Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to episode thirteen of Revellio for February twentieth,
- 0:14Speaker 1: twenty twenty five. I'm Amy, I'm Nicole.
- 0:32Speaker 2: And I'm Tom.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Yay thirteen. Lucky you were releasing on like a Friday.
- 0:40Speaker 1: The thirteenth went a little off, Yeah, just a little bit.
- 0:51Speaker 3: I don't even know when the next one is.
- 0:55Speaker 4: So in this episode we'll be discussing ne a long button.
- 0:59Speaker 4: So it includes everything from the character, his backstory, different
- 1:03Speaker 4: theories that have come across to you know in the years,
- 1:08Speaker 4: among other things.
- 1:09Speaker 2: But first.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Listening to w W in the Wizarding Wireless Network. Now
- 1:20Speaker 3: for the latest headlines. So this episode, we actually do
- 1:23Speaker 3: have quite a bit of news. So we have gotten
- 1:26Speaker 3: a lot of merch news since our last episode. So
- 1:30Speaker 3: we got our first look at the new interactive wands
- 1:33Speaker 3: that are coming to Cosme Acajor that gets magique. That
- 1:40Speaker 3: was probably horrible pronunciation. I'm sorry to anyone who speaks
- 1:43Speaker 3: French that is listening. But this is the wand store
- 1:49Speaker 3: that is coming to the new Worsting World of Harry
- 1:51Speaker 3: Potter in the Ministry of Magic expansion when Epic Universe
- 1:55Speaker 3: opens in just a few short months. So if you
- 1:57Speaker 3: haven't seen them yet. I definitely recommend heading over to
- 2:00Speaker 3: the official Harry Potter or Universal Orlando Instagram pages, where
- 2:04Speaker 3: you can see a nice little graphic that I'm a
- 2:07Speaker 3: little bitter about because it's in the shape of my
- 2:09Speaker 3: WAND logo, which, if you've been listening to us since
- 2:13Speaker 3: the beginning, I've shared a couple different times that you know,
- 2:16Speaker 3: when they decided to rebrand from the Wizarding World logo
- 2:19Speaker 3: to just Harry Potter, I was quite upset that we
- 2:22Speaker 3: lost that wonderful WAND graphic and here they were slapping
- 2:25Speaker 3: it right in our faces in how they presented these
- 2:28Speaker 3: new wands. But they're all very beautiful.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Having said that, yes, I already knew they were going
- 2:37Speaker 1: to get me with these wands because it's like exclusive
- 2:40Speaker 1: to this park, and like the WAND box is a
- 2:43Speaker 1: different shape and all this stuff. And now I'm looking
- 2:46Speaker 1: at them and I'm like, yes, there's like three in
- 2:49Speaker 1: that picture that.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I really love.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Go down one.
- 2:55Speaker 4: It's literally screaming nineteen twenties Wizarding World, like you can
- 2:59Speaker 4: just it doesn't even have to say it's from Fantastic Beasts.
- 3:02Speaker 4: You just know it's from that time. So I love
- 3:05Speaker 4: the consistency.
- 3:08Speaker 3: Yeah, it definitely fits the whole French aesthetic as well.
- 3:11Speaker 3: They're all very elegant and like even the ones that
- 3:13Speaker 3: are more like neutral colored are still really elegant as well.
- 3:21Speaker 3: So yeah, I have about three that I'm torn about
- 3:23Speaker 3: as well of these ones, so we'll see. Hopefully when
- 3:27Speaker 3: I see them in person, I'll be able to kind
- 3:29Speaker 3: of like narrow it down. But yeah, they're all very.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Pretty and the color scheme too, Like, I love the
- 3:37Speaker 1: colors of these, and I think it's really cool to
- 3:40Speaker 1: have colors on them, because the other ones from Olivanders
- 3:43Speaker 1: do not have color mm hmm, like.
- 3:46Speaker 3: That would yeah, black, there is some black, but yeah,
- 3:52Speaker 3: they're all very dark and rust they think. We talked
- 3:55Speaker 3: about that too, like Olivanders and like the the British
- 3:58Speaker 3: kind of widgeting World being very rustic in nature, and
- 4:03Speaker 3: like the more French Wizarding World would be way more
- 4:07Speaker 3: like colorful and whimsical. And it just kind of makes
- 4:10Speaker 3: sense mm hmm. Yeah, I'm excited and just getting even
- 4:18Speaker 3: any like tastes of this. It shows that we're really
- 4:21Speaker 3: close to the park being opened, yes, which coming up
- 4:24Speaker 3: in a little bit will have some more news from
- 4:26Speaker 3: the Park that we've gotten. So also other merch news
- 4:31Speaker 3: is that Bloomsbery announced they're launching a new book series
- 4:35Speaker 3: called Potter Pockets Little Guides. So these books are really cute.
- 4:39Speaker 3: They're on like a little series of companion books that
- 4:43Speaker 3: will touch on it seems like certain characters, like each
- 4:47Speaker 3: book will be dedicated to a character. The first three
- 4:51Speaker 3: books are going to be released in twenty twenty five,
- 4:53Speaker 3: and they'll be focused on Harry, Ron and Hermione, like
- 4:56Speaker 3: each getting their own book. And if you go to
- 5:00Speaker 3: Harry Potter dot com the official site and go to
- 5:02Speaker 3: news the story that kind of announces this, there are
- 5:05Speaker 3: some samples of like the illustrations and the content that
- 5:08Speaker 3: will be in these books, and it's really cute, looks
- 5:11Speaker 3: really good, and I think it's definitely, you know, something
- 5:14Speaker 3: that people of all ages can enjoy. But it definitely
- 5:17Speaker 3: I think will be really nice for younger readers as
- 5:20Speaker 3: like an introduction, and they're definitely set up kind of
- 5:23Speaker 3: geared towards like a younger audience. But yeah, definitely check
- 5:29Speaker 3: those out if you haven't already. And then also Warner
- 5:33Speaker 3: Brothers Discovery has announced the return of their butter Beer season,
- 5:37Speaker 3: which will run between March first and May thirty first.
- 5:40Speaker 3: So this year, we're actually getting a lot of new
- 5:43Speaker 3: butter beer flavored goodies that will be coming to grocery
- 5:47Speaker 3: stores near you. If you're I believe this might just
- 5:50Speaker 3: be if you're a US based, I'm not sure, but
- 5:53Speaker 3: there's gonna be butter beer flavored goldfish, skinny pop popcorn,
- 5:57Speaker 3: Hershey Kisses, the Keebler Fudge stripe cookies, among other things.
- 6:03Speaker 3: The nail polish brand, Orally, is also coming out with
- 6:06Speaker 3: a butterbeer inspired nail color, and there's some other things too,
- 6:10Speaker 3: So butterber is definitely getting her flowers in these couple
- 6:14Speaker 3: of months. I for one, am pretty excited for some
- 6:20Speaker 3: of the treats, especially like I don't know if the goldfish,
- 6:23Speaker 3: I'm assuming they'll be kind of like the Graham crackery
- 6:26Speaker 3: ones like those sound really good. Butterbeer flavored popcorn also
- 6:30Speaker 3: sounds pretty good.
- 6:31Speaker 1: I was just thinking about like caramel corn, but butterscotch
- 6:34Speaker 1: butter beer.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Yeah, but like a butterscotch flavor.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Yup.
- 6:37Speaker 3: And actually, the nail polish color is pretty cool too,
- 6:39Speaker 3: especially if you're like me and you like neutral colors.
- 6:41Speaker 3: So I haven't seen anything, like sometimes these show up
- 6:45Speaker 3: in stores like a little bit early. I haven't seen
- 6:47Speaker 3: anything yet, but I'm definitely like keeping my eyes out
- 6:50Speaker 3: when I go on my grocery runs. Maybe we'll do
- 6:54Speaker 3: a little review on the podcast as they start to
- 6:57Speaker 3: come out. Yes, and then also we learned that for
- 7:04Speaker 3: this year's Record Store Day, which if you're a vinyl
- 7:06Speaker 3: correct collector, Record Store Day happens every year in April,
- 7:11Speaker 3: and we get a bunch of either first release or
- 7:14Speaker 3: exclusive releases on this day. So it's on April twelfth,
- 7:19Speaker 3: I believe that's a Saturday. This year, we're actually getting
- 7:22Speaker 3: some Harry Potter stuff this year on Record Store Day,
- 7:25Speaker 3: so we're getting a new Sorcerer's Stone, Chamber of Secrets,
- 7:28Speaker 3: and Prisoner of Azkaban vinyl pressing. And these are Record
- 7:33Speaker 3: Store Day first, not exclusives, so don't have to like
- 7:37Speaker 3: run to your local record store and like fight the
- 7:39Speaker 3: masses to try to get them because they're only available
- 7:41Speaker 3: on Record Store Day. They're just releasing first on Record
- 7:44Speaker 3: Store Day, and they all three pressings. They're on like
- 7:48Speaker 3: a clear vinyl. They look really cool. I'll definitely be
- 7:52Speaker 3: picking up SORCER's Stone and Chamber of Secrets. I already
- 7:55Speaker 3: have Prisoner of Azkaban on like a picture desk pressing,
- 7:58Speaker 3: so obvious and with that one. But I'm excited because
- 8:03Speaker 3: I ended up not dishing out the like three hundred
- 8:06Speaker 3: dollars for the Slythermin ones that we that we talked
- 8:09Speaker 3: about the top got and his Gryffindor colors. So I'm
- 8:12Speaker 3: definitely in need of some pressings of some of the
- 8:15Speaker 3: films that I don't have.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Yeah. Plus I love a clear vinyl too, love clear vinyl.
- 8:21Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, so I'll be playing my clear pressings on
- 8:25Speaker 3: top of my Taylor Swift vinyl Matt Two Worlds Colliding,
- 8:33Speaker 3: and you'll be able to see her nice and clear
- 8:34Speaker 3: since the vinyl is clear. So yes, if you want those,
- 8:38Speaker 3: definitely run to your local record store on April twelfth
- 8:44Speaker 3: and then going back to Wizarding World News. So we
- 8:48Speaker 3: just got, like just yesterday, our first look at some
- 8:51Speaker 3: of the food options that are going to be coming
- 8:54Speaker 3: to the Ministry of Magic Land. And this is also
- 9:00Speaker 3: like really exciting. I think, I know we've talked and
- 9:04Speaker 3: we've speculated about what some of the food offerings might be,
- 9:08Speaker 3: and so it's nice to kind of get some confirmation.
- 9:11Speaker 3: So there's two different food places within the Ministry of
- 9:14Speaker 3: Magic Land. Here we go again with Nicole trying to
- 9:18Speaker 3: pronounce fresh. So there's Cafe Lire de la Serine and
- 9:23Speaker 3: La Goblet Noir butchered that. So those are the main
- 9:29Speaker 3: dining locations. So we have found that we are going
- 9:32Speaker 3: to be getting a butter beer crep, not my butterbeer
- 9:36Speaker 3: macaroons that I have been campaigning for, but still a
- 9:39Speaker 3: sweet treat a butter beer, right, and we might get
- 9:42Speaker 3: more right like I think we'll probably have like a
- 9:44Speaker 3: nice baker. I think, yeah, we'll probably have like a
- 9:46Speaker 3: nice sweet shop in this section two like we have
- 9:49Speaker 3: with in the other two parks. So the crep is
- 9:55Speaker 3: going to be filled with cookie butter, So sign me
- 9:58Speaker 3: up because I love a good cookie butter and oh
- 10:05Speaker 3: I lost it. Could see I have the list pulled
- 10:08Speaker 3: up here, give me one second. Yeah, so filled with
- 10:10Speaker 3: cookie butter, Bavarian cream also something I love, strawberries and
- 10:15Speaker 3: a butter beer drizzle. So it's it looks like it's not.
- 10:19Speaker 3: It's going to have just a touch of butter beer
- 10:21Speaker 3: flavor on it, and it also is going to have
- 10:24Speaker 3: a butterbeer, shortbread cookie on top. I did see somewhere
- 10:29Speaker 3: source memory is failing me. Some people got to try
- 10:32Speaker 3: some of the offerings. I don't know if it was
- 10:35Speaker 3: like a media event or what it was, but I
- 10:37Speaker 3: feel like I remember hearing somewhere that someone said this
- 10:40Speaker 3: crap is amazing.
- 10:41Speaker 1: So it looks good.
- 10:43Speaker 2: I believe that.
- 10:44Speaker 3: Sure, it looks good. Yes, we're also getting a baguette
- 10:49Speaker 3: Day Tin Day. So this is sliced black pepper, turkey,
- 10:53Speaker 3: creamy bree crisp, apples, and arugula on a warm, crusty
- 10:58Speaker 3: baguette with mustard, butter and apple butter. Again, sign me up.
