- 0:00Speaker 1: We do check ins every morning and people let us
- 0:02Speaker 1: know what they're up to. But sometimes they do things like, hey,
- 0:05Speaker 1: I got an idea for an ex pole for you.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Adam had this idea.
- 0:09Speaker 1: And Adam said he had made some homemade biscuits and
- 0:13Speaker 1: gravy before he left for work, and said, I think
- 0:17Speaker 1: that biscuits and gravy are the king of comfort food.
- 0:20Speaker 1: But maybe we should put it out to you. It's
- 0:23Speaker 1: an ex pole.
- 0:24Speaker 2: What's the king of comfort food for you? You know
- 0:27Speaker 2: you're when you're really Maybe it's a pint ice cream.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I don't know. I was thinking about it a second ago.
- 0:33Speaker 2: For me, it's casserole. Casserole any kind of a cast
- 0:37Speaker 2: role because it's warm and it's full of stuff. There's
- 0:41Speaker 2: all kinds of stuff.
- 0:42Speaker 1: I mean, one of mine, and you guys were giving me.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Crap about it.
- 0:45Speaker 1: By the way, we're on Thursday and I still haven't
- 0:48Speaker 1: gone through this whole sleeve of ritz crackers. There's still
- 0:51Speaker 1: about a third of them left.
- 0:53Speaker 2: You. You are such a brave girl.
- 0:55Speaker 3: Why was I under the impression you were doing a
- 0:56Speaker 3: sleeve a day? I thought you were normally because.
- 1:01Speaker 1: I can well, you know, it's a simple thing, but
- 1:06Speaker 1: a ritz cracker is a comfort food to me.
- 1:09Speaker 3: I don't know, I don't know why.
- 1:11Speaker 1: I mean now, my go to answer, of course is
- 1:14Speaker 1: chicken fried steak. That's my my go to one. But
- 1:17Speaker 1: just for a grab a simple thing, rich cracker eight.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Seven seven six two nine six nine six. What's your
- 1:26Speaker 2: comfort food? A text?
- 1:27Speaker 3: My comfort is something maybe only Bill would like, milk toast.
- 1:32Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 1:33Speaker 3: I grew up with homemade honey wheat bread and every
- 1:35Speaker 3: Sunday morning it's a recession food.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Yeah. Ye, when my grandmother used to make it. You
- 1:41Speaker 2: use stale toast, like toast that didn't get eaten, which
- 1:45Speaker 2: it would be buttered. She would just put it in
- 1:46Speaker 2: a container and let it get stale, and then on
- 1:50Speaker 2: Sundays we have warm milk and break that toast up
- 1:53Speaker 2: into the warm milk.
- 1:54Speaker 3: Here we just started, and we've already gotten two separate
- 1:56Speaker 3: texts saying grilled cheese and tomato soup.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Yeah, that's it's a good one. Uh. Let's see, got
- 2:02Speaker 2: line one there.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Let me get this interface up here so we can
- 2:07Speaker 3: get going.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Mike and Nashville. Here is it is that? Yours is
- 2:10Speaker 2: the same thing, isn't it? Mike?
- 2:12Speaker 4: Yes?
- 2:13Speaker 2: It is.
- 2:13Speaker 5: You have grilled cheese tomato soup. Not not the campbells,
- 2:17Speaker 5: not the just the bland tomato soup. It's got like
- 2:20Speaker 5: a nice progress though, like a hearty tomato soup, grocy sandwich, well,
- 2:25Speaker 5: sweet gerkin pickles on the side.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I like a cream of tomato soup. And I made uh,
- 2:32Speaker 2: I made grilled cheese and ham sandwiches last week with
- 2:36Speaker 2: tomato soup. That was really good. Thanks.
- 2:41Speaker 3: All right, let's go on to uh let's see Perry
- 2:44Speaker 3: City listener.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Hello, Hello, good morning. Yeah, what's your favorite comfort food?
- 2:51Speaker 2: So this takes me back to when I was a
- 2:53Speaker 2: kid and I spend the night at my grandma's house.
- 2:55Speaker 6: She'd always make twitty so with scrambled eggs.
- 2:57Speaker 7: ESA scrambled eggs.
- 3:00Speaker 2: That just throws me back to you mix you mix
- 3:02Speaker 2: the TOTRIESO up in the scrambled eggs. Oh got how
- 3:05Speaker 2: you do it?
- 3:06Speaker 6: Yep?
- 3:06Speaker 2: Yep.
- 3:07Speaker 7: You cut the first and then the.
- 3:09Speaker 2: Eggs on, yeah, and scramble them up and then you
- 3:12Speaker 2: just yeah, any cheese, any cheese in the scrambled eggs.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Occasionally, see I would, I'd put a chunk of elvida
- 3:19Speaker 3: in there.
- 3:21Speaker 2: You should make it healthy if you're gonna do it. Yeah,
- 3:23Speaker 2: you know, let's go. Thank you, Perry said you listener,
- 3:26Speaker 2: let's not mess around here, kids. So we got.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Fried chicken and mashed potatoes. We got chicken pot pie.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Yeah, chicken pud pie. We got Jeremy is here. Hey, Jeremy,
- 3:36Speaker 2: what's your comfort food?
- 3:39Speaker 8: I just gotta be mac and cheese or even rice pudding?
- 3:43Speaker 3: Rice pudding, right, I haven't had a good rice pudding
- 3:45Speaker 3: since Cassine closed.
- 3:46Speaker 2: You know why you haven't had a good rice pudding.
- 3:48Speaker 3: There's no such thing rice pudding, Jeremy.
- 3:52Speaker 2: When you do your mac and cheese, do you like
- 3:54Speaker 2: the creamy mac and cheese or do you like it
- 3:56Speaker 2: sort of a little dryer and it's got crunchy, you know,
- 3:59Speaker 2: like breadcrumbs on top of it.
- 4:03Speaker 8: Honestly, any mac and cheese is just delicious.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Any so you.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Want see if we're talking mac and cheese to me, uh,
- 4:14Speaker 3: for comfort food, it's simply the box of craft mac
- 4:18Speaker 3: and it's barely a food.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, I can't.
- 4:22Speaker 3: It's it's it's food adjacent, that's how you know. But boy,
- 4:25Speaker 3: just you know when you're when you're craving.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Thanks Jeremy, let's go to Jennifer. Hi, Jennifer, Jennifer. What's
- 4:34Speaker 2: your comfort food?
- 4:37Speaker 9: My mom's chili?
- 4:38Speaker 2: Now, is it chili con carne or just chili with beans?
- 4:42Speaker 9: No, it's meat and bean homine. Yeah.
- 4:46Speaker 2: And then what do you do? You break up some
- 4:48Speaker 2: soda crackers into that.
- 4:51Speaker 9: So my mom used to put butter on her crackers,
- 4:55Speaker 9: but I put the crackers in the cheese and the chili.
