Transcript
- 0:01Welcome back to the Duckfellas podcast, episode 39, and it's officially time to get jacked.
- 0:10We're back. We're so back. Well, we got three more days without going duck hunting for us.
- 0:17Yep. Saturday morning, big day.
- 0:20Yeah. I can't believe it. It feels like it's been forever, but then again,
- 0:24it feels like time has flown to this point.
- 0:27I mean, I know we've all got to go out hunting now, whether it was this past
- 0:30week in goose hunting, or I went to North Dakota or dove hunting,
- 0:34that stuff. But, man, it kind of feels like it flew by the summer.
- 0:38Well, it's not saying the days go slow and the years go fast,
- 0:41right? So, it seems like days and weeks are kind of slowed down,
- 0:44and the next thing you know, you're blanking hunting season's here again,
- 0:46and we're scrambling to get stuff ready.
- 0:49Oh, shit on that. Yeah. Some stuff never changes. No, I don't think it ever
- 0:54will. Probably never will. Mm-mm. Oh, no.
- 0:58So, anything new with you guys? I know I've pretty much seen Austin all weekend.
- 1:03Zach made a guest appearance, like, what, twice? And had to get out of there
- 1:07really quick because he was shy?
- 1:09Yeah, I get nervous in big crowds. Yeah, he peed himself on Sunday so he had
- 1:13to leave immediately. Twice.
- 1:15So, wow. Yeah. Yeah. Nothing new.
- 1:18Nothing new on my end. I mean, getting a few things done around the house and,
- 1:22still just burping babies and changing diapers. Feel that.
- 1:28What is that? Kissing hands and shaking babies. Mm-hmm. Yeah.
- 1:33Well, I can't relate. I don't have that.
- 1:36Well. None that you take care of, I guess, but. Whoa. Whoa. If I knew about
- 1:41him, I'd take care of him. Or claim, at least.
- 1:46Tax reasons only. There's that.
- 1:49Well, let's talk a little bit of kind of our prep and everything that goes into,
- 1:56leading up to this opening day a little bit.
- 1:59Like the week leading up to it here for scouting-wise. I mean,
- 2:03I know I'm out of town a lot.
- 2:06I can't really scout this week, which generally we don't have to do a lot of
- 2:10scouting for ducks. It's normally we kind of know where the ducks are going
- 2:14to be this time of year and throughout the season.
- 2:16But we have, what are we going to have, like 10 more feet of water than normal?
- 2:2110 or 11, yeah. It's wildly high.
- 2:25I think it is closer to 11, especially like opening weekend water levels.
- 2:30Usually, I think we'll be closer to 11. So that might spread them out a little
- 2:35bit, make it a little more difficult. I know Zach and I will still be around.
- 2:39I'm pretty fortunate with my job that I just, I'm in a car for nine hours a
- 2:43day, like just driving around. So, I mean, probably not going to see a ton of
- 2:49birds in the air, like in full swing, but.
- 2:52Yeah, I mean, I'm going to try to, I figured me and Austin might get the little
- 2:57boat out, I don't know, Thursday or Friday, try to catch some stuff.
- 3:00I wouldn't mind going to check a couple spots Friday morning or maybe Thursday
- 3:04morning, see what's flying around in the area. I mean, I think I've got a pretty
- 3:07good idea based on what we saw scouting for early deuce.
- 3:11On where some are at, right? But go check it out. You know, one thing I'll say
- 3:16is like, it's exciting and all. Like, it's opening day.
- 3:18It's always fun to go opening day. I don't get a lot of them normally because
- 3:22I take off in November when it kind of gets, the weather gets better.
- 3:26And that's one thing I'm not excited about this weekend is it being 80 degrees.
- 3:30So hopefully we're killed out pretty quick or we'll be done before it gets too
- 3:35hot. Because I'm not there in the heat. Oh my God.
- 3:40It's actually funny that you say that as well, too, because this is my first
- 3:43opening day, because usually opening weekend here is opening non-resident for
- 3:50pheasant hunting up in South Dakota.
- 3:51So the wife and I are usually up there for the whole weekend,
- 3:54and I usually miss opening weekend here and then just come back and hunt after
- 4:01the break. So I don't know, maybe I'm a.
- 4:09Everything too you just feel like you don't get out near as much i mean very
- 4:13thankful for my wife and i spent far too much time with tyler this weekend getting
- 4:19a bunch of shit done but whoa,
- 4:21it was good to get out of the house it was good for i'm glad that she was able
- 4:25to bring weston over and hang out tyler got to meet weston too so that was cool
- 4:29he got to watch the football game too bad the,
- 4:32chiefs uh pulled that one out watch the football game like i think i watched
- 4:37a total of 20 minutes of football all day until I went inside the house.
- 4:42Yeah, no, I'm saying that Weston got to watch more football than we did,
- 4:45for sure. Weston was big vibing over there.
- 4:47Absolutely. Great chillin'.
- 4:51Yeah, speaking of weather, though, I mean, I know obviously for opening weekend
- 4:54it's going to be hot, but have you guys seen the 10-day? Yep.
- 4:58So what's your guys' 10-day saying? Because my 10-day for home doesn't show
- 5:03a cold front yet, but I've been seeing the cold front now in Canada and North Dakota.
- 5:08That's going to hit like Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and it's a pretty impressive cold front.
- 5:14Yeah, I'm saying, I was seeing today our cold front's going to be Monday night,
- 5:18pressure drops, temp drops.
- 5:20So we're going from a high of like 80 or 81 Monday down to 60 on Tuesday with
- 5:25lows in the 40s, like low 40s, you know.
- 5:28But with that front, I was checking out the Dakotas and Minnesota and Canada
- 5:32and looks like Monday, Tuesday Dakotas are supposed to be highs of low 30s.
