- 0:05Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the right time. A wave original.
- 0:09Speaker 1: My name is Beaumont Jones. Thanks for listening wherever you
- 0:11Speaker 1: get your podcast. Thanks for watching us on YouTube. Subscribe, like,
- 0:15Speaker 1: rate us, review us, give us five stars. You only
- 0:17Speaker 1: give us four stars. I'm inclined to believe you are
- 0:20Speaker 1: a hater. We got a lot of interesting quarterback talk
- 0:23Speaker 1: to get to here. Also some news for you, but
- 0:28Speaker 1: you know, During Sundays, Ryan and I send texts to
- 0:32Speaker 1: each other. We try to figure out what it is
- 0:34Speaker 1: that we're going to do for the show, when it
- 0:36Speaker 1: is that we might record the show, and just kind
- 0:39Speaker 1: of general topics. Because again, we did not really get
- 0:41Speaker 1: a murderer's roll of a slate this week. But we're
- 0:45Speaker 1: thinking about it. We're going to figure out what we're
- 0:47Speaker 1: going to do. And then one thing I was thinking
- 0:48Speaker 1: of saying was, it doesn't feel this season like there
- 0:53Speaker 1: are any truly excellent teams. We have said that we
- 0:58Speaker 1: believe the Chiefs will be excellent at the end of
- 1:01Speaker 1: the year, for example. The Lions, at times, are beginning
- 1:05Speaker 1: to look like the team they were last year when
- 1:07Speaker 1: they were an excellent team, but we haven't seen the
- 1:10Speaker 1: actual excellence from these teams. I watched the Colts play
- 1:13Speaker 1: this morning, and I'm more certain than ever that that
- 1:15Speaker 1: is not an excellent team. They won some games. Shout
- 1:19Speaker 1: out to Jonathan Taylor. Hey, man, he's going to be
- 1:22Speaker 1: the official player of this show, the most underrated football
- 1:25Speaker 1: player of all time. But anyway, Then the 4 o'clock
- 1:30Speaker 1: slate of games was played, and I don't know about
- 1:33Speaker 1: you guys, but I saw a couple of excellent teams.
- 1:38Speaker 1: That would be the Los Angeles Rams and the Seattle Seahawks. Ryan,
- 1:45Speaker 1: what am I supposed to do about Sam Darnold? But
- 1:48Speaker 1: I saw Sam Darnold throw a pick, and I saw
- 1:51Speaker 1: Sam Darnold fumble, and I was like, see, that's the
- 1:53Speaker 1: shit I be talking about. They scored 44 points in
- 1:56Speaker 1: that game.
- 1:56Speaker 2: They had 44 points, and they got up 28-0 for
- 1:59Speaker 2: the second week in a row.
- 2:01Speaker 3: Yes.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Let me tell you this, too. Remember when we were
- 2:03Speaker 1: talking earlier this week and last week? Me and Dominique
- 2:06Speaker 1: were kind of like, hey, man, this Jacoby Percent thing
- 2:08Speaker 1: has been cool, but let's not lose our minds about this.
- 2:11Speaker 1: They ate his ass up. Like, I mean, Seattle looks excellent.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Right.
- 2:17Speaker 1: And they look excellent, and Sam Darnold looks excellent. He does.
- 2:24Speaker 1: I can't. He looks excellent. You see it. You see it, right?
- 2:30Speaker 1: You hear me fighting it. But I'm not going to
- 2:32Speaker 1: do that right now. Just going to give him credit
- 2:35Speaker 1: for what he's doing. Way to go, buddy.
- 2:39Speaker 2: And then the Rams.
- 2:41Speaker 1: The 49ers brought that game back to being like a
- 2:44Speaker 1: one-score game in the second half, but the Rams went
- 2:47Speaker 1: up 21-0. And no matter how that game ended, I
- 2:50Speaker 1: came away from that game feeling very much certain that
- 2:53Speaker 1: those two teams are of different classes. You know what
- 2:57Speaker 1: I mean?
- 2:57Speaker 3: Like.
- 2:58Speaker 1: If you look at the numbers with the 49ers, their
- 3:01Speaker 1: record has seemed to be better than them all year long.
- 3:05Speaker 1: The point differential indicates that sort of thing. You go
- 3:07Speaker 1: to numbers like DVOA, it indicates that also. The Rams
- 3:11Speaker 1: went out there and were just handling them early. Handling them.
- 3:16Speaker 1: And then there's the whole... I don't really understand how
- 3:20Speaker 1: it is that Matthew Stafford has continued to get better.
- 3:24Speaker 1: And he's year 17 version... Hey, didn't he need a
- 3:29Speaker 1: bacchiotomy during the preseason or something like that? Don't you
- 3:32Speaker 1: remember that? Well, we was like, I don't know what's
- 3:34Speaker 1: going to happen here.
- 3:34Speaker 2: Did a big old van outside. Like, I mean, maybe
- 3:39Speaker 2: that was just an excuse to skip training camp because
- 3:41Speaker 2: he had.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Yeah, but it was like, yeah, I don't know if
- 3:43Speaker 1: I can really do this. And we were like, hey,
- 3:44Speaker 1: it's a real bad sign. Matthew Stafford hasn't played all preseason.
- 3:47Speaker 1: He looked like the goddamn MVP.
- 3:49Speaker 3: Right.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Like, but they are good, man. They are where we're
- 3:55Speaker 1: looking at this. So this division, right? Because I didn't
- 3:57Speaker 1: think the 49ers looked bad in that game, by the way.
- 3:59Speaker 2: No, they just have so many injuries on defense. They're
- 4:03Speaker 2: out of answers.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Right, but even with that, I just felt like they
- 4:06Speaker 1: ran up against something bigger than them.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Right.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I mean, look, they lost by 16 points. But still,
- 4:11Speaker 1: I just felt like they ran up into a team
- 4:13Speaker 1: that is better than them. Is it possible that the
- 4:17Speaker 1: three best teams in that conference are in that division? Again,
- 4:20Speaker 1: I don't think the 49ers are necessarily that high, but
- 4:22Speaker 1: you know the Lions... somebody always heard over there we
- 4:25Speaker 1: don't understand exactly what's going on with the packers uh
- 4:29Speaker 1: the eagles right the eagles i mean the eagles got
- 4:32Speaker 1: the game monday night right um you know and so
- 4:35Speaker 1: that's going to be its own watching what happens with
- 4:37Speaker 1: their oh it's eagles packers we will walk away from
- 4:39Speaker 1: that game knowing nothing correct right two questions what happens
- 4:43Speaker 1: are two question marks get into a fight right it's
- 4:46Speaker 1: gonna look like the soviet union shit you know what
- 4:48Speaker 1: i'm But I definitely at this point think the 49ers
- 4:54Speaker 1: and the Seahawks are probably– are they the two best
- 4:57Speaker 1: teams in the NFL?
- 4:57Speaker 2: The Rams and the Seahawks.
- 4:59Speaker 3: Yes.
- 4:59Speaker 1: I'm sorry. Yes, the Rams. Are they the two best
- 5:01Speaker 1: teams in the NFL?
- 5:03Speaker 2: They're close. I mean, the thing that impressed me about
- 5:06Speaker 2: the Rams is that's the way Sean McVay wants to play.
- 5:11Speaker 2: He wants to run the ball.
- 5:13Speaker 3: Yes.
- 5:13Speaker 2: And when that team– the year they first got to
- 5:16Speaker 2: the Super Bowl, that was behind Todd Gurley. And setting
- 5:20Speaker 2: up all that play action. But they're running the ball
- 5:23Speaker 2: extremely well. And then Devontae Adams was just a steal
- 5:26Speaker 2: in the offseason.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Yes.
- 5:28Speaker 1: I will also, although he left, he had to go
- 5:31Speaker 1: in the back during the second half of that game.
