- 0:33Speaker 2: to the Physician Center.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Here come old flat top, here come grooving up slowly.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Welcome and glad to have you with us for another
- 1:08Speaker 1: week of excellence. This portion of the program brought to
- 1:12Speaker 1: you by Central Texas Sports Medicine. Coming up, post-game react
- 1:18Speaker 1: from Baton Rouge. Post-game, post-season react from the Rangers. Weekend recap,
- 1:29Speaker 1: we're going to hear from Lane Kiffin, Steve Sarkeesian, and
- 1:33Speaker 1: in the second hour, the Writer's Roundtable with Cease and Rusty, America's.
- 1:40Speaker 4: Most loved hour of radio. That is coming up. And
- 1:46Speaker 4: we'll give away.
- 1:47Speaker 1: A weekly prize for our Friday's Fearless as well.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Okay.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Mike Elko met with the media today.
- 1:56Speaker 1: If you were paying attention to The Zone, you should
- 1:59Speaker 1: have heard that along about 1.30 this afternoon.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Some of you work. I get that.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Elko reiterated that Marcel Reed is still his quarterback. He
- 2:14Speaker 1: said they have to figure out ways to rush the passer.
- 2:21Speaker 1: And Other things that were, honestly, it seemed like he
- 2:30Speaker 1: is at a little bit of loss with this team
- 2:33Speaker 1: because I don't think what he's getting certainly is what
- 2:37Speaker 1: he expected from this 2026 version. The Aggies losing 35-6,
- 2:41Speaker 1: of course, in Baton Rouge. And I think the stats
- 2:51Speaker 1: were probably even.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Worse than the score.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Over 500 yards.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Of offense for LSU. Less than 200 yards of defense,
- 2:58Speaker 4: of offense, I'm sorry, for the Aggies. 506 to 197
- 3:01Speaker 4: to be exact. Reed was just 10 of 26 passing.
- 3:19Speaker 1: With an interception, the team rushed for 142 yards. No,
- 3:27Speaker 1: I'm sorry. Yeah, that's right, 142 yards. No, net yardage
- 3:32Speaker 1: was 91 yards because they lost 51 yards.
- 3:34Speaker 4: So they rushed for.
- 3:35Speaker 1: 91 yards net, 106 yards passing.
- 3:50Speaker 4: That wasn't great.
- 3:53Speaker 1: When asked for an area of the team that was
- 3:58Speaker 1: doing well today, Elko picked out the special teams. So
- 4:03Speaker 1: we're punting well. Our field goals have been good. We're
- 4:08Speaker 1: covering kicks well.
- 4:10Speaker 4: All of that, true.
- 4:15Speaker 1: We're going to hear from Dalton Brooks and Marcel Reed
- 4:18Speaker 1: coming up here in a little bit To that end,
- 4:22Speaker 1: on punting, Tyler White selected as one of Ray's eight
- 4:26Speaker 1: for week four. The Ray Guy committee, that's the second
- 4:30Speaker 1: time that's happened. Six punts, 51.9 yards. Ten of White's
- 4:37Speaker 1: 15 punts this year have been more than 50 yards.
- 4:41Speaker 1: And he leads the country at 50 yards a punt. Now,
- 4:45Speaker 1: that's a decent stat. You just don't want a lot
- 4:48Speaker 1: of punts. It's okay to average 50 yards a punt.
- 4:54Speaker 1: You don't want to be punting the football a lot.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Of course, this Saturday at 6 o'clock, it's the Piggy people.
- 5:03Speaker 1: They beat Tulsa this last weekend. And the league has
- 5:08Speaker 1: announced that A & M' s game at Missouri October 10th
- 5:12Speaker 1: will kick off at either 11 a.m.
- 5:14Speaker 5: Or 11.45 a.m.
- 5:19Speaker 1: That will be either on the ABC or the SEC Network.
- 5:24Speaker 1: This is looking like kind of an SEC Network game
- 5:30Speaker 1: for me.
- 5:30Speaker 4: Um, Missouri hosts Florida.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Saturday afternoon at 2.30 on ABC. The league says Florida
- 5:41Speaker 1: running back Jaden Baugh is the offensive player of the week.
- 5:45Speaker 4: He was really good, by the way.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Um, Chris Cole of Georgia, defensive player of the week.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Deuce Geralds, defensive tackle of LSU, is the freshman of
- 5:58Speaker 1: the week. LSU's got him some D-linemen now. We kind
- 6:03Speaker 1: of knew that before the game. This is an interesting deal.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Texas Senator Ted Cruz says the Senate's expected to pass
- 6:13Speaker 1: the Protect College Sports Act this afternoon. And the president
- 6:18Speaker 1: could be signing it on game day. He mentioned ideally
- 6:23Speaker 1: it would be in Tuscaloosa with A & M Alabama
- 6:26Speaker 1: October 24th, but the Aggies being 2-2 are probably not
- 6:31Speaker 1: a game day draw. The House still has to approve
- 6:36Speaker 1: the bill. Cruz said House members could return before the
- 6:42Speaker 1: elections to sign the bill. And he expects the vote
- 6:46Speaker 1: could be done in a day. Most people don't think that's,
- 6:50Speaker 1: by the way, going to happen.
- 6:54Speaker 4: Devon A.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Chain, former Aggie receiver, returner, running back, out for the year.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Tore his ACL this last Sunday in the loss to
- 7:05Speaker 1: the Chiefs. He had rushed for 127 yards on 34
- 7:08Speaker 1: carries last year. 1,838 yards from the line of scrimmage
- 7:16Speaker 1: in a Pro Bowl appearance. Yesterday, the AP announced its
- 7:20Speaker 1: top 25. The first three teams are the same. Texas, Georgia,
- 7:26Speaker 1: Notre Dame. Miami up two spots to four. Ohio State
- 7:31Speaker 1: up two spots to five. Indiana down a spot to six.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Alabama at seven. Florida jumped five spots to number eight.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Ole Miss dropped four spots to nine. BYU at 10.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Then LSU at 11. Texas Tech at 12. Then Utah, Iowa,
- 7:53Speaker 1: and Oregon. Mississippi State is 16. Tennessee is 17.
- 7:56Speaker 4: Houston is 20. SMU is 21.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Kentucky 24. And Missouri at 25. The Aggies out of
- 8:00Speaker 1: the poll. 10. Still, SEC teams in the top 25.
- 8:18Speaker 1: The SEC issued an apology today saying the officiating crew
- 8:23Speaker 1: of the Texas-Tennessee game made an error and that the
- 8:27Speaker 1: onside kick that was recovered by the volunteers should have
- 8:33Speaker 1: been a five-yard penalty for being an illegal onside attempt.
- 8:40Speaker 1: The ball should have been flagged because while a drop
- 8:42Speaker 1: kick is legal, the ball has to bounce at the
- 8:46Speaker 1: 35-yard line. The kicker cannot move from his initial position.
- 8:51Speaker 1: Tennessee's kicker moved to the left hash before the kick,
- 8:54Speaker 1: dropped the ball on the 34. Two rules were violated.
