- 0:24Speaker 2: The Provider.
- 0:29Ron Meyers: Hello, my friends, it is so good to be with you today.
- 0:32Ron Meyers: If I was to ask you, what do you love about yourself?
- 0:37Ron Meyers: What would you tell me?
- 0:39Ron Meyers: My guest today was asked that very same question a few years ago and she burst out in tears and said lady, I don't even like myself.
- 0:50Ron Meyers: Sometimes that low self-esteem, self-image, will destroy our hopes.
- 1:00Ron Meyers: Our dreams lead us to drugs, to alcoholism, divorce, and today's guest, robin Arunder, went through all of that.
- 1:11Ron Meyers: But then she met hope, and hope, named Jesus, changed her life.
- 1:19Ron Meyers: So I encourage you to invest a few minutes to listen to Robin's story.
- 1:25Ron Meyers: It is encouraging, empowering and very inspirational.
- 1:32Ron Meyers: Robin, I'm so glad you are going to share your story.
- 1:36Ron Meyers: So, robin Arunder, what is your story?
- 1:43Robin Arender: Oh wow.
- 1:43Robin Arender: I grew up in a small town, in Simpson County.
- 1:47Robin Arender: I always felt different about myself.
- 1:50Robin Arender: I couldn't put a nail on my head what it was, but I just didn't feel like I belonged anywhere.
- 1:59Robin Arender: I tried so hard to make friends and I just felt like I was different from all of them.
- 2:07Robin Arender: I don't know what it was.
- 2:08Robin Arender: I grew up in church.
- 2:11Robin Arender: I was in the youth group children's.
- 2:13Robin Arender: My mom always took us to church.
- 2:15Robin Arender: She was an angel.
- 2:17Robin Arender: I could remember riding to church and she'd say devil, get behind me, devil.
- 2:21Robin Arender: And I didn't understand what she meant.
- 2:24Robin Arender: Until later on in life I saw my first relationship.
- 2:30Robin Arender: My first marriage was abuse of relationship.
- 2:33Robin Arender: It was physical, it was mental.
- 2:36Robin Arender: In that relationship I developed an eating disorder.
- 2:40Robin Arender: I felt that I needed to look a certain way, act a certain way.
- 2:46Robin Arender: I never had self-esteem for myself.
- 2:49Robin Arender: I went to treatment for that.
- 2:52Robin Arender: I got out of the relationship.
- 2:53Robin Arender: Then I met my kids' dads, noel and Nick, and we stayed together for 13 years.
- 3:02Robin Arender: It was a pretty good marriage.
- 3:03Robin Arender: We went to church, we were there every time the doors opened.
- 3:07Robin Arender: Soccer games, softball games.
- 3:08Robin Arender: It was all about the kids.
- 3:10Robin Arender: But I realized later that I was using them to fill my void in life, making everything about them and not dealing with my own issues.
- 3:22Robin Arender: My kids are precious to me.
- 3:25Robin Arender: They love me.
- 3:26Robin Arender: Today they have been there for me In 13 years.
- 3:30Robin Arender: Later we got divorced.
- 3:31Robin Arender: Within five years I had my mom die, my men, my daughter die.
- 3:35Robin Arender: I lost a little girl, lani Gray.
- 3:37Robin Arender: She lived for 20 minutes.
- 3:38Robin Arender: Let me just go back a little bit.
- 3:43Robin Arender: Before that marriage I found out that I was an alcoholic.
- 3:47Robin Arender: I was drinking way too much, but during this marriage there was no drinking at all.
- 3:52Robin Arender: But after we got divorced I thought, you know, I can have just that one drink With all the important people in my life that have passed away.
- 4:02Robin Arender: You know I looked to them for advice, for comfort, and now I just felt kind of on my own.
- 4:09Robin Arender: We were divorced there I turned away from the church that we went into.
- 4:13Robin Arender: I had my kids and I just I turned to the bottle to ease my comfort and to bring some kind of comfort and pain.
- 4:26Ron Meyers: Well, that had to be a vicious cycle of life, because every day you wake up there's more pain.
- 4:32Ron Meyers: But to numb the pain, you take a drink and you go on and on.
- 4:36Ron Meyers: How long did this last?
- 4:38Robin Arender: And it was to numb the pain.
- 4:39Robin Arender: I was not a partier or anything like that, it was strictly to numb the pain.
- 4:44Robin Arender: It lasted on and off for probably 10 more years.
