- speaker-0: Deen boils and gools it's your old pal John Kaseer the voice of the Crypt Keeper and tonight's Tethertail I call if you've seen one episode you should see them all speaker-1: Heheheheh! speaker-0: And you should kiddies, because tonight my good fiends Jamie and Nelson will be talking everything, tales from the crypt, from episode to episode, from season to season, from scream to scream. speaker-1: Heheheheh! speaker-0: Hey, welcome back to Average Home Theater. Hi, Nelson. He's Jamie. I do like ⁓ what's going on there. speaker-1: I'm Jamie. Thanks. A shout out to Jacob, ⁓ over at the studio. The. Yeah. And just, he was like, do you trust me? And I'm like, ⁓ sure. I'm like, holy hell, you made this actually look good. speaker-0: a place where he lives. Yeah, man, you don't think I just came up with this by myself. I ⁓ I know. speaker-1: I don't know. You're, you're pretty swabbing. You gotta keep Jamie happy. Not me, Jamie, but his wife. Yeah. Gets confusion sometimes, but we're okay. speaker-0: my wife doing. So, what are we doing? speaker-1: We are going to do one of your favorite things, which is who did it better and what a, what a way to end our trip through the crypt. You could overlay that with John. ⁓ speaker-0: I have to say you're pretty bad at speaker-1: I am that. I am. ⁓ But luckily we have the intro that you probably just watched and it has John actually do it. Yep. That was really cool. That was his idea. speaker-0: So it is a perfect way to end the series. And this, I know I explained while we were doing the series, how I grew up watching the episodes at my sister's house and whatnot. So whenever the movie came out, Demon Knight, which is the first, came out in 90, what, five? So I was 15 years old. I have no recollection of who took me, but I did see it at the theater. speaker-1: Yes. So I'm first one. Okay. All right. speaker-0: Because I was very excited that a Tales from the Crypt movie was going to the theater. Yeah. Well, I didn't know who Billy Zane was at the time. I can remember thinking, no, I do remember thinking, ⁓ that's the guy from Tombstone. Because remember he has that little small part in Tombstone where he's the actor. ⁓ So I remember that. But yeah, I was really introduced to Billy Zane with this movie. speaker-1: about the bill Zane. speaker-0: Especially when you realize how good he was in it. Yeah. Yeah. Because he brought it, man. speaker-1: He really did. He left no crumbs as they say. It is a saying. Cause they say he, everybody go, he ate, which means he like, speaker-0: ⁓ is that a saying? ⁓ yeah, that's the new kid slang. speaker-1: Well, it's not new. It's probably last year and because we're old. What? Six, seven. Yeah. Yeah. So, but anyway, yes. So you go to the movie theater and it's up there and you're speaker-0: It's with six, seven. It's in, it's in that realm. Yep. mean, it starts off, you see the Cryptkeeper directing that movie. you know, you think it's the real movie going on and it's just this guy lumbering or whatever. And it ends up being, what's the name from, ⁓ from night court. speaker-1: ⁓ speaker-0: What's his name? No, it's not Bull. It's I got it open right here. Let's see if we can find it. Do they have it? He's going to be way at the bottom. speaker-1: Not Harry, the, bull, the guy bull. ⁓ What did he play? speaker-0: He's one of them. He's one of the lawyers, isn't he? Yeah, him. was John Lerquette. He's the actor. speaker-1: John Larkett. who played a Klingon on Star Trek The Next Generation. speaker-0: Everybody's in Star Trek. speaker-1: Everybody, yet you won't watch it. speaker-0: Everybody is in Star Trek. ⁓ But yes, it's Lerket and the Crypt Keeper starts yelling that in. Right after you see it's John Lerket, he says, cut, cut, cut, cut, cut, cut. And it's the Crypt Keeper. And then you see him walking. And I just remember being like, wow, the Crypt Keeper is walking. Yes. It's an actor. ⁓ It's a little person that did the walking. speaker-1: I'm sorry, I gotta... see his legs? speaker-0: and they put the head or whatever on him and post something to that effect. I saw it not that long ago. I read it was in trivia how they did it. That's how they did it. But anyway, I remember being all fascinated about that. But the best part about that scene was you see some boobies. So 15 years old, you're seeing boobies within the first three minutes of a movie. This is going to be a great movie. speaker-1: Did it. ⁓ Thank you, Cinemax. speaker-0: So anyway, he starts telling him, he goes, that was terrible. You know, Robert Deadford, you're not even a gory Cooper. speaker-1: Yeah. I love those puns. speaker-0: So yeah, this movie just starts off great. And then of course he goes into