Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to frontline static we will get to hear interviews with
- 0:02some of my clients journeys of getting into flight and how they
- 0:05utilize coaching to help them create success of getting hired
- 0:08with less confusion and more ease.
- 0:10Make your dream a reality of getting into flight listen in as
- 0:12you hear some of the stories of the people getting there and
- 0:15come join the flight prep group. Hey, you guys, welcome to this
- 0:18week's episode of Frontline Static episode 139, Not marrying
- 0:23the first person you date. I know that this is kind of a
- 0:26controversial top or not topic, but title for this episode, but
- 0:33this is how I like to talk about dating a bunch of flight
- 0:37companies before deciding who you want to marry and settle
- 0:40down with when it comes to getting into flight.
- 0:43And so I just wanted to talk about this a little bit more
- 0:46today because this is a topic that I'm seeing come up.
- 0:49I'm having more and more people join the flight prep Academy who
- 0:51are at the three-year mark, 10 year mark, 15 year mark, 20 year
- 0:55mark, and 30 year mark of working critical care.
- 0:58And I always ask them, why haven't you applied for flight?
- 1:02And a lot of them since the timing experience is only three
- 1:06years to to be hired. And a lot of them say it's just
- 1:10simply because they didn't know where to start or because they
- 1:13were waiting for time and experience, or they were waiting
- 1:16to feel ready, or the biggest one is that they were just
- 1:20waiting for openings. And so I want to talk to a lot
- 1:23of you guys about this who are either at that point or who know
- 1:28that you want flight because I want to prevent you from waiting
- 1:32and spending more in time trying to feel like you have to get
- 1:36ready and just start going for this goal here in 2026.
- 1:40So I like to liken getting into flight to flight for a lot most
- 1:45people and for myself included, flight nursing was my end all be
- 1:50all. It was what I knew when I was in
- 1:52nursing school I wanted to do. And so it was my end goal.
- 1:55And when I think about my end goal, I think about marrying
- 1:59someone. And what I see a lot of people
- 2:01do is they wait till the three-year mark and then they
- 2:04just expect to marry the first flight company that says yes to
- 2:08them without thinking about on a whim, without thinking about
- 2:11what they want in that person or dating a bunch of companies.
- 2:14And so I'm going to talk to you about the importance of working
- 2:17towards this goal as soon as you know you want it today.
- 2:20And also just like not marrying the first person you date,
- 2:23dating and speed dating a bunch of people so that you get to
- 2:27decide who you want to marry. And what's great about this too.
- 2:30And thinking about this is often times with people want this goal
- 2:33so much that they're just willing to marry the first
- 2:35person and that wants to take them as a flight clinician.
- 2:40And I really want to offer you to start thinking about what is
- 2:42it that you want in a flight company and you want it to be a
- 2:45good match. This is your end all be all
- 2:48game. This is what you have always
- 2:50wanted. And so you want to make sure
- 2:51it's a good fit for you and you're not just doing it out of
- 2:53excitement. So, and this is a concept that
- 2:58that I call speed dating and I talk about highly inside my
- 3:01program. And if you've been working and
- 3:03follow and following me for a long time, this is what I talk
- 3:05about as far as dating a bunch of companies to see what's a
- 3:08good fit for you and if you're a good fit for their them.
- 3:11I talk about going out there and you want a date just like
- 3:15marrying someone to date a bunch of people while also deciding
- 3:18ahead of time what will be a good fit for you, right?
- 3:21You don't just go on a bunch of dates and be like, oh, let's
- 3:23just see what I like. I guess some people do, but most
- 3:27people are like, this is what I want in a partner.
- 3:30This is what I want in a spouse. This is what I want in someone
- 3:33that I'm dating. So it's really important for you
- 3:35to think ahead of time what it is that you value.
- 3:38What are you looking for in a company?
- 3:40And maybe you go out there and you start dating and you have an
- 3:44idea of what you want and then you start dating people and you
- 3:46figure out maybe that's not what I want.
- 3:48Maybe it's a little bit more of this and sometimes what you want
- 3:51changes. But this is what ride alongs and
- 3:54making connections is for because because you start to
- 3:58hopefully have a plan of what you think that you value when
- 4:01you want in a company. And then as you're doing these
- 4:04ride alongs and making connections, you're getting even
- 4:06more clear about what this is. So an example of this that has
- 4:13to do with not anything clinical is my husband is like no one
- 4:19else that I've ever dated prior. And I dated a lot of guys before
- 4:22I got married, and I thought I wanted a certain subset of a man
- 4:28that I wanted to marry. And then when I met him, he was
- 4:31just super funny and I loved the humor.
- 4:35I loved having laughter in my life.
- 4:37And it realized that it was something that I was missing in
- 4:40the previous people that I dated.
- 4:42And I realized that I wanted that in my spouse.
- 4:45And so that's an example of like really getting out there,
- 4:50meeting a bunch of companies, going to a lot of bases, doing
- 4:54the ride alongs base visits, outreach events, because this
- 4:57will give you an idea of maybe what you thought you wanted in a
- 5:00flight company, but maybe it's a little bit different.