- 8:59Speaker 1: You know, it's the same crew. that did not call
- 9:04Speaker 1: the hideout play when Oklahoma beat Auburn last year and
- 9:09Speaker 1: frankly cost Auburn its coach. Auburn was screwed out of
- 9:14Speaker 1: three games by the officials last year.
- 9:16Speaker 4: This was one of them.
- 9:17Speaker 1: And three of those officials were at the Texas-Tennessee game.
- 9:22Speaker 4: Maybe you should get some new officials.
- 9:24Speaker 1: I know that's a radical thing to say. I'm just
- 9:29Speaker 1: saying that maybe you should get Some new officials. Dylan
- 9:34Speaker 1: Stewart punched an Alabama player late in the loss. South
- 9:38Speaker 1: Carolina was getting blown out. Stewart, a projected top 10
- 9:42Speaker 1: NFL pick, punched tight end Josh.
- 9:45Speaker 4: Ford in the helmet after a fourth quarter touchdown.
- 9:48Speaker 1: He was flagged but not ejected. He was confronted on
- 9:53Speaker 1: the sideline by Shane Beamer, was slow to leave the
- 9:58Speaker 1: field following the penalty. and Beamer suspended him indefinitely. I'll
- 10:04Speaker 1: make the decision on what his future looks like beyond
- 10:06Speaker 1: this week. Still having some meetings and talking with him,
- 10:10Speaker 1: but he won't play this week versus Kentucky. Speaking of that,
- 10:17Speaker 1: What did I do with... I think we're going to
- 10:19Speaker 1: hear from Sarkeesian. But he spoke today on Texas having
- 10:29Speaker 1: 11 penalties for I don't know how many hundreds of yards.
- 10:35Speaker 4: The end.
- 10:37Speaker 4: Collins, did I get that right?
- 10:40Speaker 1: Who simulated on the field, as the official said, urination.
- 10:47Speaker 1: and got flagged 15 yards. He has been talked to,
- 10:52Speaker 1: according to Sark, and it will be dealt with internally.
- 10:57Speaker 4: Is that right? Colin Simmons. Colin Simmons, yeah. Colin Simmons. So, yeah.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Except that he had five sacks, so... They're not going
- 11:13Speaker 1: to sit him down. The NBA, like I cover the NBA.
- 11:20Speaker 1: The Major League Playoffs begin tomorrow. The Astros made it again.
- 11:26Speaker 1: And I got to say, eight AOS titles in ten seasons.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Nine postseason berths in ten years. Fourteen division titles. And
- 11:41Speaker 1: 19 playoff berths in Astros history. 10 of 12 years
- 11:46Speaker 1: for the Astros.
- 11:47Speaker 4: The Rangers, on the other hand, have had a losing season.
- 11:53Speaker 4: Not playoffs.
- 11:54Speaker 1: A losing season in 10 of the last 11 years.
- 11:59Speaker 1: But Ranger fans will always have Phoenix. The Astros host
- 12:04Speaker 1: the White Sox for a three-game series. Phillies and Braves
- 12:09Speaker 1: begin things at noon tomorrow. The Astros game will be
- 12:15Speaker 1: on Willie. That's a 3 o'clock start.
- 12:19Speaker 4: NBC, 6 o'clock. Cubs, Padres, follow that. So four division games.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Jordan Alvarez wins the batting title with a 3-16 average.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Led the league in slugging, total bases, war, on-base percentage.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Offense plus slugging was second in home runs, second in
- 12:46Speaker 1: RBIs to Pete Alonso. I'm telling you, he should be
- 12:51Speaker 1: the MVP. My thought is Pete Alonso is going to
- 12:55Speaker 1: be the MVP. That's what I think. But Alvarez should
- 13:02Speaker 1: be the AL MVP. Unbelievable year. One of the reasons
- 13:07Speaker 1: the Astros beat the Rangers is because Their superstar played
- 13:12Speaker 1: like a superstar. Corey Seager was four of his last
- 13:17Speaker 1: 25 down the stretch when the Rangers needed him the most.
- 13:22Speaker 1: And they have big-time decisions to make. They have $ 68
- 13:26Speaker 1: million invested in Corey Seager and Jacob DeGrom.
- 13:32Speaker 4: That's a lot of scoons.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Okay, we're going to take a break. We're going to
- 13:40Speaker 1: hear some postgame coming up with Marcel Reed. We're going
- 13:49Speaker 1: to hear from him. Dalton Brooks, we're going to hear
- 13:53Speaker 1: from him. Oh, and we're going to give away a
- 13:58Speaker 1: prize for Friday's Fearless after this for Agco Insurance.
- 14:03Speaker 6: Anco Insurance is now a part of Hub International, bringing
- 14:07Speaker 6: you more choices, better value, and even greater expertise. While
- 14:10Speaker 6: our name has changed, we're still the same local team
- 14:13Speaker 6: you know and trust. Now with even more to offer,
- 14:15Speaker 6: from business insurance to personal protection and employee benefits, we're

- 14:22Speaker 6: service you expect. Now with the strength of Hub International
- 14:25Speaker 6: behind us, more resources, more solutions, still your team. Anco Insurance,
- 14:30Speaker 6: a Hub International company, so you're ready for tomorrow.
- 14:33Speaker 7: Make the zone a part of your tailgate, back porch gate,
- 14:36Speaker 7: home gate. Make the zone a part of your Aggie
- 14:39Speaker 7: Football Saturday. Game day on the zone brought to you
- 14:42Speaker 7: in part by Original Chop Shop, Ford of Madisonville, Kelly
- 14:46Speaker 7: Burt Dozer, and TexAx.com. It all starts with the game
- 14:50Speaker 7: day show. Of course, you hear every Aggie football game
- 14:54Speaker 7: home road. It doesn't matter here on the zone. And
- 14:56Speaker 7: then the call-in show after every A & M home game.
- 14:59Speaker 7: Spend your Aggie Football Saturdays here on the zone.
- 15:20Speaker 4: Welcome back.
- 15:21Speaker 1: Friday's Fearless Football Forecast Contest is brought to you by
- 15:26Speaker 1: Chad Jones Law and Zwernemann Flooring. We're going to jump
- 15:29Speaker 1: out to the Players Fund Center phone line and visit
- 15:33Speaker 1: with Week 4 winner James Bouse.
- 15:37Speaker 4: James, how are you?
- 15:39Speaker 8: I'm doing fine, Chip.
- 15:41Speaker 4: How long have you been playing this game?
- 15:44Speaker 8: Oh, gosh. As long as you had it out, sir.
- 15:48Speaker 4: That's since the late 50s, so it's been around a while.
- 15:51Speaker 9: Yes, sir.
- 15:53Speaker 8: Well, I wasn't born until the 60s.
- 15:55Speaker 4: Okay. You've won before, right?
- 15:57Speaker 8: Yes, sir. I won before. I even won your basketball one.
- 16:00Speaker 9: Wow.
- 16:01Speaker 4: Okay. So you're like a pro.
- 16:05Speaker 8: Yeah, I'm in there with Don Horn.