- 5:33Speaker 1: One thing I appreciate about McVay, when McVay made the
- 5:36Speaker 1: golf decision, right? By the way, a trade that apparently
- 5:39Speaker 1: has worked out for everybody.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Yeah, the rare QB for QB trade that works out forever.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Though you could make the argument for Stafford if you
- 5:46Speaker 1: had just stuck around a little while longer. You could
- 5:48Speaker 1: be leading America's team to glory that they had never,
- 5:50Speaker 1: ever achieved previous to that. Get yourself a statue in
- 5:53Speaker 1: town in Detroit. Instead, you wanted to go to the
- 5:56Speaker 1: good weather. They always want to go to the good weather.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I give McVay the credit for being the guy that's like, yeah,
- 6:03Speaker 1: I am the quarterback whispering genius, but you know, I
- 6:05Speaker 1: sure would like a guy that could throw the ball
- 6:07Speaker 1: through the wall. How about that?
- 6:09Speaker 4: Right.
- 6:10Speaker 1: I got as far as I could with this pretty good.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Let me go get something great. Like will Kyle Shanahan
- 6:15Speaker 1: ever get to the place where he does that? You
- 6:18Speaker 1: know what I mean? Like McVay, I feel like humbled
- 6:21Speaker 1: himself in a way that Shanahan had. Shanahan had tried
- 6:24Speaker 1: to with the Trey Lance thing and he gave that
- 6:26Speaker 1: shit a year and a half. And he was like, no, no,
- 6:31Speaker 1: get me a Kyle Shanahan. Love him a six. Love, love, love.
- 6:36Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, give me a six. In fact, think
- 6:39Speaker 1: about I hadn't thought about this. Is it possible, Ryan,
- 6:41Speaker 1: that Kyle Shanahan made the wrong decision when he let
- 6:44Speaker 1: Sam Darnold go?
- 6:46Speaker 2: I forgot that he was there in that backup for
- 6:48Speaker 2: that year.
- 6:49Speaker 1: He gave it another try, but he was just like.
- 6:51Speaker 2: Nah, nah. Can't do it.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Nah, because then we walk in the room and they're
- 6:56Speaker 1: always looking at her. You know what I'm saying? It's
- 6:59Speaker 1: just always got to be about you, huh? Is that
- 7:01Speaker 1: what it's got to be?
- 7:02Speaker 2: The scheme, huh?
- 7:03Speaker 1: Is that what it is? I have no idea if
- 7:05Speaker 1: any of these things are true. I do know this.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Every really talented quarterback I've seen Kyle Shanahan get, it
- 7:11Speaker 1: has not worked.
- 7:12Speaker 2: At some point, if you have, you know, if you
- 7:14Speaker 2: have multiple, you know, you date three sixes in a row,
- 7:18Speaker 2: it becomes a pattern of behavior.
- 7:19Speaker 1: He's one of those, like those coaches that can only
- 7:22Speaker 1: coach try-hards. Right. But you give them a team of
- 7:24Speaker 1: five stars, and they're like, I don't know. You got
- 7:27Speaker 1: Dale Brown. Unless you legend. That is a great, he'll
- 7:31Speaker 1: go to the Final Four with Hot Plate Williams and
- 7:33Speaker 1: a bunch of dudes that you've never heard of. Give
- 7:35Speaker 1: them Shaq, Chris Jackson, and Stanley Roberts. What is the
- 7:38Speaker 1: Sweet 16? I've never heard of that place before.
- 7:41Speaker 4: Yeah, God.
- 7:43Speaker 2: That's a sore spot I forgot existed.
- 7:47Speaker 1: You're even too young for that sore spot to exist.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm too young to watch it, but I got
- 7:50Speaker 2: mad for reliving it.
- 7:51Speaker 1: You're just thinking about it. Now that you have a
- 7:54Speaker 1: concept of the idea. But no, those seem to be
- 7:57Speaker 1: the guys, man. This is It's going to be really
- 8:00Speaker 1: interesting to see how this season closes, because, look, I
- 8:02Speaker 1: am not a believer that parity is a good thing.
- 8:04Speaker 1: I want to have a Goliath and that everybody try
- 8:07Speaker 1: to run up all of them. And then if somebody
- 8:08Speaker 1: get Goliath out of there, then we can have parity.
- 8:11Speaker 1: It looked like we might have a couple of them.
- 8:13Speaker 1: It looked like it might be a division situation where
- 8:15Speaker 1: they're geared up to face each other at the end.
- 8:17Speaker 1: I'm not sure. I look forward to it, though. But
- 8:20Speaker 1: it is good to feel like we actually have a
- 8:22Speaker 1: couple of great teams. All right, so this is an
- 8:31Speaker 1: interesting week of quarterback play. There's so much to think about, really.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I was just going through just looking at how quarterbacks
- 8:38Speaker 1: were playing, like the young quarterbacks, the established quarterbacks. I
- 8:43Speaker 1: did not think that he looked particularly good on Sunday.
- 8:47Speaker 1: He didn't look bad, but, you know, Matt Corkle, Matt
- 8:50Speaker 1: Jones was just out there nickel and diamond. Like, that
- 8:52Speaker 1: was not.
- 8:55Speaker 1: A great quarterback coach figures out a way to do
- 8:57Speaker 1: something that isn't just throwing the ball to the dude
- 8:59Speaker 1: seven yards away. You know what I mean? That's all
- 9:01Speaker 1: I'm saying. Like, I'm not saying he played badly and
- 9:03Speaker 1: he was very, very accurate. That point being there, but
- 9:07Speaker 1: really wasn't making a whole lot happen. That being said,
- 9:11Speaker 1: we're in year five for that 2021 class of quarterbacks,
- 9:14Speaker 1: which is one of the weirdest classes that there's ever been.
- 9:17Speaker 1: But at this point in the year of our Lord, 2025,
- 9:23Speaker 1: Matt Jones is playing better than all of them, right?
- 9:26Speaker 1: Better than Trevor Lawrence, better than Justin Fields. Trey Lance
- 9:29Speaker 1: doesn't even get to play. Zach Wilson doesn't even get
- 9:32Speaker 1: to play. He, at the very least, has looked really
- 9:38Speaker 1: good this year.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Justin Fields plays, but it's, you know.
- 9:41Speaker 3: I forgot.
- 9:42Speaker 2: It's a hit or miss. I knew there was one,
- 9:44Speaker 2: but yeah, he's still playing.
- 9:47Speaker 1: To be fair, he played for the Jets.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Yeah, correct.
- 9:50Speaker 4: Yeah, no.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Hey, didn't they win the game?
- 9:55Speaker 2: They did win the game, but they were playing the Browns.
- 9:59Speaker 1: It's kind of like half the Big Ten.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Somebody's got to get themselves a W. My man said
- 10:06Speaker 1: that the Browns fans are starting to call Dylan Gabriel
- 10:09Speaker 1: Groundhog Gabriel. I'm assuming that that is a reference. To
- 10:12Speaker 1: how small he is. Oh, goodness, Ryan. 6'4, 11 for
- 10:16Speaker 1: 54 yards with a touchdown and a pick. That was
- 10:19Speaker 1: Justin Fields.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Yeah, we might be doing Shadur next week.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Let me tell you something. Here's my question about that.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Would Kevin Stefanski rather get fired or play Shadur Sanchez?
- 10:32Speaker 2: We're going to find out in the next 24 hours.
- 10:34Speaker 2: They're going to tell him and he's going to say,
- 10:37Speaker 2: we're going to find out. That's Tuesday's lead.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:41Speaker 1: I mean, so, I mean, but this is the trick
- 10:42Speaker 1: back for them, right? To be fair to him about that.
- 10:45Speaker 1: If you go to your door, you have no other
- 10:48Speaker 1: play to make. And I suppose that with a very
- 10:51Speaker 1: young quarterback like Gabriel, you can go back to him.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Cause like, how dare he, you know what I'm saying?
- 10:56Speaker 1: Like what room does he have to say anything about it?
- 10:59Speaker 1: But it's still really absurd that they're at a place
- 11:01Speaker 1: now where it's just like, Hey man, We have nothing
- 11:03Speaker 1: else that we can do. This is it. And so
- 11:07Speaker 1: once you push this door button, at once you better
- 11:11Speaker 1: hope he balls. But on the other hand, if he does,
- 11:16Speaker 1: that's not a good look either. So basically, why don't
- 11:20Speaker 1: they just go ahead and fire that man right now?
