- 1:57Speaker 1: Well as your guys. The name of the pot I
- 2:00Speaker 1: do love that. It's just like it's right there. Dynasty
- 2:03Speaker 1: Baseball Pickups, You guys are some of the best in
- 2:08Speaker 1: the entire just fantasy baseball landscape of what I've listened
- 2:12Speaker 1: to and found online for just finding those nuggets in
- 2:15Speaker 1: your deep leagues to be able to add and let
- 2:18Speaker 1: those shares and those players mature and grow, and I
- 2:23Speaker 1: mean ever since you guys have been potting. We both
- 2:26Speaker 1: launched in summer twenty twenty three, so we both kind
- 2:29Speaker 1: of took off at the same time. You guys have
- 2:32Speaker 1: helped me tremendously in my keeper and Dynasty leagues that
- 2:35Speaker 1: like you've helped me find so many great gems Like
- 2:38Speaker 1: I think about to earlier this season when you were
- 2:41Speaker 1: one of the first people that I've heard of that
- 2:43Speaker 1: were in on Cam Schlittler and Treyye Savage and just
- 2:47Speaker 1: some of these other arms. Especially you guys are all
- 2:50Speaker 1: over it. And if you need details on anybody in
- 2:53Speaker 1: Complex League Ball or low A Ball and you need
- 2:56Speaker 1: some insights, you guys are my go to for a podcast,
- 2:59Speaker 1: So love having you on. Because of that twist on
- 3:02Speaker 1: reviewing prospects and Dynasty Baseball pickups, I figured it'd be
- 3:07Speaker 1: great to wrap up the Arizona Fall League with you both.
- 3:09Speaker 1: That's where Taylor and I met at First Pitch Arizona
- 3:14Speaker 1: out there last year and went back for the second
- 3:16Speaker 1: time this year and had a blast, And so I
- 3:19Speaker 1: figured with that there's been lots of stand up performances
- 3:22Speaker 1: in the Arizona Fall League that we can bring in
- 3:25Speaker 1: the gurus of Dynasty Baseball Pickups on so that you
- 3:28Speaker 1: can give some insights to the listeners of cards and
- 3:31Speaker 1: categories out there. So some initial thoughts here from you
- 3:34Speaker 1: guys in terms of the Arizona Fall League before we
- 3:37Speaker 1: get into the news and notes, what did you think
- 3:39Speaker 1: of this year's overall crop of players and anything that
- 3:44Speaker 1: really kind of stood out to you as you were
- 3:46Speaker 1: looking at the statistics and some of the performances that
- 3:50Speaker 1: happened out there overall this season compared to others.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess I'll go ahead. I you know, for me,
- 3:58Speaker 2: theirson a fall league can sometimes be a try. There's
- 4:01Speaker 2: always those guys, you know, like we've seen in past
- 4:03Speaker 2: years with Matt Murvis and Jacob Marcy, last year with
- 4:06Speaker 2: Caleb Durbin, that these guys get, you know, a lot
- 4:08Speaker 2: of hype in redraft leagues. I didn't really see that
- 4:13Speaker 2: same caliber of player this year. I think the the
- 4:16Speaker 2: best player and we'll I'm sure talk about him later
- 4:19Speaker 2: was the best prospect there and Kevin McGonagall, So that
- 4:22Speaker 2: wasn't really a surprise in what he did. So I
- 4:24Speaker 2: think it was kind of lacking from that really surprised,
- 4:28Speaker 2: big value boost prospect. But I think that's kind of
- 4:31Speaker 2: a good thing. There was a lot of really you know,
- 4:35Speaker 2: interesting prospects that performed well in the league, and so
- 4:38Speaker 2: you know that I think there wasn't a lot of
- 4:41Speaker 2: performances that I came away from and said, oh, that's
- 4:44Speaker 2: a complete mirage like that, you know, that's a trap
- 4:47Speaker 2: or anything like that.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I definitely agree with Taylor on that there there
- 4:52Speaker 3: wasn't that big kind of breakout that there has been
- 4:56Speaker 3: in the past, like he said, with a nervous or
- 4:57Speaker 3: a Marsie. There were some names I think that really
- 5:02Speaker 3: improve their value, and will maybe get into some of
- 5:05Speaker 3: those later on here, But for me, there were kind
- 5:07Speaker 3: of two camps in that regard this year where there
- 5:11Speaker 3: were the ones that I think you can buy into
- 5:13Speaker 3: a little bit, because in my opinion, the hype that
- 5:17Speaker 3: they're getting now, the rise that they saw through the
- 5:19Speaker 3: AFL was more to get them to kind of where
- 5:23Speaker 3: I thought they should have been previously, where people maybe
- 5:25Speaker 3: didn't recognize how good of a season they had in
- 5:28Speaker 3: twenty twenty five in the regular season. So I think
- 5:31Speaker 3: that there's that group that again is kind of just
- 5:33Speaker 3: now getting the recognition they probably deserved already. But then
- 5:37Speaker 3: there were a few names that while they weren't, you know,
- 5:41Speaker 3: the biggest risers of the AFL or the best performers,
- 5:45Speaker 3: there were still a few names that you saw get
- 5:48Speaker 3: a little bit more hype, largely due to velocity. Really,
- 5:52Speaker 3: it was a Tony Blanco junior who was just hitting
- 5:54Speaker 3: the snot out of the baseball every time you heard
- 5:56Speaker 3: his name, And it was the Luis Perals on the
- 5:58Speaker 3: pitching side who was touched triple digits every time you
- 6:01Speaker 3: touch the mound. And I think those guys are getting
- 6:03Speaker 3: a little bit of hype because of that. But for me,
- 6:05Speaker 3: those are players that are maybe becoming sell high candidates
- 6:09Speaker 3: because I think the hype that they're receiving right now
- 6:13Speaker 3: goes beyond where their actual value is. And if you
- 6:18Speaker 3: can take advantage of that after something like the AFL,
- 6:20Speaker 3: where those sorts of things are front and center because
- 6:23Speaker 3: it's the only baseball going on, this is the perfect
- 6:26Speaker 3: time to take advantage of that.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I think those are fantastic insights there. So, like
- 6:31Speaker 1: I said, we will get into more of the Arizona
- 6:34Speaker 1: Fall League here, but let's cover some news and notes first,
- 6:37Speaker 1: because we have had a few transactions as we've gotten
- 6:41Speaker 1: into the beginning of free agency, We've seen qualifying offers accepted.
- 6:45Speaker 1: We had four of those accepted. But I don't want
- 6:48Speaker 1: to get into those as much because I want to
- 6:50Speaker 1: focus our conversation on those prospects. But a couple of
- 6:53Speaker 1: these transactions that have happened recently I think are big
- 6:56Speaker 1: enough that I want to get both of your insights.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Is just premiere fantasy players to see what you're doing
- 7:02Speaker 1: with them. So the first one is Josh Naylor re
- 7:06Speaker 1: signing in Seattle. There and we don't exactly have the
- 7:10Speaker 1: full terms of the contract. We know it's a five
- 7:12Speaker 1: year contract. We do also know that the clubhouse dog
- 7:17Speaker 1: in Seattle helped secure this deal for the Mariners, as Honestly,
- 7:21Speaker 1: I think that's a pretty good representation of why Naylor's
- 7:24Speaker 1: Also going back as the vibes on that Seattle Mariners
- 7:27Speaker 1: club seemed immaculate down the stretch, and they've had a
- 7:31Speaker 1: sore need for a first baseman for a long time.
- 7:35Speaker 1: It feels like almost since like John Olivude, maybe that
- 7:39Speaker 1: the Mariners haven't been fielding a great first baseman. Coming
- 7:42Speaker 1: off of a stretch where Naylor hit two ninety nine,
- 7:45Speaker 1: three forty one, four ninety with them, put up nineteen
- 7:48Speaker 1: steals in fifty four games with the Mariners, and nine homers,
- 7:53Speaker 1: also did not seem phase by T Mobile Park. So, uh, Taylor,
- 7:58Speaker 1: let's get your take here first. For Josh Naylor going
- 8:01Speaker 1: to twenty twenty six, what does this do for his
- 8:04Speaker 1: value for you re signing in Seattle?
- 8:07Speaker 2: I mean, I think it's value steady, right. I mean,
- 8:10Speaker 2: I think, you know, he proved that he can perform,
- 8:13Speaker 2: like you said, like at T Mobile Park, which is
- 8:15Speaker 2: not an easy thing to do. I think when he
- 8:18Speaker 2: initially got traded over there, a lot of people, including myself,
- 8:21Speaker 2: for thinking that, you know, he was going to struggle
- 8:23Speaker 2: in that new ballpark and everything, and he did the opposite.
- 8:26Speaker 2: He had his best stretch with the Mariners there. I'm
- 8:30Speaker 2: really curious to see how much he runs next year
- 8:32Speaker 2: because that nineteen stolen bases is just insane. I don't
- 8:37Speaker 2: think we're gonna see, you know, him run to that extent,
- 8:39Speaker 2: but who knows. I think it's a good landing spot
- 8:41Speaker 2: for him. Obviously he's happy there, fantastic for the Mariners
- 8:45Speaker 2: and their fan base, so all the way around, it's
- 8:47Speaker 2: a good deal.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally agree, Kyle. I mean, what's your take here?
- 8:51Speaker 1: And maybe I'm going to put you against the fire
- 8:54Speaker 1: a little bit. Would you think the stolen bases settle
- 8:57Speaker 1: at for twenty twenty six. Like, when you're punching in
- 9:00Speaker 1: your projections for twenty twenty six, where are you setting
- 9:03Speaker 1: that level for Joshneeler Because it was a bit of
- 9:05Speaker 1: a blip, but it also worked.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Yeah, It's that's the big question mark with him, right
- 9:12Speaker 3: because you look at the Savant page and it's a
- 9:15Speaker 3: very small, dark blue bar for somebody that stole as
- 9:19Speaker 3: many bases as he did. And when you look at him,
- 9:22Speaker 3: he's not the kind of player that you think is
- 9:24Speaker 3: going to run wild like he did with the Mariners.
- 9:26Speaker 3: So I'm really curious to see if that's something that
- 9:30Speaker 3: they have just unlocked in his game and if he's
- 9:33Speaker 3: going to be able to continue that or if it
- 9:35Speaker 3: does fall off. I think it'll probably fall off a
- 9:38Speaker 3: little bit. I don't think he keeps up that pace
- 9:41Speaker 3: that he had to end the year with Seattle. But
- 9:44Speaker 3: even if he gives you, I think he might be
- 9:46Speaker 3: in that you know, twenty ish range kind of like
- 9:49Speaker 3: what he did with Seattle to end the year. I
- 9:51Speaker 3: think he might do that over the entire season. I
- 9:53Speaker 3: think you still have to be really happy about that.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Out of your first.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Basement, Yeah, I totally agree. I think that you get
- 10:01Speaker 1: from a stolen based perspective out of first space is
- 10:04Speaker 1: definitely gravy on top of it all. So yeah, I
- 10:07Speaker 1: think this is a great landing spot for Naylor. And
- 10:10Speaker 1: you did hint at it that the Savant page has
- 10:13Speaker 1: him on the third percentile for sprint speed, which is
- 10:15Speaker 1: a bummer. One of the tropes we have here on
- 10:17Speaker 1: this pod is how fast is somebody? Mainly driven by
- 10:22Speaker 1: Jake Berger because he used to run like a eightieth
- 10:24Speaker 1: percentile sprint speed. Our new patron saying of the pod
- 10:27Speaker 1: is now Shay Langlears, who I think is like eighty
- 10:30Speaker 1: fifth percentile. He's a speedy dude. So it's always a
- 10:34Speaker 1: bummer when you see these more robust players have these
- 10:41Speaker 1: very tiny sprint speeds because we like the combo of
- 10:44Speaker 1: the robust player, big sprint speed. Okay, let's get into
- 10:47Speaker 1: the next transaction where we've got two players swapping teams.
