- 4:57Speaker 4: Easters just around the corner.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Yeah, and there's there's gonna be uh plenty of sunrise services.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Oh gosh, yes, you know they have several different you know,
- 5:09Speaker 4: Holy Week services that are going on.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I think one of the big questions is, uh, will
- 5:15Speaker 1: we have any actual ground to to hide to hide
- 5:20Speaker 1: the Easter eggs or will it be all snow between No.
- 5:24Speaker 4: I think well, we're supposed to get rained coming up,
- 5:28Speaker 4: and it's supposed to be warmer next week, so I'm
- 5:30Speaker 4: thinking I'm thinking we're having ground.
- 5:32Speaker 1: There we go, there we go. Anything else you can
- 5:36Speaker 1: think of that's that's coming out in the world today.
- 5:40Speaker 4: That that pretty much covers the main things. Of course,
- 5:44Speaker 4: always lots of local news.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I've got a couple of friends that pick on
- 5:49Speaker 1: me a little bit because they think it's sad that
- 5:53Speaker 1: that I get excited that I get to sit down
- 5:56Speaker 1: and thumb through the pages of the of the of
- 5:58Speaker 1: the world. I'm not sure sure I understand how to
- 6:01Speaker 1: describe it, but there's something that is just so relaxing
- 6:05Speaker 1: about just doing that.
- 6:07Speaker 4: Well, it's like someone said to me the other day,
- 6:09Speaker 4: I love your paper. It's just full of good news.
- 6:13Speaker 5: Yeah, exactly, yeah, and so, and I think that's refreshing
- 6:18Speaker 5: with all the bad news it's out.
- 6:20Speaker 1: There, sure, and there's a ton of it, and there's
- 6:22Speaker 1: a ton of drama, and you guys dodge that and
- 6:24Speaker 1: you put the good stuff out there. And I love that.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I love that there's so much to read in there.
- 6:29Speaker 1: And of course you your partnership with the Time s Argus.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I mean, you guys got a ton of content now.

- 6:59Speaker 3: Thank you, keep all right.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Thanks Jad, always appreciate you. Deb Phillips right there from
- 7:05Speaker 1: the World Newspaper Central from Out's favorite weekly newspaper. Sales
- 7:10Speaker 1: at vtashworld dot com. If you want to do some advertising,
- 7:14Speaker 1: of course, you can always pick up the phone and
- 7:16Speaker 1: give them a jingle and speak with someone directly, and
- 7:18Speaker 1: yes they will answer. Four seven nine twenty five eighty two.
- 7:25Speaker 1: We're at thirty four degrees right now here in the
- 7:29Speaker 1: Granite City. Sun and clouds both in the mix today.
- 7:33Speaker 1: We're looking at maybe forty four or so for the
- 7:36Speaker 1: high and yeah, depth's right. Warming trend is coming thirty
- 7:39Speaker 1: seven tonight with rain, and that rain's going to stay
- 7:44Speaker 1: with us tomorrow. We're getting up into the mid fifties
- 7:48Speaker 1: tomorrow and then Friday, sun and clouds snapping back just
- 7:53Speaker 1: a little bit. Daytime high of right around thirty either
- 7:56Speaker 1: side of the freezing point on Friday. But we're keeping
- 7:59Speaker 1: an eye of the weekend. We'll let you know. And
- 8:01Speaker 1: I'm also looking into the crystal ball here, always paying
- 8:04Speaker 1: attention to see whether or not we've got a little
- 8:08Speaker 1: spring snowstorm that's that's coming. I'm watching, Yes, I'm paying
- 8:12Speaker 1: attention this handsome dude that is with me this morning
- 8:17Speaker 1: on the air, not on the curvy couch, but rather
- 8:20Speaker 1: over Ian. Where the hell are you, Rick?
- 8:23Speaker 3: I am in Vestal, New York.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Now, can you Sweethearts and heroes stay here on a Wednesday? Obviously?
- 8:30Speaker 1: Rick Yarish, Sergeant rick Yarish? Where the hell is that
- 8:36Speaker 1: over in New York?
- 8:38Speaker 3: It is in the southern tier of New York, so
- 8:41Speaker 3: right on the border of Pennsylvania, probably about four and
- 8:45Speaker 3: a half hours from Barry, Vermont. So okay, good distance.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I love to be on the college, Yeah, I really do.
- 8:51Speaker 6: I wish I was on your couch today, but not happening.
- 8:55Speaker 6: So at home vessel in New York. It's colder here
- 8:58Speaker 6: than it is there, you told me in the tem
- 9:00Speaker 6: twenty eight degrees.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Oh wow, no, it's chilli. Yeah. Now do we have
- 9:04Speaker 1: the uh, what's up with the green here? Do we
- 9:08Speaker 1: have the Sweethearts and Heroes?
- 9:09Speaker 3: Look? Okay, what what what Buckingham buck talk to me? Yeah?
- 9:16Speaker 6: So Buckingham is an awesome sponsor of ours now in
- 9:20Speaker 6: the electrical line world, so it's pretty crazy too. So
- 9:25Speaker 6: we we spoke at a bunch of events that have
- 9:27Speaker 6: to do with ib W, which is the high voltage
- 9:31Speaker 6: lineman inside contractor world.
- 9:34Speaker 3: And Buckingham is a huge name in the industry.
- 9:40Speaker 6: They make a lot of the I don't know the
- 9:42Speaker 6: right wording for it, but like the strapping and stuff
- 9:45Speaker 6: that helps you climb the poles.
- 9:48Speaker 3: So it's really neat.
- 9:49Speaker 6: But it's also really neat that Buckingham, So they we
- 9:52Speaker 6: reached out to them, and Buckingham is in Binghamton, New York,
- 9:56Speaker 6: which is five minutes down the road from where I live.
- 10:00Speaker 6: Really neat that we have a sponsor that is so
- 10:03Speaker 6: local to me. So I'm gonna do some photo shoots
- 10:07Speaker 6: for them soon. They've they've just been a big help
- 10:11Speaker 6: in our world into this new world that we're going
- 10:14Speaker 6: into with the electrical alignment. So yeah, Buckingham, bucking him
- 10:18Speaker 6: and and it's green, you know, right after Saint Patti's Day,
- 10:22Speaker 6: so I figured this was the shirt to wear today.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Now you're just scrapping, you're just scrapping at straws there.
- 10:30Speaker 1: But but here's the here's the question I have for
- 10:33Speaker 1: you if and if you're just joining us folks every Wednesday,
- 10:37Speaker 1: Sweethearts and Heroes Day, Sweethearts and heroes and for those
- 10:42Speaker 1: that are that are new, we were getting new listeners
- 10:45Speaker 1: all the time. Uh, and they're saying sweethearts and heroes
- 10:48Speaker 1: and what the heck's this all about? What do you say?
- 10:53Speaker 1: Rick Introduce introduced Sweethearts and Heroes.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Yeah, so I am the sweetheart in Sweethearts and Heroes.
- 11:01Speaker 6: And buddy, my buddy Tom is just an outlier who
- 11:05Speaker 6: just stands there, does nothing.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Yes, dad knows. Yeah.
- 11:10Speaker 6: No, Sweethearts and Heroes we've been around for seventeen years.
- 11:14Speaker 6: I believe I've been involved for about fifteen years. It
- 11:17Speaker 6: started in the world of anti bullying in schools. So
- 11:21Speaker 6: the word sweetheart, well, actually the word bully in the
- 11:25Speaker 6: sixteenth century actually met sweetheart, and it was somebody in
- 11:28Speaker 6: your life who pushed you over and over and over again.
- 11:31Speaker 6: But at that time, in the sixteenth century, they did
- 11:33Speaker 6: it to make you better. Like today, a bully pushes
- 11:36Speaker 6: you over and over and over again to tear you down,
- 11:38Speaker 6: to make you question who you are. But in the
- 11:41Speaker 6: sixteenth century that's not how it works. So that's where
- 11:43Speaker 6: the word sweethearts came from. And then heroes are just
- 11:46Speaker 6: the people who do end up jumping into action. Also
- 11:49Speaker 6: sweethearts are the carriers of hope. That the people that
- 11:52Speaker 6: give hope to other people.
