1:52
Speaker 2: It's Rob Real Hey doing man, Good morning, Not enough
1:54
Speaker 2: Struther Martin in my life by the way, yes, wave
1:58
Speaker 2: got here? Is it to communicate? You're gonna get your
2:02
Speaker 2: mind right, get I get people extra points, you know,
2:06
Speaker 2: because I've used that same intro for five years since
2:09
Speaker 2: I started doing the show'll be six years come May.
2:12
Speaker 2: And if people can get all of the references Struther
2:15
Speaker 2: Martin and and of course they righty rowdy roddy Piper
2:18
Speaker 2: and and the and that's they live right okay, and
2:22
Speaker 2: towards the end the Rick Flair woo. Yeah. Well, I
2:25
Speaker 2: would think that's the easy speaking of obscure references. I'm
2:28
Speaker 2: looking across the glass. Uh, this will be completely lost
2:32
Speaker 2: on him. Uh. We need to come up with the
2:34
Speaker 2: karaoke version of me and missus Jones. That needs to
2:37
Speaker 2: be Danny Jones. Okay, all right, Dave and Danny Jones.
2:43
Speaker 2: Danny Jones, Dandy Jones.
2:44
Speaker 1: They got a thing go.
2:47
Speaker 2: You didn't know. You didn't know that you were going
2:48
Speaker 2: to get a free concert. You know on the show
2:50
Speaker 2: that I would sing more, but then we'd have to
2:53
Speaker 2: write a check to Ascal. Yeah, or you know, and
2:55
Speaker 2: you can actually sing unlike unlike certain people in this room.
3:00
Speaker 2: As my father used to say, who used to book
3:03
Speaker 2: gospel groups for his church. That boy sings in the
3:06
Speaker 2: key of L and then he say, well that sounds
3:08
Speaker 2: like al before we get into the sock drops happening
3:13
Speaker 2: this Thursday. That's why you're here on our parking eleven
3:16
Speaker 2: eleven for Ginger, Das and Charleston have to ask you you,
3:18
Speaker 2: being a native Indianaian, don't you call yourself INDIANAPA. No,
3:22
Speaker 2: they are by law, actually they are Hoosiers Hoosiers, Okay,
3:26
Speaker 2: all right, Hey you feel about this National Championship game
3:29
Speaker 2: tonight between Indiana Miami. It is more than a dy
3:32
Speaker 2: ne nym in my family. First wife and my niece
3:36
Speaker 2: are both alumnae of Indiana University. So I like little
3:40
Speaker 2: skin in the game. I may or may not have
3:42
Speaker 2: written a check or two to the Indiana University system.
3:47
Speaker 2: It's gonna be a whole lot of fun. I don't
3:49
Speaker 2: expect there to be a lot of I don't expect
3:51
Speaker 2: there to be a lot.
3:52
Speaker 4: Of defense to be played.
3:53
Speaker 2: Okay, in this particular game, I would bet the over,
3:58
Speaker 2: but I kind of like the Hoosiers to cover. You know.
4:00
Speaker 2: The interesting thing about about Indiana is and everybody you know,
4:05
Speaker 2: or the suit schools, the thought in Indiana there's those
4:08
Speaker 2: that say, wow, what a great story. Because they've lost
4:10
Speaker 2: more games I think in Division one or something like that.
4:13
Speaker 2: Even if they win tonight, they're still the losingest program.
4:15
Speaker 2: In division in history. And then but then are those
4:17
Speaker 2: who said, well, they bought and paid for this team
4:20
Speaker 2: a couple of well, welcome to college athletics. Okay, that's
4:23
Speaker 2: how it works. Okay, google Eric Dickerson and transam and
4:28
Speaker 2: see where that takes you. This is not new, you know,
4:30
Speaker 2: it's not new. It's just and now. I mean, you
4:32
Speaker 2: got players that are making like five they're making more
4:35
Speaker 2: money in college than what rookie way more than what
4:39
Speaker 2: rookie contracts are in the NFL at this point. And
4:42
Speaker 2: you know, you can't put the ketchup back in the bottle,
4:45
Speaker 2: as they say, so, what are you gonna The numbers
4:47
Speaker 2: may be they the numbers are a bit bloated at
4:51
Speaker 2: this point. I think that'll come back to earth at
4:53
Speaker 2: some point. But I'm always going to be the guy
4:55
Speaker 2: who's in favor of workers having control of where they
4:59
Speaker 2: go and how much they make. And finally college athletes
5:01
Speaker 2: have that. I still remember, and I brought this up
5:04
Speaker 2: on the show before watching one of the thirty for
5:06
Speaker 2: thirties on the Fab five out of Michigan and Chris
5:11
Speaker 2: Webber talking about and nobody's ever going to believe that
5:14
Speaker 2: a player like Chris Webber wasn't taking care of even
5:16
Speaker 2: back in the nineties in some way. But he talked
5:20
Speaker 2: about going in to a McDonald's and he was trying
5:23
Speaker 2: to scrape together enough money for a happy meal while
5:27
Speaker 2: his jersey was being sold at the Michigan bookstore for
5:31
Speaker 2: like one hundred and fifty bucks and it didn't have
5:34
Speaker 2: his name on it at that time, but it was
5:36
Speaker 2: number four, which everybody knew if you're a fan of
5:39
Speaker 2: Michigan at that time, that was his number. So I mean,
5:42
Speaker 2: there's something wrong there. His teammate Jalen Rose put it
5:45
Speaker 2: pretty well. He said, in those days, big things were
5:48
Speaker 2: taking care of like house for mama and car for you,
5:51
Speaker 2: but like the walking around money wasn't happening. And that's
5:55
Speaker 2: actually one of the big problems for college athletes, speaking
5:57
Speaker 2: of walking around. What a segment reason we have you
6:00
Speaker 2: here to today's to talk by the way I would do,
6:02
Speaker 2: I want to mention you can catch the game tonight.