- 11:23Speaker 1: I just realized I completely talked myself into the idea
- 11:26Speaker 1: that he's out of there. But no, looked at Mac
- 11:28Speaker 1: Jones and thought, who would have believed at any point
- 11:34Speaker 1: before these guys got to the league, while they've been
- 11:38Speaker 1: in the league, all the way to now, that that
- 11:40Speaker 1: class would be five years in. And Mack Jones, who
- 11:43Speaker 1: none of us actually know if he's actually good, but
- 11:47Speaker 1: he better than the rest of them, or at least
- 11:48Speaker 1: he's playing better than the rest of them. And I
- 11:52Speaker 1: don't feel like Trevor Lawrence is currently in one of
- 11:54Speaker 1: those situations where you could just be like, everything has
- 11:56Speaker 1: gone wrong around him. You know what I mean? Like
- 11:59Speaker 1: there's enough for him to be all right. And yeah,
- 12:03Speaker 1: you know, But let's talk about these young guys. All right.
- 12:07Speaker 1: A very interesting matchup with the Giants of New York
- 12:12Speaker 1: against the Bears of Chicago. I turned that on, watched
- 12:16Speaker 1: a little bit of that. Well, at first I had
- 12:18Speaker 1: been watching New England and Tampa Bay. And hey, obviously
- 12:25Speaker 1: there's room for things to change. And that's part of
- 12:27Speaker 1: what we're discussing here. But Ryan, I think I'll be
- 12:30Speaker 1: shocked if Drake May does not turn out to be
- 12:33Speaker 1: the guy out of that 2024 draft.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Right.
- 12:36Speaker 2: I mean, like, I mean, he's they've won seven games
- 12:38Speaker 2: in a row. He's the favorite to win MVP right now.
- 12:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:41Speaker 1: I mean, look, what's his name? Jane Dan was going
- 12:43Speaker 1: to get knocked around.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Right.
- 12:45Speaker 4: Right.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Like he was excellent last year. Don't want to pretend
- 12:48Speaker 1: like he wasn't. But which of those two do I
- 12:50Speaker 1: think is more talented? Um, I'm going with May and
- 12:54Speaker 1: this game against Tampa was interesting because, you know, we
- 12:56Speaker 1: had talked about this. New England had been beaten up bulbs.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Like they didn't have a win to hold their hat,
- 13:00Speaker 1: hang their hat on. And to be fair, Tampa Bay,
- 13:03Speaker 1: you know, looks about the same. I looked at DVO way.
- 13:06Speaker 1: They were right next to each other going into the week, um,
- 13:08Speaker 1: in their rankings, but no, no, no. New England has
- 13:12Speaker 1: a guy. Like, it's not just the numbers. It's the
- 13:16Speaker 1: way that he's doing it.
- 13:17Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Oh, they got a guy.
- 13:18Speaker 2: And you go all the way back. I mean, this
- 13:19Speaker 2: is the guy that Alabama was trying to throw the
- 13:22Speaker 2: bag at, transfer. Like, this is, it was him and
- 13:24Speaker 2: Kale Williams coming in and Jayden Daniels obviously has that amazing,
- 13:29Speaker 2: you know, 2023 year. But Drake, you know, athletic pedigree and,
- 13:35Speaker 2: you know, like, there's no yada, yada, yada winning seven
- 13:38Speaker 2: games in a row.
- 13:39Speaker 1: No, no, no, no, no, no.
- 13:39Speaker 2: When your best weapon is old Stephon Diggs.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Well, it's seven wins in a row, and he's doing it. Like,
- 13:48Speaker 1: this is not, for example, Ben Roethlisberger as a rookie,
- 13:51Speaker 1: when they won, it may have been like 14 games
- 13:53Speaker 1: in a row. I can't remember how many, but they
- 13:54Speaker 1: had a crazy run while he was there. And he
- 13:57Speaker 1: was a bit of a passenger, right? Like, he was,
- 14:00Speaker 1: Drake May is not a passenger. Now, granted, they also
- 14:02Speaker 1: got 150 yards on the ground from Henderson. So I
- 14:05Speaker 1: don't want to pretend as though nobody else is doing anything,
- 14:08Speaker 1: but no, watching him play, Versus even watching Daniels play,
- 14:13Speaker 1: and I think that a lot of that has to
- 14:14Speaker 1: do with May passes the eye test in a different
- 14:18Speaker 1: way just because he is so much bigger and so
- 14:22Speaker 1: much sturdier.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Right.
- 14:24Speaker 2: We think of these quarterbacks as tall and thick, right?
- 14:28Speaker 4: Yes.
- 14:28Speaker 2: And then you still have a little bit of the
- 14:32Speaker 2: mobility with May.
- 14:33Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:33Speaker 1: Well, let me also tell you this. If I were
- 14:36Speaker 1: trying to make the case that racism was over, Just
- 14:39Speaker 1: throw it out there. I was trying to make it.
- 14:42Speaker 1: The idea that Caleb Williams is clocking in at about 6'2,
- 14:45Speaker 1: and Jane Daniels can fit my clothes, but Drake May
- 14:49Speaker 1: went number three. Good exhibit. What you gonna say to
- 14:56Speaker 1: me now? You're not gonna be able to do it.
- 15:00Speaker 1: You're not gonna be able to do it. He looks
- 15:04Speaker 1: like that guy, and we've talked a lot about um
- 15:11Speaker 1: yeah i talked about this a little early in the
- 15:12Speaker 1: show but we talked a lot about how you know
- 15:14Speaker 1: the chiefs have won the division 157 times in a
- 15:16Speaker 1: row is this the year they lose their grip and
- 15:18Speaker 1: now the question comes up about buffalo and the question
- 15:21Speaker 1: comes up about buffalo in part because of drake may
- 15:23Speaker 1: and the other part by the way buffalo was just
- 15:24Speaker 1: lost to miami where we've been firing their coach every
- 15:28Speaker 1: week for like two months now um They didn't just
- 15:32Speaker 1: lose to Miami. They kind of got trounced. And Josh
- 15:36Speaker 1: Allen was looking like old Josh Allen, like the Josh
- 15:38Speaker 1: Allen that used to fumble. I thought they had gotten
- 15:41Speaker 1: over that. The Josh Allen that throws the ball away. Like, Ryan,
- 15:45Speaker 1: I don't know how much you've got a chance to
- 15:46Speaker 1: watch them, but I don't have a great handle on
- 15:48Speaker 1: why it is that they are. They just got to
- 15:50Speaker 1: look like a team. Now, granted, they won their Super
- 15:53Speaker 1: Bowl last week against the Chiefs. So maybe we should
- 15:56Speaker 1: have just written this down.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Right. It's weird because you look at the weapons that
- 16:01Speaker 2: Josh Allen has. We were talking about this before. So
- 16:03Speaker 2: James Cook is an elite running back. And then it's
- 16:06Speaker 2: a lot of dudes out there. It's a lot of
- 16:09Speaker 2: Keon Coleman. It's a lot of Dalton Kincaid. There's not
- 16:12Speaker 2: a go-to, like, got-to-have-it receiver in that group.
- 16:17Speaker 1: I just want to throw this out there. He out
- 16:19Speaker 1: there throwing a ball to Dalton, Dawson, and Jackson. And
- 16:24Speaker 1: those are those guys' first names. Every single one of them,
- 16:30Speaker 1: that's a first name. And I am pretty sure that
- 16:32Speaker 1: they are all, let me check on these Jackson Hawes.
- 16:34Speaker 1: That's right. All tight ends. Right. Tight ends and quarterbacks.
- 16:38Speaker 1: So the double last name situation, everywhere you look. But yeah,
- 16:43Speaker 1: I'm looking right at that listing and I'm just, by
- 16:45Speaker 1: the way, I don't really know how that trend like
- 16:52Speaker 1: really got started. And I know how it goes sometimes, right?