- 10:53Speaker 1: That's how a trade works. This one really lit Blue
- 10:58Speaker 1: Sky on fire in terms of the number of oakes,
- 11:00Speaker 1: the number of takes, and honestly, it feels like what
- 11:04Speaker 1: people feel about this trade is all over the place.
- 11:10Speaker 1: I am talking about angels and Orioles got together Grayson
- 11:13Speaker 1: Rodriguez for Taylor Ward straight up, so Taylor Ward will
- 11:17Speaker 1: be a free agent after the twenty twenty sixth season
- 11:20Speaker 1: and joins the other eight outfielders that the Baltimore Orioles have.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Grayson Rodriguez, who knows if he's got a working elbow.
- 11:28Speaker 1: The Angels took the gamble there, brought him across as
- 11:31Speaker 1: he did not pitch at all in twenty twenty five
- 11:33Speaker 1: and underwent an elbow de bridment surgery I believe late
- 11:38Speaker 1: in the season, so who knows what his ETA is?
- 11:41Speaker 1: And then you also throw in the factor of you know,
- 11:44Speaker 1: when I think of really first rate training staffs, Los
- 11:48Speaker 1: Angeles Angels is certainly one that pops right into my mind,
- 11:51Speaker 1: right of course. Not No, You've got Mike Trout there.
- 11:53Speaker 1: You've got all sorts of other issues that have happened
- 11:56Speaker 1: with the Angels. So I'm not even sure like who
- 12:00Speaker 1: won this trade. It's gonna take maybe a decade to
- 12:04Speaker 1: figure this out because of just how it all branches out.
- 12:06Speaker 1: But Kyle, let's go to you first this time. What
- 12:09Speaker 1: do you see in terms of does Taylor Ward carve
- 12:13Speaker 1: out enough playing space in Baltimore. Do you like that
- 12:16Speaker 1: landing spot for him? And then any chance we see
- 12:19Speaker 1: Grayson Rodriguez return to any sort of former glory with
- 12:22Speaker 1: the Angels.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Well, I'll start with Taylor Ward. I do think he
- 12:27Speaker 3: carves out regular playing time there in Baltimore. I don't
- 12:30Speaker 3: think you give up on somebody like Grayson Rodriguez, even
- 12:34Speaker 3: with all of the injury concerns. I don't think you
- 12:37Speaker 3: give up on him if you aren't getting back a
- 12:40Speaker 3: player that you think can play for you pretty much
- 12:43Speaker 3: every day. But you alluded to it like this trade
- 12:46Speaker 3: just makes no sense. They me and Taylor have been
- 12:49Speaker 3: talking about it. I went back and forth with a
- 12:50Speaker 3: bunch of people on X too. You said Blue Sky
- 12:53Speaker 3: was lit up X was the same way. I just
- 12:56Speaker 3: I don't get it. They traded from a from a
- 12:59Speaker 3: position of to get another player in a position of depth.
- 13:04Speaker 3: It's the exact opposite of how these deals should work,
- 13:07Speaker 3: and it just makes no sense. But I think it
- 13:10Speaker 3: speaks volumes to where Grayson Rodriguez is at. And if
- 13:15Speaker 3: you weren't concerned about him already, the fact that he
- 13:18Speaker 3: is now with the Angels to really concern you. I
- 13:22Speaker 3: do still think there's a chance that he is a
- 13:27Speaker 3: viable and semi valuable fantasy and dynasty asset, But I
- 13:34Speaker 3: don't think we are going to get anywhere near the
- 13:38Speaker 3: top end talent that we were once promised with him.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I'm with you on all those points, Taylor.
- 13:46Speaker 1: What's your take here? Is it similar to Kyle's or
- 13:49Speaker 1: I mean, this thing could go a million different ways
- 13:52Speaker 1: that I've seen some people who have been really high
- 13:54Speaker 1: on the Angels for picking up an arm like Grayson Rodriguez,
- 13:58Speaker 1: other people who have been really high on the Oils
- 14:01Speaker 1: finding a guy in ward who should be a mid
- 14:04Speaker 1: thirties homer bat. So where do you land? I'm with Kyle.
- 14:09Speaker 2: I think, you know, there's so many This trait is
- 14:11Speaker 2: so strange, and twenty four hours later, I still can't
- 14:14Speaker 2: really wrap my head around it because you look at
- 14:16Speaker 2: you know, the Oils acquiring a rental who's a corner
- 14:21Speaker 2: outfield bat. They have a crowded situation in their outfield.
- 14:26Speaker 2: They have a crowded situation at DH. I mean they've
- 14:28Speaker 2: got Colton Cows or Tyler O'Neil, Dylan Beavers that was
- 14:31Speaker 2: their outfield before this trade. Plus they added Heston Kershtad
- 14:34Speaker 2: and Enriqui, Bradfield Junior knocking on the door in the miners,
- 14:38Speaker 2: and you have a dh situation where you have to
- 14:40Speaker 2: get at bats for guys like Basio potentially Kobe Mayo. Like,
- 14:45Speaker 2: there's a lot of moving parts and that offense, and
- 14:48Speaker 2: they just added one more. They needed pitching, and you
- 14:52Speaker 2: know they need more pitching now. I think the only
- 14:55Speaker 2: way the Ools make this deal is if they're very
- 14:57Speaker 2: concerned about the medicals with Grayson, and you know that's
- 15:02Speaker 2: not a you know, novel take. I think everybody's thinking
- 15:06Speaker 2: that same thing. From the Angel's perspective, I like this
- 15:08Speaker 2: because they're cashing in a rental for a high upside
- 15:12Speaker 2: starting pitcher. Now, the Angels as an organization have a
- 15:15Speaker 2: terrible track record, like you mentioned Mike with injuries, they
- 15:18Speaker 2: have a terrible track record with pitching. I will say
- 15:20Speaker 2: they did hire Mike Maddox this year as their pitching coach.
- 15:23Speaker 2: He's a well respected coach, been in the league a
- 15:25Speaker 2: long time, coming over from the Rangers. So maybe they
- 15:29Speaker 2: make some changes there. I think it's a high upside
- 15:32Speaker 2: gamble by the Angels, but I have serious doubts that
- 15:36Speaker 2: he's gonna be healthy. And I think, you know, I
- 15:38Speaker 2: was talking to Kyle about this yesterday. I can't think
- 15:41Speaker 2: of another time where maybe a dynasty asset lost so
- 15:44Speaker 2: much value in a trade than this one with Grayson
- 15:47Speaker 2: Rodriguez because a lot of people were still high on him.
- 15:50Speaker 2: A lot of people were thinking, you know, he was
- 15:51Speaker 2: going to come back healthy, maybe eventually turn into the
- 15:54Speaker 2: ace or number two he was supposed to be. And
- 15:56Speaker 2: now I think you have to have serious concerns that
- 15:59Speaker 2: that's going to happen. So his values probably at an
- 16:01Speaker 2: all time low right now.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I agree there that like, there's no
- 16:06Speaker 1: way the Orioles make this trade knowing the medical history
- 16:09Speaker 1: of Grayson Rodriguez and what he could be, especially considering
- 16:12Speaker 1: how many years of control he has left, that this
- 16:16Speaker 1: is what they needed. They don't move this on from
- 16:18Speaker 1: him unless they knew this was the best they could
- 16:20Speaker 1: do in Taylor Ward. So I think one more thing
- 16:23Speaker 1: I want to discuss here is what are we doing
- 16:26Speaker 1: with this Baltimore outfield because their entire team is made
- 16:29Speaker 1: out of outfielders at this point that they've even got
- 16:32Speaker 1: Kobe Mayo, who probably should be an outfielder at first base.
- 16:36Speaker 1: They've got Colton Kowser, Dylan Beaver's Taylor Ward currently on
- 16:40Speaker 1: their outfield and roster resource. The entire bench is all
- 16:44Speaker 1: guys who've played the outfield between Ryan Mountcastle, who's more
- 16:48Speaker 1: of a first baseman now, Jeremiah Jackson, Tyler O'Neill later
- 16:52Speaker 1: Tavaris is in this team now too, So it's all outfielders.
- 16:56Speaker 1: Rip to any of the Enrique Bradfield junior shares out there,
- 16:59Speaker 1: because I don't see how he cracks this rotation of
- 17:03Speaker 1: players in twenty twenty six. But there's got to be
- 17:06Speaker 1: a trade coming, right Kyle.
- 17:09Speaker 3: That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't think they're done.
- 17:13Speaker 3: It's a really weird move to make as the first
- 17:16Speaker 3: of your off season, But like you said, like they
- 17:20Speaker 3: are just loaded in the outfield, it would be shocking
- 17:23Speaker 3: if they didn't trade some of that depth for shocking pitching.
- 17:28Speaker 3: They really need to go get some pitching more than
- 17:30Speaker 3: ever now. But like you said, there's got to be
- 17:32Speaker 3: another deal coming.
- 17:34Speaker 2: To play Devil's advocate there, Kyle, We've been saying that
- 17:37Speaker 2: for two years now.
- 17:38Speaker 1: So exactly, I mean, everybody has with the michae Elias
- 17:43Speaker 1: regime right that, like, does he finally pull that trigger?
- 17:47Speaker 1: I guess it is going to be the question of
- 17:49Speaker 1: the offseason. Taylor. I've got a different question for you, though.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Any of those outfielders that you still are into even
- 17:57Speaker 1: with the glutt because like, let's say that Elias does
- 18:01Speaker 1: Elias things here and keeps most of them where we
- 18:04Speaker 1: still got the log jam going into draft season next year,
- 18:08Speaker 1: any of those players in those outfielders from Baltimore really
- 18:12Speaker 1: stand out to you to where you're like, hey, I'm
- 18:15Speaker 1: still in on this guy because I think he will
- 18:17Speaker 1: rise to the top out of this group. Yeah.
- 18:20Speaker 2: I mean, I think if you can get any kind
- 18:21Speaker 2: of discount on Dylan Beavers, you should pursue it. I
- 18:24Speaker 2: think he's the one who I think will probably take
- 18:28Speaker 2: the biggest hitt and value because I think he's the
- 18:30Speaker 2: one that, when all is settled, is probably not going
- 18:32Speaker 2: to have the starting role just because he doesn't have
- 18:35Speaker 2: a huge track record, although he did perform, you know,
- 18:38Speaker 2: pretty good in his small sample last year. So I
- 18:41Speaker 2: think that's the one that I would be jumping in on.
