After a brush with osteomyelitis as a boy, Craig Johnston was advised not to play any contact sports and so he took up cricket, progressing to opening the batting and bowling at Northern New South Wales, but an obsession with the England football World Cup winning side of '66, saw him set off on a journey to trial with Jackie Charlton at Middlesborough, then on to be a big part of the legendary Liverpool side of the 1980s.
