- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, what the hell is this?
- 0:02Speaker 2: It's a bowl of shawdow Sir, Wait.
- 0:04Speaker 1: A minute, come here, what did you call it? Jad
- 0:06Speaker 1: loud enough so everyone can hear. Come on, shay yed
- 0:11Speaker 1: showdow ha ha, show dear, show dear.
- 0:18Speaker 3: It's chowder. Say it right, shout dow ah. Come back here.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I'm not through to meaning you four finger discount dude.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Welcome to four figure. This game the podcast where we
- 0:43Speaker 2: always mispronounced chowder. I'm Dando and I'm guy. Did you
- 0:48Speaker 2: feel like so, how do you How would you say
- 0:50Speaker 2: chot it? Would it be chatter or chatter? Because personally,
- 0:52Speaker 2: I feel because of this episode, everyone just now says
- 0:55Speaker 2: showder by default, I actually go shoud it it comes. Yes.
- 1:02Speaker 2: It's funny when they're.
- 1:04Speaker 4: In the corporal Well, it's funny throughout the whole episode,
- 1:06Speaker 4: but it's funny in the quarter when people just pronounce
- 1:07Speaker 4: it chowder an else. That's like, we're not putting your
- 1:11Speaker 4: weird Boston brahm and pronunciation and all this, you know,
- 1:14Speaker 4: lovely little dijon mustard French version.
- 1:16Speaker 2: So it's chowder, yes, chowder man chowder? That yeah?
- 1:20Speaker 4: I mean, if we did our deep dive into actually
- 1:23Speaker 4: origins of chowder. I mean it's probably a New England
- 1:25Speaker 4: the kind of dish that's probably got that chowder.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Chowder is a type of thick soup prepared with milk
- 1:30Speaker 2: or cream and seafood or vegetables. Oyster, crackers or saltines
- 1:35Speaker 2: may accompany chowder as a side item, and cracker pieces
- 1:38Speaker 2: may be dropped atop the dish.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Indeed, corn chowder. I mean, I wouldn't have clam chowder
- 1:42Speaker 4: just it sounds unappealing.
- 1:43Speaker 2: It does, Yeah, any of the way clam at the start,
- 1:45Speaker 2: not really, Yeah, I don't there wasn't sure I've ever
- 1:50Speaker 2: eaten the clam. I don't think I have either, just muscles.
- 1:52Speaker 2: I done of eat muscles, oysters, none of it. Yeah,
- 1:54Speaker 2: but if there was a band called the Clam, would
- 1:56Speaker 2: you go to would you pay money to go see
- 1:57Speaker 2: the clam?
- 2:00Speaker 4: First of all, said it sound like the clan and
- 2:02Speaker 4: like no anymore.
- 2:06Speaker 2: The clam. It's not the best word, no clam clam No,
- 2:10Speaker 2: but this clam bake though, that's a fun word, clam bake,
- 2:13Speaker 2: clan gate the clams. There's a horror Okay, we're gonna
- 2:24Speaker 2: make a trouse of horricord silence of the Clams bring back.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Yeah, yes, Simpsons, we've done it again. But do I
- 2:35Speaker 4: pronounce it chowder? I don't necessarily eat chowder, but one
- 2:39Speaker 4: of the main reasons I enjoyed this episode was the
- 2:41Speaker 4: various pronunciations of chowder.
- 2:43Speaker 2: By the way, thank you for everybody who has supported us.
- 2:45Speaker 2: I'm patreonic this month. You will get your shatter at
- 2:47Speaker 2: the end of the month on our mail bag until
- 2:49Speaker 2: about top TIS supporters are going to be in your
- 2:51Speaker 2: shout out in a few moments. But in this episode
- 2:53Speaker 2: here you're just touching on the chowder. So many memorable
- 2:56Speaker 2: moments in this episode. We've got there. The chotter it's
- 2:58Speaker 2: the children who are wrong is in this one as well. Well,
- 3:00Speaker 2: Yam yam, yam, yamao me garnigle. The list goes on.
- 3:03Speaker 2: But in saying that a pretty grouded episode for the
- 3:05Speaker 2: golden year of the Simpsons, I feel like half the
- 3:07Speaker 2: episode is just in the court room.
- 3:09Speaker 4: Oh very much so yeah, yeah, And I remembered that
- 3:12Speaker 4: I was very much into Chaudou and that was a
- 3:16Speaker 4: combination combination of too wasn't it, And also the stuff
- 3:19Speaker 4: in the court room, particularly with the glasses and mayomamiamio, miamiamiamo.
- 3:23Speaker 4: But I honestly had forgotten that this was the birth
- 3:26Speaker 4: of am I so out of touch. No, it's the
- 3:28Speaker 4: children who are It is the children who are rung
- 3:30Speaker 4: one of the greatest memes that The Simpsons has ever produced.
- 3:32Speaker 4: As well, I'm concerned.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I don't think they would have realized that at the time.
- 3:36Speaker 2: You know, there's all these iconic lines that are just
- 3:39Speaker 2: lines in the episode, right, they're good jokes. Oh yeah,
- 3:41Speaker 2: but who would have imagined that twenty five thirty years
- 3:43Speaker 2: on they would have such a lasting impact. Oh yeah,
- 3:46Speaker 2: for a whole different reason. Yeah, and I'd forgotten that
- 3:48Speaker 2: McGonagall was in this as well. I mean, I know
- 3:50Speaker 2: he's a bit of a semi semi regular fixture, but
- 3:53Speaker 2: I forgot this is the Billy one really is dead,
- 3:56Speaker 2: my lunch, the Free Willy as well.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Yeah, also forgotten that McGonagall looked so much like sort
- 4:03Speaker 4: of Sudden Impact era Clint Eastwood, Dirty Harry.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Yeah. I thought it was like, oh, he's just a
- 4:09Speaker 2: generic cop. It's like, oh, no, you're really going for this.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I love how they really.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Sort of steer into the rainier Wolf Castle Arnold Schwartz
- 4:16Speaker 4: and ear connection as well. We'll get to that when
- 4:18Speaker 4: we get to that. Yeah, but yeah, so much great
- 4:21Speaker 4: stuff in this episode. But you're right, very very uh
- 4:23Speaker 4: yeah grounded. So yeah, second enough, it's just the courtroom drama.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Well, it feels like two episodes in one. The first
- 4:28Speaker 2: it's almost like you're watching Jaws. You watch Jaws, and
- 4:30Speaker 2: you've got before they go out in the ocean and
- 4:32Speaker 2: after they got to the AA. This is very similar
- 4:34Speaker 2: before the court case and after the case because the
- 4:36Speaker 2: Freddy Quimby Chowder moment happens. But like between the eighth
- 4:39Speaker 2: and ten minute mark, it's so far into the do
- 4:41Speaker 2: you think that the episode Bart gets away from school
- 4:44Speaker 2: and you know you gets to the Quimby party blah
- 4:45Speaker 2: blah blah. That's the first five ten minutes. No, it's
- 4:48Speaker 2: a long way into the episode, like half way through.
- 4:50Speaker 4: Oh yeah, there's a whole lot of stage setting, yea
- 4:52Speaker 4: with yeah, the schools out of painting it as just
- 4:56Speaker 4: the place you don't want to be. I mean, Bart
- 4:57Speaker 4: doesn't want to be there at the best of times,
- 5:00Speaker 4: but the way it's been set up and prison bus
- 5:03Speaker 4: and every new chairs prison bus tampering with the clock
- 5:07Speaker 4: that goes all awry and they stay in school for
- 5:09Speaker 4: the nextra two hours or something like that. Surprisingly, missus
- 5:12Speaker 4: Kay is fine with it. I mean you should be annoyed.
- 5:15Speaker 4: Maybe she's maybe he's collecting a little overtime. I don't know,
- 5:17Speaker 4: but she was kind of like ha ha, well not
- 5:20Speaker 4: quite Nelson Ah, but she thought was not as bad
- 5:23Speaker 4: as you might expect. So yeah, I mean they do
- 5:26Speaker 4: spend a bit of time in school and setting up
- 5:28Speaker 4: bart situation, making it clear that he wants out.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Yeah, but you're right.
- 5:32Speaker 4: I mean I love that first spotting of of Fredie
- 5:35Speaker 4: Quimilo through the school window. I think I got all
- 5:38Speaker 4: this out of dropping out of the fourth grade.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I love this surrounded by rainbows and sunshine eating and squirrels. Well, actually,
- 5:46Speaker 2: no Bar looks out the window and he sees all
- 5:48Speaker 2: this thing, and you've got the music play. It's actually
- 5:50Speaker 2: one of my favorite moments. I'll just say it now.
- 5:51Speaker 2: It's the morning mood Edward Grieg's sweet novel. It's the
- 5:59Speaker 2: the nice music. So there's that. And then when Freddy
- 6:01Speaker 2: Quimby arrives, is animal Scatter just an absolute chaos agent
- 6:07Speaker 2: that man. Yeah, I actually feel sorry for barton this
- 6:09Speaker 2: episode because he didn't I know, he broke the rules
- 6:12Speaker 2: in his skip score, so it's his own fault to
- 6:14Speaker 2: an extent. But he didn't ask to be involved in
- 6:15Speaker 2: all this shit. Oh no, and all the weight falls
- 6:18Speaker 2: on his shoulders, and Lisa's just there being that little
- 6:20Speaker 2: angel in his head going do the right thing? Yeah, yeah,
- 6:23Speaker 2: why should I exactly? I mean, why should I go
- 6:26Speaker 2: to bat the Yeah, a dreadful human being, like like
- 6:29Speaker 2: Freddy Qimby the thing is but here's the problem, though,
- 6:32Speaker 2: A dreadful human being, but he didn't do anything wrong here, yes,
- 6:35Speaker 2: and nonetheless an innocent man.
- 6:37Speaker 4: Yes, the system should work regardless of whether or not
- 6:40Speaker 4: you know, you're a awful, awful specimen.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Yeah, That's why I found it interesting that Lisa was
- 6:46Speaker 2: sort of judgmental and annoyed that they were trying to
- 6:49Speaker 2: buy his freedom because, in my mind, gone because she
- 6:52Speaker 2: knows he's innocent, but really she doesn't know he's innocent,
- 6:55Speaker 2: but it's just said, and he won't tell her how
- 6:57Speaker 2: he knows, so she could still be you know, on
- 7:00Speaker 2: f it's going, what's what's going on here? Is he
- 7:02Speaker 2: really innocent or not? Well?
- 7:04Speaker 4: Yeah, she's got a very sort of strong moral backbone.
- 7:07Speaker 4: So yeah, for her to be for her to be witnessing. Oh,
- 7:10Speaker 4: they're trying to play the system, and definitely rich people
- 7:12Speaker 4: are trying to play the system as they have, you know,
- 7:14Speaker 4: for goodness knows how long. Yeah, it's gonna, of course
- 7:17Speaker 4: rub up against her right on stance that she tends
- 7:20Speaker 4: to have. I'm not name and name, but yeah, I.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Just think I felt so for Bart because he's just
- 7:32Speaker 2: stuck in his crappy situation that he was just skipping
- 7:34Speaker 2: school and all this is just blowing up in his face.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Oh yeah, amazing how he ended up in the back
- 7:40Speaker 2: of Pretty Quimby's come. I mean, I'm wondering if that's
- 7:43Speaker 2: just as the action sequence I was picking knits though,
- 7:46Speaker 2: means like, wow, he must have been pretty acrobatic and
- 7:49Speaker 2: moving pretty quickly. Do we end up in the back
- 7:50Speaker 2: of that convertible. It's want of pick nets. You can
- 7:52Speaker 2: say Skinner went into the water, came out, and he
- 7:53Speaker 2: wasn't wet. That's true.
- 7:55Speaker 4: But yeah, I will forgive anything for a good Terminator ship.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Yeah, there's some great shots there. Now, I also feel
- 8:02Speaker 2: sorry for Skinner. Speaking of Skinner, because he knows Bart
- 8:04Speaker 2: skip school. He just can't prove it, and it just
- 8:07Speaker 2: plays on him and it just it's it's eating him alive.
- 8:10Speaker 2: And at the end when he finally gets Bart comes
- 8:13Speaker 2: clean and he goes, I knew it. I'm going to
- 8:15Speaker 2: get you. I need you a slip up, And he
- 8:17Speaker 2: doesn't slip up. He confessed, is like I need this.
- 8:21Speaker 2: That's where he is in life right now, where this
- 8:23Speaker 2: is such an important thing to him and he can't
- 8:26Speaker 2: he can't sort of focus on anything else like that.
- 8:28Speaker 2: This has consumed his life.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Oh yeah, you get absolutely fixated on what's a great
- 8:32Speaker 4: line in heat. It's like, I am who I'm chasing,
- 8:35Speaker 4: and that's sing. He becomes obsessed with the hunt.
- 8:37Speaker 2: Because at the end of the day, Bart skip school.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Who cares. It's not a big deal, right, But to
- 8:41Speaker 2: Skinner it's everything. Oh well, I think Skinner views it
- 8:44Speaker 2: as a personal hunt. Yeah, a personal slight. Yeah. You know,
- 8:47Speaker 2: you're rubbing my lack of authority over you in my face.
- 8:51Speaker 2: You know, I'm trying to do the right thing here.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I'm trying to teach you, I'm trying to steer you
- 8:55Speaker 2: in the right direction for life, and here you are
- 8:57Speaker 2: just taking a day off. But what I'm thinking of
- 9:01Speaker 2: this episode here, they could have gone a different route
- 9:04Speaker 2: with it, right, They could have had Bart. What's your thoughts, Bart,
- 9:10Speaker 2: using his knowledge chose advantage for a payday from the
- 9:14Speaker 2: Quimbi's or something on the guards where Home is like,
- 9:16Speaker 2: if you know this, let's get money out of it.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Do you think that would have been too horrible from
- 9:20Speaker 2: Bart side of things? I think so. I think just
- 9:22Speaker 2: the Yeah, again, the money would have to go to
- 9:25Speaker 2: charity in the end or something something either, if it
- 9:28Speaker 2: even happened. Yeah, yeah, like quimbies would.
- 9:30Speaker 4: Find a way to weasel out of it one way
- 9:31Speaker 4: or another. But I think having the moral dilemma of
- 9:35Speaker 4: like I need to do the right thing because you know,
- 9:38Speaker 4: I witnessed a crime that didn't actually occur, or an
- 9:41Speaker 4: innocent man is being horrible, yeah, being accused of something
- 9:45Speaker 4: he didn't commit. I'm the only person who knows the truth.
- 9:49Speaker 4: But if I reveal the truth, well then I'm in big,
- 9:51Speaker 4: big trouble, as Bart like sac So, yeah, I think
- 9:55Speaker 4: that would be enough. I think adding him trying to
- 9:57Speaker 4: negotiate a payday or a payoff or whatever.
- 10:00Speaker 2: It's pretty slime bag. It's a bit slime back, and
- 10:03Speaker 2: it's also just one more layer on the lasagna that
- 10:06Speaker 2: we don't need. Yeah, that's good, it is, indeed. But
- 10:09Speaker 2: speaking of Freddy, I think it's a great bit of
- 10:12Speaker 2: riding here that Freddy he was off. He was innocent
- 10:15Speaker 2: in the in the eyes of everybody, right, he was
- 10:16Speaker 2: going to get off. He'd paid off bo you know,
- 10:18Speaker 2: the money bags. It's always grown to put the dollar
- 10:20Speaker 2: symbol and just to make sure I love it. But
- 10:22Speaker 2: the jury thought he was innocent. Everyone thought he was innocent.
- 10:24Speaker 2: But the smugness of him, he had to get up
- 10:27Speaker 2: on that stand himself and just to say, it's the
- 10:29Speaker 2: turnaround in the post of the credit. Look at me.
- 10:31Speaker 2: He couldn't help himself and he screws it all up
- 10:34Speaker 2: and favorite moment, Wow, I didn't go well, he's just
- 10:39Speaker 2: got yeah, this entitledment built into himself and he he
- 10:42Speaker 2: just and everyone just turns on him immediately, as they
- 10:44Speaker 2: as they should, because if he says I'm gonna kill you,
- 10:46Speaker 2: especially Jewy. Wow, that did not go well. But do
- 10:50Speaker 2: you think he in in cannon? Right? This is obviously
- 10:54Speaker 2: just we're making this up. Would you prefer to think
- 10:56Speaker 2: that the lawyer tried to talk him out of this,
- 10:58Speaker 2: and Quibi's like, no, no, I want to get up there,
- 11:00Speaker 2: improve my prove my innocence. Or the lawyer was like,
- 11:02Speaker 2: let's just this is like the final nail in the
- 11:04Speaker 2: coffin for the for the other guys. Yeah, it's interesting,
- 11:07Speaker 2: but the lawyer is smart enough to go, you stay here,
- 11:10Speaker 2: stay off the stand. We've got this. And Freddie's like, no, no,
- 11:14Speaker 2: I think if you.
- 11:15Speaker 4: Watch enough say law and Order or any sort of
- 11:19Speaker 4: dramatization of it, of a true crime story, say like yeah,
- 11:22Speaker 4: the one about the Menendez brothers. Recently, it was on
- 11:24Speaker 4: Netflix and was a big, big hit from when I
- 11:27Speaker 4: recall you're watching that. The Menindas brothers will just put
- 11:31Speaker 4: us on the stand. You know, people believe us, they'll
- 11:33Speaker 4: trust us. You know, we're charismatic, young handsome dudes who
- 11:36Speaker 4: wouldn't want to be us and who wouldn't want to
- 11:38Speaker 4: do the right thing by us. And the lawyers are
- 11:40Speaker 4: very much like, no, don't you realize everybody thinks you suck?
- 11:46Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 11:47Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, so yeah, imagine Freddy's got that similar mindset
- 11:50Speaker 4: of like i' Freddie Quinn.
- 11:50Speaker 2: There, that's it. That's not even close. I was almost clancy. Yeah,
- 11:57Speaker 2: I'm not even gonna try. I've just accept my accents
- 12:00Speaker 2: to that have the castle in that. I'm no dense,
- 12:04Speaker 2: So yeah, I won't. I won't give it a world.
- 12:06Speaker 2: But I'm Freddie Quimby. My word is gold, yeah, and
- 12:10Speaker 2: my presence is platinum. You know, it's like I'm the man.
- 12:13Speaker 2: It was of like Redman's Grief from South Park, going
- 12:16Speaker 2: down to South Park where you've got the guys who
- 12:20Speaker 2: have lost all their money and they need to need
- 12:21Speaker 2: to buy the town back. So all the town goes
- 12:22Speaker 2: and they gamble and they win and they're like, let's
- 12:24Speaker 2: double it down. No, no, what are they doing? So yeah,
- 12:32Speaker 2: if you have the opportunity to get away with something here,
- 12:34Speaker 2: don't press your luck. Wisest lessons you can learn if
- 12:39Speaker 2: you've won, take the victory, take take the w But yeah,
- 12:46Speaker 2: but as I saying, like, that's in particular CRUs that
- 12:48Speaker 2: Freddy Quimby he is innocent, but he is a terrible
- 12:51Speaker 2: human being, right, he's not a good person. But it
- 12:53Speaker 2: is very important that he got off because he was innocent.
- 12:57Speaker 2: He couldn't have this horrible guy against at the prison
- 13:00Speaker 2: because he's a bad guy. Now he was innocent and
- 13:01Speaker 2: he got off. That's right. I mean he looked.