- 18:43Speaker 2: I also see a situation where we see, you know,
- 18:46Speaker 2: something like what happened with Kyle Stowers in Heshton Kirshtad
- 18:49Speaker 2: and he him getting a new start somewhere else. That
- 18:52Speaker 2: would be something I would be interested in speculating on,
- 18:54Speaker 2: you know, as like a pickup on the wire, a
- 18:56Speaker 2: very cheap throw in, because you know, you never know,
- 19:00Speaker 2: oh Lanta change of scenery might help some of these
- 19:02Speaker 2: talented players.
- 19:04Speaker 1: I think that's a great call. This is a pro
- 19:06Speaker 1: Dylan Beaver's podcast. So you picked the right guy. Okay,
- 19:10Speaker 1: one more bit of news before we get into the
- 19:13Speaker 1: Arizona Fall League coverage. Right before this pod recorded, we
- 19:17Speaker 1: had Rys sol Iglesias re signing with the Braves for
- 19:20Speaker 1: one year, sixteen million dollars. This was the most obvious
- 19:24Speaker 1: landing spot for rysol Iglesias returning back to Atlanta, especially
- 19:28Speaker 1: given that there was no guy that really lined up
- 19:32Speaker 1: to be the next closer, and so they're gonna have
- 19:34Speaker 1: to go on the market. Why not go with the
- 19:36Speaker 1: one that you're familiar with if you weren't aware of it.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Twenty twenty five was a wacky season for ryiso Iglasias
- 19:44Speaker 1: because the first half era for forty two blue saves
- 19:48Speaker 1: left and right. When I was doing some of my
- 19:49Speaker 1: roda wire blurbs. I wrote so many rysol Iglacias blown
- 19:53Speaker 1: save blurbs because it seemed like he was doing it
- 19:55Speaker 1: once a week. Turns it around in the second half.
- 19:58Speaker 1: So it was thirty six and two th innings in
- 20:00Speaker 1: the first half, thirty and two thirds in the second half.
- 20:02Speaker 1: I'm using the All Star break because that's what Vangrafts uses.
- 20:06Speaker 1: One seventy six era in the second half and you're like, oh,
- 20:09Speaker 1: he's back on track. Everything's looking great, except for everything
- 20:13Speaker 1: on their hood is flip flopped in the first half.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Better k MISBB, better ground ball rate, better hard hit rate,
- 20:21Speaker 1: I believe too, But like everything looked better from a
- 20:26Speaker 1: pitching perspective for Rysolglacias in the first half. The luck
- 20:29Speaker 1: monster just kind of flipped on him because in the
- 20:31Speaker 1: second half, degradation of the k MISBB, degradation of the
- 20:36Speaker 1: ground ball rate, but got luckier with those babbit gods. So, Taylor,
- 20:41Speaker 1: I'm going to you first here, what are you making
- 20:44Speaker 1: of rysol Iglesias going into next year? Is he more
- 20:46Speaker 1: of that first half or second half player or is
- 20:50Speaker 1: it a kind of a classic case of where you
- 20:52Speaker 1: just got to take the whole season and go with
- 20:55Speaker 1: that going forward, as this is a guy who is
- 20:58Speaker 1: gonna be thirty six the spring, and you can take
- 21:02Speaker 1: the projections, set it and forget it.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's more of that that second one.
- 21:08Speaker 2: I had no idea that it was that wild. I
- 21:10Speaker 2: was looking at the Fangrafts page right now. Three sixteen
- 21:12Speaker 2: babbit the first half, one eighty one babbit the second half. So,
- 21:16Speaker 2: like you mentioned, the Babbitt gods were all over the
- 21:18Speaker 2: place with him. I think he's going to settle in
- 21:20Speaker 2: as a solid, not great reliever which will be locked
- 21:26Speaker 2: into a closer role, and I think that has a
- 21:28Speaker 2: lot of value in fantasy leagues obviously. So I think
- 21:32Speaker 2: right now he's just one of those closers that you know,
- 21:34Speaker 2: you're you're sure he's got a role, So I would
- 21:39Speaker 2: feel comfortable investing in him. I don't think he's done
- 21:42Speaker 2: as a reliever. I think he had some bumps in
- 21:44Speaker 2: the road, like we see a lot of relievers have.
- 21:45Speaker 2: He's old, but we've seen, you know, older relievers still
- 21:48Speaker 2: have success, So I would still be investing with in him.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Yeah, Kyle, what's your take here in ryso Iglesias, you
- 21:55Speaker 1: still feel comfortable with him or did any of the
- 21:57Speaker 1: performance from twenty twenty five skills you away?
- 22:01Speaker 3: No, I still feel pretty good about him. I think that,
- 22:05Speaker 3: like you said, it was a weird, weird year, but
- 22:07Speaker 3: when you look at his overall numbers and the expected numbers,
- 22:11Speaker 3: they're pretty much right in line with what he actually did.
- 22:15Speaker 3: So I think when you go into twenty twenty six,
- 22:18Speaker 3: I think you can take him pretty comfortably right around
- 22:21Speaker 3: where you would have taken him coming into twenty twenty
- 22:23Speaker 3: five and feel okay about that.
- 22:26Speaker 1: All right, Okay, Well, before we get into the years
- 22:30Speaker 1: n Afall League stuff, I guess I should have I
- 22:32Speaker 1: lied just a little bit ago. I've got one more
- 22:34Speaker 1: news item, just because if you are listening here for
- 22:37Speaker 1: the baseball cards, we're not going to get into it
- 22:39Speaker 1: too much in this podcast. We will certainly get back
- 22:42Speaker 1: into it when my fearless co host Jeremy Brewer returns
- 22:47Speaker 1: from Disney for next week. Look at that baseball card
- 22:51Speaker 1: calendar down in the show notes or wherever you're listening
- 22:53Speaker 1: to this podcast, because it has gotten re updated, reconfigured
- 22:58Speaker 1: from when we last put out a podcast. Everything's getting
- 23:01Speaker 1: lined up for the holiday release season, and Tops is
- 23:05Speaker 1: still sorting through the issues that have come through with
- 23:07Speaker 1: baseball and basketball cards being printed at the same time,
- 23:11Speaker 1: we've got a very stacked December. Is there's a lot
- 23:14Speaker 1: of product that Tops tries to get out the door.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Check that out in the show notes. If you're looking
- 23:18Speaker 1: for that baseball card calendar. I will be back next
- 23:21Speaker 1: week to talk about it more before Thanksgiving, just to
- 23:23Speaker 1: kind of give you background on where the calendar is going,
- 23:26Speaker 1: what products you should be looking at for any holiday purchases,
- 23:30Speaker 1: and so on and so forth. But with that, let's
- 23:32Speaker 1: get into those Arizona Fall League stats, because if you're
- 23:35Speaker 1: not aware, I guess I should probably explain this off
- 23:39Speaker 1: the bat, is that if you're not aware of what
- 23:40Speaker 1: the Arizona Fall League is, is a prospects league that
- 23:43Speaker 1: plays out in You've guessed at Arizona during the fall,
- 23:48Speaker 1: after the season, when the minor league season wraps up.
- 23:52Speaker 1: So really, what this is traditionally known as is more
- 23:55Speaker 1: of a finishing school. These are guys who are usually
- 23:58Speaker 1: kind of on the fringes of forty man rosters or
- 24:01Speaker 1: have Rule five decisions coming up for them, or prospects
- 24:04Speaker 1: who had a great season. They're just kind of going
- 24:06Speaker 1: to the Arizona Fall League to play against the best
- 24:08Speaker 1: of the best that have been sent out there to
- 24:11Speaker 1: see if they can hack it for twenty twenty six.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Just kind of allows teams to get further looks at
- 24:17Speaker 1: players and also in some cases they'll put players out
- 24:20Speaker 1: there and kind of show them off before trade season
- 24:24Speaker 1: hits for the offseason, and like I said, were some
- 24:26Speaker 1: of those Rule five and forty man crunch roster decisions.
- 24:30Speaker 1: So we just had the Arizona Fall League wrap up.
- 24:33Speaker 1: This past week, Taylor and I attended the home Run Derby,
- 24:36Speaker 1: which saw an absolute fireworks show from Tony Blanco. I'm
- 24:41Speaker 1: actually in the background of the MLB Instagram post for
- 24:45Speaker 1: it because I was in like the second row for
- 24:47Speaker 1: that home run derby. I just could not resist sitting
- 24:51Speaker 1: that close to Tony Blanco when he was hitting those
- 24:54Speaker 1: absolute piss missiles out of the stadium. It was something
- 24:58Speaker 1: I have never heard that was the loud just crack
- 25:00Speaker 1: of the bat and seeing those balls just like fly
- 25:03Speaker 1: off of his bat Appo tacos to like dead center,
- 25:07Speaker 1: just magnificent rainbows off of Tony Blanco's bat. Was that
- 25:12Speaker 1: one of the most impressive baseball feats you've ever seen
- 25:14Speaker 1: Taylor because it was for me.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, I mean I think that's what like
- 25:18Speaker 2: eighty great power looks like. It's just it's a different level.
- 25:22Speaker 2: I mean you could tell when he when he got
- 25:24Speaker 2: ahold of those balls. They were just flying and I
- 25:27Speaker 2: think he hit one. I think it was one hundred
- 25:29Speaker 2: and twenty two miles an hour or something like that
- 25:33Speaker 2: in that home run derby, which is just kind of
- 25:34Speaker 2: crazy because you think of like the speed at which
- 25:37Speaker 2: the pitch got to him. But yeah, it incredible, incredible
- 25:41Speaker 2: power on display. Whether he hits enough for that power
- 25:45Speaker 2: to matter in the real game, yeah, that's debatable.
- 25:49Speaker 1: Yeah exactly. I mean he's gonna look really great in
- 25:51Speaker 1: an MPB uniform that I mean he look out Murataki.
- 25:56Speaker 1: I always stumble over this on the pot. It's so embarrassing,
- 25:59Speaker 1: Murataka Murakami. Lookout for him for your home run record
- 26:03Speaker 1: in MPB, because Tony Blanco Junior is coming for you
- 26:06Speaker 1: when he makes his way overseas. Because I agree, I
- 26:09Speaker 1: don't see it working in the majors. It's just too
- 26:12Speaker 1: big of a swing, too much swing. And miss Kyle,
- 26:14Speaker 1: are you on the same page with us for Tony
- 26:16Speaker 1: Blanco because he was probably the talk of the years
- 26:18Speaker 1: in a fall league because that helped run derby performance
- 26:20Speaker 1: and the exit velos, but not probably a prospect your
- 26:25Speaker 1: rostering and dynasty. Correct.
- 26:27Speaker 3: No, I am one hundred percent there with you guys.
