- 1:07Speaker 1: you can. One of Dolly's classics. One of the great
- 1:12Speaker 1: songs ever written to start the show today. This portion
- 1:17Speaker 1: of the program brought to you by Radiant Dentistry. Glad
- 1:20Speaker 1: to have you along. We have a full show today,
- 1:25Speaker 1: as a matter of fact. We have got Caleb's high
- 1:28Speaker 1: school report at the bottom of the hour. We're going
- 1:30Speaker 1: to hear from a couple of Aggie athletes. Jordan Shaw, football. P.J. Haggerty, basketball.
- 1:38Speaker 1: The great Steve Sarkeesian and Mike Elko and Mallory Entertainment segment.
- 1:46Speaker 1: for us in the second hour of the program. So
- 1:50Speaker 1: we've got all of that going for you, which is nice.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Let's see. What else we got? Well, Eli Drinkwitz, the
- 2:01Speaker 1: head coach at Missouri, was asked about running back Ahmad Hardy,
- 2:06Speaker 1: who has been out all year. Hardy suffered a gunshot
- 2:09Speaker 1: wound during the summertime. All-American a year ago has not
- 2:13Speaker 1: played this year. Said Drinkwits, kiddingly, we think, contrary to
- 2:21Speaker 1: what's on the cesspool of message boards. There's no update.
- 2:27Speaker 1: He hasn't begun a two-week ramp-up. If he practices, I
- 2:31Speaker 1: promise I'll tweet it out. I won't even get it
- 2:35Speaker 1: to Pete Thamel. We'll just do it ourselves. It ain't
- 2:44Speaker 1: going away. You know, I think Cease and Rusty said
- 2:47Speaker 1: that yesterday. I'm not sure I believed him, but it's
- 2:52Speaker 1: not going away anytime soon. Mississippi State quarterback Camario Taylor's
- 2:56Speaker 1: status for the game against LSU is up in the air,
- 3:02Speaker 1: according to Pete Thamel. A decision on whether he'll play
- 3:06Speaker 1: will be made later in the week. Taylor dealing with
- 3:10Speaker 1: a foot injury he suffered in the win over Missouri.
- 3:15Speaker 1: headed to the locker room early in the fourth quarter
- 3:18Speaker 1: of this past week's loss, or two weeks ago, lost
- 3:21Speaker 1: to Alabama. He was replaced in that game by freshman
- 3:26Speaker 1: backup Parker Puckett. Taylor had been limited in practice since
- 3:32Speaker 1: the loss to Bama, according to Thamel. Jeff Lebby said
- 3:36Speaker 1: at his news conference yesterday, the SEC availability report Wednesday said,
- 3:44Speaker 1: would provide an update. Meanwhile, Florida State freshman cornerback Chuck Keenan,
- 3:51Speaker 1: the Seminoles' top-rated recruit this year, has been kicked off
- 3:56Speaker 1: the team for conduct detrimental. The school confirming his dismissal today, Sarasota,
- 4:03Speaker 1: Florida native, no longer listed on the roster as of
- 4:08Speaker 1: this morning. He played only one snap this year against Virginia.
- 4:15Speaker 1: The 6'2, 175-pound Keenan played receiver and defensive back in
- 4:20Speaker 1: high school. He was the sixth-ranked cornerback in the class.
- 4:25Speaker 1: He chose Florida State over Florida, Georgia, LSU, Miami, and Oregon.
- 4:31Speaker 1: The Seminoles play at Miami Saturday night. Hey, Miami's playing
- 4:37Speaker 1: on a Saturday, not on a Friday. People may get
- 4:41Speaker 1: to watch them, what I think is the number one
- 4:44Speaker 1: team in the country. Oregon defensive tackle Bear Alexander will
- 4:50Speaker 1: not face discipline for what Ducks coach Dan Lanning said
- 4:54Speaker 1: was a late attempt to punch the ball out from
- 4:59Speaker 1: quarterback Nico Imaliava. As Imaliava was tackled in the second quarter,
- 5:06Speaker 1: replays showed Alexander twist the quarterback's helmet and and swing
- 5:12Speaker 1: his right arm, striking the quarterback on the chin. He
- 5:18Speaker 1: did not jar the ball loose. He suffered a knee
- 5:22Speaker 1: injury on that play and may be out for the season.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Bob Chesney, the UCLA coach, did not see the punch live,
- 5:32Speaker 1: but noted Amaliava said he was being punched. When you
- 5:37Speaker 1: see it, it's certainly egregious, says Chesney. It shouldn't be
- 5:43Speaker 1: a play that is allowed to occur in this sport,
- 5:46Speaker 1: and it's a shame that it was missed. That crew
- 5:50Speaker 1: missed other calls in that particular game and was called
- 5:56Speaker 1: out by the league, as was the Alabama Georgia crew.
- 6:01Speaker 1: who the league announced yesterday was suspended because of the
- 6:06Speaker 1: missed pass interference call late in the game that may
- 6:11Speaker 1: have swung the difference in that Georgia victory. James Madison
- 6:18Speaker 1: has been accepted into the American Conference and a unanimous
- 6:23Speaker 1: vote of the American CEOs. They'll join the league as
- 6:28Speaker 1: a full member no later than July 1st of 2028.
- 6:33Speaker 1: The American Conference full membership has Alabama, Birmingham, Charlotte, quick,
- 6:41Speaker 1: name them all, Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, North Texas, Rice,
- 6:48Speaker 1: South Florida, Temple, UT San Antonio, Tulane, Tulsa, Wichita State,
- 6:55Speaker 1: In football, it includes Army and Navy. Wichita State doesn't
- 7:00Speaker 1: play football. They play basketball, of course. The entrance fee
- 7:05Speaker 1: is $ 23 million. James Madison will get an American TV
- 7:12Speaker 1: postseason NCAA share in line with the recent additions to
- 7:17Speaker 1: the league. The entry fee is expected... And the expected
- 7:23Speaker 1: $ 5 million departure fee from the Sun Belt is privately raised.
- 7:31Speaker 1: The Sun Belt is in meetings to up the exit fee.
- 7:38Speaker 1: So JMU wanted to do it before they approved that.
- 7:44Speaker 1: There's football tonight. Delaware and Middle Tennessee. Florida International and
- 7:53Speaker 1: Jacksonville State. I'm not kidding. There's a doubleheader tonight in
- 7:58Speaker 1: college football. And by the way, phone the neighbors, wake
- 8:05Speaker 1: the kids, coming up in the second hour, I'm going
- 8:10Speaker 1: to explain the Citadel to you. Mascot, head coach, what
- 8:16Speaker 1: conference they're from, many of you I don't think could
- 8:22Speaker 1: tell me, even if there was money on the line.
- 8:27Speaker 1: There's only one Major League Baseball playoff game tonight. That
- 8:32Speaker 1: is in Tampa, where the Guardians took a one-game-to-none lead
- 8:39Speaker 1: last night against a home-standing Rays.
- 8:44Speaker 3: The.
- 8:46Speaker 1: L.A.-Milwaukee series moves to Los Angeles game three tomorrow night.
- 8:52Speaker 1: The Dodgers, the two-time defending world champion Dodgers, are down
- 9:00Speaker 1: two games to none. You know, we're not sure LSU
- 9:08Speaker 1: and Will Wade are going to field a men's basketball
- 9:11Speaker 1: team this year. We don't know if they have any
- 9:15Speaker 1: players on the roster. So it's a little dubious when
- 9:22Speaker 1: they were due at the SEC media days today, but
- 9:29Speaker 1: announced that a ground stop due to fog in Baton
- 9:34Speaker 1: Rouge delayed their flight too much to get them to
- 9:41Speaker 1: the media days. On time. That announcement, by the way,
- 9:47Speaker 1: was made this morning. Zoom availability, maybe, for the reporters
- 9:58Speaker 1: covering the basket. media days. A & M' s tomorrow, by
- 10:04Speaker 1: the way. And it's a day of hockey in the NHL.