- 16:55Speaker 1: Where like you name the kid, the mother's maiden name
- 17:00Speaker 1: which often happens in situations where like that's a family
- 17:04Speaker 1: that only had daughters so the family name was not
- 17:07Speaker 1: going to go anywhere and so you just send it
- 17:09Speaker 1: over you know what i mean like that's what you
- 17:11Speaker 1: do when you name the kids or whatever but i
- 17:12Speaker 1: gotta be honest with you when i see last name
- 17:15Speaker 1: last name i think of two things ryan kappa alpha order.
- 17:24Speaker 2: As Sigma Alpha Epsilon.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Yes, yes.
- 17:27Speaker 1: Now, black people, you may be wondering what that means.
- 17:31Speaker 1: So you know how as black people you only find
- 17:33Speaker 1: out about fraternities when they do something messed up and racist?
- 17:37Speaker 1: You've heard of these before.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. A lot of famous alums.
- 17:41Speaker 1: It's come up.
- 17:42Speaker 3: Shocking.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Shocking.
- 17:43Speaker 1: By the way, Phil Jackson. Pete Carroll. What? Both SAE. Wait, that's...
- 17:51Speaker 1: I don't even understand that. You don't go to this school.
- 17:54Speaker 2: No, I don't.
- 17:55Speaker 1: You're not even from around there.
- 17:57Speaker 2: I mean, the fair, the other one's a little bit worse.
- 18:00Speaker 3: That is fair.
- 18:01Speaker 2: But that's surprising.
- 18:03Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's a lot going on there. It's
- 18:05Speaker 1: a lot going on.
- 18:06Speaker 3: But anyway.
- 18:06Speaker 2: I was about to say it was a long time ago,
- 18:09Speaker 2: but I don't know if that makes it worse or better.
- 18:11Speaker 2: I don't either.
- 18:12Speaker 1: But they're asking Josh Allen to throw the ball to Dalton, Dawson,
- 18:14Speaker 1: and Jackson. all I'm saying, and he's not doing a
- 18:19Speaker 1: great job of it. And I say that he's not
- 18:21Speaker 1: doing a great job of it because, to be honest,
- 18:23Speaker 1: that's what they've been asking him to do for the
- 18:25Speaker 1: better part of the last two or three years.
- 18:27Speaker 3: Right?
- 18:28Speaker 1: But he's not looking like MVP Josh Allen. I think
- 18:34Speaker 1: that we would all agree upon that. But I want
- 18:37Speaker 1: to get back right fast to the young quarterbacks because
- 18:39Speaker 1: I realize I did not talk about the young quarterback
- 18:41Speaker 1: I wanted to talk about.
- 18:42Speaker 5: Hey, man.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Well, two of them. Giants... Giants... Bears. There we go.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Right.
- 18:48Speaker 1: I realized that I had completely forgotten that I brought
- 18:51Speaker 1: that up in the first place. Like that was we
- 18:53Speaker 1: don't we don't have I don't have that. I don't
- 18:56Speaker 1: have them for letters. You know what I'm saying? But
- 18:57Speaker 1: I feel like I did a great impression of him
- 18:59Speaker 1: right there. My bad. Anyway, Jackson Dart looks good. Let
- 19:04Speaker 1: me tell you something about Brian Daybold that I find
- 19:06Speaker 1: to be interesting. I think that Brian Daybold is the
- 19:08Speaker 1: Bill Belichick of his day in the sense that he
- 19:10Speaker 1: has figured out a market inefficiency as it relates to
- 19:14Speaker 1: racism that he could exploit in football. And his is
- 19:17Speaker 1: where Bill Belichick figured out I can get these white
- 19:19Speaker 1: receivers for cheap. Brian Daybold is like, it'll be years
- 19:23Speaker 1: before they realize this white boy can run.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Four rushing touchdowns in five games.
- 19:28Speaker 1: He did it with Josh Allen. Right. He did it
- 19:30Speaker 1: with Daniel Jones.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Right.
- 19:32Speaker 1: By the way, he did a terrible job coaching Jalen
- 19:35Speaker 1: Hurts at Alabama. Right. For whatever it's worth. But he
- 19:39Speaker 1: has figured out they'll never suspect the thing. You get
- 19:42Speaker 1: that white boy to ball and let him run. Nobody
- 19:45Speaker 1: ever sees. Maybe that's why he got Dalton, Dawson and
- 19:47Speaker 1: Jackson out there, because they faster than anybody thinks. Like,
- 19:51Speaker 1: everything he's doing, he's just gaslighting y'all. It's just mind games.
- 19:54Speaker 1: But anyway, they be having Jackson Dart out there running. And, hey,
- 19:58Speaker 1: I got questions about him. He's got a little title
- 20:02Speaker 1: of hero to him. You understand what I'm saying? Like,
- 20:06Speaker 1: I'll just throw this out there, okay? And you let
- 20:08Speaker 1: me know if this is an inappropriate point to make.
- 20:10Speaker 1: And I looked this up after I saw Jackson Dart
- 20:13Speaker 1: score a touchdown and then simulate shooting craps in the
- 20:17Speaker 1: end zone. And not with the fellas, just by himself, okay?
- 20:21Speaker 1: He is from Kaysville, Utah. He is a member of
- 20:25Speaker 1: the Church of Jesus Christ for Latter-day Saints, and Latter-day Saints,
- 20:29Speaker 1: but he did not go on a mission.
- 20:33Speaker 2: He didn't?
- 20:34Speaker 1: He did not.
- 20:36Speaker 2: You don't count the two years at USC saving people.
- 20:40Speaker 1: In Los Angeles? I didn't know that that was an option,
- 20:44Speaker 1: by the way.
- 20:46Speaker 2: I'm good.
- 20:46Speaker 1: I didn't know that. But I try to figure out, look,
- 20:49Speaker 1: I know he played ball at Ole Miss, but come on, baby,
- 20:51Speaker 1: it's Ole Miss.
- 20:52Speaker 4: Right.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Where did he pick this up? Like all of this,
- 20:58Speaker 1: I don't really understand it. Maybe he a little salty.
- 21:00Speaker 1: They keep trying to pair him with Scataboo, but he
- 21:02Speaker 1: really want to be like Malik Nabors is really the homie, right?
- 21:05Speaker 2: Yeah, both those guys aren't out there right now.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 21:07Speaker 1: But maybe that's the game. I don't know. But he
- 21:09Speaker 1: got a personality thing I don't know. But Brian Daybold
- 21:11Speaker 1: is like, trust me, kid. They'll never know you can run. Anyway.
- 21:15Speaker 1: This time when he ran, they banged his head against
- 21:18Speaker 1: the ground real hard and he had to go into
- 21:21Speaker 1: the blue tent. But luckily this time, Brian Daybold did
- 21:25Speaker 1: not himself run into the blue tent to see what
- 21:28Speaker 1: was going on because he was so terrified of putting
- 21:30Speaker 1: Russell Wilson in the game. Now, it was a bad
- 21:33Speaker 1: look when he went into the tent just to not
- 21:35Speaker 1: put Russell Wilson in the game. But if you watch
- 21:38Speaker 1: the Giants and the Bears, you understand why Brian Dayball
- 21:41Speaker 1: went back there and was like, how many of my
- 21:44Speaker 1: two fingers am I holding up?
- 21:46Speaker 3: Two?
- 21:46Speaker 1: Cool. Come on, let's go. Because, nah, it wasn't a
- 21:53Speaker 1: good look for Russell Wilson. Now, Giants were up in
- 21:56Speaker 1: that game and I turned to it, and all I
- 22:00Speaker 1: saw was stats at first, and Caleb Williams' numbers did
- 22:02Speaker 1: not look good. And then I watched a few plays,
- 22:05Speaker 1: and he did not look good. And then I listened
- 22:07Speaker 1: on the broadcast, and they were talking about the rate
- 22:09Speaker 1: of pressure that he was under. And I was like, okay,
- 22:12Speaker 1: mitigating factor. And they came back and won that game.
- 22:15Speaker 1: And yes, part of that, again, is that the Giants
- 22:18Speaker 1: lost their quarterback. But I feel like if you're a
- 22:21Speaker 1: Bears fan, that had to be a really encouraging performance.
