- 0:24Speaker 1: Hey guys, Jeffrey here from Piss and Fist. Here are
- 0:26Speaker 1: you going?
- 0:26Speaker 2: I'm here with Chrispy from Heavy May. We're going to
- 0:29Speaker 2: talk piston Fish stuff.
- 0:32Speaker 3: Beautiful Jeffrey, thanks for joining us, brother too good.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I'm stoked to be here. Chrispy, cheers for having me.
- 0:38Speaker 3: Always a pleasure, mate. So, Piston Fish premiere your new
- 0:41Speaker 3: track Repent this Friday, October the eleventh. So how you
- 0:44Speaker 3: felt about it?
- 0:45Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 0:46Speaker 2: Really stoked, by far, the heaviest one that we've written.
- 0:51Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, really really stoked and really keen to
- 0:54Speaker 2: hear some feedback from him.
- 0:56Speaker 3: And you mentioned that it is the heaviest one that
- 0:58Speaker 3: you've ever written, mate, So what made you decide to
- 1:01Speaker 3: go heavier? Like you've got You've got your niece in
- 1:03Speaker 3: the hard rock scene where you are, so why go heavier?
- 1:08Speaker 1: Made it? Wasn't I suppose the hard rock thing was
- 1:15Speaker 1: probably a little bit wiser.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Our original guitarist, he wrote a bunch of our first tracks.
- 1:21Speaker 2: We've got a bit of a new lineup and that's
- 1:24Speaker 2: that's the that's the school we're from when it comes
- 1:28Speaker 2: down to it. You know myself, Maddy even surf like
- 1:35Speaker 2: like we you know, we're Australian heavy rock all day long,
- 1:40Speaker 2: but we're still Pantera, Curple Tour Machine had you know,
- 1:45Speaker 2: that's the ship that's well personally, that's the ship I
- 1:48Speaker 2: grew up on proper, So that influence was always gonna
- 1:52Speaker 2: come out sooner or later, and I just think it's,
- 1:56Speaker 2: you know, it's just come out. We've got a bunch
- 1:58Speaker 2: of new tracks that we're we've written that are gone,
- 2:01Speaker 2: that's the first track off the album.
- 2:04Speaker 1: And we've got a.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Bunch of new tracks that we've written that have kicked
- 2:08Speaker 2: back a little bit, you know, but but yeah, that's
- 2:12Speaker 2: I don't know, We're I've set it from the start,
- 2:16Speaker 2: and I really like the idea of writing and playing
- 2:21Speaker 2: songs that you enjoy, not not sticking to a particular
- 2:26Speaker 2: niche or whatever because that's what you should do or
- 2:29Speaker 2: that's where you've been pigeonholed. I've just gone, you know,
- 2:34Speaker 2: let's just do what we enjoy doing. And if this
- 2:36Speaker 2: is what comes out when we're writing songs and we're
- 2:38Speaker 2: all grin and like dickheads while we're while we're playing it,
- 2:42Speaker 2: then let's fucking do it. You know, you won't you
- 2:45Speaker 2: won't find any black metal or death metal with us.
- 2:48Speaker 2: But you know, this is this is this is pretty
- 2:51Speaker 2: much as heavy as it gets.
- 2:52Speaker 1: I think.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Well, it also comes to pretty cool music video too, bro,
- 2:56Speaker 3: So tell us what's going on there.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Yeah, we we worked pretty hard on that one.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Kile worked really really hard on that one. He bus
- 3:05Speaker 1: these balls.
- 3:08Speaker 2: We found a place that we probably I'm not too
- 3:12Speaker 2: sure how legals roll with this, but we made our
- 3:15Speaker 2: way in there, you know, and it was a really
- 3:19Speaker 2: really cool, cool place to run the video. And yeah,
- 3:22Speaker 2: I'm really stoked with the outcome. It come up really good.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Now, you mentioned that it is part of a new
- 3:28Speaker 3: album cycle, Bro, what more can you tell us about that?
- 3:31Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's the plan.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Manent you know, we've got we've got a we've got
- 3:35Speaker 2: a bit of stuff demoed, and we're just working our
- 3:40Speaker 2: bums off behind the scenes.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Again. Now, this is just what you're doing it.
- 3:43Speaker 2: You know, we released that one, we've toured it, we
- 3:46Speaker 2: released Redline and to it a bit, and now we've
- 3:50Speaker 2: got to get something something else.
- 3:51Speaker 1: So we're pushing for June July ish.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Hopefully we can get something out then and it'll all
- 3:59Speaker 2: come together really really nice.
- 4:01Speaker 3: You mentioned the album red Line which was your debut
- 4:04Speaker 3: album release last year. So was it received as well
- 4:06Speaker 3: as you hope?
- 4:08Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, It's funny.
- 4:09Speaker 2: I just I just did a little bit of homework
- 4:12Speaker 2: before the interview and I read a bit of Jimmy
- 4:16Speaker 2: Listener's review and it was an absolute piece. So yeah,
- 4:20Speaker 2: you know, we did get some really good reviews.
