- 0:17Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark. I'm Megan, and
- 0:21Speaker 1: I'm a lifelong Hallmark movie fan.
- 0:24Speaker 2: I'm Wendy, and I can't believe I made it through
- 0:27Speaker 2: countdown to Christmas were here.
- 0:30Speaker 1: I made it alive, guys, really without falling apart at
- 0:35Speaker 1: any point, Like there was no point we were like, uh,
- 0:39Speaker 1: another movie. Well, I don't know about that.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I may have hit a wall at some point, but
- 0:48Speaker 2: it didn't kill me. You know, what makes you whatever,
- 0:53Speaker 2: what makes you stronger? Was what does it stronger?
- 0:57Speaker 1: You got me? Well? I but I do think that
- 1:01Speaker 1: there is perhaps a reason why this season was a
- 1:04Speaker 1: little bit different and I We'll talk about that in
- 1:05Speaker 1: just a second, but today we are discussing A Dog
- 1:08Speaker 1: Lover's Guide to Dating, the very first movie released on
- 1:12Speaker 1: January first from Hallmark Channel in their New Year New
- 1:16Speaker 1: Movies lineup, which is.
- 1:20Speaker 2: So weird that they're calling it that this year, since
- 1:23Speaker 2: you know, most of January is committed to the Wedding
- 1:27Speaker 2: Mayo series like call its I don't know.
- 1:30Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:31Speaker 2: I always thought because prior to starting this podcast, it
- 1:35Speaker 2: was called Winterfest right in January, and then in twenty
- 1:40Speaker 2: twenty twenty twenty one, I don't remember it. They changed
- 1:44Speaker 2: it to New Year, New Movies, which to me signifies
- 1:48Speaker 2: that it would be like movies with a fresh start.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:51Speaker 1: You know, resolution is super generic. I think it's like
- 1:55Speaker 1: we got to call these months something so everyone feels
- 1:58Speaker 1: like they need to get the whole month. It's super boring,
- 2:01Speaker 1: like completion mentality. I get it, I think, you know,
- 2:07Speaker 1: I think outside of counting on a Christmas, my feeling
- 2:11Speaker 1: is that their themes have very little meaning. Then why
- 2:17Speaker 1: do them They don't need to do like Autumn because
- 2:20Speaker 1: most of those movies aren't even fall.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Don't get me started.
- 2:25Speaker 1: So anyway, if you want to connect with us outside
- 2:27Speaker 1: of the podcast, we'd love for you to follow us
- 2:29Speaker 1: on Instagram. We have two Instagram accounts. Girls Gone Hallmark
- 2:32Speaker 1: is our Hallmark specific account. It is popping Off over there.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Wendy runs that account, and if you want to talk
- 2:39Speaker 1: all things Hallmark, please join us there. We have a
- 2:42Speaker 1: second Instagram account which is at Megan and Wendy, which
- 2:46Speaker 1: is all Things Megan and Wendy. We talk about our
- 2:48Speaker 1: other podcast there. We talk about life there. That's a
- 2:51Speaker 1: fun account as well.
- 2:53Speaker 2: You can also jump in our Girls Gone Hallmark Facebook group.
- 2:58Speaker 2: We've been letting people in their life and write over
- 3:00Speaker 2: the holiday.
- 3:02Speaker 1: We have yeah going quickly. It's very chat with her.
- 3:05Speaker 2: We chat over there about Hallmark movies, Hallmark news, so
- 3:09Speaker 2: on and so forth. You can also email us always
- 3:12Speaker 2: at Meganandwindy at gmail dot com if you want to
- 3:15Speaker 2: talk about your thoughts on these movies. We are here
- 3:18Speaker 2: to listen.
- 3:19Speaker 1: And you know, we did get few emails, like people
- 3:23Speaker 1: sharing their favorite movies of the year. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 1: people who couldn't quite figure out how to play along.
- 3:32Speaker 1: On Instagram, Wendy had a fun little game. Wendy created
- 3:37Speaker 1: a bracket mm hmm to determine the best movie of
- 3:41Speaker 1: the year, of course, all in good fun and look,
- 3:44Speaker 1: Whendy said she was going to do this, and I
- 3:45Speaker 1: was like, that sounds like a lot of work that
- 3:47Speaker 1: you go for that. And there wasn't really anything like
- 3:49Speaker 1: it wasn't really possible for it to be a two
- 3:51Speaker 1: person job.
- 3:52Speaker 2: I mean, no, it's fine. I wasn't asking for all.
- 3:57Speaker 1: But the whole time I was like, wow, this is
- 3:59Speaker 1: a lot of work. Just kept watching it happen. But
- 4:01Speaker 1: she seeded them based on their IMDb rankings, which totally
- 4:05Speaker 1: blew my mind. And then you the fans got to vote,
- 4:10Speaker 1: and there were some surprises there.
- 4:14Speaker 2: A big time surprise is don't you think.
- 4:16Speaker 1: The biggest surprise to me is evident in the final
- 4:20Speaker 1: two movies.
- 4:22Speaker 2: Which was in Mary Measure with a Brendan Penny movie
- 4:28Speaker 2: and what's that other end of the three guys?
- 4:30Speaker 1: You wise, I'm in the Baby Yes, yeah, which I
- 4:33Speaker 1: expected to be in the final two that or a
- 4:36Speaker 1: handful of other movies I anticipated would be in the
- 4:38Speaker 1: final two. Really, in Mary Measure had a true Cinderella story.
- 4:42Speaker 1: The fans really rally behind that movie.
