Transcript

- 0:26the Avidendorsmen. We hope you loves, so come on in and stay.
- 0:33We'll do our best to excuse my indors man, ladies and gentlemen. Can
- 0:42I please have your attention. I've just been handed an urgent and horrifying news
- 0:47story. I need all of you to stop what you're doing and listen.
- 0:52I'm Rob Lundquist and I'm Bukes, and we are the Avid Indoorsmen. And
- 0:59we didn't talk about that before. I had good job, buddy, nicely,
- 1:03nicely, thank you, thank you. I was scared. I don't
- 1:06have a great Ron Burgundy voice. Yours is so good. Oh thanks.
- 1:10I don't think I can get down there. I tried to to emulate his
- 1:15voice for three to five years. That's true. It's true, that is
- 1:19true. That's a beautiful collegiate career. Oh man, what an intro?
- 1:23How are you? I'm good buddy, how you doing. I'm doing great
- 1:27life. It's good summers here and in fast going by so quickly. Uh
- 1:33yeah, I don't know, nothing's new. I don't know. I'm great.
- 1:37Oh you good, I'm great. Very exciting news. We we just
- 1:42did our first shows with Adams. All went well, went great. It's
- 1:49so awesome. Such a big fan. He did his his opry debut as
- 1:55well. Yeah, a total stud rocked it out it. That's beautiful.
- 2:00We threw him right in the deep end, man, and he turns out
- 2:04he can swim real well. Yeah, well there's a reason, right,
- 2:07there's a reason he's out here. I love it. That's so great.
- 2:09It was a good week. Ah. I love that. What a fun
- 2:13way to start too. Those are fun shows. They were fun fun shows.
- 2:16You were in what Lima, Lima, Ohio. Yep, that's the
- 2:21Rumble Music Festivals. That was fun. Yeah. And then just a little
- 2:25place called the a Pry, the Grand Ole p p Yes. Well that's
- 2:34cool, man, I love it. I know that's a ton of work
- 2:36and you know, just change and weird and all the things. But that's
- 2:39so fun. I can't wait. It's crazy. Yeah, he's making it
- 2:43pretty easy, which is awesome. That's delightful. I hope he holds up
- 2:46the other side of his contract, which is, of course, he has
- 2:50to be my friend now, so we're gonna we're gonna really hold him to
- 2:53that. Absolutely. Well, we got to get him on here. It
- 2:55would be so much fun. That would be so fun. I love that,
- 2:59cool buddy. Hop About the movies. Have you been watching any movies?
- 3:01I did it. I did it first. You did it first.
- 3:05I have been watching some movies and I decided to go to Netflix and I
- 3:09watched the new film hit Man. Have you watched this one? I have?
- 3:14In fact, I can talk about it right now if you would like.
- 3:16Okay, well, sure, I forgot. We haven't talked about it
- 3:20yet. We haven't. So for the listeners, this was the Glenn Powell
- 3:24vehicle where he works for the FBI as a fake hit man, yeah,
- 3:30to try to get people to hire him, and then they get arrested.
- 3:36And apparently it's partially based on a true story, it seems where they took
- 3:40some liberties. Is the love story part of it, which is a significant
- 3:46part of the film. But yeah, that's played by the beautiful Adria Rhona.
- 3:54Oh. She is gorgeous, gorgeous and really good with in this too,
- 4:00like really good. Believed her a ton in this totally. She was
- 4:04do some crazy stuff. I feel like she was featured in that and or
- 4:08series. That's right, Okay, yeah, yeah, that's where you know
- 4:12we're from. Yeah, but I thought I thought it was really well done.
- 4:15And I was intrigued to see that Glenn Powell wrote the screenplay with Richard
- 4:24Yeah. I mean, yeah, you can definitely tell he probably had a
- 4:28hand in writing it because he gave himself a great role, Like he got
- 4:32to play so many different kinds of characters as he's these different hitmen. Yeah,
- 4:39he got to really show off. I thought, yeah, that's fun.
- 4:42I feel very similarly. I thought it was really fun. I was
- 4:47surprised how fun it was. And it's a fun mixture of like that hit
- 4:51manny action stuff and like a little bit of a not so much calm but
- 4:56definitely a rom in there, you know, but there's comedic stuff. There's
- 5:00yeah, there's some calm happening in there. And I really liked the rest
- 5:03of the the rest of the cast. We had Retta, who you guys
- 5:06might know from Parks and rec which it was fun to see her get to
- 5:10do something. She was fun. That Austin Emilio guy is really good.
- 5:15He's been in a few things. He's the like redheaded guy that he takes
- 5:18over the job from right, right, if that makes sense? No,
- 5:24you didn't. Yeah, I wasn't familiar with him. He was he was
- 5:28a walking dead guy, and you probably I don't think you watched that,
- 5:31right if I remember right. I watched the first few seasons. I didn't
- 5:34stick with it, which is fair. I also didn't till the end.
- 5:39But it was fun seeing him in the movie. I thought he was really
- 5:41good. And then that son, Jay Row guy was really funny as sort
- 5:45of the other police sidekicky person. But yeah, I thought it was really
- 5:49fun. I'm glad you told me so. You said it was the romantic
- 5:54parts that were kind of aspect she took some liberties, okay, good?
- 6:00Yeah, because the whole time I was like, so, how loosely based
- 6:02on true events? Because this is bananas super bananas. Well, and he
- 6:10would have never agreed to make that film probably if that was the case,
- 6:14So that I don't want to give anything away, but really a pretty fun
- 6:18romp overall, and there's like some some serious moments in there that are really
- 6:23great too. I really liked it, thought it was fun. Yeah,
- 6:26Samesy's cool. Yeah. How about streaming? Have you been streaming anything else?
- 6:31Well, yes, I have. I I went over to Apple TV
- 6:35plus love It and started watching the new series Presumed Innocent with Jake Joe.
- 6:42They keep spamming me with ads for this. Okay, is it great?
- 6:46It's great. It looks pretty great. So it's based on the film with
- 6:50Harrison Ford and Raal Julia Back in the Day. Okay, yeah, yeah,
- 6:55did you watch that one back in the now? But I love both
- 6:58of them so much. Yeah, I remember watching it when I was a
- 7:01kid, like with my family, and I want to say, like some
- 7:05extended family like my my uncle and and cousin and stuff. I think it
- 7:12might have been around like the Holidays, which is hilarious because the subject matter
- 7:17was pretty intense. Yeah, a little light romp, right right, But
- 7:25yeah, I don't super remember like the ending and everything. Yeah, so
- 7:30I'm hoping none of that like comes back to me. But it's pretty intense
- 7:34so far. It's about a lawyer whose colleague gets murdered. But what makes
- 7:40it even crazier, and what the crazy wrinkle is is that he was having
- 7:44an affair with her. Oh no, and he's a married man. He's
- 7:48a man an affair, I guess. Yeah. Otherwise it's just like a
- 7:55nice time. Well, you can have a you can have a love affair
- 7:57right without Yeah, I guess that's it's just the event. I've never been
- 8:01invited to participate, so I don't know these things work. But yeah,
- 8:07it's it's a very intense show. And Jake Jonhall is acting. Oh yeah,
- 8:13that's great. That that wonderful. What is her name? I saw
- 8:18I was in it? Is that who you're talking about? She's great.
- 8:22I was actually going to say she was in that movie like The Most Wonderful
- 8:28Woman in the World or something. Yeah, The Worst, the Worst Person.
- 8:39It was awesome to that movie and I was like, who is this?
- 8:43Who is this person? Yeah, but everybody in it has been really
- 8:48wonderful and it's it's a great show. I'm gonna keep watching. They only
- 8:52have three episodes out while we're recording this, but it's like a week to
- 8:56week thing, gotcha. So the next one comes out tomorrow, I believe,
- 9:01which is Thursday. It's either Thursdays or Fridays, I don't know.
- 9:05Okay, towards the end of your week as a kid, the weekend totally.
- 9:11I love that. That's been nice. Have you been streaming anything fun?
- 9:15Oh well, I kind of have deviated here, But I want to
- 9:18talk about a movie, not that I streamed, but that I went and
- 9:20saw in the theater because I went and saw The Bike Riders rub Wow,
- 9:26that just came out. Yeah, I know I saw it last week,
- 9:28maybe like night. I don't even remember. Yeah, tell me this movie's
- 9:33good. It's really I wasn't sure. I think the title of it is
- 9:37stupid. I just want to throw that out the railway. It seems like
- 9:41a really silly title. I don't know why it strikes me so much that
- 9:45way, but I'm just not into it. But the movie itself, it's
- 9:48really good. It's about uh I guess, I don't know what time frame.
- 9:54They look like, like fifties, sixties. Yeah, that's sort of
- 9:58the time I guess. I don't remember exactly, But anyway, they start
- 10:03a motorcycle club in the Midwest, in Chicago or the Chicago Land area,
- 10:09and it's all about that and the chaos that surrounds that and man like this,
- 10:15this cast is crazy. Jody Comer is awesome in this. She's so
- 10:20so good. I mean, I know she was in Free Guy, right,
- 10:24Yeah, she was in Free Guy, and then she did that Eve
- 10:26Killing Killing Each show, which I never saw but neither, but that was
- 10:31like her. I think that was like her big breakout. That's a big
- 10:35deal. I mean that that kept getting awards all the time. I just
- 10:39never saw it. Yeah, same same here. She's fantastic in this.