- 10:10Speaker 1: I believe every team is playing. 32 teams, 16 NHL games,
- 10:17Speaker 1: including on ESPN. The Colorado Avalanche and the Dallas Stars.
- 10:27Speaker 1: A long time rivalry between two teams who know how
- 10:34Speaker 1: to put the biscuit in the basket. So that is tonight.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to that. I will be watching as many,
- 10:45Speaker 1: I'm sure you people will. And if you need help
- 10:49Speaker 1: with the rules of the game, Let me know. Don't
- 10:54Speaker 1: call me at home. My number's unlisted, and I don't
- 10:56Speaker 1: want you bothering me. But if you watch the game
- 11:00Speaker 1: and don't understand anything that's going on, give me a call,
- 11:04Speaker 1: and I'll try to explain some of it to you.
- 11:06Speaker 1: It's not that complicated. Trust me. There's a new book out,
- 11:14Speaker 1: a new biography of the great Bob Newhart. We're going
- 11:18Speaker 1: to have the author on here in the next few days.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I will let you know when exactly. Perhaps as early
- 11:24Speaker 1: as Thursday. Bill O'Reilly is going to join me two
- 11:32Speaker 1: weeks from yesterday. A week from this coming Monday, I believe.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I know. It's a while, but I want it on
- 11:37Speaker 1: your calendar. He has a new book out called Confronting America.
- 11:44Speaker 3: So.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Big Bill O'Reilly is back with us. I always enjoy
- 11:48Speaker 1: his books, and I always enjoy talking to him. Okay,
- 11:54Speaker 1: we're going to take a break. We're going to hear
- 11:56Speaker 1: from the great Steve Sarkeesian, Longhorns coach, after this for
- 12:01Speaker 1: Chad Jones Law.
- 12:03Speaker 5: I'm Chad Jones. We know sports injuries hurt, and so
- 12:06Speaker 5: do injuries from car wrecks. But you didn't sign up
- 12:08Speaker 5: to be in a car wreck with someone who wasn't
- 12:10Speaker 5: paying attention. It was their fault. And now you're left
- 12:12Speaker 5: to deal with the consequences. You need to see a
- 12:14Speaker 5: doctor and you're missing work. Chad Jones Law can help.
- 12:17Speaker 5: We've been helping our neighbors for more than two decades.
- 12:20Speaker 5: Stop getting frustrated with the other side's foot dragging. Remember,
- 12:23Speaker 5: don't get mad. Get Chad. Call Chad Jones Law at

- 12:27Speaker 6: 30 minutes after the clock sits zero at Kyle Field
- 12:35Speaker 6: this Saturday, it's the Carney's Pub call-in show brought to
- 12:37Speaker 6: you by techsags.com.

- 12:46Speaker 7: relax with family and friends and catch all the action
- 12:49Speaker 7: of a college football.
- 12:50Speaker 8: Saturday.
- 12:50Speaker 7: Carney's Pub voted the best pub and best patio in
- 12:53Speaker 7: the best of the Brazos Valley. It's the Carney's Pub
- 12:57Speaker 7: Call-In Show brought to you by techsags.com here on the
- 13:00Speaker 7: Zone 1150 AM and 93.7 FM.
- 13:02Speaker 9: Some people say a man is made out of mud.
- 13:13Speaker 9: A poor man's made out of muscle and blood, muscle
- 13:17Speaker 9: and blood and skin and bones.
- 13:19Speaker 1: I think we established last week that that song was
- 13:25Speaker 1: on the charts in 1955. That's Tennessee Ernie Ford loading
- 13:31Speaker 1: 16 tons. Scott Clendenin will join us on the show tomorrow.
- 13:36Speaker 1: On Thursday, we'll have the Clark Eisenhower Outdoor Edition, a
- 13:41Speaker 1: special guest on Thursday. Captain Dano Wise will be with us.
- 13:48Speaker 1: This guy, I don't know when he sleeps, but he's
- 13:52Speaker 1: an artist, a wildlife photographer, a writer. A contributor to
- 14:00Speaker 1: many outdoor magazines, a travel editor and writer, and on
- 14:07Speaker 1: the side, he's a fishing guide who does primarily fly
- 14:12Speaker 1: fishing and some light tackle fishing. Used to be based
- 14:16Speaker 1: for years and years out of South Padre, now has
- 14:21Speaker 1: moved to the coastal bend of the Rockport, Port Aransas area.
- 14:25Speaker 1: and works out of there. Dana Wise will join us
- 14:29Speaker 1: on the show on Thursday. And I have to confirm this.
- 14:34Speaker 1: I think this is correct. On Friday, Caleb is going
- 14:38Speaker 1: to be in. Ryan is going to be out on Friday.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Stan says, yes, that's true. But don't fear. I will
- 14:48Speaker 1: have my regular Friday guests with Kurt Bowles, who I'm
- 14:56Speaker 1: sure everything is calm and even in Austin. And we'll
- 15:01Speaker 1: talk to Kirk on Friday. And Tony Catalina of 247
- 15:07Speaker 1: Sports will join us with our Aggie football preview on Friday. Okay.
- 15:15Speaker 1: As promised, one of the great college coaches in the world,
- 15:19Speaker 1: Steve Sarkeesian.
- 15:22Speaker 10: Glad I got a chance to be with the team
- 15:23Speaker 10: this morning. Obviously, there's a level of Disappointment, frustration coming
- 15:28Speaker 10: out of the ballgame. First and foremost, I want to
- 15:31Speaker 10: thank our fans. I thought our fans were tremendous Saturday
- 15:34Speaker 10: going to Dallas, supporting us. Appreciate all that they do.
- 15:38Speaker 10: Great to get back to DKR this weekend. The idea
- 15:42Speaker 10: that the success we've had at home with the 12-game
- 15:46Speaker 10: winning streak, I think 23-1 in our last 24 games,
- 15:50Speaker 10: the friendly confines of DKR are important. As we touched
- 15:54Speaker 10: on Saturday, our ability to create turnovers is critical to
- 15:57Speaker 10: our success. We've got a 26-game streak of creating a
- 16:03Speaker 10: turnover at DKR, so we've got to continue that. Saturday,
- 16:06Speaker 10: that's going to be important to what we do. But ultimately,
- 16:10Speaker 10: I think getting back to playing our brand, our style
- 16:12Speaker 10: of football. A lot of times, adversity strikes, and we
- 16:17Speaker 10: can all feel bad about it. I view it as
- 16:19Speaker 10: an opportunity for us to really grow and get better
- 16:22Speaker 10: I think we can capitalize on this adversity, make us stronger,
- 16:26Speaker 10: make us better, and reap the benefits of this adversity
- 16:29Speaker 10: in November and into December.
- 16:31Speaker 11: So looking forward to that opportunity.
- 16:33Speaker 12: I think this is start 21 for Arch, so a
- 16:35Speaker 12: little over a season and a half worth of starts
- 16:37Speaker 12: in his career. Just in your experience as a quarterback and,
- 16:39Speaker 12: of course, having coached many quarterbacks, can you talk about
- 16:43Speaker 12: that time period in terms of kind of taking their
- 16:45Speaker 12: development and going from stretches of great play to consistency
- 16:48Speaker 12: in terms of that?