his normal, ⁓ what you call it, I call this one Demon Knight. And the opening of this movie I love because it has the song, what is it? Hey man, nice shot is the song that's going through and it's Billy Zane chasing William Sattler's character whose name is Breaker. So I don't know, all of that stuff is just, it's so great. You can't say enough about Ernest Dickerson, the director. He, I don't know. It's, it's so well done. It, it feels almost too good to be Tales from the Crypt. You know, cause Tales from the Crypt has always been kind of a little cheesy and you know, ⁓ this movie is like, it's more of a mainstream horror movie. which ⁓ speaker-1: And we'll get into it later, which is one of the reasons why Portello with blood is better than this movie. So yeah, why they did this movie, they did it better. And we'll, we'll have that argument. mean, that conversation a little bit later on. speaker-0: Oh, I see. So anyway, so like we do in these who did it better is we're not going to break down the movie scene for scene. We're just going to talk about what we thought was the best and maybe worst parts of each movie. And then we'll kind of, we'll do the head to head at the end. ⁓ another one. ⁓ Cordelia was a. speaker-1: Star Trek actor. Yeah, she was in I think a season one episode. speaker-0: Yeah, because she's the prostitute cordial here. speaker-1: John, John shook right there. The sheriff. speaker-0: He was in one. speaker-1: Guess what he Uckling on. speaker-0: I'm gonna have to edit all of this out. Because you're slowing down the pacing, speaker-1: I'm sorry. I will stop. I'll stop. No more Star Trek references until we get to Port Ella. speaker-0: Until we get to bordella then there's more. So the premise of this movie is it's a siege movie. Okay. Breaker who is William Sadler ends up yeah B-R-A-Y he ends up at this it's an old church but it's a hotel. He needs a place to bed down. You don't really know what's going on you just know that Billy Zang was chasing him and then they have the big explosion or whatever and he gets away. speaker-1: the why. Mm-hmm. speaker-0: Um, and long story short, as you watch the movie, everything that comes out, him being a collector and trying to get the artifact from breaker. I am a sucker for siege movies. I am a sucker for tales from the crypt. So therefore, uh, it's just natural. I'm going to love this movie. Booze run in the first five minutes, but speaker-1: Yeah. So therefore, within the first five movies. speaker-0: Let's, let's kind of go back a little bit. So, so breaker is at the hotel and he tried to, right before he got to the hotel, he tried to steal a car. didn't work out. He gets run off. He ends up at the hotel and then a few hours later, the police show up at the hotel because the hotel owner who's played by CCH. ⁓ The CCH pound, is that her name? She called obviously because something was suspicious about this guy. And they take him into custody. Billy Zane's with him. He's like, I really need what he took from me. know, it's, it's a piece of antiquity and the shape of a key and all of these things. And he goes to, to reach for the water and it gets close to break her's face. Cause the police had him on the table handcuffed. And he's like, get him away from me. Don't let him touch me. So you're just like, what the hell is going on? You know, like, why doesn't he want to talk? Right. So as they're going to leave. The police tell Billy Zane, well, I'm going to keep the key. You're coming with us because you were driving a stolen car too, Some cars and car chase. And then that's whenever all hell breaks loose. Billy Zane goes, ah, well, why wait? And just punches the sheriff right in the face. His face kind of explodes. It gets caught on his hand and. speaker-1: me. speaker-0: rips his head off and throws it at the people or the deputy, right? The deputy's fumbling the head and all of these great things are going on. And as you're watching it, you're like, this is a masterpiece. How is it going to be topped by another Tales from the Crypt movie? speaker-1: And then you get your answer a few years later. But I would say so far this movie is head and shoulders above. speaker-0: Head and shoulders. You know, he's got to bring the dad jokes. So they, right whenever Billy Zane is going to take the piece of antiquity, which is the key, the key shaped item, breaker puts it on his face. It burns him and he runs outside. And then he's like, okay, well, you want to do this the hard way. We're going to do it the hard way. So you have this great scene where he, speaker-1: the key shaped item. speaker-0: basically cuts his hand open and the green blood comes out and he starts throwing it into the dirt. And then