- 16:07Speaker 4: Oh, my gosh.
- 16:09Speaker 8: He was one of my coaches in high school.
- 16:11Speaker 4: Well, then you were coached well, and you learned well.
- 16:15Speaker 4: You learned at the feet of the master. Oh, yeah.
- 16:18Speaker 8: I'm one of those boys that you dove hunted with
- 16:22Speaker 8: a long time ago.
- 16:23Speaker 4: Oh, my gosh. Okay.
- 16:26Speaker 1: James is 9-1 this week, won the tiebreaker. His only
- 16:33Speaker 1: loss was Ole Miss-Florida. I lost that game. In fact,
- 16:37Speaker 1: I lost two other games this week. It was not
- 16:40Speaker 1: my finest. But when do you make your picks during
- 16:45Speaker 1: the week, James?
- 16:45Speaker 8: Usually I don't have them made, but I was off
- 16:49Speaker 8: today because I had a grandson this weekend.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Oh, congratulations.
- 16:54Speaker 8: So I usually don't have them turned in already, but
- 16:56Speaker 8: I didn't. I'll do them tomorrow when I get to work.
- 16:59Speaker 4: Do you ever go back and change?
- 17:02Speaker 10: No.
- 17:03Speaker 4: That's my problem.
- 17:05Speaker 5: James.
- 17:09Speaker 1: That's a big problem I have. So I got to
- 17:11Speaker 1: talk to somebody who knows how to do this, apparently.
- 17:16Speaker 1: So I'm going to quit doing that stuff. Although there's
- 17:20Speaker 1: a couple of picks I don't like already that I've
- 17:22Speaker 1: made this week. So I may go back and change anyway.
- 17:25Speaker 4: James, I have a $ 50.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Gift certificate from Rudy's barbecue for you winning this week.
- 17:33Speaker 4: Um, And I haven't checked yet.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Are you near the top right now of the whole deal?
- 17:39Speaker 11: No, sir.
- 17:39Speaker 12: No, sir.
- 17:40Speaker 8: I had some bad, lousy weeks.
- 17:42Speaker 6: Oh, good.
- 17:42Speaker 4: I'm glad to hear that because I've had some bad,
- 17:45Speaker 4: lousy weeks, too.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Hey, you had a good one this week, my friend. Congratulations.
- 17:51Speaker 1: We'll put you on hold. Connor will tell you how
- 17:54Speaker 1: to pick up the prize. And congratulations. Thanks for playing.
- 17:58Speaker 3: Thanks, Chip.
- 17:59Speaker 13: Yep.
- 17:59Speaker 4: That's James Faust. He is this week's winner. Nine and one.
- 18:05Speaker 4: And play the music.
- 18:08Speaker 1: We've got more. We've got week five. You have until
- 18:11Speaker 1: Friday afternoon at five o'clock. Our tiebreaker is Cowboys and Oilers. Yes,
- 18:18Speaker 1: the Cowboys and Oilers are playing this week. Just like
- 18:21Speaker 1: old times. Bob Phillips will be on the sideline. Tom
- 18:25Speaker 1: Landry will be on the sideline. It'll be awesome. Bryan-Coppers
- 18:30Speaker 1: Cove College Station in Georgetown, Arkansas A & M, Pitt
- 18:35Speaker 1: Virginia Tech, Penn State Northwestern, Central Florida Houston, Navy and
- 18:41Speaker 1: Air Force, Alabama, Mississippi State, Ohio State, and Iowa. Those
- 18:49Speaker 1: are the 10 games we're picking this week.
- 18:53Speaker 4: Go to chiphower.com.
- 18:55Speaker 1: If you haven't registered, you're not going to win the
- 18:58Speaker 1: whole year, but you can win weekly prizes, valuable weekly prizes.
- 19:03Speaker 4: So go ahead.
- 19:03Speaker 1: It's not too late. It's only too late to get
- 19:06Speaker 1: your name engraved on the cup. Friday's fearless football forecast contest,
- 19:11Speaker 1: a division of sports stock, America's most loved football pick
- 19:15Speaker 1: them contest presented by Zwirneman flooring and Chad Jones law.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Okay. Um, wasn't a great weekend in Baton Rouge.
- 19:30Speaker 1: If you're an Aggie, uh, Let's hear, I tell you what,
- 19:37Speaker 1: let's put Dalton Brooks up first, and then we'll hear
- 19:41Speaker 1: from Marcel, because I've got a few more comments on
- 19:45Speaker 1: on Marcel. So first, Dalton Brooks post game.
- 19:52Speaker 14: What is it going to take?
- 19:53Speaker 1: You think you ought to turn things around and get
- 19:55Speaker 1: back and have a successful year?
- 19:57Speaker 5: Go back to work. You know, I mean, you can't.
- 20:00Speaker 10: On what's already happened or what what you know i'm
- 20:02Speaker 10: saying you think it may happen or anything like that
- 20:04Speaker 10: you just got to get back to work and fix
- 20:05Speaker 10: what you can fix.
- 20:07Speaker 4: Did you feel like the the week following like the
- 20:09Speaker 4: week of practice after conducting did you guys feel like
- 20:11Speaker 4: you had kind of a a good.
- 20:13Speaker 10: Response oh yeah you know you always respond after a
- 20:15Speaker 10: game like that you know we came into practice we
- 20:17Speaker 10: practiced well and you just got to translate into the game.
- 20:21Speaker 12: You've had some busted coverages do you feel like it's
- 20:23Speaker 12: a communication issue do you feel like it's a Just
- 20:25Speaker 12: guys not being in the right place. What kind of
- 20:27Speaker 12: feel is maybe a through line between some of these
- 20:29Speaker 12: issues and broken plays?
- 20:31Speaker 10: It's on all of us back there. As you said,
- 20:33Speaker 10: it's a communication issue. Everybody has to communicate and everybody
- 20:35Speaker 10: has to do their job.
- 20:37Speaker 2: I think there was a timeout right before they hit
- 20:38Speaker 2: the fourth and one touchdown pass.
- 20:40Speaker 14: What was the discussion in the huddle? Were you all
- 20:42Speaker 14: anticipating a run?
- 20:43Speaker 15: What was the breakdown in that play for you guys?
- 20:46Speaker 10: Fourth and short, you always anticipate something, but you can't
- 20:49Speaker 10: ever guess on what's going to happen. I mean, if
- 20:53Speaker 10: you guess most of the time in football, you're going
- 20:55Speaker 10: to guess wrong.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Stoltenbrooks, and that was the play, really, that honestly I
- 21:04Speaker 1: thought the game was over before that play, quite frankly,
- 21:07Speaker 1: the way things were going. But that's just, you know,
- 21:12Speaker 1: that's the way it is. But that one, you know,
- 21:16Speaker 1: kind of did them in. Then you have, you know,
- 21:19Speaker 1: the fourth. fourth down play that's the second week in
- 21:22Speaker 1: a row but i i get it you're trying to
- 21:27Speaker 1: make things happen you're you're behind you're not going anywhere
- 21:32Speaker 1: um but two weeks in a row have been stuffed
- 21:35Speaker 1: on fourth and short you know and you're in your
- 21:38Speaker 1: own territory uh and and the opponents have scored touchdowns
- 21:42Speaker 1: on on each of those right so um So yeah,
- 21:48Speaker 1: Marcel Reed was not good. 10 of 26. 106 yards.
