- 0:02There has been some pushback in some red states, including
- 0:08Indiana. They didn't want to do that.
- 0:11They didn't want to mess up their districts and turn them
- 0:13into ridiculous salamanders. And you know that whole thing.
- 0:16So they resisted that push. And Donald Trump, of course,
- 0:20none too happy about their resistance to that push.
- 0:25So looking at the results last night, Trump had endorsed a
- 0:29number of candidates who had ultimately, you know, opposed
- 0:35the people that opposed the redistricting plan.
- 0:38In other words, if you had people standing in the way of
- 0:40it, Trump was like, all right, you're out.
- 0:42Somebody else pointed at a guy and said, go vote for him.
- 0:46Most of those people won last night.
- 0:51Only one of the 8 senators opposed by the pro redistricting
- 0:56groups, Greg Goode, was a certain winner.
- 1:01The rest were either losing. 5 of them definitely have lost or
- 1:07appeared like that may in fact happen as the the voting as the
- 1:12counting continues. Excuse me.
- 1:14So anyway, those those incumbent senators will now be out.
- 1:17And it just now increases the likelihood that we have even
- 1:23more of what I was talking about.
- 1:25That would, I mean, is there anyone who has ever been more
- 1:28vindicated than yours truly on this issue?
- 1:33As I've been telling you for weeks, actually months really,
- 1:36that this was a stupid fight to pick and that it was ultimately
- 1:39going to harm the Democratic Party if they wanted to do it.
- 1:43It's, you know, at some point sometimes you just have to take
- 1:46the L. You just have to take the L.
- 1:49And what, what Texas was doing to, to initiate this latest
- 1:54round of all this would have been, by your perspective,
- 1:58unfair. Although I would have had plenty
- 1:59to say about what had happened the prior year and the year
- 2:02before that and the year before that and the year before that
- 2:04and the decade before that and the multiple decades before that
- 2:08and the century before that. I'd have a lot to say about
- 2:12who's been doing what unfair things and when and who really
- 2:15started what. So we can play the game if you
- 2:18want to. But if you if you accept that
- 2:21Texas decided to do an irresponsible thing and try to
- 2:25gerrymander to get a political advantage, you knew you were
- 2:29going to lose like 4 seats by doing that.
- 2:32And you don't like losing 4 seats.
- 2:34I don't like losing 4 seats. Nobody likes losing 4 seats.
- 2:36I get that. And so your impulse would be,
- 2:38well, we don't want to lose 4 seats.
- 2:40Let's do something about that. Let's fix that.
- 2:42And so you decide to consider doing what they're doing in
- 2:48other places. And if you do that, you should
- 2:52have asked yourself, but wait a minute, is this going to end up
- 2:58being a good thing in the end for us?
- 3:01Like, can we do we can we do this enough in enough places
- 3:04that it will ultimately benefit us to do this?
- 3:08Because if the answer to that was no and oh, oh, it was no.
- 3:12Oh, it was very much no. But if the answer to that was
- 3:15no, you should just have said, well, that sucks.
- 3:18We'll get him next time. Or found some other way, found
- 3:22some something else to do. I don't know, maybe just go all
- 3:26in on suing Texas and see if we can stop.
- 3:28I don't know. But like, you shouldn't have
- 3:29necessarily done what Gavin Newsom and friends did to
- 3:33really. I mean, I hate to say it.
- 3:36Well, no, I don't because he's a, he's a grifter.
- 3:38So I don't mind slamming Gavin Newsom.
- 3:40But the only reason he really did that was to to increase his
- 3:45own standing within the progressive element of the
- 3:47Democratic Party. It is to make himself the
- 3:49primary Trump fighter in the country.
- 3:51And it doesn't matter if it's even going to work, if it's good
- 3:56for your party or ultimately, if this was wise in any way, it
- 4:01didn't really matter because I was fighting Trump.
- 4:04And that's all that mattered in that particular moment of time.
- 4:07And I think that's what mattered to Miss Spanberger in Virginia.
- 4:10And I think that's what's mattered in a lot of places.
- 4:12And it was suicidal. They may have now set off
- 4:16something that bakes in a protection for the Republican
- 4:21majority in the House that they would have otherwise lost.
- 4:25Because it is very, very rare for a midterm election of any
- 4:30sitting president of any party to go well for them.
- 4:33Usually goes poorly. Sometimes it goes very poorly.
- 4:36Second midterms are usually not as bad as the first midterms,
- 4:39but they're still not great. So losing a loss of 10/15/20
- 4:46seats? Not unrealistic right?
- 4:49But what happens if the Republicans gain district wise,
- 4:5510/15/20 seats? Yeah, food is always.
- 5:01That means that they're going to at least Nix it and get it back
- 5:04to a place where you might keep control or the very least keep
- 5:07it very narrow if you lose, as opposed to a big landslide
- 5:10victory for the Democrats. So, I mean, you, you wanted
- 5:14this. You wanted this.
- 5:16I didn't. I don't.
- 5:18I didn't want to go here. I didn't want any of this.
- 5:20And I still condemn all of you for doing it.
- 5:23But I also know exactly what's happening right now.
- 5:26And this is going to be a losing fight nationwide for the
- 5:28Democratic Party.