- 5:37Yeah, so I have a couple places in Canada on my weather bug,
- 5:42and one of them is Saskatoon that I've been watching.
- 5:45And, like, Saturday their high is 37, and that's the warmest they get until Tuesday.
- 5:50And they get to freezing or below freezing for the next, like,
- 5:54starting Saturday night for, like, six days straight. So it's not going to push
- 6:00a bunch of ducks. It's not going to make a massive push.
- 6:03There's no snow that I can see in the forecast, like, accumulating.
- 6:07But it's going to push some gray ducks and a fair amount of birds down to get
- 6:12the migration really going, which, you know, will be nice to just miss it by
- 6:17a day probably because they'll probably show up Monday or Tuesday for us.
- 6:20And then I won't see them.
- 6:21Sounds about right. No, just looking at the weather, Saturday,
- 6:25Sunday, Monday in the 80s, and then come Wednesday or Tuesday,
- 6:30Wednesday, it's in the mid-low 60s as well with highs in the 40s overnight.
- 6:36So it is here at home and it's not it's not the perfect weather for hunting
- 6:41still here but it's it's better than being 81 82 like we're forecasted to be
- 6:46Saturday and both our weekend off our weekend off,
- 6:50is in the 50s here so of course naturally that's how it goes we're just,
- 6:57just one week in ahead but well at least it gives us go ahead Saturday I'll
- 7:02be in in my waders I will be wearing boxers, no socks, and a wife beater.
- 7:09Absolutely. We will have pictures for our viewers of that, just in case you were wondering.
- 7:16I ain't be out there sweating like a fat kid at church camp.
- 7:23Here we go. But no, it should be interesting. And I'll be really curious as
- 7:29to what kind of ducks are seeing this week or next week as the first week carries on.
- 7:36Because obviously it's only open for seven days. It closes back out Friday.
- 7:40At sunset there for just a week, right? Seven days?
- 7:44Yeah, I believe so. Friday to the next Saturday. Yep.
- 7:50But yeah, so I can't believe that we get to go hunting this weekend and actually
- 7:53shoot ducks, unlike watching kids shoot ducks this past weekend. Yeah.
- 7:58Trenton brings up a good point. He was texting me the other day.
- 8:02Because you know how we do goose wars? Well, we don't put it on.
- 8:05Oh my God. Talking about goose wars.
- 8:08So he wants to start something called Coot Wars and I was supposed to bring
- 8:12it up to you guys I never did,
- 8:15okay what's I mean same same principles I would assume so all season long or
- 8:21are we putting a time restraint,
- 8:25I think we should oh that's a good one we could do like a competition on whoever
- 8:28kills the most coots throughout the season I would only shoot a coot legally,
- 8:34legally yes everything's above board here Yeah.
- 8:40I mean, I don't hate it because it's kind of fun and it's.
- 8:45Well, coots are invasive, like
- 8:47to nesting habitat and bird, like mallard nests and they eat their eggs.
- 8:52I was going to say, they're egg breakers.
- 8:55Hats off to everybody that does go out and shoot a limited coots every now and
- 8:57again. Like, appreciate your hard work.
- 9:00And I mean, them boys down, I mean, I read a couple articles of them boys down south love coots.
- 9:05I'm not saying I will eat one, but I wouldn't be opposed to trying it the way they say to cook them.
- 9:11No. Tried coot once and I will never try it again. Yeah. I don't know if I could get behind that.
- 9:16I don't even want to talk about it. I don't remember. I don't care.
- 9:20I erased it from my memory other than the fact that I know to never eat a coot again.
- 9:25I would try it once. If this is the way though that we get to shoot coots without
- 9:30dad yelling at us like no you can't do it sign me up. I'm all in.
- 9:35And that would you know Todd's comment that banned coots I do want to point
- 9:39out that we did say we were going to put a banded duck in the boat and that
- 9:42will be just our luck that it'll be a banded coot instead of that would be hilarious,
- 9:49i would love that so that'd be like a major point like i guess i could just
- 9:53be like the goose wars was that three points for a band,
- 9:56yep yeah you can keep the point system the same i think or like similar to it
- 10:02yeah similar because we do a season long do a point of bird three for a band
- 10:06because we're not doing first to a limit or anything like that.
- 10:10First to 50 coots, first to 150.
- 10:16Coots. Yeah. Oh, my God. All right, Trenton. Let's see. They're a little skin
- 10:18in the game here. What do we want to do? Yeah. Yeah, you're here,
- 10:21Trenton. Tell us what we're up to here.
- 10:24I'm sure Todd Copley, he's in the chat. He'll join the competition. Todd loves coots.
- 10:30Brett, he ate one last year. Tasted like a duck. Tried enough. I'm about to throw up.
- 10:37Sounds like a terrible start to a child bug I mean that's risk and reward you
- 10:43don't know what you're going to get true.
- 10:46But first you got the reward and then it was all risk after that you know what,
- 10:52I like this thought let's side table this and come back because I want to see
- 10:56where Trenton's head is with this point system and season long or what,
- 11:02this would have to be in my opinion this would have to be like a season long
- 11:05thing We could make a board and just go do all in on it.
- 11:12Todd's in. We already got multiple teams.
- 11:15Start a Facebook group. We'll talk with Leavitt Graphics about t-shirts. I'll order a trophy.
- 11:22I will say, speaking of Leavitt Graphics and t-shirts, we do need to,
- 11:28anybody listening here, see if you are interested in getting a hoodie this year.