- 10:43I really liked her in this. Austin Butler's great, Tom Hardy's great.
- 10:48Uh. We of course see Michael Shannon because this is a that Jeff Nichols
- 10:52guy. This is his movie and he did that like Midnight Oh, yes,
- 11:00I remember you and post saw it. Yeah, I didn't even see
- 11:03it. I didn't like I remember you talking about it. I can't remember
- 11:05what the heck gets called now Midnight Special, Midnight Special, which I didn't
- 11:11like. But I really liked this movie. I thought it was a nice
- 11:15time, some interesting stuff happening throughout it, and it's just not a lot
- 11:20of female presence in it. So just know that going in there's basically I
- 11:24think two women that speak at all during it. But sure, it's about
- 11:28a fifties motorcycle gang, so it's very dude heavy. But there's some great,
- 11:33great acting in it, and it's a pretty great movie. I really
- 11:37had a nice time. I thought it was cool. I haven't heard anything
- 11:39about it. That's cool. I'm gonna check it out. Yeah, so
- 11:41do that. But for now, should we do a few plug a roonies

- 12:46I agree. I'm with you. I feel like there's a bunch of ones
- 12:48that I forgot or something too so for sure, and I feel like there's
- 12:52somewhere it's like, oh, there's a few songs in here, count I
- 12:56tried to stay away from those same probably sneak a few you in though,
- 13:00if we're honest, I mean, you know how. Yeah, but it'll
- 13:03it'll be great. It should be a fun time, So stick around for
- 13:07that. Also, stick around because next episode Gang is gonna be just an
- 13:13all timer. I can feel it already. July is so great, ratchet
- 13:16it up. I love it. Yeah, we're gonna be talking true lies
- 13:22next time. True lies. It's finally happening. It's finally happening. We
- 13:26have a couple of guests who I think have said it on every pod they've
- 13:31been on for single time. Yep, they're like, tell me when Jruelize
- 13:35is happening, we need to be on that one. And I for one
- 13:39cannot wait to watch it because I'm saying it's been a long time. I'm
- 13:43excited for Yeah. I have like been close to watching it a few times
- 13:48semi recently, and I was like, no, save it, make it
- 13:52fresh it, save it, save your stuff for marriage. But yes,
- 13:56so stay tuned for true lies. It will be an a loot delight.
- 14:01But we are here today to talk about a movie that is just it's it's
- 14:05gonna be a crazy good time, guys. It's celebrating its twentieth anniversary.
- 14:09Uh and uh it had a big impression on us. I know that at
- 14:15least a big impression, very least it had been for sure our guest,
- 14:20Yeah, one hundred percent. That's right. Rob is showing us on the
- 14:22camera Anchorman the Legend of Ron Burgundy. I have the poster you got he
- 14:28does it's so beautiful. It's beautiful. Ah, And we decided we had
- 14:33to get a guy who also mimicked the voices and lines from this movie for
- 14:37several years and still to this day. Let's give it up for our old
- 14:41pal, Brandon Miller. What's up, Brandon? Robin Bugs? It truly
- 14:48is beauty and the Beast a handsome beast. Yes, very nice. Check
- 14:56one off for the segment later. Hell, there you go. That's good.
- 15:00We should feel free to get those quotes out because that section is going
- 15:03to last forever, to be long, going to be a long one.
- 15:07It'll be fun, though, Hi, pal, how are you good?
- 15:11Are you guys? So good? So good? Yeah, I don't know.
- 15:16I'm so excited to talk about this movie. I am so monumental.
- 15:20I don't know. I can't get over it. It's so funny because Brandon
- 15:24has lived all over the country in different places, and I swear I saw
- 15:28you more when you lived in like Denver or Vegas or then when I'm at
- 15:33home, and we need to change that, That's all I'm saying. Yeah,
- 15:35we to change it. We had that two weeks in a row when
- 15:39you guys were in Vegas and we hung out both times. Yeah, yeah,
- 15:43it was awesome. Sick. I saw you a number of times in
- 15:46Denver as well, whenever we play the Paramount, and yeah, yeah,
- 15:52hard of getting old. I guess I know. I've learned if I want
- 15:56to see Rob, I just have to book a flight to wherever they're performing.
- 15:58That works really well. I don't know if I'll do that. No,
- 16:04that's not the only time, but it is a fun time to see
- 16:07it. We're gonna be We're gonna be here, We're gonna be in in
- 16:10Hastings. That's September, so you should think about coming out. Could be
- 16:14fun. I'm gonna be there for that for sure. Do it. Yeah,
- 16:18Well, guys, we're here and this is just going to be the
- 16:21longest pod ever, So I feel like, should we just get into it.
- 16:23We're here to talk about Anchorman, the Legend of Ron Burgundy. Yes,
- 16:27twenty year anniversary. This is from the first year I ever met Brandon.
- 16:33Uh. It's also from the first year Rob and I even started hanging
- 16:37out. Really, I mean we have met I think the year prior.
- 16:40But yep, our friendship really blossomed after that. I feel like it really
- 16:44did. And I think this movie had a lot to do with it.
- 16:45It probably did. This and Fergie's buck crack as we all know there it
- 16:49is, Yeah, we all are where Wait what you've never heard that story?
- 16:57Maybe that was when you were gone. Maybe that was in three,
- 17:02could have been. We were at a party. SNL was on it.
- 17:07Uh Ferggy and the Black Eyed Peas. Yeah, they were performing on SNL
- 17:15and at one point she like, you know, was getting into the song
- 17:19and we just saw butt crack and Rob and I, you know, our
- 17:25eyes met across the party as we were just like butt crack. Nobody else
- 17:29is seeing this. It was just us two and we were locked in ye
- 17:33and Google. Yeah, good luck with that. But yeah, so I've
- 17:41gotten a soft track immediately. That's good. That's good. This is good,
- 17:45Rob, will you get it started with just a rough SYNOPSI okay.
- 17:51Hot shot television anchorman Ron Burgundy welcomes upstart reporter event Veronica Corningstone into the male
- 17:59dominated world of nineteen seventies broadcast news. That is, until the talented female
- 18:03journalist begins to outshine Burgundy air. Soon, he goes jealous, begins a
- 18:11bitter feud with Veronica, and eventually makes a vulgar slip on live TV that
- 18:15ruins his career. However, when an outrageous story breaks at the sen Diago
- 18:19Zoo, Ron may get a chance to redeem himself. I love it great,
- 18:26read great, read love that. Let's go, Yeah, he does.
- 18:33You should narrate some books or something that'd be great. But I can
- 18:36barely read you, guys, well thing, just barely act that and then
- 18:41I can do it. Yes, okay, great, I'm with you.
- 18:45Great. Let's go to Rotten Tomatoes and hear what they have to say.
- 18:52Critics have this coming in at a pretty rough sixty six percent tough, which
- 18:56is pretty dumb. Actually, it's a it's better than that. It is
- 19:00a dumb comedy, which critics don't always love. I guess, but they're
- 19:04wrong and they're stupid and I hate. But audience members have it up higher,
- 19:10not high enough, but higher at eighty six percent. So that's pretty
- 19:14good. It's great. It's pretty damn good, pretty damn good. But
- 19:18I think we should go in and talk about what we think. It's time
- 19:21for our hot take. Hot take Spicy, that's a hot take. That's
- 19:29a hot take. Great, Odin's beard, that is spicy. That Arsonist
- 19:37in their skeleton uses the shampoo in the shower. Hm hm, I will
- 19:45go first on this one. I don't have like a crazy lot to say.
- 19:49This movie played a big part in my life. As we've already said,
- 19:53in so very least as all my friends loved this movie and I loved
- 19:59this movie. We quoted it an awful lot. For a long time,
- 20:04people spoke like this. I think our buddy Nick post probably four or five
- 20:08years and arguably still to today, it talks like this. We just had
- 20:14tons of inside jokes about it. We watched it a ton. It was
- 20:18just it was a great experience. It really encapsulates that time in my life
- 20:22really well, so I cherish it. I really liked the rewatch as well.
- 20:26It's still equally hilarious. In fact, there was a bunch of stuff
- 20:30I don't even know that I got in the first time. This is one
- 20:33of those movies where if you laugh super hard, you miss like six tag
- 20:37on jokes, you know what I mean of, just like, oh okay,
- 20:41they just keep going. But it kind of started, at least for
- 20:45our generation. I think the like the ensemble crazy kooky, big comedy movies
- 20:52for us, and we saw a bunch of them afterward. Of course,
- 20:55a bunch of them were Apatow films and stuff like that afterward, But I
- 20:59felt like this kind of started that that vibe a little bit and you know,
- 21:03like the improvy stuff and just like don't take yourself too seriously, which
- 21:07is super fun. Uh. And they take a you know, a time
- 21:11in life that I knew nothing about and made me absolutely love it when like
- 21:15news anchors were kings, and that's like super funny to think about. Uh.