- 4:22Speaker 1: It sold really well in Europe. We sold out.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I should have taken more copies. I kind of stuffed
- 4:28Speaker 2: up there. So yeah, I'm really really stoked. We don't
- 4:32Speaker 2: have a great deal of copies left of actual you know, vinyl,
- 4:38Speaker 2: but yeah, you know, I'm super stoked with it, and
- 4:41Speaker 2: just we're all really keen now to write again. There's
- 4:45Speaker 2: a couple of new guys in the band since we
- 4:47Speaker 2: wrote Redline. Everybody's got different influences, so I'm expecting something special.
- 4:53Speaker 3: So what lessons learn out of making Redline do you
- 4:56Speaker 3: think you'll take into the next one?
- 5:01Speaker 1: That's interesting.
- 5:02Speaker 2: It's well, I'm not sure if it's it's lessons as such,
- 5:06Speaker 2: but you know, I've put the guitar down now we've
- 5:09Speaker 2: got a full time rhythm guitarist in there, so that's
- 5:14Speaker 2: taken a bit of pressure and a bit of extra
- 5:16Speaker 2: work off me. I don't have to worry too much
- 5:18Speaker 2: about two things. When I go in the studio, I
- 5:22Speaker 2: can just worry about nailing vocals.
- 5:25Speaker 1: You know.
- 5:25Speaker 2: That's a bit of a win. And we had two
- 5:29Speaker 2: different drummers work on Redline as well. We're just going
- 5:33Speaker 2: to be nice and solid with Ryan this time.
- 5:37Speaker 1: You know.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Ryan's been a great addition to the band. He's working
- 5:41Speaker 2: really hard.
- 5:42Speaker 1: The same with Sev. He's busting balls. So yeah, I think,
- 5:47Speaker 1: if anything, it should be an.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Easier process after rolling the first whole album, we should.
- 5:56Speaker 1: Should through it with no dramas.
- 5:58Speaker 3: Yeah, are you not too long back from your first
- 6:02Speaker 3: international tour through the UK and Europe with Sin Soto
- 6:05Speaker 3: and Chaos just made like how did that go?
- 6:07Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 6:07Speaker 2: It was amazing. Europe was dope. I cannot cannot say
- 6:13Speaker 2: that enough. They've just got their shit together when it
- 6:15Speaker 2: comes to live shows, people going out, people turning up
- 6:20Speaker 2: the shows. You know, we had good crowds on Tuesday
- 6:24Speaker 2: nights in Europe. It was ridiculous for you know, none
- 6:29Speaker 2: of us were super well known over there, so we
- 6:32Speaker 2: had to work to pull the crowd and they turned
- 6:35Speaker 2: up and the amount that you get looked after in
- 6:41Speaker 2: comparison to Brisbane. You know, like we turned up the
- 6:44Speaker 2: shows and they just here's the food, here's the piece.
- 6:47Speaker 2: You know, what do you need?
- 6:48Speaker 1: What do you want that?
- 6:50Speaker 2: They were just just amazing. And I know it's a
- 6:53Speaker 2: money thing over here. The money's not in the venues
- 6:55Speaker 2: to look after bands up well, but yeah it was.
- 6:59Speaker 1: It was a bit not.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Hard to come back to, but you know it's an
- 7:04Speaker 2: eye not to say the least, and brilliant it. We
- 7:07Speaker 2: self funded it, so it did it hurt financially, but
- 7:11Speaker 2: well well worth it. I don't think any of the
- 7:13Speaker 2: boys who got any regrets. Yeah, it was well worth
- 7:16Speaker 2: it and can't wait to go back. I just all
- 7:20Speaker 2: of the boys just you know, tourings what it's about,
- 7:23Speaker 2: isn't it.
- 7:24Speaker 1: So we were stoked.
- 7:26Speaker 3: And your music was really well received over there for
- 7:28Speaker 3: more report it was your best to your story, our.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Best to a story. There's a lot mate.
- 7:38Speaker 2: We had a We had an absolute cracker in Chech
- 7:41Speaker 2: the guy that owned the vin venue. Him and his
- 7:44Speaker 2: father built the venue by hand with these big rocks
- 7:48Speaker 2: and ship It was insane. They built it on like
- 7:51Speaker 2: the idea of a Viking hall and it was ridiculous
- 7:56Speaker 2: and you know, there was a chacuzzi for the bands
- 7:59Speaker 2: out the back. Everything was laid out ridiculously. Well, the best,
- 8:04Speaker 2: probably the best crowd that we had in Europe was
- 8:08Speaker 2: at that venue. And yeah, the best venue we played with,
- 8:11Speaker 2: the best crowd with the probably the best or the
- 8:15Speaker 2: most we've.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Been looked after that.
- 8:17Speaker 2: That place was exceptional and they partied that they didn't
- 8:21Speaker 2: shut up till about seven point thirty in the morning,
- 8:26Speaker 2: and a few of the crew had to walk back.
- 8:29Speaker 2: I won't say names, but they were mounted like like
- 8:32Speaker 2: it was. That was the party. That was the absolute
- 8:35Speaker 2: pissa right there.