- 11:32I'm sure we will be doing another run because we only did the dfp logo in white,
- 11:38so if i do that logo with something on the back maybe it's just our like our
- 11:43og design or something but if you're interested in getting a hoodie reach out
- 11:48shoot us a message on instagram or facebook and or any of us directly,
- 11:54So we can kind of see what the interest is there and get those going because,
- 11:58we probably should get that done pretty quick if there's interest there.
- 12:02So what Brett just said, how much to do a coot limit dead mount in the new shop?
- 12:10I will not be doing one, but if Brett and Woody Creek Taxidermy would like to
- 12:14donate a coot limit dead mount to the winner, we could do something like that.
- 12:20Honestly, if he would even do like a So the winner gets like a 50% off a cute
- 12:25mouth, but he gets to pick the pose.
- 12:27So it'd be like Captain Morgan on a bush light can or smoking a pack of Marlboros
- 12:32or something like that. I think that would be...
- 12:34We're going to have to get this ball rolling like this week on this.
- 12:36So, Brett, you need to think about it. If you're interested in teaming up and
- 12:40joining this movement, let us know.
- 12:42Loser, loser, since he's going to do something cool with Woody Creek,
- 12:46the loser has to pay full price to his girlfriend, fiance, wife for a cute tattoo. Hmm.
- 12:55Interesting. Wouldn't that be something? Getting a coot tattooed on you.
- 12:59I could see Zach doing it, honestly. I wouldn't be scared. I'd probably put
- 13:03it right here, like a little coot.
- 13:05I was thinking right here on your neck, but yeah, that's the same.
- 13:10I think I'd get him, I'd probably get him like full spread eagle just right across the chest.
- 13:18And just get him like coot tattooed along the water. just running across her chest.
- 13:25You know, Trenton got us going down this road, and now he's all silent in the
- 13:29chat. I know. He just ghosted us.
- 13:32It's criminal. It's like it was a Tinder date.
- 13:35Just ghosted all of Tyler's. He just got ghosted after the third message.
- 13:39I don't ever make it to the third one. It's like the second one at most.
- 13:44Well, let's talk about, like you said earlier, let's side table that for a minute
- 13:47here, and let's move into this Comerant deal that you were talking about.
- 13:52Yeah. old senator ted cruz i was reading i know bill smith shared the post by
- 13:58rack junkies as well so i read that so i did a little research on it,
- 14:01ted cruz and another senator out of texas katie brit introduced the responsible
- 14:07cormorant cormorant cormorant cormorant management act,
- 14:11so they want to and there's no specifics on limits or or how many or anything like that but,
- 14:17and they want to open up some cormorant hunting in texas,
- 14:21due to the stats i was reading was cormorants eat a pound of fish a day and
- 14:26i estimate there's a hundred million,
- 14:29coot or god got my mind on coots cormorants in the united states so quick math
- 14:35right 100 million pounds of fish and apparently it's affecting the fish farms
- 14:39or the fisheries down south,
- 14:43So, I mean, if it starts in Texas, works its way north, I'd be down shooting a limit of cormorants.
- 14:52You know, I could probably dabble as well. I mean, I don't know what sound they
- 14:55make. Honestly, I've never paid attention.
- 14:59But...
- 15:02He don't so Zach doesn't even practice duck calling but I could see if they
- 15:05open up a comarant season Zach will be practicing comarant calling every single day yeah,
- 15:11I mean we're in a field and I'm practicing my greater northern snow goose calls
- 15:15out of my goose calls so you think I wouldn't wouldn't try for some comarants,
- 15:20so like 42 pack to commit to the goose spread and just mollywop them,
- 15:26oh my god was that was that just in Texas they're trying to get that going for now yeah Yeah,
- 15:31I mean, I would assume it would kind of spread because one of their main points
- 15:34was some fisheries in Alabama.
- 15:36So I think he's the one that's just, I mean, Ted Cruz is an outdoorsman,
- 15:39right? He goes and hunts.
- 15:41I would assume his hope is that he introduces this in Texas and then other states kind of follow.
- 15:46Right. It'd be interesting to see. I mean, I know they did it somewhere before.
- 15:50I want to say Wisconsin or like Michigan. They had a season that they opened
- 15:54up temporarily or like to kill off X amount of them because they were getting
- 15:57the same deal overran with them Because they're federally protected, so you have to get...
- 16:02It's like it takes an act of Congress to be able to kill a comrade.
- 16:06Literally. I would like to know the benefit. Like, obviously,
- 16:12I'm not saying they need to be extinct, but I would like to know the benefit
- 16:15of having comrade in the ecosystem.
- 16:19Don't know. That's a good question, honestly. I mean, we literally almost hit two this weekend.
- 16:25Whoa. What are you talking about? Not hit, but they were floating on the log,
- 16:28and they would not fly. We came six foot away from the log.
- 16:32It's like the dodo bird. They went extinct for a reason because they're dying.
- 16:37Yeah, there's that.
- 16:39To answer a question real quick in the chat to writer, I don't know how to say his last name, Petri?
- 16:46Petri Petri? Asking if we were going out this weekend. Yeah,
- 16:49we will definitely be going out this weekend.
- 16:52Not very common for me, but we'll be out there probably both days.
- 16:56You know what they say about common people.
- 16:59Not this again. Yeah, I already burned you so bad earlier with that.
- 17:05We're not doing it. Cross-eyed reading that text message.
- 17:09That's not good. You were driving. No. Don't. No, I was not driving and texting.
- 17:14Really? Huh. Damn it. Crazy. Your ticket will be in the mail.
- 17:18Look at that. He's already writing it right now, too. He's getting his ticket book out. Yep.
- 17:24But no, there have been a lot of people bitching about Comerants.
- 17:26It's been coming more and more of a thing. So I like to see them. It happened.
- 17:32I don't know about you boys, but it seems like the past two years I've seen way more than ever.
