Transcript
- 0:03Speaker 1: Iranians in this country want to understand why there is
- 0:06Speaker 1: such a commitment to building a nuclear program, even saying
- 0:11Speaker 1: that it's an energy program, rather than helping people to
- 0:15Speaker 1: live better lives, have better water, better electricity, lower inflation,
- 0:21Speaker 1: all of these issues that they would like to perhaps
- 0:24Speaker 1: see be the priority. A better Iranian economy.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Of course, we seek a better economy America on a
- 0:33Speaker 2: daily basis increases sanctions. Well, there you have Iranian President
- 0:37Speaker 2: pezeshki In speaking with Martha McCallum after its twelve day
- 0:40Speaker 2: war with Israel. In new comments today, he seems to
- 0:43Speaker 2: push for an end to the conflict with the US,
- 0:46Speaker 2: saying quoting here, the war must end at some point.
- 0:50Speaker 2: It is better to end the war today when we
- 0:52Speaker 2: are in power and dignity in the whole world acknowledges
- 0:56Speaker 2: our victory. That according to state media as Remo, here's
- 1:01Speaker 2: the reality for some in Tehran.
- 1:05Speaker 3: People are struggling to make ends meet. They can't afford it.
- 1:09Speaker 3: They buy us. In my opinion, they really have no
- 1:11Speaker 3: other choice. It has to negotiate and somehow work things out.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Let's bring in retired for Star Air Force General Charles Wald,
- 1:19Speaker 2: former deputy commander of US European Command. He served more
- 1:22Speaker 2: than thirty five years in the military and flew combat
- 1:26Speaker 2: missions over the Middle Aged General, it's great to have
- 1:28Speaker 2: you on. It seems to me like you have the
- 1:30Speaker 2: Iranian President Pezeshkian looking for an off ramp, and yet
- 1:34Speaker 2: the IRGC wants to keep going. Where does that put us?
- 1:40Speaker 3: Well, I think it's where we've been for a while.
- 1:43Speaker 3: It's the go and back and forth, thinking that if
- 1:46Speaker 3: we punish them enough, they want to come to the
- 1:48Speaker 3: negotiating table, excuse me, and every time they do that,
- 1:52Speaker 3: of course, they reneg on their promises. So I think
- 1:56Speaker 3: we're seeing a couple of things. I think the IRG
- 2:01Speaker 3: has there back to the wall again. As I've said before.
- 2:05Speaker 3: Number two's I think there's an internal a serious internal
- 2:10Speaker 3: split in the leadership in Iran, the president versus the
- 2:14Speaker 3: IRGC leadership versus Iatola for that matter. So I think
- 2:20Speaker 3: we need to probably take any discussions we have with
- 2:24Speaker 3: the Iranians with a grain of salt. I've said this
- 2:27Speaker 3: before and I'll say it again. I think we need
- 2:30Speaker 3: to continue to make sure we keep the Iranian military
- 2:33Speaker 3: capability to threaten externally down as much as we can,
- 2:37Speaker 3: and certainly start opening up the straits of horror moves,
- 2:40Speaker 3: and we can talk about that, but I have ways
- 2:43Speaker 3: to say that. But I would not trust the Iranians
- 2:46Speaker 3: as far as I can throw them. Yeah, I mean,
- 2:48Speaker 3: you look at this.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Here's what the chief of staff of Iran's armed forces
- 2:52Speaker 2: said about Trump's threat of economic warfare. Goes on to say,
- 2:56Speaker 2: quoting with preparedness across land, sea, air, air defense in cyberspace,
- 3:01Speaker 2: Iran's armed forces will respond to the enemy's new threats
- 3:05Speaker 2: with crushing, punishing, and devastating responses. Does Iran think these
- 3:10Speaker 2: types of specious statements are going to make the president
- 3:14Speaker 2: just turn tail and run away? What's what's the thinking
- 3:17Speaker 2: here by, you know, by by fomenting this kind of
- 3:20Speaker 2: stuff with these types of statements.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Well, I'll give them some credit for, uh, the fact
- 3:27Speaker 3: that they understand what you're applying and that the United States,
- 3:31Speaker 3: the President certainly in the United States at large, is
- 3:34Speaker 3: not going to, you know, power to the rhetoric of
- 3:38Speaker 3: kind of bellicos from the Iranians based on no ability
- 3:42Speaker 3: to follow up with it.
- 3:43Speaker 2: There.
- 3:43Speaker 3: The message to me is for the Iranian people, I
- 3:46Speaker 3: really do firmly believe that, uh, the Iranian military leadership
- 3:51Speaker 3: I RGC and the government whatever that is, is really
- 3:57Speaker 3: concerned with population turning on. Obviously, when they had the
- 4:04Speaker 3: protest months ago in January and reportedly killed up forty
- 4:10Speaker 3: three thousand Iranian citizens, that is a deterrent from people protesting.
- 4:15Speaker 3: But if you look at the economic situation, the reports
- 4:19Speaker 3: that you've seen, and I've seen, it's been several sources
- 4:24Speaker 3: seventy percent inflation. I read an article today where a
- 4:28Speaker 3: lady reported in I Ran she went to buy some
- 4:31Speaker 3: simple groceries. It cost her eighty five million Real, which
- 4:35Speaker 3: is sixty five US dollars. It's amazing what their money
- 4:39Speaker 3: has become nothing, And so I think they're buying time.
- 4:43Speaker 3: I think they're talking big, but I think we have
- 4:47Speaker 3: to stick to our guns, so to speak, and be careful.
- 4:50Speaker 3: But I think we stick it out and we start
- 4:52Speaker 3: opening the straits, maybe for a six hour period every day,
- 4:56Speaker 3: Iran's going to crumble.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Yeah, General, great to have you on the show. Thank you,