- 8:37Speaker 1: It was. It was epic and it's one of them
- 8:39Speaker 1: venues that, you.
- 8:40Speaker 5: Know, if if we were to get to certain heights
- 8:45Speaker 5: and we absolutely killed it, that would be a venue
- 8:48Speaker 5: that I would work hard on going back to every
- 8:51Speaker 5: time we went to Europe, no matter what, you know,
- 8:53Speaker 5: I would go back and look after that guy as
- 8:56Speaker 5: well as as he looked after us kind of thing.
- 9:00Speaker 2: You know, like he was saying he had ginger in
- 9:02Speaker 2: there a few years ago and they absolutely killed it.
- 9:05Speaker 2: But now we can't get them back because they're at
- 9:07Speaker 2: that height, you know. So yeah, I'd like to you know,
- 9:13Speaker 2: if it was ever big dreams Forrah, but if we
- 9:16Speaker 2: got to that height, this is a place that I
- 9:19Speaker 2: would go back to to say thank you and to
- 9:22Speaker 2: pack his venue and make sure he turned over some
- 9:24Speaker 2: money because the guy was an absolute champion and it
- 9:27Speaker 2: was like that everywhere Chrispy like you know this guy.
- 9:30Speaker 2: The boys were in the Chakuzi having a drink and
- 9:32Speaker 2: the guy that owned the venue came over and said,
- 9:34Speaker 2: you guys ride for a drink?
- 9:35Speaker 1: What do you want?
- 9:37Speaker 2: And ow thend guy said, I'd love I'd love a
- 9:39Speaker 2: shot of Jaeger and I may just turn around went bottle.
- 9:43Speaker 2: He goes, no, no, just a shot, It'll be good,
- 9:45Speaker 2: and he went a bottle and came back with a
- 9:47Speaker 2: bottle of Jaeger for him.
- 9:48Speaker 1: You know, this is like looked after proper.
- 9:54Speaker 3: I've also recently signed with Rising Australian X Music. So
- 9:58Speaker 3: tell us about that partnership and what opens up for
- 10:00Speaker 3: Piston pist.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Yeah, we're super stoked with it.
- 10:04Speaker 2: You know, you know Tim, he works hard, he's he's
- 10:09Speaker 2: already looked after us as.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Far as you know.
- 10:12Speaker 2: The Alice Cooper shows, Smashing Pumpkins, Change ad Dition that
- 10:18Speaker 2: them shows were huge for us and we're very very
- 10:22Speaker 2: lucky to be able to play on them shows. And
- 10:25Speaker 2: you know yourself and Chris had yourself and Tim had
- 10:29Speaker 2: quite a bit to do with that. So we've he's
- 10:32Speaker 2: already proven himself to us as far as we're concerned
- 10:35Speaker 2: his work ethics there and yeah, really looking forward to
- 10:40Speaker 2: having a good time and working hard with him. It's funny,
- 10:44Speaker 2: you know, it just seems like now you've you've signed
- 10:47Speaker 2: your contract. Now it's now we've just got to work
- 10:50Speaker 2: harder to make it all work, which isn't it's not
- 10:54Speaker 2: necessarily a bad thing, but you know, we just can't
- 10:57Speaker 2: take our foot off that pedal. We've got to push
- 10:59Speaker 2: hard and make sure that we've got a product for
- 11:02Speaker 2: Tim to be able to promote.
- 11:03Speaker 1: That's what we're after.
- 11:05Speaker 3: Now we're running out of time, brother, but you've got
- 11:07Speaker 3: a few shows coming up. The first is Dimebag Memorial
- 11:11Speaker 3: Show at the back Room in Brisbane on December seventh,
- 11:13Speaker 3: and then you've got Monk and Pedal Festival on January
- 11:16Speaker 3: fourth with like Thieves, Area seven, Punk Rock, Hillbilly and Moore.
- 11:20Speaker 3: So they both sound like pretty cool shows.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Yeah, looking looking very forward to both of them. We're
- 11:26Speaker 2: we're not going to be able to play a great
- 11:27Speaker 2: deal of shows in Brisbane next year because we're going
- 11:29Speaker 2: to be really busy.
- 11:30Speaker 1: So we're looking forward to both of them.
- 11:33Speaker 2: The Pantera Show, the Dimebag Tribute that's free entry, so
- 11:37Speaker 2: we're expecting a pretty big, pretty big night on that one.
- 11:41Speaker 2: And then you know Monk and Pedal that's that's a
- 11:44Speaker 2: cracking lineup and bright Side's always a win outside and
- 11:48Speaker 2: inside there at Brightside. So yeah, both of them shows
- 11:51Speaker 2: should be absolute pissers.
- 11:55Speaker 3: But in the meantime, Piston fis have you a new single,
- 11:57Speaker 3: Repent premier in this Friday, an absolutely cracker and he's
- 12:01Speaker 3: heavy as bowls as Jeffrey bull It best Black with
- 12:04Speaker 3: a bride will catch up saying.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Yeah, cheers, Chris, thanks for having me man, and get
- 12:09Speaker 2: your ease on for a pent legends.