- 21:53Speaker 1: He was sacked four times. The offensive line was not good.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Ashton Bethel Rubin played a little bit, obviously. And then
- 22:07Speaker 1: you had Craver, who was hobbled. I don't think Horton
- 22:15Speaker 1: got any He didn't make a catch.
- 22:18Speaker 4: Did he? I think he did. Yes, he did.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Of course he did. Isaiah Horton made some catches. He
- 22:23Speaker 1: was targeted eight times. Three for 43. In that situation,
- 22:28Speaker 1: probably needed a little bit more. But, hey, you only completed, right,
- 22:33Speaker 1: ten passes. So, it's hard to say, hey, this guy
- 22:38Speaker 1: needs more. This guy needs more. You know, when they
- 22:44Speaker 1: ran the ball, Owens– Average five and a half yards
- 22:49Speaker 1: to carry. Edwards averaged over five yards to carry. So
- 22:57Speaker 1: between three guys with Carson Baker, there were 20, 18,
- 23:00Speaker 1: 22 rushes for 83, 98 yards. I mean, that's not terrible, right?
- 23:13Speaker 1: They didn't have the ball that much, and they were behind, right?
- 23:17Speaker 1: Second half, they're behind, so they're throwing the football. But
- 23:22Speaker 1: the pass protection wasn't great.
- 23:25Speaker 4: Let's hear from Marcel Reed postgame.
- 23:27Speaker 5: Marcel, just why do you think the passing game never
- 23:30Speaker 5: took off tonight? You guys just had so much trouble.
- 23:32Speaker 9: Getting it going.
- 23:37Speaker 14: I mean, we had trouble up front, and, you know,
- 23:39Speaker 14: some of that's on me. Yeah, we really just couldn't
- 23:43Speaker 14: get it going. And as simple as that, you know,
- 23:46Speaker 14: we executed stuff in practice. It just didn't translate to
- 23:49Speaker 14: the game.
- 23:53Speaker 13: What was the.
- 23:53Speaker 12: Biggest difference in this LSU team from the one you
- 23:55Speaker 12: played last year?
- 23:58Speaker 14: They had a different coach. I mean, they got a
- 24:02Speaker 14: couple players as a portal, but, I mean, that's college
- 24:04Speaker 14: football nowadays. So, I mean, you know, obviously they played
- 24:08Speaker 14: better than us this year, and that was obvious.
- 24:11Speaker 16: Wilson, you were so effective running the football against LSU,
- 24:15Speaker 16: particularly the past two years.
- 24:16Speaker 15: Was that maybe not as big of a part of
- 24:18Speaker 15: the game plan tonight, or was there something that just
- 24:20Speaker 15: made it not quite as effective?
- 24:22Speaker 14: I mean, I'm sure they knew and understood that I
- 24:24Speaker 14: was effective running the ball the past two years. So,
- 24:29Speaker 14: you know, they had people around for me whenever I
- 24:31Speaker 14: did run the ball. But, you know, still had a couple,
- 24:34Speaker 14: you know, good games. But, you know, couldn't get it
- 24:38Speaker 14: all the way going. You know, things didn't open up
- 24:40Speaker 14: like it did last year. So, you know, I had
- 24:43Speaker 14: to play the game, you know, with what they showed
- 24:45Speaker 14: me and what I was called, and that's what I
- 24:48Speaker 14: tried to do.
- 24:49Speaker 9: Carson, do you think the problems today for you in
- 24:52Speaker 9: the passing game was similar to the Kentucky game, or
- 24:55Speaker 9: in what ways maybe were they different?
- 24:58Speaker 14: Yeah, I mean, I don't think they were similar to
- 25:01Speaker 14: the Kentucky game. You know, Kentucky, it was just me
- 25:05Speaker 14: more missing throws and, you know, not making throws that
- 25:08Speaker 14: I could make, you know, today, I think. for the
- 25:11Speaker 14: most part, I tried my best to put the ball,
- 25:13Speaker 14: you know, where it needed to be, and, you know,
- 25:16Speaker 14: they just were incomplete, so.
- 25:19Speaker 17: How big of a killer were some of those penalties,
- 25:21Speaker 17: and how do y'all kind of clean.
- 25:22Speaker 2: Up those penalties next week?
- 25:23Speaker 14: Yeah, the penalties were, you know, definitely killers. You know,
- 25:28Speaker 14: we just got to play smarter. I mean, that's all
- 25:30Speaker 14: it is, and it's not like it's one of those,
- 25:33Speaker 14: you know, holding penalties or, you know, they were, you know,
- 25:36Speaker 14: illegal man downfields or offensive pass interference, so We just
- 25:42Speaker 14: got to be smarter and use our technique the way
- 25:46Speaker 14: we're supposed to use it and not try to get
- 25:48Speaker 14: away with plays like that because obviously the flag gets thrown.
- 25:53Speaker 2: After they put Brady in and your night was done,
- 25:56Speaker 2: what made you go through your head on the sideline
- 25:58Speaker 2: or as you're coming off the field after.
- 26:00Speaker 14: A game like that? I'm just trying to figure out
- 26:04Speaker 14: what's the issue. That's the biggest thing that I think
- 26:08Speaker 14: that's what we're trying to figure out as an offense
- 26:09Speaker 14: right now, what's the issue, and we're going to come
- 26:12Speaker 14: back tomorrow and have some talks and figure it out
- 26:16Speaker 14: and try to get this thing rolling.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Travis, do you feel like any of this is a
- 26:21Speaker 2: rhythm issue?
- 26:22Speaker 12: I know early in the game it was kind of
- 26:23Speaker 12: hard to find, and what do you feel like you
- 26:26Speaker 12: can do early in the game to try to find
- 26:29Speaker 12: that touch a little bit?
- 26:31Speaker 14: Yeah, I mean, definitely wouldn't say it's really a rhythm issue,
- 26:37Speaker 14: you know, but it would be good to kind of
- 26:43Speaker 14: get in the rhythm, but it's not, I mean, like,
- 26:45Speaker 14: we get in the rhythm sometimes, and then, you know,
- 26:49Speaker 14: kind of the momentum shifts and stuff like that, and
- 26:52Speaker 14: there's a bunch of stuff that goes into it, and, like,
- 26:55Speaker 14: I just told him, we're trying to figure it out.
- 26:56Speaker 14: We're trying to, you know, figure out what the problem is,
- 26:59Speaker 14: and we will, and we're going to get this thing
- 27:02Speaker 14: changed and turned around.
- 27:03Speaker 5: Got it.
- 27:04Speaker 14: What do you tell your teammates and.
- 27:06Speaker 5: Your team after this?