- 26:30Speaker 3: Like I said a little bit earlier, he's one of
- 26:32Speaker 3: my biggest cell candidates because of the hype he's gotten
- 26:36Speaker 3: off of the AFL. It might be the largest discrepancy
- 26:41Speaker 3: ever for a prospect between power and hit tool, Like
- 26:45Speaker 3: is this eighty grade power twenty grade hit could.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Be yeah, I mean yeah or lower. It does make
- 26:51Speaker 1: me pine for a home run derby only league, though,
- 26:55Speaker 1: because Tony Blanco Junior would be the king of that,
- 26:57Speaker 1: that's for sure. Okay, well, let's get into some of
- 27:00Speaker 1: these real prospects, because I figured what we'd do is
- 27:02Speaker 1: we'd run through some of the awards winners from the
- 27:05Speaker 1: Arizona Fall League. They hand out MVP, Offensive Player, Pitcher,
- 27:09Speaker 1: Breakout Player. They also hand out like a a Stewardship
- 27:13Speaker 1: Award and some other like really wacky awards. But We're
- 27:17Speaker 1: going to focus on the ones there performance based, and
- 27:19Speaker 1: then I'm going to pass it over to you guys
- 27:21Speaker 1: to get some other takes on three players a piece
- 27:24Speaker 1: that really stood out performance wise for you in this
- 27:27Speaker 1: Arizona Fall League in what you're doing with them in
- 27:29Speaker 1: dynasty and keeper situations out there. So let's start off
- 27:33Speaker 1: with the greatest and the best. The MVP of the
- 27:37Speaker 1: Arizona Fall League this year was none other than pretty
- 27:41Speaker 1: much number one prospect. It's between him and Connor Griffin
- 27:44Speaker 1: across the board. Kevin McGonagall, shortstop slash, probably third baseman
- 27:49Speaker 1: when he hits the MLB from the Detroit Tigers, lit
- 27:54Speaker 1: the league on fire. Led the league in total bases
- 27:57Speaker 1: by putting up a three sixty two five hundred slash
- 28:01Speaker 1: line with five homers, nineteen rbi and twenty two runs
- 28:05Speaker 1: and ninety played appearances. It was a fantastic performance from McGonagall,
- 28:10Speaker 1: exactly what you want to see from a super premier
- 28:13Speaker 1: prospect like this, to go to the Fall League and
- 28:16Speaker 1: just eat it up, alive, win the MVP, show that
- 28:18Speaker 1: he's rayed around the corner. So Kyle, let's start with
- 28:21Speaker 1: you here first. How far up your boards right now
- 28:26Speaker 1: is Kevin McGonagall in terms of dynasty rankings and is
- 28:30Speaker 1: it somebody where you Obviously he's going to cost you
- 28:34Speaker 1: a lot. He's rostered and every Dynasty league got there.
- 28:37Speaker 1: But do you like the situation in Detroit and do
- 28:40Speaker 1: you like the performance enough for McGonagall that you would
- 28:43Speaker 1: actually pay premium dollar for him this offseason to go
- 28:45Speaker 1: acquire him.
- 28:47Speaker 3: I love Kevin McGonagall. I'll preface it by saying that
- 28:51Speaker 3: I think that he's my number two prospect right now,
- 28:54Speaker 3: behind as you said, Connor Griffin. It's the argument there
- 28:57Speaker 3: of ceiling versus floor. Not that McGonagall doesn't have a
- 29:02Speaker 3: nice ceiling, it's just not quite where Connor Griffin is at.
- 29:05Speaker 3: He's got arguably the highest ceiling in all of the
- 29:08Speaker 3: minor leagues right now. But I think you know a
- 29:11Speaker 3: little bit more so what you are getting from Kevin McGonagall,
- 29:14Speaker 3: aside from the fact that you just don't really know
- 29:17Speaker 3: what position he's going to play, and that in all
- 29:21Speaker 3: honesty isn't necessarily a bad thing, because we know that
- 29:24Speaker 3: he's got the bat, So the likelihood that he moves
- 29:28Speaker 3: off of shortstop, if anything, is maybe a good thing
- 29:31Speaker 3: because his bat, the power that he can provide, just
- 29:35Speaker 3: the overall skill set that he has is going to
- 29:37Speaker 3: be even more valuable at a second base or a
- 29:40Speaker 3: third base, depending on where he moves, then it would
- 29:43Speaker 3: have been at shortstop because this is the type of
- 29:44Speaker 3: skill set we typically see at shortstop, right that well
- 29:48Speaker 3: rounded profile. He's going to hit you some home runs,
- 29:50Speaker 3: he's going to steal some bases, he's going to have
- 29:51Speaker 3: a really nice slash line. If you can get a
- 29:56Speaker 3: strong shortstop type of offensive profile at one of those
- 30:00Speaker 3: other positions, it is a really nice boost to your
- 30:05Speaker 3: team because you're getting him in at another position where
- 30:10Speaker 3: again you're probably not getting that much. You look at
- 30:12Speaker 3: the dynasty landscape at second base or at third base,
- 30:15Speaker 3: it's pretty ugly right now. And you look at the
- 30:18Speaker 3: prospect situation at those positions especially, it's really ugly. Taylor
- 30:23Speaker 3: and I are starting to prep for some of our
- 30:24Speaker 3: positional breakdowns at some of this stuff, and those positions
- 30:28Speaker 3: just look horrible right now. I'm not going to sugarcoat
- 30:31Speaker 3: it at all. They do not look good. So I
- 30:35Speaker 3: do have a hard time really going in and buying
- 30:39Speaker 3: a prospect like this before they've debuted, because you just
- 30:43Speaker 3: don't know what's going to happen. You look at somebody
- 30:46Speaker 3: like a Christian Campbell last year, right everybody was super
- 30:49Speaker 3: excited to see his debut. He got up there and
- 30:52Speaker 3: he looked amazing, but then the league kind of figured
- 30:55Speaker 3: him out. Maybe there was some other stuff going on
- 30:58Speaker 3: from reports I've heard, he lost some weights that kind
- 31:02Speaker 3: of affected the way he was able to impact the ball.
- 31:04Speaker 3: But point being, you never really know what you've gotten
- 31:07Speaker 3: a prospect until they are in the big league. So
- 31:09Speaker 3: if you are going to go all in and buy
- 31:12Speaker 3: a prospect, you're probably looking at someone like the Kevin McGonagall,
- 31:16Speaker 3: who has a nice ceiling, but has a much safer
- 31:19Speaker 3: floor than a lot of other players with the type
- 31:21Speaker 3: of ceiling that he can provide. I'm just not sure
- 31:24Speaker 3: that I am willing to pay the premium price that
- 31:27Speaker 3: you would need to because of the risk involved anytime
- 31:30Speaker 3: we're talking about.
- 31:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's totally fair. Taylor. What's your take
- 31:34Speaker 1: on Kevin McGonagall.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I agree with pretty much everything Kyle said.
- 31:38Speaker 2: I will say, like I was a little bit slow
- 31:40Speaker 2: to buy into Kevin McGonagall. I was always the lowest
- 31:43Speaker 2: ranker on him at Prospects Live, which Kyle and I
- 31:46Speaker 2: write for. So I've come around. He's my number two
- 31:49Speaker 2: rank prospect at this point. But to Kyle's point, like
- 31:53Speaker 2: now is not the time to buy him. You had
- 31:56Speaker 2: ample opportunities in Dynasty League. If you don't have him
- 31:59Speaker 2: by now, you wait till he makes his debut. Inevitably,
- 32:03Speaker 2: most rookies will struggle, Like Kevin McGonagall kind of fits
- 32:06Speaker 2: in that same mold to me as like a Jackson Holiday, right,
- 32:09Speaker 2: that guy kind of known for being a high floor,
- 32:13Speaker 2: good all round player. We saw Jackson Holiday go through
- 32:18Speaker 2: his struggles and you know, still hasn't reached his ceilings.
- 32:21Speaker 2: So you know, I think there's a similar path for
- 32:25Speaker 2: Kevin mcgonagh. I'm not saying that he won't hit the
- 32:27Speaker 2: ground running.
- 32:28Speaker 3: He very well could.
- 32:29Speaker 2: But a lot of prospects, you know, more often than not,
- 32:33Speaker 2: will fail in their first look at the bigs and
- 32:35Speaker 2: their value will take a hit in Dynasty League. So
- 32:37Speaker 2: that's that's the time to trade, not not right now.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's all fair. Okay, let's move
- 32:43Speaker 1: on to even though McGonagall won the MVP, he did
- 32:47Speaker 1: not win the Offensive Player. I mean, I think they
- 32:49Speaker 1: also split this so that they can have different players
- 32:52Speaker 1: called out. But this guy was also fantastic in the
- 32:56Speaker 1: home run Derby went into the finals with Tony Blanco
- 32:59Speaker 1: as Merlin Valdez, also from the Pittsburgh Pirates, And I mean,
- 33:03Speaker 1: if there was anybody who was probably with McGonagall in
- 33:06Speaker 1: the discussion for the MVP, it was certainly Valdez. He
- 33:10Speaker 1: mashed in the Arizona Fall League over eighty played appearances,
- 33:14Speaker 1: hit eight homers, twenty seven rbi, A three sixty eight
- 33:17Speaker 1: five thirteen eight forty two slash line while he was
- 33:21Speaker 1: out there. And this is also capping a fantastic breakout
- 33:25Speaker 1: year for Valdez, as in twenty twenty five, played across
- 33:29Speaker 1: two levels High A and Double A, hit twenty six homers,
- 33:34Speaker 1: seventy five seventy five runs, scored eighty six rbi over
- 33:38Speaker 1: one hundred and twenty three games, slash two eighty six, three,
- 33:41Speaker 1: seventy six, five, twenty. So this dude is a slugger.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Valdez is and the Pittsburgh Pirates don't have a great
- 33:50Speaker 1: roster and so I'm almost like, I'm wondering when he
- 33:53Speaker 1: might debut, if it is in twenty twenty six, and
- 33:56Speaker 1: just given this breakout performance for Valdez throughout the year,
- 34:00Speaker 1: I'm curious in your guys' take of what you're doing
- 34:03Speaker 1: with him in Dynasty because he is certainly shooting up
- 34:07Speaker 1: boards and are you a part of that ride? So Taylor,
- 34:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna start with you here. What is your take
- 34:12Speaker 1: on Esmerlin valde Valdez. What are you doing with him
- 34:15Speaker 1: this offseason? And rounding into twenty twenty six.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Yeah, I like as Merlin Valdez a lot. I wrote
- 34:21Speaker 2: him up last year and while I was doing research
- 34:23Speaker 2: for him, I was searching through X for highlights, and
- 34:25Speaker 2: I noticed that every time there's a tweet about him,
- 34:29Speaker 2: he will repost it with emojis. So he just got added,
- 34:33Speaker 2: I believe, to the forty man roster, and his tweet
- 34:37Speaker 2: about it was pirate flag, pirate Flag, pirate flag.
- 34:40Speaker 1: LG Flame Flame. So like, he's just a fun dude.
- 34:44Speaker 2: And if you watch, I mean you probably saw this
- 34:46Speaker 2: at the home run derby, he was cheering the loudest
- 34:49Speaker 2: of any of the players when Tony Blanco won, you know,
- 34:51Speaker 2: his org mate. The first thing he did was run
- 34:54Speaker 2: up and hug him, and like he was cheering for
- 34:56Speaker 2: Tony harder than I think he was cheering for himself.
- 34:59Speaker 2: So just seems like a really, really good dude. I'm
- 35:02Speaker 2: really rooting for him. I think what he's done on
- 35:05Speaker 2: the field has been extremely interesting. You know, two straight
- 35:09Speaker 2: years with twenty plus home runs, two straight years with
- 35:12Speaker 2: an ISO over two thirty. His contact rate, his swinging
- 35:15Speaker 2: strike rate have improved every year since twenty twenty one.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Now they're still below average. He's still defensively limited to
- 35:21Speaker 2: first and corner outfield. But I think this is sort
- 35:24Speaker 2: of like, if you're going to invest in that corner profile,
- 35:27Speaker 2: this is a guy who's worth investing.