- 17:38They're getting more common, for sure. I mean, yeah, you'd see a couple groups
- 17:42here and there, but we were scouting last week, and we seemed to have had to
- 17:47be 300 of them, at least, up high.
- 17:51Just lines and lines of them.
- 17:53I mean, the past couple years, it's all season now. It seemed like it used to
- 17:57only be early in the year when it was still really warm.
- 18:01But now we see lines of them, even in the goose season, where obviously up close,
- 18:07You can tell a comarant from a goose, but when they're pretty far away,
- 18:10sometimes it's like, are those comarants or those geese?
- 18:12And then you squint your eyes a little bit and you're like, yeah,
- 18:14those are not, those are not honkers. Those things have a tail on them. Yeah. Yeah.
- 18:20Yeah, I don't know. I'm overseeing them, but it's interesting to see if it makes
- 18:25anywhere, if they do get it done, if other southern states follow and it kind
- 18:30of works its way north or what.
- 18:32This really depends. I mean, like, for what they're trying to do,
- 18:35you got to really prove that they're a major problem for it to happen because
- 18:39it's federally protected birds. So, like, you have to come with all the facts. Right.
- 18:45Yeah. I mean, open up, then it's going to open up the conversation for other,
- 18:48federally protected animals as well.
- 18:50If they can get something like that past, it'll open that door.
- 18:54Could you imagine, though? That'd be so much fun. Maybe we just go to Texas
- 18:57and shoot some comarants before they get it going.
- 18:59Dude, comarants and sandhill cranes?
- 19:03Yes. Why not? The rib eye of the sky. Commies and cranes, 27.
- 19:08And the trash can of the sky.
- 19:11Yeah, the rib eye of the sky and the chakras of the sky.
- 19:18Oh, Rick. Do you want to let the listeners know that everybody made it to the
- 19:25hunt this past weekend and everyone was on time? So, that's still looking good.
- 19:30Numbers are great right now. Yep. So, we do. We are going to get a board set up.
- 19:38We have a whiteboard and a trailer now. I don't know if we'll use that.
- 19:40But we got to get something set up to where we can keep better track of this
- 19:43and keep everybody posted on it.
- 19:45But we only hunted one day. So, nobody was late. Everybody was on time.
- 19:49Things went as planned Saturday. Other than the fact that we didn't kill a lot of geese.
- 19:53Yeah, right. Yeah, that was a drag.
- 19:57Annoying. But no, so, Zach, you got a wedding Saturday night,
- 20:02right? Or something like that?
- 20:04Sure do. Not mine, but I do have a wedding. Would you, so let me ask you this.
- 20:09Would you like to commit to hunting Sunday now, live on the stream,
- 20:13so that way everybody knows you committed to going, and when you don't show
- 20:17up, that's a mark on your score.
- 20:20And if you don't commit right here, I was going to call you a bitch in the chat.
- 20:22So I would. Yeah, absolutely. Yes, they should.
- 20:24Like, I want to commit, right? You have to. If you don't commit, you are.
- 20:31Okay. All right. All right. All right. You're hearing it. You're hearing it
- 20:34here. I'll commit and I won't be late. Hear, hear.
- 20:38Hear ye, hear ye. Hear the LaVilla post.
- 20:43Zach Neuendorf says you will not be late for Sunday mornings.
- 20:48The LaVilla courier. do you guys do you guys by chance have a bible in your
- 20:52eyes house so we can swear on a firm yep can't say that I do oh okay well anyways,
- 20:59everybody heard it heard it here so I've got a copy of the red fur and grows if that counts,
- 21:03Austin do you have our notes from last one that you wrote down for or who wrote
- 21:08it down Zach I do Zach put it down so,
- 21:11what is our over unders and our guesses here on how many times you're gonna
- 21:15be late or don't show up yeah yeah so.
- 21:20So, Austin said I'd commit to 22,
- 21:23and I wouldn't be late for 15.
- 21:25Tyler, oh my God, my kid just exploded, sorry.
- 21:30Tyler said 19 and 13. Dang, I was hard on you. Jared King even got in on there, said 11. Yeah.
- 21:39What do you mean? What's 11? Like, you're going to miss 11, Hunt?
- 21:42I think so. I think he's, I think he, I was saying he said I'd only show up for 11.
- 21:47Well, he would like to place a bet. Yeah, he'd like to place a bet. Oh, well, let's hear it.
- 21:53Gambling is legal in Iowa, so let's go ahead and get this underway.
- 21:56Yeah, I mean, you're the one placing the bet. I can't sell it and buy it at the same time, so.
- 22:03What are we putting the line at this weekend? Yeah, he's not going Sunday.
- 22:07Carton of Virginia Slims.
- 22:12Just to confirm that Another person that's close with Zach Colton Bradley also Agrees that,
- 22:19Zach will not be there on Sunday Alright well When I am we'll do a Facebook
- 22:23live From the boat To let everybody know if I made it or not I swear if I wake
- 22:29up Sunday morning To go hunting and Zach's sleeping in my driveway,
- 22:34He's crashed into the dumpster just passed out.
- 22:38You never know. You never know. I've done some I've done some wild shit.
- 22:43So yes, I'll commit now. I'll do it. I'll be there. 9 a.m. Apology test.
- 22:50So it's Mr. Chase Sanders here. He commented something that I'm trying to read,
- 22:54but it's so small, so I'll pull it up.
- 22:56He said he loves the idea of being able to shoot camarants, but I bet the wanton
- 23:00waste would be incredibly high. I definitely agree with that because I wouldn't eat a camarant.
- 23:05Yep. He says he would eat 100% of them, and he imagines they taste similar to
- 23:09a common merg, which is possible.