- 13:03Speaker 4: He may well have skeletons in his closet, but yeah,
- 13:06Speaker 4: in this particular instance, innocent, innocent of all charge.
- 13:09Speaker 2: It's like when you see people you just don't like
- 13:11Speaker 2: and they have they have w's, and just like it
- 13:14Speaker 2: makes you so jealous, like why why am I getting
- 13:17Speaker 2: now and you're getting w's. You're a bad person? Is
- 13:21Speaker 2: it because you're a bad person? Do I need to
- 13:23Speaker 2: be a bad person? Do I need to sort of realign? Last? Right?
- 13:28Speaker 2: How unfortunate, but we still finish. But as horrible as
- 13:32Speaker 2: Freddie is, Freddy Quimby is not the heel, not the
- 13:35Speaker 2: bad guy, the villain of this episode. It's the waiter.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Because the waiter knows that he just slipped over and
- 13:41Speaker 2: hurt himself and he's just trying to get that slign
- 13:44Speaker 2: bag payday. Well, that's true.
- 13:45Speaker 4: Also, he's he's a French person, French person, French people
- 13:49Speaker 4: have pride. I'm not some clumsy cruzo esquater. He doesn't
- 13:54Speaker 4: want to reveal that. Yeah, he was just an absolute
- 13:57Speaker 4: stumble bum.
- 13:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess that's true. You've just paid it all
- 14:00Speaker 2: French people as people who were just trying to get
- 14:03Speaker 2: a payne. Well aren't they of course they're not. No, no, no,
- 14:09Speaker 2: I've got a lot of time for the French. They
- 14:12Speaker 2: mainly because they quimbierres. They just don't give an f
- 14:16Speaker 2: Of course we had their best. Why would you think otherwise.
- 14:19Speaker 2: I nearly got in trouble at the border from everywhere.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Go get to the border, right, Nichola. This is why
- 14:26Speaker 2: you watch border security, so you learn the tricks. Well,
- 14:28Speaker 2: now that we watched border security, I'm looking at it
- 14:30Speaker 2: going now I can understand why they were going. This
- 14:32Speaker 2: guy here because technically, Nicola and I we caught the train,
- 14:37Speaker 2: the super train whatever it is, the chunnel, yeah, whatever's
- 14:40Speaker 2: and we flew back, right, we caught the train to Paris,
- 14:45Speaker 2: and we're there for one night, so we flew down.
- 14:47Speaker 2: We got there in the morning. We spent in Paris.
- 14:50Speaker 2: We went to Disneyland the next day and in Paris,
- 14:52Speaker 2: and then came home that night. And the guy's like,
- 14:54Speaker 2: you're from Australia and he'd been here for one day.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Can you tell us what you're doing here? And I said, oh,
- 14:58Speaker 2: we just stayed for the night. I went to Disney
- 15:00Speaker 2: and necessary today and he goes, Okay, are you sure
- 15:03Speaker 2: you've got anything in your bag? And I was like,
- 15:05Speaker 2: why not? They went throwing my bag. They fixed me down,
- 15:07Speaker 2: and at the time I'm thinking, why are you doing this?
- 15:09Speaker 2: And I look back now I go, dude, from Australia.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Nikola had already gone through because she got a separate
- 15:13Speaker 2: visa separate line. I'm just doing from Astralia by myself,
- 15:17Speaker 2: stayed for one day. So this is when you were
- 15:19Speaker 2: leaving France or when you get but I was leaving France. Yeah,
- 15:22Speaker 2: then that's French prival. There is so much muretussy. Why
- 15:27Speaker 2: would you be leaving You just went to disney Land
- 15:29Speaker 2: having tried the shut up.
- 15:32Speaker 4: So look, I'm not necessarily necessarily saying that I agree
- 15:36Speaker 4: with that gentleman the customs, but it's a tiny bit off.
- 15:40Speaker 4: It's a tiny bit of a red flag.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Yeah. And when I arrived at England by myself, disheveled,
- 15:45Speaker 2: first first flight ever, never fluent out of Australia. And
- 15:47Speaker 2: then I'm just like, I didn't know the address of
- 15:49Speaker 2: Nichola's house, Like, so where you're staying, I don't know, Well,
- 15:51Speaker 2: I'm staying was at my girlfriend's house, Like, right, sure
- 15:56Speaker 2: you girlfriend, right, buddy, Yes, I've got an English girlfriend.
- 16:01Speaker 2: You don't know. Just let me through, please.
- 16:07Speaker 4: And the thing of it is, I think I don't
- 16:09Speaker 4: know if this counts for all the strains, but I
- 16:10Speaker 4: think we tend to be sort of fairly friendly with
- 16:13Speaker 4: people in airports especially.
- 16:14Speaker 2: It probably seems suspicious.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Yeah, so certainly when in the times when I've gone
- 16:19Speaker 4: to America, and particularly in a sort of post nine
- 16:21Speaker 4: to eleven, they're not brooking any nonsense or any even
- 16:24Speaker 4: small talk.
- 16:25Speaker 2: They don't want any shit, no, no, And I mean
- 16:27Speaker 2: I always liked it, which I understand. Yeah, I get it.
- 16:29Speaker 4: But at the same time, I think we spoke the
- 16:32Speaker 4: other day, maybe not on one of our shows, but
- 16:34Speaker 4: about just about the importance of manners and politeness and
- 16:37Speaker 4: just a general sort of good manner. It'll get you
- 16:40Speaker 4: a long way in life.
- 16:41Speaker 2: But they've got they've got KPIs though, they're just going
- 16:43Speaker 2: to get people through. Yeah.
- 16:45Speaker 4: I mean, I wasn't saying, hey, let's have a huge
- 16:47Speaker 4: DNM while there's a cube banked up behind me. There
- 16:51Speaker 4: was no one behind me, and it wasn't like, hey,
- 16:53Speaker 4: so how's your day? And I was like I mean,
- 16:55Speaker 4: I was pretty much just like is he day or
- 16:57Speaker 4: something like that, just you know, the usual kind of
- 16:59Speaker 4: spoil driver to taxi driver small talk or Uber driver
- 17:01Speaker 4: small talk.
- 17:02Speaker 2: Worst, what's the worst passage you've ever had? But it's
- 17:05Speaker 2: busy night.
- 17:07Speaker 4: Of course you say things like, I mean, unless you're
- 17:09Speaker 4: just there were times when you're sitting in the back
- 17:11Speaker 4: of the cabaginees, I just want to sit here in silence.
- 17:13Speaker 2: How much do you get how much does Uber get that?
- 17:17Speaker 2: But yeah, I certainly noticed in the States that it's
- 17:19Speaker 2: very much like, no, it's all business. Yeah, just get
- 17:23Speaker 2: through the gate and yeah, jump into business. What are
- 17:25Speaker 2: your thoughts on Homer's little side venture? It was really
- 17:28Speaker 2: a side venture. It was just hom I'd taken advengae
- 17:30Speaker 2: of a situation. I thought it was a pretty boss
- 17:32Speaker 2: move by Homer getting free combination, free food out of it.
- 17:35Speaker 2: That's pretty much It's true. Yeah, he's got his eyes
- 17:37Speaker 2: on the prize absolutely seeing that. Oh so you're gonna
- 17:40Speaker 2: put me up in a pretty decent hotel, free meals
- 17:44Speaker 2: or free willy and free willy of course. Yeah, we'll
- 17:47Speaker 2: get to that.
- 17:48Speaker 4: Uh, yeah, I think I'd kind of jump at the
- 17:50Speaker 4: opportunity even Yeah, I mean there were very there were
- 17:54Speaker 4: various shades of if not necessarily villainy, then sort.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Of misdeeds in this. I mean there's there are you know,
- 18:01Speaker 2: messing up the process. I actually no, they're not. It's
- 18:04Speaker 2: not he actually no, because because of that, I mean
- 18:07Speaker 2: he didn't. He's doing it for the wrong reason, acting
- 18:09Speaker 2: for the wrong reason. Yes, yes, because he say how
- 18:12Speaker 2: many Essa's an innocent yea lovely life. But the thing
- 18:16Speaker 2: is he like taking all this stuff, all the souvenirs
- 18:18Speaker 2: from the from the hotel and things like that. It's
- 18:20Speaker 2: all taking something from time to time. Not chairs and whatnot.
- 18:22Speaker 2: But that's just taking what an every day thing that
- 18:25Speaker 2: everyone tends to do and just amplifying it because it's home.
- 18:27Speaker 2: Oh very much so.
- 18:28Speaker 4: Now I was always big on, you know, when staying
- 18:30Speaker 4: in hotels when I have when I had hair, would
- 18:33Speaker 4: be pinching shampoo and stuff. Now it's just body lotion
- 18:35Speaker 4: and soaps, and you know, depending on how I loved
- 18:38Speaker 4: taking soaps in the hotel, they use it the next
- 18:39Speaker 4: week like this is so cool? Oh absolutely yeah, depending
- 18:42Speaker 4: on the hotel you're staying, it's like your little little
- 18:45Speaker 4: slip ons oh that's I never sort of take anything
- 18:48Speaker 4: like that, although these were in a pack they were
- 18:51Speaker 4: to take. Yeah, oh okay for the person that the
- 18:53Speaker 4: guy was like, well, we're never going to use this
- 18:54Speaker 4: again because they come back your feet a bit on understandable.
- 19:00Speaker 4: I think I might have been scared straight because I'm
- 19:05Speaker 4: sure I've told this story in the past. But when
- 19:08Speaker 4: when we were living in England back in back in
- 19:11Speaker 4: seventy nine, and we did a bit of a road
- 19:12Speaker 4: trip around and we stayed at this very nice hotel
- 19:14Speaker 4: one night. It was my folks, my mom and dad
- 19:17Speaker 4: and my sister and I and when we left the
- 19:21Speaker 4: next day, my sister had taken with her a very
- 19:24Speaker 4: nice sort of robe.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Yeah, the robes are good. The robes are good, my
- 19:29Speaker 2: sister and Weena clearly thought. So she either let it slip.
- 19:33Speaker 4: I don't know how mom and dad discovered this, but
- 19:34Speaker 4: we were about maybe half an hour away, you know,
- 19:37Speaker 4: we'd driven away from the hotel and all that, and
- 19:40Speaker 4: it was revealed, oh she's got this dreading moment. Dad
- 19:44Speaker 4: were ropeable, furious, turned around, had to take it back.
- 19:49Speaker 4: So I'm like, oh, okay, then that's not for taking.
- 19:52Speaker 4: I think I'll remain, you know, a low level offender
- 19:56Speaker 4: and just take soaps hotels like you get back that.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Can you please take it? We don't. Yeah, it's been
- 20:02Speaker 2: in contact with all your other clothes now, No, no,
- 20:04Speaker 2: it's yours. Now, past pieces have been all over this.
- 20:07Speaker 2: I'm not sure if they actually said, oh yeah, fine, no,
- 20:13Speaker 2: we'll take that back and put through the wash or whatever.
- 20:16Speaker 4: But yeah, I just remember, oh god, my mom and
- 20:19Speaker 4: there was so furious that my sister had done that. Yeah,
- 20:21Speaker 4: we've all done something like that.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Oh yeah, but Homer takes it to extremes here and
- 20:25Speaker 2: souvenirs souvenirs. I just think the dynamic between Skinner and
- 20:29Speaker 2: Home it was really enjoyable. Here they are a regular
- 20:30Speaker 2: odd couple, and I think there's more he could have
- 20:32Speaker 2: done with that relationship throughout the show. That's true. Yeah,
- 20:34Speaker 2: I mean how often do we see them interacting? I mean,
- 20:38Speaker 2: you know, usually all that often.
- 20:39Speaker 4: Usually it's when early on, at least in the in
- 20:41Speaker 4: the series, was when Bart had done something wrong and
- 20:44Speaker 4: they had to come in and all right, what have
- 20:46Speaker 4: you done this time?
- 20:46Speaker 2: Et cetera.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Yeah, but having the having them sort of break containment
- 20:50Speaker 4: and having to deal with one another the b Sharps
- 20:53Speaker 4: in the outset of course. Yeah yeah, but this just
- 20:55Speaker 4: felt like, yes, they do have a nice sort of
- 20:58Speaker 4: it's not necessarily the chemist you'd think of is. It's
- 21:00Speaker 4: like it's not a teaming that you'd automatically make.
- 21:04Speaker 2: Well, we're doing season twenty now obviously with the with
- 21:07Speaker 2: the podcast, and it feels like Skinner only really has
- 21:09Speaker 2: a dynamic now with with Charmers. That's you haven't really
- 21:13Speaker 2: seen with Agnes all that often anymore. It's just Charmers,
- 21:15Speaker 2: that's true. Yeah, yeah, I mean, look, I do like
- 21:18Speaker 2: the way that those two are kind of like an
- 21:20Speaker 2: odd couple. But just seeing them in the hotel together,
- 21:24Speaker 2: I thought it was just his bed nice and tired
- 21:25Speaker 2: in homes is covered in food and that. Oh yeah,
- 21:27Speaker 2: well the little apron he was wearing the like, I
- 21:31Speaker 2: think they have a literal sort of shout out to
- 21:33Speaker 2: the odd this is what a regular odd couple. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:35Speaker 4: And also a bit from the opening credits to the
- 21:38Speaker 4: TV series where you know which one was the slob?
- 21:41Speaker 4: I think Oscar Madison is the slob and Felix Hunger
- 21:43Speaker 4: is the more sort of uptight one.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Which one was Matthew Perry, it was he was the slot. Yeah,
- 21:51Speaker 2: nice bit of sort of counterintuitive casting. I think, did
- 21:53Speaker 2: you ever watch much of that Matthew Perry Odd Couple
- 21:56Speaker 2: Bath three four episodes? Yeah, I think so as well.
- 21:58Speaker 2: It's like, it's it's fine, but it's not necessarily a
- 22:00Speaker 2: point I'm doing. But yeah, there's a bit in the
- 22:02Speaker 2: opening credits the original one where he sort of throws
- 22:05Speaker 2: your cigar butt on the street and the other guy
- 22:06Speaker 2: picks it up with his umbrella. It's really yeah, I think,
- 22:10Speaker 2: yeah that they reference that this as well. Yeah, so
- 22:13Speaker 2: we are a regular rock, isn't it great? There's there's
- 22:15Speaker 2: a shadow that there's no mention of that an you
- 22:17Speaker 2: in the wiki page. I don't think it's just even
- 22:19Speaker 2: to this day, twenty twenty five and watching episodes that
- 22:21Speaker 2: I've seen at least fifty times, if not more, and
- 22:23Speaker 2: I'm still discovering new things about it. That's not so
- 22:25Speaker 2: great about classic Simpsons that all these little nods, you know,
- 22:28Speaker 2: just to shows and references and things that mean nothing
- 22:31Speaker 2: to the grand scheme of the story, but they're there. Yeah,
- 22:34Speaker 2: I know, it's absolutely chock a block with yeah, pop
- 22:37Speaker 2: culture references that are very much of their time, but
- 22:39Speaker 2: also ones that are yeah, sort of evergreen. Yeah, And
- 22:44Speaker 2: as we've always said, you know, I think, particularly when
- 22:46Speaker 2: we're talking about quote unquote classic Simpsons, like you know,
- 22:49Speaker 2: if you get it, great, and if you don't, it's
- 22:50Speaker 2: like part of your brain's going, maybe that means something,
- 22:54Speaker 2: and you know, maybe I should either ask someone or
- 22:56Speaker 2: look it up or someone eventually will tell me. It's like, oh,
- 22:59Speaker 2: you know, some wise guy like mails you know what
- 23:01Speaker 2: means that? Right? There were two great by the way,
- 23:04Speaker 2: just the wiki page it does mention the cigar, but
- 23:06Speaker 2: being picked up on the wiki page show I just
- 23:07Speaker 2: didn't read it. But there two moments in this episode
- 23:11Speaker 2: they're not going to say now, we'll do it during
- 23:12Speaker 2: the review. Our classic examples of that, where as a kid,
- 23:15Speaker 2: you're watching it, going, I think this may be something,
- 23:18Speaker 2: and I don't quite get why this is funny, but
- 23:20Speaker 2: you know it just is funny for some reason. Sure,
- 23:22Speaker 2: and then you learn why it's funny later on what
- 23:23Speaker 2: they're representing, and go, oh, that's actually a really good joke.
- 23:26Speaker 2: But I look forward to hearing what they are from that. Yes,
- 23:29Speaker 2: But before we do that, though, we're going to touch
- 23:31Speaker 2: on our Favorite Moments. Four figure discount is brought to

- 24:03Speaker 2: my favorite. So that Wow, that didn't go well. That lawyer,
- 24:08Speaker 2: it's not the blue head long in my mind, it's
- 24:10Speaker 2: not the blue headler. Let's look at Freddy Quimby's lawyer.
- 24:12Speaker 2: What is his name, Freddie. I should have done it already,
- 24:14Speaker 2: Freddy Quimby's lawyer. He just called Freddy Quimby's lawyer. Yeah,
- 24:17Speaker 2: defended Freddy Quimby in The Boy Knew too Much? And
- 24:20Speaker 2: this is then episode of your peared in. I wonder
- 24:21Speaker 2: if they just why didn't they have the blue head lawyer.
- 24:25Speaker 2: I'm just the same it is, isn't it?
- 24:27Speaker 4: Because Initially I was thinking I was getting on my
- 24:30Speaker 4: sort of courtroom episodes jumbled up. Yeah, and I initially
- 24:35Speaker 4: thought that Quimmy's lawyer was going to say I thought
- 24:37Speaker 4: he was going to say, superhan, I am so, I
- 24:39Speaker 4: am so confident, my guys, I can waste the jury's
- 24:42Speaker 4: time rating the super hunks. I didn't have that, unfortunately,
- 24:46Speaker 4: But yeah, you're right, it seems odd that you wouldn't have.
- 24:50Speaker 4: You're already established law. I mean, I know you've got
- 24:52Speaker 4: Lionel Hearts as kind of the quite unquite Simpson's lawyer character,
- 24:55Speaker 4: the blue head Lawyer is one that we remember and
- 24:58Speaker 4: remember fondly.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Maybe mister Burns couldn't pass my Maybe he's just sol
- 25:00Speaker 2: solely for mister Burns. He's on retainer. Yeah, what else
- 25:04Speaker 2: did you enjoy?
- 25:05Speaker 1: So?
- 25:05Speaker 2: I like the morning mood music. I'd always liked that
- 25:06Speaker 2: when they use that music to set the tone of
- 25:08Speaker 2: the episode. So it's new morning, looking out the door,
- 25:12Speaker 2: it's a beautiful day outside. We have to go to school. Yeah,
- 25:14Speaker 2: it's great music, but I loved it's in the classroom scene,
- 25:18Speaker 2: a Millhouse is saying, because the chairs of feeling less
- 25:21Speaker 2: of my body and missus case goes yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 25:26Speaker 2: And the one more for me was the director's cut
- 25:28Speaker 2: of Free Willy. What a mess, Oh bye way, shout
- 25:33Speaker 2: out to the great Michael Madison. Yeah.
- 25:37Speaker 4: By the time this goes where, it'll have been yeah,
- 25:39Speaker 4: a little while since he passed away far too young
- 25:40Speaker 4: at the age of sixty seven, but generally known as
- 25:43Speaker 4: a bit of a tough guy from Reservoir Dogs and
- 25:45Speaker 4: other Tarantino movies. But yeah, a lot more to him.
