0:27
SPEAKER_06: Good to see you again, Jeff.
0:28
SPEAKER_06: How you been?
0:29
SPEAKER_06: I've been great.
0:30
SPEAKER_06: How's it going, Steve?
0:31
SPEAKER_06: Been a crazy week, but aren't they all crazy weeks?
0:34
SPEAKER_06: I mean, if it wasn't a crazy week, what would it be?
0:36
SPEAKER_06: It'd be I I it wouldn't be a week.
0:38
SPEAKER_06: It'd be nothing, right?
0:39
SPEAKER_06: Anything special that happened to you this week?
0:41
SPEAKER_06: I gotta tell you, Jeff, I really enjoyed coming to your 50th high school reunion.
0:45
SPEAKER_06: You know, it was so nice to see all those friends and hear all those stories about you.
0:48
SPEAKER_06: I mean, I know of course I knew you back then, so I knew some of the stories, but I kind of forgot, you know, you know what I mean.
0:55
SPEAKER_06: So I knew them, but not really.
0:57
SPEAKER_06: So it was good to hear them again.
0:59
SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, no, I I knew that, but I didn't know I knew that.
1:02
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know how that works.
1:03
SPEAKER_05: I I do, and it was it was good, you know, it's always weird going to these reunions.
1:07
SPEAKER_05: You know, I wasn't super popular in school, and you always had like the jocks.
1:12
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I know it's hard to believe.
1:13
SPEAKER_05: It is hard to believe, but you have those jocks and the cheerleaders or the smart ones, you know, and they were all real popular.
1:21
SPEAKER_05: And I I really wasn't that way.
1:23
SPEAKER_05: And when the reunion came, I kind of remembered what was that movie where uh there was a reunion, I forget the name of it, two women who went to the reunion.
1:33
SPEAKER_05: But basically, when they went to the reunion, the jocks were out of shape, the cheerleaders were fat, the smart people, they weren't even there, and it was like all of a sudden they became popular.
1:44
SPEAKER_05: And I was thinking that would happen to me.
1:46
SPEAKER_05: I was thinking, I've got a podcast that's popular, and I thought that I I could like be elevated to a higher level.
1:53
SPEAKER_05: You don't really turn out that way, though.
1:55
SPEAKER_06: Well, you know, you know, funny thing though, Jeff, I went to one of my reunions a few years ago, and it's almost like those two girls were in my class because that's exactly what that's exactly what happened.
2:04
SPEAKER_06: It's exactly what it looked like.
2:05
SPEAKER_05: One of the things that that was interesting was a lot of people had really changed.
2:08
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, oh yeah.
2:10
SPEAKER_05: Do you remember that guy?
2:11
SPEAKER_05: There was a guy walking around.
2:12
SPEAKER_05: I don't know if you remembered him.
2:14
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, in fact, I was gonna ask you about that guy because most of your friends seem like typical people our age, but there's that one guy walking dressed like a pirate.
2:22
SPEAKER_06: What's up with that?
2:23
SPEAKER_06: He's still out there.
2:24
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I actually went up to him because I first I didn't recognize him, but it turns out that uh I think his name was Tim Johnson.
2:31
SPEAKER_05: At least I remembered him as Tim Johnson.
2:33
SPEAKER_05: And I, you know, we were kind of good friends, and I I, you know, he had uh a peg leg, a hook, and an eye patch.
2:40
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and I saw I just very authentic, very authentic.
2:43
SPEAKER_05: And I went up to him, I was like, Tim, like what happened to you?
2:47
SPEAKER_05: You're dressed like a pirate.
2:48
SPEAKER_05: For example, what happened to your peg leg?
2:51
SPEAKER_05: And Tim like speaks in pirate language, you know, our he has one of those pirate translators, yeah.
2:58
SPEAKER_05: It was really made me really uncomfortable.
3:00
SPEAKER_05: And he said he was coming up onto another ship, so I guess he was on a on a boat.
3:04
SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
3:05
SPEAKER_06: Wow, he's going he's going for reality on this totally, you know.
3:08
SPEAKER_06: I don't think he's talking about a pontoon in Lake Geneva or I mean, is he is he like a method pirate where he's gotta do it, like stay in it?
3:17
SPEAKER_05: I mean, I think meth had something to do with it.
3:19
SPEAKER_05: Yes, oh meth, yes.
3:21
SPEAKER_05: I think it was a meth pirate.
3:22
SPEAKER_05: No, he was a meth pirate, yeah.
3:24
SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah.
3:24
SPEAKER_06: So anyway, so anyway, that explains a lot, actually.
3:27
SPEAKER_05: Anyway, so he says, Oh, well, I was uh another ship was coming up alongside of me, and as I was getting ready to board, and my leg got caught between the two ships, and uh it pinched my leg off.
3:39
SPEAKER_06: Wow.
3:40
SPEAKER_05: Like, oh shit, wow, you know, I kind of felt bad that he even asked him about it, and you know, I was kind of afraid to go to the next question, which was so what happened to your hand?
3:49
SPEAKER_05: I mean, you got a hook on your hand, and he's like, or, or uh, you know, I was hoisting the main sail and the wind came from around and pinched my hand against the rope and it ripped my hand right off.
4:03
SPEAKER_06: Oh my gosh, it's really highlighting how dangerous it is to pretend to be something else.
4:08
SPEAKER_06: You know, you really it's just it it look at the hazards, look at what can happen.