- 23:12I've never ate a common merg, honestly. I've never killed one.
- 23:16Yeah, I've never eaten one.
- 23:18And then he feels most other folks would not share the same feelings on eating
- 23:21them and most would be disgusted without being clean.
- 23:24Disgarded. Whatever. Jesus Christ. Read it.
- 23:28Some of us worked way more than,
- 23:30two hours a day like Mr. Zach did today in his boxers and his tank top.
- 23:36Don't hate the player, baby. Hate the game. Right? Don't hate us because you ain't us.
- 23:41I would agree with Chase completely on that. Absolutely. But I would think if
- 23:46it's like a if it's a put on season to like kill some just to get rid of them because they're,
- 23:53killing the fish population or affecting the population of fish that there would
- 23:57be places for the DNR you could drop them off and basically donate them,
- 24:03for needy families or hungry or whatever there's certain places you can do that
- 24:08with I don't know I feel like if we did actually like are you okay?
- 24:16The thought of Tyler being like, I'm not going to share my notes,
- 24:20but if you want some of these camarades, you can eat those.
- 24:27I mean, that kind of brings up the point that I was going to say.
- 24:30I think that if we were actually going to, I wouldn't necessarily even say hunt
- 24:35them, but shoot them if we had the opportunity.
- 24:39I feel like our group especially is like, whatever we kill, we eat.
- 24:44So, I don't know if I am, like, willing to say that, like, no,
- 24:50we're not going to eat them, or we would never eat them, because we just,
- 24:53we don't throw away birds either, so...
- 24:57I personally would not eat them, but somebody would. I would give them to somebody
- 25:00that would eat them if I was not going to eat them, if I shot it.
- 25:02But, I mean, I would try it in the name of science. Yeah.
- 25:07I got to try the Brett Henderson experience.
- 25:10Maybe good, maybe really bad. We don't know. Sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit.
- 25:15Ooh. Jared said a 9 a.m. apology text incoming from Zach. I feel like 9 is even generous.
- 25:23Where have you been? Where have you been? Oh, did you guys already say that?
- 25:27Yeah. Before we talked about Chase's comment. Oh, my bad.
- 25:31But I will say, kind of touching back on Chase's comment, I agree,
- 25:35and I try to eat or use everything I kill, right?
- 25:40But part of that kind of makes me wonder with, like, trapping. You know, the kayaks.
- 25:46Like, yeah, I would say, you know, a lot of guys are skinning them out and getting
- 25:50the fur off them, so you're not, like, wasting everything, but you're not eating them.
- 25:54Right. You know, how many guys trap coons and actually skin them out or definitely don't eat them.
- 26:00I'm going to have to try it. You know, so like, it just kind of like Tyler said,
- 26:04if there's a need to less of them, I don't know if I would feel as bad about,
- 26:08if they were saying, hey, this is a damaging thing to the population or,
- 26:12or to other species of wildlife, we need to get rid of some.
- 26:16I get it but I'm not sure if I'd feel super terrible about dropping off at a
- 26:20DNR station and saying give this to the needy or whatever Tyler said.
- 26:25Here's all my comarants I killed. Yeah. Do I get a sticker for each one or every dozen?
- 26:33Uh...
- 26:36Brett is, that's racist. Yeah.
- 26:41But no, I mean, like, there's, and if you do, I don't know, like,
- 26:45we generally, we process all ours for the most part and turn into hot sticks,
- 26:49brats, whatever, and we are slacking on the hot sticks and stuff this year.
- 26:53Kate has still got a freezer load. But, yeah.
- 26:58God damn it.
- 27:02You guys need to lock it in. have you read the comment.
- 27:12I know Oh man With shit like that I'm gonna cross my screen,
- 27:20oh my god let's get it together here boys I don't even,
- 27:25know where I was going with that anymore yeah I don't we're giving the comments
- 27:30to the orphans eating the ducks ourselves,
- 27:35to anybody listening to this podcast if you would like to understand why we
- 27:41are laughing so hard right now you need to be on the live stream and watching
- 27:44the live stream checking out the comments,
- 27:47because we can't say all the comments on the podcast but,
- 27:54if you like some good humor there's plenty of it here all the time no we were
- 28:00talking about hot things and processing our ducks Oh, that's it.
- 28:04Yeah, with, obviously, you and I both, I mean, you do the hot six,
- 28:08right? But I was more than willing to help, but we were both moving kind of at the wrong time.
- 28:17So, yeah, we do the problem. We ended up taking it in our time.
- 28:28Alright. Enough.
- 28:36That'll be enough of that.
- 28:39My room's getting blurry from all the gayness.
- 28:49All right. We did end up taking all of our tucks to the meat locker this year. So we did get six made.
- 28:58Colton's got a great point here. We're going to have a commercial break.
- 29:01We'll be back soon. Let's hear a word from our sponsors.
- 29:05And we're back. And that's the word. All right. Wow.
- 29:11That was. I'm just going to go full screen so I can't even see any more of the
- 29:16comets. Yeah. Oh, shit. I'm sweating.
- 29:20That was some good stuff there. But since you're back, Trenton,
- 29:24and hopefully you're not getting distracted again, we did talk about Coot Wars.
- 29:28We need to have your input on it.
- 29:30Should it be a season-long thing with point system and you get points for killing
- 29:3450, 100, 150, whatever, or banned.
- 29:37But we got people interested in this. We need your input.
- 29:42The meat locker was not talking about Trenton's wife. I was talking about the place in Milo.
- 29:48It just processes meat, not holds it.
- 29:51But yes, we do need to discuss more details on food wars. As far as meat processing,
- 29:57I'm trying to get us back on track, and this is so hard.
- 29:59Okay, so meat processing, we normally get hot sticks, brats, hot stuff.