- 21:22I think I read a really scathing review of this movie this week talking
- 21:26about like the the way they treat women, and I was like, it's
- 21:30so clearly a farce on that whole thing. Well, like, it's so
- 21:37clearly they they made it a big part of the plot because they think it's
- 21:40so stupid and crazy that it was like that, and I just I just
- 21:44don't know that this person got that, which was really weird. So obviously
- 21:48there's some stuff said that's not great, but also I think it's very tongue
- 21:52in cheek. Anyway. I think the Grovie is hysterical. I really really
- 21:57like it. It is maybe Will Ferrell at the peak of his powers,
- 22:03and yeah, it's just funny to think about. This movie could have so
- 22:07easily not worked, but it worked really well and I still love it to
- 22:11this day. Hot take Cat so Hot, So Hot. I was obsessed
- 22:17with this movie when it came out. Hell yeah, much like you guys,
- 22:22And yeah, I had a lot of those same takes. It was
- 22:26directed by Adam McKay and this was his first feature film. Oh I didn't
- 22:32even know that that's crazy yeah boom. He and Will Ferrell wrote it and
- 22:37would collaborate several more times on some more hilarious comedies. We just did Dumb
- 22:45and Dumber, and I said that that was a top five movie that I
- 22:48quote the most. And this is also a top five movie quote two in
- 22:55like just weeks apart, which is kind of interesting. Yeah, that is
- 22:57great. I loved all these characters. They were all hilarious and really dumb.
- 23:06I thought all of the actors were so good, and you could tell
- 23:10that they felt comfortable to mess around and come up with some hilarious stuff.
- 23:15Absolutely. I really enjoyed the seventies aesthetic with the hair and the mustaches and
- 23:21the crazy suits. Hell ya, I thought that was really fun. The
- 23:22soundtrack was great, Yes, and have always loved the Afternoon Delight a cappella
- 23:30a bit. Yes, always love that, and that's why we're doing it
- 23:33for our top five draft. But yeah, my hottest take oh yeah,
- 23:37hit me top five comedy for me. Wow to hot take top five,
- 23:47I would have to think about that. It's got to be up there though.
- 23:49Hot take, Buddy, hot, thank you, thank you, Brandon.
- 23:53Yeah, what do you wow? Well, I do have a hot
- 23:57take. But we'll get there, obviously. Peek Will Ferrell early two thousands.
- 24:04Will Ferrell was anything he touched would just lit on fire, and this
- 24:08was no exception. Much. Watching it definitely brought me back twenty years to
- 24:15when we were probably just annoying to anyone around us talking like this constantly.
- 24:22Wasn't in on the joke, like say doctor Wold. But and yeah,
- 24:30like I haven't watched this movie for quite a while and it so there was
- 24:33a lot that I didn't remember and the lot that I noticed, like Seth
- 24:37Rogan is in this movie. Yeah right crazy. I was like, wait,
- 24:41that's okay. I knew that because of the like spin off movie the
- 24:47like what does it wake up? Oh yeah or something that he's like a
- 24:52big part of that. Oh is he really? Yeah? Watched that was
- 24:56that Like the dvd, the extra dvd, it was basically an entire other
- 25:00movie using outtakes, And I remember that and like Maya Rudolph was in it
- 25:07like a whole nother cast. It was crazy, wild, just nuts anyway,
- 25:11Sorry, but yeah, I mean my hot take is actually that this
- 25:17one doesn't sit with me in the same way like a Dumb and Dumber or
- 25:22a Tommy Boy. Like interesting, it's it's still like it's still up there.
- 25:27I don't know if it's just different times in your life because it was
- 25:30like ten or so years earlier for the others, but sure, is it
- 25:33like too dumb? What's the deal? Well, rewatching it, I was
- 25:37like, I remember all this and it's awesome, but and I would laugh.
- 25:40I was laughing out loud multiple times. But still it was just like,
- 25:44yeah, this just isn't one that I like rewatch every year or so
- 25:47like the other ones are, which well doesn't It doesn't necessarily say I don't
- 25:52like the movie, but it's just not as repeatable as the others that I
- 25:56think also, like Tommy Boy for instance, right, has a lot more
- 26:03heart to it than this does. And not in a negative way. It's
- 26:06just like they weren't trying to do that at all, really, right,
- 26:08Like in this movie, they were just like this is let's just make the
- 26:11weirdest thing we can not like a super funny movie that has like kind of
- 26:15an endearing plot as well. So I totally see that part. I kind
- 26:21of didn't realize or remember from however long ago when the last time I watched
- 26:27it, I just thin the stories. Yeah, like everything out everything that
- 26:33happens is just obviously in the brilliant like multiple take in rov that they did
- 26:40for just about every exchange that goes on in this movie. And you can
- 26:42just even even when you watch don't watch the outtakes yet, you can just
- 26:45imagine the kind of crap they're saying to each other and each take of this
- 26:48movie, and it's and these guys are all hilarious. But yeah, I
- 26:52mean it's just it's as far as one that I watch again every year,
- 26:56this one's just not on that list. Oh totally, that's bad. I
- 27:00mean, I hadn't seen this in a long time. I guess for me
- 27:03too, so maybe this is for me. But love it. Hot take
- 27:07Buddy, Hot take smoking. If you don't like this movie, though,
- 27:11you can get off the call now. Yeah. Yeah, all that talk
- 27:15about one in the morning, I was like, yeah, I'm just gonna
- 27:17have to bail so yeah, by well, let's go and talk about the
- 27:25acting performances in this film. Let's name the dude the dude. I'm the
- 27:30dude, So that's what you call me, you know that, or his
- 27:34dude or duder or you know, el dudo reno. If you're not into
- 27:40the whole brevity thing, keep going due Will Ferrell. I mean, come
- 27:45on, that makes sense. It makes a lot of sense. He's probably
- 27:51I'm trying to look at my quote list, probably about ninety percent of what
- 27:53I have on that list too. But like I said a few minutes ago,
- 27:59peak Will Ferrell early two thousands. Was he just coming off of SNL
- 28:03during this one or was he still on at that time? That's a question.
- 28:07I don't know. I don't know if he was, Yeah, it
- 28:10would have been closed for sure, because I remember when when he first came
- 28:14on SNL and everyone was kind of dumping on that new cast and I was
- 28:17like, this guy is hilarious. And then like it took it took a
- 28:21couple of years for kind of everyone else to catch up, and then and
- 28:25then he just like just went around like tearing up for years. Oh I
- 28:30watch it. I'll still watch anything he's into this stage just this just because
- 28:34it's Wilfare. Yeah, absolutely due A quick Google says he left in two
- 28:41thousand and two, so it was just before this them and this is probably
- 28:45the first thing he did after Old School. Old School was two thousand and
- 28:48three. Yeah, yeah, and then he blew up big time. And
- 28:51I think ELF was the same year two thousand and three around there. But
- 28:56yeah, yes, Will Ferrell is obviously the dude. Ron Burgundy is one
- 29:04of my favorite characters of all time. I love that he keeps bringing Ron
- 29:08Burgundy back at like he was just Tom Brady roast. He brings it out
- 29:15quite a bit. He's so dumb, he loves Scotch, loves women and
- 29:21reading the news. I've stolen a lot of his vocal exercises before I have
- 29:26to go and sing love it and yeah he's the balls, New York Balls.
- 29:34Yeah I'm gonna I'm gonna pick him as well. Will Ferrell, I
- 29:38just think he's great. He also has such great moments where he's kind of
- 29:41like the straight man for a minute in this movie, but like still somehow
- 29:45gets to be super wacky too, Like I feel like that's really hard to
- 29:49pull off, and he does it really well in this so uh, I
- 29:53just thought I really appreciated that this time. You know, yeah, he's
- 29:56not scared to like let other people shine. For sure, he will switch
- 30:00hit immediately in the same dialogue where he's being the mentor being this, and
- 30:06then he just says something equally or even more stupid than what the other characters
- 30:10saying. It's like, yeah, you had him for a second there,
- 30:12but then you went right back to Ron Bergen. But like the scene where
- 30:17he's like Paul Rudd's look, I was in love once and he's like,
- 30:18what's her name? I don't remember, and he's like, well, not
- 30:22a great start, but like this pretty good stuff. Like I like that
- 30:29a lot, So yeah, I'll pick him. Should we go forward and
- 30:33talk about the rest of the cast? So many people, Yes, let's
- 30:37go to the tucha tend to pick one. Brandon, who's your teuch,
- 30:44I'm gonna go with Christina Applegate. No, yeah, just us. I
- 30:49mean I was a big Kelly Bundy fan back in the nineties, and yeah
- 30:55it's her again, so definitely Christina. I mean, but there's a ton
- 31:00of other on the of the news team guys that it's actually Steve Carrell for
- 31:06me, that is that was the one I was going to pick. I
- 31:08was really waffling between Steve Carell and Paul Ruddy, but I think just Steve
- 31:15Carell just being so dumb and this was really really funny. This was like
- 31:21right before his breakout with forty year old virgin and yes, and so I
- 31:26don't I don't know if it's like looking back in time twenty years ago and
- 31:30seeing the seeing him do this, just the stupid stuff in this one,
- 31:33and you just laughed because of everything he's done since then. But because I
- 31:37don't remember laughing at that character in particular as hard as I did yesterday,
- 31:42what I was on this watch sure, sure, I remember being very impressed
- 31:45because he stole Bruce Almighty. Yeah yeah, and then some in this I
- 31:53was just like, Oh, this guy's just really crazy. He's really really
- 31:59funny. I didn't really watch The Daily Show back in the day. Yeah,
- 32:02like I know he was one of the guys on there, but yeah,
- 32:06man, he him as Brick is just gold. It's so funny,
- 32:10like and he never they never punched down at him, and he never really
- 32:15punches. He's just dumb and oblivious. He's not like I don't know.
