocon, and Hajar
- 25:49is beating Lawson. So their expectation is, I
- 25:53would say, just under their teammates, and they're
- 25:55doing well. Yeah, I agree. Which reminds me,
- 25:58Kev, Topps Chrome F1 is going to be crazy this
- 26:01year with all these rookies in it. I'm saving
- 26:03it up. We're going to rip some, and we'll tape
- 26:05it for you F1 listeners. But it doesn't drop
- 26:07until frickin' November. So it's going to be
- 26:10a minute. But yeah, I know. But there's going
- 26:13to be tons of rookies and that's going to be
- 26:15fun. Anyway, sidebar. Let's see. Ferrari. I mean,
- 26:19LeClaire's getting on the podium. He did it.
- 26:21What else do you want right now? I don't think
- 26:24LeClaire's going to beat Oscar. You both said
- 26:26it. Oh, you said LeClaire was on the podium this
- 26:29weekend too? Yeah, because we had very similar
- 26:31moments. I trust him and George way too much.
- 26:34I was going to save this question for later,
- 26:37but I'll just ask now. Just ask now. who's your
- 26:40inside guy like how did you guys do that how
- 26:44did you guys predict charles on the podium i
- 26:47told you i didn't i told you i didn't think lando
- 26:50was gonna could make podium so for me if lando's
- 26:53not making podium didn't make podium because
- 26:54of a like a freak like a crash right he caused
- 26:57the crash It's just, I just don't, like, how
- 27:01do you do it? It's luck. Pure luck. I won't score
- 27:04any points this week. Honestly, the Lando thing,
- 27:08like, Lando had so much pace. Had Lando gotten
- 27:10an actually good lap in in qualifying, could
- 27:13have completely ruined that. Yeah. But, like,
- 27:15he didn't. It happens. And I was very confident
- 27:18that, you know, Charles has just been getting
- 27:21better and better. This car is getting slightly
- 27:23better and better. Three points this week. I
- 27:25didn't know that. Yeah, so I was pretty darn
- 27:27confident. I'm devastated. This is crazy. I'm
- 27:30devastated. I was like, yeah, Oscar, I'm going
- 27:33to get two poisons. And I saw you, and I was
- 27:35like, oh, no. Oh, no. Yeah, that was a, I mean,
- 27:38hats off. I'm not going to, I mean, we did it
- 27:40last week. I can't do it again. But hats off
- 27:42to you guys for guessing Charles and getting
- 27:45him in your podium, like, on a whim more than,
- 27:47like, we're looking at Ferrari, Hamilton battling
- 27:51Norris. kept norris away from leclerc at the
- 27:55end of the race more than likely 100 if that
- 27:57didn't happen and do you i don't getting more
- 28:00comfortable in the yes he is i'm happy to see
- 28:02that too battling the mercedes as well like it
- 28:05was a fun race i think norris was making bad
- 28:07bad overtakes like he was he was doing it right
- 28:10before the straight and then letting hamilton
- 28:12take him but hamilton was taking him easy but
- 28:15again it was oh yes yeah yeah lando and hamilton
- 28:17just exchanging so much time like the The commentators
- 28:22are saying it is all about the timing. Like,
- 28:23oh, see, Lando was trying to let him go by and
- 28:26he didn't. Lewis didn't take it because he was
- 28:28waiting for the next opportunity. That's to get
- 28:30DRS and go. And that's that's veteran status.
- 28:33Exactly. No, that's it. And that's the little
- 28:35things for Lando. The little things that a WDC
- 28:37driver needs to be doing. Yes. Do you think Hamilton
- 28:40knew that he was protecting Leclerc in that moment?
- 28:43Or do you think he was like, no, I'm fighting
- 28:44this? No, he was fighting. Yeah. Yeah. He was
- 28:47fighting for sure. This is Lewis. I don't think
- 28:48he was looking that far ahead. No, I know. You
- 28:51know, I feel like that's not... him not looking
- 28:54far enough ahead. I think it's a different mindset.
- 28:56He's got the champion mindset. He's like, I'm
- 28:58fighting for my position. This is my position.
- 29:01You want my position? You got to work for it.
- 29:03I like that. Like, it wasn't him being like,
- 29:05oh, I need to protect my teammate because I'm
- 29:07not going to catch my teammate. It's, I'm not
- 29:09just going to give you this freaking position.
- 29:11Yeah. Like, no, I mean, we've seen him do it.
- 29:14Right. But, but he knew he could fight for it.
- 29:16Yes. He knew he had the pace. The middle top
- 29:1810 position fighting. He was fighting for a place.
- 29:20Yeah. Yeah. That's great. I like that. It was
- 29:23so much fun. Let's see. Let's see. Haas. Got
- 29:27anything? Are we on Haas? What? Yeah. We jumped
- 29:30around a lot. We jumped around a little bit,
- 29:31but it was flowing, so it's fine. Actually, I'll
- 29:33bring that up anyway. That's post -show. Sure.
- 29:37We have post -production meetings, guys, just
- 29:39so you know. Just so we know. We do? I've been
- 29:41missing those. My mom picks me up right away.
- 29:47So if you have suggestions for our show, please
- 29:50leave a comment other than stop recording, because
- 29:53that's not going to happen. But Mike, Haas. Yeah.
- 29:57All in all, it could have been worse. It could
- 30:01have been better. But straight up, we talked
- 30:05about this on Discord earlier in the week. Is
- 30:07that how you guys converse? Very frequently,
- 30:09yes. Well, that's because you game, right? Yeah.