- 4:49Robin Arender: I got in another domestic violence relationship and we lived together and I was so ashamed and embarrassed of that relationship because, you know, I put my kids, the ones that I love the most, I put them to the wayside.
- 5:07Robin Arender: I just I didn't know how to handle life and I went about it in a bad way instead of asking for help.
- 5:17Robin Arender: You know, I always tried to be perfect and I always tried to put on a persona on the outside and have a smile, but deep down inside I was just.
- 5:27Robin Arender: I hated myself, I was lonely on the inside.
- 5:31Robin Arender: You know, I was just.
- 5:33Robin Arender: I was hurting.
- 5:34Robin Arender: I was hurting.
- 5:36Ron Meyers: I read in part of your story that you lived I think this was on your third relationship, my last one Kind of like on a little desert island or something.
- 5:45Ron Meyers: It wasn't a desert island, but you were isolated.
- 5:48Ron Meyers: There was only one way in and one way out.
- 5:50Ron Meyers: Tell us about that.
- 5:53Robin Arender: This last and final guy that I was with.
- 5:56Robin Arender: I met him on a dating site, you know, and I think, well, I know, yeah, I just didn't want to be alone.
- 6:04Robin Arender: I didn't trust the decisions that I made.
- 6:07Robin Arender: I needed somebody to tell me what to do and I didn't want to be alone.
- 6:11Robin Arender: So I, you know, I said, well, I guess I'll be miserable rather than being alone.
- 6:16Robin Arender: I just didn't have the courage and the faith that I needed, always knew I was a Christian, always knew that God was there for me and I always knew that he could take the burden away from me.
- 6:27Robin Arender: I just could not make that, that step into giving it all over to him.
- 6:32Robin Arender: I don't know if it was a control thing or or what it was, but I just couldn't give myself completely to God and do what I needed to do.
- 6:41Robin Arender: Yes, we were isolated, and if he didn't want to go out, we didn't go out, go to town or anything like that, and I put on a good front with my friends and family.
- 6:53Ron Meyers: But one day you had somebody come pick you up in a boat because your life was about to change, wasn't it?
- 7:00Robin Arender: Yeah, I, I got sick and tired of being sick and tired.
- 7:03Robin Arender: I knew that I did not want to live the rest of my life this way.
- 7:09Robin Arender: I knew that there had to be something more.
- 7:12Robin Arender: And I had been talking with the women at the um Gov Coast Women's Center for nonviolence and you know they said Robin, when you're ready, come on, come on.
- 7:23Robin Arender: So I called him and I said I'm coming.
- 7:25Robin Arender: I had somebody come pick me up in a boat.
- 7:28Robin Arender: I packed my suitcase of what I could pack.
- 7:32Robin Arender: I got in my old raggedy car and I made it to the shelter and I can't tell you the good that they do for other people.
- 7:42Robin Arender: Ms Patricia, there they are wonderful.
- 7:46Robin Arender: They loved me until I could love myself.
- 7:49Robin Arender: They welcomed me with open arms and the main thing about it is I felt safe.
- 7:54Robin Arender: I felt really safe.
- 7:56Ron Meyers: You said something that's just really a powerful statement.
- 8:00Ron Meyers: They loved you until you could love yourself.
- 8:05Ron Meyers: So you really had this low self image and, as you said a little bit ago, no self esteem.
- 8:12Ron Meyers: All of a sudden, life was starting to change.
- 8:15Ron Meyers: You were starting to feel good about yourself.
- 8:17Ron Meyers: You knew that God had created you with a purpose and a destiny.
- 8:22Robin Arender: It didn't happen overnight.
- 8:23Robin Arender: There was so many things.
- 8:25Robin Arender: I kept on drinking.
- 8:28Robin Arender: They got me a grant for my own apartment and things were looking up.
- 8:31Robin Arender: I had found me a job.
- 8:33Robin Arender: You know I've always had really good jobs, decent jobs, and you know I was just thankful to get whatever job I could.
- 8:40Robin Arender: It was so humbling to me and I got involved in alcoholics synonymous.
- 8:45Robin Arender: The first three steps are I can't, he can, I'll let him.
- 8:50Robin Arender: I got into therapy.
- 8:52Robin Arender: The therapy was the biggest motivator for me.
- 8:54Robin Arender: When I walked in that room, she asked me.
- 8:57Robin Arender: She said what do you love about yourself?