- 32:20I just love that they never they never go too far, Like I never
- 32:22was like, oh, come on, guys, that's your being a jerk
- 32:25now, you know, Like it's so fun. I loved that. Those
- 32:30are great picks. I just want to quick second the Christina Applegate because she's
- 32:36the best, and she fought back more than I remembered in this watch through
- 32:40anyway. Maybe I just was paying more attention or something, but like she
- 32:45was, you know, like giving it back to him a lot more,
- 32:47which I thought was great, and I liked it. All. Yeah,
- 32:50women can do stuff now, man, you know not what I That is
- 32:52what I meant, right, That's what I meant. She had a balance
- 32:55of being like the straight woman to all the nonsense, but at the same
- 33:00time it yes too. Yeah, you could tell she was also like but
- 33:05also like screw you, I'm good at this and I'll fight if I need
- 33:08to or whatever. You know, Like I thought she was awesome, so
- 33:12she was. I love both of those. This movie is so crazy that
- 33:17Catherine han is essentially an extra, which is insane. She has a bigger
- 33:23part in the other film as well. That makes so much sense. I'm
- 33:29going to shout out to Fred Willard just because I love him so much,
- 33:32all right, p that guy's amazing. He's just so funny in this and
- 33:37he like brings this calmness kind of but also like just accepts all their stupid
- 33:44stuff they're doing for the most part. Well, and the ongoing bit with
- 33:49every time he's on the phone with his son, who's a serial killer.
- 33:53Yeah, that is a little tough. I kind of forgot that through line,
- 33:57uh, with a lot of what's happened in the real world since then.
- 34:02It's a couple of those are like, yeah, down the gun,
- 34:07we'll play it off as a joker, right, let the marching band go.
- 34:12Yeah, yeah, yeah, pretty wild stuff. But I just thought
- 34:16he was great in this. Well, of course he's hilarious and you could
- 34:20tell he was doing a lot of improv and he lives in that world.
- 34:23But we didn't really talk about Paul Rudd. I know I mentioned him for
- 34:28a second, but Paul Rudd, he's so great, is a national treasure.
- 34:31We love him so much. But him is Brian Fantana just goofy,
- 34:37delightful anytime Panda comes up. Ever, Panda, I say it every time,
- 34:46every single time. You have to it's so good. There's a lot
- 34:52more people, Brandon, who is another one of your people? Ten more
- 34:57people, ah Man Kecner. I think this was one of the first things
- 35:05I remember really being memorable from him, at least in the way I watch
- 35:08movies. I know you go in depth on actors a lot more than I
- 35:13do, or I'm not sure if that was the case twenty years ago,
- 35:15but this was one of the first things I saw him in that I was
- 35:19really like, this guy's pretty funny too. He had in this killed me
- 35:23and I didn't. Maybe I think I'm picking up were they coding his character
- 35:29as a closeted almost sexual Is that I mean before? But like the sexually
- 35:36harassing Marino part at the end, I was like, Okay, that tracks
- 35:39with the way he's acting in other moments, but yeah, totally, Yeah,
- 35:45that was great. He loves some wrong and damn loves Vince Vaughan is
- 35:52west Man. Tooth was so fun at the time, so all of the
- 35:57guys that all of the cameos for the A the other Kid. Yeah,
- 36:01well I love that they also got Luke Wilson because you know they had just
- 36:05done the old Yeah, damn hades that one. I also love that when
- 36:20Vince Bawd and his crew come riding up on the bicycles and they're like,
- 36:23oh, you guys just out for a little stroll, and they're like making
- 36:27fun of them. Meanwhile they're riding around on bicycles together. That's a crew.
- 36:31Yeah, that just maybe giggle so much. I loved it, like,
- 36:35oh, it's good. Chris Parnell has a couple of quotes that I
- 36:39say all the time. Yeah, he's from this. Also shout out to
- 36:45Baxter, who is just an adorable little pop in this movie. Jack Jack
- 36:53Black God, it's so funny. Oh he punted. Uh. Fred Armison
- 37:06had his cameos Tino, which was fun. Tim Robbins in there, Tim
- 37:12Robbins great, I guess Ben Ben Tiller. Yeah. The only other person
- 37:19I wrote down was Danny Trejo as the Yes, that was fun. That
- 37:23seems stuff. Now I don't speak Spanish. I'm sorry, I don't speak
- 37:30Spanish. He's just so pissed at him when he says that. It's like
- 37:35cool, cool, thanks, But yeah, you mentioned Seth Rogan had just
- 37:42the smallest role on this. It's funny because he's listed like fourth or something
- 37:45on IM dB just because he's a big but yeah, not in this movie
- 37:53so much. Yeah, such a great supporting cast. They were all in
- 38:00so many good scenes. Oh uh, why don't we go to the next
- 38:02one. Let's let's pick our favorite scene, and let's pick the dingus is
- 38:09quite simple, really ingus, ingus. I can talk about my dingus all
- 38:14night long. This was impossible. What did you number one? First?
- 38:21Like, I mean mine is probably the the news anchor brawl, the news
- 38:28team brace, oh for sure. Like in terms of scenes, not a
- 38:34lot really add to the story, to remove the story along. It's just
- 38:38what's the most ridiculous sequence of events that occurs in a given few minutes in
- 38:44this movie? And I think that one's got to be it, oh for
- 38:46sure. And if you count that with the scene after it where they're discussing,
- 38:53yes, like that is a great one. Two punch. I love
- 38:58it. I like the uh basically bricks description of it. Is anybody that
- 39:02watched the movie, that's about what they would catch out of that, because
- 39:06there's so much random crap going on turns totally unbelievable. It's so stupid.
- 39:14Yeah, that's really fun. I definitely wrote that down as well. I
- 39:22out of the like fifteen scenes that I thought of. I thought when they
- 39:27all shoot their shot with Veronica, so pretty great. Like Brick goes up
- 39:31and asks about the pants party, Brian unleashes sex Panther, which is evergreen.
- 39:39Those two is so funny to this day for sure. For sure Brick's
- 39:45part in that scene. Last night, when I was watching it, I
- 39:47had to pause the movie because I was laughing so hard. And he was
- 39:51like, Okay, let's go okay, now you just hear stuff in the
- 39:54background to the ground. I was like, I'm trying to pay attention for
- 39:59tomorrow, so I gotta positive for a second because I was that one just
- 40:02hit me right in the right spot last night, and I was like,
- 40:05yep, I gotta pause because that's the one, the big crash, like
- 40:07you're saying, he runs into something in the background. Yeah, it's perfect.
- 40:14It's a Maron Champ for some chicken, maybe some sex. See what
- 40:20happens. Which I said that line a million times in college, often joking
- 40:24and a serious and a serious manner a couple of times, probably multiple times.
- 40:30Both of us was cool and I always chose chicken. Yeah, he
- 40:36was always about the chicken. Part, and then Ron does his thousand curls
- 40:42Oh god, yes, yes, and she agrees in over thousand. But
- 40:50they go out as co workers then and he gets a massive erection. Oh
- 40:53my god, it's great of the pants, it's the pleats, got it,
- 41:00take these back to the pants store. So yeah, I would pick
- 41:06all of that as a scene and cheat. I love that. If we
- 41:12want to pick the gang fight and then the like sort of you know,
- 41:15chatting about the gang fight with that, can I just throw out my face?
- 41:22One of my favorite parts of the Gang Fight is where they're like talking
- 41:24at the beginning and all of a sudden, Brick is with the other crew
- 41:30over here. That cracks me up every time. I don't know, it's
- 41:34such a dumb joke, but I love it. It's so hard, like
- 41:37they're all just raging at each other, and Burgundy lays down the ground rules,
- 41:43Yeah, no touching of the hair or face, and then Benston is
- 41:45like, of course, of course, of course, of course there's I
- 41:51mean in the very beginning when he's going through all the different vocal warm ups
- 41:54and everything. That as a runner up for certain moment that Rob and I
- 42:00did constantly at bars in college, where he drinks a drink and he's like,
- 42:07I know, And honestly, I kind of forgot that it was from
- 42:10this still, So when I saw it, I was like, that's it.