- 30:11Together? Okay, that makes sense. We game. We
- 30:13do a little time. We dabble. I think so. Yeah,
- 30:17we were talking about it, and I was saying that
- 30:19Haas still has that underbody problem, and their
- 30:23biggest concern is... uh high speed corners right
- 30:26and jetta is nothing if not high speed corners
- 30:29and basically nothing i love jet on the game
- 30:32it's just it's so much yeah it's just so fast
- 30:34so many high speed corners and so like that hoss
- 30:37car must have been like driving a boat So, like,
- 30:40the fact that they were still able to keep it
- 30:41that close to the points, I'm like, yeah, whatever,
- 30:44guys. We take our beats where we got them. Williams
- 30:47got ahead of us. Life moves on. We'll get them
- 30:49next weekend. I mean, they got a bit ahead of
- 30:52them. Just a little bit. Speaking of Williams,
- 30:54we got a new Williams fan in the house. Just
- 30:56ordered a hat. I've decided because Mike is such
- 30:59a Haas fan that I am going to be pitting Williams
- 31:02against him because it's for the fun. I really
- 31:04like Haas, too. I've always liked Haas, but I
- 31:07really like Williams this season. two he likes
- 31:09being disappointed what i need to be a kick salver
- 31:11fan so i can just be a fan of both of the bottom
- 31:13team that's so funny i mean i think kick salver
- 31:18hat once i bet i could find it on sale that's
- 31:20so funny i mean i do i saw some earlier i'll
- 31:22say there was there was some pretty cheap i'm
- 31:24not i'm not buying the $130 jacket that you found
- 31:27i think i found one for like 30 bucks 30 bucks
- 31:29i mean it's like a that's like a wheel like a
- 31:31wheeled like shaft form that's good for an f1
- 31:33maybe some f1 hat that's cheap Yeah. $30. I wonder
- 31:39why. Anyway, Williams. Yeah, Williams. I mean,
- 31:42great showing from Sainz and Albon. Sainz finally
- 31:45getting into the points and getting decent points,
- 31:48too. He did start. You had to be a weight off
- 31:49your shoulders. Oh, it was nice. I'm like, yeah.
- 31:51This is where a Bowery should be. I'm like, finally,
- 31:54we're seeing him kind of make some. But I'm also
- 31:56like, this probably won't last a lot, like for
- 31:58a long time. Like, Williams is still hurting
- 32:01a bit. But we saw a really good showing from
- 32:04Albon. Climbed into points. It was great to see.
- 32:06Sainz did. lose two positions but he was fighting
- 32:08some he was fighting some people behind him he
- 32:10was fighting both Hamilton someone in a Red Bull
- 32:13and Norris who we didn't mention had a really
- 32:16good recovery drive but we're talking about Williams
- 32:18right now um yeah it's uh signs mentioned at
- 32:22the start of the weekend that the car felt a
- 32:23lot better than it has so i think things are
- 32:27looking at least a little bit up um overall incredibly
- 32:30clean race from both drivers very very happy
- 32:32to see them kind of get up there and now i got
- 32:34a little rivalry going on between kind of all
- 32:36three of us right because alpine's also once
- 32:38they get their stuff together should be in that
- 32:40same they should be in that with williams and
- 32:42haas and evasin got their crap together i think
- 32:45we're all like arguably v -car i mean really
- 32:48really the second pack of of teams other than
- 32:52kick solver can really all be battling each other
- 32:55pretty much like the best of the rest is truly
- 32:57a fight right now I mean, and Kick right now
- 33:00is obviously in there, but just leave me alone.
- 33:03I think right now our division is like our top
- 33:06four that we always have. We've had for years,
- 33:08right? And then we've got the two in the middle
- 33:10right now who are really duking it out, which
- 33:11is Haas and Williams. And then you've got the
- 33:13other three who are just barely scraping by for
- 33:15points trying to make things happen. But if Alpine
- 33:17gets their stuff together, I think they can be
- 33:19in that group of two. It could change. But right
- 33:21now, 100%, no way. I think you're right. They're
- 33:24just kind of like that group of two. Haas has
- 33:25been almost in a league of its own a little bit,
- 33:28right? in the middle like williams i only think
- 33:30just joined the party kind of like aston last
- 33:32and like v and v yeah exactly and v carb has
- 33:34been like kind of up and down right now because
- 33:37they're losing drivers and they're gaining drivers
- 33:39and you know so i feel like the loss in factor
- 33:42indeed um but i'm really happy to see williams
- 33:46doing doing better it's a team that i feel like
- 33:48i didn't love when i joined f1 but i've grown
- 33:50to really to like so i think they become like
- 33:54my underdog They are very historic. They are
- 33:57historic. All right. Racing Bulls. You put disappointment,
- 34:01Joe. I put disappointment. I mean, I'm cool with
- 34:03Isaac finishing 10. I am. Lawson 12 actually
- 34:07isn't horrible. Disappointment was specifically
- 34:08for Lawson, I think. And it's just because my
- 34:11expectation. Does he need to be beating Isaac
- 34:12for you? He needs to be beating Isaac. Okay.
- 34:14Fair enough. He has had more time in the car
- 34:16than Isaac. Which is correct. Granted, not this
- 34:19season, but overall. In general, yeah. In general.
- 34:22For sure. He has had more time. I would agree
- 34:23with that. So it's disappointing that he is.
- 34:25not beating Isaac. Um, you're right. P 12, not
- 34:28horrible. It's better at the end of the race.