4:13
SPEAKER_06: Legs, hands.
4:14
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, this is this is bad.
4:16
SPEAKER_06: This is bad.
4:16
SPEAKER_05: Really bad.
4:17
SPEAKER_05: So then I said to him, I said, okay, so what happened with your eye?
4:21
SPEAKER_05: Well, that was my first day with a hook.
4:23
SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah.
4:24
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but it did it did teach me a lesson and one that I followed most of my life, and that is to never give up on people, you don't see them for a long time.
4:34
SPEAKER_05: I mean, I was glad that I saw Tim.
4:36
SPEAKER_05: And yeah, he was a crazy fuck, but I I was glad that I had a chance to see him.
4:40
SPEAKER_05: And well, I know you know this about me, Steve, that I have a tendency to never let go of friendships.
4:47
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and it's a friendship.
4:48
SPEAKER_05: That's true, that's very true.
4:50
SPEAKER_05: And and so I can go back to people that I met when I was in grade school or junior high or high school, and I like to follow up with them and see what they're doing and kind of reconnect.
5:01
SPEAKER_05: And you have stuff to talk about because you can either reminisce about the past or talk about what you've done, you know, in the interim.
5:08
SPEAKER_05: Have you ever done that, Steve?
5:09
SPEAKER_06: Well, you know, Jeff, I am really remiss.
5:11
SPEAKER_06: I tend to segment my life.
5:13
SPEAKER_06: And if I'm out of school, I tend not to talk to people that I went to school with.
5:18
SPEAKER_06: You know, and I went to the reunion, it was almost like meeting new people because I really kind of forgotten I ever knew these people, so it was kind of nice.
5:24
SPEAKER_06: But no, I really haven't done that.
5:26
SPEAKER_06: But that sounds like a great way to reach out and kind of relive some of the good times.
5:31
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it always turns out well.
5:33
SPEAKER_05: You give up a good aura about you, and these are good people, so I you know, I bathe and stuff.
5:38
SPEAKER_05: I mean, yeah.
5:40
SPEAKER_05: So I'll give you an example.
5:41
SPEAKER_05: I was online and I saw a picture of us from our youth group.
5:45
SPEAKER_05: Sure, right.
5:46
SPEAKER_05: And I was looking at all the people there and I saw this guy, Richard Morris, and he was a friend of ours.
5:51
SPEAKER_05: Do you remember Richard?
5:52
SPEAKER_05: He was uh kind of had frizzy black hair, and uh his father was a doctor.
5:56
SPEAKER_06: Um you're gonna have to be more specific, yeah.
5:59
SPEAKER_06: That that covered like a lot of the people there.
6:01
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, well, uh, and uh anyways, I looked up Richard, I found a phone number because you can find anybody's personal information if you look online, and I called him.
6:10
SPEAKER_05: We had the most wonderful conversation of catching up.
6:14
SPEAKER_05: He has uh since retired and married, and he's he's a grandfather, and he just got done climbing a mountain in in the state of Washington.
6:21
SPEAKER_05: It was just a really rewarding conversation, and we haven't spoken since it's been a few years, but I know that I can always follow up with him at some point.
6:31
SPEAKER_05: I could even make the argument that you and I are doing this podcast because I followed up with you over a few years ago just to try to see what you were doing.
6:39
SPEAKER_05: And I think, Steve, in the absence of having a lot of friends, which I don't, that maybe we should try to contact some of your people that have meant something to you in the past.
6:51
SPEAKER_05: I think you would really like it.
6:52
SPEAKER_06: Jeff, that is such a great idea.
6:54
SPEAKER_06: I again, I have been remiss in doing that.
6:57
SPEAKER_06: And who knows what good things could be out there, what wonderful stories I could hear.
7:02
SPEAKER_06: It's just always great to hear.
7:04
SPEAKER_06: You I always liked you.
7:05
SPEAKER_06: I always you know we were always such good friends.
7:08
SPEAKER_06: It's so good to hear.
7:10
SPEAKER_05: The best part, Steve, is that no matter how successful they are, we have a podcast.
7:14
SPEAKER_06: We do.
7:14
SPEAKER_06: So we do not have the funniest.
7:16
SPEAKER_05: We do not have a podcast, no, and they haven't won potty awards, have they?
7:20
SPEAKER_05: No, no, no.
7:21
SPEAKER_06: I mean, unless Joe Rogan was in your grade school, you know, I think we're probably in pretty good shape.
7:26
SPEAKER_06: He could have been.
7:27
SPEAKER_06: See, I I tend to forget, but yeah, I mean hey, maybe.
7:29
SPEAKER_06: I don't know if I have numbers for a lot of these people, but I you know, like you say, Jeff, you can find anybody tell me who you're looking for, and maybe I can get a number.
7:37
SPEAKER_06: Okay, yeah, yeah.
7:37
SPEAKER_06: You know, in college I had this girlfriend, and you know, we dated most of college and lived together for a while.
7:44
SPEAKER_06: Kind of lost touch with her, never really talked to her again.
7:46
SPEAKER_06: And Debbie Ginger was her name.
7:48
SPEAKER_06: I said, you know, that's really your name.
7:51
SPEAKER_06: It really is.
7:52
SPEAKER_06: That's that's for real.
7:53
SPEAKER_05: We can probably guess what she does for a living.
7:55
SPEAKER_06: Trust me, there were plenty of jokes back then about some of the films she might have been in, but I wonder if I could get in touch with her and just kind of see what's happened.