- 42:14That's what I've been doing the last twenty years. That's what I thought,
- 42:16because that's, you know, doing most of the drinking, So I
- 42:20never knew what was happening other than I thought, that's what. Yeah,
- 42:24that's so good. I just I think that's a hilarious, so funny.
- 42:30He's rushing, but my giant beers at Old Chicago's so big. And then
- 42:37Glick's ad him too, and it you know, they refused to serve me
- 42:42water in one of those huge steins, like it was. They were just
- 42:45it was a flat no every time weird. It was rude. I even
- 42:50offered to pay once and they were like, nope, nope, wait,
- 42:53it's rude. But my number one runner up other than that scene was when
- 42:59Veronica and Ron fight, and this time it struck me as so funny.
- 43:04She picks up that giant ass typewriter and I had to pause my TV laugh
- 43:12at that. Then she takes off the TV like the rabbit ears the antenna
- 43:16and she just whip Yeah, she does the mace and then he macees himself
- 43:22by accident. It's just the physical comedy in that scene is so funny.
- 43:27It's pretty good. I think it's hysterical. I really like that scene a
- 43:30lot. Another runner up for me was just the party scene. We had
- 43:37some very memorable quotes by the pool. We started off with that curly too
- 43:43right, I know, but him meeting Veronica and all the things he says
- 43:47to her there, it's fun. It's very good, so fun. Love
- 43:52that. Yeah, the yes flute scene is a delight. It is No,
- 43:59I couldn't pass. I couldn't possibly come out of the sleeves coming at
- 44:07you. Yeah, I can't hear it. I can't hear it. Oh
- 44:12there, there, it is there, it is okay. We got so
- 44:19good. Also, that's how I think anytime I've ever been called up to
- 44:23do a song on stage with somebody, that's how I feel. Is there
- 44:27people are going to see me and be like, He's like, I couldn't
- 44:29possibly take a microphone out of my pocket or something. Yeah, I love
- 44:35that. I love just the random you'll be playing. He's just like walking
- 44:43across people's tables and stuff underneath the underneath the stall where the guys. Yeah,
- 44:51yes, so dirty, that jacket is ruined. And I guess the
- 45:00afternoon to light then is that part? No, that's a separate scene,
- 45:04right, that's a separate scene. Yeah, after he's made love, that's
- 45:10yeah, that's a great scene too. That's so funny. I love it.
- 45:15I think you have mental problems. Yeah, you have mental problems.
- 45:20Oh my god. So the only other one I wrote down is the bad
- 45:24man punting Baxter leading to the glass case motion. Yes, that scene is
- 45:30just insane. I didn't remember how much how long the incoherent screaming went on
- 45:37for in the so long over the top, and it's so funny, classic
- 45:43Wilfarell meltdown. It's so good, dude, it's amazing. And then Baxter
- 45:50comes back and he's just like, I met one of your people. I
- 45:53was a friend talking to the bear. My cousin Catajo is my cousin.
- 46:01I will tell tales if you're those of your kindness, and it's like,
- 46:09wrap that up with a bow. We're good. I guess you know what
- 46:13I'm seeing. The sixty six percent I get. I get the sixty six
- 46:17percent. Now that we're talking about Yeah, that's fair, that's fair.
- 46:21But I loved it. All right, Well, what do you guys think
- 46:24should we go on and start talking about some of these quotes? We better?
- 46:29All right, show me the money, Show me the money, show
- 46:34me brand to watch. Watch you snuck one in there? I see what
- 46:44you, brandy, Why don't you go first say to be honest as many
- 46:50as you want, because seriously, there's no shortage. There's no shortage towards
- 46:54the beginning after the big party. This is one we definitely use multiple times
- 47:00in multiple places. I am hung over, hung yes, yes, dude,
- 47:08hung over. Then of course I'm Ron Burgundy. Yes, the question
- 47:16about oh my god, so we put a question mark on the teleprompter.
- 47:21So good. Oh it's great. Keep going, dude, keep going,
- 47:27so many I'm Ron Burgundy. Go find yourself, san diego there it is.
- 47:35I should have said that for a scene because when he afterwards just like,
- 47:38really good, hustle there, really good, yeah, sharp, show
- 47:45everybody on the floor too. That was really great. I'm gonna have to
- 47:49fire your you're firing, You're fired. And then he like sees the thing
- 47:53and is that when he says the great Odin's the great yes, I said,
- 48:00what. Oh so funny. He's got a few, a few things
- 48:05where he says the random, like by the Beauty of Zeus, Yes,
- 48:09Knights of Columbus, Columbus that I did not and one really got me last
- 48:15night too. Yeah, it's random. I love Scotch, Scotchy, Scotch
- 48:23Scotches. That said a lot. Yep. Oh that's great. Well,
- 48:34I'm gonna come in with some. Uh no, she gets a special cologne.
- 48:37It's called sex Panther biodeon. It's illegal in nine countries. Yep.
- 48:40It's made with bits of real panthers, so you know it's good. It's
- 48:44quite pungent. Oh yeah, it's a formidable scent stings the nostrils in a
- 48:51good way. Yep, Brian, I'm gonna be honest with you. That
- 48:53smells like pure gasoline. They've done studies. You know, sixty percent of
- 48:58the time it works every time. That doesn't make sense. Well, let's
- 49:04let's go see if we can make this little kiddy perr and then all the
- 49:10things that it smells like that people are yelling. Did you guys notice Judd
- 49:15Apatow back there with the turn covered and burning air. That's jet appo so
- 49:20funny. I just like as Fontana's realizing that it's an awful smell, He's
- 49:25like, God, yes, what stinks. Yeah, you're right. This
- 49:29is bakfoots Dick's dick use diaper filled with Indian food, Indian food. And
- 49:42then it's Adam McKay hosing him off. I didn't really. He's the one
- 49:49that says in the copy, raccoon got in the copy here. That's hilarious,
- 49:54super random. I definitely had to had to take a second to think
- 50:00of the logistics of a raccoon in the copy in the copier. Yeah,
- 50:04it's really great, really really great. Boy, that escalated quickly. I
- 50:08mean that really got out of hand fast. Jumped up a notch. You
- 50:13did, didn't it? Yeah? I snabbed a man in the heart.
- 50:16I saw that Brick killed a guy. Did you throw a trident? Yeah?
- 50:21There were horses and a man on fire, and I killed a guy
- 50:23with a trident. Brick. I've been meaning to talk to you about that.
- 50:28You should find yourself a safe house or a relative close by. Laylow
- 50:30for a while ago probably wanted for murder, probably wanted for murder. That
- 50:37that part is clearly clearly spliced from multiple improv for sure, but yes,
- 50:42because he like mentioned that something like you're seeing it for the first time with
- 50:45brick like three times in a row. That's so funny. You killed a
- 50:50guy, you better, you better lay low? Yeah, you been meaning
- 50:53to tell you. Yes, it's like you've been talking to him about it
- 50:57for thirty seconds. Right there is where there is. I'm very aroused when
- 51:07they're walking and just throwing their whatever they were eating just right on the ground.
- 51:17So funny. I noticed a lot of littering. Where'd you get your
- 51:22clothes from the toilet store? Even the guy that can't I love that.
- 51:36Nothing you gotts say nothing? Go for a be you can say somebody,
- 51:40Okay, it's anchor man, not anchor lady. And that is a scientific
- 51:46fact. Yes, I love that a lot. I don't know what we
- 51:52are yelling about. Loud noises was screamed so many times early thousands, yep,
- 52:02while we were in college. Uh I. Also, I don't even
- 52:07remember this line, but it cracked me up a ton. It's terrible.
- 52:10She has beautiful eyes and her hair smells like cinnamon. Yes, I love
- 52:15that so much. That was great. Another one that was around a lot
- 52:22was I read somewhere that their periods can attract bears. Bears can smell the
- 52:24menstruation, they can smell the menstruation. Well, that's just great. You
- 52:29hear that, ad bears. Now you're putting the whole station in jeopardy.
- 52:34YEP said that's so many times, so many times. And then maybe the
- 52:40one. I don't know, it doesn't matter. This one was also said
- 52:45a lot. I will smash your face into a car windshield and then take
- 52:49your mother, Dorothy man Tooth out for a nice seafood dinner and never call
- 52:53her again. Dorothy mare Tooth is a saint? Is a saint? It
- 53:00is was used quite often. Yes, I always talking about right. I
- 53:07always say Shannon Lundquist is a saint. So much so much so that Nate
- 53:12Stone, our old merchandise guy, he says Shannon Lundquist is a saint all
- 53:16the time. Another like she's really funny. Another outburst one that we probably
- 53:22didn't use the exact quote, but just like the manner, isn't it.
- 53:25You can use my office and afterwards maybe we could go to lunch. Lower
- 53:31your voice from that felt like it's just straight up I have a hard time
- 53:37controlling the volume of my voice, of my thoughts. Yeah, yeah,
- 53:44I love that so much. Uh. Also, I love carpet, I
- 53:49loved desk, brick. Are are you just looking at things in the office
- 53:52and saying you love them? I love lamp. Do you really love the
- 53:55lamp or are you just saying it because you saw it? I love lamp.
