- 0:40[SPEAKER_02]: And today we're happy to welcome author, pastor, and fellow deep-dish pizza lover, Kyle Bierga, do the podcast to talk about his new devotional storing up treasure.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_02]: 30 memory verses to learn, live, and love.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_02]: But before we do that, we like to start every Bible for kids podcast with the Bible verse, Trisha.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: And this is limitations 3, 22, or 23 because the Lord's great love we are not consumed for his compassions never fail.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: They are new every morning.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: Great is your faithfulness.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, and we took this one right from the devotional.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_02]: So, yeah.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_02]: So, Calbiorga serves as the pastor of discipleship and family ministries at City View Community Church in Elmhurst, Illinois.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_02]: His passion is seeing families engage with God's word together.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_02]: His interests include a good cup of coffee, Chicago deep dish pizza.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_02]: There you go.
- 1:31[SPEAKER_02]: Baseball and going on adventures with his wife, Jackie, and his three boys.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: Kyle, welcome.
- 1:37[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you so much for having me.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_03]: It's great to be here.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, all right.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_02]: So let's let's dive into that deep dish a little bit.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, what you're are you a judonos and wordos, loomel notties, loomel notties.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, sure's my number one.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, my my friends and I did a pizza tour last year.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_02]: Oh man, and lost a lot of weight, too, I assume.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_02]: We had to do once a month.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, man.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_02]: When I first moved to Chicago, it's like, the heavens.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_02]: It was like, man, a Chicago deep dish pizza was like, Man, from heaven.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_02]: And it's like, it's all I ever ate for a while.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_02]: And I like, I kind of overdid it.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_02]: You know, yes.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, it's like, you know, I need to take a break.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_02]: It may be thin out the crust a little bit.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_03]: There are a lot of good options, too.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, my goodness.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_02]: And now that I'm in Chicago whenever I have a chance to eat deep dish,
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: I've only had one time.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like feeling so left out here.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: Is it overwhelming?
- 2:40[SPEAKER_02]: Is it overwhelming the first time that's right here?
- 2:41[SPEAKER_01]: It's like a lasagna pizza.
- 2:43[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: Come on.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a casserole than a pizza.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_03]: Lunar 90s is way lighter than Giradano's.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_03]: Giradano's is is very heavy.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_03]: I think that's what I went.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: It was like.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_02]: And they opened up a new place here in Nashville a number of years ago, called 312 Pizza.
- 3:00[SPEAKER_02]: And the pizza was really good.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_02]: But what I noticed was when you go to a Chicago deep dish place that the dishes like look like they've been around, you
- 3:08[SPEAKER_02]: a few times they're all like, you know, it's like they got flavor baked in.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_02]: And here comes this brand new, you know, deep dish, you know, just looks like it hasn't been through the war.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_02]: And it's like, it just wasn't the same.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it was those dishes need to be banged.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: There is something about the over time.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, yeah.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_02]: Just kind of seeps into the iron or whatever it is.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_02]: Well, well, great.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_02]: Well, anyways, welcome and looking forward to talking to you about the road.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: This is pizza dog.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we've really came to talk about, because it's your new devotional, which I love so much story and have treasure.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: So as a parent, yourself, what difference have you seen in your children?
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: And even your family dynamic when it comes to consistently memorizing and applying scripture, which is what your your book is on.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, one of the biggest things that I've seen with my wife and I is, um, obviously, if we, if we want to come and language in our home, what better word than God's word, and we really felt like memorizing scripture was going to give us that foundation that we needed.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_03]: So we could refer back to things that we've talked about before.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe some we're currently memorizing or something that we had memorized.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_03]: And instead of having to go to the Bible and open it up or just tell my kids, hey, trust me,
- 4:17[SPEAKER_03]: It's in here.