8:03
SPEAKER_05: I see a Miss Ginger in parentheses.
8:07
SPEAKER_05: It says Debbie.
8:09
SPEAKER_05: Is that that was would that be her?
8:11
SPEAKER_05: Debbie is she here uh Pompano Beach, Florida?
8:14
SPEAKER_05: Do you have any idea if that's my where she is?
8:16
SPEAKER_05: Why don't we give her a shout?
8:17
SPEAKER_06: She could be anywhere.
8:18
SPEAKER_06: I don't know, you know.
8:19
SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah, let's give her a shout.
8:28
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, hello.
8:29
SPEAKER_01: Hi, is this Debbie?
8:31
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, who's who's speaking?
8:34
SPEAKER_01: Are you Debbie Ginger?
8:36
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's that's my name.
8:38
SPEAKER_01: Okay, who is this?
8:40
SPEAKER_01: This is somebody you knew a long time ago.
8:42
SPEAKER_01: This is Steve.
8:43
SPEAKER_06: You remember me?
8:44
SPEAKER_06: We went to college together, we dated.
8:46
SPEAKER_04: Oh uh Steve, I I told you not to call this number anymore.
8:51
SPEAKER_04: Oh, I know, I know.
8:52
SPEAKER_04: It gotten a lot better.
8:53
SPEAKER_04: I really had.
8:54
SPEAKER_00: That's that's not the point.
8:56
SPEAKER_00: Wait, you know, we can't talk, Steve.
8:59
SPEAKER_04: You remember I got the test, right?
9:01
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and you remember the results, right?
9:04
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yo, yeah, yeah, yeah.
9:07
SPEAKER_05: So you you guys were in a class together and you shared like test results.
9:11
SPEAKER_05: Is that what happened?
9:12
SPEAKER_06: We took a test.
9:14
SPEAKER_05: Wait, who's this?
9:15
SPEAKER_05: I'm Jeff.
9:16
SPEAKER_05: I'm the oh the Jeff of the Steve and Jeff World Famous Podcast.
9:20
SPEAKER_06: Maybe maybe I should tell you, Debbie.
9:22
SPEAKER_06: We're we're we're on a podcast right now.
9:23
SPEAKER_06: So no Steve.
9:28
SPEAKER_06: I know I probably should have mentioned that up front.
9:30
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's kind of a big deal, Steve.
9:31
SPEAKER_06: We're on a podcast, but yeah, no, Debbie, it's just so great to talk to you.
9:35
SPEAKER_06: You know, it's been gosh, it's been all these years.
9:38
SPEAKER_00: Steve, you know I got the test results, and we you know what the issue is with that, okay?
9:44
SPEAKER_00: I did the 23andme, and we're you're my half-brother.
9:50
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we can still reminisce though, right?
9:53
SPEAKER_04: Okay, no, we cannot talk about the reminiscing of the time that we were together when we I I have to see okay.
10:03
SPEAKER_00: No, I it's not who you think it is.
10:05
SPEAKER_00: Okay, sorry, sorry, I'm I'm I'm a little busy.
10:08
SPEAKER_00: Uh I have Steve Jr.
10:10
SPEAKER_03: I Steve?
10:12
SPEAKER_03: Steve Jr.
10:13
SPEAKER_03: No, okay.
10:14
SPEAKER_03: It's not it's not who you think oh baby, I know.
10:18
SPEAKER_03: He hit a home run.
10:19
SPEAKER_03: No, this is exactly what I'm talking about.
10:21
SPEAKER_03: No, it's it's more like uh if if I'm using the sports analogy, it's more like a baseline ball.
10:25
SPEAKER_03: He has three arms, Steve.
10:28
SPEAKER_00: Oh we're not supposed to have a kid together, and we have a kid together, and now he has three arms, and he has to go to school every day, and they make fun of him.
10:37
SPEAKER_06: You know, does he play baseball?
10:38
SPEAKER_06: He'd be fantastic.
10:40
SPEAKER_00: No, mommy's on the phone with somebody.
10:43
SPEAKER_00: You just keep eating your chicken nuggets.
10:46
SPEAKER_06: If he's got some speed, he could be a great shortstop.
10:49
SPEAKER_03: He looks like you, except he's got a third arm and it's coming out of the leg.
10:54
SPEAKER_03: We call it an arm just because it has more of an elbow than knee, uh, and more fingers than toes.
11:00
SPEAKER_03: Otherwise, we'd say it's three legs and but still, I I look, I need you, I just need you to lose my number, okay?
11:09
SPEAKER_03: I I uh it was great when it happened, and then it was just years and years of regret and shame and sadness that I need you to realize you did this to me, you did every part of this to me, and you should feel bad about it.
11:27
SPEAKER_05: And in fairness, here, Debbie, I'm the one that looked up your number.
11:30
SPEAKER_05: So do you want me to get rid of it?
11:32
SPEAKER_05: I can delete 614.
11:34
SPEAKER_03: Okay, you need it.
11:35
SPEAKER_03: Okay, okay.
11:36
SPEAKER_03: I I'm leaving, I'm leaving now.
11:38
SPEAKER_03: I'm going goodbye, Steve.
11:41
SPEAKER_03: Oh, forever.
11:43
SPEAKER_05: Wow, how great was that?
11:45
SPEAKER_05: That was that was so cool.
11:47
SPEAKER_05: That was so much better than any other call I've ever made in my life.