- 4:44Speaker 2: It really really did. And let me say like, I
- 4:48Speaker 2: felt kind of bad because that was a movie that
- 4:51Speaker 2: we did not review and one I did not watch
- 4:55Speaker 2: during the countdown to Christmas season. But New Year's Eve
- 4:59Speaker 2: I did watch it, and I did think it was
- 5:02Speaker 2: a good movie. I liked it quite a bit. I
- 5:06Speaker 2: really liked the writing, I liked the story, I liked
- 5:10Speaker 2: the actors. I liked it a lot. I felt bad
- 5:12Speaker 2: that I kind of thought it was like a throwaway
- 5:14Speaker 2: Hallmark movie, you know how some of those are, right,
- 5:20Speaker 2: But I was truly wowed how far it got in
- 5:23Speaker 2: the bracket.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Yeah, and there was a point at which it was
- 5:26Speaker 1: way ahead in the votes, and then the Heidians came
- 5:29Speaker 1: out in full force.
- 5:31Speaker 2: That's what was so crazy about It was like the
- 5:34Speaker 2: fandoms would get bananas over it, right, they would just
- 5:39Speaker 2: like people were sending me like screenshots of dropping our
- 5:44Speaker 2: link to our Instagram in all kinds of crazy like
- 5:47Speaker 2: Facebook groups and Reddit sub threads and all kinds of stuff.
- 5:53Speaker 2: So I was like, well, hey, I'm here for it.
- 5:55Speaker 2: Great share our stuff. But absolutely there are a lot
- 5:59Speaker 2: of like pockets of fans out there, so it was
- 6:03Speaker 2: it was fun to watch. Now let me tell you,
- 6:05Speaker 2: there was some kind of some weird stuff behind the scenes,
- 6:09Speaker 2: just okay, not super weird, but like people questioning our
- 6:13Speaker 2: integrity to the contests. First of all, not a contest.
- 6:19Speaker 2: There was like nothing to win here, no prize. It
- 6:23Speaker 2: was just for fun. It's truly just for engagement for
- 6:26Speaker 2: the fans to like, you know, partake in something that
- 6:30Speaker 2: they love, right, And.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I think the fans really got into it and liked
- 6:34Speaker 1: the opportunity to play. Agree.
- 6:36Speaker 2: But then I got some messages like show me the
- 6:39Speaker 2: proof and send me screenshots and are you changing the votes?
- 6:44Speaker 2: And is it allowed that you're voting from a different account,
- 6:49Speaker 2: you know, because you voted from our Megan and Wendy
- 6:51Speaker 2: Hallmark account, which but why not?
- 6:54Speaker 1: Person?
- 6:55Speaker 2: I know, it just was bizarre. I was like, hey, guys, like,
- 7:00Speaker 2: it's just for fun. It's just for fun. And then
- 7:02Speaker 2: I just started ignoring those messages because I was like,
- 7:05Speaker 2: I can't win here, like I don't have some conspiracy
- 7:10Speaker 2: against three wise men and a baby.
- 7:12Speaker 1: Sorry you did not have a dog in this by And.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Then I would say. There was some feedback to like
- 7:17Speaker 2: people were unhappy with the seeding.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Well that's the way the cookie crumbles, folks, That's what
- 7:25Speaker 1: I said.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Specifically, I'm like, look, I did not match these two
- 7:28Speaker 2: movies up on purpose, Like right, this is what I did.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I went through IMDb. Actually I didn't do it, somebody
- 7:35Speaker 2: did it on Twitter. I have the movie Nice ranked
- 7:41Speaker 2: on IMDb according to user ratings, and then I had
- 7:45Speaker 2: to go in and fill in the gaps a little
- 7:47Speaker 2: bit because it wasn't complete anyway. But people were upset
- 7:50Speaker 2: that I used IMDb as the way to seed them,
- 7:55Speaker 2: but like, how else am I going to do it?
- 7:58Speaker 1: Like yeah, bye, viewership, Look, it's for fun. Y'all it's
- 8:03Speaker 1: for fun. Yeah, exactly, you want to see it our
- 8:05Speaker 1: bracket next year emails and I'm going to Wendy Atter
- 8:07Speaker 1: email buck Mom have at it.
- 8:09Speaker 2: But like one one complaint was that the Holiday Sitter
- 8:12Speaker 2: had it was a kind of a lower ranking because
- 8:15Speaker 2: the IMDb like it wasn't It wasn't like a super
- 8:18Speaker 2: popular movie on IMDb. What's shocker because a lot of
- 8:21Speaker 2: people live on the internet on IMDb and like to
- 8:24Speaker 2: write terrible reviews about movies, right right, So, but that's
- 8:27Speaker 2: not my fault. No, I think you did great. I
- 8:31Speaker 2: think it was very fun. I'm impressed that you pulled
- 8:34Speaker 2: it off.
- 8:35Speaker 1: And if you want to see the full recap of
- 8:37Speaker 1: how it went down when he's been saving those into
- 8:39Speaker 1: a highlight on our girls go one Hallmark Instagram account.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Yeah. Also, should we do it again next year?
- 8:46Speaker 1: I think so. But let me know how I can
- 8:48Speaker 1: help you.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Okay, we got a whole nother eleven months to figure
- 8:53Speaker 2: it out.
- 8:53Speaker 1: We do a little bit more Hallmark news and notes.
- 8:59Speaker 1: I just have one note here that Hallmark has acquired
- 9:02Speaker 1: drop Dead Diva, which will air on Hallmark Movies and
- 9:04Speaker 1: Mysteries on weekdays from five pm to seven pm. Now, Wendy,
- 9:08Speaker 1: have you ever seen this show?