- 11:53Speaker 3: But yeah, the heroes part are the people who actually
- 11:55Speaker 3: jump into action.
- 11:56Speaker 6: There aren't a ton of them in the world who
- 11:58Speaker 6: will actually stand up and do something about it. So
- 12:01Speaker 6: it's really bystander empowerment in the bullying world. That's where
- 12:06Speaker 6: it all started. But we have gone in a lot
- 12:09Speaker 6: of different directions. You know, seventeen years later, we're all
- 12:13Speaker 6: over the place doing but it's all in the end.
- 12:15Speaker 6: It's all about hope and hopelessness. That's in every single
- 12:19Speaker 6: one of our messages, hope and hopelessness. But yeah, bullying
- 12:23Speaker 6: is where it all started. But we say we can
- 12:25Speaker 6: take the word bully right out of our presentation today,
- 12:28Speaker 6: and you know we do mention it quite a bit,
- 12:30Speaker 6: but we could take it right out of the school presentation.
- 12:33Speaker 6: It's the same exact presentation even without that word bully
- 12:36Speaker 6: in it. It's just about taking care of each other,
- 12:39Speaker 6: understanding what people are dealing with, what people are going through,
- 12:42Speaker 6: and doing something about negative things when you see them.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Happening, and not to look in the other way and listen.
- 12:51Speaker 1: I mean, there's plenty of parents out there and you know,
- 12:56Speaker 1: my dad was one of them who is like, not
- 12:59Speaker 1: your business, don't get involved, don't bring problems to your world,
- 13:07Speaker 1: to your life.
- 13:09Speaker 6: Yeah, and I would say a lot of a lot
- 13:11Speaker 6: of people say it's not my problem, it's not my problem.
- 13:15Speaker 3: But that is the problem. I believe. I believe that
- 13:18Speaker 3: is the problem when we don't stand up, especially if
- 13:21Speaker 3: it's right in front of us.
- 13:23Speaker 6: You know, like you're talking to deb from the World
- 13:27Speaker 6: news in Central Vermont and uh, you're talking about.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Local community good news. There's a lot of good news.
- 13:37Speaker 6: There's a lot of great things, but we focus on
- 13:40Speaker 6: the big negative things that we can never change or
- 13:43Speaker 6: never do anything about, and we focus on them. And man,
- 13:46Speaker 6: it's pretty crazy when we focus on something extremely negative
- 13:50Speaker 6: that we can.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Do nothing about.
- 13:52Speaker 1: And then and then, and then we get the momentum going,
- 13:55Speaker 1: we get out.
- 13:56Speaker 3: We're sure you feed into it and you'll just keep
- 13:58Speaker 3: going and going and going.
- 14:00Speaker 1: And we get the spin, we get the spin going,
- 14:02Speaker 1: and it's it's renting so much space in our heads.
- 14:05Speaker 1: We're getting ourselves all worked up.
- 14:07Speaker 6: That is right, right right, So I you know, with me,
- 14:10Speaker 6: it's it's about focusing on what is around me right now.
- 14:14Speaker 6: And if I'm going bigger than that, it's my community
- 14:17Speaker 6: and whatever community that I'm in. But we always focus
- 14:20Speaker 6: on communities that are thousands of miles away that we
- 14:24Speaker 6: just can't do anything about. And so yeah, so Sparce
- 14:30Speaker 6: and Heroes, it's awesome.
- 14:31Speaker 3: I love doing what I do. We've spoke to two
- 14:33Speaker 3: million students, but now.
- 14:36Speaker 6: You know a lot of other people as well over
- 14:38Speaker 6: the past seventeen years been awesome.
- 14:41Speaker 1: You You and the team of men and women who
- 14:45Speaker 1: are making up the family, I should say beyond team.
- 14:49Speaker 1: It's a it's a family of sweethearts and heroes.
- 14:52Speaker 3: It is a family, and you're You're a part of
- 14:54Speaker 3: that family. JD. We have a You're like the crazy uncle? Yes?
- 15:00Speaker 1: Really? So, I mean, does that put me in a
- 15:03Speaker 1: similar classification as crazy Leon?
- 15:07Speaker 3: Oh wait, don't say that. I'm just asking. It's just
- 15:11Speaker 3: a question. Are you guys brothers? You are both promonters? Yeah, listen,
- 15:19Speaker 3: So twenty two thousand readers for the world.
- 15:23Speaker 6: Yeah, I didn't know there were twenty two thousand people
- 15:27Speaker 6: in central Vermont.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Well, and it's beyond Central Vermont that the paper pushes to.
- 15:32Speaker 1: But yeah, that's a lot of eyeballs.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Man it is a lot. That's awesome.
- 15:36Speaker 1: Forty four thousand eyeballs, that's all.
- 15:40Speaker 3: I'm like, Wait a minute, twenty, I'm not that smart.
- 15:44Speaker 3: I'm from upstate New York.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Listen, man, I have so many questions for you, and
- 15:50Speaker 1: we're gonna chat a little bit about your partnership with
- 15:54Speaker 1: Electrical Alignment. But first before I go an inch further,
- 16:00Speaker 1: you as a veteran, let's let's all no matter where
- 16:08Speaker 1: you fall on the political spectrum, we should all be
- 16:17Speaker 1: taking a moment today, tonight, tomorrow, tomorrow night, the next
- 16:24Speaker 1: day to have in our hearts, in our heads the
- 16:34Speaker 1: four thousand plus marines that are headed over to the
- 16:40Speaker 1: Middle East right now. This is big news, man, This
- 16:47Speaker 1: is big, big news. And we hate to hear the
- 16:54Speaker 1: words boots on the ground, and we've been avoiding that
- 16:59Speaker 1: up until now. But man, we got a huge target
- 17:03Speaker 1: on our backs. Wreck you know that.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Mm hmmm, yeah, I heard.
- 17:08Speaker 6: We're either it's either eighty second Airborne or hunting first Airborne.
- 17:12Speaker 6: They're sending guys over there now as well, and uh yeah,
- 17:17Speaker 6: we don't want to hear boots on the ground because
- 17:19Speaker 6: we know what that means. We're we're gonna we're gonna
- 17:23Speaker 6: get a lot more names over the news of who
- 17:27Speaker 6: we've lost, and so we know that that's the next step,
- 17:30Speaker 6: unfortunately when it comes to boots on the ground. But
- 17:34Speaker 6: you know, I do think we do as a nation today.
- 17:38Speaker 6: I don't think we've always done this, but I think
- 17:40Speaker 6: we do a really good job of supporting those men
- 17:43Speaker 6: and women. No matter what your political standpoint is, you
- 17:47Speaker 6: understand that this country cannot be without a military. I mean,
- 17:53Speaker 6: it just cannot. That wouldn't work. And most people understand that.
- 17:57Speaker 6: And also most people understand that the troops that do serve,
- 18:02Speaker 6: they aren't the ones that sign the paper to go overseas,
- 18:04Speaker 6: but they're willing to go as soon as that paper
- 18:07Speaker 6: is signed.
- 18:07Speaker 3: So I think we do a really good job of
- 18:10Speaker 3: supporting those men and women who are deployed. And you know,
- 18:14Speaker 3: and here we go again.
- 18:15Speaker 6: There are a couple outliers and there are a couple
- 18:18Speaker 6: people who don't and they're usually very loud and very vocal.
- 18:21Speaker 3: And guess what those are the people that we concentrate on.
- 18:24Speaker 3: It's crazy how we do that.
- 18:25Speaker 6: Yeah, but the millions and millions of people out there
- 18:28Speaker 6: in this country who are just supporting those men and
- 18:30Speaker 6: women who are deployed.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Yeah, you were very much so boots on the ground
- 18:38Speaker 1: two thousand and six over in Iraq, YEP.