- 30:03Usually we eat all of them. We're pretty good at it. Or if we get to where we,
- 30:08have a bunch, that breakfast sausage is killer.
- 30:11Yeah, it's the best, in my opinion.
- 30:13But if we get to a point where we're getting close to season and we usually
- 30:17have a bunch, usually we'll find people that need it or like we'll give it to
- 30:21a family in need that could use the food stuff like that like it doesn't go
- 30:25to waste doesn't just go in the dumpster,
- 30:28that's just the right thing to do,
- 30:31Well, I think we all feel the same way and pretty strongly about that.
- 30:34Don't kill it if you're not going to use it.
- 30:40Just stop leaving them. I am. I'm going to quit. Little Smokies made out of
- 30:45ducks, though? That might not be that bad.
- 30:50That actually would probably be pretty good. Like in a crock pot.
- 30:53Yeah. I don't think that's some barbecue sauce, a little sweet heat, baby rays.
- 30:58Yeah. I'll tell you what. But circling back to like our goose hunt Saturday,
- 31:04that was a pretty good time and pretty funny. I wish you guys were out of the
- 31:07boat like Cade and I were to watch that goose try and escape from Ellie that was crippled.
- 31:13And like I thought I had it dead and she went out after it and then all of a
- 31:18sudden just took off swimming.
- 31:20And it disappears in the willows and then Ellie gets in the willows,
- 31:24disappears, and all you hear is a goose honking.
- 31:27And then I hear it getting closer again And then the goose pops out of the willows,
- 31:30and here comes that black dog right on its tail.
- 31:33And then when she brought it to me, Ellie had a hold of the goose by its chest,
- 31:39and the goose had a hold of Ellie by the back of her head.
- 31:42So I don't know who retrieved who, but I got the goose.
- 31:45I'll say the goose ended up in the boat, which, by the way, a hell of a catch by Pookie.
- 31:52First team, all hands. You were no hands. That was straight. Bricks.
- 31:58You would have thought homie was allergic to geese the way he slapped that goose away from him.
- 32:08No thanks. Don't want it. Ellie got a whole workout. Got the goose. Yep.
- 32:14She had a great time. She was wound up. So I'm looking forward to this weekend.
- 32:18Hopefully she gets a good workout in and chills the fuck out.
- 32:23Yeah. I mean, after that, we had a four pack.
- 32:26Think about it and I was like oh this might get dirty and then it was all teal,
- 32:32and wood ducks and a couple pennies,
- 32:35We didn't see many mallards, and I did see some youth had some luck killing mallards, so...
- 32:43That kind of surprised me seeing a decent amount of mallards being shot for
- 32:46this time of year, I will say. I've seen more mallards being killed than I feel like normal.
- 32:52Yeah, I think, and I've seen a couple pictures I don't know if you guys follow,
- 32:56it's more for me being nosy, right?
- 32:57But the photographs or whatever, the wildlife images of Iowa or whatever,
- 33:02there's guys that take pictures with their phone and post them and just seen
- 33:06one yesterday that was posted of a obviously a flooded cornfield, which is weird, right?
- 33:10But full of geese and greenheads. I was like, oh, why can't that be here?
- 33:16Get some of these greenheads down here. Yeah, it's coming. It's coming.
- 33:21I'll be really curious to see how this season looks with another decline in numbers.
- 33:28So, like, we didn't see a major decline from last year, so I expect it to be,
- 33:33pretty similar looking if the weather's the same. You know what I mean? Or close.
- 33:38But I'd be curious to what everybody else sees as we have another down year in numbers.
- 33:44We originally thought there for a bit that we were going to have a good year.
- 33:49Didn't get so lucky. Not exactly a terrible year for numbers because it didn't get much worse.
- 33:55But it really can't get a lot worse because then we just won't have a season
- 33:59if it gets too much worse.
- 34:02Yeah. Yeah, I mean, numbers could have been better, but I expected better, honestly. I didn't too.
- 34:09The birds we kind of saw and I thought they were going to be higher numbers, but they weren't.
- 34:15Well, and just with like the amount of moisture we had this spring in the Dakotas,
- 34:19I feel like in Canada, like I feel like they had a wet enough year.
- 34:24But then when I went up there and worked, what was that? First week of September or so.
- 34:29And it was way drier than I thought.
- 34:33So I guess I just maybe didn't pay attention to the weather close enough,
- 34:36but I thought it was a lot more wet up there than what it looked like.
- 34:43I don't know I mean I am curious I'm really curious to see,
- 34:47with the forecast extended forecast just kind of trickling in hopefully it stays
- 34:51that way and we just kind of trickle some birds but I'm curious to see if we
- 34:55we see more birds this year than we did last year or similar or not,
- 34:59right I'm really hoping really hoping we get a big snowstorm like we did I don't know,
- 35:05seven years ago now probably six or seven years ago right at the end of October
- 35:10and we just get a bunch of ducks and we hold them for like a month because the
- 35:14weather doesn't it just stays stagnant then for a bit,
- 35:17that would be nice that would be sick but we're supposed to get a lot of snow
- 35:21this year supposed to yep yep supposed to be a hard winter,
- 35:27i remember last year we went on a hunt that started snowing on us and the whole
- 35:32i mean the truck ride the night before the truck ride the boat ride the setting up decoys,
- 35:39the bullshitting before light all i heard was how great today's gonna be because
- 35:42it's just start snowing on us and we shot two birds all day.
- 35:50Like, are you FF rough or like just rough?
- 35:54In this text, probably just rough. Okay. Yeah. No, that makes sense. Yeah.
- 36:00Hmm. At least we run out of propane that day. Yeah, we don't have propane still.