- 34:31So it's better than P 17, which he got last week.
- 34:34I'm pretty sure it is better. So hopefully we'll
- 34:36see a little bit more improvement. I'm, I don't
- 34:39know, man. I just like, I don't know if I want
- 34:41him, want to see him do well. I just, I don't
- 34:44want to be disappointed in him anymore, man.
- 34:46Like, I know, I know you wanted somebody new
- 34:48to be disappointed in. Yep. You got something
- 34:49to say. What do you want to say to me? Better
- 34:51driver was on top. who isaac isaac right now
- 34:55yeah i mean yeah absolutely like but it shouldn't
- 34:58be that way right like lawson's had more time
- 35:01why not if i said maybe isaac has more skill
- 35:05Yeah, but then it begs the question, and I go
- 35:08into an existential crisis that I went to last
- 35:11week of, like, why did I root for this kid for
- 35:13so long if he's going to do this? Joe, that sounds
- 35:15like a you problem. That's a me problem, 100%.
- 35:18The next Nick DeVries. You got to go save him.
- 35:20Oh, God, don't even get me started. You remember
- 35:22how much you liked him, too? I liked him. It
- 35:25was very different for Nick, because I liked
- 35:27Nick until he got into the car, and I was like,
- 35:29oh, no. Oh, no. You're going to have to go home
- 35:32and sage your house now. Look at the massacre,
- 35:33my boy. Keep Logan and DeVries and these guys
- 35:38off your porch. Wait. Do you think I like Williams
- 35:42because Logan isn't in the car anymore? Because
- 35:45they have a competent second driver? Probably.
- 35:47Because who was before Logan? Was it Gotifi?
- 35:51Yeah, it was Gotifi. Yeah, it was Latifi. Latifi.
- 35:54Yeah. Maybe that's why I'm starting to like Williams,
- 35:57because they have two competent drivers now.
- 35:59Maybe. Maybe. We're going to go with that. Interesting.
- 36:03Let's see. Kick Sauber. Fresh newly appointed
- 36:06kick solver fan as of about 10 minutes ago. Congrats.
- 36:10I mean, at least. Thanks. At least Bortoletto.
- 36:13Oh, thanks. At least Bortoletto didn't take out
- 36:17Alonzo. That was so funny. Oh, yeah. That was
- 36:20crazy, actually. Like, he really almost. Dude,
- 36:23I have no clue what he was doing. He's just like,
- 36:25oh, green card. Yeah, seriously. Almost took
- 36:30out his manager. Yeah, that would be awkward.
- 36:33That would be awkward. The bro's not getting
- 36:35a raise. And Alonzo's calm. He wasn't, like,
- 36:38that angry. He was kind of, like, chuckling,
- 36:40but it was, like, nervous chuckling. It was nervous,
- 36:42yeah. Like, whoa, I still almost got taken out,
- 36:43but he's the kid, so, you know. He did the classic,
- 36:47blah, so close. That was perfect. That was perfect.
- 36:53Oh, my God. I also want to know, because, you
- 36:55know, one of your new favorite teams, both of
- 36:57your favorite teams, same amount of points. Both
- 37:00have six. That's crazy. You like them low. Low
- 37:04on the grid. Aston, Alonzo finishing P11. Stroll
- 37:10P16. What is this? Stroll holds up Oscar. Oh,
- 37:14yeah. Oscar was complaining. Stroll was holding
- 37:16him up on the blue flag. I couldn't see a lot
- 37:19of... I didn't see it either. I didn't see a
- 37:20lot of other notes, but he was like, yeah, Oscar
- 37:23was tiffed about it. Yeah. Yeah, I think he mentioned
- 37:25something. He actually called Stroll out inside
- 37:28the post -race interviews, and he was not PR
- 37:33about it. He was like, yeah, Stroll's just...
- 37:36Doesn't know how to do what he's doing. Like,
- 37:38basically, I'm very much approximating what he
- 37:41said. Well, somebody said, it might not have
- 37:43been last season, might have been the season
- 37:44before, about how Stroll can't drive. It was
- 37:46really funny, and I can't remember who it was.
- 37:48Actually, I think it was Alonzo before he got
- 37:50to Aston. Because Stroll's been racing for a
- 37:53minute now. Yes. He really has, actually. Stroll
- 37:55is the most seasoned, or he is the most tenured
- 37:59Canadian driver in history. That's wild to think
- 38:03about. Can you think about that? Oh, he mentioned
- 38:04how Stroll was doing like a go -kart race the
- 38:07way he was driving. That's so funny. Also, I'd
- 38:11be miffed if we didn't note that Lance Stroll
- 38:14just picked up a new all -time record this weekend.
- 38:17That's right. Let's go. He has the most Q1 exits
- 38:20ever. No way. He has the most Q1 exits. Q1 or
- 38:24Q3 exits? Oh, Q3. Sorry, Q3 exits. He has the
- 38:26most Q3 exits out of any driver. Wow. Ever. Yikes.
- 38:32So again, well, you know, his longevity got in
- 38:35that one. Yeah. That's what happened. Well, because
- 38:37he's been so notoriously not great. Not good.
- 38:43And just been in the car. Any other driver would
- 38:46have been gone years ago. So notoriously nepotized.
- 38:49Yeah. Yep. He was asked about that. Is that even
- 38:52a word? Yeah, and he was asked. Oh, and he has
- 38:54the funniest comment ever. Yeah, I'm going to
- 38:56find it really quick. So he was asked about having
- 38:59this new, oh man, it sucks to call it a record.