- 25:47Speaker 4: And yeah, there was a really a really nice sort
- 25:51Speaker 4: of oh bit slash remembrance about Michael Madison. They talked
- 25:56Speaker 4: a lot about his role in Free Willy and how
- 25:58Speaker 4: he was just this sort of not emotionally buttoned up guy,
- 26:01Speaker 4: but a man a few words who nonetheless sort of
- 26:04Speaker 4: showed that he loved this adopted son and.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Backed him up every step of the way. It was
- 26:08Speaker 2: just really and said, it's really really good acting from
- 26:11Speaker 2: a source that you might not expect it for. Michael
- 26:13Speaker 2: Madson was a really good actor and really enjoyable in
- 26:15Speaker 2: Free Willy, or really good in Free Willy. So yeah, fun.
- 26:17Speaker 2: The fact about Free Willie voice actor Debbie Deryberry, who
- 26:20Speaker 2: was the voice of Jimmy Neutron. You may know a
- 26:22Speaker 2: voice Jimmy Neutron. She is the stunt double when he's
- 26:25Speaker 2: righting the whale the boy because she's such a small
- 26:27Speaker 2: she's so small that she was used whenever the boy's
- 26:30Speaker 2: righting the whale. In the movie, it's her right in
- 26:32Speaker 2: the whale. That's nice.
- 26:34Speaker 4: That is legitimately a fun I had a few favorite moments,
- 26:39Speaker 4: if you tell me them. I thought Lisa's laugh was
- 26:42Speaker 4: very cute when they're playing good cop, bad cop and
- 26:45Speaker 4: they just keep messing up their roles and she's just
- 26:47Speaker 4: tickled by how it struct. I'm sure you know Yalley
- 26:53Speaker 4: Smith has done that laugh for Lisa many times the Master,
- 26:55Speaker 4: but it just it felt fresh and not unusual, but
- 27:00Speaker 4: it just felt fresh to me here. I'm just genuine,
- 27:03Speaker 4: I really I got a kick out of it. We
- 27:05Speaker 4: mentioned French things early. This is going to be a
- 27:07Speaker 4: bit of a French thinged episode. But there's a French saying.
- 27:11Speaker 2: He's French footb young.
- 27:14Speaker 4: It's generally generally well. The translation is the wit of
- 27:18Speaker 4: the staircase. And as when you come up with a
- 27:21Speaker 4: great sort of comeback five minutes after you needed it,
- 27:25Speaker 4: you know you're in a conversation with someone, they say that.
- 27:27Speaker 2: They give you a little bit of a several times
- 27:28Speaker 2: in the Simpsons.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, and he's like, you're walking out of the
- 27:31Speaker 4: party AND's like, oh no, I should have said this,
- 27:33Speaker 4: and it's too late to run back, and sort.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Of yeah, so they we're too late. It just might
- 27:36Speaker 2: look like a bit of a fool.
- 27:37Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, exactly. Episode for Skinner to say, well, I'll
- 27:40Speaker 4: double your attention.
- 27:42Speaker 2: I wish someone had heard that. It's the same when
- 27:45Speaker 2: George Bush is in town and how he goes see
- 27:47Speaker 2: someone said he's barking up the wrong bush. There is
- 27:49Speaker 2: home with the smartest thing you got to say, and
- 27:51Speaker 2: no one was ready here.
- 27:53Speaker 4: I'll speaking of Homer, I loved it when he and
- 27:56Speaker 4: Bart pass each other on the street do a little masquerade, so.
- 27:59Speaker 2: You know, I both know head down. Oh I can't
- 28:04Speaker 2: let him have the comb something. I can't let the
- 28:06Speaker 2: boy know I'm skipping work. How do you do? So
- 28:11Speaker 2: they're five feet away from it, sucker. What's great about
- 28:13Speaker 2: that is neither of them actually care the other person
- 28:16Speaker 2: is doing the wrong thing, so they could have just
- 28:17Speaker 2: spoken to each other.
- 28:20Speaker 4: I mentioned McGonagall before. Yeah, just everything to do with
- 28:24Speaker 4: that guy's fantastic and all the stuff with a chowder
- 28:28Speaker 4: slash showder is great. But there's a nice little button
- 28:32Speaker 4: on that whole thing with the headline and the end
- 28:35Speaker 4: of the newspaper headlines saying, oh Freddie Quimby accused of
- 28:39Speaker 4: whatever underneath that chowder said wrong.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Yeah, you got to kick out of that.
- 28:44Speaker 5: Next question, you there eating the beast?
- 28:47Speaker 2: All right, trivia time. My first question for you is
- 28:50Speaker 2: what is Bart's excuse for going to the dentist? Oh?
- 28:53Speaker 2: Is bridgework. He's got something lodged under his bridgework? Is
- 28:55Speaker 2: a caraway seed? Caraway seed under his bridge? That would suck?
- 28:59Speaker 4: Speaking of that class room, they've got those new sort
- 29:03Speaker 4: of chairs that are designed to improve posture.
- 29:06Speaker 2: By what year will posture be perfected? Apparently? Three thousand year,
- 29:10Speaker 2: three thousand, yes, yes, name. What is the name of
- 29:13Speaker 2: the adult film that Bart goes to watch? It's a
- 29:15Speaker 2: boobo rama rama. Bart goes to an auction place. Is
- 29:21Speaker 2: a bid on a painting? What's his bid? One point
- 29:25Speaker 2: four million? One two million? It's two point three two
- 29:28Speaker 2: point three million. We'll talk about soon. We get that's
- 29:32Speaker 2: the grown up. What was the springfield auction house formally, Oh,
- 29:38Speaker 2: I says Springfield auction House formally, I missed that one. Vacant, Oh,
- 29:43Speaker 2: vacant lot. What night is ladies night at Quimby Compound.

- 31:25Speaker 2: the month. All right. So The Boy Who Knew Too
- 31:28Speaker 2: Much originally aired May fifth, nineteen ninety four. The top
- 31:31Speaker 2: three films at the US box office at the time
- 31:33Speaker 2: Number three, Bad Girls, number two, No Escape. I have
- 31:37Speaker 2: not heard over those two, those two films, and number
- 31:39Speaker 2: one was Four Weddings at a Funeral, which had been
- 31:41Speaker 2: number one for like five straight weeks. Okay, you'd heard
- 31:43Speaker 2: about that one. That one. Take a little bit. Bad
- 31:46Speaker 2: Girl has I feeling in my fingers it shure does. Yeah, wow,
- 31:52Speaker 2: filling the romance. Someone said, you feeling, that's the betest thing.
- 31:58Speaker 2: I don't know what. I was around a ninety for
- 32:01Speaker 2: minutes and how Bad Girls is a cow girl movie
- 32:08Speaker 2: about four I guess female bandits in the Old West.
- 32:12Speaker 2: Who is it? I think it's your Girl. Drew Barrymore
- 32:14Speaker 2: is in it. Okay. It is a follow up to
- 32:15Speaker 2: Bad Boys. It is not unrelated to the movie Bad Girls.
- 32:20Speaker 2: Bad Girls. I think they're going to do, Sure, they're
- 32:23Speaker 2: going to do I think it's any mcdale, Madeleine Stowe,
- 32:28Speaker 2: Mary Stuart Masterson and Drew Barrymore And yeah they're have
- 32:33Speaker 2: me it, Drew. So yeah, there's that.
- 32:36Speaker 4: And No Escape is uh film in Australia. Actually it's
- 32:40Speaker 4: sort of like a future prison colony movie.
- 32:42Speaker 2: It's like, oh, the worst of the worst gets sent
- 32:45Speaker 2: to this prison island and there's two like warring tribes
- 32:48Speaker 2: or something like that, and thrust into the middle of
- 32:50Speaker 2: it is Super well not super soldier, but badass soldier Rayleotta,
- 32:54Speaker 2: who yeah, the bad tribe once and is like oh, yeah,
- 32:58Speaker 2: we can use this guy's like a living weapon. And
- 33:00Speaker 2: he's like, no, I think I want to go to
- 33:01Speaker 2: hang out with the good guys. Re made in twenty fifteen,
- 33:04Speaker 2: apparently Owen Wilson. No, that's they just recycled the title.
- 33:09Speaker 2: As we tend to do these Robins is transferred to
- 33:12Speaker 2: absolom An Island prison, where he learns about a primitive
- 33:15Speaker 2: and dangerous society of prisoners. He sets out to find
- 33:17Speaker 2: an escape route so that he can expose the prisoner's truth. Well, yeah,
- 33:21Speaker 2: that's the thing he wants to escape, but apparently there
- 33:23Speaker 2: is no escape. Railyota another memory lost too early. I know,
- 33:27Speaker 2: Aman Ray, cool dude, good movie, no escape, losing all
- 33:31Speaker 2: the bad asses, right, indeed, yeah, Live fast, Die younger.
- 33:36Speaker 2: But there might be some truth to that. Yeah all right,
- 33:39Speaker 2: so I'm living slow? Yes indeed, all right, so yes,
- 33:42Speaker 2: I said the original eight May fifth, nineteenty four, they
- 33:44Speaker 2: were the top three films. The number one song at
- 33:46Speaker 2: the US on the US Billboard charts at this time
- 33:48Speaker 2: was Ace of Bass, the sign oh I saw the
- 33:52Speaker 2: same nineties kids love that song. I'm taking that you
- 33:54Speaker 2: don't like that song, I don't mind. Ace of Bass
- 33:56Speaker 2: I don't like rock set, I don't know. I only
- 33:59Speaker 2: need that song, and I know that, Oh that she
- 34:01Speaker 2: wants is that.
- 34:03Speaker 4: I watched some documentary about as bas because I always
- 34:05Speaker 4: thought I was being very literal and thinking, what she
- 34:09Speaker 4: wants another baby as in Google Gaga. But she just
- 34:12Speaker 4: wants another baby like another partner lover.
- 34:15Speaker 2: Yes, what are their what are their main songs? Sign
- 34:18Speaker 2: and all that she wants? All that she wants, but
- 34:20Speaker 2: the signs the big one, right, was all that she wants?
- 34:22Speaker 2: Was that big? I think it's all that she wants
- 34:24Speaker 2: for me, not his kidders was number one was Demanding
- 34:30Speaker 2: Without Understanding. So that was number one film with the
- 34:34Speaker 2: number one song on the US Billboard charts. When this
- 34:35Speaker 2: episode originally aired, I Guess, starring Phil Hartman, of course,
- 34:38Speaker 2: as Lionel Hunts. It was a production Code one F
- 34:41Speaker 2: one nine, written by the legendary John Swartzwelder and directed
- 34:44Speaker 2: by Jeffrey Lynch. Chopboard game. There are plenty of businesses
- 34:47Speaker 2: like show businesses and the couch gay that Simpsons sit
- 34:50Speaker 2: on the couch and find themselves on the set of
- 34:52Speaker 2: The Late Show with David Letterman, so many just nods
- 34:54Speaker 2: to the past and oh yeah, at the time, it
- 34:56Speaker 2: wasn't a not to the past. Week watching it and
- 34:58Speaker 2: you're like, oh, let them then take me back very
- 35:00Speaker 2: nineties episode, wasn't it? Yeah? Looking at looking at this,
- 35:03Speaker 2: even that cartoon rendition of Letterman's like, oh, remember we
- 35:06Speaker 2: used to have those great late night talk shows. People's
- 35:08Speaker 2: talked on talk shows. Oh yeah, got gimmicks, nuts, stunts.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Let's not get into that ranch. We knew that's a
- 35:14Speaker 2: whole new episode. So the episode kicks off with a
- 35:16Speaker 2: sunny morning in Springfield. Butt and Lisa, they're in the
- 35:19Speaker 2: doorway of their home. They're about to leave. They're awaiting
- 35:21Speaker 2: the school bus and busses how can they amp prison
- 35:24Speaker 2: us in school and on a beautiful day like this?
- 35:26Speaker 2: And very often you feel like this way when you're
- 35:28Speaker 2: a kid. Elliot's starting to get to the point where
- 35:30Speaker 2: he's like, do I have to go to school? He's
- 35:32Speaker 2: doing well at school, he likes to going to school.
- 35:33Speaker 2: But you know, you can't help to get to a
- 35:35Speaker 2: point where you go, there are so much other things
- 35:36Speaker 2: I would rather be doing. Oh, absolutely, But you gotta
- 35:40Speaker 2: sort of realize you're going to see all your friends, buddy,
- 35:42Speaker 2: you will miss this when you are nineteen and you're
- 35:45Speaker 2: not at school anymore, you have to arrange to see
- 35:47Speaker 2: your friends. It's not just something that all your friends
- 35:48Speaker 2: are going to be doing. They're going to the same place.
- 35:50Speaker 2: You're going to miss it. I remember hearing some story.
- 35:53Speaker 4: I think it was a friend of mine who their
- 35:56Speaker 4: daughter went to school for the first time, went like
- 35:57Speaker 4: on their first day and came out.
- 36:00Speaker 2: It was like, well that was good. Yeah, I had fun, Like, oh,
- 36:03Speaker 2: you'll enjoy going back tomorrow. Wait, what.
- 36:08Speaker 4: Didn't Wite tweets like this is your life for the
- 36:10Speaker 4: next for the forthcoming future.
- 36:13Speaker 2: I feel I feel like it would be a miss
- 36:15Speaker 2: for me not to mention the kid. So you excited
- 36:18Speaker 2: for school? Uh huh, you're going to miss your mom.
- 36:22Speaker 2: That is one of my favorite I feel so sorry
- 36:25Speaker 2: for the kid, but it's just a realization of oh ship,
- 36:27Speaker 2: I was going to be there gusing that that kid
- 36:31Speaker 2: probably called the teacher mum. That's something you're going to
- 36:34Speaker 2: miss your mom. It's just that we all a little attacker.
- 36:38Speaker 2: But yeah, Lisa says, I'm not going to be imprisoning us,
- 36:40Speaker 2: and then obviously arrives in the prison bus because the
- 36:44Speaker 2: school bus has broken down, and he says to hurry
- 36:47Speaker 2: up and get in or you're gonna blow their heads
- 36:48Speaker 2: off because he's got a shining thing going on with
- 36:50Speaker 2: the bus. Lines like that just sort of skim over
- 36:53Speaker 2: my head. But I'm watching it now with the kids,
- 36:55Speaker 2: and I'm thinking that's a pretty heavy line. It's a
- 36:58Speaker 2: kid's cartoon. Get in there, your heads off. But anyway,
- 37:01Speaker 2: so they're on there now, and the door slam shut,
- 37:04Speaker 2: just like a prison cell. Wood slam shut. Kids playing
- 37:06Speaker 2: the harmonica, rattling the can on the wall. Every kid
- 37:08Speaker 2: goes into the jailhouse immediately. I love that. But looks
- 37:12Speaker 2: out the window as the morning score plays again, the
- 37:15Speaker 2: morning mood, whatever it is, and he envisions himself on
- 37:17Speaker 2: a raft of Huckleberry Finn and ally and misspelling one
- 37:22Speaker 2: of your most famous presidents, underchieverd and proud of it.
- 37:24Speaker 2: Maybe you shouldn't be skipping school, But yes, there's an
- 37:28Speaker 2: extra l in that Lincoln. But kids then arrive, they
- 37:30Speaker 2: arrive at school and they've got the new ultra hard
- 37:32Speaker 2: posturific chairs. They've just arrived. It reminds me we've just
- 37:36Speaker 2: reviewed a leader of our own for Tales of Futurama,
- 37:39Speaker 2: on our Patreon with the funny chairs. Wow, kind of
- 37:44Speaker 2: like it's like unified theory, except maybe it's just they're
- 37:47Speaker 2: all no original ideas. Yeah, but they're designed by eminent
- 37:51Speaker 2: posturologists to eliminate slouchy by the year three thousand. As
- 37:54Speaker 2: you're saying in your trivia, now I've got here, note
- 37:57Speaker 2: slouching probably worse than ever right now because we spend
- 38:00Speaker 2: so much time not just at school but sitting at
- 38:03Speaker 2: a computer desk. Oh. Sure, my posture is terrible.
- 38:06Speaker 4: Yes, yeah, I mean I'm finding myself in creaking increasingly
- 38:12Speaker 4: aware he is creep by that. Yeah, I'll find myself
- 38:16Speaker 4: sort of like like, oh I'm gonna get out.
- 38:18Speaker 2: Of bed and go to the bathroom. It's like creepy crack.
- 38:23Speaker 2: There's always that. But it's like, am I sort of
- 38:25Speaker 2: am I on an angle? Am I sort of leaning down?
- 38:28Speaker 2: Have I got?
- 38:29Speaker 4: Am I going to become Hans Molment essentially? So yeah,
- 38:31Speaker 4: I really have to check myselfs.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Like posture has ruined my ruin my life. I'm thirty
- 38:35Speaker 2: one years old. Yeah, stand up straight man. It's but yeah,
- 38:39Speaker 2: lesson that you kind of have to keep reminding yourself
- 38:41Speaker 2: of isn't it one hundred percent? And I think also too,
- 38:44Speaker 2: because we're so so often during the day now we
- 38:47Speaker 2: are looking down at a screen. Well, yeah, you go,
- 38:49Speaker 2: you go out in public and everyone's looking down our
- 38:51Speaker 2: Next they're going to evolve to be like this.
- 38:53Speaker 4: Oh yeah, we're gonna We're all gonna be like Quasimoto. Yeah,
- 38:55Speaker 4: little hunchbacks of Notre Dame. Um not to sort of
- 38:59Speaker 4: call this kid out, but yeah, I mean, I think
- 39:02Speaker 4: lovely Luise has said to her to her son, feelix,
- 39:04Speaker 4: everyone's like, do this every once in a while. Make
- 39:06Speaker 4: sure your heads sort of make sure your neck is straight.
- 39:08Speaker 4: Otherwise you know, yeah, your head's gonna be in like
- 39:10Speaker 4: a weird angle. You're going to be scooching around like
- 39:13Speaker 4: a little like a little troll person.
- 39:15Speaker 2: Elliott, he's just discovered the whole. I think I've mentioned
- 39:17Speaker 2: it leaning back on two legs on a chair, and
- 39:20Speaker 2: then when I school and everyone's and everyone's doing it,
- 39:22Speaker 2: I'm like, mate, he's doing it in the kitchen chairs.
- 39:24Speaker 2: I go, you know, hurt yourself in to break my chair.
- 39:27Speaker 2: I'm gonna be twice as piste. It's broken son and
- 39:31Speaker 2: broken chair. I can't be not good times. But Martin,
- 39:35Speaker 2: he's having back spasms. She says, don't worry. Eventually your
- 39:38Speaker 2: bones will change shape. Milhouse can't have any he doesn't
- 39:40Speaker 2: have any feeling the less out of his body. Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 39:42Speaker 2: and the clock since have been running fast all semester.
- 39:44Speaker 2: They need to stay back an extra two hours. As revealed,
- 39:47Speaker 2: the bart did it with his little bastard clock tamper
- 39:48Speaker 2: and kid, I miss the days of when we needs
- 39:50Speaker 2: to have little bastards, get a little bastard branding. Yeah, yeah,
- 39:53Speaker 2: but he used to have them all the time, little
- 39:55Speaker 2: bastard something king. Yeah, and they don't do it anymore
- 39:57Speaker 2: season twenty. Do it more, go back in time. That's
- 39:59Speaker 2: some to season twenty and add more of these tampering
- 40:02Speaker 2: kits and whatnot, just insert them by magic or the
- 40:05Speaker 2: magic of editing. Yes, but gazes out the windows. He's
- 40:08Speaker 2: a squirrel, sun rainbow deer. And then Freddie Quinby and
- 40:13Speaker 2: his girlfriend arrives and he says, to think I got
- 40:15Speaker 2: all this out there, dropping out of obviously the fourth grade,
- 40:17Speaker 2: because where Bud is right now, Bar's like, that's it,
- 40:18Speaker 2: I'm getting out of here. But besides, he's going to
- 40:21Speaker 2: write a fake note, and I really like this. So
- 40:24Speaker 2: he says, my mum's numbers on ever you want to
- 40:26Speaker 2: double check, so no worry, I believe you. I love
- 40:28Speaker 2: the gamble here. I love the gamble of putting Marge's
- 40:31Speaker 2: number on there, just hoping that she doesn't actually double check.