11:51
SPEAKER_06: I I got like a half-sister and a son.
11:54
SPEAKER_06: If you have a son with your half-sister, is the son only three-fourths your son?
12:00
SPEAKER_06: Now I was never good with fractions math, but yeah, that is so deep.
12:04
SPEAKER_06: I'm wondering, you know, there's something there.
12:06
SPEAKER_06: You know, Jeff, that that kind of didn't go like I thought it would, but you know, I know who we can call.
12:10
SPEAKER_06: I I got just the kind of call next.
12:12
SPEAKER_06: We're on a roll.
12:13
SPEAKER_06: This guy was my best friend in high school.
12:16
SPEAKER_06: We were together all the time.
12:17
SPEAKER_06: I think Johnny, do you think Johnny Flynn?
12:19
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I told you about Johnny.
12:20
SPEAKER_06: Johnny Flynn, yeah.
12:21
SPEAKER_06: Johnny Flynn.
12:22
SPEAKER_06: Not the Johnny that announces our show.
12:24
SPEAKER_06: No, there's he drinks about as much as that guy, but he's not the same guy, but yeah, Johnny Flynn.
12:30
SPEAKER_05: It's a common name.
12:31
SPEAKER_05: Uh, do you know where he might be living?
12:33
SPEAKER_05: Do you think he could still be in Peoria?
12:35
SPEAKER_06: I think he's in Peoria still.
12:36
SPEAKER_05: I mean, look.
12:37
SPEAKER_05: Here he is.
12:38
SPEAKER_05: Oh, Johnny Flynn.
12:40
SPEAKER_06: Johnny Flynn.
12:41
SPEAKER_05: Uh, should we give him a try?
12:43
SPEAKER_06: Johnny Flynn.
12:51
SPEAKER_06: Hitter, you got Flynn.
12:53
SPEAKER_06: Johnny.
12:54
SPEAKER_06: Johnny, it's Steve.
12:55
SPEAKER_06: Remember your high school friend?
12:57
SPEAKER_06: We're your best friends in high school.
13:00
SPEAKER_03: Steve.
13:02
SPEAKER_03: Uh it's not, it's not really ringing a bell there.
13:06
SPEAKER_06: Uh, you got uh, what do you look like there?
13:08
SPEAKER_06: We were in history class together and we used to pass notes and we shared answers on the tests.
13:13
SPEAKER_06: And gosh, we used to commit vandalism together too.
13:15
SPEAKER_06: We broke a bunch of windows in the school during the summer and we almost got caught because we ran and there were cops on the playground like right after that.
13:23
SPEAKER_03: It was so absolutely Steve Matthews.
13:26
SPEAKER_03: It's so nice to hear from you.
13:27
SPEAKER_03: How's the life?
13:28
SPEAKER_05: Well, no back in school.
13:31
SPEAKER_05: No, no, it's never a voice there.
13:34
SPEAKER_06: Oh, sorry.
13:35
SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, Johnny, you're we're we're doing a podcast.
13:38
SPEAKER_06: I'm sorry, you know, I gotta mention that up front because that's we're doing a podcast.
13:42
SPEAKER_06: What's a what's a podcast?
13:44
SPEAKER_06: Oh, that's where it's like radio, except it's not on the radio, you know.
13:47
SPEAKER_06: It's like you gotta go to a computer and it's and it's shorter than radio because radio keeps going and podcasts don't.
13:53
SPEAKER_03: Okay.
13:55
SPEAKER_03: Well, uh okay.
13:56
SPEAKER_03: If you ask the Matthews, uh had to have been, let's see, history class.
14:01
SPEAKER_03: Uh yeah, it's not ringing any bells.
14:04
SPEAKER_03: Anything else?
14:05
SPEAKER_06: Wow.
14:06
SPEAKER_06: Well, you know, I know you lived in the blue house that was like two blocks down on the corner with the busy street, and we used to go out there, we throw snowballs at the cars.
14:15
SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah.
14:16
SPEAKER_06: Remember that?
14:16
SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah, two blocks down, Steve.
14:18
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah, uh, yeah, that was me.
14:20
SPEAKER_03: I think.
14:20
SPEAKER_03: Uh see Steve Williams.
14:23
SPEAKER_06: No, we did go to high school with a guy named Steve Williams, but he lived he lived two blocks the other way.
14:27
SPEAKER_06: No, uh yeah, Steve Steve McCray.
14:30
SPEAKER_06: No, I don't think I knew him.
14:32
SPEAKER_03: Ebenathie.
14:33
SPEAKER_03: No, ah man.
14:35
SPEAKER_03: Uh, sorry, I'm usually pretty good with faces, though.
14:38
SPEAKER_03: I guess I can't see anymore.
14:39
SPEAKER_03: Uh look, uh, anything else I'm not remembered you from.
14:43
SPEAKER_06: You know, Johnny, I gotta say, if you don't remember me from all that, I I don't know that anything else is gonna work.
14:49
SPEAKER_03: Okay, well, you know, we've uh look, I'm trying to go through all the Steves we had in history class.
14:54
SPEAKER_03: Uh, I'm sure there was plenty.
14:55
SPEAKER_03: Uh, let's see, there's Steve Green, Steve Baldwin, Steve Adams.
15:02
SPEAKER_02: Uh, are you sure your first name was Steven?
15:05
SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, no, it always was.
15:06
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, let me let me break in here for a second.