- 35:29Speaker 3: In.
- 35:30Speaker 2: Our last Prospects Live Dynasty rankings for Prospects, we had
- 35:35Speaker 2: him ranked at one thirty five, which I think kind
- 35:37Speaker 2: of shows you he's a little bit outside the top
- 35:39Speaker 2: one hundred. Maybe with the performance in the Fall League,
- 35:42Speaker 2: you can bump him up closer to that top one
- 35:44Speaker 2: hundred or maybe even in it, but I wouldn't go
- 35:46Speaker 2: too much higher because again, that defensive limitation, some of
- 35:49Speaker 2: the contact concerns, there's still a lot of question marks
- 35:52Speaker 2: going forward. But I'm definitely rooting for him.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's a great take. Kyle, what's
- 35:56Speaker 1: your take on Valdez.
- 35:58Speaker 3: I'm right there with Taylor. I kind of mentioned earlier
- 36:01Speaker 3: there are some prospects who are rising from their AFL
- 36:05Speaker 3: performance that I think are rising to where they maybe
- 36:07Speaker 3: should have been beforehand. And I think fel Dez is
- 36:09Speaker 3: one of those guys. And a big reason why is
- 36:11Speaker 3: when he got moved up to double A. And I
- 36:14Speaker 3: was part of this myself, because when he got moved
- 36:16Speaker 3: up to double A, he really struggled for a stretch.
- 36:19Speaker 3: He just he couldn't put that on ball, He couldn't
- 36:22Speaker 3: put the ball in play. He had a rough go
- 36:24Speaker 3: of it. But he turned things around and basically ended
- 36:27Speaker 3: the year with super consistent numbers across both levels. And
- 36:31Speaker 3: I'm just not sure that some people kind of readjusted
- 36:35Speaker 3: after he corrected things in double A, and I think
- 36:38Speaker 3: with his performance in the AFL, it's brought people back
- 36:41Speaker 3: around to where they should have been to the start
- 36:46Speaker 3: of the AFL. When he did end the regular season
- 36:49Speaker 3: on such a strong note, I have him basically right
- 36:52Speaker 3: where Taylor is saying he's my number ninety nine. I
- 36:54Speaker 3: think right inside the top one hundred. If you look
- 36:58Speaker 3: at the power pat here, that alone says he should
- 37:01Speaker 3: maybe go higher. But for all the reasons Taylor said,
- 37:04Speaker 3: as far as some of those limitations that he does have.
- 37:06Speaker 3: I think we have to look at him as kind
- 37:09Speaker 3: of that back end top one hundred name with potential
- 37:12Speaker 3: to rise if he continues to show growth in the
- 37:15Speaker 3: hit tool that Taylor said he has been showing year
- 37:18Speaker 3: over year.
- 37:20Speaker 1: All right, Yeah, I'm right there with you guys that
- 37:23Speaker 1: I love this profile for Feltz and I'm really excited
- 37:27Speaker 1: to see what he can do going for it. I
- 37:29Speaker 1: hope he gets a shot in Pittsburgh this year because
- 37:31Speaker 1: he's exactly kind of like the spark plug player that
- 37:34Speaker 1: just MLB in general needs, not let alone the Pirates
- 37:37Speaker 1: that I hope he's got a bright future in big
- 37:40Speaker 1: career ahead of him. All right, let's move to the
- 37:43Speaker 1: mound a little bit. As the picture of the year
- 37:47Speaker 1: in the Arizona Fall League was James Hicks of the
- 37:50Speaker 1: Houston Astros system, and it was quite the performance. Fourteen
- 37:54Speaker 1: shoutout innings with a twelve point two K nine that
- 37:58Speaker 1: was nineteen strikeouts to two walks, one hit by pitch,
- 38:03Speaker 1: a point five to seven whip. Just a great performance
- 38:06Speaker 1: for this arm. That was a thirteenth round pick out
- 38:10Speaker 1: of South Carolina for the Astros back in twenty twenty three.
- 38:14Speaker 1: Was struggling with injury to start the season, and so
- 38:17Speaker 1: that's really why he went to the Arizona Fall League
- 38:20Speaker 1: was to stretch out further. But at double A this
- 38:22Speaker 1: year is a five P fifty nine era A four
- 38:24Speaker 1: to fifty two whip with an eight point nine K
- 38:27Speaker 1: nine over forty six and two thirds innings. So, Kyle,
- 38:30Speaker 1: I'm gonna start with you here, Hicks isn't really on
- 38:33Speaker 1: too many kind of dynasty prospect radars, especially given it's
- 38:37Speaker 1: a little bit of like a funky arm slot I
- 38:39Speaker 1: think for this game cock and not exactly the cream
- 38:44Speaker 1: of the crop coming out of the thirteenth round. So
- 38:47Speaker 1: anything that you saw on this performance or is it
- 38:49Speaker 1: too small of a sample size in the Arizona Fall
- 38:51Speaker 1: League to move a pitcher performance up or down like this?
- 38:55Speaker 3: Yeah? I Taylor and I talk about it every time
- 38:58Speaker 3: we talk about the AFL. We have to look at
- 39:01Speaker 3: these stats with a grain of salt, regardless of which
- 39:04Speaker 3: side of the ball we're talking about, but specifically when
- 39:06Speaker 3: we're talking about pitching, there are so few innings thrown
- 39:10Speaker 3: for all these guys. One good or bad outing can
- 39:14Speaker 3: swing the numbers so far one way or the other
- 39:17Speaker 3: that there's just not a whole lot that can be
- 39:19Speaker 3: taken from this. And like you said, this is a
- 39:21Speaker 3: bit of a funky arm slot. It's not your traditional
- 39:26Speaker 3: high upside prospect. You look at the profile on fangrafs.
- 39:31Speaker 3: He's got one pitch that grades as average or better
- 39:35Speaker 3: right now, and it's a slider. He's supposedly got really
- 39:39Speaker 3: good command, but kind of walks that well. I shouldn't
- 39:42Speaker 3: say he's got supposedly good command. He's got good command.
- 39:45Speaker 3: He doesn't walk a ton of guys. In my opinion, though,
- 39:47Speaker 3: this is probably just a reliever. And when you look
- 39:50Speaker 3: at his twenty twenty four season, half of his appearances
- 39:53Speaker 3: in the minor leagues were as a reliever. He came
- 39:56Speaker 3: out of the bullpen be in twelve out of his
- 39:58Speaker 3: twenty five games, sorry, thirteen out of his twenty five games.
- 40:02Speaker 3: So I think every year we get some interesting performances
- 40:06Speaker 3: on the pitching side of things in the AFL, but
- 40:09Speaker 3: even more so than the hitting side of things. I
- 40:12Speaker 3: just don't think there's much we can take from the
- 40:15Speaker 3: AFL performances of these arms.
- 40:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's fair, and I think so what's
- 40:20Speaker 1: great about the AFL this year is Prospects Savant run
- 40:24Speaker 1: by Duke Hill, who we saw out at first pitch Arizona.
- 40:28Speaker 1: Has all of the stats, all of the actual kind
- 40:31Speaker 1: of like metrics that you're looking for from traditional Baseball Savant,
- 40:35Speaker 1: but with all the performances here in the AFL, he's
- 40:39Speaker 1: got his own rating for a stuff plus that kind
- 40:42Speaker 1: of mimics you know, Sarrus's stuff plus. And none of
- 40:45Speaker 1: the pitches from Hicks is one hundred or above. The
- 40:48Speaker 1: best has actually changed at ninety six and actually doesn't
- 40:51Speaker 1: say he has a slider. But I talked to Duke
- 40:53Speaker 1: about this. A lot of sliders and curves get like missed, mixed,
- 40:57Speaker 1: messed up in the system. And so it's that his curve,
- 41:02Speaker 1: Oh I actually should have just scrolled. He just wasn't
- 41:04Speaker 1: throwing a slider very much. It was a ninety two
- 41:06Speaker 1: on the rating, curve was a ninety four, So maybe
- 41:09Speaker 1: he was even trying new stuff out in the AFL
- 41:11Speaker 1: here for Hicks Taylor, Any different thoughts here on Hicks
- 41:15Speaker 1: or is this somebody where the performance and as I
- 41:18Speaker 1: just discovered, the pitch mix was a little different you
- 41:21Speaker 1: might be buying in No.
- 41:23Speaker 2: I think it's like you guys said, I mean, he's
- 41:25Speaker 2: twenty four years old, doesn't have great stuff, you know,
- 41:28Speaker 2: missed most of the year with injury, and then when
- 41:29Speaker 2: he was on the field didn't pitch well. I think
- 41:32Speaker 2: this is a back of rotation arm at best. And yeah,
- 41:36Speaker 2: he's not one that should be rostered outside of like
- 41:38Speaker 2: the deepest dynasty leagues.
- 41:40Speaker 1: Okay, I think that's fair. All right, let's move on
- 41:43Speaker 1: to one last award before we get into some of
- 41:45Speaker 1: your favorite picks. The breakout player of the Ares of
- 41:48Speaker 1: the Fall League this year was catcher Slash first baseman
- 41:52Speaker 1: from the Chicago Cubs. Owen ayers he is a twenty
- 41:55Speaker 1: four year old switch hitter who was in A ball
- 41:58Speaker 1: this year after being there in twenty twenty four, a
- 42:02Speaker 1: nineteenth round pick in twenty twenty four out of Marshall
- 42:05Speaker 1: So very small school. But a lot of the reports
- 42:09Speaker 1: that I've been reading about him from this AFL and
- 42:12Speaker 1: from the season have been relatively glowing, and he was
- 42:15Speaker 1: a it was a so so year, I would say
- 42:18Speaker 1: for him in a ball as a twenty four year
- 42:20Speaker 1: old two thirty eight three forty one four twenty slash line,
- 42:23Speaker 1: that's a one to twenty six WRC plus six homers,
- 42:26Speaker 1: seven stolen bases. In the Arizona Fall League, he slashed
- 42:30Speaker 1: three seventy nine five point thirty nine five ninety one
- 42:34Speaker 1: with three homers and sixteen RBI in eighty nine played appearances. So, uh, Taylor,
- 42:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna start with you this time. What are your
- 42:42Speaker 1: thoughts here on Owen airs? Is this a season where
- 42:45Speaker 1: you are you see a breakout coming or is this
- 42:49Speaker 1: a guy who you think is maybe a little bit
- 42:52Speaker 1: old for his competition and is taking advantage of it.
- 42:55Speaker 2: I mean, he's definitely a little older, But I think
- 42:58Speaker 2: what you can't thake is what he did on the
- 43:01Speaker 2: stat cast side. You mentioned the prospects of leaderboards for
- 43:06Speaker 2: the AFL. I mean, he put up really nice numbers
- 43:10Speaker 2: in terms of ex velocity top ten an average EV
- 43:12Speaker 2: at ninety four miles an hour, one ten point six
- 43:15Speaker 2: max is respectable, very good. So I think that combination
- 43:19Speaker 2: shows that there's there's some legit power there. We need
- 43:23Speaker 2: to see him against more advanced competition before we can
- 43:25Speaker 2: boost him up too much. I think this again, is
- 43:27Speaker 2: a guy who probably doesn't need to be you know,
- 43:30Speaker 2: rushed out and rostered. You don't need to pick him
- 43:32Speaker 2: up in your FIP or anything. But he's definitely now
- 43:34Speaker 2: a name that should be on radars and watch lists
- 43:37Speaker 2: to see, you know, what he can do this next season.