- 40:34Speaker 2: But there's also the assumption of right, well, by the
- 40:37Speaker 2: time she has checked, I could have gotten away far
- 40:39Speaker 2: enough from school by now, because it has that level
- 40:41Speaker 2: of well, he must be telling the truth because he's
- 40:43Speaker 2: willing to let me call his mum. So he's just
- 40:45Speaker 2: like the names everyone to call. Is she going to
- 40:49Speaker 2: actually do it? Oh? Am? I going to get away
- 40:50Speaker 2: with this? It's going all in. It is going all in.
- 40:52Speaker 2: I appreciate the gamble.
- 40:54Speaker 4: You've really ramped up your scheme, haven't. He's like, this
- 40:58Speaker 4: could pay off big time or could just completely explode
- 41:01Speaker 4: in my face.
- 41:02Speaker 2: It's like we watch Judge Judy right, and the person says,
- 41:05Speaker 2: she goes, so if I call your insurance company, will
- 41:08Speaker 2: they say you're insured? At this point they go yeah, okay,
- 41:10Speaker 2: they actually actually maybe it expired the day before. You're
- 41:14Speaker 2: on the day before the morning. But I just love
- 41:18Speaker 2: that in that moment they go well I might as
- 41:20Speaker 2: well go for it. Yeah, they would say that and
- 41:21Speaker 2: stop going to go check, like, oh the blust being
- 41:23Speaker 2: called that's why I don't play poker. Yeah, I would
- 41:28Speaker 2: be terrible at reading people and I would have an
- 41:31Speaker 2: inability to bluff. Yeah, but the note says sorry for
- 41:33Speaker 2: my handwriting, I've busted whatever hand it is that I
- 41:35Speaker 2: write with, and he says, you were right to be suspicious, Edna.
- 41:38Speaker 2: So they go to the crimea Yeah, the visual missus
- 41:41Speaker 2: Kate just smoking a dart in the background. I love it.
- 41:45Speaker 4: And yeah, I mean I was better, say, very nineties
- 41:47Speaker 4: computer sort of set up, and the crime the whole
- 41:50Speaker 4: whole yeah, whole punch cards or whatever.
- 41:52Speaker 2: This feels like sort of like the fifties or the
- 41:54Speaker 2: six Yeah, there's something you've seen in the X Files. Maybe, Yeah,
- 41:57Speaker 2: I think we're a little further along in the early nineties,
- 41:59Speaker 2: even though late eighties. There's ninety four when an X
- 42:02Speaker 2: file start ninety four ninety three, it was ninety three, right,
- 42:05Speaker 2: it feels like that.
- 42:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 42:08Speaker 2: We watched the first two seasons of X Files, and
- 42:09Speaker 2: it's just one of those ones where I'm like, I'm
- 42:11Speaker 2: gonna I'm gonna go back to this. We're currently watching
- 42:13Speaker 2: er as you be well aware. Yeah, really enjoying it.
- 42:16Speaker 2: But I said to Nicola, we need to watch at
- 42:20Speaker 2: most one episode of Night because I'm starting to see
- 42:23Speaker 2: the formula. Oh and once once you see the formula,
- 42:26Speaker 2: you just it takes you out of it. Oh. Absolutely,
- 42:28Speaker 2: And there's nothing wrong with having the formula. But because
- 42:30Speaker 2: they weren't made to be binged, it was a.
- 42:32Speaker 4: Once a week shark. Yeah, so yeah, you had enough
- 42:35Speaker 4: stuff going on the rest of the other six days.
- 42:37Speaker 4: It's like by the time you get back to we are,
- 42:39Speaker 4: it's like, God, I guess is the woman. But you
- 42:42Speaker 4: sort of embrace the familiarity of it as well. It
- 42:44Speaker 4: becomes a feature rather than a bug.
- 42:47Speaker 2: Well for me, it's just like Nick and I have
- 42:48Speaker 2: a little game now where it's all calm or whatever
- 42:51Speaker 2: that's talking and we're just waiting for the it's always
- 42:55Speaker 2: the music, and then they always get the body and
- 42:56Speaker 2: they pull them onto the tables like that's the music.
- 42:59Speaker 2: It gets me every time. It's hilarious. No one goes
- 43:01Speaker 2: into that hospital casually. It's fucking boom that the doors open.
- 43:07Speaker 2: No one goes into the hospital that way, By the
- 43:10Speaker 2: way created by Michael Krist Yeah, executive produced by Steven Spielberg.
- 43:14Speaker 2: What did they collaborate on. I think it was this
- 43:16Speaker 2: film called Cretaceous Part Jurassicville, Yes, something along those lines. Yeah.
- 43:23Speaker 2: With their powers combined, they created a Jurassic Park. Oh wow. Okay,
- 43:26Speaker 2: And we just discussed it on some other podcasts with
- 43:29Speaker 2: some schmugs. I don't know what's his name, some schmuzz
- 43:33Speaker 2: We may have heard of him. Indeed, tune in to
- 43:35Speaker 2: the movie Guard with Molton Davis. Well, we talk about
- 43:37Speaker 2: Jurassic Park. It is back, baby. Lenard has been unwell,
- 43:40Speaker 2: but we're back now after a month, and we discussed
- 43:42Speaker 2: Drassic Park because the recent release of Jurassic Rebirth, which
- 43:46Speaker 2: I enjoyed it. That wasn't the greatest film, but I
- 43:48Speaker 2: enjoyed Guy not so much. So you'll hear his thoughts
- 43:50Speaker 2: on that. But we're going to do a proper review
- 43:51Speaker 2: of Jossic Rebirth as well, once Leonard had seen it.
- 43:53Speaker 4: Indeed, and Lennard was back with a vengeance because yeah,
- 43:56Speaker 4: we were thought, well we'll just talk for a twenty
- 43:58Speaker 4: minutes or so, we end up going for closer.
- 43:59Speaker 2: Now. Alice was back as well.
- 44:02Speaker 4: Alice was chiming in from the from the sidelines, but no,
- 44:06Speaker 4: he was a load of a bear and ready to go.
- 44:08Speaker 2: It was a good talk. We talk of a million
- 44:09Speaker 2: hour about Jurassic Park, and the week after may possibly
- 44:12Speaker 2: be Soupman as well, because Superman's just come out. Correct
- 44:15Speaker 2: a lot of It's summer in the US. We're finally
- 44:17Speaker 2: getting some movies to watch. The Blockbusters are here, yes,
- 44:21Speaker 2: but so as we're saying, they're in the crime lab
- 44:23Speaker 2: that the results are inconclusive because the only student who
- 44:27Speaker 2: has agreed to have the what do they call it,
- 44:29Speaker 2: it's an electronic tracking device, yeah, is Martin and so
- 44:33Speaker 2: they can't find But then they have the good cop
- 44:35Speaker 2: bad cop routine with Lisa trying to get some information
- 44:37Speaker 2: as to where bart is, but she obviously she actually
- 44:39Speaker 2: has no idea Spiller, where's your your better? Runs around Lisa,
- 44:44Speaker 2: he's a bad man. What are you laughing about?
- 44:49Speaker 3: You stayed up as the bad and no any good one.
- 44:52Speaker 3: You and Lily got mixed up that ten moves ago.
- 44:55Speaker 2: We did not now where's Park? You better tell me?
- 44:57Speaker 2: You better tell him last week.
- 44:59Speaker 3: I cannot control him when he gets like this?
- 45:04Speaker 2: What bad man?
- 45:08Speaker 4: Skinner and Willie doing yes, good Cop, bad Cop, but
- 45:12Speaker 4: constantly changing roles and now realizing messing with the flow Yes,
- 45:16Speaker 4: and Lisa being awfully amused.

- 45:47Speaker 2: is just hanging out by a river, mortgaging his future.
- 45:50Speaker 2: The joys of mortgaging his future, he says. And he
- 45:52Speaker 2: sees a silhouette and he thinks he's fantasy from before
- 45:55Speaker 2: with l I c O and has coming to life
- 45:56Speaker 2: and now it's two hoboes. Dear Barty boy, be so
- 46:00Speaker 2: scary as a kid.
- 46:03Speaker 4: Yeah, all do you respect love and everything to U?
- 46:07Speaker 4: People who are currently unhoused or anything like that? But yeah,
- 46:10Speaker 4: I think when you're a kid, you're a little scared
- 46:12Speaker 4: of them, and yeah, for them to then hit you
- 46:14Speaker 4: with the other barrel of like I want to see there, Baddy,
- 46:17Speaker 4: not good?
- 46:18Speaker 2: No, no no. Then Skinner thinks, well, he's at the
- 46:21Speaker 2: Springfield History Museum, and he thinks he's got to be
- 46:23Speaker 2: because where else would a kid be? Where where else
- 46:25Speaker 2: would you go? I was a child, where would I go?
- 46:28Speaker 2: I'd be right here. I've got you now, Simpson, Mom,
- 46:30Speaker 2: I'm so out of touch. Yeah no, it's not quite yes,
- 46:32Speaker 2: but he gets he gets into the matinee of the
- 46:34Speaker 2: R rated Triple Feature. I love the Triple Feature as well,
- 46:38Speaker 2: just the idea of being out in town when when
- 46:40Speaker 2: you're ten, right bart being out in town when everyone
- 46:44Speaker 2: else is at working at school. It's like I've got
- 46:46Speaker 2: the town to myself. You know, i can do what
- 46:48Speaker 2: I want. I'm seeing all these things that happen during
- 46:50Speaker 2: the day that wouldn't necessarily happen on the weekend because
- 46:52Speaker 2: there's more people around here. Just going to the matinee show,
- 46:55Speaker 2: go into the auction house, that kind of stuff that
- 46:58Speaker 2: is growing up stuff when you're a kid. But it's cool.
- 47:00Speaker 2: It's like I wouldn't normally get to do this. I'm
- 47:02Speaker 2: going to do it. No, the whole world that actually
- 47:04Speaker 2: exists while I'm doing my maths yeah nine to three
- 47:09Speaker 2: in Yeah, in the classroom. See that. In Australia we
- 47:13Speaker 2: say maths. That's true. We say we say maths and
- 47:17Speaker 2: we say sport. Yes, I say sports, that's right. Yeah, yes,
- 47:21Speaker 2: you're right. Yeah, we'll discuss this. Who's right? I like,
- 47:24Speaker 2: I think we know? So he is not at the
- 47:28Speaker 2: at the museum, is he? That's not what bud. He's
- 47:32Speaker 2: going to the to the matinee, the matine of the
- 47:34Speaker 2: Triple Feature. But also he's not at the four H
- 47:36Speaker 2: Club either. Why there are no children here at the
- 47:39Speaker 2: four H Club either? Am I so out of touch?
- 47:43Speaker 1: No?
- 47:43Speaker 2: It's the children who are wrong. You know you're getting old.
- 47:47Speaker 2: There's there's key moments in the Simpsons where you realize, oh,
- 47:50Speaker 2: I'm I'm old now. So you watch this one, you go,
- 47:54Speaker 2: I've had a moment in my life where I've gone
- 47:57Speaker 2: is this bad or out of touch? Or is this good?
- 47:59Speaker 2: Way at It's the children are when you're blaming younger
- 48:02Speaker 2: people and you're going young people's haircuts or young people's
- 48:05Speaker 2: music is no good anymore. You go, oh, it's actually fine.
- 48:08Speaker 2: You're just old. You don't like you, you're old Grandpa
- 48:10Speaker 2: where he says, you know, it'll happen to you, It'll
- 48:12Speaker 2: happen to you that moment. I've experienced it, you know
- 48:15Speaker 2: it just I used to be with it. Now they've
- 48:18Speaker 2: changed what it was, and it's like, oh, oh yeah,
- 48:20Speaker 2: I'm so, I'm gone. Yeah, you're you're absolutely washed.
- 48:23Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a certain time in your life or you've
- 48:27Speaker 4: got enough energy and enough sort of drive to think
- 48:31Speaker 4: I'll try to keep up at the very least. Ll yeah, yeah,
- 48:34Speaker 4: and I'll probably embarrass the young people around me by saying, oh,
- 48:38Speaker 4: time to get jiggy with it, or oh is that.
- 48:40Speaker 2: Choogy or something? Well, man with the skateboard, you're trying
- 48:42Speaker 2: to use the slang or whatever. But then and I
- 48:45Speaker 2: found as I've reached the stage where it's like you're
- 48:48Speaker 2: using you're using that phrase, but you're using it wrong.
- 48:50Speaker 2: I know what you're using it for, but that's wrong.
- 48:53Speaker 4: Like I'm sure I've said this on one of the
- 48:55Speaker 4: shows recently, how either gen Z or Jen Alpha is
- 48:58Speaker 4: using the term out man. It's like, well, you're tired
- 49:02Speaker 4: you don't take a little nap. That's understandable you're young.
- 49:05Speaker 4: But no, it's like, no, they're fired up or angry
- 49:08Speaker 4: about something.
- 49:08Speaker 2: It's like, no, crashout means you're crashing out. It meant that.
- 49:12Speaker 2: It doesn't mean that anymore.
- 49:16Speaker 4: I imagine if I said to another another member of
- 49:19Speaker 4: Generation Exit, I'm like, oh, man, what a day.
- 49:20Speaker 2: I'm crashing out? Like, yeah, man, go take a light
- 49:24Speaker 2: out for twenty minutes. Understandable. They wouldn't say, really, what's
- 49:27Speaker 2: got you're so mad? We have a friend of our
- 49:29Speaker 2: ale it's got a friend and his mum is twenty
- 49:31Speaker 2: five the same the other next I said, oh, she's
- 49:34Speaker 2: she's just pretty young on these photos on Facebook, and goes, well,
- 49:36Speaker 2: she is young. I said, no, she's twenty five nicolarly goes,
- 49:38Speaker 2: she's nearly twelve years younger than us. I go, oh,
- 49:42Speaker 2: she's in the mid twenties and she's twelve years Like
- 49:44Speaker 2: she's more than a decade younger. Oh yeah, I'm getting old,
- 49:48Speaker 2: Like I'm at that point where I'm starting to realize,
- 49:50Speaker 2: oh no, you're nearly forty. Oh yeah, I'm actually I'm oldish.
- 49:55Speaker 2: Yeah old? What forty is where you start to get
- 49:57Speaker 2: we can start sort of being classified as getting old.
- 49:59Speaker 2: I think you're you're not old. Is that a bad thing?
- 50:02Speaker 2: But forty where you start going, oh, you're not young anymore?
- 50:05Speaker 2: Oh yeah, there's no turning back the clock.
- 50:07Speaker 5: No, I li.
- 50:09Speaker 2: The other day I caught up with a good friend
- 50:10Speaker 2: of mine, Liam. Do you have any bad friend? Because
- 50:12Speaker 2: they always seem to be good friends, which is great.
- 50:14Speaker 4: We have friends friends, you know who you are. I
- 50:20Speaker 4: view him very much as like a peer, even though
- 50:23Speaker 4: he is younger than me.
- 50:26Speaker 2: I just old pc Liam. Yeah, yeah, we have driver
- 50:30Speaker 2: conversations all that kind of stuff. I never feel like,
- 50:32Speaker 2: let me tell you a couple of things about life, shun.
- 50:35Speaker 2: But he mentioned his dad, and his dad's age is
- 50:37Speaker 2: pretty close to my age. Yeah, I mean his.
- 50:40Speaker 4: Dad even maybe a little older or not there. I'm
- 50:43Speaker 4: I'm probably knocking on the door of his dad's age.
- 50:45Speaker 4: Was like, oh oh boy, yeah, a bit bracing. But
- 50:50Speaker 4: you know, you're only as young as you feel.
- 50:51Speaker 2: Yeah, because we saw these like twenty two year olds
- 50:54Speaker 2: and they basically sort of I could tell that talking
- 50:56Speaker 2: to me like I'm an old guy, and I thought,
- 50:58Speaker 2: oh yeah, I felt like I was with them, and
- 51:01Speaker 2: I was like, oh, no, I'm the old guy. Yeah. Yeah, anyway,
- 51:05Speaker 2: I don't feel old, but I obviously am. Oh yeah, yeah.
- 51:09Speaker 4: I was listening to something the other day where they
- 51:11Speaker 4: were talking about I think it may be around forty when.
- 51:15Speaker 2: It almost like the that's the mortality of my life
- 51:18Speaker 2: is starting to hit me. I'm like halfway to death.
- 51:21Speaker 4: But no, you reach forty and it's kind of like, oh,
- 51:23Speaker 4: that's where I'm that's where you stop. I mean, your
- 51:25Speaker 4: body starts getting.
- 51:27Speaker 2: Older and all that. You have to start looking after yourself. Yeah,
- 51:29Speaker 2: but it's not it's not.
- 51:30Speaker 4: Like you're being immature or something like that. But it's like, yeah,
- 51:33Speaker 4: this is the this is the end stage of your development.
- 51:37Speaker 4: Unless you want to be very sort of deliberate about
- 51:39Speaker 4: you've peaked. Now I've got to learn more.
- 51:40Speaker 2: I have to you know, I've got to be curious
- 51:42Speaker 2: about the world. And yeah, you really should be. But oh,
- 51:45Speaker 2: it's tough on you're talking about that. But oh yeah,
- 51:48Speaker 2: because the children are wrong, well not getting honest's the
- 51:51Speaker 2: children who are wrong as usual, skinners on the ball,
- 51:55Speaker 2: but children are wrong. But is actually at the Springfort
- 51:58Speaker 2: auction House, Fombling the vacant lot and sold to the
- 52:01Speaker 2: small man with the running nose for two point three million,
- 52:03Speaker 2: and he runs off laughing. Then the man who also
- 52:06Speaker 2: bid two point one million runs off laughing. Do you
- 52:07Speaker 2: have any real bids? This is literally eBay. Now. I've
- 52:11Speaker 2: mentioned before, I think on the podcast where I sold
- 52:13Speaker 2: something recently, and then the guy messaged me about a
- 52:16Speaker 2: day later saying, hey, do you mind if we wait
- 52:18Speaker 2: until next Tuesday so I can pay because my payday?
- 52:20Speaker 2: And I go, yeah, sure, no worries mate, And it
- 52:22Speaker 2: got to Tuesday. Nothing. I see him a message on
- 52:24Speaker 2: Wednesday saying hey mate, what is you going to pay
- 52:26Speaker 2: for those? For those toys? And on Thursday he goes,
- 52:30Speaker 2: I don't want them anymore. I go, but you've won them,
- 52:32Speaker 2: and he goes, yeah, I found a cheaper price elsewhere
- 52:34Speaker 2: I went. But you've won the auction. I said, you
- 52:36Speaker 2: have to pay for him. He goes, yeah, Well if
- 52:37Speaker 2: you leave me negative feedback, I'll leave you negative feedback. Right.
