Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: This is Gal. I play guitars and vocals in a
- 0:04Speaker 1: band called Bahemouth. I have also another band, but I
- 0:08Speaker 1: think that's not that's none of your interest. Interested in
- 0:13Speaker 1: heavy fucking music. And Behemoth is heavy and it's extreme
- 0:17Speaker 1: and even radical it at times. And we're coming down
- 0:22Speaker 1: to Australia for I don't know which time now. I'm
- 0:27Speaker 1: guessing it's a sixth or maybe seventh tour, but I'm
- 0:30Speaker 1: probably wrong, you know, because we've been so fucking busy
- 0:33Speaker 1: with touring for fucking what thirty years now. But anyways, yeah,
- 0:40Speaker 1: I mean it all comes down to the fact that
- 0:42Speaker 1: we are coming down for four shows Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Melbourne is my favorite, but if you want to know,
- 0:51Speaker 1: but I love every spot there, you know. I mean, yeah,
- 0:55Speaker 1: We've been there so many times. We've made so many
- 0:58Speaker 1: friends throughout you know, throughout the way, and yeah, I
- 1:02Speaker 1: have nothing but the great memories from Australia. Yeah. See,
- 1:07Speaker 1: like what now, like all those tours, like well, it's
- 1:12Speaker 1: all rushing through my brain and like he just puts
- 1:15Speaker 1: like a big smile on my face, you know, because yeah,
- 1:18Speaker 1: it was awesome every time. It was fucking awesome fantascy man.
- 1:22Speaker 2: Well, thanks for joinings today, mate. I know it's early
- 1:24Speaker 2: over there, so I appreciate you getting out of bed.
- 1:29Speaker 1: No, I mean it's nine thirty am here and I'm
- 1:33Speaker 1: quite an early bird, you know for some time now.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I have my reasons now, personal reasons. I usually wake
- 1:39Speaker 1: up around six thirty seven, and that's good. You know,
- 1:44Speaker 1: I get my eighth to nine hours sleep, So I'm
- 1:49Speaker 1: well arrested, you know. So it wasn't he wasn't enforced.
- 1:56Speaker 2: As you say. My bab Behemoth returned to Australia next
- 1:58Speaker 2: February for the first time I'm in a couple of years.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Made for one of four dates, starting in Brisbane on
- 2:04Speaker 2: eight eight, before moving through Sydney and Melbourne and finishing
- 2:07Speaker 2: in Adelaide on February twenty second. You start before you've
- 2:10Speaker 2: been here a futures before, so you still get the
- 2:13Speaker 2: same excitement going back to a country for the fifth
- 2:15Speaker 2: sixth time, or does it start where.
- 2:18Speaker 1: You know, get a bit yes, because you never know.
- 2:22Speaker 1: I mean, I don't want to sound ragant here, you know,
- 2:25Speaker 1: like I don't want to say oh, I mean because
- 2:27Speaker 1: the fact is that from the first two that we
- 2:29Speaker 1: did in Australia. Every next one, you know, it just
- 2:33Speaker 1: grow by a few percent, you know, but like every
- 2:36Speaker 1: time it was bigger and bigger crowds. Right. We even
- 2:39Speaker 1: did some like big festival appearances. I believe Download was
- 2:44Speaker 1: one of those you know in soundwaves, I believe, or
- 2:46Speaker 1: like maybe the different name of the festival. So we
- 2:49Speaker 1: played in front of like really big crowds there as well.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Mostly you know, it's club club tours. But still you
- 2:59Speaker 1: never know, don't I mean, I don't want to I
- 3:01Speaker 1: don't want to be like, oh Behema is coming back.
- 3:04Speaker 1: You know, everyone is just fucking bowing, you know, And no, no,
- 3:08Speaker 1: you always have to earn that you have to work hard.
- 3:12Speaker 1: We have a new record it's called the Shit of God,
- 3:14Speaker 1: and I don't know how it's going, how it's doing
- 3:18Speaker 1: over there in Australia now. So it's always a test.
- 3:21Speaker 1: It's always a question of you know, how many people
- 3:23Speaker 1: would like to go and check it out again if
- 3:26Speaker 1: they've seen us before, and I hope they will, you know,
- 3:30Speaker 1: And how many of the newcomers are going to show up.