these demons come up, these monsters, have ponytails and piercings for some reason, which is awesome. Right. It doesn't matter because it's tales from the crypt and it's demons coming from dirt and blood. speaker-1: They're from Frisk. out. This movie takes place in the PM. speaker-0: He has to make it through the night. tells him that. Right. So what happens after that? ⁓ then it's your typical siege movie. They, keeps trying to get in and break. Yeah. Breaker is going around sealing all of the entrances with the blood. And they're like, you're like, what, what the hell is this stuff? Cause none of this has been explained yet. and he tells them all we have to do is make it through the night. And of course you would think something so simple. speaker-1: does that. speaker-0: It's kind of like, don't feed the gremlins after midnight. Don't get them wet. Even Sheldon says like, how hard is that? Right? So how hard is it to just stay put and just wait until the morning and everything will be fine. speaker-1: Yeah. Don't break this. Everything will be fine. speaker-0: But then you have in the group, have Thomas Hayden Church, who's great. ⁓ he plays a knucklehead. He creates problems, ⁓ tries to make a deal later on. ⁓ and the collector as Billy Zane's character is called, he tries to seduce everyone. Like just let me in almost like a vampire, right? Just, just let me in and I'll, I'll take away all your worries and blah, blah. So you have all of these different. speaker-1: bleh bleh bleh. speaker-0: scenes where he tries to seduce the different people into letting him in. One of them is Dick Miller. ⁓ speaker-1: the incomparable Dick Miller. Speaking of gremlins. speaker-0: If Dick Miller's in a movie, it's great. It's like off the top. It's just, it's going to raise the movie probably three or four points just from him being in it. Right. Gets shocked. ⁓ but in this one, lots of boobies around him, you know, cause he's an, he's an alcoholic. So the collector is catering to that. So all of these things are happening and it's just very, it's, it's really good writing and it's almost too good to be tales from the crypt. And that's one of the knocks on it is. speaker-1: shopping mall. speaker-0: People say it's almost too good and it doesn't have a, ⁓ thing where, you know, the, the bad people, always kind of comes around to where this is a strictly, you have a protagonist and antagonist and they're trying to get through and some jerks. ⁓ I don't know. I just love it. William Sadler is great in this movie. ⁓ Billy Zane is great in this movie. speaker-1: script field. some jerks. speaker-0: Everybody really is. Jada Pinkett Smith, whom I'm not a huge fan of, but she does well, but at the beginning she doesn't. Where she's, I don't know, it's almost like she's trying too hard, but as the movie progresses, she gets much, much better. Especially at the end, she's really good and she's very convincing in her part. ⁓ How she outsmarts the collector and speaker-1: In this movie speaker-0: It's really good. She does a really good job towards the end. But at the beginning her acting is pretty bad. But, ⁓ CCH Pounder. Yeah. The girl that played Cordelia that you said was in Brenda Baca. Yeah. ⁓ Roger Robertson. The guy who played Roger or voiced Roger Rabbit. plays the, ⁓ the disgruntled postal worker who wanted to shoot up the joint, know, the typical disgruntled postal worker thing. think he had some grenades and ⁓ yeah, it's just, it's very good. It's all good. And it's not very good. It's awesome. think this is one. It's one of my favorite horror movies of all time, actually. Like I think it's, it's near perfect that I don't, there's not a lot wrong with it. Right. So that's your knock on it is it doesn't feel enough on it. Tales from the Crypt. speaker-1: some horror film. No. one knock on is it is, and this is really crazy to say it is too good of a horror movie because it doesn't have for me, it doesn't have those touchy feely in jokes and groans that you usually do when you're watching one. Um, and it, since we're talking about who did the movie. speaker-0: Right. speaker-1: The Tales from the Crypt movie better, not which is a better horror film or which is a more enjoyable horror film of the two Bordello of Blood from 1996. I feel did it better. speaker-0: Okay, so now that you've heard a crazy person's explanation. speaker-1: Yes, and he did a great job now. I'm gonna tell you speaker-0: So, but yes, this movie is great. You have good demons, good acting. ⁓ Good special. Very, very good, actually. speaker-1: effects. Pretty limited budget. mean. speaker-0: I don't know is the budget. I don't know. I don't know. There's no way it's a lot. speaker-1: Yeah, because