6:04
Speaker 2: We have the coveraging game on a WHS network. Let's
6:07
Speaker 2: get to the sock drop, all right? How many years
6:10
Speaker 2: with this is our third annual third I think when
6:12
Speaker 2: you hit three year allowed to call it a tradition. Okay,
6:14
Speaker 2: it's a tradition. So third annual sock drop. How does
6:17
Speaker 2: it work? So our drop events are very simple. You
6:21
Speaker 2: bring us the thing we're asking for. You loop through
6:23
Speaker 2: our parking lot, you hand it to us and the
6:25
Speaker 2: folks from Union Mission, Jason, Bryan, Mighty Joe, whoever might
6:29
Speaker 2: be here at the time, and then you go on
6:31
Speaker 2: your way. You don't have to get out of your nice, warm,
6:32
Speaker 2: comfortable vehicle. And with the way the wind is cutting
6:35
Speaker 2: through today, that is definitely definitely a plus seven in
6:39
Speaker 2: the morning till six in the east Thursday. This Thursday,
6:42
Speaker 2: you stop buying. You bring us brand new socks or
6:45
Speaker 2: a cash or check donation for Union Mission. The bulk
6:48
Speaker 2: buying power they have is substantial. But if you're one
6:51
Speaker 2: of those folks that you need to hand something over,
6:54
Speaker 2: that's just how your brain works. Ain't no shame in it.
6:57
Speaker 2: New socks, whether it's a pair or a package, or
7:00
Speaker 2: or a bag or a box. Uh you know, whether
7:02
Speaker 2: it's hand it to us through the window, or hey,
7:04
Speaker 2: I got a bunch in to back up pop a
7:05
Speaker 2: hatch for you. Uh we will, we will do all
7:08
Speaker 2: the heavy lifting. Such as it is. Socks, aren't that heavy,
7:11
Speaker 2: but and then you just roll on your way. Yeah
7:13
Speaker 2: and again. Uh, we asked that they be new socks.
7:17
Speaker 2: Obviously we appreciate everything we can get, but this is
7:21
Speaker 2: not an opportunity for you to clean out your sock drawer.
7:23
Speaker 2: I mean, we do want new socks. Even if it's
7:25
Speaker 2: just one pair, that's fine. Then that's fine. One pair,
7:28
Speaker 2: multiple pairs, boxes of pairs, we don't care. And it's
7:31
Speaker 2: actually a health department thing since we are a third
7:34
Speaker 2: party running one of these that they've they've got to
7:37
Speaker 2: be new if we were if we were doing bras
7:39
Speaker 2: and bridges, it'd be the same way. So they do
7:42
Speaker 2: have to be brand new in package or you know,
7:44
Speaker 2: still tagged and wrapped up. His bras and bridges sound
7:47
Speaker 2: like something Mountain would do, let's say it, said Steve Animal.
7:50
Speaker 2: I was thinking it was one of one of Woody's
7:52
Speaker 2: parties over at the Red Card possibly possibly possibly.
7:57
Speaker 5: Friday night bra.
8:00
Speaker 2: That's it's a very good way to look, by the way,
8:03
Speaker 2: too bad. He's not awake to hear it. And so,
8:06
Speaker 2: and I know I'm not normally somebody that that says
8:10
Speaker 2: go out and support change, okay change soorce. However, with
8:14
Speaker 2: something like this your your deal. Your better deals are
8:17
Speaker 2: going to be found at your at, your Allie's, your daughter, general,
8:21
Speaker 2: your beg lots. They know me at at, they know
8:24
Speaker 2: me at Marshalls and TJ max in South Charleston real
8:28
Speaker 2: well these days, because just about it. Any time I'm
8:30
Speaker 2: shopping for anything else, oh hey, those are on clearance,
8:34
Speaker 2: I'll grab those. And so there's a there are already
8:36
Speaker 2: a pretty good stockpile at the real estate that's going
8:39
Speaker 2: to get as started on Thursday morning indeed, and again
8:41
Speaker 2: seven am until six pm. It's on our parking. The
8:43
Speaker 2: weather's actually looking up. Everybody's looking to this weekend when
8:47
Speaker 2: we're supposed to have this big snowstorm. And by the way,
8:49
Speaker 2: it's still too early to tell. And that's meteorologists will
8:52
Speaker 2: tell you that, you know, don't worry about this weekend.
8:55
Speaker 2: But I can tell you that unless something majorly changes,
8:59
Speaker 2: this Thursday is actually looking pretty good. Gonna get a
9:02
Speaker 2: little cloud cover, and again it could change a lot,
9:04
Speaker 2: but little cloud cover. It looks like right now, probably
9:06
Speaker 2: in the low to mid forties, not horrible for January.
9:09
Speaker 2: And so when you go out today and you feel
9:12
Speaker 2: that wind cut through you, maybe you forgot your gloves
9:15
Speaker 2: or your hat, and you're feeling how cold it is
9:18
Speaker 2: to you just maybe going from the car into work,
9:22
Speaker 2: or from the car into see a client or out
9:24
Speaker 2: to lunch. Now, think about folks who don't have a
9:28
Speaker 2: whole lot, who desperately need a new pair of dry,
9:32
Speaker 2: clean socks, and they are dealing with that every single day. Yeah,
9:37
Speaker 2: increasing clouds in forty seven on Wednesday and Thursday sounds great,
9:41
Speaker 2: but it's gonna get down to like twelve tonight. Yeah,
9:44
Speaker 2: and that's mighty cold. That wind coming in off the river.
9:48
Speaker 2: It'll chill you to the bone. And if you don't
9:50
Speaker 2: have someplace necessarily warm to go to, that can hit
9:54
Speaker 2: you twice as hard. So those are the folks we
9:56
Speaker 2: are trying to help on Thursday, talking about our sock drop,
9:59
Speaker 2: which is going to be the Thursday seven al six
10:01
Speaker 2: pm on our parking lot. Here a to eleven eleven
10:03

10:15
Speaker 2: Com and socks rob are the single most requested items
10:18
Speaker 2: everywhere you go, regardless of the shelter or service provider.