- 4:18[SPEAKER_03]: It's better to be like, hey, remember that verse we memorized and they can just kind of remember that and even if it's not word for word at that point they understand what I'm getting to and so that's a big kind of change for our families, just that common language.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_03]: that we can kind of refer back to and bring up when it's needed and in the moments, the tough moments and in the good moments we've had a scripture there that we've memorized together and to be able to point back and to thank God for things or to cry out for help to have his word and be able to say that back to him, knowing that he's the one that gave it to us, has really changed conversations, it's changed our prayer life as a family as well.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_02]: And you never know where you're going to need it.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_02]: You know, as you memorize it, and then it's like, wow, the word is right there on your lips, and you're able to, like you said, pray it back to God, and yes, it's very helpful.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_02]: There's a lot of, you know, devotions that are done.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_02]: Did you see a gap that existed that you're, you're looking to fill in particular with this devotional book?
- 5:18[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the main one is really wanting it to be focused on memory memory.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_03]: And it was, it's not a topic that a lot of us talk about after a one is kind of like, yeah, that's what we're talking about.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and it memorized my brother did the scripture, what were they called at the, the one we memorize a whole Bible quizzing.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's a Bible cuisine.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_03]: And so it was always like, I do I memorize it on the way to Alwana as I'm getting out of the car.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_03]: Go say it as fast as I can, forget about the time I get back.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_03]: But at least we remember rising, we were having that discipline.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_03]: And I was important at that time.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_03]: But then we have a lot of our discipleship groups here.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_03]: And we memorize scripture and a lot of the men and women in those groups said, I haven't done this since I was a kid.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_03]: And we know that kids absorb so much and can retain so much.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_03]: And so I just, as I was looking at these devotionals that my family was doing, there was, I think almost always the memory verse, but we were in and out in a day.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_03]: And that devotional.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_03]: And I say, well, it's really hard to memorize for anybody.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_03]: just kind of going in and out.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_03]: And so I said, is there a way that we can kind of sit in a verse for a while and then come at that verse from different angles, have some fun things to do, look at other places in scripture where either the theme was picked up or just somewhere else to go, just learn a little bit more about it.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_03]: But to keep coming back to it over a week, I felt was, you know, as a family, we could have things memorized and then they're more likely to have it
- 6:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, that's great and so good.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_01]: I mentioned in one.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: I was able to go with the one at two Africa June the Kyberas slums and there's 300 kids You know they have one chalkboard with a versus and they were just repeating these these versus I mean It was just I and I asked the lady who worked there and like how are they able to like memorize So many like this is all they have they have got to work.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: We have one chalkboard, but then I thought about that's all they need When they have that
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_01]: And it's so good.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: But I think, you know, we don't think about like we're winning prizes, maybe you do something at a Sunday school.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I love that concept that you came up with with the multiple short devotions going over 30 versus talk a little bit more and we just talked about how the design is and how you came up with that design.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the design is obviously a lot of stuff that we do is just what works best for my family and as I was sitting down I think I think this would work for a lot of families so I think a big part of why the devotional is is the way it is is one for the kids who just have different learning styles you know some kids can't sit down and just I'm boys would ask me how do I memorize like you just say it over and over again and yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
- 8:00[SPEAKER_03]: But somewhere along the line, like, no, I think we could do a little bit more with that than just doing that.
- 8:05[SPEAKER_03]: And so that's kind of where a lot of the games came in and activities say, right.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to say it.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_03]: We can say it in different ways.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_03]: We can do different things.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_03]: And so that's a big part of it was I wanted to make sure my boys who are not.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_03]: Not all three of them are learning the same way and can sit still and and numrise and so sometimes they need to be active and it was just can I engage them where they are at their level, both their learning style but also their spiritual maturity and
- 8:31[SPEAKER_03]: just what excites them.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_03]: And so for a couple of my boys being able to build with legos and do stuff is going to be better than sitting down and writing it out a bunch of times.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_03]: And so I was really just trying to be creative with that to help my own kids memorize.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_03]: And then to look at the weekend and what I love about this is we don't have it's put up by Monday Tuesday Wednesday it's just five blocks and so for some families maybe you can sit down and do a couple blocks in one night and maybe you got to do it over two weeks, but it's just wherever you were you just pick up and it's.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_03]: It's never wasted time when you're doing the memory verse over and over again and you're more likely the longer you spend with it to be able to store it up so that's that's kind of the reason for why the design is like that.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, and you hear like 30 and automatically think, okay, I got a month to go through this.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_02]: So it's one a day, but what you're saying is not like that.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_02]: So if you're a really busy family, you know, you're likely not gonna do one a day, right?