- 9:09Speaker 2: I never watched it.
- 9:10Speaker 1: No, I watched it in its original airing stars Brooke Elliott,
- 9:14Speaker 1: and that I think was my first introduction to her.
- 9:18Speaker 1: I loved this show, so I'm excited that it will
- 9:23Speaker 1: get a new audience. I did tell Wendy that we
- 9:26Speaker 1: should throw in another recap, but every time I've mentioned it,
- 9:30Speaker 1: she has just ignored the suggestion.
- 9:32Speaker 2: So did you see my reply on Facebook late last night? Well,
- 9:37Speaker 2: late last night I did chime in and I said, Patreon, honey, if.
- 9:41Speaker 1: You would like a Patreon exclusive podcast recapping dropped a
- 9:47Speaker 1: diva from the Ladies of Girls called Hallmark, email us
- 9:49Speaker 1: and let us know.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Yeah, especially I've never seen it. How many seasons are there?
- 9:53Speaker 2: A couple, two, three, couple.
- 9:55Speaker 1: A couple and it's it's fun and light. I think
- 9:59Speaker 1: you might like it.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Well, hey, I'm open to it.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I have a question for you. Yes, are you interested
- 10:06Speaker 1: in hearing what the top five countdown to Christmas movies
- 10:09Speaker 1: were by Girls Gone Hallmark download numbers?
- 10:14Speaker 2: Yes, i am.
- 10:15Speaker 1: I'll start with number five. Okay, number five might be
- 10:18Speaker 1: a surprise. It's The Royal Nanny. Oh wow, I'm surprised
- 10:21Speaker 1: it made the top five. Next up we have Lightscamra Christmas.
- 10:26Speaker 1: The number three spot is time for Him to come
- 10:28Speaker 1: home for Christmas. That's no surprise to me. Tyler Hines's
- 10:31Speaker 1: movies performed very well for us.
- 10:34Speaker 2: I know, I just cringe though, because I was like,
- 10:36Speaker 2: I was not that kind to that movie.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Well, I think there were some criticisms to be made.
- 10:43Speaker 1: Number two is Haul Out the Holly, and the number
- 10:47Speaker 1: one spot is no surprise. Three Wise Men and a Baby.
- 10:51Speaker 1: That movie was just a force unto itself. Yeah, there
- 10:56Speaker 1: was no like.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I mean, you know what. I got a lot of
- 11:00Speaker 2: dms from people saying like it was not their favorite.
- 11:04Speaker 1: It wasn't my number one movie of the year. I
- 11:07Speaker 1: liked it, but it wasn't my number one movie of
- 11:09Speaker 1: the year. And my husband we were talking about Hallmark
- 11:11Speaker 1: movies with some friends over the weekend. He goes, people
- 11:14Speaker 1: just like that movie because the boys in it are pretty,
- 11:16Speaker 1: and I said, yes, that is the heart of that movie. Yes,
- 11:20Speaker 1: because it's middle aged women watching Hallmark and we want
- 11:23Speaker 1: to see hot dudes. Sorry Tyler Hines and his Candy Cane,
- 11:27Speaker 1: Oh my God, Forever and ever.
- 11:29Speaker 2: Aim In he better have a candy cane in his
- 11:32Speaker 2: next set Christmas movie. I Know, I know.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Is there anything else you'd like to discuss in Hallmark
- 11:39Speaker 1: News and Notes?
- 11:40Speaker 2: Just one? Kevin McGarry, who is in the upcoming The
- 11:45Speaker 2: Wedding Veil Expectations. He and his now fiance Kayla Wallace,
- 11:50Speaker 2: who they co star together, and one calls the heart
- 11:53Speaker 2: got engaged over the holidays.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I was so exciting in New York and we're very
- 11:58Speaker 1: excited for them. You're the first synopsis? Oh sure.
- 12:02Speaker 2: The Dog Lover's Guide to Dating Simon believes Chloe is
- 12:06Speaker 2: the girl of his dreams, but can't seem to win
- 12:09Speaker 2: over her beloved pup. He enlists dog trainer Alex and
- 12:14Speaker 2: soon finds himself wondering where his real connection might be.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Starring Rebecca Dalton and Corey Sevier Sevier every time.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Sorry he was in notes for A dog Lover's Guide
- 12:31Speaker 1: to Dating. This movie was based on the book The
- 12:34Speaker 1: Dog Lover's Guide to Dating, which it's not a novel,
- 12:37Speaker 1: but an actual how to guide.
- 12:38Speaker 2: It's yes, a practical guide. Isn't that funny?
- 12:43Speaker 1: Yes?
- 12:44Speaker 2: I saw the credit at the beginning of that movie,
- 12:47Speaker 2: and so I looked it up and I was like, oh,
- 12:49Speaker 2: it's not a novel, so bizarre.
- 12:53Speaker 1: I agree. I thought it was gonna be like musc
- 12:55Speaker 1: Love Dogs, but no, it is.
- 12:57Speaker 2: It is not.
- 12:58Speaker 1: It is an actual If you want to meet, if
- 13:01Speaker 1: you like dogs and you want to find dates, this
- 13:04Speaker 1: is the book for you.
- 13:05Speaker 2: I will leave a link to it in our show notes.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Guys, pick it up on Amazon, get it from the library.