- 52:40Speaker 2: Welcome to eBay in twenty twenty five, buddy, Facebook marketplace,
- 52:45Speaker 2: is this still available? Sure, tumbleweeds? Oh yeah, like what
- 52:48Speaker 2: the fuck? Man? Yeah? I mean I've been fortunate recently
- 52:52Speaker 2: in the there is no accountability now with purchasing things
- 52:55Speaker 2: on eBay or Facebook marketplace. Oh yeah, I mean I've
- 52:57Speaker 2: been lucky recently with Facebook Marketplace and two, like I've
- 53:01Speaker 2: had some semi regular buys of stuff that are put
- 53:04Speaker 2: up there. But yeah, also getting that thing about yeah,
- 53:06Speaker 2: they're hitting the table like is this still available? And
- 53:08Speaker 2: I'm like, yes it is. Are you interested? Hello? Where
- 53:14Speaker 2: are you? Who you account? Who dis The thing is though,
- 53:18Speaker 2: what really annoys me is Nicholas sold a porticott last week, right,
- 53:21Speaker 2: and the person said, I'm going to be coming. I
- 53:23Speaker 2: can only come at nine to forty five in the
- 53:24Speaker 2: morning after drop the kids off from school, blah blah blah.
- 53:26Speaker 2: Can you make sure someone's available? Like cool? So I
- 53:28Speaker 2: changed my schedule around, made sure I was home this
- 53:31Speaker 2: and that and the other didn't I was going to
- 53:32Speaker 2: go out and do something, I guess like ten o'clock.
- 53:34Speaker 2: A message Nichola saying they haven't come yet, and a
- 53:36Speaker 2: person writes back at ten thirty saying, oh, yeah, I
- 53:38Speaker 2: bought it efery one yesterday, so not only did not
- 53:41Speaker 2: buy it, but it even tell us Yeah. So I
- 53:43Speaker 2: lost like an hour and a half of my morning
- 53:45Speaker 2: waiting for this person to go, I bought another one
- 53:47Speaker 2: yesterday's no thanks, I've changed my mind. Honestly, should we
- 53:51Speaker 2: start the channel we were talking about called don't want
- 53:54Speaker 2: to get demonetized. But shit's fucked and just you know
- 53:58Speaker 2: I have these gripes. Yeah, I mean literally ruined by morning.
- 54:02Speaker 2: I was so annoyed. I went, I don't mind it,
- 54:04Speaker 2: you're not buying it, but tell me, yes, you bought
- 54:06Speaker 2: something you knew yesterday too. Why, George Costanza, we live
- 54:11Speaker 2: in a society people. Ah, anyway, when time is so precious.
- 54:16Speaker 2: I'm nearly forty. Time is precious, tell me about it.
- 54:21Speaker 2: So yeah, just there needs to be more accountability for
- 54:23Speaker 2: people on my marketplace, going, well, you need to like
- 54:26Speaker 2: some people say you need to live deposit before they'll
- 54:28Speaker 2: do pending. I understand that now. I used to say, well, no,
- 54:31Speaker 2: I'm not giving you a deposit. You might just keep
- 54:34Speaker 2: my money. It's like no, no, they've obviously been screwed around.
- 54:36Speaker 4: Yeah here's the thing I sold. You had some Blu
- 54:39Speaker 4: rays to this guy and West in Australia the other
- 54:40Speaker 4: day and paid instantly and then he saw, oh you've
- 54:45Speaker 4: got these other ones. Yeah, okay, I'll take those as well,
- 54:47Speaker 4: and it was like too late for me to go
- 54:49Speaker 4: to the post office. I'd say it, said okay, look
- 54:51Speaker 4: first thing to Moro, will take care of that, and
- 54:52Speaker 4: then I couldn't do it.
- 54:53Speaker 2: That morning. I felt so guilty because he paid me. Yeah,
- 54:56Speaker 2: I was like, yeah, I mean, I've got to get
- 54:58Speaker 2: this stuff to him as soon as possible, I felt.
- 55:00Speaker 2: But yet to Jack at first, well natural ship to
- 55:04Speaker 2: do the priorities. Yeah, finally got it sent off and
- 55:08Speaker 2: all that kind of isn't you know? That was a
- 55:10Speaker 2: load off my mind. But yeah, I can't get my
- 55:13Speaker 2: head around people who were like, oh no, I bought
- 55:16Speaker 2: another one or I'm not telling you. Yeah, yeah, anyway,
- 55:19Speaker 2: But Homer and Bart is where we talked about earlier.
- 55:21Speaker 2: They see each other. How do you do, sir? It's
- 55:23Speaker 2: always the great Dancy's voice of I don't know, the
- 55:28Speaker 2: posh voice. Yeah yeah. But then Skinner finds a spore.
- 55:31Speaker 2: Do you know what a spore is? Hmm? A spore
- 55:35Speaker 2: refers to a track, trail or sent left by an animal,
- 55:38Speaker 2: which could be used to follow or identify them. Who
- 55:40Speaker 2: finds Bart's double mint bubblegum? Here? Trying to double your fun? Simpson?
- 55:45Speaker 2: How about to double your detention, which you're mentioning earlier.
- 55:48Speaker 2: Skinner now says that we enter end game, which now
- 55:51Speaker 2: endgame is obviously Avengers. Now, isn't its Endgameers like, oh,
- 55:55Speaker 2: it's the Avengers movie. Yeah, I mean it was always
- 55:57Speaker 2: a great phrase to you. Yeah, I mean it's yes,
- 56:00Speaker 2: term of course, but yeah, I mean, yeah, it just
- 56:02Speaker 2: sounds like now we're at an endgame. She just got realized. Yeah,
- 56:07Speaker 2: it really did. Bart sees him as he walks out
- 56:09Speaker 2: of the ice cream store and bales. We got a
- 56:11Speaker 2: great montage year of just Bart running away. Now he's
- 56:13Speaker 2: a clip here. I'm pretty sure they say the commentary.
- 56:15Speaker 2: I forgot to revisit the commentary for this review. I apologize,
- 56:18Speaker 2: but I'm pretty sure him running down the cliff face
- 56:20Speaker 2: or and then the grassy field of the mountain was
- 56:22Speaker 2: taken from Camp Rusty when the Rocks were chasing after them,
- 56:24Speaker 2: But then it just included Bart. I've heard about that
- 56:26Speaker 2: as well. I'm pretty sure that it's reused stock footage.
- 56:29Speaker 2: Yeah for that because they wanted to pad it out
- 56:30Speaker 2: a bit. Nothing wrong with that, No, nothing wrong with
- 56:32Speaker 2: it at all. And yeah, so then we get him
- 56:34Speaker 2: cutting the bridge behind it is that reference or anything?
- 56:36Speaker 2: Cutting the bridge? I know he's got a T one thousand.
- 56:40Speaker 2: It is it just the terminator this part here it
- 56:42Speaker 2: feels more Terminator too. It doesn't really feel like Arnold.
- 56:45Speaker 2: It feels more like Robert Patrick's Team one thousands. It does.
- 56:48Speaker 4: Yeah, and the bit with Bart cutting the bridge, it,
- 56:53Speaker 4: I don't know, it feels like it could be anything.
- 56:54Speaker 4: I got Indiana Jones and the yeah. Yeah at the
- 56:57Speaker 4: end with the prepared ye was that Yeah, that's when
- 57:01Speaker 4: he's hold out the sword and shit.
- 57:03Speaker 2: Yeah, good movie. We revisited that, didn't we review A
- 57:07Speaker 2: Temple Doom. I don't know if we did. I'm pretty
- 57:10Speaker 2: sure we touched on it for some reason, and I
- 57:12Speaker 2: was just like, this is incredibly racist this movie. But
- 57:17Speaker 2: it was nineteen eighty four. Yeah, I love that movie.
- 57:20Speaker 2: It's not a kids movie though at all. No, No, well,
- 57:24Speaker 2: pretty much responsible for the PG thirteen rating, was it, really? Yeah?
- 57:28Speaker 2: I think that in Gremlins, Yeah, because Kremlin is not
- 57:31Speaker 2: a kids movie. No, I've got some kind of gruesome
- 57:33Speaker 2: stuff in it. And yeah, before you had the in
- 57:36Speaker 2: America at least with their rating system, you had PG
- 57:38Speaker 2: and you had AH. So it's funny you look back
- 57:41Speaker 2: at like the seventies and early eighties, Jaws was PG,
- 57:44Speaker 2: I believe so, yeah, or that that would have been
- 57:46Speaker 2: R right. Oh no, I'm pretty sure it was PG. Really.
- 57:49Speaker 4: I was about to say, you go back to the
- 57:51Speaker 4: seventies and early eighties and you look at stuff that's
- 57:53Speaker 4: rated PG, it's like, wow, what Kuberama rated?
- 57:56Speaker 2: Well, that's an R rated feature.
- 57:59Speaker 1: Yeah, guy, he is like some sort of man giving
- 58:06Speaker 1: up school guy.
- 58:09Speaker 2: There must have been an original line there, because his
- 58:12Speaker 2: mouth does not sync up in any way with non
- 58:15Speaker 2: giving up school guy. His mouth like all over the place. Well,
- 58:18Speaker 2: did you do a bit of lip reading? It's animated.
- 58:21Speaker 2: I can't really tell. I thought it might have been
- 58:23Speaker 2: a deleted scene. We're going to touch on some deleted
- 58:25Speaker 2: scenes in just a few moments, but it was no
- 58:26Speaker 2: deleted scene there. I thought maybe they tweak something. But
- 58:28Speaker 2: then he's climbing the cliff face. It looks down it's
- 58:30Speaker 2: his Skinner climbing after him. Pretty cool front on shot
- 58:32Speaker 2: of Skinner. He's coming after him with the terminator. He
- 58:34Speaker 2: hides behind that rock and just as the car is
- 58:36Speaker 2: driving Passkin is about to pounce on him, and we
- 58:38Speaker 2: realize that Bart has jumped in the car because they
- 58:40Speaker 2: planted the seat a bit earlier, that Freddy Quimby was
- 58:42Speaker 2: driving around in his car correct and has now jumped
- 58:45Speaker 2: in the back. I'm not paying you to talk. They
- 58:51Speaker 2: arrive at the Quimby Compound. I love the idea of
- 58:54Speaker 2: being a compound. It's not just Squimby residents, it's the
- 58:56Speaker 2: quick compound. Yeah, Freddy burst through the the hedge and
- 59:01Speaker 2: displays the Quimby with that's one the public's hard by
- 59:04Speaker 2: grabbing a football and chucking in the punch. Such good lines.
- 59:09Speaker 2: It's such a dickhead. It is such a good line.
- 59:12Speaker 4: I am sure that both of you and I know
- 59:14Speaker 4: someone who would probably do something like that at a
- 59:17Speaker 4: party to announce their presence.
- 59:18Speaker 2: Yeah, guess what the party? Time to get the party started,
- 59:21Speaker 2: because I'm here and in their minds are what a dickare.
- 59:24Speaker 2: But but just like we're clapping like everybody else. Nice one.
- 59:27Speaker 2: We've always been a fan. He of this scene of
- 59:29Speaker 2: the people who get splashed by the punch first and foremost,
- 59:32Speaker 2: and they clearly bothered by it. They've got fans in
- 59:34Speaker 2: their face, and he says a line and they smile
- 59:36Speaker 2: and it's like these people here all come across like
- 59:39Speaker 2: people who have been paid to be there. Because Quimby introduces,
- 59:44Speaker 2: that's my nephew, Freddy. What's Freddy's eighteenth birthday? Why is
- 59:48Speaker 2: this person there? Freddy Quimby? So I feel like, just
- 59:51Speaker 2: to make just the Boosty's ego, the Quimby has just
- 59:53Speaker 2: hired people to be there. It's the social event of
- 59:55Speaker 2: the season, I'm sure, so they need to pad the numbers.
- 59:58Speaker 2: Mate bumps into Quimby. Who are you, little boy? He says,
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: he's his long lost nephew. I think, but but but
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: deleted scene hit me all right? So after this, Quimby
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: then introduces he goes, oh, well you know my mother
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: or your name? Introduces Daisy right, an old relative his mum,
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: who gets around in one of those devices like a
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: dalek but it's like the whole bodies in the and
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: in the so like a portable iron lung. Yeah, that
- 1:00:21Speaker 2: kind of thing. And Bart speaks to her and she
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: responds via the beep sounds okay, So he says, you know,
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: what's your favorite cartoon? Beep road Run? I hate? But
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: then she actually speaks and says, can you get me
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: a piece of cake. It adds nothing. It's not funny.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: It's so bizarre. And she has been introduced in later
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: episodes as not in this state. She's She's just a woman, right,
- 1:00:40Speaker 2: an etherly woman. And I'm glad that deleted deleted sends
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: usually deleted for a reason, this one, this one no good.
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: It's as usually been absolutely completely deleted, not even including
- 1:00:51Speaker 4: deleted scene. Yeah, but forget it existed.
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: But then sees ran Nei wolf Castle, but he doesn't
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: call him Randy wolf Castle. He calls Hi Big Bain.
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: I love that he's Big Bane. Maybe Bane your last
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: movie suck screwed problems from day one, Wigan says, the Magicicket,
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: My ask meic Bane. This is one of those moments
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: I was talking touching on earlier, where as a kid,
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: it's just funny here and Wigham say Magicket, Big Bane.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: He's like, oh my mind, your heart is breaking. You
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: feel like it's that's as funny, but it's a Last
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: Action Hero reference. It really is. Yeah.
- 1:01:19Speaker 4: Oh they've gone yeah, they've gone pretty deep on it,
- 1:01:20Speaker 4: because yeah, Last Hero, Last Action Hero came out in
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: ninety three, and I was kind of like, oh, it's
- 1:01:26Speaker 4: such a weird movie. It's me against Jurassic Park, and
- 1:01:28Speaker 4: I'm going to take it down because he was kind
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: of untouchable at that stage. I mean, he's coming off
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: Terminator Too. Had he done Junior or Twins yet?
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: He's done Twin okay, and maybe even Kindergarten Cop was
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: two Yeah, yeah, yeah, so he's he's riding high because yeah,
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: Twins did really well. Terminator Too was a big hit,
- 1:01:46Speaker 2: so I was. Kindergarten Cop was twenty two? Was that
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: was ninety two? Wasn't it ninety one? Yeah? Yeah, Kindergart
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: and Copper success. That means happy. But I like that movie.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: I don't mind it. E that's pretty good.
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: And I was thinking where if I can buy action
- 1:02:01Speaker 4: and comedy the two things I am excelling out or
- 1:02:03Speaker 4: the audience will love it.
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: And yeah, you're right.
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: Last Action Hero is a weird movie, but it's got
- 1:02:09Speaker 4: all this terrific talent involved. Directed by John mc tinnan,
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: who they die hard, and I know it's sort of
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: been reclaimed a bit lately. It's like, oh yeah, that
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: sense of him we thought was weird in ninety three
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: is now kind of ready for it.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it's what we do now.
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: But I remember in this great article about the making
- 1:02:25Speaker 4: of Last Action Hero and yeah, they talk about script
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: problem from day one, I really did.
- 1:02:30Speaker 2: Yeah, and they sort of brought on all these other people,
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: these high profile writers to try and fix it up,
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: and they kept adding stuff and adding stuff, and it
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: was like too many different voices. Yeah, you've a.
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: House designed by like seven architects, and so no wonder
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: audience was going.
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: Wait one, now the Star Wars new sequels pretty much.
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, so I love Yeah. I just thought that
- 1:02:53Speaker 4: was a really really nifty shout out and just get
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: great work with my mundy heart is breaking. It would
- 1:02:58Speaker 4: be in the hum view because yeah, am was driving
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: around in humbies all the time, as well as like, yeah,
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: this is the only cub big enough for the Austrian oak.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: Yeah, and his wife was Maria at the time. And
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: his wife was Maria Shreiber, who was Kenadi adjacent because
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: it wasn't it through marriage or something. Yeah, so it's
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: now time for I've got here lunch. But we have
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: a line letter in an episode. We might as well
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: touch on it now. Moe gets paid off, right and
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: he goes Freddie Kumbi was with me for the entire
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: night in question, wasn't his party during the day? It wasn't.
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: But wasn't this a daytime thing? How did Yeah, it
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: doesn't make any sense, that's true, and didn't really there
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: was no night in the question. It was daytime. Hell
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: was part at this party? Why is it dinner time now?
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: And but I go home at nighttime? It's just anyway,
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: so it's time for dinner or whatever, and we get
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: the chowder. At the moment, I want to stop him said,
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: I want to stop using the word iconic because there's
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: there's too many iconic moments in the Simpson That word
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: it gets thrown around too much, lends robbed off of me.
- 1:03:56Speaker 2: The word iconic, right, But when it comes to moments
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: of people member from the Simpsons, the chowder is pretty
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: up there. It very much is. Yeah, and for good reason,
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: I really love just how much of a dickhead Freddie
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: Quimby is oh just the chow dare chow chowtter? Say
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: it right? You can't, you can't. You gotta get fullgret
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: to Dan see here, right, he made this moment. But
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: when the the waiters like, I've had enough, I'm not
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: through demeaning you. Is does the ultimate heel dickhead line,
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: I'm not through demeaning you. Get back here.
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: I think you'll find a lot of people who'll say
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: they judge the quality of another person by how they
- 1:04:35Speaker 4: treat weight staff. Yeah, I mean you have been to
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: a restaurant.
- 1:04:39Speaker 2: We touched on it recently on one of our podcasts.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: It might have been a passion of the jew where
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: it's the things you can get away with. I'm not
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: get away, but the looking after local businesses, supporting local
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: business right, being nice of them, and you'll the karma
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: will come back to you. I think might have been
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: talking about Leila of Varone we're talking about, which is
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: exclusively on our Patreon. You have not heard that or yet?
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: It means you know supports on patreons, so please do so,
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: please do so. We review every episode of Futurama, Seinfeld,
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: King of the Hill. What else do we do on
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: there Berger's bobs Pods. We talk about so many shows
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: and in such great detail and such great depth, and
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: such great insight and wit and all that good stuff.
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: But I often I often share this meme on the
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: page when it's Christmas time or what of it's busy time,
- 1:05:23Speaker 2: Be kind to retail staff, Oh sure, because they aren't
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: your enemy. They are just trying to get through life,
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: pay those bills, and they are the middle mare between
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: you getting your product right and between the business and
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: you get your products. So just be kind to them.
- 1:05:36Speaker 2: They will look after you if you are nice and polite.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: I guarantee you probably eight out of ten people that
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: go to these places are probably shit customers who are
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: rude and expect to expect that the whole world revolves
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: around them. If you are kind and polite to these
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: retail staff, or just waiters or anyone in general, they
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: will go the extra mile for you. I love good cliche,
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: as listeners of the show will realize, but there are
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: a few that sort of very much apply to the situation.
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: One of it is you catch more flies with honey
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: than with vinegar, to which the response is, why do
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: you want to catch flies? Or just don't be a dick.
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: Dick is a really good one.
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: But also this is one they get to use a lot.
- 1:06:12Speaker 4: It's right up there with you know, live, laugh, love,
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: but you know, but you see it a lot when
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: people are you know, having a dark knight of the
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: soul and posting stuff on social media, basically saying be kind.
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: Everyone is fighting a battle you don't know about. It's
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: a bit corny and a bit cheesy ingredients of good chowder,
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: one might say, but it's very very true. The person
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: behind the count who is kind of like, yeah, not
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: giving you their a game or one hundred percent, or
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: don't have their game face on.