- 22:28Speaker 1: He made some big throws in terms of like big arm,
- 22:31Speaker 1: big talent throws. But the biggest thing to me in
- 22:33Speaker 1: watching that was, man, they was on his ass and
- 22:36Speaker 1: he was finding ways to make it happen. Like I
- 22:39Speaker 1: do realize in the way that I look at football
- 22:42Speaker 1: or really all sports, really, but in football, I guess
- 22:44Speaker 1: it comes up more particularly that the older I get
- 22:46Speaker 1: and the more that I watch in this, like that
- 22:49Speaker 1: grit stuff. it's not the be all end all. It
- 22:51Speaker 1: doesn't like always the determinant factor, but there's something to it.
- 22:55Speaker 1: And we've heard a lot about how this young man
- 22:57Speaker 1: may be a bit immature and the way that he
- 22:59Speaker 1: has handled things as has been a less than professional
- 23:02Speaker 1: at points. But that was a grown man performance there.
- 23:06Speaker 1: And his guys were letting him down. Like his guys
- 23:09Speaker 1: are dropping passes. His guys are not blocking. He's making
- 23:13Speaker 1: big runs. He's getting outside the pocket and making big throws.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Like that was that second half for Caleb Williams was,
- 23:19Speaker 1: And they're six and three now?
- 23:21Speaker 2: They're six and three. And we've seen a lot of
- 23:23Speaker 2: times that quarterbacks get hit so much.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Yes.
- 23:26Speaker 2: You know, they essentially get out of the league, right?
- 23:30Speaker 2: And Kent Williams got sacked, I think it was 68
- 23:32Speaker 2: times last year or something.
- 23:34Speaker 3: Yes.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Sir number. And the fact that he stayed in there
- 23:36Speaker 2: and making those throws is impressive.
- 23:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Now, look, you know my thing. Sacks are a quarterback stat. Like,
- 23:42Speaker 1: if you allow sacks– if you are sacked a lot
- 23:45Speaker 1: as a quarterback– Those numbers stay pretty consistent for most guys.
- 23:49Speaker 1: The lines can change. The team can change and everything else.
- 23:51Speaker 1: But that sack rate, generally speaking, stays around the same.
- 23:57Speaker 1: That hasn't happened with Caleb Williams. Like Ryan told you,
- 24:00Speaker 1: he got sacked 68 times last year. Coming into the
- 24:04Speaker 1: game this week in eight games, he got sacked four.
- 24:05Speaker 1: He had been sacked 14 times. He has clearly improved there.
- 24:09Speaker 1: The team is playing well. There's still questions to be
- 24:13Speaker 1: asked about him. But Hey man, I think something worth
- 24:19Speaker 1: considering when it comes to anybody that gets drafted number
- 24:24Speaker 1: one in any of those spaces where you start talking
- 24:26Speaker 1: about bust, not bust, dah, dah, dah. It is always
- 24:31Speaker 1: tempting to look at somebody that has taken number one
- 24:33Speaker 1: and viewing them entirely in comparison with who else you
- 24:38Speaker 1: could have taken. To me, the outlook that keeps everything
- 24:42Speaker 1: most reasonable is, As long as you got somebody good,
- 24:47Speaker 1: you did okay. Now, maybe you could have gotten somebody better,
- 24:51Speaker 1: but as long as you got somebody good, you did okay. Now,
- 24:54Speaker 1: of course, there are levels to this, right? If you're
- 24:55Speaker 1: the Houston Rockets and you get Akeem Olajuwon, you don't
- 24:58Speaker 1: trip that much about Michael Jordan. But when you get
- 25:01Speaker 1: Sam Bowie, you trip because, you know, you got nothing.
- 25:05Speaker 1: You feel me? If the Bears got a good quarterback
- 25:11Speaker 1: who can be their quarterback for however long, it doesn't
- 25:13Speaker 1: matter how good the other guys are. Did you get
- 25:15Speaker 1: yourself a starting quarterback? And if you got a starting quarterback,
- 25:19Speaker 1: bless you guys. Very, very important for you. And right now,
- 25:24Speaker 1: you may not have one, but it looks like you
- 25:26Speaker 1: might have one. And, you know, who knows? One day,
- 25:31Speaker 1: maybe he'll turn out to be as good as Sam Darnold.
- 25:37Speaker 1: And it looks like Matthew Stafford might be the MVP
- 25:41Speaker 1: after 17 years. This shit is weird, man. Ryan, we
- 25:51Speaker 1: got DraftKings pick six for the people.

- 28:17Speaker 2: All right, Beau, let's get to some other stories from
- 28:25Speaker 2: the weekend. Weird news with Donald Trump. He showed up
- 28:29Speaker 2: during the Lions-Commanders games, started doing some play-by-play, and it
- 28:33Speaker 2: turns out Adam Schefter's reporting that he wants the Washington
- 28:37Speaker 2: Commanders to name their new stadium they're building after him.
- 28:41Speaker 2: White House source said there have been back channel communications
- 28:44Speaker 2: with Commander's Ownership Group led by Jess Harris to express
- 28:48Speaker 2: Trump's desire to have the Dome Stadium in the nation's
- 28:51Speaker 2: capital bear his name. Bo, your thoughts?
- 28:54Speaker 1: I just want to throw this out here, too, because
- 28:56Speaker 1: Ryan left this out. I don't know if Trump is
- 29:01Speaker 1: courageous or simply oblivious, but just throwing it out here.
- 29:06Speaker 1: You guys have any idea what the number one employer is?
- 29:10Speaker 1: Who the number one employee is in Washington, D.C.? You
- 29:12Speaker 1: want to just take a guess? The federal government. Have
- 29:18Speaker 1: you talked to any of your friends who work for
- 29:20Speaker 1: the federal government? They are not a good time right now.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Have you talked to anyone who tried to get on
- 29:26Speaker 2: a plane this weekend? Yeah, yeah.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Not a good time. And Donald Trump stood before those people,
- 29:33Speaker 1: and he read some proclamation or something to them, and
- 29:36Speaker 1: they was booing him, man. Like, that wasn't incredibly risky move.
- 29:41Speaker 1: I don't know what was on his mind when he
- 29:44Speaker 1: decided to do that. The same as I don't know
- 29:46Speaker 1: what's on his mind where he wants the stadium named
- 29:48Speaker 1: after him. And this is the reason why I'm saying that.
- 29:52Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of the stadiums that are named
- 29:57Speaker 1: after politicians. And I can only think of two. RFK
- 30:03Speaker 1: Stadium in Washington, where they're looking to build a new stadium.
- 30:07Speaker 1: And if I'm not mistaken, Philly has the John F.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Kennedy Stadium.
- 30:12Speaker 2: I'd have to look that up, but I think that's
- 30:14Speaker 2: the case.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Yeah. What did they have to do to get stadiums
- 30:21Speaker 1: named after them? I would not want a stadium named
- 30:24Speaker 1: after me is all I'm saying, right? They don't do
- 30:29Speaker 1: that just because they like you, okay? When they name
- 30:31Speaker 1: a stadium after you, somebody going to be in the
- 30:34Speaker 1: first game wearing an armband. You don't want the stadium
- 30:37Speaker 1: named after you, brother. I'm just telling you that right now.
- 30:41Speaker 2: And this is, you know, just such a bizarre situation.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Him coming on to, like, you're just texting me watching
- 30:48Speaker 2: the Lions game. It's like, uh, so by the way,
- 30:51Speaker 2: Trump's on the call.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Yeah, then he texted me and was like, something about Fox.
- 30:56Speaker 1: I'm like, what are you talking about? He's like, Trump
- 30:58Speaker 1: is in the booth. I'm like, what you mean Trump
- 30:59Speaker 1: is in the booth? I turn it over. Trump is
- 31:02Speaker 1: in the booth. He's on the, he called a play.
- 31:05Speaker 2: I just can only imagine. being those two guys and
- 31:10Speaker 2: being like, Oh, Trump's coming. Cool. Trump's coming during the game. Okay.
- 31:16Speaker 2: Trump's going during the third quarter.
- 31:19Speaker 1: In live action.
- 31:21Speaker 3: Yeah. Right.