- 43:40Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's all fair. Kyle. What's your
- 43:43Speaker 1: take here on Owen airs from the Cubs?
- 43:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Taylor nailed it. This is a player
- 43:47Speaker 3: who has kind of put himself on the fantasy radar,
- 43:51Speaker 3: but isn't somebody that you need to rush out and
- 43:53Speaker 3: go add right now. He's somebody that probably put on
- 43:57Speaker 3: your watch list and you should see what twenty two
- 44:00Speaker 3: twenty six looks like. Hopefully we get to see him
- 44:02Speaker 3: against more age appropriate competition because he will be, you know,
- 44:07Speaker 3: twenty five years old. I believe early in the season
- 44:12Speaker 3: he turns twenty five, So hopefully we see him not
- 44:15Speaker 3: only start the year in HIA, but progress to at
- 44:18Speaker 3: least double A and get a better idea of what
- 44:20Speaker 3: he looks like against more age appropriate competition. But he's
- 44:23Speaker 3: definitely somebody who needs to be paid attention to. He
- 44:28Speaker 3: doesn't need to be added, but you need to be
- 44:30Speaker 3: aware of Owen ayers.
- 44:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally agree. So yeah, I also wasn't aware
- 44:36Speaker 1: of how I read that prospects of vant Page was
- 44:38Speaker 1: until you call the doubt, Taylor, and it is. It's good,
- 44:40Speaker 1: but it is a great environment to hit it in
- 44:43Speaker 1: Arizona with the thin desert air. And yeah, like you
- 44:47Speaker 1: guys have both spelled out, let's see how it works
- 44:49Speaker 1: against more Apple upper level pitching in the minors. Okay, well,
- 44:53Speaker 1: let's get into some of your favorite picks just that
- 44:56Speaker 1: didn't win an award, that had performances that really showed
- 45:01Speaker 1: another tier where you're moving them up your dynasty ranking
- 45:04Speaker 1: sports from these AFL games that happened over the past
- 45:07Speaker 1: couple months. So, Kyle, I'm gonna start with you here.
- 45:11Speaker 1: Who is your first player that you're really highlighting from
- 45:14Speaker 1: the AFL and have started diving into and moving up
- 45:18Speaker 1: your rankings.
- 45:20Speaker 3: Yeah, so I will preface by saying I didn't really
- 45:23Speaker 3: move any of these guys up my rankings due to
- 45:26Speaker 3: their AFL performances, but I think that the kind of
- 45:30Speaker 3: general thoughts in the prospect community, in the dynasty community
- 45:34Speaker 3: around these players has been elevated because they were in
- 45:38Speaker 3: the spotlight more in the AFL. And the first name
- 45:41Speaker 3: that I'm looking at here is a teammate of our
- 45:43Speaker 3: AFL MVP. I'm looking at Max Anderson, who plays a
- 45:47Speaker 3: lot of the same positions as Kevin McGonagall. He can
- 45:50Speaker 3: kind of play all over the infield, a little bit,
- 45:51Speaker 3: a second little bit, a short little bit of third base.
- 45:54Speaker 3: But he had a really good year in general in
- 45:57Speaker 3: one hundred and twenty two games between a trip a slash,
- 46:00Speaker 3: two ninety six three point fifty four seventy eight nineteen
- 46:04Speaker 3: home runs, just three steals. That's not a big part
- 46:07Speaker 3: of his game, but he does an excellent job putting
- 46:11Speaker 3: that to ball and getting the ball in play and
- 46:13Speaker 3: making things happen because he struck out just sixteen percent
- 46:17Speaker 3: of the time. Now he's got an aggressive approach, so
- 46:19Speaker 3: he doesn't walk much either. It's a six percent walk rate.
- 46:22Speaker 3: You're going to want to look at him more in
- 46:24Speaker 3: your average leagues than OBP leagues. But this is a
- 46:29Speaker 3: player who has kind of a really well rounded skill
- 46:32Speaker 3: set without being plus in any one facet of the game.
- 46:38Speaker 3: So he's not somebody that's going to hurt you anywhere,
- 46:42Speaker 3: but he can help you in a lot of places.
- 46:44Speaker 3: And when we look at what he did in the
- 46:45Speaker 3: AFL and why he started getting more attention is because
- 46:49Speaker 3: he put up just some bonkers video game numbers. Now again,
- 46:53Speaker 3: take everything with a grain of salt in the AFL
- 46:57Speaker 3: and if nothing else tells you that this slash line
- 47:00Speaker 3: should because it's a four forty seven, six h nine
- 47:04Speaker 3: eighth nine slash the fourteen hundred ops, which is just absurd.
- 47:08Speaker 3: Four home runs, one stolen base, and he walked twice
- 47:12Speaker 3: as much as he struck out. I believe it was
- 47:14Speaker 3: eighteen walks to nine strikeouts. So that really shows you
- 47:18Speaker 3: what the bat to ball skills look like. He is
- 47:22Speaker 3: tremendous at putting back to ball. He's not going to
- 47:24Speaker 3: strike out a lot, and in all honesty, his best
- 47:27Speaker 3: format might be those points leagues. I know, not everybody
- 47:30Speaker 3: plays points. Not everybody you know is positive when they
- 47:33Speaker 3: think of points leagues. But he is a player that
- 47:37Speaker 3: is just going to be a really steady presence. The
- 47:40Speaker 3: trick here is going to be where he ends up playing.
- 47:43Speaker 3: Because we've already talked about, you know, a guy like
- 47:45Speaker 3: Kevin McGonagall and where does he fit into the picture.
- 47:48Speaker 3: They're obviously going to get him into that lineup before
- 47:52Speaker 3: they start worrying about a guy like Max Anderson. So
- 47:55Speaker 3: what you know, scraps. Is he able to pick up
- 47:58Speaker 3: from a playing time perspective. When we talk about a
- 48:00Speaker 3: McGonagall maybe playing several positions, we talk about a guy
- 48:03Speaker 3: like Cole Keith who's getting moved around all the time.
- 48:06Speaker 3: The Tigers kind of already have this player, So that's
- 48:09Speaker 3: my one concern is where does he really fit in?
- 48:12Speaker 3: But I do really like the bat of Max Anderson.
- 48:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I do too. It's it is a superb bat.
- 48:19Speaker 1: And you do wonder if the Tigers may be a
- 48:21Speaker 1: little bit disappointed that Glaber Torre has accepted that qualifying
- 48:24Speaker 1: offer because they needed that extra space in the infield.
- 48:27Speaker 1: But certainly they've got all off season to find some trades,
- 48:31Speaker 1: and I think Max Anderson's somebody to really start going
- 48:34Speaker 1: into twenty twenty six because I think he's ready. He's
- 48:37Speaker 1: shown what he he has needed to in the minors
- 48:40Speaker 1: and is ready for the primetime. All right, Taylor, I'm
- 48:43Speaker 1: going to pass over you. Who is your first pick
- 48:45Speaker 1: from the AFL of players that have really stood out
- 48:49Speaker 1: to you?
- 48:50Speaker 2: Yeah, mine's gonna be josh Adam Schevski And I would
- 48:52Speaker 2: spell that last name, but we don't have all night,
- 48:54Speaker 2: so I'm gonna move on two seventy seven, four fifteen,
- 49:01Speaker 2: five thirty eight in the AFL, tied for fourth and
- 49:04Speaker 2: home runs with four, fifth and extra eight hits with
- 49:06Speaker 2: nine eighteen percent walk rate twenty percent strikeout rate, chipped
- 49:10Speaker 2: in four steals as well. All of that at age twenty,
- 49:13Speaker 2: which is two years below the average age of the
- 49:16Speaker 2: AFL player. Really good to see after he performed well
- 49:21Speaker 2: in single A last year one eighty seven WRC plus,
- 49:23Speaker 2: but then struggled upon a late season promotion to High
- 49:26Speaker 2: A in the AFL, like I mentioned, showed solid contact
- 49:30Speaker 2: and power ninety one point eight average TV one on
- 49:33Speaker 2: nine point six Max ev. He's kind of in that
- 49:37Speaker 2: mold with with Max Anderson, where like he's not a
- 49:39Speaker 2: great defender. There are some long term questions, particularly in
- 49:43Speaker 2: the farm system that he's in in Milwaukee, where they
- 49:46Speaker 2: have just a ton of position player prospects that are
- 49:49Speaker 2: really highly regarded. So you kind of wonder like will
- 49:53Speaker 2: he rise to the surface, will he you know, be
- 49:56Speaker 2: in purgatory for a while. Good news is that he
- 49:59Speaker 2: is a left handed hitter. The short sight platoon concerns
- 50:01Speaker 2: are not really there. I just think it's a good
- 50:04Speaker 2: combination of solid power in hit tool, and I think
- 50:08Speaker 2: he's one who, you know, after a little bit of
- 50:10Speaker 2: a downturn at the end of last year, he's rebounded
- 50:12Speaker 2: his stock maybe back to where it was earlier last season.
- 50:15Speaker 2: So I think he's like a top two hundred prospect.
- 50:19Speaker 2: Nothing noteworthy, but definitely a guy who's worth rostering in
- 50:22Speaker 2: a lot of leagues.
- 50:23Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think the other great thing to come
- 50:25Speaker 1: out here with am am Schefski is that the he
- 50:30Speaker 1: was one of the fifteen youngest bats in the league too,
- 50:33Speaker 1: So that shows we just described off the get go
- 50:37Speaker 1: that this is more of a finishing school in terms
- 50:41Speaker 1: of going out to the AFL. So it shows he
- 50:43Speaker 1: was a high school pick in twenty twenty three, that
- 50:45Speaker 1: the Brewers have a lot of faith in what am
- 50:48Speaker 1: Chefski can do going forward. So somebody to really put
- 50:51Speaker 1: on your radar that, even though he was in only
- 50:54Speaker 1: high A ball this year, maybe he's a quick riser
- 50:56Speaker 1: through the system next year. All right, Kyle, I'm going
- 50:59Speaker 1: to go back to you, who's your next pick?
- 51:03Speaker 3: Yeah? The next guy that I'm looking at here is
- 51:05Speaker 3: somebody that frankly, I didn't have on my radar as
- 51:10Speaker 3: much until the end of the year. He started getting
- 51:13Speaker 3: some hype towards the end of the year, and the
- 51:14Speaker 3: AFL really helped that. And that is Angel's outfield prospect,
- 51:18Speaker 3: Roddy Rodriguez. Now he's still a deeply name. I've got
- 51:22Speaker 3: him ranked just outside my top four hundred, but he
- 51:24Speaker 3: did put up a really strong year in single eight. Admittedly,
- 51:28Speaker 3: he's a little bit old for the level. I believe
- 51:30Speaker 3: he's twenty two years old now and just finished the
- 51:34Speaker 3: season in Single A, but in one hundred and twenty
- 51:36Speaker 3: five games, really strong slash line two eighty one, three
- 51:40Speaker 3: seventy two, four seventy fourteen home runs here, thirty eight
- 51:43Speaker 3: stolen bases, twenty three percent strikeout rate, eleven percent walk rate.