- 11:06Speaker 3: And then my favorite, which when we were talking about
- 11:09Speaker 3: this in our group chat I mentioned is not French
- 11:12Speaker 3: inspired whatsoever. So I'm not quite sure how this ended
- 11:15Speaker 3: up on the menu, but I'll take it and I'll
- 11:17Speaker 3: be ordering it is the Alchemist's platter, which I love
- 11:21Speaker 3: because I love the Plowman's platter in the other parks,
- 11:27Speaker 3: so this is like, I can do it in both
- 11:29Speaker 3: parks now. So this is a feast of smoke, sausages, cheese, pirogis,
- 11:33Speaker 3: pickled eggs, marinated beets, caramelized onions, and a warm pretzel
- 11:38Speaker 3: with German mustard and cheese fond get right up my alley.
- 11:43Speaker 3: Like everything about that is up my alley. So I
- 11:45Speaker 3: don't even care that it's more Polish and German than
- 11:47Speaker 3: it is French. I will be getting the Alchemist platter
- 11:51Speaker 3: do the thing.
- 11:52Speaker 1: It's because it's like inspired by Jacob Kowalski, you know,
- 11:57Speaker 1: maybe more like maybe you're inspired.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Maybe yeah, I'd be really curious like to like interview
- 12:08Speaker 3: the person who like made up these menus and like
- 12:10Speaker 3: just to get their perspective, because I've also seen some
- 12:13Speaker 3: chatter online where people have been commenting, like on Instagram
- 12:15Speaker 3: and stuff, where people are also like, well that sounds
- 12:17Speaker 3: kind of Polish and not French, but again I will
- 12:22Speaker 3: take it. And I'm wondering if they wanted to do
- 12:25Speaker 3: like similar to like like the Plowman's, which is really
- 12:29Speaker 3: common kind of meal to have in the UK, if
- 12:34Speaker 3: they wanted to offer a similar like platter type option,
- 12:38Speaker 3: and this is just kind of what they came up.
- 12:40Speaker 3: I can't imagine. I can't think of, like, having been
- 12:42Speaker 3: to France, I can't think of a French type of
- 12:45Speaker 3: platter that you would do other than like cheeses and stuff.
- 12:48Speaker 3: So maybe that was just the inspiration here, but either way.
- 12:52Speaker 2: It sounds really good, French inspired.
- 12:55Speaker 3: I'm excited to try it. And then there's also to
- 13:00Speaker 3: be for the vegetarian option. There's gonna be a lentile
- 13:03Speaker 3: stew which is cloy whoops, let me start that over again.
- 13:08Speaker 3: A cozy plant based stew with lentils, vegan bacon, root veggies,
- 13:13Speaker 3: and artisan Oh my god, let me start that over again. Okay,
- 13:18Speaker 3: There is going to be a vegetarian option, which is
- 13:21Speaker 3: a lentil stew. It's a cozy plant based stew with lentils,
- 13:25Speaker 3: vegan bacon, root veggies, and artisan bread. So that also
- 13:30Speaker 3: sounds good. Probably not my choice, but sounds good. And
- 13:35Speaker 3: then lastly, we got the Keische Lorraine, which I personally
- 13:38Speaker 3: love a good keishe So this is a rich egg
- 13:41Speaker 3: custard with crispy bacon, gray or cheese, and caramelized onions
- 13:45Speaker 3: and a flaky pie crust topped with mornaise sauce and
- 13:48Speaker 3: served with berries drizzled and lavender honey. Yeah, also, sign
- 13:53Speaker 3: me up for them. So yeah, I feel like they're
- 13:56Speaker 3: really stuffic off the food game, especially when you look
- 14:01Speaker 3: at these pictures, like this stuff looks good.
- 14:05Speaker 4: Yeah, definitely more tempting than what you find at the
- 14:09Speaker 4: Wizarding World Hogsmead, because I'm never too tempted by the
- 14:14Speaker 4: food there. There's like a lot of like you know,
- 14:17Speaker 4: steek and turkey and this, and like I'm not such
- 14:20Speaker 4: a big I'm not such a big band, but this
- 14:23Speaker 4: is like, yeah, this is like a little bit more.
- 14:25Speaker 4: You know, you got your bagatts, you got your creps,
- 14:27Speaker 4: you got you know, like different options, very like French inspired,
- 14:32Speaker 4: kind of like European vibe, and yeah, the plates look
- 14:38Speaker 4: really like full like you can definitely you know, share
- 14:43Speaker 4: some of these plates. So yeah, I mean I'm excited.
- 14:47Speaker 3: I guess we'll see when it actually happens. Though, you know,
- 14:49Speaker 3: it's like it's like how everything you know, there's a
- 14:51Speaker 3: there's an an art to photographing food and then it's
- 14:55Speaker 3: like very different than when you actually get it. But yeah,
- 15:00Speaker 3: having said that, I think even the stuff that's in
- 15:03Speaker 3: like the three broomsticks or the Leaky cauldron is not
- 15:06Speaker 3: necessarily plated bad or doesn't necessarily look a lot different
- 15:10Speaker 3: than I think a picture of it would. So we'll see,
- 15:15Speaker 3: but definitely exciting and it'll be interesting to see too
- 15:20Speaker 3: because there we've only learned about these like five different options,
- 15:24Speaker 3: but there's two different food places, and I think between
- 15:28Speaker 3: Leaky Cauldron and Three Broomsticks we have more than five options.
- 15:33Speaker 3: We definitely do. There really isn't any overlap really between them.
- 15:38Speaker 3: So I don't know if we'll if we'll see more
- 15:41Speaker 3: or if there's just going to be overlap, or if
- 15:42Speaker 3: it's like one of these restaurants will really only have
- 15:47Speaker 3: like three options and the other one will really only
- 15:49Speaker 3: have two. That could be a possibility as well.
- 15:52Speaker 4: M Yeah, I would like to try Jacob Space tries
- 15:56Speaker 4: with animal forms creature formed.
- 15:59Speaker 1: Yeah. Also like drink options, if you think about like
- 16:03Speaker 1: Leaky Cauldron and Three Broomsticks, they've got all those different
- 16:06Speaker 1: drink options as well.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Oh yeah, and they're different between the two of them.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Like so it's and that's one thing I love is that,
- 16:13Speaker 3: like you know, I have my favorite things that I
- 16:15Speaker 3: get at Leaky Cauldron, and I have my favorite things
- 16:17Speaker 3: I go to Three Broomsticks, and like whenever I go,
- 16:19Speaker 3: I'm happy to eat at both because I get something
- 16:22Speaker 3: completely different at both. So yeah, I'll be interesting to
- 16:26Speaker 3: see even outside the Wizarding World. We also got some
- 16:31Speaker 3: pictures of some of the food coming to the other lands,
- 16:34Speaker 3: and there's some really cool stuff, especially for a Nintendo
- 16:37Speaker 3: World and everything. So if you're just interested in the
- 16:39Speaker 3: theme park in general, I definitely if you haven't seen
- 16:42Speaker 3: them yet or I mean, if you're listening to this podcast,
- 16:44Speaker 3: you probably follow this stuff. But if you don't, I
- 16:47Speaker 3: definitely recommend looking for looking at it because some exciting
- 16:50Speaker 3: stuff for sure, and just different stuff. I also saw
- 16:56Speaker 3: a post of some of the food that's going to
- 16:58Speaker 3: be offered at the Helios hotel, and it's very I
- 17:02Speaker 3: mean it's not your standard run of the mill theme
- 17:06Speaker 3: park food. It's very adventurous. It's very different.
- 17:10Speaker 1: So so this isn't going to be like my usual
- 17:14Speaker 1: crappy hotel cheeseburger that I somehow get really excited for
- 17:18Speaker 1: and then I sit in bed and watch HGTV. So
- 17:21Speaker 1: it's not like mediocre cheeseburger night. It's going to be.
- 17:25Speaker 3: I'm sure that like that will still be available because
- 17:28Speaker 3: you know, you've got a cater to like the masses,
- 17:31Speaker 3: and you've got a cater to the children. Yeah, you
- 17:33Speaker 3: got a cater to amy, but but yeah, but I
- 17:36Speaker 3: think there's these all there's also other you know options,
- 17:39Speaker 3: and I don't know if what I saw was like
- 17:41Speaker 3: what's going to be in like their food court, or
- 17:42Speaker 3: if there's like a restaurant in that hotel. I'm really
- 17:46Speaker 3: not too too sure, but yeah, I think I saw
- 17:50Speaker 3: like a ramen dish. I don't remember what else, but
- 17:53Speaker 3: definitely stuff that you don't typically see or it's not
- 17:57Speaker 3: typical stuff that you would find in like the command
- 18:00Speaker 3: A food court. So yeah, a few more months till
- 18:06Speaker 3: it opens and then we'll we'll see. But I definitely
- 18:10Speaker 3: like all these little sneak peaks and stuff that we're
- 18:12Speaker 3: getting kind of in the months leading up. We also
- 18:19Speaker 3: have I just saw the other day when I was
- 18:23Speaker 3: scrolling on Instagram that Hogwart's Legacy Too is officially in development,
- 18:28Speaker 3: and apparently there's also an expansion coming to the first game,
- 18:35Speaker 3: so be interesting. I still need to play the first game,
- 18:39Speaker 3: so we'll get there. It's also if you don't already
- 18:44Speaker 3: own it, it's actually pretty heavily discounted right now as
- 18:48Speaker 3: part of the year anniversary of it coming out, So
- 18:52Speaker 3: like I bought the PlayStation four Deluxe Edition, like I
- 18:56Speaker 3: had pre ordered it, but I actually think with the sale,
- 18:59Speaker 3: I'm going to also pick up a copy of it
- 19:01Speaker 3: on the Switch just to have it in a more
- 19:04Speaker 3: portable form.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Two.
- 19:06Speaker 3: But yeah, so definitely check that out. I think the
- 19:09Speaker 3: Deluxe Edition on the Switch is like twenty dollars right
- 19:12Speaker 3: now when I checked.
- 19:13Speaker 5: So.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Pretty cool. Then we also have some like studio tour news.
- 19:20Speaker 3: So Warner Brothers Studio Tour in London is going to
- 19:23Speaker 3: be partnering with Guide Dogs UK to launch Tactile Tours
- 19:29Speaker 3: and this is going to be an accessible tour, so
- 19:32Speaker 3: visitors that come to the studio tour that have visual
- 19:34Speaker 3: impairments can do this Tactile tour and part of that
- 19:38Speaker 3: tour they will be able to get a hands on
- 19:40Speaker 3: experience with the props and the costumes, which.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Is really cool.
- 19:47Speaker 3: And then Warner Brothers is also planning to open a
- 19:51Speaker 3: Harry Potter Studio Tour in Shanghai, so it will be
- 19:55Speaker 3: the third of the studio tours. We currently have one
- 19:57Speaker 3: in London and currently have one in Tokyo. So this
- 20:00Speaker 3: is attributed to the resurgence of the franchise in China
- 20:04Speaker 3: and with the re release of the films in October,
- 20:06Speaker 3: which played for eight consecutive weeks in three thousand, four
- 20:10Speaker 3: hundred theaters in two hundred and ninety five cities. According
- 20:14Speaker 3: to Bloomberg, WB plans to open its largest Making of
- 20:17Speaker 3: Harry Potter Studio tour in Shanghai in twenty twenty seven,
- 20:21Speaker 3: seeking to capitalize on the local popularity of the movies
- 20:24Speaker 3: and China's push to boost consumer spending. So it's exciting.
- 20:29Speaker 3: I definitely am curious about it being the largest, like
- 20:32Speaker 3: I feel like London should be the largest, but right, yeah,
- 20:38Speaker 3: very curious to see what they plan to expand.
- 20:41Speaker 5: And.
- 20:43Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a little confusing, like the concept.
- 20:45Speaker 2: At first.
- 20:46Speaker 4: I remember when they announced the Tokyo one. I was like,
- 20:48Speaker 4: why Tokyo. It's not even remotely close to where the
- 20:51Speaker 4: films were were made, and what are we getting. And
- 20:56Speaker 4: when I started seeing these recreations of the Great Hall
- 20:58Speaker 4: Antigon Alley, and I was like, what is this, Like
- 21:01Speaker 4: it's not even a it's not even the actual studio
- 21:05Speaker 4: where the films were made. So I thought the idea
- 21:08Speaker 4: was a literal, you know, kind of ridiculous at first,
- 21:10Speaker 4: But then when it opened and you see that there's
- 21:13Speaker 4: different sets, like you get the Grand staircase, and you
- 21:15Speaker 4: get the library section. Things that are kind of in
- 21:19Speaker 4: the defense against the Dark arts class, like there are
- 21:21Speaker 4: things that are exclusive to that park. Even though there
- 21:24Speaker 4: are I think they're just recreations, they're not the actual sets,
- 21:28Speaker 4: but there it's it's like a great photo op.
- 21:32Speaker 2: For fans.