15:08
SPEAKER_05: Maybe the problem is it's it's maybe it's a different history class.
15:12
SPEAKER_05: Do you remember the name of your teacher?
15:15
SPEAKER_06: Oh, I remember my teachers.
15:17
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I've Miss Petty, of course.
15:19
SPEAKER_06: Everybody remembers her.
15:20
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, Miss Petty.
15:21
SPEAKER_05: So maybe that was Miss Petty.
15:23
SPEAKER_05: So you were in the same class, so that's good.
15:25
SPEAKER_05: And you both had two arms.
15:27
SPEAKER_05: All right.
15:27
SPEAKER_03: It's a thing.
15:28
SPEAKER_03: Hey, sweetie.
15:30
SPEAKER_03: He's talking about you.
15:32
SPEAKER_03: Hey.
15:33
SPEAKER_03: You remember Steven in history class?
15:36
SPEAKER_03: Huh?
15:38
SPEAKER_03: Come over here.
15:38
SPEAKER_03: He says he knows you.
15:39
SPEAKER_03: What?
15:40
SPEAKER_02: What's he what Johnny?
15:41
SPEAKER_02: What's going on?
15:43
SPEAKER_02: Hello?
15:44
SPEAKER_06: Miss That sounds like Miss Petty.
15:46
SPEAKER_02: Well, it's actually Miss Flynn now, but yes, at one time it was Miss Petty.
15:50
SPEAKER_02: Oh, Miss Flynn.
15:52
SPEAKER_02: This is Steve.
15:53
SPEAKER_02: Remember, I was in your I was in your history class.
15:56
SPEAKER_02: Stephen Williams?
15:58
SPEAKER_06: No.
15:58
SPEAKER_06: No, he lived two two blocks the other way.
16:00
SPEAKER_03: Oh, okay.
16:01
SPEAKER_03: So uh Mr.
16:03
SPEAKER_03: It's not Abernazy.
16:04
SPEAKER_03: It's uh Aloy.
16:05
SPEAKER_03: Stephen?
16:06
SPEAKER_03: That's it.
16:06
SPEAKER_03: Yes.
16:06
SPEAKER_03: Yes.
16:07
SPEAKER_03: Oh, hello Stephen.
16:09
SPEAKER_02: Oh gosh, wonderful to talk to you.
16:11
SPEAKER_02: Oh my goodness.
16:12
SPEAKER_02: Are you always punctional and you always made sure to include your full last name since we had so many of them?
16:17
SPEAKER_02: I did indeed.
16:18
SPEAKER_02: I did indeed.
16:19
SPEAKER_02: My spelling was so good, too.
16:20
SPEAKER_02: All the time.
16:21
SPEAKER_03: Which would have been great if I was a spelling teacher and I was a history teacher.
16:24
SPEAKER_02: And yeah, my history was a little little bad with the dates and the names, which is pretty much the whole point of history, Stephen.
16:32
SPEAKER_06: Well, and we've kind of run through a lot of names here, and the names are still kind of tough.
16:36
SPEAKER_06: And and I haven't had a date, and I don't remember how long.
16:38
SPEAKER_06: So yeah, I'm still kind of bad with that stuff, you know.
16:41
SPEAKER_06: Oh, you you always were the funny one in class.
16:43
SPEAKER_06: Ah, yes.
16:44
SPEAKER_06: Well, see, see that and now I've got a Miss Petty or or um Miss Flynn.
16:48
SPEAKER_06: Now I've got a podcast, a comedy podcast.
16:51
SPEAKER_06: We've won awards.
16:52
SPEAKER_06: You should listen.
16:54
SPEAKER_06: It's wherever you wherever you stream podcasts, you can hear us.
16:58
SPEAKER_02: Oh, um, I'm sure when I get to streaming, I will I will stream whatever this is.
17:03
SPEAKER_02: Is there a reason you are calling my house this late?
17:06
SPEAKER_02: We were talking about people we knew way back that we had please please use please prop addiction, stand up, be confident in your words.
17:12
SPEAKER_06: Okay.
17:13
SPEAKER_06: We were talking about people who we hadn't talked to in a long time, who we knew a long time ago, and your name came up.
17:21
SPEAKER_05: Can I interrupt here for a second?
17:22
SPEAKER_05: There's an elephant in the room.
17:24
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I think that elephant's name is Flint.
17:27
SPEAKER_05: Are you tutoring Johnny right now?
17:30
SPEAKER_03: Or no, Johnny.
17:31
SPEAKER_03: Johnny's graduated from school a long time ago.
17:34
SPEAKER_03: I mean, we do role play a little bit in the uh in the room.
17:39
SPEAKER_03: Uh sometimes we do, you know, teacher, student, there are rulers involved.
17:44
SPEAKER_03: Look, this is wow.
17:45
SPEAKER_03: We are married.
17:46
SPEAKER_03: We are a married couple, we are allowed to do what we like when we like.
17:51
SPEAKER_05: How long have you been married?
17:52
SPEAKER_03: Well, uh, he was uh graduated from college, uh so I'd say um 30, 40 that years, I guess.
18:00
SPEAKER_03: I don't again, I'm not uh too keen on the time.
18:04
SPEAKER_03: What is age is a number, and again, I am a history teacher.
18:07
SPEAKER_06: You know, I gotta say, Miss Flynn, you you always were the best-looking teacher at that school, so I'm not surprised that Johnny married you.
18:15
SPEAKER_06: Johnny's a lucky guy.