- 13:12Speaker 2: I had a feeling that this movie might have been
- 13:15Speaker 2: a Johnson Production Group movie, and I was right, Wow,
- 13:20Speaker 2: look at you. Yeah, I just nailed it. Johnson Production
- 13:24Speaker 2: Group has produced many Hallmark movies, including Mini I personally
- 13:29Speaker 2: didn't like. However, they have most recently produced Noel next Door,
- 13:35Speaker 2: Five More Minutes, Moments like these, and Time for Him
- 13:38Speaker 2: to Come Home for Christmas.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Okay, I think they.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Might have a deal with Corey Cervier because I was
- 13:48Speaker 2: looking at their lineup of movies. You know, Noel next
- 13:51Speaker 2: Door obviously, and then there was another one from last year.
- 13:55Speaker 2: I can't remember what it was exactly, but he was
- 13:58Speaker 2: in it a deal or perhaps they just enjoy him.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Maybe this was filmed in the easternmost providence of Canada,
- 14:10Speaker 1: very far away from Vancouver. Specifically Newfoundland and Labrador and
- 14:16Speaker 1: Saint John's.
- 14:17Speaker 2: I actually thought that was a joke when I first
- 14:19Speaker 2: saw the note on that.
- 14:21Speaker 1: I was like, because of the dogs.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Yes, I was like, is somebody trolling me?
- 14:26Speaker 1: Like?
- 14:26Speaker 2: Are these real places? I didn't know didn't know that
- 14:30Speaker 2: they were actual real places.
- 14:32Speaker 1: That's funny. Did you know of Labrador and why then
- 14:37Speaker 1: to Saint John's? So yeah, yeah, but that's not a.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Dog I'm talking about, like Labrador and Newfoundland.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Yeah, that was unsurprising to me.
- 14:45Speaker 2: Okay, I thought it was quite funny. Quite funny. A
- 14:49Speaker 2: dog movie that takes very meta, A dog movie that
- 14:52Speaker 2: takes place in a in a well, actually it never
- 14:55Speaker 2: really said where it took place, right.
- 14:58Speaker 1: No, I don't think they ever named the setting of
- 15:01Speaker 1: the movie.
- 15:01Speaker 2: Yeah, well, okay, a dog movie that was filmed in
- 15:04Speaker 2: a dog land, No offense anybody. It was beautiful. I
- 15:08Speaker 2: actually thought it was quite setting.
- 15:11Speaker 1: It was beautiful. I was like, I like to go there.
- 15:14Speaker 1: I think they had the advantage of it feeling wintery,
- 15:18Speaker 1: not snowy, wintry, but not dead of summer, even though
- 15:21Speaker 1: it was filmed in August and September, because fall arrived
- 15:25Speaker 1: quite early in that part of the world. Oh really,
- 15:30Speaker 1: yes it is.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Yes. So do you think that wind when they were
- 15:34Speaker 2: on the cliff side was that hot wind or cold wind? Oh?
- 15:39Speaker 1: I think it was a cold wind. Did you think
- 15:41Speaker 1: they had the ad R the dialogue during the scene.
- 15:44Speaker 2: Absolutely, me too.
- 15:46Speaker 1: I was actually watching very carefully because if they did
- 15:48Speaker 1: have to do that, they did it well. It didn't
- 15:51Speaker 1: sound like we're standing in a room saying these lines. Yeah.
- 15:56Speaker 2: No, they did a good job. There's no, there's no
- 15:58Speaker 2: Mike would have totally picked up wind. They definitely had to.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Had that same thought while watching Rebecca Dalton, she plays Alex.
- 16:08Speaker 2: She's totally new to me. I've never seen her before.
- 16:11Speaker 2: She has a lot of acting credits though, dating back
- 16:13Speaker 2: to twenty ten, including the Unauthorized melrose Place Story where
- 16:20Speaker 2: she played Courtney Thorne Smith.
- 16:22Speaker 1: That's so funny. I have that exact note because I
- 16:24Speaker 1: knew you were going to see that in her of course,
- 16:28Speaker 1: in her yers. I mean it's like TV TV movie,
- 16:30Speaker 1: TV movie, TV movie, the Unauthorized melrose Play Story. I
- 16:33Speaker 1: thought that was a fun little note Courtney Thorn.
- 16:36Speaker 2: She was also in Hallmark's A Perfect Christmas in twenty sixteen.
- 16:40Speaker 2: She wasn't like the star of the movie, but she
- 16:42Speaker 2: was in it, and I noticed she also co starred
- 16:46Speaker 2: with Corey Sevier in last year's Lemonade Stand Romance, which
- 16:53Speaker 2: was not a Hallmark movie. I'm not exactly sure where
- 16:56Speaker 2: it aired, but it's written directed by a bunch of
- 16:59Speaker 2: like Hallmark regular so but I don't know where where
- 17:03Speaker 2: that movie's at.
- 17:06Speaker 1: I noticed that as well. Chrysavier is really churning out
- 17:10Speaker 1: the Hallmark movies lately. He plays Simon in this movie.
- 17:13Speaker 1: I'm wondering if he needs to be considered for our
- 17:16Speaker 1: Dudes of Hallmark short but Hallmark seems to be a
- 17:20Speaker 1: big fan of Korysavier. I mean, I three movies in
- 17:23Speaker 1: the last four months. It's working a lot.
- 17:27Speaker 2: What three movies? Not for all for Hallmark?
- 17:32Speaker 1: Yes, so for Hallmark. He was in road Trip Romance
- 17:35Speaker 1: in the Fall, okay, he was in.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Noel, next Door, Well next Door, and then this Okay,
- 17:42Speaker 2: He's He's got a bunch of other movies in his
- 17:44Speaker 2: IMDb too, but like I honestly don't know where those
- 17:46Speaker 2: movies are at. He did two other Christmas movies and
- 17:52Speaker 2: then he has another one completed called Keta Love and
- 17:54Speaker 2: I don't know where that one is going either.
