Trump’s New Counterterror Strategy Rewrites the Rules · The 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson

Speaker 1: The president fought. I think originally that if we showed determination,
• 0:05
Speaker 1: that we'd be dealing with rational people and we could
• 0:08
Speaker 1: find some kind of a deal. He probably thought it
• 0:10
Speaker 1: would happen six or eight weeks ago. But in fact,
• 0:12
Speaker 1: we're dealing with religious fanatics, and I think they may
• 0:16
Speaker 1: well be prepared to offer remarkable concessions, more than I
• 0:19
Speaker 1: would have guessed, because they see that over the next
• 0:22
Speaker 1: three or four weeks the runnings on the Wall.
• 0:25
Speaker 2: You're listening to the forty seven Morning Update with Ben ferguson.
• 0:28
Speaker 3: Good Thursday morning. Nice to have you with us on
• 0:30
Speaker 3: the forty seven Morning Update, and we've got a major
• 0:33
Speaker 3: story for you coming out of the White House. The
• 0:35
Speaker 3: Trump administration has now put out a new counter terrorism strategy.
• 0:41
Speaker 3: It will be an aggressive response with border security and
• 0:44
Speaker 3: what they're describing is hemispheric safety. In translation, the Trump
• 0:50
Speaker 3: administration is declaring war on the drug cartels. So what
• 0:53
Speaker 3: does that mean, Well, explain it all to you. It's
• 0:56
Speaker 3: the forty seven Morning Update and it starts right now.
• 1:00
Speaker 3: Number one, we are now getting new information that the
• 1:03
Speaker 3: President of United States of America certainly is not just
• 1:05
Speaker 3: focused on Iran, but the president now has a new
• 1:08
Speaker 3: agenda item, it is counter terrorism strategy that is going
• 1:12
Speaker 3: to be aggressive in its response as well as border
• 1:16
Speaker 3: security and hemispheric safety. So what does that actually mean. Well,
• 1:21
Speaker 3: the new White House counter Terrorism Strategy document is now
• 1:25
Speaker 3: looking to seize the initiative from terrorists as well as
• 1:28
Speaker 3: criminal cartels by taking aggressive action against tostile regimes, keeping
• 1:34
Speaker 3: America's borders secure to minimize threats at home, and also
• 1:39
Speaker 3: they say to push malign foreign influence out of our
• 1:44
Speaker 3: western hemisphere. Quote. Our new US counter terrorism strategy is
• 1:48
Speaker 3: a return to common sense and peace through strength, the
• 1:52
Speaker 3: President said, and is forward to the plan as I
• 1:55
Speaker 3: said after our first successful counter terrorism mission just days
• 1:59
Speaker 3: after I was and back into office, if you hurt
• 2:02
Speaker 3: Americans or planning to hurt Americans, we will find you
• 2:05
Speaker 3: and we will kill you, the president, not backing down now.
• 2:10
Speaker 3: Trump's introduction and the rest of the document were highly
• 2:13
Speaker 3: critical of the counter terrorism strategies that we've had in
• 2:16
Speaker 3: the past. They've been pursued by the way, by both
• 2:19
Speaker 3: Republican and Democrats, and Trump said he returned to the
• 2:22
Speaker 3: White House in twenty twenty five to find four years
• 2:26
Speaker 3: of weakness, failure, surrender, and humiliation under the last Biden administration. Now,
• 2:32
Speaker 3: the body of the White House Counter Terrorism Strategy Document
• 2:36
Speaker 3: made it very clear that it faulted the Biden administration
• 2:40
Speaker 3: for perverting national security into an endless crusade against its
• 2:45
Speaker 3: domestic political enemies that would obviously be Donald Trump and
• 2:48
Speaker 3: other conservatives that destroyed public confidence in the honesty and
• 2:53
Speaker 3: accountability of American security agencies. The document also blasted the
• 2:57
Speaker 3: Democratic President Joe Biden and Barack Obama for ignoring what
• 3:02
Speaker 3: is described as a growing threat of criminal cartels, appeasing
• 3:07
Speaker 3: hostile powers and ways that made further hostility look profitable,
• 3:11
Speaker 3: and above all, for throwing the borders open to admit
• 3:15
Speaker 3: everything from vicious criminals to hostile foreign operatives, including those
• 3:20
Speaker 3: on the Terrorists Watch List. Not to be clear, this
• 3:24
Speaker 3: wasn't all partisan, because the Trump team also criticized the
• 3:27
Speaker 3: Bush administration for failing to confront the dangers of Islam
• 3:32
Speaker 3: head on, giving a hostile ideology plenty of time to
• 3:35
Speaker 3: put down roots on American soil. Now, both Democrat and
• 3:39
Speaker 3: Republican administrations have clearly been slow, not only to condemn
• 3:43
Speaker 3: or counter jihadi purges against Christians in the Middle East
• 3:47
Speaker 3: and Africa and the Trump administration saying that indifference not
• 3:51
Speaker 3: only was brutal to the persecuted Christians, but it was
• 3:55
Speaker 3: also dangerous for the entire world because it allowed Jihadis
• 3:58
Speaker 3: to consolidate their rip On territory as well as sees
• 4:02
Speaker 3: money and resources to continue to operate and grow and
• 4:06
Speaker 3: to begin dismantling the weakened governments of Africa as well.