- 16:51Speaker 10: Yeah, I mean, I think everybody's a little bit different.
- 16:53Speaker 10: Everybody's path, everybody's journey is different. The players around you
- 16:56Speaker 10: are different, so on and so forth. I think Arch, again,
- 17:00Speaker 10: is on a nice trajectory.
- 17:03Speaker 11: I hate it for him.
- 17:04Speaker 10: He has two interceptions in the fourth quarter of that
- 17:06Speaker 10: game when, quite frankly, I thought he played pretty good
- 17:09Speaker 10: up until that point. And that's the frustrating part, but
- 17:12Speaker 10: that's the level of consistency that's needed. We know he
- 17:15Speaker 10: can be really good in critical moments. We saw that
- 17:17Speaker 10: here against Ohio State. We saw it in a fourth
- 17:20Speaker 10: quarter drive against Tennessee. So just getting him back to that,
- 17:23Speaker 10: playing with confidence and trusting his ability and the guys
- 17:26Speaker 10: around him.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Sorry, you mentioned the takeaways at DKR.
- 17:31Speaker 11: I don't think you've had any in the two SEC games.
- 17:33Speaker 1: Is there anything different? I mean, Less punching the ball.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Have you noticed anything on film?
- 17:37Speaker 11: Yeah, I think that's the hard part. You know, we
- 17:39Speaker 11: emphasize it. We preach it. We go after it.
- 17:43Speaker 10: We do multiple drills in practice. And so I think,
- 17:46Speaker 10: you know, the turnover margin is twofold, right? One, our
- 17:48Speaker 10: ability to take care of the ball. Two, our ability
- 17:51Speaker 10: to create those turnovers. And so we've been playing really
- 17:54Speaker 10: good defense. Do not get me wrong. Like, fantastic defense.
- 17:57Speaker 10: How do we go to another level? We've got to
- 17:59Speaker 10: get the ball off of people. And we are more
- 18:01Speaker 10: than capable of doing that. We've got to continue to
- 18:04Speaker 10: emphasize it. I always say, like, I talk about the
- 18:06Speaker 10: dam on offense getting ready to break. I think the
- 18:09Speaker 10: dam in creating turnovers defensively is getting.
- 18:11Speaker 11: Ready to break.
- 18:11Speaker 10: But we've got to keep preaching it. We've got to
- 18:13Speaker 10: keep practicing it. We've got to keep going after it.
- 18:16Speaker 10: And I really believe that. When we get one, we're
- 18:18Speaker 10: going to get two. When we get two, we're going
- 18:20Speaker 10: to get three.
- 18:24Speaker 13: Steve, you said immediately after the game that you didn't
- 18:27Speaker 13: plan to make any changes or reassign anything in terms
- 18:29Speaker 13: of special teams coaching. I guess the follow-up on that
- 18:32Speaker 13: would be why or why not, and do you have
- 18:35Speaker 13: any particular philosophy as a coach about making a change
- 18:37Speaker 13: like that during midseason?
- 18:38Speaker 10: Well, I think history is the best indicator of the future,
- 18:43Speaker 10: and we've been good on special teams for quite.
- 18:46Speaker 11: Some time around here.
- 18:47Speaker 10: I have a lot of faith in Coach Banks and
- 18:50Speaker 10: his schemes, and I have a lot of faith in
- 18:52Speaker 10: our players to get that done. Sometimes you go through
- 18:55Speaker 10: lulls like you do on offense or like you do
- 18:57Speaker 10: on defense, and I don't question our ability to coach
- 19:02Speaker 10: our way out of that, you know, compete our way
- 19:04Speaker 10: out of that to get back to the standard of
- 19:06Speaker 10: which we play special teams.
- 19:10Speaker 14: Steve, you've been very clear about your play calling duties
- 19:13Speaker 14: and not giving them up.
- 19:14Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 19:14Speaker 14: How would you assess your play calling? Would you say,
- 19:17Speaker 14: and just, is there a disconnect with this offense? You
- 19:20Speaker 14: have seems seem to have so much talent.
- 19:22Speaker 10: Well, you know, I think this, you know, like I
- 19:25Speaker 10: was just talking about that on special teams. I think
- 19:27Speaker 10: you can go through, um, Evan flows of, you know,
- 19:31Speaker 10: rhythm and scheme and tying it all together and the
- 19:35Speaker 10: personnel and all those things. And so clearly we've been
- 19:38Speaker 10: just a little bit off. I think we're close and
- 19:42Speaker 10: that's the encouraging part.
- 19:43Speaker 11: And I think we can get there. And so that's,
- 19:46Speaker 11: the challenge.
- 19:47Speaker 10: I think, like anything, when you think about a play caller,
- 19:52Speaker 10: you think about a great player, you think about a
- 19:55Speaker 10: great offense, we always think about the best things that
- 19:57Speaker 10: they've ever done.
- 19:58Speaker 11: And there's always moments.
- 20:00Speaker 10: Throughout a year where you maybe have lulls, and our
- 20:03Speaker 10: job is to work our way through that lull. We're
- 20:05Speaker 10: always going to get held to the standard of what
- 20:07Speaker 10: we can be, and that's our job to work through
- 20:09Speaker 10: this lull that we're in to be as explosive of
- 20:12Speaker 10: an offense that we can be.
- 20:14Speaker 4: Back here on the left, Danny.
- 20:16Speaker 13: Steve, at the end of this first half, it seemed
- 20:17Speaker 13: like Derek Cooper kind of found something in the running
- 20:19Speaker 13: game within only two carries in the second half.
- 20:21Speaker 11: Was that more of a game flow kind of thing?
- 20:23Speaker 11: What does he need to do to kind of earn
- 20:25Speaker 11: more play time?
- 20:25Speaker 10: Yeah, no, I think it was a game flow. It's
- 20:27Speaker 10: hard when you've got three backs and you're trying to
- 20:29Speaker 10: rotate them in there. It's a little bit of a
- 20:32Speaker 10: different world for me that way where historically we've had
- 20:35Speaker 10: kind of one guy with a backup, and now we're
- 20:37Speaker 10: trying to, incorporate three guys, and they're all very talented
- 20:41Speaker 10: players to their own right.
- 20:43Speaker 11: Derek is earning more opportunities.
- 20:45Speaker 10: Obviously, he was coming off of the injury, and so
- 20:48Speaker 10: the more he continues to do, the more opportunities he'll get.
- 20:50Speaker 16: Coach, just following up on the offense, why do you
- 20:56Speaker 16: think it's not clicking the way that you probably would
- 20:58Speaker 16: be hoping for? Are players not executing in the way
- 21:01Speaker 16: that you're scheming out, or do you feel like you
- 21:03Speaker 16: could do better?
- 21:04Speaker 11: I think I always can do better. You know, I
- 21:06Speaker 11: always look at myself first.
- 21:08Speaker 10: My job is to put our players in the best
- 21:10Speaker 10: position to be successful. And if we're not hitting on
- 21:13Speaker 10: all cylinders, if we're having three and outs, if we're
- 21:16Speaker 10: turning the ball over, clearly I have to look at
- 21:18Speaker 10: what we're doing and what we're asking of them to
- 21:21Speaker 10: do first. And then are they executing what we're asking
- 21:24Speaker 10: of them to do? And are those things that we're
- 21:26Speaker 10: asking them to do things that they do well? And
- 21:29Speaker 10: so I think it's a combination of all that. But ultimately,
- 21:32Speaker 10: that's my job, and I take full responsibility of that.
- 21:35Speaker 1: On the far right, Chip.