- 39:03He responds, you put the McLaren drivers in the
- 39:07Sauber for 10 years and they will have the most
- 39:09Q1 exits too. Okay, well, you're in an Aston.
- 39:13Yeah, exactly. So, Lance, that doesn't make sense,
- 39:16buddy. He's like, I'm wasted potential, man.
- 39:20That's our goal. It's like, that's your team.
- 39:22That's our goal. I might have to be a Lance Stroll
- 39:24fan. Specifically. I thought, man, at the start
- 39:27of the season, I was like, hey, there's a light
- 39:29at the end of the Lance Stroll tunnel, and it
- 39:31was just another train. Somebody's got to do
- 39:34it, right? If I'm Alpine and kick Sauber already,
- 39:37I might just Lance specifically. That's my driver.
- 39:40I can't even say that. Anyway, comms. Did you
- 39:44guys have any good comms? I really didn't. I
- 39:47had one. Yeah, I had that. His full comm was,
- 39:51wow, he moved under braking. Whoa, that was close.
- 39:54Whoa, so close. Check the car. Because I think
- 39:57he did tap a little bit. The other ones I had,
- 40:00Hadjar was commenting about his water system
- 40:04was being weird and it was flowing into his helmet.
- 40:07And one of the commentators said, Isaac Hadjar
- 40:09getting waterboarded around the circuit. That
- 40:13was awesome. Max, after getting notified for
- 40:17his penalty, well, that's lovely. Explicit of
- 40:21the F word. And how his engineer is like, no
- 40:23comment, no comment. And then the only other
- 40:27one I have is from Albon. Uh, his, his engineer
- 40:31was just thinking about the gap to the car head
- 40:33with overheating. And Alvin was like, guys, you're
- 40:34not seeing the car right behind me as well. Or
- 40:36are you not thinking about that? So the waterboard
- 40:39is probably my first spicy dude. Yeah. Alvin
- 40:41is spicy this season, but I'm also loving the
- 40:44commentators. Like I've never noticed, like they
- 40:46can be so funny. They've really been on point
- 40:49this year. So far it was just some, some one
- 40:51-liners like that. Like really, really funny.
- 40:53Isaac getting waterboarded around the track.
- 40:55I must've missed it. I bet like, I bet it's almost
- 40:57amplified. So I almost want to watch. the practice
- 41:00sessions because i bet it's amplified a little
- 41:01more because they all they can do is like talk
- 41:03right right i'm sure i'm honestly so oh man i
- 41:07don't want our i don't want our episode to get
- 41:09like banned by f1 but like my my sister wow that
- 41:15would have sounded really bad my wife not my
- 41:17sister not the same not the same person just
- 41:20to clear that up i watch f1 not nascar um Something's
- 41:30not happening. So anyway, my wife's brother.
- 41:34Darn, where was I going? Oh, F1 TV. He's really
- 41:36disappointed with F1 TV. Really? He's got F1
- 41:39TV Premium, the 131 or whatever. Okay. So he
- 41:42can watch all the different POVs and stuff. Which
- 41:44is cool. During the race, it just all crashed
- 41:46on him. I couldn't really. Yeah. So I think it's
- 41:50the first time. So one out of five or whatever.
- 41:52Right. We have any issues with the price you're
- 41:55paying, though. I watched on ESPN. I did, too.
- 41:56I could not. I was watching on my phone. I couldn't
- 41:59get it streaming to TV. So I moved to ESPN as
- 42:01well. I'm actually surprised ESPN does a decent
- 42:03job with like commercials and stuff. No, no,
- 42:07no, no. Yeah. All they do is take Sky Sports
- 42:09is broadcast and just put it on there. They'll
- 42:11do like ESPN will do like a little beginning
- 42:13thing with some lady that's just like. hi this
- 42:16is f1 on espn brought to you by mercedes and
- 42:19then it goes and then you know she says the same
- 42:21thing at the end this has been f1 on espn brought
- 42:24to you by mercedes and then it's you know it
- 42:26goes back to regular espn f1 f1 tv we just get
- 42:29done done done yeah they still do the intro on
- 42:34espn oh sick dude it's no it's full like tyler
- 42:37when he was on the show before when we did f1
- 42:40the first season uh when i told him it was on
- 42:42uh espn he's like uh -uh i was like yeah he's
- 42:46like dang i might not need f1 yeah seriously
- 42:48so i like i'd like f1 tv for the practice sessions
- 42:52right because those are all on there live right
- 42:53yes yeah so i would like it for they do that
- 42:56and they also have f not that i watch it but
- 42:57they also have like f1 academy and f2 and all
- 42:59that fun really yeah dang okay so that part of
- 43:02it but you used to have porsche cup i think as
- 43:04well i don't think what do you get out of premium
- 43:05okay and then we got they get they get so you're
- 43:08technically supposed to get i think you get a
- 43:10higher quality you get more people that or you
- 43:12get more devices people that you can watch it
- 43:15from um i do watch the same thing on like four
- 43:18tvs all the time yeah and also you get more i
- 43:20think views like different like strategic like
- 43:22views of like the race and stuff like that it's
- 43:25uh did you get premium no no you got the mid
- 43:28-tier one unless they I feel like I'm grandfathered
- 43:33into their device limit at the moment because
- 43:35I'm still able to watch on more than one. So
- 43:37unless they change that, I'm going to stay on
- 43:39what I am. But if they do change it, I'm going
- 43:41to have to upgrade it. Fair enough. All right.