• 4:10
Speaker 3: So this new counter terrorism strategy number one, it recognizes
• 4:15
Speaker 3: the threats close to the American homeland and says those
• 4:18
Speaker 3: the most immediate and dangerous. It prioritizes neutralization of hemispheric
• 4:23
Speaker 3: terror threats by incapacitating cartel operations. Let me say that again,
• 4:30
Speaker 3: incapacitating cartel operations until these groups are incapable of bringing
• 4:36
Speaker 3: their drugs, their members, and their trafficking victims into the
• 4:41
Speaker 3: United States of America. Now, let's just stop there and
• 4:44
Speaker 3: break that down. When you look at what the President
• 4:47
Speaker 3: just used in his words in the White House saying
• 4:49
Speaker 3: he's ready to incapacitate cartel operations, that means going after
• 4:54
Speaker 3: their drug operations. That means going after the drug houses.
• 4:58
Speaker 3: That means going after their manu factoring houses, many of
• 5:01
Speaker 3: those by the way are in Mexico, and then he says,
• 5:05
Speaker 3: We're not stopping until these cartels are incapable of bringing
• 5:10
Speaker 3: their drugs. He noticed that he uses drugs first, then
• 5:13
Speaker 3: their cartel members second, and their trafficked victims into the US.
• 5:19
Speaker 3: So what the President is doing is declaring war on
• 5:23
Speaker 3: the drug cartels and declaring war not only in their
• 5:26
Speaker 3: drugs but also their members. Quote At the same time,
• 5:31
Speaker 3: we will continue to find and remove the cartel and
• 5:33
Speaker 3: gang members who were let into our country under the
• 5:36
Speaker 3: Biden administration, while using foreign terrorist organization designations to strangle
• 5:42
Speaker 3: the commercial and logistical connections of their organizations, the Trump
• 5:46
Speaker 3: White House has vowed.
• 5:47
  Speaker 1: Now.
• 5:48
Speaker 3: The White House also held up its strikes against cartel
• 5:51
Speaker 3: drug boats and the capture of narco terrorist dictator Nicholas
• 5:55
Speaker 3: Maduro of Venezuela as examples of its aggressive approach to
• 5:58
Speaker 3: hemispheric security. The document noted that maritime drug smuggling has
• 6:04
Speaker 3: decreased by more than ninety percent since the drug boat
• 6:07
Speaker 3: strikes began, and some of those smuggling and financial networks
• 6:11
Speaker 3: are also used by Islamic terriss now. The White House
• 6:15
Speaker 3: argued that making its determination to achieve hemispheric security clear
• 6:20
Speaker 3: and demonstrating America's ability to act decisively towards that goal
• 6:25
Speaker 3: is crucial to bring America's neighborhoods into the Western Hemisphere
• 6:30
Speaker 3: and bringing them on board. So the President is now
• 6:34
Speaker 3: saying clearly, we're moving on to step two. Phase two.