- 3:32Speaker 1: So it's it's always a question mark. You know. I
- 3:34Speaker 1: don't want to sound too you know, too full of
- 3:39Speaker 1: myself and like, oh you know what I mean, like
- 3:42Speaker 1: it's a royal return, you know. Behemen, No, No, we
- 3:46Speaker 1: we do work hard, we do care about it, you know,
- 3:49Speaker 1: and we would love to have the biggest run yet
- 3:54Speaker 1: in Australia, and you know there is potential to do that,
- 3:58Speaker 1: you know, obviously, you know, but if this will happen,
- 4:01Speaker 1: we can never know. What makes me excited about touring? Well,
- 4:10Speaker 1: I do leave this doctor Jackyl mister Hyde lifestyle really,
- 4:15Speaker 1: you know, because when I'm home, I'm quite a private
- 4:20Speaker 1: and very domestic person. I love my boring flat, you know,
- 4:27Speaker 1: routines through the day. I don't really do anything super
- 4:31Speaker 1: extravagant here, like avant gardish or whatever you call it.
- 4:34Speaker 1: You know. I have stopped using drugs and alcohol for
- 4:40Speaker 1: some time now, which makes my love life more boring,
- 4:46Speaker 1: you know. But it's boring does not mean it's not exciting.
- 4:50Speaker 1: I love. I find excitement in the you know, in
- 4:53Speaker 1: the routine, in this routine, you know. So it's it's
- 4:57Speaker 1: like that for months now. So by the time we
- 5:00Speaker 1: get on a plane and fly to Turkey, then Thailand,
- 5:03Speaker 1: then China, Japan and Australia, it's gonna be three months
- 5:09Speaker 1: gap between the tours that we do nothing. Really, we
- 5:13Speaker 1: don't tour, We don't go anywhere. Well, we do some
- 5:16Speaker 1: studio work and we do some maybe like you know,
- 5:19Speaker 1: refreshing some of the songs and do rehearsal, but basically
- 5:23Speaker 1: we focus on our daily lives, focus on our families
- 5:27Speaker 1: and do the boring stuff. I love doing that, you know,
- 5:31Speaker 1: but it's exactly opposite. It's it's, you know, the opposite
- 5:34Speaker 1: poll of what is happening in February, and when we
- 5:39Speaker 1: get there, we really build it up to this level
- 5:42Speaker 1: of excitement. So and then again, you know, there's I mean,
- 5:47Speaker 1: you can go wrong with Australia. I mean, I don't
- 5:49Speaker 1: want to sound like an ass leaker here, but there
- 5:53Speaker 1: are markets. I'm not gonna tell you which ones, you
- 5:57Speaker 1: know that you know we go and because we must go,
- 6:00Speaker 1: you know, just to make sure that you know, we
- 6:02Speaker 1: establish ourselves. We keep on, like we maintain establishing the band.
- 6:07Speaker 1: But I'm not that some of the markets are like
- 6:11Speaker 1: oh fuck again. But Australia is definitely not one of those.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Because I've mentioned earlier all the great experiences, all the friends,
- 6:20Speaker 1: you know, the beautiful weather, great food, are great vibes.
- 6:24Speaker 1: You know, it's so positive, it's so vital, you know,
- 6:26Speaker 1: it's and also like it is important for me. You know.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I live in Poland, so we have this you know,
- 6:34Speaker 1: autumn and winter and it's like fucking doom and gloomy winter. Now.
- 6:38Speaker 1: So by the time we you know, we hit Australia,
- 6:41Speaker 1: you know, I'll have enough of that, you know, changing
- 6:46Speaker 1: the hemisphere, you know, to all the sunny and beautiful weather.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Everything just makes me, you know, super fucking exciting and
- 6:55Speaker 1: stoked about the fact that we're returning there, you know.
- 6:59Speaker 1: And yeah, I don't know, I don't really do much
- 7:01Speaker 1: other than music. I do stuff other than music, you know,
- 7:04Speaker 1: but music is my has always been my passion from
- 7:07Speaker 1: play one. I formed my first band when I was
- 7:12Speaker 1: believe it or not, eight or nine. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 7:17Speaker 1: I had like I had like these garage bands, you know,
- 7:19Speaker 1: prior to Behemoth. And and I've never really had a
- 7:25Speaker 1: steady job in my life. You know, if you call
- 7:27Speaker 1: behem At a steady job, well there's a job, you know,
- 7:30Speaker 1: but but it's a job. But it's also not a job,
- 7:34Speaker 1: you know, it's it's it's always I've always been like that,
- 7:38Speaker 1: you know, the moment I bought my first electric guitar
- 7:41Speaker 1: at the age of eight and my first distortion pedal.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I've been making music, writing songs, writing lyrics, and starting
- 7:51Speaker 1: bands until I started behem At at the age of fifteen,
- 7:55Speaker 1: and I was it was my hobby, it was my passion.