- 21:32Speaker 4: And definitely if I go to Tokyo, I will one
- 21:35Speaker 4: hundred percent visit. So I'm very curious to see what
- 21:38Speaker 4: they're going to do in China and how they're going
- 21:42Speaker 4: to make it. The biggest one probably is going to
- 21:43Speaker 4: have like you know, a lot of technology incorporated as
- 21:47Speaker 4: Tokyo one, and yeah, just it's nice. Nice to see
- 21:51Speaker 4: it keep you know, it keeps expanding and you know,
- 21:55Speaker 4: generation after generation, so that's nice.
- 22:00Speaker 3: I almost wonder if they should have just like instead
- 22:03Speaker 3: of keep calling it the studio tour, like if they
- 22:06Speaker 3: should have just come up with a different thing from
- 22:08Speaker 3: what it is. It's it's almost like aminent exhibition. Yeah,
- 22:12Speaker 3: like they hear a Potter exhibition, which you know, you're
- 22:15Speaker 3: not necessarily seeing the real sets and the real things,
- 22:18Speaker 3: you're just kind of seeing this exhibit of the props.
- 22:21Speaker 3: And that's kind of what they're doing. They're just kind
- 22:23Speaker 3: of recreating the studio, so it is different than the exhibition,
- 22:28Speaker 3: but yeah, I think it needed a difference.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean title the Model of Hogwarts. You can
- 22:33Speaker 4: tell it's you know, it's it's just a replica you
- 22:36Speaker 4: can tell from photos just you know, it's not as detailed.
- 22:39Speaker 4: There's a lot of texture missing, like, but it's a
- 22:42Speaker 4: it's a nice you know, if you have you happen
- 22:45Speaker 4: to live in Asia, if you happen to live in
- 22:47Speaker 4: Tokyo and Japan, like obviously it's more convenient to you
- 22:50Speaker 4: to visit the studio tour in Japan. So I mean,
- 22:55Speaker 4: it's not that it's kind of like broadening, it's you know,
- 23:00Speaker 4: and yeah, like you said, I think it'd be probably
- 23:03Speaker 4: a small rebranding of the title would make more sense
- 23:08Speaker 4: and not call it the Making of Harry Potter, probably,
- 23:10Speaker 4: like you said, something closer to the exhibition or in
- 23:13Speaker 4: you know, but yeah, I'm curious to see what they
- 23:17Speaker 4: come up with.
- 23:20Speaker 1: That's all for the news, all right, So jumping into
- 23:25Speaker 1: our main discussion, we wanted to do a character deep
- 23:31Speaker 1: dive and choose a character that maybe we don't really
- 23:35Speaker 1: talk about a lot, and we settled on Nevill long Bottom.
- 23:41Speaker 1: There's so much to talk about, but I feel like
- 23:43Speaker 1: he sometimes takes a back burner, so this should be interesting,
- 23:51Speaker 1: all right, So a little bit of basic info on
- 23:53Speaker 1: our boy, Neville. He was born July thirtieth, nineteen eighty.
- 23:58Speaker 1: He's in Griffindor House. He's a pure blood. He was
- 24:03Speaker 1: raised by his grandmother, and his parents were in the
- 24:07Speaker 1: Order of the Phoenix, and he himself was a member
- 24:10Speaker 1: of Dumbledore's army. And some of these things will definitely
- 24:16Speaker 1: come into play in our discussion. But first let's take
- 24:21Speaker 1: a look at his name and some of the etymology
- 24:25Speaker 1: behind it. So Neville, his first name is of French origin,
- 24:30Speaker 1: meaning new town. So you've got the French word. I'm
- 24:35Speaker 1: gonna say this wrong wave. No, that's Spanish, that's Spanish.
- 24:42Speaker 3: Episode trying to pronounce French.
- 24:45Speaker 2: I think I think.
- 24:53Speaker 3: I definitely pronounced it nave too. But I took a
- 24:56Speaker 3: lot of herself.
- 24:57Speaker 1: That was great, Yeah what Tom said? Oh god, Yeah,
- 25:08Speaker 1: that's the French word for new and then Bill the
- 25:13Speaker 1: French word for town. So new town. The name is
- 25:19Speaker 1: associated with intelligence, leadership, and compassion and was first recorded
- 25:26Speaker 1: in the eleventh century. It really became prominent as a
- 25:30Speaker 1: male name during the Middle Ages due to the Neville family,
- 25:33Speaker 1: who held political power in northern England. So it's a
- 25:39Speaker 1: very old name, which I suppose makes sense because he's
- 25:44Speaker 1: from a very old wizarding family. And then we have
- 25:51Speaker 1: his surname Longbottom, which is a topographical name, meaning it
- 25:56Speaker 1: refers to a location. So in this case we've got
- 26:01Speaker 1: the Old English word lang for long and botum spelled botm,
- 26:11Speaker 1: which means valley bottom, so it basically is like a
- 26:19Speaker 1: long valley. So it either came from someone who lived
- 26:26Speaker 1: in a valley or refers to a place name such
- 26:30Speaker 1: as long Bottom in West Yorkshire, which is also where
- 26:34Speaker 1: this name is first recorded as being used in Yorkshire,
- 26:39Speaker 1: where some long Bottoms lived and they held estates there,
- 26:44Speaker 1: so there's that connection as well. The family name actually
- 26:50Speaker 1: also has a motto, and it is in Latin labor
- 26:55Speaker 1: omnia vincent, which means hard work conquers all.
- 27:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Interesting, Do we think that fits Neville, that these descriptions
- 27:09Speaker 3: of his name fit him?
- 27:11Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 27:12Speaker 4: I think so, hard work conquers all, perseverance, leadership, yeah.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Yeah, he really steps up as a leader in his
- 27:28Speaker 1: seventh year.
- 27:30Speaker 3: We see that, So yeah, I definitely. The compassion kind
- 27:35Speaker 3: of stood out to me for him.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Yeah. The motto is interesting. It's a very like Hufflepuff motto,
- 27:45Speaker 1: which I know people are always like, oh, Nevill should
- 27:47Speaker 1: have been in Hufflepuff. Yeah, kind of speaks to that
- 27:53Speaker 1: side of him, I guess. Yeah, m I do think
- 28:02Speaker 1: it's interesting. Both of these names are pretty old, longstanding names,
- 28:12Speaker 1: and we do know Neville as a pure blood. The
- 28:16Speaker 1: family is a pretty old wizarding family, so it kind
- 28:20Speaker 1: of makes sense that their name would be one of
- 28:23Speaker 1: these very very old English names. So yeah, they could
- 28:29Speaker 1: be connected to these people who were a state holders
- 28:34Speaker 1: in Yorkshire. Who knows. So obviously a really important part
- 28:44Speaker 1: of Neville's character is the prophecy, which we find out
- 28:50Speaker 1: could have applied to either him or to Harry. And
- 28:56Speaker 1: just to refresh our memories, we'll read through the prophecy here.
- 29:01Speaker 1: So this is Trelotty's prophecy.
- 29:04Speaker 2: Are you going to read it in Trelawny's voice?
- 29:06Speaker 1: Oh lord, I will spare you which voice, the creepy
- 29:14Speaker 1: like trance voice.
- 29:16Speaker 2: Or yeah, the possessed one.
- 29:22Speaker 3: She's doing the prophecy of the night that you know,
- 29:26Speaker 3: Sirius and Peter come.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Back let me go get all the reverb and she'll
- 29:31Speaker 1: be here.
- 29:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Yeah, So the prophecy goes. The one with the power
- 29:44Speaker 1: to vanquish the dark Lord approaches, born to those who
- 29:47Speaker 1: have thrice deified him, born as the seventh Month dies,
- 29:51Speaker 1: and the dark Lord will mark him as his equal.
- 29:54Speaker 1: But he will have power. The dark Lord knows not,
- 29:57Speaker 1: and either must die at the hand of the other,
- 29:59Speaker 1: for Night can live while the other survives. The one
- 30:02Speaker 1: with the power to vanquish the dark Lord will be
- 30:05Speaker 1: born as the seventh Month dies.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Hm.
- 30:10Speaker 1: So why do we think Valdemort decided to go for
- 30:17Speaker 1: the Potters and not the long Bottoms.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Because it was always meant to be Harry. I think, like,
- 30:29Speaker 3: I don't know, I think that, like, I mean, I
- 30:33Speaker 3: get I guess he I guess he kind of maybe
- 30:37Speaker 3: had a choice, or you know, it was very kind
- 30:40Speaker 3: of open ended of like which of these babies it
- 30:44Speaker 3: could have been. But I think that it was always
- 30:48Speaker 3: gonna be Harry and was always meant to be Harry,
- 30:50Speaker 3: and that was just destiny and fate that it kind
- 30:55Speaker 3: of happened that way. Well, what a story would we
- 31:01Speaker 3: have gotten if it with Neville made a list.
- 31:04Speaker 4: And he was like, okay, muggle born mother, you know,
- 31:08Speaker 4: old wizarding family.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Okay, pure bloods.
- 31:11Speaker 3: He's like, I can't, I can't touch the pure blood.
- 31:13Speaker 3: Yeah that half blood.
- 31:15Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll go with the half blood. Yeah.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Actually, you know what, I could see him totally doing
- 31:20Speaker 1: that though pure bloods.
- 31:22Speaker 2: We don't want to thin.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Out that line. Yeah yeah. I mean also, Petty Grew
- 31:32Speaker 1: and Snape were aligned with Voldemort at this point, right,
- 31:38Speaker 1: So I wonder if he just felt like he had
- 31:42Speaker 1: more of an inn and more of a chance to
- 31:45Speaker 1: get at them. I don't know if the Long Bottoms
- 31:49Speaker 1: were also under a lot of protections as well and
- 31:52Speaker 1: had secret keepers, but just the convenience of him having access.
- 32:01Speaker 4: I mean, he knew they were both enemies because they
- 32:03Speaker 4: were in the you know, in the Order of the Phoenix. Ultimately, yeah, yeah,
- 32:16Speaker 4: I would love to know how they thrice defied him too,
- 32:21Speaker 4: Like what happened?
- 32:22Speaker 1: What were these showdowns? Like?
- 32:27Speaker 3: Well, and I wonder, like did that maybe play a
- 32:31Speaker 3: role too, Like did like Harry and Lily like defy
- 32:36Speaker 3: him three times, but like the Long Bottoms only defied
- 32:39Speaker 3: him twice or something like that. So he's like, oh,
- 32:41Speaker 3: it must be the Potters that I have to go for.
- 32:44Speaker 1: But yeah, well I'm pretty sure they both thrice defied
- 32:47Speaker 1: him because Dumbledore said the order yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:54Speaker 3: Hmmm, well maybe the Potters defied.
- 32:57Speaker 5: Him more in a more I just think of being
- 33:03Speaker 5: just like yeah, it was like, you know, I just
- 33:05Speaker 5: feel like he lives for the drama and like he'd
- 33:08Speaker 5: be like, well, but you did this, so I'm.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Coming for you. But yeah, I think that's an unanswered question,
- 33:14Speaker 3: as we don't unless I'm just not remembering, I don't
- 33:18Speaker 3: think we know.
- 33:23Speaker 4: Snape does tell Dumbledore that the Dark Lord thinks it's
- 33:27Speaker 4: his child, so it's like he never even questioned it.
- 33:30Speaker 4: It seems like he had this vexation on the Potters
- 33:35Speaker 4: ever since he heard of that prophecy.
- 33:37Speaker 3: So that's why I said, I think it was always that.
- 33:39Speaker 3: I don't think there was ever a moment where I mean,
- 33:46Speaker 3: I guess maybe he could have considered, oh geez, I
- 33:48Speaker 3: have two babies that were just born as a seventh
- 33:52Speaker 3: month dies and then kind of fit this prophecy. But
- 33:55Speaker 3: I think reading the story, like, I never got the
- 33:57Speaker 3: inkling that it would have possibly ever been the Long
- 34:02Speaker 3: Bottoms other than the fact that ne will also fit
- 34:05Speaker 3: this prophecy.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Yeah, it's kind of interesting to just looking at the
- 34:16Speaker 1: overall timeline of this because very shortly after Baltimore acts
- 34:21Speaker 1: on that prophecy and murders the Potters, very very shortly
- 34:26Speaker 1: after that is when the death Eaters go and torture
- 34:29Speaker 1: Frank and Alice long Bottom, which obviously the death Eaters
- 34:34Speaker 1: didn't know about this prophecy, so they couldn't have even
- 34:39Speaker 1: known that the long Bottoms were kind of like this
- 34:42Speaker 1: second option family to do with the prophecy. But it's
- 34:47Speaker 1: interesting that in the end, both families and both sets
- 34:52Speaker 1: of parents really were decommissioned, and both boys were essentially
- 35:03Speaker 1: orphaned as well to be raised by family members.