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: They've had a bad day. They may well be having
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: a shit day, had a bad day. Who's saying that?
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: That was Daniel? Oh, I want to say bedding Fee Yeah,
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: benningfod Yeah, and attaches your sister. Yeah that's right. Yes,
- 1:06:55Speaker 2: what a power couple of siblings there.
- 1:07:00Speaker 4: Uh yeah, but yeah, anyone who treats weight staff badly
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: especially it's like, you know, bring me more more wine,
- 1:07:08Speaker 4: more more chowder or whatever.
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: Yeah, you kind of it's Daniel Powdered, by the way,
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: not Daniel Beddingfield. I just want to make sure the power.
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: It was Daniel. Somebody's Daniel Powder. Yeah, there is a
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: Daniel Beddingfield. It is, Yes, who did not sing bad
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: Daniel Power, who has probably only ever had that one hits.
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: It turns out it's just like an icon. But he's
- 1:07:28Speaker 2: like you made that. Someone then you had a lot
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: of bad days. He's listening to this podcast, going, it's me,
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: it's me, it's powder. Right, you nailed it. You did
- 1:07:43Speaker 2: really well there. But yeah, that's all I say.
- 1:07:48Speaker 4: Just yea, treat your weight stuff well, because it's an
- 1:07:50Speaker 4: indication of a low quality human being someone who Yeah, look,
- 1:07:55Speaker 4: if you're getting bad service by all means you maybe
- 1:07:58Speaker 4: don't leave a tip or.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: There's a reason you got spit in your food because
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: you're being a dickhead. That's Yeah. We've all watched five
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: Club and like, yeah, better be nice to wait stuff.
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: There's one thing to take from that film. It's be
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: nice to wait stuff. That's the main takeaway from fire Club. Yeah,
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: there's nothing else in there. Four figure discount is brought

- 1:08:43Speaker 2: figure discount. Bro Freddie Quimby he was not nice to
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: this guy. He tries to leave, I'm not through demeaning you,
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: so you get follows after him, and I particularly also
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: love the guy to the I think it's to his
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: left as we're looking at Freddy, he just looked at
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: him a bit of a sign out like, oh shit. Yeah.
- 1:08:59Speaker 2: I love how they.
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: Don't really sort of do too many cutaways or anything
- 1:09:02Speaker 4: like that, but they Yeah, they're making it fairly fairly clear.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: Everyone thinks Freddy is kind of a penis out of
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: a line, out of line here. There is no need
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: for this, This is no need for this. Yeah, but
- 1:09:14Speaker 2: just yeah.
- 1:09:15Speaker 4: I initially wrote down just it's chowder, because that's just
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: very funny. But I've got sort of like subsets underneath that. Yeah,
- 1:09:21Speaker 4: one of those I'm not through demeaning you, which is hilarious,
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: I think, Yeah, probably my favorite out of all. It's
- 1:09:26Speaker 4: just when he's following me to the kid say it frenchly, chow,
- 1:09:32Speaker 4: you're so terrible.
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: Editing that the guy attempts it showed, and it's it's
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: the face to laugh as well. Ha ha ha, chow
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: dear show there. It's great work by dancing because he
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: sort of telegraphed that laugh and it's the first thing
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: you hear from Freddie when you when bart season outside
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: the Windows just ha ha.
- 1:09:55Speaker 4: Yeah, can you believe I got all this the fifth
- 1:09:58Speaker 4: grad Great, that's great. Sorry, I want to make him
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: more of an achiever than he actually was.
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: But all that in that ten seconds, it's just as
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: acting from Dan See on another level. Honestly, very good.
- 1:10:12Speaker 2: How many how many characters he's He's appeared in several
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: episodes throughout, but in the Golden Era, this was He's
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: a one He's one time character in regards to the
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: Golden Era, right, Freddy Quimby, Yes, but he packs so
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: much punch in that fifteen seconds. Oh goodnessly shit.
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: Now, whether it's the era that you know we were
- 1:10:29Speaker 4: watching it in and you know we sorry, there is
- 1:10:32Speaker 4: season five, so you know we're kind of in the
- 1:10:35Speaker 4: midst of the.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: Gold Rusher and this is a really good era. Yeah,
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: it just felt like an embarrassment of riches, didn't it.
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: They were getting all these wonderful, wonderful characters. Yeahan Scorpia
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: has another one. Frank Grime's another one. But I think
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: Freddy Quimby as much as he's a dickhead, you just
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: have to love it. Oh, because he doesn't care. Yeah,
- 1:10:52Speaker 2: everybody loves a good heel and this guy's, this guy's
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: are spectacular. Yeah, because at the end of the day,
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: he didn't really do anything wrong. It's just it was rude. Yeah. No,
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: he's just horrible. But he's dead. But he's not a criminal.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: No.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: But Bart sneaks into the kitchen, he finds the biggest
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: Rice Krispy Square he's ever seen, text a bite out
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: of it. Then Freddy and the way to enter, and
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: we hear him getting attacked, and we just we hear it.
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: We see the silhouettes. Bart's watching it.
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: Say it friendship, Jay Chowder Liver real Okay, he wears
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: for it.
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: I'm gonna enjoy this, gets got it.
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: And then enters afterwards and initially is more shocked by
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: the fact that Rice Christie Square has a bite out
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: of it, and then it turns out the way it's
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: being probably beaten as well. DeLand the scene. Oh okay,
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: after that moment, this scene actually went a little bit longer.
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: After he says that, the woman next to him says,
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: I actually heard him. I actually heard Freddy arguing with
- 1:11:55Speaker 2: him over the chowder, and he says, what does that
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: argue about? Can we all just agree it's a delicious
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: sea food bisk And then the waiter on the floor
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: goes so he says it differently. I think it's important
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: that that's as funny as it is, you have to
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: cut it out. It's surplus to requirements because you're explaining
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: it's a pretty good gag. I guess I can hear,
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: you know, Wigham saying it's it's a delightful cheap food bish. Yeah,
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: because they I think this episode wants you to think
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: that Freddye Quiby is actually guilty throughout right, because we
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: don't we don't, we don't know what's happening. No, you
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: wouldn't have it the way it is if there was
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: no sort of element of doubt about it. I think
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: it's hard to have any sympathy for the waiter if
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: he's talking back to Wigham, it just it makes him
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: come across like, oh, he's a smart ass too.
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: Yeah, not that we're blaming the victim or anything like that,
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: but yeah, I mean it's it does. Oh, it's a
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: pattern of behavior. He's sort of this guy's a perpetual
- 1:12:55Speaker 4: bear poker, just.
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: As bad as each other, and we don't want that
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: mentality throughout the episode. But come back from commercial, marges
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: reading the paper that you mentioned earlier. Could we be
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: nephew charge in beating Chowder said wrong? Marge says that
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: she hopes he gets what's coming to him, but Bar
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: claims he's innocent. I tell you he's innocent. And even
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: though there were no witnesses, but I'm surprised no one
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: and a crowded party saw what happened there. And he says,
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: didn't you read it? No witnesses? Case closed? And then
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: he reads the funnies, and what does he see in
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: the Funnies? Well, Charlie Brown says, good grief. Yeah, who
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: saw that coming. But back on the prison bus, I'm
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: glad didn't go back to the school bus. It's still
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: the prison bus.
- 1:13:31Speaker 4: Just a quick sort of sidebar thought experiment. Whatever wouldn't
- 1:13:36Speaker 4: you love it if you had a creative team like
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: the caliber of say, vintage Simpsons.
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: It's What's world? Akonda O'Brien, Yeah, made the pitch to
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: the Charles Schultze State and did like an animated Simpsons
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: era Simpsons vintag Eira style Peanuts show. Wasn't there a
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: Peanuts show? Yeah? There were, but I mean it's not
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: primetime TV. Yeah, I imagine you could. You could have
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: made something really great they already did. I love the
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: I love the existing yeah Peanuts specials, But I think
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: it's going to particular crowd the Peanuts very I don't
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: hate you know it hipster, but like very hips. Actually
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: it might be right. I think it seemed too commercial
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: if it wasn't had that.
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: Actually, yeah, don't cut any of this out. I'm going
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: to own my mistake. It's not even a mistake really,
- 1:14:23Speaker 4: but yeah, you're right. It wouldn't be as much of
- 1:14:26Speaker 4: a cultural phenomenon as something like the Simpsons, but it
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: would be much loved.
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: You know that. I'm a real sort of nerd, and
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: I love the movies of Wes Anderston. That's it.
- 1:14:35Speaker 4: It'd be It'd be his audience that would really dig
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: a well done Peanuts show, because you know, I think
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: Anderson has thrown like the VINSCAROLDI music into comple visits.
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: Citizens have used it. Oh yeah, absolutely, yeah, you're right,
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: it would be. It would be a cult hit. Yeah,
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: Charlie band is still Peanuts is one of those things,
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: if you know, you know, kind of thing. You don't
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: see people talking about Peanuts anymore. Snoopy used to be everywhere.
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: It used to be used to be merch everywhere. This
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: sounds silly, I know, but I remember Macis had a
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: thing Snoopy around the world thing going once where, like
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: every country had their own version of Snoopy and it
- 1:15:09Speaker 2: was like Stiffy with sombre fifty different. This is before
- 1:15:12Speaker 2: pop vinyls, you know, fift different Snoopies a getting happen
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: me here. He had to go McDonald's all these times
- 1:15:16Speaker 2: to collect all these various snoopies. Great marketing campaign, but
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: when it comes like I knew about Snoopy, but I
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: didn't really know much about Peanuts. I knew who Snoopy was,
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: but I didn't have any idea who Charlie Brown and
- 1:15:25Speaker 2: all that was because it wasn't really a huge thing. Okay,
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: yeah that makes sense. But as nineties kids got older like,
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: oh yes, Charlie brand Christmas, and yeah, it's cool to
- 1:15:34Speaker 2: not because it's not a everyone knows everyone knows Peanuts,
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: but it's not on the level of Simpsons, is what
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: I'm trying to say. Right, Yeah, if you said to
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: my mum, what do you know about Peanuts, you'd go,
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: Snoopy is in it. That's all she'd know. Okay, But yeah,
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: I just think it's it's kept that cool factor because
- 1:15:48Speaker 2: it's not on the level of Simpsons. So the hipster crowd, okay,
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: where you're coming from here, But anyway, back on the
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: prison bus and Bart comes clean to Lisa. He has
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: to get off his chest. He has to tell somebody,
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: so he confides in Lisa he knows a freak, the
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: frog waiter got whacked, right, And she tells him where
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: you have to come clean. You have to tell it
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: because he's innocent. You can't let him go to prison.
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: And she says, well, why can't you tell anybody? A
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: Q skin at the window saying once he proves it,
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: he was shipping him off to Christian military reform school
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: and buzzes what he said, right my notes, Yeah, I
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: get why Bart said this line. I get why Swartzweater
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: wrote this line of the I saw the frog waiter
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: get whacked, right, But in the grand scheme of things.
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: For the sake of the story. You need that line
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: there because you need as a viewer to think that
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: some well someone beat up the waiter. Yeah, it's revealed
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: at the end he just slipped and hurt himself. But
- 1:16:34Speaker 2: if Bart saw it all unfolding, why would he say
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: the frog waiter got whacked Because he knows he didn't
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: get whacked. Right, It suits the It suits the story
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: and what they want stage story at that time, they
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: wanted to lead us. But it makes no sense that
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: Bart would actually say the line the frog wader got
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: whacked because you know he didn't get whacked. It's a
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: good point.
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: The main sort of nippick I had about it that
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: was like, I don't think Skinner's got the authorities ship
- 1:16:58Speaker 2: you want to another smiler point here, I'm like skinnic
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: and see people to other schools, like it can expel
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: you from that school. Yeah, but you know he felt like, no,
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: it's the parents would send you off to another school.
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: It could just be an empty threat trying to break
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: Bart and trying to break money games. Yes, yeah, but
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: little authority figures will do that to you. But Lisa says, well,
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: he is innocent. He'll be found not guilty by a
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: fair and impartial jury. Cut to them watching home open
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: jury duty of that Quimi kid hanging for this. But
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: then my man Scott Christian, he's in the studio because
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: Kate Brockman's out doing a live a live cross from
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: the courthouse, and there's a little bit here. So it
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: starts of awkwand just outside the country the county court room.
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: I love the little bit. You don't hear him say,
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: Kate Brockman, it's Aukman. Yeah, because sometimes they would cut
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: to people and they missed the start or their cues.
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: It's just a little thing. Yeah, you don't see it
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: as much these days. All though, it was very funny
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: the other night I was watching the ABC News and
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: they were talking about the trial that's captivated the world.
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: The whole is a mushroom trial thing. I know nothing
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: about us. No, she tried to. She made people lacing mushrooms.
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: Were deathcat mushrooms and the beef Wellington and then fed
- 1:18:04Speaker 4: it to her in laws. Three of them died O.
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: Great, not great. She had three in laws, um well
- 1:18:11Speaker 2: mother and father in law and maybe like like an aunt.
- 1:18:14Speaker 4: Or something sounds like a great person. Oh yeah, you
- 1:18:17Speaker 4: have people coming forward saying she's evil. In the year
- 1:18:22Speaker 4: twenty twenty five, we expect everything to run sort of
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: very very smoothly, hahha. But yeah, you say, he's normally
- 1:18:28Speaker 4: very slick and professional. They're like, we now, we cut
- 1:18:30Speaker 4: now to our story about Aaron Patterson, and it was
- 1:18:32Speaker 4: just like.
- 1:18:32Speaker 2: A goat a goat getting tricking milk. It was kind
- 1:18:37Speaker 2: of like home a bad memory. They had like a
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: freeze frame on something and like.
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: Good week movie.
- 1:18:48Speaker 4: We're like the no, but they sort of cut back
- 1:18:50Speaker 4: to the news reader who's clearly not flustered. It was like,
- 1:18:53Speaker 4: we'll returning to that story in just a moment.
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: You see, you know how professional, how good a someone
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: is that being a news reporter when they have to
- 1:18:59Speaker 2: make up for him mistake. Yeah, how they cover in
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: real time. Except then they like they cut to another
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: little bit and that kind of worked. It was like,
- 1:19:06Speaker 2: we now returned to that story already progress, yeah, and
- 1:19:09Speaker 2: then it sucked up again. Do you want getting We
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: will get to that story and that's a sport and yeah,
- 1:19:18Speaker 2: and it's the main.
- 1:19:19Speaker 4: Story that everybody's talking about, is the lead story in
- 1:19:21Speaker 4: the news. But yeah, I found that really funny, so
- 1:19:23Speaker 4: and it reminded me of thatman.
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: In that moment. Though, I feel like I, as a fewer,
- 1:19:28Speaker 2: would appreciate more if they took the mickey out of
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: themselves and made a joke about it as rather than go,
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: we've got things that are controlled. Don't worry, we're very
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: professional here. We'll get back to it at the moment,
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: just be like, well, I know what happened.
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: What are you gonna do?
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: I think when you're talking about the death of three
- 1:19:42Speaker 2: people and a woman being found guilty and going to
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: prison for probably the rest of our life, you go, oh, spaghettios.
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: But it comes back to wow, I didn't go, well.
- 1:19:58Speaker 4: Yeah, but no, I love it when Hen's out in
- 1:20:00Speaker 4: the field, and I very much liked what he was
- 1:20:02Speaker 4: doing here, especially when he lets his sort of professional
- 1:20:05Speaker 4: newsman uh pride and.
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: Because what do they call it? Well, he says, yeah,
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: behind these doors, a federal judge will laid it out
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: steaming bowls of rich, creamy justice, much like chatter in
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: a case the media have dubbed beat up waiter, and
- 1:20:20Speaker 2: he goes, ah, this way to this report is just
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: a way to gate but was shut it down at
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: the Press Club. Personally, Wait to Gate is better. I
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: don't even get what beat it beat Way to beat up, Waiter,
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: don't get it. But he tries to sneak in quiet
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: because it's a legal to broadcast, so we've got to
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: be very quiet. Yes, and they slammed the door. I
- 1:20:40Speaker 2: know you could read my boy yum yum yum yum
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: yum yom. So this scene here the miyam yam yah right,
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: absolutely baffling as to what the hell's going on when
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: you're keep watching this, if you're if you are outside
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: of the United States, you have no idea what's happening.
- 1:21:00Speaker 2: It's just the joke, is you think, oh home. It's
- 1:21:03Speaker 2: just so stupid that he's got nothing going on in
- 1:21:05Speaker 2: his mind except for a cat sound Yeah yeah, yeah yeah,
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: And he's so stupid that he's singing it in a tune.
- 1:21:10Speaker 2: This is actually a jingle for a brand called Miami
- 1:21:14Speaker 2: And have you actually listened to it? It's literally yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: yeah yeah yeah. I'm gonna play it for Have you
- 1:21:21Speaker 2: ever listened to it? Here's the thing when I first
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: watched this episode back in the day, it's like, I
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: know that tune, but they never you can ever bite
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: in Australia. No, that's the thing. I mean they must
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: have alluded to it on other shows or something like that,
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: or are you ready for it? Hit me? It makes
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: you want to dance. It's so good, so you'd under
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: stand way home, it would be like seeing it in
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: his head. That's just catching as hell. It's when the
- 1:21:54Speaker 2: music kiss kicks in, It's like, oh yeah, it's Georgie
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: and bouncing. It's a real thing. It really is as all.
- 1:22:03Speaker 4: Look, I won't say it ruined my brain, but it
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: kind of rewinded my brain in some ways because anytime
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: I hear like a really catchy ad jingle, now I
- 1:22:12Speaker 4: think of Don Draper pitching it.
- 1:22:13Speaker 2: Oh okay, yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah. This
- 1:22:18Speaker 2: yam yum yo yeah, yam yam.
- 1:22:19Speaker 4: Yao, Peggy Olsen kind of thing. You just imagine someone
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: at the ad agency because that I don't know if
- 1:22:29Speaker 4: that's fifties or sixties or seventies, what it is.
- 1:22:31Speaker 2: It's genius. It's genius. But imagine going to the client.
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: Imagine going to mister meow Mix. Yeah, could be missus
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: Meo Mix. Who knows, but you being in the guy
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: with the piano. But yeah, they build up a pretty
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: you know, good brand. We're selling a lot of cat food.
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: It's time to break on through to the next level.
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: How can we do that?
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: How can we really capture market share? Advertising guy comes in,
- 1:22:54Speaker 4: listen to this now.
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: Ma'am meam now meaom yao meo meaw meam meam maw
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: maw meow meo. And it keeps going, Oh yeah, how
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: would you be I mean, if you're that's a gamble, right, yeah,
- 1:23:07Speaker 2: if you're the head of if you're the CEO of
- 1:23:09Speaker 2: meow Mix, It's like, wow, are we going to go
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: all in on this? I think should we do it?
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: Let's do it? And it seems corny, but it clearly worked.
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: Oh god, yeah, yeah, because that's the Yeah. I didn't
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: know that it was Meo Mixed, but I knew the tune.
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: Even if I didn't know it was maybe like, you know,
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: someone of the TV networks had shown like some kind
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: of filler program is like crazy American ads or you
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: know these can you believe those crazy Americans? Is how
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: they sell capter now me, and you just sort of
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: pick up on that way because it was familiar, Okay,
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: even if I didn't know it was me. That's why
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: it's such a great reference. And the Simpsons did this
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: so well in the Golden Ere they had reference things
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: where you would go, this has to be something, yeah,
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: but it works just on the level of Homer stupid.