- 4:58Speaker 2: Yeah, there you go. There you that's good saltines. Yep,
- 5:02Speaker 2: all right, thank you.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Let's go to Charles.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Oh, Charles, Hello, good morning, good morning. Where are you
- 5:10Speaker 2: calling from? Charles, Salt Lake City, Utah? Your comfort food?
- 5:14Speaker 2: My good sir.
- 5:17Speaker 8: I'm with Carrie. I could go on all day. There
- 5:19Speaker 8: are a hundred of them. But the king is going
- 5:22Speaker 8: to be chicken, fried steak, mashed potatoes, and the whole
- 5:26Speaker 8: thing smothered in country gravy.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Country gravy. Okay, yeah, if you're gonna do it, you
- 5:30Speaker 2: mean so country gravy is the white gravy with bits
- 5:33Speaker 2: of sausages, is that right?
- 5:35Speaker 8: And lots of pepper?
- 5:36Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah? And do you make that yourself or do
- 5:38Speaker 2: you go out for it?
- 5:42Speaker 8: Generally go out for it. But it's hit and miss.
- 5:44Speaker 8: So if I really need to do it right, I
- 5:45Speaker 8: do it at home.
- 5:46Speaker 1: You want it, you want a good one, you go
- 5:47Speaker 1: to the Prairie Schooner and you eat it in a
- 5:49Speaker 1: covered wagon in Ogden.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Well, well, people are shooting at you with bows and arrows.
- 5:56Speaker 3: It's a great experience. Thank you, Charles, Thank you our
- 6:01Speaker 3: attorney ed brass chili eranos from La Cazuelas in Taylorsville. Yeah,
- 6:08Speaker 3: let's see pancakes and chocolate sauce.
- 6:11Speaker 2: That sounds good.
- 6:13Speaker 3: Let's see chicken thigh bikes in cream of bushroom soup?
- 6:19Speaker 2: Is it bites? Is what I mean?
- 6:21Speaker 3: Voice to text?
- 6:22Speaker 2: Is not your friend?
- 6:23Speaker 3: Chicken thigh bites in cream of bushroom soup over white
- 6:26Speaker 3: sticky rice or meat loaf and baked potatoes.
- 6:30Speaker 2: And somebody wants to know if we figured out what
- 6:31Speaker 2: happened with a country gravy burritos at Maverick. Apparently some
- 6:35Speaker 2: locations still have them. You just have to look around.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Getting conflicting stories on that. Shrimp and grits, cheesy grits.
- 6:44Speaker 3: All right, Let's see bread milk and onion milk. What
- 6:51Speaker 3: it is is when you take bread better if it's homemade.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Break it up into a bowl, pour milk over it
- 6:56Speaker 3: like a bowl of cereal. Okay, where's the what's going again?
- 7:01Speaker 2: Voice to text, folks, I don't it's uh you know,
- 7:03Speaker 2: my grandmother also used to do that. She white bread.
- 7:07Speaker 2: You tear it up, put it in a bowl, put
- 7:09Speaker 2: cold milk on it, and then sprinkle it with sugar.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Yeah, my dad used to do that.
- 7:13Speaker 2: All right, let's go to Uh, hey, Nick, how are
- 7:18Speaker 2: you doing? Make or nick?
- 7:19Speaker 8: I don't know?
- 7:22Speaker 2: Okay, okay, so your your favorite is what?
- 7:26Speaker 3: I'm a big.
- 7:27Speaker 9: Fan of loaded mashed potatoes.
- 7:29Speaker 2: What do you load them with?
- 7:31Speaker 6: Cheese, bacon? Sometimes?
- 7:35Speaker 5: You know, I'll throw in some veggies in there to
- 7:37Speaker 5: balance it out.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Sounds good? All right, yeah, see you later, Thank you
- 7:43Speaker 2: very much.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Let's see, uh, French fries, yes, fresh warm cinnamon rolls up.
- 7:50Speaker 3: I'm surprised it took this long. Funeral potatoes. Does that
- 7:54Speaker 3: go with the cast?
- 7:56Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 7:56Speaker 2: I count that as a cast.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Funeral potatoes with crushed up corn flake topping.
- 8:00Speaker 9: Ye.
- 8:01Speaker 3: Wait a minute, gummy bears an iced tea sounds horrible.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Let's see, I'm with Bill.
- 8:09Speaker 3: My mom's chicken broccoli casserole specifically.
- 8:13Speaker 2: I just love casseroles.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Nothing nutritional about it, but it reminds me.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Somebody says, both my mom and dad worked. My dad
- 8:21Speaker 1: had Wednesdays off, so every Wednesday he'd start a pot
- 8:23Speaker 1: roast first thing in the morning and it would cook
- 8:25Speaker 1: all day.
- 8:26Speaker 3: That's a melty cheesy, of course, is a grilled cheese,
- 8:31Speaker 3: but with extra butter and almost too much sharp cheddar.
- 8:34Speaker 3: No soup, just the melted cheese. Oh KFC. Mashed potatoes
- 8:40Speaker 3: and gravy specific, I mean very specific. Mashed potatoes is
- 8:45Speaker 3: coming up an awful lot on everybody's lists.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I love them. They're delicious.
- 8:50Speaker 1: I mean they're the homemade ones are best. But sometimes
- 8:53Speaker 1: even just the cheap box of mashed potatoes if you're
- 8:56Speaker 1: really craven mashed potato.
- 8:58Speaker 2: Can't do it. Mashed potatoes chunky are just totally smooth.
- 9:02Speaker 2: It depends.
- 9:03Speaker 3: I'll eat them both.
- 9:04Speaker 2: I like the little chunks in them. Uh leo, hey, leo, hey, hey,
- 9:09Speaker 2: where are you calling from?
- 9:12Speaker 8: Right now? I'm driving your hairman?
- 9:13Speaker 2: All right, what's your comfort food?
- 9:16Speaker 5: I'd say my favorite comfort food is chicken out breado,
- 9:19Speaker 5: especially if you have like chicken cod and pesto.
- 9:23Speaker 8: That's like really good.
- 9:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Do you do you make it or do you go
- 9:26Speaker 2: out for it?
- 9:28Speaker 8: Uh? The way my mom makes it is really really good.
- 9:31Speaker 2: So you go to mom's house.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Okay, you know my kids can never say that that's true.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Like my comfort food is the way my mom makes
- 9:39Speaker 1: this thing.
- 9:39Speaker 4: That's not.
- 9:42Speaker 2: My my favorite comfort food. This is my mom's taking
- 9:46Speaker 2: us to olive Garden. All right, Well, the lines are full.
- 9:50Speaker 3: What's he's your full? We got a lot of texts
- 9:52Speaker 3: coming in. Probably gonna have to throw this one to
- 9:54Speaker 3: social media. Winston, Hello, Winston.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Winston, good morning. Where are you calling from?