- 35:07Speaker 3: So yeah, I've never thought about that. It's like there
- 35:15Speaker 3: still was some kind of I don't know if I
- 35:19Speaker 3: want to say fate component for Neville as well, Like
- 35:22Speaker 3: Neville didn't also just get off easy here, like oh well,
- 35:26Speaker 3: luckily Baltimore didn't choose me. He still had ramifications as well,
- 35:32Speaker 3: just arguably had way lesser ramifications than Harry did.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Yeah, it really is almost like the prophecy still kind
- 35:42Speaker 1: of applies to Neville though.
- 35:45Speaker 3: Well, and Neville plays such a large part in you know,
- 35:52Speaker 3: the death of Baltimore as well, right, Like arguably I
- 35:56Speaker 3: think plays almost the biggest part outside of Harry. So
- 36:00Speaker 3: I think that's also very interesting as well, that you
- 36:04Speaker 3: know he was given that role in that importance, given
- 36:09Speaker 3: that at the end it could have done him from
- 36:11Speaker 3: the beginning.
- 36:12Speaker 1: What if the prophecy never pointed to just one of
- 36:16Speaker 1: those babies, What if it was both of them, because
- 36:20Speaker 1: Baltimore wouldn't have been defeated if both of them didn't
- 36:25Speaker 1: go up against him, if Neville never took out in
- 36:28Speaker 1: the Guinea and never would have cleared the path for
- 36:31Speaker 1: Harry to kill Baltimore. So it's almost like you need
- 36:35Speaker 1: it to be again. And in order for Neville to
- 36:38Speaker 1: even have that defiance in that got to go up
- 36:43Speaker 1: against Valdemart, he needed his parents to be tortured and
- 36:48Speaker 1: basically taken away from him in that way for him
- 36:52Speaker 1: to have that sense of vengeance.
- 36:55Speaker 3: He has like more stake in it than I mean,
- 36:57Speaker 3: not that like somebody like Ron doesn't have stake in
- 37:01Speaker 3: all of it, because obviously it affects the entire Wizarding world,
- 37:05Speaker 3: and it obviously really affects his best friend. Yeah, but
- 37:08Speaker 3: he also, you know, and obviously removing the fact that
- 37:12Speaker 3: you know, he loses family members and stuff, but we're
- 37:16Speaker 3: separate from that. You know, he kind of has this
- 37:19Speaker 3: like I don't want to say perfect life, but this
- 37:22Speaker 3: complete family structure and really doesn't know any kind of badness,
- 37:30Speaker 3: like until Harry's in his life and he kind of
- 37:33Speaker 3: gets pulled into two things. But Neville can relate to that,
- 37:37Speaker 3: like he also didn't have parents, Like he also really
- 37:41Speaker 3: felt the effects of Baltimore in a way that really
- 37:45Speaker 3: no one else did other than Harry. And I think
- 37:49Speaker 3: prophecies are like interesting in general, like in any medium
- 37:55Speaker 3: that not just even Harry Potter that uses prophecies, there
- 37:59Speaker 3: always way more than just face value. Like you should
- 38:03Speaker 3: never take a prophecy at face value. It's it's always
- 38:07Speaker 3: there's so many layers to it and ways to dissect
- 38:11Speaker 3: it and everything. So I like wouldn't be surprised if
- 38:15Speaker 3: this prophecy actually was not referencing them both still just
- 38:21Speaker 3: in different ways. Yeah, because ultimately too, you could say
- 38:27Speaker 3: that like Neville also had the power to vanquish the
- 38:30Speaker 3: dark Lord because he became this true Gryffindor that was
- 38:34Speaker 3: able to pull the sword out of the hat that
- 38:36Speaker 3: was able to take down the last pork crux. I
- 38:40Speaker 3: don't think just anybody could have pulled that sword out
- 38:43Speaker 3: of the hat, Like, I don't know if there's like
- 38:46Speaker 3: you know, he's just the person that was their right
- 38:48Speaker 3: place right time. I think it was more than that.
- 38:50Speaker 3: I think it was very purposeful that.
- 38:53Speaker 2: It was him. Yeah, yeah, you too, Yeah, I.
- 39:00Speaker 3: Mean I don't think Baltimore like marks a novel as
- 39:02Speaker 3: his equal, So I think I think there are certain
- 39:05Speaker 3: things here, right. I don't think every line of this
- 39:07Speaker 3: prophecy applies to Nevell, but I think in some ways,
- 39:12Speaker 3: like you said, Amy, I think that it does, and
- 39:16Speaker 3: I think that maybe Baltimore probably did. I could see
- 39:19Speaker 3: Baltimore being the person that would hear this prophecy, take
- 39:22Speaker 3: it at face value, and like not realize, Okay, there
- 39:28Speaker 3: actually might be like more pieces of this puzzle.
- 39:31Speaker 1: He had some impulse, definitely right, and some just as
- 39:36Speaker 1: you were saying that, this just like occurred to me.
- 39:39Speaker 1: This isn't necessarily marking him as his equal. But shortly
- 39:45Speaker 1: before he pulls the sword out of the hat is
- 39:49Speaker 1: when Valdemore invites him to join his to join right,
- 39:54Speaker 1: So he sees him as someone worth not murdering and
- 40:00Speaker 1: someone worth pulling to his side, and then that's when
- 40:05Speaker 1: Neville says, no, definitely not. And yeah, that's a.
- 40:12Speaker 3: Good point because especially like Neville, of all people, right, like,
- 40:15Speaker 3: he's not the one that you ever expect to receive
- 40:18Speaker 3: an offer from a personal invitation, you know, I mean,
- 40:25Speaker 3: you know, I feel like I could see Baltimore like
- 40:27Speaker 3: reluctantly taking Draco like a person that you'd actually see
- 40:31Speaker 3: willingly join him. But yeah, it offers the invitation to Neville.
- 40:37Speaker 3: So yeah, I do think, Yeah, I think I think
- 40:40Speaker 3: we're onto something here. I think Neville does still play
- 40:44Speaker 3: a major part in this prophecy. He just kind of, yeah,
- 40:47Speaker 3: got off a little easy and wasn't the one that
- 40:50Speaker 3: had to really suffer and really be the one to
- 40:54Speaker 3: see it through. He kind of just got to be
- 40:56Speaker 3: the hero at the end.
- 40:58Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, which we kind of got ahead of
- 41:05Speaker 1: ourselves a little bit talking more about the end of
- 41:10Speaker 1: Nevill's arc there. But his early years is actually very
- 41:17Speaker 1: interesting as well, because he didn't show magic for quite
- 41:21Speaker 1: a long time. His family was worried that he was
- 41:24Speaker 1: a squib, which, actually, according to writings on the original
- 41:31Speaker 1: Potter More JK. Rowling says he did actually show small
- 41:36Speaker 1: signs of magic shortly after being born, even but his
- 41:41Speaker 1: family kept missing it. So after he was born, baby
- 41:45Speaker 1: Neville used magic to draw his blanket closer around him.
- 41:49Speaker 1: The midwife didn't notice, family didn't notice, but he did
- 41:54Speaker 1: use magic, and his family proceeded to try and force
- 42:00Speaker 1: magic out of him in some very questionable ways. Yeah,
- 42:06Speaker 1: apparently he was once dropped off of a pier, which
- 42:10Speaker 1: resulted in him nearly drowning, and at eight years old,
- 42:15Speaker 1: he finally proved to the family that he was magical
- 42:18Speaker 1: when his great uncle Algae was trying to force magic
- 42:21Speaker 1: out of him by dangling Neville out of a window
- 42:24Speaker 1: by his ankle. Algae was offered some lemon meringue pie
- 42:30Speaker 1: and accidentally let go because the pie was clearly far
- 42:34Speaker 1: more important. But Neville bounced instead of cracking on the sidewalk,
- 42:41Speaker 1: So that's great. The family was overjoyed at that.
- 42:46Speaker 3: They're lucky that they didn't create an obscurist in Neville. Yeah,
- 42:50Speaker 3: I know all this like trauma and stuff like, I
- 42:53Speaker 3: feel like this is the making of repressing whatever, because
- 42:58Speaker 3: you're being put in these dangerous situations just to prove
- 43:02Speaker 3: that you can do it.
- 43:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it almost like makes magic the animes, You're like,
- 43:06Speaker 1: why do I want this?
- 43:08Speaker 2: This is what's.
- 43:09Speaker 3: Causing this, is that I have to go through to
- 43:12Speaker 3: have it.
- 43:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 43:13Speaker 4: I was just going to say that Neville had a
- 43:15Speaker 4: more normal upbringing and you know, he was more loved.
- 43:18Speaker 4: But you know, after seeing this, it's like it's kind
- 43:20Speaker 4: of questionable, and you're like, m maybe the Darth Leads
- 43:23Speaker 4: weren't that bad after all, you know, when at least
- 43:26Speaker 4: they didn't you know, they didn't hang him from his ankle.
- 43:29Speaker 3: Oh my god, they just locked him in a closet, right,
- 43:32Speaker 3: I mean yeah, which is funny because.
- 43:37Speaker 1: Like it's the total opposite of Harry's experience, right, and
- 43:41Speaker 1: that Harry did show magical abilities and was punished for
- 43:47Speaker 1: it by the Dursleys, whereas Neville did not show magical
- 43:51Speaker 1: abilities and his family.
- 43:56Speaker 3: There's you know, there's just there are a lot of
- 43:58Speaker 3: parallels between Harriet and Nevill, but in this like juxtaposed way.
- 44:05Speaker 1: Yeah, it's fun Yeah. And also apparently it wasn't just
- 44:11Speaker 1: the family who were skeptical of Neville's magical abilities. According
- 44:16Speaker 1: to JK. Rowlings's original Pottermore writings. Children's names are written
- 44:20Speaker 1: in the Book of Admittance by the Quill of Acceptance
- 44:24Speaker 1: to reserve their spot at Hogwarts at the first sign
- 44:26Speaker 1: of magic from them, and the quill is known to
- 44:30Speaker 1: be much more accepting. Well, the book is harder to convince,
- 44:34Speaker 1: and the quill actually tried to write Neville's name right
- 44:38Speaker 1: after birth when he shifted his blankets around with magic,
- 44:42Speaker 1: but the book refused and snapped its cover shut, and
- 44:46Speaker 1: the book didn't allow Neville's name to be written on
- 44:48Speaker 1: his pages until he survived that fall.
- 44:51Speaker 3: H Man. Neville has been doubted since the moment he
- 44:57Speaker 3: was born. For kid, Yeah, and that's like interesting too,
- 45:06Speaker 3: Like I'd love to know more about just the logistics
- 45:09Speaker 3: and stuff around this Book of Admittance and the Quill
- 45:12Speaker 3: of Acceptance, and you know what criteria is this book
- 45:17Speaker 3: looking for, you know, right, because I mean most little
- 45:22Speaker 3: babies can't just move their blankets. So I feel like,
- 45:26Speaker 3: and especially he was born right in a pure blood family,
- 45:31Speaker 3: Like what were we looking for here?
- 45:33Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 45:34Speaker 3: And I wonder if it just was like, yeah, there
- 45:37Speaker 3: was just always this doubt I think about Neville's abilities,
- 45:43Speaker 3: which unfortunately I feel like stuck with him for several years,
- 45:48Speaker 3: and we see that during his years and Hogwarts as well.
- 45:52Speaker 3: It's just like, yeah, the true definition of like the underdog.
- 45:59Speaker 3: That was definitely overlooked Bright from the beginning, from that
- 46:06Speaker 3: Book of Admittance, overlooked Neville.
- 46:11Speaker 1: What a mistake. So we do have a little bit
- 46:18Speaker 1: of information about Neville's wand as well that I wanted
- 46:21Speaker 1: to go into. So his first wand because he had to.
- 46:26Speaker 1: His first one he inherited from his father, and that's
- 46:30Speaker 1: the wand that he took to Hogwarts, which we don't
- 46:34Speaker 1: really have any information on that wand. It's wood or
- 46:36Speaker 1: it's core or anything like that. But we do know
- 46:41Speaker 1: that information for his second wand, which he got after
- 46:47Speaker 1: the battle and the Department of Mysteries, because that's when
- 46:50Speaker 1: his old wand broke and Neville actually believes that his
- 46:58Speaker 1: second wand is one of the last the Olivander ever
- 47:01Speaker 1: sold since he vanished the next day, and that wand
- 47:08Speaker 1: is made of cherry with a unicorn hair core, which
- 47:15Speaker 1: in our Wandlor episode we didn't talk about cherry. I
- 47:18Speaker 1: don't believe.
- 47:19Speaker 2: I don't think we did.
- 47:20Speaker 1: Yeah, don't think so, Yeah, it wasn't the wood for
- 47:23Speaker 1: any of the characters we talked about in that episode,
- 47:25Speaker 1: so it's actually interesting. So according to JK. Rowling, for
- 47:33Speaker 1: cherry wands that Pottermore writing says, this very rare wand
- 47:39Speaker 1: wood creates a wand of strange power, most highly prized
- 47:43Speaker 1: by the wizarding students of the school of Mahada Koro
- 47:47Speaker 1: in Japan, where those who own cherry wands have special prestige.
