- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the Coop, and
- 0:23let's start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning. OK, we are talking today about
- 0:32how other people control us and we don't even realize it.
- 0:37Now, let's take a little bit of a walk on this one.
- 0:40So let's say you're in a conversation with someone, and
- 0:44that conversation becomes heated.
- 0:47You get angry, there's something going on, you start to feel a
- 0:51certain way. You end up in an argument with
- 0:53that person and they they have pushed your buttons.
- 0:58They have everyone that you know is a trigger on your bus
- 1:02emotionally is driving. They run to the front of the bus
- 1:05and you are irritated, whatever the emotion might be.
- 1:08But let's use irritated, frustrated, angry, whatever.
- 1:11It doesn't matter. They're at the front of the bus
- 1:13driving and then the you 2 separate.
- 1:17You go into separate rooms, office, whatever, wherever the
- 1:20location may be, all of a sudden does it end?
- 1:25Does that mean because your body is away from that person, has
- 1:29the whole thing ended? No, Unfortunately, no.
- 1:31It doesn't work that way for most of us.
- 1:34What ends up happening, and it's so fascinating, is that that
- 1:38that little simple separation really doesn't do much, does it?
- 1:42Because in our head, we start Monday morning quarterbacking
- 1:46it. We start having conversations
- 1:47with ourselves and all the emotions inside of us start
- 1:50having a conversation and we will take the time, like think
- 1:56about this. We take all the time to replay
- 1:59the argument, to play replay the frustration, to replay the
- 2:02situation over and over and over.
- 2:05Then we start saying, OK, I wish I would have said that if I'd
- 2:09only thought of this. And we start getting mad at
- 2:12ourselves because we didn't perform the right way.
- 2:16And we start thinking about, OK, well, I should have seen this
- 2:20coming. And we now we have turned our
- 2:22anger and our irritation from that person to ourselves because
- 2:27we're mad that we didn't do the right thing in the moment.
- 2:32Now, mind you, this is going to continue because that's we're
- 2:35not done. Now it's night time.
- 2:37Wherever has happened, whenever, whatever time this has happened,
- 2:40now you got to go to bed and now you're taking it with you.
- 2:43And now you're still thinking about it.
- 2:44So now you're going into a place that's supposed to be sacred for
- 2:48a time for relaxation and like repairing your body, because
- 2:52sleep is about relaxation, repairing, going into a deep
- 2:56status of being able to relax for once.
- 3:00In this godforsaken day that's been going on, you want to go
- 3:04relax. And now you can't even relax
- 3:06because you're replaying these situations in your head over and
- 3:10over and over and over and wishing you had said things,
- 3:13beating yourselves up for going in that direction.
- 3:16We just beat ourselves up for it and we don't get any sleep now.
- 3:21We wake up and we're frustrated because we couldn't sleep well
- 3:24because all of this happened because it wasn't right.
- 3:26And, and it goes on and on and on until we decide maybe we have
- 3:30to deal with this or we have to let it go or we have to change
- 3:34our thinking. I mean, yes, Can we let go of it
- 3:36sooner? Absolutely.
- 3:37Have we? No, because we haven't allowed
- 3:41our ourselves to process it in the proper way and recognize
- 3:44that whatever happened, whatever that person did, whatever they
- 3:48said, however they showed up, they pulled our bus over, they
- 3:54ran in and they threw up all down the aisle of our bus, all
- 3:59their vomit and grossness. And now they jumped off the bus
- 4:03and they seem to be going through their life happy go
- 4:05lucky, not caring. And you're over there with a
- 4:08stinky vomit bus driving it everywhere you go.
- 4:12That's what happens. And we suffer further.
- 4:15We suffer over and over and over when these arguments and these
- 4:18types of things happen. We replay it over and over and
- 4:23over in our minds and unless and until we recognize that's what
- 4:27we're doing, we will suffer from it again and again.
- 4:31So it's like the argument, the problem just keeps going and
- 4:35going and going and going. And unfortunately there's no end
- 4:40insight, right? Like it just seems to keep
- 4:42going. And how frustrating is that,
- 4:45that we are just, Oh my gosh, we're just at that place where
- 4:49we're like, OK, I don't, I don't even understand why it's
- 4:52happening at this point. I'm so frustrated.
- 4:54And days can go by, weeks sometimes can go by.
- 4:58And and we're still doing that to ourselves because we're still
- 5:02thinking about it now. Does it change over that path of
- 5:05time? Yes, organically.
- 5:07It will soften, it will change, it will blur.
- 5:10And eventually you get to the place where you literally, I
- 5:12can't even anymore, I'm exhausted.
- 5:13But you give up based on exhaustion, not on healing.
- 5:17So today is all about recognizing if you're in that
- 5:21process right now and you're hearing this, then you have to
- 5:24say, I can be in control. I can clean up this vomit in my
- 5:27bus. And I don't have to do this, but
- 5:29I have to be conscious of it. I have to be aware of it, and I
- 5:32have to choose a different driver.
- 5:34And you have to know that you, every time you let that thought
- 5:38come back without having a clear resolution in your mind, you are
- 5:43letting that whole situation dictate you again.
- 5:46And that's not fun. So it's a matter of pulling back
- 5:50from it and saying, Nope, I choose something better.
- 5:52I choose a different driver, I choose a different belief and I
- 5:55choose a different outcome. And I will not think about this
- 5:57anymore. And I you force yourself to
- 6:00think about it in a different way.
- 6:02All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 6:04will see you tomorrow. Bye.