- 27:08Speaker 14: Yeah, I mean, really the only message I've given after
- 27:13Speaker 14: this game is show up. You know, we still got
- 27:14Speaker 14: to show up to practice every week and prepare for
- 27:19Speaker 14: the next opponent. You can't just give up on it
- 27:22Speaker 14: just because of, you know, how you feel. You know,
- 27:24Speaker 14: right now it's where it's bad. We're at rock bottom. But,
- 27:28Speaker 14: you know, we got to dig ourself out of this hole.
- 27:31Speaker 14: We'll send more weapons up in the back.
- 27:36Speaker 9: Marcel, how do you feel now about the SEC raising.
- 27:39Speaker 14: The chances from CFP? I still feel confident. We're early
- 27:43Speaker 14: in the season. There's a lot of other games that
- 27:46Speaker 14: go on where you see wins and losses, close games.
- 27:50Speaker 14: The SEC is the SEC. Everybody in the SEC is good.
- 27:56Speaker 14: You watch the Florida and Ole Miss game today. Ole
- 27:59Speaker 14: Miss is a good team. They beat LSU last week
- 28:02Speaker 14: and then uh, lost to a Florida team who has,
- 28:05Speaker 14: you know, jumped up a little bit. So, uh, you
- 28:07Speaker 14: never know what you're going to get. Um, it's competition
- 28:09Speaker 14: weekend and week out, but you know, we just got
- 28:11Speaker 14: to keep preparing for, you know, the next opponent we have.
- 28:14Speaker 1: You know, uh, when you listen to Marcel and you
- 28:17Speaker 1: listen to Mike Elko, there's a lot of uncertainty. It's,
- 28:24Speaker 1: you don't hear, Hey, this is, if we fix this,
- 28:28Speaker 1: you know, we're golden. Um, You know, that's a little bit.
- 28:36Speaker 4: Disturbing.
- 28:38Speaker 1: We're going to talk with the writers. We'll have time
- 28:42Speaker 1: to kind of break all of this down. It's so
- 28:45Speaker 1: much deeper than the play of the quarterback. The play
- 28:48Speaker 1: of the quarterback is one of the big issues.
- 28:51Speaker 4: There's no doubt about that.
- 28:55Speaker 1: You have to look at the new coordinators, both offense
- 28:59Speaker 1: and defense. I mean, you have to look at that
- 29:05Speaker 1: without question. You have to look at offensive line play.
- 29:12Speaker 1: They lost some good linemen a year ago. You have
- 29:14Speaker 1: to look at defensive line play, which early on I
- 29:20Speaker 1: thought looked pretty good, but the secondary has been very troublesome.
- 29:29Speaker 1: That's a unit that we thought was going to be
- 29:31Speaker 1: this strength of the defense and that Elko thought was
- 29:34Speaker 1: going to be the strength.
- 29:35Speaker 4: Of the defense. It has not been.
- 29:39Speaker 1: And at this point, you see a team that doesn't
- 29:43Speaker 1: have a lot of confidence either. And, man, confidence is–
- 29:50Speaker 1: we talk with the writers about this every week. It
- 29:53Speaker 1: is a touchy thing, you know. It comes and it goes.
- 29:59Speaker 1: And that's with athletes on every level. It comes and
- 30:05Speaker 1: it goes. And right now, this doesn't look like a
- 30:08Speaker 1: team that has a lot of confidence in what they're doing.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Nor should they after the last couple of weeks. They may,
- 30:17Speaker 1: and I emphasize just may, have an anecdote coming in Saturday.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Because Arkansas hasn't been very good.
- 30:25Speaker 4: But you know what?
- 30:26Speaker 1: The way A & M' s playing... And the way this
- 30:28Speaker 1: series has been, I asked Elko about that today, these
- 30:32Speaker 1: games have been coming down to the wire every time
- 30:34Speaker 1: they play Arkansas. I mean, every time. It's been late
- 30:40Speaker 1: fourth quarter games with Arkansas.
- 30:46Speaker 4: We're going to come back and talk a little baseball.
- 30:49Speaker 4: I hate to do it. It sucks. I'm not happy
- 30:54Speaker 4: about it.
- 30:56Speaker 1: But You know, when it's bad, it's bad. I'm going
- 31:00Speaker 1: to say it's bad. And for Ranger fans, it is bad.
- 31:07Speaker 1: The problem is, I don't know if it's going to
- 31:11Speaker 1: get any better anytime soon. That's the problem. As a
- 31:16Speaker 1: Ranger fan, I have little hope to begin with. And
- 31:20Speaker 1: I have a lot less hope right now.
- 31:24Speaker 18: Galleria.
- 31:26Speaker 1: Well, give us all hope because they're really good at
- 31:29Speaker 1: what they do. They're not like the Rangers. They win
- 31:32Speaker 1: every year. For 33 years, they have been winners. They've
- 31:36Speaker 1: won every kind of best of award that you can
- 31:39Speaker 1: win because of how they run their business. Maybe I
- 31:44Speaker 1: can get Ronda up in Arlington and straighten things.
- 31:47Speaker 4: Out up there. I believe she could do that.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Galleria has gold, silver, and bronze membership With membership comes privileges.

- 32:17Speaker 1: so much more. If you're going to a spa, there's

- 34:14Speaker 20: Chase them down to Hoodoo Hill. Chase them down to
- 34:20Speaker 20: Hoodoo Hill. Oh, I don't know about you. Oh, I
- 34:28Speaker 20: don't know about you.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Well, John Fogerty for you here on a Monday. The
- 34:33Speaker 1: Writers' Roundtable coming up. Uh, tomorrow we'll do some, uh,
- 34:39Speaker 1: other SEC teams. We'll hear from Mike Elko tomorrow. Mallory
- 34:45Speaker 1: will be here tomorrow. Scott Clendenin will be with us
- 34:49Speaker 1: on Wednesday. We've got our Clark Eisenhower outdoor show Thursday,
- 34:54Speaker 1: Kurt Bowles, Tony Catalina on Friday. Um, and, um, Probably
- 35:02Speaker 1: some surprises, not probably, always some surprises thrown in in between.
- 35:08Speaker 4: Yesterday, the Astros and.
- 35:11Speaker 1: Rangers went into the final day of the season tied up.
- 35:18Speaker 4: And it was, what, 80 and 81. They were both
- 35:25Speaker 4: 80 and 81. The Rangers had to win.
- 35:35Speaker 1: The Astros had to lose because the Astros had the
- 35:40Speaker 1: tiebreaker over the Rangers. In fact, they pounded the Rangers
- 35:46Speaker 1: this year. None of this is easy for me, honestly.
- 35:51Speaker 1: I would just as soon forget all about it. But
- 35:55Speaker 1: I have to face up to it, and I'm willing
- 35:59Speaker 1: to face up to it. the Rangers have pretty much
- 36:05Speaker 1: been terrible. It has not been a good streak. The
- 36:11Speaker 1: only saving grace as a Ranger fan will always have 2023.