- 43:44Sorry. A little tangent there. Kev, well, before
- 43:48we move on, do you guys even have any news to
- 43:52bring up when we get there? Not really, aside
- 43:56from Max. i guess let's not do a transition kev
- 44:00for news because there's not really anything
- 44:01i can mention just one very this is not really
- 44:03even news uh i got one too that's not also not
- 44:06ferrari yeah so uh hamilton was mentioning something
- 44:10about how the ferrari is still not feeling great
- 44:13i mean also mentioned how ever since we got a
- 44:15ground effects and this is right around the time
- 44:17hamilton you know started getting really beat
- 44:19like i mean in the mercedes ever since the ground
- 44:22effects kind of came about he just hasn't really
- 44:24performed as well as he could so that was a little
- 44:26interesting not really news but just some commentary
- 44:28from the the Ferrari drivers fair enough um I
- 44:32also don't really have any news but I've seen
- 44:34this from multiple sources now actually that
- 44:37we could be getting a new F1 track uh in Saudi
- 44:42Arabia uh in like 2027 oh yeah have you seen
- 44:46the renderings of that i meant i meant to uh
- 44:48to mention this last race actually yeah yeah
- 44:50so that is is going to happen why do you say
- 44:52it's called kadaya kadaya okay so saudi arabia
- 44:56is meant to actually be like a temporary trail
- 44:58jeddah is meant to be a temporary track um for
- 45:01kadaya it's gonna happen now because it's done
- 45:04so well they are considering keeping it on yes
- 45:06do not take away i would be really upset i would
- 45:09too i think you have to know like it's probably
- 45:11like i mean they i think at some point The Middle
- 45:15East has a lot of money that they can spend on
- 45:16this. They can afford to host two F1 races and
- 45:19maintain them. It's fine. That should be happening,
- 45:24I think, like you said, 2027 -ish. 2027 -ish.
- 45:27They want to be the first race of the year, though.
- 45:29They want to knock Australia down and be the
- 45:32first, the opening race of the year, make this
- 45:34big futuristic track, dump in. It's like $460
- 45:37million. They just want to build this mecca.
- 45:41So they call it the Mega Project. Yeah. Kodaya
- 45:44Mega Project. interesting i haven't heard anything
- 45:47about that i've heard about the rumblings about
- 45:49the chicago track yeah i have not heard anything
- 45:52about that i think we mentioned kadaya once last
- 45:56season and it was like still early like really
- 45:58early projections and like the the template that
- 46:01we were seeing was like the track went like 40
- 46:04feet in the air and did like a which is i think
- 46:07i remember that it's still the plan like really
- 46:09i think so they're saying it's not like i don't
- 46:11know about 40 feet but it's it's a good uphill
- 46:13yeah and then yeah you have the turn immediately
- 46:16they call it the blade i guess is what they would
- 46:19be calling it yeah very like an embankment hairpin
- 46:22yeah dude that sounds scary as heck but like
- 46:26uh they say it's not out of the question like
- 46:28it's definitely doable and like safe yeah i was
- 46:31i was because all i could think of i was like
- 46:32if you have something that's like that high up
- 46:34it's like how are you going to stop cars from
- 46:35launching on the side exactly i don't want to
- 46:38see i i do not want to support a track that we're
- 46:40going to see a driver possibly fly off and like
- 46:43fly off the edge of this race you know yeah that's
- 46:46gotta be right there like not not possible yeah
- 46:49that's exactly like feel comfortable about it
- 46:51yeah that is the rendering of the blade turn
- 46:54at oh yeah i saw that Not possible, right? Just
- 46:57not possible. Yeah, but it's not going to look
- 47:00that pretty. There's going to be barriers and
- 47:02walls. Renderings never look the same. I mean,
- 47:04it's pretty rare. Sometimes they do with stadiums
- 47:07and stuff. They're going to have concrete somewhere
- 47:08around there. I don't know about the logistics
- 47:10of it, but I know if they do the Chicago race,
- 47:13I want the track to go through Union Park so
- 47:16that we can drive past the Bean. That would be
- 47:19awesome. Let's have them drive under the bean.
- 47:23Under the bean? The bean gets pretty low to the
- 47:26ground. Let's build the track under the bean.
- 47:29There's barely enough room for one car to pass,
- 47:31although they're making the cars smaller. They
- 47:33are smaller. We could fit two cars under the
- 47:36bean in Chicago. I don't know if we could fit
- 47:40even one car under the bean. The Bean. The Bean.
- 47:44Kev with The Bean. We're going to move on to
- 47:47the Miami preview. All right. It's time to get
- 48:02up to speed with Miami first. I have to ask,
- 48:04what would you prefer, The Bean or The Sphere?
- 48:08The Bean. The Bean. The Sphere. Vegas. Don't
- 48:12get me started on Vegas, GP. That's a rabbit
- 48:14hole. I'm not a huge fan. We're going to talk
- 48:16about a different American track that is already
- 48:18on the calendar. I don't hate Miami. Other than
- 48:22the fake. Oh, I already blew your thunder. Oh,
- 48:25the fake. Yeah, no, please. But the fake yachts.