10:22
Speaker 2: Any time of year, socks are the most requested, much
10:26
Speaker 2: more this time of year, when it's cold and wet
10:29
Speaker 2: and windy, and the beauty is you don't have to
10:31
Speaker 2: worry about size, you don't have to worry about color.
10:34
Speaker 2: It's it's easy to just grab a pair or a
10:38
Speaker 2: package off the rack wherever you're shopping. Maybe you're preparing
10:42
Speaker 2: for that snow that may or may not come this weekend.
10:44
Speaker 2: You're gonna go get your French toast kit as I
10:46
Speaker 2: like to call it, the bread, the eggs, and the milk,
10:48
Speaker 2: and you know, swing through if it's you know, you're
10:51
Speaker 2: going to the Gucci this or the Bougie that, and
10:54
Speaker 2: you grab some socks and come see us on Thursday
10:56
Speaker 2: and again, this is one of those events that we do.
10:58
Speaker 2: We do a couple of these type of things, but
11:00
Speaker 2: you're going to see all of us out there. This
11:01
Speaker 2: is kind of kind of your baby, but you know,
11:05
Speaker 2: we're all going to be out there, all of our
11:06
Speaker 2: station V one hundred the Mountain kz CCHS. The beat
11:10
Speaker 2: will all be out there on the parking lot there's
11:12
Speaker 2: at any given time, and we bring in the sales weasels,
11:15
Speaker 2: and we bring in the office staff and so on,
11:17
Speaker 2: so there'll be three, four or five people out there
11:19
Speaker 2: at the time. And again you can pull into our
11:21
Speaker 2: parking lot and just make that loop. It's an ellipse.
11:24
Speaker 2: The ellipse. I knew he was gonna I knew he
11:25
Speaker 2: was gonna hit me with that, the ellipse in our
11:28
Speaker 2: parking lot. Here the recovering missus Real is a math
11:31
Speaker 2: teacher and she would never ever ever let me get
11:33
Speaker 2: away with calling that a circle. It is an ellipse.
11:35
Speaker 2: And I do want to get a little plug in
11:37
Speaker 2: for an event that we are doing Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
11:40
Speaker 2: I know you'll be there. I'll be there, of course,
11:42
Speaker 2: you know, Chris Lawns will be there. It's the annual
11:44
Speaker 2: hunting Fishing show to Conde's Seaman Convention. Sara looking forward
11:47
Speaker 2: to him.
11:47
Speaker 4: He he's the Elvis of the outdoors, going to be
11:49
Speaker 4: doing West Virginia Outdoor Live on Saturday.
11:53
Speaker 2: Just I feel as though you could say anything Foghorn
11:56
Speaker 2: Leghorn or or Waylon Jennings as the ballad from the
12:00
Speaker 2: Duke's a Hazard and the Chris Lawrence voice. Yeah, the
12:02
Speaker 2: Duke boys better grow some wings or start flapping their arms. Yeah,
12:06
Speaker 2: that's indeed. Indeed, you know he's bigger than you, right,
12:09
Speaker 2: take you out? He can't, Yes, he can. He's all
12:12
Speaker 2: rebuilt too over the last year that he's got new parts.
12:15
Speaker 2: So the six million dollar man, six million dollar news
12:18
Speaker 2: man his Chris Lauren. All right, So again I will
12:21
Speaker 2: have more on the Hunting Fish and show coming it
12:23

Speaker 2: can kind of get people revved up for it. Maybe
12:46
Speaker 2: maybe I'll reveal why it's called drop your socks. Okay,
12:50
Speaker 2: probably actually, actually you've You've told us a little bit
12:53
Speaker 2: of it every year, but I've hinted at it. But
12:56
Speaker 2: it's that is that is dangerous water. There's a trip
12:58
Speaker 2: warrior there that I got to be care explaining it. Well,

14:40
Speaker 7: drinks means I'm gonna need way more paper towels. I
14:43
Speaker 7: don't have time to run to the store. I have
14:45
Speaker 7: to run this party. Oh wait, I've got instacart, had
14:49
Speaker 7: some chips, scrab some Seltzer and wings. Yep, definitely need
14:52

16:55
Speaker 2: the show, I want to welcome in now Republican running
16:58
Speaker 2: for the House in District twenty one Seed Call. Good morning, sir,
17:01
Speaker 2: welcome to the show.
17:02
Speaker 10: Good morning, thanks for having me, Thank.
17:04
Speaker 2: You for being here. Tell us about city callwell, give
17:06
Speaker 2: us your bio.
17:07
Speaker 3: Well, I'm originally from Hurricane. I've lived in the twenty
17:10
Speaker 3: first district for most of all my life. I've been
17:14
Speaker 3: working in public education now for almost thirty years. Currently,
17:17
Speaker 3: i'm the director of Career and Technical Education for Putnam County,
17:19
Speaker 3: the principal of puttam Career and Technical Center.
17:21
Speaker 2: All right, of course you have a day off today
17:25
Speaker 2: for the holiday, so why run for house.
17:29
Speaker 10: I've been.
17:31
Speaker 3: At the Technical Center now for almost eight nine years.
17:34
Speaker 3: When I first got there a lot of students. I
17:37
Speaker 3: was watching a lot of students move out. If they
17:39
Speaker 3: wanted to find work, they'd have to relocate for work.
17:43
Speaker 3: The more I look at it, the more I realize,
17:47
Speaker 3: especially here lately, is when businesses are moving in, they're
17:50
Speaker 3: coming to us to see what we're doing. They're coming
17:53
Speaker 3: to us to see what their future employees may be.