- 21:37Speaker 17: Steve, Arch, in terms of his processing, how would you
- 21:42Speaker 17: assess what he's seeing right now at this point in
- 21:46Speaker 17: his career? And if his name wasn't Manning, would it
- 21:50Speaker 17: be not all these incredible expectations on him and him
- 21:56Speaker 17: getting compared to being a first-round draft pick?
- 21:59Speaker 10: Um, you know, I, I think that he's processing fine.
- 22:02Speaker 10: You know, again, I think playing really good offensive football
- 22:05Speaker 10: is all 11 playing 11 is one.
- 22:08Speaker 11: I think it's scheme.
- 22:09Speaker 10: I think it's the, the momentum of the game. I
- 22:12Speaker 10: think if you took the name off the back of
- 22:15Speaker 10: his Jersey and you said, here's, you know, Joe Smith
- 22:19Speaker 10: playing quarterback at the university of Texas and, here's a
- 22:22Speaker 10: guy who's beaten four top 10 ranked teams in his
- 22:25Speaker 10: last 13 starts. Um, we'd be praising the guy, but
- 22:29Speaker 10: the expectations are high for him, but he understands that
- 22:31Speaker 10: the expectations are high for all of us. So we
- 22:34Speaker 10: gotta get, we gotta put our nose back to the
- 22:35Speaker 10: grind and get back to work.
- 22:38Speaker 9: I know we've talked a lot about penalties over the
- 22:39Speaker 9: last couple of years, but why do you think some
- 22:41Speaker 9: of those undisciplined tendencies keep kind of rearing their ugly head?
- 22:45Speaker 11: Gosh, it's frustrating.
- 22:46Speaker 10: Um, I will say that, um, Some of them are
- 22:50Speaker 10: unfortunate timing. Some of them are guys trying a little
- 22:54Speaker 10: too hard to make a play. When we're jumping off
- 22:56Speaker 10: sides at defensive end, we're trying to get to the quarterback.
- 23:00Speaker 10: You know, Biles is trying to, you know, he sees
- 23:04Speaker 10: a double pass. He's trying to go make a play.
- 23:06Speaker 10: He's not trying to hit the guy in the head,
- 23:08Speaker 10: and that can happen. Cade Phillips, I thought, made a
- 23:11Speaker 10: heck of a play in the back of the end zone. Unfortunately,
- 23:14Speaker 10: they said he had his hand on his shoulder. So
- 23:16Speaker 10: some of those are unfortunate.
- 23:18Speaker 11: Some of them I think you could deem undisciplined.
- 23:21Speaker 10: I didn't think we had undisciplined penalties on Saturday, maybe
- 23:25Speaker 10: like we had the week before at Tennessee.
- 23:27Speaker 11: So did we get better?
- 23:28Speaker 18: Yes.
- 23:29Speaker 11: Was it good enough?
- 23:29Speaker 19: No.
- 23:30Speaker 3: On the right, Cedric.
- 23:32Speaker 20: Hey, Steve. Three ranked teams in SEC lost to unranked
- 23:37Speaker 20: teams this week, and it kind of, shows how deep
- 23:41Speaker 20: the league is. How much does that ramp up the
- 23:43Speaker 20: urgency to not stub your toe again against Florida?
- 23:46Speaker 10: Well, I think, yeah, I think that's the key in
- 23:49Speaker 10: the Southeastern Conference. You know, this league requires a lot
- 23:54Speaker 10: of you. It requires the physicality that's needed. It requires
- 23:59Speaker 10: a relentless pursuit of effort to try to win. It
- 24:03Speaker 10: requires mental and physical toughness. It requires a line of
- 24:06Speaker 10: scrimmage on both sides of the ball to be really good.
- 24:09Speaker 10: It requires you to be at your best when your
- 24:11Speaker 10: best is needed in the fourth quarter of games.
- 24:14Speaker 11: The coaching is really good. The players are really good.
- 24:16Speaker 10: The environments you go into are tough. And so how
- 24:20Speaker 10: do you capture the focus of your team on a Monday,
- 24:25Speaker 10: carry that through throughout the week, and then come out.
- 24:28Speaker 11: Of the locker room on Saturday ready to go? That's
- 24:30Speaker 11: the challenge for all of us. And this week's no different.
- 24:32Speaker 11: This Florida team is very good.
- 24:34Speaker 10: I mean, they beat a top-ten-ranked Ole Miss team by
- 24:38Speaker 10: whatever it was early in the year, so we know what.
- 24:40Speaker 11: They're capable of.
- 24:41Speaker 10: Our job is to play to our standard and what
- 24:43Speaker 10: we're capable of so that regardless of how.
- 24:46Speaker 11: They play, what they're.
- 24:48Speaker 10: Getting from us is the best of the Texas Longhorns,
- 24:51Speaker 10: and that's what we need to focus on.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Part of what Steve Sarkeesian had to say at his
- 24:56Speaker 1: weekly news conference– Kirk asked him if there was a
- 25:02Speaker 1: disconnect between the offense and the amount of talent. Not
- 25:12Speaker 1: too subtle, but I guess subtle enough. Sark says they're
- 25:18Speaker 1: just a little off. Kirk wrote this week that they're
- 25:20Speaker 1: more than a little off. Their offense statistics are not good.
- 25:28Speaker 1: They're a lot like Texas A & M. Maybe slightly
- 25:32Speaker 1: better in statistics, but not much. Questions about Arch. If
- 25:41Speaker 1: his name was Joe Smith, not as much attention would
- 25:46Speaker 1: be given. Probably true. I mean, true, but not a
- 25:52Speaker 1: lot of improvement in game 21 or whatever it's been now,
- 25:56Speaker 1: especially for a coach with a reputation. For offense. Called the,
- 26:08Speaker 1: said the special teams. He has full confidence in special
- 26:13Speaker 1: team coach Jeff Banks, who used to be here. They've
- 26:17Speaker 1: been terrible the last two years, actually. Said things are
- 26:21Speaker 1: just a little off. They're in a lull. You may
- 26:25Speaker 1: be in a lull for one game, but you're not
- 26:27Speaker 1: in a lull for, you know, a year and a
- 26:30Speaker 1: half worth. Same with the running game. So things aren't
- 26:36Speaker 1: great in Austin right now. Florida coming in on Saturday.
- 26:40Speaker 1: The Gators have not played defense very well. I was
- 26:42Speaker 1: looking at some defensive points allowed statistics. I have to
- 26:47Speaker 1: go by average and not total points because some teams
- 26:51Speaker 1: have played five games and some teams have played six
- 26:54Speaker 1: games so far. Georgia's giving up. 14 points a game.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Oklahoma's giving up 14 points a game. Tennessee, 15 points
- 27:05Speaker 1: a game. Their schedule wasn't great early. Texas, 16 points
- 27:10Speaker 1: a game. A & M, 20 points a game. Not terrible. Alabama,
- 27:16Speaker 1: 20 points a game. Alabama's given up 124 points so
- 27:20Speaker 1: far in six games. The Aggies have given up 120
- 27:26Speaker 1: points in six games. That wouldn't be bad at all
- 27:31Speaker 1: in this day and age of football. I mean, it's
- 27:34Speaker 1: not excellent, but it's not terrible. They've only scored 165
- 27:44Speaker 1: points so far in the six games that they've played.
- 27:54Speaker 1: And against some of that, when you look at the scores,
- 28:01Speaker 1: a little bit skewed because they scored 98 of those
- 28:07Speaker 1: points against Missouri State and Arizona State to open the season.