- 17:58Speaker 1: I did notice that a lot of these actors have
- 18:00Speaker 1: a lot coming up.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, exciting, right.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Eliza Kinge plays Chloe in this movie. She lives in
- 18:08Speaker 1: Newfoundland and her three other acting credits are movies that
- 18:11Speaker 1: have all been shot in Newfoundland. Oh. I actually really
- 18:16Speaker 1: enjoyed her, and so did. I hope that she can
- 18:20Speaker 1: funny break out of the Eastern Canada acting scene because
- 18:25Speaker 1: I liked her and would like to see more of her.
- 18:28Speaker 2: I agree, there was something. I was very drawn to
- 18:32Speaker 2: her for some reason.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know.
- 18:36Speaker 2: That's all I got for news and notes.
- 18:38Speaker 1: I just want to say this. This movie has three
- 18:40Speaker 1: co writers, Katherine Ray, Kate Summerville, and Juliana Wimbles. Katherine
- 18:45Speaker 1: Ray and Kate Somerville are both very newly published writers.
- 18:51Speaker 1: I shall say Catherine Ray has two writing credits, is
- 18:54Speaker 1: Kate Somerville's first writing credit. Juliana Wimbles has a fair
- 19:00Speaker 1: amount of Hallmark acting under her belt, but three writing credits.
- 19:05Speaker 1: So these are some new writers that we're getting in here. Okay,
- 19:09Speaker 1: all right, let's move on to first impressions.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Do you want to go first?
- 19:13Speaker 1: Sure? Mine comes from my husband.
- 19:15Speaker 2: Oh.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Okay, was in the room as I was watching, although
- 19:19Speaker 1: he wouldn't tell you, watched this movie, and he said,
- 19:22Speaker 1: if there are pets in the movie, you already know
- 19:24Speaker 1: what you're gonna get.
- 19:27Speaker 2: That is a fair first impression. My first impression was
- 19:33Speaker 2: someone has daddy issues.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, wait till we get to my wish. Okay,
- 19:39Speaker 1: so what do we like about this movie?
- 19:41Speaker 2: I'll start. I was really focused on Corey Sevier's performance. Now,
- 19:49Speaker 2: let me just a little backstory here. Prior to Noel
- 19:54Speaker 2: next Door, I had personally found him kind of unremarkable.
- 20:00Speaker 2: He's very handsome, don't get me wrong, but like I
- 20:04Speaker 2: couldn't name one of his movies if I my life
- 20:07Speaker 2: depended on it, Like, I have no idea. You said,
- 20:10Speaker 2: Romance to the Rescue. Was that a dog movie?
- 20:13Speaker 1: No? No, no road trip romance? Oh my god, I
- 20:16Speaker 1: see I can't any suitcases?
- 20:18Speaker 2: Oh god, oh god, oh god. Oh Natalie Hall was
- 20:21Speaker 2: in that movie, right, yes, Okay, Anyway, I think that
- 20:26Speaker 2: he's a really good dramatic actor.
- 20:30Speaker 1: Hmmm.
- 20:31Speaker 2: So I enjoyed him in those scenes that require like
- 20:34Speaker 2: a little more depth as opposed to like the comedic
- 20:38Speaker 2: scenes which I feel like they're like overacted, especially like
- 20:43Speaker 2: at the beginning when he's chasing the dog through the party. Yes,
- 20:47Speaker 2: I could not. I was like, no, this is what
- 20:50Speaker 2: we're dealing with. I yeah, I mean I like him
- 20:54Speaker 2: as an actor. I just I don't I'm.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Gonna put that on the direct or having those scenes.
- 21:02Speaker 1: You're not gonna dive through somebody's picnic to try and
- 21:04Speaker 1: get the dog.
- 21:05Speaker 2: You're just right, Okay, that's fair. That's fair.
- 21:10Speaker 1: So, as I mentioned, I really liked Eliza King. I
- 21:13Speaker 1: liked Chloe's character. She had some really funny lines. She
- 21:16Speaker 1: and Simon go for a walk and she's like, I'm
- 21:20Speaker 1: not like outdoorsy, and then she goes, is this like research?
- 21:26Speaker 1: And I yelled at the screen. I go, it's a walk, Chloe. Like,
- 21:29Speaker 1: I just thought she was very share Horowitz in this movie.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I thought she was a fun, light comic relief. Yeah.
- 21:41Speaker 2: I liked her too. I really enjoyed Emily Stranger's Who's Me.
- 21:45Speaker 2: She played the role of a sister. Yeah. I liked
- 21:47Speaker 2: her a lot too, Like she was like the level
- 21:49Speaker 2: headed one who would ask the questions like you need
- 21:52Speaker 2: that always in a movie. But I but I liked her.
- 21:56Speaker 1: I liked her in that role well, and to that point,
- 21:58Speaker 1: I was more invested in the relationship between Alex and
- 22:02Speaker 1: Sarah than I was in the relationship between Alex and Simon.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Oh right, that's see, that's how they could have made
- 22:09Speaker 2: this movie a little bit better, make it more about
- 22:11Speaker 2: the sisters, you know, Like I'm just I don't want
- 22:17Speaker 2: I don't want to start the year out being like
- 22:19Speaker 2: I don't want these Hallmark trope movies.