- 31:22Speaker 1: On one hand, that sounds like a production nightmare. On
- 31:25Speaker 1: the other hand, somebody at Fox is like, Hey, we
- 31:28Speaker 1: get the, we get through every morning with Terry Bradshaw.
- 31:32Speaker 1: You guys can get through one drive with Donald Trump.
- 31:36Speaker 3: All right.
- 31:36Speaker 2: We're going to drastically shift gears here. Uh, OutKast was
- 31:40Speaker 2: inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday. Obviously,
- 31:44Speaker 2: that's a group that has had a big impact on
- 31:47Speaker 2: your life. What was it like for you seeing them
- 31:49Speaker 2: inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?
- 31:51Speaker 1: You know, I've stopped looking for validation from these sorts
- 31:53Speaker 1: of institutions and operations, but I always will look back
- 31:56Speaker 1: to when they won the best album Grammy for Speaker
- 31:59Speaker 1: Boss Love Below. And it was just absurd that that
- 32:01Speaker 1: was even possible. Right. That was that was the thing
- 32:05Speaker 1: that got me was that it was just absurd that
- 32:07Speaker 1: it was even possible. that such a thing like that
- 32:10Speaker 1: could happen. I will say this, though. They deserve better
- 32:14Speaker 1: than Doja Cat. And it's not because Doja Cat is
- 32:17Speaker 1: not talented. She just clearly does not have a real
- 32:20Speaker 1: investment in this act, right? Like, the idea... Tribute performances
- 32:27Speaker 1: like those should not simply be just putting together the
- 32:31Speaker 1: coolest group of people that you can. You know what
- 32:33Speaker 1: I mean? Like, I feel like this should be.
- 32:35Speaker 2: The most famous group of people who's available.
- 32:37Speaker 1: Right.
- 32:37Speaker 4: So.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Here's a hot take that people would not expect from me.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Me and my buddy Jay Adande had talked about this,
- 32:43Speaker 1: and I hadn't thought about it until he said it, right?
- 32:45Speaker 1: Everybody loves the Prince While My Guitar Gently Weeps performance
- 32:49Speaker 1: from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2004.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Here's the thing. That was the George Harrison tribute performance.
- 32:54Speaker 1: George Harrison had died, okay? It was a lot of
- 32:58Speaker 1: George Harrison people. George Harrison's son is there. Tom Petty,
- 33:02Speaker 1: his fellow Wilbury, he's up there. I think Steve Winwood's
- 33:06Speaker 1: playing in the band. But, you know, it was very
- 33:07Speaker 1: heavily loaded, you know, his contemporaries who are there okay
- 33:12Speaker 1: and i don't want to pretend as though george harris's
- 33:14Speaker 1: son did not enjoy the prince performance however let me
- 33:19Speaker 1: tell you who didn't give a good goddamn about george
- 33:21Speaker 1: harrison in that moment he wasn't thinking about george this
- 33:26Speaker 1: is a this is a tribute performance to a dead
- 33:29Speaker 1: man he threw his guitar up in the air and
- 33:31Speaker 1: walked off the stage.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Some people are not built to memorialize others.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Well, I think he can memorialize some people, but that
- 33:47Speaker 1: was not, he completely forgot that that's what this was about.
- 33:52Speaker 1: That's all I'm saying. He completely forgot. And I kind
- 33:55Speaker 1: of felt that with Doja Cat, right? But she's not Prince. Correct.
- 33:58Speaker 3: Right?
- 33:59Speaker 1: It's just like, yo, why are you here? Like, what
- 34:01Speaker 1: are you, Tyler, the creator? Okay, cool. You know, I
- 34:05Speaker 1: can see that. You seem like the sort of guy
- 34:06Speaker 1: that would have been into them. But nah, man, it's just,
- 34:11Speaker 1: They are the greatest rap group of all time. As
- 34:13Speaker 1: far as groups go, I don't think a group has
- 34:15Speaker 1: emerged in any genre since they came up. That is
- 34:17Speaker 1: as good as them. And my favorite thing is we
- 34:20Speaker 1: all seem to understand and agree upon that. And if
- 34:22Speaker 1: you disagree, take that shit somewhere else because I don't
- 34:25Speaker 1: want to hear it.
- 34:27Speaker 2: All right. Let's move over to the NBA. Derek White
- 34:30Speaker 2: told an interesting story on his podcast about Joe Mazzulla.
- 34:35Speaker 2: It goes like this. Quote, so it was me and
- 34:37Speaker 2: Peyton Pritchard and we're going and Joe's like, play the music.
- 34:41Speaker 2: White recalls, next thing you know, it's just machine guns
- 34:43Speaker 2: going off. And I'm like, what is going on? So
- 34:45Speaker 2: the entire time we did this drill, the machine guns
- 34:48Speaker 2: just were just nonstop. That's how we started practice. He's like,
- 34:51Speaker 2: play the music. And the next thing you know, we're
- 34:53Speaker 2: in a war zone. What was your reaction to hearing this?
- 34:58Speaker 1: My favorite coach. That's easy.
- 35:02Speaker 2: I love him.
- 35:03Speaker 1: I don't understand him at all. Why would you do that?
- 35:10Speaker 2: That reminds me of the clip where he was on Julie,
- 35:13Speaker 2: I sent this to you, where he was on Julie
- 35:15Speaker 2: Nettleman's podcast and said, like, instead of escape rooms, he
- 35:18Speaker 2: wants to do like hostage negotiations.
- 35:20Speaker 3: Yes, yes.
- 35:22Speaker 1: But my question with that plate of music, who all
- 35:26Speaker 1: knew that was coming? Did like, did his, did the
- 35:29Speaker 1: assistants know that he was going to do that? Like,
- 35:31Speaker 1: does he sit in with the assistants like, I have
- 35:34Speaker 1: an idea. We're going to play gunfire during practice today
- 35:38Speaker 1: so that they know that it's a war.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Right?
- 35:40Speaker 1: Like, like, like do other, what is it like to
- 35:43Speaker 1: him to be your boss? Like it's one thing for
- 35:45Speaker 1: him to be your coach. What is it like for
- 35:47Speaker 1: him to be your boss? Like if you're the secretary
- 35:49Speaker 1: or you're an assistant coach, you're the trainer, how does
- 35:52Speaker 1: he deal with those people?
- 35:54Speaker 2: I like the idea that this is a person who
- 35:57Speaker 2: does in somewhere between 80 and a hundred of high
- 36:01Speaker 2: leverage moments every day. That's his whole job. Not to
- 36:04Speaker 2: mention the other, you know, 50 hours a week he's
- 36:07Speaker 2: doing preparing for those high leverage moments. And he's like, eh,
- 36:10Speaker 2: this isn't really, you know, scratch the itch I need.
- 36:14Speaker 2: You know, this regular season doesn't really jack me up
- 36:18Speaker 2: the way I need to. I need to hear live
- 36:19Speaker 2: fire just to like really get my heart racing.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Not just like gunfire and then a rap music song
- 36:25Speaker 1: start playing. You know what I'm saying? Nope, nope, nope.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Just gunshot.
- 36:29Speaker 2: I mean, that's like, you know, like if you can
- 36:32Speaker 2: make a shot, you know, when guns are going off,
- 36:34Speaker 2: you'll make a shot when there's noise.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Then you can catch a wrench.
- 36:37Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 36:38Speaker 1: You can dodge a wrench. You can dodge a ball.
- 36:40Speaker 2: Yeah, that's his logic taken to the Joe Mazzulla place.
- 36:45Speaker 1: What a time.
- 36:46Speaker 2: All right. So, and finally, the teaser trailer dropped for
- 36:49Speaker 2: the Michael Jackson biopic. That's coming out April of 2026.
- 36:52Speaker 2: The teaser trailer for the movie racked up over 116
- 36:56Speaker 2: million views in the first. 24 hours, making the largest
- 37:00Speaker 2: launch in Lionsgate's history, plus the most viewed trailer for
- 37:05Speaker 2: not just music biopics, but also concert movies. That includes,
- 37:09Speaker 2: you know, whatever Taylor Swift just put out in the
- 37:11Speaker 2: last few years. Bo, what was your reaction to this
- 37:14Speaker 2: news and the big reception for it?