- 28:17Speaker 1: They scored 34 against a bad Arkansas team. They scored
- 28:22Speaker 1: 21 in the loss to Kentucky, 6 in the loss
- 28:26Speaker 1: to LSU, and 6 in the loss to Missouri. So
- 28:32Speaker 1: in two of the three conference losses, 6 points. The
- 28:35Speaker 1: other loss was 21 points when they gave up 31.
- 28:43Speaker 1: I know you can use statistics for a lot of things.
- 28:47Speaker 1: I used the eyeball test to tell when Offenses are
- 28:51Speaker 1: really good or really bad, and defenses are really good
- 28:56Speaker 1: or really bad. Again, I think A & M' s defense
- 29:00Speaker 1: has been decent, not great. I thought they were good Saturday.
- 29:08Speaker 1: They didn't have any help, and that has something to
- 29:14Speaker 1: do with it. But not everything. They have to be better, obviously,
- 29:20Speaker 1: on both sides. Not this week. Not against the Citadel. 45.5
- 29:27Speaker 1: points is the spread right now. And as I mentioned,
- 29:32Speaker 1: we're going to talk about, I bet you didn't know
- 29:36Speaker 1: they were the Bulldogs.
- 29:37Speaker 18: Did you?
- 29:38Speaker 1: Did you know that? You knew that, Stan? I didn't.
- 29:41Speaker 1: I had no idea. I had to look all that up.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Do you know where they're based? No, but I know
- 29:47Speaker 1: they're in the Southern Conference. Oh, that's very good. I
- 29:50Speaker 1: didn't know that either. But you don't know where they're based? No.
- 29:54Speaker 1: I do not know. Charleston, South Carolina, one of the
- 29:58Speaker 1: great cities of the South. So there you go. Do
- 30:04Speaker 1: you know how many home games they've won so far
- 30:06Speaker 1: this year? Wait a minute. I'm giving all of my
- 30:12Speaker 1: stats away. This is a 5 o'clock thing. I can't
- 30:15Speaker 1: keep people listening. I've got all of these answers coming up,
- 30:20Speaker 1: you know, at 5 o'clock. Everything you'd want to know
- 30:22Speaker 1: about the Citadel, but we're afraid to ask. Coming up,
- 30:27Speaker 1: we've got a high school report. We're going to hear
- 30:31Speaker 1: from Jordan Shaw, senior safety. P.J. Haggerty, who was the
- 30:36Speaker 1: leading scorer in Division I college basketball last year. A
- 30:41Speaker 1: Bucky transfer met with the media today. We will hear
- 30:46Speaker 1: from him. We're going to hear from Coach Elko in
- 30:49Speaker 1: the second hour as well. So you want to stay
- 30:52Speaker 1: tuned for that. Sebchak Service Center. Open right now until
- 30:56Speaker 1: 6 o'clock this evening, at least the garage area. The
- 31:00Speaker 1: Gasoline Island opens past that. It opens early in the morning.
- 31:06Speaker 1: All for your convenience. The garage is open from 7
- 31:09Speaker 1: to 6, Monday through Friday. Saturdays, 7 to 4. And
- 31:15Speaker 1: Pat is carrying on the Sevchuk family tradition of service
- 31:21Speaker 1: and satisfaction for their customers. And there's no better place
- 31:27Speaker 1: to go for emergencies. Dead batteries, flat tires, busted hoses,
- 31:35Speaker 1: all kinds of stuff. They do that every single day,
- 31:39Speaker 1: plus the oil change around back and significant mechanical work,
- 31:47Speaker 1: whether You're doing a foreign car, domestic car, a gasoline engine,
- 31:53Speaker 1: a diesel engine. This is what they do every single day.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Tell Pat you heard me talking about it. Sevchek Service Center,
- 32:03Speaker 1: 2200 Longmire, just down from the post office in College Station.
- 32:08Speaker 18: Howdy, I'm Bob Yancey, proud Aggie grad and Air Force veteran,
- 32:11Speaker 18: two-term councilman, and candidate for College Station Mayor. If you
- 32:15Speaker 18: believe City Hall should put citizens, neighborhoods, and public safety first,
- 32:19Speaker 18: I hope you'll consider a vote for me, Bob Yancey.
- 32:22Speaker 18: I'll hold the line on taxes and spending, welcome smart
- 32:24Speaker 18: growth and a healthy housing market, and find ways to
- 32:27Speaker 18: work better together supporting transparency and common sense in City Hall.
- 32:32Speaker 18: Please vote Bob Yancey.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Political ad paid for by the Bob Yancey Campaign.
- 32:36Speaker 4: Christy Yancey, Treasurer.

- 33:05Speaker 8: 1150 a.m.
- 33:05Speaker 15: And 93.7 FM.
- 33:08Speaker 6: Welcome into the High School Report.
- 33:37Speaker 21: I'm Caleb Rapley, and today we are jumping out to
- 33:40Speaker 21: the Polaris Fun Center phone line to visit with the
- 33:42Speaker 21: head coach of the Brenham Cubs football team, Coach Danny Youngs.
- 33:46Speaker 1: Thanks for joining me today.
- 33:48Speaker 3: Thanks for having me.
- 33:49Speaker 21: As we sit here, we are in week eight of
- 33:51Speaker 21: the Texas high school football season. Your Cubs sitting at
- 33:54Speaker 21: 6-0 in 2026, a very good start. So now that
- 33:58Speaker 21: we're over halfway through the season, what have been some
- 34:00Speaker 21: of your takeaways, some of the things that have been
- 34:03Speaker 21: keys to success for Brenham this year?
- 34:06Speaker 22: Well, I think the number one key to our success
- 34:08Speaker 22: is how hard our kids work. They put in a
- 34:11Speaker 22: lot of work in off-season, spring football, then strength and
- 34:15Speaker 22: conditioning camp, all in to get prepared for when August
- 34:20Speaker 22: gets here. I would think that's our best trait and
- 34:25Speaker 22: what's gotten us to where we are is our work ethic.
- 34:29Speaker 22: We split the season into three phases, non-district, district, and post-season.
- 34:36Speaker 22: To get through the non-district 5-0, beat a very good
- 34:40Speaker 22: P & G team, beat a 6A Eastview team, beat
- 34:45Speaker 22: a very good Huntsville team, I think really got us
- 34:48Speaker 22: ready for a district run and then hopefully a long
- 34:54Speaker 22: playoff run.
- 34:55Speaker 21: Looking at your district, District 8, it's a little bit
- 34:58Speaker 21: of a smaller district with only six teams, so you
- 35:01Speaker 21: have exactly half your games in non-district and half in
- 35:04Speaker 21: district play. How much of an advantage is that for
- 35:07Speaker 21: you as a coach, having five full games to get
- 35:11Speaker 21: to know your team and having those five games that
- 35:13Speaker 21: are really just warm-up games for the district games, the
- 35:16Speaker 21: ones that determine the outcome of your season? So how
- 35:19Speaker 21: much does that help in your opinion?
- 35:21Speaker 22: Well, I think there's two ways to look at it.
- 35:24Speaker 22: I personally, I don't like it. I don't like having
- 35:27Speaker 22: five games, like you said, that are basically just glorified practices.
- 35:32Speaker 3: They don't matter whether you make the playoffs or don't
- 35:35Speaker 3: make the playoffs. Now, I will say, I.
- 35:37Speaker 22: Think when you're young and, you know, you got a
- 35:40Speaker 22: lot of new starters or if you're saying your first
- 35:43Speaker 22: or second season in the program, I think it's really
- 35:46Speaker 22: beneficial to get those five games because, you know, if
- 35:49Speaker 22: you do spring football, you only get one scrimmage. I
- 35:52Speaker 22: think where you're like we are, you know, we're in
- 35:54Speaker 22: year five and we have a lot of returning guys.