- 18:44Speaker 3: And when I.
- 18:45Speaker 6: Joined, I knew I was going I mean I joined
- 18:48Speaker 6: in the middle of two wars. Iraq was happening, Afghanistan
- 18:53Speaker 6: was happening. I knew that when I signed those papers
- 18:56Speaker 6: and the job that I chose, I knew.
- 18:58Speaker 3: That I was going to go to war. And it
- 19:00Speaker 3: just happened for me that I ended up in Iraq
- 19:03Speaker 3: a year after I joined.
- 19:07Speaker 1: And for folks that are not familiar with my guest,
- 19:12Speaker 1: rick Yarish from Sweethearts and Heroes, you bring something to
- 19:19Speaker 1: your life, and you bring something to the table, and
- 19:23Speaker 1: you bring something to the microphone and the camera when
- 19:28Speaker 1: you present in front of the thousands and thousands of
- 19:33Speaker 1: people that you have that no one else in the
- 19:37Speaker 1: Sweethearts and Heroes family can bring. And that is an
- 19:41Speaker 1: experience of what you have endured resiliently in your life
- 19:50Speaker 1: as a veteran. You were blown up and you are alive,
- 20:00Speaker 1: which is many of us, i'm sure, including yourself, have
- 20:06Speaker 1: wondered how you're still alive, But you were, you were
- 20:11Speaker 1: burned alive you were blown up, you were covered in
- 20:14Speaker 1: diesel fuel and essentially kind of checking out like this,
- 20:21Speaker 1: this was this was the end for you.
- 20:25Speaker 6: And I would tell you right now, JD, that I'm
- 20:27Speaker 6: more alive today than I was twenty years ago before
- 20:30Speaker 6: my injury.
- 20:32Speaker 3: I'm just I'm just more aware. I'm more alive, I'm
- 20:35Speaker 3: more awake.
- 20:37Speaker 6: I'm I don't know. Life is good. I don't know
- 20:41Speaker 6: if how we saw it that way before I got injured.
- 20:44Speaker 6: And you know, I certainly could look at it differently today,
- 20:48Speaker 6: you know, with my hands how they are and missing
- 20:51Speaker 6: a leg and looking the way I look. But that's
- 20:54Speaker 6: a pretty crappy place to live. So I don't live there.
- 20:58Speaker 6: I live in a world where, man, things are good
- 21:01Speaker 6: and my life is good, and even when they're tough,
- 21:05Speaker 6: they're still good.
- 21:06Speaker 3: And I understand that in this world. But yeah, I
- 21:09Speaker 3: knew I was gonna join. I knew I was gonna
- 21:11Speaker 3: be deployed. I knew I was going to go into
- 21:13Speaker 3: a war. I knew there was a possibility that I
- 21:15Speaker 3: could get injured. I didn't.
- 21:16Speaker 6: You know, you don't think you're going to get injured,
- 21:18Speaker 6: but you know what's a possibility, and that happened to me,
- 21:22Speaker 6: and I did basically burn alive.
- 21:25Speaker 3: I was extremely lucky to survive.
- 21:29Speaker 6: Only one percent of people I've read a study long
- 21:32Speaker 6: time ago, one percent of people with facial burds like
- 21:34Speaker 6: I have survive. And that's usually because you inhale the
- 21:38Speaker 6: smoke or the fire and you do internal damage and
- 21:41Speaker 6: you don't make it. So I can't figure out how
- 21:44Speaker 6: I made it through all of that stuff. I know
- 21:46Speaker 6: I am extremely blessed to be here, There's no doubt
- 21:50Speaker 6: about that. And since I am still here, I better
- 21:53Speaker 6: do something with that. And that is you know, a
- 21:56Speaker 6: lot of what Sweethearts and Heroes is to me. It's
- 21:58Speaker 6: my opportunity to do things with what happened to me.
- 22:02Speaker 1: And you man, it's like, how do I say this?
- 22:07Speaker 1: So many of us will go through some something in
- 22:11Speaker 1: our lives which is horrifically bad, and it's it's it's
- 22:21Speaker 1: not easy to not allow that event to shape you
- 22:27Speaker 1: and frankly, to define you. It's it's pretty it's pretty
- 22:36Speaker 1: easy to to have something tragic happened in your life
- 22:41Speaker 1: and to have that kind of tattooed on you and
- 22:47Speaker 1: you're carrying it. You're carrying the weight all the time,
- 22:50Speaker 1: whether it's mental health or depression, or or not leaving
- 22:54Speaker 1: your house, or anxiety or what have you.
- 22:58Speaker 5: It.
- 23:00Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying.
- 23:01Speaker 6: I did know what you're saying, and I was actually
- 23:03Speaker 6: thinking of it earlier before you brought that up, and
- 23:05Speaker 6: I hadn't said it yet. And I don't think I
- 23:07Speaker 6: would have because I would have forgot, but you brought
- 23:09Speaker 6: it up again. And about letting it shape you and
- 23:12Speaker 6: letting it define you, JD. I let what happened to
- 23:17Speaker 6: me shape me and define me.
- 23:20Speaker 5: I did.
- 23:21Speaker 3: You know? People say, don't let these things shape you
- 23:23Speaker 3: and define you. Why not?
- 23:25Speaker 6: It's a huge change in your life. Don't let it
- 23:29Speaker 6: shape you in a negative light. Don't let it define
- 23:32Speaker 6: you in a negative light.
- 23:33Speaker 3: But why not? You're not gonna forget something super traumatic
- 23:38Speaker 3: in your life.
- 23:39Speaker 6: You can try, you can go to therapy, and you
- 23:41Speaker 6: can talk about it, but when you're talking about it,
- 23:42Speaker 6: you're also bringing it up. You're not gonna forget super
- 23:45Speaker 6: traumatic things in your life. I don't think that's what
- 23:48Speaker 6: you should do. I think you gotta find ways to
- 23:51Speaker 6: make that traumatic thing in your life something positive. And
- 23:55Speaker 6: that's what I've done with my situation. In the beginning,
- 23:58Speaker 6: I did let it shape me. It defined me in
- 24:00Speaker 6: a very negative way. I wouldn't leave my house.
- 24:03Speaker 3: I was extremely.
- 24:06Speaker 6: I had the extreme depression, I had extreme anxiety. I
- 24:10Speaker 6: couldn't sleep at night. Those were terrible times for me.
- 24:15Speaker 6: But at some point I got tired of that and
- 24:17Speaker 6: I'm like, well, I'm not gonna forget what happened to me.
- 24:19Speaker 6: There's just no way I look in the mirror. I
- 24:21Speaker 6: know exactly what happened, So okay, how do I find
- 24:24Speaker 6: good things that came out.
- 24:25Speaker 3: Of what happened?
- 24:26Speaker 6: And all I had to do was open my eyes
- 24:28Speaker 6: and look around, and I could see the people in
- 24:31Speaker 6: my life I always in the beginning, that's where it started.
- 24:33Speaker 6: It was just the people that were surrounding me, my
- 24:36Speaker 6: doctors and my nurses, my physical therapists, all those amazing people.
- 24:41Speaker 6: And I'm like, man, I wouldn't know them today. I
- 24:43Speaker 6: wouldn't have learned the lessons that they taught me today
- 24:47Speaker 6: if this didn't happen to me. No, I didn't want
- 24:49Speaker 6: it to happen to me. No, I don't want really
- 24:51Speaker 6: difficult and awful things to happen to anyone. But they
- 24:55Speaker 6: do happen, and when they happen. Eventually, we had to
- 25:00Speaker 6: throw that negative crap aside and say, you know what, man,
- 25:04Speaker 6: look at all the amazing things in my life today
- 25:07Speaker 6: because of what happened to me. That's what I look
- 25:11Speaker 6: at today. So I did let it define me. I
- 25:13Speaker 6: did let it shape me, but I didn't do it
- 25:15Speaker 6: in a negative way.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Bro. I always I always feel when I'm listening to you,
- 25:23Speaker 1: I'm like, as I'm listening to you, I'm like, yep,
- 25:29Speaker 1: going back and rewatching this one.
