- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to the Guitar Jet podcast, where you'll skyrocket your
- 0:03Speaker 1: knowledge of theory, techniques and fundamentals for guitar. Hey, I'm
- 0:09Speaker 1: Miles and today I'm going to be talking to you
- 0:11Speaker 1: about the four modal arpeggios on the guitar. And a
- 0:16Speaker 1: modal arpeggio is the arpeggio built from the root note
- 0:21Speaker 1: of a major scale mode. And there are four fundamental
- 0:25Speaker 1: modal arpeggios. Those are major seventh, dominant seventh, minor seventh,
- 0:30Speaker 1: and minor seventh.
- 0:31Speaker 2: Flat five. And before I move forward, you can use
- 0:34Speaker 2: the link in the description below to check out the
- 0:37Speaker 2: associated tab with this lesson. And the way that you
- 0:42Speaker 2: construct modal arpeggios is by stacking the root, third, fifth,
- 0:49Speaker 2: and seventh degrees from the root note of each mode.
- 0:54Speaker 2: So to get the major seventh arpeggio, you build it
- 0:57Speaker 2: from the root position of the Ionian and Lydian modes,
- 1:01Speaker 2: giving you one, three, five, and seven as your intervals.
- 1:04Speaker 2: To get the dominant seventh arpeggio, you build it from
- 1:07Speaker 2: the root position of the Mixolydian mode, giving you one, three, five,
- 1:11Speaker 2: and flat seven. To get the minor seventh arpeggio, you
- 1:17Speaker 2: build it from the root position of Dorian, Phrygian, and Aeolian,
- 1:21Speaker 2: and that gives you a root minor third, fifth, and
- 1:24Speaker 2: minor seventh, and last but not least, we have the
- 1:27Speaker 2: minor seventh flat five are peggio, which is built from
- 1:31Speaker 2: the root position of the Locrian mode, and that has
- 1:35Speaker 2: a root and then everything else is flat, flat three,
- 1:38Speaker 2: flat five, and flat seven, and that's it. That's how
- 1:41Speaker 2: I describe model arpeggios. Essentially, take a major scale mode
- 1:46Speaker 2: and stacked every other note from the root position of
- 1:50Speaker 2: that particular major scale mode until you have four notes
- 1:53Speaker 2: giving you the first, third, fifth, and seventh degrees of
- 1:58Speaker 2: that mode, and then you get at the model arpeggio.
- 2:02Speaker 2: And that's it for today's episode. Thank you so much
- 2:05Speaker 2: for listening, and I hope you have a fantastic day.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Rock on