- 35:57Speaker 22: And I think it's just, man, I like the 18
- 36:01Speaker 22: district where you have three non-district games and you know,
- 36:04Speaker 22: seven district games personally, but you know, you, you really
- 36:08Speaker 22: just want to be healthy when you get into district and, uh,
- 36:11Speaker 22: you don't.
- 36:12Speaker 3: Have a chance to have your best team out there.
- 36:13Speaker 22: And so I, on one side of it, I think
- 36:16Speaker 22: it is good that you get a lot of extra
- 36:17Speaker 22: reps before you get in district.
- 36:18Speaker 3: But on the same side, so does everybody else. So I,
- 36:22Speaker 3: I just, I don't know. It's like you said, I,
- 36:25Speaker 3: I rather play meaningful games, uh, sooner.
- 36:28Speaker 22: I don't like five non-district games personally, but it's been
- 36:32Speaker 22: that way for the last, uh, Two years, and then,
- 36:35Speaker 22: of course, this year and next year will be the same.
- 36:38Speaker 21: Looking at the makeup of your team, five starters returning
- 36:41Speaker 21: on offense, six on defense from last year, so pretty
- 36:44Speaker 21: experienced team. A lot of juniors and seniors in starting
- 36:48Speaker 21: roles this year, but who are some players that have
- 36:50Speaker 21: stepped up that maybe weren't contributors so much last year
- 36:54Speaker 21: but have taken on a bigger role after those seniors
- 36:57Speaker 21: that graduated from 2025?
- 37:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the.
- 37:00Speaker 22: Offensive line has done a really good job of gelling together.
- 37:03Speaker 22: We had three returning starters and had to add two
- 37:07Speaker 22: new guys on there. And, you know, Nolan Reyes and
- 37:11Speaker 22: Luke maybe both of them have fit in really well.
- 37:15Speaker 22: Luke's done a great job at center on the whole line. And,
- 37:18Speaker 22: you know, having five seniors is great until next year.
- 37:21Speaker 22: So we're going to really enjoy the fact that we
- 37:24Speaker 22: have five senior offensive linemen. And they just have a
- 37:27Speaker 22: really good bond amongst them. I think in the skill department,
- 37:31Speaker 22: I think the one thing that I've been surprised is
- 37:34Speaker 22: just how good all three running backs have been.
- 37:37Speaker 3: I knew they were really good. I knew they were good, but.
- 37:41Speaker 22: They're, I mean, it doesn't matter who's back there at tailback.
- 37:44Speaker 22: They can all three go. You got speed, power, and then,
- 37:49Speaker 22: you know, you kind of got a mix of both with.
- 37:54Speaker 3: CJ. CJ and Liedrich are both, you know, I mean,
- 37:57Speaker 3: they mix just absolutely great speed and vision.
- 38:02Speaker 22: And then you got Jacoby, who's more of the power
- 38:06Speaker 22: with great vision. And so they've all three together just
- 38:10Speaker 22: done a really good job and, you know, been.
- 38:12Speaker 3: Really proud of them.
- 38:13Speaker 22: And then I couldn't say with Colton Nicholson at the
- 38:16Speaker 22: HVAC is really, you know, helped our running game. He's
- 38:20Speaker 22: physical and played linebacker last year and, you know, asked
- 38:23Speaker 22: him if he wanted the opportunity to start and he
- 38:26Speaker 22: said yes. And so, you know, you know, uh, we
- 38:28Speaker 22: gave him, put him there at the H back and
- 38:30Speaker 22: he's just taking that role over. So been real proud
- 38:33Speaker 22: of him.
- 38:34Speaker 21: I want to talk about your quarterback, Roland branch, first
- 38:37Speaker 21: year starter for him. Uh, and he's having to follow
- 38:40Speaker 21: a very strong senior season from Zyron Upshaw last year
- 38:44Speaker 21: who graduated, but he has stepped into the starting quarterback
- 38:47Speaker 21: role very nicely. What went into the decision of him
- 38:50Speaker 21: ending up winning that job and how has he been
- 38:52Speaker 21: able to have so much success this year?
- 38:54Speaker 22: Well, I think Roland after, uh, After last year's season,
- 39:00Speaker 22: he made a decision that he really wanted to focus
- 39:02Speaker 22: in on football and.
- 39:03Speaker 3: Be a quarterback.
- 39:04Speaker 22: He has put a lot of time and work. Everything
- 39:07Speaker 22: he's gotten, he's earned. He's very smart.
- 39:10Speaker 3: He always keeps a good, even keel.
- 39:12Speaker 22: He has that great leadership mentality where he doesn't get
- 39:15Speaker 22: too high or too low.
- 39:17Speaker 3: Everybody likes passion, and passion's great. There's nothing wrong with that,
- 39:21Speaker 3: but Roland's.
- 39:23Speaker 22: Really more of a, you know, he just keeps that calm,
- 39:25Speaker 22: even keel all the time, and, you know, he loves
- 39:28Speaker 22: playing the game, and he's a great leader out there
- 39:30Speaker 22: on offense, and, you know, really has stepped in the role,
- 39:33Speaker 22: not just done a great job from the aspect of
- 39:36Speaker 22: throwing touchdowns, he's really taken care of the ball. When
- 39:39Speaker 22: something's not there, you know, he'll tuck it and run it,
- 39:42Speaker 22: or he'll throw it away. Been real proud of him
- 39:45Speaker 22: through six games now, you know, not having any turnovers,
- 39:48Speaker 22: and so, That's hard to do against the teams.
- 39:51Speaker 3: That we've played.
- 39:53Speaker 21: This week, going on the road to take on the
- 39:55Speaker 21: Rudder Rangers at Merrill Green Stadium in Bryan. What do
- 39:59Speaker 21: you expect to see from them?
- 40:01Speaker 22: Well, I think always you're going to get a good
- 40:03Speaker 22: game between Brenham and Bryan. We're as close to a
- 40:07Speaker 22: rival as anybody in our district because we play each
- 40:11Speaker 22: other in all the other sports. And then we've been
- 40:13Speaker 22: in the same district together for the five years that
- 40:16Speaker 22: I've been here. Um, so, you know, we see each
- 40:19Speaker 22: other all the time. Uh, you play each other too much.
- 40:22Speaker 22: You tend to get a little spike towards each other. So, uh,
- 40:26Speaker 22: I would say, uh, you know, rudder rudder week is really.
- 40:30Speaker 3: Our kids get up for it. I'm sure there's due to,
- 40:33Speaker 3: they're all friends. I mean, it's kind of like when,
- 40:36Speaker 3: you know, who do you get.
- 40:37Speaker 22: In fights with more when you're kids with your brother,
- 40:40Speaker 22: with your best friends.
- 40:41Speaker 3: And, uh, so our kids know each other really well.
- 40:44Speaker 22: And, You know, it's always a very competitive game, and
- 40:48Speaker 22: they're going to come out and give us their best,
- 40:50Speaker 22: and we're going to come in there and, you know,
- 40:52Speaker 22: hopefully give them our best.
- 40:53Speaker 3: And we'll see what happens.
- 40:55Speaker 21: So like I mentioned earlier, sitting at 6-0 on the
- 40:58Speaker 21: season after going 11-2 last year, it really looks like
- 41:01Speaker 21: you're continuing that momentum into this year. But with those
- 41:06Speaker 21: good performances comes with a little bit of added pressure.