- 25:32Speaker 6: It comes down to choice though in the entd really
- 25:35Speaker 6: and then and I know, like people don't want to
- 25:38Speaker 6: hear that sometimes because that puts it on themselves. But
- 25:43Speaker 6: we have to make a choice. And if you're living
- 25:45Speaker 6: in this negative world, a lot of it is what
- 25:48Speaker 6: you're choosing now. I know it's not surfacely choosing, like
- 25:51Speaker 6: deep down inside you can't find a way to choose differently.
- 25:56Speaker 6: And that's where time comes in, and that's where patience
- 25:58Speaker 6: comes in, and where that word hope comes in. H
- 26:01Speaker 6: o pe hold on, that's the patient's part. Hold on,
- 26:05Speaker 6: possibilities exist, Try to see the positive things that are
- 26:09Speaker 6: in your life right now, right in front of you,
- 26:11Speaker 6: and eventually you will see positive things that came out
- 26:14Speaker 6: of what actually happened to you.
- 26:15Speaker 3: Yeah, but it is time and it is patients. It's
- 26:18Speaker 3: not easy. I do understand that. But that's the holding
- 26:22Speaker 3: on part. Let's hold on till we can get to
- 26:24Speaker 3: those points where we finally can say, man, my life
- 26:28Speaker 3: is good.
- 26:29Speaker 1: I'm hearing I'm hearing the the acronym hope, hold on,
- 26:32Speaker 1: Possibilities exist, which is what you guys push. I'm thinking of, uh,
- 26:38Speaker 1: doctor Joe Dispensa, and I'm not sure if you're familiar
- 26:41Speaker 1: with him, and what the message that he push pushes,
- 26:45Speaker 1: which is, you know, you are what you eat, but
- 26:48Speaker 1: you're also you are what you think. And training, your training,
- 26:54Speaker 1: your your your your mind and your heart and the
- 26:58Speaker 1: connection between the to to repetitively practice positive thoughts, which
- 27:07Speaker 1: is yeah, I mean, we just got to comment hard
- 27:10Speaker 1: to do.
- 27:12Speaker 6: But but my say, where that starts to idea is
- 27:15Speaker 6: surrounding yourself with positive people. That's where it starts. I mean,
- 27:20Speaker 6: if you want a place to start, that's where it is.
- 27:22Speaker 6: You know, surround if you're not in a good place
- 27:24Speaker 6: but other people are and you can see it, put
- 27:26Speaker 6: yourself in their world with them and listen to them,
- 27:30Speaker 6: hear them. If you put yourself in a negative place
- 27:32Speaker 6: with negative people, that's you're never going to change. So
- 27:35Speaker 6: I think it starts with that positive people in your life,
- 27:38Speaker 6: and those are those sweethearts, those carriers of hope.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Here you are a veteran who survived a roadside palm
- 27:45Speaker 1: in Iraq, burned alive, lost a leg. But look at
- 27:53Speaker 1: what you're doing now with this life experience. You're traveling
- 27:58Speaker 1: all over the damn country wreck. You just racked up
- 28:02Speaker 1: how many miles?
- 28:04Speaker 6: About twenty seven hundred miles in two weeks, Me and
- 28:08Speaker 6: Tom and I twenty seven hundred miles all over forty
- 28:13Speaker 6: seven forty forty seven hours in a car.
- 28:17Speaker 3: Man. That was a good week. Good weeks.
- 28:21Speaker 1: And this is just over the last two weeks.
- 28:24Speaker 6: That was the last two weeks. Yeah, we were in
- 28:26Speaker 6: Long Island. We were in Dwaynesburg, New York. We were
- 28:30Speaker 6: at Lisbon Regional School in New Hampshire. We were in Warsaw,
- 28:34Speaker 6: New York. Was actually Tom and I split up one
- 28:36Speaker 6: of the days. I was in Warsaw, New York. He
- 28:38Speaker 6: was in Laurence, New York. Oxbow High School in Bradford, Vermont, Auburn,
- 28:43Speaker 6: New York, IBW third District in Atlantic City, and then
- 28:48Speaker 6: we finished off the week last week in Canada Harry,
- 28:52Speaker 6: New York. So all over keeping that message alive the
- 28:56Speaker 6: end of the year school year. This is what happens
- 29:00Speaker 6: the beginning of the school year. Every school we usually
- 29:03Speaker 6: do our pack together, so we're not traveling big distances.
- 29:06Speaker 6: But end of the year we're filling in cancelations and
- 29:09Speaker 6: schools that last minute call us and say, hey, we
- 29:12Speaker 6: really want to get in, but we don't have much availability.
- 29:15Speaker 6: So we just start fitting them in and we want
- 29:17Speaker 6: to get to everybody that wants to hear what we
- 29:19Speaker 6: have to say.
- 29:20Speaker 3: We really do.
- 29:21Speaker 6: So, yeah, the end of the year is a little
- 29:23Speaker 6: more hectic, where the beginning of the year is a
- 29:25Speaker 6: lot more planned.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Yeah, a little bit more about what you're bringing into
- 29:33Speaker 1: the schools. We're going to talk about the electrical alignment
- 29:36Speaker 1: here in just a little bit. But you guys really
- 29:40Speaker 1: try not to make Sweethearts and heroes a presentation an
- 29:48Speaker 1: assembly that's one and done. You guys go in there
- 29:54Speaker 1: and you you you put on a presentation, but you
- 30:00Speaker 1: try your main goal is to make this resonate and
- 30:06Speaker 1: sustain itself beyond the end of the day when you
- 30:10Speaker 1: walk through those stores and leave the property for sure.
- 30:14Speaker 6: I mean, we know there is some value in the
- 30:16Speaker 6: one and done, you know, so that doesn't really leave
- 30:20Speaker 6: the done part in there.
- 30:21Speaker 3: So it's one and continuous for some kids.
- 30:24Speaker 6: So some kids ask what they needed to hear was
- 30:28Speaker 6: that presentation that we do, so we know there's value
- 30:32Speaker 6: in that, but no, we I can tell you, I
- 30:35Speaker 6: don't know in the fifteen years that we've done this.
- 30:38Speaker 6: In the beginning, maybe it was a little more, but
- 30:41Speaker 6: I don't know the last twelve years, it's very rare
- 30:44Speaker 6: that we go into a school and leave after a presentation.
- 30:48Speaker 6: We show up at seven am, and we usually a
- 30:51Speaker 6: lot of times don't leave the school until three thirty
- 30:54Speaker 6: or four thirty pm because we stay for the entire day.
- 30:58Speaker 3: We want to become a part of that school, We
- 31:00Speaker 3: want to become a part of that culture.
- 31:03Speaker 6: And then after this school days over, we'll do that.
- 31:05Speaker 6: We'll present to teachers as well. So yeah, we do
- 31:09Speaker 6: the presentation and then we usually fill the day with circles,
- 31:13Speaker 6: circles with the students, maybe with the faculty if they
- 31:18Speaker 6: want to get involved as well, and then when we're
- 31:20Speaker 6: doing elementary schools, we don't do as many circles, but
- 31:24Speaker 6: I'll go around and I'll read my book a bridge
- 31:26Speaker 6: named Amos.
- 31:27Speaker 3: So we want to be a part of the school. Yeah.
- 31:30Speaker 6: We don't want to just show up and say goodbye.
- 31:32Speaker 6: We want to wander the hallways. We want to be
- 31:34Speaker 6: in the cafeteria. And a lot of the time schools
- 31:37Speaker 6: are not booking us for just one day, they're booking
- 31:39Speaker 6: us for multiple days. And we're going to be in
- 31:41Speaker 6: a district later this this year in May, I believe,
- 31:47Speaker 6: for four days in New Hampshire. So yeah, well we
- 31:51Speaker 6: will be a part of that school by the time
- 31:52Speaker 6: we leave.