- 7:58Speaker 1: And the years, you know, with all this passion and
- 8:01Speaker 1: all the hard work, you know, eventually someone started paying
- 8:05Speaker 1: me for the recordings or you know, and then someone
- 8:10Speaker 1: wanted to see my band live, you know, and we
- 8:12Speaker 1: went there. First few tours we did just for pizza
- 8:15Speaker 1: and beer, and I last thing on my head was like, oh,
- 8:20Speaker 1: there should be some financial gratitude. They're no. I was
- 8:23Speaker 1: just happy to be on stage until a certain point
- 8:27Speaker 1: where we're like, okay, get you get paid because you know,
- 8:31Speaker 1: you you made an effort coming from A to B,
- 8:33Speaker 1: you know, to perform for all these people, and like
- 8:36Speaker 1: and organically it became my profession. And I'm still here,
- 8:41Speaker 1: you know, like eight years old and I'm forty eight,
- 8:45Speaker 1: forty years later, I'm still doing the same thing, you know,
- 8:49Speaker 1: just the brother Yeah, just a bigger scale, just a
- 8:56Speaker 1: bit more professional, you know, a bit more experienced. You know,
- 8:59Speaker 1: I've seen more, I've done more, but but I'm still that,
- 9:03Speaker 1: you know dude, basically, you know, loving metal and loving
- 9:06Speaker 1: my fucking you know, heavy music, and I'm a big
- 9:10Speaker 1: fan myself, you know, so whenever I see people coming
- 9:14Speaker 1: to see us, I know how they feel because you know,
- 9:18Speaker 1: whenever it's Layer or now anymore. But still every then
- 9:22Speaker 1: again what may then or fucking you name it, fucking
- 9:27Speaker 1: I've just seen a terrorizer and possessed. You know, I
- 9:31Speaker 1: go into the crowd, I go in front, like front row.
- 9:35Speaker 1: I'm a fan, you know, so I'm the guy on stage.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I'm also the guy in front of the stage, you know,
- 9:41Speaker 1: depending on you know which which day it is, you know,
- 9:45Speaker 1: so I know how it feels. And I mean, yeah,
- 9:49Speaker 1: you know, we all age and you know we're crumbling,
- 9:53Speaker 1: we're you know, it's a download spider from now one obviously,
- 9:56Speaker 1: you know, I'm forty eight. I'll go for another thirty
- 9:59Speaker 1: years and then that's it, the end of the treat
- 10:01Speaker 1: But it doesn't really take away the optimism and excitement
- 10:07Speaker 1: about listening and playing heavy music.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Damn right, well, said brother Will said. Now the tour
- 10:14Speaker 2: also celebrates like the thirty years of metal dominance or
- 10:17Speaker 2: behamoth In an industry where longevity is bloody, art decided
- 10:20Speaker 2: the least mate. So do you ever take time to
- 10:23Speaker 2: reflect on your musical journey and what you've achieved?
- 10:26Speaker 1: Yes, yes, for a few years now. Yes. We can't
- 10:33Speaker 1: afford not to tour ourselves to death. That's what we
- 10:37Speaker 1: did up until I got seek. I went through chemotherapy.
- 10:42Speaker 1: I had cancer, like fourteen years ago or fifteen years
- 10:45Speaker 1: ago now, time flies, I don't know. Yeah, it was
- 10:48Speaker 1: probably around fifteen years ago. And we would steal, like,
- 10:52Speaker 1: work very hard and tour intensively, but not as much.
- 10:57Speaker 1: And I just finally started catching myself, you know, in
- 11:03Speaker 1: between the tours and just retrospecting and looking around and saying, okay,
- 11:07Speaker 1: where you are, what have you achieved? You know, how
- 11:11Speaker 1: much you enjoyed you know, zero to ten, how much
- 11:14Speaker 1: you enjoy where you are, what you're doing, you know
- 11:16Speaker 1: what I mean? Just reflecting and realizing who are you,
- 11:22Speaker 1: where are you and what you're doing in your life?