they didn't really have huge, I mean, it's a siege movie. pretty much most of it takes place right there. speaker-0: budget, $13 million budget. But it only made 21 million. I mean, it made money. But the fact that only made 21 million is kind of crazy to me. speaker-1: You know, I kind of think that a lot of people, um, didn't go and see it because it was a, so you had to be a certain type of fan to want to go and see it. Um, had a great poster. Uh, I mean, I thought it was really cool. He's got like the, the, director's hat on and he's looking to the book and everything. So, and it has a great ending. You know, I really liked the, and not to spoil it, but the way that they're spoiling it. speaker-0: from the crit movie Okay, so, Breaker dies, she gets, she outsmarts the demon, whatever. We're assuming that everybody has seen these movies that's watching this. I really like the fact that there's another collector right there. As soon as, as soon as she gets away, there's another collector going, you know, trying to track it down and he goes to get on the bus, but she was smart enough to put the blood there and speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. And then... speaker-0: He goes, nah, I'll take the next one. speaker-1: Very good. So, I will say that I think they learned a lot from not demon night because when they did bordello of blood, they went back hard to their roots. Okay. ⁓ this has a great cast. First of all, it's got Dennis Miller who is just, he is. So Dennis Miller in the movie. speaker-0: But almost maybe too much. speaker-1: I will, I will agree with you. Okay. I love his standup, especially his old standing. Um, but he was almost too nonchalant about the things that are going on. And that's one of the things that I hate in the movie when it's all in your face and you know, it's going and you're still like, Oh, I must have had a, you know, a bit of gravy and it caused me indigestion instead. So you play off of him with Erica Eliana. Laniac who is just so sweet and pure and everything in this film. And she works for the comparable Chris Sarandon, who is just Joel Olsteen with electric. speaker-0: His portrayal is hilarious. His little accent, Mr. Goopman, and you'll be sentenced to hell, know, that type of stuff. I don't know, yeah, he was great. speaker-1: D.A.R.I.O.S. Mm-hmm. ⁓ It's really great. Now you've also got, so it does feel kind of like a, like there's a bunch of these stories come together. So we had a collector in the first one. in this movie, you have another collector played by Phil Fonda Rocca who plays Vincent. He's you've seen him in some other little things or not. He is also a person of diminutive size, but speaker-0: out there. You like that? He's a little person. speaker-1: And, so they're out finding Lilith's heart and therefore they find Lilith. Now who was Lilith? Some people will say that Lilith was ⁓ Adam, Adam and Eve's, was Adam's first wife. Okay. that's one of those unwritten things that's, think when they say, ⁓ others say that she is a demon, ⁓ like. speaker-0: I know that. speaker-1: that was cast out just like Lucifer were, but basically she is just one of, if not the most powerful vampire in existence. And the only way to kill her is to quarter her heart and to have them separate. that's what has happened at the beginning of this film. But when they find, finally find her, ⁓ poor old Vincent just cuts a guy's throat. speaker-0: Separated, speaker-1: And then boom, she comes up. And when I say she comes up, I am talking about ENG ever harder. ⁓ speaker-0: Which this was her first acting credit. didn't realize that Sylvester Stallone got her the job because he was dating her at the time. speaker-1: And it's just, she hams it up to the point where if you didn't, if this was, wasn't a Tales from the Crypt movie, you'd be like, ⁓ God, she's chewing this thing. She played the part really well. And so you've got, you come back to, know, the real whatever, you come back to this, this town where all of this stuff is going on. speaker-0: No, she did great. She played the part really well. Before you get to that. there's the little intro scene, right? That and William Sadler goes, and then she rips his arms off and she eats him. She's like this director, but he's a mummy. Right, right, right. And that's we talked about it in our thing. It's they basically remade the scene, same scene that was in one of the series, one of the seasons. I think it's like four or five. Yeah, they did it. They're playing the chop in the handoff. Yeah. speaker-1: ⁓ yeah, yeah, I forgot about that. Anyways, yeah. in your head, she quit while you're ahead, think. Yeah. Yeah. Um, so you've got them and there is a funeral