- 0:00Chris Daly is here, and first of all, thank you for coming upstairs
- 0:04to visit with us. I'll check for her. Yeah that was you got
- 0:08some cardio in breath, I could. I think it's the excitement of the
- 0:13team. Yes, good team. When would you say this was the most
- 0:17physical game this team played has played this year. It was definitely physical,
- 0:22But you know, I think that's their style of play. That's how they
- 0:24played us last year. It's probably been how they've played us the last few
- 0:28years, maybe even in their with their previous coach. They were always very
- 0:31physical. And but I thought we regrouped and I don't know that we handled
- 0:37it great when it first started happening in the first quarter, But the third
- 0:42quarter was just terrific. I mean, what could you say. Our defense
- 0:47was good, our offense, we ran our stuff, We had a you
- 0:50know, we got a lot of steels. Our guards had a bunch of
- 0:52steels. We only had eight turnovers season low. Yeah, so that was
- 0:56pretty good. It seemed as a unit. I think you talk about the
- 1:00communication and what you like to see on the team. It seemed that was
- 1:03evident because just the rotations and how they work together as a unit. Yeah,
- 1:07at the beginning, we weren't really doing a good job with trying.
- 1:11What we were trying to do is keep Aleah in and we just got caught
- 1:15in some mismatches early on that we didn't handle well. But once I think
- 1:19we got into it and we the communication improved. I think that made it
- 1:22more difficult for them to score. I thought we did a good job on
- 1:26the kid Ransom, she's a tough player, and kept her a little bit
- 1:29under her average. You know, we gave up some threes, but they
- 1:34shot and they ended up shooting about their average. You know, they shoot
- 1:37twenty seven percent from three, So if we were going to give up something,
- 1:40we figured we could give up some of that. But you know,
- 1:42I thought Nica played really well. She knocked in a bunch of key threes
- 1:46and then her assists. She should have had ten, but she should have
- 1:52had a double dough. Yeah, well that happens. But everybody did a
- 1:55little something, you know. I think we got ice and Q. I
- 1:57think was a little more nervous than usual this first time she's come playing home
- 2:01in her area. This is where she's from, Arend, right, So
- 2:05I think she's maybe a little more anxious than than normal, but ended up
- 2:10playing well. I thought Ice gave us some good minutes. Ash played great
- 2:16KK. You know, so we did a lot of good things. Chris,
- 2:20we were talking in the fourth quarter. We have a segment called points
- 2:23of the Paint that sponsored, and it was weird. The points of the
- 2:25paint and the second chance points were very much different, which is kind of
- 2:31odd, but that was the case today. You had, you know,
- 2:35you dominated the paint, but then the second chance points were all Georgetown today.
- 2:38Yeah, I would want to look at the film a little bit because
- 2:43I don't know how you judge that. That's a hard Page is already complaining
- 2:46that they missed her offensive rebound. I said, Page, when you only
- 2:50have one, it's so sad that you know they missed the one that you
- 2:54had. But we did, you know, being down Aubrey, we really
- 3:00have to become a better rebound We had to become a better rebounding team before
- 3:02that. Now we lose, you know, our one of our best rebounders.
- 3:07So we really have to do that by committee, and that's gonna have
- 3:12to be by our guards. And Ash I think has the capability to be
- 3:15a better rebounder. She got in there and mixed it up a little today.
- 3:17You know, Page has to be a better rebounder. Nika is already
- 3:21a good rebounder, so she enjoys the contact. She's want to add.
- 3:23Of all the guards, she she's probably the one that enjoys the physicalness of
- 3:29a game more than anybody else. So we just have a lot of work
- 3:32to do. But you know, to finish the week. We knew going
- 3:36in we had Creighton and and uh, Georgetown, and we knew we were
- 3:42making it extended trip. So to come at the end of this and and
- 3:47be two and oh, we feel pretty good, especially with the injury,
- 3:51and so you know, we could have ended a lot of different ways,
- 3:53and it ended the way we wanted it to. I think it's most impressive
- 3:59too, with all that, you know, all the turbulence, different things
- 4:00going on. That's it a four stretch where the consistency throughout the game you
- 4:05really didn't have drop off. Yes, I know, imperfections, but yeah,
- 4:10no, this is the first game where we got out rebounded. The
- 4:13last three or four, including Louisville, Creighton, Marquette against some physical teams,
- 4:17we outrebounded them. And this is the first game and not having Aubrey
- 4:21plays a role in that, I think. But as long as we can
- 4:25continue to get better at it and concentrate on it and and be able to
- 4:29run our stuff and get good looks, and you know, we shoot the
- 4:30ball pretty well. I think we shop fifty percent from the floor. So
- 4:34we have to give her That's how, you know, we have to figure
- 4:36out ways to give ourselves the best chance to win. Ashlyn gave you two
- 4:40blocks day. I'm not discussing that she knew that was going to be the
- 4:45case. She did say that I'm not we aren't. We are not.