- 10:08Speaker 5: My personal favorite is I like chicken breasts smoked on
- 10:12Speaker 5: the trigger.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Uh huh, okay, those are good. And then it's just,
- 10:16Speaker 2: you know, you gotta have something with the potatoes or
- 10:18Speaker 2: anything with that.
- 10:19Speaker 1: What do you like with it?
- 10:21Speaker 5: Not really? I like just having a plane. I like
- 10:24Speaker 5: having different kinds of seasoning.
- 10:26Speaker 2: I guess. Okay, all right, there you go. That's great,
- 10:29Speaker 2: thank you. Let's go to woodworker Willie. Hello, what's your
- 10:34Speaker 2: favorite food?
- 10:36Speaker 6: So I was the one that said bread, milk and onions. Yeah,
- 10:39Speaker 6: when we were little, my mom, I mean, I grew
- 10:41Speaker 6: up on homemade bread. He started us with bread, milk
- 10:44Speaker 6: with honey. But the best part is take an onion,
- 10:47Speaker 6: you slice a quarter it, throw it on a plate,
- 10:50Speaker 6: drench it vinegar and salt, and throw a big chunk
- 10:52Speaker 6: of that on each spoonful.
- 10:53Speaker 7: It's delicious.
- 10:55Speaker 2: What throw it on?
- 10:59Speaker 9: What?
- 10:59Speaker 2: Throw it? Chuck of it on?
- 11:00Speaker 3: What on the milk and the bread?