home kind of set off and there are people who are going missing in this town. so you've got Erica's, her name is Kathleen. You've got Erica's brother who was played by Corey Felbin, Corey's baby. speaker-0: Self. speaker-1: He and his friend, ⁓ get approached in a bar and they're like, Hey, you want to go see some ladies and really great scene. go in, they get into a coffin. speaker-0: They tell him to ask for the Cunningham Wake. And I remember as a kid, I didn't know what a wake was. Even though I had been to several, didn't know that it was called a wake. speaker-1: a cutting hand like. Did you, did you ever catch that cunning ham is starts the same way as an, as another cunning? This is a somewhat adult. speaker-0: I did not really, I didn't catch that. speaker-1: Yeah, that's what I caught is, know, ⁓ but anyway, so I have to get into a coffin and it's like the coffin is going to get, ⁓ incinerated cremated and instead it goes down and it, they, there's some movies, there's some movies, ⁓ big boobies, little booties, brown boobies, white boobies, red boobies. speaker-0: or any, any kind of third third boobies as well as nipple. speaker-1: Third movies. That's Still, ⁓ it was a mammary gland. okay. Thanks for the memories. And it's like, ⁓ wow. It's awesome. All these beautiful women. then turns out they're all them. And somehow Corey ends up surviving, but he's been turned. speaker-0: All vampires, speaker-1: So then he is going back and she is looking for her brother. So she goes to Dennis Miller, who is a private investigator. And he of course is just a sleaze. He's trying to, to bet her right out of it. speaker-0: Well, he keeps, he keeps telling her, boy, you look really familiar. sure I don't know you? And it doesn't make a whole lot of sense until you find out or you read that there's a scene that was cut where Erica Eleniak's character was in, what was her name? Catherine. She had done porn and she was saved, which is why she was working in the church. speaker-1: Catherine? Right. speaker-0: and he had a poster from her movie that she did. speaker-1: When, he worked his. speaker-0: His office was in the theater. Yeah. And it probably was an X-rated theater that showed her movie at one point. Right. Because she sees the poster, she goes, ⁓ what a sleaze. so when you watch the movie now, if you don't know that, it's like, ⁓ what was the big deal? speaker-1: Yeah, I always played it off as, ⁓ yeah, I was a pig and pulled it down, but later on I read that too. And I'm like, ⁓ that is, which makes you wonder why did they cut some of that stuff out or why do they not cut the other things out? You know, speaker-0: I just thought he was a pig. They just thought they just they I guess whenever they're in the editing process. They're like, okay what we do need to trim downtime We want to keep it under 90 minutes or 120 whatever and I guess they go and when they start looking at scenes, it's like what is most important to Moving the plot and they probably say well, we really don't need this just her seeing that is enough and her being a good girl It worked you like, okay. Well, I guess she just ⁓ thinks he's a pervert, right? speaker-1: Moving up. speaker-0: But it's really a reaction from a scene where it's her movie and that's why he keeps recognizing her. No, I just read about it, but it's not, I've never seen speaker-1: Have you seen it? Is it like a deleted? ⁓ so anyway, he decides he's going to take the case and he starts to investigate where the brother went. went to the, all of this stuff. But when he ends up down there and they start to try to eat him, he is able to get away. And so then he knows again, this is one of those things it's their vampires. speaker-0: Yeah, well, he took pictures of some and they don't show up and all of this stuff and he goes, now, what if we're talking about vampires? And she just looks at him like, what? no, it doesn't make sense to you. speaker-1: But you know, one of the things I always, cause we were watching Buffy right now and it's like, when you stab a vampire and they turn to dust, why do their clothes turn to dust? Especially if they're wearing new clothes. And then these, when you take a picture of them and they don't show up, why don't you see their clothes? Yeah. So anyway, that's one, that's just one of my, I had to go off that side. It is, it is. So then you find out that she doesn't believe him. speaker-0: They're closing, Well, it is a movie about vampires. speaker-1: And then when she finally does believe him and goes to the Christian and the minister, you find out that he's actually the one behind them going out and finding her. speaker-0: He is in possession of the key, therefore he's controlling