- 48:27Well, the real yachts on the fake water. I hate
- 48:30that so much. Please stop it. If you're someone
- 48:33who owns one of those boats or who runs admissions
- 48:36on one of those boats in the fake water, I just
- 48:37want to tell you, hit me up. I'd love to be on
- 48:39one of those boats. So we're going to talk about
- 48:44the Formula One Crypto .com Miami Grand Prix
- 48:462025. As always, a little fun fact. Miami is
- 48:50the 11th different venue in the U .S. to host
- 48:52F1. Unlike traditional street circuits, Miami's
- 48:57race takes place on a temporary track built around
- 49:00the Hard Rock Stadium complex, which after the
- 49:02race weekend gets dismantled. Last year's starting
- 49:07grid was Max to Charles, Carlos to Sergio, and
- 49:11then to Lando in fifth. Lights out and away we
- 49:15go at our first United States stop of the season.
- 49:17Max leading the pack into turn one with Charles
- 49:19right behind him. But Charles has a poor start
- 49:22and allows Carlos to take second place before
- 49:24turn one. The top three order is almost shuffled
- 49:27as Sergio locks up and nearly misses hitting
- 49:31Max, sliding in front of both Ferraris and into
- 49:33the runoff area, coming back on track right in
- 49:36front of the McLarens. This allows Charles to
- 49:40take his place back while Oscar capitalizes on
- 49:42both errors and finds himself ahead of Sergio,
- 49:45overtaking Carlos in the next set of turns. Lap
- 49:48four, Max leading the pack. Piastri makes the
- 49:50move on Charles for P2 at the end of the back
- 49:52straight. Down the field, Hamilton has a kerfuffle.
- 49:55with hulkenberg for seventh place almost colliding
- 49:58with the hall haas but making his overtake stick
- 50:00it doesn't stick for long however as hamilton
- 50:02looks up at the end of the long back straight
- 50:04practically handing hulk his locks up sorry at
- 50:07the end of the back straight practically handing
- 50:09hulk his seventh position back these two keep
- 50:12fighting for the next few laps until hamilton
- 50:13makes the overtake again on lap 10 two laps later
- 50:16russell takes eighth place from hulkenberg One
- 50:19lap later, we watch Verstappen hit the ball art
- 50:21at the chicane right before the long straight,
- 50:23taking it for a ride and slowing him down slightly.
- 50:26He pits two laps later for fresh tires. In the
- 50:28coming laps, we see some fighting for the lower
- 50:30places. Hulkenberg's day getting worse as he's
- 50:32overtaken by Alonso and Gasly. Russell taking
- 50:35the final point place from Ocon and Danny Rick.
- 50:38Sargent cementing himself an 18th or lower. We
- 50:41hit lap 28, and the next round of pits for front
- 50:43runners begins as Piastri, who's been leading
- 50:45after Max Pitt, does his own pit stop alongside
- 50:48Simon. lines norris without a pit now leads the
- 50:51race about 11 seconds ahead of max our net leader
- 50:54and then a light shines down on norris as dark
- 50:57clouds emerge for kmag and sergeant who collide
- 50:59together in the first few s turns of the track
- 51:01the safety car is deployed as norris is pitting
- 51:04slowing the rest of the field down just in time
- 51:06for him to get an almost free pit stop Lap 33,
- 51:10Lando leads the grid on the safety car restart,
- 51:12fresher tires than any of those behind him, but
- 51:14Max is sticking to the back of him like white
- 51:16on rice, fighting immediately through the first
- 51:18turns. Lando is able to build a second gap to
- 51:21Max, while a few places down his teammate Piastri
- 51:24fights to defend fourth place from Carlos Sainz,
- 51:26who attempts to overtake at the end of the middle
- 51:28DRS straight. Piastri makes a wild defense move
- 51:31on Carlos, cutting into him after the corner
- 51:33and just about meeting his side pod to Carlos'
- 51:35tire, but holding into fourth for now. more fighting
- 51:38from carlos and piastri about six laps later
- 51:41at the end of the back straight carlos takes
- 51:43the inside line and goes a little slower about
- 51:45it than oscar is anticipating he turns into the
- 51:47ferrari clipping his front wing onto their back
- 51:49tire and starting to fight him through the starting
- 51:51straight and overtaking him to turn one but going
- 51:53wide into the runoff and slotting it right behind
- 51:56him piastri with a broken front wing now has
- 51:58to defend from pairs but is unable to hold him
- 52:01back on that 40 when he's overtaking by both
- 52:03sergio and hamilton taking advantage of the wounded
- 52:06mclaren at the turn where fight carlos the first
- 52:08time piastri decides to take a wing change with
- 52:11a side of fresh tires 16 laps before race end
- 52:14he comes out in p18 now i vividly recall the
- 52:18last 17 laps because i was feeling sick to my
- 52:20stomach we watch as norris leads the race knowing
- 52:24how one wrong move could end his chance for his
- 52:26first win watching him build a 7 .8 second gap
- 52:29to max and then finally watching him reach the
- 52:31finish line Norris winning in his first F -Wing
- 52:35race in our home country. We feel his emotion
- 52:38through the radio messages as we watch his fellow
- 52:41drivers congratulate him on the in -lap and the
- 52:44dive he takes into his team after reaching the
- 52:46end. Definitely still one of my favorite F1 top
- 52:50moments ever. Our final is Norris to Verstappen,
- 52:53Leclerc to Sainz, Perez to Hamilton, Sunoda to
- 52:56Russell, and Alonso to Ocon. And that is up to
- 53:03speed on the Miami GP. Our goat, my goat, Kevin
- 53:06Magnuson, saving Lando's race. You're right.