- 13:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, all right, yeah, I think I kind
- 13:19Speaker 2: of agree with you on that. I like that the

- 13:53Speaker 7: even the grill. But also I guess I was introduced
- 13:55Speaker 7: to it in Mexico City, where they've got carts that
- 13:57Speaker 7: go up and down the street.
- 14:00Speaker 2: So you so you grill, you grill or fire cook
- 14:04Speaker 2: a yam, and then what you put on it, you
- 14:07Speaker 2: put butter, butter or anything or just just playing.
- 14:10Speaker 7: I like it with butter when people put brown sugar
- 14:13Speaker 7: or something.
- 14:14Speaker 4: Yeah, I like it with butter. You gotta.
- 14:15Speaker 7: I like it when it's overcook because it gets really
- 14:17Speaker 7: caramelized delicious.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Yeah, but it's better on a fire or a grill
- 14:22Speaker 2: rather than in the oven.
- 14:23Speaker 7: Of absolutely, yeah, think about it.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Think about this kind of s'mores, but with yams. Instead
- 14:30Speaker 3: of Graham cracks. M think about it, chocolate marshmallow in there,

- 14:57Speaker 2: with bacon.
- 14:59Speaker 9: But yeah, the faces from bacon, they can make everything better.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Well, that's true. I try that, I try. Thank you absolutely,

- 15:19Speaker 4: You could cut them, put butter in them and just
- 15:22Speaker 4: save them. And then when we were camping, Dad would
- 15:25Speaker 4: make pias in the Dutch oven with real lard, real lord,
- 15:32Speaker 4: and there you go, real lord and jam and uh
- 15:36Speaker 4: and butter.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Yep. When you when you know how to make tortillas,
- 15:41Speaker 2: when you're good at it, you can you can just
- 15:43Speaker 2: whip them out really fast, too, can't you.

- 16:20Speaker 2: A frozen burrito, just.
- 16:22Speaker 3: Just like your beef and beef and bean from seven
- 16:24Speaker 3: to eleven kind of thing.
- 16:26Speaker 9: Yeah, just like the El Monterey ones.
- 16:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and with peanut butter.
- 16:30Speaker 9: Ye yeah, with peanut butter.

- 16:57Speaker 10: a slice of garden tomato on it.

- 17:03Speaker 2: that I even I haven't done it for years, but
- 17:06Speaker 2: I used to even like the stuff out of the can.
- 17:09Speaker 2: I'd get it out of the can, but I would
- 17:11Speaker 2: do that to it. I would sort of make it
- 17:12Speaker 2: into patties and fry it in a pan and get
- 17:15Speaker 2: it crispy.
- 17:16Speaker 8: And really I don't know how to do the crispy
- 17:19Speaker 8: because I can't do it.

- 17:45Speaker 3: of cream cheese in the middle and some corn chips.

- 17:50Speaker 2: father in law was from the South drinks an ROC
- 17:53Speaker 2: Coca Cola an RC and he puts like a handful
- 17:56Speaker 2: of maybe five or six peanuts in it.

- 18:29Speaker 3: soup with mashed potatoes. There like sofferent you.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Have chicken chicken noodle soup and mashed potatoes together, just

- 18:54Speaker 2: I mean, and I balked at first, but then I
- 18:56Speaker 2: tried it. Now it doesn't sound terrible to me, but
- 18:59Speaker 2: I can't quite picture it.
- 19:01Speaker 1: I just like, instead of gravy, it's chicken noodle soup.