- 31:53Speaker 1: We're talking about how many how many schools over the last.
- 31:59Speaker 6: Year, in any schools over the last year that so
- 32:04Speaker 6: we have a team of you know, four of us
- 32:06Speaker 6: who travel and sometimes five of us who go into
- 32:09Speaker 6: schools with loud and doing some really awesome stuff in
- 32:13Speaker 6: the schools.
- 32:13Speaker 3: Now too, we I can't even tell you. In the
- 32:16Speaker 3: last year we have probably been in gosh, two hundred
- 32:23Speaker 3: schools within the year, and you know, within a school year,
- 32:27Speaker 3: there's only one hundred and eighty days in a school year.
- 32:30Speaker 3: So I'd say it's probably closer around two hundred schools
- 32:34Speaker 3: with the team now. And then there's people that you know,
- 32:37Speaker 3: we're not even in the schools and they're using our platform,
- 32:39Speaker 3: they're using our whole classroom and they're watching our YouTube
- 32:43Speaker 3: or they're watching they're on our social media. And so
- 32:46Speaker 3: the reach is very far today.
- 32:49Speaker 1: And what about step.
- 32:52Speaker 6: Step teaching the students the way to present our presentation.
- 32:57Speaker 1: It's awesome and that's that's an acronym four Student teacher
- 33:02Speaker 1: Empathy program.
- 33:04Speaker 3: Yeah, Tom and I.
- 33:06Speaker 6: Have been presenting for a long time, and you know,
- 33:11Speaker 6: for a long time we've just believed that him and
- 33:13Speaker 6: I were the key to this presentation. And those little kids,
- 33:18Speaker 6: they love us for sure, But those little kids don't
- 33:21Speaker 6: need Tom and I. Like high schoolers can do what
- 33:26Speaker 6: we do. And little kids love high schoolers. They're not
- 33:29Speaker 6: a ton older than them, and they love them. They
- 33:32Speaker 6: can relate with them a little more then they can relate.
- 33:34Speaker 3: With Tom and I.
- 33:35Speaker 6: Yeah, we make it fun, but we teach these kids
- 33:37Speaker 6: how to do that too, so that these schools can
- 33:40Speaker 6: do the presentation themselves.
- 33:43Speaker 3: And now we have older kids that are even working
- 33:45Speaker 3: on doing presentations in outside districts. So not even just
- 33:49Speaker 3: their own school. That's amazing.
- 33:51Speaker 6: But this is like you know, Tom and Brian and
- 33:57Speaker 6: Pat and you know, and all these great minds coming
- 34:02Speaker 6: together and figuring out how to grow this. You notice
- 34:06Speaker 6: I did not put myself in there, and I do
- 34:08Speaker 6: not do that part. I show up to work, and
- 34:11Speaker 6: I do my job to the best of my ability,
- 34:13Speaker 6: and everywhere I go. I'm not the think tank, that's
- 34:17Speaker 6: for sure. I have ideas, that's as far as I go.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Tell me about the ibe W third Discort Conference in
- 34:24Speaker 1: Atlantic City.
- 34:26Speaker 3: Yeah, so this was a big one for us. We
- 34:29Speaker 3: didn't know truly what to expect. You know, we showed up.
- 34:32Speaker 6: We know ibe W with you know the world of
- 34:35Speaker 6: electrical alignment and inside electrical workers and and actually IBW
- 34:41Speaker 6: encompasses a lot of other things as well.
- 34:44Speaker 3: We met some welding.
- 34:47Speaker 6: Locals while we were there, so they go all over
- 34:50Speaker 6: ibew's not just electrical, but that's the main So we
- 34:54Speaker 6: know that world, you know, boots on their fee, you know,
- 34:59Speaker 6: gene and button down.
- 35:03Speaker 3: Corduroy shirts and our jean shirts.
- 35:07Speaker 6: But here we are at this event thinking similar and
- 35:10Speaker 6: it was not it was you know, a suit and tie,
- 35:12Speaker 6: and it was all the delegates from all of the.
- 35:17Speaker 3: The region. So I think it was Delaware that covers Delaware, Pennsylvania,
- 35:22Speaker 3: New York, and New Jersey.
- 35:25Speaker 6: So it was I think four hundred and some people
- 35:28Speaker 6: five hundred people there and Tom and I got to
- 35:31Speaker 6: deliver the message that we've been delivering to the IBW
- 35:35Speaker 6: world for the last year and a half.
- 35:37Speaker 3: It's a two hour long presentation and and there's just
- 35:44Speaker 3: you know, you listen to Tom do his part, and
- 35:46Speaker 3: I think, you know, if you listen to my part
- 35:48Speaker 3: as well.
- 35:49Speaker 6: There is a ton of passion behind what we're doing
- 35:53Speaker 6: there because there are men and women out there in
- 35:57Speaker 6: the IBW world who are struggling with the suicide rate
- 36:01Speaker 6: being extremely high. I don't know the numbers like Tom
- 36:04Speaker 6: knows them, but it's too high. I mean, it's very
- 36:07Speaker 6: obvious that it's too high. There's a problem, and we
- 36:10Speaker 6: got to do something about it. And it starts with
- 36:13Speaker 6: our keynote. You know, let's talk about hope and the
- 36:16Speaker 6: introduction of circles. But we do believe that a lot
- 36:19Speaker 6: of the solution does lie within the circle, within the
- 36:24Speaker 6: locals and the IBW locals, So men don't talk.
- 36:28Speaker 3: To each other, they just don't.
- 36:31Speaker 6: They don't talk to each other about life and things
- 36:33Speaker 6: that are going on in their life. And that is
- 36:36Speaker 6: a stigma that we have to break because we obviously
- 36:38Speaker 6: have a very very big problem in the world today
- 36:40Speaker 6: with suicide. So it's about talking to each other. And
- 36:43Speaker 6: it doesn't have to be all sappy. Everybody when you
- 36:46Speaker 6: say talk to each other, like instantly everybody gets rigid.
- 36:50Speaker 3: Like, oh no, it doesn't have to be that.
- 36:52Speaker 6: Just talk about your life a little bit and talk
- 36:54Speaker 6: about your family, talk, get to know each other. That's
- 36:57Speaker 6: what communities do. They get to know each other. And
- 36:59Speaker 6: that's what's strong communities have is the knowledge of who
- 37:02Speaker 6: your neighbor is. I'm not saying they're deep, dirty down secrets.
- 37:06Speaker 6: I'm talking about who they are. So we believe that
- 37:10Speaker 6: that is a big part. And yeah, so the conference
- 37:14Speaker 6: is you know, speaking to all those delegates that we'll
- 37:17Speaker 6: go back to their locals and you know, hopefully at
- 37:20Speaker 6: some point, I don't know if we're ready for it
- 37:22Speaker 6: right the second because it's growing so big, hopefully we
- 37:26Speaker 6: can hit you know, a lot more locals.
- 37:28Speaker 3: And we also have you know, like we said, we have.
- 37:29Speaker 6: The Hope classroom for the schools. We have the Fifth
- 37:34Speaker 6: Wire program, which is an online program for the the
- 37:38Speaker 6: ibw's because we know we can't hit every single one
- 37:41Speaker 6: Tom and I and that's just not going to happen.
- 37:44Speaker 3: So we have a program that they can use, just
- 37:46Speaker 3: like the schools used with our Hope classroom.
- 37:48Speaker 6: What is that Fifth Wire, Well, it's an online platform
- 37:52Speaker 6: and so a lot of the times it does start
- 37:54Speaker 6: off with a kickoff of Tom and I doing a presentation,
- 37:57Speaker 6: but then we can't just leave them and say good luck,
- 38:00Speaker 6: you know, Hope the presentation changed everything, and you know,
- 38:02Speaker 6: like I said, there's some power in the one and done,
- 38:05Speaker 6: but we need to leave them with something, and we
- 38:07Speaker 6: leave them with the platform of how do you do
- 38:10Speaker 6: these circles?
- 38:11Speaker 3: Flash circles? You know?