- 36:19Speaker 1: And you can't take that away. But man, the other
- 36:23Speaker 1: 10 years have been awful. I will say again, that
- 36:31Speaker 1: when you fire a Hall of Fame manager and you
- 36:35Speaker 1: cut $ 33 million from your payroll, you pretty much get
- 36:41Speaker 1: what you deserve. And this team got what it deserved
- 36:47Speaker 1: this year.
- 36:49Speaker 4: They have some okay pieces. Obviously not enough.
- 36:57Speaker 1: Last year, they, last year, I mean, I still don't
- 37:02Speaker 1: know how this happened. They led the league in pitching, ERA,
- 37:08Speaker 1: and in defense. And normally speaking, in baseball, if you
- 37:14Speaker 1: lead the league in pitching and defense, not only are
- 37:19Speaker 1: you going to win more games than you lose, you're
- 37:22Speaker 1: going to be in the playoffs with a chance to
- 37:25Speaker 1: do some damage.
- 37:29Speaker 4: And They couldn't hit a fastball.
- 37:34Speaker 1: So they go out this year and they try to
- 37:36Speaker 1: get a couple of players that can hit fastballs.
- 37:43Speaker 4: That didn't work either.
- 37:45Speaker 1: And the bullpen was just horrible from start to finish.
- 37:50Speaker 1: And because of the pitching and some injuries, I will
- 37:56Speaker 1: grant a few injuries.
- 37:57Speaker 4: Everybody's got injuries.
- 37:58Speaker 2: Everybody.
- 37:59Speaker 5: Everybody.
- 38:00Speaker 1: The Astros have had more than their share of injuries, okay?
- 38:04Speaker 1: So I'm not using that as an excuse. They overcame that. Look,
- 38:10Speaker 1: they weren't good either. They were 81-81, which makes this.
- 38:14Speaker 4: Year even more frustrating.
- 38:17Speaker 1: This is a division that 500 gets you in the playoffs.
- 38:21Speaker 4: Never happened before. That's how bad this division was. And
- 38:28Speaker 4: the Rangers was like, well, we were in it until
- 38:30Speaker 4: the last day. I'm going, well, that's bull. Again, a
- 38:36Speaker 4: good manager is worth three to four games a season. Okay?
- 38:42Speaker 1: I mean, a really good manager is worth three to
- 38:44Speaker 1: four games a season. That's really undeniable if you know baseball.
- 38:53Speaker 1: I believe Bruce Bochy wins the West.
- 38:56Speaker 4: With this team and this pitching staff and this division
- 39:01Speaker 4: this year. I believe that. Because if he gets three
- 39:05Speaker 4: or four more games, the Rangers win the division. Simple
- 39:10Speaker 4: as that.
- 39:12Speaker 1: And like I said, you cut $ 33 million from your payroll,
- 39:19Speaker 1: and there's no hope on the horizons.
- 39:24Speaker 4: That Ray Davis is going to increase his payroll. No hope.
- 39:30Speaker 1: And for Ranger fans, that's disappointing, disturbing, dejecting, whatever you
- 39:40Speaker 1: want to say.
- 39:42Speaker 4: It's not good.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Defeating, um, The thing with the Astros is they are battle-tested,
- 39:53Speaker 1: and they have guys on the roster that are battle-tested.
- 39:57Speaker 1: And you expect the White Sox to win because the
- 40:01Speaker 1: Astros haven't been great all year either. But as Bill
- 40:05Speaker 1: Parcells always said, just get in the tournament, as he
- 40:09Speaker 1: called it. Just get in the tournament. The Rangers parlayed
- 40:13Speaker 1: that three years ago to a world championship as a
- 40:17Speaker 1: wild card with no hope.
- 40:19Speaker 4: No hope.
- 40:21Speaker 1: I would argue that the Rangers had less hope limping
- 40:25Speaker 1: in three years ago than the Astros do right now.
- 40:29Speaker 1: So they have a chance because they have one of
- 40:34Speaker 1: the best players in baseball, right?
- 40:37Speaker 4: They've got a closer. They have a chance. I don't
- 40:42Speaker 4: think they'll go very far, but hey, don't know. They're
- 40:46Speaker 4: in the tournament. It all starts tomorrow.
- 40:50Speaker 1: And I got to tell you, I love me some baseball,
- 40:54Speaker 1: and it sucks not to have your team in the playoffs. Now,
- 41:00Speaker 1: it's easier on me, quite frankly, because I don't care.
- 41:05Speaker 1: As long as the Astros lose, I don't care who wins. But, man,
- 41:14Speaker 1: I hate not having a dog in the fight. But, hey,
- 41:16Speaker 1: as a Rangers fan, I'm used to that. I miss
- 41:21Speaker 1: being able to go up to Arlington for playoff baseball.
- 41:26Speaker 4: That stinks, too. The whole thing stinks.
- 41:35Speaker 1: And by the way, some of you Astro fans who
- 41:38Speaker 1: we hadn't heard from since the All-Star Breaker before because
- 41:42Speaker 1: you're so terrible, and now.
- 41:45Speaker 4: You're The Rangers are losers. Look at the Astros.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Where were you the last three months talking smack? Well,
- 41:53Speaker 1: you couldn't because you were terrible. So shut up. This
- 41:58Speaker 1: is our last Astros report of the year, thankfully. Brought
- 42:01Speaker 1: to you by Oscar & Sons and Citizen State Bank.
- 42:06Speaker 13: Even a so-called minor car wreck can turn your life

- 42:15Speaker 13: of motorists all over the Brazos Valley. Patrick and Tracy

- 42:36Speaker 18: I'm Judd Nelson with your Houston Astros report. The Astros
- 42:39Speaker 18: are playoff bound after a dominant win over the A's.
- 42:42Speaker 18: Details coming up next.
- 42:44Speaker 21: Hi, I'm Dallas tax attorney Jamie Flores from the law
- 42:46Speaker 21: offices of Namath and Flores. We've successfully resolved IRS cases
- 42:50Speaker 21: for thousands of clients like Michael. Here's his story.
- 42:53Speaker 4: Hi, I'm Michael.
- 42:53Speaker 1: I had not filed a tax return in almost a decade.
- 42:57Speaker 4: I was worried that the IRS would freeze my bank accounts.
- 43:00Speaker 4: Jamie's team did not stop until everything was filed and
- 43:03Speaker 4: I was in good standing with the IRS.
- 43:05Speaker 21: Like Michael did, call the law offices of Namath and Flores,

- 43:14Speaker 18: The Houston Astros ended the regular season with a bang
- 43:17Speaker 18: as they became playoff bound with the American League West title.
- 43:20Speaker 18: Yesterday's 9-0 win over the Athletics gave the Astros a
- 43:23Speaker 18: series win in Sacramento and fully eliminated the Texas Rangers
- 43:27Speaker 18: who were previously tied with Houston. The Astros used six
- 43:30Speaker 18: pitchers in order to keep arms fresh for the postseason,
- 43:33Speaker 18: and everyone did their part by only allowing five hits combined.