- 9:00Robin Arender: And I promise you, tears just came streaming down my eyes because I was like lady, I don't even like myself.
- 9:07Robin Arender: I don't know how you could think I love myself and I do want to say this January 2, 2019.
- 9:16Robin Arender: This was before I went to the therapist.
- 9:20Robin Arender: I had ended up in the hospital, real sick from drinking, and I had seen what it did to my family, and that was when I got out of the hospital.
- 9:29Robin Arender: I got on my knees and I said God, please take this from me, please take this desire, please help me.
- 9:37Robin Arender: You know, it's like they say, just having faith of a mustard seed.
- 9:42Robin Arender: That is all it took and my life started to change.
- 9:47Robin Arender: And getting back in the therapy, you know I was thinking how in the world is therapy going to make me feel better?
- 9:53Robin Arender: You know it's not a quick fix, it's not medicine.
- 9:57Robin Arender: You know that I can just take and start feeling better.
- 10:00Robin Arender: But she made me do things like write post-it notes with, put goals and all this kind of stuff.
- 10:07Robin Arender: And you know, when we first started out I said, well, I did it, but it didn't mean anything to me.
- 10:12Robin Arender: And she said keep doing it.
- 10:14Robin Arender: And I did and I promise you that therapy and giving it all to God it, it filled that void in that hole.
- 10:24Ron Meyers: End listeners.

- 12:00Speaker 6: I'm cold and I am changed, lying naked on the floor.
- 12:05Ron Meyers: Illusion never changed Into something real and wide awake and I can see.
- 12:12Ron Meyers: The perfect sky is tall Listeners, welcome back, and the studio is with me today is Robin Arinder.
- 12:20Ron Meyers: Arinder, I said right, we have pronunciation classes here.
- 12:25Robin Arender: And Robin was in abusive relationship.
- 12:31Ron Meyers: She was a drinker, she had everything going against her, but then she fell to her knees.
- 12:38Ron Meyers: And now this segment she's going to tell you what God has been doing in her life and also to give some encouragement to others out there that just haven't failed to their knees yet.
- 12:52Ron Meyers: So, robin, life is starting to turn around.
- 12:55Ron Meyers: You have you and your children, and so tell us the what life is like now.
- 13:00Ron Meyers: How is the life for Robin Arinder?
- 13:04Robin Arender: You know, I've learned so much about myself and I you know my I was in all those domestic violence relationships and I took time off.
- 13:13Robin Arender: I said, you know, I've got to work on myself and learn to love myself before I will be good for somebody else.
- 13:21Robin Arender: And um, and that's what I did.
- 13:24Robin Arender: And now when the next guy comes along, God willing, you know, he'll be lucky.
- 13:30Ron Meyers: He'll be very lucky.
- 13:32Ron Meyers: I love it.
- 13:32Ron Meyers: I love it and listen in your story.
- 13:35Ron Meyers: I'm going to share some things that you shared and then you can elaborate on them.
- 13:39Ron Meyers: You said there are numerous things I have learned along the way and so many tools I can use Now.
- 13:46Ron Meyers: I think this is great wisdom that you can share with others.
- 13:49Ron Meyers: One of them is hurt people hurt.
- 13:52Ron Meyers: What do?
- 13:53Robin Arender: you mean, I mean, you know, I know in all my domestic violence relationships you know they were narcissists, they were hurting themselves.
- 14:03Robin Arender: You know, I know at times when I'm, when I hurt, I lash out at other people that that didn't even deserve it.
- 14:11Robin Arender: You know we hurt and we just want to make everybody else around us miserable and hurt too.
- 14:18Ron Meyers: You also write God is still in the miracle business.
- 14:22Robin Arender: Absolutely.
- 14:22Robin Arender: Look if he can, if he can change my heart the way he did.
- 14:27Robin Arender: And I see miracles every day that are only described by God things, only described by God things.
- 14:36Robin Arender: You know, I I can't emphasize enough what he, that void that he filled in my heart, that was missing forever, forever, and only him could do it.
- 14:50Ron Meyers: Yeah, only him, I agree.
- 14:52Ron Meyers: Another one you wrote I can only keep what I can give away.
- 14:58Robin Arender: What I'm saying by that is, you know, if, if I want to keep myself is spiritually fit, then I have to give that away.
- 15:08Robin Arender: I have to be good to other people.
- 15:10Robin Arender: I have to consider other people besides myself.
- 15:13Robin Arender: I have to promote grace.