17:56
Speaker 3: And the Republican Party of the City of west Ridge
18:00
Speaker 3: has helped move the needle on economic development in West Virginia,
18:05
Speaker 3: especially in our area. Over the last ten years, it's
18:08
Speaker 3: been a measurable what's what's occurred. I want to be
18:11
Speaker 3: part of that movement.
18:13
Speaker 6: You know.
18:14
Speaker 2: And that's an initioning point that you bring up because
18:16
Speaker 2: you are in a unique position to see that as
18:18
Speaker 2: an educator, because that's a problem that we have is
18:23
Speaker 2: retaining these people because what one of two things happens.
18:27
Speaker 2: Either they leave, they leave go go to college, they
18:31
Speaker 2: go away to a technical school somewhere far away, they
18:33
Speaker 2: go away to the military or whatever the case may be,
18:36
Speaker 2: or they're educated here and then they take jobs in
18:38
Speaker 2: other places.
18:39
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I have kids. A lot of we
18:43
Speaker 3: have kids. A lot of us have kids in our area.
18:46
Speaker 3: We want kids to stay home. The main way to
18:48
Speaker 3: keep our kids home is to have good, high paying
18:51
Speaker 3: jobs for our for our kids. That's the main goal
18:57
Speaker 3: I have right now is bringing businesses in showing what
19:00
Speaker 3: we have shown them the future of what their workforce
19:03
Speaker 3: is going to look like. By being able to do this,
19:07
Speaker 3: keeping our kids at home makes it makes a better
19:09
Speaker 3: community for all of us. Is known we have places
19:12
Speaker 3: for our kids to be. I've watched so many students.
19:16
Speaker 3: I've watched so many people I went to high school with.
19:19
Speaker 3: I've seen so many just good people, good smart people,
19:24
Speaker 3: workers move out of the area because they didn't feel
19:27
Speaker 3: like there was any hope here. And I'm telling you
19:30
Speaker 3: there's a lot of hope in our area now and
19:32
Speaker 3: there's a lot of things going on, and we need
19:36
Speaker 3: to get behind this movement and keep our kids at home.
19:40
Speaker 2: District twenty one. Describe the district to us.
19:43
Speaker 3: The district is pretty much the town of Hurricane down
19:47
Speaker 3: towards the Lincoln County line. It's you got Buff Creek,
19:52
Speaker 3: Writer's Creek, all the creeks down through there, Sycamore. You know,
19:58
Speaker 3: I grew up in Buff Creek, live there most of
20:01
Speaker 3: my life. Live in the valley now, so I'm aware
20:04
Speaker 3: of a lot of the issues there. I know a
20:06
Speaker 3: lot of the people. I'm running for this and this
20:09
Speaker 3: may be good or bad because I know so many
20:11
Speaker 3: people in the area, and I know so many of
20:13
Speaker 3: the people, and if they think I'm doing something bad,
20:15
Speaker 3: they will call and tell me.
20:16
Speaker 2: Everybody knows you over there. Yeah, and so so I
20:19
Speaker 2: think it's kind of interesting to somebody. And again we're
20:21
Speaker 2: talking with CD Collwell, who's the Republican candidate for House
20:23
Speaker 2: of Delegates in District twenty one. I think it's interesting
20:26
Speaker 2: because you've seen the evolution of the area. I don't
20:28
Speaker 2: know exactly how old you are, but I will say
20:30
Speaker 2: you're old enough to probably remember when when that area
20:33
Speaker 2: wasn't like it is now, when it was mainly farmland
20:35
Speaker 2: and things of that nature. I mean, again, I don't
20:37
Speaker 2: want to age you, but fifty one years old, you're
20:41
Speaker 2: younger than I am.
20:42
Speaker 10: So there's that you know, I've had When I was born,
20:45
Speaker 10: I had a bunch of grandparents living.
20:47
Speaker 3: My great grandfather I actually tore down a chicken house
20:51
Speaker 3: in Tay's Valley and built one of the first subdivisions
20:53
Speaker 3: the old u Estates. What was the name of it again,
20:56
Speaker 3: no estate right there by Hurricane Trophy.
20:58
Speaker 2: Okay.
20:59
Speaker 3: He sold the by half of its property so they
21:01
Speaker 3: could build the interstate, and they blasted that out for
21:04
Speaker 3: road base.
21:05
Speaker 10: I remember Taese Valley Road if you remember when it
21:07
Speaker 10: was a two lane road. It's bad now.
21:09
Speaker 3: And that's one of the things you know. I want
21:11
Speaker 3: to work on is try to work on infrastructure. We
21:14
Speaker 3: need someone cheerleading because that's the biggest complain to people
21:16
Speaker 3: in our area right now, it's the biggest complaint infrastructure,
21:20
Speaker 3: the roads. How long it takes to get from Tays
21:24
Speaker 3: Valley to Hurricane. You know, that is an issue and
21:27
Speaker 3: hopefully there's some solutions to that. But yeah, I've definitely
21:30
Speaker 3: watched the evolution of Hurricane. I've watched the subdivisions be
21:33
Speaker 3: built up. I've watched, you know, the schools, the population
21:38
Speaker 3: of the school serge. Now we're watching them decline. But
21:43
Speaker 3: it's it's an exciting time to be there. And we've
21:46
Speaker 3: got more houses coming in. We've got more people wanting
21:49
Speaker 3: to move to our community. What greater testament than the
21:52
Speaker 3: people of the twenty first district is knowing people want
21:55
Speaker 3: to make an investment in your community and move there.
21:59
Speaker 3: Now there are growing pays going to be associated with it,
22:02
Speaker 3: but we need someone that's a cheerleader for that twenty
22:04
Speaker 3: first district and trying to move things forward.
22:07
Speaker 2: Parting to CD Callwell again as a Republican candidate for
22:11
Speaker 2: House of Delegates District twenty one, but Dave Island Show

22:26
Speaker 2: held by a Republican Why do you feel feel that
22:30
Speaker 2: there's a change needed.