- 11:24Speaker 1: You know what I mean? And up until that point,
- 11:27Speaker 1: I was a fucking robot, you know, I mean, one
- 11:31Speaker 1: of our you know. I think I came up with
- 11:33Speaker 1: this slogan, resting is not for conquerors, and I would
- 11:38Speaker 1: just go by the slogan, you know, throughout the fucking
- 11:40Speaker 1: Demi Godeera, Apostasy, Evangelian until I got Cancert. But but hey,
- 11:49Speaker 1: I mean, that's how we build up, that's how we
- 11:51Speaker 1: went there. You know. Behemoth has never been an overnight sensation.
- 11:55Speaker 1: We've never been one of those bands that we just
- 11:57Speaker 1: released this album and it would just make us big.
- 12:02Speaker 1: Because you take ten Behemoth fans and you ask them, hey,
- 12:06Speaker 1: what's your favorite record you're going to Each one will
- 12:09Speaker 1: tell you a different album. Oh, the Shit of God, now,
- 12:11Speaker 1: the Satanist, no Grom, the second one, No Evangelian was
- 12:16Speaker 1: your peak, and they will fucking argue, and that is amazing.
- 12:22Speaker 1: While you talk to Metallica fans and they'll all say
- 12:27Speaker 1: Master of Puppets. Talk to Slayer fans, they'll all say
- 12:30Speaker 1: your Ranian blood and so on, you know what I mean.
- 12:35Speaker 1: When you talk to the side, they'll all say debut
- 12:38Speaker 1: or legion, you know, and we are very fortunate, you know.
- 12:41Speaker 1: And it's been a long I mean, it's been just
- 12:45Speaker 1: climbing up throughout decades until it's not thirty years Behemoth
- 12:49Speaker 1: that has been around for thirty four years. I don't know,
- 12:51Speaker 1: someone gave you like a wrong information. I am celebrating
- 12:55Speaker 1: Behemoth's debut record next summer with this project called Spent
- 13:01Speaker 1: a Bit, So this is not like a thirty year celebration.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Trying to take years off your life there, bro, I
- 13:06Speaker 2: was trying to do you a favor.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Yeah, but anyways, it's just yeah, just yeah. I think
- 13:13Speaker 1: I made my point here, you know.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Yeah, and for him, as they've always been known and
- 13:19Speaker 2: respected for your live shows, but how much have they
- 13:22Speaker 2: evolved over the years into the spectacle that we see today?
- 13:27Speaker 1: Quite much, quite much. I remember, yeah, just tell the
- 13:33Speaker 1: anecdote instead of you know, coming up with some theories here.
- 13:38Speaker 1: A few years ago I managed to It was right
- 13:40Speaker 1: before Pandemic. I managed to go backstage before Ramstein played
- 13:45Speaker 1: in Prague and I was introduced to Teal and he
- 13:48Speaker 1: was super cool and I started talking and I told
- 13:51Speaker 1: him I have a band and fucking and we invest
- 13:53Speaker 1: so much money in live shows, you know, and actually,
- 13:59Speaker 1: and it's always is like because the money you get
- 14:01Speaker 1: for the show, the fee is like it's your money.
- 14:06Speaker 1: So when if you're a fan of here, you go
- 14:08Speaker 1: to the show, you always keep in mind that whatever
- 14:11Speaker 1: you see there, it's bends money that how much they
- 14:15Speaker 1: decided to spend from their own cash to Okay, we
- 14:20Speaker 1: have Pyro, we have this, we have that, you know,
- 14:23Speaker 1: and no one gave, like it's not for free. It's
- 14:27Speaker 1: the bend that decides, okay, how much you know, this
- 14:30Speaker 1: much chunk you know, we can give to the invest
- 14:32Speaker 1: in the production. So I was kind of complaining to Teel.
- 14:36Speaker 1: I was like, man, fucking hell, you know, it's like
- 14:39Speaker 1: it feels like you know, you've been touring, touring, touring,
- 14:41Speaker 1: you know, and and we get paid for tours obviously,
- 14:44Speaker 1: you know, but we always I keep on investing. And
- 14:47Speaker 1: I remember he told me, you see that production today,
- 14:52Speaker 1: we need to tour this season and the next season
- 14:58Speaker 1: only to pay that production off. But and that's his words.