- 22:22Speaker 1: But I watched this movie so carefully because I wanted
- 22:28Speaker 1: to start strong. I'm struggling with that. A quick little
- 22:31Speaker 1: side note. There was an interview with Lacy Shab that
- 22:34Speaker 1: was done recently and it was kind of like the
- 22:36Speaker 1: counterpoint to the Candice Cameron Beret interviews that have been done,
- 22:39Speaker 1: and it was a nice interview. But one of the
- 22:42Speaker 1: things they asked was do you think we'll ever see
- 22:45Speaker 1: movies without a love story? And she said, I think
- 22:49Speaker 1: that love story is at the heart of what we do.
- 22:51Speaker 1: She said, but you never know. But I was a
- 22:52Speaker 1: little bit disappointed in that answer, because I do think
- 22:55Speaker 1: there's room for Hallmark to branch out and tell these
- 23:01Speaker 1: stories that don't end in an I love you moment, right.
- 23:06Speaker 2: I mean three wise men and a baby was not
- 23:09Speaker 2: a primary love story.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Great point.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Yes those were side stories, but it was last That's crux.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Of the movie.
- 23:17Speaker 2: For me.
- 23:18Speaker 1: It's always take a lesson from the movie Frozen, right,
- 23:20Speaker 1: Disney Princess movies always have a fairy tale, happy ending,
- 23:23Speaker 1: But that movie was about the love between sisters. And yes,
- 23:27Speaker 1: there were romantic relationships in that movie, but they were
- 23:29Speaker 1: not at the heart of the movie. So it can
- 23:32Speaker 1: be done. If Disney can break the mold, so can Hallmark.
- 23:35Speaker 2: I agree.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Okay, I thought there was some just fun, lighthearted, very
- 23:42Speaker 1: current writing in this movie.
- 23:44Speaker 2: I agree, same, same, same.
- 23:46Speaker 1: In the advertising they talked about, you know, wanting a
- 23:49Speaker 1: very like Goop style. Wasn't advertising plan That's what I'm
- 23:55Speaker 1: losing the word, but you know what I mean, like
- 23:56Speaker 1: a pitch. They're like think when it's Tesla. I thought
- 23:59Speaker 1: that was Simon made fun of Alex for her printed posters.
- 24:03Speaker 1: He's like, you need to think online, not telephone polls.
- 24:06Speaker 1: What year do you think it is? I I thought
- 24:10Speaker 1: it was written for a younger audience, or at least
- 24:15Speaker 1: written in a way an younger audience could appreciate. Alongside
- 24:19Speaker 1: a classic coal Mark audience. Mm hmm, yeah, what'd you
- 24:22Speaker 1: think about Rebecca Dalton? I actually really liked Rebecca Dalton.
- 24:27Speaker 1: I think it's funny how much she resembles Natalie Hall.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Oh my god, Megan, I wrote the same thing. I said,
- 24:35Speaker 2: she looks too much like Natalie Hall.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Yes, I liked her too.
- 24:40Speaker 2: I don't want to be like she should change herself,
- 24:43Speaker 2: but I think like maybe she darkened her hair a
- 24:46Speaker 2: little bit or something, you know what I mean. She
- 24:50Speaker 2: does look exactly like Natalie Hall, and I don't want
- 24:53Speaker 2: her to get fall into this mix of like blonde
- 24:56Speaker 2: Hallmark actresses.
- 24:58Speaker 1: Right right, Yes, I don't want her to be the
- 25:00Speaker 1: bobo Natalie Hall. Because I really liked her. I thought
- 25:03Speaker 1: she was one of the strongest actors in this movie.
- 25:07Speaker 1: I have some criticism about her storyline, which isn't about her.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I enjoyed her and would be happy to see her
- 25:14Speaker 1: in more.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Me too, agree.
- 25:18Speaker 1: I'm tapped out on likes. What about you? Me too? Okay?
- 25:22Speaker 1: You ready for wishes? I am? I have one? Oh oh,
- 25:27Speaker 1: go ahead.
- 25:28Speaker 2: I wish there was a better plot.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Oh I didn't. I'm sorry.
- 25:32Speaker 2: I didn't think there was anything special about this story,
- 25:35Speaker 2: and there was nothing to move this story or the
- 25:40Speaker 2: relationship between Simon and Alex forward after the dog training,
- 25:45Speaker 2: So then they had to like throw in the loss
- 25:48Speaker 2: of the shelter to like finish the movie iet them connected. Yeah,
- 25:53Speaker 2: I just thought I was kind of weak overall.
- 25:56Speaker 1: I don't disagree with you, so my big well, I
- 25:59Speaker 1: have a lot of wishes, but I wish Alex would
- 26:02Speaker 1: have gone to therapy. And I don't say that as
- 26:05Speaker 1: a joke. She is dealing with childhood trauma that has
- 26:09Speaker 1: carried into her adult life and marks the way that
- 26:14Speaker 1: she behaves in multiple situations and in her relationships. And
- 26:21Speaker 1: Simon is not going to be the one to solve
- 26:23Speaker 1: the problem for her, and she can't rely on another
- 26:26Speaker 1: person or a relationship. It's not fair for him to
- 26:32Speaker 1: bear this burden of having to constantly prove to her
- 26:35Speaker 1: that he's not going to leave her like her dad did. Yeah,
- 26:38Speaker 1: she needs to process the trauma that she is holding
- 26:41Speaker 1: on too before she can move on. And there is
- 26:45Speaker 1: someone rolling their eyes at me right now. But if
- 26:48Speaker 1: you're going to put that at the heart of this movie,
- 26:51Speaker 1: that their dad leaving marked their relationships in such a
- 26:54Speaker 1: heavy way, she needs to process that and not be
- 26:57Speaker 1: like Simon will save me because she's tougher than that.