- 38:13Speaker 6: And flash circles are very simple things where you just
- 38:15Speaker 6: get together really quick and you maybe ask a question
- 38:18Speaker 6: and around the water cooler. So it's just opportunities for
- 38:22Speaker 6: these men and women to continue the conversation once we leave,
- 38:26Speaker 6: and we ignite and we get everybody excited. But again
- 38:30Speaker 6: that doesn't fix everything, so we got to stay involved
- 38:33Speaker 6: in some way. So it's our online platform for the
- 38:37Speaker 6: advancement of I guess.
- 38:39Speaker 3: You know the mental health word in there. Yeah, guys
- 38:43Speaker 3: and Galaxy's.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Help, we've heard it. We all do. I've heard you.
- 38:48Speaker 1: We've heard you say circle or circles in schools and
- 38:54Speaker 1: now in the electrical contractor world. For folks that might
- 39:00Speaker 1: may not be familiar, and the word circle and circles
- 39:04Speaker 1: is part of your regular vocabulary at Sweetheart scenarios. But
- 39:09Speaker 1: for folks that may not be familiar, what are you
- 39:12Speaker 1: talking about?
- 39:13Speaker 6: I'm talking about something that we've been doing for thousands
- 39:16Speaker 6: and thousands of years, and now we don't where you
- 39:21Speaker 6: sit around and you have a conversation, you know, with
- 39:25Speaker 6: the linemen, we talk about this and they walk into
- 39:29Speaker 6: a room, and.
- 39:29Speaker 3: Same with the students in classes and in schools.
- 39:32Speaker 6: They walk into a room and they see these chairs
- 39:34Speaker 6: set up in a circle and they're like instantly, yeah, right, instant,
- 39:39Speaker 6: they're like, oh no, like what are we gonna do?
- 39:42Speaker 6: We're gonna I'm like, is it therapy? Especially the older
- 39:46Speaker 6: guys that are in the world, Oh man, they walk in,
- 39:50Speaker 6: They're like, do I have to talk?
- 39:53Speaker 3: Right? And that is not it?
- 39:56Speaker 6: You know. So we lay out the guidelines when we
- 39:58Speaker 6: get in the circle, and you know, so I said,
- 40:00Speaker 6: it's been going on for thousands of years, and with
- 40:02Speaker 6: a linement, I just say, okay, picture what's in the center.
- 40:04Speaker 3: Of this circle. Let's fill the fire, let's get our
- 40:07Speaker 3: hands warm. Oh wait, there's a cooler. What's in that cooler?
- 40:10Speaker 6: Well for alignment, it's probably beer, which it shouldn't be, linemen,
- 40:14Speaker 6: it should be like water. But it's a place just
- 40:18Speaker 6: to have conversations. And you know, sometimes the conversations can
- 40:22Speaker 6: get deep. Now, the reason they get deep is because
- 40:25Speaker 6: that's where the people in the circle want to take it.
- 40:27Speaker 6: It's not where we take it.
- 40:28Speaker 3: We don't take it there.
- 40:29Speaker 6: We ask a very simple question that can be answered
- 40:32Speaker 6: very simply. But a lot of the times the people
- 40:36Speaker 6: in the circle, they don't have a place to have
- 40:39Speaker 6: these conversations. So they finally do and they feel comfortable
- 40:42Speaker 6: sharing those things. So, same as schools, we break the ice.
- 40:45Speaker 6: We start with a game with motion and movement. And
- 40:47Speaker 6: if anyone was nervous when they walked in, you can
- 40:50Speaker 6: see that has changed by the.
- 40:52Speaker 3: Time you actually start that circle. Yeah.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Wow, it's so fascinating.
- 40:56Speaker 3: Hey.
- 40:57Speaker 1: Tip of the hat to Littleton, Shoverlet and all of
- 41:01Speaker 1: the North Country Chevy dealers. That have been supporting sweethearts
- 41:05Speaker 1: and heroes your mission. What you guys are doing all
- 41:09Speaker 1: the time. I mean, this is years for This is
- 41:12Speaker 1: far from a nine to five punch in, punch out
- 41:16Speaker 1: job for sweethearts and heroes. But to have the North
- 41:23Speaker 1: Country Chevy Dealers dealerships understand that and say we're gonna
- 41:30Speaker 1: step up collectively and do whatever we need to do
- 41:34Speaker 1: to keep these guys going and to get them into
- 41:38Speaker 1: as many schools and organizations as possible.
- 41:42Speaker 6: Talking about sweethearts, what our sweethearts are the carriers of hope,
- 41:45Speaker 6: They're givers of opportunities, and North Chevy Dealers has just
- 41:50Speaker 6: been that to us as big time sweethearts in our
- 41:54Speaker 6: life and in our world. We would not I mean
- 41:58Speaker 6: that is just I can think of this in my
- 42:00Speaker 6: head like we would not be who we are today
- 42:04Speaker 6: without what the North Country Dealers have done for us.
- 42:09Speaker 3: We we we just wouldn't be.
- 42:11Speaker 6: We are a prominent We've been in almost every school
- 42:16Speaker 6: in the North Country of New York because of the
- 42:19Speaker 6: North Country Dealers. We have been in so many schools
- 42:21Speaker 6: in Vermont and New Hampshire because of the North Country Dealers.
- 42:26Speaker 3: So man, it's just They're awesome. They are awesome. They
- 42:30Speaker 3: mean so much to us.
- 42:32Speaker 6: They've done so much for us, and they've they've changed
- 42:36Speaker 6: a lot of people's lives with the opportunity that we've
- 42:40Speaker 6: had through them.
- 42:40Speaker 1: And just down the road Cody Chevrolet, right right here
- 42:45Speaker 1: in Central Vermont. You've been over there, you've you've had
- 42:48Speaker 1: some book signings since some some meet and greet events
- 42:51Speaker 1: over there, and then just recently over in Littleton Chevrolet too, right,
- 42:55Speaker 1: we have.
- 42:55Speaker 6: Yes, they they've been such they've been so awesome to
- 42:59Speaker 6: us that we offered an extra thing for them, you know,
- 43:02Speaker 6: hopefully people would come into the dealership and now I
- 43:05Speaker 6: could sign the book for them. And yeah, just getting
- 43:08Speaker 6: to spend the time with the people that work in
- 43:10Speaker 6: the dealership and the commitment that they've made to us
- 43:14Speaker 6: is really really cool.
- 43:16Speaker 1: Listen, I want to shift gears here. I want to
- 43:19Speaker 1: ask you. You've got a beautiful wife. I do you
- 43:24Speaker 1: have some beautiful kids?
- 43:25Speaker 3: Yeah? How many kids?
- 43:26Speaker 1: How many kids?
- 43:28Speaker 3: Two kids to both girls, fourteen and six, fourteen and six, Okay,
- 43:33Speaker 3: Tenley and Grace.
- 43:36Speaker 1: Fourteen and six.
- 43:41Speaker 3: That's a world.
- 43:42Speaker 1: It is a world. It's a world like no other.
- 43:48Speaker 3: Ahead is a fact how.
- 43:52Speaker 1: How are you dealing with that?
- 43:53Speaker 3: Man?
- 43:54Speaker 1: As a it's a dad who a very busy dad
- 44:00Speaker 1: who is moving around forty seven hours just in the
- 44:03Speaker 1: in the last two weeks of just drive time alone,
- 44:08Speaker 1: almost three thousand miles. You're moving around, You're you're you're
- 44:12Speaker 1: spreading hope, You're spreading goodness, positivity, resiliency, an incredible message.
- 44:20Speaker 1: But man, it's like you got you got to? Did
- 44:23Speaker 1: you say fourteen and six?
- 44:25Speaker 3: Fourteen and six girls? I think that's the bigger part.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Are they blonde?
- 44:33Speaker 3: One of them is behind the whoa, that's even worse.
- 44:38Speaker 3: Oh man, it's a it is I sell. I'll tell people.