18:17
SPEAKER_03: He's a man, he's a full-grown man.
18:19
SPEAKER_03: We've gone to court about this.
18:21
SPEAKER_03: He is a fine person, and I am a married woman, Stevens.
18:25
SPEAKER_03: So please stop objectifying me as such.
18:28
SPEAKER_03: Oh, I'm I'm sorry.
18:30
SPEAKER_02: Gosh, I'm getting in trouble in school, and I haven't been in school in years.
18:33
SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
18:34
SPEAKER_03: Is there anything further you would wish to discuss with either myself or Mr.
18:37
SPEAKER_03: Flint?
18:37
SPEAKER_05: I have a question.
18:38
SPEAKER_05: Are you married to any of the other students that Steve had in his class?
18:42
SPEAKER_05: Because that would really be that'd be something because then it would be like one stop shop.
18:47
SPEAKER_05: We could just talk to all of them.
18:48
SPEAKER_06: No, Jeff, I didn't go to school in Utah.
18:50
SPEAKER_06: Come on.
18:50
SPEAKER_03: Yes, that would that is that is bigamy, and that is illegal in the state of Illinois.
18:55
SPEAKER_03: That's bigamy too, but again, who is who is the jokester?
19:00
SPEAKER_06: Always with it, always with it.
19:01
SPEAKER_06: Well, well, it was great to talk to you, you know, Miss Petty.
19:04
SPEAKER_06: I I mean Miss Flynn.
19:07
SPEAKER_03: Yes, well, I I think the pleasure was all yours.
19:10
SPEAKER_03: Thank you, both gentlemen.
19:11
SPEAKER_06: Goodbye.
19:12
SPEAKER_06: Thank you.
19:12
SPEAKER_06: Wow, Jeff.
19:13
SPEAKER_06: You know, sometimes you make calls and you learn things, and sometimes you learn things that you didn't know, and you didn't know that you didn't want to know.
19:21
SPEAKER_06: You know what I mean?
19:22
SPEAKER_05: I remember that I contacted Miss Banner, she was my sixth grade teacher, and the only thing that was interesting about her was that she remembered my stutter, and that's how she recognized me, but she never married one of the students that I went to school with.
19:36
SPEAKER_05: Steve, you're very lucky.
19:37
SPEAKER_05: These are two really good calls.
19:39
SPEAKER_06: We had a Miss Banner at my school, too.
19:41
SPEAKER_06: I think every school had a Miss Banner.
19:43
SPEAKER_06: That could be I don't know.
19:44
SPEAKER_06: I think that's like a teacher name or something.
19:46
SPEAKER_06: I every school, I do Miss Banner, you're kind of austere, very strict, right?
19:50
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I Steve, I feel like we're on this streak.
19:53
SPEAKER_05: I don't want to break it by getting a hold of somebody that would be boring or whatever, but Steve, I wish I had your life.
20:00
SPEAKER_05: You are the luckiest guy.
20:02
SPEAKER_05: Well, except for Johnny Flynn.
20:03
SPEAKER_06: You you might the luckiest person ever.
20:06
SPEAKER_06: I was just thinking, uh, my first job, yeah, I worked at a Burger King, and yeah, you probably remember back then they had the commercial where the Burger King lady would talk to them, would sing into the microphone.
20:16
SPEAKER_06: I used to do that.
20:17
SPEAKER_06: I go, hold the pickle, hold the lettuce, special orders, don't ups.
20:21
SPEAKER_06: I used to sing.
20:23
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and I, you know, I got fired fairly quickly.
20:25
SPEAKER_06: But while I was there, I digress, while I was there, I work with this guy, and we used to hang out.
20:31
SPEAKER_06: We used to, you know, cause trouble and you know, smoke cigarettes and drink after after work.
20:36
SPEAKER_06: Stan, Stan D'Mano, man, he uh Stan was it was a great kid.
20:41
SPEAKER_06: We were like juvies uh out there causing trouble.
20:43
SPEAKER_06: And I, you know, maybe let's give Stan a call.
20:46
SPEAKER_06: How do you spell his last name?
20:47
SPEAKER_06: It's D-A-M-A-N-O.
20:49
SPEAKER_05: There's no record here of it.
20:51
SPEAKER_05: Maybe we should call the Burger King because they keep those employment records forever.
20:55
SPEAKER_05: So maybe we could call the Burger King and maybe they could tell us like a forwarding address or somebody there who might remember where he was from.
21:03
SPEAKER_05: Do you should we uh that's a great idea?
21:05
SPEAKER_06: It was a Burger King on university.
21:06
SPEAKER_06: Uh-huh.
21:07
SPEAKER_06: So that's right.
21:08
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I remember.
21:08
SPEAKER_05: Why don't we give that a try?
21:10
SPEAKER_06: Sure, okay.
21:19
SPEAKER_03: Hello, it's Burger King.
21:20
SPEAKER_06: How can I help you?
21:22
SPEAKER_06: Hey, hey, I was just wondering.
21:23
SPEAKER_06: A guy worked there a bunch of years ago, and I don't know if you still have records for him, but a guy named Stan Demono.
21:29
SPEAKER_02: Can you spell Demano for me?
21:31
SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, it's D-A-M-A-N-O.
21:34
SPEAKER_02: Oh man.
21:35
SPEAKER_02: Hold on just a moment.
21:36
SPEAKER_03: I actually can do you one better.
