- 0:01Speaker 1: Is there a major life transition benching you?
- 0:03Speaker 1: I know you may be asking what's next?
- 0:07Speaker 1: What's my purpose?
- 0:08Speaker 1: What if?
- 0:09Speaker 1: Because I've asked those too.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Welcome to the Start your Comeback podcast.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I'm Toni Thrash, a certified life coach, and I want to share the tools and practical steps to help you create a winning game plan to move into your new adventure.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Hi, welcome back.
- 1:02Speaker 1: You're listening to episode 65.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Last week we discussed redefining resolutions, how we needed to make a perspective change in how we view those.
- 1:14Speaker 1: The bigger and more overwhelming they are sometimes, the less they get accomplished.
- 1:21Speaker 1: We broke it down a bit and now I want to talk to you about the three D's.
- 1:25Speaker 1: The first D is called the dream.
- 1:30Speaker 1: Several years ago, nine to be exact I had a dream to be a life coach and help others reach their goals and dreams.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I was doing it anyway because I was coaching basketball and tennis, and somehow coaching sports goes hand in hand with live coaching.
- 1:45Speaker 1: In fact, I use a ton of sports analogies because it applies to both life and sports.
- 1:52Speaker 1: At the time, I had zero dollars for the certification and knew it would have to wait.
- 1:58Speaker 1: One day I received a package in my apartment complex office.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I received a money order covering the entire cost.
- 2:06Speaker 1: I had no idea who gifted this to me, but this was a huge sign for me.
- 2:12Speaker 1: This was on the heels of another big miracle that God had already done for me, but I'll save that story for another episode.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I signed up for the certification and went through the whole process of becoming certified.
- 2:26Speaker 1: It was a dream come true for me, so let's talk about that.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Sometimes we have to dream, because this is our starting place.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Without a dream, we are stuck in the day-to-day with no hope of getting out of the rut we are in.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Dreaming is an awesome thing.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Personally, most of the time I keep my dreams to myself and only share them with those closest to me, but I found that if I look at the resolutions big picture, I become overwhelmed that the accomplishment won't happen.
- 2:58Speaker 1: For some reason.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I don't even see where I need to start.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I begin to think there's absolutely zero way that, from where I am currently standing, I can get there, to the finished or accomplishment of the resolution.
- 3:13Speaker 1: This type of thinking for me anyway, ultimately leads to complete surrender to Netflix, comfort, food and safe places.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Let's be real Procrastination at its finest.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I become fasciated seeing the big picture and then fear overtakes the everyday choices that chisel the path towards the dream.
- 3:36Speaker 1: And when there's no chisel, there's no path.
- 3:40Speaker 1: And then, all of a sudden, year-long goals take a complete shift from appearing delightful to utterly daunting.
- 3:47Speaker 1: What are long-year goals anyway?
- 3:49Speaker 1: Modern Americans consider their year-long goals to be resolutions.
- 3:55Speaker 1: While the dreams of resolutions are easy, the disciplines resolutions bring are the difficult part.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Dreaming is one of the things that brings hope and an eagerness to look forward to and ahead.
- 4:09Speaker 1: You see, we all have dreams.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Sometimes it's just stuck in our head.
- 4:14Speaker 1: It's there because we're afraid to say it out loud, because of what others might say or think about us.
- 4:20Speaker 1: You see, without some sort of goals attached to the dream, it just stays that a dream without any hope.
- 4:28Speaker 1: So I guess the question I have for you is this is your dream attainable?
- 4:33Speaker 1: Is that resolution attainable?
- 4:36Speaker 1: Are you willing to share it with someone?
- 4:39Speaker 1: Are you willing to put some action steps and build a game plan to help you succeed to make that dream, that resolution, a reality?
- 4:47Speaker 1: Because once you've shared your dream with someone, then it's more than just a thought.
- 4:54Speaker 1: You now have someone who will ask you about what you're going to do about your dream or what you're going to do about that resolution.
- 5:02Speaker 1: One of the things that you might want to consider doing is hiring a coach so you can put manageable steps into making that dream, a resolution, a reality.
- 5:12Speaker 1: You can put manageable steps into making that dream, a resolution, a reality, Because building a game plan, or establishing a game plan, is essential to making your dream or resolution a reality.
- 5:22Speaker 1: It is unanimously agreeable that resolutions are all around overwhelming.
- 5:27Speaker 1: Why?
- 5:28Speaker 1: Because they're a result of a wild imagination.
- 5:31Speaker 1: However, a wild imagination doesn't necessarily equal accomplishment.
- 5:37Speaker 1: It's a rather basic beginning.
- 5:40Speaker 1: We automatically deem resolutions or our dreams as unattainable because we constantly refer to the end goal, not those small steps in between the beginning and the end.
- 5:52Speaker 1: So here's an action step for you today.
- 5:55Speaker 1: This is the one area that you need to think about and process.
- 5:59Speaker 1: Be bold, Share the dream with someone and the next week, tune in as I talk about the second D, which is the decision.
- 6:11Speaker 1: We are so close to Christmas.
- 6:12Speaker 1: I've gotten all my presents wrapped and delivered to my kid's house for the celebration which, you need to know, never happens.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I don't know what about this year, but they're all done and delivered.
- 6:24Speaker 1: It is my grandson's first Christmas and, while he's still too young to understand it's going to be such a blast to watch him and celebrate with him.
- 6:32Speaker 1: You have exactly three days left to finish up your shopping.
- 6:37Speaker 1: Enjoy your time with your family and please know that if you're in the middle of a transition, I'm asking you to take another bold step and plant yourself with good friends on Christmas Day.
- 6:47Speaker 1: I'm celebrating with friends on Christmas Eve and then see my kids Christmas Day.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Merry Christmas.
- 6:54Speaker 1: I pray you will see joy and some laughter this weekend.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I'll see you next time.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Hey, thanks for listening.