- 9:32[SPEAKER_02]: You can break it up into what you're saying a whole week is that right?
- 9:35[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, yeah.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, and that's why it's in the chunks.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_03]: So when we had families review it that was one of the things they they like the most was they had intention to do more One night, and then like and then we reach our breaking point.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_03]: We said the memory verse 10 times and our kids were like, we're done We're going to pick up tomorrow.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_03]: We're going to start with the memory verse and then we're going to dive into the devotional with it and that was the biggest thing I just didn't want families to feel like
- 10:01[SPEAKER_03]: They had to do it every day in the same exact way.
- 10:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, oh, that's great.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_02]: Well, it is time for our first breaks.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to take a short break and we'll be right back on the Bible for kids.

- 12:23[SPEAKER_02]: Alright, welcome back to the Bible for Kids podcast and Titianai are talking with author and pastor Kyle Bierga.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: I love this.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_01]: So I love that there's so many creative ways and but still things are some families like I don't know.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: We don't do a good job.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: May rise in scripture.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_01]: I'm old.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_01]: I can't memorize scripture so what advice do you have for families who may be struggle with it?
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: Think it's too hard for them but they do want to make memorizing scripture at last in memory for their families.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, the first thing is I try to encourage adults to just realize like, they can do this and it's evidenced by just the people in our, our church and our deception groups who did not believe day one that they could actually memorize scripture and just getting to the discipline of it and realizing that they could and the excitement that they had.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_03]: that they had something memorized is pretty contagious.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think as parents as we head into this devotional, we have to be excited about it.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_03]: We have to want to learn and learn with our kids.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_03]: This is meant to be for the whole family.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_03]: And there's nothing that's, you know, the three verses I think is the max that we have in any one week.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_03]: And so yeah, it's supposed to be something you can do with kids of all ages and even adults learning that.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_03]: And my one big encouragement is if it takes you three weeks to memorize the verse, that's okay.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_03]: Because what you're doing in those moments is meditating on it.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm sure the Lord is bringing it to mind throughout the week as something comes up.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_03]: And you're like, oh, I know that verse maybe I can't say it all right now, but I know what that is and what God has teaching me in that moment.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_03]: Again, if there is no waste of time in your meditating, then it is doing something in your heart and in your life, and so just encouraging that, that it's not meant to be something that you have to be done in a week, whatever works for your family.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and then there's that bridge to, from memorization to internalizing it.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_02]: And what, what role do you see games and activities and discussions play in helping kids sort of internalize those verses that they're memorizing?
- 14:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, my background before I got into ministry was teaching and just really listen, I had to reach different kids and then doing youth ministry for so many years.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_03]: There was an image on the screen that would stick with a kid and they could tell you what they've learned by looking at that image again.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_03]: and somebody else could just hear and they can go tell you, but they probably couldn't do the same thing.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_03]: And so just really trying to figure out how can I best reach all kids.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_03]: And so that was a big part of the get creative section of the devotional was saying, we want them to we want to know their learning, but internalize it a little bit different than just let me say the verse back to you.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_03]: And so being able to kind of get creative and and
- 15:24[SPEAKER_03]: write a song or make a poster and kind of say what do we learn from this verse?
- 15:30[SPEAKER_03]: I think parents are going to get a chance to really see how much did this child learn in this verse by kind of what they produce in this kind of creative section.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_03]: So just again, trying to reach all those kids that maybe won't just sit there but have to be doodling or maybe they're humming along to
- 15:52[SPEAKER_03]: God is wired us all differently.
- 15:54[SPEAKER_03]: And if that's the best way to help them memorize, and I kind of want to lean into that as much as possible.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_02]: That's great.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_02]: I guess the, in education, they sometimes call that multi-modal learning as well.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_02]: It's like finding different ways to approach it.