21:38
SPEAKER_03: Oh.
21:39
SPEAKER_03: Stan.
21:40
SPEAKER_03: Hey Stan.
21:41
SPEAKER_03: Oh my gosh.
21:41
SPEAKER_03: Hey Stan, why don't you go ahead and take a break and come back on?
21:45
SPEAKER_03: There's a guy that wants to talk to you.
21:49
SPEAKER_03: Outbreaking.
21:50
SPEAKER_06: Stan.
21:52
SPEAKER_06: Stan Damon.
21:53
SPEAKER_06: This is Steve.
21:54
SPEAKER_06: We uh we worked together.
21:55
SPEAKER_06: It was my first job at Burger King back in high school.
21:58
SPEAKER_06: We used to smoke cigarettes and drink out.
22:00
SPEAKER_06: Back for Google Boy.
22:02
SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
22:06
SPEAKER_06: Oh, Stan, great to talk to you after all these years.
22:09
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, well, I'll let you know they gave me about a 15-minute break to you know, and I and I do want to go to the bathroom at least once.
22:15
SPEAKER_03: So forgive me if I might make this seem rushed.
22:18
SPEAKER_03: We're we're we're dead sent in the middle of lunch rush.
22:21
SPEAKER_06: So oh yeah, I don't want to I don't want to bother you because I remember.
22:24
SPEAKER_06: So you're you're still at Burger King, I hear.
22:26
SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah, yeah.
22:27
SPEAKER_03: I'm uh been the very much the uh employee of the month for the last 12 years.
22:32
SPEAKER_06: Hey, that's that sounds like you, Stan.
22:34
SPEAKER_06: I'll tell you, you were always Johnny on the spot.
22:37
SPEAKER_06: You were always ready and and doing the doing a good job there, you know.
22:40
SPEAKER_03: Yep.
22:40
SPEAKER_03: Well that's that's what that you know that's why they you know that's my last name, Demano.
22:45
SPEAKER_03: So that's that's me.
22:47
SPEAKER_03: Stan Domano.
22:49
SPEAKER_06: Stan Domano, that's right.
22:51
SPEAKER_06: Oh my gosh, Stan, it's so great to talk to you.
22:54
SPEAKER_06: Hey, I don't want to get you in trouble at work, but oh no, it's fine.
22:57
SPEAKER_03: I'm just I'm uh you know, I don't really get to talk a lot with anybody here.
23:00
SPEAKER_03: All these kids are just way underneath my uh experience level to the point.
23:05
SPEAKER_03: I hear them talking about things like TikToks and all that kind of stuff.
23:09
SPEAKER_03: My eyes just kind of glaze over.
23:10
SPEAKER_03: So it's nice to speak with somebody who's actually kind of got a got a good head on his shoulders.
23:15
SPEAKER_03: So what what have you been up to?
23:17
SPEAKER_06: Oh, I've I've got a comedy podcast now.
23:20
SPEAKER_06: So we're in fact you're you're on the podcast right now, so you're gonna be on this comedy podcast.
23:24
SPEAKER_06: You can listen to it wherever it's streamed, wherever you listen to podcasts.
23:28
SPEAKER_06: Really?
23:28
SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
23:29
SPEAKER_06: So you think you're better than me?
23:31
SPEAKER_03: Well, no, maybe just I have a podcast, but okay.
23:36
SPEAKER_03: Well, oh, Mr.
23:37
SPEAKER_03: Fancy, I I got my podcasting license.
23:39
SPEAKER_03: I can't I'm gonna humble myself to talk down to the burger guy.
23:43
SPEAKER_03: Oh no, I just wanted to give you a call because we used to hang out and you know, it was great, it was it was fun when you were here and around me for those two weeks.
23:52
SPEAKER_06: You were the only guy other than my mom that I could drink with back then.
23:55
SPEAKER_03: Well, I mean, you you kind of made it really hard on me.
23:59
SPEAKER_03: You just rolled up and grabbed the beer bottle out of my hand.
24:02
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I guess I did that.
24:03
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's why I started, you know, started to attach glue onto the bottles of mad dog that I used to drink so you couldn't pull it out.
24:11
SPEAKER_03: Oh gosh, mad dog.
24:12
SPEAKER_03: Remember those?
24:13
SPEAKER_03: Oh gosh.
24:14
SPEAKER_03: Oh, good enough.
24:16
SPEAKER_03: And if you pour it on the grill a little bit, you get a little more flame in the whopper.
24:19
SPEAKER_03: You sure do.
24:20
SPEAKER_03: Again, that's that's how you do it.
24:22
SPEAKER_06: It's like a whopper saute, you know, uh exactly.
24:24
SPEAKER_06: I mean a whopper with mad dog.
24:26
SPEAKER_03: It's just a whopper's so good.
24:28
SPEAKER_03: You get a you get a frame broiled whopper with a mad dog reduction, and it's just yeah, just hits the spot right there.
24:35
SPEAKER_06: It's so good.
24:36
SPEAKER_06: I used to actually dip the French fries in in the mad dog too.
24:38
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, just yeah, it gives them a I don't know, kind of a tang, you know.
24:43
SPEAKER_03: It's great for the fries, it ruins the mad dog, though.
24:45
SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
24:45
SPEAKER_03: Then it gets too much salt in there.
24:47
SPEAKER_03: But uh well, uh I mean I gotta get it back on, I guess, and Lord knows I'm probably holding up the line here.