- 36:05We do. We are still out of propane in the boat from last time we went hunting last year.
- 36:12That rain day was a cold day. That was miserable. Yeah. Okay.
- 36:16Okay, so speaking of that, our last time hunting in the boat last year, it rained.
- 36:22Nobody had any rain gear except for Fuki and I.
- 36:27Did Zachary buy a raincoat for hunting between now and then?
- 36:32There's a certain person in this chat that I'm going to look at in the camera
- 36:35and go, because he was supposed to get some for me, but it should be ordered.
- 36:42Okay, so no, did not get it yet.
- 36:45I haven't received it, but I'm hoping I receive it within the next week.
- 36:49Are you planning on hunting on the ride? Some point this year.
- 36:54I mean, if we have to. I just would rather not wait until it is raining to be
- 36:58like, hmm, I really wish that would have came in.
- 37:01Did Cade get one? I know he bought a raincoat for work, but did he buy a hunting
- 37:06coat that is waterproof?
- 37:10It? It's ordered. Yeah, I see it. It's ordered. That means Zach might be dry this year.
- 37:18He rips it on day one. Why not? Be guaranteed that'd be my luck.
- 37:23I'll push it up against the heater.
- 37:25Oh, man. Dude, the amount of people I've seen burn their bibs or waders on a heater is insane.
- 37:32I'm pretty sure, back to date, I'm pretty sure he ordered a new jacket because
- 37:35he had to get one for work. Yeah, but that was a...
- 37:39I could have sworn he just bought a black Carhartt raincoat.
- 37:42Maybe he did. Maybe he'll wear that. Who knows? Maybe. I don't know.
- 37:48I mean, I don't know if he gets any, like, work. Like, you know.
- 37:52Won't rip. We'll forget. Probably. Good chance. Fair chance.
- 37:56I'm going to be like, I'm going to sit up and be like, my app said it wasn't
- 37:59supposed to rain. Damn it.
- 38:00He's got to show up first to forget it.
- 38:04Here we go. So, get the, I'm going to have the counter ready.
- 38:09For Sunday. Can't wait to check it off the list.
- 38:12It's unfortunate, because if I check it off this early, then I'm immediately lost.
- 38:18I do want to bring up one thing. I just got a text from Trenton reminding me,
- 38:22because I had it wrote down to bring this up.
- 38:25Do any of you know CNS calls or heard of CNS calls?
- 38:30Fun fact, the call I got you for Christmas is a CNS call.
- 38:35Yeah, so the main guy for that, Matt Rustad, was in a bad side-by-side accident,
- 38:42UTV accident, and he is in bad shape in the hospital. Really? Damn.
- 38:49So he's needs all the help he can get,
- 38:52and it's a lot of the waterfowl communities you know doing what they can for
- 38:56him and reaching out but definitely keep him in your thoughts as he's trying
- 39:00to recover trying to get through it i don't i think i don't know if,
- 39:04well i haven't seen an update lately to see what the newest is on a status,
- 39:10but it's not good this weekend.
- 39:13Uh it was this past weekend i'm trying to think i think it was this past weekend,
- 39:19was he i mean not that it necessarily matters but was he out riding around like
- 39:23riding side by sides or was he hunting and had a had an accident i don't know,
- 39:29do not know any of the answers for that i'm just kind of looking on his facebook
- 39:33page right now yeah trenton said
- 39:35saturday night yeah there's There's not a lot of info on it, but yeah.
- 39:40That's unfortunate. Give me your thoughts. He's one of us, avid waterfowl hunter.
- 39:46Got the call company and everything like that.
- 39:49But it can happen to anybody. I'll be thinking of him, yeah.
- 39:55There's definitely times that I should have been, so.
- 39:58Catches up with everybody at some point. For sure.
- 40:02Yeah, it looks like I've seen a picture from his mom, I believe.
- 40:05Looks like he's on a ventilator and all kinds of stuff so man fam.
- 40:13Just one thing to keep in mind. Not even just side-by-side accidents,
- 40:16but to everybody going out to Central Zone Duck opener here,
- 40:20just be mindful of your equipment and be mindful of the people around you when
- 40:24it comes to safeties on the guns.
- 40:26For me, a big one is not taking a safety off as you're...
- 40:30When you're working birds and you think they're going to come in,
- 40:34people will pop them off and that kind of drives me nuts at times because if
- 40:36your gun falls over or you lose grip on it, you never know what could happen.
- 40:41Yep. Oh, there you go.
- 40:43I'll put that across oh yeah CNS is doing a raffle Trenton says for $20 an entry
- 40:51it's for a Tim Grounds call all info is on their page,
- 40:55and someone someone won 10k someone won what,
- 41:0010k donated to donated the winner won and ran it back oh okay so someone won
- 41:0610k donated the winner won and ran it back so it's still going on yep,
- 41:12yeah there you go cns calls page love it.
- 41:18Go give it a check out. If it's still going, get your $20 entered for a chance to win a call.
- 41:25It's obviously going to a good cause. Help him with medical bills and the family and everything.
- 41:30Because that shit adds up. But yeah.
- 41:36I guess the enclosed trailer this weekend, we got all wired up.
- 41:41To kind of move us into our closing talking points here or closing this up.
- 41:47But we posted a reel right before we went live here about six o'clock go give
- 41:51that a like and go check it out and we appreciate you guys sharing and liking
- 41:58that stuff it goes a long ways to getting it out there,
- 42:02but go check it out like we we've done some major changes to the trailer this
- 42:05year stuff we've been wanting to do we have a lot more to go,
- 42:09it's just time is never on our side just like anybody,
- 42:13it takes a long time what we we were out there pretty much well i was up there
- 42:18all day sunday but you were out there pretty much all day sunday too i don't
- 42:22think i left until like after seven o'clock or pretty close to around seven o'clock,
- 42:27i was did the game get over yeah did the rams eagles finish when you left or
- 42:32was it raiders and chiefs raiders and chief yeah yeah that game was over after yeah,
- 42:37it had to be pretty close to seven then like 6 45 maybe at the earliest.