- 53:59I love lamp. I love lamp. It's line read on that has
- 54:02always cracked me up because he's just like, I love lamp so good,
- 54:08so much conviction. I love that someone else can take something for a while.
- 54:14You were my hero, Ron. When do you have to say that
- 54:16you come up with the stink like that poop poop mouth pop out of your
- 54:22mouth, garth? If I would give you some money out of my wallet,
- 54:25would that he's the pain? Would that make it better? It sounds
- 54:32like a gay that. Yes, that was Chap. I definitely saw that.
- 54:39That was right before the I'm definitely aroused, right, yeah, conversation
- 54:46conversation. Yeah, the bad man punted Baxter so good. You're a real
- 54:55hooker. I'm gonna slap you in public, dude, all the things he
- 55:00said to her. Uh yeah, well, I'm gonna bunch you in the
- 55:06Ovary right, and the baby Maker. We did say that a lot.
- 55:10Yeah. I like when like they have that exchange where it's quiet on the
- 55:17video and it looks like they're just enjoying a little conversation after the news and
- 55:22they're just and then she does the jazz flute part and he just loses it.
- 55:24He's like, ok yeah, okay, okay, it's so good across
- 55:30the line. Uh. I did when Jack when Jack Black hits him with
- 55:36when he gets hit with the burrito, and he's like, did you see
- 55:39that? I just had an accident because you hit me with the brito.
- 55:42He's like, I did see that. That was a terrific little spill.
- 55:45That is quite a raspberry. Yeahrusive Scotch one. I did a lot.
- 55:59Was I don't know how to with this, but I'm kind of a big
- 56:01deal. Really. People know me. Well, I'm very happy for you.
- 56:07I'm very important. I have many leather bound books, and my apartment
- 56:12smells of rich mahogany, rich mahogany. I love the leather bound books.
- 56:20Is really followed right by the I want to be on you sequence exactly want
- 56:27to wait, wait, wait wait, I want to be on you.
- 56:30I want to be on you. Yes, he says it again, He's
- 56:31just like, dang it, I mean a case of emotion. Yes,
- 56:40so damn hot milk was a bad choice. O milk was a bad choice.
- 56:45Bad choice somehow really made it into our lexicon. Was a bad choice.
- 56:54You want to dance, Ronnie, Oh, I want a poker,
- 57:00you know, with with West the switch plade. She pointed to her boobies,
- 57:14like, oh my god, she did. She did good, Like
- 57:22Paul is talking to is clearly not interested in him at all. And then
- 57:25ron comes up, and then she's like, oh, yeah, right.
- 57:30I don't normally do this, but I felt compelled to tell you something.
- 57:34You have an absolutely breathtaking heine. I mean that thing's good. I want
- 57:39to be friends with it. I don't want to be friends with that.
- 57:45Oh god, you are still what did you say? What did you say?
- 57:54I said, your hair looks stupid. That's so good it Sorry,
- 58:00Brandon, go ahead. I was saying, there's still a ton of things
- 58:02that we said all the time that we have not said yet. Oh for
- 58:06sure, come see how good I look. Yes, I immediately regret this
- 58:13decision. Jump into the bare pit. Don't act like you're not impressed.
- 58:20That's a good one. That's a good one. Deep down in my stomach,
- 58:24I pure straight hate you. But god, damn it, do I
- 58:29respect you? And he kisses him on the forehead. Smooch, brother,
- 58:38I'm expressing my inner anguish to the majesty of song. I'm storming your castle
- 58:47on my steed. My lady, did we say the Horror Island one already
- 58:52or not? No? No, why don't you go back to your home
- 58:55on Horror Island. Strangely, the person I know who quotes that one the
- 59:01most is Kate Duncan's. Yeah, she's always telling me to go to Whoror
- 59:07Island. I believe it. I believe it, single guy, you know?
- 59:14Yeah, one that. So I watched it on Hulu on this last
- 59:22rewatch nice. So there were some scenes that weren't in there, so I
- 59:27think I always watched like the like Extended or the Unrated or something totally but
- 59:31this was not on there. But it was always one of my favorite ones.
- 59:35It's Champ saying, tell me about it. I woke up this morning
- 59:37and I a squirrel. I mean it, literally, hell of it is.
- 59:43Damn thing's still alive. So I got a covered squirrel down there in
- 59:45the office. Don't know what to name it. Brick says, Oh,
- 59:49I'm sorry, Champ, I think I ate your chocolate squirrel. Yes,
- 59:53that one always so that was on like extras or something. It was not
- 59:59extra. It was just like I watched it the director's cut or something watched
- 1:00:05too, and I I like noted the absence of that. I was like,
- 1:00:09I need too. Yeah, I thought the same thing. Yeah,
- 1:00:12I thought the same thing. That's funny. I guess this was DVD time,
- 1:00:15so they might have done like the extended scenes or whatever. Yeah,
- 1:00:20standy cut like you said, like, there's the one. I think it's
- 1:00:22an outtake in the credits. Rick, before I let you go, are
- 1:00:27you still having your celebrity golf through it? No? Too many people died
- 1:00:30last year or so, Yeah, that he wore cracks up. Too many
- 1:00:37people died. Oh we haven't even said Santiago discovered by the whole a Whales
- 1:00:45for China. That was one of the ones I didn't put on my list
- 1:00:49because I figured one of you guys would grab it. I was like,
- 1:00:52we'll be cut. Yeah, I thought the same thing. I always loved
- 1:00:57that one because in the like the gag reel. His his reading on that
- 1:01:00is a whales vagina. He's like, this is the most ridiculous thing.
- 1:01:10You want to throw down fistic cups. Fine, I've got Jack Johnson and
- 1:01:14Tom O'Leary right here. I love that he names his fists and fantana.
- 1:01:22What was his I know what you're asking yourself, and the answer is yes,
- 1:01:27I have a nickname for my penis. It's called the octagon, but
- 1:01:30I also nicknamed the testes. My left one is James Westfall and my right
- 1:01:36one is doctor Kenneth Noisewater. You ladies play your cards right, you just
- 1:01:38might get to meet the whole gang. Doctor Kenneth noise Water is his right
- 1:01:46testicle. Yeah, that's great. I love the sequence of prank calls they
- 1:01:52make to Veronica in the office when you're like five ft away from her.
- 1:01:54Yeah, this is this is your doctor. I have your doctor report here,
- 1:01:58and guess what you got knocked up? You got you should probably leave
- 1:02:01town. You should quit the business. I think she bought it. I
- 1:02:06think she bought it. Bought it. Oh god. His doctor's name was
- 1:02:15always like like, oh yeah, I don't remember what just jim Richelds rich
- 1:02:22Olds uh, I miss being with you. I miss being near you.
- 1:02:28I miss your laugh, I miss your scent, I miss your musk.
- 1:02:31I miss your musk. I said that you said I miss your musk a
- 1:02:35lot. What when this is all gets sorted out, what do you think
- 1:02:38you and me shoul get an apartment together? Just take it easy, Champ?
- 1:02:45Why don't you stop talking for a while, Maybe sent the next couple
- 1:02:47of plays out? You know what I mean? Yeah? Like Champ Champs,
- 1:02:52little intro champ here. I'm all about having fun, you know,
- 1:02:57get a couple of cocktails in me, start a fire and someone kitchen,
- 1:03:00maybe go to sea World, take my pants off. Anyway, I'm kind
- 1:03:04of known for my catchphrase whammy way. Also, he never says that catchphrase
- 1:03:14again the entire trow, which is really great. He does, though,
- 1:03:19he says he's like, he's like wear me like he says that just Ina,
- 1:03:24I think when he when he is hitting on Veronica after like the gotcha.
- 1:03:30Oh yeah, yeah, I like that. You scor scorpion woman cracked
- 1:03:38me up another refrigerator. Geez, how did you do that? I'm not
- 1:03:45even mad, I'm impressed. It's amazing. We said that so I'm not
- 1:03:50not even mad, I'm impressed. And then then rob ate a whole wheel
- 1:03:53cheese. Yeah I did do that. That was that same year. Remember
- 1:04:04the cheese Tourred choose in my hands to pass out to everyone else? Do
- 1:04:11you remember that didn't work out? It's like you are really barking up the
- 1:04:15wrong tree. Lady. This is you've just killed this cheese. You've condemned
- 1:04:19it to a life in my colon. Didn't you get like tricked into eating
- 1:04:24the wheel of cheese? Like someone said, I just ate mine, you
- 1:04:27should do yours. It was like a like a herfin doll kind of let's
- 1:04:31see if we can. He always said, like eating contest things. I
- 1:04:36don't remember exactly, but I do remember. It was like chive in there
- 1:04:42and stuff and so it was good for a little bit, but not and
- 1:04:47one it was like a small ash wheel, right, it was. It
- 1:04:51was like it was like that, but it was enough. Dude. Was
- 1:04:57of people thinking you ate like a twelve pound wheel the cheese? Thank you?
- 1:05:00No, it was It wasn't twelve pounds. Let's not be ridiculous.