22:34
Speaker 10: I'm just I felt like it was my time in life.
22:36
Speaker 3: I've been working with Penton County Development Authority for the
22:39
Speaker 3: last several years, been in the school system forever. It's exciting.
22:44
Speaker 3: I work with major corporations getting students placed some work.
22:48
Speaker 3: I work with small mom and pops getting students into work.
22:53
Speaker 10: I talk to them.
22:53
Speaker 3: I hear a lot of what the concerns they have,
22:56
Speaker 3: a lot of the issues they have. So not only
22:59
Speaker 3: am I dealing with students, but I'm also dealing with
23:01
Speaker 3: a lot of businesses in the area I deal with you.
23:05
Speaker 3: I hear a lot of their complaints about the workers
23:08
Speaker 3: are getting I have a unique perspective that a lot
23:12
Speaker 3: of people don't, being from that area and always being
23:16
Speaker 3: from that area.
23:17
Speaker 2: And being in the field of education, yes as well.
23:20
Speaker 2: I don't know if there's anything necessarily that you can
23:23
Speaker 2: do about this, but I would like to kind of
23:25
Speaker 2: get your take on this because of your quote unquote
23:27
Speaker 2: daytime job, so to speak. We're losing people in our
23:31
Speaker 2: public schools in West Virginia. I mean parents are just
23:34
Speaker 2: choosing other alternatives, whether it's homeschooling or private schooling or
23:39
Speaker 2: whatever the case may be. Is that something concerns you.
23:45
Speaker 3: When I talked to my staff several years ago when
23:47
Speaker 3: this started happening, I told them that.
23:50
Speaker 10: We're gon't lose teachers. Our product has.
23:53
Speaker 3: To be better than anything that anyone can get. The
23:57
Speaker 3: product we put out of the school I work at
23:59
Speaker 3: right now has to be a great product. Twenty nineteen
24:03
Speaker 3: twenty twenty, we had about three hundred and thirty students there.
24:07
Speaker 3: This year, I think right now we have about five
24:09
Speaker 3: hundred and fifty seven students and we have one less
24:12
Speaker 3: program than we had in nineteen twenty.
24:15
Speaker 10: The instructors at that school were.
24:16
Speaker 2: May twenty excuse me, twenty twenty.
24:19
Speaker 3: Yeah, in nineteen twenty, nineteen twenty twenty, we have three thirty.
24:23
Speaker 3: This year we have about five fifty seven, five seventy seven,
24:26
Speaker 3: okay somewhere in there. So the product those instructors put
24:30
Speaker 3: out is bar none. I mean, education is a commodity,
24:34
Speaker 3: and people want to go where they feel like the
24:37
Speaker 3: product's the best.
24:38
Speaker 2: Right well, and I think it's interesting that when we
24:41
Speaker 2: talk about the public school population loss in an area
24:45
Speaker 2: like Putnam County, that's one of the few areas of
24:47
Speaker 2: the state that's growing. I mean, and I talk about
24:49
Speaker 2: it all the time. You got like the Eastern Panhandle
24:51
Speaker 2: and the Morgantown area, but Putnam County is an area
24:54
Speaker 2: that's growing, but yet we got fewer students. And again,
24:56
Speaker 2: parents just have simply you see it, your longtime educator,
24:59
Speaker 2: they just more choices now.
25:01
Speaker 3: And like I said, where I work right now, the
25:03
Speaker 3: product we put forward. We have private school students, we
25:07
Speaker 3: have homeschool students. Every year, our school's open to all,
25:10
Speaker 3: and we do we do take in homeschool students, We
25:13
Speaker 3: take in private school students. Some students their first tastes
25:16
Speaker 3: of public educations coming to our school.
25:18
Speaker 10: And it's great.
25:20
Speaker 2: Again, we're talking with cd collwellhos a candidate for House
25:22
Speaker 2: of Delegates. You know, the and the Democrats went through
25:25
Speaker 2: this for years because there were so many different you know,
25:27
Speaker 2: when the Democrats ruled the state of West Virginia, you
25:29
Speaker 2: had different you had pro business, you had you know,
25:32
Speaker 2: more more liberals. You had, you know a little bit,
25:34
Speaker 2: and now the Republican Party has kind of seen that.
25:36
Speaker 2: It's you know, you have the far right and you
25:38
Speaker 2: have more moderate and you have those that are primarily
25:41
Speaker 2: all about the business issues they call it the Chamber
25:44
Speaker 2: of Commerce issue. Then you have those that are more
25:46
Speaker 2: about the social issues. If you had to describe what
25:48
Speaker 2: type of Republican that you are, maybe that's an unfair question,
25:52
Speaker 2: but what what would it? Where do you lean more?
25:56
Speaker 10: Well, I'm definitely conservative.
25:58
Speaker 3: I'm definitely pro business because without the business support in
26:02
Speaker 3: our area, what's the future for our area. A lot
26:05
Speaker 3: of people do complain about overcrowding, too many people live here.
26:08
Speaker 3: Things of that nature travel around West Virginia. Do you
26:12
Speaker 3: know how many areas in West Virginia would kill to
26:14
Speaker 3: have what we have.
26:15
Speaker 2: That's my exact line. You know, that's trademark. By the way,
26:19
Speaker 2: I'm kidding, kidding, go down to McDowell County and complain.
26:22
Speaker 2: I don't mean that as a disparaging comment about to
26:24
Speaker 2: being with McDowell County. I'm just saying, go down there
26:26
Speaker 2: and complain about a traffic problem.
26:28
Speaker 3: No, we were a group of us went down to
26:30
Speaker 3: mcdall County last year in February and worked on some
26:33
Speaker 3: of the houses that ever been hit by the floods,
26:35
Speaker 3: and we the issues we have in Putnam County in
26:40
Speaker 3: our area are insignificant compared to a lot of other areas.