- 4:48Our guards are not shoplockers, and her and NK are under this impression that
- 4:51they should be a shoplockers. No no, I threatened that I wasn't going
- 4:56to let her a postgame meal the other day if she tried to attempt to
- 4:59block another shot. So I don't know what I'm gonna do. They hear
- 5:01you loud and clear. I don't know what I'm gonna do today. She
- 5:03should just get in the crowd and not even look at me when she does
- 5:06stuff like that. Now it's a little different, although like we should be
- 5:10able to take charges, so it's a little bit different when it's against a
- 5:14kid that was her size. It's when they tried to block shots of guys
- 5:17way bigger than them. That really right, like, there's no way that's
- 5:20happening. No way. Was that the page foul that picked up. I
- 5:24think Gina looked a little. I think, oh no, against the four
- 5:28going in for the layup, and well, that didn't try she didn't try
- 5:30to block it. She led a kid that shouldn't go by her, go
- 5:32buy her. Oh like that, you know, someone that is six to
- 5:36three pages quicker than she is. There's no way that kids should have gotten
- 5:41by. So that wasn't a block shot. But that's a whole nother story.
- 5:46But we visited two very powerful places in the nation's capital last couple of
- 5:50days. Arlington. You saw the changing of the guard, and then he
- 5:54went to the Holocaust Museum. We also some of us went to the African
- 5:58American Museum. Okay, also, so we split yesterday. Had you ever
- 6:01been in the Holocaust Museum? And I didn't go yesterday? I know I
- 6:04didn't. I went to the African American Museum and everything was powerful. You
- 6:12know, it's funny. I told them that they were supposed to take you
- 6:15know, notes and five things that they came back with and justice, you
- 6:19know, the slavery, the Martin Luther King for me, Martin Luther King,
- 6:24and then being able to see some of the they have it broken down.
- 6:27You can see the people in sports just you know, just impactful things
- 6:31that you don't think about. And then Nika. It was funny because Nica
- 6:36asked me about it. In her mind, she didn't really connect why there'd
- 6:41be a museum in the US because in her mind that happened in Europe,
- 6:46you know, like that wasn't But now she gets it, you know,
- 6:48she understands, and you know, she came back with some facts, you
- 6:53know, with Hitler and just it was really a good experience for our players.
- 6:57Yeah. No, and they actually now know what the Arlington Cemetery.
- 7:00They know how many steps they take, they know how long they do it.
- 7:02They know why it's twenty one steps. You know why it's twenty one
- 7:06step? Oh? I remember being told I don't remember why. Okay,
- 7:11Well it's like a twenty one gun salute, right, and that's why it's
- 7:15twenty one. But do you know how we got the twenty one gun salute?
- 7:17How? Okay, I'll tell you a little story. Well, all
- 7:19right, this is years ago. So years ago, Gino asked our team,
- 7:25He said, can you tell me how we got the twenty one gun
- 7:27salut? And this was before Google, and he said, you can find
- 7:29out any which way and if you have twenty four hours and I will buy
- 7:32the person that gets at dinner. So he and I went recruiting and it
- 7:35was running out on the time. I said, oh my god, I
- 7:39said, I still have time. So I call my brother, my older
- 7:42brother, who knows lots about history, literally asked him. I said,
- 7:46Michael, how do we get twenty one gun salute without hesitation? Didn't think?
- 7:50He said, oh, that's easy. Seventeen seventy six when you add
- 7:54them up, that's how you get twenty one seventy six. Yes, and
- 7:57that's how you get twenty one w Yes, and I got the dinner,
- 8:01although Gino said it wasn't there because I asked my brother. No, I
- 8:03just won. So but anyway, that's how you get twenty one stuff.
- 8:07Yeah, that's I got. I like that. Now, did you now?
- 8:11Did the team go rounder than the watching the Changing of the Guard?
- 8:15Did they go visit some of the other spots? Yeah, Lincoln Memorial,
- 8:18although that was I mean, I was just watching Arlington. Oh yeah,
- 8:22I think they. I didn't get to go to that party either, Okay,
- 8:24but yeah, I think they went to some other things in Arlington because
- 8:26I oh they did because Nika knew that there's only two presidents that are buried
- 8:31there. Yea, who they are Kennedy obviously and who's the other, Wow,
- 8:35William taff Oh see that's good. Yeah, so I'm gonna feel little
- 8:39bit smarter when it comes. There's a few astronauts in there that I know
- 8:43of. Two of the Apollo one astronauts are in there that were killed in
- 8:48the fire in the sixties. The other was at West Point. Yeah.
- 8:50Yeah, it's just really I think and they were and our players are really
- 8:54good with that sort of stuff, you know. I think they enjoy learning
- 8:58different things. And we were here for an extended period of time, and
- 9:01the other options, what are you going to sit in a hotel? No?
- 9:03And yesterday was rained the entire day. Yeah, Friday, I did
- 9:07Aaron Space Allan and I walked around air and space, US History and we
- 9:11went to the archives. Well I did tell them we should go to the
- 9:13Treasury, so we could see where the money's made. Well, see,
- 9:16I'm going to say you've always been very big on making it, teaching your
- 9:22teams back and from my day, wherever you go, it's all about bigger
- 9:24than basketball, and it is about history and understanding those past. So you'll
- 9:31be happy. Our players did not know the capitol of Nebraska so that they
- 9:35said Omaha, they did not know it was Lincoln. So I think you've
- 9:39played. We still are teaching them so as you should. Chris. We'll
- 9:46see you Wednesday. All right, thank you. Chris Daily wrapping things up