- 15:05Speaker 1: But it's worth. But it's worth because what people see
- 15:09Speaker 1: they will take with them, you know, and they'll just
- 15:11Speaker 1: cherished that for the rest of their lives. You know.
- 15:14Speaker 1: They won't just see you know, some dudes, you know,
- 15:17Speaker 1: wearing jeans and just getting sweaty and two fucking lamps
- 15:22Speaker 1: and you know what I mean, It's not it's not
- 15:24Speaker 1: it's fucking grand, it's it's massive, it's it's overwhelming. And
- 15:29Speaker 1: Ramstein has has always been like one of my top
- 15:33Speaker 1: favorite like life acts, you know, and I do look
- 15:36Speaker 1: up to them. Obviously, Australia is a limited market because
- 15:40Speaker 1: you have massive restrictions. You know, there's no way to
- 15:44Speaker 1: do we pull a fire there. Same with America. It's
- 15:47Speaker 1: not possible unless you are Ramstein and you have all
- 15:51Speaker 1: the money in the world to do that. We we cannot.
- 15:55Speaker 1: But of course we bring our sun guys, we bring
- 15:57Speaker 1: our light guys. We we build a stage like we
- 16:02Speaker 1: make the best out of what we can, you know,
- 16:04Speaker 1: and we do spend like every time we do get paid,
- 16:09Speaker 1: like every season we get more money for shows, and
- 16:13Speaker 1: that is amazing. But trust me, the first thing that
- 16:17Speaker 1: I have is like, oh shit, we got this much
- 16:20Speaker 1: from grasp Op or this much from Mystic Festival, And
- 16:23Speaker 1: like my first thought is always like how can we
- 16:26Speaker 1: spend it? What else we can add to the stage
- 16:30Speaker 1: that's gonna make people? Was wow, you know, because I'm
- 16:34Speaker 1: that kid watching Ramstein and I'm like Joe, like open
- 16:40Speaker 1: and like, fucking hell, how I can do that? Just
- 16:44Speaker 1: on my level? How I can replicate that how I
- 16:47Speaker 1: can what I can steal from that and just make
- 16:50Speaker 1: it with way smaller scale, but impress my crowds, you know,
- 16:56Speaker 1: And that's always been my agenda, That has always been
- 16:59Speaker 1: my fix. You know that I just don't want to
- 17:03Speaker 1: go there and just keep all the money. And just
- 17:05Speaker 1: like there's a lot of bands that just don't give
- 17:07Speaker 1: a fuck. They just go out there. You know, Oh,
- 17:09Speaker 1: we are a legacy band. You know, we're gonna play
- 17:11Speaker 1: this record and people will will have to be you know, fulfilled, satisfied. No, No,
- 17:17Speaker 1: I don't want to be that guy.
- 17:21Speaker 2: And further to that, Sam, I like your music is
- 17:26Speaker 2: is a product of your visuals just as much as
- 17:28Speaker 2: the need is of the songs. Like how difficult is
- 17:32Speaker 2: it to combined the vision in your head with the
- 17:35Speaker 2: music and the creative process?
- 17:39Speaker 1: Well that's a complex question, but then again, you know
- 17:43Speaker 1: it's it all happens organically. Building a record is really
- 17:50Speaker 1: like a putting a puzzle together. Or I don't know,
- 17:56Speaker 1: or a MA thesis was exactly the same ame thesis
- 17:59Speaker 1: I did Miami thesis fucking thirty years twenty years ago,
- 18:03Speaker 1: twenty five years ago or ages ago. Yeah, and just
- 18:09Speaker 1: putting together pieces, you know, like you never know if
- 18:12Speaker 1: it's gonna fit, you know, but you you put it together.