24:54
SPEAKER_03: You go ahead and do what you gotta do with your podcast, and I hope it becomes I guess uh successful if whatever that looks like.
25:02
SPEAKER_03: Stan was great to talk to you.
25:04
SPEAKER_03: Just great.
25:05
SPEAKER_03: All right.
25:05
SPEAKER_03: Well, you remember the good times because oh thank you.
25:08
SPEAKER_03: They don't always last.
25:10
SPEAKER_06: Goodbye.
25:10
SPEAKER_06: Oh, hey, wow, good talking with you, Stan.
25:13
SPEAKER_06: Boy, Jeff is so nice to talk to somebody that I used to hang with.
25:17
SPEAKER_05: Fun?
25:18
SPEAKER_06: This is so nice, and people have done such wonderful things with their lives, and not nearly as much as we have.
25:24
SPEAKER_05: Well, that's the point.
25:26
SPEAKER_05: Well, and that's why you do these calls.
25:28
SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, I get you.
25:29
SPEAKER_05: Okay.
25:30
SPEAKER_05: Oh, oh, I thought I made that clear at the beginning.
25:32
SPEAKER_05: I think we have time for one more, and this one is actually we one that we share, Steve.
25:38
SPEAKER_05: His last name was Dicker.
25:39
SPEAKER_05: We he was in our youth group.
25:41
SPEAKER_05: Do you remember?
25:42
SPEAKER_05: Was it Ralph Ralph Dicker?
25:44
SPEAKER_05: Ralph Dicker.
25:44
SPEAKER_05: And we both kind of know him.
25:46
SPEAKER_05: And while you were talking to uh your burger boy there, I looked up his phone number and I found it.
25:54
SPEAKER_05: So maybe we got enough time just to do a quick call and say hi to uh what what is his name again?
26:00
SPEAKER_05: Ralph?
26:00
SPEAKER_06: Ralph, Ralph Dickers.
26:01
SPEAKER_06: Was it Ralph?
26:02
SPEAKER_05: Ralphie Boy.
26:03
SPEAKER_05: I remember I used to be a few.
26:03
SPEAKER_05: Ralphie boy.
26:04
SPEAKER_05: We used to be a good one.
26:07
SPEAKER_06: And I'll tell you, he took so much abuse as a kid, you know.
26:10
SPEAKER_06: I mean, people made fun of him.
26:12
SPEAKER_05: That's a tough thing, you know?
26:13
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, people made fun of him, and you know, we were his friends.
26:16
SPEAKER_06: We he was a nice guy, you know.
26:17
SPEAKER_06: We just hung with him, you know.
26:19
SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
26:20
SPEAKER_06: It'd be good to talk to him, see what he's up to these days.
26:22
SPEAKER_05: All right.
26:23
SPEAKER_05: Should we give that a try?
26:24
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
26:30
SPEAKER_06: Hearing the ringing.
26:33
SPEAKER_06: Nothing's there.
26:34
SPEAKER_06: Nothing's there, I don't think.
26:37
SPEAKER_06: Oh, it's gonna go to voicemail in a minute.
26:39
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, just go ahead and hang up, Jeff.
26:41
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I don't care.
26:42
SPEAKER_05: Okay, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, let's listen.
26:45
SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, yeah.
26:46
SPEAKER_05: It's he's gone.
26:47
SPEAKER_05: You know, yeah, Steve, people are so cruel.
26:50
SPEAKER_05: I've always said to you that people's last names kind of give away who they are.
26:55
SPEAKER_05: You know, like if uh if you're if you're Joe Plumber, chances are you're a plumber.
26:59
SPEAKER_05: I just feel bad because it was kind of like he was just sort of telling everybody who he was.
27:05
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, with a name like Dicker.
27:07
SPEAKER_05: And we weren't as responsible with that kind of information as as I wish we could have been, you know.
27:13
SPEAKER_06: I've often wondered maybe if he was named Ralph Kunzler, would that have made a difference?
27:17
SPEAKER_06: I I don't know the difference.
27:19
SPEAKER_05: I think so.
27:20
SPEAKER_05: I think it would have meant a lot.
27:21
SPEAKER_05: It's one of those regrets I have.
27:23
SPEAKER_05: I wish he had gotten on the phone.
27:24
SPEAKER_05: We could have uh talked to him about like what his life is like, and you know, maybe he's maybe he's married now.
27:30
SPEAKER_05: I would like to apologize for you know all those jokes.
27:33
SPEAKER_05: You know, teenagers can be so cruel.
27:35
SPEAKER_06: Well, I'd like to apologize for the the other kids.
27:37
SPEAKER_06: I mean, we oh we were kind of we were nice to him, but nicer than other kids.
27:41
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, well, nice nice relative to the people that horribly abused him.
27:46
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, no, we were yeah, it was funny.
27:48
SPEAKER_05: It wasn't like we were mean, it was just he was funny.
27:50
SPEAKER_05: You know, Jeff wasn't on purpose.
27:52
SPEAKER_06: Calling all these people from my past has really opened my eyes to a whole new way of living, maybe not segmenting my life, see my life as a continuity, not a series of little boxes on the hillside made of taper jackie.
28:06
SPEAKER_05: I agree with you completely, and I think the bottom line is having three arms or having a name that says you're gay is okay.
28:14
SPEAKER_05: It is, it's okay.
28:16
SPEAKER_05: It wasn't okay maybe back when we were younger, but it is now.
28:19