- 16:06[SPEAKER_02]: And it's great because it, you know, you're right.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_02]: I think different kids have different strengths, but they can also be bolstered by these other methods as well.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_02]: So if you're coming at it from multiple different directions, it's a wonderful technique.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, most of us don't have kids that just sit there.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: And when I was never surprised.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: So I love, yeah, I love the way of activity.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: So I know there's some different ways that can memorize some different alternative activities.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_01]: There's animal voices, jump, jump.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: So explain those.
- 16:37[SPEAKER_01]: And then what are some of your family's favorite?
- 16:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we just tried to do.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_03]: Again, you could kind of be silly with it as a family because maybe that's the thing that's going to get the kid to remember, you know, that's, that's something that's different than probably what we normally do when we come around's godsward and we want to be respectful.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_03]: But if that's the thing that kind of gets you whether it's, you know, even as your reading scripture, changing your voice up to be with a different character, and so I think that's a really important thing and I think it will hit kids differently when they hear certain things like that.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_03]: So whether it's that or making it a song, just wanting to, anything you put to music
- 17:13[SPEAKER_03]: easier, of course.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_03]: And so we can kind of get them just, you know, sing a melody that they know, but use the verse with it.
- 17:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's gonna stick better in the course.
- 17:21[SPEAKER_03]: There's many ministries that do great job with memory, verses, and songs.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_03]: But like for my family, it's anything my boys can be doing with their hands.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_03]: So if or competitive.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_03]: So.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_03]: Competitive versus is it's kind of fun um you talk about Bible quizzing and you know there's there's a little bit of a competition there yeah and I think sometimes that is a good motivation for kids is like oh yeah we're just having fun we're going to try and put this verse together as fast as we can um we're going to do a scavenger hunt we're going to find the pieces we're going to bring it back and so again there's just a different type of learning that happens when you're engaged in that way and um so those are come on my kids favorites if there's a ball involved if you're passing a ball and uh and what is chunk chunk
- 18:05[SPEAKER_02]: Chunk chunk, other than something happens when you've had too much deep speech pizza.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, it's kind of saying different chunks of scripture together.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_03]: And it's just physical activity.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_03]: It's just trying to get them to be moving.
- 18:20[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's the other thing is sometimes kids learn better when they're moving.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, sure.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_03]: if you can get them doing that and connecting the versus.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_03]: So, yeah, there's all sorts of different ideas in there.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of it.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_03]: Some of gotten from other people that just said, hey, this is what we do, and then some of that that we do.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_03]: When we do try and kind of give you some, once you can do, but then those extras at the back are, maybe your family's just, maybe they do just like to sit there and just say it over and over again.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_03]: And if that's what your family is used to and you enjoy that.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_03]: That's fine, but if you want to break it up and be more creative, there's plenty of options for them.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_01]: How would a cucumber say it, Mike?
- 18:56[SPEAKER_01]: See what?
- 18:58[SPEAKER_01]: The first budget dive right earlier.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_02]: Oh sure, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, there you go, yeah.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, oh yeah.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_02]: They are new every morning.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_02]: Great news, your faithfulness.
- 19:08[SPEAKER_02]: Although I'd probably start singing in the home.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_03]: There you go.
- 19:15[SPEAKER_03]: Voices and stuff like that too.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_03]: You can just when we read our kids, you know, trying to change it up to keep them engaged.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_02]: that's awesome.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_02]: Well, and focusing on real-life moments, I noticed when I am angry or when I use technology, can you talk a little bit about how that helps kids apply the scripture to their lives?
- 19:37[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, most of the verses that I memorized growing up and that I was encouraged to memorize outside of Alwana was fighter verses, you know, things to use when I was tempted.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_03]: to send which of course using the sort of spirit holding up the shield of faith is exactly what we want to do in those moments but with my voice like I don't want to just use the Bible to just combat bad things.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_03]: There's a lot of really good stuff that we should be memorizing as ways to pray and to praise the Lord and so I said these are some of these are really just mundane things that we do every day but we can have a different attitude going into them.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_03]: And the best attitude we have is kind of what is God's words say about this.