- 1:05:04Yeah, when in Rome, let's go and get it a wonderful Say,
- 1:05:13oh, I've never heard of it. It's wonderful though. That same trip
- 1:05:16in Paris, I ate that Brie and I ate the mold, uncultured swim
- 1:05:23from the north woods of Minnesota. I was like, I didn't know well.
- 1:05:28To be fair, that did cost a hero at a convenience store too,
- 1:05:30so it was like you top shelf. She hitched blackout too. I
- 1:05:34haven't gone back to Bree since I can't handle it anymore. Trust issues.
- 1:05:41Was that the same trip where I ended up eating the buttermilk. This is
- 1:05:47something's wrong with this? Oh? And then it sat there long enough that
- 1:05:51I just said, why did you need that? I don't know what's in
- 1:05:55front of me. Remind me to not put my kids in front of me.
- 1:06:00Quoting ourselves. Yes, yes, the trip where I put on your
- 1:06:04wife pleaser, Rob, Yes, wife Peter pleaser. We Yeah, it
- 1:06:15looked like a like a wrestler's leotard on me. It was really looked like
- 1:06:20a single dude. It was so funny, so many memorable moments from that
- 1:06:26trip. It was ridiculous. Bathroom Yes, you guys, we're still quoting
- 1:06:33anchorments. Sorry, sorry, I make fart noises with my mouth. It's
- 1:06:41so good. Look the most glorious rainbow ever. Oh, do me on.
- 1:06:48It really got me this time so good. You're watching Channel four News
- 1:06:59with five time Emmy Award winning anchor Ron Burgundy and Tits McGee. Good evening,
- 1:07:04San Diego. I'm Veronica Corningstone, Tits Maggie is on vacation. I'm
- 1:07:16tonight. We're not workers, we're co people. We're copp You'll be a
- 1:07:23woman, I'll be a man. I'm not a baby. I'm a man.
- 1:07:30I'm an anchor. Man made the Eiffel Tower of a medalist fro Yes,
- 1:07:36dude, Yes, your brain's the third the size of ours. It's
- 1:07:42science. You said that a lot too, Just science. You know.
- 1:07:46I don't speak Spanish. Oh it's a deep burned, so deep. Lift
- 1:07:53my right arm because I did so many I don't know if you heard me
- 1:07:56counting. I did over a thousand. The upper doors. It's boring.
- 1:08:03It's my life, it's my life. Uh, that might be all of
- 1:08:10them for me. I just right, I already said it. It was
- 1:08:13the balls. But he had a voice that could make a wolverine purr,
- 1:08:16and suit so fine that made Sinatra look like a hobo. In other words,
- 1:08:20Ron Burgundy was the ball the balls. I also liked what's your name?
- 1:08:27What is it? Lanolin? I don't believe you. I don't believe
- 1:08:44so many of these quotes. Dude, all right, I think we should
- 1:08:49end on that. Yeah, that's a great one. Good call. Let's
- 1:08:51move to peak moments when the crying game. This is a quick one.
- 1:08:57No chance, no chance he cried in this one. Interesting? Are in
- 1:09:01any thoughts? I got nothing? I'm maybe nope, nope, No I
- 1:09:09didn't cry. I will. I won't shrag it on No, not even
- 1:09:12close. I didn't think. So. Yeah. Well, let's move ahead
- 1:09:17then to some movie terrifia, here, shall we. The Mexican restaurant Veronica
- 1:09:23sits in with the girls from the Station is named escupimos ensue alemento in English.
- 1:09:30That means we spit in your food to those pretty probably your food,
- 1:09:35I think. But as you were saying, I'm like, oh, that's
- 1:09:40not good. Yeah right right, whoops. Many of the actors and actresses
- 1:09:45were good at improvisation. They would sometimes do up to twenty different versions of
- 1:09:49reaction lines, trying out the first thing that popped into their heads, which
- 1:09:54is really fun. If if there was like a four hour long just watching
- 1:09:59you roll and other takes for this movie. I would go to a theater
- 1:10:01and watch that. Yeah, my TikTok algorithm. I get Anchorman two gag
- 1:10:11reel all the time, like he comes up and like I didn't even really
- 1:10:15enjoy that one and anyway as much as this one. But they laughed a
- 1:10:19lot, and Anchorman two and the gag reel is worth watching. That's really
- 1:10:24great, just like God when he's like a whales vagina vagina, so good.
- 1:10:34Will Ferrell graduated from college with a degree in journalism, and he even
- 1:10:39anchored the local news a few times before breaking into copy, which I think
- 1:10:43is crazy. There's gotta be something on YouTube of that somewhere. Maybe,
- 1:10:47I wonder that's a good question. Huh. This film is. This film
- 1:10:53had been pitched to DreamWorks almost twenty times before before it was greenlit, and
- 1:10:59it was only so after Old School and Elf, like we said earlier,
- 1:11:02had had a bunch of success. DreamWorks had little faith in the film,
- 1:11:06doubting Will Ferrell and Adam McKay could pull off an entire film based on news
- 1:11:11anchors. But the film grossed eighty four million dollars domestically, and McKay had
- 1:11:15so much extra footage he made a second film out of it. So what's
- 1:11:21up? Yeah, yeah, I think it was Elf and Old School the
- 1:11:26same year. Yeah, they both said three, So which is crazy.
- 1:11:31Will Ferrell apparently actually plays the flute and has since elementary school, which I
- 1:11:35think is fun. He the right like in the beginning anyway, he did
- 1:11:41have the right playing for him, and then it quickly goes downhill. But
- 1:11:45yeah, you gotta cut some corners then, you know, to make it
- 1:11:48look good. Apparently the first draft of the script, the story was about
- 1:11:55a planeload of news anchors who crash in the mountains and discovered that the plane
- 1:11:59would which they collided was carrying monkeys and martial arts equipment, leading to a
- 1:12:03battle between cannibalistic newsmen and star throwing monkeys. Sur Yes, I was gonna
- 1:12:12say, I wonder why they didn't. I don't know. Adam McKay was
- 1:12:17the one that was maybe I don't. It's hard to say. That sounds
- 1:12:23like sketch, big time, big time. Uh. This was the first
- 1:12:29of the h Adam McKay and Will Ferrell's mediocre American Man trilogy. The second
- 1:12:34was Talladega Knights, the balder Rickie Bobby, and then the third was Anchorman
- 1:12:38two. The legend continues on all parts of McKay worked as the director,
- 1:12:43Farrell as the main actor, and they both worked as writers on the projects,
- 1:12:46which was fun. Amy Poehler apparently was in this but was completely cut
- 1:12:51out. She's one of the other folks that was completely cut out. I
- 1:12:55guess I wonder if she was in the other one. Yeah, I don't
- 1:12:59know. I remember that. I remember my Rudolph on it. I used
- 1:13:03to own it because I think it like came with Yeah. It was like,
- 1:13:09I might you think you're right back here? Uh hada. McKay's daughter,
- 1:13:17Lily Rose McKay is the little girl that makes the cameo insulting Ron while
- 1:13:23he's walking on the street. And I guess that's his wife, sheer A
- 1:13:26Piven as well. That's playing the mother in that scene, which I thought
- 1:13:30was funny. That was the same kid from like the Landlord, right,
- 1:13:35the thing that was on so I think, so man, so funny,
- 1:13:41so funny. Yeah, that bit was hilarious. Champs line of I will
- 1:13:45take your mother, Dorothy Mantooth out for a niceafood dinner and never call her
- 1:13:48again is a paraphrase, apparently from a comic book series Dan Dare Pilot of
- 1:13:55the Future, where Dare's nemesis, the Mecon, may an identical threat against
- 1:14:00Dorothy Dare. And I just thought that was pretty funny. Interesting. I
- 1:14:05had no anyhow. This character, Ron Burgundy was inspired by veteran Detroit TV
- 1:14:13broadcaster Mort Krim. So that's kind of fun. I hope he liked it.
- 1:14:18Oh, he never saw it. He died in ninety seven, never
- 1:14:20mind, still alive. Yeah, that was gone. Ron's dog is named
- 1:14:27after Ted Baxter, a news anchor of the Mary Tyler Moore Show. Yeah,
- 1:14:31that's fun. The zoo scenes were filmed at the old Los Angeles Zoo,
- 1:14:36which closed in sixty five. The remaining buildings are a tourist attraction in
- 1:14:41Griffith Park. I thought that was interesting. And David Keckner credited his working
- 1:14:46with Steve Carell in this film to getting him cast as recurring character Todd Packer
- 1:14:50on the office. Keckner had known Carrel since ninety one during their days at
- 1:14:57Second City Comedy Troupe in Chickicot Cool Chick at Goal. I didn't even think
- 1:15:01about that. But Will Ferrell was hit some time on the office too.
- 1:15:06He did, oh yeah, good call right after Steve Crow left. Oh
- 1:15:10man, that's so funny. That was such a funny bit. Uh.
- 1:15:14That was all the ones that I had, Rob, did you have some
- 1:15:15tribute? I did for actors that were up for other roles. So the
- 1:15:20first draft of the screenplay included suggested actors for various roles. Champ kind.