- 44:44Speaker 3: I tell people there's nothing harder in this world than
- 44:46Speaker 3: being a parent.
- 44:48Speaker 6: I mean probably the close second, or maybe even first,
- 44:52Speaker 6: just overtaking it would be being a kid.
- 44:55Speaker 3: You know, there's nothing harder than being a kid in
- 44:57Speaker 3: today's world. But sure that's hard being dad.
- 45:00Speaker 6: But it is the most rewarding thing in the world.
- 45:03Speaker 6: So I mean, that's obviously I'll weighs the heartship and
- 45:06Speaker 6: again it kind of goes along with what I say
- 45:08Speaker 6: in my life and life isn't easy, but it's good.
- 45:11Speaker 6: And that's nobody ever said like, have kids, your life
- 45:15Speaker 6: will become so much easier.
- 45:19Speaker 3: That's not what they say. So it's not easy, but
- 45:23Speaker 3: it is so good.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Yeah, you do. You do you ever find yourself, Rick,
- 45:30Speaker 1: with with the chaos of what's happening in the house.
- 45:34Speaker 1: Do you ever find yourself just going into the room
- 45:37Speaker 1: and shutting the door and going, oh my god, I
- 45:39Speaker 1: need to give myself some advice. Here, hold on, Rick,
- 45:42Speaker 1: possibility suxists, you got this. Hang on here, Okay, listen.
- 45:46Speaker 1: If I could go in a room and shut the door,
- 45:48Speaker 1: that would be amazing.
- 45:49Speaker 6: I can't shut the door in my bedroom because that's
- 45:52Speaker 6: where the cats are with their litter box and our
- 45:54Speaker 6: bed and our bathroom, and there's no escape from that stuff.
- 46:00Speaker 3: Yeah. So, but yes, I do have to remind myself like, hey,
- 46:03Speaker 3: things are good. Things are good, And I do know that,
- 46:06Speaker 3: I really do.
- 46:08Speaker 6: Even when they're really difficult, I think about how good
- 46:11Speaker 6: things really are in my life and in my world,
- 46:14Speaker 6: and how blessed I am to have my daughters and
- 46:17Speaker 6: to have my my wife and.
- 46:19Speaker 3: My two dogs and my two cats. Yeah. Yeah, that's
- 46:22Speaker 3: a lot of hair in the house.
- 46:23Speaker 1: My little girl is eleven, and she and her mom
- 46:30Speaker 1: and I'll admit occasionally me every night watch Dance Moms.
- 46:42Speaker 6: Okay, I noticed your hesitation and spitting all that out, well,
- 46:47Speaker 6: because I know because you know what I'm thinking.
- 46:50Speaker 1: I'm thinking. If Tom Murphy's listening right now, I'm gonna
- 46:54Speaker 1: he's not, but he will listen.
- 46:56Speaker 3: I guarantee you, I'm.
- 46:57Speaker 1: Going to catch a whole heap of crap. Why why, why, Rick,
- 47:04Speaker 1: are we so attracted to watching the drama unfolds in
- 47:13Speaker 1: Dance Mops. Have you ever seen the show?
- 47:16Speaker 3: I have not ever seen the showd I'm sorry to it.
- 47:19Speaker 3: I know you were really.
- 47:21Speaker 6: Hoping that I you please, I've seen the listen, I've
- 47:24Speaker 6: seen the ads for them or whatever.
- 47:27Speaker 3: The I don't. I just don't watch a lot of.
- 47:30Speaker 6: Like TV anymore. I watch a lot of garbage. I mean,
- 47:33Speaker 6: it's just as garbage, like Netflix and.
- 47:36Speaker 3: Stuff like that. I don't watch a lot of like
- 47:38Speaker 3: actual TV anymore.
- 47:40Speaker 6: I used to.
- 47:40Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure that's on TLC right.
- 47:43Speaker 1: I don't even know what network, but I used.
- 47:45Speaker 3: To watch that channel all the time. Little People, Big World.
- 47:48Speaker 3: But it's the same idea, you know, they they filmed the.
- 47:53Speaker 6: Drama that's involved in the house more than they do
- 47:56Speaker 6: the really amazing things that are going on in these people.
- 47:58Speaker 3: With the world. Because we'ren't acted to drama, we're attracted.
- 48:02Speaker 3: That's negativity.
- 48:03Speaker 1: I'm telling you, if your kids six and fourteen, if
- 48:08Speaker 1: they watch one minute of Dance Moms, they're gonna be like, oh, oh,
- 48:15Speaker 1: hang on, hang on, I gotta see what happens next.
- 48:18Speaker 3: Yes, we will not be turning that. My fortune does
- 48:21Speaker 3: not watch TV. She gets that from her mom. My
- 48:24Speaker 3: wife does not watch TV.
- 48:26Speaker 6: She has zero interest in TV, which is a good
- 48:29Speaker 6: thing where I do have interest, and I think I've
- 48:32Speaker 6: passed that on to my six year old because she
- 48:34Speaker 6: likes watch shows.
- 48:37Speaker 1: It's just amazing how parents live vicariously through their kids
- 48:46Speaker 1: and how they push things on them and are willing
- 48:52Speaker 1: to have eighty to ninety percent of negativity for that,
- 49:00Speaker 1: for that ten reward of the two minutes that their
- 49:06Speaker 1: little girl is on stage looking so pretty and so
- 49:10Speaker 1: graceful with that fake smile on their face, and just like,
- 49:15Speaker 1: what are we doing? Rick? Why?
- 49:17Speaker 3: Why are we?
- 49:18Speaker 1: Why are we doing this? I don't why why am
- 49:22Speaker 1: I watching this?
- 49:23Speaker 6: Yeah, Well it's because it's on and it's just like
- 49:26Speaker 6: if there's food in front of me. I'm going to
- 49:28Speaker 6: eat it and I probably shouldn't have, but I do
- 49:30Speaker 6: because it's there.
- 49:31Speaker 3: And same with the TV. It's there. But here's a
- 49:34Speaker 3: question for everyone.
- 49:36Speaker 6: What is the appropriate age to watch the first Harry
- 49:41Speaker 6: Potter movie? Oh?
- 49:44Speaker 3: What is the.
- 49:44Speaker 6: Appropriate age to watch the first Harry Potter movie? I
- 49:48Speaker 6: guess you can go with all of them if you want,
- 49:50Speaker 6: like all the way up. What is the appropriate age
- 49:52Speaker 6: for number two and number three? And are you a
- 49:54Speaker 6: Harry Potter guy?
- 49:55Speaker 1: I am admittedly okay, I'm so sorry. I apologize in advance.
- 50:04Speaker 1: I'm so sorry to all the Harry Potter fans that stuff.
- 50:10Speaker 1: If I wanted, it's just not my thing. Man, It's like,
- 50:14Speaker 1: if I wanted, I'm so sorry, Rick j D.
- 50:18Speaker 6: I would have pegged you though, for a Harry Potter guy.
- 50:22Speaker 6: What And I'm pretty good at nailing those types of things.
- 50:27Speaker 1: Chriylyn will be the first to tell you. Three minutes
- 50:30Speaker 1: And we've done every single Harry Potter at movie at
- 50:35Speaker 1: my house, all of them. Sherylyn and Lily love him.
- 50:40Speaker 1: Three minutes. And this is what you're getting out of
- 50:42Speaker 1: me during a Harry Potter movie. Three minutes in This
- 50:46Speaker 1: is what you're getting.
- 50:48Speaker 6: Okay, that's my wife during any movie ad telling you
- 50:54Speaker 6: I love me some Harry Potter, but.
- 50:57Speaker 1: Old, yeah, she loves it.
- 51:01Speaker 6: And I'm like, is this appropriate because one of the
- 51:04Speaker 6: problems is her favorite character and he's not even really
- 51:07Speaker 6: in this movie yet.
- 51:08Speaker 3: In the first couple is Lord Voldemort, who's the bad guy. Yes,
- 51:14Speaker 3: oh yeah, she loves she loves her some Harry Potter,
- 51:18Speaker 3: loves Harry Potter.