• 6:38
Speaker 3: We are going after the drug dealers, the drug cartel members,
• 6:42
Speaker 3: the leadership, and where they're making their drugs. Now, much
• 6:47
Speaker 3: of this criticism is directed to prior administrations, concerned that
• 6:51
Speaker 3: the mixed signals sent by a combination of lofty pronouncements
• 6:56
Speaker 3: and tepid action as security threats in Latin America were
• 7:00
Speaker 3: allowed to fester for years on end. The White House
• 7:03
Speaker 3: sets in contrast, what the President was saying today is
• 7:07
Speaker 3: he's now making it clear that not only is his
• 7:09
Speaker 3: determination to secure the hemisphere against terrorism and organize crime
• 7:14
Speaker 3: crystal clear, but doing it in a way that only
• 7:18
Speaker 3: kinetic action meaning they're going to use guns, folks, and
• 7:22
Speaker 3: assertive prosecutions can do it. Now, this new strategy also
• 7:27
Speaker 3: has a second priority, and that is this the targeting
• 7:31
Speaker 3: and destruction of the top five Islamic terror groups that
• 7:34
Speaker 3: have the intent and the capabilities to execute external operations
• 7:39
Speaker 3: against the United States of America. That is also in
• 7:43
Speaker 3: this document from the White House. Now, these groups would
• 7:47
Speaker 3: include al Qaeda, the Islamic State, and their most aggressive
• 7:51
Speaker 3: subgroups such as Al Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula or ISIS.
• 7:55
Speaker 3: The White House argued the importance of including the International
• 7:59
Speaker 3: Muslim brother as a terrorist organization as well, a Stephan
• 8:03
Speaker 3: Trump administration took in January of this year, and then
• 8:07
Speaker 3: the third priority of this new CT strategy was to
• 8:11
Speaker 3: depoliticize security agencies that were weaponized under the Biden Obama administrations.
• 8:19
Speaker 3: They want to take action against the growing threat of
• 8:21
Speaker 3: violent left extremist groups in this country, whose bloody handiwork
• 8:26
Speaker 3: included the assassination of Charlie Kirk by a radical who
• 8:30
Speaker 3: espoused extreme transgender ideology. Again, this is in the White
• 8:35
Speaker 3: House's document. In addition, it says to cartels and Islamic
• 8:40
Speaker 3: tear groups, our national CT activities will also prioritize the
• 8:46
Speaker 3: rapid identification and then neutralization of violent secular political groups
• 8:52
Speaker 3: whose ideology is anti American, radically pro transgender, and anarchists,
• 8:59
Speaker 3: the document said, noting that some of these groups have
• 9:02
Speaker 3: ties to dangerous international organizations. The documents specifically mentioned the
• 9:08
Speaker 3: left wing terror group an Tifa as a priority now
• 9:11
Speaker 3: of the White House to target. That is massive.
• 9:14
  Speaker 1: Now.
• 9:15
Speaker 3: The fourth priority of this strategy singled out a special
• 9:18
Speaker 3: strategic category all on its own, and that was the
• 9:22
Speaker 3: combat what they described as non state acquisition and use
• 9:27
Speaker 3: of weapons of mass destruction, especially the terrorists use of
• 9:31
Speaker 3: nuclear or radiological devices. The strategy document placed the current
• 9:36
Speaker 3: operation against Iran specifically into that category, since Iran is
• 9:42
Speaker 3: a state actor but the proxy groups it might furnish
• 9:45
Speaker 3: with nuclear weapons are not. The White House vowing to
• 9:49
Speaker 3: ensure that the regime in Tehran is no longer a
• 9:52
Speaker 3: threat to the United States of America, either directly or
• 9:56
Speaker 3: through many of its tentacles, hamas hesblog Ara, Malitias, and
• 10:01
Speaker 3: the Huthi terraces of Yemen, who must never again, they say,
• 10:04
Speaker 3: be allowed to hold strategic waterways such as the Strait
• 10:07
Speaker 3: of Vermuz or the Red Sea Hostage. Now, this CT
• 10:12
Speaker 3: strategy presented the destruction of the Islamic state the Caliphate
• 10:17
Speaker 3: during the first Trump administration, and they used as an
• 10:20
Speaker 3: example of the swift and decisive action the Obama administration
• 10:24
Speaker 3: and vision. The isis Caliphate is a generational threat to
• 10:28
Speaker 3: be slowly degraded over years and decades. The President Trump
• 10:32
Speaker 3: unleashed the greatest fighting force in the world that we've
• 10:35
Speaker 3: ever seen, and within a matter of weeks, the jihadi insurgency,
• 10:38
Speaker 3: which controlled vast territories across Iraq and Syria, well they
• 10:42
Speaker 3: were gone. Isis then fell back to Africa, and that
• 10:46
Speaker 3: is leaving governments like Nigeria and Somalia with solid control
• 10:51
Speaker 3: over mere fractions of their own territory.