- 1:15:27They wanted John c Riley, and I did see that John c Riley was
- 1:15:31offered it turned it down because he was filming The Aviator, which makes sense,
- 1:15:36should probably go and be in a scorseacy film. Yeah, probably right,
- 1:15:41But then he was cast. He was a cameo and anchorman too.
- 1:15:45He would have been great. That's Champ I think. I think absolutely sure.
- 1:15:50You could definitely tell that that's what they were going for. Totally get
- 1:15:54the John c Riley Will Ferrell connection. A couple of years exactly. Uh,
- 1:16:00Brick was supposed to be Chris Parnell, Oh, Brian Fantana. They
- 1:16:06wanted Ben Stiller, okay, and he ended up making his cameo. Ed
- 1:16:14Harkin was going to be Ed Harris. They wanted Ed Harris. That would
- 1:16:17have totally worked. I think it would have worked. But Fred Willard,
- 1:16:21he's so much funnier. Yeah, he was so good. But it's kind
- 1:16:25of like how they got Michael Keaton as the Yeah, probably would have been
- 1:16:30something similar to that Garth who Chris Parnell played. They wanted Dan Ackroyd oh
- 1:16:38cool okay, which is interesting. Frank Vichard, who is Frank Okay.
- 1:16:47They wanted Alec Baldwin. They wanted Alec Baldwin and they also suggested William H.
- 1:16:54Macy for another one of those like random news anchors. That would have
- 1:16:59worked for sure. I wasn't really offended by anyone on that list. I
- 1:17:02think it. Yeah, like like sometimes you hear these things and you're like,
- 1:17:06oh, that would have been awful, but still would have been pretty
- 1:17:11funny. Yep, it would have been good. I mean, I feel
- 1:17:14like Steve Carrell's Brick Tamblin is a big upgrade over Chris Parnell, and Chris
- 1:17:18Parnell was so funny. Yes, it worked out. Your mother Maggie Gillenhall
- 1:17:29auditioned for the role of Veronica Corningstone and then they'd end up working together and
- 1:17:33changing in fiction. So that and Ron Livingston auditioned for Brian Fantana Paul,
- 1:17:45that was all I had. Brandon, did you come up with anything?
- 1:17:49No? Yeah, I usually do, but I didn't have time for that
- 1:17:56one. Dude, No, you're good man. That was a lot.
- 1:17:59Anyway, Well, let's go to will there be a sequel Judgment Day?
- 1:18:03There was one? Yes, that continues, there will be a scene?
- 1:18:09Yes, yes. I only watched it on and it was largely unmemorable.
- 1:18:15I remember being so disappointed. Yeah, it just did not whatever they made
- 1:18:21work in that first one, it just didn't translate. It was gonna be
- 1:18:25really hard for it to work because we loved the first one so much,
- 1:18:29you know what I mean, Like, yeah, but yeah, I agree,
- 1:18:31it didn't work. The magic was gone. The magic was gone,
- 1:18:34which is a bummer because I was so excited. Yeah, for sure.
- 1:18:40Well do you guys want to play a game? Yeah? I made a
- 1:18:44game called plot Words. We've only played it one other time and Brandon,
- 1:18:50how this works? So I'm going to give you five different key words or
- 1:18:55phrases that help describe a movie plot. Uh. They'll go from five points
- 1:19:01to one point. So if you guess it right after the first word,
- 1:19:04you'd get five points and so on guessing the movie correct. And you can
- 1:19:14guess once after each word, so you you don't have to like wait for
- 1:19:18all five to guess. There's no negative points. And yeah, you ring
- 1:19:26in with your name, Yep, you're good, I have question yep,
- 1:19:30and uh yeah, that's about it. Oh, all of these things have
- 1:19:35something in common as well. There's a theme. You can ring in at
- 1:19:41any time to guess the theme for a point, and it might have something
- 1:19:45to do with Anchorman Burgundy. It might all right, are you ready?
- 1:19:55Yes, all right. The first word I'm going to give you his birthday
- 1:20:04bukes bukes, liar, liar, good, guess no, and you don't
- 1:20:12have to guess if you sucks, I got nothing cool. The second word
- 1:20:19is rivalry. Oh wait, Brandon Brandon problem child, problem child, not
- 1:20:31problem child. That's awesome. Can I guess? Uh? Step brothers very
- 1:20:40good? Guess correct. I think at one point they do too, but
- 1:20:45I don't I think that wasn't that the thing, or maybe he was retiring
- 1:20:49when he shows him that anyway, Okay, so so far birthday rivalry.
- 1:20:56The third word bedroom five four three bukes two bukes. Well, there's no
- 1:21:10rivalry, forty ye old virgin. Nope, no birthday all right. The
- 1:21:18fourth word is cowboy, birthday, rivalry, bedroom, cowboy, cowboy ye
- 1:21:32bukes, bukes, look back mountain. Nope, the cowboys, they are
- 1:21:41cowboys, they are they are another inappropriate college memory there, Yep, I
- 1:21:50think that. Yep. Let's The last word or phrase is Tom Hanks Brandon
- 1:22:04toy story. Toy story, boom Brandon has once it was hard. It's
- 1:22:11so funny because initially I had some other ones. I was like, Oh,
- 1:22:14they're gonna get this so easy. It's gonna it's gonna happen so quickly.
- 1:22:16Right then when I'm reading, I'm like, I know, I wouldn't.
- 1:22:19I wouldn't get that either. I'm not connecting the birthday part, but
- 1:22:23the rivalry and the bedroom party. He gets it's his birthday, I think,
- 1:22:30exactly, Yeah, I think. So, it's been so long since
- 1:22:32I've seen toy story. What's delight. Yeah, it's a delight. So
- 1:22:39yeah, we got Uh that's that's how it goes. Let's go to the
- 1:22:42second one. The first word is or phrase is New York City, New
- 1:22:48York City. That's a sad thing too, New York City four three two,
- 1:23:00Well, okay. The second word is apocalypse. You Brandon, Independence
- 1:23:14Day, It is not that day, the day after tomorrow. It is
- 1:23:18not that. The third word. So so far we've had New York City
- 1:23:24apocalypse. The third word is dog ended Brandon now twelve Nope, nope,
- 1:23:34not that the one gets bugs bugs a quiet place day one. That is
- 1:23:45not it. The fourth brandit word hold on, you gotta wait till this.
- 1:23:51Okay, okay? Number four, Yeah, I guess you can go.
- 1:23:57Number four. I haven't said the word yet, you haven't. What
- 1:24:00is it? I am legend? It is oh, good call. So
- 1:24:03he gets it at with two points and the word that he was going to
- 1:24:10say, okay, Well, I was waiting for him to say number four,
- 1:24:13and he did. Yeah, I did. I said number four,
- 1:24:15number and four. That works. That works. So I was going to
- 1:24:19say zombies for number four makes sense. So that's why he gets it for
- 1:24:24two points. I love it. I love it. And then the next
- 1:24:27one would have been will Smith. So yeah, Brandon, good job.
- 1:24:30Well we'll see story. I am legend. And what was the other movie?
- 1:24:33Well, let's go to number three. Oh, that was only number
- 1:24:38three. The first word is the nineteen fifties, fifties. That thing you
- 1:24:47do that is not correct. I don't think of fifties, Brandon. Back

- 1:24:58York City again. Oh goodness, Bukes, taut driver, taxi driver.

- 1:25:10to the future. No, no, no, not back to the future.

- 1:25:49fourteenth century. That's the thirteen hundreds. Yep, very good. Look at
- 1:25:58you to get stuff numbers, every good stuff. Boy. I don't know

- 1:27:31Nope, book book, I just want to get some ribs on that
- 1:27:41and go book. The second one is magical Bukes Bukes a never ending story.
- 1:27:51You you figured it out. I think that it helped, definitely helped.
- 1:27:57Knowing the theme, I was distracted instead of ribs instead of barbecue sucks.
- 1:28:01Oh sorry, I had barbecue sauce. How many points? No,
- 1:28:06he said ribs. That's why I'm doing that with my teeth. It's ribs.
- 1:28:14So yeah, you got four points for that? Oh dad? Oh

- 1:29:27redfor directed. Huh, that's cool. I just remember that movie existed when
- 1:29:31Bukes guessed it. Yeah, it was a good guess. Let's go to
- 1:29:38number seven. The first is nineteen forties, another old one. The second
- 1:29:46clue is Childhood Memory. The third one is Glasses. The fourth one a
- 1:30:05bb Gun Brandon Brandon Christmas story Boom. Two points for Brandon. Nicely done,

- 1:30:25The guesses go go down once the theme gets identified too. Yeah, yep,
- 1:30:30we'll see. This one is a little bit of a stretch, but
- 1:30:33I thought it was clever. O. Yeah, we do. Number eight
- 1:30:36The first one is a family, A family uh Meeta Henderson's story, Harry
- 1:30:48and the Henderson that's the one you hate bringing in. He hates it.

- 1:32:09of like his coming of age story. The coolest part was because they showed
- 1:32:15it's like almost it's about him when he was a kid, almost, and
- 1:32:17like the way he would make the special effects for his love. That was