26:44
Speaker 3: How are we going to move our area forward? Though,
26:46
Speaker 3: that's the big question. And who's gonna be out there
26:49
Speaker 3: helping to lead that charge? Who loves where they live,
26:54
Speaker 3: you know, knows a lot of the people in the area.
26:56
Speaker 3: And I know I'm accountable to those people. I mean,
26:59
Speaker 3: bottom line, if I'm going to be a politician, I'm
27:01
Speaker 3: accountable to the people I work for.
27:03
Speaker 2: Do you have a social media site or Facebook? Or
27:05
Speaker 2: and if I do.
27:07
Speaker 3: Facebook, find me at CD Caldwell. I'm there on Facebook.
27:11
Speaker 3: Have a website called well the Number four, the twenty
27:15
Speaker 3: first dot com.
27:17
Speaker 2: I'll work for the twenty first dot com. Give you
27:19
Speaker 2: the final thirty. As we always say when we have
27:21
Speaker 2: a candidate on WAT, should somebody vote for CD Caldwell
27:23
Speaker 2: for House of Delegates District twenty one.
27:25
Speaker 3: Well, I'm passionate about our kids, no matter where they're from,
27:31
Speaker 3: making sure there's good jobs in our area for them
27:33
Speaker 3: to aspire to when they're ready for those jobs.
27:39
Speaker 10: I want to see the.
27:41
Speaker 3: Business end of our area done responsibly and grow and
27:46
Speaker 3: provide more jobs in our area. And with that comes
27:49
Speaker 3: and grow and pains of our infrastructure issues that we face.
27:52
Speaker 3: Number one complaint most people in our district is infrastructure
27:55
Speaker 3: and what we need to do to fix that. Hopefully
27:58
Speaker 3: we can get that closing interchanged done sooner rather than later.
28:01
Speaker 3: That's going to open up a lot of that lower
28:04
Speaker 3: end to Hurricane. It's it's a mess right now in
28:07
Speaker 3: the mornings. Everyone knows it. We've got to get that
28:10
Speaker 3: exit open sooner rather than later. There's all kinds of
28:14
Speaker 3: traffic engineers at the State Department of Highways and we're
28:17
Speaker 3: will need their help in the future. We will need
28:19
Speaker 3: to help getting Hurricane where it needs to be to
28:23
Speaker 3: make sure people want to live there and want to
28:26
Speaker 3: stay there.
28:27
Speaker 2: City Calwell again, Republican candidate for the House of Delegates
28:30

31:42
Speaker 2: breaking news out of Mason County. Governor's offices out with
31:45
Speaker 2: the statement a coal reformation facility is in the works
31:48
Speaker 2: for Mason County from Terrace, North America, utilizing one hundred
31:52
Speaker 2: and eighty three acres of land and will invest eight
31:55
Speaker 2: hundred and fifty million dollars in the project. That's according
31:58
Speaker 2: to a release from the governor's office. The release said
32:00
Speaker 2: the facility will convert coal into fuel, fertilizers, and industrial
32:04
Speaker 2: carbon products. Estimated that two thousand construction workers and will
32:11
Speaker 2: generate two hundred full time jobs once it's up and operational.
32:15
Speaker 2: And again that information just coming out. It's in Mason
32:19
Speaker 2: County and Governor's officer just out without about ten minutes
32:23
Speaker 2: or so ago. We'll have more on that coming up
32:24
Speaker 2: later today. Two thousand construction jobs, Yeah, takes a lot
32:28
Speaker 2: to build it.
32:29
Speaker 1: Yeah.
32:30
Speaker 2: Actually, I understand that the announcement, this announcement from the
32:36
Speaker 2: company was actually announced in twenty twenty two, but I
32:40
Speaker 2: guess the governor is out with the statement about it today,
32:42
Speaker 2: so it actually TJ tells me that the frontierrace announced
32:46
Speaker 2: and I actually remember it now, but It's kind of
32:48
Speaker 2: jogged my revery a little bit. They announced the investment
32:50
Speaker 2: back in twenty twenty two, but regardless, two thousand construction
32:53
Speaker 2: jobs and two hundred full time jobs when operational, that's
32:56
Speaker 2: good stuff right there. Tex says, Happy birthday, Robert E.

Speaker 2: Lee January nineteenth, eighteen o seven. Texts says, does anyone
33:06

33:08

Speaker 2: long time, not going to be Ohio State, Michigan, or
33:13

33:18
Speaker 2: I should say championship game. Tex says Dave. I know
33:20

34:35
Speaker 12: How darn any I mean darn any books.
34:41
Speaker 5: Left?
34:42
Speaker 12: We are changing publishers, okay, we are getting away from
34:48
Speaker 12: the one we were on and we're we're gonna do
34:51
Speaker 12: it locally here.
34:52
Speaker 2: Okay, all right, well that's good anything you can do
34:54
Speaker 2: locally on one hundred.
34:55
Speaker 12: Percent for it, right, Yeah, Paul metdow Will not.
35:00
Speaker 2: Didn't do very well, Okay, so we'll leave it at that.
35:04
Speaker 2: Get at a post Danny on social media and it
35:07
Speaker 2: got quite a bit of attention. It's just about anything
35:10
Speaker 2: you do gets goods quite a bit of attention. And
35:13
Speaker 2: it had to do with a raid on a local restaurant,
35:17
Speaker 2: as it pertains to ICE. You want to talk about
35:19
Speaker 2: the post and why you did what you did.
35:21
Speaker 12: Yeah, first thing that used to be my restaurant, the
35:28
Speaker 12: physical building itself.
35:29
Speaker 2: Yeah, and.
35:31
Speaker 12: It's the real Grand restaurant. And last night, yesterday afternoon,
35:40
Speaker 12: a group of ICE agents went in there and dressed
35:48
Speaker 12: in civilian clothes and they ate and they cased the place,
35:55
Speaker 12: and then they went over to Kroger's and then they
35:58
Speaker 12: put on their costumes and then they came back over
36:04
Speaker 12: there and raided the place.
