Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Chaos in the House yesterday Parliament suspended. Here is Hannah Lafferty,
- 0:04Speaker 1: might P Clark and Willie Jackson, the Party of.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Doug Bryan, the Party of Christophin Lason's, Jim Bolger, Jenny Shipley.
- 0:22Speaker 2: None of those people would have been played the way
- 0:25Speaker 2: the Prime Minister has been played, mister Speaker.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Well, the former Treaty negotiations Minister chrisph Nason is with
- 0:30Speaker 1: us this morning. Good morning, Mordena. First of all, is
- 0:34Speaker 1: Willy Wright is National no longer? You know your party all?
- 0:40Speaker 2: The National Party is a liberal conservative party. That's what
- 0:43Speaker 2: I joined, gee, almost fifty years ago, and I'm very
- 0:46Speaker 2: proud of the traditions of Hannah McIntyre, Bulger Rayam and
- 0:51Speaker 2: so on. I think we've moved away from that person.
- 0:54Speaker 2: That's pretty soon.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Do you think Luxeon's made a mistake in I mean,
- 0:59Speaker 1: I mean, look, if the choices either get into government
- 1:02Speaker 1: and swallow this dead rat or not, you would have
- 1:06Speaker 1: gone not.
- 1:09Speaker 2: I would have probably gone not.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I think here is this going to cost them at
- 1:15Speaker 1: the next election.
- 1:16Speaker 2: Well, that's interesting. A lot of mari come up to me,
- 1:19Speaker 2: which is not surprising. At the airport and so on,
- 1:23Speaker 2: and the white guy. See give me recently, I've always
- 1:26Speaker 2: voted National. Where am I going to go now? You see,
- 1:30Speaker 2: the debate takes place against the back of what I
- 1:34Speaker 2: perceived to be hostile acts against target Fenaware over the
- 1:38Speaker 2: last year in relation to names and treating principles and
- 1:43Speaker 2: certain am sort of actions and so on. So it's
- 1:46Speaker 2: the coupination of a number of things.
- 1:49Speaker 1: The KKK comments, you know, did being a packer up
- 1:52Speaker 1: in the grille of Nicole McKee and David Seymour etc.
- 1:57Speaker 1: How does that play out with voters?
- 1:59Speaker 2: With kiwis oh, I think that will be pretty appalled.
- 2:03Speaker 2: You don't behave like that in parliament. David's got to
- 2:06Speaker 2: realize it's not some kind of academic debate, sort of
- 2:10Speaker 2: a nice, polite little seminar that's been conducted. So there
- 2:15Speaker 2: will be emotions, that's for sure, but to behave with
- 2:20Speaker 2: them certain limits in the house.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Are you still a member of the National Party?
- 2:25Speaker 2: I think I am. Yeah.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Do you still want to be?
- 2:29Speaker 2: Oh? No, I'm National to the cores in terms of
- 2:34Speaker 2: the key Bulger traditions and I just the party seems
- 2:40Speaker 2: to have moved a little way from that at the moment.
- 2:42Speaker 2: But you've got to be loyal to your tribe. But
- 2:44Speaker 2: I'm loyal to the traditions of the National Party and
- 2:48Speaker 2: what it stands for. It to liberal Conservative Party is
- 2:51Speaker 2: not a conservative party and you've got to stick with it.
- 2:54Speaker 1: What about the decorum and Parliament? How you had to
- 2:57Speaker 1: feel for Jerry Browne? Yes today rock in a hard place.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Oh, Brud, he's big enough to deal with those sorts
- 3:04Speaker 2: of things. I don't have any sympathy. He can deal
- 3:07Speaker 2: with it.
- 3:08Speaker 1: What happens with the Select Committee? I mean, if you
- 3:10Speaker 1: have this type of rhetoric and this type of display,
- 3:15Speaker 1: you know, for six months, how that's a bit disruptive.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going to be a disaster rectory. You're going
- 3:22Speaker 2: to get the craziest on the right and the craziest
- 3:27Speaker 2: on the left coming in and you'll get some sensible submissions,
- 3:30Speaker 2: but it's not going to be a particularly pleasant experience.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I think James Meaga from ring Ga Tata is going
- 3:36Speaker 2: to be cheering it. He's a very capable person. But
- 3:39Speaker 2: it puts a lot on the system and be'd have
- 3:41Speaker 2: to deal with a lot of this stuff.
- 3:44Speaker 1: All right, Chris, just before we go, you staid at
- 3:46Speaker 1: the start of this. You probably wouldn't have gone into
- 3:48Speaker 1: government over this issue.
- 3:51Speaker 2: No, I didn't know. I guess. Look I if that's
- 3:55Speaker 2: what was communicated, No, I would have adopted perhaps a
- 3:58Speaker 2: harder line. I get the I know what Key did
- 4:02Speaker 2: over the kilmed X legislation. He just said to next
- 4:06Speaker 2: month and me went down this office was not proceeding,
- 4:10Speaker 2: and I think Kean would have said to see, well
- 4:12Speaker 2: you're not getting it, callers plan and call us buff
- 4:16Speaker 2: and the seam where it had a tantrum, and said well,
- 4:19Speaker 2: I'll go to the cross benches. I know what Key
- 4:21Speaker 2: would have said. He would have said, yeah, fine, do
- 4:23Speaker 2: that and I'll standings to you personally and him with
- 4:25Speaker 2: the next colection, I'll destroy you. So you've got to
- 4:28Speaker 2: be fairly half noted.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Apreciations all right, Kristin Lison, it was good to have
- 4:34Speaker 1: you on the show. That's former treaty negotiations Minister. Kristin
- 4:36Speaker 1: Leason thed.