- 15:16Robin Arender: Sometimes that's hard with some people when they don't act the way I want them to act, but I have to say you know, God gave me an imaginable grace, and who am I not to give grace to other people?
- 15:31Ron Meyers: You know that's so well put.
- 15:32Ron Meyers: I call it the boomerang effect.
- 15:35Ron Meyers: You know what we give comes back to us.
- 15:38Robin Arender: I can guarantee you in this works every time.
- 15:40Robin Arender: If I'm having a bad day, if I step out of myself and do something for somebody else, that bad, that bad day gets better instantly.
- 15:51Ron Meyers: Here's one I love Don't stop before the miracle happens.
- 15:58Robin Arender: That's one of the sands that we say in alcoholics anonymous.
- 16:01Robin Arender: I'm involved that, that too, you know.
- 16:03Robin Arender: My first sponsor told me, as long as you're breathing, that's there's a chance.
- 16:07Robin Arender: And I hold that with me.
- 16:10Robin Arender: You know, when I first got sober and first started getting in recovery, you know, if I made it through the day, that was in a consciousness and that was good for that day.
- 16:20Robin Arender: It was progress, not perfection.
- 16:25Ron Meyers: Progress, not perfection.
- 16:26Ron Meyers: I like that.
- 16:26Ron Meyers: That's good.
- 16:27Ron Meyers: You are definitely a wiser person than you were 10 or 15 years ago, aren't you?
- 16:33Robin Arender: No, absolutely.
- 16:34Robin Arender: But it's nothing that I did, I promise.
- 16:37Robin Arender: I just had to become willing.
- 16:41Ron Meyers: One of the other ones you wrote.
- 16:42Ron Meyers: I fall short every day on these describing the things we just talked about, but by recognizing them I get a chance to make things right and hopefully share my experience, strength and hope with someone suffering Wow.
- 16:59Robin Arender: That's right.
- 17:00Ron Meyers: So somebody out there right now that may be hurting, suffering in an abusive relationship, you can talk to them now one on one.
- 17:08Ron Meyers: Robin, what would you tell them?
- 17:12Robin Arender: I promise you things get better.
- 17:13Robin Arender: There is a way out.
- 17:15Robin Arender: It is not hopeless.
- 17:18Robin Arender: God will turn that into hopeful.
- 17:20Robin Arender: Whatever your situation is, I promise you ask for help.
- 17:26Robin Arender: You know I never asked for help and until I did ask for help because I learned that when I get those feelings out there they lose that power over me.
- 17:40Robin Arender: They don't control me anymore when I talk to somebody else about what's going on in my life.
- 17:47Ron Meyers: So is life good.
- 17:48Ron Meyers: Are you happy?
- 17:49Robin Arender: I am happy.
- 17:51Ron Meyers: How's your?
- 17:51Robin Arender: Yeah, I am happy.
- 17:53Ron Meyers: How's your children?
- 17:55Robin Arender: Oh gosh.
- 17:55Robin Arender: You know they have been through so much and you know I had a lot of guilt and shame.
- 18:03Robin Arender: It took me a while to get over that guilt and shame because they're the most important people in my life and you know I'd never thought that I would treat them the way that I did.
- 18:13Robin Arender: And you know I stayed stuck in that.
- 18:16Robin Arender: I stayed stuck in that guilt and shame and it was only till I got it out and I had to forgive myself.
- 18:24Robin Arender: You know, when they say forgiveness is for yourself, not the other person, that's true.
- 18:29Robin Arender: I can't afford to hold resentments.
- 18:31Robin Arender: You know I have to face it head on.
- 18:35Robin Arender: They have just.
- 18:36Robin Arender: They love me today.
- 18:37Robin Arender: They love me and I've told them.
- 18:39Robin Arender: I said you know you have every reason not to love me, to hate me, things I've done, and they say you're supposed to love your mama.
- 18:47Robin Arender: And you know we have such a good relationship.
- 18:51Ron Meyers: So, robin, what's the future?
- 18:53Ron Meyers: What do you hope to do one day with this new life?
- 18:56Robin Arender: You know, if I could quit work and talk about God all day long, I would.
- 19:00Robin Arender: I just he's been that good to me and it makes me happy to talk about God Now.
- 19:08Robin Arender: I have bad days.
- 19:09Robin Arender: I do.
- 19:10Robin Arender: I have some bad days, but the good days far outweigh the bad days.