36:05
Speaker 2: Okay, And you said what on the social media, because
36:08
Speaker 2: you've since deleted it? Right then you tell me you
36:10
Speaker 2: took it down.
36:10
Speaker 12: You know, I don't quite remember what I did, but
36:15
Speaker 12: it was negative. I mean towards towards ICE. And look,
36:22
Speaker 12: I don't know what's going on in Minnesota. I don't
36:25
Speaker 12: know why they're doing what they're doing. Maybe they're just
36:29
Speaker 12: I saw a video of one lady and she was
36:33
Speaker 12: Mexican and she they went into her yard and they
36:41
Speaker 12: profiled her after for ID and she wouldn't give them
36:45
Speaker 12: a DA. And there's some case law on that which
36:48
Speaker 12: I find interesting. But then they arrested her and took
36:53
Speaker 12: her away.
36:54
Speaker 2: So what Okay, let's get back to the situation with
36:56
Speaker 2: the restaurant in Nitro. And we saw some of this
36:58
Speaker 2: last week. There was a report that had circulated about
37:01
Speaker 2: an incident that took place in the Yeah, and I'm
37:03
Speaker 2: not in Tays Valley, but go ahead.
37:05
Speaker 12: I'm not necessarily against ICE. I think the Trump administration
37:12
Speaker 12: has done a really good job on the border, a
37:15
Speaker 12: real good job. And the Biden administration on to be
37:19
Speaker 12: ashamed of itself for opening up that border, letting old
37:24
Speaker 12: people come across from countries all over the world. But
37:30
Speaker 12: to do that to Miguel to real GRANDI, I questioned
37:36
Speaker 12: the use of the resources. First thing, they went there
37:40
Speaker 12: at eight at government expense. Then they went over to
37:43
Speaker 12: change clothes. Then they went over to raid the place
37:48
Speaker 12: while I was open, and apparently there was one guy
37:51
Speaker 12: on the roof. And I just wonder about the expenditure
37:56
Speaker 12: of resources to when we're a country that's a trade
38:03
Speaker 12: and a half dollars in debt every and increases every year,
38:09
Speaker 12: and is this a good way to spend money to
38:13
Speaker 12: raid a Mexican restaurant in Nitro.
38:17
Speaker 2: But there would be people, though Danny and I'll play
38:19
Speaker 2: Devil's advocate, there would be people that would say, and again,
38:23
Speaker 2: we don't know all the particulars of this situation, but
38:26
Speaker 2: in general, and I'm not talking about this restaurant, about
38:28
Speaker 2: in general, there would be those that say that if
38:30
Speaker 2: people are here illegally, that they shouldn't be here.
38:34
Speaker 12: Do you know how many people you're talking about?
38:38
Speaker 2: That's why I said originally when President Trump ran on
38:41
Speaker 2: We're going to deport all all the illegals, I was like, yeah.
38:45
Speaker 12: I'm talking all probably talking about twenty million people.
38:50
Speaker 2: And there have been those that have also said, look
38:52
Speaker 2: that the whole selling of this thing for the American
38:57
Speaker 2: people was we're going after the bad guys that are
39:00
Speaker 2: peddling the drugs, and we're going after the worst of
39:02
Speaker 2: the worst criminals and things of that nature. And I
39:04
Speaker 2: think most people would be okay with that. However, it
39:09
Speaker 2: seems to me, and I get just an outside of
39:11
Speaker 2: looking at it, and I'm not talking about this particularly,
39:13
Speaker 2: it seems to me like we're going after a lot
39:14
Speaker 2: of people that are making caso, you know, yeah and
39:19
Speaker 2: her in one one way or the other, that maybe
39:22
Speaker 2: aren't necessarily that big of a threat. Now they may
39:25
Speaker 2: be here illegally, and if that's the case, then you
39:27
Speaker 2: know that's different.
39:28
Speaker 12: But you know, well, you know most people here go
39:32
Speaker 12: to Myrtle Beach, or go to Florida or yeah, well
39:36
Speaker 12: I go to Long Beach, Seal Beach, and you pull
39:42
Speaker 12: the Mexicans out of that economy, You've got no economy, right,
39:46
Speaker 12: And I would I would have met. There was a
39:50
Speaker 12: lady out there and she worked at the breakfast nook,
39:53
Speaker 12: you know where you went to get your breakfast, and
39:57
Speaker 12: she has she lived in Signal Hill, which non expensive place,
40:03
Speaker 12: and she was Latin some kind of and she had
40:06
Speaker 12: seven children. Two of them went one went in the
40:12
Speaker 12: Marine Corps, one went in the army. One of them
40:15
Speaker 12: went to Iraq, the other one to Afghanistan. Should she
40:22
Speaker 12: be entitled she was illegal, should she be entitled to
40:26
Speaker 12: some consideration?
40:27
Speaker 2: I mean for that, But there would also be those
40:30
Speaker 2: that would say, look, if you are a contributing member
40:32
Speaker 2: of society, then make yourself legal to go a process
40:36
Speaker 2: to that.
40:37
Speaker 12: You would say, what, you can't do it? I mean
40:39
Speaker 12: it's impossible. It's almost impossible to get a green card,
40:43
Speaker 12: especially now because this is a very anti immigrant administration.
40:53
Speaker 12: There was a bill in two thousand and six. I
40:55
Speaker 12: talked to Nick Joe ray Hall about this last week.
40:59
Speaker 12: It was in a Bush's bill where they would take
41:02
Speaker 12: every person that's in this country right now, that's in
41:07
Speaker 12: here illly goal and give him a green card, provided
41:12
Speaker 12: they didn't have any criminal record. That way you find
41:16
Speaker 12: out who and where they are right and then they
41:21
Speaker 12: have to get in the back of the line as
41:23
Speaker 12: far as getting their citizens. But I don't know why
41:29
Speaker 12: we don't take on more citizens. I don't These are
41:33
Speaker 12: the people that appreciate the American dream more.