- 41:09Speaker 21: You know, it's becoming an expectation to be one of
- 41:11Speaker 21: the top teams in the state at Brenham. How do
- 41:14Speaker 21: you handle that as a coach and how do you
- 41:16Speaker 21: continue to strive to get to the next level?
- 41:18Speaker 22: Well, I think we always, you know, always strive to
- 41:21Speaker 22: be the best. And Brenham, that's just the expectation. Glenn
- 41:24Speaker 22: West set that expectation for the 20 years that he
- 41:28Speaker 22: was here and Coach Allen after him.
- 41:30Speaker 3: And we're the same. You know, now, you know, the
- 41:34Speaker 3: expectation is to win.
- 41:35Speaker 22: And I don't know why you'd want to work somewhere
- 41:37Speaker 22: that that wasn't the expectation.
- 41:39Speaker 3: And so, you know, our kids, they don't feel added pressure.
- 41:43Speaker 3: We want it. We're ranked number four. We want to
- 41:46Speaker 3: be ranked number one. You know, last year I think
- 41:48Speaker 3: we started at number three.
- 41:49Speaker 22: That's something we look forward to.
- 41:53Speaker 3: We want that. We want to be the.
- 41:56Speaker 22: Best team in the state of Texas, and that's the goal. And,
- 41:59Speaker 22: you know, we work every week to get better every
- 42:01Speaker 22: single day. You know, we don't want to be arrogant
- 42:03Speaker 22: or big-headed, but we are very confident in our ability,
- 42:08Speaker 22: and we're very confident in how hard we work and
- 42:11Speaker 22: how much we love the.
- 42:12Speaker 3: Guy next to us. And, you know.
- 42:14Speaker 22: at the end of the day, rankings and records don't
- 42:17Speaker 22: mean nothing. You want to be district champs and you
- 42:20Speaker 22: want to get in the playoffs and be playing your
- 42:22Speaker 22: best football. You know, last year we were kind of
- 42:24Speaker 22: in the same situation when we went and played university. And,
- 42:27Speaker 22: you know, we got beat because, you know, we got
- 42:30Speaker 22: big headed and forgot what made us good. And it
- 42:32Speaker 22: was preparation and practice and being physical and being tough.
- 42:36Speaker 22: And we went in there with, you know, thinking it
- 42:39Speaker 22: was going to be easy and university kicked our tails.
- 42:41Speaker 22: And it was probably the best thing that happened to us.
- 42:44Speaker 22: We preach that to our guys all the time, be different.
- 42:47Speaker 22: We've got to be focused each and every week because, honestly,
- 42:50Speaker 22: we're going to get everybody's best. I mean, we're predicted
- 42:52Speaker 22: to be the district champs. We're ranked number four right now,
- 42:55Speaker 22: and everybody wants to knock you off, and we like that.
- 42:59Speaker 21: All right, Coach, well, I appreciate your time today. Good
- 43:01Speaker 21: luck to your Cubs the rest of the season.
- 43:04Speaker 3: Well, I appreciate it, and thank you for having me on.

- 45:26Speaker 28: The Houston Texans are looking to build off of their
- 45:29Speaker 28: first win of the year that came over the weekend
- 45:31Speaker 28: against Tennessee. One position that struggled with depth so far
- 45:34Speaker 28: has been the wide receivers with Jaden Higgins and Tank
- 45:37Speaker 28: Dell on injured reserve. Now the Texans have traded for
- 45:40Speaker 28: Marvin Harrison Jr. from the Cardinals, who happens to be
- 45:43Speaker 28: a former college teammate of C.J. Stroud. Here's Texans head
- 45:46Speaker 28: coach D'Amico Ryads on how Harrison Jr. fits into their
- 45:49Speaker 28: offensive scheme.
- 45:50Speaker 29: And for the most part with this is, you know,
- 45:53Speaker 29: credit goes to, you know, Nick Casario and His ability
- 45:57Speaker 29: to be able to work a deal and get it finalized,
- 46:01Speaker 29: credit goes to him. The vision and everything that we
- 46:04Speaker 29: have for him, just see how many great players can
- 46:07Speaker 29: you add. There's nothing wrong with adding great players. As
- 46:10Speaker 29: many as we can get to help us go out
- 46:14Speaker 29: and play winning football, that's what this was all about.
- 46:17Speaker 28: The Texans will have an international contest this weekend against
- 46:20Speaker 28: the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. With your Houston Texans report,

- 47:28Speaker 15: Okay, so for the ad, I'm thinking fog machines, laser lights,
- 47:32Speaker 15: maybe a.
- 47:32Speaker 2: Do kids eat free?
- 47:34Speaker 9: Uh, yes.
- 47:35Speaker 3: Like, actually free? Yes, every Wednesday night.

- 47:39Speaker 1: That's how kids eat free works, buddy.
- 47:41Speaker 3: Wednesday's my favorite day now!

- 48:08Speaker 1: you would, you can stream it, podcast it on chipower.com, zone1150. com.
- 48:17Speaker 1: The shows are up. We've got a special interview page
- 48:21Speaker 1: as well for special interviews that we do. that are
- 48:26Speaker 1: on those sites.
- 48:28Speaker 9: All right.
- 48:30Speaker 1: We're going to hear from Senior Safety Jordan Shaw. He
- 48:35Speaker 1: was the co-leader in tackles on Saturday at Columbia, Missouri.
- 48:47Speaker 1: He led the defense with eight tackles, one and a
- 48:50Speaker 1: half of them for loss.
- 48:53Speaker 4: Jordan Shaw. How did you feel like you guys were
- 48:55Speaker 4: able to kind of keep the game close in that
- 48:57Speaker 4: first half? And just maybe what broke through in the
- 49:00Speaker 4: second half for them as they started.
- 49:02Speaker 15: To pull away?
- 49:02Speaker 19: I mean, we were just trying to take it one
- 49:06Speaker 19: play at a time. Everybody was just trying to do
- 49:08Speaker 19: their assignments and just have each other back. But as
- 49:12Speaker 19: the game went on, things went the way they went. But,
- 49:15Speaker 19: you know, we can't point the finger. We just got
- 49:17Speaker 19: to get back to the drawing board and learn from it.
- 49:19Speaker 19: and go from there so.
- 49:22Speaker 10: Jordan when you've been in practice have you seen some
- 49:24Speaker 10: of these struggles from the offensive side of the ball
- 49:27Speaker 10: or is this something that seems to pop up kind
- 49:29Speaker 10: of on game day?
- 49:30Speaker 19: No I mean I feel like every practice we be
- 49:33Speaker 19: having good practices like offense be clicking defense be clicking
- 49:36Speaker 19: like I mean we can't really point no fingers we
- 49:39Speaker 19: just got to learn from it and then just.
- 49:41Speaker 3: Move on from it, so.
- 49:43Speaker 19: Tony?
- 49:43Speaker 11: Yeah, just like, what is the message, right?
- 49:45Speaker 4: You guys come out, you get a stop, you go
- 49:46Speaker 4: in there, are you guys saying anything to the offensive
- 49:48Speaker 4: side of the ball, kind of giving them encouragement, or
- 49:50Speaker 4: what are those conversations?
- 49:50Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely.
- 49:51Speaker 19: I mean, we don't tell each other we have each
- 49:53Speaker 19: other back, like, you know, keep pushing, like, that's really
- 49:55Speaker 19: just the message, like, play for your brother, no matter
- 49:58Speaker 19: what the score is, just keep fighting up to the end,
- 50:00Speaker 19: so that's really just the message.
- 50:02Speaker 3: Tyler?
- 50:03Speaker 15: Do you feel like the defense started to get gassed
- 50:05Speaker 15: at all after, you know, multiple three downs there?