- 51:48Speaker 3: So it's a really well rounded profile. And he continued
- 51:51Speaker 3: to show that in the AFL where he slashed four
- 51:54Speaker 3: thirty three, five, fourteen, six fifty. So that's another slash
- 51:58Speaker 3: line or another OPI sorry, above a thousand. He got
- 52:02Speaker 3: on base more than half the time as well, just
- 52:05Speaker 3: insane numbers there again video game like one home run,
- 52:08Speaker 3: five steals, twelve k's pen walk. So again, just showed
- 52:12Speaker 3: off a really well rounded profile. And I think when
- 52:16Speaker 3: we you know, typically think about the Angels. We're not
- 52:19Speaker 3: a big fan of their system, we're not a big
- 52:22Speaker 3: fan of their development, we're not a big fan of
- 52:24Speaker 3: how they handle their prospects. But this is a player
- 52:27Speaker 3: that they've actually maybe held back a little bit more
- 52:30Speaker 3: than some of their other guys. They haven't pushed him
- 52:32Speaker 3: nearly as aggressively, and because of that, he's not been
- 52:35Speaker 3: on the forefront of our minds. But Roddy Rodriguez is
- 52:38Speaker 3: somebody that I think deserves more attention than he's been getting,
- 52:41Speaker 3: and the AFL helped him get some of that.
- 52:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I think this is a great pick. And then
- 52:47Speaker 1: it is Rowdy Rodriguez the reason that Perry Manacian moved
- 52:50Speaker 1: on from Taylor Ward this week. I mean, he's got
- 52:55Speaker 1: to be right.
- 52:56Speaker 3: They don't have anybody else that they're going to push aggressively,
- 52:58Speaker 3: so why not Roddy Rodrigue.
- 53:00Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. They didn't promote anybody too aggressively this past year,
- 53:05Speaker 1: so they're like, man, I'm itchin. I've been itchin and
- 53:09Speaker 1: whoof this Angels lineup? I haven't looked at it in
- 53:12Speaker 1: a while. But they've got some work to do, so
- 53:16Speaker 1: the path is open for Rodriguez. I mean, this is
- 53:18Speaker 1: a team that just like moved Christian Moore all the
- 53:22Speaker 1: way through the miners with like no issues. Just Kiren
- 53:25Speaker 1: Paris shot through immediately. Honestly, I think Nelson rod is
- 53:29Speaker 1: probably a name to watch for this opening day outfield.
- 53:33Speaker 1: But I'm gonna put Rowdy Rodriguez right there too, considering
- 53:37Speaker 1: you never know what the Angels are gonna do and
- 53:39Speaker 1: how long they're gonna let a player marinate or not
- 53:43Speaker 1: marinate down in the miners. All right, Taylor, who's your
- 53:47Speaker 1: second pick?
- 53:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm gonna go with a bit of a homer
- 53:49Speaker 2: pick here, and that's Parks Harbor of the San Francisco Giants.
- 53:52Speaker 2: He came over to the Giants in the community of
- 53:54Speaker 2: all deal with the Yankees at the deadline last year.
- 53:58Speaker 2: Was not initially a fan of his pro file, but
- 54:01Speaker 2: I think he's changing my mind. And shout out to
- 54:03Speaker 2: Kyle for writing him up towards the end of last
- 54:05Speaker 2: year as a pickup in our article series. But really
- 54:09Speaker 2: just a dominant AFL performance. I mean, he could have
- 54:12Speaker 2: been a candidate for the Offensive Player of the Year.
- 54:14Speaker 2: Led the league in extra base hits and doubles fifth
- 54:18Speaker 2: and isolated power seventh and home runs third, in batting
- 54:21Speaker 2: average fifth and OBP fourth, and both slugging and ops
- 54:24Speaker 2: eighteen percent, walk rate twenty six percent, strikeout rates a
- 54:27Speaker 2: little higher than you want to see, but again, small sample,
- 54:29Speaker 2: I'm willing to let it pass. Overall solid contact at
- 54:32Speaker 2: seventy five percent and big time, big time power. So
- 54:36Speaker 2: stat cast, if you measure based on players that had
- 54:38Speaker 2: twenty five or more played appearances, he was top five
- 54:41Speaker 2: and average TV at ninety four point six, top six
- 54:43Speaker 2: and MAXIV at one fourteen point three, and he was
- 54:46Speaker 2: first in barrel percentage. So really kind of an exciting
- 54:50Speaker 2: player performing at the AFL. And it just continues what
- 54:53Speaker 2: he did since coming over to the Giants because post trade,
- 54:57Speaker 2: in twenty five games the end the season, he posted
- 54:59Speaker 2: an OPS over one thousand, a three ten ISO in
- 55:02Speaker 2: a one ninety five WRC plus, which is like insane,
- 55:05Speaker 2: insane numbers. However, we got to mention he was a
- 55:08Speaker 2: twenty three year old at high A, so that's very
- 55:10Speaker 2: old for the level. I think that's less an indictment
- 55:13Speaker 2: on him as a player and just more of a
- 55:16Speaker 2: very weird strategy the Giants had last year where they
- 55:19Speaker 2: were very conservative with promotions. You saw a lot of
- 55:21Speaker 2: their players at levels that they were older for the level.
- 55:26Speaker 3: You know, Parks Harbor.
- 55:28Speaker 2: We still have to see him against you know, high
- 55:31Speaker 2: higher minors competition, but I will say he's never posted
- 55:34Speaker 2: WRC plus below one forty. He's pretty much hit everywhere
- 55:37Speaker 2: he's been. I think he's a guy who's really on
- 55:40Speaker 2: the rise. In our our last rankings, we had a
- 55:42Speaker 2: Prospects Live consensus break on him was four to eleven.
- 55:45Speaker 2: I think he's more of like a top three hundred prospect.
- 55:48Speaker 2: Really curious to hear where you have him, Kyle, because
- 55:49Speaker 2: I know you're working on your rankings right now as well.
- 55:52Speaker 3: Yeah, let me take a quick look here. I still
- 55:55Speaker 3: have him back towards four hundred, but that's a ranking
- 55:59Speaker 3: I have really wrestled with because of, like you said,
- 56:03Speaker 3: everything that he showed once he got to San Francisco
- 56:06Speaker 3: and then the fact that he did kind of put
- 56:07Speaker 3: himself more in the spotlight in the AFL here. I
- 56:11Speaker 3: do think somewhere in that three hundred to four hundred
- 56:13Speaker 3: range is probably what we're looking at. And honestly, when
- 56:16Speaker 3: we're looking at those that range of the rankings, it's
- 56:20Speaker 3: almost one, maybe two really big tiers. So you can
- 56:24Speaker 3: argue him just about anywhere in that range, but I
- 56:27Speaker 3: can't argue the fact that he maybe deserves to be
- 56:29Speaker 3: closer to three hundred than where I have him right now.
- 56:34Speaker 1: Yeah, And I mean also, this guy was an undrafted
- 56:36Speaker 1: free agent after playing at Georgia North Carolina. Been absurd
- 56:42Speaker 1: ever since he's been in the minors that I like
- 56:44Speaker 1: that chip on the shoulder aspect to it. That like,
- 56:47Speaker 1: it seems like Harber has something to prove to all
- 56:50Speaker 1: the major league franchises that passed on him in the
- 56:53Speaker 1: draft and allowed him to be an undrafted free agent.
- 56:56Speaker 1: So maybe where do you see Taylor? Like, is he
- 56:59Speaker 1: a first baseman, is he a third baseman? Can he
- 57:02Speaker 1: swing a corner? Where do you see his eventual position being?
- 57:06Speaker 3: That's a great questot It's a room at first right now?
- 57:08Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, first, the thach, third's not locked up or anything, right.
- 57:15Speaker 2: Yeah, there's a lot of positions spoken for. I think
- 57:19Speaker 2: that's one of those things where you'll just let things
- 57:21Speaker 2: play out. I don't worry too much about future position
- 57:25Speaker 2: for guys, especially when they haven't hit double a yet.
- 57:28Speaker 2: I think, you know, maybe if all the same players
- 57:31Speaker 2: are there, maybe you can stick him in the corner
- 57:33Speaker 2: outfield spot or something like that. But I think the
- 57:35Speaker 2: bat's gonna play. I think the defense is a question.
- 57:38Speaker 2: But again, we just have to see him do it
- 57:40Speaker 2: against you know, double A and higher competition, because the
- 57:44Speaker 2: gap between High A and Double A is enormous and
- 57:47Speaker 2: we've seen so many prospects for from well and the
- 57:49Speaker 2: low miners, particularly an older age, who struggle when they
- 57:52Speaker 2: get to the higher minors. So that's gonna be a
- 57:53Speaker 2: real test for him. But if he he hits the
- 57:55Speaker 2: ground running at double A, which I really hope the
- 57:58Speaker 2: Giants are not stupid enough to send him back to,
- 58:01Speaker 2: you should go to double A. And if he hits
- 58:02Speaker 2: the ground running, I think he's one that could really
- 58:04Speaker 2: rise up less.
- 58:05Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's fair. And this type of player,
- 58:09Speaker 1: I feel like the Giants always find it's kind of
- 58:10Speaker 1: like the Michael Morse like kind of archetype where they
- 58:16Speaker 1: ride him hot. It's great, especially and if you're in
- 58:18Speaker 1: a daily league and can play him against lefties. But
- 58:21Speaker 1: he's got one or two like mid thirties homer seasons
- 58:25Speaker 1: in that bat. So Harper is definitely a name to
- 58:27Speaker 1: watch going forward. Okay, your last pick here, Kyle, of
- 58:32Speaker 1: your favorites from the breakouts at the Fall League.
- 58:36Speaker 3: Yeah. Now, I know I've said don't look too much
- 58:38Speaker 3: into what any pitchers do in the AFL, but I
- 58:42Speaker 3: do have a pick on the mound here for my
- 58:44Speaker 3: last one. Here, I'm looking at Jake Bennett of the Nationals.
- 58:48Speaker 3: I currently have him ranked just outside my top four hundred.
- 58:52Speaker 3: A big reason why he got sent to the AFL
- 58:54Speaker 3: is the fact that he did get Tommy John He
- 58:57Speaker 3: missed all of twenty twenty four. He threw seventy five
- 59:00Speaker 3: innings in twenty twenty five, so not a bad innings total.
- 59:03Speaker 3: But when you look at the Nationals rotation, they need help,
- 59:06Speaker 3: and they need it soon, and they need it bad,
- 59:09Speaker 3: so you send him there. I think almost as that
- 59:12Speaker 3: kind of finishing school. Despite the fact that he ended
- 59:14Speaker 3: the year in Double A, it wouldn't be shocked if
- 59:17Speaker 3: we see him in the majors. Probably not opening day,
- 59:20Speaker 3: but maybe by mid season. We see James Bennett making
- 59:23Speaker 3: his big league debut, and he's not going to be
- 59:26Speaker 3: a big time upside guy, not a ton of strikeouts
- 59:29Speaker 3: or anything. Despite the fact that he actually led the
- 59:32Speaker 3: AFL in strikeouts. But we look at what he did
- 59:36Speaker 3: in the regular season. It was a really strong year,
- 59:39Speaker 3: seventy five innings, as I said, a two to seven
- 59:41Speaker 3: ERA one oh eight whip, just a twenty one percent
- 59:45Speaker 3: strikeout rate but a six percent walk rate, And that
- 59:48Speaker 3: really speaks to who he is because it's four average
- 59:51Speaker 3: or better offerings. Here, the fastball is solid. It actually
- 59:55Speaker 3: ticked up a little bit when he returned from Tommy
- 59:58Speaker 3: John in twenty twenty five. Here he's kind of low
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: to mid nineties, tops out around ninety six. He's also
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: got a curveball, a slider, a change up. The change
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: up is probably his best pitch, but the command is
- 1:00:10Speaker 3: arguably his best tool and allows everything else to play up.