- 53:11It was kidding. And we won't have him this time
- 53:13around. I forgot that that was Lando's first
- 53:14win. What's Lando going to do? Without the goat,
- 53:18Kevin, to save him again this year. I feel like
- 53:20I remember Max putting up more of a fight after
- 53:23the restart, but... lando pulled away just simply
- 53:26like simply like i i thought i thought that i
- 53:28i can't remember i think i was more sick because
- 53:30i knew how lando like just he choked honestly
- 53:33like he choked a lot last season and so i was
- 53:36just waiting and i was like feeling sick but
- 53:38he he held it out and was able to bring it home
- 53:40a decent pace away from from max as well so it
- 53:43was yeah it was a really really nice first win
- 53:45right now today this second not necessarily this
- 53:50season at this point but is lando still a wdc
- 53:54champion a future wdc champion right now at this
- 53:58point yeah as i'm sitting out here today 422
- 54:01with those pants on these pants on yeah he is
- 54:06yeah lando is still a future wdc fair enough
- 54:09i don't know if it's this year but and i honestly
- 54:13honestly i'm about to contradict myself i don't
- 54:15know but i think he has I think he has, you know,
- 54:20the talent to do it. I really do. Fair enough.
- 54:23Fair enough. I was just curious. Just curious.
- 54:27Okay. I guess it's predictions now, huh? And
- 54:29I guess it's me first, huh? Because I'm still
- 54:32winning. I got 15 Mike encroaches on me at 13
- 54:36points and Joe doing his thing with 12 points.
- 54:40Stupid Charles pick. I can't believe it. Crazy.
- 54:48Really happy you guys are going ahead with me.
- 54:49I'm actually kind of happy I'm in last place
- 54:50because I need a little help on this one. Here
- 54:55it happens. In this order, one to three. Yeah.
- 54:59Max, Oscar, Charles. Yeah. Yeah, I see that.
- 55:04I think the Ferraris are going to do well here.
- 55:08What I don't know is Lando could absolutely bounce
- 55:10back here and be on the podium, too. I also,
- 55:15George is... You know, in the back of my mind
- 55:17as well. George makes it difficult for me. But,
- 55:20I mean, if Lando's not on the podium, he's probably
- 55:22right there at P4 again then. You know, honestly.
- 55:27But he could beat out Charles. But I'm going
- 55:30with it. Max, Oscar, Charles. In that order.
- 55:33In that order. Correct. Number one, Oscar's winning
- 55:40again. Number two. Lando's back on the podium.
- 55:46Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Hold on. He's back. He's back.
- 55:50You said he wasn't going to come back. Yeah,
- 55:51I know. I know what I said. You need to dive
- 55:55into it a little bit. And number three is obviously
- 55:58Max Verstappen. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. So you're
- 56:00going in that order, Oscar Lando Max. Yep. No,
- 56:03sir. I think we're going to see a double podium
- 56:05from McLaren. A double podium, maybe, but it'd
- 56:08be 1 -3. There's no way they go 1 -2 at Miami.
- 56:11That'd be crazy. I think it's crazy if McLaren
- 56:15goes 1 -2 right now at any track right now. I
- 56:18think Landau just doesn't have the right pace.
- 56:21In comparison, Max is driving the crap out of
- 56:24a car that doesn't also have pace, but Max is
- 56:27going to be fighting for podiums I think most
- 56:28of the season. 10 -4 is pretty good last weekend.
- 56:31It is. It is. But 10 -4 is good enough to get
- 56:37up to 3. He didn't impress me last weekend. I
- 56:40do think he's going to be on the podium more
- 56:42this year, obviously, because he's Lando Norris.
- 56:45He won this track last year. He's clearly comfortable
- 56:47here. For sure. He said max for three, right?
- 56:50Max for three, yep. Yeah, it's kind of a toss
- 56:53-up, but I think there's so many good cars here.
- 56:56I think the Mercedes is kind of a sleeper pick
- 56:58here. I know. I know. My gut was like George
- 57:00at three. I'm like, no, no, you've done that.
- 57:03I was sitting here thinking, I'm like, what has
- 57:04George done on this track? Not much. He didn't
- 57:07do well last year. He didn't. Both of them got
- 57:09top 10, but, you know, they weren't close to.
- 57:12We're picking top three, Joe. Is it good enough
- 57:14to be top three? First of all, don't yell at
- 57:16me. First of all, you're getting really aggressive.
- 57:18Holy cow. Joe's mom will be very angry with you.
- 57:23My mom said you got to come out and talk to her.
- 57:27I'm like, I'm like a bird in your gaze. I'm like.
- 57:32My mom says you have to go talk to her. She's
- 57:34a little angry. I just stopped myself from a
- 57:37spit take. I'm glad you didn't. Yeah, that would
- 57:41have been awkward for everyone. I'm glad you
- 57:42did not do a spit take on our thing. So I have.
- 57:46Got to be good. I think Oscar is going to be
- 57:48in my podium. He did not. He had a really bad
- 57:51running last time, but he was fighting really
- 57:53hard, and he just got caught out by Carlos. Uh
- 57:57-oh. I am going to put Oscar in first. He won.
- 58:00Yes. And then I'm going to put Max in second.
- 58:04Yeah, you are. Because there are two really long
- 58:09straights here. And McLaren has said themselves
- 58:12that the straights are not great for them at
- 58:14the moment. You're not going Lando. You're not
- 58:18going Lando in P3. I am between Lando and Charles.
- 58:21You know who you got to pick here. wearing the
- 58:24hat man doesn't pick charles one time and it's
- 58:27all of a sudden a charles believer who me him
- 58:30oh i was like really good last year i was like
- 58:32he's actually really good at this track and like
- 58:35lando ferraris are decent at this track right
- 58:38now they are they are and hamilton's getting
- 58:40comfortable in that car so he's in podium no
- 58:43but he could be helping out yeah he could be
- 58:46helping out get somebody else but the pace of
- 58:48the mclaren is still so good right uh It's interesting.