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: He's just singing yam yam y. That's funny enough as
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: a kid, right, it really is, right.
- 1:24:00Speaker 4: How many times have we said, yeah, a funny voice
- 1:24:02Speaker 4: just you know, gets you most of the way there.
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: It's South Park to a t right funny voices. But
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: the thing is the fact that it's actually a reference
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: you like, it makes it a funnier and on top
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: of that even better. I mean, Skinner has got his
- 1:24:16Speaker 2: very serious face because he's your asses mind, that's rights.
- 1:24:20Speaker 2: I would never say, that's right, you're cut off by home.
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: He's got exactly the same face. He's got his he's
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: got his serious during number two face. And you know
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: it's always I know you can hear my thoughts. It's
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: what it is.
- 1:24:38Speaker 4: It's a fantastic gag. I mean, it's as I'd like
- 1:24:42Speaker 4: to say, as smart as you need and as dumb
- 1:24:44Speaker 4: as you like. It's fantastic a lot of it. So
- 1:24:47Speaker 4: much the face, the face.
- 1:24:51Speaker 2: He looks worried but also very serious, like's so good,
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: like he's listening to you life and depth of the
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: situation in the courtroom. No, it's TV jingles. Yeah, and
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: that the face says that poker place all the way through. Uh,
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: we we love you, John Schwartzweld, we love this episode.
- 1:25:15Speaker 2: Then we have Matt Groening, he's the artist in the courtroom.
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: It just looks like Freddy Quimby because it's Matt Graining's design. Yeah,
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: and Nusse will throw it. He signs it. Yeah. Then
- 1:25:26Speaker 2: the lawyer claims that the waiter is a shady character
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: because he wasn't even bonn in this country. The press
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: run to the phone next time, you tell me everything.
- 1:25:38Speaker 2: I love those rebelations, like I'm not even wearing a tie.
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: I'm not wearing a tie at all. Then we have
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: most testimony. He says he was with Freddy Quimby the
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: entire night in question, which I've already discussed. It doesn't
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: really make much sense, but it was collecting can goods
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: for the people of one of those losers countries. Oh man,
- 1:25:56Speaker 2: then he's clearly innocent.
- 1:26:00Speaker 4: But someone says he has innocent looking hair. I think
- 1:26:03Speaker 4: that's it's either someone in the jewelry box or someone
- 1:26:06Speaker 4: in the Yeah, you hear a lot of that sort
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: of subtay Jay, It was clearly interest But you know,
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: I just say something real quickly about sorry, they're collecting
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: cans for people in those loser countries. When I went
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: to the cinema the other day to see Jurassic World Rebirth,
- 1:26:18Speaker 4: one of the ads they had beforehand was for you know,
- 1:26:23Speaker 4: everyone sort of collecting recyclable bottles these days, like you can.
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: Make some money off the seventy Yeah, that's the thing.
- 1:26:29Speaker 2: They made it like this. It was this little girl
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: who was collecting bottles on that and go. They made
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: her out to be.
- 1:26:33Speaker 4: This total girl boss who's like completely strutting around like
- 1:26:37Speaker 4: I took lose on Felix. We looked at this kid
- 1:26:40Speaker 4: made like three bucks.
- 1:26:41Speaker 2: Yeah, she shouldn't be the thing.
- 1:26:44Speaker 4: Look, however, we can make ends meet these days by
- 1:26:46Speaker 4: all means do so, but strutting around like yeah, check
- 1:26:49Speaker 4: out the girl.
- 1:26:50Speaker 2: Boy was like the made it also a bounces exactly.
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: I said to Nicola the other day, we're doing been
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: buying bottles because it's cheaper that way, buying by the bottle, right, yes,
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: our Pepsi max and all right, yeah, and we put
- 1:27:00Speaker 2: it through. You don't get as much because you go
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: to get ten cents for a bottle and ten cents
- 1:27:03Speaker 2: for a can. It doesn't matter the size, it's just
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: it's one thing, one item to get ten cents, right.
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: So I was like, oh, you didn't get much this
- 1:27:08Speaker 2: time because it was all bottles. But then, as Nicola
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: pointed out, yeah, but the bottles are cheaper to buy
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: in the first place, so if you buy the cans,
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: you're paying more than you're gonna get more when you
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: when you recycle them, but you're paying more in the
- 1:27:19Speaker 2: first place to get them in the house. So it
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: all works out the same logical gal I was like,
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: you might as well get the bottles. Might as well, yeah,
- 1:27:25Speaker 2: because it works at the bottles on Amazon were a
- 1:27:28Speaker 2: dollar twenty year later and the cans were two dollars ten.
- 1:27:30Speaker 2: I was like, you know what, I'm gonna do, bottles,
- 1:27:34Speaker 2: but yeah, so yeah, I do love watching those ads
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: for local businesses at the movies. They're always funny, Lou
- 1:27:40Speaker 2: said to me, because oh we should have an ad
- 1:27:43Speaker 2: why not? Oh not us? But me, I'm just saying
- 1:27:47Speaker 2: we should? Why actually? Yeah? Why not? Why not? Yeah?
- 1:27:53Speaker 2: We got some news while while we were recording this episode.
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: Can I talk about this? Hey? No, okay, fine. Some
- 1:28:01Speaker 2: listeners of the show, particularly patrons, may know that I
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: am just one to think that's where you would have
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: the button? Soon we have have you heard about this
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: that moment? Have you seen this? Were guys are having
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: sound drops and we're going to have the road cars
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: and guys gonna have his little button. So he's going
- 1:28:15Speaker 2: to be a lot of sound bites going this. Thep
- 1:28:16Speaker 2: the first is going to be full of them because
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: guys been like this one's fun. I'm going to insist
- 1:28:21Speaker 2: on the airhorn that goes. But yours truly has been
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: studying for a certificate in Celebrincy, which means I could
- 1:28:29Speaker 2: conduct weddings, funerals, other sort of ceremonies, not celibacy, not celibacy,
- 1:28:34Speaker 2: I could teach lessons.
- 1:28:37Speaker 4: But just been announced on an email saying guess what
- 1:28:42Speaker 4: you were passed the course you are now certified.
- 1:28:45Speaker 2: To do so satisfactory.
- 1:28:46Speaker 4: Yes, indeed, so I've got to put the shingle out
- 1:28:49Speaker 4: and say, guy Davis for all your funeral needs, and
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: the love of the Luise was saying, you should make
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: one of those ads that act that they blame the
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: sentiments and I'm.
- 1:28:55Speaker 2: Like, you planned to die soon? Have I got the
- 1:28:58Speaker 2: man for you? Is your mum on death's door? Let
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: me help, let me open it for it, and they
- 1:29:08Speaker 2: will blay, let my love open the door. We just
- 1:29:12Speaker 2: we just came up with that time fantastic. But anyway, yeah,
- 1:29:16Speaker 2: lou was saying, yeah, you should make one of those,
- 1:29:17Speaker 2: and I kind of considering. They tossed like five grand,
- 1:29:21Speaker 2: not considering it as much.
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: Now everyone wants to sort of get in on the
- 1:29:26Speaker 4: ground floor and help help about help a brother out.
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: I was going to do it years and years and
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: years and years ago when I thought that local advertising
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: would have made sense for the podcast when it doesn't actually,
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: but it was like, yeah, just five grand a month,
- 1:29:37Speaker 2: and I was like, I'd rather not, no, I'd rather
- 1:29:40Speaker 2: not just backed away into the hedge. But yeah, what on, sir,
- 1:29:45Speaker 2: thanks much? Been three months, been doing it six months,
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: six months, six months, Yeah, just over six months. You
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: should you got like emotional. Didn't you? I did a
- 1:29:54Speaker 2: little bit. It's been a big part of your life, hasn't.
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: It's been a lot of hard a lot of hard work. Indeed. Yeah,
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: it's just nice when you've put so much effort int
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: that you finally get the credit. Or it's like you
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: it's you knew you were going to pass. I mean
- 1:30:04Speaker 2: you've said that, like you're always you're never going to fail.
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: But it's just knowing it's actually happened. I've officially passed.
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: Now I can take the next step, take the next step, exactly,
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: because that's what life's all about, taking the next step.
- 1:30:14Speaker 2: It is indeed. Yeah, so Guy will not be on
- 1:30:16Speaker 2: the podcast after season twenty because he's too good for
- 1:30:18Speaker 2: this show. Now Mitch is making a comeback, which is like,
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: I ain't coming back to that shit. It's going to
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: be what do you say? It's in your what you know,
- 1:30:29Speaker 2: It's in my thoughts, listeners, Mitch, Mitch, Mitch, Mitch, Mitch, Mitch, Mitch, Mitch, Mitch,
- 1:30:34Speaker 2: Mitch Mitch. Four figure discount is brought to you by

- 1:31:05Speaker 2: then where were up to in the episode? So we
- 1:31:07Speaker 2: had the most most countries? Yes, yes, losing country, that's right.
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: Losing countries can can goods. Yeah, but Wickham hands in
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: the bags with the dollar signs, My laundry is done.
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: I just think it's funny to think that someone in
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: Cannon has gone to the effort of putting dollar signs
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: on the money bags just to make sure that mode
- 1:31:22Speaker 2: knows what that he's getting Money'd be pretty disappointing robbing
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: a bank and not having the dollar signs, right. It's
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: one of those things that's just it's done purely for
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: the visual factor. So when you're watching a TV show whatever, oh,
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: you know that there's money in there. But just I
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: meationine if you went to a bank and he grabbed
- 1:31:36Speaker 2: back and had dollars and this is the greatest. I
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: want to run around with the old bag it with
- 1:31:43Speaker 2: dollars on on it. Do you think, I know, would
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: you look stupid? Do you think do you think people
- 1:31:46Speaker 2: think when people think you just robbed the bank if
- 1:31:48Speaker 2: you walked around with a with a bag a dollars
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: on it.
- 1:31:51Speaker 4: I think maybe one percent of the population would think bad.
- 1:31:53Speaker 4: The others would go look at that, look at that
- 1:31:55Speaker 4: hipster sack.
- 1:31:56Speaker 2: But also, just as the Hamburgler, if you've got a
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: bandit mask, yes, people are naturally going to make that assumption.
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: But Bart says, look, he doesn't need my testimony anymore
- 1:32:06Speaker 2: because he's gonna win, And Lisa says that's because he's
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: buying his innocence and system works just as Klaus von Bulo. Yeah,
- 1:32:14Speaker 2: we're talking a bit about class, won Buelo. You go
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: for it. Yeah, I've already got you. Go for it, Okay.
- 1:32:18Speaker 2: Klass won Bulau was a British socialite who was accused.
- 1:32:21Speaker 4: Of murdering his wife. But yeah, Sunny von Bulo. By
- 1:32:24Speaker 4: way of an illegal injection of insulin.
- 1:32:27Speaker 2: She became a vegetable flight twenty years she was in
- 1:32:31Speaker 2: vegetive state, static state or something it's called along those lines. Yes, yeah,
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: and he was very much this sort of aristocratic type
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: and Lyle Lanley Yeah, and everyone was kind of like, oh,
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: but someone who speaks so well couldn't have done this
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: kind of thing.
- 1:32:46Speaker 4: And you know, and it was a very high the innocence.
- 1:32:49Speaker 4: Oh yeah, he has an innocent looking hair. Accept I
- 1:32:51Speaker 4: think he might have been bled. It was a very
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: high profile case. Von Bulo was represented by a gentleman,
- 1:32:59Speaker 4: Alan Dershowitz, was a very high profile lawyer. I made
- 1:33:01Speaker 4: a movie out of it called A Reversal of Fortune,
- 1:33:04Speaker 4: starring Jeremy's Iron as von Bulou. So yeah, it was
- 1:33:09Speaker 4: a pretty high perrafile case. But everyone sort of was
- 1:33:11Speaker 4: like it was like a precursor of something.
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: Like OJ where it was like, well, this guy clearly
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: did it right, but you can't prove it, improve it?
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: How can you not prove it?
- 1:33:20Speaker 4: Yeah, but there was also yeah, that thing of like
- 1:33:22Speaker 4: but he's he's sophisticated and all that kind of thing.
- 1:33:25Speaker 4: So you know, there was this weird cognitive dissonance, like
- 1:33:28Speaker 4: all the evidence is stacked up against him, but at
- 1:33:30Speaker 4: the same time so charming.
- 1:33:31Speaker 2: Yes, you get away with it. Yeah, but clearly. But
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: Freddy Quimby is one hundred innocent in this situation.
- 1:33:36Speaker 5: Though, ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to prove to you
- 1:33:39Speaker 5: not only that Freddy Quimby is guilty, but that he
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: is also innocent of not being guilty. I refer you
- 1:33:46Speaker 5: to my expert witness, doctor Hibbert.
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: Well, only one or two million people has what we
- 1:33:51Speaker 2: call the evil gene Hitler head it. Well, Disney heard it,
- 1:33:57Speaker 2: and Freddy Quimby head it. Thank you, doctor Herbert. I
- 1:34:01Speaker 2: rest my case. You rest your case. What? Oh no,
- 1:34:06Speaker 2: I thought that was just a figure of speech. Case closed,
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: Phil Hartmon Phil. Then are two points out that Homer
- 1:34:14Speaker 2: is asleep wearing the glasses, which is a nice little
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: sea plant for the ending of the episode.
- 1:34:17Speaker 5: Is it is?
- 1:34:18Speaker 2: It is? Yeah, Homer here is doing exactly what we
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: don't want to be doing in jury. Didy Right. It's
- 1:34:24Speaker 2: talking about jury to some friends the other night, and
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: we're all like, I've been asked to do it twice.
- 1:34:28Speaker 2: I think I've been asked to do it twice as well,
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: and I got it both times because I think, yeah,
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: if you work for yourself, I think it's pretty much.
- 1:34:33Speaker 2: They can't.
- 1:34:34Speaker 4: Yeah, because I mean apparently if you're if you're working
- 1:34:37Speaker 4: nine to five, or you work a regular job or whatever,
- 1:34:40Speaker 4: your employer has to pay.
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: Two weeks I think, yeah, yeah, ten days or something
- 1:34:45Speaker 2: like that when yourself and pointing, I'm literally going to
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: lose money. Yeah, Well, for the first of what's the case?
- 1:34:51Speaker 2: Is it a good one? Can I send an innocent
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: person to jail? I'd really like to do that. Do
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: I get free pot roasts? How many essays does innocent happen?
- 1:35:03Speaker 4: Just another great visual gig with home, I mean, yeah,
- 1:35:06Speaker 4: taking the glasses off, It's like, fine, okay, you caught me.
- 1:35:09Speaker 2: Realize he's got his backups and those hmm. And they
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: double down at the end with the three. But the
- 1:35:14Speaker 2: lawyer he calls Freddy to the stand so they can
- 1:35:17Speaker 2: bask in his gentle decency. And I just love the
- 1:35:21Speaker 2: theatrical smug turned to the courtroom when he stands up first,
- 1:35:23Speaker 2: he turns to the court room, he said, his hands
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: on his hips. He's like, look at me, everybody, mister.
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: Comby, and you assault mister Lacoste.
- 1:35:31Speaker 3: Of course not.
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: I love each and every year living thing on Gud's
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: green Earth. Well, therefore, you certainly would never lose your
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: temporal with something as trivial as the pronunciation of chowder.
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: That's chowder, chowder.
- 1:35:43Speaker 3: I'll kill you, I'll kill How are you, especially those
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: of you in the Jerry Yeah, really guilty? Wow, that
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: didn't go well?
- 1:35:51Speaker 2: That is so great? Well I didn't go well. The
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: fence rests the jury and then centered aside their verdict,
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: and Helen Lovejoy says he will clearly he's guilty. We'll
- 1:36:00Speaker 2: be home before dinner. Jasper is happy about that because
- 1:36:02Speaker 2: the dog from Fraser is going to ride the dolphin
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: from Sequest Back when I know I'm getting old, but
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: I missed the days of destination TV, where you knew
- 1:36:12Speaker 2: something was being promoted, a special episode of a show
- 1:36:14Speaker 2: was going to be airing that night, neverone works talking
- 1:36:16Speaker 2: about it, and you know you're all gonna be going
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: home watching it. At the same time. You can come
- 1:36:19Speaker 2: back tomorrow and talk about it. You couldn't go on
- 1:36:20Speaker 2: social media, have to wait to the next day talk
- 1:36:22Speaker 2: about it with your friends. Our viewing happens to changing
- 1:36:24Speaker 2: out something like I can be at the best. I
- 1:36:26Speaker 2: still watched The Bear season four. I was so excited
- 1:36:29Speaker 2: for the Bear season four. Now that the stead I'm like,
- 1:36:31Speaker 2: I'll get to it. Yeah, sure. He used to be well,
- 1:36:33Speaker 2: if you didn't watch it, you weren't gonna watch it.
- 1:36:34Speaker 2: That's right. Yeah, I miss I know, that's just it's
- 1:36:37Speaker 2: a thing of the past. But I just miss it.
- 1:36:40Speaker 2: I miss knowing you're watching everything with your mates in
- 1:36:42Speaker 2: real time. There are still some things like that. There
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: were some shows like Game of Thrones when it was on,
- 1:36:46Speaker 2: it was that its peak people watching it at the
- 1:36:48Speaker 2: same time. But I think the closest thing we have
- 1:36:50Speaker 2: now to destination TV is sports events, because you can't
- 1:36:53Speaker 2: really it probably is.
- 1:36:54Speaker 4: Yeah, all high profile news stories like the one we
- 1:36:57Speaker 4: were talking about, yeah yeah, but even then, it's like
- 1:37:00Speaker 4: you keep it, you keep it abreast of that. With
- 1:37:02Speaker 4: social media and stuff, you don't necessarily have to tune
- 1:37:04Speaker 4: into the six o'clock bulletin to get the lowdown. You're
- 1:37:08Speaker 4: sort of getting the loawdown all the time sporting events.
- 1:37:12Speaker 4: If you need a score, you don't real want watch anyone,
- 1:37:13Speaker 4: so it takes it like what's the point watching it?
- 1:37:15Speaker 2: Kind of Yeah, But they're very much sort of a
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: closed loop on their own ecosystem, aren't they. Lisa then
- 1:37:19Speaker 2: lays the guilt trip on Bart's saying it's because of
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: him that an innocent man is going to jail, which
- 1:37:24Speaker 2: I guess is technically true, but it's also it's not
- 1:37:25Speaker 2: Bart's folds. Oh no, he can save the day. But
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: that feels a little gin dup. Yeah it does.
- 1:37:32Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:37:32Speaker 2: But Bart then considers coming clean. But then he says Skinner,
- 1:37:35Speaker 2: and Skinner says he can't wait for the sentencing. That's
- 1:37:37Speaker 2: where he really shines, and we cure the dream sequence
- 1:37:40Speaker 2: of Skinner as the judge giving but a lifetime of
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: hard labor in the school cafeteria for playing hooky, and
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: he gives some cream corn to Jib Junior, who calls
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: it cream crap. Then Lisa brings over the judge because
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: she says Bart's or something to say. She thinks he's
- 1:37:56Speaker 2: going to come clean. But Bart chickens out here and says,
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: it's glad to see chicks on the bench. Keep up
- 1:38:00Speaker 2: the good works. It's so demeaning, But I call Nicola
- 1:38:05Speaker 2: Toots all the time. She knows that I'm not demeaning her.
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: It's just a joke. That's that, that's the joke kind
- 1:38:09Speaker 2: of thing. But it's a good word.
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: It is.