- 37:18Speaker 1: People really, really love Michael Jackson. Like, I remember when
- 37:26Speaker 1: he died, which is... 16 years ago, 16 years ago,
- 37:30Speaker 1: even though it was kind of nascent day Twitter.
- 37:33Speaker 3: Right.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Twitter starts in 2007. This was in 2009. I feel
- 37:37Speaker 1: like this was the first really big social media moment.
- 37:41Speaker 2: Right.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Remember, TMZ broke the news, legitimized the entirety of that operation.
- 37:48Speaker 1: And I remember because, you know, I don't have a memory.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Third was 1982. I'm born in 1980. Michael Jackson's been
- 37:54Speaker 1: a fucking weirdo for as long as I've been alive
- 37:57Speaker 1: at that point. And that was even before we get
- 37:59Speaker 1: to the allegations involving children, right? He died, and the
- 38:04Speaker 1: only thing I thought was, man, I did not realize
- 38:07Speaker 1: how hard in the paint that y'all went for Michael Jackson.
- 38:09Speaker 1: You know, there was points, man, where brothers was booing
- 38:11Speaker 1: Michael Jackson at award shows. You know what I mean? Like,
- 38:15Speaker 1: there was a fall, and then when he died, you'd realize, no, no, no, man.
- 38:19Speaker 3: People.
- 38:20Speaker 1: really love Michael Jackson. Like, I watch me and the
- 38:23Speaker 1: homie Trey and homie Rodney, we were over here and
- 38:26Speaker 1: we watched, you ever seen this? The Michael Jackson concert,
- 38:29Speaker 1: I think it's 1992, Dangerous Tour from Romania.
- 38:32Speaker 2: I have not seen this, no.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Okay, you need to watch this.
- 38:34Speaker 3: Okay.
- 38:35Speaker 1: Because I refer to Michael Jackson as Celo Saban. And
- 38:38Speaker 1: when I say that, he is psilocybin in the sense
- 38:41Speaker 1: that the idea of the psilocybin, like ego death, like
- 38:44Speaker 1: the whole thing about the mushroom thing, the ego death.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Michael Jackson dissolves ego from whoever is around, like James
- 38:51Speaker 1: Brown's egos. dissolves in the presence of Michael Jackson. All
- 38:54Speaker 1: those old heads when Michael Jackson was a little kid
- 38:57Speaker 1: were all like, nah, nah, nah. This one right here,
- 39:00Speaker 1: this one right here is different, right? The Romania concert,
- 39:04Speaker 1: that's the one where everybody's in there passing out, right?
- 39:07Speaker 1: And they having to carry people out of there. Think
- 39:10Speaker 1: about this, this Romania, this was after communism. Nobody had
- 39:13Speaker 1: no nice clothes on. They got Muffin in a wheelchair
- 39:16Speaker 1: that they passing around the concert in a wheelchair. They
- 39:20Speaker 1: never thought they was gonna see Michael Jackson. Woman got
- 39:22Speaker 1: on stage somehow to see Michael Jackson and she just froze, right?
- 39:27Speaker 1: And Mike told her to come a little closer to
- 39:30Speaker 1: give her a hug, and he gave her a hug.
- 39:33Speaker 1: And she was still froze. And then she tried to
- 39:35Speaker 1: take it a little bit too far and had to
- 39:39Speaker 1: get her ass off the stage.
- 39:40Speaker 2: Talk about things that could only happen in 1992. Right.
- 39:43Speaker 1: It's crazy even in 1992. Right. And so while she's
- 39:46Speaker 1: going away, Mike is like, I'm so sorry.
- 39:49Speaker 5: I'm so sorry.
- 39:49Speaker 1: I'm just watching this. I'm like, this is Romania, man. Like,
- 39:52Speaker 1: think about the hell they had to go through in
- 39:53Speaker 1: Romania to get their hands on bad.
- 39:57Speaker 4: Right.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Like, just to get a tape in communist Romania, what
- 40:01Speaker 1: they had to do. he just, it's different with him.
- 40:06Speaker 1: And I need people to understand it's different with him
- 40:09Speaker 1: because we know what's going to happen when this movie
- 40:11Speaker 1: comes out. It's going to turn into, well, what about dot, dot, dot, right?
- 40:16Speaker 2: And that's, and there's a lot of dot, dot, dot.
- 40:18Speaker 1: There's a lot of dot, dot, dot. I'll be honest
- 40:20Speaker 1: with you. I have never, I have, I'm not a
- 40:24Speaker 1: Michael Jackson fan, just to be clear. I have never
- 40:29Speaker 1: been convinced that he did what he was accused of.
- 40:31Speaker 1: And I will note that Santa Barbara County put, they
- 40:35Speaker 1: back into putting Michael Jackson in jail. They, it is,
- 40:39Speaker 1: this is not a situation where nobody looked into it
- 40:42Speaker 1: and nobody was invested in seeking justice. Mike wrote that
- 40:45Speaker 1: song about that man on the history record. He was like, yeah, okay,
- 40:49Speaker 1: let's see what you got. And they didn't have the goods, right?
- 40:53Speaker 1: That's me. I'm not telling you what you should or
- 40:55Speaker 1: should not believe. What I am telling you is these
- 40:59Speaker 1: matters are, However you feel is how you are going
- 41:02Speaker 1: to feel about this. No changing. It's not like it's
- 41:06Speaker 1: never come up before, right? Like this isn't like when
- 41:08Speaker 1: Straight Outta Compton came out and people were reminded about
- 41:11Speaker 1: what happened with Dr. Dre and Dee Barnes, right? Now,
- 41:13Speaker 1: nobody forgot about this with Michael Jackson. They've just made
- 41:16Speaker 1: their call. Whatever their call may be, they have made
- 41:20Speaker 1: their call. Now, do I actually want to watch a
- 41:23Speaker 1: Michael Jackson movie? We had the Jackson's movie that came
- 41:26Speaker 1: on TV. That was good enough for me. I don't really,
- 41:31Speaker 1: I don't want to watch the part of the Michael
- 41:33Speaker 1: Jackson movie to get to what I was just talking about.
- 41:35Speaker 1: I don't want that part at all.
- 41:38Speaker 2: All right, Bo, voicemail lines open. More good ones as always.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Let's take a listen to our first.
- 41:51Speaker 4: Omani, Michael and Charmin. I have to back up your
- 41:56Speaker 4: whole Derek Anderson behind Cam Newton thing because so many people,
- 42:02Speaker 4: and we've had season tickets since 95 or 96. They
- 42:08Speaker 4: all stream for Derek Anderson. Now, what I really wanted
- 42:12Speaker 4: to talk about is the fact that the Sports Illustrated
- 42:18Speaker 4: cover with Cam and those two bums When I saw
- 42:22Speaker 4: Cam in the iron ball, I knew he was going
- 42:25Speaker 4: to be the first-round pick. Panthers got the first-round pick.
- 42:28Speaker 4: I celebrated because that guy is legit. There were so
- 42:33Speaker 4: many people in Charlotte who were like, I don't know,
- 42:35Speaker 4: they might go with one of the.
- 42:35Speaker 2: Other two quarterbacks.
- 42:38Speaker 4: I'm not a gambler, but I want hundreds, and yes,
- 42:42Speaker 4: I said hundreds of dollars, betting that Cam would be
- 42:47Speaker 4: the number one pick with Panthers fans. It was wild
- 42:52Speaker 4: to me that there was even a question. But here
- 42:55Speaker 4: I am betting them 150, 100 a pop.
- 42:59Speaker 2: Multiple people.
- 43:01Speaker 4: It was one of the greatest draft days of my life.
- 43:04Speaker 4: Keep up the good work. Hope y'all have a good one.
- 43:07Speaker 4: Talk to you later.
- 43:09Speaker 1: I just can't imagine putting money on Blaine Gabbert being
- 43:13Speaker 1: the number one pick in the draft. Because the only
- 43:15Speaker 1: conclusion that I could draw if you said that, and
- 43:18Speaker 1: this is how racist these people had to be, The
- 43:21Speaker 1: only way that you could think that Blaine Gabbert would
- 43:23Speaker 1: have been the number one pick in the draft is
- 43:24Speaker 1: if you yourself had never seen Blaine Gabbert play football.