- 5:02And then it's going to be you're going to be thinking about what
- 5:05is it that you value? Do you value education?
- 5:08Do you value teamwork? Do you value the culture of the
- 5:11team, the culture of the company?
- 5:14Do a value management and your supervisors and how what they
- 5:18value? Do you value pay?
- 5:21Do you value scheduling? All of those things you're going
- 5:24to get answered ahead of time while you're doing these ride
- 5:27alongs and you're making connections and you're going to
- 5:29find out what kind of specifies ultimately what you want out of
- 5:33a company doing ride alongs, making connections, doing base
- 5:37visits. It's what's going to teach you
- 5:39all of this stuff. Not only do you get to know
- 5:42them, but they get to know you and they also get to know you on
- 5:45a very, very relaxed personal level.
- 5:49What I see, and the common mistake I see people make is the
- 5:52very first interaction they have with the company is in a flight
- 5:55interview and you know, it's not relaxed.
- 5:58And it's like they didn't even know you before.
- 6:00And now all of a sudden they're asking you if you would be a
- 6:04good team member or if you would be a good spouse for them.
- 6:09And this is really why you want them to get to know you in a
- 6:14relaxed environment ahead of time, so that when you go into
- 6:17the flight interview, they're already bought into you.
- 6:19They already know you. And that's going to make such a
- 6:22difference for you before, during, and after the interview.
- 6:26You want to start doing these ride alongs as soon as nursing
- 6:28school. Actually, I have people who know
- 6:30that they want flight prior to getting into nursing school and
- 6:33they're doing ride alongs and prior to nursing school as well.
- 6:36You want to be doing about 6:00 to 8:00 a year.
- 6:38Whatever works with your schedule and your family life
- 6:42and your your job currently or while you're going to nursing
- 6:46school. It is no problem at all.
- 6:48I had someone in the group do six ride alongs in one month.
- 6:51Well, I highly don't recommend that.
- 6:52I do recommend doing 1 every other month.
- 6:55And I really teach you inside the flight Prep Academy how to
- 6:58ask for them and also how to prepare for them.
- 7:00And once you start doing them, you're going to find out if
- 7:02they're super easy to get and they're a lot of fun to do.
- 7:06This gives you an opportunity for them to see who you are,
- 7:11what you value, and the team player you are not in an intense
- 7:15environment in your first time meeting in a flight interview.
- 7:18And also at the same time, you get to see what they value, what
- 7:22their base and company culture is like and what kind of teams
- 7:25they are. You do not want to leave this to
- 7:28chance. It would be like, what is that
- 7:30dating show? Love is blind where I, I mean,
- 7:34I've never watched it, but I think the concept is like, you
- 7:37date someone in the darkness. You have no idea about them.
- 7:40You're just talking to them and then all the sudden you're at
- 7:41the altar marrying them. That's what I see people chance
- 7:45their flight job, their their biggest dream job too.
- 7:48And you don't want to be like that.
- 7:51So the biggest mistake that I see people make is waiting till
- 7:54they hit the three-year mark to start doing this and then expect
- 7:57to marry someone and get hired, by the way.
- 8:00But the reality is people have been doing this since nursing
- 8:03school and flight companies are wanting those people who've been
- 8:06doing it, who've invested the time and dating them and getting
- 8:09to know them. Plus one other thing that I hear
- 8:12people doing is waiting for openings.
- 8:14I hear people say, well, there has never been an opening or
- 8:17there's very few openings because people don't leave.
- 8:19And this is the worst thing that you can do because these
- 8:23openings are already spoken for by people who have been making
- 8:26connections and doing ride alongs and doing base visits
- 8:28with them. And it's just now a formality
- 8:31for the companies to post them. So when you're actually seeing
- 8:34that posting online, those spots have already been spoken for by
- 8:37someone. It's just a formality for them
- 8:40to actually post the requisition number.
- 8:42So I, I, plus I want you to imagine it feeling like again
- 8:48what it's like to have the company bought into you prior to
- 8:51walking into the interview. What would it feel like for you
- 8:54before, during and again after the interview?
- 8:57And lastly, I want to just mention I'm seeing like
- 9:01companies now move towards creating rosters, meaning if
- 9:04they really like someone who's been doing these ride alongs and
- 9:07making connections, they're bringing them to flight
- 9:09interviews sometimes early before the three-year mark.
- 9:11I've helped four people get hired at the 2 1/2 year mark in
- 9:14the last couple months. And so it's not just necessarily
- 9:17three years that they're looking at.
- 9:18They're definitely not looking at time and experience when they
- 9:20bring you into flight interview. And that's definitely what you
- 9:22don't want to be focusing on. So they're, what I'm seeing with
- 9:27these rosters is they're bringing candidates in that they
- 9:30really like to interview early ahead of time, even though
- 9:34there's not an opening. And then they're putting them on
- 9:36these rosters and they're telling them, hey, we're filling
- 9:39these rosters 6 to 18 months ahead of time.
- 9:42That way, when there is a opening, we're just going to
- 9:44pull from the roster and we'll give you an offer.