Lilith. Right. And he's using her to get sinners. speaker-1: Yeah. ⁓ so the movie progresses, she gets more, ⁓ powerful. So finally there is at the end of the movie, which I loved at the end of the movie, there is a laser crucifix that, ⁓ ends up they finally use it after a really intense battle to slice her in half. speaker-0: Yeah, yeah, that's a scene. speaker-1: But then she seals back together because her heart's not in four. Right. It's only in two. ⁓ and then. speaker-0: Erica goes with Flecka. She has, what is it? speaker-1: I thought it was a guitar, but I know it's not, I keep thinking I see. Was it the, ⁓ speaker-0: I can't remember. I don't remember what it is, but it has like three or four, maybe so, and she just sticks it through and then the pieces of her heart come out. But the whole time this is all going on, Dennis Miller's making jokes. speaker-1: Was it a candelabra? Yeah. time, all the time about, you know, uh, Angie Everhart and all of this stuff. But one of the reasons, one of the things that makes this better than demon night is it has the classic ending. So they're in the car, the, you know, everything's been solved. Um, he and, uh, so Dennis Miller and, and, and Erica are in the car and. You're like, ⁓ everything's good. Everything's fine. And then you find out. speaker-0: He's like, what's that? What's what kind of perfume? She goes, it's perfume sunblock. speaker-1: And you go down and she's got two. Yep. speaker-0: She got a between the thighs. speaker-1: it between the thighs. speaker-0: And it ends with her grabbing him and struggling more. speaker-1: And then the camera pulls back and it's there like a station wagon or something. think, to me that is the kind of. Tales from the crypt ending. It's, it's, it's, it's a tales from the crypt. You know, it makes you go, ⁓ okay. wasn't, I wasn't looking for that, you know? And it was kind of hammy and, ⁓ yeah. speaker-0: Yeah, it's not a good ending. Right. So getting to some of the problems I have. ⁓ One is the fact that it's too hammy. ⁓ When I was younger, I loved Dennis Miller in this part. And when I watched it a couple of weeks ago, I still did enjoy his performance to a point. But as I'm older now and I'm like, you know, he could have dialed it back a little bit. And it was a little bit of an issue. Like he kept getting in arguments with the actors and directors because he just wanted to do He thought he was on an improv show. And he just kind of They said, he said things like, you expect me to learn these lines, you know? So knowing all of that now, I don't enjoy the movie as much because it's like, they're trying to make a movie and he's kind of being a jerk. So anyway, that's one of my issues. ⁓ Another issue is I feel it's kind of a ripoff of From Dusk Till Dawn that came out two years prior to this. speaker-1: Yeah, would agree that there are a lot of elements. speaker-0: Um, I really feel it's, it's almost a direct re and I felt it when I was younger, but I didn't care as a kid. like, it's another movie. It's like from dust till dawn. But now that I'm older, I'm kind of like, they couldn't have come up with something a little different. So, you know, that that's a little, and they even went with the whole. Holy water and squirt in, in, water guns, which is done in from dust till dawn. So I feel like it's a little bit of a look off of that. speaker-1: If I'm not mistaken, wasn't it done in Lost Boys? speaker-0: Well, Lost Boys, had the water with the Connors, it had holy water and what? Garlic in it or something like that. speaker-1: I mean, everybody's not disagreeing with you, but yeah. speaker-0: But like a bordello, I mean, it's the same. It's almost the same exact thing. I mean, it's a one's a strip club full of vampires and this one is a bordello full of vampires. So it's just, I don't know. It's almost the same thing. Probably should have done a who did it better of those two. speaker-1: created this Yes. Well, then that would be no doubt of who did that better. From Dusk Till Dawn has to this day, one of the absolute best endings. remember seeing it in the theater. speaker-0: but no still don't. I saw it, cousin Glenn took us. speaker-1: Holy crap! That is... speaker-0: Is that on a temple or in a temple? So, anyway, getting back to this. Yeah, that's kind of my issue. Now, I thought that everybody, all the performances were great. You had the crazy dude, the best Gush Dorn piece. That guy, he really hammed it up. Corey Feldman's ⁓ friends were pretty good. had the dumb one and then you had the one who thought he was cool, but he really wasn't. I guess all of them weren't cool. I think that was kind of the thing. They wanted to be cool, but they really weren't. But