- 47:52Speaker 1: The Western wand purchaser should dispel from their minds any
- 47:56Speaker 1: notion that the pink blossom of the living tree makes
- 48:00Speaker 1: for a frivolous or merely ornamental wand. For cherrywood often
- 48:04Speaker 1: makes a wand that possesses truly lethal power whatever the core.
- 48:09Speaker 1: But if teamed with dragon heart string, the wand ought
- 48:12Speaker 1: never to be team teamed with a wizard without exceptional
- 48:16Speaker 1: self control and strength of mind. So powerful wand wood
- 48:26Speaker 1: And then to refresh our memory for unicorn hair. Unicorn
- 48:30Speaker 1: hair generally produces the most consistent magic and is least
- 48:34Speaker 1: subject to fluctuations in blockages. Wands with unicorn cores are
- 48:39Speaker 1: generally the most difficult to turn to the dark arts.
- 48:42Speaker 1: They are the most faithful of all wands and usually
- 48:45Speaker 1: remains strongly attached to their first owner, irrespective of whether
- 48:49Speaker 1: he or she was an accomplished which or wizard. Minor
- 48:53Speaker 1: disadvantages of unicorn hair are that they do not make
- 48:56Speaker 1: the most powerful wands, although the wand wood may come
- 49:00Speaker 1: say in this case, I think that's the case here,
- 49:05Speaker 1: and that they are prone to melancholy if seriously mishandled,
- 49:08Speaker 1: meaning that the hair may die in need replacing. So
- 49:15Speaker 1: what do we think of this pairing in regards to Neville.
- 49:24Speaker 4: I mean, strong wizard paired with initially a wand that
- 49:29Speaker 4: hadn't chosen him. It makes you know, it's this interesting
- 49:33Speaker 4: paralysm because you know, throughout the story you kind of
- 49:37Speaker 4: see how Neville struggles to cast magic and become this
- 49:41Speaker 4: powerful wizard. And you could initially attribute it to the
- 49:44Speaker 4: fact that you know, he was using a wand that
- 49:47Speaker 4: have been inherited by his father, or that he's.
- 49:49Speaker 2: A late bloomer.
- 49:51Speaker 4: But you know, when you kind of like taken to
- 49:54Speaker 4: consideration that it wasn't even his wand it wasn't the
- 49:57Speaker 4: one that had chosen him at Oli and Anders, and
- 50:00Speaker 4: that he was already making tremendous progress in year five
- 50:04Speaker 4: with Doubler's army, and you know, you can only imagine
- 50:07Speaker 4: how powerful he actually was because imagine if he would
- 50:11Speaker 4: have had his own wand from the beginning, how you know,
- 50:16Speaker 4: how much he would have developed early on. So I
- 50:20Speaker 4: think it just really highlights how much of a powerful
- 50:25Speaker 4: wizard he actually was. But it seems like Live had
- 50:29Speaker 4: a different, different plans for him and needed to kind
- 50:33Speaker 4: of like, you know, make him feel like this, like
- 50:35Speaker 4: you guys said, an underdog for a long time. So
- 50:38Speaker 4: I think it's interesting these descriptions of both like the
- 50:42Speaker 4: core and the wood, because it really says that, you know,
- 50:46Speaker 4: the wood can compensate probably a not so strong.
- 50:52Speaker 2: Core.
- 50:52Speaker 4: So I think it really speaks, you know, kind of
- 50:56Speaker 4: speaks volumes of how Neville evolves into story and it's
- 51:00Speaker 4: becoming this very powerful wizard, this leader, this like somehow.
- 51:06Speaker 2: Yeah, like his wood would be.
- 51:07Speaker 4: Like his you know, his actual power, and that's how
- 51:12Speaker 4: he exteriorizes it somehow. So yeah, I mean, I think
- 51:16Speaker 4: it makes sense with his character and how he developed.
- 51:22Speaker 3: Again, I think like the like speaking of the core,
- 51:25Speaker 3: I think compared to the other cores, that unicorn hair
- 51:30Speaker 3: kind of makes the most sense for him as well,
- 51:34Speaker 3: I think between the consistent magic, I think he's a
- 51:37Speaker 3: very consistent person and also talking about how just faithful,
- 51:44Speaker 3: like unicorn core wands are, you know, and they become
- 51:49Speaker 3: very strongly attached to their owner, and also regardless of
- 51:53Speaker 3: if they're an accomplished witcher wizard, that seems to kind
- 51:55Speaker 3: of really fit him as well. And he's also just
- 51:59Speaker 3: a very faithful person, and so I think that in
- 52:05Speaker 3: this case, I feel like the core really really makes
- 52:08Speaker 3: sense for him. And then it kind of really made
- 52:10Speaker 3: sense that he would have this like wood that would
- 52:12Speaker 3: compensate for the weaknesses that come with the core. Yeah,
- 52:18Speaker 3: but yeah, I can't I can't really imagine. I mean,
- 52:22Speaker 3: I'm sure like if he had had like dragon heartstring
- 52:24Speaker 3: or like another core like it, we could probably see
- 52:27Speaker 3: how it makes sense. But I do think he's definitely
- 52:30Speaker 3: most fitted for Unicorn hair m h.
- 52:36Speaker 1: I think it's interesting too that, you know, he inherited
- 52:39Speaker 1: his father's wand, but his father's not dead, so I
- 52:45Speaker 1: almost feel like that plays a role in the fact
- 52:48Speaker 1: that that wand really doesn't fully fit him, not only
- 52:53Speaker 1: because it didn't choose him, but his original owner is
- 52:56Speaker 1: still alive.
- 52:57Speaker 3: It's like a forced allegiance kind of thing. No, for sure,
- 53:04Speaker 3: because I think obviously, you know, like in our Onelreer episode,
- 53:07Speaker 3: we talked a lot about the wands kind of having
- 53:10Speaker 3: a bit of sentience to them, and you know, there
- 53:14Speaker 3: are a lot of of course, like it's hard, right
- 53:16Speaker 3: because we don't know the details of that original Wand.
- 53:20Speaker 3: But it'd be really interesting to know if like that
- 53:22Speaker 3: original Wand was also like Unicorn Hair, because obviously we
- 53:25Speaker 3: just talked about it's the most faithful of wands. It
- 53:28Speaker 3: remained strongly attached to their first owner, and so it
- 53:32Speaker 3: would make sense maybe that that original Wand also had
- 53:35Speaker 3: that same core and it still has some allegiance to Frank.
- 53:38Speaker 3: But I think all of the all of the wands
- 53:40Speaker 3: in general, I think had I mean had some kind
- 53:46Speaker 3: of allegiance to their owner more just more than others.
- 53:52Speaker 3: I think it also really plays into like the fact
- 53:54Speaker 3: of like you know, I think of like the elder
- 53:57Speaker 3: Wand and how you know it will switch its allegiance
- 54:00Speaker 3: if you know, if you're if it's if you're defeated
- 54:02Speaker 3: by somebody, and so it's just really interesting like how
- 54:07Speaker 3: wands quote unquote think I guess, but I think that
- 54:12Speaker 3: that's probably like there probably is something there, like, right,
- 54:15Speaker 3: it don't. Yeah, it senses that, Okay, the wand that I,
- 54:18Speaker 3: the person I chose, is still around, even if they're
- 54:21Speaker 3: not mentally full fully you know who they were. And
- 54:28Speaker 3: so I think like he probably was faded to always
- 54:30Speaker 3: have something happen to that wand. It was the only
- 54:33Speaker 3: way for him to kind of be forced to get
- 54:37Speaker 3: a new wand that would be more aligned.
- 54:41Speaker 2: With him.
- 54:42Speaker 4: It also makes me think if this WAND he was
- 54:45Speaker 4: gaining its allegiance by the end of book five because
- 54:48Speaker 4: he was, you know, learning very complex spells. He was
- 54:51Speaker 4: learning to master these spells, not to miscast them, and
- 54:55Speaker 4: he was becoming a lot more confident. I wonder if, well,
- 54:57Speaker 4: that's what the WAND was actually looking for terms of allegiance,
- 55:00Speaker 4: someone who's confident, someone who you know, really puts a
- 55:03Speaker 4: lot of determination to his casting to magic too. So
- 55:08Speaker 4: it's interesting to see and it would be very interesting
- 55:11Speaker 4: to know if this one was actually having this, you know,
- 55:16Speaker 4: from being a little skeptical of Neville, very skeptical of
- 55:20Speaker 4: Neville at the beginning, slowly starting to find its way
- 55:24Speaker 4: into him and trusting him, and you know, it would
- 55:28Speaker 4: have been interesting to see how he how he would
- 55:31Speaker 4: have developed had he not you know, broken the wand.
- 55:36Speaker 4: But yeah, I also agree that he needed a one
- 55:38Speaker 4: that was one hundred percent compatible with him and that
- 55:41Speaker 4: spoke to him and that he could fully unleash his
- 55:44Speaker 4: full potential. So I think that was necessary. Again, Destiny,
- 55:49Speaker 4: call it what you want, but you know, it was
- 55:51Speaker 4: part of you know, I think it was a necessary
- 55:55Speaker 4: thing to happen for him to become the wizard he
- 55:58Speaker 4: ends up being.
- 56:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, he starts to become his own person
- 56:04Speaker 1: after he gets his own wand basically, And I wonder
- 56:08Speaker 1: if you know, he was living under the shadow of
- 56:13Speaker 1: the family and his parents, especially like his grandmother, always
- 56:18Speaker 1: pushing for him to live up to that, you know,
- 56:23Speaker 1: getting his own wand and just becoming his own wizard
- 56:29Speaker 1: out from underneath that shadow and his father's wand being
- 56:34Speaker 1: part of that shadow, right, because it's like a constant
- 56:36Speaker 1: reminder of, well, my dad was pretty great and I'm
- 56:41Speaker 1: not him, but I've got his wand.
- 56:43Speaker 4: Like yeah, yeah, McGonagall even tells her that she should
- 56:47Speaker 4: be very proud of the you know, his grandson. He
- 56:51Speaker 4: cannot live in the shadow of his parents you know,
- 56:54Speaker 4: he is his own person and he's doing well on
- 56:57Speaker 4: his own. He has his own you know, his own
- 57:01Speaker 4: He has weaknesses, but he has a lot of strengths.
- 57:03Speaker 4: And that's what you know, I think he really owns
- 57:08Speaker 4: up to and he's fully embracing by the end of
- 57:10Speaker 4: the series.
- 57:13Speaker 3: When I think him getting his own WAND is also
- 57:16Speaker 3: like it really is just symbolic of all of that, because,
- 57:20Speaker 3: like you said, Amy, that's like when we really see
- 57:22Speaker 3: him kind of coming into his own. And yeah, I mean,
- 57:26Speaker 3: of course it begs the question of like would that
- 57:28Speaker 3: have happened sooner, like if he got his own wand sooner?
- 57:31Speaker 3: And I also wonder too if there's something about, like,
- 57:35Speaker 3: you know, learning and growing with the wand, like you know,
- 57:40Speaker 3: if you're the if you're eleven years old and you're
- 57:42Speaker 3: getting your first one, and that you're the first wizard
- 57:45Speaker 3: that that WAND has been bonded to, if there's just
- 57:48Speaker 3: something about we're learning and growing together that also just
- 57:53Speaker 3: helps that that bond I guess between that wizard and
- 57:58Speaker 3: that wand. And he never really got that experience until
- 58:04Speaker 3: later in life when he got his own Wand. But yeah,
- 58:08Speaker 3: I'd be really curious if that had happened sooner. I mean,
- 58:10Speaker 3: I think it happened when it needed to happen. Like again,
- 58:13Speaker 3: I feel like there's a lot of destiny and fate.
- 58:15Speaker 3: We keep bringing that up, like destiny and fate with Neville,
- 58:18Speaker 3: and I think that if it had happened earlier, we
- 58:21Speaker 3: maybe wouldn't have gotten the right arc that we needed
- 58:23Speaker 3: for Neville. But it's just very symbolic because you know,
- 58:28Speaker 3: we see other characters also like get new wanes or
- 58:32Speaker 3: have wands broken. You know, we see it like with
- 58:35Speaker 3: Ron and stuff too, but I think it's more like
- 58:40Speaker 3: symbolic with Neville.
- 58:42Speaker 2: Yeah, comic relief.
- 58:44Speaker 3: Because of almost right, which is like his character in
- 58:48Speaker 3: a way, like it's just you know it, so it
- 58:51Speaker 3: really it's not comparable at all, Like Ron didn't necessarily
- 58:54Speaker 3: turn into a totally different person after.