- 27:04Speaker 2: Girl with the armchair therapy right now. But you're right,
- 27:08Speaker 2: You're absolutely right.
- 27:10Speaker 1: I said what I said. What else? My other wish
- 27:15Speaker 1: is I wish there was less antagonism, specifically from Alex
- 27:22Speaker 1: to Simon. It made her unlikable to me. Oh uh huh,
- 27:27Speaker 1: you know, Oh we agree, you need professional help. You
- 27:30Speaker 1: need a life coach more than a dog trainer. I
- 27:33Speaker 1: mean it was just like it was more pointed than
- 27:38Speaker 1: it needed to be. I feel like the sarcasm was
- 27:42Speaker 1: real heavy, and I don't think that they had enough
- 27:47Speaker 1: time in their relationship to recover from her being kind
- 27:52Speaker 1: of nasty to him to go to the I love
- 27:56Speaker 1: you that they got I'm in love with you at
- 28:00Speaker 1: the end. They could have had a professional dog trainer
- 28:05Speaker 1: relationship and set it apart from the romantic relationship that
- 28:09Speaker 1: he was pursuing with Chloe without making her hate him. Right, Yeah,
- 28:16Speaker 1: I agree?
- 28:17Speaker 2: What else do you have?
- 28:19Speaker 1: I wish we could have seen the photos from the
- 28:20Speaker 1: photo shoot me too, Oh my gosh, why is that?
- 28:24Speaker 1: Why do you think that is because they weren't actually
- 28:27Speaker 1: taking photos? Oh?
- 28:28Speaker 2: I know that. I'm asking, why do you think we
- 28:31Speaker 2: both wanted to see the photos?
- 28:33Speaker 1: I don't. I don't. That's a good question. I can't
- 28:37Speaker 1: imagine they actually turned out great. But I do think
- 28:40Speaker 1: they did a nice job in that scene, because you know,
- 28:43Speaker 1: they're shooting this dog food, I'm like, you need a dog,
- 28:46Speaker 1: and then they bring in the dogs, and then I
- 28:48Speaker 1: thought that was actually very funny with them like running
- 28:50Speaker 1: through with the dogs. I thought it obviously made it
- 28:54Speaker 1: a more interesting ad to have living things in it
- 28:57Speaker 1: than just a bag of dox of dog yeah style.
- 29:04Speaker 1: But yes, I would have been very curious to see
- 29:07Speaker 1: how those turned out. You ready for we did see that?
- 29:09Speaker 2: Yeah? I have a few. Okay, I have a few,
- 29:12Speaker 2: and I have a few stupid little complaints too. Yeah,
- 29:16Speaker 2: but truly, did you see that there were so many
- 29:20Speaker 2: American flags in the background of this movie. I don't
- 29:23Speaker 2: know if you caught them. In at least two scenes,
- 29:27Speaker 2: there was like American flags, and it almost looked like
- 29:30Speaker 2: they were used to like cover up signage, you know,
- 29:33Speaker 2: like something that said like Canadian tire or whatever. You
- 29:37Speaker 2: know what I mean. I hung this like big American
- 29:40Speaker 2: flag over it. I was like, Okay, we get it,
- 29:43Speaker 2: you're not in Canada. It just was so funny. I've
- 29:50Speaker 2: never noticed it before when it happened twice, huh. The
- 29:55Speaker 2: other time it was the first time. Alex has a
- 29:59Speaker 2: stack of flo for the dogs and there's a picture
- 30:04Speaker 2: of a dog and it was so blurry. I was like, who,
- 30:09Speaker 2: who in the props department decided like to take some
- 30:12Speaker 2: screen grab of this dog?
- 30:14Speaker 1: It was so out of focus school images, totally one.
- 30:20Speaker 2: And it's funny because when she had those, I was like,
- 30:24Speaker 2: this was like at the very beginning, I was like,
- 30:26Speaker 2: why on earth does she has flyers? Who is she
- 30:28Speaker 2: giving flyers to? So, you know, kudos to the writing
- 30:33Speaker 2: for a signmon to be like what are you doing?
- 30:35Speaker 2: Like everything's online these days? And I was really hoping,
- 30:39Speaker 2: since he was in advertising, that he was going to
- 30:41Speaker 2: like make a better campaign for her.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Well he had said that he would. I know you
- 30:50Speaker 1: you train me and I'll make your flyers, but we
- 30:52Speaker 1: never actually saw that happen. All I know he did
- 30:55Speaker 1: do the signage at the event.
- 31:00Speaker 2: Which was also not very good for an advertising executive.
- 31:07Speaker 2: You know, I was like, what I could do better
- 31:09Speaker 2: on Canva myself anyway. Anyway, Lastly, if I could point
- 31:17Speaker 2: this out, Uh, when the Vet picks up Alex to
- 31:21Speaker 2: go to the fundraiser, her hair is straight. Oh the
- 31:27Speaker 2: next scene they're at the fundraiser and it's curled.
- 31:29Speaker 1: That's funny. So Mike, did you see that's? Are you know,
- 31:33Speaker 1: just some random commentary? First of all, jack Axes is
- 31:36Speaker 1: a real place. I looked it up. Oh, real axe
- 31:39Speaker 1: throwing place. So shout out to them. Nice nice cameo
- 31:42Speaker 1: in this movie for this Canadian ax throwing hotspot.
- 31:47Speaker 2: M hmm.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Lots of questions. Okay, how does she afford that house
- 31:53Speaker 1: on a dog dor in her salary? I don't know.
- 31:54Speaker 1: She spends all her time volunteering.
- 31:56Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know.