- 43:36Speaker 18: Ethan Pecco received the win due to having the longest
- 43:38Speaker 18: outing of three innings. The offense operated like clockwork against
- 43:41Speaker 18: the A's with four runs scored in the third inning,
- 43:43Speaker 18: followed by three consecutive scoring efforts in the six through
- 43:46Speaker 18: eight frames. Now the Astros get today off, but return
- 43:49Speaker 18: to the field tomorrow as they host the Chicago White
- 43:51Speaker 18: Sox in the first round of the postseason. Houston performed
- 43:54Speaker 18: well against the Sox this season, taking the season series
- 43:57Speaker 18: four games to two. First pitch from Dyke and Park
- 43:59Speaker 18: is set for four tomorrow afternoon with coverage on NBC
- 44:02Speaker 18: and Peacock. With your Houston Astros report, I'm Jett Nelson.
- 44:06Speaker 16: Howdy, this is Aaron Fletcher with Citizen State Bank fighting

- 44:19Speaker 16: people making local decisions. We pride ourselves in offering big
- 44:22Speaker 16: bank products with a personal connection that only CSB can deliver.
- 44:26Speaker 16: We're proud to support the Texas A & M Aggies
- 44:28Speaker 16: this season. Citizen State Bank, local people, local decisions since 1925.
- 44:33Speaker 16: Member FDIC.
- 44:37Speaker 4: You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain. Too
- 44:40Speaker 4: much love drives a man insane. You broke my will,
- 44:45Speaker 4: but what a thrill.
- 44:46Speaker 20: Goodness gracious, great balls of fire.
- 44:50Speaker 22: That's the killer.
- 44:51Speaker 4: Welcome back. Thanks for being with us. It is a Monday.
- 44:54Speaker 4: We've got the Writer's Roundtable coming.
- 44:57Speaker 1: Up in 15 minutes or so.
- 45:04Speaker 4: Over the weekend.
- 45:05Speaker 1: Texas scraped by Tennessee 20-17. They look like the same
- 45:15Speaker 1: team we watched last year with all the penalties and
- 45:19Speaker 1: boneheaded mistakes and just stupidity.
- 45:23Speaker 4: The first two games, and they weren't playing anybody, but
- 45:26Speaker 4: they were pretty clean. The last two, they've had 18 penalties,
- 45:30Speaker 4: including 11, including 15.
- 45:33Speaker 1: Just some of the stupidest and most embarrassing. The Colin
- 45:38Speaker 1: Simmons situation could have cost them the football game, right?
- 45:43Speaker 5: Easily.
- 45:43Speaker 1: Could have cost them the football game. We're going to
- 45:49Speaker 1: hear from Sark about that.
- 45:52Speaker 9: It's 19 penalties in the last two weeks. We've got
- 45:55Speaker 9: to get back to the emphasis as a coaching staff,
- 45:57Speaker 9: the discipline in which we need to play the game.
- 45:59Speaker 9: I know there's been a lot made of Colin's penalty.
- 46:02Speaker 9: There probably could have been a couple more, truthfully. But
- 46:05Speaker 9: that's not who we are as a team, and that
- 46:07Speaker 9: behavior is unacceptable. I've met with the team about it.
- 46:11Speaker 9: I've met with Colin individually. I've met with Relique individually.
- 46:14Speaker 9: And so we'll handle those things internally. We take a
- 46:17Speaker 9: lot of pride in the way we play the game.
- 46:19Speaker 9: We take a lot of pride in us playing as
- 46:21Speaker 9: a team. We've got to learn from that. I think
- 46:23Speaker 9: Colin will. I don't think any of those actions are
- 46:26Speaker 9: indicative of the character of the young men. And I
- 46:28Speaker 9: think we'll see that as the season unfolds of who
- 46:31Speaker 9: these guys really are. And so can't let the emotions
- 46:33Speaker 9: of the game get the betterment of us because we're
- 46:35Speaker 9: going to be in other hostile environments as the season
- 46:38Speaker 9: goes on, as we all know.
- 46:40Speaker 1: So here's the deal. I'm not the coach, and I'm
- 46:44Speaker 1: not getting paid $ 12.
- 46:46Speaker 4: Million a year to win, and you have to win.
- 46:50Speaker 4: I get that.
- 46:53Speaker 1: If I had been the coach, and it's easy for
- 46:55Speaker 1: me to say this, as they replay some of the
- 47:01Speaker 1: SEC action this week, but.
- 47:06Speaker 4: When Colin Simmons pulled that trick, You remember the Mississippi
- 47:10Speaker 4: state Ole Miss game where that happened and it cost
- 47:13Speaker 4: them the football game, right? The kid simulating a dog
- 47:19Speaker 4: peeing right in the end zone. This, it was vulgar.
- 47:25Speaker 4: It was Kirk Herbstreet.
- 47:27Speaker 1: Call it idiotic. He would have been on the bench. Now,
- 47:31Speaker 1: if he's on the bench, I could make an argument.
- 47:34Speaker 1: Texas doesn't win that game. I, I don't remember exactly
- 47:38Speaker 1: when this happened. I'm thinking it was in the third
- 47:41Speaker 1: quarter of that game. I'm pretty sure it was the
- 47:43Speaker 1: third quarter of that game. And Texas was hanging on.
- 47:51Speaker 4: And I can make a case that if you bench
- 47:55Speaker 4: Colin Simmons, who ended up with five sacks, maybe Tennessee
- 48:00Speaker 4: wins that game. But I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Again, I
- 48:09Speaker 4: don't have the pressure on me to win, so I
- 48:11Speaker 4: can say that. But I'm benching him.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Beamer benched his best player, right, and just said indefinitely,
- 48:20Speaker 1: we'll discuss, he ain't playing this week. And his seat
- 48:26Speaker 1: is much harder than Sark's seat right now, right? He's
- 48:31Speaker 1: probably going to lose his job. And maybe you can say, well,
- 48:35Speaker 1: he's going to lose his job. He might as well
- 48:37Speaker 1: make a statement in the process. I don't see that.
- 48:41Speaker 1: But I guarantee I put his rear end on the bench.
- 48:46Speaker 1: If we lose, you let the players deal with him
- 48:51Speaker 1: being stupid. Or, and maybe they will, I doubt it,
- 48:57Speaker 1: you run the whole defense until their tongues hang out today. Or,
- 49:02Speaker 1: even better, early Sunday morning after they get home at
- 49:07Speaker 1: 1 a.m.
- 49:08Speaker 4: Sunday morning, Saturday night. You say, boys, 6 a.m., everybody here.
- 49:13Speaker 5: In the morning.
- 49:14Speaker 1: We're going to run a little bit. And you make
- 49:16Speaker 1: the whole defense run, and you make him be out
- 49:20Speaker 1: in front.
- 49:23Speaker 4: That's just me.
- 49:24Speaker 1: Hey, you know, you can say we're not going to
- 49:28Speaker 1: tolerate it. You can say I'll deal with it, and
- 49:34Speaker 1: maybe they will.
- 49:35Speaker 4: I don't know that. Maybe they will.