- 19:15Ron Meyers: Well, I think everybody, if they're honest with themselves.
- 19:17Ron Meyers: We all have bad days, but you and I and others out there, we know who's in control of the day, and when we say God, I need your help, he comes in and he helps, doesn't?
- 19:28Robin Arender: he, he does, he does.
- 19:30Ron Meyers: Wow.
- 19:30Ron Meyers: Well, you know, the title of this show is Get the Hell Out of your Life.
- 19:35Ron Meyers: So now my question to you how does a person get the hell out of their life?
- 19:40Robin Arender: They take the first day out.
- 19:42Robin Arender: They admit that.
- 19:43Robin Arender: You know there's a problem, they acknowledge it.
- 19:46Robin Arender: You know I can do anything once I acknowledge it.
- 19:48Robin Arender: You know I have learned and it's taken many lessons to get out of the problem and getting in the solution, because there is a solution to every problem.
- 20:00Ron Meyers: I sent you a copy of my story.
- 20:02Ron Meyers: You did and you were telling me and I'm not doing this for any compliments, but you said that helped give you some courage to share your story.
- 20:12Robin Arender: It, did it, did Y'all.
- 20:14Robin Arender: I am not a reader and when he sent me this book I was like, oh my goodness, I'm getting and I read it.
- 20:20Robin Arender: I read it in two days and it's his powerful story of you know.
- 20:24Robin Arender: A lot of times he kept getting knocked down, knocked down, but he had that faith in God and he just kept on moving and you know he has accomplished so much and the story inspired me that you know, if I lost every cent today, it would still be okay, as long as I trusted God.
- 20:43Ron Meyers: Well, you and I shared something you know the secret to everything in life it's not even a secret is that we just can't quit.
- 20:50Ron Meyers: We have to have faith in God, hold onto his hand and, through all those storms and all those trials and tribulations, just keep holding on, because he'll pull us through.
- 21:00Ron Meyers: You're stronger today because of the hell that you had in your life.
- 21:06Ron Meyers: You got the hell gone and now, as you said, you just want to talk about God all the time.
- 21:11Robin Arender: Yeah, that's what he's done to me.
- 21:14Robin Arender: You know, I've learned today to base things on facts, not feelings.
- 21:18Robin Arender: You know, when something arises, I have to get in the facts because those feelings will get in the way all the time.
- 21:24Ron Meyers: Well, before we go, would you pray for us, for the listeners out there.
- 21:30Robin Arender: Sure, I'd be glad to Our Heavenly Father we just come to you today, lord, and I just pray for anybody out there that's struggling.
- 21:39Robin Arender: Lord, you already know their needs.
- 21:42Robin Arender: You already know who they are.
- 21:44Robin Arender: You've got your arms just waiting for them, lord.
- 21:47Robin Arender: I just pray that they'll just make that simple step and come to you.
- 21:51Robin Arender: I pray for all the people who are hurting.
- 21:54Robin Arender: Lord, I know what it feels like, I know what it hurts, and I know what it feels like to be at the very bottom and to just feel like the worst person in the world.
- 22:04Robin Arender: I pray that, lord, that you will just lift them up, and I just thank you for doing that already.
- 22:10Robin Arender: Lord, in your precious name, we pray Amen.
- 22:14Ron Meyers: Amen, Robin.
- 22:14Ron Meyers: Hey, listen, if somebody wants to send you a thumbs up or just a message, they heard you Are you on social media.
- 22:22Robin Arender: I am on Facebook.
- 22:23Ron Meyers: Okay.
- 22:23Robin Arender: Robin Orender.
- 22:25Ron Meyers: And how do you spell that last name?
- 22:26Ron Meyers: A-r-e-n-d-e-r, r-n-d-r, r-n-d-r.
- 22:30Ron Meyers: Well, robin, good, I think somebody will reach out to you.
- 22:32Ron Meyers: You are a blessing and thank you for sharing your story, and you just got one of your prayers answered to talk about God through radio and podcasts that go all over the world.
- 22:47Ron Meyers: So, thank you.
- 22:48Ron Meyers: God is so pleased with you.
- 22:50Robin Arender: Thank you, I appreciate it.
- 22:52Robin Arender: I was a little nervous and I probably stuttered some words, but that's okay, it's not about me.
- 22:58Ron Meyers: But you know, the tagline for this show is real people, real stories, real struggles and real hope, and you just shared some real hope.
- 23:07Ron Meyers: Thank you, Robin.