- 18:17Speaker 1: You know, you fuck around, you know, you try, You
- 18:20Speaker 1: make mistakes, you know, and like somehow, like the vision
- 18:23Speaker 1: and you know, the lyrical side, you know, and and
- 18:26Speaker 1: all the soundscapes and everything, you know, somehow organically comes
- 18:30Speaker 1: together sometimes, you know, I haven't, I don't know. Sometimes
- 18:34Speaker 1: the whole process starts with an album title. It did
- 18:37Speaker 1: happen before many times, and that would be like a
- 18:41Speaker 1: torch that would just give light to visuals all and
- 18:45Speaker 1: then things appear to me, you know what I mean,
- 18:48Speaker 1: or like themes or topics appear to me. Oh I
- 18:52Speaker 1: want to write about that because of the title. Sometimes
- 18:56Speaker 1: it starts, you know, the other way around. I have
- 18:58Speaker 1: this chord, I have this real or like a song finished,
- 19:01Speaker 1: and the song kind of sparks, you know, the ideas,
- 19:05Speaker 1: you know, and like, oh that I think that song
- 19:08Speaker 1: kind of make me think of pyramids, you know, like
- 19:13Speaker 1: or some fucking Babylonian times or you know when I mean,
- 19:18Speaker 1: I'm talking like cliches now, you know, but just just
- 19:21Speaker 1: to give you, like a picturesque idea how this may work,
- 19:25Speaker 1: you know, and and there is no formula. Really, there's
- 19:29Speaker 1: no formula. So for example, at this stage, now I'm
- 19:32Speaker 1: just I'm basically just fucking around with the guitar. And
- 19:36Speaker 1: I always make notes, so I don't know. I like,
- 19:41Speaker 1: two weeks ago, I went to the premiere of this
- 19:43Speaker 1: theater play and I remember because obviously you don't use
- 19:47Speaker 1: your you know, you don't check your iPhone, you know
- 19:51Speaker 1: when watching, like, but I must because there's always something
- 19:55Speaker 1: that I need to make notes because I hear a
- 19:58Speaker 1: verse or they said something. I'm like, fucking hell, I'm
- 20:01Speaker 1: stealing it. And I like, my gerfriend is sitting next
- 20:04Speaker 1: to me and I'm making notes and she's like, no,
- 20:06Speaker 1: you're misbehaving. Yeah, but if I don't write it down,
- 20:10Speaker 1: I will get it. Of course I will. So I'm
- 20:14Speaker 1: making nose there, you know, like and because I might
- 20:17Speaker 1: use it. And and I'm always like my rather, my
- 20:22Speaker 1: radar is always on because it's like this, because you
- 20:28Speaker 1: never know if you're gonna catch that wave that's gonna
- 20:33Speaker 1: make I don't know, like an album idea, or make
- 20:36Speaker 1: a title of a song, or make it an idea
- 20:39Speaker 1: for a video for a song, you know what I mean.
- 20:43Speaker 1: It was always like open head, like always, it never ends.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Really, the inspiration comes at the weirdest time's done it.
- 20:52Speaker 1: True, true, and you know what, Okay, it was few Yeah,
- 20:59Speaker 1: it was actually a few days ago. I was at
- 21:03Speaker 1: the gym and like when training out, when working out,
- 21:09Speaker 1: and it's probably because of the endoor fins and like
- 21:11Speaker 1: because I'm so pumped, you know, a lot of ideas
- 21:14Speaker 1: just struck my brain, you know, strike my brain. And
- 21:18Speaker 1: I remember I left the gym and I immediately called
- 21:22Speaker 1: my friend who's managing Demo Bordier, and I had some
- 21:25Speaker 1: of like creative ideas what we could do together, you know,
- 21:29Speaker 1: in order to promote the tour. But that that's that's it.
- 21:32Speaker 1: You know. I'm at the gym, I'm working out, like
- 21:34Speaker 1: lifting weights, running and stuff, and then I leave, you know,
- 21:38Speaker 1: and like and all of a sudden, I have the enlightenments,
- 21:41Speaker 1: you know, this Eureka effect, and I'm just man, just
- 21:45Speaker 1: an idea. I'm just throwing those ideas at you. Just
- 21:48Speaker 1: process that, see if we can do anything or blah
- 21:51Speaker 1: blah by by by by blah bye bye. Okay, I'm
- 21:53Speaker 1: going to talk to the band and that's it, you know.
- 21:55Speaker 1: And then I forget about it, you know, but it
- 21:58Speaker 1: kind of flew down on me and I need to
- 22:01Speaker 1: take it out of my system and eventually something's gonna
- 22:05Speaker 1: come out of it or not. But I must just
- 22:09Speaker 1: just clean my system off with all those ideas. You know.