- 49:39Speaker 1: But that won't fly. his butt's on the bench if
- 49:43Speaker 1: I'm the head coach. Like I said, am I willing
- 49:49Speaker 1: to give up a game for my principals? I mean,
- 49:56Speaker 1: tough call, but hey, are you or are you not? Okay,
- 50:02Speaker 1: we're going to hear from Lane Kiffin now.
- 50:04Speaker 17: You're playing the SEC, what, two teams that were ranked
- 50:08Speaker 17: coming in in the top 25, and so They win
- 50:11Speaker 17: 35-6 and really kind of dominating numbers, 500 yards to 197.
- 50:15Speaker 5: Like I said.
- 50:18Speaker 17: In the first game, when those things happen, that's a
- 50:20Speaker 17: lot of people doing things right. That makes me feel
- 50:22Speaker 17: really good as a coach that they responded well and
- 50:25Speaker 17: that they prepared really well. You'll hear me up there.
- 50:28Speaker 17: We'll probably have some games some days that I think
- 50:30Speaker 17: we don't play very well, and the kick goes in
- 50:32Speaker 17: at the end. That doesn't mean that we were really
- 50:34Speaker 17: prepared well or guys were really focused when that happens.
- 50:38Speaker 17: So this, much like the opener, which was a challenge
- 50:41Speaker 17: to them to just forget everything else, forget last week,
- 50:44Speaker 17: forget rankings. You know, I felt like our guys played
- 50:46Speaker 17: great in the opener because they were just excited to play.
- 50:50Speaker 17: They were excited to come together as a team and
- 50:52Speaker 17: go out there and play in their first game in
- 50:53Speaker 17: Tiger Stadium. And I feel like, in a way, they
- 50:56Speaker 17: played very similar today to that, suffocating defense, which is
- 50:59Speaker 17: what we talked about all week to try to put
- 51:02Speaker 17: this quarterback in and did a really good job defensively.
- 51:08Speaker 17: You know, I think that that was big for the
- 51:09Speaker 17: few people that were here last year, especially Blake for
- 51:12Speaker 17: the last two years, you know, to play that way
- 51:15Speaker 17: and limit Marcel, whatever he had on here, minus yards rushing,
- 51:19Speaker 17: I think. Good game plan and guys doing a lot
- 51:22Speaker 17: of things right. And guys fighting through injuries. I mean,
- 51:25Speaker 17: like we kind of joked, but it really happened. The
- 51:27Speaker 17: injury helped that too. If I know I can't run,
- 51:31Speaker 17: I told him, you now are like the old school
- 51:33Speaker 17: pro style passer that knew.
- 51:34Speaker 5: He couldn't run. He better throw it on time or
- 51:36Speaker 5: he's going to get sacked.
- 51:38Speaker 17: And so, you know, we say all the time some
- 51:42Speaker 17: things happen that have a cost but also have a benefit.
- 51:45Speaker 18: Coach, Witt had his procedure today.
- 51:48Speaker 12: Do you guys have a better idea of his timeline
- 51:53Speaker 12: now that that's over with?
- 51:56Speaker 5: I don't exactly. I just know he'll be out a while.
- 51:59Speaker 17: And that's a tough one, not just because obviously the
- 52:02Speaker 17: impact of the team.
- 52:03Speaker 5: I mean, look to last year. Look at this one.
- 52:06Speaker 17: Points per game when he played versus when he didn't
- 52:09Speaker 17: last year. It's not just because of the player that
- 52:11Speaker 17: he is, it's the mentality and what he brings around
- 52:13Speaker 17: him and how he is. That's really probably why I
- 52:18Speaker 17: was in the mood that I was in after the game,
- 52:21Speaker 17: just knowing the impact and feeling horrible for him after
- 52:24Speaker 17: him coming back to have this great year to get
- 52:28Speaker 17: LSU fixed, to get the defense fixed, and then here
- 52:31Speaker 17: it is right in the middle of being fixed and
- 52:34Speaker 17: playing great and And this happens in, again, a freak
- 52:38Speaker 17: injury of.
- 52:39Speaker 1: He's talking about Whit Weeks, the linebacker, the green dot guy,
- 52:44Speaker 1: the quarterback of the defense.
- 52:49Speaker 4: Dusty and I had this conversation.
- 52:51Speaker 1: You know, probably not the best player on defense, certainly
- 52:54Speaker 1: not the best athlete on defense, but.
- 52:56Speaker 4: He's the quarterback guy. He's the glue guy. Huge loss.
- 53:00Speaker 4: Broken fibula. Probably be out a month at least. Maybe more.
- 53:07Speaker 4: As we mentioned, had surgery this morning.
- 53:10Speaker 1: They were already down defensive back and the star guy's safety.
- 53:16Speaker 1: So they're banged up. There's no doubt about it. I
- 53:19Speaker 1: still don't know how good this LSU team is. I'll
- 53:22Speaker 1: be honest with you. Their D-line is good. They were solid.
- 53:27Speaker 1: They're much better coached, you can tell, than a year ago.
- 53:31Speaker 1: But And Kiffin was talking about the fact that Sam
- 53:38Speaker 1: Levitt was playing on one leg and it may have
- 53:40Speaker 1: helped him because he knew he couldn't scramble. He had
- 53:43Speaker 1: to stay back there and find receivers. And, you know,
- 53:47Speaker 1: he ended up having a really good game. But there
- 53:52Speaker 1: were also guys running free there again. We saw that
- 53:57Speaker 1: last week with the secondary defense. Levitt was 17 for
- 54:02Speaker 1: 23 for 312 yards and two touchdowns.
- 54:07Speaker 4: Okay?
- 54:10Speaker 1: Scrambled five times for 22 yards. Fortunately for LSU, they
- 54:15Speaker 1: play McNeese this week. So they'll get to rest some guys,
- 54:20Speaker 1: you would think. But they're banged up a little on
- 54:26Speaker 1: the defensive side already. That Ole Miss game was physical.
- 54:31Speaker 4: You could tell from how Ole Miss ended up against
- 54:35Speaker 4: Florida this week. They just got run over by Florida.
- 54:41Speaker 4: I mean run over.
- 54:43Speaker 1: It kind of looked like A & M and Kentucky
- 54:45Speaker 1: a week ago, quite frankly.
- 54:47Speaker 4: They just got bullied. And without Kiwan Lacy, huge loss.
- 54:54Speaker 1: In my mind, the best running back. You can make
- 54:57Speaker 1: a case for Jaden.
- 54:59Speaker 4: Baugh as well, for sure.
- 55:02Speaker 1: But if Bob's not the best running back in the country,
- 55:04Speaker 1: Lacey is, and they're missing him big time. I thought
- 55:08Speaker 1: Trinidad Chambliss would overcome that because he's that good, but
- 55:12Speaker 1: he could not. And Florida looks like a different team.
- 55:17Speaker 4: So there you go. That's a little, uh, wrap up. Uh,
- 55:23Speaker 4: we're getting ready for the writers round table coming your way. Um,
- 55:28Speaker 4: We've got lots of questions.
- 55:30Speaker 1: I can't guarantee we're going to have answers, but it
- 55:35Speaker 1: is Overreaction Monday, and this is what we do. Oliver