• 10:55
  Speaker 1: Well.
• 10:55
Speaker 3: The Trump twenty twenty sixth strategy, they say, in vision
• 10:58
Speaker 3: tackling these threats by rebuilding bilateral ct relations with African governments,
• 11:05
Speaker 3: who had been ignored or insulted, they say, by the
• 11:07
Speaker 3: Biden era neocolonial policies focused on globalist, left wing cultural issues. Now,
• 11:15
Speaker 3: this was a blunt acknowledgment of the uncomfortable truth that
• 11:20
Speaker 3: some African nations have grown reluctant to partner with America
• 11:24
Speaker 3: or Europe on security issues because they fear agendas like
• 11:28
Speaker 3: homosexual and transgender rights will be forced upon them. Some
• 11:32
Speaker 3: of those nations prefer to partner with Russia China as
• 11:34
Speaker 3: a result, and the results have been disastrous for Africa
• 11:38
Speaker 3: and world security. So the Trump White House has proposed
• 11:42
Speaker 3: reversing the dynamics by marrying CT cooperation with the stabilitizing
• 11:49
Speaker 3: effort and effect of heightened trade and commercial relations, as
• 11:53
Speaker 3: witnessed by President Trump's historic peace deal between Rwanda and
• 11:57
Speaker 3: the Democratic Republic of the Congo. An example of our
• 12:01
Speaker 3: security is a prerequisite, he says, for prosperity. So here
• 12:05
Speaker 3: we are common sense and realism. That is the major
• 12:09
Speaker 3: theme of this new strategy laid out by the White House,
• 12:12
Speaker 3: especially on the delicate subject of expecting allies like the
• 12:16
Speaker 3: Europeans began shouldering more of the burden of their own security.
• 12:21
Speaker 3: The document blasted the European governments for creating a permissive
• 12:25
Speaker 3: operating environment for plotting against Europeans and Americans by allowing
• 12:30
Speaker 3: a conglomerate of nefarious actors like al Qaeda, ISIS, cartels,
• 12:34
Speaker 3: and state actors to exploit Europe's wheat borders and diminish
• 12:39
Speaker 3: CT resources, saying this it is unacceptable that wealthy NATO
• 12:44
Speaker 3: allies can serve as financial, logistical and recruitment hubs for terrorists.
• 12:51
Speaker 3: The document bluntly declares unfettered mass immigration has been the
• 12:56
Speaker 3: transmission belt for terrorists that warned can be strong again
• 13:01
Speaker 3: if it rediscovers traditional principles of freedom of speech, has
• 13:05
Speaker 3: honest conversations about Islamism, devote sufficient resources to mitigate terrorism
• 13:12
Speaker 3: and cartel threats within its nations, and then get serious
• 13:15
Speaker 3: about global threat intelligence. Finally saying this, it is clear
• 13:21
Speaker 3: to all the well organized hostile groups that have exploited
• 13:24
Speaker 3: the open borders and related globalist ideals. The more these
• 13:29
Speaker 3: alien cultures grow and the longer current European policies persist,
• 13:34
Speaker 3: the more terrorism is guaranteed. This is the new ringing
• 13:39
Speaker 3: of the alarm bell that no prior administration of either
• 13:43
Speaker 3: party would have been willing to touch. September the eleventh
• 13:46
Speaker 3: of two thousand and one. But what the White House
• 13:48
Speaker 3: has just laid out is an America First counter terrorism
• 13:52
Speaker 3: strategy that they say will bring security not only to
• 13:55
Speaker 3: the US but across the world by setting successful examples
• 13:59
Speaker 3: of border security and threat detection that Allied nations can follow.
• 14:05
Speaker 3: The Trump administration and the White House say, America first
• 14:08
Speaker 3: and only is an expression of what we need, but
• 14:12
Speaker 3: it's common sense and honesty that would guide and inspire
• 14:16
Speaker 3: the rest of the civilized world. This now is the
• 14:19
Speaker 3: new priority of the President clearly thinking far beyond what's
• 14:24
Speaker 3: happening right now in Iran.