- 1:38:13Speaker 2: I get that it's a bad I get it's a
- 1:38:14Speaker 2: horrible word when used in the wrong context, But I
- 1:38:16Speaker 2: think it's fallen so far out of the everyday of
- 1:38:21Speaker 2: the naka. Yeah, that it's so ridiculous. Yeah, if you
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: use it to someone, you're clearly using it ironically. Yeah.
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: So it's pretty hard to take offense. But I can
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: understand why someone might. We come back and we're in
- 1:38:33Speaker 2: the jury room. The ve all decided that he's guilty.
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: Jasper doesn't want to vote, so what's the point of
- 1:38:37Speaker 2: voting he's clearly guilty in Homer then says, no, I'm
- 1:38:40Speaker 2: not too sure about this. What's the questioned mean? They
- 1:38:42Speaker 2: explain it, okay? What is deadlocked? Me? Okay? Then Homer
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: explains it for the audience at home. He might not
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: understand it, and Homer realized that he can make the
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: most of the situation and get free food, free accommodation, whatever,
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: free willie a lot and skin. It calls for a vote,
- 1:38:58Speaker 2: and they also guilty except home, how many yes in innocence? Yes,
- 1:39:02Speaker 2: I mean it makes sense. It fit's the Homer character
- 1:39:04Speaker 2: to do this, to be a bit of a free loader,
- 1:39:07Speaker 2: and he's not really he's being selfish, but it's not
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: like he's being a bad person. And I think like,
- 1:39:12Speaker 2: even if Freddie Quimby was guilty, he is getting some
- 1:39:15Speaker 2: free shit.
- 1:39:18Speaker 4: They alluded this in Wikipedia, but yeah, it's very much
- 1:39:20Speaker 4: a reference to Yeah, the Twelve Angry Men, Yeah, which
- 1:39:25Speaker 4: is yeah, basically about a I believe it's a murder trial,
- 1:39:29Speaker 4: and eleven of the jurors are very much like, oh,
- 1:39:31Speaker 4: this guy's guilty. You know, let's not waste any time here.
- 1:39:34Speaker 4: You know he did it.
- 1:39:36Speaker 2: There's one guy.
- 1:39:37Speaker 4: Who's like, this person's life is on the line here,
- 1:39:39Speaker 4: we'd better really sort of drill down on this and
- 1:39:41Speaker 4: make sure. And everyone's like, why it's evidence, Like, no,
- 1:39:45Speaker 4: we've we're representatives of the legal system here. We've got
- 1:39:48Speaker 4: to do our due diligence and home, but just sort
- 1:39:51Speaker 4: of doing the not the inversive. But it's like, you know, no,
- 1:39:54Speaker 4: we really need to you know, this guy might be innocent,
- 1:39:57Speaker 4: by the way, free willly, he should work out a
- 1:39:59Speaker 4: free hotel.
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: That's exactly it. We get to the free hotel Springfield
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: Palace Hotel. Homer is the one on the phone to March,
- 1:40:06Speaker 2: eating his weight and pot roasts while Skinner is throwing
- 1:40:08Speaker 2: the apron is the clean, clean guy in the regular
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: odd couple. He picks up the cigar but whatever. He
- 1:40:14Speaker 2: points out that they are the regular odd couple. Homer says,
- 1:40:16Speaker 2: shut up, and that's the end of that. But as
- 1:40:18Speaker 2: they're watching Itchen scratchy, it's just finished list as of
- 1:40:20Speaker 2: his insides are being eaten out by the guilt of
- 1:40:22Speaker 2: not coming clean again going out. Bar's comeback is great.
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: There save it for HALLMARKSI I'm a cucumber as in
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: cool as he and we get McGonagall.
- 1:40:33Speaker 3: You gotta tell him what you saw, Billy, But.
- 1:40:35Speaker 5: I'm so scared. Mccarnicle.
- 1:40:38Speaker 3: You gotta do this one for me, Billy mccarnacle, Okay
- 1:40:43Speaker 3: for you, mccarnagal Well, McGonagall.
- 1:40:48Speaker 2: Billy is dead.
- 1:40:49Speaker 3: He slid his throat from me to wear. Hey, I'm
- 1:40:53Speaker 3: trying to eat lunch here.
- 1:40:55Speaker 2: McGonigle is so, I don't know. Is he a bad guy? McGonagall,
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: he's showing no remorse for he's the reason Billy's dead. Yeah,
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: he's a ship cop, good cap, good cop, gets results,
- 1:41:07Speaker 2: but does it the wrong way? Really, I'm not really sure.
- 1:41:11Speaker 2: Do it for me, okay for you, mcgarigill.
- 1:41:16Speaker 4: I don't mix up McBain and McGonagall, but yeah, mcgonigall's
- 1:41:19Speaker 4: my words. Like I think it's at the end of
- 1:41:24Speaker 4: I forgot which episode, but it's like they're talking about
- 1:41:26Speaker 4: to the TV and home is very much like because
- 1:41:28Speaker 4: he gets results, you're stupid cheap.
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: At the end of an episode. It's the end of
- 1:41:31Speaker 2: Barton a child. What does that mean exactly? It means
- 1:41:34Speaker 2: it gets results, you're stupid, Chief? So that yes, so
- 1:41:36Speaker 2: they're watching McGonagall on TV in beds, right, yeah, I
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: must stop yelling at the TV. Yeah, so, oh that's
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: a Oh that's a new show about the policeman who
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: sold crimes and he spared crank at Homer. You busted
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: up that crackhouse pretty bad. Mcgonigall. Did you really have
- 1:41:52Speaker 2: to break so much furniture? You tell me, Chief, you
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: had a pretty good view from behind your desk. Mcgonagalla.
- 1:41:57Speaker 2: The pain, that's it, butgonagle, the pain off the case. Mcgarigall,
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: you off the case, Chief, What does that mean exactly?
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: It means resultant be quite to sit down or something.
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: I think that's just the dad sit down. That's this
- 1:42:18Speaker 2: is the first time we see McGonagall.
- 1:42:20Speaker 4: Yes, indeed, he's looking very much like Clinicewood. Yeah, but
- 1:42:23Speaker 4: I've forgotten about those two bits that I really loved.
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: Is the Pain. I think that that's the same episode
- 1:42:32Speaker 2: because it's a callback, because it has Troy McClure at
- 1:42:35Speaker 2: the start, because it's all about the self help our brooks.
- 1:42:39Speaker 4: Yeah, but he's like, they paid me with this count
- 1:42:42Speaker 4: of fortified wine. A lot of you mean sweet liquories?
- 1:42:46Speaker 2: Is the pain? It is a lot of Hutter says
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: that I thought it was Troy McClure. Yeah, you're right.
- 1:42:53Speaker 2: So it's tropic color from a self help video. High
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: on tropical you might remember from such self help videos
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: as smoke yourself thin and get confident stupid. So well,
- 1:43:00Speaker 2: now I'm here to tell you about the real paths
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: of mental health. That's right. It's a Brad Goodman something
- 1:43:04Speaker 2: or other. Marge, can you go outside and play? And
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: then it says a few weeks ago, I was watched
- 1:43:08Speaker 2: up actor with a drinking problem. Then Brad Goodman came
- 1:43:10Speaker 2: along and gave me this job, and I can a
- 1:43:12Speaker 2: fortified why sweet liquories the pain? And then by the
- 1:43:22Speaker 2: great great lines just the Simpsons.
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: Man.
- 1:43:26Speaker 2: You wonder why we keep talking about it. This is
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: the reason yes so good and why you hopefully keep
- 1:43:30Speaker 2: listening and watching please do yes. But but it's just
- 1:43:33Speaker 2: like he's watch mcgonaga but he's not bothered at all.
- 1:43:35Speaker 2: But then, as he said, after you watching mcgonogo, he's like,
- 1:43:37Speaker 2: oh boy, but ever watching that, it would make you
- 1:43:40Speaker 2: less inclined to want to come clean, right because bol
- 1:43:42Speaker 2: BILLI ends up with this stroke game. Yeah, I'm trying
- 1:43:44Speaker 2: to eat here. I just love that Billy is dead.
- 1:43:51Speaker 2: I hope you're happy Billy is dead. I'm trying to
- 1:43:56Speaker 2: lunch here. Then we have deleted scene before we have
- 1:44:01Speaker 2: Homer watching Free Willie. It's going to be the night
- 1:44:03Speaker 2: before and Skinner was going to be is having a
- 1:44:05Speaker 2: PTS dream from the war. He's like no this, don'
- 1:44:08Speaker 2: shull and Homer sitting there with popcorn, going get him, Skidner,
- 1:44:11Speaker 2: give him, get him Skinner. Goodness, I thought was a
- 1:44:15Speaker 2: pretty funny scene. It's not bad. It's not bad. Yeah,
- 1:44:20Speaker 2: out of all the deleted it's PTSD, so you really
- 1:44:23Speaker 2: shouldn't do it, but we passed. Oh goodness, Oh look,
- 1:44:27Speaker 2: we're joking, Johnny we were talking so much about it
- 1:44:31Speaker 2: and place backs back in the nineties, but just the
- 1:44:34Speaker 2: you could get him Skinner. But now PTSD is for everybody,
- 1:44:39Speaker 2: so you don't really make fun of it. But Homer
- 1:44:40Speaker 2: is now watching the Free Willy director's cut Jump, Free
- 1:44:43Speaker 2: Willie Jump Jump with all your mind. Oh no, will
- 1:44:57Speaker 2: It didn't make it and he crushed our ball. What
- 1:45:01Speaker 2: a mess. I wish they got Madsen to actually say
- 1:45:04Speaker 2: that it would have even better. Right. The hammer is
- 1:45:07Speaker 2: putting furniture out the window now given it to Barney
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: as well as Skinner's tie? Is that my neck? Are
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: you wearing super civity? But then ask Marge for advice?
- 1:45:17Speaker 2: And if anyone should probably ask probably March. She's gonna
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: give you the best advice. And she brings up the
- 1:45:20Speaker 2: story of old uncle Arthur, who had a saying shoot
- 1:45:23Speaker 2: them all like God's then it took seventy five marshals
- 1:45:28Speaker 2: to bring him down. Let's never speak of him again.
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: And she carries on cleaning the house and asks, well
- 1:45:32Speaker 2: should I come and clean, and Marge's like, well, listen
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: to your heart, not the voices in your head, like
- 1:45:35Speaker 2: your uncle are the ones dead. Then we're in the
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: court room, and I mean it's it's a crutch, but
- 1:45:41Speaker 2: it's a funny crush. But that just pointed out like
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: this so blatantly, even though reopening a trial at this
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: point is illegal and grossly unconstitutional, I just can't say
- 1:45:48Speaker 2: no to kids. So she hasn't reopened a trial. And
- 1:45:50Speaker 2: Fredie Quinby's lawyer asked, but who did inflict the injuries here?
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: And he retells the story about how he slipped on
- 1:45:57Speaker 2: a cloth or something on something. Yeah, away, he slips
- 1:46:00Speaker 2: over and causes all the injuries him stuff by being
- 1:46:03Speaker 2: a clumsy way to Cluso esque Clusives is that okay? Yes,
- 1:46:08Speaker 2: he falls out the window lands into a delivery truck
- 1:46:10Speaker 2: full of rat traps. Do you think listeners will be
- 1:46:12Speaker 2: aware who Cluso is? No idea? Okay, I thought it
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: was clumsy Es so Clusi esque what clus Oh you're
- 1:46:19Speaker 2: aware of the Pink Panther movies. Yeah? Yeah.
- 1:46:22Speaker 4: Cluso is like the bumbling cop who's always on the
- 1:46:25Speaker 4: on the trail, always trying to solve the case.
- 1:46:28Speaker 2: Always. I've always said my whole I've said clumsy es.
- 1:46:32Speaker 2: It doesn't make it, doesn't say says Cluses. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:46:35Speaker 4: Clues played by the sellers in the original Pink Panther movies,
- 1:46:39Speaker 4: then played by Steve Martin into yes, okay, yeah, but yeah,
- 1:46:43Speaker 4: he's essentially and a very sophisticated French law enforcement.
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: Or something like that. Yeah, you end up in a
- 1:46:53Speaker 2: trug delivery trips. Yes, likely there was no big one
- 1:46:56Speaker 2: and then there was. Then Huts says, well, how could
- 1:47:00Speaker 2: you possibly have seen this? Bard Werence? You're supposed to
- 1:47:02Speaker 2: be at school, and he sort of says to himself,
- 1:47:05Speaker 2: He's like, oh, come clean. He owns up to it,
- 1:47:08Speaker 2: and Skinners like, see, I told you, I know you
- 1:47:10Speaker 2: slip up if I just wait long enough. He didn't
- 1:47:11Speaker 2: slip up. You confessed I need this. Then Freddy is
- 1:47:15Speaker 2: found not guilty on all charges, gets the shake, shakes
- 1:47:18Speaker 2: his hand with Mayor Quimby outside the room. Skinner says,
- 1:47:21Speaker 2: you know, impresses what you did there, Bart and buses.
- 1:47:23Speaker 2: All the two things cancel at each other here. This
- 1:47:25Speaker 2: may be one of my favorite Skinner lines ever. A
- 1:47:28Speaker 2: small man in many ways, but a small petty man.
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: Three months attention, so oh man, you know, but wait
- 1:47:36Speaker 2: a minute, but it's like, oh, we make that foremost attention.
- 1:47:39Speaker 2: Then deleted scene. Wow, this actually was followed up by
- 1:47:43Speaker 2: Quimby and the waiter leaving the court room and someone
- 1:47:49Speaker 2: I think the waiter says chatter or something, and then
- 1:47:50Speaker 2: Quima says, say, Chowdy, you're bastard, and he just does
- 1:47:53Speaker 2: bidden and they start fighting, and then the police just
- 1:47:55Speaker 2: beat up Freddy and then the lead the water runs away.
- 1:47:58Speaker 2: I'm thinking the only reason maybe they included this because
- 1:48:01Speaker 2: they thought the audience may want for to get some
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: come uppets for being a dickhead, some kind of calmic justice.
- 1:48:06Speaker 2: I know, because he was. He's a dickhead, but he
- 1:48:09Speaker 2: was innocent, that's correct. Yeah, and you don't really want
- 1:48:12Speaker 2: and we all knew. We all knew he was a dickhead. Yeah,
- 1:48:15Speaker 2: we all knew that, yet didn't need to say that,
- 1:48:17Speaker 2: so that seems cut out. Then it's that night Homer
- 1:48:20Speaker 2: is in bed with March, surrounded by his souvenirs, and
- 1:48:23Speaker 2: you think he's talking about the harrowing story of how
- 1:48:25Speaker 2: he had to go against the other jurors to finally
- 1:48:27Speaker 2: get the innocent, innocent verdict, But no, it was all
- 1:48:30Speaker 2: about how he convinced to get Chinese for lunch. And
- 1:48:33Speaker 2: she says, well, while you were away a lot of
- 1:48:34Speaker 2: things happened here too. I'd love to hear about of
- 1:48:36Speaker 2: money about him. Yeah, puts the glasses on and we
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: get there and those give me and those and that's
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: the end. Yeah, a story of two halves, an episode
- 1:48:46Speaker 2: of two halves, like there's there's Bart skipping school and
- 1:48:48Speaker 2: then the courtrooms scene was essentially a half the episode.
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: But it's just got so many good moments this episode.
- 1:48:54Speaker 2: Oh this is this is Swartswater to a tea very much.
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: So.
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: How long we talked about this? We talked about it
- 1:48:59Speaker 2: for quite a while, to most of this not making
- 1:49:03Speaker 2: the cat deleted scenes as many deleted scenes in this
- 1:49:09Speaker 2: podcast as they are in this episode. But I think
- 1:49:11Speaker 2: we've got a very very good time talking about it.
- 1:49:13Speaker 2: We talked about it for as long as we did
- 1:49:15Speaker 2: because there's just so much to enjoy in it is
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: here and Freddie Quimby, as much of a dickhead as
- 1:49:21Speaker 2: he is, you just cannot help but love him because
- 1:49:23Speaker 2: I don't have to personally deal with the guy. I
- 1:49:25Speaker 2: think it's funny to watch, Oh yeah, the man you loved.
- 1:49:27Speaker 2: If this guy was in my real life, I would
- 1:49:29Speaker 2: despise him, oh absolutely, But we've got a nice distance
- 1:49:34Speaker 2: from him, so we can just revel in his despicableness
- 1:49:38Speaker 2: that laugh ha ha ha ha get back here, not
- 1:49:44Speaker 2: through demeaning you. Oh boy, so good. So that is
- 1:49:47Speaker 2: our review of The Boy Who Knew Too Much. We've
- 1:49:50Speaker 2: got plenty of mail bag questions for this episode, specifically
- 1:49:52Speaker 2: sent through, so we're going to be answering those in
- 1:49:54Speaker 2: our mail bag episode at the end of the month,
- 1:49:56Speaker 2: so make sure you stay tuned for that. I thought
- 1:49:58Speaker 2: there's going to be more to more talk, there will
- 1:50:02Speaker 2: not be because we have gone long enough for this one.
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: It's been a lot of fun talking about The Boy
- 1:50:06Speaker 2: Who Knew Too Much. The next episode we're going to
- 1:50:08Speaker 2: be reviewing a season twenty episode. The next one is
- 1:50:10Speaker 2: I think it's Waverley Hill You're toe? Do yes? That title?
- 1:50:15Speaker 2: Get your new names in now? So back to season
- 1:50:19Speaker 2: twenty after this. I think we may do more Guy
- 1:50:22Speaker 2: on Springfields during the month. I don't know. I feel
- 1:50:24Speaker 2: like I have so much more fun talking about these ones.
- 1:50:26Speaker 2: I think to have a lot more fun watching and
- 1:50:28Speaker 2: listening to us talking about these ones as well. Okay,
- 1:50:30Speaker 2: what do you think? Look, A month generally has four weeks.
- 1:50:34Speaker 2: We record an episode a week two and two. Well,
- 1:50:38Speaker 2: I pitched this to the Patriots and they went, Now,
- 1:50:39Speaker 2: because you know, we like the fact that you're doing
- 1:50:41Speaker 2: the season twenty episodes is what we like the fact
- 1:50:43Speaker 2: that you're doing this. Maybe we can do one on
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: Patreon and one because I just like to do them. Okay,
- 1:50:49Speaker 2: one on Patreon. No, I don't want to keep it up.
- 1:50:50Speaker 2: We'll work it out. We'll work it out and see
- 1:50:53Speaker 2: we're thinking of you business meetings. Yes, but if you
- 1:50:57Speaker 2: do want to support us, you can do so on Patreon.
- 1:50:59Speaker 2: As you're well aware that it's a description of this podcast.
- 1:51:01Speaker 2: So many hours of exclusive content on there. And at
- 1:51:04Speaker 2: the end of the month we talked about deleted scenes.
- 1:51:05Speaker 2: I've actually been saving on deleted scenes over the last
- 1:51:08Speaker 2: couple of seasons, and they're gonna be it's gonna be
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: an end of end of year little special. Hearing all
- 1:51:12Speaker 2: the stuff that got cut out interesting. Yes, for various reasons,
- 1:51:18Speaker 2: offense being one of them. We've got whatever guy says, now,
- 1:51:23Speaker 2: I know this may be racist. I'm like, get the
- 1:51:25Speaker 2: dump button ready, said I think all right, but think
- 1:51:32Speaker 2: you guys again for all of your support. Please continue
- 1:51:34Speaker 2: to rate and reviews on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, rever you