- 22:12Speaker 1: It's like I metaphorically I like to call like creating,
- 22:19Speaker 1: you know, like defecating basically, you know, because it's something
- 22:23Speaker 1: I mean, you can hold it right because it'd be intoxicated.
- 22:26Speaker 1: You can hold it. You have to every morning, you
- 22:28Speaker 1: have to make a big jump, you know, otherwise you're
- 22:31Speaker 1: gonna choke on that and you don't want to do that.
- 22:34Speaker 1: So I mean, like, I know, it's a very picturesque
- 22:38Speaker 1: I like idea, and it's gonna make some people here,
- 22:42Speaker 1: But that's exactly That's exactly the same with the with
- 22:47Speaker 1: creators like myself, or songwriters or probably poets, and like
- 22:52Speaker 1: all kinds of creators out there, are all kinds of artists,
- 22:55Speaker 1: you know, they just can't hold it there. They must
- 22:58Speaker 1: make notes, they must create something. It's I don't know,
- 23:01Speaker 1: is this is this artistic creative ADHD that I have
- 23:05Speaker 1: and I can't fucking stop it. That's why I'm still
- 23:07Speaker 1: here now that's why I'm still talking to you, and
- 23:11Speaker 1: that's why you'll see me in two months fucking you know,
- 23:14Speaker 1: performing those ideas live for you.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Fantastic, fantasty. You mentioned the latest album this year of God,
- 23:22Speaker 2: there was your thirty eighth album, mate, Like, you've also
- 23:25Speaker 2: got other projects, eat, a lot of writing for so
- 23:27Speaker 2: do you think the more material you put out it
- 23:30Speaker 2: becomes easier or harder for you to come up with
- 23:33Speaker 2: something that sounds fresh and vibrant.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Obviously it's more and more demanding, more challenging, you know,
- 23:40Speaker 1: But then who we are to say that, you know,
- 23:43Speaker 1: just take Priests or Metallica. How much of a task
- 23:47Speaker 1: it is for those bands to come up with something
- 23:49Speaker 1: that's gonna be I mean, James Hatfield like like he's
- 23:54Speaker 1: like like openly talks about it. Now black record, black
- 23:57Speaker 1: album was that, you know, and then ever seen it's
- 24:00Speaker 1: a struggle and I've never been like entirely That's what
- 24:04Speaker 1: he said. I've never been entirely happy with what we do.
- 24:07Speaker 1: And he said that, you know, so trust me, it's
- 24:12Speaker 1: not an easy task and just take for intance Judas Priest.
- 24:17Speaker 1: But Judas Priest, you know, last record is fucking amazing.
- 24:20Speaker 1: The one before Firepower was fucking amazing. So like, I
- 24:24Speaker 1: look up to those bands and I'm like, you know what,
- 24:26Speaker 1: they still can do it. If they can do it,
- 24:29Speaker 1: I can do it. But it's not easy. It's far
- 24:32Speaker 1: from that. That's why sometimes I have to zero myself.
- 24:36Speaker 1: Like some people get it. Some people didn't get that.
- 24:41Speaker 1: You know, when I gave our latest record that title,
- 24:46Speaker 1: they were like, oh, the girl, you can do better
- 24:49Speaker 1: than this. No, I can do better. This is the
- 24:52Speaker 1: best I can give you. This is the best I
- 24:54Speaker 1: can give you. And if you don't have, if you
- 24:58Speaker 1: don't want to, like look into that and just see
- 25:01Speaker 1: there's it's not just a primitive slogan or like simple
- 25:06Speaker 1: or whatever it's it's it's something way more than just
- 25:09Speaker 1: provocative title. It's something way more than that. And you
- 25:13Speaker 1: just need to dig into that. You know, it's not
- 25:15Speaker 1: a stupid title. Just get the record, read the lyrics.
- 25:19Speaker 1: You know it's not a stupid title, and it makes sense.
- 25:23Speaker 1: You just need to make an effort as a fan
- 25:26Speaker 1: to digest that, to process that and eventually understand that.