Corey Feldman was really good in this. ⁓ speaker-1: So did you like human Corey Feldman or vampire Corey Feldman? speaker-0: Human, human better. He, he handed up maybe a little too much as a vampire. ⁓ The chase scene when he's chasing ⁓ Dennis Miller and, and Erica Eleniak. They, they're going to see him or to he's, called them. Right. And then, he's alive. So they go looking for him, but then he just ends up chasing him. And she's like, we're going to go this way and swing on the chains. And Dennis Miller goes, that is the craziest effing thing I have ever heard. And then he turns around and here comes Corey Feldman. That's the second craziest, best thing I've ever heard. I enjoy that joke. speaker-1: Yeah. that's another reason why I say, ⁓ they did it better is because it did have the laughs in it. You know, and, and again, which is the better horror movie? Even I hands down is better. Which is the better tales from the crypt movie? I got to go with border. speaker-0: ⁓ Demon Knight. I mean, if looking at it through that lens, I will have to agree that if it's, if you're looking at it, if you're looking at it through the lens of who did it better as a Tales from the Crypt movie, then yes, guess Bordello of Blood really did. speaker-1: on the show ever. And I will agree that if you're looking through the lens of which is the better horror movie, even then it's demonite. Demonite is a straight out horror film that happened to have the, the crypt keeper at the beginning and the end. speaker-0: Demonite is just great. I wonder if it's one of those scenarios where it was a script laying around and I bet you, and they said, Hey, let's just slap it. Tales from the crypt. We'll put the crypt keeper in there and we'll just roll with it. speaker-1: And, know, looking at that movie, I don't think, I think it would have been horrible if it had had a lot more Tales from the Crypt thumb prints on it. the mood and the pacing and everything of it, the jokes would have just thrown it off. You know, it just, it just, but you look at the ending of Bordello blood with the, that. And then you look at the demon night ending and the only thing is, she put things like, I'll take the next one. You're kind of like, again, through that lens, that's why I think it's a better, that's, think they did it better. speaker-0: Okay. Well, I guess I'll concede to that. Okay. I think this, I think this may be the first who did it better where they're both right. speaker-1: I'm not asking- I think, I think so. It, again, it just on that. speaker-0: Because it's such a unique scenario ⁓ of these two movies and you know most of these who did it betters it's similar plot movies and these are not we just wanted to do because we needed to wrap up our Tales from the Crypt and it's like hey which movie is better but you know there's no doubt Demonites the better movie or Delo of Blood is the better Tales from the Crypt. speaker-1: movie speaker-0: Now they were supposed to do a third one and they're technically I think there is another Tales from the Crypt movie but it's kind of bad. speaker-1: Isn't it like a... Yeah, and it's kind of a... I don't even know if it has the name. speaker-0: I know, I remember reading something about it. speaker-1: It like more like a special than a movie. don't think I had the actual... speaker-0: No, I know what I'm thinking of. I'm thinking of Creepshow 3. Creepshow 3 is like a 2B movie and it's absolutely dreadful. I watched about 10 minutes of it. speaker-1: ⁓ There is, just like, ⁓ no, maybe I'm picking up the Muppets. That one was for you, Michael. speaker-0: But there was supposed to be a third and because Bordello flopped at the theater, it lost money. They just canned it. speaker-1: And I could, I could see why they did that. Honestly, the thing is, is you have to walk a fine line with tales from the crypt between being a horror film and being a slapstick comedy. Yeah. And there are great examples of that in throughout the series. One of the perfect ones, I think we both agree was an excellent one episode was with ⁓ or speaker-0: And I mean the whole series is that whole speaker-1: Emmett Walsh and his wife, the taxidermist. He Emmett Walsh. you. mean, that had just the whole perfect balance. Couldn't turn that into a whole film, but I do wonder if it would have been good for them to have done, ⁓ an anthology movie like creep show or tales from the dark side or one of those. speaker-0: E. Emmett Wall. speaker-1: But I think too many people would have gone, Oh, look, they're doing a tells from the dark side kind of person. But it would be fun to see something that intermixed itself between three stories in the same film. speaker-0: Yeah, it does make you