- 9:47And then that's often times afterwards you see the opening
- 9:51online, but those aren't really openings.
- 9:53Those are just people that they're filling from a roster
- 9:55that they've already created 6 to 18 months prior than that
- 9:58with people who've already interviewed.
- 10:00And it's interesting because I've seen more and more people
- 10:02as I've helped get hired and take through this process.
- 10:04They're telling me that they're asked to interview for a roster.
- 10:08So that changes up the the scene too.
- 10:13In trying to get hired in a flight, you want to be asked
- 10:15ahead of time to be put on these rosters and you want to be
- 10:18interviewing for these rosters. And again, I'm seeing people, I
- 10:22just helped someone get hired this last year at the one year
- 10:25mark. So I'm seeing them ask people at
- 10:27the one year, 2 year mark knowing that they're still
- 10:29working critical care, but getting them on that roster and
- 10:32interviewing them early. Biggest thing is you want to be
- 10:35ready for these flight interviews and in these flight
- 10:37interviews, they are not wanting to hear about your time and
- 10:40experience at all. So come join the flight Prep
- 10:42Academy. I'm going to teach you exactly
- 10:44what to focus on for the flight interviews and ASM.
- 10:47You can now see why and how waiting actually puts you at the
- 10:51bottom of the list or way far behind and ever being
- 10:54considered. And so I really felt like I
- 10:56wanted to talk about this this week because more and more
- 10:58people are coming to me or telling me that they're going to
- 11:01wait or I Ioffer for them to get started and have them come join
- 11:05the flight prep Academy and we'll get them on track.
- 11:07And they tell me why I got to wait till I meet the time and
- 11:09experience. And I just wanted to make a
- 11:12podcast about this so that you guys know that this is putting
- 11:15you further and further behind. And there are people that are
- 11:18doing these now way ahead of time.
- 11:21I am actually going to be covering all of this way in more
- 11:24depth on my next free training. It's going to be next Monday.
- 11:27If you're listening to this, my podcast episode dropped on
- 11:29Thursday, but it's going to be next Monday, January 12th at new
- 11:32Pacific Standard Time. I'm going to post the link in to
- 11:35sign up for the free training and the podcast caption.
- 11:39But I'm going to be talking about this specifically.
- 11:42What are three simple steps to focus on to get you in a flight?
- 11:45And you can start this at any time of your journey, whether
- 11:47you're pre nursing school, nursing school, not working
- 11:50critical care, currently we're in critical care or at
- 11:52three-year mark. And I want to let you know if
- 11:55you are listening to this and you're at the 2 1/2 year mark,
- 11:58that's kind of when I start telling people you need to start
- 12:00prepping for flight interviews because you can get hired at the
- 12:022 1/2, three-year mark. If you're there and you haven't
- 12:05done any of these things yet, don't fret.
- 12:08Come and join me inside the flight prep Academy.
- 12:11I'm going to teach you exactly what to be focusing on so that
- 12:14you are not spinning and you are taking the focus action that
- 12:19flight companies are looking for.
- 12:21And I'm really going to prep you for the flight interviews.
- 12:24And if you know flight nursing is what you want, I just want to
- 12:27invite you and I hope that this episode invited you to start
- 12:30taking action on it now. Not tomorrow, not next month,
- 12:33not when you feel, quote UN quote ready because you never
- 12:36will. In the seven years I flew, I
- 12:37never felt ready for every call. Not when you're at the
- 12:40three-year mark, but now. So again, come join the flight
- 12:44Prep Academy. I'm going to teach you exactly
- 12:46how to get started. We'll map out your plan.
- 12:48I'll teach you how to land your first ride along anywhere in the
- 12:51US this month. And let's make 2026 the year you
- 12:54finally start moving towards this goal confidently and
- 12:57clearly. And if you're at the 2 1/2 or
- 12:59more year mark, let's get you hired in the next couple months.
- 13:02Most people who come and join me inside my program at that amount
- 13:05of time get hired within the within the few months of
- 13:07joining. And I know you guys are really
- 13:10focused on getting an offer, but I'm really more concerned with
- 13:14helping you confidently transition into the role after
- 13:17your offer. I just saw a lot of people get
- 13:19hired and then not do well in orientation.
- 13:22And so that's a really big important part of it.
- 13:24We're a little over 100 people strong inside my program right
- 13:28now and there's about 30 flight nurses and flight paramedics in
- 13:31there. So you were going to get 24/7
- 13:33support with weekly calls and a member portal with a five step
- 13:36process and everything I'm talking about here.
- 13:39So that's it for this week. I hope this encourage you guys
- 13:43to get started now and start taking action.
- 13:47If this is what you've known you've always wanted, don't
- 13:50wait, do it now. Get yourself a net right along
- 13:54seat. Get yourself in that helicopter
- 13:55seat. Start having some fun and
- 13:57working towards that goal this year.
- 13:59OK, that's it you guys, I'll see you next week.
- 14:02Bye. If anything in this episode
- 14:03sparked your interest into getting into flight, come join
- 14:06my flight flight group. We are an entire community that
- 14:09meets together on a weekly basis with an ongoing group chat.