- 51:20Speaker 1: Just listen, keep Gracie the hell away from Dance Momps.
- 51:25Speaker 1: I'm telling you right now.
- 51:27Speaker 6: That's easy enough because nobody in the house watches it
- 51:29Speaker 6: outside of If you're ever over, I'll make sure I
- 51:33Speaker 6: block the network television.
- 51:36Speaker 1: I'm telling you right now. If me and you and
- 51:39Speaker 1: Murphy end up in a hotel room sometime, I'm telling
- 51:43Speaker 1: you right now, end.
- 51:45Speaker 6: That conversation right there. You, me and Murphy are never
- 51:48Speaker 6: going to end up in a hotel room together.
- 51:51Speaker 3: Ever. I really hope something went terribly wrong if that happened.
- 51:57Speaker 1: I'm just I'm saying right now, if, if, if there's
- 52:01Speaker 1: a possibility that it happens, because hold on, possibilities exist.
- 52:05Speaker 1: I don't want that we we will be watching Dance
- 52:08Speaker 1: Moms we will, it will happen.
- 52:11Speaker 6: Okay, So Tom's another one. He does not watch TV,
- 52:15Speaker 6: does not No, no, I understand, Yeah, you you totally.
- 52:20Speaker 6: Tom's not doesn't act like the guy that watches a
- 52:22Speaker 6: lot of TV.
- 52:23Speaker 1: I hope he doesn't think less of me for what
- 52:27Speaker 1: watching TV? For watching dance Moms.
- 52:30Speaker 6: Oh, for watching dance Moms. Well, I mean there's a
- 52:33Speaker 6: pretty good possibility of that. I mean, listen, you watch
- 52:38Speaker 6: Dance Moms, but you don't watch Harry Potter. So like
- 52:41Speaker 6: that hurts me too.
- 52:44Speaker 1: Uh?
- 52:48Speaker 3: You you are?
- 52:49Speaker 1: You are getting ready to embark on a much deserved,
- 52:56Speaker 1: much deserved vacation, are you able to do?
- 53:02Speaker 3: Tell? Yeah, we're going on a cruise. We're going on
- 53:06Speaker 3: a ship in the middle of the ocean.
- 53:08Speaker 6: And last we went on one last spring break as well,
- 53:11Speaker 6: So our week off at school is the week after
- 53:14Speaker 6: Easter and it was the same last year. First cruise ever,
- 53:18Speaker 6: and man, I was sold, Yeah, I was sold. But
- 53:23Speaker 6: you know, I look at the cruise and I loved
- 53:25Speaker 6: every every aspect of it. I can't think of one
- 53:28Speaker 6: negative thing that I can say about the cruise I
- 53:30Speaker 6: was on. But one thing I think of too, is
- 53:32Speaker 6: like the guilt that comes from going on a cruise.
- 53:36Speaker 6: Like the word gluttony.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Yes, oh my gosh, I know.
- 53:41Speaker 3: I mean, if you don't want to live in a
- 53:43Speaker 3: glutton this world, do not go on.
- 53:45Speaker 1: I believe me.
- 53:47Speaker 3: I know. It is.
- 53:49Speaker 1: The last time.
- 53:50Speaker 3: Food, it's money, it's everything, gluttonous. I know.
- 53:54Speaker 1: Man, listen, the last time I went on a cruise.
- 53:58Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not. I'm not making this up. Seven
- 54:02Speaker 1: pounds in seven days, in seven days, wreck.
- 54:06Speaker 3: That's that's listen. I mean, that's impressive. JD.
- 54:12Speaker 6: Don't worry though. That's a lot of waterway. Since you're
- 54:14Speaker 6: on the ocean. You've probably just soaked.
- 54:15Speaker 1: In some of the water from the sea, and yeah,
- 54:20Speaker 1: keep it coming, thank you.
- 54:21Speaker 3: Yeah, that's exactly that's it's waterway, thank you. Yeah. So
- 54:27Speaker 3: I'm excited. We're super excited. You know. We usually we
- 54:31Speaker 3: usually go to the Ocean City. We used to do
- 54:33Speaker 3: Ocean City every summer. That would be vacation. But you know,
- 54:35Speaker 3: it's a lot of work. Drive five and a half
- 54:38Speaker 3: hours day one.
- 54:39Speaker 6: You go to the grocery store and you buy seven
- 54:41Speaker 6: days worth of food, which is very expensive. And of
- 54:44Speaker 6: course you're cleaning the house all week and you're trying
- 54:47Speaker 6: to find things to do that cruise.
- 54:49Speaker 3: You just don't even think about that kind of stuff.
- 54:51Speaker 3: You do whatever you want.
- 54:53Speaker 6: I can take my six year old to the play
- 54:57Speaker 6: place thing and she can say that for an hour
- 55:00Speaker 6: or two and we can do what we want for
- 55:02Speaker 6: a while.
- 55:02Speaker 3: Can't do that in Ocean City. So excited, super super excited.
- 55:08Speaker 1: You know what's coming, you know what's coming, what's coming,
- 55:15Speaker 1: you know what the view is going to be, the
- 55:17Speaker 1: food is going to be, the entertainment, you know everything.
- 55:20Speaker 6: Oh absolutely, it's amazing. Yeah, that's exactly right. So I'm
- 55:25Speaker 6: so excited about it. Our family is so excited. There's
- 55:28Speaker 6: twelve of us going. It's gonna be it's gonna be
- 55:31Speaker 6: a great time.
- 55:32Speaker 3: I'm trying. I'm trying to convince Tom that we need
- 55:36Speaker 3: a Sweethearts and Heroes cruise. And this is j D.
- 55:40Speaker 6: This is when you want to admit of being part
- 55:42Speaker 6: of the family so that you can get on the cruise.
- 55:47Speaker 3: That's right, that's right, representing every Wednesday.
- 55:51Speaker 6: Absolutely, see Tom, he's a part of the crew, part
- 55:54Speaker 6: of the team, part of the family.
- 55:56Speaker 5: Bro.
- 55:56Speaker 1: So you guys, I don't know if you guys would
- 55:59Speaker 1: be a to handle me on a cruise. I really
- 56:03Speaker 1: I don't.
- 56:03Speaker 3: Those we can we can block each other. The ships are.
- 56:07Speaker 1: Big final question for you, man, and this is this
- 56:13Speaker 1: is a serious one. How How was it possible, honestly
- 56:22Speaker 1: that you could survive forty seven hours in a vehicle
- 56:32Speaker 1: next to Tom Murphy.
- 56:34Speaker 6: Oh gosh, there's no way I could survive forty seven
- 56:37Speaker 6: hours next to Tom Murphy.
- 56:39Speaker 1: Oh, I thought, I thought, you guys, did you did
- 56:42Speaker 1: forty seven hours traveling together?
- 56:44Speaker 3: We do? But separately?
- 56:46Speaker 1: Oh okay, yes, dude, not.
- 56:50Speaker 3: There's very rare times.
- 56:52Speaker 6: Because, first of all, if Tom Murphy's in my car,
- 56:54Speaker 6: all I'm gonna listen to.
- 56:55Speaker 3: Is him on the phone.
- 56:56Speaker 1: Yeah, right, that is it.
- 56:59Speaker 6: So no, I could not survive forty seven hours. We
- 57:02Speaker 6: don't travel in the same car, we don't share a
- 57:04Speaker 6: hotel room.
- 57:05Speaker 3: Yeah, we need our space. We see each other enough. Yeah,
- 57:09Speaker 3: you know, Tom says how much he loves me. But
- 57:11Speaker 3: I'm telling you, even after that, he would he would
- 57:13Speaker 3: not like me.
- 57:14Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:15Speaker 6: I listened to garbage books in the car. He would
- 57:18Speaker 6: not want to listen to my garbage books in the car.
- 57:21Speaker 3: Yeah. But yeah, so forty seven hours in the car
- 57:23Speaker 3: a long time.