41:37
Speaker 2: Than most and in many cases, not necessarily with this restaurant,
41:40
Speaker 2: but in many cases, Danny, a lot of these people
41:42
Speaker 2: you reference California are doing jobs that Americans simply won't do.
41:46
Speaker 2: That's right, I mean a lot of them.
41:48
Speaker 12: That's what President Bush said.
41:50
Speaker 2: I mean if and I've got friends. I've talked about
41:53
Speaker 2: it on the show. I have a friend that owns
41:54
Speaker 2: a company and he employees people. They are legal, but
41:58
Speaker 2: they're legal to come here to work. They're not because
42:00
Speaker 2: I mean citizens. He said, Hey, I'd like to hire Americans,
42:02
Speaker 2: but I can't find any Americans to do this. Sure,
42:04
Speaker 2: his entire workforce are immigrants. Tex says, enough is enough.
42:08
Speaker 2: The reason they had to eat in plain clothes because
42:10
Speaker 2: if you actually watch what's going on in Minnesota, these
42:13
Speaker 2: people are being bullied out of these facilities for enforcing
42:15
Speaker 2: federal immigration law. If any illegal alien has been here
42:19
Speaker 2: for years and never bothered or thought they needed to
42:23
Speaker 2: file for legal citizenship, then that's on them.
42:25
Speaker 12: You can't file for legal citizenship once you're over here illegally.
42:32
Speaker 12: That's not the way it works. You have to file
42:35
Speaker 12: for green cards. And the only thing they did during
42:38
Speaker 12: Biden administration they just let everybody come come over come
42:43
Speaker 12: here under the guise of asylum, and.
42:49
Speaker 2: So it was.
42:52
Speaker 12: The response was tribal. And you know people that you
42:58
Speaker 12: know Trump backers say they he can't do anything wrong.
43:02
Speaker 12: So I just think it's a I question.
43:06
Speaker 2: The resources text says, tell Danny the administration is not
43:10
Speaker 2: anti immigrant like he just said, they are anti illegal
43:13
Speaker 2: immigrant and a huge difference.
43:16
Speaker 12: I disagree.
43:17

45:43
Speaker 2: Welcome back to the show. Seven minutes away from ten. Well,
45:46
Speaker 2: we got a bunch of texts for Danny Jones. The
45:48
Speaker 2: text says, you don't just break in, Danny, don't just
45:52
Speaker 2: break in the country, all right, Tex says Dave Ice
45:56
Speaker 2: is doing a great job getting illegal people out of
45:59
Speaker 2: the country. Biden let twenty million illegals to invade this country,
46:03
Speaker 2: and now we have a president that's trying to correct
46:04
Speaker 2: the situation.
46:06
Speaker 12: Okay, I'm not sure you'll at twenty million n but
46:09
Speaker 12: he's let way too many in. But a lot of
46:15
Speaker 12: those people like that lady from Signal Hill are good people.
46:21
Speaker 2: Tex says, the immigration system is broken and the Potus
46:25
Speaker 2: and Congress are to blame for not voting to improve it,
46:27
Speaker 2: but prove it has been broken for decades. That's correct,
46:31
Speaker 2: texas happy Martin Luther King Junior day heck was show
46:34
Speaker 2: honoring the man. Tex says, what kind of pos gets
46:39
Speaker 2: to eat at a restaurant and then rate it? Tex says,
46:42
Speaker 2: it's funny Danny's surprise that Rio got raided. No one's
46:45
Speaker 2: off limits. Wait till Canada and Europe are villainized, white
46:48
Speaker 2: people will be getting the ice treatment.
46:50
Speaker 12: Well, they've already been villainized. I mean, he picked a
46:54
Speaker 12: fight with Canada when he.
46:56
Speaker 2: Took office, and now we're going into Greenland.
46:59
Speaker 12: It's outright okay, it's ridiculous.
47:03
Speaker 2: It seems to me that it's not maybe the smartest
47:05
Speaker 2: thing in the world in this Greenland situation. I'm no
47:07
Speaker 2: international diplomacy expert by any stretch of the imagination, but
47:10
Speaker 2: to go against NATO, it's part of NATO.
47:13
Speaker 12: What is he crazy?
47:14
Speaker 2: And from what I have been told, and you're more
47:17
Speaker 2: up on this, what I am, I mean pretty much
47:19
Speaker 2: the things that he wants to do in Greenland. We
47:21
Speaker 2: can do anyway.
47:24
Speaker 12: Yeah, we can. If we want to put truth there,
47:26
Speaker 12: we can put truth there. But he has no right.
47:30
Speaker 12: We have no right to Greenland. If they want to
47:33
Speaker 12: Denmark wants to make a deal, right, it would have
47:37
Speaker 12: to come from them.
47:39
Speaker 2: But I was watching some of the Sunday morning news shows, Danny,
47:41
Speaker 2: and I was looking at some of the polling that's
47:43
Speaker 2: come out. And of course, anytime you talk about poles,
47:46
Speaker 2: anything that's anti Trump, you know, people are going to
47:48
Speaker 2: come out and say, well, no one pulled me, you know.
47:50
Speaker 2: You know, well, I don't know what they're But regardless
47:54
Speaker 2: of party, there's a couple of things here. Number one,
47:58
Speaker 2: the majority of Americans think that the government has been
48:00
Speaker 2: too heavy handed when it comes to the Ice situation.
48:03
Speaker 2: That's regardless Republican, Democrat or whatever. And they want us
48:07
Speaker 2: out of Greenland, and they want us to concentrate on
48:11
Speaker 2: the economy.
48:12
Speaker 10: Period.
48:12
Speaker 2: Now, Trump says affordability is a democratic buzzword.
48:16
Speaker 12: Well, it's a buzzword until you go in the grocery