- 58:57Speaker 1: Yeah right right, And like we mentioned, he does start
- 59:08Speaker 1: to kind of get a handle on casting magic with
- 59:11Speaker 1: that wand and book five we see that he is
- 59:16Speaker 1: finally able to cast a non corporeal patronis, which is
- 59:21Speaker 1: still a pretty big deal because it's supposedly pretty rare
- 59:25Speaker 1: in advanced to cast a corporeal one. So even just
- 59:28Speaker 1: doing the non corporeal mist is a big step for novel.
- 59:36Speaker 1: Do we think he ever advanced to being able to
- 59:40Speaker 1: cast a corporeal patronis with a form to it?
- 59:46Speaker 4: No, the dark arts, the defense against the dark artsylogy.
- 59:58Speaker 3: It's weird because right, I feel very confident in saying no,
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: But I don't know if I feel super confident in
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: why I feel no. It's just a very gut like
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: I don't think so, and I think that like right,
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: I think it's it's a mixture of just like who
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: he I don't want to say necessarily like who he
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: is as a person, because obviously, you know, you have
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: people like Hermione who also aren't necessarily like face to
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: face with the death arts that can produce a patronas,
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: but she is also a very powerful witch like and
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: as much as we're talking about how Neville became more
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: skilled and became more powerful and became like a better wizard,
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: he's still not to that level. And I'm not sure
- 1:00:43Speaker 3: maybe ever was. And that's why I think like kind
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: of going the herbology route like made so much sense
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: for him. I never thought we'd never see like or Neville,
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: you know, but yeah, something just tells me, I don't.
- 1:00:58Speaker 3: I don't think so.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: I think that he becomes competent in like defense against
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: the dark arts, transfiguration, all of that, but I don't
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: think he ever reaches that level of extraordinary in those areas.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: His extraordinary happens elsewhere.
- 1:01:17Speaker 3: Right, Like he didn't necessarily need to because he kind
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: of found his niche where it was like you think
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: of again, kind of comparing them back to Harry, Harry
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: didn't really have the luxury of just being like, I'm
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: going to be really passionate about her biology, you know,
- 1:01:34Speaker 3: like Harry wouldn't have gotten very far if he just
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: if he didn't become so skilled in advanced magic and
- 1:01:44Speaker 3: advanced spells and the dark arts like he needed that,
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: or Neville didn't really need to he could kind of yeah.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: Yeah, if he had able to actually cast a fully
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: formed patronis what form do we think it would take?
- 1:02:08Speaker 3: So I think that it would be a lion. And
- 1:02:11Speaker 3: I know that sounds so like stereotypical, but I don't know.
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: I think, like, because there's something about Neville that is
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: like a very like pure gryffindor that I don't think
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: we get in a lot of the other characters, and
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: I don't even know if I can like elaborate more
- 1:02:37Speaker 3: on what I mean by that, so hopefully it makes sense.
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: And it's like kind of like, oh, yeah, I see,
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: I just think that, like I don't know, I think
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: the way that he kind of just grew into his
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: confidence and grew into his bravery versus kind of necessarily
- 1:02:56Speaker 3: having it like right off the bat like others, like
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: others maybe did, and he was kind of I mean,
- 1:03:03Speaker 3: of course, we always say like, oh well, Hermione seemed
- 1:03:07Speaker 3: like she should have been a raven claw, you know,
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: but other than her, like I feel like Neville's the
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: kind of the big characters were like was he sorted wrong?
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: And everything like that, but then he kind of proves
- 1:03:18Speaker 3: in the end that he wasn't. And there's something about like,
- 1:03:22Speaker 3: I don't know, him having the emblem of that house
- 1:03:25Speaker 3: as his patronas.
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: Yeah, just yeah true Gryffindor like fits for me.
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: I mean, also we see him stand up to bullies,
- 1:03:36Speaker 4: like in the first year the Quidditch match, he stands
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: up to Malfoy, something we don't necessarily we don't see
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: it much in the films but in the books, it's
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: much more evident that he is actually someone who will,
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: you know, stand up to his bullies, he will defend
- 1:03:52Speaker 4: his friends, he will you know, he's just a gryffind
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: Or inside out from the very get go. Even though
- 1:03:58Speaker 4: he lacks confidence and he lacks some of the things
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: that make a Gryffindor such, but he still has these
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: very important qualities that make him that. And you know,
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: eventually he pulls the sword out of the sorting hat,
- 1:04:13Speaker 4: so you know, he's a true Gryffindor. And I like,
- 1:04:18Speaker 4: I like that association. I mean, like you said, it
- 1:04:20Speaker 4: does sound a little like cliche at first when you
- 1:04:21Speaker 4: say lion, but it makes total sense. I mean I'm
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: not going to be saying, oh, yeah, I think it
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: should be probably a badger and you know, put out
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: his hufflebuff side, which I mean could also happen because
- 1:04:33Speaker 4: he has some qualities like you know, being very faithful
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: and so yeah, like I.
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: Just don't see him having a little animal as a
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: poor tonist. I just see it's like this, It's like
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: something you'd unexpect. It's like it's like yeah, and I
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: feel like that's like an answer a lot of people
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: would give initially like of course it would be a
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: tot look how much he loved Trevor. But I think
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: that's I think that's too like obvious to pick for him.
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: I just I just expect him like being in this
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: room and all of a sudden like something, Yeah, like
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: you don't expect it, like you expect this little warty
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: toad to come out and and be like, oh my god,
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: it's my own Trevor. Like no, like I think he's
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: going to have this big lion or something come roaring out,
- 1:05:22Speaker 3: and it's just it's what you wouldn't expect. And I
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: think Neville is a character is what you don't expect,
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: Like that's his whole his whole arc is he becomes
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: something that you don't expect.
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I was going to say, like something like a bear,
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: because like bears, initially you look at them and you're
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: like they're funny, they're like kind of clumsy, they're like
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: bumbling around, but they're very deadly.
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: Yeah, they're deadly.
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: They defend their family like to the death right. So yeah,
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: that was my thought, like the lion too.
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I could see a bear two and it kind
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: of is like that same kind of it. I don't know,
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: like that same kind of idea of just this big,
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: kind of ferocious type thing, because you just don't think
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: big and ferocious when you think of Neville, and so
- 1:06:21Speaker 3: I think it just makes perfect sense that that's what
- 1:06:24Speaker 3: would be there to like defend him.
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: Yeah. So Neville is one of the only main characters
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: that we have who actually goes back to Hogwarts for
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: the seventh year and stays the full year, because even Ginny,
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: you know, after Christmas Break goes into hiding, right, So,
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: but he does go back to Hogwarts. He suffers through
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: the Caros and Snape's regime. He stood up to the
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: Caros and he reformed the da with Ginny and Luna,
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: and he was actually punished after refusing to perform the
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: Cruciadis curse on another student, which was a form of
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: punishment favored by the Caros, which is especially cruel to
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: Neville because the Cruciadis curse is what landed his parents
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: incapacitated in Saint Mango's so of course he wasn't going
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: to perform that on somebody. And when the Caros figured
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: out that he was the head of the rebellion at Hogwarts,
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: Neville hid in the Room of Requirement. So yeah, definitely
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: that leadership aspect we mentioned in the beginning of this
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: with his name being associated with leadership, right, he does
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: definitely step up that year.
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: Yeah, he's kind of like I mean, also kind of
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: in the vein of what we keep referring to, he's
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: almost like, especially if you think of early on Neville,
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: like he's not the first character that you'd ever think
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: of that's like, I'm the one that's stepping up and
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: reforming this and without you know, Harry being there, and
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: even the fact that he kind of stepped up and
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: did it even over like Ginny, Like I kind of
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: see Ginny as really being the character, especially just even
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: given her connection to Harry, to be the one to
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: be like I'm going to step up and I'm going
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: to take the lead here. And so I think it's
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: very interesting that it's actually Neville.
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, And.
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: It almost is like I don't know, I mean, I
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: guess to kind of go back to what we were
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: talking about with the prophecy as well. I mean literally
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: we keep talking about fate and destiny, but like, I
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: don't know if it you know, it kind of almost
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: seems like maybe it was Neville's fate to be the
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: one to kind of step up in Harry's absence to
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: reform this and kind of because we know if Harry
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: had been there, right, like, Harry probably would have been
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: leading Dumbledore's army. But it almost is like Neville is
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: faded to be the one to do it in the
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: absence of Harry again because of this prophecy and his
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: role yeah in the prophecy.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's so interesting too how he does all
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: of this under Snape Snows just after just the nature
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: of their relationship for the past seven years. Past Snape's
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: really been his biggest bully.
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: He's had enough by seven.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: His greatest fear too, as we see with the bog
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: Art right. Yeah, so it's interesting that Neville kind of
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: gets his revenge.
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: Yeah, and he knows what he's there for year seven
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: from this get go. Like I love that little scene
- 1:09:59Speaker 4: in the Definitely holl Is Part one where he's like, hey, losers,
- 1:10:02Speaker 4: he's not here. You know, he's very bold, he's you know,
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: he doesn't you know, he doesn't care anymore, Like he
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: knows he's there to lead this, you know, his his
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: you know, his classmates and and people that he needs
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: to protect. And you know he's not going to take
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: any anything from these death theaters. He's not afraid of them.
- 1:10:27Speaker 4: I think it shows how much he grows as a character.
- 1:10:31Speaker 4: And like you like you guys said, like maybe it's
- 1:10:34Speaker 4: not so much his his skills as a wizard, as
- 1:10:38Speaker 4: you know, you can show power for from different sides,
- 1:10:41Speaker 4: not just magic, but just standing up to these evil
- 1:10:45Speaker 4: forces and leading people to doing good and protecting people
- 1:10:50Speaker 4: and uh, smaller students. Like he was kind of like yeah,
- 1:10:56Speaker 4: mama bear, you know somehow like you know he would
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: go with the bear again, but.
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: Yeah, it was really yeah, So I think it's it's crazy.
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: Well it's like it's like what Hermione alludes to, right,
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: Like it's just like, yeah, you can have like books
- 1:11:12Speaker 3: and cleverness, but there's other there's other things there. And
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: that's why, like they all work so well together because
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: they all have different strengths, and there are different strengths
- 1:11:24Speaker 3: play on everybody else's weaknesses and like you know, I
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: mean and you've got I mean even looking at like
- 1:11:31Speaker 3: a character like Baltimore, right, like he's one of the
- 1:11:34Speaker 3: most powerful wizards, but that's like his strength and like
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: his only strength, and he's got all these other things
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: that he doesn't have, and like that is kind of
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: also what leads to his downfall because of his strength.
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: And so, no, Nevill might not be your strongest wizard
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: from a practical sense or from a book and cleverness,
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: but he's got this grit that like all their characters
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: don't have, which really plays its role, especially when it's
- 1:12:11Speaker 3: most needed.
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: He's someone you definitely need in your team.
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, and I think too, like you mentioned Valtimore
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: and his weaknesses, one of his biggest weaknesses is sure
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: he's got the death Eaters, but he never actually fully
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: clues anyone into what he's doing or what he needs done,
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: whereas on the other end, you've got Harry who does
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: clue people in. Right, So he's then got Ron and Hermione,
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: and then eventually during the Battle of Hogwarts, has Neville too,
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: when he kind of fills in Neville enough to say, hey,
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: you have to kill the snake, like that's your top priority,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: that's the most important goal of this battle. You've got
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: to take out Nighini.
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: And that it completely blindsides Baldemore because Valdemore is so
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: focused on Harry because that's just who he is. He
- 1:13:10Speaker 3: becomes so focused on this one thing and like almost
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: too focused on the prophecy right where it's like and
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: I think that's where it is, this thing where I
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: think Neville was still playing a role in this prophecy,
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: but like Baldemore was just so focused on Harry and
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: was just ignoring the fact of everything else. And you know, thinks, Okay,
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: well I've got Harry right here, so like Niccghini's safe.
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: But no, Harry recognizes, like, I can't do this alone,
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: and that is really ultimately what worked to his benefit,
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: because yeah, he was able to clue Neville in enough,
- 1:13:44Speaker 3: and Neville was able to help in a way that
- 1:13:47Speaker 3: like didn't He didn't necessarily need to be the best
- 1:13:52Speaker 3: expells or the best wizard, like for what his role was,
- 1:13:55Speaker 3: he just needed to be him, which was somebody worthy
- 1:13:59Speaker 3: of pulling the sword out of the hat.
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So when Neville does kill Niccghini,
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: it's interesting, like the events leading up to that is
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: obviously we mentioned. You know, Baltimore is parading around Harry's
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: quote unquote dead body Neville's extremely defiant in that situation.
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: Baltimore offers him a place as a death eater. Neville
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: obviously says no. The swording hats forced on his head.
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: Valtimore sets fire to it. The flames do nothing to Neville,
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: like doesn't hurt him. He's able to pull the sword
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: out of the hat instead uses it to be had
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: in nighiney there goes Valtimore's last hor crucks. So just
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: that whole series of a this is so interesting too,
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: just like just the fact that like nothing like Valdemort
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: couldn't hurt him in that moment, and it's so interesting
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: that it's like, Okay, you're not going to join me,
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: I also can't hurt you, like what's happening here, And
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: it almost makes you wonder again going back to the prophecy,
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: is it a similar situation in which Nevil's parents sacrifice
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: is protecting him in this moment in Baltimore can't.