- 25:31Speaker 1: You know, but it's up to you. I did my work,
- 25:35Speaker 1: now it's up to you and I know, it's a
- 25:38Speaker 1: challenging title and it's a challenging record. And it's not
- 25:42Speaker 1: like you know, some cheap like Satanic you know, chet
- 25:46Speaker 1: chats there never been. It's very challenging, very demanding album
- 25:50Speaker 1: with the title that you think that you may think, oh,
- 25:53Speaker 1: that's something wrong with those dudes. You know, they didn't
- 25:56Speaker 1: come up with something complex and philosophical. And it's more
- 26:01Speaker 1: philosophical than you think it is. And so yeah, but
- 26:07Speaker 1: but with this album title, I kind of zero myself,
- 26:12Speaker 1: you know, because I remember thinking, fucking hell, you know,
- 26:16Speaker 1: I mean, I I stole this Opus contraturam title from Yung,
- 26:22Speaker 1: you know, but who knows who Jung is, you know,
- 26:25Speaker 1: And then you know, I stole I Loved You from
- 26:28Speaker 1: your I loved you your talcus, you know, from the
- 26:30Speaker 1: Bible or it's like it's like a traversary but it's
- 26:34Speaker 1: you know, it's inspired by the Bible. And I thought
- 26:37Speaker 1: it's beautiful title. Yet people are bitching about it, you know,
- 26:41Speaker 1: but like I thought, there's so much depth there, you know,
- 26:44Speaker 1: and let me explain you. But they're like, you can't
- 26:48Speaker 1: top the Satanist. Satanist is like that kind of title
- 26:52Speaker 1: is one one in the world, one in a lifetime,
- 26:55Speaker 1: you know, and there's one Evangelian and one Apostasy and
- 27:00Speaker 1: and and you I mean trying to top that, you
- 27:05Speaker 1: will fail. You need you must do something completely opposite.
- 27:12Speaker 1: That's gonna just get people like of the Guard, you know,
- 27:15Speaker 1: like boom, and they're like, what the fuck is that?
- 27:19Speaker 1: And that's what the shit of God is. So now
- 27:22Speaker 1: when I zero myself, if you know what I'm trying
- 27:25Speaker 1: to explain, now I can again build something more way
- 27:30Speaker 1: more sophisticated and complex, and just to build the dynamics,
- 27:35Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Like if you if you
- 27:37Speaker 1: analyze Behemo's album titles look like the Satanist, then I
- 27:42Speaker 1: love you too, Darkness, something completely different, the dynamics, it
- 27:46Speaker 1: goes somewhere else. And then the Latin title that I
- 27:49Speaker 1: stole from Young Opus Contraatura, and then of God said,
- 27:52Speaker 1: it's like you have five album titles or four, Now
- 27:57Speaker 1: what's it for? Yeah, that are like completely different, you
- 28:00Speaker 1: know what I mean. And that's what makes it cool
- 28:03Speaker 1: at least for me, Like everyone is different. And I'm
- 28:07Speaker 1: not doing those two make you like them. I'm doing
- 28:11Speaker 1: those to fucking confuse you. That is my you know,
- 28:15Speaker 1: main goal to confuse the funk out of people, and
- 28:18Speaker 1: it's excited.
- 28:21Speaker 2: At the time you said that the album was released,
- 28:24Speaker 2: you said, the new era begins as we bleed for
- 28:27Speaker 2: this monumental labor. So what did you mean by the
- 28:30Speaker 2: new era.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Well, new cycle, I'd say new era, new cycle, new adventure,
- 28:38Speaker 1: and that's exactly what it is. Every album marks a
- 28:43Speaker 1: new era, so it's not just so it's not like, oh,
- 28:46Speaker 1: this is the new era, you know, It's like every
- 28:48Speaker 1: cycle is a new era. So basically it's just a nomenclature.
- 28:53Speaker 2: Okay, right now, I'm sorry brother. Well, I'm gonna feel
- 28:56Speaker 2: that we could shuttle night, but best by you guys,
- 28:58Speaker 2: but return to Australia for the Chance of Eastern Land
- 29:02Speaker 2: Stower in February twenty twenty six, with tickets available from
- 29:05Speaker 2: the Phoenix Dot Au. But I suggest if you want
- 29:08Speaker 2: to go along, you get yourself a ticket for Christmas
- 29:10Speaker 2: because these ones will sell out and I'll see you
- 29:12Speaker 2: in Brisbane, my friend.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Thank you so much. I'm super fucking still gonna happy
- 29:17Speaker 1: to come back. Good talk.