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: So when we look at a guy like Jake Bennett,
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: it's not necessarily somebody that is going to, you know,
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: wow you and be the ace of your fantasy team
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: or anything. But he could end up being a steady
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: contributor who you know can help your team significantly in
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: strong matchups. In particular, he didn't have a fantastic AFL,
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: But as I said before, you can't take these numbers
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: too seriously because one bad outing can really swing things.
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: It was a four and a half VRA one two
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: five whip. But again, he led the AFL in strikeouts
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: and he had a five kDa walker ratio, which was
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: third in the entire AFL. So that's kind of who
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: he is. It's not a high strikeout guy, despite the fact,
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: again that he led the AFL. But he's just going
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: to be that steady presence in your rotation.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: Yeah, I think this is a great pick. If there's
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: another patron saint of this podcast, the crew and I have,
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: it's large pitchability lefties, and so Jake Bennett is six
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: foot six, came from Oklahoma. This is exactly my type
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: of player. I think that you can always get them
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: very cheap in fantasy circles too, because especially for a lefty,
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: you know, if the velocity doesn't scream off the charts,
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: it still might be average or above average velocity for
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: a lefty, and that gets hidden in everything. On top
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: of everything else, the Nationals agree with you here, Kyle,
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: because he was added to the forty man roster yesterday
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: to be protected from the Rule five draft, I believe.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: So I think it's all lining up for Jake Bennett.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: To debut for the Washington Nationals in twenty twenty six.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: It's a matter of when not if. All Right, Taylor,
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: your last pick, who you going with for your last
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: of the players in the AFL that stood out to you?
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: Yeah, Kyle went with an Arm for his last pick,
- 1:02:09Speaker 2: so I'm going to choose an Arm as well, but
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: pretty much the opposite. He's not large, he doesn't have
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: pitch ability, and he's not a lefty. But it's Anderson Brito.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: This guy is a strikeout machine. He was third in
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: the AFL and strikeouts. Should mention he pitches for the
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: Houston Naturals organization. Third in the AFL and strikeouts twenty
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: two strikeouts and just eleven point one innings, almost two
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: strikeouts per inning. First in K per nine, as you
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: can imagine, seventeen point five percent or sorry, seventeen point
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: five k per nine. The ratios were fine, three point
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: nine seven ERA, one point one.
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: To five whip.
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: But this is a guy who has a high octane fastball,
- 1:02:47Speaker 2: high nineties, hits one hundred. He pitched in the Fall
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: Stars Game for an inning. I think he averaged ninety
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: eight in that game. Slider gets plus grades as well.
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: So potentially two plus pitches in the fastball and slider
- 1:03:01Speaker 2: Fangrafts gave his curveball a fifty five above average grade,
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: so potential for three above average to plus pitches. The
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: real question with him is going to be the command
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: and control. In the AFL, he did have a lot
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: of walks five point six walks per nine that really
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: continued a trend that we've seen, you know, throughout his career.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: Last year.
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: That's pretty much right in line with what he did
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: when he was pitching in the minors. I will say
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: he missed a lot of last season due to injury,
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: but pitched well when he was on the mound three
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: point two eight e er a two point nine to
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: one FIP, thirty one percent strikeout rate at hya there.
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: You know, like I mentioned, he's a strike out machine.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: He's never had a strike out rate below thirty percent
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: for a full season. And what's crazy is kind of
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: his path to where he is now because he's one
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: year removed from making his pro debut in the DSL
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: summer of twenty twenty four, he was a rare case.
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: I remember at the time me and Kyle were talking
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: about it on our podcast that he actually got moved
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: from I'm the DSL too complex mid season because he
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: was so dominant there made it all the way to
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: single A that year. You know, pitched in High A
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: this year. As I mentioned, he's not a large guy.
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: He's listed at five to ten. There are reports that
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: he's maybe a little bit taller than that, maybe five
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: to eleven, maybe six foot, but still pretty undersized. And
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: with the control concerns, you know, this might be a reliever.
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: But if everything hits, this is like a high strikeout,
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: mid rotation starter and one of the better pitchers in
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: the Astros system. So I think he'll get an opportunity.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: And you know, we've seen a lot of Astros pitchers
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: over the years come out of nowhere and make an
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: impact for fantasy. So I don't know that he's one
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: that you know, you need to again roster and kind
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: of those shower dynasty leagues. But I think he's probably
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: similar to Parks Harbor in that, you know, top three
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: hundred or so prospect range. But yeah, he's a guy
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: who I'm I'm getting more and more excited about.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's a great call, and like you said,
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: this is not necessarily a great rotation for the Astros.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: They still have Jason Alexander hanging out in that rotation,
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: and who knows what you're getting from Lance mccollors and
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: Spencer Arraghetti. There they did it, Miguel Yolo, I believe,
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: is how you say it to their forty man roster today.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: So that's somebody to watch as well. But I think
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: Brito's right there that I like this type of arm too,
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: because if it doesn't work as a starter, honestly, he
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: could probably relieve right now in the majors given the
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: electricity in that arm. And this is exactly the type
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: of guy who turns into a shut down, lockdown closer
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: out of nowhere if it doesn't work as a starter.
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: Yeah, still just twenty one years old. This year upcoming
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: year will be his age twenty one season, so definitely
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: still young heart throwing. You just gotta hope he can
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: find some command and stay healthy.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: All right. Well, that's gonna wrap us up here for
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: the Arizona Fall League. If you're listening to this pod,
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: wherever you're listening, shoot us a message if you've got
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: somebody else in the Arizona Fall League that you think, hey,
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: I would like to see their guys take on it.
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: You can reach us at cards Categories at gmail dot
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: com or find us on blue Sky at cards Categories,
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: or you can reach out to me on rasball dot com,
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: which will always have a post that corresponds with this
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: podcast that you can comment on and I will be
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: right there to chat with you. But Taylor, Kyle, thanks
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: so much guys for coming on this pod. Taylor, it
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: was another great first pitch Arizona. We are going to
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: get Kyle out there one day. He's going to have
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: the blast of his life and he's going to be
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: a part of all the traditions that happen out there
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: and never want to leave again. So Kyle, we're going
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: to see you next year, you think.
- 1:06:45Speaker 3: I sure hope. So. Me and Taylor have been talking
- 1:06:47Speaker 3: about it, and maybe the one thing that swung me
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: the most. He mentioned a two am trip to the
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: batting page. Did he wasn't able to make, but that
- 1:06:56Speaker 3: just sounds fantastic. I really hope I can make it
- 1:06:59Speaker 3: out there next year. I'm going to try everything I
- 1:07:01Speaker 3: can to get out there in twenty twenty six.
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it's just like wall the Wall baseball, and it's
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: just so so much great going on. And I will
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: say that it was nice going back for a second
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: year this year because like I knew the the kind
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: of cadence of what all the the schedules are going
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: to be, and so like I was able to like
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: take a nap one day just because I was like,
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: you know what, I'm on vacation. I'm going to take
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: a nap here. But Taylor, anything about first picture is
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: only that you really want to call it because it
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: is like it is the best time if you love baseball, Right, yeah, I.
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: Disagree with everything you're saying. It was my second year too,
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: and same thing, like you kind of learn, Okay, you
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: don't necessarily have to go to every single panel. There's
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: amazing panels all throughout the day, but you also have
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: to sleep at some point. And that's the hardest part
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: is just fighting when you're going to sleep, because it
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: never stops. It's panels, games, drafts all day long and
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: night long. And then you got the bar, then you
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: got the after party, you got the two am batting cages.
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: Like you just you can't sleep. But one of the
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: most amazing times and even you know, I would say
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: even better at the second year, like it was. It
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: was awesome. So highly recommend anyone you know, whether you're
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: you know, content creator or just in like one fancy
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: home league and you just love fancy baseball or just
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: baseball in general, love talking with like minded people.
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: Check it out.
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: It is amazing.
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: Yes, can't say enough great things and can't say enough
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: great things about you guys and your podcast. Dynasty Baseball Pickups.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: Can really catch it wherever you find podcasts. It is
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: one of the great prospect podcasts out there. Lots of
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: great information you guys find all sorts of great players
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: out there. And what I also appreciate about your your
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: podcast is that you call out your w's and your
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: l's and so there's a lot I think you can
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: learn from the l's over the years in terms of
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: like reevaluating your strategies and seeing you know, are you
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: falling in love with a type of player too much
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: or what has caused missus and it just allows you
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: to get better and better. So I've appreciated all the
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: insights that have come through your podcast over the years
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: that it's been great checking it out.
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: Thanks, Mike. Really really appreciate those words. And if anyone's interested,
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: we usually will typically release on Saturdays. We just started
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: our off season content, so we'll be weekly from now
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: until the playoffs start next year. So check us out
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: again anywhere podcasts can be found.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: All right, and Taylor, let everybody know one more time
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: where they can find you on socials, reach your work
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: and just kind of connect with you.
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: Yeah, you can find me again at Dynasty Pickups on
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: both X and Blue Sky. My work is over at
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: Prospects Live, and occasionally I will be roaming around the
- 1:09:38Speaker 2: Fantasy Baseball Discord, so you can check me out there
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: as well.
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: Kyle, what about you? Where can people find you?
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 1:09:45Speaker 3: Once again socials, I am Sunny Underscore one eight on
- 1:09:49Speaker 3: X and Sunny one O eight on Blue Sky, also
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: on Prospects Live. This offseason, we've been pumping out a
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: ton of content. Lately. We've been working on some twenty
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: twenty eight lineup prediction which are incredibly daunting because you
- 1:10:02Speaker 3: never know what's going to happen in a year, let
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: alone three years like that. We've been right now player
- 1:10:09Speaker 3: blurbs left and right. I think we've got like thirty
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: some players for every team our Dynasty league. Greg who
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: Camp has said, we're writing up blurbs for every fantasy
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: relevant player in baseball, and I would argue a lot
- 1:10:24Speaker 3: of the time we're getting into some irrelevant players as well,
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: So there's a ton of content being pumped out and
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: Famous Taylor you can find me roaming the Fantasy Baseball
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: Discord from time to time, just talking baseball, you know,
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: not always fantasy relevant, but always talking baseball.
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: All right, Well, thanks guys once again for joining the podcast,
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: and if this is one of your first times checking
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: out cards and categories here, rate and review us wherever
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: you're listening to this, certainly appreciate it just helps disseminate
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: the pod and get us into different ears out there.
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: We will be back, same time, same place next week
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: with another pod covering more about fantasy baseball and baseball
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: cards for raspball. Thanks everybody,