wonder why they did that. Being that it was a series, an anthology series, because Tales from the Dark Side was a series, they made a movie, and it's in the same vein. You know, it's an anthology movie. It kind of makes you wonder why they went the... But I'm glad they did because we got Demon Knight out. speaker-1: with Sammy Harry. Exactly. And I'll tell you as great as I was found on Demon Knight, I've probably watched it less than six times. Oh, I know you're exactly. I have watched Bordello many more times because it's one of those movies that I can just put on and just, just, just on, know, and boobies. Boobies. speaker-0: Watch the dozens. There was something else I wanted to say, but I can't remember what it is. lost my turn. Boobies and it just. speaker-1: You already said how amazing my beard is. you know, that was number one. speaker-0: Number uno. Oh yeah, I got the hitchhiker season one because you mentioned it a few times. I've said the hitcher and you thought I was talking about the hitchhiker. So I was like, well, let me look into this hitchhiker. And the copy I have is right there. It's sealed. It's never been opened. It's brand new. With shipping, I paid $8. speaker-1: Yeah. Yeah. So I will tell you now, because I've been going back and rewatching all of them. ⁓ there are some really good episodes and then there's some other ones that are just like, okay. So this is not a, ⁓ this is not one of these go and watch. I bought them vampire. Bye. Bye. He's going to look for me a cosmic Brownie. I think that's what he's I know. ⁓ So is this season one or is it speaker-0: ran out of Cosmetic. It just says a collection of tin tails. speaker-1: Yeah, I think it's from a couple of different seasons, but I will tell you if you go to I think it's the library speaker-0: multiple volumes of it. This is just one of them. speaker-1: I think if you go to the library of Congress, they have a video archive section. It has all of the episodes that you can watch for free. Okay. Without commercials or anything like that. speaker-0: says Christie Alley, Gary Busey, Peter Coyote. love Peter Coyote. He was not an enough. Willem Dafoe, Helen Hunt, Margot Kidder, Joey Pants, and James Reymar. speaker-1: Yeah. So I think Joey Pan, no, Reemar is in an episode where he and his brother go to like maybe rob an ice cream warehouse type thing. It's also got, there's also an episode that has Bill Paxton in it. That's also really good. And then there's another one that has Robert Vaughn, who is one of the two man from uncle, you know, the man from uncle TV show. speaker-0: another. speaker-1: 60s really? Okay. They made a movie with, Cavill. Yeah. Yeah. They, it was booted. But anyway, that's the, that's speaker-0: Henry Cavill. Reymar is in the Tales from the Dark Side movie. He's in the one with Ray Don Chong. speaker-1: Yeah, exactly. Where he's an artist or something. But, ⁓ there's one, this, that one with Robert is the one that I remember the most. ⁓ I want to say it was playing on HBO when I was probably, when we had HBO or whatnot. And, ⁓ I watched it again and it was still just as creepy as it was when I watched it as a kid. But I really think you're going to enjoy that. Yeah. speaker-0: I'm gonna open it up this weekend and give it a shot. speaker-1: Well, good. Well, man, ⁓ again, thank you for opening up. It's so cool in here now. I mean, it was cool before, but now with all the dark pain and the beautiful just visions and what. speaker-0: It definitely makes everything ⁓ feel more theater-like, being dark. ⁓ I really enjoy it. speaker-1: Ours are sticky, is just wonderful. ⁓ you know, and I had popcorn last time. So speaking of next time in March, you'll be seeing this before it comes out. ⁓ we'll have another Friday the 13th and this time. speaker-0: Jason X baby. Jason X. an episode came out today with Nick and I. We make the announcement on there too. So if you didn't catch that episode, you'll hear it here. But yeah, we're going to do Jason X on March th- excuse me, March 13th. speaker-1: the 13th starting at seven 30. So standard time. Yep. Then can check out our Instagrams is Instagram. ⁓ we're going to have links to it and we're going to really just say, on, listen to us be idiots and let us know. speaker-0: 730 Grab yourself a copy of the movie. We'll all start at the same time and enjoy one of the greatest, ⁓ Jason movies ever. speaker-1: Yeah. We're to have a bunch of the plastic microphone studio guys at it and they'll all be zooming in from different places and we would love to see you in the chat. speaker-0: All right, well, that it. speaker-1: Nanu, Nanu! speaker-0: Like, subscribe, tell your friends. We'll see you on the next one. speaker-1: Laters.