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: Protection all along, and like nobody realized.
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: But they didn't know until this moment, because Baltimore ever
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: went after.
- 1:15:49Speaker 4: That moment, he never saw him as his equal or
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: you know, he was just kind of I think I
- 1:15:58Speaker 4: almost feel like he was looking down on him the
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: whole time, like he wanted him to join him. But
- 1:16:04Speaker 4: I don't know, I don't think he would have given
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: him a you know, very big role in his in
- 1:16:11Speaker 4: his I think.
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: He'd be like that, Yeah, exactly, That's how I interpreted it.
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: Yeah, Well, it's interesting because I've never really thought like
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: because it's I mean, it's also about a while since
- 1:16:24Speaker 3: I've read Dadley Hallows, so like I always forget sometimes
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: like how it happened in the book versus in the film,
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: because obviously the whole wearing the sorting hat the flames, like,
- 1:16:35Speaker 3: obviously that didn't that wasn't in the film, right, But
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: I think that, like I don't know, I mean, I
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: do think we're definitely onto something like with with the prophecy,
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: because there really is other than I think the fact
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: that the sorting hat probably also has some like sentience
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: and also in that moment, like it's probably much more
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: aligned against Baltimore and so maybe that was partly why
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: like Neville was protected. But I feel like it probably
- 1:17:02Speaker 3: goes like way deeper than that, and it again, yeah,
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: it probably goes back to the prophecy and like maybe
- 1:17:11Speaker 3: he doesn't have as strong protection as Harry does. But
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: I think, like right at the end of the day,
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: like his parents didn't die, but they still are quote
- 1:17:24Speaker 3: unquote like dead, like you know what I mean, they're
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: not them anymore, Like they still sacrifice themselves almost as
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: much of James Lily for sure worse, yeah, worse than death,
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: because right they're they're living in this this state. So
- 1:17:44Speaker 3: I think that, yeah, I think that really both of them.
- 1:17:48Speaker 3: I think what really was different though, is obviously Harry
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: became a hoore crookx and Neville didn't. That's like really
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: what separated them, I think from the prophecy.
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: But ne a long bottom and the Sorcerer's stone.
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, yeah, to think maybe that whole time he
- 1:18:16Speaker 3: literally had equal protect I mean, of course, I think
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: it would have been. I think Harry's protection obviously, like
- 1:18:24Speaker 3: again goes further than just his mother's sacrifice because obviously
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: a part of Baltimore lives in him, so he I think,
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: you know, he was always going to be more protected
- 1:18:34Speaker 3: because the horse crux is not going to let it's
- 1:18:36Speaker 3: going to protect itself. But I think that the fact
- 1:18:39Speaker 3: that Neville was protected in this moment also just shows
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: the power if we're right about our speculation. Shows the
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: power of whatever that spell is when it happens with
- 1:18:51Speaker 3: the sacrifice and everything, because you know, I used to
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: kind of always think, well, yeah, Harry is protected by
- 1:19:01Speaker 3: his mother's sacrifice, in his mother's love, but there's more
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: to it. He literally has Baltimore inside of him, but
- 1:19:06Speaker 3: Neville doesn't, and he's still had this moment where he
- 1:19:08Speaker 3: could not be hurt by Baltimore and it kind of
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: it's a good thing, but it also kind of sucks
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: that this is the first time we kind of see
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: like Baltimore v. Neville, kind of to see like it
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: would be interesting to see if like there had been
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: an earlier situation where there was like a subtle hint
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: possibly of Neville having this protection, but obviously we don't. Really,
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: we don't really get that, which I'm glad for Neville
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: he didn't have to face Baltimore before this, but yeah,
- 1:19:42Speaker 3: very interesting. Yeah, yeah, I think it just shows too
- 1:19:49Speaker 3: that he's much more important of a character than I
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: think most people find them to be. I mean, obviously
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: he's part of like our core characters, right, so he's
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: not like it's not like he's a side character by
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: any means, but he doesn't necessarily get the i don't know,
- 1:20:12Speaker 3: the praise that like Ginny and maybe Luna get of
- 1:20:17Speaker 3: those like the main sex characters, because he's kind of
- 1:20:22Speaker 3: just looked at more in this comic relief, kind of easier.
- 1:20:26Speaker 4: To think of our heroes like Luna, Jenny, Ron, Harmione,
- 1:20:30Speaker 4: Harry like he's the the underdog. He is the you know,
- 1:20:34Speaker 4: he he is this hero who shows his strengths in
- 1:20:38Speaker 4: a different way, which is sometimes hard for people to
- 1:20:42Speaker 4: fully grasp and to fully embrace. But when you look
- 1:20:46Speaker 4: at it, and when we dissect this and we see
- 1:20:48Speaker 4: his story and we see everything that he went through,
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: it really makes an important point of how significant he
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: is to this story and how much of a breaking
- 1:20:58Speaker 4: point we have because of his actions. So he's definitely
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: a lot more important than what people give him credit for.
- 1:21:08Speaker 4: And Yeah, I think it's great to have these kind
- 1:21:11Speaker 4: of conversations where we really go dive deep into into
- 1:21:14Speaker 4: the characters because we really let them, you know, we
- 1:21:17Speaker 4: let them kind of like fully unleash, and it's it's great.
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: It's great to see that.
- 1:21:25Speaker 3: I mean, I've definitely never thought of Neville in this way.
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: Yeah, before exactly That's what I'm saying.
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: Yeah, like you know, I think you just you just
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: kind of automatically think like, Okay, well he could have
- 1:21:35Speaker 3: been a big player because he could have been this
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: prophecy baby, but he wasn't. So yeah, you know, but like, no,
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: it is much more than that.
- 1:21:45Speaker 2: And yeah, reads to some questions.
- 1:21:48Speaker 3: Definitely think a little Neville in a different way.
- 1:21:49Speaker 5: Now.
- 1:21:52Speaker 1: Yeah, So he does go on to live a nice,
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: full life. He is the godfather to Harry and Jenny
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: son Alvis. He becomes the herbology teacher at Hogwarts, and
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: he marries Hannah Abbott, so yeah, I know.
- 1:22:14Speaker 3: For more Yeah, and glad in the end, he got
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: his happy ending, and I think that it makes I
- 1:22:20Speaker 3: think becoming a teacher is such a fitting career for him,
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: I think, especially herbology. And you know, I'm glad that
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: he was kind of able to find his niche in
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: the Wizarding world.
- 1:22:39Speaker 4: Yeah, and for more of Neville's life as a herbalogy teacher,
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: check Wizard Harry Potter Magic Awakened, which is still available
- 1:22:50Speaker 4: on PC, so you can still check it out.
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, so that's everything for our main discussion, and yeah,
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: hopefully we'll do some more of these, because, like you said,
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: it's interesting to dive into just one character and kind
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: of just focus on that one thing.
- 1:23:12Speaker 2: M H.
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: For sure, specialis Revellio.
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: So for this episode we for our rotating segment, we
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: wanted to do specialis Revellio and focusing specifically on Membulus
- 1:23:36Speaker 3: mimbletonia because obviously this plant is often very associated with Neville.
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: So again in this segment, this is where we kind
- 1:23:44Speaker 3: of talk about the like etymology or just the facts
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: and figures around stuff in the Wizarding World. So the
- 1:23:53Speaker 3: Membulus mimbletonia is described as a small gray cactus. It's
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: in an often planet in a pot, but it is
- 1:24:04Speaker 3: covered in what looks like boils rather than the spines
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: that you typically get in a cactus. So it's a
- 1:24:12Speaker 3: very rare magical plant, and it is notable for its
- 1:24:16Speaker 3: pulsating and squirming nature and its unique defense mechanism. And
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: what that defense mechanism is is using those boils that
- 1:24:25Speaker 3: it has on it. So when you poke and prod
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: the plant, there's a substance within those boils called stink SAP,
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: and it squirted out from the boils and luckily though
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: stink sap is non poisonous, but you still like don't
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: want to get it on you. It's described as being
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: dark green and smells like rancid manure, so it doesn't
- 1:24:50Speaker 3: even need to be poisonous. It just disgusting. So Neville
- 1:24:56Speaker 3: received Mimbletonia as a gift from his uncle Algae. Maybe
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: Uncle Elgie was thinking about, like man that day when
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: I like dropped Neville because I chose the pie over him,
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: I feel kind of bad about this. Let me give
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: him a gift. So Uncle Elgie came around eventually, and
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: when he learned of Neville's growing interest in herbology, that
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: was when he gifted him this particular plant. Again, very
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: interesting choice by Uncle Elga to choose this plant of
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: all plants. But you know, there might be some symbolism there,
- 1:25:32Speaker 3: you know, between it's it's kind of like this this
- 1:25:37Speaker 3: plant that looks away and you kind of almost like
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: would assume it's poisonous, but to your surprise, it's actually not.
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: And Neville kind of is not how he seems and
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: how he looks, So maybe there's some hidden symbolism here.
- 1:25:49Speaker 4: And it's not a fan favorite either, Like I don't
- 1:25:51Speaker 4: see wizards, you know, queuing up to get one.
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: Of these no giving it away from valanc underdog plants.
- 1:26:01Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not the most sightly plant, you know. And
- 1:26:05Speaker 3: I think like Neville has been kind of like, you know,
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: picked on for his looks and stuff like that, you know,
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: so I think there's there's maybe some symbolism there. But yeah,
- 1:26:14Speaker 3: but Neville demonstrates this defense mechanism to Harry, you know,
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: while they're on the Hogwarts Express and you know, of
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: course accidentally covers the entire compartment and Harry and Jinny
- 1:26:26Speaker 3: and Luna with the stink sapp and Ginny is the
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: one that ends up cleaning it up with the scouring charm. Well,
- 1:26:34Speaker 3: you can imagine how awful that cabin smelled. And that
- 1:26:39Speaker 3: also probably ruined any chance Nevill had with Luna in
- 1:26:42Speaker 3: that moment, you know, for all the Neville Luna shippers
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: that are out there. So mambeless. Mimbletonia was also uses
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: the password for the gryffind Or common room at the
- 1:26:54Speaker 3: start of nineteen ninety five nineteen ninety six school year,
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: which made Nevill very happy because because it was a
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: password he could finally remember, because it had personal significance
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: to him.
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: Maybe they should have just done a different plant each
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: month for the password.
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: He would probably remember, yes, yeah, right, right, and yes,
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: and we get to see the memberliss Mimbletonia in the
- 1:27:19Speaker 3: Harry Potter in the Order of the Phoenix film, And
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: there is that very iconic picture if you just google it,
- 1:27:26Speaker 3: you'll find the picture of Neville holding great Yeah. So
- 1:27:34Speaker 3: definitely has kind of become known as his plant. And
- 1:27:37Speaker 3: I hope that in his future, you know, classroom, he
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: had a nice spot for themblist maybeless Mimbletonia.
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: His first child. Yeah, yes, the favorite child. You know,
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: I'm seeing a connection here, Trevor. The toad with boils
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: on it, the Membulus simultonia boils on it.
- 1:28:07Speaker 3: I think that it's I think it kind of just
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: speaks to like Neville's character again though, is that I
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: think like somebody would be very grossed out by a
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: toad right where Neville embraces it and is you know,
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: and I think similar to like this plant. It's probably
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: not a well loved plant, right, like right, You're not
- 1:28:29Speaker 3: buying it to give to your significant other on Valentine's Day.
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: It doesn't look pretty like a rose or anything like that.
- 1:28:35Speaker 3: But to Neville, it's like interesting, right, because it's like,
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: look at what it can do when you when you
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: poke it, and it's like it's got this really cool
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: defense mechanism and not all plants have that. And I
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: think he sees the like the positive or the cool
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: you know it to him, he finds it cool, where
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: other people would just be like, you know, that's gross,
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: I don't want to touch it or whatever. It's like
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: similar to like how Hagrid feels about like creatures, you know.
- 1:29:06Speaker 3: I don't think like Hagrid or even new for that instance,
- 1:29:09Speaker 3: would necessarily shy away from, you know, a very maybe
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: unsightly character. They would find it interesting. I think Neble's
- 1:29:20Speaker 3: that same way, but about plants.
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: Yeah, kind of make me makes me ship Luna and
- 1:29:24Speaker 4: Neville more because they're both the audiball and you know,
- 1:29:28Speaker 4: like Luna would be fascinated by him having a toad
- 1:29:32Speaker 4: as his pet, like who would choose a toad having
- 1:29:34Speaker 4: owls you know, like and yeah, like or his plan
- 1:29:39Speaker 4: like the mimbleist Mimbletonia, like she would be like so
- 1:29:44Speaker 4: in awe of Neville all the time.