- 43:27Speaker 3: Right.
- 43:28Speaker 2: Or never seen Cam Newton play football.
- 43:29Speaker 4: Right.
- 43:30Speaker 1: That's what I was going to say. And I know
- 43:31Speaker 1: you had seen that, right? So what this means is
- 43:34Speaker 1: you saw Cam Newton play, and all you knew about
- 43:37Speaker 1: this other guy is that his name was Blaine. And
- 43:39Speaker 1: you were like, I got him.
- 43:41Speaker 2: Blaine or Jake Locker, who I know you didn't see play.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Well, so I will say this, though, boy. It took
- 43:47Speaker 1: a long time for me to get off the Jake
- 43:48Speaker 1: Locker way.
- 43:48Speaker 4: Oh, interesting.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Interesting.
- 43:50Speaker 4: Oh, man.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Jake Locker, like freshman year, Jake Locker was something like
- 43:55Speaker 1: Jake Locker is the dreaded athlete playing quarterback.
- 43:57Speaker 3: Right.
- 43:58Speaker 1: He's just white. Right. But he's the exact guy. No, no, no, no. Like,
- 44:03Speaker 1: I mean, if you're going to get an athlete playing quarterback,
- 44:05Speaker 1: get the better athlete.
- 44:07Speaker 2: He was the athlete. He wasn't Cam Newton.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Just to be clear. But Blaine Gabbert was the unforgivable one.
- 44:14Speaker 2: Right, yeah. Playing at the Big 12 Missouri.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Where Chase Daniel was a much better player. He never
- 44:22Speaker 1: could beat Chase Daniel out for that job. Chase Daniel,
- 44:25Speaker 1: who guess what, was also a better NFL player.
- 44:28Speaker 2: Alright, here's our next one.
- 44:30Speaker 3: What's up, Bo? This is Steve from Arkansas. I love
- 44:32Speaker 3: the show. The last show, y'all were talking about Tyler Murray.
- 44:37Speaker 3: One of the guys who throws to you. May or
- 44:41Speaker 3: may not have a dad who plays in the league
- 44:43Speaker 3: and He may or may not have gotten a golden jacket.
- 44:47Speaker 3: So I was just wondering if you've seen the clip.
- 44:50Speaker 3: I saw Tony Dungy do an interview or a podcast,
- 44:54Speaker 3: and he was talking about said player. And one of
- 45:01Speaker 3: his first meetings, games with the Colts, he was talking
- 45:07Speaker 3: about how he joked about them not being able to play,
- 45:12Speaker 3: them not being able to cover him who will not
- 45:15Speaker 3: be named. Anyway, after the meeting, this player goes up
- 45:22Speaker 3: to Coach and says, Coach, I don't joke about what
- 45:27Speaker 3: goes on on the field. So, if you don't mind,
- 45:32Speaker 3: don't joke about me again. And Coach Dundee, well, he
- 45:38Speaker 3: gives that advice, thankfully. I'm not a biggest fan of
- 45:44Speaker 3: his politics, but, you know, he, but he's one of
- 45:49Speaker 3: the good ones, and he dodged a bullet there, literally.
- 45:55Speaker 3: I just wanted you to see, I just wanted you
- 45:57Speaker 3: to see that you can, you can search, you can
- 46:00Speaker 3: search for, I think the name of the podcast is
- 46:05Speaker 3: not just football, something like that, if you want to
- 46:08Speaker 3: look that up, but be careful, though, and you ain't
- 46:11Speaker 3: hear none of this from me, but Keep doing what
- 46:13Speaker 3: you do. Love the show. Like I said, stay safe.
- 46:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I hadn't seen that. And that particular gentleman, number 88,
- 46:26Speaker 1: I believe is, you know, Harvin, Marison. He said he
- 46:33Speaker 1: don't joke about what he do on the field. And
- 46:36Speaker 1: correct me if I'm wrong. He said that Tony Dudley
- 46:38Speaker 1: was saying how nobody could cover him. And he doesn't
- 46:41Speaker 1: even want to joke About that, I would like to
- 46:44Speaker 1: know what does he joke about? I don't know if
- 46:48Speaker 1: you saw this, Ryan, but there were some quotes.
- 46:52Speaker 4: Correct.
- 46:52Speaker 2: I don't remember hearing a quote from this man ever,
- 46:57Speaker 2: but he finally had enough.
- 46:59Speaker 1: Harvey Marison gave a zillion quotes about the Cardinals offense
- 47:03Speaker 1: about a week or two ago. And he's like, they
- 47:06Speaker 1: would take my gold jacket back. if I played in
- 47:09Speaker 1: that offense. Like, he just said how terrible that offense was,
- 47:12Speaker 1: and I'm saying right now, y'all better fix that shit.
- 47:17Speaker 1: And also leaving me now to wonder what it's like
- 47:20Speaker 1: when that's your dad.
- 47:22Speaker 2: Yeah, you're like, what is there?
- 47:24Speaker 1: I'm going to come up there and talk to the, hey, hey, hey, hey,
- 47:27Speaker 1: I'll take care of it. I'll be fine. Like, imagine
- 47:30Speaker 1: you show up, you come to work, you get in,
- 47:32Speaker 1: and you look, and sitting in your chair is a
- 47:34Speaker 1: Hall of Famer. Just wondering if we could talk. Why
- 47:41Speaker 1: wouldn't we?
- 47:41Speaker 2: All right, here's our last one.
- 47:45Speaker 5: Hey, what's up, Omani? I'm listening to the episode with
- 47:48Speaker 5: Roy Wood Jr., and you just shared the story about
- 47:52Speaker 5: your brother decided I need to get my life together.
- 47:55Speaker 3: Similar thing happened to me.
- 47:56Speaker 5: It was 2011. I was taking a semester off from
- 48:00Speaker 5: junior college. I was like, man, I'm going to just
- 48:04Speaker 5: start working. I'm going to be good with this 1350
- 48:05Speaker 5: I'm making. I remember one day my boss was stressing
- 48:09Speaker 5: me about something, and he looked at me and said, hey, man,
- 48:12Speaker 5: you got to pull it together, man. He was like, hey, man,
- 48:16Speaker 5: we got to pull it together, man, because I'm stressed out, right?
- 48:19Speaker 5: I looked at this man. He was 32 years old.
- 48:25Speaker 5: He looked 45, and he was stressing about making $ 17
- 48:31Speaker 5: an hour as a supervisor at the Conservatory of Music
- 48:36Speaker 5: in San Francisco. I looked at that man, saw the
- 48:40Speaker 5: life that I didn't want, and he had a wife
- 48:43Speaker 5: and kids. And I said, you know, I'm going back
- 48:48Speaker 5: to college. I went back to Contra Costa, transferred from
- 48:51Speaker 5: Contra Costa, and I am a graduate of UC Santa
- 48:55Speaker 5: Barbara with a sociology degree, and I'm a teacher now.
- 49:01Speaker 1: Thanks for the show, Bomani. I appreciate it. You want
- 49:05Speaker 1: to go be working at another job. I'll tell you something.
- 49:08Speaker 1: I had the simplest space. So my senior year of college,
- 49:10Speaker 1: I decided when I got out of school, I was
- 49:12Speaker 1: going to be a freelance writer. I had been making
- 49:14Speaker 1: a little money writing. I was doing all right. Made
- 49:16Speaker 1: a couple hundred dollars, four hundred dollars in a month,
- 49:18Speaker 1: every now and then, I was doing okay. I was
- 49:21Speaker 1: on scholarship, so just a little extra money in my pocket.
- 49:24Speaker 1: It was cool. I remember it was around February or so,
- 49:29Speaker 1: and I was emailing with a guy. I had just
- 49:31Speaker 1: started writing. I emailed him to say what's going on.
- 49:35Speaker 1: He had been a freelancer. In my head, he a
- 49:37Speaker 1: professional writer. You know what I mean? I didn't realize
- 49:40Speaker 1: at the time that he had another job. And I