- 42:42But that was a lot of work, a lot of wiring. I don't care to do any more wiring
- 42:47for a minute. Yeah, no kidding.
- 42:50So many zip ties pulling so much wire through.
- 42:53And I do want to say we appreciate Zach for his help yet Sunday.
- 42:57He rattle canned like one locker, I think, and then he had beat himself and had to leave. Oh, two.
- 43:04Two. One and a half. Remember, I didn't do that one side.
- 43:08It ain't much, but it's honest work. The lockers are, I mean,
- 43:12short of touching up the inside of them, really.
- 43:16If we decide that we're going to do that, get a top plate made for them,
- 43:21bolt them together, and throw them in the trailer, they're ready to go.
- 43:25Oh, they're in the trailer.
- 43:26Yeah, just not bolted together with no top plate or anything on them.
- 43:30I figured if I had to move them, because after you left, I'm like,
- 43:34shit, I should have got his help moving these back in the shop. Yeah.
- 43:37But I went ahead and threw them in the trailer just to put them away and not
- 43:41to where they're going to get knocked all around and beat up or whatever. Right.
- 43:45Yeah, we just got to build. I got to build a little top ceiling for the lockers
- 43:50because they didn't have any top on them and then put a piece of angle around
- 43:53the whole top to have more storage above the lockers.
- 43:56Those things are ready to rip. Yeah. I think we should paint the inside pink.
- 44:02Black outside, pink inside.
- 44:04Make it brighter in there when you turn the light on. I'm going to paint the
- 44:08inside of mine pink. Number 69.
- 44:11You don't get one. You took the sticker. You took the 69 off.
- 44:13It's in the back of the side by side. I threw it away. No, you didn't.
- 44:17You even know it was there.
- 44:18I did, actually. I seen it when I was cleaning tools up.
- 44:22You better not throw my plaque away, damn it. What? My little number plaque.
- 44:27Oh, it's gone. Oh, well. That let it graphics come in a clutch with the new 69 vinyl kit.
- 44:35I'm kidding. It's still in there. Jeez. They really did turn out really well, though.
- 44:39I was genuinely surprised, like, just what a little sweat equity did to them.
- 44:45I mean, Zach and I put quite a few rivets in, sanded a bunch,
- 44:51cleaned them up. Cut legs off.
- 44:54Yeah. We both got soaked power washing lockers.
- 44:59Yeah, because that's been your guys' project on this, like, just solely you
- 45:01guys. I'll help finish the top on them and get them bolted in the trailer,
- 45:07but you guys have done all the legwork of going and getting lockers and painting
- 45:10them and restoring them.
- 45:12Yeah, from what they started at, and we do have some pictures of that process,
- 45:19so maybe we'll add that to the page at some point.
- 45:22Once we actually get them all finished up and bolted in and everything,
- 45:26we'll put a whole montage of how the trailer was before. We actually did a pretty
- 45:30good job this time of taking pictures before, during, and after too so that
- 45:35everybody could kind of follow along with it.
- 45:38Way better than I thought at taking some pictures. I got pictures of the trailer
- 45:44where we polished and you were wiping on it and then not polished panels in
- 45:47it where it shows a difference and,
- 45:49it'll be kind of cool to share all those out, maybe in a two or three or four
- 45:53part series of posting three or four photos at a time.
- 45:59Very rewarding to even be at this point. I know we still obviously have,
- 46:03I mean, not a ton of work, but a decent amount of work that we still would like
- 46:08to do with the trailer but we're in a much better spot with the trailer and
- 46:13i think it'll be much more,
- 46:15effective and efficient to hunt out of this year so pretty rewarding very glad
- 46:21that we were able to grind out a lot of that work,
- 46:24i would definitely agree with you on that like i mean we do still have a lot of work but like,
- 46:29the bulk majority of like the tedious hard work is over like the rest of it
- 46:35like when we get the solar panel kit and the inverter and stuff like that's
- 46:38going to be a little bit but i don't think it's gonna be near as much as like
- 46:41wiring all them interior lights and,
- 46:44light bars and switch panel and trying to make it look good and building shelves like,
- 46:48that was a task yeah no it was,
- 46:51yeah a lot a lot of very tedious work and yeah running wire and playing electrician
- 46:57for the weekend none none of us do so So hopefully the trailer doesn't burn
- 47:02itself down in the middle of a field the first time.
- 47:05Well, we're going to be a bitch.
- 47:07We'll be all right. It's...
- 47:10We could have wired it way faster and you can do that stuff a lot quicker,
- 47:13but the quality is not going to be there. Then you're going to have problems,
- 47:16you know, two, maybe three hunts in, or even on your first.
- 47:21And I'd rather take a little extra time and get it done right the first time,
- 47:25hopefully, and not have as many problems down the road. Like you're going to
- 47:29have stuff go wrong and problems eventually, but yeah, no, for sure.
- 47:34I would definitely say the way that we wired it is like, was very well thought through that
- 47:41if we do end up having some issue with some of the wire like we did make it
- 47:46available enough that like we're not gonna have to completely tear shit apart to fix it,
- 47:51but like everything's hit enough that like you don't just go walk through and
- 47:55like hit wires or really even see them unless you're paying attention to it right yeah.
- 48:02So, that's exciting stuff. I think that, I mean, I got a little bit to add after
- 48:09somebody does our closing statement here, our walkout for getting on this podcast.