- 58:53During post -race interviews, Lando had said...
- 58:56He's delaying picking Gasly. Lando had said that
- 59:01they weren't the fastest car there this weekend,
- 59:03but Oscar was like, no, he's wrong. We were the
- 59:05fastest car there this weekend. Yeah, I love
- 59:06that. Okay, I'm... My finger's on the L for Lando.
- 59:12Yeah, it's Lando. Okay. Just kidding. It's L
- 59:15for LeClaire. No, it's Lando. It's Lando. It's
- 59:18got to be Lando. Yeah, I just... I really think
- 59:21I'm, I actually think I could like very possibly
- 59:24get caught up by Charles again and he's going
- 59:26to become my nemesis because I won't pick him.
- 59:28And then you'll pick him next week. He was really
- 59:30fast. I just feel like Lando, like his win last
- 59:33year was like, it was not, it was at no point
- 59:36before like the last lap or rather no point until
- 59:41like the last 10 laps in like that he would win
- 59:44this or he would even get a podium. Right. So
- 59:46it was, yeah, but I think. if if they can not
- 59:51mess up qualifying they're in a good spot quality
- 59:54will be very interesting this is a very i think
- 59:56we've mentioned this already like mclaren's has
- 59:58a bad has a bad issue where they have two cars
- 1:00:01on the grid right now and they need clean air
- 1:00:03and as long as they have two cars on the grid
- 1:00:04one of them's not going to get clean air right
- 1:00:06you know so um if oscar if one of them goes into
- 1:00:10first i think they're keeping it pretty much
- 1:00:12through the whole race and then the other one
- 1:00:13just has to hold out so just to keep it interesting
- 1:00:18I don't wish this for my podium, but for F1 and
- 1:00:22for the rest of this, the outlook of the rest
- 1:00:25of the season, I do wish Lando would win this
- 1:00:27race. Just because it makes it interesting. Now
- 1:00:30all of a sudden you're like, okay, well now what?
- 1:00:33Now it's a battle between Oscar and Lando within
- 1:00:35the same team, and that's going to be fun. You
- 1:00:37know what I mean? God forbid Max wins another
- 1:00:39one. You know what I mean? Now what? As far as
- 1:00:42WDC goes, constructors we know. probably right
- 1:00:45but as far as wdc goes who knows i mean that
- 1:00:48could be up for grabs if at the summer break
- 1:00:50but yeah we didn't mention piastri is now leading
- 1:00:53the championship yeah by 10 by 10 points uh about
- 1:00:56that i'm just about to go yeah i can't remember
- 1:00:58but i know he's leading you might as well check
- 1:01:00instructors then we're out of here he's up by
- 1:01:0410 points right now lando's leading uh um he's
- 1:01:08he's leading oscar's leading lando oscar's leading
- 1:01:10lando by 10 points and then max is behind lando
- 1:01:13by only two yeah dude see that's what i'm talking
- 1:01:16about max is right there all of them and 10 points
- 1:01:18isn't that and then russell's at 73 which is
- 1:01:21only george is like the top four so a single
- 1:01:24race if max wins this race too you should if
- 1:01:28your podium is right you did you did max oscar
- 1:01:31charles charles yeah so if your podium is right
- 1:01:33then Max is going to go ahead of Lando, but not
- 1:01:39ahead of Oscar. I think there should still be
- 1:01:41like a finish P2. Yeah. So if that's right, but
- 1:01:45they will be like neck and neck. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:01:47With Lando not far behind. With Lando a little
- 1:01:50ways behind. now if george no okay george one
- 1:01:56wins the race now what i do hope i'm wrong i
- 1:01:58do hope i'm wrong and max doesn't make it and
- 1:02:01charles or george does because like they're like
- 1:02:04not my worry at the moment right but max is max
- 1:02:07is a worry yeah i want to on record it's not
- 1:02:10on my on my on record here it is just on record
- 1:02:13that like i was at work today and my gut was
- 1:02:15like like oh and Is George going to win in Miami?
- 1:02:21Why am I getting a gut feeling that George is
- 1:02:23going to win? Is this like a premonition or just
- 1:02:25bad gas? And then you farted. So if George wins
- 1:02:34this race, we know it wasn't bad gas. That's
- 1:02:40true. Then we'll know if George wins. I'm going
- 1:02:43to be like, dang, Mike's problem solved. Dang,
- 1:02:46it wasn't bad gas. And if George doesn't win,
- 1:02:49you're bringing the Tums. Oh, my God. Mike, thanks
- 1:02:55for being here again. Happy to be here. It was
- 1:02:57fun. Again, as always, we got a mola coming up
- 1:03:00next. I'm sorry. I'm an idiot. Miami coming up
- 1:03:02next. We just predicted it. I'm like three weeks
- 1:03:07ahead, dude. Joe was here as well. Hi, guys.
- 1:03:14I'm still here. His name's Joe. I won't be here
- 1:03:16very long. Why? My mom's here. Dang it. Don't
- 1:03:23forget Kev behind the camera and the computer
- 1:03:25making everything happen. He got our third camera
- 1:03:28up and running. That was all him. We got the
- 1:03:31third camera this week. We got to make an upgrade
- 1:03:33there, actually. It's frozen, actually, if you're
- 1:03:37looking on screen right now. What a great picture.