- 31:59Speaker 1: Like this beautiful house and a beautiful location. Why is
- 32:03Speaker 1: she not just doubling the scrambled eggs cause she's making
- 32:05Speaker 1: for her dog. She's not making dog food, she's making
- 32:07Speaker 1: human food for her dog. Throw a couple extra eggs
- 32:09Speaker 1: in there, lady.
- 32:10Speaker 2: I that was such a weird scene, right, The.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Disordered eating was uncomfortable. You're telling me I eat three
- 32:20Speaker 1: power bars a day, Like there's not a meal in
- 32:23Speaker 1: your day. You're just eating these protein bars that's not efficient.
- 32:26Speaker 1: That's a problem.
- 32:28Speaker 2: I agree, and I did write that down. I go
- 32:31Speaker 2: the weird through line of Alex's eating behaviors was bothered me.
- 32:36Speaker 2: The fact that it was brought up multiple times, I
- 32:43Speaker 2: don't know, that made me uncomfortable.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Yeah, and if you're already making food for your dog,
- 32:48Speaker 1: it's very efficient to just double it and feed yourself.
- 32:53Speaker 2: But she doesn't have time. I know, she has to
- 32:56Speaker 2: get out there.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Yeah, it was just weird. She does have time, owner
- 33:00Speaker 1: does Oh.
- 33:02Speaker 2: I got one. This is not how fundraisers work, as
- 33:05Speaker 2: a as a girl who's working on a fundraiser right now,
- 33:08Speaker 2: Like you know, they had they had this like silent option.
- 33:11Speaker 1: I was like, oh yeah, yeah.
- 33:14Speaker 2: They never showed anybody trying to get that stuff donated,
- 33:16Speaker 2: Like that's the hardest part of a fundraiser, right, and
- 33:19Speaker 2: then they're like doing the calculations at the time of
- 33:23Speaker 2: the announcement, Like no, none of that works, None of that,
- 33:27Speaker 2: None of that works.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Yay.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Yeah, And like did they even say like the owner
- 33:33Speaker 2: of the building was willing to sell to them? Like mate,
- 33:37Speaker 2: what what they did?
- 33:39Speaker 1: They they there was that conversation they said, is the
- 33:43Speaker 1: owner willing to extend your timeline, and she said no,
- 33:46Speaker 1: the best he's willing to do is give us the
- 33:49Speaker 1: first option to buy.
- 33:51Speaker 2: Are you ready to rate this movie?
- 33:54Speaker 1: Unfortunately?
- 33:55Speaker 2: Me too? Go ahead, I don't know. Oh well, fine,
- 34:01Speaker 2: i'll say it. My ratings two point five stars.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Oh mine's too, which I thought was too generous. Oh,
- 34:08Speaker 1: I'm very sorry. I don't want to be this person.
- 34:12Speaker 1: There's no joy in it. But I don't think this
- 34:16Speaker 1: was their solid most solid starts.
- 34:18Speaker 2: No, it bows me out because I'm like, they're really
- 34:22Speaker 2: really like hanging their hat on the Wedding Bill trilogy.
- 34:27Speaker 2: We just need something here on the the first weekend
- 34:32Speaker 2: of January, which I didn't need.
- 34:34Speaker 1: The I Love Yous. I really hated the I Love
- 34:37Speaker 1: yous at the end, me too. You're not in love
- 34:39Speaker 1: with him. You need therapy, Like date him.
- 34:44Speaker 2: That's great, you guys like the right date the sun. Yeah,
- 34:48Speaker 2: go on a date.
- 34:48Speaker 1: He got a dog, yay.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Yeah. Oh my god. Those dogs were real cute.
- 34:54Speaker 1: They were real cute. I like both those dogs. I
- 34:57Speaker 1: really was like a Ziggy in my should because that's
- 34:59Speaker 1: a cute. Oh my god.
- 35:01Speaker 2: I was so drawn to Ziggy. I was like, I
- 35:03Speaker 2: love him. He has just look like a hairy old man.
- 35:06Speaker 1: I love it, I know, and I thought, Wow, these
- 35:08Speaker 1: are the most well trained should dogs I've ever seen
- 35:10Speaker 1: in my entire life.
- 35:12Speaker 2: I know. I was like, Alex, I have a dog
- 35:15Speaker 2: for you. You want to do right my crazy ass dog.
- 35:19Speaker 2: It was so funny because she was like, oh, you
- 35:21Speaker 2: have to, like, I don't know, look the dog in
- 35:25Speaker 2: the eye. I don't know. So I tried that last
- 35:28Speaker 2: night when my dog was aggressively humping my leg, I
- 35:30Speaker 2: was like, look me in the eye. Stop it not helping.
- 35:35Speaker 1: It did not work, I know when she just y'all
- 35:39Speaker 1: sit at Simon and he like spins around and sits
- 35:41Speaker 1: and looks at her. Come on, okay, speaking of the
- 35:45Speaker 1: wedding veil. Next week, we all be back with a
- 35:47Speaker 1: review of the wedding veil expectations. And you might have
- 35:49Speaker 1: noticed that our schedule has changed a little bit. We've
- 35:52Speaker 1: bumped Girls Gone Hallmark movie releases to Tuesdays instead of Thursdays,
- 35:56Speaker 1: so you're gonna get them earlier in your week. If
- 36:00Speaker 1: you have not left a review or a rating for
- 36:03Speaker 1: girls to go on homework, we would love it if
- 36:06Speaker 1: you would do that before you leave. We love your
- 36:08Speaker 1: five star ratings and your reviews, and we'll see you
- 36:13Speaker 1: next week. Goodbye bye,