- 20:13[SPEAKER_03]: And so yeah, when it's a bad day or you are angry or
- 20:18[SPEAKER_03]: using technology, the technology verse, you know, looking at Nehemi and just kind of, in proverbs and saying, hey, you know, when a city's walls are broken down, a lot of things can kind of get in and we need self-control and, yeah, so just wanting to encourage kids to kind of say, like, oh, the Bible actually speaks to these issues, even if it doesn't say technology in the verse.
- 20:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, this can help you teach to to learn self-control and why is that important?
- 20:43[SPEAKER_03]: Well, when one
- 20:45[SPEAKER_03]: that doesn't happen.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_03]: The walls come down, you're allowing a lot of different things in.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_03]: And so let's kind of use that.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_03]: And so it's nice to be able to kind of look and say like, alright, this is a good day.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_03]: How can I praise the Lord?
- 20:57[SPEAKER_03]: I have some verses that I can use in these moments.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_03]: So whether it's emotions that they're going through daily things or kind of big life events, just want them to know that God's Word is for for all of life.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and see that it applies to those things.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: So when I became a, first became a Christian I was 17.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I was been watching all the things in the 80s that you should not be watching on HBO before that.
- 21:22[SPEAKER_01]: And I actually wrote down, I will set before my eyes know by all things.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's some 1013 and put that to my TV.
- 21:30[SPEAKER_01]: And that was like, I'm a Christian now.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_01]: And scripture applies to so many things in our lives.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's not just like, just to like mark it off, right?
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: Just write it off to where memorizing scripture.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: But these are things that we can apply to your life.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_01]: So what encouragement do you offer parents to find?
- 21:47[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we'll talk about a little bit, the Bible, memory, intimidating.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_01]: And I think go back even further to, in things, the samples that we are for our kids.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_01]: You know, because if we're the ones, if the parents are the ones saying this is going to be too hard or they're going to be struggling, that's not a very good example to talk a little bit even about kind of like setting being the role in this.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think it's, you know, I would encourage parents in this that it's okay to start very small and simple and do what your family can do.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_03]: If you've never done a family devotional before, you don't want to go all in because it's going to be intimidating for everybody.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_03]: And so I think part of that is also learning just what are your kids, you know, how do they work best, what how do they learn best and just kind of say, hey, tonight we're just going to read the verse.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_03]: And then we're done.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_03]: We haven't done family devotions in a couple months or we've never done it.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just going to read the verse and hey, we're going to come back to this tomorrow and we're just going to try and read it again.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_03]: And then maybe you can tip toe into kind of doing more of the devotional, more of the reading and just I think the biggest thing for our kids is just see this is important enough for us to make time to do consistently.
- 23:02[SPEAKER_03]: And when they see that, eventually maybe the time won't be something they're thinking about, it's just, oh, this is what we do as a family.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_03]: I'm so, yeah, breaking that down, I think is important.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_02]: Well, and our last question is probably similar, maybe elaborating on that point.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_02]: And we love to ask all of our authors this question, but if a family could take away one truth from
- 23:32[SPEAKER_03]: God's word speaks to everything of family is going to experience and that it is powerful in those moments.
- 23:39[SPEAKER_03]: And so I want them to believe that what they're memorizing is something God wants for them and that they will see the fruit of that in their family's life.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_03]: Hmm, hey man.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: All right, Kyle, thank you so much for being here.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_01]: It's been an honor to have you here and can you remind listeners where they can find storing up treasures and then connect with all your work?
- 24:02[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, they can go to the Good Book Company, of course, and get it there.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_03]: That's the publisher on Amazon.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_03]: 10 of those has it as well.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, I've just enjoyed being able to put this on paper and then hope families will really benefit from it.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_03]: And I appreciate the opportunity to come on and talk about it a little bit.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_02]: Awesome.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_02]: Well Kyle, thank you for being with us.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_02]: Please eat a piece of deep dish in my honor.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, nice and goat gocubs.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_03]: Are you cups or socks?
- 24:32[SPEAKER_03]: Cook cups.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_03]: Okay, all right.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, there you go.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I got rig leave field in the back there on this.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, there you go.
- 24:37[SPEAKER_02]: Awesome.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_02]: Awesome.