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: And I think would next to my dirigible plugs exactly.
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: Yes, right, they they would have been I'm sorry, but
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: they would have been so cute.
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: I know, I get it, I understand that ship.
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, makes sense.
- 1:30:01Speaker 3: I think that one was maybe a missed, a little
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: missed opportunity. But yeah, oh well, I'm happy for novel and.
- 1:30:09Speaker 5: Hannah so nice.
- 1:30:17Speaker 4: So last episode, we asked our listeners what our creature
- 1:30:21Speaker 4: scares you the most and why, and we got quite
- 1:30:24Speaker 4: a few replies. So Liz said, I think the idea
- 1:30:28Speaker 4: of the in Fairy scares me, but not their execution
- 1:30:31Speaker 4: in the movie, if that makes sense. So yeah, we
- 1:30:36Speaker 4: definitely want to know more about that, because, yeah, I
- 1:30:43Speaker 4: wonder why it doesn't really to me. They're frightening, you
- 1:30:47Speaker 4: know when you look at them, and they do look
- 1:30:51Speaker 4: they have these zombie ish qualities, but at the same time,
- 1:30:54Speaker 4: still you can tell they pertain in the magical world,
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: the wizarding world. So I don't know, I was terrified,
- 1:31:01Speaker 4: like I wouldn't want to encounter any of them. But yeah,
- 1:31:06Speaker 4: I'm definitely interested to know more about how the execution
- 1:31:10Speaker 4: didn't work.
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: Honestly, that whole scene totally like validates my fear of
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: not seeing the bottom of a lake. Swimming in a
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: lake that you could have an infury coming up underneath you,
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: you know, yeah, and not going in there.
- 1:31:30Speaker 3: Liz, let us know what about the execution and the
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: film didn't work for you because I thought they were scary.
- 1:31:39Speaker 4: So then we have Kim who said, when it comes
- 1:31:42Speaker 4: to the movies, I don't think any of them actually
- 1:31:45Speaker 4: scare me. They're going to have to live up to
- 1:31:47Speaker 4: CGI game and the TV show and in real life
- 1:31:50Speaker 4: I definitely hate running into any of them though, especially
- 1:31:53Speaker 4: being a Muggle. Yeah, except you wouldn't see them, yeah.
- 1:32:02Speaker 3: So that would be even more scary.
- 1:32:03Speaker 4: Yeah, Lucy said, first one that popped into my head
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: is Aragog. Little spiders are fine, but him Nope, nope, nope.
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: You know it's funny because I actually, like I I mean,
- 1:32:21Speaker 3: I mentioned in the other episode, I get like lots
- 1:32:23Speaker 3: of little spiders in my apartments, so I kind of
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: like have learned to not be as afraid of them,
- 1:32:27Speaker 3: and I kind of nickname them aragg and stuff. But
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: I think, like, you know, I've always been really scared
- 1:32:32Speaker 3: of spiders, but something about Aragog I don't think would
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: scare me.
- 1:32:35Speaker 2: I think it's.
- 1:32:36Speaker 3: Because like now all of his little like children. Yeah,
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: even the ones that aren't so little like.
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: They scare me.
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: But there's something about him. Maybe it's because like we
- 1:32:48Speaker 3: see him like through like Hagrid's perspective, and he's obviously
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: like friendly with Hagrid and everything, and he doesn't ever
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: like harm anybody, Like he doesn't even harm like Harry
- 1:32:59Speaker 3: and Ron. He basically it's just like, well, I'm not
- 1:33:01Speaker 3: going to hurt you, but I can't speak for my children,
- 1:33:03Speaker 3: you know. And so I feel like, because he's like
- 1:33:06Speaker 3: sentient enough, I feel like I wouldn't be afraid of him.
- 1:33:10Speaker 3: But the arachnids in general, like the fact that you've
- 1:33:14Speaker 3: got these giant spiders that can talk, yes, terrifying, and
- 1:33:20Speaker 3: Lucy being from Australia, I find it, no, yeah, really
- 1:33:24Speaker 3: funny that like this is the one that you pay.
- 1:33:26Speaker 3: Did you come from the land of terrifying.
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: Creatures and huge spiders and huge spiders.
- 1:33:35Speaker 4: The sky I literally fall from the sky.
- 1:33:39Speaker 3: Or those big ones that carry like hundreds of babies
- 1:33:41Speaker 3: on their backs, I swear they're always from Australia.
- 1:33:44Speaker 4: Again, we would like more insight into that one.
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: Basically we're judging all of your choices. We're going to
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: write to us.
- 1:33:55Speaker 4: Again Okay, that's but not least we have a very
- 1:34:02Speaker 4: thorough and a sightful message from Jerry.
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: I would expect nothing last exactly.
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: Yes, so Jerry said, this was a difficult podcast question,
- 1:34:15Speaker 4: and I must admit that I'm not a fan of
- 1:34:18Speaker 4: horror or stuff in general. I must admit that while
- 1:34:21Speaker 4: I love the newt saying there are no strange creatures,
- 1:34:26Speaker 4: only blinkered people, I for one, don't want to see
- 1:34:30Speaker 4: most of these creatures you discussed in episode twelve. Yes,
- 1:34:33Speaker 4: I agree. I finally decided that the one that scares
- 1:34:37Speaker 4: me the most are the Infurious. With a special twist
- 1:34:40Speaker 4: that I have always imagined that what it would be
- 1:34:43Speaker 4: like to have a battle with an Infurious made from
- 1:34:45Speaker 4: the body of someone you knew and perhaps loved. For example,
- 1:34:50Speaker 4: I assume that Molly Weasley didn't encounter and in Furious
- 1:34:53Speaker 4: made from the body of one of her dead brothers
- 1:34:56Speaker 4: killed in the First War with Voldemort, since otherwise, instead
- 1:34:59Speaker 4: of the just turning into dead bodies of her family members,
- 1:35:03Speaker 4: her biggest fear would have been would have been seeing
- 1:35:06Speaker 4: those dead bodies having been turned into infury. I'm betting
- 1:35:11Speaker 4: that part of the horror Dumbledore had to face in
- 1:35:14Speaker 4: the cave as he used fire to protect himself and
- 1:35:16Speaker 4: Harry from the infury was that he may have well
- 1:35:19Speaker 4: recognized some of them spooky if any were British wizards
- 1:35:26Speaker 4: or witches, which is it is likely that they had
- 1:35:29Speaker 4: attended Hogwarts and he would have known them. So my
- 1:35:33Speaker 4: biggest fear is having to fight the reanimated body of
- 1:35:36Speaker 4: someone I know.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: I never thought of that.
- 1:35:40Speaker 3: Yeah, that's interesting, So I like, definitely thank you Jerry
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: for bringing this up, because as somebody who's a big
- 1:35:47Speaker 3: fan of zombie media, this is a topic that comes
- 1:35:52Speaker 3: up a lot in zombie stories, especially stuff like The
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: Walking Dead, because you do face that, right, Like, you
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: have your loved ones and people you know who are
- 1:36:05Speaker 3: becoming zombies and then you're having to you know, kill
- 1:36:09Speaker 3: them in zombie form or fight them in zombie form,
- 1:36:12Speaker 3: and there always seems to be this component of zombie
- 1:36:16Speaker 3: stories that kind of is like where you have to
- 1:36:20Speaker 3: kind of come to terms with the fact that even
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: though this person looks like somebody that you once knew,
- 1:36:25Speaker 3: they're no longer that person that you knew, and that's
- 1:36:28Speaker 3: like a a big moral component of these stories. So
- 1:36:33Speaker 3: definitely thank you Jerry. For bringing that up.
- 1:36:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:36:38Speaker 4: So Jerry also added a couple more comments that are
- 1:36:41Speaker 4: not related to our discussion question. But I think we're very,
- 1:36:45Speaker 4: very nice, so she said. I also have to thank
- 1:36:47Speaker 4: you for a part of the discussion in episode twelve
- 1:36:50Speaker 4: that reconciled me to a problem I had been having
- 1:36:53Speaker 4: with the Ariana obscurial plot element ever since Dumbledore towre newte.
- 1:36:58Speaker 4: I think it was about the obscure playing the part
- 1:37:01Speaker 4: of a dark twin, and that if Nude were to
- 1:37:04Speaker 4: befriend Credence, it might help him not need to be
- 1:37:07Speaker 4: an obscurio. I was wondering why Arihanna had become one,
- 1:37:11Speaker 4: since she had two brothers and a mother and a
- 1:37:13Speaker 4: father who loved her someone I think Nicole in episode
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: twelve put forward the theory that while Credence became an
- 1:37:20Speaker 4: obscurial due to a long period of abuse and isolation,
- 1:37:24Speaker 4: that perhaps Arihana becoming an obscurial was due to trauma
- 1:37:27Speaker 4: induced by the attack. I feel better about this, not
- 1:37:31Speaker 4: because the attack was so very nasty to induce such trauma,
- 1:37:35Speaker 4: but because I no longer have to feel that Arianna's
- 1:37:38Speaker 4: family didn't love her. It also helps to explain her
- 1:37:41Speaker 4: father's attack on the Muggle Boys. If the attacked on
- 1:37:45Speaker 4: Arihanna was so very nasty and no, I don't think.
- 1:37:49Speaker 4: I don't want to think about just what they might
- 1:37:52Speaker 4: have done to her. I would rather that be unknown. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:38:04Speaker 4: it's also very interesting. So last, but not least, She
- 1:38:10Speaker 4: also says, I want to also want to mention that
- 1:38:13Speaker 4: when going to the ravelio website to verify the email address,
- 1:38:17Speaker 4: I discovered a couple of new names in the new
- 1:38:19Speaker 4: segment that I hadn't seen before. One of course, was
- 1:38:22Speaker 4: your report on the Epic Universe preview Center, which I
- 1:38:26Speaker 4: had also visited in December. It wasn't new to me,
- 1:38:30Speaker 4: although it was very well done. But the report on
- 1:38:33Speaker 4: the Tokyo Harry Potter Studio tour was great fun. I
- 1:38:36Speaker 4: am not sure if I will be traveling to Japan
- 1:38:38Speaker 4: in this lifetime, but if I do, I know one
- 1:38:41Speaker 4: place that will be on my list when I visit
- 1:38:44Speaker 4: same and even without going, the report was fun to read.
- 1:38:48Speaker 4: I was also inspired to read the bias about all
- 1:38:51Speaker 4: the team members. I seem to think there are more
- 1:38:54Speaker 4: now than when I first visited the site some months ago.
- 1:38:58Speaker 4: Many thanks for a fun website and many things for
- 1:39:02Speaker 4: your message, Jerry, thank you so much.
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: Yeah, so if you guys don't know listening, we do
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: have you know, our website where we do post some
- 1:39:15Speaker 3: articles that are written by us or our friends of
- 1:39:18Speaker 3: the podcast and so things that maybe you know, wouldn't
- 1:39:22Speaker 3: make sense for us to talk about in the podcast,
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: but we still want to share, so definitely check it out.
- 1:39:27Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: Yeah, and shout out to Lucy who wrote that article
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: about the Tokyo studio tour for us. She actually visited
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: both Tokyo and the London locations, so I was able
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: to do a sort of comparison between the two and
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: the offerings. So it's a very interesting read if you
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: get a chance.
- 1:39:49Speaker 2: Yes.
- 1:39:49Speaker 3: And also our website is just Rebellio podcast dot com.
- 1:39:53Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: So this episode's discussion question is do you think that
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: the prophecy played a role in Neville's character development? Why
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: or why not. We would love to hear from you,
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: so drop us an email at Revellio podcast staff at
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: gmail dot com, or you can reach us on social media.
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: You can find us on Facebook at Facebook dot com,
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: slash revelliocast on Twitter, or x at Revellio Underscore Podcast
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: on Instagram at Revellio podcast, and you can support the
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: show on Patreon at patreon dot com slash revellio podcast.
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: All right, so that concludes this episode. Like we mentioned
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: after Jerry's comment, you can find more from us over
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: at revellio podcast dot com and also our Patreon has
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: some extras on there as well, so definitely check that
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: out and maybe we'll continue doing some of these character discussions.
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: I think this was really.
- 1:40:56Speaker 2: Fun, so good. Yeah, I had a lot of fun.
- 1:40:58Speaker 3: I think this should be like this start of a series.
- 1:41:01Speaker 3: Maybe we can think of a fun name for it,
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: because we definitely have a lot of characters we can discuss,
- 1:41:07Speaker 3: and I think it would be fun to even, like,
- 1:41:11Speaker 3: you know, it's great to focus on, like you know,
- 1:41:15Speaker 3: these lesser known characters, but I think it would be
- 1:41:18Speaker 3: cool to talk about some of the main characters as well.
- 1:41:20Speaker 3: And we've got Fantastic Beasts as well, because we are
- 1:41:22Speaker 3: not limited to Harry Potter on this podcast. We are