- 50:09Speaker 8: Uh, I mean, not really.
- 50:11Speaker 19: I mean, like, we just got to keep fighting. Like,
- 50:14Speaker 19: no matter how many times we got to come out there,
- 50:16Speaker 19: we just got to keep fighting.
- 50:17Speaker 3: Like, that's really it.
- 50:20Speaker 4: What was maybe the breakdown on the catch-and-run touchdown they
- 50:24Speaker 4: had in the first quarter, or first half, I should say?
- 50:27Speaker 19: Yeah, that was on me. I just got to set
- 50:29Speaker 19: my feet and just, you know, just do better.
- 50:31Speaker 29: That's all. It's on me.
- 50:33Speaker 17: Mr.
- 50:34Speaker 16: Jordan?
- 50:35Speaker 4: You know, You guys still have half a season. The
- 50:37Speaker 4: road's not going to get any easier. Where's morale at,
- 50:40Speaker 4: and how do you feel like you guys can get
- 50:42Speaker 4: this thing going the way you want it to?
- 50:44Speaker 3: I mean, we all know this is going to be
- 50:46Speaker 3: a long season. We know when we.
- 50:47Speaker 19: Signed up for being the SEC, this type of stuff happens.
- 50:50Speaker 19: So it's either you learn from it or you let
- 50:54Speaker 19: it break you. But we're going to learn from it.
- 50:55Speaker 19: We're going to attack on Monday, have a good week
- 50:58Speaker 19: of practice, and just move on from it.
- 50:59Speaker 1: All right, that's Jordan Shaw. That was postgame on Saturday.
- 51:05Speaker 1: We're going to flip gears from the oblong to the
- 51:08Speaker 1: round ball. And already had a closed scrimmage this last week.
- 51:14Speaker 1: SMU coming up in Dallas a week from Sunday up
- 51:20Speaker 1: at Moody Coliseum. And the season's not that far away. Again,
- 51:25Speaker 1: the team... Representatives and Bucky will be at Media Day
- 51:30Speaker 1: tomorrow for the SEC.
- 51:33Speaker 17: P.J.
- 51:34Speaker 1: Haggerty, one of the big gets from the portal transfer
- 51:38Speaker 1: leading scorer from K-State, leading scorer in the nation last year.
- 51:44Speaker 3: P.J., you know, just.
- 51:53Speaker 4: Coming after the Bahamas, you guys getting into form, experiences
- 51:56Speaker 4: and practices, how do you really feel like you're settling
- 51:58Speaker 4: into this system and what you feel like you'll be
- 52:00Speaker 4: able to add to this team?
- 52:02Speaker 31: It's been great. I think more so I've just been
- 52:04Speaker 31: focusing on being a leader. I know what I'm capable of.
- 52:07Speaker 31: My teammates, they know what I'm capable of. So just
- 52:10Speaker 31: coming in, just being a leader and just trying to
- 52:11Speaker 31: lead the way.
- 52:12Speaker 4: What does leadership look like for you?
- 52:15Speaker 31: Just being more vocal, just getting out of my shell,
- 52:18Speaker 31: talking to my teammates, just knowing how to approach them
- 52:20Speaker 31: when it's going good, when it's going bad.
- 52:23Speaker 15: What was a big takeaway from the scrimmage you all.
- 52:27Speaker 3: Had?
- 52:28Speaker 31: Big takeaways. I think our ball pressure, like defense. I
- 52:32Speaker 31: think we sped them up a lot, got into them
- 52:35Speaker 31: the whole game, and it helped our offense a lot.
- 52:38Speaker 31: Our offense flowed more with our defense picking up second half.
- 52:43Speaker 11: How valuable is a game like that?
- 52:45Speaker 22: Obviously the real things are going to start flying soon,
- 52:47Speaker 22: so how valuable is it to get reps like that?
- 52:49Speaker 31: I think it's pretty valuable to see where we're at
- 52:51Speaker 31: before the season starts. Just to get chemistry, I would say,
- 52:54Speaker 31: like know each other's game rather than just playing each
- 52:57Speaker 31: other all day. So I think it's pretty valuable and
- 53:00Speaker 31: cool for us to see that.
- 53:02Speaker 4: What do you feel like are things that you guys
- 53:03Speaker 4: have taken from that, just like what you need to
- 53:05Speaker 4: grow on these next few weeks before they really start counting?
- 53:08Speaker 31: We've been watching film on that game for like the
- 53:10Speaker 31: past two days. So the biggest key things Coach Bucky
- 53:13Speaker 31: pointed out was like rebounding, like boxing out. ball pressure
- 53:18Speaker 31: making sure we picking up miss or make and just
- 53:21Speaker 31: being in the right spots on defense i don't think
- 53:23Speaker 31: he was like more so worried about offense just the
- 53:25Speaker 31: defensive part just those little things you know you've had
- 53:29Speaker 31: some time in bucky's system now how does it kind
- 53:32Speaker 31: of feel how does it fit.
- 53:33Speaker 1: And like how do you like how everything's going so far.
- 53:35Speaker 31: I'm tired man no it's been great uh just being
- 53:39Speaker 31: able to play play my teammates getting used to each
- 53:42Speaker 31: other i mean season came quick uh Every day in practice,
- 53:45Speaker 31: we're just trying to get better, but it's been a
- 53:46Speaker 31: lot of fun, just the whole half.
- 53:50Speaker 15: When you're at this point, the beginning of preseason, does
- 53:54Speaker 15: it feel like the season is still a ways away?
- 53:56Speaker 15: Do you sort of compartmentalize each day, or is it
- 54:02Speaker 15: sort of like it is rapidly approaching and there's a
- 54:05Speaker 15: sense of urgency because November 2nd is less than a
- 54:08Speaker 15: month away? How do you guys sort of deal with
- 54:10Speaker 15: that mindset?
- 54:11Speaker 31: We got a couple of scrimmages coming up. I think
- 54:13Speaker 31: just more so for us is just taking it day
- 54:15Speaker 31: by day. I think practice by practice, lift by lift,
- 54:18Speaker 31: film by film. So just doing those things to lead
- 54:21Speaker 31: up to those points. So when we get there, we're
- 54:23Speaker 31: as sharp as we can be.
- 54:25Speaker 14: Now that you have a few practices, a few scrimmages, whatever,
- 54:30Speaker 14: how do you feel like you fit into the system?
- 54:33Speaker 11: What do you feel like your role will be?
- 54:35Speaker 31: I think I fit pretty well just being able to
- 54:37Speaker 31: get downhill, get my teammates involved, being able to score.
- 54:40Speaker 31: I mean, They scored a lot of points here. I
- 54:42Speaker 31: knew that prior to coming here. So just being able
- 54:45Speaker 31: to do that and just working on my defense and
- 54:47Speaker 31: things like that.
- 54:48Speaker 6: What's it like getting.
- 54:49Speaker 29: To know this group of guys.
- 54:51Speaker 25: Both on and off the court?
- 54:52Speaker 31: It's been cool. I mean, I met some of them, like,
- 54:54Speaker 31: prior to this. Just being able to, like, know each other,
- 54:57Speaker 31: where we're from. I mean, we're all from, like, a
- 55:00Speaker 31: lot of us from Texas. So, you know, we kind
- 55:01Speaker 31: of get the Texas feel, but it's different with other players.
- 55:04Speaker 31: But just, like, bonding on and off the court. We've
- 55:06Speaker 31: been hanging out, going to dinners, playing a game. And
- 55:09Speaker 31: then on the court practices, we're just going at each other.
